Speaker 3 (00:54):
So Pete Futech on the way.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
In twenty minutes, all the big news from college football,
including reaction to Florida State's upset loss at Virginia earlier tonight.
Uh and I know you know there's a couple of
people I've talked to over the course of the last
like twenty years, like, uh, you know college football people,
and they they all tell me that the same thing.
(01:17):
I've heard this from more than a couple of people
that they always hate when there's an upset on Thursday
or Friday night because they feel like it's contagious, right,
like teams, like there's a lot of c and it's
just it's just, you know, it's one of those you know, hey,
you know, it's a karma thing.
Speaker 4 (01:33):
It's it's a tempting fate thing.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
It's not there's no scientific evidence, and it's just, hey,
if there's an upset Thursday, Friday, it's contagious. The worready
gets contagious, and and it happens on the weekends and
we get more nervous for it we see in upset
on Thursday or Friday. Just one thing I've heard that.
You know, obviously there's no evidence for it, there's no well,
and you see an upset on Thursday, you got this set.
But just like, hey, we don't want any upset. We
(01:56):
don't want the upset gods to awaken right and and have.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
It talk to us.
Speaker 1 (01:59):
So uh, clearly, I'm sure people be thinking about that tomorrow,
coming off of Florida State's lost to Virginia earlier tonight.
Speaker 5 (02:05):
Well, we always talk about superstitions, right, Baseball plenty of
those all the way. You got some really eccentric characters
through the years, but certainly football coaches. The paranoia is real.
We've watched that.
Speaker 6 (02:18):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (02:19):
And then all the stories related to Brady uh And
and his broadcast versus ownership.
Speaker 7 (02:25):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (02:26):
You know, kind of paradox that has created so much
content and angst and anger folks. Folks, calm down, It'll
be okay. But all of that it brings up well,
remember this scandal and how about that scandal? And what
about this? And then that translates back into you know,
you lost focus for one minute and bam.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
I'll tell you.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
Look at this game and we we I kind of
knew this was coming because we talked about it going in.
When the when Virginia was up by a touchdown with
about five minutes left to go, Cass throws a pick,
a deep.
Speaker 3 (03:01):
Throw right to the right side of the field by cast.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
De Lino said, uh, And all of a sudden, Virginia
students started getting closer to the field, closer to the
field clock.
Speaker 3 (03:10):
Because they can come right down, it would be right there.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
I said, they can't wait to rush this field, like
they absolutely cannot wait to get on this field. The
final play, which is a fourth down heave by cast
A Linos that gets picked off.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
In the end zone.
Speaker 1 (03:25):
I don't know that I've I mean, I gotta think,
but I don't know that I've ever seen a field
get rushed faster than then happen right there because the ball,
like if it wasn't fourth down, and when it was
a play where it maybe you had to realize who
caught the ball or it? How are you putting that
genie back in the bottle? The fans are on the
field so fast in that corner, like that's one of
(03:47):
the fastest rushes of the field I have ever seen.
I don't know that I've ever seen a field get
rushed that quick after a game is over. No couple
of seconds of hugging. Just as soon as this game
is over, we are just running on the field.
Speaker 4 (04:02):
I don't know what we're gonna do. We're just gonna
run on the field. Yeah, I mean, you get that anticipation.
Speaker 5 (04:08):
And it's been a minute, right, it's been what two
years and they took down North Carolina.
Speaker 4 (04:13):
That was road game, so on the home field.
Speaker 5 (04:17):
The opportunity to to let out some of that well
chaotic impulse that you have. Maybe maybe you were tailgating
a little hard before you came over, I don't know,
and you're getting ready for a big Saturday in the
in the post game, Yeah, then then you rush the
field that it's never I always got caught up in waves.
I wanted nothing to do with it because nothing good's
(04:40):
gonna happen. I don't know how they get fined a lot.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
Yeah, I mean, I don't even know if the interception
was secure, Like you know, you have no idea like
if that wasn't fourth down, if that wasn't okay, the
game is over on this play. Uh, this is how
it's gonna go. I mean, you really you need to
go back and look at it and figure things out.
But it doesn't matter, Like I mean, okay, I don't
think you can go back to replay and say, let's
look and see does he secure the ball? Does he
(05:05):
gotta Now you've seen the fields cleared before they gave
him credit. They gave him credit for the interception, which
is good, but like I mean, I really, I don't
know that he caught it. I just know that Florida
State didn't catch it.
Speaker 4 (05:18):
It doesn't matter what matter. The game is over.
Speaker 5 (05:22):
So if you had the individual college fantasy game, you
lost two points.
Speaker 3 (05:26):
Oh man. Now again.
Speaker 1 (05:29):
We'll have more college football from Pete Futech coming up
in about fifteen minutes. But we kick things off Sunday
with a really fun game. Look, is it really fun
if you live on the West Coast you play fantasy? No,
it's never fun when a game kicks off at six
thirty in the morning.
Speaker 4 (05:43):
Gotta make sure I got my guys.
Speaker 5 (05:45):
Hey, hey, I'll be up with Greg co Sell and
we'll break down that first half hour of that game
live here on.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
You're gonna wake up for me and change my lineup,
or and make sure my lineup is good.
Speaker 3 (05:56):
No, I got you.
Speaker 4 (05:57):
If you need me too, stop looking out for yourself.
Speaker 5 (06:00):
I'm on here at five am Sunday morning. Great go
selling I Fox Football Sunday, shameless.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
Plug Minnesota and Pittsburgh and two big stories coming out
of this. The first one is a really fun one
because Aaron Rodgers today says he wishes the Steelers got
to Ireland for the game games in Dublin sooner than Friday,
because he said, quote, well the schedule been a little
different if I could have chosen it, maybe we get
over on Monday. Tuesday is the day off. Good to
(06:28):
get out see some things. It's a beautiful country, it
seems like from pictures. So basically, Aaron Rodgers wanted a vacation,
is what he's saying.
Speaker 5 (06:36):
Well, he's just gonna have an off day anyway, so
why not have it in Dublin, And I want to
come over in Pittsburgh.
Speaker 3 (06:42):
I want to come over on Monday.
Speaker 1 (06:43):
He's even said, fly Monday off day Tuesday, right, Like, Hey,
what I wanted a vacation? Right Like It's like Rogers
is trying to be that that Hey, I'm the I'm
the veteran, I'm the guy that's seen it all. You
want to be able to stop and smell the roses.
I want to be that guy to tell the young players, Hey,
you don't know what I know, and this is how
important this is. And I'm the sense that everybody needs
(07:05):
to listen to. Dude, you just wanted a vacation. I
think you've made enough money and shown that in the offseason,
you've skipped football activities to travel to exotic places. So
I'm pretty sure if you really wanted to go to Ireland,
you could do it for about fifteen grand and have
a really nice trip. And I think you could afford that. Again,
I'm just I'm just saying, I think you could afford
(07:26):
that the guy.
Speaker 5 (07:28):
Wants price around trip tickets for the summer under a
grand for the flight.
Speaker 1 (07:32):
I mean, look, and and you know what, and and
good and seriously good on Art Rooney for saying that, Hey,
we made a football decision. Hey he said, I'd like
to get the guy over here for a few more
days too, but we're in the middle of the season,
so we had to do what's best for the football
side of things. Yeah, okay, I get Look, if you're
going over you're doing things for the NFL and you're you're,
you know, doing outreach for the game and everything. Okay,
(07:54):
but the NFL allowing the teams to make their own schedule,
which honestly is kind of stupid because you're growing the game.
You have a team there for three days, Like, really,
don't you want the teams there earlier?
Speaker 3 (08:03):
Okay?
Speaker 1 (08:05):
So yeah, in theory, I I hear what Roger was
talking about. But dude, you basically just said you wanted
a vacation. I wish, like this is this is the
season you started off, You're two and one, you wont
a couple of games and yeah, but he went into
a whole big thing about how he really likes to
drink Guinness and he heard it taste different in in
in Ireland than it does in the United States. I
really wish I could have been here before. Dude, you
can go any time you want to bad no one.
(08:27):
You could go any time you want. You could go
in the bye week. If you really want to go to.
Speaker 4 (08:32):
Ireland, well you could stay stay behind there.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
You could do that if you wanted to be Really,
the guy wanted a vacation. I mean, if this doesn't
tell you how much he has checked out, right, I'll
tell you We're gonna have a much different conversation about
Aaron Rodgers week eight, week nine than we're having Aaron
Rodgers right now, because by by the middle of the
season it's gonna completely fall apart. He's gonna show you
how he's done, and then what the hell are you
gonna do? The guy has come into this season mentally like,
(08:57):
I just don't give a crap anymore, man.
Speaker 3 (08:59):
I really don't care.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
And to just basically say I wish you were here
for a free vacation on the Steelers dime.
Speaker 3 (09:06):
That that's that's that's.
Speaker 1 (09:08):
A special thing to say right there, man I, that's
a special thing for him to say.
Speaker 5 (09:11):
Now, the league did have to issue a statement that
it's up to the teams when they travel because it
had been positive that the the NFL determined that and
that they couldn't go over So no, that that that
goes away. But for Aaron Rodgers, look, we've had our
plenty of Aaron Rodgers discussions over the last couple of years.
Speaker 4 (09:33):
I kind of agree with him.
Speaker 5 (09:34):
I mean, if you're gonna have a day off, why
not schedule it to where you can be in Dublin.
You acclimate to the time you get that day off,
you go do some touristy things, shake some hands, kiss
some babies. Again to the larger point of ambassadorship, maybe
are they gonna go to Rio a couple of days earlier?
Speaker 4 (09:52):
I think they will.
Speaker 8 (09:53):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (09:53):
But all of that to say, for Aaron Rodgers, I
don't know that it's necessarily a lack of focus in
this case.
Speaker 1 (10:00):
Man, dude, I hear what you're saying, and I and
I agree with what you're saying. But here's Rogers basically saying, yeah,
we should have had a vacation.
Speaker 5 (10:07):
Well, it's one of those optics kind of that's a
tough message to say. You know where you've had a
lot of questions about your state in the game, not
not only how well you can play it, but whether
you're one hundred percent wanting to be that guy you
want to.
Speaker 4 (10:24):
Work because he was a stone cold killer for you.
D He talked.
Speaker 1 (10:27):
About wanting to go over to drink beer, like he's
talking about I want to go What are you here for?
Speaker 5 (10:32):
I want tours cool because at the end of the
you exit through GI gift shop and you get.
Speaker 4 (10:38):
A free beer. No, I get it, but you pay
it for the beer. But you get my point.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
I did the Heineken tour in in Amsterdam and it
was awesome, right.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
I hear you on that.
Speaker 1 (10:46):
But there's certain things that you think and certain things
that you say, and when you're not saying I wish
we were over here earlier because I really wanted to
drink more beer.
Speaker 3 (10:55):
That's what I expect to hear from John Daily.
Speaker 4 (10:57):
You know hear that from Rogers.
Speaker 5 (11:00):
Yeah, I mean, look, Tomlin enjoyed it a little bit,
so that was good. I do also appreciate though here
here's the thing with Aaron Rodgers. He's hit the old
man phase of his life. The I'm just gonna I'm
gonna say what I'm gonna say. I may offend you,
I may offend your sensibilities about what's right wrong, forget
about everything else, you know, the larger scale things.
Speaker 4 (11:23):
In our society.
Speaker 5 (11:24):
Just from a straight sporting perspective, this is the way
you operate, This is the way you practice. This is
just getting that. Hey, I'm old, I want to do
it my own way. Let's go beat it.
Speaker 3 (11:35):
I'm old. Now.
Speaker 1 (11:36):
The other part of this game, and this is really
this is to me is even more interesting because this
I love just watching the vice and the screws tightened
on the Vikings and their quarterback decision of JJ McCarthy
over Sam Darnold. This is their second game they played
without McCarthy, and you heard Kevin O'Connell say earlier this week, Hey,
(11:57):
no real timeline for when JJ McCarthy is absolutely coming back.
We have to wait and see. McCarthy has not been good.
He had one great quarter against the Bears. He has
not been good.
Speaker 2 (12:06):

(14:15):

our next guest, it's Pete feu Tech.
Speaker 4 (14:20):
Pete.
Speaker 3 (14:21):
What's happening, man?
Speaker 7 (14:22):
What's going on? Yeah? I think my problem is I'm
I love too hard, I love too much. Like I
just kind of assumed that, Okay, you know, Florida State's
kind of back and then and they might be. They
could be, you know, beat Miami next week and be
back again, just like I thought, you know what Clench
is going to bounce back against this, you know little
engine that could Syracuse thing. And you know, I thought
(14:46):
that Oklahoma they would be fine. And no, you know,
sometimes teams just don't quite bounce back and you know,
to where you thought they'd be before. And tonight's Florida State. Okay,
that was kind of more like I expected them to be,
where the offense was fun. And then gut smells on
went weird with the play calling late and man, could
(15:08):
Florida State not tackle anybody all game long?
Speaker 1 (15:12):
Well, I think Pete, if they had, if their defense
played with the intensity that the Virginia fans did rushing
the field, it would have been a different outcome because
that was that's the field rush.
Speaker 7 (15:22):
Alzheimer one was there whenever. It was like one of
the Boston Celtics championships, like eighty five or eighty six.
Remember that, we're like at the very end, Michael Cooper
missed it, and then it was just like, you know,
oh that was there was that, and there was this
field rush where you're right, you know some you know
someone hopefully you know, everyone's okay, hopefully, but man, there
(15:43):
are some people who just got just blown over. But
that was about the greatest field rush I have ever seen.
Speaker 3 (15:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (15:50):
I don't even know if that was an interception. I mean,
they gave it to him, but maybe it was. I don't,
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (15:55):
I couldn't tell.
Speaker 7 (15:56):
Yeah, all over them exactly.
Speaker 8 (15:58):
I didn't.
Speaker 7 (15:59):
I didn't even know. I thought for the split second there,
what if he caught it? Like I can't see it,
Like if he caught it, it would have been like
the wackiest thing ever. But this game had everything. You
had the babble or the guy taking twenty seven steps.
You know, these robins are going through the end zone
and all these crazy plays all over the place. It
(16:19):
looked like, man, it should have been, you know, just
a million bad plays here and there and nobody could tackle.
But man, it was a lot of fun.
Speaker 5 (16:28):
So Pete, we got a huge slate tomorrow. Let's go
to the back end of the top twenty five. Lincoln
Riley complaining now that he's got to play early after
complaining last week that he had to play late, and
Illinois is still smarting.
Speaker 4 (16:40):
I think Indiana just scored again.
Speaker 7 (16:43):
I'll kind of give Lincoln Riley this one because if
you're on the West coast, you're fine. But that did
that game against Michigan State did end actually around threeish
in the morning on the East coast time. That's kind
of crazy. So you know, these guys bounce back, but
they do have to travel far enough where it's it's
(17:06):
gonna matter a little bit. But let's see what they
can do. If you're that good, the time shouldn't matter.
You get up early, okay, so it's early, you have
to you know, these guys have to get up really
basically now to get everything you know, going for this game,
and so I get it to a sentence, then they
want a little more respect than that. But if coach
isn't whining about something that you go want so I
know that's a big one that Illinois got. This is
(17:28):
a weird one because that was just a game where
they just they didn't obviously have it. It looked more like,
all right, bad day, you lose by six or sixty,
it's all the same. Just I don't think that's Illinois,
and I don't think that's necessarily Indiana either, but we're
about to find out, because Illinois is the type of
team that could bounce back fast and take out USC.
Speaker 1 (17:48):
I'll tell you what, Pete of the heritage teams that
we want to say they're back this year, whether it's
Florida State, you, I think USC is back, like maybe
they just needed to be off the radar. But this
looks like the best team that Lincoln Riley has had. Yes, Jade,
myive is terrific and eventually in a couple of weeks
we'll talk about him being at the top of the
Heisman race. But their defensive line causes so much havoc.
(18:11):
And they look like they're having fun playing, and that's
a big thing. Right The USC looks like that their
defense is going up and down the field making plays.
Speaker 3 (18:20):
I think USC is.
Speaker 7 (18:21):
Back, we're about to see. I don't know about back.
I mean they're in that second tier, you know, because
right now you know that Oregon, Penn State, and Ohio
State are all at one level. Then there's a notch below,
and you look at the schedules and look at Indiana,
look at Michigan and look at USC. Those three are
(18:41):
all might finish ten and two, you know, and if
you're going ten and two in the Big Ten, you
are going to get into the college football playoff. At
the very least, you would be taking over a nine
win SEC team, no matter who it is. So there's
a lot of teams there that could, you know, can
rise up. But I so back Meeting, are the national
championship good? I don't think they're there at the very least.
(19:03):
If they if they're coming close, this is the game
tomorrow they got to take down. Because again, Illinois pretty good.
Speaker 5 (19:09):
So after a week off against Southeast Louisiana, we get
the LSU Tigers backed around the road at Old Miss.
Brian Kelly obviously always a guy we're looking at. We
were going having some fun with stats. Nuts Smyer is
U eighty second in the country at seven yards per attempt.
Speaker 4 (19:26):
Does that show tomorrow?
Speaker 7 (19:29):
At some point They've got They've got to show up
with this offense. And I think Ole Miss has the
dragon out of them at least this week. And look
at this is the grouchiest undefeated team in the country.
I mean they're playing great. I mean the defense has
been lighted out, the offense has been fine, the running
game isn't very good, and Brian Kelly's grouchy and Nuts
Smyer is, you know, he's got all the tools, but
(19:51):
it hasn't quite clicked yet. But they had better show
up because that offense is going to have to put
some points on the board because Ole Miss puts up
lots points. They don't have the defense. This is not
the same Rebel team in the last few years. They
don't have the talent on both sides of the ball.
I will still contend that right now, Lane Kiffin's probably
(20:12):
the best college coach if it's not Signetti, who's potentially
available for any big job opening you have because it
gets kind of lost. Ole Miss is not a massive
football program. It's big, but it's not one of the
humongous ones. It doesn't have the money of say, oh,
Wisconsin or you know some of these other big schools
(20:32):
that are going to have job openings very soon. So
between Signetti and Kiffin, I think Kiffin is kind of
playing himself into an even bigger gig. And he's got
now that could be Florida, could be if you name
the bigger, the big giant school. Someone's gonna want to
take him at some point because this He's been great
for this program.
Speaker 1 (20:52):
Pete Futech with US College Footballnews dot Com. All Right,
the big game of the day tomorrow Oregon and Penn State.
I love how James frank when spending a lot of
time this week being so upset about the time of
the game because of the white out. I'm like, this
is why James Franklin doesn't win big games, right. I
will pick Penn State to win a big game when
they show me they can win a big game with
James Franklin. That's what I'll stick with Oregon because Oregon
(21:14):
might be the best team in the country right now,
and I'll stick with Oregon going in and winning that
football game.
Speaker 7 (21:19):
I'm with you on all that, except for them at
James Franklin Apologist, I think, what's the set two and
seventeen against top ten teams? What do I always say?
You know, who's really good against top ten teams? Nobody?
Top ten teams. Yeah, and you win.
Speaker 1 (21:33):
One of those games, Pete once in a way, if
you're another top ten team and you're playing other top
ten teams, you should win a couple of those games.
Speaker 7 (21:41):
You should. But except but the look at those top
ten teams are they're like Ohio State, I mean it's
and every wipe of steat is that all every one
of those games that Penn State was the underdog and
all of them. So so it's not like they're you know,
they're they're losing too bad, you know, mediocre top ten
teams into the you know, the biggest of the big guys.
(22:02):
And the other part of this thing too is yes, okay,
and it's kind of like this goes to like so
the Ohio State Washington things this week too, where this
is not a game for example, that Ryan Day loses
Ryan Day Ohio State does not lose the Purdue James
Franklin doesn't lose the easier ones. The only coach who's
got who's been currently at the school is long or
(22:25):
longer than James Franklin and has won as many games,
and the percentage is dabbo. So Franklin, Yeah, okay, fine,
he has not won the biggest of the big but
he what about seventy five percent of his games? And
who do we argue with last year? Who can't win
the really big one and can't beat Michigan? Brian Day
who argue before that all got she can't win the
big one? Harbaugh? You know it's hard. It's hard to
(22:48):
win all these big ones. I everyone could be to
Nick David. So we'll see tomorrow. This is this is
the one of the first of maybe two, possibly three.
The loser of this will be just fine. The loser
this is going to play in the He's a Big
Ten Championship and or the College Football Playoff. But the
winner of this pretty much stamp to take it into
the college football Playoff.
Speaker 5 (23:07):
You mentioned Nick Saban Calen de Boor has taken over
plus two and a half on the road at Georgia.
We got Simpson again Stockton. Can Simpson make enough plays
against the Georgia D.
Speaker 7 (23:19):
I think it's more like can the D the other
way around? Can the Alabama D step up? Because they've
got all the NFL talent, they're not generating enough of
a pass rush. They're not. They've been okay, they haven't
really been tested since that Florida State game. Let's see
if they can they can do anything to get to
Stockton in that backfield. But look, it's been with Wisconsin
(23:41):
and it was blank and who else they blew out.
But this, all of a sudden, this is starting to
look a little bit like the Washington level Kaylen Debora offense,
where you don't have a lot of running. They give
some guys back gamos returning it, but they don't run
a lot. The defense is just sort of okay, it's
along for the ride. But the deep passing and the
(24:02):
offense that keeps moving. Because Simpson has been taking target
practice out there, he's been just lights out accurate. He
was pretty good in that Florida State game too. It
just kind of got lost in the nightmare of that game.
So I like Alabama a lot. I just think George
is going to pull this off and it's going to
be close. Because it really is crazy since these two
(24:22):
really got super good again. Georgia got super good again
doublet to the last eight starting with the second and
twenty six national championship. The seven of the last eight
of these two games between these have been like some
of the greatest games in the history of college football,
not being hyper badka bah, because we're talking in national titles.
We're all dependent on these games, and they've all pretty
(24:43):
much been fantastic. I think this one's going to be
pretty good too. And Georgia comes out way.
Speaker 3 (24:47):
See, I'm with you.
Speaker 1 (24:48):
I think Georgia wins, and I look at Alabama and
I know that. Look, if they lose this game, everybody's
going to try to find them. Okay, how much to
buy out Kaitlin to board not winning, But like, honestly,
he start he's starting to get it going at Alabama right,
Like he's not one of those guys that clearly, hey,
I go and sprinkle Ferry does in a program and
suddenly we're great. No, he took time, he built a
(25:09):
great program. Now here he is, he's building a pretty
good offense. He has the right guy at quarterback. They're
starting to put points on the board. Like I look it,
by the end of this season, I think the whole
buying out Klein de Bor is gonna be is going
to be completely in the in the rearview mirror. It's
gonna be wow, and that the next great era of
Alabama is coming because he needs some time to get
his guys in his second year taking that big step
(25:30):
up and coaching. I know it's kind of tough right
now for Alabama, but I think by the end of
this year, things are.
Speaker 3 (25:35):
Going to be really good for them.
Speaker 7 (25:37):
Yeah, you know, I'm with you. It's not like he
became a bad football coach. He's just it's it's not
like he changed anything too crazy. I mean, he did
change things up a little bit. But you can see across,
you know, across the country where you have certain coaches
who just it just didn't work for whatever reason they
came in. It was supposed to be a big splash,
you know, like Fickle at Wisconsin for example, people to
(25:58):
patch your references here, and uh, it just doesn't work
where Look, the Florida State game was kind of a
you know, it's just a flash. I think that was
a bad day. Florida State came out great, it was
week one. They're not up the speeded yet, all those
other cliches. So I'll buy into that. And if it's
a good game and a good loss, you know what,
(26:19):
it's Georgia. It's not like again, if it was the
Vanderbilt loss last year, inexcusable. That kind of a loss
is bad. If they lose to a Kentucky or someone
like that, Yeah, then you start screaming you lose to
Georgia in a good fight. Then I think he kind
of let that go and like you said, give them time.
But that is not exactly a patient lot there in Tuscaloosa.
Speaker 4 (26:40):
No, that is true. That that is an understatement.
Speaker 5 (26:45):
We talked hyperbole and then we go back to the
other I was like, ehe maybe leaving that a little low.
Speaker 4 (26:51):
Oklahoma gonna be without Materier.
Speaker 5 (26:53):
Now we're we're learning about the surgeon here in Los
Angeles that takes care of his hand. Bye week this
week then and state any outside shot we see him
back for the showdown against Texas or we going old
old starter once again.
Speaker 7 (27:09):
Yeah, it doesn't sound like it. And the problem is
you look at the rest of the Oklahoma schedule, and
it's even with Yeah, it is not fair, and that's
a you know that even with the tier it was
going to be a problem. It does not look like
he's going to be back for about a month or so.
Uh worst Heisman race ever, there's nobody out there who's
(27:32):
even remotely close and.
Speaker 4 (27:34):
Steve Angeli, it would have been Steve Angelie.
Speaker 2 (27:38):
God did that?
Speaker 7 (27:40):
Really did think? Because he was playing great?
Speaker 4 (27:44):
And now he's also a Mets fan, you know, Pete.
Speaker 7 (27:47):
So it just gets keeps getting better.
Speaker 3 (27:49):
Right.
Speaker 7 (27:50):
Uh so, here's my my, it's still early, it's not
October yet. I'm starting to formulate this belief that you
want to hear you want to have some fun, want
to hear some screaming. Again, the College Football Playoff is
gonna stay at twelve teams for the foreseeable future. Now
what we know is if you don't have ten wins
regular season wins, don't even show up to the bouncer.
(28:12):
You're not getting in unless you win your conference championships.
Give me a lot of ten win SEC teams coming.
Oklahoma's gonna lose a bunch of games. If Alabama loses
this week, they've probably still got a little less loss coming.
Look at Texas, they still have to deal with Oklahoma.
They got to go on the road to Georgia. They've
got some losses coming. Oh Miss has losses coming. Kind
(28:33):
of seeds going. You're gonna have a whole bunch at
nine and three SEC teams and a whole bunch at
ten wins, Big ten and ACC teams. And you want
to hear have some fun. How about the idea and
the thought that there's maybe two SEC teams they're gonna
have more than nine wins to get into the college
football playoffs. You want to hear the screaming and hollering
and the changes that would make for one wild offseason.
Speaker 4 (28:57):
He's on Twitter at Pete feuteg. That is at eat
futech college footballnews dot com. You're one stop shopping for

So again, major slate of college football tomorrow kicked off
tonight with the big upset Florida State going down at
(29:36):
the hands of Virginia. There are also some baseball games,
but I wasn't really paying attention. Steve Desager has more
on these games and everything else trending.
Speaker 6 (29:44):
Oh, we'll get to the Mets loss, but let's start
with football first, because yes, Virginia in double overtime beat
number eight Florida State forty six to thirty eight, and
the game on Fox TV is in the final two minutes.
In Arizona, State has a third and goal coming up
in a tie game at home against TCU, even at
twenty four all minute twenty two to play. They've just
(30:06):
started the third quarter at zero and four. Orient State
the Beavers ahead of Houston fourteen to ten. Forty nine.
Ers quarterback Brock Perty will return to play Sunday after
a tow injury, but Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels is still
out with the spring knee, and wide receiver Terry McLaurin
is out with a quad injury. WNBA semifinal wins for
Las Vegas and Phoenix stage go up two games to
(30:28):
one in best of five's. Europe leads the US at
the Ryder Cup five and a half to two and
a half. Among the late night baseball, Tanner Scott came
oh so close to blowing another save. Seattle leaves bases loaded.
Dodgers win three to two, ending the Mariners seven game
winning streak. That means that for sure the winner of
the AL East title will be the one seed in
(30:49):
the American League playoffs that start next week. Toronto holds
the tiebreaker. They are currently tied with the Yankees in
the AL standings. Each of those two teams won tonight.
The Yankee win there sixth in a row was eight
to four over Baltimore Aaron Judge with his fifty second homer,
Gencarlo Stanton two homers five RBIs the loss to Trevor
Rodgers of the Orioles, who was nine and two but
(31:11):
went three innings. Cleveland and Detroit each loss. Those two
still tied for first in the AL Central. The Guardians
hold the tiebreaker based on winning the season series. That
Detroit loss was four to three. At Boston, clinching a
postseason berth for the Red Sox, who get a run
in the seventh, one in the eighth, and one in
the ninth victories for Philadelphia and the Cubs. The Padres
(31:32):
are holding on to a six' four lead Over. Arizona
bottom of the, Eighth diamondbacks just left bases. Loaded houston
has lost led three to nothing in the fourth In,
anaheim but The angels beat him four to. Three Mike
trout with two solo, homers including the game winner in
the bottom of the. Eighth houston was a game out
of the FINAL al wildcard spot to start the. Day

Speaker 1 (32:44):
How you say in, case of, course they're gonna wind
up tide and The mets are gonna lose a.
Speaker 4 (32:48):
Tiebreaker of, course that's how it's gonna.
Speaker 6 (32:49):
Go and there's no one game playoff.
Speaker 4 (32:51):

Speaker 3 (33:00):
Inning, well you, know so it's all.
Speaker 1 (33:03):

Speaker 3 (34:57):
Weird event in that there's so much.
Speaker 4 (35:00):
Talk about The Ryder.
Speaker 1 (35:02):
Cup there's so much talk about the selections of so
much talk going into The Ryder. Cup there's so much
talk about, it yet the viewership of it ain't. Great,
right the last Three Ryder, cups you're talking about averaging
two point four million, viewers three point five million, viewers
one point three million. Viewers, Right it's one of those
events that people seem to talk a lot, about but
(35:23):
do they watch?
Speaker 4 (35:24):
It, no they.
Speaker 1 (35:24):
Don't, Right it's such a big, deal it's such a big,
guy and yet people don't watch. It AND i, go,
well of, course you, Know friday is always the big.
Day For Ryder cup because Then, saturday you're getting into
college FOOTBALL nfl On, sunday and the biggest thing is
that this event is you, know The Ryder cup has
been a. Blowout usually it's not close On. Sunday, right
the last time was really close On. Sunday you go
(35:45):
back to twenty, twelve right When europe came all the
way back At medina to win and you had like
six million. Viewers, okay if you get something, close you're
gonna get people. WATCHING i STILL i fail to understand
how In Ryder cup years when it's held in The United, states, Right,
okay because we're talking about The United, states AND i get.
It it does great across the, globe doesn't matter when
(36:07):
you do, It but when you're play in The United,
states you can't do this thing at the end Of
august when you would own the, weekend, right you can't
do it during week zero of college.
Speaker 4 (36:15):
Football, yeah all you gotta do is move it by a.
Speaker 1 (36:18):
Month AND i think with two years in between Every Rider, Cup,
okay we can you, know or four years when you're
talking about where you're having ON us soil or versus
On european, soil why don't you own the last week Of.
AUGUST i don't. UNDERSTAND i don't get why you can't do.
THAT i know, that, well you have The Open. Champs
you have like, ye, OKAY i get. It this is
The Ryder, cup, Right we're not talking about everybody packing
(36:38):
up and going to go play here and go. Play
you're talking about The Ryder, cup which which every single
golfer in the world would crawl over dead bodies to get.
Speaker 3 (36:46):
To i'll kill the people in front of. Me i'll
kill the golfer in front of me with.
Speaker 1 (36:49):
A with a with a pin or some sort of,
tea AND i will get to get to The Ryder.
Speaker 3 (36:54):
CUP i think it's okay Once, hey all, right you
know what we'll. Do we're gonna move THE.
Speaker 1 (36:58):
Us we're gonna move The Open, champ chip here or
whatever you want to, do and we're gonna be able
to have The Ryder cup when it's in The United.
Speaker 3 (37:04):
States let's just say what's here in The United.
Speaker 1 (37:05):
States let's have it during the end Of august when
it's not really competing against, anything and you'll get a
lot of, it a lot of people, watching a lot
of people caring about. It it'll get more, relevance more
people talking about. It more people talking about it means more.
EYEBALLS i don't know why they haven't made that move.
YET i know that it feels, like, well we realize
you don't want to compete with. Football you know, what
everybody knows. That everybody. Knows you're not saying something At,
(37:28):
oh you're letting a big secret out. People no one
wants to compete with, football, Right no one wants. TO
i don't know why you don't do, That, MIKE i
really do.
Speaker 5 (37:35):
Know how about absolute chaos theory that it's the rest
of the golfers and sponsors and everybody's, saying don't go
upset in The apple card for a few, guys this
just doesn't benefit us. Directly so let's not change the.
Schedule let's not move The Tour championship or THE Bmw
championship or The FedEx saint youd, know none of those.
(37:58):
Things we keep it on this. Timeline football be. Damned
but to your, point, yeah Comber heads should, Prevail like
you're trying to figure out how you get some level
of growth and and maybe it's just not the highest
of priorities that they they realize this is an event
(38:18):
or or have. DECIDED i guess that this event is
for the true golf, knicks uh and weekend duffers that
are really gonna lock down no matter what's opposite, it
and that if you pick up a couple of, folks
it is only because of like a lot of the
tour events at this, point you're only picking up an
audience if you've got a battle towards some sort of,
(38:41):
record a ridiculous run like we've seen With scheffler this last,
year plus or a couple of guys in a dead
heat on the final day and hoping That Tiger woods
was still playing for years and, Years well that's going,
Right BUT i mean that was the that was the
wish and hope for. Years like we always, talk. Hope
it's not a, strategy, Right we used it with golf
(39:03):
for many years Of, hey hoping That tiger's body holds
up for the fourth round is not a strategy for
winning over your. Audience and the same thing holds now
is for a lot of the events and for the television. Coverage,
uh you're just, hoping you, know it's close, late but
(39:24):
still even with, That, YEAH i brought it all back.
Speaker 1 (39:26):
Together, yeah but even with it being close late like a,
ARE i still don't see how you're gonna cut through
with the football On sunday like you can if you
had a different.
Speaker 3 (39:38):
Time you could probably get million.
Speaker 1 (39:40):
Viewers if you're having it at the end Of, august
when when people are when when when there's nothing else to?
Watch when it's, okay like THE nfl games are done
and college football you only have a.
Speaker 4 (39:50):
Couple of games to worry, About, LIKE i don't know
why you don't have it.
Speaker 3 (39:54):
THERE i really want to watch.
Speaker 4 (39:55):
That have it over Over Labor day weekend at.
Speaker 3 (39:58):
Least THEN nfl still not.
Speaker 1 (39:59):
Play, okay you compete with college Football, saturday But Friday
sunday you could have beginning Of september you have.
Speaker 4 (40:04):
Anything this is.
Speaker 5 (40:06):
Gonna be a rare exception to my general. RULE i
don't trust that most of the people in charge of
a lot of big things in our world know what
the hell they're. Doing that is a very grand, statement
one That i've been making for many a. YEAR i
gotta imagine that they've run the numbers a number of
times to come back to. You sure wouldn't get that
much better if we changed it. Now we're only gonna pick.
(40:28):
UP i forget, it we're not changing.
Speaker 3 (40:30):
IT i don't, know. Man, yeah golf is one of.
Speaker 1 (40:32):
Those sports where you, say, boy they could have made
all these, great much better decisions and they just.
Speaker 3 (40:37):
Didn't.
Speaker 1 (40:37):
Like, yeah of all the sports littered with bad decisions
the last twenty five, years golf is at the top
of that.
Speaker 4 (40:43):
List it's just we Have.
Speaker 3 (40:44):
Tiger we don't need anything. Else, no you kind of
change with the times and do.
Speaker 4 (40:47):
That, no, no, no, no, no we don't need to do
any stuff like. That we'll just get, yeh that's.
Speaker 5 (40:52):
Right, NO i got no problem with, that AND i
agree with you one hundred, percent but, uh you get
change is hard man changes.
Speaker 1 (41:01):
