Speaker 2 (00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (00:29):
Coming down to it NCAA tournament, a lot of conferences.
Were the officials over at the side judge, side table?
Did we see this right? Are we evaluating this correctly?
What the hell happened? Let's go to the videotape. I
feel like it's the old George Michael's sports machine. Every
time I look up, there's a conference at the side table.
Speaker 4 (00:49):
Here, Dan Well, I'll tell you what the fire's been
lit under Arizona making this a game now. There was
a point, as Mike told you, that Duke went on
a streak of making ninetheen of twenty two field goals
over a stretch. The reason they were making field goals
were not only because they were hitting threes, but they
were also just getting dunks and alley oops at the basket,
(01:09):
which makes you wonder how much fight was left in
Arizona if Duke was just easily getting to the basket.
And now Arizona at least has fought back to make
this a ball game. You mentioned the flagrant foul, but
nine point game six forty six left to go. Not
over by any means right now, but I'm surprised that
(01:30):
Arizona's fought back as well as they have in this game.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
Very odd sequenced just a couple of minutes ago in
this game where you've got a little bit of a
battling in the low block and as the Duke players
trying to get himself freed, run off a screen and
get back into the play, he's.
Speaker 5 (01:48):
Literally being held by the arm.
Speaker 3 (01:51):
They eventually tumbled to the ground and Bradley after about
a three minute review because there was a lot going on,
a lot of bodies fly into the floor whatever, like okay,
he's literally holding him out on the ground and Jean
Sterator coming over the tops like he held his arm
and never let go.
Speaker 5 (02:08):
There's what I mean.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
It's a flagrant fall. Just move over and get over.
But foul trouble starting to creep in, so these final
couple of minutes are gonna be pretty interesting. You've got
several members of each squad in the threes and fours,
and it's gotten much more physical down the stretch. Ten
point lead for Duke at the line here six thirty
three remaining, Arkansas eleven point lead on Texas Tech. You've
(02:31):
been heavily invested in this one. You've been pacing the floor,
dam fire, and you're wearing red there.
Speaker 6 (02:39):
You don't know who I'm supporting. I'm impartial.
Speaker 4 (02:41):
There is there is some there is some interest in
this game, but Texas Tech has been atrocious from three
point range.
Speaker 6 (02:48):
At some point they're going to hit a shot.
Speaker 4 (02:50):
But I think part of the reason they've been atrocious
is because of Arkansas's defense, and I think Arkansas is
also making him work on offense, and sometimes you get
tired that way. Just a question now, if Arkansas, it's
got this eleven point lead, starts to take better shots
instead of launching twenty five footers because they're not a
great shooting team. They've had games where they've shot it great.
When they were at Kentucky and in Cal's return, Arkansas
(03:12):
shot the lights out, but it's not necessarily their strength
so interested to see here on Arkansas is able to
muster enough offense up and if Texas Tech can actually
hit some shots, because again they've just been atrocious three
of twenty four from behind the arc, and again they
shot forty four of them or forty six of them
against UNC Wilmington in the first round. Not to live
(03:35):
by the three, die by the three. But right now
they're dying by it.
Speaker 5 (03:39):
Five of seven from the fall line.
Speaker 6 (03:42):
Does he You're not getting bett into the basket either.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
You're not un running possession, settling for bad shots quick possession.
We've seen a couple of pull up jump shots like
you don't have any rebounders right back, like you've got
nothing here, Like why are you pulling up behind the
three point arc to chuck the ball?
Speaker 5 (04:00):
It makes no sense.
Speaker 4 (04:01):
I got to tell you another great thing about college basketball, though,
is Texas Tech is on a seven nothing run. The
CBS graphic or the TBS graphic tells us here at
the seven to twenty mark, Mike, this game, Arkansas is
led by about eight to ten points throughout. But this
is what makes college basketball awesome is Arkansas stretched this
(04:21):
out to sixteen. So when Texas Tech gets back within nine,
where they basically wear the entire game. It's a completely
different feeling. Now they're within seven, they get another basket
at the hoops, so now they're only seven. Now they're
on a nine to nothing run under the seven minute mark.
But it's just a totally different feel when you have
that momentum. It's why that Cooper flag three was so
(04:42):
big at the end of the half because it gave
Duke momentum and we saw them extend that lead. But
that's what happens in the tournament. Some people don't believe
in it, but I do. I believe it. Momentum is
a real thing, and Texas Tech was feeling it there.
Arkansas did score to end that scoring drought, but still
we got a single digit saw lead.
Speaker 6 (05:00):
In this country, they.
Speaker 3 (05:01):
Have the ebb and flow of emotions. It's still young
players in this very competitive environment. Let's face it, some
of them are going to be looking to the next job,
as in moving on to the NBA.
Speaker 5 (05:12):
Or professional basketball. For the rest, it's I'm not in
the portal yet, but if you want to come pay me,
I gotta show out.
Speaker 3 (05:20):
So we're certainly not gonna see any lazy final minutes.
We saw that the other day, right the Yukon game,
it ends up being a two point game, and where
if you watched what happened with the total, that last
three point shot actually mattered when it was the over
under changed a lot of minutes. But it was cosmetic, right,
(05:40):
But if you're watching it, it's a nice jump shot.
It adds to the stat line, and it's like the
old Scott Boris thing. I'm gonna inundate you with stats.
Doesn't mean they're all not all stats are born of
the same, right, except if you're playing fantasy football, then
it doesn't matter as long as the final box score
says them. But how they play within games in terms
(06:01):
of evaluations has meaning.
Speaker 5 (06:04):
To a point.
Speaker 3 (06:05):
But still, if you take your points per game average
up an extra tick by making a shot late.
Speaker 5 (06:11):
All the better for you.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
We've got an eighty six seventy seven duke lead five
and change remaining, but still back to that seven point game.
Speaker 5 (06:21):
Trying to slow things down offensively.
Speaker 3 (06:24):
But we've seen with Arkansas a couple of times Dan
just at the end of a long shot clock not
getting anywhere near a good look.
Speaker 4 (06:32):
No, No, the again offense not necessarily their strengths their strength.
In this situation, you're gonna get a lot of John L. Davis,
at least for Arkansas. Well, what's interesting is, obviously the
transfer portal has been talked about so much, but when
you're talking about like familiar faces in new places, like
John L. Davis is one that we saw as a
(06:53):
member of the FAU Final four run a couple of
years ago. There are a bunch of guys from that
FAU Final four run that are scattered around the Sweet
sixteen at will Let Florida, at Michigan, and just a
lot of different names here and there. At Caleb Love
transferred from North Carolina to Arizona, part of the North
Carolina team that made it to the title game in
(07:14):
twenty twenty two. So you're talking about you got players.
While the teams may not be necessarily familiar with these roles,
these players at least have made it that far in
the tournament. So we'll see if that pays off or
a team like Arkansas, and if it pays off for
a team like Arizona that now is only trailing Duke
by seven, Caleb Love up.
Speaker 3 (07:32):
To thirty three points now on the night showing out
in a big way. Yeah, all job auditions. Do you
want your you want your nil plus right, the X
plus y that we talked about last hour. Wherever you
get your podcasts downloaded Jason Smith Show with Me, Mike Carmon,
look for the Wednesday or Thursday edition. I'm losing a
day in my calendar. Dan byer in for Jason tonight.
Speaker 4 (07:53):
If if Dukel Jon, I think everybody except Arizona Alarms
are cool with it. But my question and Mike is
if they were upset or if Arizona comes back, like,
how how much does the face of the tournament change?
Because again we're talking about a day which is, by
the way, Thursday, March twenty seventh is Mike Harmon Day.
Because the White Sox win and the Bulls beat the
(08:14):
Lakers on a buzzer beater. There's nothing better that you
could get from that. But the fact is is if
Duke does leave this tournament and Cooper Flagg would leave
this tournament again, they're winning right now by seven, But
you want to talk about this riding out the rest
of the way. Sure, you've got number one seeds left,
but I'm not sure how much Florida. I'm not sure
how much Houston brings everybody into the conversation. You need
(08:38):
those blue devils to stick around to continue to make
the final four a conversation.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
Yeah, because if they make a bigger run, perhaps we
get back to hating them a little bit because such
duke again. Yeah, so that's been lost, right, that that
edge has gone unless you're in a room with folks
that have been watching for years and then you bring
up some of those selective duke players along because remember
Zion Williamson made him fun. Yes, right, so some of
that edge and Coach K wasn't there to fingerwag at
(09:04):
you for storming the court or whatever else.
Speaker 5 (09:07):
Was gonna yell at me watching late threes? Yeah, some
some of that. How dare you shoot that?
Speaker 6 (09:12):
Shut up?
Speaker 5 (09:13):
There's still time on the.
Speaker 6 (09:14):
Here's the funny thing.
Speaker 4 (09:15):
So when Coach K like had a word with Dylan Brooks,
you're kind of like, Okay, Coach K. You know you're
Coach K, but come on, now that we know who
Dylan Brooks is, like, are we really surprised? And are
we like, yeah, Coach khad go ahead and tell him they.
Speaker 5 (09:33):
Yeah, but every villain has an origin story.
Speaker 6 (09:35):
That's true.
Speaker 3 (09:36):
Maybe that was it. It's all spurred on from the
Polish kid from Chicago.
Speaker 4 (09:42):
Don't be shooting, that's my I sounded like a robot,
not Mike Krzyzewski. Matzi could do a better impression than
I could with her lack of voice. But that would
be my coach k But maybe he saw it through
it all. He saw before any of us.
Speaker 5 (09:55):
He's a wizard. That's it.
Speaker 3 (09:57):
He saw it. He's somewhere in the tape. He went
through it. But your points are very well taken. Who
becomes the guy? I mean Arkansas? They finished the job.
These final five minutes, you get more cal Perry love.
But how much does that give juice to the tonament?
Speaker 5 (10:13):
Right?
Speaker 3 (10:14):
It's a fun talking point for you and I watching
the evolution of John Caliperry, his teams, his trials, his tribulations,
the fact that for years his only calling card was hey,
I got a lot of guys big contracts in the NBA.
Forget about the actual finishing the job with them. We
got the next guys coming in, which is why I
(10:34):
said he had a twenty year head start on this
whole nil process.
Speaker 4 (10:38):
Sure it should have been born in a different era, right,
he would have been he would have been magnificent, not
that he wasn't in what he was doing now, but
it is. It is also interesting because when you look
at Arkansas, it's not like Eric Musselman wasn't giving them
big tournament wins. It is a quick turnaround on how
people can sour or feel maybe the program isn't where
(11:01):
it is, but it is a different feeling. I mean,
Eric Musselman led Arkansas to a Sweet sixteen not too
long ago, just a couple of years ago, and Yukon
of believe in Yukon's first Actually no it wasn't, but
you let them do a Sweet sixteen run. And here
Arkansas in the Sweet sixteen again this year if they
make it to the Elite eight. This is an absolute,
(11:22):
no doubt about it. Home run higher by Arkansas, and
it's just based on the last three weeks of March.
Speaker 3 (11:30):
That's all it took, right and get him ready to
play here in physical defense, closing out shooting lanes.
Speaker 5 (11:37):
I mean, they've done a really good.
Speaker 4 (11:38):
Job and it was a home run higher on paper,
no doubt about that. But I think in the results,
and I mean Arkansas is coming in as a ten seed,
I don't think that they thought that they would be
a ten seed coming into the season. But you make
it to the Elite eight, that's all that matters.
Speaker 3 (11:52):
There you go just how fast you can turn around
one's fortune, no question about it. In a new look
college basketball era at Dan Byron Fox's where you find
and find me over at Swollen Dome. As we continue
turn our attention Major League Baseball. Open things up today
and something you and I were marinating a little bit,
going back to the idea of marquee matchups and how
(12:14):
you need to schedule or why you need to schedule things.
I think the series my team's involved with is absolutely perfect,
and we'll tell you why coming up next. But first, hey,
you know what, I've been on a journey and every
day it's a question of am I gonna have a
chocolate shake slash pudding? Yeah, it's my choice. I can
have a fluffy pancake, I go all over the place.
(12:35):
I got a lot of options, and it's because of
a plan I've been talking about with Jason here on
the show.
Speaker 5 (12:41):
We've been working at it and it's really done us
some wonders.
Speaker 3 (12:44):
Thirty five and a half pounds lost, three and a
half pounds this week.
Speaker 5 (12:49):
Working with PhD.
Speaker 3 (12:50):
Weight loss, on average, you've got men losing three to
five pounds per week.
Speaker 5 (12:55):
It's an easy program. You get your food.
Speaker 3 (12:57):
Eighty percent of your food gets provided to you as
part of the program, no extra cost, and you don't
get the cravings to go back into the kitchen and
go snooping to find those junk foods. No, no, no, this
will fill you up and get you ready with a
protein packed guide to get you going. PhD clients lose fat,
not muscle. Huge, I'm gonna be ripped in no time.
(13:18):
Flat WrestleMania. Look out how they charge the ring hose epic.
Two thirds of the weight loss is muscle. Here, you're
losing fat and you have no negative side effects.
Speaker 5 (13:27):
You're accountable.
Speaker 3 (13:28):
You're talking to a nutritionness once a week, going through
your highs and lows, where you're at mentally, how you're performing,
Like what your favorites are right cause you're gonna get
more of it the next time you get your food order.
Speaker 5 (13:40):
But also how do you go out to restaurants. They're
gonna guide you through.
Speaker 3 (13:43):
They give you your your phone numbers saying hey, I'm
gonna head out to this place. Theyn't find the menu online,
or call them and help you get through the process,
saying hey, this works with what you're trying to do
and what you've shown us. You like all of it
over the phone once weekly, you learn to eat for
you. You get a plan customizing, you tinker with it as
you talk to your nutritionists about what you like and
(14:03):
where you want to go. And again, the food's interchangeable.
You want to eat the soup for breakfast, eat the
super breakfast, you want to putting for breakfast, head that
and move it all along. So here's the limited offer,
which is what we need to do for all our listeners,
all our friends of the show. Mention Jason Remike of
Fox Sports, you get two weeks added to your weight
loss program when you fully commit to things, fifteen percent
(14:24):
off the weight loss program, fifteen percent off your energy
supplement bundle, and your programs back by this get this PhDs,
get results or get your money back guarantee. So here's
your call to actually get after an eight six four
five oh two one seven seven seven. That's eight six
four five oh two one seven seven seven myphdeweight loss
dot com. That's my phdweight loss dot com.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 3 (15:01):
Welcome back in Fox Sports Radio, Jason Smith's Show with Me,
Mike Carbon, Dan Byer and I riding the lightning, pacing
like cats. As we're watching the final throws of these games,
it's our executive producer, Justin Frosper goes, Hey, paint that
blank canvas, and I'm like, at this point, there's so
much going on and so much going through my brain.
(15:23):
It's gonna look like a Jackson Pollock painting, which is
just a bunch of splotches that you have to decide
what the hell I meant?
Speaker 4 (15:29):
Well, that maybe Arkansas at the free throw line, because
right now they're in a bonus situation, up three with
twenty eight seconds left, Mike and Jonas Adu is on
the line. He's a sixty two percent free throw shooter
in a one in one situation, so they have a
three point lead, but again one in one needs to
make the first. Duke is up six, trying to run
(15:49):
out the clock with thirty seconds left.
Speaker 3 (15:51):
Arizona had a chance in the final minute, there was
a mishot ball bounced around and eventually one extra fingertip
taps it back out to the duke play for another possession,
so able to run some clock, and now we get
into the how much can you extend this game.
Speaker 5 (16:06):
For Arkansas and Texas Tech. One of the things we
saw dan.
Speaker 3 (16:09):
Huge rebound by arkansaw and then you saw the Texas
Tech player come from the backside to go to try
to tie him up. It was the quickest jump ball
I think I've ever seen in any level of organized.
Speaker 6 (16:24):
Sport, and John L.
Speaker 4 (16:25):
Davis is the one that got the rebound on it
and gave possession to Texas Tech, which then they hit
a three on the inbounds play. But if it's a
follow there, you're putting Davis on the free throw line,
who hasn't missed tonight from the charity stripe, and instead
they get the three, and then when they end up
do fouling what ends up happening You put a sixty
two percent free throw shooter on the line.
Speaker 3 (16:48):
So we saw, and they're reviewing now a situation whereby
the game clock did not run for several seconds.
Speaker 6 (16:57):
After the missed free throw.
Speaker 3 (16:58):
After a miss free throw, ball is rebounded, brought up
the court, and now it's the adjudicating this because you
get the ball up to mid court before the clock
begins to run.
Speaker 4 (17:13):
And we're not talking about a shot clock situation here
because it's under thirty seconds, so there is no shot clock,
but still a game clock in a seventy two to
sixty nine game, arkansaw right now the next if they
would commit a foul on Texas Tech, Texas Tech would
get two free throws.
Speaker 6 (17:30):
The reason you say that is obviously up three, you foul,
but you just have to do.
Speaker 4 (17:36):
It in a scenario where usually it's under ten seconds.
Up three is when you would want to foul Arkansas
right now in a bonus situation, as we saw that
they missed. Actually you don't even to take that back.
Texas Tech would be in a bonus situation. Arkansas would
be in the double bonus if they ended up getting
(17:58):
possession at Texas Tech would foul if that file would
have been called.
Speaker 3 (18:01):
Right, so, you know, we start looking at you know,
these final seconds, every bit of them grind it out.
That's why we get into gamesmanship and extending as best
we can just like they're doing Duke Arizona ninety six
ninety both.
Speaker 5 (18:16):
In the double bonus. It's duke ball.
Speaker 3 (18:19):
And just the fact that we're getting two thrillers after
the first weekend and so many lopsided like even if
the you know the old Hey, the score does not
indicate how this game was played. I referenced the Yukon
final the other day. Becomes a two point finish, But
we're talking, all right, just take the shot, you know,
those kind of possessions at the end of a game.
Speaker 5 (18:41):
Here, we got great tension and anxiety across the college
basketball universe.
Speaker 4 (18:45):
Cooper Flags are gonna get two free throws up six
with eighteen seconds to go to pretty much seal the
deal again with Arkansas Texas Tech. I expect Texas Tech
to try to go quick. You could get a two
here and put Arkansas on the free throw on again,
they'd be in the double bonus. But still as long
as it's not Genal Davis on the free throw line, right,
he's eleven on the night, So at Texas Tech just
ties it.
Speaker 3 (19:06):
They tie it with nine point seven seconds remaining. Arkansas
ball after a timeout.
Speaker 4 (19:14):
Darien Williams, who was had a rough rough night shooting
the ball, and that is an understatement, gets one to
go down again.
Speaker 6 (19:25):
You're sitting there.
Speaker 4 (19:26):
You can't foll in the situation of he gets a
pass to him out on the wing.
Speaker 6 (19:32):
You're not going to fole in that scenario.
Speaker 3 (19:34):
But gosh, seven of twenty four on the night, now
two of ten from three point rain. This is for
the trip to the Elite eight. This was the king
making once again of Caliperi. And in the final minutes here,
you know a lot of the anxieties.
Speaker 4 (19:51):
Yeah, their defense lets them down in that scenario, allowing.
Speaker 6 (19:55):
Texas Tech in Texas Tech.
Speaker 4 (19:56):
I was surprised, Mike because even though Arkansaw was in
the double bonus, in that scenario, you get a quick two,
you're only down one. Make them go to the free
throw line, and then who knows what happens. But they
were going for the three the whole time. It's they
have shot a lot of threes this year. They've got
four or five different shooters when they're completely healthy, that
(20:17):
can shoot the ball, Darren Williams obviously being one of them,
and Arkansas just didn't defend it, didn't get out on
Williams enough. And now we've got drum. Now it's gonna
be off to cal Perry's offense to be able to
get this done in nine point seven seconds.
Speaker 6 (20:33):
The interesting thing is.
Speaker 4 (20:35):
Here, I think there I would assume that Arkansas called
time out, but it looked like Arkansas was trying to
get the ball across half court to call a timeout. Yes,
there's obviously no advance in college basketball, but Texas Tech
I think used the timeout after the three to set
up their defense and what they want to do.
Speaker 3 (20:53):
Seventy two to all, nine point seven over at the
score desk, the official review of the play, we're trying
to say that he stepped on a line.
Speaker 6 (21:03):
Well, that's interesting, right, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (21:05):
Obviously we're in the Fox Sports radio studios. We don't
have audio, so trying to pick up what's going on.
Speaker 6 (21:11):
I think they're just looking at as.
Speaker 3 (21:13):
Well beyond the arcs Now, it's are we we trying
to parse portions of seconds?
Speaker 6 (21:19):
I guess yes. I think that's where they're at.
Speaker 4 (21:22):
And and I believe the official that was by the
Texas Tech bench. I think Texas Tech called time out
there at that point. So Arkansas has their time out
remaining if they need it.
Speaker 3 (21:34):
Chaos in the final minutes of the first day of
the next weekend.
Speaker 5 (21:39):
It's a hell of a way to recapture.
Speaker 3 (21:41):
The headlines from Major League Baseball and and some what
else is going on. I mean, I haven't talked about
that Bulls buzzer beater in free No, it seems like
a lifetime ago with what's going on in these games,
because Arizona putting up a hell of a fight against
Duke in this one. Before you know, we finally get
to they succumb one hundred ninety three your final they
(22:04):
do get to the century mark. After the official review,
we're going to get back to play here in bounding
the ball, trying to find their way up the court,
we get a little bit of a pressure.
Speaker 4 (22:19):
Yeah, DJ Wagner is the one that has the ball,
and I'm sure they're just trying to keep it out
of the hands of.
Speaker 6 (22:24):
Of of John L.
Speaker 4 (22:26):
Davis and Wagner's shot Mike off the mark.
Speaker 3 (22:31):
Shot is off, put back off. We're going overtime, Dan
Barr and.
Speaker 5 (22:37):
Seventy.
Speaker 4 (22:39):
We can't do the play by play of it, but
it was it was a shot.
Speaker 6 (22:44):
I don't know if it was the best shot.
Speaker 4 (22:47):
I will give Texas Tech credit that nobody left their
man to leave anybody open. Yeah, but John L. Davis
did not touch the ball in that final ten seconds.
Speaker 5 (22:55):
He's got thirty points y.
Speaker 6 (22:56):
Yeah, so.
Speaker 3 (22:58):
Interesting strategy in the final waning moments there for John Caliperi.
We'll keep you apprized of what's going on as we
get ready for overtime. Absolute insanity. Earlier tonight, a couple
of games that didn't give us quite the drama, didn't
give us the same emotions and feels all the way through. Look,
(23:20):
a lot of brackets attacks. So folks that were waiting
on Duke to finish the job, they had more anxiety
I think in that game than they anticipated. Yeah, right,
certainly after the huge run the nineteen of twenty two
and then the eleven for thirteen later, you know, as
you start moving that and shifting where you're marking the
(23:41):
time space. But Arizona puts up a good fight. I'll
still have four hours of Arnie Spaniard complaining tomorrow.
Speaker 6 (23:49):
Looking ahead, looking ahead the next year.
Speaker 4 (23:52):
Oh what could have been coming out of halftime the
end of the first half, the beginning of the second
half was an absolute killer for Arizona.
Speaker 6 (24:00):
Kudos to them.
Speaker 4 (24:01):
For fighting back as much as they did to make
it this what closest six I believe, at least here
in the second half, but Duke looked like they were
about to run away with it. And Duke is just
showing time and time again, whether it be the ACC
Tournament or the NCUBLEA Tournament again, why they were the
number one ranked team and the eight people entering this
tournament and the second number.
Speaker 6 (24:22):
One overall seed.
Speaker 4 (24:23):
I thought they should have gotten the number one overall seed, Mike,
just because they beat Auburn earlier this year. Right, Auburn's
resume of quad win wins was overwhelming and they were
given the number one overall seed. But Duke had every
right to it and are showing it. And right now
the graphic up first overtime game of this NC DOUBLEA tournament,
Well there you go.
Speaker 3 (24:42):
We're getting late heroics and now we get an overtime
in so you know, we're getting a little veritable potpourri
here on a Thursday night. It's free basketball deep into
the night. You were waiting for some in some of
these other other games falling short. But look, expectations, I
think for this weekend that we were going to get
(25:04):
a bunch of big games right coming out of the
no Cinderella and all the lamentation that Cinderella wasn't showing
up at the ball, I argued yesterday, she's a rarity,
so expecting her to come walking through the door every time,
how does it happen? And in the end we get
top seeded teams playing competitive basketball for forty minutes.
Speaker 4 (25:24):
And I know this may be a little crass, but
maybe Cinderella is only good for a one night stand
because we only want to the one the first round
and then nobody wants Cinderella after that. Is that too crass? Manzi?
Is that Mary Mack? She's the grass?
Speaker 6 (25:40):
I mean, just that's it.
Speaker 3 (25:41):
Sometimes you gotta get down to brass tacks. Yeah, I mean,
and call it what it is, Mancy.
Speaker 6 (25:46):
You want to know.
Speaker 7 (25:47):
I enjoyed it.
Speaker 8 (25:48):
It's just Cinderella is such a classy lady, so you know, yeah.
Speaker 3 (25:50):
That's crazy cinemax back in the day. Yes, there was
a whole other series. Right, I'm sure that's all you
got to do is take that seat and changed that
first letter.
Speaker 7 (26:05):
Maybe if we were talking about the U step sister, but.
Speaker 6 (26:11):
Talking to basketball terms as well, we weren't talking.
Speaker 8 (26:13):
But what are their names?
Speaker 7 (26:14):
Drisella and and Stasia?
Speaker 3 (26:18):
But tell me you didn't love the Cinderella Rogers and
Hammerstein's with Brandy and.
Speaker 5 (26:24):
That one.
Speaker 8 (26:27):
You're girls night, we'll watch it.
Speaker 7 (26:29):
I'm just saying, how the heck you got an Asian?
Isn't that like that's he's a prince?
Speaker 5 (26:33):
Right, Yes, that's Riccardo Malton.
Speaker 7 (26:35):
And then isn't the sister? I don't know, I see
it was suspend reality.
Speaker 5 (26:40):
It's the boy.
Speaker 7 (26:41):
To me, it's the whole boy, and it makes sense
to me.
Speaker 5 (26:43):
Yeah, took the rats and made them horses for crying
out loud.
Speaker 7 (26:48):
And you all call Cinderella and one one night sister girl.
You know she's not a one night girl. She doesn't
seem like.
Speaker 6 (26:56):
It's going to be.
Speaker 4 (26:58):
But then talking about the tournament, we love Cinderella. The
first round of the NCAA tournament, I left.
Speaker 8 (27:03):
Just because of the irony of the Cinderella princess.
Speaker 7 (27:06):
Yeah you know, and that's why I left.
Speaker 5 (27:07):
Been waiting all your life for that one, for that
one shining moment. Hey look what I did there. He's
Dan byre At dan Byron Fox.
Speaker 3 (27:16):
I'm Mike Overhead Swollen Doome, Jason Smith, Joe and Mike
Harmon Jason off the rest of the week.
Speaker 5 (27:22):
That got a little sideways.
Speaker 6 (27:23):
I like that.
Speaker 5 (27:24):
That was a good to that with you.
Speaker 4 (27:25):
I like that I in looking at what's happening now,
it can distract you from what Arkansas is going to
have to deal with because uh, Texas Tech had a
goaltending call, so they took their first lead of the
game in overtime since five to three in this matchup.
Speaker 6 (27:39):
But because John L.
Speaker 4 (27:40):
Davis has had to do so much for Arkansas, you
wonder how much the other guys from Arkansas are in
the game offensively. I think it's going to be difficult
for Arkansas to try to get enough offense here. Momentums
clearly on the least side of Texas.
Speaker 9 (27:53):
Tach Sure finished down the final six to seven minutes,
but man, I mean, if Cal doesn't get this done, man,
the Kentucky fans are going to be coming out of
the woodwork.
Speaker 4 (28:04):
Everybody's going to be coming, you know, and trashing this
collapse at the end because they were up double digits.
Speaker 3 (28:10):
When we get a picture of picture with Rick Patinam
wherever he is right now, because we know there's no
love loss there, Dan, Why don't we pause for a second,
take a deep breath, and.
Speaker 5 (28:20):
Let Monsey do her thing.
Speaker 3 (28:22):
This is Manzi Belgios with everything going on in our
sporting universe.
Speaker 10 (28:25):
Yes, this game that went into over time about three
and thirty four seconds to go ish between ten seed
Arkansas and three seed Texas Tech. Arkansas is currently up
seventy six to seventy four out of the West Region.
Whoever wins this one is going to face one seed Florida.
They took down four seed Maryland earlier today eighty seven
(28:46):
to seventy one. Cooper Flagg had thirty points, six rebounds,
seven assists, and Duke heldon to defeat Arizona one hundred.
Speaker 8 (28:55):
To ninety three. This was a four to one seed matchup.
This was out of the East Region.
Speaker 10 (28:59):
Now, wow, Cooper, Flag and Duke are gonna face two
seat Alabama in the next round. Mark Steers led the
way for Alabama earlier today thirty four points and eight
assists as they cruise pass six seed BYU won thirteen
to eighty eight. We'll check in on baseball, guys. One
game is still going on, and yes, the Cubs are
still on top. Of the Diamondbacks in Arizona eight to
five top of the eighth inning. The other game that
(29:21):
just wrapped up, it was the Mariners outscoring the A's
four to two was the final score.
Speaker 8 (29:26):
The Dodgers edged the Tigers five to four in La.
Speaker 10 (29:29):
Show Heyo Tawny with his first homer in LA, while
the Padres beat the Braves seven to four.
Speaker 8 (29:35):
We'll move on to the NBA. The final game has
wrapped up and.
Speaker 10 (29:38):
It was the Kings who took down the Trailblazers one
twenty eight to one oh seven, but the Bulls walked
it off with the logo shot from Josh Getty to
edge Lakers one nineteen to one seventeen.
Speaker 8 (29:47):
Get He ended with the triple double in the win.
Twenty five, fourteen and eleven.
Speaker 10 (29:51):
The thunder have reached a new franchise record sixty one
wins after taking down the Grizzlies one twenty five to
one oh four.
Speaker 8 (29:58):
Still no Ja Morant for Memphis.
Speaker 10 (30:00):
The Rockets had a one twenty one to one ten
win over the Jazz and the Heat took down the
Hawks one twenty.
Speaker 8 (30:05):
Two to one twelve. Tyler Hero dropped thirty six points
in the win.
Speaker 10 (30:09):
Back to the game between Arkansas and Texas Tech, still
tied at seventy seven to and a half minutes to
go back to you guys.
Speaker 5 (30:15):
Thanks so much.
Speaker 3 (30:16):
Monsi at Monzy Milanias where you find her on Twitter.
Here on Sunday afternoons. Here on Fox Sports Radio, Dan Meyer,
Mike Rman here with you. We're gonna stay with this
Texas Tech Arkansas game, two thirty seven remaining. Carter Knox
at the free throw line, eighty percent shooter for the season,
so perhaps a little more surety in this space.
Speaker 4 (30:38):
Yes, And I'll tell you what, They're never easy though,
No two thirty left to go in overtime. Texas Tech
with all the momentum, and at some point they were
going to start to make threes, and they did down
the stretch. And I'll tell you the run that they
put on Arkansas. They gets some bad shots on offense
and it ends up where they now have to play
(31:00):
in overtime in this contest. But I think if Arkansas
loses this game, you're obviously going to go back to
the five minutes. So again, you were up double digits
in this game and let Texas Tech hang around. They
were up three with twenty seconds left, which allowed Texas
Tech to get the three off at that point, and
I think Arkansas there are about five or six different
(31:20):
plays that Arkansas fans are going to look at and
wish went another way.
Speaker 5 (31:25):
Well, we just got to go back philosophically.
Speaker 3 (31:27):
I hate to keep Patino has been on vacation for
several days, sure, but go back to his final five minutes.
Something you and I discussed on our show Sunday morning
about the strategy not going inside when you had foul
trouble and perhaps an opportunity to file out some of
the big men from Arkansas and instead you're still settling
(31:47):
for jump shot. We were asking some of the same
from Caliperi in terms of all right, offensive possessions. Yes,
you want to run clock, but you still need to
run a full possession, not do a lot of ball watching,
which is what we would see, and then the shot
clock would get inside five and it's like, oh, I've
got to make a move. So you're taking an odd
angle baseline shot or getting contested you know at eight
(32:11):
feet yeah, where you've got several shooters, but you're still
gonna take the shot. So with no rebounders underneath, like
some very curious end of possession timing.
Speaker 4 (32:21):
It's stuff that you never would see in the NBA,
and that's part of the greatness of college basketball. But yeah,
you to your point, Mike. You sit there, you work clock,
you work clock, and then you're like, okay, we work clock.
Speaker 7 (32:34):
Now what do I do?
Speaker 5 (32:35):
This is all that I know. The guys stop moving. Yeah,
five seconds left. You, I guess you're gonna have to
do something. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (32:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (32:42):
And now the Tech in Arkansas going back and forth,
and I just Texas Tech is a better offensive team
coming into this game. They haven't been great offensively tonight,
and I know I keep hammering that point, but it's
just the fact that I just think that they're better
suited in this overtime if it isn't John l Dat
being able to score. And the Texas Tech defense has
(33:03):
done a pretty good job on Davis, and I wonder
how tired he is as well. It doesn't seem like
he's getting tons and tons of lift as he's adding
a couple of his shots blocked as he's getting to
the basket. And then you wonder who else could he
score for Arkansas in these situations?
Speaker 3 (33:16):
Yeah, up to thirty on the night You've got Knox
has twenty. He's four to four from three point range,
but beyond that, not a lot of contribution. Only three
points off the bench.
Speaker 6 (33:26):
Yeah, not good at all. And now Texas Tech is up.
Speaker 3 (33:30):
Three one thirty four remaining Texas Tech up three eighty
one seventy eight.
Speaker 5 (33:37):
We're going to keep on this game as we.
Speaker 3 (33:39):

Speaker 5 (34:41):
He's in for Jason Smith tonight and Dan over time.
Speaker 3 (34:47):
Once again, we're questioning possessions, time down, distance, timeout usage.
One hell of a shot, but Texas Tech eighty five,
eighty three your final, A little long, one last ditch
possession for Arkansas can't find the bottom of the net,
(35:09):
and it's a final.
Speaker 5 (35:10):
The Red Raiders survive in advance to the Elite eight.
Speaker 4 (35:13):
And continue the chalk of this tournament because Arkansas was
the only double digit seed that was still remaining in
this even if they were from a Power five conference
and had one of the better coaches that we've seen
in college basketball history on their bench. A collapse, an
enormous collapse for Arkansas, and this happens. This is what
(35:34):
makes the tournament great. And Texas Tech fans are going crazy.
And here Darien Williams, a guy who's inside an outside guy,
couldn't throw it into the ocean.
Speaker 6 (35:44):
Earlier in this game.
Speaker 5 (35:45):
He was struggling mightily.
Speaker 4 (35:46):
It's the huge three to tie it at the end
of regulation, and then gets the huge bucket to give
Texas Tech to lead late. I don't want to pile
on college kids, Mike, but DJ Wagner would not the
best offensive option for Arkansas in this game. He wasn't
the second best offensive option for Arkansas in this game.
(36:07):
And somehow he had the ball in his hands and
ended up taking the shot that was at the end
of regulation when it was tied, and ended up taking
a fallaway eighteen footer off balance as time expired. Johnald
Davis never touched the ball. Arkansas couldn't get into the
hands of the playmakers that they needed to, and they're
going home for it.
Speaker 3 (36:28):
Crazy finish once again, as we were trying to watch
it talk about it real time as it's developing sixteen
point lead with ten twenty three remaining.
Speaker 5 (36:39):
In the game. I believe that operates. Here's the rant.
Speaker 3 (36:42):
You know the stat right, it's the second largest comeback
in the Sweet sixteen at this point, Like we didn't
have the audio up, I have not seen any place
that's telling me what the largest was. So we'll keep
effort sure, as we go. But a stat that did
just come down. This comes off of ESPN's Twitter account.
With this comeback, John Calipari was thirty five and oh
(37:04):
in his NCAA tournament career when leading by six or
more points at halftime. Wow, and one of that sample size.
So oh, yeah, well we have to hear how this ended.
We've got the sound. Let's turn that around, defend, and
now it's Darian Williams. Just so you walk Knox, we
(37:26):
pick him up. Williams clarkscrews up, hop in town.
Speaker 7 (37:32):
It's up two point lead, final.
Speaker 1 (37:34):
Seconds, leadner whipping, driving on Hawkins firing.
Speaker 2 (37:41):
Texas took us down.
Speaker 3 (37:46):
Kevin Harlan CBS, I was waiting for one more bare chested,
that guy's drunk.
Speaker 5 (37:53):
He's my favorite. But yeah, just a huge call.
Speaker 3 (37:57):
I mean you can almost feel him rising in his
seat and idle possession as the ball goes up. But again,
a couple of shots that as.
Speaker 5 (38:04):
You're going, was that the best possession you could get?
Speaker 3 (38:08):
Right, You're looking at timeout, situation, space on the court,
how you're utilizing those final seconds, and then in both
regulation and in ot shots, that was one more pass
instead of stopping the ball.
Speaker 5 (38:23):
And dribbling it.
Speaker 3 (38:24):
Yes, is there one more open look that you might
have gotten or was it by design? All right, they're
gonna double up on the other side, so it's.
Speaker 4 (38:33):
All you Arkansas at that time out. Yeah, they could
have called the timeout with seven seconds left. Cal did
not have did not look like he was attempting to
call timeout in that scenario, and so DJ Wagner ended
up taking again both shots. I don't think that he
was option A for Arkansas, and now they're adding all
but I'll say this, I think a lot of the
(38:55):
country was probably cheering for Texas Tech because they weren't
viewing Arkansas as a true said or a Cinderella. It
does prevent the left side of the bracket being all SEC,
which could have happened if Auburn and Ole Miss win tomorrow,
you would have had Auburn, Ole Miss Florida and Arkansas
guaranteeing that an.
Speaker 6 (39:12):
SEC school got to the championship game.
Speaker 4 (39:15):
You know one's going to be in the Elite eight
in the Midwest region because Tennessee and Kentucky play. Alabama
is already there. In the East region, they're gonna end
up facing Duke coming up on Saturday, but an SEC
team went down, and maybe.
Speaker 6 (39:27):
That's what America was excited about.
Speaker 5 (39:28):
Now there's always a little bit of that.
Speaker 3 (39:30):
Greg sank he was on with Dan Patrick this morning
talking about the continued growth, evolution, redistribution of wealth across
the college landscape.
Speaker 5 (39:41):
Obviously, you know peacocky a little bit for the number.
Speaker 3 (39:44):
Of SEC teams still out there, but it became a
you got tired of the SEC look. I used to
work with a guy here that that's all he talked
about on Sunday mornings. Now he works and he's one
of the anchors, Hi Peter over at the SEC Network.
But it's been a football conference forever. I was like, oh, wait,
we do this over here now too, Not that they didn't, Right,
(40:07):
it's littered with Final four teams and champions. But when
you push all of this weight into the tournament, fourteen
teams getting in so many what seven advancing to hear, yeah,
that it becomes overweighted. So you become the villain, right,
we were talking about trying to find a villain and
something to hate watch. Perhaps there's some portion of the country,
(40:29):
not only Big ten fans and those remaining in the tournament,
but maybe those that don't have a dog in the fight,
just saying anybody but them.
Speaker 4 (40:37):
I'll tell you, the SEC and Big Ten are these
two rising powers. I just don't think there's as much
disdain for the Big Ten. And maybe it's because of
the lack of victory, especially in college basketball that haven't
had a national championship since Michigan State won in two thousand.
Speaker 6 (40:55):
So I mean, yeah, there's the SEC chance. I'll tell
you what. They have every reason to chant and have
those chants.
Speaker 4 (41:03):
When Florida was winning NCAA titles, you would hear it,
whether it be in football or basketball. But yeah, I'm
not sure how much the rest of the country really
hates seeing Arkansas go down.
Speaker 6 (41:14):
In Texas Tech advance, well.
Speaker 3 (41:15):
It becomes the we started fall in love with Caliperi again.
Now we say, well, when it came time to it,
he couldn't win the big one.
Speaker 5 (41:22):
Yes, he couldn't coach in the final minutes Texas Tech.
Speaker 3 (41:25):
According to Yahoo, twenty five percent of brackets had them
going to the Elite eight. Mmmm, is that we talk
about the sure parody in that part of the bracket.
He's Dan, I'm Mike as to continue. We look at
these four games in totality.
Speaker 5 (41:40):
What to expect,
