You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
Greetings, Welcome in side hour to the Jason Smith Show
with my best friend Mike Harmon.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
Today's Friday. It's not. It's only Wednesday, ty Shirt. How
do you know?
Speaker 1 (00:36):
That's T Shirt telling you he ain't coming in tomorrow.
He's done, and he ain't coming in Friday.
Speaker 3 (00:41):
A selfish bathrood. No, he's telling us this.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
Is his Friday. But do you have what I mean,
but your schedule two more days?
Speaker 2 (00:47):
No?
Speaker 3 (00:47):
Not if I don't come in day, all right, all right,
it's your Wednesday. Okay, it's not. It's not Friday.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
It's not.
Speaker 3 (00:54):
It's it's it's there's people who are off Wednesday Tuesday.
Pretty soon.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
For Bill Belichick, every day gonna be Friday. I actually
had that schedule for a while way back in the
day when every day was Friday, no, no, no, Wednesday
and thursdays off.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
Oh really yeah yeah, well that was.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
The starting you know Yahoo's sports. As we were doing
you kind of needed all hands on day.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
Right, Well that was always get the worst part.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
Like when I first started coming out of college, I
worked at ESPN right as a production assistant a producer.
Was like, oh my gods is great. And I worked
every weekend because obviously and nobody was off week Like.
If you were off on the weekend, it was like, whoa,
you're off on you're either really a big shot yeah,
or you didn't matter at all. But nobody who did
any kind of studio production was off on Saturday or Sunday.
(01:40):
You were never off, and and the only people that were.
And it was really weird because people who were off
Saturday said, well, what's it like, they go, what do
you think? It's like nobody else is, I can't do
anything like you have to be if there's only like
three or four people that are off on Saturday and Sundays,
this is.
Speaker 3 (01:54):
Where you go find the townies. Yeah a friends, No,
you go go away and get wild.
Speaker 1 (01:59):
No, but you worked ever like, and I was like
used to for a long time, like my day's off
for Thursday Friday, or Tuesday Wednesday or Monday Tuesday, Monday Tuesday.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
I was like, this is what it is, my day's on.
I'm okay. And I was okay with that for a
long time because I get out and get stuff done
during the day everything.
Speaker 1 (02:15):
So I didn't get stuff done. Then I'm going to
movies by myself. I got my own private screenings for movies, like, yeah,
go ahead, rolling out here, it's one o'clock, got a Tuesday.
I may stay for the next movie. All right, let's go.
It's exciting, man, exciting. So I get I like day
movies now and some of my favorite stuff to do.
Uh now, pretty much every day is gonna be Friday
for the Reds. Pretty soon things started out well for them,
(02:38):
and uh now they have not gotten better. No, the
Dodgers now lead this over the Reds seven to two.
An explosion of runs here in the sixth inning. You
get a Otani single that brings in the fourth run.
Mookie Bets double brings in the fifth run to Oscar Hernandez,
making up for the runs he gave up in the
(03:00):
first inning with a big double the center field to
bring in two runs. So he's operating a zero sum
number four tonight. I cost you two runs in the first,
I get you two runs back in the sixth.
Speaker 3 (03:11):
We're all even now.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
Okay, So the Dodgers right now are nine outs away
from the next round of the playoffs. Had their chance,
had their chance in the six runners on, but then
you get back to back strikeouts. Yeah, and Elie Dela
Cruz trying to check his swing and.
Speaker 3 (03:28):
That look up.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
Oh no, the slow motion like that'll be a gift.
Speaker 3 (03:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
I mean, Yamamoto just had that curve working. I mean
was he wasn't even throwing it for a he was
throwing it at the knees and it was just diving
to the dirt like it really was impressive.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
And I will say this now as bad as I
thought told you I felt bad a few minutes ago. Man,
I just got upset about the Mets when I watched
the Guardians and they're no hitting having lineup.
Speaker 3 (03:52):
Yeah, getting this far three series will get you angry tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
No, no, no, I don't care about the other ones, right,
but I will feel better if the Reds get knocked
out like okay, like if the Dodgers score ten runs
in the first two gawn, I'm like, okay, they probably
would have done that to the Mets anyway, because the
Mets had absolutely no pitching.
Speaker 3 (04:08):
They probably would have done it to Nolan McClain.
Speaker 1 (04:10):
He's the only one who was any good, like real
They had no other pitchers, nobody else besides Nolan McLain.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
So, okay, maybe they win the first game. Maybe maybe
he just leaves Game.
Speaker 1 (04:19):
One with a one to one tie and then when
the bullpen comes in the Dodgers win eleven to one.
But I'm like, Okay, if this is what happens, I feel.
Speaker 3 (04:25):
A lot better. Yeah, but bullpen on bullpen, that could
have been fun.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
Yeah, I will feel a lot better if the reds loose,
I'm like, Okay, I feel like I'll feel a lot better. Well,
now that ta Oscar made up for the air, We'll
see if he Yamamoto's back out for the seven ninety
three pitches after those back to back strikeouts to end
the sixth and now stake to an even larger lead,
whether he's free and breezy or yeah, he comes out
(04:50):
to start the start the seventh. Here four hits, two runs,
neither earned of course because of your old friend no
eight strikeouts zero. Watch again, just to just to put
this to think about this, right, we talk about, Hey,
this MLB playoffs isn't going to go without the Dodger
bullpen saying, hey, we have something to say about this, right, we.
Speaker 3 (05:13):
Got something as you think that dog, we got something
to say. We can't get.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
Anybody out, we got you're gonna see us, You're we're
gonna be there. The other part is this, the Dodgers
defense is not good.
Speaker 3 (05:24):
Right.
Speaker 1 (05:24):
They gave the two runs of the Reds early on
in this game with a fly ball. Of the flyball
right field task has to catch. You have a guy
playing right field. That's not good. Mookie Betts is not good.
You're not This is not a really strong defensive team.
And just to put in here, just to put that
away and think about a play against the Phillies or
whoever it's gonna be where they go, Oh man, that
defensive play really hurt them.
Speaker 3 (05:44):
There. It's a couple of things of the Dodgers, just
to think about. It's time going.
Speaker 1 (05:47):
Joey funny though yesterday obviously we're on air, we're breaking
the games down and talking up everything in sports, sports, sports.
It's one time that I thought about going back and
finding the podcast of the Dodgers Post, just to see
how negative the callers were, even though the offense was
great with five home runs and everything else, that it
was going to be all about the bullpen, because I
(06:08):
guarant damn t it was an hour of calls lamenting.
Speaker 3 (06:11):
The fate of the bullpen.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
Even with what Snell did as the starter and even
what that offense did, it became about the fifty nine
pitch eighth inning. Now, speaking of bullpens, I gotta tell
you this quick story before we get to the big
NFL story. I call my dad on the way in
and at this point it's three three three three, okay,
three three, and I asked him, you know what's going on?
(06:35):
He asked, Phoney goes hello. I go hey, what's up?
Speaker 3 (06:37):
Daddy goes hey, Uh, what does he have?
Speaker 1 (06:41):
Caller idea? Well, you know, yeah, he knows it's me Oka. No,
my dad's hip with that kind of technology. He's just
kind of when you did the oh, I didn't know
if it was not like game later or realized it was.
You know, it's not like he's got one of those
flip phones that from from a crime movie where it's
just hey, I flipp and it just you know, just
shows the phone number unknown caller. No, no, now, my
(07:01):
dad's my dad's got an iPhone. He's all good, everything
is okay.
Speaker 3 (07:08):
He's fine with that. This guy. But he answers the
phone and he says, hell, I go, hey, what's going on?
He goes, hey, gues ah, I go what? He goes ah?
Speaker 1 (07:16):
The bullpen. And it was when the Red Sox were,
you know, in the seventh inning. All the drama was
threat and here here's how fatal it like. You think
I'm a fatalist baseball fan. My dad when I said,
I said yeah, I said, I'll tell you what I said.
He goes, oh, this bullpen? Ah, man, I can't. I said, well,
ro don just He goes yeah, he lost it.
Speaker 3 (07:34):
He lost it.
Speaker 1 (07:35):
And I said yeah, I said, And before I can see,
my dad goes, well, next year he was and he
was already done.
Speaker 3 (07:44):
Next year.
Speaker 1 (07:45):
It's three three in the seventh inning and you stay
on and with the long enough for that inning day
he was done. No, no, no, I said, listen, I'll
call you back after the inning. Z O want to
miss it. So I called him after they got out
of the inning and then and then we talked for
a few minutes.
Speaker 3 (07:59):
But like just the way he's like, yeah, next year,
like seven he was. He was already done. I'm done.
I'm moving on. Hey, you compartmentalize it, put it on
the shelf. It's over.
Speaker 1 (08:09):
But Dad, it's the seventh inning. It's it's a tie
game if you win this. I mean what Okay, Okay,
I'm done.
Speaker 3 (08:17):
I'm done. Next year, next year, next year.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
Oh well, so in a classic character and you're written
a sitcom about him, he would be in it, though
I would have to put my dad in. I don't
know who would play him, though, I'm trying to think
he would play my dad.
Speaker 3 (08:31):
I mean maybe because it's time for Michael Richards to
make a comman. Wow, Michael Richards is my Yeah, you
just gotten some great reviews, some back and forth. Michael
Richards could.
Speaker 1 (08:42):
Be able to pull off being my dad. But you
know what you know from a physical resemblance though, Yeah,
who playing my dad is?
Speaker 3 (08:48):
Michael Kane? I know because he was my dad.
Speaker 1 (08:51):
Looks like if if Michael Caine and Art Garfunkle had
a child, like, that's what my dad looks like, like
I mean Garfunkle from the seventies shot like now like
because that's the kind of hair my dad had, like
the loose blonde hair.
Speaker 3 (09:05):
But he looks but also much so. If Michael Kane
art Garfunkle out of dad a baby, that would be
my dad. That's great.
Speaker 1 (09:10):
So I'd like seeing Michael Kane playing my dad would
actually be really fun. But coming out of retirement, he
could he not do it. I don't think he can't
not do an English act. I don't think he'd I
don't think he'd want him to. I don't think how
Walt is suddenly British. Your dad's from Britain.
Speaker 3 (09:25):
No, is not.
Speaker 1 (09:25):
Why the you know what, Just go with it. That's fine,
don't worry about it. We don't need quality. You were
only supposed to blow the bloody doors up.
Speaker 3 (09:31):
I never said that.
Speaker 1 (09:33):
You're not doing it the way that he speaks a right,
he got more nasily, and you don't do the broken
voice what he gets very emotional. She was eldly sixteen. Yeah,
the Yankee bullpen. You were only supposed to blow the
bloody doors off.
Speaker 3 (09:46):
Right then?
Speaker 1 (09:46):
That was the name of his autobiography. For one, It's
worth wasn't really Oh I didn't know that, Okay, but
you don't do the broken voice what he gets very emotional.
Speaker 3 (09:55):
So he gets loudly.
Speaker 1 (09:56):
Indeed again Dodger's read seven to I will feel better
if the Reds get knocked out.
Speaker 3 (10:01):
Yeah, immono, I'm not leaving.
Speaker 1 (10:03):
Here's a Here's a Big Bowl prediction for you for
the NFL season. Off of Big News Today, Lamar Jackson
and the Ravens. We talked to Jason Locking for a
last hour on the show. Facing as big of a
must win Game five as you could because of what
they are projected for this year. This is a super
(10:24):
Bowl or bust year for the Ravens and here they
are one in three. Lamar Jackson is hurt. The Texans
finally get a win last week against a really, really
bad team, but the Ravens have said absolutely nothing about
Jackson's chances to play this weekend against the Texans. Still
didn't practice because of a hamstring injury, not doing anything at
practice that you know. I can't believe they got blown
(10:46):
out of Kansas City the way they did, but they did,
and looking back at this, now here he is Lamar
Jackson and Jason Locking for you know Baltimore Guy Radio
in Baltimore says, look, I don't think he's playing not
do anything at practice. It's going to be Cooper Rush
for a couple of weeks and this is out. This
is where the season comes down to. And I'll give
you this Bowl prediction because it's not about Lamar Jackson
(11:08):
getting hurt. It's it's not about that. Is that at
the end of the season, we're gonna look back and
say the Raven season ended week one. Sometimes that happens.
Sometimes it sucks to say that because you.
Speaker 3 (11:22):
Want to think after week one.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
But sometimes a team loses a game Week one that
they never get back from. And it could be it
could be from the perspective of we're a new team.
Everything is going our way. Everything we had hoped we're
going to do in the summer we're getting to do,
and we blow the game and now we go on
a tailspin, which should be the New York Jets right
(11:44):
losing that game again, their season ended week one when
they lost that game with the Steelers and gave the
game away. When everything was how they looked at things
wanted to be offensively, and they give the gameway.
Speaker 3 (11:54):
Turnovers to the Steelers. Sometimes when you have a.
Speaker 1 (11:57):
Great vision for the season and you supposed to be
one of the best, and you gack away a game
like that to the Bills, which has been the game
of the year in the NFL, you got that game away.
They still haven't come back from that. They still have not.
They had some big plays to beat the Browns, and
the Browns offense is absolutely Look they went to Dylan
gabriel Man. That tells you how bad the Browns offense is.
(12:18):
And still that game was a little bit closer than
than that forty one to seventeen score was. The Ravens
still have not recovered from that game. And at the
end of the season when we're talking about John Harbaugh
getting fired and a new head coach coming in, because
that's what's gonna happen, because coming into this season to
fail like this, John Harbaugh is the one common denominator
(12:39):
all the way through. Can you really go to next
year and say, now we got it, this year was
a bad year, Harba, No, John Harbaugh is the guy.
Because there's gonna have to be some sort of responsibility
laid at someone's feet for the way this season has
gone and the way it's going for the Ravens, They're
not coming back from this. Lamar Jackson hurt. The next
couple of weeks, they could wind it be one and five,
one and six before they start winning games again, and
(13:01):
again you're running out of real estate. At the end
of the season. We're gonna look back and say Week
one doom the Ravens, and the Ravens are gonna be
looking for a new head coach because they will have said,
we got as far as we can with John Harbaugh.
Speaker 3 (13:14):
We need a new voice.
Speaker 1 (13:15):
We need to do something going on, because there's all
kinds of different reasons why we could say why we
haven't gone further in the playoffs, right, Lamar turns the
ball over, more Mark Andrews drops a pass, we miss
a kick, All of these things you can say, but
the one thing for this year, Okay, he's been the
common denominator and in a year where things were difficult,
we never got out of it. So we can't change
these players because Lamar is the MVP. We got great
(13:37):
guys in here. So it's gonna be a new head
coach and it's gonna be we have to change it
just because we can't waste any more time. We need
to try to get to that next level. Yeah, the
hard part is now that you're you're walking through and
if you look at their injury list beyond Lamar Jackson,
Ronnie Stanley, who was fantastic for them a year ago
and stayed healthy, a big cog in the machine that
(13:59):
helped Derek can reha the year and Lamar to take
that next step forward protecting blind side and pass pro
and all that fun stuff. So he put up the
pinball numbers. But you've got defensively, Meta Bueka is off
the defensive line, Roquand Smith's gonna miss several weeks, probably
all the way through that battle against Chicago at the
(14:22):
end of the month, and then Humphrey's hurt as well.
Speaker 3 (14:25):
So you're losing.
Speaker 1 (14:27):
A ton of your starting players on what was supposed
to be the best roster. Now it's a very compromised roster.
Just that fast and Derreck Henry the last three weeks
has looked like just a guy, especially as that offensive
line continues to crumble. Something Jason lockinfora pointed out as well,
how trying to mix and match to get to some
(14:47):
semblance of consistency on the right side has been a
disaster as well. This week you got Houston your help
by the fact that they are offensively how should we say, challenged,
And then the following week, oh no, wait, do you
got you got the Rams before your bye week?
Speaker 3 (15:03):
Good luck? And then a date with the good luck
right and so right now, and a day with the Bears.
Man that the way they're going.
Speaker 1 (15:12):
And the way Caleb Williams that offense is playing man
look out look. And then after the after the Bears,
you get a road game at Miami, a road game
at Minnesota, a road game at Cleveland, and then you're
in New York Jets come to call. So uh in
other ways game, you have a four game stretch, and
then you're back in division with a game at home
against Cincinnati, who the hell knows who their quarterback is
(15:34):
by that point. But all of it to say, Harbaugh
probably avoids the sort of damnacles because they can point
to the fact that the roster is now so woefully depleted.
But that week one loss, Yeah, I agree. There's there's
a lot that you take away from gacking away that
kind of game in the fourth quarter to your chief rival. Right,
(15:57):
this wasn't a team that jumped up and bitch you,
because we see that every year or most years. This
year we had the first couple of weeks where the
spread of any quote upset was three or less. But
every other year you've had that. Wow, I had double digit.
You know, underdog came up and won a game. Uh,
this was not it. This was made for TV prime
(16:20):
time battle of the heavyweights, and you gagged it away
in the fourth quarter. Couldn't finish on either side. Tell
him the end of the season. When John Harbaugh's out,
he walks away. We're gonna say week one they never
got over Week one? Do he and Mike Tomlin exchange
hats and just go to the other locker room.
Speaker 3 (16:38):
Oh, that's just a trade. That's a trade, ye walk right,
here's my hat. Take.
Speaker 1 (16:43):
Yeah, they take pictures at midfield, like the players with
the jerseys when they swap at the end of my
bad after we keep their rivalry alive and now they
have to coach the other Mike Tomin hands them the
puffy coat. Had I like to wear this and big
playoff games. We haven't had that, and that's why I'm
that's why I'm over in the new locker room. But
here's the puffy coat. You also inherit that really giant
sized picture of Heinz Ward running through Heinz Field from
(17:05):
Batman that we love so much. Exit out about a
Fresca Exit swollen down The Jason Smith Show with my
best friend Mike Harbon. Dodgers get out of the top
of the seventh Blake Troning comes in, shuts down the
Red seven to two. Going to the bottom of the
seventh inning, the Dodge six outs away from being the
first team to qualify for the next round of the playoffs.
We got more baseball on the way straight ahead. The
(17:28):
most bizarre sports moment of the day. And it's not
even close. Oh no, it's not stop.
Speaker 3 (17:39):
That's next Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio. Oh no, no, no.

Speaker 1 (19:40):
Sports Radio, the Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmon. Now, to get to at least eight to
nine inches, then that's gonna be good. Bottom of the
seventh inning, Dodgers really trying to break it open against
the Reds first and second, one out, they leaded seven
to two. Mookie bets up for the Dodgers again, just
(20:00):
six outs away from the next round of the playoffs.
But another couple of runs here that might even make
it bullpen proof for the Dodgers. Like I say, you
were saying the five run lead, I don't even needed
bolstering the Dodger bullpen there's many more and Mookie Betts
just doubles down the line and left brings in another run.
Make it eight to two Dodgers now second and third
(20:21):
with one out. Yeah, I think even now, let's see
two innings, six runs, I'd feel better. But if they
get these two in and it's ten to two, I'll
feel good because then the Dodgers bullpen can give up
three runs in the eighth and three runs of the
ninth and still win.
Speaker 3 (20:35):
Okay, so then I'll feel Of.
Speaker 1 (20:36):
Course, now I'm distracted because they started showing crowd shots
and there was a guy that looked like he might
have been Harvey Kaitel and a Dodgers shouldn't.
Speaker 3 (20:47):
Leave it on the Mets.
Speaker 1 (20:48):
So pitching change going on right now, Terry Francona saying, listen,
I know we got a eight flight back.
Speaker 3 (20:53):
It's fine.
Speaker 1 (20:54):
Eight to two Dodgers with the lead over the Reds
in the bottom of the seventh inning. Meanwhile, the most
bizarre moment of the day in sports comes to us
courtesy of what happened during the Padres Cubs game on
ESPN earlier today.
Speaker 3 (21:09):
Right, this is just this.
Speaker 1 (21:11):
I still can't believe this, and I really want to
be a fly on the wall at ESPN tomorrow. So
Kevin Brown and Ben McDonald former teen USA Ben McDonald
top notch.
Speaker 3 (21:21):
Yeah, prospect with the Orioles.
Speaker 1 (21:24):
It was okay, he wasn't quite the guy, but he
was gonna be. He was the Josen War was no
Ben mc I mean I made his college career, come on.
Speaker 3 (21:31):
Yeah, no, no, no.
Speaker 1 (21:32):
And and the amount that I heard about Ben McDonald
coming up compared to what Ben McDonald's career really was. Man,
I made a lot of money off nineteen ninety upper
deck cards McDonald's. I mean, Ben McDonald, he had a
fine career. But you talk about number one overall picking
the draft, Well, you thought Ben McDonald was going to
be great, right, I mean he was, he was okay,
(21:53):
but he's you know, yeah anyway, so Ben McDonalds yeah,
well yeah, well nineties Oriels were fine. Yeah, all right,
you know, I mean they pet you know, then Jeffrey
Mayer catches that home run and then that's it. Jeffrey Mayor,
who I think is fifty now, he's still out there
(22:13):
like that other guy Shagonball. Jeffrey Mayer is like, you know,
you see that picture, do you know who this is.
And it's some dude with a beard, and it's like
it looks like he's forty. Go this is the baby
on the cover of Nirvana Nevermind album.
Speaker 3 (22:24):
Like, okay, this is a lawsuit, got dismissed.
Speaker 1 (22:27):
This is Jeffrey Mayor. Now, oh my god, Jeffrey Mayor's
forty five years old. So Ben McDonald doing the game
for ESPN, and of course ESPN, like you see everywhere, when.
Speaker 3 (22:39):
You have something coming up, you do a promo for it.
Speaker 1 (22:42):
October seventh is opening day for the NHL, right, okay,
So they got a big triple header promo going include
huge the Panthers unveiling the Stanley Cup banner, going for
a three peete sorryo pat Riley seven dollars, going for
their third Stanley Cup in a row. So Kevin Brown
and Ben McDonald, hey, let's have a quick discussion about this.
Speaker 3 (23:02):
It's a promo.
Speaker 1 (23:03):
We're promoing that ESPN is going to have the NHL
and opening night is coming up on October seventh. Except,
in the words of Marv Albert, this did not go
exactly how ESPN had it in mind. Here's Kevin Brown
and more importantly, Ben McDonald Blackhawks.
Speaker 5 (23:21):
Return to the ice next Tuesday, NHL Opening Night against
the defending champion Florida Panthers at five eastern, four Central
on ESPN triple header than Night Penguins, Rangers, Avalanche, Kings.
Speaker 3 (23:36):
Ben, I know you've got to pin on this. Panthers
three pete this year.
Speaker 1 (23:40):
What do you think If you say so, I mean
good luck to him.
Speaker 3 (23:44):
Are you asking if I'm going to be watching? No,
I know you'll be watching. Of course, because you work
for Espen. You'll be watching today night. So there is
zero tan top you watch it. Almo's gonna be honest,
where will you think?
Speaker 1 (23:55):
I will be somewhere?
Speaker 3 (23:56):
But there's zero tanta top be watching? All right, thanks, Ben,
We'll be watching. There is zero t D.
Speaker 1 (24:05):
I'm sitting there and it's like the the curse words
are just just behind there is.
Speaker 3 (24:11):
There is zero chance I'm gonna be watching this game.
There is zero.
Speaker 1 (24:15):
Chance seven your rights deal four hundred million dollars annually, ABC,
ESPN just beginning, uh that promo they're doing also, right,
Blackhawks with Connor Bdard and and some opportunity for them
to finally rise up and be relevant again. Here's one
of the stars. Defending Champ two time and dismissed. If
(24:37):
you say so, all right, you think the Panthers could win,
say if you say so right now.
Speaker 3 (24:42):
And copy before you open the mic.
Speaker 1 (24:44):
I know, I know, but that's the thing is that Okay,
take you behind the curtain here right, Here's all that's
going on. ESPN is just hoping at this point. And
Kevin Bryan, you gotta know your partner a little bit too,
but you also have to know, I'm not gonna completely
just just you know, lose my lunch over something that
ESPN is promoting. Right if it's not your thing, Okay,
(25:06):
I get it's not your thing. Say hey, if you
if you say so Panthers, okay, great. And at that point,
Kevin Brown's gotta know, okay, he's not gonna get right.
Speaker 3 (25:14):
I'll say, hey, yeah, you know, Hey, that's the thing.
That's the thing. That's the thing. Ben. Three Stanley cups
in a row. They're going for all of a sudden.
Speaker 1 (25:21):
Paul Maurice, who I remember when he got his first
break coach in the bleep in Hartford Whalers. Now this
year he's gonna wind up being the second most winning
his coach in NHL history, Like, come on, man.
Speaker 3 (25:31):
But this is it.
Speaker 1 (25:32):
You gotta be Paul Hayman. You gotta be whoever, and
you gotta pull it back.
Speaker 3 (25:35):
All right. My talent's not giving me anything. I got nothing.
Speaker 1 (25:38):
But all ESPN is hoping for is hey, a quick
promo segue back into the game, right, don't crap, don't
don't just completely rain on the parade. I was gonna say,
just don't rain on the parade of Hey, here's here's
the here's the Stanley Cup, here's an NHL season starting
in a few days. And it said Ben McDonald's yeah, no,
if you say so, okay, great, but then you gotta
(25:59):
know if you're the host, okay, don't say anything, but
you also know if you're Ben McDonald, don't say there's
zero chance you're watching, and then don't repeat it, like
where's the producer and a zero going Dude, don't say
it's a big deal for ESPN. Ah, there's zero chance
I'm gonna be watching that. Not that all of a
sudden people are gonna stop watching the NHL because Ben
McDonald says, I'm not watching, but you But here's here's
something that ESPs A. Hey, we got a big promo
(26:20):
for we spent a lot of money. It's a big deal.
It's a promo. It's out there. Yeah, I'm not watching
that opening night, trum. Welcome back to the National Hockey League.
When when when you when local news is doing a
promo at ten forty five? And I don't even watch
network TV anymore, So what do I even say in.
Speaker 3 (26:39):
The middle of the Law and Order? But what's the
show on Big Sky?
Speaker 1 (26:42):
Right?
Speaker 3 (26:42):
Is that still on?
Speaker 1 (26:43):
Or what you do on Doctor the Doctor with Molly Parker? Okay,
because I know that's on, right, Who the hell's Molly
Parker from Deadwood?
Speaker 3 (26:52):
Now she's on? She's a doctor.
Speaker 1 (26:53):
I know that because I see the promos for that,
because it's oh, she was a doctor. She lost the
last like a few years of her life after a
car I remember that commercial apparently would be to tell
apparently crazy that's in the promo. Now they know that's
in the don't spoil the promo. She's a doctor and
and something. And I've always liked Molly Parkerson since Deadwood, right,
(27:14):
she was a really good in House of Cards and
the if I get this, because again I don't watch
network TV, because no show's run Network TV anymore. She's
a doctor, and she's a doctor for a long time
at this hospital. But she has a car accident and
she loses eight years of her life, Like for eight years,
she's like whatever it is, and then she comes out
of it and eventually gets her job back and ring.
(27:36):
But apparently all these things that have happened in the
eight years and what happened before the car accident, it's
part of the drama, right. So, And I think Scott
Wolfe was a bad guy in the first year.
Speaker 3 (27:46):
I think I think he don't think he's coming back.
I think it was No, I think it was.
Speaker 1 (27:49):
I think I think what happened was Scott Wolfe's like, hey,
I'm raising all my brothers and sisters with Matthew Fox,
and you did this to us, and I can't believe.
Speaker 3 (27:57):
I'm closer to free And look at this.
Speaker 1 (27:59):
We got Jennifer love Hewitt and this thing and everything
else and Lacey Shaver and all these other people that.
Speaker 3 (28:04):
Are on Hallmark now and I'm on Hallmark now. That's
what happened to my career.
Speaker 1 (28:08):
Molly bart tell me, you don't watch everything Lacy Sverer does,
so legend So this is the promo that's on, right,
Like you don't see local net you know when when
they do local network promos going hey, coming up after
the doctor, Hey are your children in dire jeopardy? You know,
find out And then the other announcer doesn't go, yeah,
who's watching this show? Like now, you don't do that, right,
(28:31):
It's okay, it's a promo. Don't embarrass the network just
to if it's.
Speaker 3 (28:35):
Not your thing. Okay, but here he is here he.
Speaker 1 (28:38):
Say, or zero Chants, or the late night hosts, you know,
they go, hey, here's what's coming up on me, you know,
insert host here, and he says my guest tonight.
Speaker 3 (28:48):
I was like, yeah, I don't like either of those people.
I mean, really, that's just that's that guy's not funny.
They don't say it.
Speaker 1 (28:55):
It's so great that to have them to sit there
and say, yeah, zero Chants, I'm gonna be watching.
Speaker 2 (29:01):
It.
Speaker 1 (29:02):
Yeah, not gonna do it. And then he doubled down, Oh,
I know, right, and I dude, don't say that. Don't
say I mean, I get it was funny, but I
guarantee you Ben McDonald is going to be having a
conversation with some big higher up tomorrow going, hey, don't
do that, man, This is a is a big deal.
Speaker 3 (29:19):
This is when their producer got in trouble too, though
I'm sure I'm right.
Speaker 1 (29:22):
Producer got in trouble because they clearly hadn't vetted anything,
because because if they know Ben McDonald at all, yeah,
they know, Uh, how.
Speaker 3 (29:32):
Should I say this nicely? Hockey's not as strung? No, no, no,
it's it's so you're.
Speaker 1 (29:37):
Going to try to make sure you script that to
be as painless a forty seconds as you possibly can't.
And now back to hey the batter stepping in?
Speaker 3 (29:46):
Okay?
Speaker 1 (29:47):
Now, John buci Gross, longtime ESPN hockey guy, the hockey
Maven Right, he put on his Twitter account he quote
tweeted that that story and wrote zero was also how
many postseason innings Ben McDonald pitching his MLB career. It's
funny because it's true he's shaving Ben McDonald. Now here's
where this becomes like and I see this and I
(30:08):
know exactly what's going on because and I could take
you back to when when I was at NFL Network, right,
and they first started doing Fantasy Live.
Speaker 3 (30:14):
Hey, where's the old music? Here you go? Thank you?
Speaker 1 (30:17):
And Fantasy Live first started show still on now. I
was there for three years doing Fantasy Live. They always
tried to integrate other talent to do fantasy stuff. And
it was and and like Kurt Warner was a guy.
Now Kurt Warner loves fantasy right this fantasy by Kurt Warner.
Warner's probably getting a check. Has hated fantasy football, didn't I.
(30:38):
And there were times where if we were doing something
and I remember we did a Thursday night football game
where I was doing the the NFL dot com broadcast,
see me and Michael Fabiano, and we did a fantasy
hit like of what went on to like it would
be Kurt Warner and like Jamie Dukes and and I
think Elliott Harrison whoever else was on the desk and
they would talk about the game. They'd throw it to us.
We do a fantasy update, bring it back and we
(31:00):
would talk. We would say, I remember throwing it back
once and and Kurt Warner saying, hey, you know fantasy. Yeah,
you know people people ask me about fantasy all the time.
I want to talk real football. I want to talk
real football. I'm like, dude, why are you just rating
on everything we just did right there? Like if fantasy's
not your thing, I get it, right, I get it,
But why would you do that? And that there was
a couple of people that work there that just didn't
(31:21):
want to talk. I'm like, Okay, if you don't want
to talk fantasy, that's cool, but don't sit here and
make it seem like it's it's not worth my time.
Speaker 3 (31:28):
This is not.
Speaker 1 (31:29):
If fantasy is a big deal, it means a lot
to a lot of people. Right, the NHL is a
big deal. It means a lot to a lot of people.
So I'm like, if you know, if that's not your thing,
I get it, but don't go out and embarrass, embarrass
yourself and embarrassed the sport and embarrass of fans by
saying that it's done it man and Kurt and I
think years later he's probably been said by his family members.
(31:50):
Is maybe his son playing college foot or whatever grabbed
him around and said, hey, dad, A lot of the
fans you have, yeah, are because of how good you
were as a fantasy player. That's how they know who
you are, right, correct, No, he's a fantastic guess it
great met him a number of times, like always kind
with his time and walking you through. But but for
a lot of those guys, I think once they realized
(32:11):
how much that was lending to the business overall.
Speaker 3 (32:15):
The tune changed.
Speaker 1 (32:16):
Yeah, because I remember, I remember all those fights back
in the day of well, you know fantasy. Well, you
guys are just a bunch of nurs like yeah, yeah,
but it's based on what you're doing, and we're promoting
what you're doing, So suck.
Speaker 3 (32:29):
It up and do it.
Speaker 1 (32:30):
I even I had a radio partner twenty years ago,
one of my first radio partners who hated fantasy. Oh,
we can't talk about fantasy. It's too hard to talk
about hated fany to fantasy. Now I just saw a thing.
He's got a fantasy podcast. Of course, a fantasy podcast.
Speaker 3 (32:43):
Didn't want to talk about it all. I need podcasts at all.
Speaker 1 (32:46):
We've had plenty of people we know in our business
who mocked podcasting. Time now to find out what's trending
in the wide world of sports. But a guy has
been called the Ben McDonald of Fox Sports Radio EI EI, Oh,
well with that. That's because there's zero chance he's going
to be watching the Reds play in about ten minutes.
Speaker 6 (33:06):
Yes, our top trending story guys the Edmonton Oilers acquiring
Utah Mammoth goaltender Connor Ingram for future consideration.
Speaker 3 (33:16):
In exchanged for Connor McDavid.
Speaker 6 (33:20):
That's for you, Ben McDonald. In a related story, Fox
Sports Radio has obtained a message the National Hockey League
has sent to Ben McDonald's bosses.
Speaker 1 (33:28):
In accountability in here, boys, It's got some accountability going
here now.
Speaker 3 (33:31):
Anyway.
Speaker 6 (33:32):
On to Game two of the National League Wildcard Round,
the Los Angeles Dodgers up eight to two over the
Cincinnati Reds in the top of the eighth inning, with
the Dodgers already leading the series one game to none.
At the top of the sixth inning, the Dodgers were
leading three to two when the Reds loaded the bases
with nobody out but did not score, and then the
Dodgers would proceed to score four runs in the bottom
(33:54):
of the sixth inning show Hey O Tani RBI single,
Mookie Betts RBI double, and then a two run double
by Teosker Hernandez. In the bottom of the seventh inning,
Bets had another RBI double, so Bets with four hits
in this game, three RBI and three doubles. Earlier, the
New York Yankees forced a deciding Game three with a
(34:15):
four to three win over the Red Sox Austin Wells
the go ahead RBI single in the bottom of the eighth,
The Cleveland Guardians forced to deciding Game three with a
six to one win over the Detroit Tigers, and the
San Diego Padres forced to decide in Game three with
a three to nothing victory over the Cubs.
Speaker 3 (34:32):

Speaker 1 (35:28):
Sweet Dodger Bullpen, Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show
with my best friend Mike Harmon top of the eighth inning,
Dodgers lead the Reds to four. They had bases loaded,
(35:48):
nobody out. Hayes with a sacrifice fly that's away the
Dodgers and Emmett Chen comes out of the game mid count.
He almost hit Benson with a pitch and Benson, you
have to lean into that, man. Come on, when you're
zing too, you got to lean into that. You empty
bas maybe uh and she In comes out of the
(36:08):
game mid count one two, so one and two one out.
Eighth inning, Dodgers trying to haul. I told you eight too.
I wasn't caught. No feeling if you got to ten.
I feel okay for the Dodgers, But.
Speaker 3 (36:21):
Eight four, one out too one.
Speaker 1 (36:25):
When you have to score ten runs a game to
feel kind of secure, Yeah yeah, yeah, But I mean
look at this back to back days, the efforts you
got from Blake Snell and then once you got from Yamamoto. Yeah,
and both nights people are getting gray hairs and aging
a little bit. I mean Dave Roberts, I mean, how
(36:45):
many an acids is he downed in the last twenty four.
Speaker 3 (36:48):
Oh, he's eating tombs out of a candy dish. You
get this ball out?
Speaker 1 (36:51):
Yeah, but you gots no no, no, no no no,
that's not of m's.
Speaker 3 (36:55):
But that that's is that checks mixed? No no no,
you just just have one. Just have one.
Speaker 1 (36:59):
You'll be fine. So again, here we are Dodgers trying
to hold on in the eighth inning.
Speaker 3 (37:06):
In this series.
Speaker 1 (37:07):
They have thrown eighty six pitches, given up five runs,
six walks, and four hits. So the eighth inning for
the Dodgers' bullpen, not great, Bob, not great for those.
Speaker 3 (37:15):
Keeping dragging at home.
Speaker 1 (37:15):
That's twenty seven pitches already in this one, because they
had fifty.
Speaker 3 (37:19):
Nine a night ago. So we eight.
Speaker 1 (37:21):
We'll have more on this game coming up in a
couple minutes. Again, pitching change going on in LA. But
tomorrow night TNF we get the Niners in the Rams.
Speaker 3 (37:31):
Yay.
Speaker 1 (37:31):
I'd love to be able to find a way where
I can tell you, yeah, this is gonna be a
close game, but likely it's no brock perty no, Ricky
Piersoll Jennings, no, Juwan Jennings No. Montana Young is out.
Steve Bono is out, John Taylor is out, Brenton Jones
is out.
Speaker 3 (37:49):
Is Haley with the Cowboys? Now, I don't remember. Haley
is out?
Speaker 1 (37:53):
No, he's out with the Cowboys. They have no pass rusher.
Gary Plummer is out. Yeah, they're all at Merton Hanks
is out. Everybody is out the Ramsten haanks By. The
Rams are going to smoke the forty nine ers. They're
gonna be exposed by the better team. The Rams are loaded.
They're stacking wins early party Sea, which is all they
(38:14):
need to do because they're the best version of themselves
at the end of the end of the season. But
this is not just gonna be a Rams win, but
the Rams are gonna win huge. Their passing game is
heating up. You saw what they were like last week.
Pretty soon, this offense is gonna be absolutely unstoppable and
they're gonna be able to run on San Francisco as well.
Because you watched the Jaguars do it last game. This
(38:35):
is gonna be a week where everything the Rams can
do is on display. The Rams win, they cover, they
take would take the over, and tomorrow night we're gonna
talk about are the Rams the best team in the NFC?
Remember I have the Rams in the NFC Championship game,
so you know what I'm gonna say. But if this
I'll be the most surprised guy in the world if
this isn't a Rams runaway victory tomorrow at on Tianailly
(38:58):
Hope you got your bets in early in the week.
Back when this opened, it was the Rams minus one
and a half, and bit by bit all the information
coming to light. Mac Jones playing with a depleted roster,
you're looking at Christian McCaffery, who's been more effective as
a receiver. And even then you're not getting the big
explosive plays. No Pearcel, no Jennings and of course defensively
(39:21):
Bosa out and no George Kittle not coming back just yet.
So it all lines up for one of those games
for Kyra and Williams and for Blake Korum to have
themselves a day telling.
Speaker 3 (39:34):
You, man, this is the Rams are.
Speaker 1 (39:37):
Everybody's gonna get to see it tomorrow night, right because
they escaped on Sunday the at Ni Mitchell play. The
Rams have had a really difficult schedule the first four weeks,
and they're sitting at three and one, right, they should
be four and if they could have executed blocking a
field goal, they beat the Eagles there four and oh
and then maybe at the end of the season, that
NFC Championship game is in LA and not in Philadelpia.
(39:57):
And if Mitchell doesn't drop the ball going in, we
don't have that plays you want to talk about changing
a game, it's not just that play, right, it's seven points,
but that is that might as well be twenty one.
But they're not one in four, which is what normally
the Rams are, and they're usually hurt and wishing and
hoping that they they're coming back into play, like right now.
Speaker 3 (40:19):
The division is there to create distance, just stack wins,
and that's what's going to happen tomorrow night. Rams.
Speaker 1 (40:25):
They cover the over. What's the spread? The spread was
one and a half. I thought you're gonna say, like
it's a twenty U No, no, no, no, this is
not you know, pick one of your lesser than.
Speaker 3 (40:35):
Teams even still have some fight.
Speaker 1 (40:37):
I take one of those super teas games for the
for the what I gotta do. I gotta give twenty. Yeah,
I'll tell all the way there. It's out to eight
and a half in a couple of books. We got
more NFL on the way. But coming up next, what
baseball team feels the best after tonight?
Speaker 3 (40:52):
That's Fox
