(00:52):
I'll tell you three or four more field goals. Rams
might win this game. There is a minute left to go.
The Rams are driving, they are inside the fifteen yard line.
They trail the Dolphins twenty three to twelve, so they
need to score end an on sidekick.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
Uh and then they.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
Could potentially go to overtime if they get the two
point conversions. I mean, we don't have the Rock and
Jock option a twelve point field goal though. So yeah,
so they're gonna need a decision soon if they want
to have time to get down the field and try
to score if they get the ball back. So uh again,
they're inside the fifteen. They need two scores. It's gonna
be a touchdown here and then an on side kick
or a field goal an on sidekick. We'll keep your
(01:31):
posts on here. It'll be a lot of craziness going
on time out on the field right now.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
Now.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
Meanwhile, looking back at yesterday, you know we started the show,
we joked around about which team was more of a
dumpster fire minor yours and yours is up your your
team is like my team is like leading the pack,
but your team is like making this huge strides.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
You know, it's like it's a closer. Everybody knows this.
Speaker 1 (01:53):
Remember in Sea Biscuit when he was I think he
was racing against uh who is the big horse racing against?
It was not man of war, but it was some
kind of mister d opened the door and said hello,
I'm mister ed.
Speaker 2 (02:09):
And the song started playing.
Speaker 1 (02:11):
Sea Biscuit became this big you know, became this big
race horse, and then I think he ran in a
race again. I want to say, I want to say
Man of War, which was a huge, unbelievably huge horse,
and the scene where they had their one on one
race where Sea Biscuit is winning and they show you
this unbelievably large horse is just bearing down on him
(02:31):
and I'm going, oh my god, this is so intense.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
This is such an incredible.
Speaker 1 (02:35):
Scene of filmmaking where this horse is just gaining and
gaining it.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
It's so much bigger than Admiral War. Admiral, Yeah, that's that.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
That's kind of in my head. But I'm like, it
wasn't that a horse recently? No, there was another one? Yeah, no,
And that that's kind of what it is like the Jets.
The Jets are are the Jets are out their Sea Biscuit. Hey,
we're out to a lead. But no, no, but you
are that big, you're war. Hey, we're coming to get you.
We're coming to get you with all these we're coming,
We're sewing. You aren't function right now. You're not going
to keep City of Chicago's the oversized heart and big shoulders.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
And here we are charging.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
Down the stretch to look at every bit the train
wreck that your Jets are. But luckily, while we will
get to the Bears, I can tell you exactly how
the rest of this train wreck craptastic season and the
rest of Aaron Rodgers' career is going to go. Could
you do it to any melody of I can show
you the world? No, the song is actually a whole
(03:32):
new world. It's a whole world. Yeah, but I wanted
you to key you up with the first line of
the song.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
Should we feed it in a no?
Speaker 1 (03:39):
No, there's no one to tell us no or where
to go, or to say we're only dreaming. It's fine,
a new, fantastic point of view. It's like a shooting star.
We've come so far.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:49):
Uh, and now Pebo Bryson and Natalie Cole a whole
new world.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
Anytime we get people rice into the show, we've won.
Speaker 4 (03:59):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
First of all, let me tell you this. The Jets
lose yesterday to the to the Cardinals, and obviously it
was it's Jets football for forty years. Wait, I thought
we're done with the Jets. They give you this is
the funeral telling you. I'm telling you what's gonna happen
for the rest of Aaron Rodgers career.
Speaker 2 (04:15):
He's gonna suck and retire. Okay, but that's that's that's
a that.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
Was really well.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
To get a little bit more colony.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
Of words, right, a little bit more detailing, it is
that look the effort yesterday. The Jets have too many
games like this right all the time where they come
up flat and they give you hope and then they
show they come up with bad performance and a lack
of effort. And that's forty years of the Jets, right,
doesn't matter if it's Jeff Ulbrick or Robert Sala, it
doesn't matter Todd Bowles, makes no difference. They give you
(04:44):
hope and then they come up with they fall short
on expectation, they fall short on effort. Again, how are
you flat when it's a must win game? And the
Cardinals looked like a team that was a varsity scrimmaging
against the jv Every play was chunk yards. Everything that
Cardinals want to do they did. They were averaging seven
yards of carry. They had twenty five plays in the
first half, twelve first downs. Right, the Jets are just abysmal. Now,
(05:07):
the two things for Aaron Rodgers, right, the micro and
the macro point. The micro point is this My biggest
fear for him is realized. He just can't go downfield anymore.
I told you the beginning this, say, what's my big thing?
Rogers can't throw downfield anymore?
Speaker 2 (05:19):
And he can't. He can't.
Speaker 1 (05:20):
The Jets didn't have one pass yesterday more than ten yards.
And you, this is Garrett Wilson, Devonte Adams Man. You're
not trying to make it work with a couple of
Jags that we don't even know with the number one
wide receivers, you're talking about two of the top receivers
in the game. You can't complete a pass downfield more
than ten yards. Their long d yack was fifteen yards. No,
I mean, I've seen enough of Aaron Rodgers to know
(05:43):
that he just can't do it. He can't throw downfield.
He is a diminished quarterback and he is now trying
to just keep it alive via magic.
Speaker 2 (05:50):
Now, maybe, and.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
I'll give a little bit potential to that, coming back
from a big injury at forty maybe he's not. Still
he's not at the overall stre that he would be
at another year from now. But then again, he'd be
forty one. But I'm willing to go down and maybe
the O'donnald's speech from Beautiful Girls, he'll be a thirty
thirty five. Then that's not ideal, but you know, God Jesus.
(06:15):
But the first thing is that he can't go downfield anymore.
And that's a big thing. And teams know we only
have to defend a certain time. They don't have to
defend more than fifteen yards. It's it's really difficult to
watch him because after after ten games, I know he
can't go downfield.
Speaker 2 (06:29):
He would have gone downfield by now if he could,
but he can't.
Speaker 1 (06:32):
Last time he went downfield was the red line, the
red line on Mike Williams come back at him on that.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
Catching that red line touchdown.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
Yet today, how about me giving you that Bowl prediction
that Mike Williams is gonna score a touchdown yesterday?
Speaker 2 (06:43):
Boom, I'm red hot.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
But so that's the first thing about Rogers. That's the
first thing about Rogers is that I told you my
biggest fear. He can't go downfield, and he can't, and
that's killing the Jets. He's got to get rid of
the ball fast.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
He can't.
Speaker 1 (06:55):
He can't buy time like he used to he's just
not the guy, and it looks like he's done. He
doesn't want to go out like this. But I'll tell
you exactly how the rest of Aaron Rodgers season end
career is going to go. And you tell me if
you disagree with me. Things are so really bad for
the Jets.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
Look at them.
Speaker 1 (07:13):
They're trying to make it, trying to make it work
right now with a defensive coordinator who's never had any
head coaching experience. The defense is terrible, the offense can't
do anything. Rogers is looking realizing what it really means
to be a quarterback in New York. Oh man, so
this is what it means like when you don't win.
This is what this is. This is miserable. At my
worst in Green Bay, it was never like this. Yeah,
welcome to New York. Now you're realizing this is what
(07:35):
it means to be a quarterback in New York when
you fail. Now the back of the back pages of
the New York Post, the Daily News, Aaron Rodgers, false savior,
all these things. Now you understand how bad it is. Right,
you'reading Now, you're on the You're on the front page.
You yeah, book ending he's getting he's he's understanding. Boy,
this is really bad. This is really really bad. So
(07:55):
what's gonna happen. He's gonna sock missed the playoffs for
the next twenty years. Uh, okay, Prossburg really is just
he's on.
Speaker 5 (08:04):
I mean, we've been telling you this ever since you
guys signed him, and you just wouldn't believe it. If
you see, you could start like, hold you everything that's
unfolded with Rogers. You could start like a new social
media and instead of Twitter, say listen, you only get
thirty characters.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
You just two.
Speaker 5 (08:21):
We were piling on the jets that you thought we
just hated your team. No, we were telling you exactly
how it went.
Speaker 2 (08:28):
No, no, you do, but you do though you do
hate my team.
Speaker 1 (08:30):
Well, it's note, but the two are not necessarily mutually.
I mean, both things can't be true. But here's what's
gonna happen. He's not gonna play the rest of the
season because this is unlike anything he's ever experienced. It's
his negative, more negative than he ever expected it to be.
He'll play a few more weeks and then some kind
(08:52):
of injury and he'll be shut down for the rest
of the season, and he's not going to play, and
it's gonna be a combination of the team rogers knowing
that this is done, and he doesn't want to hurt
whatever he could do in the future more by playing.
So what's gonna happen then is that he's gonna sit
and then in the off season he's gonna look around
(09:14):
and go, Okay, I need to get out of here.
This is awful and it's an easy out for the
Jets and him contract wise. He doesn't want to end
like this, but then again, you don't always get to
pick your ending. And if you can't throw the ball,
you can't throw the ball. But what he's gonna do
is this is he will find the right time to
go out for the Jets, where where like, hey, if
this is my last game in the NFL, this is it,
(09:36):
Like I'm gonna go out on ups. They beat the Patriot,
beat the Dolphins. In the game, he throws a couple
of touchdowns and the Jets are four and twelve, four
and eleven, whatever it is. But that's when he's gonna
be out and he's gonna have a great ending because
that's gonna be how I end. And then in the
off season, He's gonna look around and if there is
a team that feels, hey, we can make Aaron Rodgers
(09:56):
into a great we need a guy for a year
or so and what we think we can win. We're
not going to get a quarterback in that time, but
we like what Aaron Rodgers does in the offense we have.
Speaker 2 (10:08):
We can take advantage of what he can do.
Speaker 1 (10:10):
If he can't throw the ball all the way downfield,
that's okay, because that's not the offensive system we have.
We know we can make it work, and Rogers will
go there for a year. It's kind of like when
Farv went to the Jets. He really didn't want to
go there. He wanted to get to the Vikings, but
the Packers wouldn't trade him there. So he did a
year with the Jets, then retired, and then went to
the Vikings where he wanted to be and he was
there for two years. So that's kind of what Rogers
(10:31):
will do. He will then look around and say, okay,
is any team in that boat where I can come
in as a starter for a year, and then that
will be it because I don't want to end.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
I don't want to end this way.
Speaker 6 (10:41):
If I don't have to.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
And if there's a team out there that says, yes,
come in, you're our guy, he'll go. But if not,
he will retire. So you got to realize that how
many more games can we really see Aaron Rodgers play
football in the NFL. Maybe it's three or four because
the possibility exists. You get to the end and the
rest of the thirty one other NFL teams, because he's
not going back to the Packers, but thirty teams are
gonna go.
Speaker 2 (11:02):
Yeah, we're pretty good.
Speaker 1 (11:04):
Maybe there's a team, maybe there's a one team and
it's kind of like Brady alright, but we still even
though he's a little bit diminished, we can win. And
Rodgers can sell himself like I'm Brady leaving New England,
but I can't go back here because this is awful.
Speaker 3 (11:17):
Man.
Speaker 1 (11:17):
I gotta get out of this Jets. Thing is not working,
and he goes somewhere for your But if not, he retires.
That's how the rest of Aaron Rodgers year and career
is gonna go. Yeah, but that's part of the way
Aaron Rodgers ended up a Jet was the I can
go have another act. Look what Matt Stafford was able
to do getting out of Detroit and heading to the Rams.
Look what Brady had done. Brady could still throw the football.
(11:39):
Brady had personality conflict with the coach slash GM, but
there was nothing saying he was a diminished asset in
terms of playing football. Aaron Rodgers coming off an injury
and he can't get it done with superstars and they've
gone out and gotten all of his guys back to
back year. Now you could argue about the merits and
(11:59):
bringing in Lazard. He's on ir or Randall Cobb last
year do it a great job his first year as
a broadcaster, By the way, I enjoyed listening to him.
Speaker 2 (12:07):
But his hand pick guy was his OC. All of
that stuff, and he's been terrible.
Speaker 1 (12:13):
The hell team is looking around going, you know what,
let's bring that surly s ob in here.
Speaker 2 (12:18):
You never know where the coaches might wind up.
Speaker 1 (12:20):
You never know where coaches might wind up. We're in
where you're in a case. Look look look at the
look at the Bucks right, go back to win Brady.
They had Jamis Winston. Jamis Winston was a dynamic quarterback,
but boy threw too many interceptions. We need somebody to
come in here and we have a lot of good players.
We need someone to come in and lead this team,
but bring you a little bit of that ball and
can be efficient. And most of the time Rogers is
(12:41):
still efficient. He just can't push the ball, right, you're
stating it right, But he Brady couldn't throw the ball
at the end, Like how far? How far could Tom
Brady throw the football his last couple of years and not, dude,
I don't know, going lot for go, go look at
that NFC Championship game against the Packers when he couldn't
even throw the ball. Was throwing stakes further than they
(13:01):
are yesterday. But it's also not just a matter of
unkirking the deep ball. It's about timing, it's about routes
or whatever. And your guy certainly doesn't have that at
his disposal, right, But if it's an offense that, if
it's an offense like like Tua has in Miami, okay,
that might work right because he just chucks it up
then you know, and guys run under it.
Speaker 5 (13:21):
You know.
Speaker 2 (13:21):
So there's an offense, there's an offense.
Speaker 1 (13:23):
Out there that that someone can say, hey, we did
we we design it around him where we have a
really short window. We can't draft a quarterback. We let
let's go with this for a year, right, that could
absolutely happen. Well, be curious is to get him in
the honest moment because he gets He got really chirpy,
and he was okay with people not liking him for him,
But once you start breaking apart the fact that he
(13:45):
can't play football anymore psychologically, it's a whole other space
exit out about a fresco exit swalling down. The Jason
Smith Show with Mike Carmon live from the Tirech dot
Com Studios, telling you that's exactly how the rest of
Aaron Rodgers year end career is gonna go. Jet Show
coming up next. It's over in LA.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
It's a big w for the Dolphins.
Speaker 1 (14:06):
Will break it down and I will ask the most
maddening question about the Rams.
Speaker 2 (14:12):
That's next right here, Jason and Mike. Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (14:15):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (14:27):
The Jason Smith Show with My best friend Mike Harmon.
Speaker 2 (14:30):
Operation Domination continues live from the.
Speaker 1 (14:32):
Tire Rack dot Com Studios where we just watched the
Dolphins meet the Rams D three to fifteen. It wasn't
a great game. It was somewhat of a close game
because at least the Rams never really felt like, okay,
they're completely out of it. Sure never ran away and
hid five field goals. Kept kicking field goals. Man, Just
keep kicking field goals. Keep kicking key. That's fine if
(14:55):
you can actually stop the other offense when you need
to maybe convert a are down here and there and
not kick everything from fifty plus yards. But these are
two teams where I'll tell you, man, they make you
just throw your hands up and say what the hell?
First with the Rams every time, this was not a
great night from the Rams tonight. Every time I feel like,
(15:20):
here come the Rams. Right, every time I feel like,
here come the Rams. They're getting healthy, they're getting their
weapons back, Cooper Cup is on his way back. Anybody
who runs the football for the Rams is gonna do fine.
Here they come. Their defense is really good, right, we
told you how.
Speaker 2 (15:36):
Good it was.
Speaker 1 (15:36):
They revamped it in one off season. They went from
an old team to a really young team. Here come
the Rams. Every time I feel that way, they give
you something like this. Now the silver lining is that, well,
it's the NFC West and you're really not out of
it because everybody stinks the Cardinals are the Cardinals alone.
But hey, Cardinals, just watched your Jets. You can't Jets stink.
(15:58):
We're terrible.
Speaker 2 (15:59):
We just did not know. But but you're terrible, but
you're trying to be mystic.
Speaker 3 (16:03):
They went and beat you.
Speaker 1 (16:05):
They dominated, okay, and next week they can go out
and lose thirty eight seven because that's the Cardinals do.
The show is today the Cardinal. The Cardinals look they're
fun because you.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
Don't know what you get last six they're.
Speaker 1 (16:15):
Like birdie bots. Every flavor beans. I could get a
raspberry flavored beans or a booger flavor beans.
Speaker 2 (16:19):
That's the Cardinal. Doesn't matter. One week they look great,
one week great.
Speaker 1 (16:23):
There is video evidence says people think boogers are delicious.
Speaker 2 (16:28):
Okay, well you're okay, you're comfortable with that, Okay, all.
Speaker 1 (16:31):
Right, rogers. I mean, how many quarterbacks and football players
have we've seen in the middle of games. Hey, what's
he doing over there?
Speaker 5 (16:38):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (16:39):
You know what he We're not talking about that, We're
not talking about wrong. No, we're not talking about buggers,
we're not talking about burgers. I'm sorry, Done, No, you're
the one that how did I bring it up?
Speaker 2 (16:48):
You're the one. You could have gone with any other
flavor in the.
Speaker 1 (16:50):
World, but you went like bo booger did bring it up?
Speaker 2 (16:53):
I did you know?
Speaker 3 (16:54):
Mary?
Speaker 2 (16:55):
You know you know you know you did? I did.
Speaker 1 (16:57):
I just I was talking about Booger McFarlane. That's I
was talking about Booger mccar. I was talking of a
Booker mcfrawl And I said, sometimes you get a Booger
mcflorland Farland flavored birdie. But but this is this is
a Rams team that every time I say okay, they've
(17:19):
got it, they find a way to hit the brake pedal.
And it doesn't make any sense because they're they're pretty
healthy right now. Uh Nikua had a big night tonight,
so did Cooper Cup. But the Rams wound up kicking
five field goals. And how do they kick five fields
when you have all these kinds of weapons. It's maddening
that this is how talented they are, and yet still
(17:39):
you get games like this from them, and and and
it's it's a point now where you went from all boy,
look at the Rams. They're they're, they're, they're, they're. Nothing's
happening for them, and they're underachieving and they're injured. All
of a sudden, after last week, I'm like, they're backman,
Rams gonna win the NFC West. Look at and then
you get a night like tonight where it's like, Wow,
you didn't even didn't The Dolphins didn't really do a lot,
(17:59):
and you still get an effort like this where it's
just so so bad in the red zone or not
even approaching the red zone. You're kicking fifty yard field
goals the entire night. They are so maddening because every
time I want to believe in the Rams and their
talent and they're coaching, because I love the way that
this franchise is run top to bottom, I get a
game like this and I go, I don't know what
(18:20):
the hell that was? Man, I really don't know what
the hell that was. Yeah, I mean, you look at
the last couple of weeks for the Dolphins, near misses,
and the offense was clicking a bit right twenty eight,
twenty seventy to the eight Cardinals, thirty to twenty seven
against the Bills, even if you want to dismiss the Cardinals,
you don't against the Bills, and then for the Rams,
it's been a shuffling of the offensive line, so you
(18:43):
had a little bit of that today, but all to say,
you had drop passes, bad penalties. We were talking about
it with Jason Locking for a little bit last hour
as he was hanging on every Rams offensive possession and
every play with the vine tooth comb where you've got
an opportunity. Even the fifty seven yard field goal miss,
well that was after a procedural penalty, right, the pre
(19:04):
snap penalties that normally don't fell an offense run bya
Sean McVay and Matt Stafford. Part of that being the
shuffling of the offensive line, timing continuity, But all of
that to say, you were finally, at least with all
your skill position players. As you mentioned, you finally had
everybody back, so it looked like an opportunity to make
some hay and every third down play you were left
(19:27):
scratching your head for one reason or another and couldn't
get a couldn't finish drives right, good, you're talking about
the stats doesn't look terrible. Two ninety three Nikua near
to one hundred yards. It's all empty calories. When you
have to keep kicking field goals, you give up the
one big drive that results in the one yard Tyreek
(19:48):
Hill touchdown catch. You did a great job keeping their
run game in check, right a Chan and everybody else.
Jalen right at five cars he had three yards. A
Chan just twelve carries for thirty seven yards.
Speaker 2 (20:02):
All of that.
Speaker 1 (20:03):
You did everything right on that side, just couldn't finish.
And that's the frustration of it is that this was
a team you were very high on coming into the year.
I had them going to the Super Bowl on defense, everything,
even with Aaron Donald walking away, that there'd be enough
topsy turiness. And part of it was, you know, an
(20:25):
astute observation of hey, things are not right in forty
nine or Land. We'll get to them as we go through.
But yeah, here was a great opportunity on a big
stage to really get yourself back at the wild card
spot in the NFC and trench yourself there with an
opportunity to go take the division. Meanwhile, we're talking about
the resurrection of the Dolphins and the potential to thrust
(20:48):
themselves back in Now, if you think the Rams are
a mystery, right. The Dolphins are an enigma wrapped in
a mystery, shrouded in a question mark.
Speaker 2 (20:58):
Like that's the Dolphins and some filo dough or what
do we doing?
Speaker 4 (21:01):
Ooh?
Speaker 2 (21:02):
I like filo do? That is nice?
Speaker 6 (21:03):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (21:04):
Yeah, uh, I think you can burn filo dough. Really,
you gotta be a pretty talented chef to make the
right filo do.
Speaker 2 (21:11):
Oh the filo do? Forget? You got enough oil on
the wax paper like all of that stuff.
Speaker 1 (21:15):
Listened, This Filo do is in the day old bin
because we burned it, so it's gonna be a lot cheaper.
Speaker 2 (21:20):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (21:20):
The Dolphins journey and I was talking one of my
best friends is a Dolphins fan, and I said, you
got to help me out with something that I go,
how does your team go from last year where it
was the Dolphins are setting the world on fire. Look
how fast everybody is. Look how fast h Chan is.
Look the Tyreek Hill Jalen Waddle that cannot be stopped.
(21:41):
This is there the future of the NFL. Mike McDaniel
was the next Sean mcvaig, an offensive head coach. We're
so fast you can't even see us. Now, I get that, well,
they're a little bit more of a finesse team, and
sometimes you wind up getting punch in the mouth, especially
you're Miami if you're playing a big away game, playoff
game on the road and zero degree whether what they
(22:03):
played that game against the Chiefs last year and was
the third coldest game of all times in the crowd. Yeah,
but this was what the Dolphins were on the way,
like they were becoming the next great big team in
the NFL. And all of a sudden, the narrative in
the offseason for the Dolphins was, well, that was kind
of a.
Speaker 2 (22:20):
Get by year. Now we have to trim some.
Speaker 1 (22:22):
Salary a little bit and we have to, you know,
kind of make twenty twenty four a transition year to
get to what's next. I'm like, the hell are you
talking about? To a sign Tyreek Hill was signed eight
chan is still in.
Speaker 2 (22:33):
A rookie cart. What the hell do you mean? The
defense is pretty good?
Speaker 1 (22:36):
You have a pretty good defense. They shuffled a lot
of defensive parts, right, but look, but your defense is good.
Speaker 2 (22:41):
This year. Their defense in the top third of the NFL.
Speaker 1 (22:44):
Right when you talk overall, their defense in the top third,
top third in yards allowed, top third in passing yards allowed.
This is a pretty good defense, So is it the best?
Speaker 2 (22:54):
Is it the best team defense in the NFL?
Speaker 1 (22:56):
No, But when you talk about defense in the top
third of the NFL, with their offensive weapons, you should
be destroying teams. And I know that Tua was out
a little bit and miss some time, but it doesn't
matter to us.
Speaker 2 (23:05):
Come back. Then they've lost games, and.
Speaker 1 (23:07):
I don't know where they went from we are what's
next in the NFL to boy, we're just trying to
make things work and then there's gonna be big changes
in the offseason. I don't know where that came from.
And a night like tonight where you can see where
they kind of gutted their way to a win, where
Tua was efficient enough with the weapons he had, he
was efficient enough. The Rams have to be saying we
held him a two hundred yards of throwing the football
(23:29):
and they couldn't run the ball at all. And eight
Chan was their biggest rusher and he ran for thirty
seven yards, Like, how do we not win this game?
Like the Dolphins find a way to gut this win out,
Yet other weeks they look like they're blown out after
the first quarter, like they are so maddening. I don't
understand what happened to them from the apex of last
year of going into the playoffs and the bad luck
(23:50):
you could say, of having to play in Kansas City
with that game, to where they are this season, where
it's been a whole off season and first half of
the season of yeah, we're kind of a team in transit.
How the hell are you a team in transition? This
is the team you wanted to build. The B and
eighth Chen was the next was the guy that was
making everything work for this team. You either were unstoppable
(24:10):
and now here's where they are and they're struggling. They're
three and six and they're probably gonna miss the playoffs.
They I'll tell you if the Rams make you scratch
your head and go, what the hell man the Dolphins,
that is the Rams on steroids?
Speaker 2 (24:22):
Man.
Speaker 1 (24:22):
Well, we look at Tua to this point, right for
this year, he has now played in five games, five touchdowns,
three picks. But you look at the last couple of weeks,
they're scoring twenty points plus per game. Right near misses
against Arizona and Buffalo. Is it laid out to where
you lost putting up twenty seven points. Your only other
(24:44):
twenty point game before tonight, and those two was Week
one when they stole that game against Jacksonville twenty to seventeen.
They came into tonight averaging fifteen point five points per game.
So in the two lists weeks, again owing to the
how important is your backup quarterback position? Every team?
Speaker 2 (25:05):
As soon as.
Speaker 1 (25:06):
Your final gun sounds on a year, is what does
our backup quarter back position look like for next year?
Speaker 2 (25:12):
Do we have a guy on our roster?
Speaker 1 (25:14):
What's the wins above replacement or points above replacement for
our guy to the next guy, Because clearly it's a disaster.
Speaker 2 (25:23):
Yeah, but i'd be I'd be with you on that.
Speaker 1 (25:24):
But but even when Tua came back, he's he's only
won two games. No, no, but you're losing twenty eight, twenty seven.
Like I'm just saying, you're putting up points now, but
you're not stopping the good teams or better teams. Right,
It's it's one thing, Hey, if they're getting shell ACKed
with two out there, that's fine, but they're losing close games.
Speaker 2 (25:43):
So now it's in two. But two has only got one.
Speaker 1 (25:45):
He threw three hundred yards Week one, hasn't had three
hundred dard games and now yes he was.
Speaker 2 (25:51):
Different one.
Speaker 1 (25:52):
This is the offense. This offense is made from the
throw for three. He led the league in yards passing
a year ago. And everything old is that's day yesterday,
but it's an old day now.
Speaker 2 (26:01):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (26:02):
I feel like the Dolphins instead, like they we were
shown the shiny new car last year that really revved
up and looked great when when it had when you
took it for a test drive, Oh, zero to sixty.
Speaker 2 (26:12):
Look at that.
Speaker 1 (26:13):
But then you buy the car and you realize, oh,
well we just put a fancy coat of pain on it,
and the engine really was only good for that one
little burst up to sixty zero to say the rest
of it, good luck.
Speaker 2 (26:21):
You might have to get it replaced. Well, I mean, really,
it's in your engine has a concussion. Yeah, but he's them.
Speaker 1 (26:27):
But even but even when when he's come back, they've
not been they've not been able to win. I mean,
I don't understand. I don't understand how how they've gone
for a new driver. Well they came a lot of money.
It doesn't matter, right, But again, I mean, look tonight
they get the w twenty three points, the last couple
of weeks you lost to good teams and you put
(26:48):
up twenty seven on the board, Like, I don't see
how that's bad, right, You've been averaging far fewer than
that in the weeks he was gone, like your engine
got taken out and you you were like Fred Flintstone
with your feet for a number of weeks trying to
give this thing.
Speaker 2 (27:05):
You know, that might not be the worst way to
drive a car.
Speaker 1 (27:07):
Just oh, by the way, if you just holdly go
to the store for something, well, if you go on
the highway, that's pretty tough. Well, you know, you can
use your feet to go. I mean I would want
something with more tracks. I couldn't use bare feet obviously,
but like something.
Speaker 2 (27:17):
With traction get going.
Speaker 1 (27:18):
Well, I mean that's not a bad way to go.
I mean we can maybe make that the next evolution.
Since they're now going to tax gas even more so,
maybe we need more pedal cars. Every time I want
to believe the rams are back to give you a
game like this, And when the when the Dolphins win
a game like this, I go, what the hell they
been doing for the last like six months?
Speaker 2 (27:38):
It's crazy? I think you know.
Speaker 1 (27:39):
Earlier today, Eric Dickerson on a five seventy LA Sports
talking about the RAMS and the potential for one of
these efforts. Just that the devil is not has been
in the details in terms of besetting what looks like
a pretty good drive. Okay, there's that penalty. Okay, there's
that drop pass. Stafford throwing a ball, I mean he
(28:00):
had a wide open receiver. What happens throws it right
into the shoulder of a defender that's bearing down on
him instead of finding a throwing lane.
Speaker 2 (28:10):
All of that, you know, it's in the margins.
Speaker 1 (28:13):
Uh, and where those plays have been made by the
McVeigh offense and Stafford in the past, they've gone asunder.
I tell you, man enigma rapped in the mystery, shrouded
in a question mark time, going to find out what's
trending from man who once went to a drive in
ordered the large order of ribs. It showed up, tipped
his car over, he had to leave and Steve de Sager.
Speaker 4 (28:35):
You know you can't argue with the mileage on the
foot stop car. I'll say that pretty hard on the feed.
So what you're saying, Jason about the RAMS is like
Michael Corleone's.
Speaker 2 (28:46):
What I thought I was out, they put me back.
That's about right.
Speaker 6 (28:51):
I think you might be out permanently.
Speaker 2 (28:52):
Wasn't that Sean mcvagy. That was Sean mcvagh After the game.
Speaker 4 (28:55):
You know, they actually not score a touchdown With Sean McVay,
he's been there eight years. This is only eight times
in eight years they've had a game with no touchdown
score and this is against the Miami team that, granted
didn't have two of the whole season, but had lost
six of seven since its season opener Miami twenty three
to fifteen the final.
Speaker 6 (29:12):
At the Rams.
Speaker 4 (29:13):
And there may not be as many three hundred yard
passing games these days, but there are more games with
fifty yard field goals, and we certainly had that tonight.
Speaker 2 (29:22):
In fact, league wide.
Speaker 4 (29:24):
There have been now one hundred and nine field goals
made from fifty yards or beyond. That is top five
all time for this point of an NFL season, and yes,
most of those seasons in the top five.
Speaker 6 (29:35):
Are in the last five years of NFL.
Speaker 2 (29:37):
That Sarah Langs does she have? That is that at
Sarah Langs.
Speaker 6 (29:40):
That is associated press. This would be a football stat.
Once again, She's could.
Speaker 2 (29:43):
Be branching out you never know she gets a season off.
Speaker 6 (29:46):
Yes, yeah, absolutely.
Speaker 4 (29:48):
By the way, stat wise, for those of you who love,
a good on sidekick doesn't exist anymore.
Speaker 2 (29:52):
No, it's true two or three.
Speaker 6 (29:55):
It's two two for thirty.
Speaker 1 (29:57):
Now after this, you're talking to a guy who watched
his college team potentially win a game. But no, no, no,
after covering an on side kick, get a call of
a player was blocking before the ball was touched by
the other team, because you know, ACC reps are so good.
Speaker 4 (30:12):
And that's when the Syracuse coach then said, I don't
even shower after a loss.
Speaker 6 (30:16):
I don't deserve the soap.
Speaker 2 (30:18):
No, that is the best. There you go, fran Brago coach.
Speaker 1 (30:24):
Okay, I don't know that your family would like that,
but okay, all right, okay.
Speaker 2 (30:29):
They knew the drill. I don't deserve soap.
Speaker 4 (30:32):
Thanks for the commitment. So the Rams lose it home
by eight tonights. They went five for six on field goals.
Dolphins after the opening TD drive only one hundred and
sixty eight yards of offense on nine drives. They're running
backs seventeen carries forty yards. But at w and Tyreek
Hill was active. The wide receiver still with a bad
Risk did not practice Friday or Saturday, but at a
(30:54):
one yard TD reception tonight. By the way, former Rams
and USC coach John Robinson died at the age of
eighty nine. In the NBA, Cleveland twelve and oh got
to win at Chicago one nineteen to one thirteen. Donovan
Mitchell thirty six points the Bulls with twenty turnovers Oklahoma
City over the Clippers one thirty four, one twenty eight
as Shay Gilgis Alexander had forty five points. Damian Lillard
(31:17):
of Milwaukee is in concussion protocol. College basketball wins for Alabama,
Iowa State, and Purdue.
Speaker 6 (31:23):
In the top twenty.
Speaker 4 (31:24):
In a late game in the NHL, late second period,
Hurricanes lead for nothing at Vegas. Dallas a seven to
one winner at Pittsburgh and the MLB award finalists came out.
The major awards get handed out next week, but yes,
Aaron Judge is a finalist for AL MVP and Shoho
Tani for nl MVP. Paul Skeins of Pittsburgh is a
(31:45):
finalist for nl Cy Young as well as for Rookie
of the Year, which will be announced next mondayave they
seem to have missed a big one for NL Manager
of the Year.
Speaker 2 (31:54):
I don't I don't see.
Speaker 1 (31:55):
Yeah, I don't see Dave Roberts Sundel Oh really because
I could have managed that team?
Speaker 2 (31:59):
Hey, really the Jets? Hey Otani? Uh, you know you do?
What do you wanna do for the bullpen? I don't
care whoever you want.
Speaker 1 (32:06):
I'm just gonna spin the wheel at whoever We're gonna
bring that guy in.
Speaker 2 (32:09):
That's how it'll work. That would have worked.
Speaker 4 (32:11):
I could have done that this last month. Granted this
is not a postseason award. This last month, I will say,
for all the understandable criticism he's received, he was phenomenal.
Speaker 6 (32:20):
Everything he tried worked.
Speaker 1 (32:22):
He I mean the Dave Roberts middle Finger Tour in
the postseason you want to question it. But during the season, come.
Speaker 2 (32:27):
On, man, how much managing a tons tons well that
final six weeks really for the post.
Speaker 1 (32:35):
Hey, I just got an idea. What let's hit o'tani leadoff? Oh?
Speaker 2 (32:39):
Good, idea? Skip? All right, let's do that.
Speaker 6 (32:41):
That's great, Okay.
Speaker 4 (32:42):
All the time, rookie Betts missed and on and on
rotation literally for a team not to have five starting
pitchers for the year in a five man rotation and
still finished with the most wins in the majors.
Speaker 6 (32:54):
Was kind of amazing.
Speaker 2 (32:56):
Hey, Carlos Mendoza was nominator you okay.
Speaker 4 (32:58):
Yes he was met and the Padres manager and the
Brewers manager. We'll find out the winner Tuesday of next week.
Speaker 6 (33:04):
Beg to you, Thank you, Steve.
Speaker 1 (33:06):
The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon
Coming up next, There is a new team in the
running for biggest train wreck of the year in the NFL.
Hartman's raising his hand. Come on over. How about something
a little bit different than what you've heard all day today,
the last twenty four hours about this team that's next
right here, Jason and.
Speaker 2 (33:25):
Mike Fox we just talked about Aaron Rodgers and the Jets.
It's not the Jets Jet Schoe, Well maybe it is.
Speaker 3 (33:34):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific, Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (33:42):
The Jason Smith Show with My best friend Mike Harmon.
Speaker 2 (33:45):
Song makes you want to go take a ride on
the l You're not gonna do the whole.
Speaker 1 (33:50):
Makes me want to date to my underwear in the
living room with a collared shirt on. No, I'm thinking
about the rest of the movie. Okay, I have a
Trigg midterm tom ow I'm being chased by Okay. The
song came out the last time the Jets were relevant, right,
eighty good?
Speaker 2 (34:06):
No, we stunk in eighty three. Eighty two was good
for see.
Speaker 6 (34:12):
I just like always suck.
Speaker 2 (34:14):
For the most part.
Speaker 1 (34:15):
Yeah, Maria, Yeah, a couple of years that are outliers,
like if you have the map, it's like straight line
and then it comes back.
Speaker 2 (34:25):
That's so bad.
Speaker 1 (34:26):
Rebecca de Morney saying, I want to make love on
a real train. Oh yeah, sure h Now, speaking of
the album that gets us to the Bears. Another awful
the worst. How many teams are going to have their
worst game of the year against the Patriots. It's the Jets,
It's the Bears. It's a body count for the Patriots
(34:46):
right now. We are just racking up bodies. Man, We're
firing people and getting people to quit when we beat
these teams. An awful effort by the Bears and another
bad game by Caleb Williams who is completely regressed. And
the last twenty four hours it's been one of the
biggest stories in the NFL is it? The coaching is
it Caleb Williams. And to give you something different than
(35:09):
what you've heard the last twenty four hours about that,
I will say this goes back even further than that.
When you have a head coach and you have a
coaching staff in place that you don't know is what
you want to go forward with? Right eber Flus has
not been able to win coming off a seven win season.
Oh but maybe we're gonna win, so we'll entrust you
(35:31):
with the number one pick in the drug. That was
a good second half after the Montes sweat deal. The
defense play and Alan Williams went away. But the other
game we don't know what, however, happened to allow wims.
But the other games count too. Though again it goes
back to there's still dollars in play. Hallis McCaskey. They're
not paying a guy to go sit on his ass.
(35:52):
But this is why, and this is the bit of
a different This is why teams clear the decks and
it's a new coaching staff and anew everything. When you're
drafting a quarterback number one overall, why would you come
in and saddle a quarterback and a new start with
a coaching staff that you don't know is even going
(36:13):
to be there, and then look at what happens to
his first year.
Speaker 2 (36:16):
Iber Flus is a DC.
Speaker 1 (36:17):
First of all, I don't know why you would say
we're okay with having a DC being the head coach
when we need an offensive minded head coach with some
kind of system that he knows is going to be
the right one for Caleb Williams. Right, well, and you're
all the players that was spent building. You brought up players, right,
You brought it to players. You have to bring in
enough talent at the core position. And this is where
I get back to the guy at raw with the fire,
(36:41):
Ryan Poles a side up front and close. Your offensive
line stunk last year and they are even worse this year.
And this week was really the epitome of all of
it because you were missing several players due to injury,
which I'm sure you didn't hear on any other analysis
of this show of the Bears and their effort coming
into this week is already playing behind a bad offensive line.
(37:05):
Now you're playing with a completely shuffled offensive line where
nobody knows what they're doing, but you've getting buried you've
you've postponed the future because if this was a year
with a new head, coach, new system, everything in place, Okay,
we're gonna learn from this year what worked, what didn't,
and now we're gonna push it for next year. Now
it's a new guy coming in that's got to figure
out what didn't work, put his own system in, figure
(37:27):
out if Caleb Williams is his guy. Now it's an
arranged marriage because you're coming into coach a guy that
you didn't have any say so, and in to pick him,
and can you make it work. That's why this was
the worst thing you can do is when you're drafting
that and when you are starting your franchise over again,
and whenever you're picking number one overall and you're picking
a quarterback, Hey, that's you make that coaching change because
you finished first for you have the number one overall
(37:49):
pick for reason. If you're not good, obviously you had
trades and you want it with a number one pick
this year. But that's when you say, okay, let's make
sure we have an offensive mind to coach, here, to draft,
to mold Kaylee Williams into being the best version of himself.
And now all this is is a lost year where
you don't know if it's the coaching, you don't know
if it's the player. You don't know what bad habits
Caleb Williams has developed. And now I'm wondering is his
(38:11):
ceiling Trevor Lawrence?
Speaker 2 (38:13):
Right?
Speaker 1 (38:13):
Is this when you go next year and bring in
a head coach at Doug Peterson, like what you did
for Trevor Lawrence. Hey he got Trevor Lawrence being a
league average quarterback. Well, sorry, he needs to be better
than that, because right now, Trevor Lawrence is just a
guy and you're stuck with all that money. Like I
feel that way about Caleb Williams. Is who ever coming
in gonna make him anything more than a league average quarterback?
Because this first year he has not really flashed, he
(38:33):
has regrettsed, it's been awful. How do you not say, okay, sorry,
Matt ebra Flus, Yeah, two years, but you didn't really
win a lot of games.
Speaker 2 (38:41):
So we're going with.
Speaker 1 (38:41):
Someone that we think can come in that that is
gonna have a big say in the pick and what
we have going forward, and that's how we're gonna build
this team.
Speaker 2 (38:49):
Yeah, the bigger thing is I don't care how quote
good he is. Was he gonna be great? Right?
Speaker 1 (38:54):
Good coordinator? Right, We've got plenty of them. Hell, look,
Noravel Turner is back with the Raider. Okay, a head coach,
not terrible, but not a guy who was anywhere close
to being a head coach as good as he was
a coordinator in the NFL. Just go on down the line.
History is littered with him on both sides of the ball,
(39:15):
and so the hard reboot. Yeah, that's the obvious thing.
Problem is most of these teams can't get out of
their own way and going forward. For the Bears, now
they're in competition with all these other squads where you
may not love their quarterbacks situation, but they're formed and
then you move through it, exit out about a Fresca
exit swelling dome. We'll have more on this story coming
(39:37):
up next, as well as one quarterback maybe on his
way out and a shocking one also Fox
