with My best friend Mike Harmon, Apple.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
Original Films and Warner Brothers Pictures F one.
Speaker 1 (00:37):
The movie is a heart pounding underdog story from the
director of Top Gun, Maverick. It is Top Gun on wheels.
F won the movie starring Brad Pitt. See it on
the biggest screen possible, only in theaters in Imax this Friday,
rated PG thirteen. Mike and I got to see it
a couple of weeks ago. Yes, go there, see it
on a big screen. You want to see it. You
will feel like you are immersed in the movie. Be
(00:59):
like that cause thing, Yeah, you're in LA except you're
actually just watching a movie. Well, I'm waiting to see
if my fire shoe gets here. On time for Friday showing.
I mean, I'm gonna go im in his cosplay. Everybody
else dresses like wizard or whatever. I'm gonna dress like
a driver. I think what kind of patches you got
on your on your suit?
Speaker 3 (01:16):
There? Your driver's suit to the move.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
Maybe a helmet.
Speaker 3 (01:20):
You don't know. Is that guy part of daft Punker?
Is he an F one driver? I don't know.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
It's really hot. I'm gonna pull Russel. Just take your
helmet off.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
Nobody ruins the illusion.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
Goog the helmet up.
Speaker 1 (01:34):
But I'm suck fuck man, I'm five foot nothing. I
might be Tom Cruise in this fire suit watching this movie.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
You don't know, take on the just rivulange pouring down
your face. How much weight did you lose?
Speaker 1 (01:47):
Thirty seven pounds and all in my head because I
lost it all because it was you got like a
shrunken head. You'd be like the guy at the end
of Beetlejuice that he's sitting next.
Speaker 3 (01:56):
To Hey been here a long time? What are you
waiting for?
Speaker 1 (01:58):
Okay, that's great, So we'll have more on the NBA
Finals coming up in a few minutes. A big reaction
to Tyres Halliburton's achilles injury, which is now gonna put
him out for maybe most or all of next season.
But I gotta think the NBA not quite as happy
with the Hey, we got Game seven coming up today.
Oh yeah, by the way, we're gonna kind of hit
(02:19):
you off the bat with the Kevin Durant trade. Oh
you couldn't wait a day, couldn't wait a day to
announce it, couldn't wait two days to announce it. I mean,
I know your trading picks and everything, but this morning,
the morning of Game seven of the NBA Finals went. Honestly,
that was just as big a headline as Game seven
of the Finals was.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
It was funny.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
I was in in studio doing my Fox Sports Sunday
show with Dan Byer when the news broke and he
invoked the name of David Stern, and I'm like, well,
But it was done at fanatics Fest, which is a
huge event being put on Michael Ruven, lots of money,
lots of activations, your heavy hitters, hel Victor Webbanyama was
back from his monastery break to go buy some sign
(02:59):
Star Wars Worst cards, as well as a number of
other luminaries from Entertainment Sports Brady buying a two hundred
and fifty thousand dollars Lebron James card you can, says,
I'll fix if the money transacts. I don't care how
much of it's a k fabe for video only kind
of thing, but all of it's the same. Yeah, it
was a nice choreographed orchestrated thing with kd Up there.
(03:21):
Taylor Rooks had no notes in her hand or a
phone for that, she had a note card to ask
questions and evidently with the particulars of the deal as
Kevin Durant sat there. So yeah, with the finals that
we'd lamented or most of the media had. Look, I
celebrate all championship runs. They're not all created equal, but
we were getting the game seven. They still needed some juice.
(03:44):
I don't think Adam Silver is going to be too
mad on this one for one of the random occurrences
of because you would have been just as mad about
the Lakers sale going down last week. Right, Yeah, but
I mean certain business things, I kind of understand this was, Hey,
you could have waited a day, you could it could
announce this Monday morning, right, they could announce it today.
Hey day after the final. Hey, we traded Kevin Durant,
(04:04):
Like that's the whole thing. Nobody likes it. Wait don't,
We don't do it. We want the game to be
the spotlight and be the big event.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
No, no, no, here's what's gonna happen. Now.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
The trade as kind of an appetizer and then you realize, oh,
it's just as big as.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
The NBA Finals. Wow, So where is that?
Speaker 1 (04:20):
Well, it did get people fired up on all sides,
and I guess that's the point, right if they added
a little bit of extra juice because now you're tuning
in also for the commentary of what people think about
the trade or whether they're mad. Then it got because,
let's face it, you got some of the commentators who
have no problem speaking their mind. This is where you
(04:40):
needed that zoom room with Barkley and Shack and company
just sitting there waiting to pounce on this. So the
Kevin Durant trade goes down and you have I have
two big thoughts on the Durant trade. First one is
the Rockets gave up way too much to get him,
way too much to get I mean, I get that
it's Kevin Durant, but you can't just look and say,
(05:02):
we're getting Kevin Durant and didn't have this vision in
your head that you're getting a twenty six year old
Kevin Durant. You're getting a thirty seven year old KD
who gets his points. Right, We'll get to KD in
a second. You're getting a score. You're getting Kevin Durant.
You've given up your leading scorer, right, and another great
piece of the team that that is a big as
(05:24):
a big deal, right. Jalen Green is a stud. He
is an ascending leading scorer who had had a career
high in threes. He's twenty three years old. This kid
is terrific. This is a guy you had to give up.
And Dylan Brooks, who is of that Desmond Bane mold
of Hey, he's a great piece on defense, he's got attitude,
he will also hit his threes. And no, by the way,
(05:46):
here's a tenth overall pick and then a bunch of
drafts like you gave a what team was giving up
more than that for Kevin Durant. I mean, really, again,
it's Kevin Durant, who is a mid to late thirties guy,
and I get that he kind of seamlessly. He fits
in because you need a guy to be to be,
to be someone you can go to at the end
of games. But you gave up your your top scorer,
who's twe I mean that should have been that's way
(06:08):
too much, all right. If you just said okay, Jalen Green,
I say, oh no, no, that's that's too much. Man,
can't do that. You got to give up some ancillary
pieces here and you got to keep your core instead.
You decided, hey, we have enough pieces. I get you
have some good players. Yo Shangun is really good and
Fred van Vliet is incredibly solid. Look, I like I
like you, I like Houston how they built their team.
But you're giving away a twenty three year old stud
(06:30):
and you're giving away a really good role player who's
still in his in his in his mid to late twenties,
and the tenth overall. But it's way too much.
Speaker 3 (06:38):
I think every.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
Every NBA team is just sitting around right now looking
at that, going oof, all right, Glad we backed out
of that. Glad we didn't get involved in this, because
that was just way too much. I really want to
know what the second best offer was, because I can't
believe it was anything close to this the Rockets. I mean, yes,
you want to add Kevin Durant. You don't want to
give away part of your championship win, do and you
gave Way two starters and good, good clue Again, j
(07:00):
Green is terrific. I don't get that you you had
to give this much up for Kevin Durant.
Speaker 3 (07:06):
And you still did it. Phoenix was desperate. They were
desperate to get rid of Kevin Durant.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
Right.
Speaker 3 (07:11):
Mark Stein joined us last week and.
Speaker 1 (07:13):
Said, hey, they so want to make this trade before
the draft. You could have waited them out when they
wanted to make the shrift, but apparently the Rockets were
just so incredibly desperate. This is the trade we're gonna make.
They give up way too much for Kevin. Yeah, we
talked a lot about the I mean, we use it
all the time on the show Distress Properties, right, not
to you want to be a ghoul, But where's your
(07:34):
best opportunity? Something bad has happened in a marketplace that
allows you to come in, usually referred to in.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
The housing market.
Speaker 1 (07:42):
Oh, there's a divorce, there's a loss of job, there's
a death in the family, all these negative things. But
it creates a window whereby suddenly a property becomes available,
maybe at a lower price because there is a need
to move it. Here I get the draft is Wednesday,
And in the end, Jalen Green was a guy his
name that they didn't want to keep him around for
(08:03):
a long time, right, whatever his scoring acumen is first
through third quarter, getting better as a three point shooter,
at the end of game situations, problematic defense at times,
lost all of that you want and you've already paid
what Kevin Durant for the end of game that but
you still need you still see the rest of the game. No,
But but that's the thing, though, is that you know
(08:24):
it goes back to it and I liking it to
the trade when de Aaron Fox goes to San Antonio,
one of the teams that was also rumored to potentially
be in the mix, but they evidently thought they could
get cajole them for the number two pick, which really
didn't make a whole hell of a lot of sense.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
But remember when dearon Fox got.
Speaker 1 (08:42):
Dealt, we looked around and goes, well, they didn't really
have to give up a whole lot to get him, right,
They kept all of their pieces, their top picks all
of that and here like here's here's a bunch of
second round picks. Who cares number ten pick outside of
Cooper Flag? Has anybody really captivated anybody? But the asset
of a top ten pick means you're getting I get
(09:04):
it when you look at that, you know, the the
chart value of what you gave up for. I mean,
I want to see one of our I want to
see one of those NFL chart values of him.
Speaker 3 (09:14):
This is what we have here, but look at apply it.
Speaker 1 (09:17):
You know, we need you know, we need like like
the Dynasty Football trade calculators, which are awesome, right uh,
where you type in what what a what a trade
you want to make in Dynasty and they calculate the
overall value of a player for not just this year,
but their career, and it tells you, hey, you are
trading a player with a value of seven thousand and
(09:38):
you're getting back a player of four thousand. Or you're
trading a player of four thousand, you're asking for a
players value of like nine thousand, right, like you need to.
If they did something like that, the Rockets go, oh wow,
we're getting a player of seven thousand.
Speaker 3 (09:49):
We're giving up.
Speaker 1 (09:49):
Like sixteen thousand worths of of instead of that, that's
all we're getting, is Kevin Durant like, it's it's just
way way too much for for for Katie. This is
one of those Hey it didn't work, let's make the
money work and you move on from a contract you
don't want to pay out. But this is how it
goes in the NBA, and instead it's all, no, we
got we got incredible value like this deal. This was,
this was the Rockets came to the to the Sun's
(10:13):
rescue and just said here, and the Sun said, oh
my goodness, so we can rebuild our team right now.
We rebuild our team right now, right away with all
of them. Now, the curiosity as we get towards the
new league year, what is that the sixth of July
when everything has to be finalized and we jump into
the new year, that Jalen Green may not be a
member of the Phoenix Suns by time we actually get
to that point, right because you already have Bradley Beal
(10:35):
who has famously said I'm not going anywhere. I have
a new trade now. Oh yeah, and if nothing else,
he's holding that up as a badge of honor.
Speaker 2 (10:41):
It's just me and Lebron.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
Yeah, me and Lebron, that's all. We're the only two guys.
Speaker 1 (10:45):
That have the I'm not gonna accept the trade because
I want to be able to say I still have this.
And then you've got Devin Book. They got three guys
that are kind of the same. Yeah, right, so it's
it's not gonna work. So one of those guys is like,
they're gonna beg Beal most likely too.
Speaker 3 (11:00):
We can't what do we have to do to get
you out of that not tree.
Speaker 1 (11:05):
He might still committed fire a couple of the shots
for sure.
Speaker 3 (11:08):
Feathered hair, well, he's always going to be sunburn, Roja Bell.
They have him too nice. No, that's good. He never
recovered from that inbound pass pass.
Speaker 1 (11:18):
Oh yeah, that's too bad. But all of that to say,
Jayleen Green may not be a member of the Suns
before it's done. So we might see other other pieces
and and and additions to this because the silly season
has just commenced.
Speaker 3 (11:33):
Yeah, the distressed property.
Speaker 1 (11:34):
Part of it to me was was it like five
picks plus the tenth pick. Dylan Brooks, great agitator, great protector,
all of those kind of things, and then you look
at Green, who I think for three years we've been
waiting for him to become that guy, and at times
he has. But with Houston, their big problem was they
didn't have a go to guy. We asked, you know,
(11:55):
all all of our NBA experts, who's the guy to
take the final shot? We got most staple answers as
well as a bunch of don't oh, And that's exactly
what you saw in that series right as to why
they get bounced. So you go in and whatever you're
getting out of Kevin Durant at this point, you know
what he is. He's a sharp shooter, still the best
jump shooter in the game, all of those things. You
(12:16):
have to monitor his minutes and keep him clean into
the playoffs. But you've got enough depth because that was
the bigger part, is like, all right, Dylan Brooks, older guy,
been around a minute, Okay, fine, Jalen Green, a guy
you were seemingly more than okay with getting rid of
based on having already paid him, right that you paid
him for what he was going to be, and he's
(12:36):
not there again. He's twenty three. Yeah, So you and
I like, there's that part of it. Twenty three blightly
good man. Okay, but you got to keep the rest
of your depth. I guess is what the wind part
for Houston is. And you were the number two seed
and now you have the closer on board in Theory.
In Theory, exit ab out of Fresco, Exit Swalling Dome.
(12:59):

Apple Original Films Warner Brothers Pictures f won the movie
a heart pounding Underdog story from the director of Top Gun,
Maverick f Won the movie, starring Brad Pitt. See it
on the biggest screen possible, only in theaters in Imax
this Friday, rated PG thirteen.
Speaker 3 (15:11):
Go see it. It is fun. We're in a big, fun.
Speaker 1 (15:15):
Movie run right now where we had twenty eight years
later come out this past week in which I saw.
Speaker 3 (15:20):
Which was weekly. That one, Yeah, was fun. It was
different than the first couple, which you needed. Really. It
ends so crazy and so weird.
Speaker 1 (15:28):
You're like, oh my goodness, no spoilers, and now we're
gonna have f one. And then we got in a
couple weeks after that, we got Fantastic four and Superman
and then the Jurassic Park movie. But I'm telling you
get out there and see f Won the movie.
Speaker 3 (15:41):
It is.
Speaker 1 (15:41):
It is a thrill. Ride's admit. It's Top Gun on wheels.
It's a bit of our superhero movies on the track.
Is really what we get to here, right the Underdog,
the comebacks and all the snarky one liners behind the scenes,
which was what you would expect. It's like being in
our radio booth, you and I and frostburging time. You
have no idea, what's coming out of someone's mouth, just
(16:02):
like in the movie. Yeah, I know, trying to predict
that next line of dialogue.
Speaker 3 (16:06):
No chance. Uh So, now a little bit more on
Kevin Durant before you get to Tyres Haliburton.
Speaker 1 (16:11):
Uh, Kevin Durant gets dealt to the Houston Rockets a
day ago, you know, a couple hours before the NBA Finals.
Speaker 3 (16:17):
Star Kevin Durant is.
Speaker 1 (16:18):
On stage asking a question that's great. Uh, Rockets gave
up way too much. We talked about that. Now that
being said, what's the best way?
Speaker 3 (16:28):
I guess you have to like it. I sort of
like the deal, but I only sort of like it.
Speaker 1 (16:34):
Sort of like it. You really like Jalen Green though,
Like that's that's the part that's really kind of You
give up your leading score and you give up another
really good people like Dylan Brooks is like that agitator
that's a good defender that hits threes. Like he's not
just a guy you say, like, if you're giving, I mean,
this is a trade to make the money work on,
not to say, hey we're gonna make out on the deal, like,
(16:55):
oh we got rid of a guy. We had to
get rid of we got a young star, we got
a real good role player, we got a bunch of
draft picks, we got everything, and we had to get rid.
Speaker 3 (17:03):
Of the guy. I mean, I don't I don't understand.
Speaker 1 (17:06):
It's like, hey, I really have to exell this car
by Wednesday. Really, yeah, it's a good car, but it's
got a lot of miles on it, and I'm hoping
to trade it in and I'm hoping to get you know, hey,
if you know, if they give me, like, you know,
twenty five hundred bucks, I'll be I'll be happy.
Speaker 3 (17:19):
But I really I got to do. They gotta get
a new car by Wednesday.
Speaker 1 (17:22):
And you go to the dealer. Dealer says, oh, we
love this car. Coulda give you fifteen thousand dollars exchange,
And I'm gonna give you coupons for free car washes
at this place. Right They're gonna give you a coupon
for ten free oil changes, and and oh wow, thanks,
I can't believe this is what I'm getting.
Speaker 3 (17:39):
That that was the Rocket's trade for Katie, trying to
get that extra value.
Speaker 1 (17:42):
Add no, no, by the way, yeah, by the way,
because they did that, Like we bought our car a
year and a half ago they said, hey, we have
a thing.
Speaker 3 (17:50):
We give you. Forty free car washes is what we
give you.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
A great guess what car wash company gave to us
out of business went out of business like a monthly
as you say, either out of business or you have
to drive this in like city of industry.
Speaker 3 (18:02):
It was really close.
Speaker 1 (18:03):
I'm like, oh awesome. And then we went to get
the car washed the first time. Yeah, they had closed.
Come on, man, what was there in its place? Was
it at least a McDonald's or something. Just a closed
car wash? Like not even there, not been there. We
drive by once in a while ago to have they got
that back. If they they got it back. No, See,
this is where you invest in one of the trucks
that you load up with water and you can create
your own car wash in that space boom. You can
(18:26):
probably operate for a long time before they figured out
the ruse forty free car watch like, okay, that's perfect,
We're gonna are the car wash to h it's awesome.
Speaker 3 (18:33):
No, no, oh, they're out of bed.
Speaker 1 (18:35):
Part of me felt like that, hey throw it in,
because if we know they're going out, they have an
agreement with them. Here's free car washes. We know they're
going out of business, it doesn't matter.
Speaker 3 (18:44):
Throw them in there.
Speaker 1 (18:44):
Well, that was always the worst the end of school year,
things like hey, here's you know, the free meal. You know, hey,
great and great, here's your straight A's. Like my kids
would get the Hey, go over to the uh, you know,
Rita's Italian Italian ice and you know, all all that,
the soft serve and it went out of business, Like, hey,
this doesn't work anymore. Can I have something else? Nowney,
(19:05):
what can I exchange this for? I got nothing? You
got forty three car washed?
Speaker 3 (19:08):
It's good on you. You know, forty went down to
zero really fast.
Speaker 1 (19:12):
Yeah, you know, depreciation once you drove it off the
lot really hit in a big way.
Speaker 3 (19:17):
But the thing about this KD trade, right, why I
just kind of sort of like it. Right?
Speaker 1 (19:21):
Do they have a guy now they can go to
at the end of games? Yeah, because that was a
big thing for the Rockets. He's not having a guy
like who's who's going to be their guy? They go to, well,
all right, we need that guy. Was so they did that, right, Why?
I sort of like it. But Kevin Durant is a
guy honestly at this point, in his career. He gets
his right, that's what he does. He gets his staff.
But that's the thing, points is how much of that
(19:42):
is different from what you had in the twenty three
year old right? If he gets it, he gets his
points and and and said, yeah, but it's Kevin Durant.
Speaker 3 (19:48):
Make suaw Okay.
Speaker 1 (19:49):
You know who else thought they were Kevin Durant away
from winning a championship. The Brooklyn Nets and the and
the Phoenix Suns. And this is when they had him,
you know, younger, when he.
Speaker 3 (19:58):
Was coming back. You know, he's still in his early third.
Speaker 1 (20:00):
Both those teams thought Kevin Durant was gonna lead them
to somewhere, and he led them nowhere. Well, you know what,
no way to why he didn't lead him anywhere because
his shoe was too damn big.
Speaker 3 (20:08):
If his shoe wasn't too damn big and he hits
that shot, boom, all of us the NBA world changes
as we know it.
Speaker 1 (20:15):
If if Kevin Durant was still really that good, other
teams would have jockeyed him. Other teams that are more
championship ready would have jockeyed in and spent money to
get him. But instead it was a very small mark.
He didn't hear a lot of teams want to talk
to him. Normally you would hear that. You would hear, oh,
here's an offer for this team, and offer this. But
it was still was the Rockets is trade and it happened.
Speaker 3 (20:35):
I mean it.
Speaker 1 (20:36):
The Nets thought Kevin Durant's gonna lead us to a title. Okay,
well that didn't happen. All right, well, all right, well
we went through. But he had great players around Well
that's just k that's the thing. Though, great players around him.
Speaker 3 (20:45):
It did work. But same thing in Phoenix, they had
great players around him. Didn't work.
Speaker 1 (20:48):
Now suddenly, oh it's gonna work in Houston. Yeah, sorry,
KD gets his points. Okay, that's what he does. Is
he gonna make you a championship team?
Speaker 2 (20:56):
No?
Speaker 1 (20:56):
Will they win some more games at the end, because
KD will make some shots y end theory, as long
as he's still Kevin durantu is again getting to his
late thirties. That's why I only sort of like the
other store because I love KD is still a terrific scorer.
But this team fitting in right here. He's not gonna
lead you anywhere, and you've brought him in to be
the missing piece. If you brought him in and he
was gonna be like your third guy and say hey,
(21:18):
like if the Lakers brought him in and say, hey, okay,
you know what, it's Luca and it's Lebron and we
have kd Okay, well that that can be down with,
because all right, well Kad now is gonna be able to
pick his spots. You're not relying on him as much.
You still have other big scores, and he can pick
when he gets hot. He gets hot on like any
other player in the NBA. But you brought him in.
Now he's the missing piece. He's the guy we're gonna
go to it. And again, he's not led his last
(21:40):
couple of teams anywhere. What makes you think this is
gonna be different. He's not let anybody anywhere in six years,
six years it's been Mike. So now this is not
suddenly just gonna happen in Houston six years. It's like
we're talking about those ratings, hi sense, Hey, all those
years ago. Yeah, So Green goes out twenty one game,
Shanngoon sticks around, he's at nineteen one. Couple of guys fourteen,
(22:00):
you got an ascending Amen Thompson, and this is where
you get into the devil. You know, the details. The
devil's in the details of the deal. Of the guys
you got to keep is that you do have a
number of other young players that are in their second
third year to rise up, and then veterans like Van
Vliet still hanging around. That you also resigned your coach
(22:24):
to a long term deal, so you've got him around,
so it runs through him. And for Kevin Durant, well,
they tried the star building in Brooklyn and that didn't work.
They tried the star laden build in Phoenix and obviously
that didn't work. Whatever you believe about that back and
forth we talked about at the end of last week
with DeMarcus Cousins claiming they were having a bunch of
(22:46):
fistfights and then Durant's like, that didn't happen, brother, what
are you talking about?
Speaker 3 (22:50):
And he goes, my source is one of your teammates.
Speaker 1 (22:53):
So you know that's neither here nor there, but swirling
in the backdrop of all that. You know, now you
go to a squad that's built for team all right,
it's not star Leyton, you are the one star. You're
also in the Shacknas or a big leprechaun version of
Kevin Durant. Of how many jerseys has he got now?
(23:15):
I think someone said he's got the full rainbow, depending
on which jersey he's wearing over the course of his
time in the NBA. But you bring him in the
opportunity they are the fourth favorite to win the NBA
title right now, and he gets to, you know, reignite
any hatred he may have, Layton hatred with okay s
(23:37):
as soon as he misses a shot. Mister unreliable becomes
the backdrop. But the Thunder at plus two twenty, Calves
at plus seven hundred, Knicks at plus seven fifty even
with no coach, and the Rockets at plus eight fifty.
And then there's a gap before you get to the
Pacers and Tea Wolves Pacers that.
Speaker 3 (23:53):
Hang an asterisk on that because there will be no Haliburton.
Speaker 1 (23:57):
Now speaking of that, all right, So Halliburton gets hurt,
and it was a shocker last night. We see him
crumple in early in the first half of the game,
and now he's out for maybe all of next year.
It was really tough, and right away when I said it,
I thought back to our conversation at the end of
last week, which was, Okay, one of two things is
(24:19):
happening here. Either Halliburton's injury is being completely overstated because
of his confidence level coming off a bad Game five,
or if he's if he is this hurt, the question
is going to be how does he get back on
the court. Right, So, going by the facts as to
what we knew of them going last week. Okay, So
(24:40):
Game five is one of the worst games of his career,
one of the worst games anybody's had in the finals,
and it comes out, Yeah, he's got a strained CAF. Okay,
still played thirty four minutes in game five, second most
minutes of anybody. He was examined during the game after
he left after his slipped, was allowed to come back
into play. Okay, then we get the story comes out
full bore. Mri is You're gonna be re examined and
(25:02):
we'll see what a status is for game six. M
Ari apparently comes back clean and he's allowed to play
in Game six, and he plays terrific in Game six
and they blow out the thunder Get ready for game seven.
Halliburn's doing interviews. It's our time. It's all this stuff, okay,
joking about watching Love Island with his girlfriend and her
helping with the treatments.
Speaker 3 (25:21):
Did say that his calf was sore, right, did admit
to that part.
Speaker 1 (25:24):
And again not that I not that I was thinking
he was making it up, but obviously I thought, well,
are they really over selling it for, you.
Speaker 3 (25:31):
Know, to try to make an excuse me.
Speaker 1 (25:32):
I'm saying it was a multi week injury regular season,
which multi right, so it's like, okay, so all right,
but I said, I can't believe it's that bad an
injury because he wouldn't be allowed on the court if
it was that bad. So now all of a sudden,
Sunday comes up and his achilles blows and he's out
now for whoever, however long, and I go back to Okay,
(25:53):
now I'm back to the beginning. I said, forget about
the whole, you know, the injury being overblown, and now
it's okay. All the stuff we have gotten throughout the
the last few days of the Finals has been here's
how we've looked at him, here's how he's been evaluated,
and still full minutes in Game five, full minutes in
Game six, out there for Game seven. MRI comes back clean,
he is evaluated by the medical team in Indiana and
(26:17):
he's okay to play. And now I come back to
how was he on the court at that point, then, like,
what was he looked at? You can't tell me he
got all of this looked at here after game five
before he said, and yet go out and play, Go
out and play, go out and play. And I get that,
he says, Hey, if anything I can, if I can walk,
I'm going out there to play.
Speaker 3 (26:35):
I get it.
Speaker 1 (26:35):
But like there so there was no inclination that it
was that it was this bad, because again I'm going
by what we were told in the facts of what
we saw, and this was full minutes in game five,
full minutes in game six, and MRI is cleaned all
of this and examined and looked at. However many times
he needs to be going into going into game seven,
and still this happens. Now I come away from, hey, okay,
(26:59):
this is being overblown, because again, what did I say?
What did I say? There's no way medically they're blowing this,
and and he's out there when he shouldn't be safe.
A medical team is a team is not going to
do that. But now I want to go back and
look and say, okay, what we're all the what were
all the h the examinations, what were all these findings
really that show yes, he could have all these full
(27:20):
minutes and again everything in game six and especially coming
back in game five after he slipping fellon you're getting
blown out. Hey, okay, maybe we don't need you the
rest of this game. Will come back in game six
and try to figure it out like really that That's
what doesn't make sense to me now is all of
these full minutes, full workload, and the examinations and the MRI,
and still this is what happened. Yeah, you get down
(27:41):
to it, and you know, I saw a number of
the the tweets and discussions that were going on for
all you that said he wasn't really hurt. It's like no, no, no,
the conversation wasn't you know, how is he hurt?
Speaker 3 (27:52):
It's you know, how severe? Is it?
Speaker 1 (27:54):
Right? Is it being overblown in that regard to your
point thirty four minutes in game five? Come back in
a blowout scenario in game six. Fortunately you only needed
to play half the game because Oklahoma City, as I
discussed on Friday and again yesterday with Dan I was incensed.
You got a close out opportunity, and once the lid
(28:15):
went on the basket for five minutes, he said, that's
not our night and started playing some really lazy basketball.
Still the champs, you move on. But then Haliburton comes
out hits a couple of big shots. Going back to
Game six, he's flying around right, diving for balls out
of bounds, keeping plays alive. One of the the highlights
will be forever the pass he made off of the
(28:35):
save that led the Siakam dunk, all of those things,
but it now becomes the all right, what.
Speaker 3 (28:41):
Was the likelihood?
Speaker 1 (28:43):
And this is something we talk about all the time
of was it going to pop? And was it inevitable?
So it was let me test fate as long as
I can, since we've made it to the finals, and
see how many minutes I can give and maybe I
can get through to where we're now in the offseason,
rest and he have and whatever to get there.
Speaker 3 (29:02):
I don't know what.
Speaker 1 (29:03):
You're playing the percentages right as to how severe that
calf strain was, what was on the MRI. What is
clean mean something like is that you can put that
blanket on you know it's a bigger blanket, so you're
actually covered in a lot of ways because it doesn't
show obvious rips. I don't know what what that from
a medical standpoint. You know, we try to play doctors,
(29:25):
lawyers and everything on the radio, but that's where the
gray is in this of you know, if he was
just going to give it the try, since he could walk,
as he said, he was going to try to play
and try to gut through it, somewhere in the truth
lies and in the end he's got a torn achilles
and he begins the long rehab process. Whatever was gone
(29:47):
on in the background, I would like to think that
the NBA at least goes in and asks a couple
of questions, or the players Union for that matter. That
and don't wear number zero because yeah, playoffs were not
kind to you. If you more than number zero, you
had a zero playoffs. If that that is right, nicely done.

Speaker 4 (30:57):
If there's a squirrel that crosses the field or a
mascot coming, you got some rallying point. That's what's needed
at this point. Yes, the Mets have lost nine of ten,
We'll get to that in a moment. But in the NBA, yes,
Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton tonight has had his surgery for
the torn achilles from last night, he could miss next season.
Haliburton in the past hour tweeted, honestly right now torn

achilles and all I don't regret it. I do it
again and again after that to fight for this city

story from the director of Top Gun, Maverick. F won
the movie starring Brad Pitt. See it on the biggest
screen possible, only in theaters in Imax this Friday, rated
PG thirty. Wait a second, did you say Brad Pitt?
I said, Brad Pitt is in this movie and he
is spectacular.
Speaker 3 (35:01):
I'm going to see it. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (35:04):
Before we get to the news involving What's gonna happen now?
As a result of the NBA of Tyre's Halliburton, we
have a trade to announce. ESPN Shamsterrani reporting this a
few moments ago. The Celtics are trading Drew Holliday to
the Blazers in exchange for Anthony Simons and two second
(35:24):
round picks. So the Blazers trading away Drew Holliday to
the Blazers getting back Simons and a couple of picks.
You know, I was watching the purge last night and
I started to think about it in the context of
the NBA, knowing that the Celtics needed to shed some
salary and change some things up.
Speaker 3 (35:42):
So it begins.
Speaker 1 (35:43):
I'll tell you, man, you could look no Jason Tatum
for a while next year, depending on lot it takes.
Speaker 3 (35:47):
Him to get back.
Speaker 1 (35:48):
All of a sudden, these trades are happening. So coming
off of the Halliburton injury yesterday, right, a torn achilles
that's gonna cost him most of maybe all of next year.
And look, Achilles. You know these are injuries that sometimes
it takes players a full season to come back from
after they get hurt. Uh, this is what this is
(36:10):
gonna mean for the NBA, because now we have seen
too many times in the last few years, strain calves
turn into blown achilles, Right, Kevin Durant in the NBA finals,
Aaron Rodgers. We've seen it with other players in the
playoffs this year in your NBA And now you have
Tyre's Halliburton's strain calf turned into a blown achilles. You
(36:31):
are now going to see NBA team this is now
going to become a strain calf is going to become
a long term injury. The abundance of caution, it's going
any a strained calf of any with any degree of
seriousness is going to be a six week injury.
Speaker 3 (36:47):
At least we were not gonna work. You know, it's
it's a couple week injury. Now.
Speaker 1 (36:51):
Yeah, you want to go on a month, now, we'll
see you in six weeks because it's just simply not
worth it, because we see what strained calves can turn into. Now,
not every strain calf is gonna be a blown Achilles,
but when you talk about some of these heavyweights that
have blown their achilles out after having a strained calf, it's, oh, okay,
so maybe it's not quite worth it. Maybe an extra
(37:11):
couple weeks of caution is gonna be there. And I
mean you see teams the championships and seasons are derailed
by these injuries. So now calf strain is gonna be Okay,
six weeks, that's gonna be a you're coming back. We're
gonna you're gonna you're in no basketball activity for a while.
We're gonna ramp you back up really really slow. We're
gonna cut your minutes as you get back so so
(37:31):
so your calf gets stronger. You're not gonna play tons
of It's going to be a long term preventative injury.
And that's what you're gonna see teams doing now because
you saw Halliburton, look at what it.
Speaker 3 (37:40):
Did for them.
Speaker 1 (37:41):
Right now, you're gonna go back say, well, the Pacers
just kept him out after Game five and just he
didn't go back in for the rest of that game
when they didn't need him they were getting blown out.
Maybe things would have been better, they would have come
back for game six. Maybe Game seven would have been okay.
I mean, you don't know, because it's obviously it's an injury,
but you're looking back saying, oh, we could have played it.
Speaker 3 (37:57):
We could have played a little bit differently and NBA
teams are gonna are doing it.
Speaker 1 (38:00):
They tried to run it through your different probabilities again,
like we were talking before, of you know, what was
the likelihood that it was going to snap that Halliburton decided,
whatever that risk was, he with the doctors and everything,
let's give it a go, and if it's inevitable, it's inevitable.
But certainly during the course of an NBA season would
they play one hundred and six on one hundred and
(38:21):
five games, I think respectively in the in this playoffs,
it's a lot of heavy minutes, a lot of workload,
particularly when you look at the way Halliburton handles the
ball a ton, so you got a lot of pick
and roll, a lot of bumps, a lot of plays
along the way that you saw how they tried to
hide that as best they could. Going back to Game
five that now in the eighty two game season, you
(38:43):
don't like load management, Well, now it's going to be
the how injured is a guy questioned on a whole
other level. Remember baseball had their issue years ago where
it just seemed every other day somebody had a torn
labram that became the injury. We learned about and now
it became the ucl UH and how you manage pitching
staffs and and starters and and innings and all of
(39:06):
those things. Workloads have changed, and we can say to
the detriment of the game in terms of being stronger,
our guys being babied whatever. For the NBA, they've got
to look at this seriously as well, when you talk
about the star power that's been lost on the court,
trying to gut through whatever mild strain, grade two strain,
whatever it may be, as opposed to all right, you
(39:28):
miss a month of the regular season, but you're back
for the playoffs. Is where you get the two season
in one kind of thing. For the NBA becomes the handwringing.
Speaker 3 (39:37):
Operation as well, what do we do? What do we
got eighty two games here? We got potentially how many
months of playing And.
Speaker 1 (39:45):
It's a bigger conversation we have, which we're gonna have
in a few minutes on this topic. But just to
understand that there's certain injuries now that when you see
a teams are gonna say, okay, this is now how
we're blanketly going to treat this well. And because the
because because the the the bad is just too bad.
The risk is not worth it at all because you're
talking them again. It's gonna be a season and maybe
(40:05):
into another season, just because it takes players that long.
It's not you know, it used to be, Hey, we
have a torn acl. It takes you no Now the
way medicine has come back, you come back from a
torn ACL. You get back to that level of play
pretty fast now that but the torn achilles is still Hey,
it may be a full year after it until you
come back and see what kind of well. The other
is the way roster constructions change. Based on the rules
(40:26):
and the second Apron and all these financial pieces.
Speaker 3 (40:29):
That have been put in by the NBA.
Speaker 1 (40:31):
You're building rosters differently, which is how we got to
this NBA Finals, to where if a guy needs to
sit for five weeks, you might not have the same
disastrous consequence to the standings as you would in years
past because you weren't so star Layden in twenty twenty
five exit out bout a Fresca Exit, Swollen dome coming
up next. What this means even further for the NBA.
(40:53):
Plus Tyrese Halliburton has just put out a huge statement
in regards to his injury literally love moron. This coming
up next right here, Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio,
