and break down the big first weekend in college football.
Zero week is here. But uh, you know, in politics,

(01:15):
don't worry. Now, what do you do in politics? We've
heard the phrase October surprise, right, every time the election
comes up. You know whoever is leading in the polls,
or maybe it's the incumbent. You hear there's an October surprise,
something that comes up out of nowhere that helps tilt
the election, that that moves the needle someplace, because here
comes up something that we're not expecting. The October surprise, right,

(01:39):
that's a big thing. I want to throw another phrase
at you here after what we're gonna talk about here,
and that is a September surprise. In sports, September September,
the Jets go eight. No, No, I'm sorry, No, that's impossibility.
That's a September impossibility. That's sorry, that's impossible.

Speaker 3 (01:59):
Sorry, that's my Hey, what kind of odds can you
get for the Jets to run September?

Speaker 1 (02:05):
Ooh, I think in the words of our guest Todd Furman,
Vegas insider Smith Harmon, I'll give you anything you want
on those hots, whatever it is. But this out of
the NBA, According to NBA insider Jake Fish, it's made
a lot of headlines today. This is on Bleacher Report.
The Golden State Warriors have contacted the Lakers on multiple

(02:29):
occasions over the past eighteen months to express interest in
a trade for Lebron James that would pair him alongside
Steph Curry. Okay, now, first it got reported by Adrian
Walzharowski Ramona Shelburn a little over a year ago, the
Warriors called the Lakers about trading for James, only to
have Rich Paul tell them, hey, listen, Lebron doesn't want

(02:50):
to get dealt we're here. But now a year later
and here we are, and things have completely changed. Lebron
James is in his last year with La He is
a he is. He is shunted to the side as
the team rebuilds everything around Luka Doncic the new center
of their team, and Lebron is kind of standing on

(03:11):
the outside looking in. If it was if the Lakers
were a movie poster, instead of Lebron and Luca together
like Tango and Cash or something or step Brothers, no,
it would be Luca in the middle and Lebron like
off to the side with a really mean look on
his face, like that, Hey, yeah, this is how we're
presenting the movie. Now it's a Luca it's a Lucas
special and Lebron you're at the side. Now. Would it

(03:34):
be tough for the Warriors? Yes, because the Lakers, even
though new leadership, knew lots of things happening with Mark Walter,
and to trade Lebron to the Warriors, to have him
come back and haunt them in the West where they
maybe could get a big run. Because look, the Warriors
clearly they you know, they need a little bit of something.
And as we said last year, getting Jimmy Butler, that

(03:57):
was a huge first step for the Warriors to really
get better, to have one more shot at a championship.
With Steph Curry, we said for a long time again
ahead of the curve, he's their first job. He's their
first step, Right, Jimmy Butler is their first step. They
have one more guming and that's gonna make the team complete. Right.
We moved on from Klay Thompson, They're gonna want to
move on from Jonathan Kaminga. This probably isn't gonna be

(04:20):
able to happen. The Warriors could keep calling, keep calling,
and you know, maybe just eventually hope the Lakers are like,
if we trade Lebron to you, will you stop calling
Will you stop calling me? Please? Because this is how
Michael Fabiano does trade. I was gonna say this sounds
like he continues to ask you about a trade until
finally you just say, okay, if I trade you will
you stopped at yeah, okay, you make a trade. You're like,

(04:40):
I shouldn't have made that trade. I just didn't lock him, right,
But things have changed for Lebron and the while. It's
gonna be tough for the Warriors to make this happen,
but you never know. You never know when Lebron if
he says he wants out right, and that's why one
reason why the story gets out now. If that's why,
if Lebron want this story is out now. If he says,

(05:02):
get me to Golden State, the Lakers have to say, man,
we could get out of this fifty two million, We
could move on. We can make a move and get
a player or two that we would rather build around
Luka Doncic with than one last gasp with Lebron until
the deadline, and maybe the Lakers say, okay, we have
to do it now. This is gonna have to be
Lebron saying I want out and get me to Golden state, right,

(05:25):
Lebron's gotta do that like he's if he wants. As
we've said any star in the NBA, if you want out,
you gotta say I want out, right. So while things
aren't it's up in the look. I'm not gonna sit
here and say it's definitely happy. But you want the
odds of a September surprise for Lebron James getting traded,
I'm gonna give them to you because this is this

(05:46):
is when things are gonna get to the rubber hits
the road. Up until now, it's been a lot of
posturing with the Lakers and Lebron, and they know they
don't want them pass this year, and there's stories that
have gotten out about how each side feels about the rest.
All the little subtle, passive aggressive things Lebron has done
this year, video of him working out at the Clippers facility,
video of him in Cleveland working out at the Cash

(06:07):
facility with a hat that says welcome home while he's
in Cleveland. All these things that have gone on have
been this passive aggressive dance that the Lakers and Lebron
are doing. But September, we've seen big September deals done
in the last couple of years, right, Kyrie Irving was
one of them. This is where I see, This is
where that September surprise happens. And I know that I've

(06:29):
said it for ah, I still believe the September trade
of Lebron can absolutely happen. It's gonna take a big uh,
It's gonna take a big step. Like I said, Lebron
saying I want to be traded, or the Lakers deciding Okay,
we're gonna move and we can figure it out, and
Cleveland's the place for him to go finish his career in.
But there's too much smoke for this not to happen.

(06:50):
And I'm gonna go back to what I said from
the beginning, Mike. That tells me all the way back,
like hey, Lebron's gonna get traded, is that Lebron James
has been the focal point of the NBA for twenty years.
He likes being the guy. Now he knows he's probably
not the best player in the game anymore. I think
you would have to admit, Okay, I don't think I'm
the best. I've lost that mantle, but okay, I'm still
the most influential and I'm still one of the top

(07:12):
players in the league. I Am not going to play
in a season where I am going to be shunted
to the side. And everybody every night talks about it,
talks about how Lebron is not part of the Lakers future.
It's all Luca and I'm not part of the conversation.
I'm not the straw that stirs the drink. Is he
really gonna go through a season where Lebron is an

(07:34):
outsider on a team? I can't. I can't see that happening.
I can't see Lebron being, yeah, just gonna play this
year out. Other guys play years out, other guy other stars.
I understand. Gotta play this year out before Kevin Durant.
I gotta play this year out before I get traded, right.
I didn't want to move. But Lebron is not one
of those guys. Lebron is the straw that stirs the drink,

(07:54):
and he is gonna be that way till he retires.
He's not. I can't see him going through a year where, yeah,
I'm just treated like another guy with the Lakers. I'm
not gonna do that. And that's why I keep coming
back to September surprise, Lebron getting traded. No, I appreciate that.

Speaker 3 (08:11):
It's something you and I have talked about for a
very long time outside of the Lebron's circle of influence.
In terms of at some point, as a wide receiver,
you need to recognize you don't get separation anymore. You're
a sit down, create first downs and move forward. Hi,
Keenan Allen, Hi and Kwon Bolden. That becomes your claim

(08:31):
to fame. Guys like Tara Owens, I'm still a number one. No,
you're not, Jerry Rice. I'm forty one.

Speaker 1 (08:36):
Damn it.

Speaker 3 (08:36):
I'm gonna be the number one in Denver, Seattle, or
it's gonna kill me. Now you're cut, You're done. You're
not here anymore. Same thing here with Lebron. You might
be the most relevant, and you might get the best
TikTok scores and in Instagram real scores and all the
stuff you've done.

Speaker 1 (08:54):
Because this was perfect. I mean, if I.

Speaker 3 (08:56):
Were to have set my clock properly for a Lebron
update of some kind, I think it would have been.

Speaker 1 (09:02):
Due for today.

Speaker 3 (09:04):
Right we're ahead of NFL kickoff, ahead of his Week
zero of college football.

Speaker 1 (09:08):
We'd gone a couple of weeks without talking about Lebron.
He needed he needed to be loved. He needed to
be loved.

Speaker 3 (09:14):
It's like, what were those electronic pets that you had
to play with and feed whatever electronically or they died,
Oh they Toamagucci's or whatever the hell they were called
a touch like that and got you whatever. You understand
the point though, if if you ignored them, they died
and then you had to go back to the store
and buy another one. That's kind of what Lebron feels

(09:37):
like right now. Hey, nobody's playing with me. Talk about
me over here. It's like no, no, no, it's college football
and NFL time.

Speaker 1 (09:44):
You don't matter right now.

Speaker 4 (09:45):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (09:46):
And guess what, No matter where he goes to a team.
And this is where you and I differ on a
lot of this stuff. I'm not gutting my squad to
match up whatever dollars have to make sense to trade
for Lebron James at fifty two million dollars, because for
most teams, that's an awful lot of your rotation. That's
not one guy on an expiring deal. Because the Lakers

(10:08):
an't gonna do that, and they're not gonna do that
with with the Warriors. Part of the story that was
out there was Kaminga's been offered a two year deal.
He didn't want to do it because he thinks as
soon as he signs the contract, they're given a plane
ticket either to la or somewhere else. So he's out
altogether for that, right, But it's just the idea of

(10:29):
wherever he goes. He's got to get used to the
fact that he and number one, even if he goes
to Golden State, Seth might be.

Speaker 1 (10:35):
The most accommodating guy in the world. Guess what. Lebron's
the hanger on that showed up at the party.

Speaker 3 (10:41):
Yeah, but he's the interloper that showed up, just like
Kevin Durant was. He might have he might win an MVP,
he might win some kind of accolades, but guess what,
it ain't your team.

Speaker 1 (10:49):
Yeah, but here's in the shade of hey, you.

Speaker 3 (10:52):
Had to go add on to try to try to
be relevant because you were mad that they liked Luca.

Speaker 1 (10:57):
Come on. But it's but it's different when he's going
someplace else saying, Hey, I'm the missing piece. I'm gonna
go here and it's part of my basketball adventure. You
can spin that into where, hey, I'm okay, it's steps
to I'm just here. I'm here to be a guy
to help we can win. I want to win. He

(11:17):
wants to stick it to the Lakers, everything else, win
another title before he's done. And if the Warriors win,
guess who gets the credit? Lebron James does, right, because
the Warriors couldn't win till they got Lebron. But you
can't do it and and be that guy in a
place where you were the guy for so long. Now
we don't love you anymore. Right, Like, okay, if if
you were the number one son living in a house,
like you had three brothers or four brothers, and you

(11:39):
were always the number one, the prodigal side of it.
But then something happened. They decided, yeah, you're our fourth
most important kid. That kid's leaving the house. Man, he's
not staying around going I was number one. They took
my room away. Now I'm gonna I gotta live in
the basement, and and they're standing water. I don't want
to do any of this. Oh my good I can't
close the window, and there's all kinds of rain gutter
watch it. He can't do it where you used to

(12:02):
be the main express, but to go someplace else. Yeah,
that's why he can go to Cleveland and say, yes,
I'm going home one more time. Is Donovan Mitchell. But yeah,
absolutely they have a great rotation, great offense. Absolutely, But
if the Cavaliers win, it's because of Lebron. And no
matter what, Lebron can spend it as I'm going home,
there's many places he can spend going to another location

(12:23):
as part of his basketball journey. And I'm the missing piece.
He's not the missing piece anymore in LA. He's a
guy that they would love for him to opt out
of his contract. The would love him to do that.
They'd love for him to say, hey, let's figure out
a buyout and I'll take X amount of dollars and
the Lakers say, great, we'll take some of that money,
will go someplace else. Like, there's a couple of different
ways for Lebron to get out, whether it's trade or
a buyout. But you know, he's got to be the

(12:45):
guy to step forward and say this is what I want, so,
you know, to be able to do it someplace else. Yeah,
Lebron can spend that he left his he left his
home to go to Miami. It was Dwayne Wade's team.
He made it his team and they went to four
finals and one two of them. So he's done that before.
It's kind of people would say, hey, that's what he
did before, and now he's gonna do it again at
Golden State. He's the missing piece. Yeah, he'd be a hero,

(13:07):
but he's not the hero in La anymore. And Lebron's
not going through a season where he's not the hero. Yeah,
it's it's it's fun theater at this point.

Speaker 3 (13:15):
And now there's plenty of sick of fans in our
business that are, you know, just drooling over the possibility
to chronicle it, and then when it doesn't work, it's
not his fault.

Speaker 1 (13:24):
Yeah yeah, yeah, he tried. I mean this, I mean it.
Look the basketball journey, they just didn't blend with him. Yeah. Look,
and that's what look, and that's why I've said the
whole big thing is that if he winds up going
back to Cleveland is the place he goes where if
he doesn't win, it will still be okay. Right, So
we've said this for a long time and it's oh,
they're the conference favorites. If they don't win it. They

(13:45):
don't win. Well, you know what, I had a year.
I went home and it didn't work out, but I
went home for a year, like he You can spin
it that way. You can spin that being the way
it ended, And al right, he tried, but he went
home for a year. Great. But look, the guy's got
more than one year left in the tank. I mean
to think, I mean career, the guy's over forty and

(14:05):
he's still playing at an incredibly high level. Man, Like,
I mean, it's still like if he goes to Cleveland,
I don't think this is one of those deals where hey,
he's going for justice, just like I think you go
for two or three years potentially. I mean, he'll probably
do a year by year thing or do a contract
where it's a one year with the player options playing.
But like, I don't see him being near the end,
like this year is going to be the last year

(14:26):
from Like, he's got two three years left. He's still
playing at a top ten overall, kind of a top ten,
top fifteen overall.

Speaker 3 (14:32):
Just think about how easily he could have done whatever
the hell he wanted if he hadn't opted in. And
I get it, he wasn't gonna make fifty two million
dollars and guess what he shouldn't walk out with more
than five bucks from the Lakers at this point. You
want out, you want to buy out, You give us
all of it back. We'll give you a nice Abraham Lincoln,
nice and crispy.

Speaker 1 (14:52):
I'll give you five dollars.

Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with My best
Friend Mike harmon Yeat. Well, here we are. We are
about thirty a little bit less than that, thirteen hours
away from the beginning of the college football season and
a big game, the air Lingus College Football Classic, taking

(17:06):
place in Antarctica, Okay in Ireland number twenty two, Iowa State,
number seventeen, Kansas State. We have five games on the
slate tomorrow. It is zero week in college football. We
made it. We are here and it is joyous and glorious.
My friend, did you.

Speaker 3 (17:25):
Start, you know, just tearing up a little bit as
you started thinking about it, you know, running out of
the field that bogus notre dame logo that they put out.

Speaker 1 (17:36):
No, you know what I started thinking about it. I mean,
this is not the college football needs something else. But
you know, because they talk about how long the season is.
But man, college football goes away for so long, right,
like you know, but college it goes away for so
long because you can't really get excited about spring practice.
There is that. Yeah, you get the you know, you

(17:56):
get the signing period and new players, but no, even
the most lunch just to college football fans. Yeah, you
see great highlights of these kids. You don't know how
they're gonna be at the next level. What they're gonna
be like college football goes away for so long. Man, again,
it makes every week just absolutely filled with gold. But man,
I'd left him to figure out a way to, you know,
make college football come back a little bit sooner and

(18:18):
go a little bit longer. So yeah, I mean, just
give it time once once we get to this forty
eight team playoff. Yeah, Man, SEC now is going to
do nine conference games. We talked about that a little bit,
so I mean you add that, I mean, you start
parsing it all out. It's like, oh, there's a way
we can pad an extra month in here. Pretty easy.

(18:39):
Joining us now in the hot line for all the
big news college Footballnews dot com Insider, Grand Pooba Editor prognosticator.
It is longtime front of the show. He is on
Twitter at Pete Futech. It is Pete Feutech. What's happening? Man,
Congratulations we made it to another season.

Speaker 4 (18:56):
Oh man, I'm exhausted, all righty? No, how many years
have I been coming on this show? So you want
to know the annual rite of passage since what nineteen
seventy five? Ishes I think the first time I came
out with you guys, and just that sounds about right.
It's this idea that tomorrow, Week zero should be National
Day of Cupcakes, where it is FBS versus FCS schools,

(19:21):
all home games for the FBS schools. You get a
free game, it's on campus. You just get a free win.
It shouldn't be a problem. You get to tune up,
like you shouldn't have Texas and Ohio State going at
it in week one. You know, you shouldn't have a
Big twelve game that's as important as Kansas State and
ioway stay without a preseason game. You get it all

(19:43):
out of the way and then no more FCS games
after that. That should be tomorrow, when all the students
are on campus and rad to roll. That's been my proposal,
and someday, God willing, we were going to get this.

Speaker 1 (19:54):
Pete. I'd like to say, there's I got a hole
in your in your theory, but not I mean this
is I mean, how many teams FBS teams would say, yes,
we want that one week to see what we have
and be able to make moves and have a home
game against an FCS team that we're going to destroy.
But they don't care because they're gonna get paid. I mean,

(20:15):
that's a great You want to talk about having a
you know, having an idea that I can't believe everybody
wouldn't agree to. That's an idea that everybody would agree to.

Speaker 4 (20:24):
And you have again I know, because they just dropped
it off on campus. Everyone would go every play. It's
nice right now, everyone wants something to do. They're instead
of a soft opening with you know, games in Ireland,
which should not be happening. You know, just have a
one week just get out of the way, because they
to tie this into everything else you kind of mentioned. Okay, yeah,

(20:46):
college football off sat the season is so long, but
this year was particularly tough because there's no bus around
quarterbacks because there aren't any other than arch. It's the
story of the offseason. It's like still, we're about to
kick off the season in a few hours, and no
way that ninety nine point nine percent of all college

(21:08):
football fans can name the starting quarterback for Michigan and
Oregon and Notre Dame and Alabama and Ohio State. I mean,
it's just there's so many new quarterbacks this year. And
go back to the yourginal thought it would be nice
for all of them to have one game just to
get the gips out of their system.

Speaker 1 (21:30):
Ready, The one thing I will say is a team
the schools FBS schools are going to say, uh, these
games will be counted towards Bowl eligibility, correct, Okay, yeah, and.

Speaker 4 (21:41):
Then that's it, yep, And that's forligibility because instead of
having okay, so we're having a nine game SEC schedule,
So insteading of having that data against Mercer in mid November,
which you know I've always defended because of fine, there's
still a team plays the SEC team plays their SCS game,
you know, late in the season instead of the beginning.

(22:01):
All right, it all kind of counts the same. You
get them out of the way and here we go.
But yeah, but we get started, we get this matters tomorrow. Look,
this is a real game. I mean this again. Kansas State,
Iowa State. Those two teams one of them was you know,
good enough to win the Big twelve championship. We're just
about to see you know which one it is. And
in such a tight weak this year, you're getting an

(22:23):
elimination game out there in Dublin right out of the gates.

Speaker 3 (22:27):
Well, that's just said, let's start while we're at it
right there, three point spread Kansas State, you'reifty one total,
so expecting some fireworks more than just kicking for one
of these Irish traverses this year.

Speaker 4 (22:40):
And this is where gosh, for the for the investment community,
this week zero week one, it's always Christmas because it's
if you can kind of figure it out, and then
if you can find an investment in an SBS versus
SBS game and just keep pumbling the SBS teams and
assume that it's going to end up being fifty one

(23:00):
to three every time out, you're gonna be all right.
So in this one though, can't just state it's a
little bit more experienced, you know, but Ioways State's good.
They lost all the receivers to the NFL. They got
a great running game, two good quarterbacks, and you know
it starts out early, especially at your time. I mean
I think it was at nine am kickoff in the

(23:21):
Pacific time zone. So we get this thing start right away.
It should be a pretty good one.

Speaker 1 (23:27):
Yeah. Look, I mean I got a feeling that that
zero week this is not really how they wrote it
out to be. Like I think you would probably want
some bigger schools at least getting on the on the docket.
But look, at least we have the games tomorrow, right,
like I will, we'll turn Stanford in Hawaii into something
that seems like this is a really big deal. Man,
it's heard that final game stand for Hawaii CBS and

(23:47):
four point thirty. You're not getting anything like this the
rest of the way.

Speaker 4 (23:51):
Well, it's just call it the stoft opening is you know,
just you make sure that the drinks are cold, and
you know the food comes out on time, and you know,
light to work. You just kind of we're just gonna
get this thing moving a little bit. But you're right,
it's and you know, remember last year it was Florida
State Georgia Techtive opened the season in Ireland and Florida
State was coming off of the Act and so that

(24:12):
was kind of a big deal. And the year before
Notre Dame you know, was in you know, Ireland, so
whoopie do, and then he destroyed Navy, And the year
before that it was being Nebraska Gangoid. So you're right,
it's Kansas State and Iowa State aren't gonna necessarily move
the needle. But again, these two these were good. I mean,
one of these teams, and again, these are two teams

(24:33):
that could end up playing in the Big twelve Championship,
and they each of are good enough to potentially be
and you know what, it is now twelve team college
football playoffs. So it is actually what probably the best
matchup we've had since they started doing this Ireland thing.
But again, those two teams don't exactly have the national base.

Speaker 3 (24:52):
I do appreciate that right now Florida State fans having
flashbacks as soon as you invoked memories of last year.

Speaker 4 (24:59):
Yeah look, yeah, not my fault. They were bad and
you know, hey what twenty twenty three beat them twice, basically.

Speaker 1 (25:07):
No question about.

Speaker 4 (25:09):
It's called Kirk Curves Street's fault.

Speaker 1 (25:12):
Well it is. Yeah, we'll we'll blame him while we're
at it.

Speaker 3 (25:14):
The only other top twenty five team on the field
here in Week zero, you got Boise State on the
road in South Florida.

Speaker 1 (25:21):
Pete. It's a sixty four for the total.

Speaker 4 (25:25):
That's a lot of points. That's that's a little two penny,
but like that's actually, you know, we didn't talk about that.
That's a fun game too, because again we're talking about
you know crazy, is this sounds that we're talking about
this right now, but that is college football playoff implications too,
because you know, this is kind of it for Boise State,
don't have a whole lot of other games out there

(25:45):
that they can really hang their hats on. So let's
see if they can do this and down in Tampa,
Florida where it's not going to be necessarily cool and inviting.
And for UCF, who has been you know, dabbling with
being really good under Alex Skulish for the next last
two years, that's kind of one of those sleeper teams that,
all right, who's the team that's going to be the

(26:06):
sacrificial lamb and gets the you know, everyone gets the
cookie twelve spot in this playoff, Well, it might be
you see USF if everything kind of works out as planned,
because they've got the talent there now that they just
have to see if they can actually you know, get
to see going already.

Speaker 1 (26:23):
College Footballnews dot COM's Pete Futech with us Jason Smith
Mike Carmon live from the Fox Sports Radio studios. Let
me take you out of the games tomorrow to this
big story involving Arch Manning. Last week you said, listen,
you were stuck up on arch Manning stock down on Texas.
But a new book coming out, American Kings of Biography
of the Quarterback by Seth Wickersham, And we've heard a
lot about this over the course of the past few weeks,

(26:45):
different quarterbacks that he's following at different levels of the game,
and a big headline that's coming out of the book.
New York Posts had it, other different websites had it
today that when Alabama was recruiting arch Manning, they use
Steve Sarkisian's alcoholism that he went through in the past

(27:06):
to try to lure him away from Alabama. Now, Pete Golding,
who was then Alabama defensive coordinator, when he was talking
to arch Manning trying to recruit him, said Hey, I
love sark He's my best friend. I hope he can
stay sober. Like this is in a zoom call with
arch Manning where they're talking about schematics and culture, and
then said, I love sark He's my best friend. I

(27:28):
hope he can stay sober. What was your reaction when
you saw this story.

Speaker 4 (27:32):
Oh, it's fair in love and recruiting and just it's
you know, this is this is you know the game
I mean, it's not pretty. It is just everyone will
say everything, everyone will try everything. And this is where,
you know, in the case, this s wascific case is
a little bit different because if you're if you're negative
recruiting like that, and every since the beginning of football recruiting,

(27:55):
there's always been negative recruiting. This is ugly obviously, it's
not you know, you know, I say stuff like that,
but uh, there's always been some sort of negative recruiting
of some sort. And if you can find anything, hopefully
not like this, that you can use against uh, someone
who might take your guy away, well yeah, you're probably
gonna use it. The difference here being the is it's

(28:16):
the Mannings, and they they did about as thorough as certainty.
No one knows the infrastructure of football more than the
entire Manning family. So if the problem with that is okay,
even if he's you know, even by saying this, you
got to believe that the Mannings vetted Sarkisian every which

(28:36):
way before making this call, and they specifically went there
because they wanted him to be the guy who tutored
this tutored this kid.

Speaker 3 (28:44):
All right, Pete, let me go one more legal Leese,
go back to my alma mater just down the road
from you. Pat Fitzgerald and the settlement with Northwestern, their
long letter to say, hey, we found nothing to connect
him directly to any of this. Uh can can they
get him back on campus for the new stadium in Evanston?

Speaker 1 (29:03):
Or is he taken over for uh Ole Kirk in
Iowa at some point?

Speaker 4 (29:07):
Yeah? You know that he was an interesting situation before
because you know, if you took this out of the equation, uh,
he wasn't exactly rocking. You know, the Northwestern was okay,
I mean obviously pulled off a couple of miraculous seasons
here and there, but it was, you know this, he
wasn't actually doing a great job on the field and

(29:27):
win the losses when this all came down. So uh yeah,
I've always kind of thought too that he I'm kind
of shocked that he hasn't been you know, done the
you know, the coordinator thing somewhere where. Uh you know,
you can name the coach and you know, any sort
of scandal, whether you know, curves out fine for him
or not, and that coach will end up being a
defensive courtetor let's go back to Sarkegian. You know after

(29:49):
the USC thing, what did he do? He was you
know the you know back under Saban, you know the
low level plea for you under Saban staff where you're
sitting in the back and you just kind of take
notes stuff and you just kind of work your way
back up into all of a sudden everyone remembers, Oh, yeah,
you're a great coach. I'm kind of surprised that since
Cherald hasn't done that to just keep it keep you know,

(30:10):
keep his legs going. But yeah, I kind of think
that this at a very least we'll get him a
few looks and some offers.

Speaker 1 (30:16):
Again. He's on Twitter at Pete Feutech. That is, at
Petefeutech college footballnews dot com. You're one stop shopping for
everything college football, all the picks, all the prognostications going
into week zero. Pete, you got eight hundred words on
your FBS FCS zero week? Is that right up there?

Speaker 4 (30:34):
Or what actually four hundred in the new era of
Google that's killing the entire industry?

Speaker 1 (30:40):
Four and it's what's one long post? It's it's actually
three hundred characters on Twitter? Is what I have? Again?
Check out College Footballnews dot Com. Everything you could ever
want for college football. It is right there, Pete. Enjoy
the games. We'll talk to you next week when we're
looking at Week one playoffs and Heisman Trophy winners.

Speaker 4 (30:59):
Let's go, we go on.

Speaker 1 (31:01):
Welcome home Buddy. Great stuff from Pete Futech right there.
I love that idea, fbs FCS week one. That's an
awesome ida. It's it's getting a practice game without getting
a practice game. It's getting a win when you I
mean that what that That should appeal to everybody. That
is a phenomenal idea. Well, and they all get their
couple hundred thousand dollars buy ins to help fuel the program,

(31:24):
and they get it early.

Speaker 3 (31:25):
The the SEC thing I disagree with, Pete. I've always
hated that coming at the end of the year. Here's
a bye week before a rivalry game to end the
SEC schedule. But you know, however it comes out in
the wash, I guess folks have been happy enough with it.
But yeah, this would certainly solve a lot of issues.
And we get a.

Speaker 1 (31:46):
Preseason time now to find out what's trending in the
wide world of sports. With someone who's been called the
Heisman Trophy of Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (31:57):
That's the best trophy.

Speaker 1 (31:58):
If you're trying to take a bobblehead out of her hand,
she gives you that stiff arm. You are not getting.

Speaker 6 (32:02):
It, absolutely, but that is the best trophy. That's the
one I would if I could just, you know, pick
a trophy to win that I didn't earn, it would
be the Heisman.

Speaker 2 (32:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (32:12):
Oh, very okay, very good.

Speaker 2 (32:13):
I like that one for sure. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (32:15):
The NFL. You know, my kids, it is a more
attractive it is it is.

Speaker 6 (32:21):
I I am a fan.

Speaker 1 (32:22):
I'm a fan.

Speaker 6 (32:23):
The four games for Week three of the NFL preseason
that we had on this Friday night have wrapped up.
The Eagles held on nineteen seventeen against the Jets. The
Bears came back to beat the Chiefs twenty eight to
twenty seven as Tyson bige And threw his third touchdown
pass with three seconds left on the clock. The Falcons
defeated the Cowboys start he went to thirteen, and the
Titans top the Vikings twenty three to twelve. Buck Rising,

(32:44):
who is our colleague on the weekends here at Fox
Sports Radio and covers the Titans closely. He revealed that
there was a not suitable, not suitable for work. Green
item that was thrown on the field Bilbo Baggins Jason.

Speaker 1 (33:00):
Oh, Okay, Yes, another.

Speaker 6 (33:03):
One was thrown on the field, and this one was
at the Titans game and I looked it up just
he was the first one that had the story on
the video. Now it looks like more people are coming
out with the story. NFL Pro Football Network has it,
so Buck Rising first with the details on the green
item that went onto the field. In baseball, four games
going on, Ohennel Swad has just tied the game for

(33:25):
the Mariners against the A's in Seattle one to one,
bottom of the six, Padres edging the Dodgers in San
Diego two to one bottom of the eighth, Xander Bogart's
with the sack fly that gave the Padres the lead,
Diamondbacks edging the Reds forty three bottom of the seventh,
and the Cubs and the Angels are tied it to
top of the eighth. The Brewers walked it off five
to four against the Giants on a William Contrera's home run.
The Rangers walked it off forty three against the Guardians

(33:46):
on a Jock Peterson RBI double Tigers have won four
in a row.

Speaker 2 (33:49):
They defeated the Royal.

Speaker 6 (33:50):
Seven to five. Red Sox edge the Yankees one zero.
Boston moves past New York for second place in the
Al East. And the Mets had twenty one hits and
they took down the Braves twelve to Back to you guys.

Speaker 1 (34:01):
Thanks a bunch monch Yes, Jason Smith Mike Harmon, live
from the Fox Sports Radio Studios. Yeah, uh not the
only bit of drama going on at a preseason game tonight.
Wait until we tell you what happened. A picture has
gone viral in the final preseason game tonight of the

(34:23):
Dallas Cowboys. That's next, Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (34:31):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific, Fox.

Speaker 1 (34:39):
Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with My best friend
Mike Harmon, Padres and the Dodgers. Right now, top of
the ninth inning, Padres up two to one. Show, Heo
Tani has just flown out to the wall in dead
center field, Padres fans breathing a sigh of relief. He
almost got it, uh but one out top of the

(35:03):
ninth inning, Padres looking to get a measure of revenge
against otying the Dodgers for last week. And we'll have
more in this game coming up in a few minutes.
But you know, sometimes you think, well, we're not gonna
get drama in a game where no stars are playing,
where the biggest story is, is Joe Milton really any good?

Speaker 2 (35:21):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (35:21):
No, no no. The poker game that has been going
on with Jerry Jones and Micah Parsons and really Michaeh
Parsons agent where each side keeps raising the other until
one of them says that's it, I'm done, and that
means either Micah Parsons demands a trade and leaves Cowboys
camp or Jerry Jones says I'm giving you money or

(35:42):
I'm trading you. The latest step was taken not too
long ago, a picture that has started to go viral
this after the last couple of days where Jerry Jones
has gone on the pr offensive about Micah Parsons contract
situation where he said we had an offer and his
agent told us to stick it up our blank. And

(36:02):
today he does an interview and he talks about how
he doesn't have time for craziness going on and everybody's
gotta be happy. There's no room for Michaeh Parson's agent
and everything going on, like Jerry's going on the big
media blitz this week. Okay, Michaeh Parson decided to see
Jerry Jones's media blitz and raise you me looking like

(36:24):
I am sleeping on the sideline of the game against
the Falcons tonight. Now it's tough to see if he
actually is sleeping, but he's laying on a table with
his eyes closed, his hand over his eyes, like, Okay,
you want to say this stuff about me, I'll show
you I really don't want to be here right like

(36:45):
and again for everybody who says this is gonna work
out and Jerry's gonna give Michaeh Parsons his money, it's
never been antagonistic at all ever between Jerry and the
players that he's eventually paid. Has it been business? Yeah,
Ezekiel all it holding out? That's business, right, Dak Why
that's business. It's never been antagonistic. This is as antagonistic

(37:07):
and combative as you could possibly get with Jerry Jones,
Micah Parsons and his agent and with every day it's
getting worse and worse, and the optics get more and
more ridiculous. Tell me how this is gonna end with
Michah Parsons getting paid. Tell me if I know, Jerry
Jones is talking big saying no trade, no anything. But
eventually Michah Parsons he's gonna leave camp and Jerry Jones

(37:30):
is not gonna have him. He's not gonna be ready
to start the season, and he's gonna trade him someplace
else where. Michaeh Parsons will get paid. That's how, as
April Lavine taught us in Skater Boy, That's how the
story ends. Wow, you're trying to quote Skater Boy? Why
out here?

Speaker 4 (37:44):
All right?

Speaker 3 (37:44):
So Michael Parsons declined to comment leaving the stadium John
Bachota on Twitter. Trevon Diggs stepped up to answer questions,
will micap practice next week?

Speaker 1 (37:54):
Quote. I don't know. His back is kind of tight.
He had to get an MRI today. I don't know.

Speaker 3 (38:00):
So other than him coming out and saying, you know,
they they didn't provide me with the proper uh, you know,
lumbar support on the sideline, I think he just lost
a bit. Michaeh Parts lost a lot of the good
will he might have been building with fans of the team.
Maybe not teammates, but certainly fans of the team, going, really,

(38:21):
this is how we're gonna respond. They'd rather sit there
for four hours and do a podcast, uh and air
him out then then do this This This is just childlike.

Speaker 1 (38:30):
What are we doing? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (38:32):
Like this was just and now he's he's been put
in the middle, so like this, mom and dad are fighting,
and then Mike is just gonna sit there and lay
down and hold his breath.

Speaker 1 (38:42):
Well, I don't know, back to that again, well versus
Jerry Jones. Oh see, I thought you're going back to
him laying on the table where it looks like he
could be laying on the table holding his breath instead
of sleeping. No, but that's just it. I'm holding my breath.
La la la la la. But no, but that just
but that didn't get what I want. So now now
I'm here. That shows you how bad of a situation

(39:03):
this is. That this is where we're at. We're at
the ridiculous part of this where Jerry Jones is saying
crazy stuff every day, cursing in every interview he does.
And here's Micah Parsons unfollowing the Cowboys on social media
falling asleep back the gain. Honestly, I can't believe Parsons
is still with the Cowboys. He would get all that
money back.

Speaker 3 (39:22):
The way the deal works at this point is he
would get the fifty thousand dollars a day. So the
fact that he's been around looking like he wants to
be on the field at every time until he decided
to sleep today, Aprentice during a preseason game.

Speaker 1 (39:42):
This is a long week, man, I'm exhausted, all right,
I'm just gonna get some rest here.

Speaker 3 (39:46):
By the way, we always knew Jerry worked Blues, so
it's good to see that he's finally just letting it fly.

Speaker 1 (39:52):
Yeah again, tell me how this ends? Okay, tell me
how this ends? Okay?

Speaker 4 (39:56):
With you?

Speaker 1 (39:57):
With Jerry Jones and Michah Parson Again, it's never been
this bed with Jerry and anybody. There have been insults
like there is now never been. Keep your aging out
of it. There's the only room for two of us
in this negotiation. And guess what your age is not
one of them. I mean, tell me, tell me where
this ends? Well, I mean, I don't I fail to
see where this ends well, and it doesn't end with
Michael Parsons eventually on a different team. I like the

(40:20):
chaos factor that comes in because we've talked about.

Speaker 3 (40:22):
It a lot with you know, Jerry out of spite,
could just be that guy to say, you know what,
I principle, I'm just not I'm not training him because
doing that.

Speaker 1 (40:32):
I could see him for a little while. But then
he will do it. It will become such a it
will become such a distraction story. He will do it
knowing full well he's never gonna play for us again.
Because you'll get the same thing for Parsons in season,
you'll get out of season. You'll get the same thing
because he's a young player that you got a sign
to be so you'll still get that big haul for
him in the middle of the season. You'll still get
that then, and you might get him for some of
this year. Ye know, he's just he just gets the quarterback.

(40:56):
Jerry Jon just pays the money. Can I make it
anymore obvious? Big stuff out of the NFL Next Fox
