(00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Still no norco open.
Timmy Trumpet played live tonight, put his life in danger.
Go down to City Field again. Still act like like
your name's on the show or something. I mean, I mean,
you know, come on, man, I'll just add it to
(00:47):
the lists. Yeah, that the air here. I don't have
that had to do with anything. Keep going. Happy to
Grand Day and uh happy Kershaw Eve. I guess we
can do that. That's fine, that's fair, that's fair. The
excitement of the return of the King. Yeah, well yeah,
(01:09):
because the grand pitched tonight and then we have the
other guy pitching tomorrow. The other guy, you like, I
made him the other guy. I made Kershaw come and
kick your ass. He's the other guy. Oh what you go?
What's you gonna do? Challenge me? To ping pong. Oh oh,
I'm scared, Mike. You with a ninety five and the
(01:30):
halfway across a parking lot that check and hit him.
He'll make you call him paddle Daddy. Hey, now I
thought that's his new nickname. Anyway, he paddles the Mets tomorrow. Yeah, okay,
well you put that on the back of a sequined
robe and walk to the mound in that. Now that
(01:50):
would be next level stuff. What was it? What was
a sponsor that PAULI had for Rocky and uh, that
was on the back of the robe, right, didn't he
have it? He had the sponsor for under a bail bonds?
You know that was that was Bad News Bears was
a sponsor that dude, I got money. I got five
you got like five hundred bucks for it or something
like that. I got five hundred bucks for that rock
(02:12):
because I put the name them. Well, you know you
you take every every time you can't get in there.
And oh yeah, it was Shamrock meets sham Rock Meats.
That's what that's you know what you could buy the
buy it as a Halloween cost. I have to do,
uh the Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike
(02:34):
harmon live from the Fox Sports Radio studios. We could
talk about how complicated other banks make it to redeem
credit card rewards, or we could talk about how with
Discovery you can redeem your rewards for cashing any amount
at any time. I mean, talk about amazing learn more
at discovered dot com slash redeem rewards terms they do apply.
It's not just the Mets who are amazing. Um. We
(02:58):
talked a few minutes ago about how the old preseason
has now gone. I kind of missed the old preseasons
where you had stars playing, But now in full effect
are the betting lines coming out for Week one of
the NFL. And it was led off today by the
fact that Miami has been installed as a favorite over
(03:20):
the New England Patriots. Why you would think, well, of course,
Miami's got a lot of good players and Patriots don't. Okay,
I kind of get that the Dolphins at home are
a three point favorite over the Patriots. Here's the thing.
This is the first time Miami has been favored in
a game over the Patriots since they have not been
(03:41):
favored in a game in nine years. I got a
feeling a lot of this is going to change. This here. Hey,
guess who's favorite over the Patriots. Hey, the Jets are
actually favorite over the Patriots. Okay, okay, now now you're
getting over your getting I mean, even if Flacco is elite,
m I mean, you cut your quarterback. I'm still drunk
(04:02):
on Narco power. I'm just I'm sorry. You're right, I
did go a little bit. Yeah, now you're just kind
of throwing words together. He wasn't even plugged in. Man,
doesn't matter, man, I don't care. Timmy Trumpet could have
been faking it. I don't care, man, because the final
score was two to one. Timmy Trumpet played and it
was great. You know what, It's okay, ip, he fakes it.
(04:25):
If everybody walks away feeling like they were satisfied, that's true.
That's true. Hey was I okay? Well, you know, and
that was the whole thing with um uh to say this.
There's no proof for evidence. Frostburg is just making fun,
fake people playing all right. There's no time about that.
You know. I remember when the whole Milli Vanilli thing
(04:45):
broke when they were caught limp sinking that the concert
they got caught it was in Bristol, Connecticut. Actually, uh,
they got caught lip sinking and nobody cared, like nobody cared,
Like the fans didn't care because they were having fun
at the concert, and no one cared. But became this
whole big story. Oh their lips sinking. And now suddenly
like think about how I mean think about that, how
how that would be now as a controversy, right if
(05:07):
they were lips sinking? Oh like really, oh my god.
But it was the biggest story in Milli Vanilli lost
their careers for But the fans didn't care if they
were happy they were in a concert. We're having fun.
I don't care if timmy trumpet is playing it or
if I'm playing it, because like, I could play that
solo if he gave me about two weeks to relearn
the trumpet, because I played the trumpet all through middle
school and I was pretty good. I was second trumpet.
I two weeks Rosberg. Yes, I killed the solo on
(05:30):
Hart the Harold Angels singing the seventh and eighth grade concerts.
I killed it. That was mine, that was mine. I
killed that solo. So yeah, I I well, I gotta
get a trumpet. I have to go get a trumpet.
Trumpets are pretty expensive. Can we can we uh? Can
we um the band? Can we expense that? Can we
can we expense trumpet? You get me a trumpet, will
expense it, turn it into our bosses. All right, very good?
(05:51):
Get me a wait a minute, I got nine years
of receipts I want to start putting in if you're
gonna buy a damn trumpet. Yeah, well I listen, Well listen,
we did have that money earmarked for your new tooth.
But now that you're supposedly getting your new tooth, we
can do it for the trumpet. Now take one for
the team, Mike. I'm just gonna gonna let that pass
(06:12):
by and move forward knowing that there are are much
bigger conversations to be had that will not be done
on the airwaves. All right, So so back to this.
Like the lines for the games that have come out today,
there are some that are pretty astonishing. And the first one, Yeah,
(06:32):
is Miami being favorite over the Patriots. They are playing
at home, the Dolphins have a better roster. Yeah, they've
usually played the Patriots, even with Tom Brady well in Miami. Yeah,
they always have, right, and and for all the attention
on the offense this year, Miami's defense is pretty good,
Like they played really well the back half of last year.
(06:52):
And and I also feel a little bit better about
Tuah and Tyree Kill a little bit after after watching
a little bit more of their connections this past weekend,
Because if you look, two was never gonna throw the
ball where Tyreek Kill can catch it and stride and
run for a touchdown. Right, That's just not gonna happen.
But the one thing Tyree Killed does better than any
(07:14):
quarterback in the BET at any wide receiver in the NFL,
and maybe better than anyone that I've seen, is adjust
to the football in flight. You hsul do that really well,
Mike Wallace. Like, that's why Mike Wallace is a great receiver.
He could adjust to the football in flight so well,
and a broken play he would catch and go and
and and turn a bad play into a touchdown. Right
with with the Steelers in Roethlisberger. But that's what Tyreek
(07:35):
Kill does when the ball is in flight. He breaks
to it and gets to the spot where the ball
is Because he's so fast, you don't need to throw
it near him. You can throw it halfway across the field.
Tyreek Kill will see it. Get a break on it,
he'll be way ahead of the defensive backs and he'll
make a catch. He made a catch this past weekend
where he was being covered somewhat tightly by by two players,
(07:58):
and to a just threw the ball like fifteen feet
or or like ten or fifteen yards to his right.
And because he picked up the ball ahead of everybody else,
he just cut in made the play and and and
caught the past for forty five yards right. So I
feel a little bit better that if two was gonna say, well,
I'm not gonna throw the ball in traffic, I when
if you can see the ball, I'll throw the ball
(08:20):
twenty yards to the right or to the left, and
you just run and go get it because you're looking
for the ball and you're adjusting in flight. So I
feel a little bit better about the Dolphins and a
little bit better about their connection, because if that's the
way they do it, it's a whole it's a whole
theory of throwing the back shoulder fade the way some
quarterbacks do. When you have that relationship with your wide receiver. Hey,
I can throw the back shoulder fade, you know, to
look back. I can stop back and get it. Tyreek
(08:41):
Hill can just go get anything. You know, you throw
the ball wherever I can get across the field and
get there really fast to get the ball. So I
feel a little bit better than than than I did before.
But yeah, I'm a hundred percent on board with Miami.
I will absolutely take Miami in this game over. New
England's pretty excited to watch some of the rollout plays
that that they design, and you saw at all of
that in the preseason and from some of the Zapruder
(09:03):
film that we've seen throughout training camp. And then you'll
have your jail break plays where you know, he he
gets loose in the pocket and Tyreek Hill, if you
let them guys have to cover long enough. How you
watched it in the Northwestern Nebraska game. You get ten
to twelve seconds trying to cover somebody, You're you're not
(09:24):
right without pulling them to the ground. You're you're not
gonna be able to adequately defend that, and the guy's
gonna get loose. And so that's what you're expecting from
Tyreek Hill with some regularity. I think New England's defense
will be up to the task. But yeah, that that's
a very short line. M Uh. The other two games
(09:45):
that stand out to me, You're gonna love me for this, buddy. Um. No,
apparently nobody likes the Bears. Apparently nobody likes the Bears
because the forty Niners, breaking in a new quarterback who
by all reports has struggled, is somehow a touchdown favorite
over Chicago. And you know what, I see this and
I go, yeah, this is way too many points. Give
(10:07):
me the Bears Week one. Justin Fields has looked pretty
good in this new offense. He has seemed to click
to it. He had to, you know, he found he
had through three touchdowns in the first half the last game.
He has looked pretty good. I liked what I've seen
out of him. Now, does this mean the Bears are
world beaters? No, and the forty nine is have a
really good roster, but they're gonna make things so difficult
for Trey Lance, who has struggled. Uh, this is gonna
(10:29):
be one of those ugly, low scoring seventeen kind of games. Yeah,
give me the Bears getting seven on this one. I'll
take Chicago, buddy. You're welcome solid defense, Lance with the
question marks and to your point, and this is where
the door opens to make a much larger point on
the laziness and pathetic uh discourse that has been around
(10:52):
the Bears this offseason. And it's not saying that they're
gonna be an eleven and six team by any stretch,
but trying to claim that they're going to be as
bad as some of the other squads. Uh. And I'm
a fatalist. I mean, anybody that's listened to this show
for years, I expect the other shoe to drop on
me every time. And and so I watched the squad
(11:12):
and it's complete dismissiveness of guys like Darnell Mooney, guys
like David Montgomery and Khalil Herbert in the backfield. Uh,
Colt Commet who I'm not saying he's got Travis Kelsey upside,
but he did catch sixty passes last year at a
broken offense, and he'll see more red zone targets assuming
they're in the red zone. Just go on down the line. Now,
(11:35):
the offensive lines and problem the fact that they went
and added yeah, Leatherwood from the U the Raider. How
you're gonna handle that, buddy, I was waiting to see.
I know I would pick him up. I told you last,
someone pick him up. He's of course pick they'll think,
they think they can work wonders with him. Of course
they'll get him, and who knows, maybe maybe they will,
(11:55):
maybe they maybe they'll find what he can do well.
But that wasn't gonna be probably not, probably probably probably not.
But there there's a sliver of hope versus all right,
the Raiders have already bounced him around, and clearly whatever
they're trying to teach isn't taking and isn't working. But
(12:16):
he would be an interesting reclamation project in that that
short space. But there's just been a lot of national
uh noise our network, across TV radio in the ESPN,
into CBS all the way through that. I don't know
that anybody has actually watched a down of any of
the preseason, or recognized any of the changes that had
(12:39):
been made in the building with personnel, or watched a
second of justin Fields, because most of the clips saying
how bad badly the Bears are gonna play included shots
of guys that got caught, including the quarterback jackasses take
the seven? Should we should we put out that Andy
Dalton QB one sweet but legitimately but that I watched
(13:03):
so many and the Bears they're gonna struggle. I mean,
watch this play here, look at the offensive line and
look at how long the quarterback holds onto the ball.
It's like that guy's gonna be driving a bus this week.
That's not justin fields, he's not where. There is a
one on the guy's jersey, but it wasn't the only number.
It's like, what are we doing? What are we doing?
And because Darnell Mooney wasn't a first or second round pick,
(13:25):
he's gonna suck. Really, half the NFL's undrafted, your jackasses. Uh.
The last game that I see a line and I go,
you gotta be kidding me. It almost seems like it's
a sucker bet line. But Carolina at home is a
two point favorite against the Browns. Uh. You know that's
Jacoby Brissette playing quarterback, right? You know that Christian McCaffrey
(13:48):
is healthy for this game. That's a really big deal.
This is a Panthers blowout. I can't believe it's only
a two point. If it was Carolina minus nine, I
would still say, oh yeah, they'll cover this. I mean,
give me Carolina and this one. I already got my
first three picks of the season. Ready to go. Give
me Caroline to give me the Bears, give me the Dolphins.
I'm all set. Yeah, I'm gonna go the other way
(14:08):
on this one. I'll take Cleveland's defense. Wow, look at you,
Look at you and a half. I don't know, man,
I think the Panthers might score forty in this one.
I think I think if they went forty to nothing. Yeah, Okay,
I'm okay with dude. Baker's gonna have the mom. That's
what Cynthia kind of say, kind of said, boy Twitter
(14:30):

All the talk this week has been about an absolute
icon who's going to retire? But are they really going

My Beast Friend, Mike harm And and My Dad's Best
Franchi Ohn Uh, the Yankees now trail the Angels three
too as Showyotani just took Garrett called deep a three
run homer. So now the Angels with the lead over
(16:18):
the Yankees in the sixth inning. I'm looking at my research.
The Angels can win their first game since May tonight,
Mike Harmon, this would be a big night at the Angels.
Gonna l on to this game. Kind of a big deal,
no question about it. On a big stage. And at
this point, you're you're playing to play spoiler shows, shows
show the goods for the prospective new owner of the squad. No,
(16:41):
I need to stay here and you need to raise
my my salary. But also, uh, you can screw up
the Yankees, which I think. I think it's a good. Uh.
If there's something you want to put down on your
list of what are your goals for this week? Right,
I want to get to the gym a couple of times.
I want to do this. No, I want to beat
(17:01):
the Yankees and have it screwed up when like Gunner
Henderson and the Orioles, they're sitting there and just waving
from just beyond. No, I love it. It's good theater,
Twitter and out about a fresca Mike gets swollen done.
We could talk about how complicated other banks make it
to redeem credit card rewards, or we could talk about
how with Discover you can redeem your rewards for cash
(17:23):
and any amount of any time. I mean, talk about
amazing learn more at discovered dot com slash redeem rewards
terms they do apply. You thought I was gonna say,
it's not just the Mets. You thought I was gonna
say that. Well, you know, every once in a while,
you gotta have a little variation. You gotta keep people
on their toes. So when you drop it in they
go oh, he said, the Mets. Yeah, well they becomes
a drinking game. It is all the Mets. People would
(17:44):
be be passed out listening to the show. Oh the
number of times we say the words Timmy Trumpet, forget it, ah, done,
got another? Gotten obsessive again? How to do another? The
guy that Frostberg is contending, Yeah, well that's a pop star.
That's that's out there dancing and anything in my life.
These guys listen just because, just because Mookie Betts wants
(18:08):
to kick Clayton Kersh out of the curb and get
Jacob Degroms called recruiting a Dodger. You're gonna know why. Yeah,
I think the gram is the best guy to ever
do it, which Bett said after the game today, what
about Clayton oh um, this interview is over and Walter
(18:29):
Johnson sy young Yeah, no, no, no, it's Jacob deGrom
is the best there ever was the best Martinez and
keep going. Roger Clemens coached all of those things. I'm
I'm firmly ready to. Like I said, this is my
year long goodbye to Jacob deGrom. It's really gonna give
(18:50):
him forty three million a year. I would be absolutely
fine if the Mets don't get him and he goes
to the Dodgers, because he I could see him out
here be when he goes in the Hall of Fame,
he's going is to met and see. I wouldn't have
to worry about him pitching for the Braves. So that's
what I'm most excited about. Is if he leaves, he
doesn't stay in the division. That would be the worst thing.
Is if he leaves and he actually stays in the
(19:11):
n L East. That's what I couldn't be able. That's
what I would say. Oh man, that's gonna be awful. Yeah,
but then Frostberg will start saying, hey, you know what,
it's the GRAM day and he'll have an open created
and it'll be over the top grand day with some
kind of musical interlude to follow. Uh, we'll get a
(19:32):
new song. Now here's a guy that's still pissed that
he left him in the lurch, like the young high
school lovers of OW. There's Jason Smith. Well, you want
Leonard skinnerd Simpleman, because that's the GRAM song. So if
you want that, that's the you need the song for
the open that's I think he'd leave that in New York.
Uh No, that's kind of his own personal thing. Like
it's like when they played it for him once and
(19:52):
he was like, yeah, that's kind of the whole reasoning,
like simple Man is because it's always a reminder to
keep it simple. Like he's like, you know, I I
when I think too much and due to my I
gotta remember to keep it simple. And that, you know,
the whole keep it simple stupid philosophy that that athletes have.
That's why he likes simple Man, you know, because he
he and Liam Hendricks can fight for it. Sure, Oh
come on, did Liam hend to come on. That's like
(20:14):
saying somebody else uses Narco. Come on, man, is that
with dis music? Get your own music? Beat it? Or
maybe maybe he comes here and he uses a higher
place by Tom Petty, we gotta get to a higher
place and we gotta lead by night. Maybe used the
theme song to Thomas the tank Engine there too. Therefore
(20:35):
they're six, they're eight, jumping trucks and shunting freight. Legitimately
put a million dollars in front of me and asked
me to sing that, and I wouldn't know it because
my kids never watched it. Oh No, we love Tom
Thomas was great, man, I love Thomas. I'd have a
better shot of thinking for about it for a few
minutes and coming up with anything happen to do with
Kayu Thomas. He's the cheeky one. James is vain but
(20:59):
lot of fun. Henry pulls the mail on time, Gordon
funders down the line. I didn't need a showing off
that you're still watching Thomas today. No, I just remember
because I've seen all the episodes. Hey, if we can
come back with a theme song to Miss the Island Rescue,
that would be pretty cool because that's actually no, no, no, no,
Miss the Island, Miss the Island Rescue. Here we go,
(21:22):
Here we go. They actually had like a Marvel uh
teaser at the end like this Thomas movie MS the
Island Rescue. Like when Thomas gets stuck on another island.
I know, he's a train. He gets stuck on an island,
just go with it. And he was hanging out with
the guys in the Jurassic World. You're a train. How
did you getting maroon do an island? It's tough too
A long story. I ran out of gas and when
(21:45):
I woke up next I was on this island. But
they had the bad guy right. So so the movie
ends Mr Island Rescue, and then there's a teaser at
the end of the credits setting up the villain for
the next Thomas the Tank Engine movie. I'm like, Marvel
star all this from Thomas. That's Hank Engine, it's Diesel
ten is going to be the villain in the next movie.
(22:06):
Marvel completely stole this from Thomas. Diesel Diesel Ken. So
just outside of this much smaller story still going on
in the same city of Queens Uh, next to the
Mets beating the Dodgers, tonight, Serena Williams shocking the world
(22:29):
by advancing to the third round of the US Open. Uh.
She wins in a three set thriller seven six two
six six, to defeating the second seed in at Conovite,
who was supposed to roll over Serena at this point.
And now Serena wins and moves on to the third round,
and with all the top seeds losing, hey, eventually Serena
(22:52):
is not even gonna have to take to the court.
They're just gonna handle the trophy. Serena, you won. But
let's listen to her talking after the match a little bit,
because with this being Serena's supposed retirement week, I don't
know that that's really what this is. Take a listen
of Serena being asked if she's surprised about how well
(23:13):
she's been playing and played tonight. Are you surprising yourself
with your level? No, I know, I'm just Serena, you know, honestly,
it's you know, after I lost a second tent, I thought,
oh my goodness, I gotta give my best effort because
(23:36):
this could be it, and so um really I just
wanted to just keep trying and see what I could do,
and um, just do my best. And I was just
really excited to be honest ESPN on the call. You
like how she went third person there, No, I'm just Serena.
I'm just Serena. UM. I no longer believe this is
(23:56):
going to be a retirement for her. All the language
is used in describing this week has been I'm transitioning
away from tennis to other things that are important to me.
I'm moving on. I've not used the word retire. She
was even asked more during the Encourt interview. Hey are
you ready to go? I'm in no rush here. I'm
(24:16):
loving this crowd. It's really fantastic. There's a little left
in me. And I don't know that she came to
this tournament with the idea that, hey, this is it
for me. I'm done, this is my last one. As
much as it was, boy, you know, this really could
be my last one. And I'm okay talking about it.
This might be it for me because if I go
(24:37):
in and I get drubbed again, because it's been a
year of getting drugged, right, that's what's happened. It's been
a year of getting drubbed. So if I go in
now to the US Open and I lose pretty easily. Yeah,
I think this might be it. And of course this
turned into the Serena Appreciation Tour because of the icon
and what she's meant for women's tennis and women's sports
for the past twenty five year. This is the twenty
(24:59):
five year ry that Serena Williams has but not it's
a big, big deal. But did she come in thinking
this was it? Or did she come in thinking this
might be it? And it really could be. The more
she plays and the better she plays, the more likely
she is to continue to play. And like a lot
of athletes do when they get to this point in
(25:19):
their career, some of the best ones know, they know
how to train, they know how to get themselves into shape,
so they can pick and choose when to compete in events. Right,
we talked about Brady leaving Bucks camp for two weeks. Right,
Tom Brady knows enough about his body and how to
get prepared for a season, and he knows enough about
the offense. Yeah, I can do this for two weeks.
(25:39):
Is this the best thing in the world? From No,
But does it really mean the difference between the Bucks
winning and losing? Tom Brady being gone for the eleven days.
Probably not Roger Clemens. We mentioned him a lot because
he was the first guy to do it. You know,
I still want to pitch, but I'm older now, so
I don't really want to pitch like when it's hot.
I want to pitch in September when the Pennant Race
comes out, and then I pitched in October. So what
(26:01):
did he do the last few years of his career.
He didn't sign in spring training and then he came out. Yes,
I want to picture the Yankees, and the Yankees got
him in August and September, the same thing for the Astros.
Very few athletes can do this now. Serena has seen
Hey I'm coming. She said, I'm coming into to New York.
My guns blaze, and I'm ready. I'm ready for this tournament.
So seeing this the result of Hey, I've can I've
(26:24):
come in prepared. This could be my last one. Boy,
I can still play at a high level. I can
still beat the number two player in the world and
and and beat her. Uh and you know pretty decisively, right.
I lost second set, but I dominated that third set
to win six too. Could I see myself playing in
a couple of majors a year. I can go do
(26:44):
my other things because I still love tennis, but I
can go do my other things and other things that
interest me, which is what she said going away from
and then you know what, the two months before Wimbledon,
I'm i'm I'm I'm locking into to prepare for it,
and I'm gonna play Wimbledon. I could say that I
don't know that she's retiring as much as she might
do that for Wimbledon and for the US Open. Is
(27:04):
she gonna really does she really need to go do
the Australian Open again? No? Can she take time off
after the US Open for the end of the year
and say, you know what, I'm gonna go do my
thing now and September and October, November, January, for Everruary.
But then, because I know what my body needs to
do to get ready for tennis and get ready for
big level tournaments, two months before Wimbledon, I'm gonna get
ready to go. Then I'm gonna take a break. Then
(27:25):
I'm gonna come back for the US Open and play
those two tournaments. So I don't know that Serena is
really gonna walk away after this, because she's never she's
never admitted to it or or or become a piece
of the fact that this is it for her, but
the fact that she's playing better. Maybe now there's a
new plan for Serena and she takes some time off
and hey, guess what, I'm playing Wimbledon. Oh, Serena's gonna
(27:45):
play Wimbledon. She's gonna play Wimbledon one more time. Look,
Venus Williams is forty two and still playing. Yeah, it's
still playing at a high level, still playing well, still
enjoying it. But now maybe she picks her spots and
doing it. Because if she's still playing at a high
level and she can still win, it's really hard to
walk away knowing I still have a little left. And
that's what she said after the match tonight. There's still
a little left in me. So yeah, it's hard. You
(28:06):
know when it's time to go right. Ron Darling would
always say the same thing. What Ron Darling, when did
you know that you were ready to retire? He would say,
I didn't know. The hitters told me. The hitters told
me when I when it was time for me to retire,
that I couldn't do anymore. I couldn't get anybody out.
It was time for me to walk away, and Serena
is not at that point yet when she's motivated and
can play. Yeah, but if she's someone that's gonna go
(28:28):
and play these other matches, she's gonna go to Milwaukee.
Is she gonna go play? No, she's not gonna do
these things, but a couple of times a year, I'm
gonna enter as a wild card. I don't see her retiring.
I see that being the path forward for Serena more
so than just this is it. We never see her
on the tennis court again. Yeah, going back a couple
of weeks ago when she had her first person essay
in Vogue, quote, I don't know if I'm gonna be
(28:50):
ready to win in New York, but I'm gonna try.
And you see the sly smile, uh, and the acknowledgement
of hey, you know what, I am still pretty good
at this game, right and it practices have been good
and moving forward, And she used the term evolve in
most of the speeches, and and Q and A is
(29:10):
that she's done, which an evolution, as we know, well
for those that believe in it. I got a caveat
at out Jason, because there's there's a percentage, but it
takes time, right, and whatever you're doing it, it doesn't
happen overnight. Uh, there usually is a process. So that
term is I think very specifically chosen as to say, well,
(29:33):
I'm kind of looking into this next phase, but I'm
not ready to step out entirely, right, So it's coming,
which means beewer tournaments, longer breaks, whatever the family needs,
and attending to the needs they're in and then when
the court can call and look, when you're forty two
and oh combined in the first two rounds of this
(29:54):
particular tournament, why the hell would you stop at least
showing up for this one if you still got some
of the juice and you just took down the number
two player in in the world that probably gets the
mind spinning, should come out and lost in straight set
six oh six? Oh hey, all right, maybe maybe you
just all right, that's it, thank you. You do your bow,
(30:17):
you listen to Narco next door, and you walk off
and you get you get your big celebration and everybody
gets to you know, throw the roses and it's all
finding good. But you go out and you win, the
board starts to open up with a bunch of upsets,
you win again. Never say never, right conversations we've had
(30:38):
with a lot of these veterans. We're having it with
pool Holes now. Even if he's still saying I'm done,
I'm done, I'm done. If he gets the seven hundred,
I'll believe it he doesn't. With the month plus that
he's had and free swinging and getting after it and
having fun with this squad, I think you see him again.
Likewise with Serena Williams, I'd be shocked after what we've seen.
(31:00):
We still don't see the abbreviated Tiger Woods like schedule
going forward. Twitter and how about a Fresca Mike gets
swollen done the Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmon. Quick reminder that we could talk about how
complicated other banks make it trade in credit card rewards,
or we could talk about how with Discover you can
redeem rewards for cash and any amount at any time.
(31:21):
I mean talk about amazing learn more discovered dot com
slash readeem rewards terms they do apply well right now.
To tell us what's trending in the wide world of sports.
A man who was able to cross something off his
bucket list. Today, a truck company allowed him to drive
a truck full of Alfredo sauce on the highway. Brian family,
congratulations on being able to do that. Vomit now you're
(31:43):
here tonight. Well, it happened in Memphis, and I used
to live in Memphis, so it could have been me
driving the truck. I mean, you're not far off, Jason.
You did some deductive reasoning, and why not it could
have been me, Although for me it probably would have
been a motor home. And I'm selling it if you'd
like to buy it. By the way, you have you
have a motor home? Really? Yeah, I'm thinking about maybe
(32:04):
maybe you and Mike you really own a motor home,
but hand down by the river that at bottom. Hey,
you want to come have fun at Casa Friendly. Yeah,
I'll pull up wherever I can, as long as I
can get uh, get the toilet connected, all right, I
gotta be able to empty that. Yeah, I mean just
(32:26):
once in a while, but you kind of get used
to things, if you know what I mean. But you
and Mike could go on tour like and take Fox
Sports Radio to different stops around the country. I've been
proposing that for years. That's not gonna be awkward for
your mom if Mike comes. No, not at all. We
can all be one big family and I'll share bunk beds.
(32:46):
We're gonna do a Fox Sports Radio barn storming tour.
I wouldn't preppy something, so let's keep this in mind.
I think we've got an idea that could actually happen.
You know what did happen? Serena Willie him is winning
in the second round in front of a sellout crowd
at Arthur Rash Tiger Woods. Was on hand from one
go to another watching one Williams beating a net contivate
(33:10):
the two seed and did it in three sets. And
the big difference here obviously the converting on breakpoints five
for eleven four Williams. But she won her first serves
points on her first serves and that was the difference
in the end. Going on now in the third round,
Williams is going to take on Isla Samianovich on Friday.
(33:31):
There's another big matchup happening on the men's side of
the US Open right now. That one seed, Denil Medvedev
from Russia, won the first set against Arthur render Kanesh
and now it's five all in the second set, so
things are on serve and that best of five setter.
As far as NFL stuff, we've got the Bills signing
(33:51):
former excuse me there, the Bill signing former Broncos punner
Sam Martin on a one year deal after releasing rookie
Mattaiza on allegation that he was part of a gang
rape of a seventeen year old female. The the l
A Chargers picking up running back Sony Michelle. Yeah, that's
a good move for the Charges, although they do have
a I gotta throw u c l a Brewin reference
(34:12):
and there Joshua Kelly had some nice plays in the
post of the preseason. Hopefully they'll see him in the Yeah.
How about that hurdle that went viral? You know what
also went viral? Brandon Nemo of the Mets. Yeah, he
robbed Justin Turner of a home run. As we transition
to Major League Baseball here where the Mets gotta win.
They eked it out to use a Jason Smith term
(34:34):
to one against the Dodgers, and Nemo was the star.
Abraham Torow hit a home run for the Mariners and
the end as they find a way to get the
job done, five to three against the Tigers. The Cubs
upset the Blue j seven of five as far as
multiple games in progress, who do have the Phillies just
sticking it to the Diamondbacks nine to one. Bryce Harper
(34:58):
has an RBI. The Yankees are trailing in Anaheim the
Angels three to two. Show Hey Otani went yard a
three run blast and they're about to make their way
to the top of the eighth inning. White Sox manager
Tonya Larusa will be away for the team from the
team for the foreseeable future because of a medical issue,
and bench coach Miguel Cairo will take over in substitute
(35:19):
the managerial duties while Larusa is gone. And finally, guys,
wanted to mention this to you. Sports Illustrated is reporting
the Power five Conference commissioners sent out a letter to
two U S senators asking for help and trying to
crack down on boosters who are misusing the n I
L pay system by just throwing cash straight cash at
(35:42):
recruits to try to tempt them to come to their
respective schools before I forget and get it back to
Jason Smith and Mike carmentary reminder that are discovered Card
key matchup brought to you by Discover features an oriole
four to nothing went against the Guardians. And you know,
we could talk about how complicated other banks make it
to redeem credit card or are we talk about how
it discovered you can redeem your awards for cash in
(36:03):
any amount and any time. I mean talk about amazing
learn more at discover dot com slash redeem rewards terms apply.
With that, let's get back to to motor home enthusiasts. Yes,
it's Jason Smith and Mike Carmen. Thank you very much.
Brian findily appreciated my friend. Well, hey, you gave a
big college football update right there. Coming up next, Oh,
we're never gonna get an expanded playoff that could be
(36:26):
years away. We're not gonna get um maybe not. A
new story coming up next about how college football's playoff
could see an expansion in two years. It's next, right air. Fox.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart
(36:48):
Radio app Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with
my best friend Mike Harmon. Hey, and just like the
weather in Florida. If you don't like what's going on
to college football, you've got questions. I just wait five minutes.
There's never gonna be an expansion for college football playoff.
What don't we hear? That's years and years away, No
(37:09):
expansion for years, not getting it? Maybe maybe no expansion.
Oh okay, well except now it looks like there's going
to be a late breaking report in tonight. College football
Playoffs Board of Managers are gonna hold a meeting on
Friday that could accelerate playoff expansion as early as twenty
(37:33):
twenty four. This if the eleven presidents and chancellors, who
comprised the sports most powerful group, vote to adopt this,
it would be a twelve team playoff format and the
meeting is on Friday. Sources says, quote, there's momentum. There's
definitely momentum. Yeah, so we're not saying oh, unless we
get it right. This is I mean college football. Anytime
(37:57):
something happens, I can never look at it and go
this is the death knell of college football. Or this
is a great because it changes, It changes every five
and I don't even know that we're going to ever
see U C l A and USC get to the
Big Ten. Well whatever over, something else happened in the
meantime before that happened. We're gonna really see Oklahoma get
to the s CC or is something else going to happen.
(38:20):
It's like, yeah, it's great these stories, but every five
minutes things change. There's four or five big college football
stories a year that take the direction of the sport.
And and it's like and and pull it to the right,
and then we're pulling it all the way back to
the left. I mean, what did we hear about playoff
Expand yeah, it's not happening. It's not No one's interested
in that. We're not having it. No one likes it. Okay,
(38:40):
and now here we are, Oh hey, there's momentum towards
having more teams in the playoff. Oh okay, So now
this group of presidents and chancellors again, why I always
say college football needs a commissioner, not just a bunch
of guys who want to do whatever the hell they
want to. But then again, why would you listen to me.
I can only help the sports, So why listen to that? Uh,
(39:02):
that's why this happens, Because you get these you get
this group that Hey, is this good for my school?
And is it good for my conference? Let's go do it. So, yeah,
so let's have this happen. Is it good for the
rest of college football? Probably not? But what do I care?
I don't care about that conference. Hey, I run the
Big Ten. What do I care about the Pac twelve?
They could disappear for all, they could not even be
(39:23):
playing games. I don't care. We'll take USC and I
will take U. C. L A to Fine whatever, But
I don't really care about them. That's the issue with
college football, right. Things change where where things that are
put into play may not even get here because of
of the way the wind blows in college football. I
love the idea of expanded playoff. It should have been
(39:43):
here years ago. That's why I like this story and
more stories like this just continue to happen because there's
no rules in college football, not one. Yeah. It always
comes back to at this point and the last time
they did a vote in back in February eight to three.
Guess who were the staining trio, the Big Ten, the
(40:05):
Back twelve, and then you have the A. C. C. Really,
you look at Kevin Warren and Greg Zanky as they
vote and how they decide, although Warren could be the
new commissioner from some reports of the National Football League,
not your college football's are that you're looking to have.
But the estimate is that there's another four or fifty
(40:27):
million dollars of additional profits, uh, just from those last
couple of years of these TV deals that were in place.
And as soon as you start talking about money that
to that level, yeah, everybody's ears perk up. Your points well,
taken about the changing landscape is that there's so much influx,
all the fighting over what n i L does and
(40:49):
coaches and and conferences being torn asunder that. Yeah, it's
it's all the sand. It's quicksand like you used to
see in all the movies. You can't walk anywhere. Why
might be quicksand, But it's the middle of a city street. No,
you have no idea what's under there. So yeah, now
it's the college football world. Twelve twelve teams. Do you
(41:10):
have twelve great teams? No? But you know what, we'll
all watch into mid January if that's what has to happen.
I really thought that that there were to be a
bigger my life would be impacted much more by quicksand
the sand was everywhere. Man, I was worried about that.
Oh Man, twitter at how about a FRSCA Mike get
swollen to him? Coming up next, got a big story
(41:31):
out of the NFL. Some guys just have to take
ownership of a story. This is Fox
