Speaker 2 (00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
Greetings, Welcome inside hour two The Jason Smith Show with
my best friend David Stearns, live from the Fox Sports
Radio Studios. It is an NBA E Cup night. Someone's
got to tell the Lakers wake up. The Spurs without

(00:50):
Wemby lead the Lakers right now fifty seven thirty nine
at the Crypt midway through the second quarter. Luka Doncic
has checked back in. It is still an eighteen point
lead right now for the Spurs with about five and
a half to go before halftime. Again, we're in the
final four. Yeah, after tonight, who will join the Knicks

(01:11):
and the Magic and the Thunder in the Final four?
Invase lid on the basket.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
Second quarter, the Spurs four of ten, the Lakers four
of fifteen. I gotta say Wenby just standing on the
sideline might be the most imposing figure ever. It's like
when you walk through Universal Studios Hollywood and they got
the guys on the stilts outside of the Mummy Ride.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
Uh huh, he's about that tall. Yeah, how you got
up there? Just him standing there? Crazy? Yeah, he's just
him standing there? Does that? You know? It's just a
little bit unnerving.

Speaker 3 (01:42):
I think if you're coming down the course, like out
of your peripheral vision, he's there.

Speaker 1 (01:46):
Sir, sir? Can you move please? But I'm just I know,
but you're just obnoxious standing there with that dight that
you have. Can you just move back a little bit, sir?
But I'm not doing it. Just move, just move, okay.
Do be a person that's a little favorite. Just move
a personal favor, you know, for a personal favor. You know.

(02:07):
That reminds me of a funny story. Like there was
our arch rivals in softball, the youth teams I coach,
the all star teams, and the and the tournament teams.
Our arch rivs couldn't stand him, couldn't stand playing them
because it just everything about them just rubbed me the
wrong way. And they had this coach who liked to
coach would coach third base, and he did this all

(02:29):
the and every time we played, I'd have to I'd
have to. I'd have to embarrass him and tell the
umpire because he would do this all the time. He
would coach third and he's one of those guys who
was always moving around. He was like a younger. He's
always moving around and clapping and everything. And he would
coach so far down out of the coaching box because
he wanted to get in my pitcher's eye line right

(02:50):
And I couldn't stand that. I know it, and I
and I and I said it to the to the
umpire a couple of times ago, Hey, can you make
sure he stays near his box because all he's doing
is is moving down to try to get in my
pitch eyeline. Look look at where he is. And the
guy Empire would say, okay, I'll take a look at it. No,
And the next thing he would have to say, uh no,
I didn't even went to my picture with it. I didn't.
I didn't want to put that in her head. So

(03:11):
I just like said, you know what I'm gonna I'm
gonna say, and he would say, uh, coach, you got
to move back. Okay. And finally one time I just
had it. I just had it and and and I
and I said, after the ending, I go, dude, if
you get in my picture's eyeline again, I know what
you're doing. You've been doing it for years. Stop doing it, Okay,
stay in the coaching box okay. And he was like, no, no,

(03:32):
you're talking. I know you're talking about You knew exactly
what he was doing. What do you mean I was.
I was so I couldn't stand that guy, couldn't stand him.
And when we wanted to talk to after you stopped
coaching in oh yeah, yeah, now now we're best friends. Yeah.
I didn't know the guy's name. I just know what
he liked to do. And I can still see him
just moving and clapping and moving and clapping. I was like, man,

(03:53):
what so when you tell that story about Wemby just
standing there and trying to be imposing, that's what. Yeah,
I mean, he's just there. He's kind of rocking back
and forth. All yeah. What is he seven eight? Now?

Speaker 4 (04:05):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (04:05):
Yeah? I think so. I mean he may be even taller.
I don't know. Has he been measured since he got hurt.
I don't know. Maybe he's even tall. So look, this
Michigan Sharon Moore story, it just gets nuttier and nuttier
as time goes on. Michigan surprisingly fires their head coach
earlier today. He is a suspect and alleged assault. He

(04:26):
was fired for having an inappropriate relationship with a staff member,
and then he was since detained by police in a
smaller town than the town of Sailing, Michigan, a smaller town,
and turned over to authorities in Pittsfield Township for investigation
into potential charges. Now, there's lots of stuff on the
internet about what it could be, but we know the facts.
We know. Look when TMZ's not saying it, I'm telling you, Okay,

(04:48):
we got to wait a little bit.

Speaker 3 (04:49):
Yeah, there's a lot of speculation that he uns rampant,
that has a timeline that goes back as far as
like nearly two years on some of this stuff, and
trying to corroborate what's real, what's imagined, and what's coming
from legit sources has been a difficult proposition thus far.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
Yeah, there's good and you know, one of the big
things is how old was this story? Was this known?
Was this known in November? Was this known earlier than that.
How long has this been going on? Like that? There's
lots of stuff that needs to come out that I
know in the next twenty four hours we're going to
find out and I you know, And here's here's how
fast it happens. In college football twenty twenty three, Michigan

(05:30):
wins the national championship. Right, they beat Ohio State two
years in a row. Right, they get to the College
Football Playoff semi final and they lose. They but they
beat Ohio State. The next year, they beat Ohio State again.
They get to the National Championship and they win. Right,
Michigan's a great job. It's you know, like we talked
about it when at last hour, Michigan's won the top
five jobs in college football. Right, Sharon Moore got in

(05:53):
to an incredibly fortunate situation and he blew and he
blew himself up on it. Right, So that so that's
what he did. But now you look at where Michigan
sits and on and off the field, on the field,
not even close to the team they were when they
won the national title last year. A complete mismanagement, not

(06:13):
having a quarterback ready for a team that had what
seven first round picks you had, you had great receivers,
you had great linemen, you had great players, and you
didn't go to the portal and get somebody and you
went in with just a bunch of guys. Like, that's
one of the biggest pieces of coaching malpractice I've ever seen.
Follow up the National title with Yeah, we got a
seventh year senior and a former walk on and a
gadget guy. How is that who the quarterback of Michigan

(06:36):
is following the National Championship? Like, come on, man, Like,
what the hell is wrong with you there? So since
that point, it's been a slower backing up of Michigan. Right,
they beat Ohio State last year in a real shocking game.
So hey, even though Michigan didn't have a great year,
they still beat Ohio State. There's plenty of Ohio State
fans that would trade the National championship a year ago

(06:58):
for beating Michigan. Hey, I'll lose the National title game.
It meant we could go back in time and beat Michigan.
But then this year Michigan's nine and three Bryce Underwood's
was supposed to come in. He is the highest paid
player in college football eleven million dollar nil deal, and
he was just okay, never really flash the point that
you thought, hey, he's got what it takes, he's gonna

(07:19):
be the next great quarterback and one of the next
great players in college football. Was never that guy. Michigan
simply beat the teams they were supposed to and they
lost the teams who were better than them. That's kind
of what it was. So now Michigan's kind of on
a two year sort of a downtick. But then again,
you're gonna have a down to coming off the national championship,
but on the field, a little bit of a downtick.

(07:39):
Off the field, you go from Michigan the Michigan job
being what an incredible job this is, man, Look look
at what you're coming into. And now I feel like
Michigan football is back to where it was pre twenty
twenty three, where it was look at the scandal that
we have to get out of. We need a safe
hire to be able to get us out of this.
It's like we're back in the in the late aughts

(08:02):
and early teens where we was the Brady Hoax of
the world, and you know, winning seven eight games was
going to be a big achievement for us, and we
need to go big. We need to figure out a
way around this, like Michigan. In one day, it feels
like Michigan's gone back to where they were before twenty
twenty three, where they had trouble beating Ohio State, they

(08:22):
had trouble competing nationally. They'd worry themselves again coming out
of scandal here with what went on with Harborne, now
again with Sharon Moore, Like the Michigan job went from
this is an amazing opportunity. Look at this one of
the top jobs and all of college football, top five
job too. Yeah, here they are now sitting in Ohio
State shadow and it happened like that.

Speaker 3 (08:43):
Well, but that beauty of it is that you saw.
Remember Harball, we talked about it for years. We've been
doing this show long enough to I remember when people
thought he couldn't coach and needed to be fired at Michigan,
and we had all those discussions about recognizing builds and
how long some of that takes and recognizing who you
are right in the process that those Lloyd Lloyd Carr

(09:06):
and bo Schembeckler.

Speaker 1 (09:08):
Years were long. In the rear view.

Speaker 3 (09:10):
Mirror, Shamanga Biakabatuca and all of those guys long in
the rear view mirrors, and so Harbaugh finally built it.
They got over he leaves under cover of night, and
you look to just try to fill and replenish. And look,
the beauty of where you're at it with Michigan is

(09:31):
you have all the assets you could possibly hope to
you have, as you lay it out, top five at worst,
a top ten job. You talk about the alumni base,
you talk about the money that's there to go tap
into when you're the new guy installed that. Yeah, you're

(09:52):
gonna be clamored for this. Like immediately the odds, Hey,
Caitlin de Boor's name came up, Jed Fish, you got
Joe Brady over there in Buffalo. Here's a lot of
folks raising their head. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if
Lane Kiffen didn't try to backdoor and then ponder it
along the way. But certainly desirable. Now do you have
some cleanup to do? We don't know how deep this

(10:15):
is right for lack of a better we don't have
a handle on exactly how long. Like as we talked
about to start the hour, trying to figure out the
timetable time time frame, because there's some reports saying this
was known that this was gonna happen, So they've already
done a lot of the coaching stuff. The answer is,
we just don't know, which is rare like normally, I mean,

(10:35):
there's someone that's got this, you know, like the rocks
on the yard in Shawshank. We've already got a bunch
of the pieces out there. No, no, no, this is this
is developing as we go and really just a sordid story,
at least in the initial part of it fired with cause,
and now you're trying to rebuild a program to fight

(10:56):
back against Ohio State Oregon. I mean, Ohio State's the
one that everybody focuses on, but there are a couple
other heavyweights in Conference one that's also trying to reclaim
Bass glory and figure out what they did after firing
a guy that won double digit games as the coach.
Took fifty three days to hire the next guy there.
So it's it's a strange, strange time in college football.

(11:18):
It only made sense that we'd get another chapter before
the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (11:22):
Now, who is gonna wind up being the next Michigan
head coach? Right, you can have fun with Hey, Lane
Kiffin prayed on it and I'm going to Michigan.

Speaker 3 (11:30):
Don't do the prayer thing. I mean, yeah, that's that's tough.

Speaker 1 (11:34):
Man. Why he prayed on it and he said he
had to go to an put your tone on it
is bad, but he said he prayed on it. Had
nothing to do with the money or anything. Oh, he's
prayed on it. Said to go to LSU. I mean
that this is what it was. Had prayed on it
said free to leave LSU and go to Michigan. I
gotta go do it. Uh. Yes, maybe Tom Brady would
be great, you know all these other but I'll tell

(11:54):
you seriously who it's gonna wind up being. And this
is gonna upset somebody on the show, because I'm pretty
sure frost Or you're gonna lose Jesse Mintor, your defensive coordinator. Uh.
First of all, the best part is that if he
gets the gig, now he's the head coach in the NFL,
you could make a Kevin James Sean Payton home team
style comedy and Nate Bergazzi could play Jesse Mintor because

(12:15):
he looks just like.

Speaker 4 (12:23):
Cutting out there.

Speaker 1 (12:23):
Okay, just look at it and look at Nate Berguy.
He looks just like Jesse Minta. What a great movie
would be. But this is a guy who was the
defensive coordinator for two years when they won the national
championship and then hired by the Chargers of their DC.
Look at what he's done. You know, following Harbaugh there
uh to to Los Angeles. You're gonna want somebody that

(12:49):
you can trust, that knows the current climate of the
school is a way enough from the controversy happening with
Sharon Moore to come back in, and there's a lot
of worse choices. You can have the mentor that knows
the school, knows the players has recruited there. You want
somebody to be able to come in. That's a safe

(13:10):
choice that can hit the ground running, like you can
spend time trying to get a home run higher. But
all those guys are hired now, right, You're really late
in the process. And the last thing you want to say, well,
we got an interim guy for the year, right, So
you want to go out and get somebody and maybe
they can wait till after the playoffs, after the season,
I don't know, But if you're asked to be the
head coach at University of Michigan. This is where if

(13:30):
you're mental, you kind of have to do it. The
guy's got great pedigree as a defensive coach. And again
he was there, yes, part of the scandal. Sure, I
get it, but you know, if Harba wouldn't have left,
if he didn't have to, and they'll be okay with
mentor coming back. We need somebody that is able to
have some kind of link to when we won it.
All right, we still won the national champion didn't take
it away from us. He knows everything about the school

(13:53):
and recruiting. You know, this is kind of the one
move that I say, this is the on I can
see happening over just about any other one.

Speaker 3 (14:02):
Well, I got another name I'm gonna put out there
for you because this one works, but I think I
might have one just a little bit better.

Speaker 1 (14:13):
Okay, all right, Harmon's got a little bit better And okay, okay,
I'll tell you right now. It can't be Lane Kiffin. No, no, no, no, no,
We've we've exhausted the Lane can't be. It can't be.
It can't be Aaron Glenn.

Speaker 4 (14:27):
Come on, anybody, Mike's gonna say is better than your pick.

Speaker 1 (14:31):
Oh what you say? I know you don't want to
lose your DC.

Speaker 3 (14:37):
With mid time say, he's a guy that is very
likely going to get looks at the NFL level, And
I don't know if he wants to go back and
deal with the the n I L and Booster and
whatever else. But I got an idea as we continue, So.

Speaker 1 (14:50):
We'll have that coming up next as well as we
take a look back on a big program tonight airing
and a guy that needs a little bit of do

Speaker 4 (16:40):
Jason, those are all things you use after a Jets game.

Speaker 1 (16:43):
No, no, dude, come on me. They're Mets games. Jets games.
I know what's happening now. I go, okay, hey, dud Sunday,
when it was the eight minute mark of the first quarter,
it was fourteen to nothing and the Dolphins had the football,
I said, I don't need to watch the rest of
this game. This game's over, right. I could have. Of
course it did, because I'm that I'm that guy I
watch bad football, so you don't have to. And look,
we had great points about the Dolphins because I was

(17:04):
the only one that watched that game. So I had
great points last night that we talked about because of it.
But I knew how it was gonna end. Not wasting
my energy on that. I knew how that was gonna go.
Come on, man, Syracuse had a better start against Notre
Dame than the Jets had against Miami on Sunday. And
that's saying something.

Speaker 3 (17:18):
You've run those in parallel. It's a torture torture show,
you know, kind of like the ACC network rerunning Notre
Dame Miami repeatedly.

Speaker 1 (17:29):
So before you endo a big story that's being broadcast
on TV tonight, we're talking a lot about the Seawan
Moore situation. Fired as Michigan head coach. He was found
by Michigan to be a suspect and alleged assault after
he was fired for an inappropriate relationship with a staff member.

(17:49):
Now there's lots of different things happening at this hour.
I assume by this time tomorrow we will know a
lot more details. Lots of stuff floating around the internet
right now. But a few minutes ago we started talking
about who the next head coach at Michigan might be.
I gave you Jesse Minter or Nate Pergazzi, either one.
They've never been seen in separately. Frostburt is gonna lose
his defensive coordinator. He was dere Michigan, he was the

(18:12):
DC when they won the national title. He went with
Harbaugh to the Chargers. But Harm, you got somebody too,
You think it'd be a great one.

Speaker 3 (18:19):
Yeah, I think old Bavakua could be in trouble because
there might be more chaos. How about a guy with
a contract through twenty thirty that, by my math only
accounts for maybe sixty million dollars. That's to drop in
the bucket. You got a lums that can drop that
at Michigan. I'm talking Marcus Freeman. Yeah, currently minus two
hundred to be the next head coach of your New

(18:41):
York Football Giants. But we've watched Freeman I lead the
Irish what is he? Forty three and twelve overall, had
the glorious run a year ago. He's a guy that
has been part of the politicking and lobbying for stuff.

Speaker 1 (18:58):
Alright.

Speaker 3 (18:58):
He was part of the The Today Show last week
even talking about his team and what they're doing. So
from Michigan, go swing for the fences. He's your best
guy that you can go and poach and you know,
make Bbakua have to go and cry about, you know,
the the coaching cycle and how it's all unfair and whatever.

Speaker 1 (19:21):
Yeah, yeah, but can you poach him? Like the Giants
can poach him, clearly, and the Giants I'm sure they
have the fifty million dollars for the buyout for Marcus Freeman. Yeah,
But like, is leaving Notre Dame to coach Michigan? Is
that a big step up? It's not a matter of
a big step up.

Speaker 3 (19:38):
That is a matter of a clearer path with a conference,
with the resources that they have that you know, certainly
Notre Dame does, and they've got their NBC deal and
everything else.

Speaker 1 (19:50):
But you know when.

Speaker 3 (19:52):
And again this comes out of the ad victimhood kind
of stances. With Michigan, you've got a much clearer path
as things stands. Now, does that mean that things don't
change at Notre Dame with how they operate. We already
have the may Well, you have assurances if you're in
the top twelve again that you'll you'll get in. Okay,
that's all fine and good, but Michigan rivalries the big ten.

(20:17):
I'd say you go and start fishing now, says Forever. Sure,
perhaps he's that guy, but but would I would I
rather go to the the NFL and the Giants. Maybe
maybe that's the aspiration. Never know what's on a man's heart.

Speaker 1 (20:34):
I just I feel like there's more. Even though Notre
Dame got left out of the playoff this year, there's
more in the way at Michigan because by the way,
you're trying to get by Ohio State every year. Yeah,
you're not trying to get passed Ohio State nor all this.
I get it. Who do you have to You don't
have to get past that many teams at Notre Dame.
You're Notre Dame, right, I know you got left out

(20:55):
this year and that was bad, and now whatever changes
we have, Notre Dame is not going to get left
out again because we're no Tre Dame. Yeah, I think
it's a little bit tougher. So I think it's the
path of more resistance. Actually at Michigan trying to get through. Now,
you gotta get through Indiana. You know, if you're miss
if you're gonna spend money, Hey, Kurt, Signetti's buyout is
only fifteen million dollars. Hey, Kurt, come on here, man.

(21:16):
We know we love you here. We always thought you
were great and you're doing great things at Indiana. How
would you like one hundred and fifty million dollars to
come coach at Michigan. How long are you gonna keep
that going in Indiana for? Come on, Kurt, come here.

Speaker 3 (21:29):
I just like the potential of the chaos. They Signette's
even better to google me.

Speaker 1 (21:33):
I win.

Speaker 3 (21:34):
I'd love to see contract negotiations with him. And he
just pulls up the Google page and does that little
Denzel Washington you know gesture of up there you go,
there you go, that's what you got. No, I'm just
I just throw it out as a if we're gonna
go big game hunting Mintor's a solid choice, no doubt,
and certain it's a horrible or whatever.

Speaker 1 (21:56):
Justin wants no part of it. I would just.

Speaker 3 (22:00):
Wonder if again going to the fact that he was
part of those scandals that you don't just try to
get away from that era.

Speaker 1 (22:08):
Exit out about a Fresca exit Swallen Dome, Jason Smith,
Mike Harmon live from the Fox Sports Radio studios. I
will get to watch trending coming up in a few minutes,
but you know, this is what it's been a couple
of minutes on this tonight because it's it's been a
big deal today and I know, you know, people are
starting to really talk about it on social media. The
thirty for thirty ESPN on the Life of Stuart Scott

(22:30):
is airing tonight and you probably saw a lot of
people talking about it leading up to it. Stu's life
and it looked gone way too soon, fought cancer so
bravely for so long and one of the guys that
still cuts through his career at ESPN. So many things
he's able to accomplish, and it wasn't always great, right,

(22:53):
It wasn't always rosy for him there, and he fought
against you know, a lot of things, you know, to
continue to be famous and to have career there at ESPN.
And you know a lot of people have talked about him,
and look, there certainly are people that know that knew
him a lot better than I did. You know, Rich
Eisen saying a lot of great things about him, like
they were anchors, you know together. But you know, the

(23:13):
thing is is a couple of things to just talk
about what Stu was like a little bit because I
work with him for a long time. When he first
got his big break at ESPN, when he came to
ESPN two to host Sports Night with Susie Kolber back
in the mid nineties. Right, this is when ESPN saying, hey,
we're branching out now, ESPN two is brand new. We're

(23:34):
gonna put new shows on. And they put on the
show called Sports Night, which was the flagship show of
ESPN two, which was basically, they're going to focus on
sports that don't get enough attention on ESPN. So every
show was about like, we had NHL stories, we did
any kind of college story you could possibly want that
we had. It's where the X game started, you know,

(23:55):
bike races, Formula one, Tour de France like this was
what sports Night was, and Stu Scott was the and
Stu Scott and Susie Cowber the everyday host. I worked
on the show with Stu for a long time, and
to try to tell you what he was like in
in in the in a way that maybe you haven't
heard so far, is that Stu really was a guy

(24:18):
who turns out to be ahead of his time. The
person that he was. You look at him and say, man,
he is the conduit that got people to some of
enjoy some of the careers that they have right now, right,
you go back, I go back to that line of Moneyball,
when John Henry wants to hire Billy Bean. He says, hey, Billy,
I know you're taking the teeth out there, but look,

(24:39):
the first guy through the wall always gets bloody, right,
the first guy trying to do things, it's always more
difficult than people that come after him. It turns out
to be a little bit better. And you know, Stu
comes to ESPN in the mid nineties and he you know,
all of a sudden, here's an African American sportscaster who
was anchoring one of the big shows at ESPN, and
he always knew that. He always knew that I have

(25:02):
a big responsibility and I need to be able to
make sure that I'm doing this and I'm doing this
to the best of my ability, and I'm doing it
for people that are coming after me, and I'm doing
it for everybody else, right, Like that was kind of
what he was like, and he kind of known that's
what I mean. He's like the conduit. There's so many people
that enjoying great careers today because it wasn't always easy

(25:22):
for Sue Scott. Like, yeah, he had bosses at ESPN
telling him like, I don't know what you're talking about.
I don't know what you mean. I don't know what
you're trying to say. When you say things like this,
It's like, wow, man, what the hell? Like this is
some of the stuff that he fought against. And to
tell you what it was like, tell you what he
was like, and this is someone that had this kind
of prescience in the nineties. Okay, going back to the

(25:43):
nineties now, which is thirty years ago, right, thirty years ago,
when we would do the show every day, we would
always do fun sketches on the show, right, because that
was the kind of show. It was was open to
do anything, and they love putting me on that show
because I was a lunatic. Yeah go on, yeah, you're
you're great for sports, like yeah, great, Greg, Right. So
we always would do fun teases or sketches about something

(26:04):
going on in sports, and so like was, I'd come
up with some ideas. We'd get to you know, shoot
stuff over the course of the day, and now just
to take you in because this is this is this
is part of the story. Like my job as a
production assistant associate producer was I would have like seven
or eight jobs over the course of the day to
do before we got on the air. Everybody, everybody busted
their ass to get a lot of jobs done. You

(26:25):
had a lot heaped on your plate. So when I
had to do a sketch, it was always Okay, I
need to be able. I can take an hour to
do this sketch, and then I got to be done
with it because I got to go on to other things.
So whenever we would have an idea for something and
we needed a production assistant to be in it, we
needed a security guard to be in it, or somebody else,
I would just walk and say, hey, can you be
in this for a couple of minutes we're doing a

(26:45):
sketch and they would say I really not okay, great,
and I move on to somebody else, right because I
got to get this done. So the first few skits
we do I do with stew and he says to
me after, like after like the second or third one,
he says, hey, can I talk to you about the sketch? Yeah? Sure,
what's up? He goes, man was really good and this this,
and Stu was a great dude. And he goes, I
just want to say, He goes, you know, whenever I

(27:06):
do something, when I do a sketch like this, I
always want to do something and make sure that a
black person and a woman is in the sketch because
I want a spotlight that that, you know, that they
should be sharing the camera to. And I said, wow, okay,
I said, hey, I'm with you. I get it. I said,
just from my perspective, I'm just trying to get people

(27:27):
that want to be in it right, like I can't
take time. He goes, oh, no, no, I completely get it.
I completely get it. I said, no problem, just so,
but I'll try to do that. He goes, well, what
if I help you what if I give you a
couple of people that would be, you know that I
think might be good for the sketch. I go, great,
give me those names. I'll ask him and I'll put
them in the sketch. Awesome, right, So then so the
first time he gives me, like three or four names,

(27:47):
I asked, and these are all again like PA, security guards,
the producers, everything else. And a couple of people said no.
So we do the sketch for the day. You know,
Stu doesn't see it until it goes on the air
and he goes, hey, I gotta ask it. You know,
I gave you some names. I go, Stu, I said,
I asked all of them and they said no. He
goes what I said, Stu, I asked, those are the
first four people that I asked, and they said no.

(28:09):
So I asked other people to be in the sketch.
Those are the first four people I asked for you.
He goes, oh Man, because he goes, hey, I love
who you had in. It was great. You know you
put this guy in. This is awesome. He goes, I can't.
I said, okay, I just wanted to tell you that's
what it was. So then the next day he comes in,
he goes, hey, from now on, when I give you
a name, when when I give you names of people,
he goes, you don't worry about it, they'll do it.
And I said, okay. From then on, there wasn't one

(28:33):
person who said no, well whoever. Stu talked to everybody,
and every single person I want to say, hey, well yes,
oh stud yeah, yeah, yeah, I want to be. I
want to be and I want to be in.

Speaker 3 (28:42):
Well, but how did you sell the sketch? When you
when you went now and I'm talking about your selling abilities.

Speaker 1 (28:47):
It would be it would be something like it'd be
something like, hey, we're doing a sketch. It's the anniversary
of the Vic Wurtz catch off of Willie Mays, and
we're doing a bit on how Stu is trying to
find out information and you're going to be your researcher
that doesn't know what they're doing. Yes, absolutely, hundred percent,
I'll be I'll do it, I'll do it. I'll do
it like this is kind of stuff that's fun we
would just do for like thirty forty five. So I

(29:08):
get that.

Speaker 3 (29:08):
But you know, in those pitches when folks turned you down,
did you really sell the fact that it was Stuart
Scott asking for them.

Speaker 6 (29:15):
You.

Speaker 1 (29:16):
Oh no, No. They all knew that we were doing
sketches like I. Like they knew I would come and ask, hey,
do you want to be in this? Do you want
to be in this? Okay, that's great, But now Stu
was was actually taking it upon himself to go and
ask people. They had to take. Hey, when Jason does
this and he asks you, will you be in this sketch?
And I'm telling you, I swear to God, might not
one person said no? After that? Like we would have

(29:37):
an idea and say hey, who do you think for this?
And we would say a right, try this person, this person,
this person, every single person stew said, Hey, ask these
couple of people for this sketch today, they always said yes.
Like that. That's that's That's how much he was cognizant
about what he wanted to do, the belief in what
he was doing was right, and how he felt a
responsibility that was bigger than just here I am on TV.

(30:00):
He could have just sat back and enjoyed his career
and been on TV and on ESPN and all ka.
But from the beginning he always wanted to make a
bigger difference. And maybe you know, people didn't get it
as much back then, but but like you think, that's
what you think about now, Like this is something that
happens all the time now, right, Like this happens all
the time, and this is thirty years ago, and and
Stu is trying to do this and and and that's

(30:23):
the kind of guy that he was man when he
would do that. So I hope you know, I I
haven't seen the show tonight, but I hope you get
some stuff like that because that that's kind of the
guy Stuart Scott was.

Speaker 3 (30:33):
Yeah, I certainly, you know, we know a lot of
folks in the business you worked with him personally and
hold him in the highest regard for you know, a
land a land shifting in terms of how highlight shows
were done thereafter. So, yeah, I only had the pleasure
of meeting him once. It's very brief, at a well
at a Super Bowl event. I think it lasted all

(30:54):
about two minutes and then he headed to the dance
floor and that was the end of that.

Speaker 1 (30:57):
Yeah, exit out Vala Fresca, exit swollen delb. He was
trying to I'm gonna go to the I don't want
to talk to harm anymore. I'm gonna I can't find out, man,
Let's find out what's trending right now the wide world
of sports of Martin Weiss and what do you got
for us?

Speaker 5 (31:17):
Well, first, I have a report from the Detroit News.
Sat police chief confirmed to the Detroit News earlier on
Wednesday that the Pittsfield Township Police Department was handling a
complaint that involves Charon Moore. Here's the rundown. At ten
o'clock on Wednesday, Pittsfield Township Police confirmed it handled and

(31:38):
assaw the investigation, without actually naming more. But they did
say that investigation started at four ten pm, which was
just a few minutes before the University of Michigan had
announced Sharon Moore was fired. The Pittsfield Township Police said
that the incident does not appear to be random in nature,
so they ongoing into investigation. No more further details, so

(32:00):
so forth go back to the first press con The
first statement released about Sharon Moore today was from ad
Ward Manual at the University of Michigan, saying there is
credible evidence that Moore had inappropriate relationships with a staff
member and for that reason, he is fired with calls
from the University of Michigan, Baltimore, Orioles and Pete Loondo

(32:21):
agreed to a five year deal with one hundred and
fifty five million dollars. Philip Rivers officially signed his practice
squad deal today with the Colts. Riley Leonard a full
participant in practice, and the team also activated quarterback Brett
Rippon from the practice squad. Jayde Daniels likely won't play
Week fifteen against the Giants. He's at an elbow. Raiders
quarterback Geno Smith not likely to play against the Eagle

(32:43):
Sunday with a shoulder injury, lining up Kenny Pickett to
get a revenge game start against his one of his
former teams. Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans was activated against
from ir expected to play tomorrow against tomorrow against the Falcons. Officially,
this is questionable. Drake London listed as out for the Falcons.
They have NFL solidified Week seventeen. The Texas at Chargers

(33:06):
and Ravens ad Packers game is going to be played Saturday,
December twenty seventh. NFL is taking the first round draft
to pick time between picks from ten minutes to eight
minutes in the NBA Maverick Center. Derek Lively will miss
the rest of the season. He's got to have foot
surgery and the NBA Cup quarterfinals. In the Western Conference,
the San Antonio Spurs with an eighty five to sixty

(33:28):
four lead over the Lakers. Right the Spurs, I was
scoring them at nine points in the third quarter right now,
but I'm just under nine minutes left in the third quarter.
Stefan Castle, Deer and Fox Harrison Barnes all in double figures,
the Lakers being led by Luca Dontis with twenty four points,
Lebron James and DeAndre Ayton with twelve and eleven, respectively.

(33:49):
Earlier tonight, she saw the Oklahoma City Thunder one thirty
eight to eighty nine over the Phoenix Suns. Okay see starters.
None of them played over thirty minutes. In fact, yeah,
nobody played over twenty eight minutes, with schae Gilders Alexander
had twenty eight points in twenty seven minutes and Chad
Holger with twenty four and twenty five minutes.

Speaker 1 (34:08):
So it's just quick work.

Speaker 5 (34:10):
The Thunder made of the Phoenix Suns without Devin Booker
and Grace Noll ended up getting ejected after getting his
two flavorfowls back to you guys.

Speaker 1 (34:19):
Thanks bunch, Martin Boy. We'll have more on that developing
Sharon more story coming up, but straight ahead, a couple
of quarterbacks who may or may not play Sunday. I
hope neither of them does. We'll tell you why next.

Speaker 2 (34:31):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific, Fox.

Speaker 1 (34:40):
Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmon. We'll get back into the new details and
I mean new within the last twenty five minutes in
the Sharon Moore story in Michigan. Coming up, But two
big quarterbacks looking ahead to Sunday and beyond. In the NFL,

(35:04):
Philip Rivers is in the mix to start on Sunday
against the Seahawks. Philip Rivers, who was coaching high school
football and on his couch watching the Colts game to
the Jaguars on Sunday, watch Daniel Jones's injury happen, and
he said, I admitted to myself, I wonder if Shane

(35:26):
will call. He did. Rivers worked out, and now he
may start Sunday against the Seahawks.

Speaker 4 (35:32):
Why are you laughing?

Speaker 1 (35:34):
Dude? Come on, man, this this guy. He's not been
near the NFL in five years and he's forty four
either of the Jets, and all of a sudden, the
Jets are barely in the NFL, they're barely hanging on. Oh,
he can come in and start for the Jets right away.
Are you kidding?

Speaker 3 (35:48):
Taylor with a negative performance for fantasy purposes against the
Dolphins this week?

Speaker 1 (35:52):
I mean, all of a sudden, he's gonna start. I
really want to see just what the hell the Colts
have seen to say, yeah, he's our starter. Rivers look
so much heavier than he was, and he said, what
did he say today? Yeah, I'm heavy the last time
I played, But I wasn't running away from guys back then.

Speaker 3 (36:08):
That's it man, right, I didn't even do quarterback sneaks.

Speaker 1 (36:13):
Every day this story goes on, I just feel more.
I'm more and more afraid for him coming back on
Sunday to what he's gonna see against it. If he
plays against the Seahawks. You're gonna throw him out there
against the Seahawks when he's been with the team for
all of a day and a half. Yeah, you're starting
on Sunday. We were putting you right out there.

Speaker 3 (36:33):
Keep telling you, man, well, I mean, he knows the terminology,
he knows the play sheets, doesn't really know his his teammates,
but he'll learn fast. And look, the time to release
is going. He'll be in shotguns. So it's just another
step or two back and then get rid of the
ball one.

Speaker 1 (36:50):
And two with the gone how far is that shotgun
gonna be? Like in punt formation legs it be fifteen
yards back in the line. If that's what they far
be able to with that. Yeah, this is obviously not
the team you want to uh to reintroduce yourself to
the NFL against Seattle's defense, one of the best and
for purposes of fantasy, Yeah, you want to talk about

(37:12):
a must dart situation number one with a bullet. And
that's and that's saying something because you got Houston going
up against Jacoby Brissett and Arizona. You got the Eagles
going up against Kenny Pickett for crying out loud, no
Seattle far and away.

Speaker 3 (37:28):
But I'm intrigued, I'm excited. I got my pom poms out, man,
Come on, I'm a Philip Rivers guy.

Speaker 1 (37:35):
Oh it is. It is intriguing, but it's it's also
what what are we gonna see? That's I feel like
it's not It's like I feel like I'm watching Midsummer
I'm in the middle, and I go, this is not
gonna end well for anyone. I knew it. Yeah, you
did not get it yet. I don't know that I
enjoyed it. But have you seen he's not playing for
the Chargers. Man. You don't need to You don't need

(37:57):
to carry carry the water form.

Speaker 4 (37:59):
There's no such thing. Why why can't he just go
out there and do what he plans on doing?

Speaker 3 (38:05):
Can't have some positivity? I watched that every night with
the little shop girl or the disgruntled executive trying to
find the true meaning of Christmas. Why can't we have
a little bit of that magic on Sunday.

Speaker 4 (38:17):
With you, Jason, Because that's been rolling guys out that
don't know the playbook for years.

Speaker 1 (38:24):
Yeah, and look how bad we are for you love
him so much? For what if I said, okay, you know, hey,
Herbert's going to be out and Rivers is going to
come back and play for the Chargers and.

Speaker 4 (38:31):
Has nothing to do with my love for the guy.

Speaker 1 (38:34):
No, but how would you feel how would you feel
about him coming back to the situation?

Speaker 4 (38:38):
So I don't have feelings for it?

Speaker 1 (38:39):
So wait, so wait, so you wouldn't be excited about it,
but you really just goes back option. He's their best option.
Sure that there were other thirds we talked somebody else. No,
I think the Colts have no idea what they're doing.
I think it said, Hey, I'm calling a guy that
I knew to come bail me out of a situation.
This is like one of those movies where like, hey, hey,

(39:00):
the only people I can trust to save the earth
are guys that went to college with and drank beer with,
you know thirty five years ago.

Speaker 4 (39:07):
Understands that takes notes. What do you mean they don't
know what they're doing.

Speaker 3 (39:11):
Carl Or say, Gordon has gotten a lot of good
will as this season has gone on. Yeah, no, you're
gonna say that it's absolutely been torpedoed here.

Speaker 1 (39:19):
Well, okay, both you guys think from a football standpoint,
this is the right move. I'm saying, I.

Speaker 3 (39:24):
Don't know how much from these other guys that you.

Speaker 1 (39:27):
Would know till Sundall standpoint. I I I know, I
know how bad it's gonna be. You know how bad
it's going to be. I know, I watch it. I
watch a lot of bad football. I know how bad
this is going to be, especially you're starting off against
the Sea. Good luck man on the road this one.
The Seahawks players right now are sitting here going, hey man,
let's bet how many who gets the most sacks? I
say I get four, I say I get six.

Speaker 3 (39:49):
I say I'm getting borderline bounty gate and they should
all be suspended.

Speaker 1 (39:52):
Pre it's just sacks. It's just in un said. It
says how many sacks do we get? Every huddle is
going to be whatever they call defensively beat you at
the quarter? Ready break? Why do you hate Philip Rivers?
Why do you hate fun? I would say this for
anybody that's forty four, been out of the game for
five years, for any that calls you back. Okay, all right,

(40:13):
we'll see. We'll see on Sunday. Another big quarterback story
coming up next, as well as the latest on the
Sharon War situation in Michigan. New information coming your way next.
