Speaker 2 (00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
Hello, Welcome in side hour to the Jason Smith Show
with my bass friend Mike Harmon. Well Dressed Cobo. For
over forty years, tire Rack's been helping customers find the
right tires for how, what and where they drive. Shipped
fast and free, backed by free road hazard protection with
convenient installation options like mobile tire installation. Tirerac dot com
is the way tire buying should be. So here we

(00:51):
are now the beginning of college football Armageddon, the final
games before the final playoff pole comes out. We got
Pete fewt stop and buy in a few minutes. James
Madison taking care of business. Door open for them. They
beat Troy tonight despite the snowballs. So now Duke's upsitte
of Virginia would open the door for James Madison to

(01:14):
make the college football playoff. Think about that for a second.
All these other teams and think about that. Think about it.
See now I'm doing ww villain. Think about all those
awful Power five conference teams. You root for, all the
Syracuses and the Iowas and the Washington States, and you
sit back and watch James Madison to make the playoff

(01:37):
over you, like, just think about that.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
Check fine, about twelve years for you to try to
become me going into the cadence as it were, the
James Madison Dukes. I mean, come on, twelve and one
on the year, you go all the way back. What
a big win over Weber State and then they lost
twenty eight to fourteen to Louis and now ran the

(02:01):
table thereafter, just a first win in program history as
a as a ranked team. All of these things that
come to fruition. Man, who doesn't you get romantic about baseball?
We talk about that all the time in college football
this time of year. It's absolutely magical. Come on, I mean,
playing for heavy steaks and even in games that you say,

(02:24):
like we look at the big ten titles like well,
it doesn't really have the massive effect in terms of
a loser leaves town match. Let's keep with the WWE parlance,
shall we. It still has that great interest because you've
got the quote little engine that could Indiana, you know
that used to be the basketball school that's suddenly his

(02:45):
rising with the guy that says I win Google me
as if he were a WWE villains.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
So it's great and it sort of seems like fate
that the James Madison Dukes will be the biggest fans
of wait for it, wait for it, wait for Duke
tomorrow in college football this or I would say that,
and I would duck it run out for someone could
throw a punch at me. Yeah. Uh so again, more

(03:14):
college football coming up in about fifteen minutes. But big
week in the NFL. We have a slew of big
games to look at, you know we do. Every football
Friday is extremely special for us, especially now you know
we get close to Santa Claus coming down the Chimney.
You're looking at big conference races and uh, no game
bigger for a team trying to stay in a race

(03:36):
for their division and the playoff. Another team just trying
to stay in a race for the playoff. Feel like
every win is a must win game the Texans and
the Chiefs Sunday night football in Kansas City. This is
the biggest game of the week simply because Kansas City
maybe in a situation where their playoff hopes go goodbye

(03:58):
if they lose this game. I know you want to
thinking Kansas I feel like Kansas City could be like
five and ten and Fans is still gonna go, oh
they win those last two until they're mathematically out. Wait,
they finished seven to ten, they'll make the playoffs. Watch, hey,
they go three and fourteen, but they're close. Game, Like,
everybody's gonna make excuses for the Chiefs. And this is
an incredibly large game because look, Houston has come all

(04:21):
the way back and and uh look right now, yes,
it's a very difficult uphill climb for them in the
AFC South, but wow, their defense is playing so well.
All of this being said, you're like, Jayson, you're gonna
pick against Kansas City again. I've been the Kansas City
whisper all year long. I've told you stuck up on Mahomes,
stock down on the Chiefs. Right well, everything I've said
about the Chiefs come true. Oh you hate the Chiefs.

(04:43):
You're just gonna pick against him pit Kansas City. You're
gonna pick Houston. Houston's defense is incredible, it's playing at
such a high level, and Houston's offense is doing well
enough now. But this is a Mahomes game. This is
a home game at night where it's gonna be difficult
for the text to move the football and it's gonna
be a battle of what quarterback can do enough in

(05:04):
this game. And when you think about it that way,
there's only one pick. This is a Patrick Mahomes game,
and it's cold, it's a must win. The defense is
gonna be great for the Texans. I'm not saying it's not,
but it's not a great setting for their offense. Put
points on the board. It'll be close. But this is
a game where Mahomes has a couple of plays where

(05:24):
you go, man, maybe he really is the MVP. You know,
national televised game on a Sunday night. Give me the
Chiefs in this game twenty three to fourteen, and they
stay alive in the playoffs for another week, and then
next week we can all say, oh, seey told you
how great the Chiefs are.

Speaker 4 (05:41):
All they need is again, look at this best defense
in the AFC blah blah blah blah blah. I'm telling
you it's the setting is too rough for Houston at
this point. The Chiefs Mahomes, they need to win more.
They get it on Sunday.

Speaker 3 (05:54):
Houston give it up sixteen point five per game, Kansas
City seventh in the NFL giving up just nineteen point three.
As we watch this rollout, the big thing for me
down as many starters as they are on that offensive line.
This is one where Patrick Mahomes, to your point, has
to make MVP plays and they're gonna have to be

(06:16):
with his legs trying to get the hell away from
will Anderson and company. So that'll be the curiosity here.
But I'm gonna go with the upset. I'm gonna take
Houston to win this game outright plus three and a half,
the over under forty one and a half. So you're
going well shy of that. I can't say I disagree.
Trying to look up the weather for this one, that

(06:39):
look like about twenty degrees. When it's all said, we'll
see what kind of wins I look for others. Bears, Packers,
we're talking in the near the single digits by time
that one's deep into the fourth quarter. The Vikings it's
outside temperature, but people will be really cold getting there
and they've got nothing a cheer for.

Speaker 1 (07:01):
But you know, I wonder if a team is gonna
say that, you know, the weather was a factor, but
you played indoors. Yeah, but getting to the game, it
was fun.

Speaker 3 (07:08):
The fans really weren't it. It had nothing to do with
the fact that we could in dirted the ball two
weeks in a row. It had a better quarterback rating
than what her guys put up. But psychologically we we
just we had no juice because they were uncomfortable in
their their giant gore Tex jackets.

Speaker 1 (07:23):
And plus the players coming in from the cold, they
never really acclimated to the warmth of the indoors. Uh.
It was just it was it just wasn't there for us. Man.
The weather really just hurt.

Speaker 3 (07:32):
Now it's funny just you get the weather for the
cities as you scroll up, and he just kind of laughing.
We do have potential for snow, uh, for Titans and Browns,
for those three people that will watch that game. But
for this one, Yeah, I'm curious to see what the
Kansas City offense is able to do. We've seen Rashi
Rice back to back week with some big plays, big opportunities,

(07:52):
certainly for fantasy owners. Uh. And we were talking about
that side of things, Jason. We're talking last week of
the regular season for a lot of fantasy leagues. You
got your guillotine leagues and everything else where. It's like, boy,
you're doing a little handwringing looking at your quarterback positions.
Like I love you Patrick Mahomes, but to am I
risking you know, the biscuit this week for what you know?

(08:14):
You might get the W, but are you giving me
a fantasy W? And the answer is look at option
two on your roster for that one. But yeah, really
fascinating game with Houston. You get CJ. Stroud back under center.
Nico Collins has been a heavy target these last few weeks.
Davis Mills, congratulations on a job done. But that defense

(08:37):
is starting to get a little bit of run. I
think they do just enough to give CJ. Stroud the
opportunity to win and people get excited about him like
they did two years ago.

Speaker 1 (08:46):
Now you mentioned Packers Bears where the temperature is going
to be minus seventy five degrees. Cood get there.

Speaker 3 (08:51):
Yeah, everything tells me Green Bay in this game, you
can actually get in for under two hundred bucks Smith.
You believe that for a Bears Packers game Atlanta?

Speaker 1 (09:00):
Yeah, but when it's that cold, you should start paying
me to go to the You drink some hot damn
and you get after it. How long? How long does
anything hot last when you drink it at a game
like that?

Speaker 3 (09:11):
It goes in my belly and it warms back up
and I get some more.

Speaker 1 (09:15):
Like eight seconds, not even maybe Maybe you're like, oh,
that's nice and hot.

Speaker 3 (09:19):
But this is one of those scenarios where you say,
to hell with the guy in the bacon wrapped hot dogs.
Are they selling me any handwarmers and foot warmers out here?

Speaker 1 (09:28):
No, that's where you get the bacon wrapped hot dog
and just rub it on your face because it's under
your arm. There you go, You no feeling? Okay? Look,
everything tells me Packers in this game, right The Packers
have owned the rivalry. They're playing at home. They have
a chance to jump ahead in the NFC, But I'm
going with the Bears. I believe. Either I believe in

(09:48):
the Bears or I don't. And I've told you from
the beginning. Chicago always finds a way games like this,
like just just go look at what they've been doing
the entire season. They find a way in the fourth
quarter of close games. No, maybe they don't play to
their capability. A lot of that sometimes has to do
with the other team, because you know they are trying too.
I like how people want to criticize the Bears, like
the other team's not trying and the Bears are just

(10:08):
falling over their face. Oh they can't throw for three
hundred yards every week, Yeah, okay, but they ran for
two eighty last week. Sometimes they move the goalposts on
the Bears all the time, but they always find a way.
They're the better team top to bottom. However you want
to dice it up, the Bears are the better team.
Green Bay is just too inconsistent. They give you efforts

(10:28):
even at home, where you say, what the hell was that?
How does Jordan Love come out of this game thirteen
out of twenty six for one hundred and fifty five
yards and a pick? How is that the game for
the Packers? So give me the Bears in a close game.
I love the under. You could put the under at
nineteen and a half. I would still take the under,
but the Bears are better. They find a way in

(10:50):
the fourth quarter, they win this game. They get turnovers
because it's what they do, and they beat the Packers.

Speaker 3 (10:55):
Packers giving up about seven points fewer per game. Bears
give up also about seventy five more yards. They let
you move the ball, but opportunistic. Big question here is
how healthy and ready for a full workload is Josh
Jacobs smallest return to the lineup last week. He's pivotal
right as a Runners, particularly in the red zone, has

(11:17):
been their best weapon. Once to Tucker Kraft and went down.
You got a lot of trying to find out who
that next big option is. Christian Watson pops up on
occasion you've been waiting on jan and Red Jalen reed
to to come back and become part of things. You know,
we always get that graphic. He had five guys, six
guys with more than four hundred yards. Yeah, where's your

(11:38):
go to number one? And Jordan Love has been middling
throughout the season. Kind of salty that you picked the
Bears because I want assaulted you.

Speaker 1 (11:48):
I'm the one who's been telling you how good the
Bears are all season long. But I've been trying to
put you in a big positive Bears frame of mind
all year, but you typical Chicago Bears fan, where even
though we have the best record of the NF, see
something's wrong. Something is sixty and not just the final score.

Speaker 3 (12:06):
I live and die with this stuff, man, and it
kills he repeatedly.

Speaker 1 (12:11):
But but you understand there are two columns. There is
a win column and there is a lost ark. Okay,
that's all you need. There is a win column, and
there is a loss column, and there's also a tie column.

Speaker 3 (12:22):
There is there is that does show up and now
and again, Yeah, that's great.

Speaker 1 (12:26):
I'm sorry that you know you don't like the style points,
but you don't need style points in the NFL. You
just need the ws.

Speaker 3 (12:33):
But but you can win games and still see that
there are there are issues that need to be address
with your squad. The thing I like what the Bears
have been able to do is run the ball consistently.
So congratulations. Let me be the first to acknowledge Eric
b Enemy and what he's done with the run game
for the Bears. Al Harris gets a lot of love

(12:54):
for the takeaways. Let's give Eric b.

Speaker 1 (12:56):
Enemy.

Speaker 3 (12:56):
You know that guy once upon a time that everybody
wanted to fight on rate. He's working some magic for
that Bears offense with Ben Johnson. I think the two
headed running running game is really where this all happens.
Caanalin Williams hasn't been forced to put the ball in
the harm's way, not that he does that with great regularity,
but he's also not taking the negative plays that we've
seen in years past, that TJ. Watt stripsack touchdown. Notwithstanding,

(13:22):
taking care of the football has been paramount, which is
why in games like this, grind it down. Yeah, give
me the Bears in a close, low scoring game. It's
forty four and a half as the total. Packers given
six and a half. They should not be given six
and a half there now, just because that's the stats
to date. It's like someone just did the basic maths

(13:44):
said okay, that's the number for this week, and I
get it they're in Green Bay all of those things.
But yeah, Micah Parsons is not the same player against
a team like the way the Bears deploy their offense.
I am going way, I'm going nineteen thirteen, not like
even not even sweating the under.

Speaker 1 (14:01):
Obviously you're not gonna swept the sequel to.

Speaker 3 (14:04):
Hearing in Harrison Bordack another decade.

Speaker 1 (14:08):
Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah yeah, you think way way, way,
way way under. Uh So there it is two of
the biggest games in the NFL this week. We got
more NFL preview later on this hour, but straight ahead
College Footballnews dot Com insider extraordinary Pete few tech stops

(15:40):
four three six put a new spin on Christmas. Christmas
with Bond Scott at a CDC.

Speaker 3 (15:49):
Absolutely, you should go make an ornament to Bond Scott.

Speaker 1 (15:53):
Maybe make it the tree topper this year. Let's go.
Jason Smith, Mike Harmon Love from the Fox Sports Radio studio. Well,
the first domino has fallen in the college football playoff.
James Madison wins the Sun Belt tonight. They beat Troy
thirty one fourteen, So now a ninety nine percent chance
according to the All State Playoff predictor, if Duke upsets

(16:17):
Virginia tomorrow, joining us now for the possibility that could
happen and the other big events of the day. Nobody
better than the owner, editor, proprietor of College Footballnews dot com.
You're one stop shopping for everything college football, all the picks,
all the prognostications, all the analysis. It is Pete Futech

(16:38):
beat Happy Friday Man.

Speaker 6 (16:40):
I hate to playoff predictors and this nothing sucks the
soul out of sports more than all these you know
said you have a four percent probability of making this.
You know, it's like, okay, when why even try? You know, like,
what's the I love this how every single week there's
a one per chance that this team can win, and

(17:02):
then all of a sudden it does. Like oh well,
well yeah, I know it's not how it works. But
they're telling me out of one hundred times it would
happen once, happened once, and it happens every week. But
I digress. No, here, I would actually take the one percent.
I you know, who knows what this bunch like. You
can't say, okay, well you're gonna move North Texas now,
well maybe you do. If Duke wins pretty handily and

(17:27):
crushes Virginia and it's the Power four champ of the ACC,
I mean, I don't think it'll happen, but you know, look,
I mean James Madison's only win over a power four
team always game against the power four team was against
Louisville and lost by two touchdowns. You're telling me the
a SEC champions shouldn't be in over James Madison.

Speaker 1 (17:50):
If that happens, Pete, do you really think Duke a
five loss Duke team gets that push over James Madison.

Speaker 6 (17:59):
No, they're not to mess with it. Look here's my take,
and I will be I will happily eat it if
I'm wrong, because I'm guessing here knowing this group like
I do. I know it's a new group of people,
the committee, but knowing the playoff types and how this
all rolls in Grapevine like I do. The one thing

(18:19):
they don't want is controversy. And they kind of avoided
it all up until a few years ago. With the
Florida State thing. It was all kind of, oh gosh,
you left out, you know this team that was kind
of deserving it was. There's never really any big twist
until a couple of years ago, and now everyone seems
to be mad at everything. They keep being cagey about it.

(18:40):
They're cheeky and they want to leave themselves as many
outs as possible just in case they have to make
some kind of crazy president call. So they haven't come
out and flat said that they are going by the
President sent ye last year with the no punishment for
losing your conference championship thing. So my guess is you

(19:02):
already know who the teams are. It's the only question
now is whether or not b YU win tomorrow. Because
if if Texa Tech comes out and you know, steam
rolls them, we got it. That's it's over. That's it.
That's there's your college football playoffs.

Speaker 3 (19:15):
I just want chaos, Pete. That's that's really all it
comes down here.

Speaker 6 (19:19):
I mean, what would that be at this point? Would
it be Alabama?

Speaker 1 (19:22):
See here's your chaos, right Alabama? Alabama wins, loses.

Speaker 6 (19:27):
I mean no, Alabama would have to get destroyed because
here's your Because you're chaos is if you're you can't
selectively say we are not going to punish, you know,
conference championship losers, because I I kind of don't believe
that that's how it should be. But I get it.
You don't want to make going to the conference championship

(19:48):
a negative because at the moment, you know, you could say, well,
you know, Alabama's in, you know, they're they're right, See,
they're fine, they should be okay, you know, but they're
punished by going to have to play another game. That's
not right. They're not gonna do that, and they're just
not saying it yet. So I think they're trying to
create a little drama oh, well, the teams can move,

(20:08):
and oh yeah, you know they can move. If you
know someone else beats someone else and you know you're
a knockout, you have to move them up. But like, yeah,
at the Alabama, if it wins tomorrow, I think could
move up to three. And I don't think the one
or two Indiana house state that's it. You're if you're
not punishing conference champions. I think that set well. How

(20:30):
state is not going to fall further than two. Indiana's
not going to fall further than that. And if Alabama
went to moves up to three, if BYU moves up
to like four or five, you know, until I think
that's how this is going to play out, They're just
not gonna tell us yet because they're not exactly sure
what they're doing right now.

Speaker 1 (20:48):
I gotta say, though, Pete tomorrow, I'm not sold on
Georgia and Alabama as as the top level national title
competitors right I'm just still just Alabama's offenses kind of
hit the skids in Georgia is not quite the the
the juggernaut they were when they won back to back.
But I like Alabama tomorrow. I mean I like Alaba

(21:09):
close game I think they get the offense on tracked
a little bit, and Alabama is the more desperate team
they need the W and kaln de Bor gets a
stamp win.

Speaker 6 (21:18):
Oh my god. If I had a few days on
the X machine man the SEC type I had, I
tweeted something out about I'm done with the word gauntlet.
That's not a gauntleige that Alabama played, like you have
to remember, Yeah, okay, fine, they be a bunch of
rankings kind of Tennessee didn't beat a team that's going bowling. Oh,

(21:40):
Missouri's best win technically over the only win over a
bull bound team is Louisiana. You know, Auburn didn't beat
a bull bound team. Vanderbilt didn't beat anybody who beat anybody.
LSU didn't have a coach or an offense with Bama. Godam, Like,
it's yeah, there's a lot of big, flashy names, but
it's not that brutallest guy. So they did beat Georgia,

(22:04):
you know, Okay, they had to play Oklahoma, and okay,
they still lost to Florida State by double digits. And
that seems to be the other part of this whole
equation when you come to I know, if I get
this as Notre Dame Miami, apparently everyone went to bed
early during the Notre Dame Miami game back. Nobody remembers this.

(22:24):
I mean, it's the whole hilarious thing. I tweeted out
that no one remembers this, and everyone seems to responding
back with some different form of that game and not
recognizing that it was a tie game at twenty four
to twenty four with sixty five seconds to play. They're
acting like this is a blowout. Meanwhile, it's that fourteen
point blowout loss, which is actually worse than the final

(22:46):
score of alabamagainst the Florida State has been memory dumped
by everyone so long, super long winded way of saying,
I am a thousand percent with you that I'm just
this sec These teams are. They're fine. They just they're
not great. They're fine, just fine.

Speaker 1 (23:05):
At Pete's you Tech where you find them on Twitter.
You can't you cannot travel to the South anymore. Pete.
You have to just stay stay in this, stay in
the Midwest. You're not even allowed to travel there anymore.

Speaker 6 (23:15):
Speaking of my last few days, I simultaneously spinning sec plates.
I was having three different arguments at the same time,
still arguing about why they got twenty twenty three right
with Alabama Florida stay out. It was so arguing if
they got it wrong last year that Bama should have
been in an SMU out. So you think Bama's people

(23:36):
would actually see those even though they got like a
ton of views, and they should have seen that and
been okay. But no, all they are is mad at
me for suggesting that their team is just sort of
met have here. So it's it's it's been a couple
of days, but get there. You're again. They're fine, They're
gonna go and they'll get T shirts and they're be
on TV. And I just I don't. I'm not really

(23:58):
buying into Georgia shows up. George is the one group
team you remember what happens tomorrow. I think they can
do some damage in this thing, I don't. I'm not
sold on the Oklahoma offense, Ole Miss defense, no uh,
And I just don't think that they might all win
a game. But I just don't think there's a National
Championships champion in this buck.

Speaker 3 (24:17):
If it's not Georgia at Pete futech where you find
him for all of your no more, no, no, no,
yes you I.

Speaker 1 (24:30):
Questions all your line them up. SEC fans line them up.
Oh god, no question they have. Hey, Penn State finally
got a coach.

Speaker 3 (24:40):
It seems like maybe they had reached out to him
before and the message didn't go through for mister Campbell.

Speaker 1 (24:45):
But after our long nightmare is over.

Speaker 6 (24:48):
Yeah, you know, it's it's funny, you know, Okay, he's
been kind of dancing with all these other programs for
the longest time, and you know, no, he's not leading
at Penn State is a big enough program. And I
did enjoy the America held hostage thing for the last
you know, seventy two hours of like, oh, Penn State
can't find it because well it's Penn State. They're you know,
they're gonna give somebody someone's gonna watch six or seven million.

Speaker 1 (25:10):
Yeah, you're gonna.

Speaker 3 (25:11):
Get what year deal with that kind of money, I mean,
with the buyouts you're getting, come on, let's go.

Speaker 6 (25:16):
Yeah, you know, it's a it's a you know what.
And that's kind of the craziness about this coaching carousel.
You don't have to, you know, go for the you know,
the five run home run with Lane Kiffin here I
mean you can, you know you can. There's a lot
of good coaching hires out there. Pat Fitzgerald and Michigan State,
good Bob Chesney going to UCLA. Okay, I see it,
you know, Matt Campbell, you can see that and be

(25:37):
okay that that makes sense. The guys, you know, gets
to have a step up job after years and years
of succeeding at a place that's never won. Okay. So
there's a lot of ways you can get coaches that
just that, you know, you don't have to have all
the drama stuff happening. But all right, Lane Kiffin, let's
do what you can do. Son.

Speaker 1 (25:54):
You know, I really hope he goes on game day tomorrow, Pete, Like,
I know, I don't know right well, No, the thing is,
he said he had to stay back in Baton Rouge
because they signed it and pray on it. Yeah, but
I'm really hoping he goes all full WWE villain when
he goes on tomorrow. But now apparently it's up in
the air.

Speaker 6 (26:12):
I love how he it's God's fault, you know, he
prayed on it and had God told him take the
Yukon job. Like, no, of course he's gonna say, take
the job that pays a lot more money, you know,
like you isn't. That's the old joke that online that
Reggie White was praying on is gonna ask God? And
Mike Colman called and said, Reggie is God to come
to Green Bay. Well that's that's kind of what should

(26:34):
have happened with Lincoln. But like, look, I think he's
gonna go. He does enjoy this, but he's good at
it though, Like there's some guys who try and can't
pull it off, but Laane legitimately is kind of that guy.
And I'm still an apologist. He has been a great coach.
Now we get to see what he can do at
a massive program bound by nothing. I mean, he's only

(26:55):
a Tennessee for one year and that was a rebuild
and they actually did all right. He took over the
USC job right when the Reggie Bush sanctions and the
Coma penalty kicked in. Uh, and so they still had
an undefeated year there. But like, now we get to
see him do something at a program where he's got
all the resources, all the recruiting on. Like there, he's

(27:16):
bound by nothing, and he's already on a hot seat
because he hasn't won a national championship there yet.

Speaker 3 (27:22):
Well, then you see in the PAC twelve, I mean
they lost one of their coaches as Rogers go straight
to Iowa State. No drama, You got tears from the
ad is one guy's out the door, but he already
makes a higher Yeah.

Speaker 6 (27:33):
You know it's that's the kind of thing of this
too in your team is how do you know a
program likes their coach, Well, one, they either keep them
around when they've had a bad season, like Mike Norvell
or Luke Stickle, or the guy stays through the bowl
game or whatever the playoff run is supposed to be.
Because yeah, they'll kind of get along and their adults
and they can you know, sort of say yeah, you

(27:54):
know what, let's finish this out and see how it
goes and then we'll, you know, we'll take care of
the next job later. Know. So it's you see how
this is kind of working with all these places, and well,
look it's unfortunate, but at the moment, Washington State or
PAC twelve is not going to be the PAC twelve
we thought it was gonna be.

Speaker 1 (28:11):
All right, Pete, let me ask you this tomorrow. You
talked about this a couple of weeks ago. I think
you're right on with it. The Heisman Trophy is going
to be one tomorrow. Someone's gonna have a big day.
Who is that going to be?

Speaker 6 (28:25):
You know this as a Heisman voter, I'm not allowed
to speak about my vote, and I can freely talk
about it because I have no freaking clue who was
on my ballar Like, who is? Like they all it's
all bad. This is the worst Heisman race ever. You know,
either I know, everyone either wants Diego Manzell or Julian
Toretta or they're just you know, all these you know,

(28:48):
you got these guys who are just fine. But like,
you know, Diego Pavia didn't it. He's kind of Robert
Griffin ish like and you know his run, But Robert
Griffin had a couple of massive performances on a big stage,
and that wasn't really Pavy even though he had great
performances week after week, you have that one big giant win.
You know, it's just, you know, I guess there's nobody

(29:09):
I would guess the win. Whoever, who ever quarterback in
the Big Ten Championship locks, that's probably your front runner.
If Jeremiah Smith goes off. I mean, remember Devat Smith
won this in twenty twenty because he ripped apart Florida
in the SEC Championship. So if Jeremiah Smith, you know,
goes twelve touches for two hundred and nineteen yards and

(29:29):
three touchdowns, Heisman over. But it's really remember as a
popularity contest, it's who performs with everyone watching, because you know,
I don't think anybody saw it. Created a TV ranking
that said nobody saw Jeremiah Love play this year, So
I don't think he's got a real shot. And I
think Pavi is going to be on a lot of ballots,
but again, not really any massive win to jump on.

(29:52):
So I think it's you know, tomorrow, does Ty Simpson
rip apart Georgia. I don't know, that would probably get
him there. But this is just an awful, awful Heisman rate.

Speaker 1 (30:02):
He's on Twitter at Pete few Tell that is his
cell phone number is area code uh and spelling it's
f U I T A C K Pete FU tech.

Speaker 6 (30:15):
Right g O S E c raw that's.

Speaker 1 (30:21):
Send it. Send your email him courtesy of Todd McShay.
He'll answer all your questions.

Speaker 6 (30:27):
Yeah, thank you, Pete.

Speaker 1 (30:29):
Enjoy the games. We'll talk to you next week, buddy
when we're talking about the playoff.

Speaker 3 (30:33):
In the mask p f tech, don't don't send him
a message on Twitter.

Speaker 1 (30:38):
Dude, you know what harm I've been doing radio now
on and off, like what you know when I was
part time in two thousand, then at full time at
ESPN from two thousand and three for seven eight years,
left for three years to go do TV, came back
now with you for the past decade plus. That is
the first time in twenty plus years of of me

(31:00):
doing this where I have given out a guest's uh
a Twitter account or or contact information and the guest
has said no, no, no, no, no, not me, let
me promote you. No, it's never happened. No bodied voice,
I am guy. No no, no, I don't.

Speaker 6 (31:19):
I don't.

Speaker 1 (31:19):
Don't worry about it. Don't worry about I'm taking I
No no, no, don't, don't don't. I'm not p futech,
fake preanke caller, prank calling, hangs up like Eric Stultson
pulp fiction.

Speaker 6 (31:28):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (31:29):
Time out to find out what's trending in the wide
world of sports, from special delivery Steve to Sanger. I'll
give you his cell phone number coming up in a
few minutes. Uh, he'll give charger stack everybody who calls.
He's got a free charger stack.

Speaker 6 (31:40):
No.

Speaker 7 (31:41):
No, By the way, even worse for me was you
asked him about the Heisman race and his response is
I have a Heisman vote.

Speaker 1 (31:52):
So I can't talk about it. Good.

Speaker 7 (31:55):
Well, yeah, he apparently hasn't heard a certain Saturday show
at this year.

Speaker 1 (31:59):
Network.

Speaker 3 (32:00):
Are you trying to get that vote taken away? Holy wow,
my current reggas.

Speaker 1 (32:05):
Off something like that. There is a game on Fox
TV right now.

Speaker 7 (32:09):
The Mountain West Championship gave with a minute and a
half to go at Boise State, Broncos lead thirty eight
to twenty one over UNLV under two minutes to go.
In the American Championship at number twenty two lane, the
home team up thirty four to twenty one over twenty
fourth rank North Texas number twenty five. James Madison twelve
and one now won the Sun Belt thirty one to
fourteen against Troy and Kennesa State blew a twelve nothing

(32:32):
lead in the fourth but still won at Jacksonville State
nineteen fifteen on a touchdown pass in the final minute.
That was the Conference USA Championship game attendance eighteen thousand
in Alabama.

Speaker 1 (32:43):
Penn State does have its.

Speaker 8 (32:44):
New head coach, the guy that was at Iowa State
the past decade, Matt Campbell, the replacement for the Cyclones
Jimmy Rodgers from Washington State. Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson will
play Sunday. You return to full practice today. Washington QB
Jaden Daniels will return to start Sunday at Minnesota after
the dislocated elbow. Vikings quarterback JJ McCarthy will start. He

(33:06):
cleared concussion protocol. Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray is out for
the year with his foot injury. US men's soccer will
face Paraguay and Australia in next Summer's World Cup, and
then it'll face a European playoff winner. In college hoops,
Gonzaga rip Kentucky ninety four to fifty nine, and in
the late game in the NBA nine and a half
minutes ago, Oklahoma City apparently will win its fourteenth straight

(33:30):
game thunder up one eleven eighty three over Dallas Shay
Gilgis Alexander thirty three points. That's the eleventh time this season.
Already he scored thirty before the fourth quarter started. In
the late NHL game, late second period, Washington leads three
to two at the Ducks already wins for Vegas and Dallas.

Speaker 1 (33:50):
Back to you, Thank you, Steve. The Jason Smith Show
with My best friend Mike Harmon coming up next Football
Friday continues, we take a look at two more of
the biggest games in the NFL this weekend. One superstar
quarterback says he's ready for what's basically a playoff game,
But is he really ready? That's next right here, Jason

(34:10):
and Mike Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (34:12):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (34:24):
Thanks to Pete few Tech for stopping by a few
minutes ago. You never heard of him, You don't know
his name, don't know who he is, don't don't don't
email him, especially SEC fans. Don't email Pete few Tech.
Don't hit him up on Twitter at Pete feuw tech
fiu tak. Do not do that.

Speaker 6 (34:40):
Do not do that.

Speaker 1 (34:40):
Do not hit him up. And if you do, tell
him we said, Hi, I knew it was you. We
got more college football on the way. But look the
next few minutes, we got some big NFL games to
break down, and look, one of the biggest games this
weekend is again, I'm kind of sad that this is
one of the the biggest games because you're sad. I'm

(35:02):
sad because the image of this game is so not
what it's going to be on Sunday, right, Like, oh,
what you say when you say the names of these
two teams, I just think of the hardest hitting games
known to mankind. Right. I go back to the late
nineties into the two thousands, where I felt like every
time these two teams played, it was December and there

(35:24):
were violent hits and it was just a battle of attrition.
But I'm just sad that we're getting raven Steelers on
Sunday and this is this is We're getting a dome,
we got two six and six teams getting after it.
We're getting a diminished Lamar Jackson who says he's ready
for what could be a playoff game, and he's right,
we have a diminished Aaron Rodgers. That neither of these

(35:47):
teams is very good, and it's just it's just sad.
I mean it's a big game, right, you know, two
teams top of the AFC North at least for now,
and uh, you know you have star potential at the games.
But Lamar is not what he was and Aaron Rodgers
isn't what he was, and the teams aren't what they were.
It's just kind of sad.

Speaker 3 (36:04):
Mike Harmon, Yeah, I mean, what do we got thirty
seven career meetings here?

Speaker 1 (36:08):
Tomlin with the edge right?

Speaker 3 (36:10):
Like twenty one sixteen I think was last count Baltimore
a five and a half point favorite. But yeah, Lamar
Jackson again, we joke about the wacky Doctors game operation.

Speaker 1 (36:19):
There's a lot of things glowing on Lamar ja.

Speaker 3 (36:22):
He got stepped out in practice and had to miss
and every day it's is it his foot or his
ankle today? Which are we listing him with? How about
a shoulder? Let's just randomly out a shoulders. It's like,
how about in a bleak? I mean, I have no
idea Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 1 (36:35):
Playing with a broken bone.

Speaker 3 (36:37):
We've talked a lot about that squad and his five
point eight intended air yards per pass attempt five point
eight yards and for Lamar Jackson's it's just been a
struggle a kid. They just paid Mark Andrews, congratulations him.
I think he got more a bunch of that money
off the ability to do that spin move and sprint

(36:59):
to the end zone that he did a couple of
weeks ago on the when he was under center. But yeah,
it's just not the juice of those hard hitting games
for this long, long standing coaching rivalry.

Speaker 1 (37:13):
Yeah, it's just sad. Mad mean, Look, I'm gonna default
to Baltimore because it's one thing. Look, Aaron Rodgers is
not the same in Pittsburgh's offense stinks. Lamar Jackson has
hurt any stinks. But I'll default to Baltimore simply because, look,
I love the under But coming off of last week, look,
John Harborough said, listen, what we did with Derek Henry
is never gonna happen again, right, And this definitively has

(37:36):
the hallmarks of a King Henry game. Tons of carries,
a couple of touchdowns, you know, a seventeen thirteen kind
of win or a sixteen fourteen kind of win for
the Ravens. It's gonna be ugly, it's not gonna be great.
It's not gonna be fun, but it's a big game.
I'll take the Ravens in a close one.

Speaker 6 (37:54):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (37:54):
I named him one of my top five running backs.
Spoiler alert for this week's I Watch a Flex podcast
pretty much going down that road like what.

Speaker 1 (38:02):
Else you got?

Speaker 3 (38:03):
What else you got? Just tuck the ball in his
gut and he's had a couple of big games back
to back weeks. Doesn't give you much out of the
passing game, of course, but certainly that comes into play.
I'm gonna take the Steelers because it becomes better, more
delicious theater in all of this. Two coaches that do
the Spider Man meme where every loss the fan base

(38:23):
gets a little bit louder.

Speaker 1 (38:25):
I'm getting fired. No, you're getting fired. No, I'm getting fired. No,
you're getting fired. You're getting fired.

Speaker 3 (38:30):
You're gonna be in the CBS booth first No, yeah no, yeah,
by the way, we got to talk about that before
we're done.

Speaker 1 (38:38):
Point counterpoint in terms of TV booths, Wells and Fox. Well,
that's right, quarterbacks are the same team.

Speaker 3 (38:45):
Yeah, let's go. That'll be brilliant. But yeah, this game
smacks to the under. We're having a field goal contest
before it's done. I'm gonna take it that because you've
got to diminish Lamar Jackson that you do get the
TJ Watt play that seals the difference.

Speaker 1 (39:04):
Another game, team's at the top of their division. It
is the AFC South Colts and the Jaguars. This is
the biggest Jack Jaguars game in a long time.

Speaker 2 (39:15):
Teams getting after air.

Speaker 1 (39:16):
And I'll tell you what, I don't believe in the
Jaguars at all, but they win this game by ten. Wow,
look at you. No, it's not gonna be No. The
thing is, the Colts offense has not been the same
with Daniel Jones' injury, and they're really coming back down
to earth a little bit. They're going to try to
go Jonathan Taylor heavy all day. But oh, by the way,
guess who's the number one team in the NFL against

(39:37):
the rush. It's the Jaguars, still having a lot of
thousand yards on the ground total all season long. This
is going to be a very typical Trevor Lawrence is
men unexciting Jaguars win to be at the top of
the AFC South at least for now. But in this
game of the two division leaders, Yeah, things aren't trending
well for the Colts and it's a bad matchup right

(39:59):
now against the Jaguars. Jaguars defense controls the day and
they win one in a very unexciting fashion.

Speaker 3 (40:05):
Jaguars giving up twenty one one per game. Colts slightly
better on the year. No, Sauce Gardner in that secondary.
They thought they were getting a little extra bump there
that doesn't exist. But I'm gonna take the Colts to
win this one. Enough in the passing game, Daniel Jones.
I don't know how much and how much mobility we got,
but I just in the battle of trust, I'm gonna

(40:28):
flip a coin. I'm gonna take him over Trevor Lawrence.

Speaker 1 (40:31):
Wow, you feel really confident about that?

Speaker 3 (40:33):
No, no, no, but flip Hey, Hey, Indianapolis is a
narrow two point favorite on the road, which shows you
how confident anybody is.

Speaker 1 (40:42):
In this thing. How confident are you? Well, I'm flipping
a coin.

Speaker 3 (40:46):
Taylor's the best player in it all? How about that?

Speaker 1 (40:48):
Hey? We got big quarterback injury news and a big
Bowl prediction for this week in the NFL. Next Fox
