(00:50):
we are in a big football Friday night, gonna preview
the two biggest games of the week coming up in
a couple of seconds. But uh, I'm gonna be honest,
well disappointed Alex Tyshert, who completely wants to say Die
Hard is not a Christmas movie? You know, I mean,
I know this happens, dude, I guess it is. It is.
(01:10):
It uses Christmas as a backdrop and is involved in
the plot. It's a Christmas movie.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
I will count to you right now. Ready, yeah, one questions?
All I need, okay, is Harry Potter a Halloween movie,
don't think answer? And a Christmas movie money because it's both.
So how is that not in the same rocket jasons? Man,
I'll give you Harry Potter being sure you want Harry
Potter being a Christmas But now you're on my time
to validate yourself. Okay, But I don't feel that way
outside and not.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
It's just it's just become a thing where they play
the Harry Potter movies at the Holidays all the time.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
Now, well, it's the same concept though. Because it takes
place during Christmas does not mean it's a Christmas movie.
Speaker 1 (01:47):
It takes place over the course of a whole year
at school.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
But there is a little those that have a big
Christmas part in it.
Speaker 1 (01:53):
It's not a big Christmas. We need a little Christmas, right,
there's somebody like in it. Batman Returns is one of
the greatest movies of all time. Turns I kill Still.
I haven't seen less than zero once yet? Not once? Oh,
we gotta put Friday the thirteenth on We need Friday
the thirteenth on TVs, and we don't keep going. There's
one more. No, we're not gonna see MIDI no I no, no,
(02:17):
I will turn the TV off. We're not gonna watch
the minute tomorrow. Christmas, do I do it? Do it? Patrick,
Pat you'll never work on this show again. Die Hard
on one of those TVs. Die Hard on Friday the thirtie.
You will be Odell Beckham out of the studio.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
Whatever you say, mister Jason, I feel you're a little
bit more open minded than Jason.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
Mike.
Speaker 3 (02:37):
Just hear me out. So everybody wants to say, Diard
is a Christmas movie, right?
Speaker 1 (02:40):
It is?
Speaker 3 (02:40):
Yeah, it's not. Okay, it takes place during Christmas time. Yeah,
it doesn't mean it has to be a Christmas movie.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
But it uses Christmas as a backdrop and part of
the plot is Christmas. Stop the oh, it's Christmas the
time of miracles. Come on, so be of good, cheer
and call me when you hit the last lock. I
think it's Christmas all the time. One of the best
lines of the movies. I have a machine gun. Hair
hair heir, Come on.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
It is a Christmas movie. Peyton Hans Gruber.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
That was my doctor. That was That was kind of
like Sammy Davis Junior and Doctor Evil Man. Hey, bab,
I have a machine gun. How I got to explain
the millennials with Sammy Davis Junior was one of the
finest all around entertainers of our history. Before we get
into the two big games in the nf I want
to throw this bikes got Pete Futech coming up in
a few minutes preview the Heisman Trophy, our best college
(03:31):
football analyst. I thought you were going to You're get
a rant about what we just watched. Oh no, no, no, no, no, no,
I want to say this. We talked about Belichick and
how he signed a three year deal at North Carolina
all of this stuff, and how he's really not gonna stay.
He's gonna go the minute the NFL calls all these things.
What if? What if?
Speaker 2 (03:49):
What if?
Speaker 1 (03:49):
Right after the Michigan game, he called Ohio State and said,
if you're thinking of making a move, you know it's
called my agent. Would Ohio State have kicked Ryan Day
to the curb for Bill Belichick? If that? Because North
even though Belichick's dad coached there, it was the only opening.
(04:11):
It's not like there's other big openings are going to
be filled. Like they fired mac brod. Okay, Mack, you're
not going to be here all right? Then if Ohio
if he had called Ohio State, or if Ohio State
knew that Belichick is ready to come back to college,
would they have called him and suddenly the hoodie is
coaching in the College Football Championship round because you know,
Ryan day wouldn't stay and he would coach next week.
(04:34):
He would you up and just go, Yeah, whatever you
guys like to do'd be tougher. Even the guys on
the roster would suddenly be more physical in the trenches.
Ohio State, the student body, the entire state of Ohio
would say, yes, let's go go get get Ryan Day out,
bring Belichick in. Now, that would absolutely have happened. That
(04:54):
would it would have been a a A what do
I say? It would have been a tornado of of
just hate for Ryan Day out Belichick in. There would
have been demonstrations and there would have been protests. There
would have been all kinds of stuff. Get Day it's
nighttime day out or something like that, whatever you want
to say. Uh, that's what would have happened, and it
(05:16):
would have been getting Belichick wants to come here, get
him here, He'll beat Michigan, X, Y, and Z one
hundred percent would have happened. It's Billy time. Any the
sheep demand the little lamb with a lot to learn. Yeah, yeah, no, no,
that's good. I'll throw that by a few tech for
a dollar between you and I. When I throw the
question a few tech, is he gonna say it would
(05:38):
have happened or it wouldn't have happened. He would have
hired If Belichick said I'm interested after the Michigan game,
would he wind up being the head coach in ohouse?
I think he laughs maniacally, okay, and then says it
wouldn't happen. You're gonna say no, say no, I'll take
the other side. I will say this though. It really
is a good alternate universe kind of question. Yeah. Just
think because as we talked about with Ryan Day of
(06:00):
the fact that that was has been discussed as much
as it has, and that they've got to make statements
about his return, it all is just asine. I've got
great returns every year in this investment. Nope, I'm gonna
put it over there. Why because my grandson saw something
got dicked on to tell me this is the future. Nope.
(06:21):
Uh so again, we'll have it with Pete Futech coming up,
and I like, yeah, it's fine. Two biggest games in
the NFL this weekend, Buffalo and Detroit. Huge game. I
know that everybody is looking at Buffalo going wow, look
at Buffalo. They that's forty two points they lost the Rams.
Oh my goodness, the Lions. What's going on with this one.
I gotta be honest with you. I'm not gonna pick
(06:42):
the Bills. The Lions have to show me a reason
why I'm gonna pick them to not win a football game.
The Lions are loaded, They are rolling through everybody. They
are finding a way. How do you not, how do
you not just keep saying the Lions are gonna win.
The Lions are a better team than the Buffalo Bills.
For all the Josh Allen heroics, and the Lions are
the better team. They're the best team in the NFL
(07:05):
right now, and they've been the best team for the
better part of two months. Josh Allen is terrific, and
the Bills are very good. The Bills are only okay
away from home. The Lions. It's another big game, another
measuring stick game for them to say, Hey, we're the
big bad bullies on the block. And if you're ever
gonna tell me where okay, you have one great player
against a great team, I'm gonna take the team over
(07:28):
the player every single time. No matter how good Josh
Allen is, he doesn't have the squad around him like
the Detroit Lions doing. Yes, the Lions have been escaping
a little bit. They've been escaping Dan Campbell's questionable decisions
on fourth down at other times. But the Lions are
the better team. You're gonna see that on Sunday. The
best team is better than the best player. Give me
the Lions in this one home date in the late window.
(07:52):
Get in price as low as three hundred and thirty
seven dollars. That's what you're looking to over under sitting
at fifty four four and a half, depending on where
you're looking at your totals. They front seven for Detroit.
We've talked about it a bunch the last couple of weeks.
The number of injuries uh in trying to cobble together
(08:13):
things there and narrow escapes and over the course of
the season. And that's where I guess we get into
semantics about rolling versus the succeed and proceed kind of style.
Speaker 4 (08:24):
Right.
Speaker 1 (08:24):
They should have lost that game to the Bears, should
have would have could have succeeded and proceed game against
the Green Bay Packers again, game that in division that
probably should have gone the other way, but you find
a way. Campbelling has not been a negative term as
of yet. I know you're waiting for that shoe to drop,
(08:47):
and whether it happens here, it's gonna happen. But that's
the thing, It's week fifteen, doesn't really matter Buffalo coming
off of that crazy ass game last week where you
just saw it was it was the Josh Allen share
as a runner, the thrower at the goal line, you
name it, uh. And that's that's the thing I fear
is that you're not going to get much of a
(09:08):
contribution from James Cook, which means how much are you
going to be able to get from Shakir downfield? Are
Keon Coleman is supposed to be back, You've got had
supposed to come back, right. Kincaid's a guy we've been
waiting on, and certainly for fantasy purposes, great expectations, wishing, wanting,
hoping for the final month of the year. I had
(09:31):
the Bills, you know, in my in my grid there
to represent the AFC.
Speaker 2 (09:36):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (09:36):
That's not dependent on a result in week fifteen. So
I'll take the Lions to win. But it's gonna be
another close one. Man. This there's they're not winning convincingly.
A lot offense, a lot offense, offense forty two like
last week, but still a lot offense. Not to be fair,
the game that was played last night, the overunder was
forty eight and a half. Yeah, now, I know the
(09:58):
rains came, but did you see anything in any part
of that game that had you believe it? That would
be the explaining the line to me four days ago.
You know how many points this team scored just four
days ago, but explained that over under total to me
like I'm a five year old based on the game
I'm watching playout. So next year I'll be six, right, Uh.
(10:23):
So we're on the same page for the Lions and
the Bills, Steelers and the Eagles, you know, And I
feel bad about this, Actually don't feel bad about this,
but I just no matter what the Steelers do, I'm
not gonna believe in them. I'm just not I'm just
not gonna believe that suddenly, Oh here's the best formula
and they're a team that's rock solid. They're escaping, and
Russell Wilson's numbers are not as good as they look. Right.
(10:45):
A lot of his numbers are with yak and great
yak by the wide receiver after the play. I mean,
I'm just not gonna buy Hey, great defense and an
okay running game and a quarterback who was kind of
washed but somehow has found a way with balloon balls
to make plays. I'm just not gonna believe in them.
And this Eagles defensive line is gonna have a field
(11:05):
day with him on Sunday. The Steelers are kind of
like the Chiefs light with the escapes they've had over
the last few weeks. But this and yes, yeah, the
Eagles are coming off controversy as well. But I'll tell
you what, man, No George Pickens on Sunday, it's gonna
be really tough. You don't have to outscore the Eagles,
and the Eagles coming off this controversial week, they're gonna
get Aj Brown involved really early. You're gonna throw them
(11:28):
the football in the first quarter. It's gonna be a
well oiled machine, and the Eagles are gonna continue to
prove that we can not only function but thrive with
all the dysfunction going on around our team. Watch us win.
I'll take the Eagles by two scores in this game
on Sunday. Scores two scores on Sunday. Well, I'm gonna
(11:48):
go the other way. Nazi Harris most mistackles for running
back a fifty nine this year. Russell will averaging four
yards ago with all the miss tackles four yards a kind.
Three of those equals first down. No George Pickens in
this one. Russell Wilson is still a very curious quarterback
(12:09):
to me for all the reasons you mentioned. The balloon ball,
balloon boy, you're a balloon boy. Yeah, the moon ball,
whatever you want to call it, is an interesting construct
to that offense. But getting guys involved in the defense
is healthy and ready to roll. So I'm going to
say that they caused some fits early on. Okay for
(12:31):
Jalen Urts and company to where this starts to get
a little out of sorts and we're watching the sideline. Also,
Todd Fermannon with us last year. So you're pitching like
Saquon Barkley with one hand on Jalen Hurts and one
hand on a j. Brown as they yell at each
other on the side. Guys, guys, we're on the same team. Guys,
come on, We're the same team. Siriani's with his head
(12:53):
down like he's backing into the bushes like he's Homer Simpson.
What happened? I missed? What happened? I missed it.
Speaker 4 (12:58):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
Worried about the next play, but yeah, give me Tomlin
and the Steelers we talked to, like I said Todd
Furman at the Board podcast last night, giving us the
details on Tomlin's record against the spread as an underdog
and everything else. If this is a spot where they
get to, well, either prove us right or in your scenario,
(13:21):
they're absolute frauds. Just battle for Pennsylvania. You thought it
was done with the political season. Fraudile hag is on.
Fraud will happen. Fraud will happen. You will see fraud.
You will see the Eagles say hey, okay, now watch
us step up and we're all together and we actually
all try together. When I want to throw the ball
to aj Brown, right, and I'll even say you just
try to continue to have a superhero movie that we
(13:41):
have to mash up and get along. The headline following
this game will be all about the passing game, and
it will be a subpar game for Saquon Barkley.
Speaker 2 (13:50):
I'm gonna say.
Speaker 1 (13:51):
I'll even tell you this, Saquon Barkley under one hundred
yards rushing on Sunday, but the Eagles still win by
double digits because the passing game goes crazy. I had
I had a stat the last month. I think the
Steelers against running backs giving up fewer than eighty yards
per game total yards per game. So we'll see if
(14:12):
that comes to fruition because if they get stiming in
the run game, I mean, Jalen Hurts has been dominant
at the goal line, but we'll see if that pass
game can get going again. You know, while he's got
to contend with TJ. Watt and company exit out about
a Fresca exit swalling down the Jason Smith Show with
my best friend Mike Harmon live from the tire rack
dot Com Studios. We'll have more NFL coming up later
(14:34):
on this hour. We'll give your upset special picks for
this weekend. But straight ahead, we'll take a look and
see who's going to be walking away with a Heisman
trophy tomorrow? Is it Travis Hunter? Is it Kyle McCord
in a big write and upset? How long will Bill
Belichick really be at North Carolina at a big playoff
preview as well? That's straight ahead right here, Jason to Mike.
(14:56):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio the y Upset Special.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Oh boy, this is gonna be merciful fate wait for it?
Speaker 1 (15:20):
Yeah, Blues down and home call me in in time? Yeah.
May How much better the school pageants would be if
they did these? Yeah? You think about what this song
is about. And it's a Christmas song. Hey, Hey, it's
(15:44):
a giving holiday. Dirty deeds done dirt cheap at Christmas,
At Christmas. The Jason Smith Show of the Mike Carmon
Live from the tire rack dot Com Studios. We got
big stuff happening in college football, and to settle our
bet from a few minutes ago. We welcome inside none
other than the editor originator starter Upper Grand puba starter
(16:07):
at College Footballnews dot com, your one stop shopping for
everything college football. Longtime friend of the show. He is
on Twitter at Pete feu Tech. It is Pete feutech.
What's happening, Bud?
Speaker 5 (16:20):
Do you realize that like a song about a hit
man is actually better and more wholesome than a lot
of the holiday songs what they really are about?
Speaker 4 (16:28):
If you're really.
Speaker 1 (16:29):
Funny, I don't know about I don't know about wholesome,
but I get where you're going with it. Yeah, well,
you know we talked.
Speaker 5 (16:36):
About you know, like I don't know, making you convincing
the woman to not to stay and not leave because
you know, and things and you know, a bad things
happening in a lot of these you know, Mom's making
out with Santa chuting on dad, and you know, people
are dying left and right by reindeer. You know, it's
just a lot of bad things happening a holidays.
Speaker 1 (16:56):
Hey, Grandma, do you want to hear that song about
you getting run over by a rain or about the
family hiring a hitman to kill somebody? Which song do
you want which one do you want?
Speaker 4 (17:05):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (17:06):
Again, you know, go go back. You know, Mom's making
out with Santa, Like if you're a kid, that's just
that's that's that's some stuff there.
Speaker 4 (17:15):
That's a problem for your.
Speaker 1 (17:16):
Holiday therapy for everyone. P Futec has nine hundred words
on this on College Footballnews dot Com. Well rank them.
Speaker 4 (17:25):
I am going to have nine hundred words. You know what,
ton it's a Christmas movie. I was just watching it
when you.
Speaker 5 (17:30):
Guys felt it was on the background. It is die
Hard and I do have the article coming out about
how actually USC and noted in could be playing on
Christmas Eve.
Speaker 1 (17:38):
No, no way, man, Now could they be playing. That's
the biggest thing for the movie.
Speaker 5 (17:44):
It is the Aloha Bow or the Freedom Bowl because
they have to have played twice because they're an independent
at the time. You'd have to have like a six
and six USC team at the six and five USC team,
so it would have to be a rematch.
Speaker 1 (17:56):
But they're not in. I don't want rematches. They would
have never said we're gonna have a rematch of the Well.
Speaker 5 (18:00):
But us he was just bad enough in nineteen eighty
seven that it actually could have happened. It would have been,
it would have been tough. He would had to shoehorn
it in.
Speaker 4 (18:10):
But yes, it actually could happen if you really wanted it.
For rating back, boy, I.
Speaker 1 (18:15):
Want to go look up Ryan Knight's stats. Now, all right, Pete,
so settle this. We had a little fun alternate history
a few minutes ago. Yes or no if, Bill bell If.
After the Michigan game, Bill Belichick called Ohio State and said, Hey,
I'm interested. Is he the head coach at Ohio State.
Speaker 5 (18:36):
I don't think Ryan Daves is in as much trouble
as everyone. That's a that's an Ohio State fans thing.
You know, that's the Ohio State fans are just.
Speaker 4 (18:45):
Completely bonkers here.
Speaker 5 (18:47):
I mean, it's just like look again, and by the way,
I have the guy.
Speaker 4 (18:51):
It took me weeks to come up with it.
Speaker 5 (18:53):
I have the guy who can replace Ryan Day. But again,
find me the head coach in the history of college
football who has won eighty six percent of his games
over a six year We're a Morse fan and only
lost one game to a team that's not gonna win
ten games. It doesn't he doesn't exist. He's not out there,
and so he's right there. His team's gonna probably win
(19:14):
the national championship and you're still gonna have Ohisi if
we lost some Michigan is a failure.
Speaker 1 (19:19):
Season was a failure. You know, It's funny because that's
what we've said all along, is that, Okay, if you
don't think Ryan Day is the answer, who's going to
improve on what you what he does? Every who's gonna
get you that extra win two out of every three years? Bait?
But you said, you said Lane Kiffin. Do you think
Lane Tiffin's a guy?
Speaker 4 (19:37):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (19:37):
I really You're not getting It's not happening. He's the
most underrated coach in football. Do you realize with the
team he is coached. Ole Miss is not a good
football program. We always think it is because Archie Manning
and it's the SEC and you kind of think it's
if you if you look at the history of ole
Miss football, it's awful. It is just that is not
(19:59):
a place that you can and win easily at.
Speaker 4 (20:01):
And he at least has.
Speaker 5 (20:02):
Had his team in the mix over the last couple
of years. You remember he had like the Tennessee was
awfully had the one good year with Tennessee. He took
over USC had a monster year and then the coma
penalty kicked in.
Speaker 4 (20:13):
Because of Reggie Bush.
Speaker 5 (20:14):
He's kind of He's been really good without getting his
shot at really getting the stress est what he could do.
He's the one guy who could handle the pressure. He
could handle the media, he could handle all thics and
handle the transfer portal as well as anybody out there,
at least in the modern day. If you're going to
get rid of Ryan Day, which you know what did
(20:35):
do it our radio house, you don't want him find
good luck with finding that guy. He's the one guy
who I could see.
Speaker 4 (20:41):
Could step in and actually be all right, there you go.
Speaker 1 (20:44):
You now have your answer, because I thought he was
just going to leave us hanging like it was an
article that was going to come out in a week
week's time. Thank you, Pete, Thank you for that.
Speaker 5 (20:53):
We told stuff here, you guys get the good stuff.
Speaker 1 (20:55):
No, yeah, right, no, We'll keep asking more. So, eight
hundred and seventy voters Heisman Trophy, what's the margin of
victory for Travis Hunter.
Speaker 5 (21:02):
I don't think it's gonna be that high. And here's
why I'm saying this as a voter, I will not
give my my thing, I think, and this.
Speaker 1 (21:09):
Is not me.
Speaker 4 (21:10):
This is you know what Biden's full display.
Speaker 5 (21:12):
But like, why, I as a huge Prime fan, huge
Colorado fan, I can say this. I think that there
is a massive contingent out there of never Travisers, never
Hunters who are just gonna be like, I just don't
like this Colorado thing and all the hype and all
the you know, it's jam down our throats that it's
(21:34):
gonna be Colorado and it's got Travis Hunter is the
greatest thing. I'll be very interested to see.
Speaker 4 (21:40):
I think he's gonna win it.
Speaker 5 (21:42):
I don't think it's gonna be the blowout everyone thinks
it is very anecdotally a lot of guys I know
women too, who are kind of like, eh, yeah, but
that's not that sure a thing. This Janty guy had
a pretty monster season as well. He was pretty outstanding,
So I I think he wins. I don't think it's
an absolute annihilation.
Speaker 1 (22:03):
Well, and the best quarterbacks not even there, because Kyle
McCord even make it to New York.
Speaker 4 (22:07):
I mean, that's ridiculous.
Speaker 5 (22:09):
Well and you say that though, but dude did lead
the nation in you know, in passing, and by my
pretend my just obnoxiously pretentiously pretentious standards.
Speaker 4 (22:19):
You know, it's me h, you can make it a
crazy case that.
Speaker 5 (22:23):
Hey, look, in terms of doing more Heisman stuff, Kyle
McCord beat Miami, you had a better be it a
bigger impact on the season than Travis Hunter did, you know?
So it's that's not you know, the NBC led the
nation in something you know Hunter didn't. You know, So
there's there is something to that.
Speaker 4 (22:41):
I mean, the crazy I know you're.
Speaker 5 (22:42):
Goofing the way, but that's kind of the overall point
of this whole thing, is that, all right, he's outstanding,
But okay, you know, I mean, you know, I've saw
Charles Woodson. I'm not sure he's Charles Woodson. But again,
Cardio and the Heisman, and he was great, and I
mean he's a great, stude, great guy. Uh, you know
(23:02):
everything you want to get a huge fan of the program.
So I mean to knock him, but I've just kind
of kind of doubled advocating here about why I kind
of think this is not going to be a total
wipe up.
Speaker 4 (23:13):
I do think he absolutely wins the hide.
Speaker 1 (23:14):
I'm got me tweet this out from Pete Futech on
Fox Sports Radio with us. Kyle McCord is five times
the player Travis Hunter is and send here you go, okay, pe.
Speaker 4 (23:25):
Question, all right, just deserve All right, I will release
this now.
Speaker 5 (23:29):
I'm not supposed to, but yeah, Kyle McCord was second
on my ballot. I'm just gonna say that right now.
Speaker 1 (23:33):
It's I'll put that on Blue Sky too. I'm gonna
put it on both decks for you. Pepe. See, you
were trying to Jason been trying to channel the whole
Reservoir Dogs thing. It's like, hey, I want my dollar back,
saying I want guys voters to take their votes back
and write in Kyle McCord all over the place.
Speaker 5 (23:50):
No, no, no, but but look, I mean that is
kind of the thing though with Hunter, and he was
just he's great. I mean you're talking about you know,
the guy led the Big twelve interceptions. He was one
of the five top five in the country and passes defended.
Speaker 4 (24:03):
What he did was unbelievable.
Speaker 5 (24:05):
I mean, it was a just a huge season. And yeah,
in terms of just being a great all around football player,
what he did was absolutely amazing. Now, you know, kind
of a little bit like last year, what Jayden Daniels
did was absolutely amazing. I will still argue.
Speaker 4 (24:21):
That Jalen Molroe was the more important player last year.
Speaker 5 (24:23):
In an MVP way. He had the biggest, biggest moments,
biggest plays, He had the biggest impact on the season.
But it's still but Jayden Daniels was still outstanding that
he just kind of had to win. It's a little
bit like that, I think this year where I just
don't think enough people watched the action jet play and
he had the one big run against UNLV that everyone watched,
but I don't know if that's enough to really convince everyone.
(24:48):
And I will be interested in Kindessee, you know where
where Cam Woden, Dylan Gabriel.
Speaker 4 (24:52):
I don't know who's going to vote them.
Speaker 5 (24:53):
Number one either one, but let's see if they get.
Speaker 4 (24:56):
A couple of votes in there.
Speaker 1 (24:58):
College Oftballnews dot coms beat our guest the Jason smithser
with Mike Carmon live from the Tirec dot Com studios. So,
so your ballot you had, can you say you're ballot
or not yet?
Speaker 5 (25:08):
I cannot say yet under penalty of having to go
see wicked says there in the Official Thing sing.
Speaker 1 (25:15):
Along version caused problems and always fly off the handle.
Speaker 2 (25:20):
All right, so exactly, let's.
Speaker 1 (25:22):
Get to this. Then. Bill Belichick is the new head
coach at North Carolina. We saw him introduces press conference yesterday.
All the spin was he's staying. He left the NFL,
he's disenfranchised, he loves college football. Then we get the
details of the contract today it's only a three year deal, which, boy,
that's gonna hurt recruiting, and that if he leaves before
(25:42):
or right after his first year, it's only a million
dollar buyout. So I say to you, complete the sentence.
Bill Belichick is the head coach at North Carolina for
how long?
Speaker 5 (25:53):
I think three is years?
Speaker 4 (25:55):
Four years.
Speaker 5 (25:56):
He's going to be seventy seven years old. I mean,
what's he going to do? Go, you know, do some
media work, go fishing all day in his boat, and
hang out with a twenty four year old girlfriend.
Speaker 4 (26:03):
I mean, that's not gonna happen. I mean, that's oh
wait a minute.
Speaker 5 (26:07):
Yeah, I think he's here for a little while.
Speaker 4 (26:09):
I mean, I remember.
Speaker 5 (26:10):
Nowadays in college coaching, you don't have coaches who hang
around for five years.
Speaker 4 (26:15):
It's pretty rare.
Speaker 5 (26:17):
I think there's only like twenty two of them who
have been at the same school out of the one
thirty four for five years or more so, so he's just,
you know, he's there for you know, just you know,
to coach, because this is what if you're that guy
and you like coaching, all right, who cares how old
you are, Let's you know, go out there and have
some fun. He's gonna have to delegate, he's gonna have
to have a lot of people because he's not gonna
(26:38):
sit there on the phone and you know, kiss up
the sixteen year old kids who don't.
Speaker 4 (26:41):
Know who Tom Brady is. But he's gonna let's see
what he does.
Speaker 5 (26:45):
With this whole thing. And then the other part of
this thing too. When it comes to to Belichick, okay,
why not, let's just you know, let's give it us spin.
He's obviously a great head coaching. If you're him, you
there's something appealing about the authoritarian rule of being a
college head coach because he's not going to be the
player personnel director and have anywhere near the control at
(27:07):
the NFL level. So you know, forget d MS or
he can't control his draft picks. You can't control well,
there's something I'm sure to him that's like I don't
want to.
Speaker 4 (27:16):
Deal with all that.
Speaker 5 (27:17):
So if I take this college job, I get to
control every single aspect of my world.
Speaker 4 (27:22):
And I think to him, that's.
Speaker 5 (27:23):
Probably way more appealing than dealing with the pro game
and just you know, being you know, the Chicago Bears
head coach. We have to deal with Ryan Poles and
the mccaskes and things like that.
Speaker 4 (27:32):
So hey, for him, all right, go for it.
Speaker 1 (27:34):
Hey, Ryan Poles is an empty suit. You're dealing with
Kevin Warren. Now, yeah, Ryan Poles just sitting there and
looking at you incredulously that you're even asking what his
responsibilities are at this point.
Speaker 2 (27:45):
All right, midshipman getting.
Speaker 1 (27:47):
Six and a half at the Black Knights and then
we get bull season kicked off tomorrow, Pete.
Speaker 5 (27:53):
All right, So first of all, if things go the
way they should, we know how this flies. That each
of both army and each get two possessions. That's how
that's how these games go. Each of them goes on
a twenty nine minute drive and the final scores like
six to three every single year, So it defines all
(28:14):
logic and reason. Just whatever the under is it, then
there's two. If point totals two, take the under it
just it just it just works like that. And I
do think our army is just way better army. Army
does army better than Navy does Navy, and I it
should work. It's gonna be low scoring, but I think
Army wins relatively easily, even though nothing's ever easy in
(28:36):
these games. And then God help us or what we're
about to be in for, especially if you're if you're
an investor, try taking the NFL preseason and putting it
in the blender and trying to figure out what teams
to take. Then that's what this is. Because these teams
are gonna be awful. There's so many guys missing. There's
(28:57):
so many players in the transfer portal, every code which
is gone, every guys in the transfer portal. These Bowl
games outside of Colorado, by the way, who it seems
like Travis and Schadour can actually probably play. Uh, there's
a couple that seems like they're going to be relatively
representative of the regular season teams and everyone else. You're
gonna see the guys in uniforms who you know are
(29:18):
kind of role playing the you know the part of
you know, the the Sam Houston Bearcats coming out of
the tunnel there this week, it's gonna be a rough
one thirty nine.
Speaker 1 (29:27):
The over under for Army Navy. Pete few Tech's official
pick Army one Navy nothing. A rouge wins it for
Army sometime in the second.
Speaker 4 (29:35):
Half, Yes, exactly.
Speaker 5 (29:37):
Now, I do think Army cover, Army covers, and the
under Navy might not score. But then again, it's always
comes down to like a goal line standard, something really
quirky in the final moments.
Speaker 4 (29:48):
Of these games.
Speaker 1 (29:49):
He's on Twitter at Pete feu Tech, that is, at
Pete feu Tech. Don't forget college Footballnews dot com. You're
one stop shopping for everything college football, all the previews,
all the prognostications of bowl season, and highlighted by fifteen
thousand words on the Scooter's Coffee Frisco Bowl coming up tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (30:08):
You're not joking, Actually.
Speaker 1 (30:12):
Pete looking forward to the USC note today and we'll
talk to you next week. Buddy, he's the best. I
got nine of her words on Wow, the USC and
Note today could be playing on Christmas Eve. No, No
they can't, No, No, one's't gonna happen. I thought he
would love my Ryan Nightline, Like, oh, come on, I'm
going back for running back, you know, after the Charles
(30:34):
White era. I mean, come on, man, that's great, right anyway,
enough me patting myself on the back.
Speaker 3 (30:40):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (30:41):
In fact, a guy who loves to pat himself on
the back is not here tonight instead of Steve de Seger,
who has what's trending in the wide world a sport.
Speaker 6 (30:49):
After your last comment, I thought you're a good announcer.
You're going on injured reserve, hurting yourself, patting yourself.
Speaker 1 (30:55):
On the bags.
Speaker 6 (30:56):
To look at the NBA scoreboard, because we got two
games still going with four minutes to go. Leeds one
twenty four one sixteen at Utah, which is five and
eighteen this year. Spurs tied late third quarter at Portland,
seventy four all. Joel Embiat in Philadelphia tonight was Injuredy
left after being hit in the face. He suffered a
sinus fracture. Indiana beat Philly one twenty one to one
(31:18):
oh seven. Cleveland now twenty two and four after defeating
Washington one fifteen one oh five. Darius Garland twenty four
points home wins for Memphis and Minnesota, for Chicago and
for Denver, which has beaten the Clippers won twenty to
ninety eight. There was college basketball on the men's side
on Fox TV tonight at Nebraska. Huskers defeated Indiana eighty
five sixty eight. Just one NHL game Tonight, Ottawa a
(31:41):
three to nothing winner at Carolina. The Yankees traded for
closer Devin Williams from Milwaukee. The Cubs acquired outfielder Kyle
Tucker from Houston, and tonight the Cubs got catcher Carson
Kelly on a two year deal. Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker,
with his calf injury, is doubtful for Sunday night. Steelers
wide receiver George Pickens the bad hamstring, is out this
(32:01):
weekend at Philadelphia. The Dolphins cut wide receiver Odell Beckham.
Jacksonville Titan Evan Ingram is out for the year. He'll
have shoulder surgery. And the four finalists for tomorrow Night's
Heisman Trophy include Travis Hunter Colorado, Ashton, gent Boise State.
The other two are Oregon quarterback Dylan Gabriel and Miami
QB cam Ward and Yes. The Army Navy game is
(32:22):
Saturday in Maryland. By the way, Number two, Georgia is
off until It's Sugar Boar Quarterfinal. That's New Year's Night
where they'll be facing the winner of Indiana at Notre Day,
which is a Friday night game in one week.
Speaker 1 (32:35):
Back to you, Thank you, Seva. The Jason Smith Show
with Mike Carmon Live from the tyrach dot Com studio.
Great visit with Pete Futech. How about Lane Kiffin would
be the guy to get at Ohio State. Well, it's
funny because he mentioned it's like, oh wait, that's good tease,
go ahead and get that coming up next, Mike and
I give your upset special picks this week in the NFL.
(32:56):
One team is not that's contending for the Super Bowl
is not gonna like my pick? That's next Jason and
Mike Fox Cleveland may actually like my pick ha ha.
Speaker 2 (33:12):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Name the movie Jay is in? Uh?
Speaker 1 (33:26):
Hang on, isn't this the well? No, no, this is uh
Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas? Right?
Speaker 4 (33:32):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (33:32):
Yeah, yeah yeah, Kevin Bacon. You know, Oh, by the way,
really quick yeah, the Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas special.
Kevin Bacon goes on to say, oh, no, In fact,
my character in Friday the thirteenth gets killed with an
arrow through his neck, and I'm like, oh, how is
he not killed in that with an arrow through his neck?
(33:53):
I don't understand. Why would you have to do the
callback that was the big Yeah? Why would you go
to such lengths to say, oh, my characters killed with
a with a with an arrow through his neck? And like,
how does that not out? It goes at the end
of Guardan's guy, I don't understand, like you went out
of your way to say that. Was it somehow gonna
screw you in the ratings?
Speaker 6 (34:11):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (34:12):
I don't know. What if we want to and get
that back, that past standard in practices, What if we
want to bring Kevin Bacon back a little bit of
suspension of disbelief. It's fine, it's Guardians at the Gallery.
You have a talking rabbit. Really, until that last moment,
I thought you were a building bear.
Speaker 4 (34:28):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (34:29):
The rabbit is right, rabbit. Time now for Mike and
I to give you our upset special Picks of the
week in the NFL. I'm putting my sixteen and six
record on the Yeah, let's go excited. I kind of
let the cat out of the bag with one a
couple of minutes ago. Swell, start with that. Give me
the Browns at home getting four and a half over
(34:50):
the Chiefs. I'm worried it's a little too trendy at
this point, but I like this from the beginning of
the week, so I'm just gonna ignore that. Okay, it's
gonna throw the football up and down the They're not
gonna even truy. They're just get Hey, we're three and ten.
We have three receivers that we don't think you can
cover in a really good tight end. And Jamis Winston
doesn't care. He may give three to the Chiefs, yeah,
but he may put five on the board. They are
(35:11):
gonna go up and down the field. This is their
super Bowl. Kansas City is gonna rely on turnovers to
help them out a little bit here, but Cleveland is
gonna cause problems for them. Their defensive lines from the
top seven defensive lines in the NFL, they will ably
get at Patrick Mahomes enough. Kansas City's kind of in
look ahead mode. They got three games in eleven days.
(35:32):
Patrick Mahomes already said he's very upset about it. Gimme
Cleveland on the field twenty seven to twenty four, but
I'll still take the three, the four and a half points.
Speaker 2 (35:41):
You know what.
Speaker 1 (35:42):
I agree, And unfortunately it became the trendy pick as
the week were on. But the Jamis Winston analysis precisely
how I laid it out in the I Watch Flights podcast.
Play him. It's playoff week and he's taken you to
the promised Land as long as you're not getting minus five.
How about the Seattle Seahawks in the late window at
(36:03):
home getting two and a half against Green Bay. Yes,
I understand that Kenneth Walker the third will not be there.
Charbonnay played quite well last week. I know that Jai
Ere Alexander is back, which means DK Metcalf, who's already
been a bit muted, may not appear. He may have
a Cooper Cup stat line that side no no catches,
(36:24):
one target, But m just like with Jamis, Gino has
no conscience either, geez, which means he keeps firing. Forty
six is your total in this one. Give me Seattle
with a huge win to keep fighting in the NFC West.
It's gonna sound crazy, You're crazy, but who I like
(36:45):
to continue their unlikely playoff run. Give me the Dolphins
getting three and a half against the Texans. Look, the
Texans just it's they've never looked like we thought the
Texans were gonna look this year. You know, they didn't
come out and offensively, go up and down the field
and put numbers up. It's just kind of been too
much inconsistency, a lot of stop and go. Some weeks
(37:08):
the Texans look good enough and some weeks of disappoint
There don't have any weeks where I go, wow, this
is the Texans team I expected. However, Miami is on
a heater. Man two is on a heater. They're healthy.
That's gonna continue. There's gonna be a lot of points
in this game, and I'm not gonna need them, but
I'll still take the three and a half points. But
give me the Dolphins three and a half over the Texans. Yeah.
(37:31):
Houston on our big board there where we put all
our predictions for the year, the out on a limb
for me was that Houston would miss the playoffs. Of course,
I thought people would actually come to play in the
division this year, and well that has not happened. I
like that one. That's a good one. I already gave
you Pittsburgh with the five and a half against Philly
a little bit earlier. About how about a little bit
(37:51):
of a price shot and it's a big home dog
Jake Hayner and you'll New Orleans Sis.
Speaker 2 (37:59):
Never start and a half?
Speaker 1 (38:01):
Come on man seven and a half point. By the way, slowick.
If he had any head coaching offers last year and
he didn't take him, there's a guy that's gonna ruin
his existence. You want to talk about sitting under the
holiday holiday holiday, what you're gonna get fed is exactly
why I'm going that route. Forty three and a half?
Is your total Saints a whole second line like it's
(38:23):
a hockey. What do you like about this guy? I
don't know, but you're still gonna pick him? Yeah? Why
I don't know? All right?
Speaker 2 (38:29):
Great?
Speaker 1 (38:29):
How about how about it's a lack of faith in
the Washington Commanders and Kingsbury down the stretch. I know
they're coming off a bye and all. Yeah, However, I've
watched what happened in earlier this year when the Saints say, hey,
We're gonna start a guy who's never started a game before.
It doesn't go well, it does doesn't go well, man.
But that's why you know you'd go and you'd lay
(38:51):
out the big boot, because you know you're taking big swings.
You're you're taking the Saints and Travis Hafner at quarterback.
I mean, just I have a Travis Haffner game or
in Jersey that was sent to me. Oh, I do
I swear to God in my closet or you gotta
wear it on Monday. All right, I'll bring it on Monday.
I will break it.
Speaker 4 (39:10):
You really haven't.
Speaker 1 (39:11):
I legitimately have it Travis after I'm not kidding. We
were at a game once and were chatting and all
of a sudden I got a box in the mail
like three days later, and it was from Evidentally, one
of his representatives was sitting next to us. So there's
our upset. Special picks Mike taking the Saints for no
reasons at home, Rizzy exit out by a Fresca exit
(39:34):
swollen down the Jason smithsho with Mike Carmen live from
the tirect dot Com studio. It brings the boom. Coming
up next, we get into the biggest story of the
last twenty four hours in the NBA, A big what
if coming your way next Fox
