(00:50):
buying should be. Game of the Night In the NBA
Game of the Week, Luca Dongicic's first game against the Mavericks.
Eight minutes to go in the fourth quarter and the
Evericks aren't going away. Kyrie Irving's got twenty seven, Klay
Thompson now has nineteen. The Lakers with a three point
lead eighty eight, eighty five. It's been a big night

(01:12):
for Luka Doncic, who was one assist shy of a
triple double, seventeen points, fifteen rebounds, nine assists. Meanwhile, Lebron
James starting to really take over here in the fourth quarter,
seventeen points, nine rebounds, a couple of assists. And you know,
we talk a lot defensively about the Lakers, right, We
talked a lot about them, And that's been a conversation
last few nights. And oh boy, hey, all the conversations

(01:34):
you were today all over at radio and TV about
how good the Lakers defense is. Hmmm, no one talked
about that until we did last night. Now, hey, again,
at the end of our careers, people are gonna owe
us money. But the one thing offensively that I can
see them kind of getting into a rhythm with tonight
is relying on Luca for so much. Right, Luca is

(01:55):
the guy that you know he's gonna be the star
of the next ten years. Now, Lebron's not just gonna
give it up up and say, Okay, Luca, it's your time.
But I can see Lebron in the regular season because
the playoffs are going to be Lebron time. We talked
about this when they made the trade. But in the playoffs, Okay,
that's great, Luca, this could be your team. Everything is great.
But when the playoffs come and we're playing and we're
in the conference semis of the conference finals, is my

(02:17):
team because this is my legacy and it's about and
it's about my time, right, So it's my team. But
for the rest of the season, for the regular season,
I can see Lebron saying, Okay, time for me to
dial it back a bit, where I pick my spots
to take over a game, and I will be fresher
in the fourth quarter and fresher down the stretch. Then

(02:37):
I would be as I did earlier this season, where
I had to carry the team at times in the
first quarter, in the second quarter because nobody else was
playing well and we were out of the gate and
I had to create and dish. What do we see tonight?
Luca carried the Lakers for the first half, right, first
eight minutes. He was nine, seven to three. So it
was a big first half for Luca. And now here's
Lebron in the fourth quarter, who I think has scored

(02:59):
the Lakers last eight points. Just got a big assist
from Luca. Now to give him the triple double, and
it is a ninety one to ninety one game. But
Lebron is just up and down the floor, give me
the basketball, and he looks refreshed and energized for the
rest of the fourth quarter. There's no I need some time.
I need a couple of possessions where he takes some
time off the clock. I gotta get my rest that

(03:20):
I normally get. He has been really motivated and that's
a big thing for this Laker offense. If you can
run it through Luca, Lebron can pick his spots now
where maybe it's like three or four times during a
game where he spends a few minutes taking over, and
that would really lend into keeping him fresher for the
rest of the season.

Speaker 3 (03:36):
Yeah. I mean Lebron also looks like he's taking this
game more personally than Luca, Like he's elbowing guys like
it's going on a style.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
I think he broke Exham's face.

Speaker 3 (03:44):
Yeah, he went down like a heap said, oh my god,
man to help him off to the to the locker room,
never to be seen again. You got Kyrie Irving rolling around.
He's got a bruise face. You've seen a couple of
times he's driven to the basket with he's got the
ball and he's dribbling with one arm and with the
other he's elbowing.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
The guy out of the way.

Speaker 3 (04:01):
Push like what the hell man like man possessed going through.
But all all that to say, yeah, it's just as
long as those guys can co as exist.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
Right, how can I win if you win? Oh?

Speaker 3 (04:14):
Yeah, right, that's the tail of the playoffs, right, how
can I win?

Speaker 1 (04:18):
You win?

Speaker 3 (04:18):
We get into series and we start talking about matching
up defensively on in a series versus.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
A one off game. But either way, you know, you
watch them up and down.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
Play Jackson Hayes filling the lane and getting some easy
buckets along the way, and defensively closing out and recovering
from what was a dismal, miserable third quarter shooting the basketball. Hey,
guess what, we're not hitting shots. You know what's a
good strategy. Take the ball to the rim? Yeah, give
it to Lebron. In the fourth game, Theren Gafford's not there,

(04:51):
Hey there's something there. Maybe we could go inside.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
That's your advice, coach, Yes, go get them all right,
let's go So again, we'll have more on this game
about six minutes left to go, tied at ninety one.
It's basically been Kyrie and Clay against Luca and Lebron
like it's NBA jam. The last few minutes we get
that pixelated shirt going, let's go. But I am here
now to pour cold water and tell you about one

(05:15):
story line in the off season of the NFL the
last few weeks that's been an absolute lie.

Speaker 4 (05:19):
Lies.

Speaker 1 (05:20):
There is proof of it today, lieute lie. Aaron Glenn
met the media today, head coach of the New York Jets,
and talking about a lot of different things. Jets go
into this offseason looking for a quarterback because they told
Aaron Rodgers, we don't want you anymore, and he wanted
to make sure that everybody knew that, Hey, we have

(05:44):
a plan. We're trying to win right now, there's no plan.
I hope he's right. Hope he's telling the truth and
not saying we know we're gonna sting for like three years.

Speaker 3 (05:51):
Well, especially when all his players have gone every chance
they can't to go what the hell are we doing?

Speaker 1 (05:57):
So I like the fact that he says the plan
is to I don't know who that matches the mystery
quarterback is. But hey, that has somebody in mind. Well,
he wanted to make sure he told her. But he
understood that the decision to move on from Aaron Rodgers
was a very difficult one that has a lot of
players upset. There's only one Aaron around here that matters,
and that's me. Wow, he was really Aaron Rodgers. It

(06:20):
doesn't matter now. He has a hard ass. Like you're talking,
he's a real hard ass. Aaron Glenn. The whole room
for two Aarons? Right? Why what do you sound like
the Rock when you're doing there's no room for two? Eric.
If you're gonna get in character, man, you got you.
You can't half asst man. You want to be the
final boss.

Speaker 4 (06:39):
You gotta go for it.

Speaker 1 (06:40):
Yeah, thoughts out to the rock. By the way, he
lost his dog, Yeah he did. Oh boy, no, was
eleven or twelve years old or something like that. Yeah,
I did not see that long time dog. Uh So,
Aaron Glenn goes on to say, today, hey, listen, I
understand that you can smell what I'm cooking, and some

(07:00):
players still need some convincing about what the plan is
going forward. I understand the reaction of the players.

Speaker 5 (07:08):
But I will say this, every decision that men moves
make is to win and to win now, so I
understand it. But again, listen, that's not gonna be the
last decision I made, right. That's that's gonna upset some people,
and that's okay, right, But as men, we talk about it,
we make sure we keep it in the house that
we're gonna continue to do.

Speaker 1 (07:26):
I love Aaron Glenn. This really of our last two
years that nothing has gone right. Hiring Aaron Glenn was
the right move. I mean, he's the right guy. Again,
he's a hard ass. He wanted this job. I can't
say enough good things that this is working. But he
has poured cold water on the on the biggest lie
of a storyline of the last weeks, and that is
that Aaron Rodgers was a cancer in the locker room.

(07:49):
Everybody hated him. They had to get rid of him.
He was a big distraction. Clearly that's not the case
when you have players like Quentin Williams putting the thumbs
down emoji on social media and they said that Aaron
Rodgers they're going to move on from his quarterback and
he's the look, he's a guy that they expect to
continue to be a Pro Bowl player for the next
five years. There's a lot of players who were mad,

(08:10):
and basically the team is mad that, well, what's our
planet quarterback? Because Rogers did play well the last few games.
It was good for us. Now what do we do?
Just the fact by your seeing that reaction tells you
that Rogers was not a cancer. There was no disharmony
in the locker room. Nobody was really doing cartwheels when
he when he when they said they were moving on

(08:32):
from him. If there was, we would have known that.
We would have heard that by now. We would have
heard it if that was the case in Green Bay,
because it's been been gone from there for two years.
But did we get all these crazy stories about hey Aaron,
was this this? This is in Green Bay?

Speaker 4 (08:45):
No?

Speaker 1 (08:45):
So you know, in the locker room, Aaron Rodgers was beloved.
They loved him there, They loved him with the Jets.
Did it work out? No, and and and and that,
and that's something that Aaron Rodgers has to wear. And
I get it. But this soul, Aaron Rodgers is a
bad guy storyline locker. Everybody said, that's a complete and
total lie because Aaron Glenn saying today, Hey, it was unpopular.
I knew it was unpopular, but it's the best for

(09:06):
us going forward, which is a great statement to make
because I get it. Do I disagree? Yeah? I disagree because,
lets you're pulling a rabbit out of a hat. I
don't know who the quarterback is, but I'm gonna manifest
the Kyle mccordy is gonna be the Jets quarterback because
they have a meeting with him. I'm gonna manifest a
Kyle McCord's If Kyle McCord is a Jets quarterback, I'll
love it. But the fact that he said, listen, I
understand this was unpopular. So yeah, all the stuff about Rogers,

(09:29):
the media hates Rogers. Of course, he's very polarizing with
his you know, off the wall takes and stuff, and
I get that. But to make it seem like that
he was the problem, he was not. He was not.
The problem was his play on the field the first
half of the year. One hundred percent, one hundred percent.
He was not. He was skittish, he didn't step into throws.
All the things we've talked about over the course of
the year. Nobody's been more right about how we broke

(09:50):
down Aaron Rodgers over the course of this last year
with the Jets. But off the field, the distraction part, well,
all that's a lie. So at least that was that
was dispelled today and probably why Aaron Rodgers still has
a market even outside of New York. I don't know why.
I don't know how, But if if Aaron Rodgers didn't
have a market, he would be Kirk Cousins, we're not

(10:11):
taking it where you're done, You're not going. But the
fact that he has pete teams that could be interested
tells me they know he wasn't a problem. They played
well at the end of the year, but they're not
going to bring a forty year old guy in who's
going to be a problem. So if that was the case,
they would still be washing their hair and saying Aaron, sorry,
you're not a fit for us here. But just knowing
that that's the fact, you can tell that storyline was
pushed by the media by people who just didn't like

(10:32):
Aaron Rodgers, who wanted to make up stuff about him,
because clearly that wasn't the case.

Speaker 3 (10:35):
Well, but even the half assed stuff about well, you know,
the game an ultimatum about the McAfee stuff. And also
I didn't buy that at all, no matter how much
people wanted to stomp on.

Speaker 1 (10:45):
It, said that that wasn't the case. He unprompted, he
just said he I want to talk about the whole
Pat McNett, Oh didn't ask that, but go ahead, go ahead,
move but you want to answer to that.

Speaker 3 (10:54):
Let's check all the boxes for all the nonsensical story
like Jordan Travis took to x and every other social
media the other day goes he was great to be
like he was great in the locker room, the Quinn
Williams thing that came up, because that was part of
what Aaron Glenn was also addressing was the number of
people that decided, Hey, I need to let folks know
that we're not okay with all of this. You know

(11:16):
that this decision is not one And to dispel some
of what was going around from the larger media populace,
do I believe it's parked? Some of his appearances, theories
and episodes sparked a lot of conversation in and around
the locker room or guys and they're off time, going
what the hell are we doing?

Speaker 1 (11:35):
Man? But as long as in the locker room. He
was a guy.

Speaker 3 (11:37):
He was supportive and a good teammate. Again, going back
to Green Bay, nobody came forward, right. It wasn't like
you had a litany of folks coming forward going. Oh
and by the way, he didn't do this or this
or that like, no, he was. He went into work.
Was he a pain in the ask when it came
to coming back to work in the off season?

Speaker 1 (11:57):
Yes?

Speaker 3 (11:58):
Did he threaten to retire and go from way too
many pages of the Brett Fahr playbook that they'd all seen. Yeah,
and that's why it ran its course. Here with the Jets,
you had the unfortunate, fortunate circumstance, and we can argue
till we're blue in the face. Should Robert Salah have
been fired when he was? I don't know, because that
defense fell off markedly once he was gone. Just like

(12:19):
in Chicago, Ibra Flus as bad as a head coach
he was, the defense was nowhere near the same once
he was relieved of his duties. But when we look
at Rogers going for what's he third on the board? Right,
it's Stafford Donald and Rogers. I mean it shouldn't be,
but it's a bad year.

Speaker 1 (12:36):
It's a bad year. The rookie class is not good
this year.

Speaker 3 (12:41):
Everybody already eyeballing what happens for twenty twenty six. So yeah,
based on the way he played the second half of
the season. If you're a team that has the opportunity
and you think you've got a roster that needs just
functional and occasionally exceptional quarterback to get you over towards
that next step for two years, why would you not

(13:03):
kick the can on it?

Speaker 1 (13:04):
Yeah, of course. I mean, look, it's a situation where
I get the hate for him, and as bad as
it was the beginning of the year, and the Jets
didn't win, and Rogers looked bad because he looked bad,
but it was more, Hey, we're just piling on him
because I don't like how smug he is. I don't
like what his takes are off the field. I don't
like that he says what he says on McAfee. And

(13:25):
I get all that, I'm sure, of course, But clearly
for the Jets it wasn't a thing, and it was
it was a false storyline that was planted. Oh he's
horrible that where where we again? That would have come
out right, that would have come out during the season.
You're you're in New York, New Jersey. You're not hiding anymore.

Speaker 3 (13:41):
So, so all that have to say, as we've gone
through the run the gamut of these NFL stories.

Speaker 1 (13:46):
Tonight, he could end up in Indianapolis. Would that not
be a fit Richardson?

Speaker 3 (13:53):
No, No, but he can win that. But b he said,
he's okay with being a mentor. Right when we do
the dollar Yang, Richardson's not making any money yet. You've
got a couple of receivers. You've got Peerce, You've got
Pittman junior. You've got whatever Ad and I Mitchell can become.
You got Jonathan Taylor in the back that You've got
a pretty good offensive line led by Quentin Nelson. And

(14:13):
you got a division that stinks right the Jaguars at
the guy going Duval.

Speaker 1 (14:18):
You've got Houston won a lot of.

Speaker 3 (14:20):
Games in close, you know, close contacts.

Speaker 1 (14:24):
So is that can you repeat that? I don't know.
Can they fix everything that was wrong with their O
line and everything else? I don't know?

Speaker 3 (14:32):
Uh, in Tennessee's Tennessee you can go win that division.

Speaker 1 (14:38):
Two years ago? Right? Great, then you have been a
great fit two years ago. Now it's like, hey, we
just melt in here. You got Kenny coming? Can he
come in?

Speaker 4 (14:47):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (14:47):

Speaker 1 (16:15):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Harmon live from the tire rack dot Com studios,
where in his first game against his former team, Luka
Doncic showing Nico Harrison's this is why you're trading me?

(16:37):
A triple double for Luca with nineteen points, fifteen rebounds
and twelve assists, none bigger than the one we're going
to get to in a second. Lakers win it over
the Mavericks one oh seven to ninety nine. And look,
you know we spent the last few minutes we talked
a lot about the Lakers offensively and how this is
what they envisioned with Luca carrying the team and Lebron

(16:58):
being able to pick his spots to keep him fresher.
When the Lakers had a six point lead with the
basketball about thirty seconds left to go, the game is
still in doubt, and the Lakers take the take the
shot clock all the way down to the end. And
this is where you're expecting Lebron to get the ball
outside the three point line and take a shot that
just you know, bounces off the rim because he wants

(17:18):
to make it look pretty, and he goes down court
with his and they are going, oh, I missed it,
and it's still a game, but with the shot clock
winding down. Instead it was Luca with the ball and
Lebron loses all his defenders and is standing under the
hoop for an alley loop from Luca and a hoop
that ended the game, made it one oh seven to

(17:39):
ninety nine, an incredible end Luca to Lebron, when, like
I said, Lebron usually hangs out outside the three looking
for the ball, but instead he gets under the hoop.
The Mavericks lose him and a big punctual ending there
punctuation for the Lakers over the Mavericks joining us. Now,
I'm the hot line to help us break it down.
Longtime NBA inside of friend of the Show check them

(18:00):
out on substack. Getting ready for his podcast, which I'm
sure will be all about the Lakers and the Mavericks.
NBA insider Mark Stein He is on Twitter at the Steinline, Mark.
What's happening, man? How are you?

Speaker 4 (18:12):
I'm good, gents, I'm good.

Speaker 2 (18:15):
Interesting night, oh man.

Speaker 1 (18:17):
I don't know what's more interesting the game or or
the number of screen grabs I've seen that make it
look like Luca and Nico Harrison are staring each other
down during the game. This was some kind of theater.

Speaker 4 (18:30):
I am not a certified expert on that kind of stuff,
but I suspect there might have been some photo shopping
involved in that one. Wait, well, await NBA Twitter's ultimate verdict.
But that picture looked a little too good to be true.

Speaker 1 (18:49):
All right, So what's your big takeaway what you saw
tonight Luca's first game against the Mavericks.

Speaker 4 (18:56):
Oi. Look, there are a lot of takeaways, and you know,
I you know, I think obviously, we you know, we
want to rush to these grandiose conclusion. The reality is, look,
I mean, you see, the Mavericks are extremely shorthanded as
it stands, with no Anthony Davis, no Derek Lively, no
Daniel Gafferts, so they've got nothing really inside. Dwight Powell

(19:16):
actually came back today from a sixteen game absence and
you know, played so well that they let him go
beyond his minute restriction. They said Dwight Powell was only
going to play at the twelve minutes, and they kept
him out there just because they finally had you know,
a big and an actual big out there. I mean,
the Lakers ultimately punched that lack of size, and you know, look,

(19:39):
I think what you do see, even though these are
the early stages of this partnership, I mean, Lebron James
does benefit having, you know, being on the court with
someone like Luka Doncic, that Luka Doncic can take so
much attention, so much ball handling responsibilities. It really frees
Lebron up to do other things. Excuse me there, It

(20:03):
freaks brought up to do other stuff. And you know,
he punished the MAVs repeatedly late in lots of different ways.
But you know, just I mean it was a weird
It was always going to be a weird night. I mean,
this is you know, mav fans are in agony. You
guys know I live in Dallas. I mean this is
you know, torture for them to have to see Luka
Doncic so soon in another uniform playing against their team

(20:27):
Luca at the Early Tech. I mean, it was just
it was just a it was always going to be
a weird one, and I you know, I do think
it it lived up lived up to that it was.
It was. It was a raggedy game, close, intense and raggedy.

Speaker 3 (20:43):
Take something away from the fact that it is a
close game, stretch im and they only shot what thirty
or whatever in the first half, and yet they still
made it a game.

Speaker 1 (20:53):
So you take something from that. I guess if you're
a Dallas fan, no question.

Speaker 4 (20:57):
And look, like I said, you know this this trade
has rocked the city. It's rocked the franchise as well.
I mean for the you know it, you know these
are players who you know, the guys on that team
didn't make this move. I mean, you know, this is
you know, a huge shock to the system for everybody,
But like since this trade, I mean, they just continue.

(21:19):
Jason Kidd is getting a ton out of a very
small team. Again, he has, you know, all of his
you know, the Mavericks. Whole idea behind making this was
putting Anthony Davis together with either Lively or gafferd at
all times and that they were going to be this
jumbo size team. And you know, they only had Anthony

(21:40):
Davis for the one game he you know, his for
a half. Anthony Davis's debut looked like it's going to
be a storybook debut. He ends up getting injured in
the second half the Braves against Houston. It's going to
be March sixth before we even have an idea if
Anthony Davis, Lively, Gaffer you know, we don't even have
a time, kid but yet really on when any of

(22:01):
them are going to be back. But this mas team
just keeps despite its lack of size. You know, Kyrie
Irving is obviously having an all NBA season, Klay Thompson
sensational tonight. I mean, they made this very uncomfortable and
nervy for the Lakers. I mean, this was not just
a cruise and the expected party that I think they probably,

(22:25):
you know, thought they were on course for when they
got the lead up to sixteen in the first half.

Speaker 1 (22:29):
Mark Stein with us, Jason Smith, Mike Harmon, Lifrom the
Tyrech dot Com Studios. All Right, when it comes to
Luca seeing him tonight, does he look like the same guy?
Does he look different? Does he look more motivated? Does
he look the same?

Speaker 3 (22:41):
Well?

Speaker 1 (22:41):
What do you see Luca with the Lakers, especially with
the what you saw tonight versus what he was earlier
this season when he's with the Mavericks.

Speaker 4 (22:49):
Well, I don't think there was any question about the motivation.
I mean, you guys not only saw the early tech,
but he dropped the two threes and you know, didn't
hesitate to look in the direction of the MAVs bench,
and you knew that was he is. He has never
been a guy who hides his emotions and he can't.

(23:10):
He just he can't. And so you knew that was
going to fill out. But as far as how he played,
you know, I still feel like feeling his you know,
his way and trying to find his place and was
very content to be the setup man late recognizing that
Lebron James was, you know, gonna have his way inside

(23:32):
going to be able to overpower a very small team.
And you know Luca came in the fourth quarter. He
wasn't trying to, you know, take over the game and
finish with a big flourish. I mean, he was content
to be the setup guy. Look, he missed. He's coming
off the longest most serious injury absence of his professional career.

(23:56):
And you know this is only game five for him
since coming back that injury, and so I think he
is still in an adjustment phase. But you know that's Luke.
You know this is even in an adjustment phase, even
in new surroundings, even still trying to find his place
with a new team, he can throw off a triple
double and you know, grab a mess of rebounds. I mean,

(24:19):
he just he he is a problem causer. And the
one thing you have to say, Look, the Lakers are
also very small, and that makes you wonder what they
can really do in the playoffs. But when they have
all three of those guys out there, when you have Luca,
Lebron and Reeves and you have three guys who can
make plays happen, defensively is going to be a challenge,

(24:41):
but they can cause a lot of problems to be
offensive in.

Speaker 1 (24:45):
He's on Twitter at the Steinline, that is at the Steinline.
Check him out on Substack as well, Mark stein Mark,
thanks for jumping on with us. Appreciate it. We'll talk
to you next week. Have a good.

Speaker 4 (24:53):
One, all right, guys, be good. Sounds good?

Speaker 1 (24:56):
All right, There goes Mar you know, recording his podcast
jumping on with us. Awesome after game now, really quick
to jump on because you know he spends a lot
of time covering the Mavericks, right, I mean he's he's
been covering them for the last few years. And we
talked about the situation for Dallas is not terrible, right,
Like he said, listen, hey, Dallas hung tough tonight, and
they were nervy in a game where they clearly were

(25:18):
out and end because they still don't have Anthony Davis.
But this is a Mavericks team that we told hey,
they can do a lot of damage. They can score
and when Ad comes back and he's able to really
solidify the front court and not have to do too much.
Look you saw tonight Clay still has it right, he
can still put up some points. Now, maybe rely on
him a little bit too much. Season goes on being older.

(25:38):
But Kyrie clearly is enjoying being the one again. And
he's and he's a young thirty two right, Like he's
not somebody where you say, okay, like when Mellow got
to be thirty two, thirty three, okay, Like Kyrie is
still a young thirty two and he's a, Hey, this
is my team now, or at least I'm the number
one scorer on this team. You know, AD's gonna come

(25:59):
in and he's gonna be a kind of like what
he had with the Lakers and eight. He's been fine
with that sort of division of late, fine with that.
But that's the thing is that, you know, the the
the comeback for the continued comeback of Kyrie Irving over
the past couple of years, from a guy that looked
like he was gonna fritter away his career to now,

(26:19):
hey helps get the Mavericks to the NBA Finals alongside Luca,
and now now I'm the number one guy on the team.
Like he kept them in the game, he brought them
back to a tie game when the Mavericks looked like
they were going to potentially steal this thing thirty five,
seven and four, he shot Grady he had five threes tonight,
like just shovel dirt on this Dallas team. With each

(26:39):
day that goes by, things get a little bit easier
for Nico Harrison and the Mavericks and the Mavericks fans going, Okay,
maybe it's not absolutely terrible. You're still three games over
five hundred. You've played without Luca for a long time,
when he was out in December up until the trade deadline.
You're pretty good right now? Are you the best team
in the NBA? No, you're not, But are you what good?

(27:00):
Do you have a pretty good future with some guys
that are still in their early thirty Yeah. Yeah, you're
gonna have to add to the team obviously and continue
to move forward. But with that you am. But with
with Gott, with k soon after tonight he needs to
be fired. Eight He didn't play a he didn't play
got he got They've been playing well. They've beaten a
lot of good teams without Luca and without a d

(27:22):
like the Mavericks. That's they're not They're not dooming gloom
for them. It's not the rosy expectations the Lakers. Where
did we just did? I did? But the Mavericks play
this game. Without Anthony Davis, I gotta think, I ad
the game might have been a little bit difficult.

Speaker 3 (27:36):
But but that's the thing, right, Styles make fights. In
this particular case, down the stretch, you saw Chamura, you
saw Lebron James. I mean, how many emphatic I'm going
to stare you down dunks did you see from Lebron
in the fourth Like.

Speaker 1 (27:48):
Hey, I got another one down low?

Speaker 3 (27:49):
Man, get your picture, get your picture and look you
take advantage of the opportunity. As Mark laid out and
as we talked about as the game was in progress,
you know you're missing You're missing Gafford, you're missing ad Uh.
That's the front line that you were building this around,
where you have some balance and definition to your to
your offense and defensively that you'd be able to slow

(28:11):
things down and protect the rim. They had nobody there
to protect the rim. So Lobbs to Jackson, Hey is
Lobbs to Lebron, Lobbs down low and then you know
the the pass into the into the low post and
then a quick turn and there there's a bucket is there?
The other is this one's going to be a deceptive
to go from from a defensive standpoint because it was
shot thirty five percent.

Speaker 1 (28:31):
Yeah, I'd like to see a true grid.

Speaker 3 (28:34):
How whoever, you want to go through the metrics of
which were really contested shots versus they just shot terrible.

Speaker 1 (28:41):
Because I'm more tory, I mean, I'm kind of in
the middle.

Speaker 3 (28:44):
Like there were there were some good flying you know,
and contesting and close out opportunities defensively, there were also
a number of Hey, we swung the ball around and
this guy just flat out missed a shot. I don't
think I've seen that many air balls and and just
bottom of the backboards from both teams combined.

Speaker 1 (29:00):
We saw over the course of this game Bron airball
to free fourth court. He did it look like he
airballed was to the right. I think he missed it.

Speaker 3 (29:08):
No, it's that good man. Fortunately in the box scort
just goes down as a miss. Did you see what
when they did the closing montage for the game. What
the first image was the Lebron and a d talking
yeah with their hands up, your hands up and uh,
you know, shirts covering their mouths.

Speaker 1 (29:25):
No what we're saying. No one can tell what we're saying. Uh,
let's find out what's trending right now in the wide
world of sports. But guy's been called the Kyrie Irving
of Fox Sports Radio. Phenomenal career. Thought it was over
the last couple of years, but now showing you that, hey,
I still play great. It's Steve Desanger, Thank you. Lakers

(29:49):
and Luka Donsich were winners over his old team Dallas
one O seven to ninety nine. Luka with a triple
double including twelve assists only two turnovers. He was from
three point range. One of Lebron James twenty seven points
in this game for Dallas. PJ Washington oh of nine
shooting from the floor. Kyrie Irving led the MAVs with

(30:09):
thirty five points. Luca to have at.

Speaker 6 (30:12):
Least fifteen points, fifteen rebounds, ten assists, at least two
steals and two blocks all in the same game, first
Laker since Kareem to do so, and the fact that
he had quite the first half statistically, including twelve rebounds,
no other player in the play by play era it
had the first half that Luca had tonight twelve points,
twelve boards, seven assists in the first half, two blocks

(30:34):
and two steals. And that play by play era where
they actually list Each play on paper as it goes along,
goes back over twenty five years. Lakers record thirty five
and twenty one. They'll be hosting Minnesota Thursday. Lakers play
the Clippers on Friday and Sunday nights. Kawhi Leonard of
the Clips is off the injury report. He's missed the
last two games with the sore foot. Joel Embi to

(30:55):
Philadelphia will miss another contest on Wednesday. He's having tests
on his knee this week. Net center Nick Claxton was
suspended one game for too many flagrant fouls. Golden State
won it's late game. In fact, they won four in
a row, beat up Charlotte one twenty eight ninety two.
The Hornets did not have Lamello ball out with a
bad ankle. Charlotte's record fourteen and forty three home wins

(31:16):
for Houston and New Orleans and for Memphis as well.
In overtime Grizzly's one fifty one suns one forty eight.
Boston won at six to a row.

Speaker 1 (31:26):
Three hundred points. Is the as I got the over.
I missed it by by one.

Speaker 6 (31:31):
It's like something I hear from Rob Parker every day.
Boston won at six straight one.

Speaker 1 (31:37):
If you got five dollars, I lost all my money.
Oh it's good today.

Speaker 6 (31:40):
It is because he lost by half a point on
the Boston game because the opponents scored on goaltending on
their final possession.

Speaker 1 (31:52):
Great moments in gambling history.

Speaker 6 (31:55):
So it's a mere ten point win for Boston won
eleven one oh one.

Speaker 1 (31:59):
At can you give me a ride home? I lost
it that coming to get it now Cleveland one.

Speaker 6 (32:04):
It's eighth straight beat up Orlando one twenty two to
eighty two. In college hoops, easy wins for number two Duke,
number six Alabama, number eleven ranked Wisconsin and number four
Missouri at fourteen Missouri beat South Carolina one oh one
seventy one MISSOO shot sixty four percent from the floor.
South Carolina in conferences one and fourteen. On FS one

(32:25):
twenty first rank Marquette rip Providence eighty two to fifty two.
Georgiapp set number three Florida. Fifth ranked Tennessee did win
a close one at LSU. Oklahoma State upset number nine
Iowa State. Louisville gotta win at Virginia Tech. The Falcons
say Kirk Cousins will stay with the team as a
backup QB. The Bills gave wide receiver Khalil Shakira a

(32:46):
four year extension, and the Colts are saying they're gonna
add competition at quarterback for Anthony Richardson. In the NHL
Toronto a comeback winner at Boston in overtime five to four.
The Nationals resigned closer Kyle Finnegan one year, six million dollars.
And we mentioned last week as this Conka Calf champions
Cup tournament was opening and Lionel Messi's team from the

(33:08):
warm Climbs of Miami had to play in three degree weather. Yeah,
at Kansas City. The rematch was slightly better weather in Florida.
Miami gets an early goal from Messi and wins three
to one.

Speaker 1 (33:19):
Back to you, Thank you, Steve O. The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon live from the Tirack dot Com studios.
All right, so coming up next, we'll have more on
this big Titanic win for the Lakers over the Mavericks,
including audio from the game tonight. You absolutely have to hear.
Wasn't by the play by play guys, wasn't from one
of the players, but it's audio from this game. You

(33:42):
have to hear. That's next right here, Jason and Mike.
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (33:47):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.

Speaker 1 (33:56):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Harmon. I just love at the end of
the video and they're all dancing together at the end.
They got their arms round. Yeah, dancing. Ah, what a
what a collaboration. Tyler breaks through with them microphone stand classic,
so great Marquee Game of the Night tonight in the

(34:20):
NBA the Lakers and JJ Reddick, my buddy, my friend
JJ Reddick and hates you. Yeah he does. You know what,
maybe that's fuel for this and could, like I'm saying,
fueling the intensity. What's their record since he took me
on in the in the postgame press conference, we'll play

(34:41):
that open coming up in about ten minutes ago. And
his hair looks perfect, So it's so it's almost like,
you know, yours being gone, Yeah, strengthening his too. Yeah.
The only one can live while the other survived. Only one. Yeah, wiltchit.
Voldemort's over here. Lakers beat the Mavericks one oh seven,

(35:02):
to ninety nine Luka Doncics with a triple double. He
was incredible tonight, especially dishing the basketball a couple of
nola the no look past he had when he was
into the lane and he just flipped it over his
shoulder on the fly to Austin Reeves, who catches it
behind the three point line standing there. It's not like
Reeves is coming down the floor. Reeves was standing there

(35:23):
behind the three point line and Luca just flicks it
right to him, who hits the three. That was one
of those Wow. I don't know about role models, but
your mind passed.

Speaker 3 (35:32):
I need the old sport Foots cards to come back
at that one so we can get like three or
four panels.

Speaker 1 (35:37):
That that give us that end. You guys, just wait
for Magic to tweet about that. Yeah, you know, Magic's
been magic, I would think so he's been really like
with the tweets over the course of the past couple
of weeks. We need stuffer from tonight or at least
whoever runs his account.

Speaker 3 (35:51):
Let's let's uh, let's see if we can't, you know,
flush him out.

Speaker 1 (35:56):
Let's go. I'd love to play the Magic Johnson Twitter
game be in a minute, but uh, a triple double
from Luka Doncich, who did it in front of Lakers
owner Mark Cuban, did it in front of Sorry it
did in front of Mavericks owner Mark Cuban. Sorry he
would have for well, he still he still has a
position of power with the team. He does. I can't
make any decisions.

Speaker 3 (36:16):
Well, the other folks are just trying to, you know,
offload everything.

Speaker 1 (36:20):
I like how they asked somebody. He says, I'm not around.
I wasn't in on the Luca decision. If I were,
this wouldn't end. Also there tonight was Nico Harrison, MAVs GM,
who was the driving force behind the Luca trade. And
you know, we told you before the game that they're
probably gonna put a statue of Nico Harrison up outside

(36:41):
the crypt mate maybe near the Gretzky statue, maybe near
the Shack statue. But a statue of Nico Harrison for
getting Luka Doncich to the Lakers is definitely going up.
And to give a great shout out to Laker fans,
the Lakers wanted to make sure that Nico Harrison, in
attendance at the game tonight, knew how grateful they are

(37:02):
for the Luca Dntage trade by by channing his name
during free throws that Luca was taking in the game.
Luca's taking free throws in the crowds channing thank you Nico.

(37:22):
I didn't see it, but the Nico stand up and
wave his hat say hey, you guys are welcome. You
guys are welcome to wave.

Speaker 3 (37:28):
I mean I did like the lower third the bottom
of the screen for you know, the chiron for those
in the business, that had his name up as they
showed him and it said finessed by Rob Blinka. Yeah,
I used that term several days ago to talk about
how this trade came to pad.

Speaker 1 (37:45):
People listen to the show Man.

Speaker 3 (37:47):
So I see the word finessed as that gets screenshot,
I just have to laugh.

Speaker 1 (37:52):
Thank you everybody. We are jj Reddick who doesn't like
me the font people who love you because I put
the font, not the want I would ask. I really
hope so we'll bring you. We get good postgame sound
from from Luca Dontage tonight following the game, but I really,
I really want to bring Nico Harrison sound. Hopefully he's
interviewed and and someone says, h Nico Jason Smith Fox

(38:15):
sports radio. Uh, you know. Online they're calling you the
man who rebuilt the Lakers. How do you feel about that?
You may have created a championship contender. People are saying
this is the greatest job in rebuilding the Lakers since
Jerry West traded Paal Gasol to the Lakers working for
I to break it to you, Yeah, I know this figure. Yeah,

(38:38):
but you got two championship This is where.

Speaker 3 (38:40):
Seven seven he's gonna start screaming at like he's Monica Geller.

Speaker 1 (38:47):
The two biggest moves to rebuild the Lakers were all
made by people who weren't working for the Lakers at
the time. I mean, Jerry West may have been working
I mean he may have been actually working for the Lakers.

Speaker 3 (38:58):
He was working for the grit Gotta show greenlit off
of that, the subversive what is it? He's a guy
working in a front office for another team and keeps
funneling top notch players back to the team that he
once started.

Speaker 1 (39:13):
I like that we could do. And then like Jake
Gillenhall is a detective. Yeah, yeah, I'm good with that.
I'm good. That's good, pretty good. Jason Nico might have
to work for the Lakers after to night. You back
to Dallas. Do you think Rob Polinka hired him? Like
right after this game was over. Hey, come come to
my here's your office, it's right next to mine.

Speaker 3 (39:30):
Do you think that suit was reversible and it's actually
gold on the interior?

Speaker 1 (39:33):
After Mavericks fans watching that game, he can never go back. Oh,
it's gonna be tough to be fired. It'll be tough.
It'll be like in the in the Simpsons when Lyle
Lanley was flying back north Haverbrook. We ever heard that before?
There he is seat eight. I got him. Oh okay,
I can't go back to Dallas.

Speaker 3 (39:49):
But this is one where it's it's kind of like
the Ryan Pole situation in Chicago that we've talked about
with the Bears. You are in a position and you
get to have that position, but you are the fall
guy if things go wrong.

Speaker 1 (40:02):
So for Nico Harrison, he he did not order the
code red.

Speaker 3 (40:05):
No, that goes from ownership, Yeah, to say, all right,
get him off the books.

Speaker 1 (40:10):
It's a final and now when it goes bad and
it already has, he he just you know they fix
the glitch. Yeah, No, it's Nico. It's like in fantasy
when I used to do fantasy with with with my
best friend, and and I would say, okay, we would
disagree over who to start. I said, no, let's go
with Let's go with who you said he goes? Really,
why go because that way, if you're wrong, I can

(40:32):
blame you. That's right. That's all I care about.

Speaker 3 (40:34):
That's what I always said. Blame as the fantasy in design. Hey,
if I got you to change it, I did my job.

Speaker 1 (40:42):
Hey. I don't care if I'm trading Luca Works or not.
If it does great, If it doesn't, I can blame you.
That's good. Coming up next, more from this game, Luca
meeting the press, and a big quarterback story out of
the NFL involving
