Two bits of high drama in the last five minutes
Game three of the World here. If you can't like
this game, baseball is not your thing. It's an all
time classic World Series game and what we just saw
to send this game to the bottom of the tenth
inning again, we could do four hours on this and
(01:12):
not repeat a topic. The Dodgers looked like they were
on the cusp of losing the lead. Emma Chien came in,
got a couple of quick outs, but Frank singles and
then Lucas doubles down the line in right Schneider. They
wave him all the way around. He is out by
ten feet. They look at the play to make sure
(01:34):
that will Smith doesn't block the plate. Now what does
Will Smith do? He gets the ball and there's a
path to the plate, then he sticks his left foot
out hard rock, Yeah, harder for Snyder to get to
the plate. And then he said, keep my pitcher's name
out of your makes the tag. Schneider still able to
touch them to touch the plate. But they were looking
for did he block the plate? Now? Because will Smith
(01:57):
got the ball and was and was in a spot
he can move to do what he wants to do,
So it was the right call to make if he
didn't have the ball block they played, that's one thing.
And the runner is allowed to then collide with will
Smith to get to the plate at that point, so
we know the right call was made there. But the
big thing that I don't get is I understand where
you're at in the game. It's five to five, it's
(02:20):
the tenth inning. You want to try to make something happen. Okay,
you send Schneider again, who was out by ten feet,
and you're I get your banking that you're gonna get
a bad throw to the plate from Taoscar Hernandez or
a bad throat to Edmund, but you get a great
relay and as long as the Dodgers can execute, you're
out at the plate. But that's the thing is that
I get you thinking that that Taoscar Hernandez can make
(02:42):
a bad throw, But all they got to do is execute,
and he's out by ten feet and that's what happened.
It wasn't even a close play. What I don't get
is this they decided to send Schneider and who is
on deck? Vlad Junior is on deck, and he is
outside of Otawni, the hottest hitter that we have seen
in the playoffs. His ops is one point three. He's
(03:05):
hitting five hundred in the playoffs. I don't know how
you don't have Vlad Junior up there with a runner
at third, And Okay, if we're gonna lose, I wanna
lose a Vlad Junior at the play right. I mean,
this is the same thing as saying the Dodgers aren't
sending a guy to be out by ten feet with
Otani on deck, right, that's not happening. I don't understand
the sending of the sending of Schneider when Vlad again
(03:28):
this side of Otani led Junior. I mean, you've seen
him this entire playoffs. He's been unstoppable. He's having an
incredible game tonight. He would be having one of the
greatest World Series games of all time if not for
Otani what he is doing tonight with his two home
runs and two doubles, it would be Vlad Junior. He's
making big plays in the field, so you can tell
how locked in Vlad Junior is. I understand you want
to send a guy, but man, that's a really difficult
(03:50):
thing when you know, if the Dodgers just execute, he's
out and our best hitter is on deck, and we
could potentially lose this game because we didn't give our best,
best hit or a chance with a runner in. I'll
be it two outs, but a Besser with runners of
scoring position with two outs, I don't get how you do.
They at least got to give him a chance. Right,
We've we've seen this happen throughout the year with your team.
(04:12):
I know a bunch certainly White Sox, plenty of losses
with head scratching base running decisions, and we've watched it
and lived and died with you know, our good friends
here in Dodgerville, here in Los Angeles, with all the
base running miscues, with all of the fielding issues, et cetera.
Schneider and just pinched run for France who had the single.
(04:34):
So I guess he was bound to determine that he
was going to make an impact. But he's out by
a mile. And yeah, you're hoping something in that chain
of events from the hit and how tay Oscar comes
up and into Edmund, that's somewhere in that chain something's
going to be broken. But I would take the percentage
chance of I'll take my guy with his one point
(04:56):
three oh ps and let him go to work. Yeah,
I mean, look, you're not sending someone who is gonna be,
you know, a speed merchant around the bases. You're not
you you you're you're sending You're sending someone who Okay,
all right, I mean you're you're you're you're hoping that
this was as bad as Freddy Freeman rounding third. Oh
the heat check, Freddy Freeman. Yeah, let's send all that
(05:17):
base and now here you are here. It is same
kind of mentality, pinch runner, it's my job to go. So, uh,
we're going to the eleventh inning. The Dodgers had two
on and two out. Will Smith was hit by a
pitch and then to Oscar Hernandez single to let again
to Oscar, keeping both teams in the game all night tonight. Uh.
And then Tommy Edmund had a chance to be the
(05:39):
hero right open the door for four runs for the
uh for the Blue Jays earlier tonight. UH, pops up
to Vlad Junior. So he'll be the first batter of
the eleventh inning. And I believe Clayton Kershaw is coming
into the game for the Dodgers. There we go. I
mean again, can't script this. I mean we are near Hollywood.
I don't know. You can't anything like you did this game.
(06:02):
I really. I mean, look, I get prisoner of the
moment and all of that, but this is an all time,
all time World Series game. It hasn't ended yet. No,
but you got all these huge historical at bats right
months he was coming up trying to become the first
guy with multiple walkoffs in the World Series in ages
like all of these things that have played in the
(06:24):
defensive woes followed by greatness. Uh the Sasaki stab at
the ball up back up the middle, the Edmund throws,
the ta Oscar throws everything the Blue Jays did defensively
to thwart Dodger rally. The number of pitchers that have
come in like it has been like a mini series
(06:44):
all in one night. It's one of the things that
we love being on air to talk about it, break
it down as it happens, the good, the bad, the ugly.
It looks like we're going to get some more plot
twists here momentarily. I mean, it really is something. Again,
We're going to the eleventh inning, the Dodgers are almost
out of pitchers, and at some point does it doesn't
this end with Otani coming in to end the game
(07:06):
for the Dog? Does this end with Otani coming in
to do something? Okay? Can you imagine with a big helmet,
the big helmet that he comes on walking? Yeah here,
I am no, Like it's but that's the insanity of it, right,
is that we're we're hitting the end of the pitching
staffs and you know it, hearts with Vesia and his family,
(07:26):
one of the guys that would have been in one
of these big leverage spots. So the Dodgers were working
through that and trying to steal out as you can.
And look, they've gotten the defensive help that has been
such the the problem over the course of the year,
and giveth and take it away just like this relieve
relieving cores. So certainly as we get ready for the eleventh,
(07:48):
as Guerrero Junior steps into the batter's box, like I
got my popcorn ready, Man, it's the next act, and
I wonder, okay, so she's in to start the top
of the other the top of the eleventh inning, you wonder, maybe, okay,
we want the righty, righty thing with Vlad Junior. And
then it's gonna because Kershaw looks like he's ready to
come in the game. He was sitting. Yeah, we know, Kurt.
(08:10):
We talked about Kershaw, his routine, being able to come
into games like he's one of those guys that you
know for his entire Look, I want to throw the
first pitch at seven seven ten, right, seven ten seven,
and eleven we got it. We start. I don't think
they're having him warm up and it's gonna be okay,
Hey if Shean gets into trouble. So I wonder if
you're gonna see something here where Shean's gonna get the
first batter because it's Vlad Junior. And then it's gonna
(08:32):
wind up being Kershaw time, and Kershaw's timing things to
be ready to come in here following this at be wow.
We know with with Kershaw. The big thing is also
the era for first innings has been ballooned over the
course of the year, So something that plays into some
of the psychology of what we've got going on here. Well,
he's got to pitch a first inning of it. No
(08:53):
but that, but that's that's got to come in for
the first time. You can laugh about it, but I
just make the point of it's being clean and easy
all season a lot for him. No look, and that's
why we're at the point of this game where it's
the wild West, like this is the worst nightmare for
the Dodgers because they can't trust anybody. Dave Roberts is
just living pitch to pitch because the only guy he
(09:15):
could trust was roky. Sosaki came in and was terrific. Right,
Ssaki was terrific. He came in, everything was great, but
he only can go a couple of innings, right, And
the Dodgers get a big out to start the top
of the eleventh Led Junior flies out to center field,
so Emma Chien takes care of the most dangerous batter
in The Blue Jays lineup to start the eleventh inning,
(09:35):
and Kershaw is still throwing in the bullpen. The Dodgers
have three pitchers left. They have Enriquez, they have Will Klein,
and they have Clayton Kershaw again warming up. Looks like
he's getting ready to come into this game. Yeah, this
is already. Shean's the seventh pitcher of the night for
the Dodgers. As we traverse the eleventh inning, you think
(09:56):
Baseball says, Hey, listen, guys, you guys gave us an
all time. We're gonna take tomorrow off. Were gonna let
you guys take a day. We'll just we'll just play third.
We'll I don't know, we got to keep building on
the heat. Now We're gonna have no idea. Who the
hell's going to be a little to pitch. You want
to talk about quick recovery times after a long game,
I mean, because this game's now in its fourth hour.
Yeah yeah, this game started but five point fifteen ish
(10:17):
our time locally, and we're drifting towards nine to fifteen
twelve fifteen East coast times, So I mean it is
it's a fast chart around man. Yeah. May maybe I
think if your baseball you do a solid and go, hey, guys,
what an un We want to have a day to
talk about this game, right. That's the thing is that
they get right back out of tomorrow, Like you want
to talk about this game for a week, Well, but
think about it. It's like, because it happened over the weekend,
(10:38):
we didn't even get to talk about the brilliance of
Yamamoto game too. Oh my god, we got straight into
this where which I was happy form because I'm like, boy,
my whole thought about not paying for starting pitchers really
took a hito. No, no, no, he's you know the
guy that because I mean all those tweets a green surface,
you paid three hundred and fifteen million dollars for a
guy who's never pitched in a major league game. No, like, no,
that it seems okay, I tweeted out, Hey, I think
(10:59):
three twenty five million dollars just for that game was
worth it? Hey, just for Pitch and Gape too. The
way it was, it was worth it. Box office, baby,
I tell you what A lot of discussions saw all
week here in la of the you know the price
of admission for World Series and and do you do
you buy in? And if you do, you know how
far do you go? Because Parking we saw the it's
(11:20):
like one hundred and fifty dollars. Oh yeah, Parker eighty
dollars for one lot or all the way up to
one fifty. Uh so you got that plus your cost
of concessions whatever. And I'm always the believer of I
get it. It's sticker shock. But unfortunately, as a Dodger fan,
I mean fortunate and unfortunate, you've had a lot of occurrence.
(11:41):
So it's like, I don't want to miss this one.
No I went last year like no, no, I gotta
go this. And the thing is, I know a lot
of people who are going tomorrow and then and they've
texted me already tonight saying I would give back my
tickets to see o Tani pitch tomorrow if I could
go back in time to be Oh, sure, I go
back to that big Oh no chance knows. So Tony
could have three more home runs and you know, Pat, yeah, yeah,
(12:02):
I mean really. EMMT Sheen gets out of the top
of the eleventh, he gets a flyout, a flyout and
a strikeout to in the inning coming up for the Dodgers.
He ca Hernandez Andy Pajes and show hey Oton, oh
that guy again in the bottom of the eleventh. I
love four Los Angeles again. One of the greatest World
(12:25):
Series games you will ever see. And to think about
the twists and turns. Like I said, there's so much
to get to enjoy the greatness, enjoy the drama of
what we're seeing. And I got a feeling everybody's TVs
are tuned into this at some point to say, all right,
I've heard about the game. I gotta see this for myself.

Speaker 1 (14:05):
It is the Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmon the bottom of the eleven. Starting to get
really interesting. First two batters for the Dodgers or out.
Keyk Hernandez with a two to ohero count three and
one count eventually strikes out, So a big first out
(14:29):
for the Dodgers. For the Blue Jays, Shoeotani comes up
with two outs later on and nobody on he gets
intentionally walked as we thought. Mookie Betts has just singled
through the hole between third and short. So now show, hey,
Otani is at second base, he is the game winning run,
(14:50):
and there is a timeout on the field. Right now,
Dave Roberts is checking Otani, who ran down a second
and looked a like he went into second base a
little gingerly. Yeah, And so Dave Roberts and Otani's interpreter
out to talk to him right now, Uh did checking
on him to see that he's okay. He stepped off
(15:13):
the bag and is doing a little bit of moving around.
He's going to stay in the game. So obviously that's
you're like, oh, you're sure you're staying in the game, right, Well,
and he's game four member going on here. It's not you,
it's Kofax and I gotta warm Kofax up. Now he
looked good, so he was waving to the people. Yeah,
it was nice, right, So again it didn't look like
(15:33):
anything weird happened. Otani goes for fore. He's not trying
to go to third because obviously the ball is at
to to left field. But he comes a little grimace
as he goes into second, and that's why the Dodgers
came out to look at him. So but he's again.
He stays in the game, two outs first and second.
Freddie Freeman up. He has won for three on the night.
He's got two walks, a big single, a stolen base,
(15:53):
and getting thrown out at home on a big heat
check trying to score from second a single. Yeah, that's
why I mean the heat checked by Freddy Freeman. That's
a horrible mistake by Freeman. And that felt like it
was three weeks ago. And that was just like I said,
all the drama from this game is absolutely insane. We're
just gonna do a supercuts of little highlights games. Yes,
(16:14):
I mean this happened, you know. And the funny thing
is I feel bad. I go and I apologize to
our editors because you know, I come in and I
tell them, I go, hey, uh, here's a big play
we need from this game, right, We need the We
need the play where Freddy Freeman gets thrown out, we
need the play where Bobashett gets caught off a first base.
And they're like, really, yes, we're gonna need trust. We're
gonna need this as soon as the game is over,
because you know, we can't play the highlights till the
(16:35):
game ends. I said, yes, as soon as the game ends,
we're gonna be all right, all right, great, all right great,
And I'm like, we're really gonna need this. I think
we're at like forty seven cuts. The only highlight that
matters tonight is when the Dodgers hit the game winning
one walk off. That's it. Yeah, that's gonna be it.
That's the only highlight that's getting played. That's really, that's
(16:55):
really and then Randy Newman playing I Love La like
that that's what we're gonna get. I mean, you had
Mookie Bets get the base hit to extend the inning
right where a Tani goes to second, and we had
the little hiccup there, he checked in, he stayed in
the game, but like Mookie, was zero for five on
the night. I can only imagine how hard Dita Rule
was pounding the keyboard there to get the crop even
(17:16):
that much more hyped did did. And now we are
heading to the twelfth inning. Freddie Freeman flies out to
shallow left field to end the inning. Now we go
to the twelfth Emmachian who finished the inning for the Dodgers.
Clayton Kershaw was up in the bullpen. Potentially we could
get Kershaw again. It's been two innings of relief for Emmachian,
(17:38):
so it could be Kershaw in to try to extend
this game. As we go to the twelfth inning, five
point five after eleven twenty runners left on base in
this one, and then the defensive heroics to cut down
would be scorers. So it's just been an amazing run
of game here. Now we'll get back to this game
(17:58):
in a few minutes. We got Steve de Seger come
to you with what's trending, but big NFL story tie,
There's been two big NFL stories tonight. We have Monday
Night Football. We have the Chiefs and the Commanders which
we'll get to. But Carson Wentz is going to be
done for the season with the Minnesota Vikings having season
ending surgery. Remember it was his left arm that was
injured so badly against the Chargers on Thursday night. You
(18:21):
could see him. He was in tears following the game.
It was awful. It was coaching malpracticed by Kevin O'Connell
to keep him out there. We said it Thursday night
at the time, like you got to take the guy out.
Clearly he's getting up, he's getting hit. All this Chargers
defense is teeing off on him. It is not your night.
It's a blowout game, it's the fourth quarter. You take
Carson Wentz out. He is getting up holding his arm.
(18:43):
It is useless. It is dragging by his side. You
got to take him out. And it was awful that
Kevin O'Connor, like I would sue the Vikings if I
was Carson Wentz, I would say, hey, this could be
the end of my career. I'm out for the year.
I would sue them because for Kevin O'Connell say, after
the game, he kept telling me he was Okay, what
do you expect your players? Say, I mean, come on, man,
what do you think Carson's gonna say he wanted to
(19:04):
stay out there? Of course he does because he wants
to play, But he just basically said, oh, he kept
telling me he was all right. You have to know
when we know watching television from two thousand miles away,
Carson Wentz is injured. He's not hurt. He is injured.
He has to come out of this game. But he
finishes the game. And now we get word that his
run is starting quarterback from Minnesota is over as he's
(19:24):
going to have season ending surgery to repair that left
shoulder injury he initially suffered earlier this month. This is
where I mean, if you're the NFLPA or you're Carson Wentz,
you could sue the Minnesota Vikings. And I am so
disappointed Kevin O'Connell deciding to leave an injured player out
there when clear anybody could see that he was not
(19:45):
He's not someone that should be in the game. He
needed to come out and now here he is done
for the sale. Who knows if someone signs him after this, Right,
you're talking about Carson Wentz near the end of his career,
a backup coming off a season ending injury does he
get so I don't know he would get somewhere coming
off of this year, and now here he is. You
need to protect your players, and you need if you're
Kevin O'Connell, you need to do that. And this is
an awful case of coaching Malt. This is a literal
(20:07):
case of coaching Malt. Brockett. Well, it's a terrible look
because it's also a standalone game, so the eyes of
the league were on it. I mean, how many tweets
and social media posts to we see from current and
former players wondering aloud what was happening in that game?
You and I were on air looking at each other
just incredulously with each hit that he took, because it
was clear that offensive line had no answer. Right, the
(20:29):
Chargers were teeing off on him. He was a damn
pinata by the beginning of that second half, hit after hit,
and you could see the arms slumping, you could see
the look behind the face mask. He was days and
he was gonna keep getting up and trying to play
until he finally had nothing left. And certainly we've had
(20:50):
how many instances we use the you have to protect
players from themselves. He's gonna keep getting up right, because
he thinks he's a better option. He knows he's a
better option. And then Max Brosmer and certainly JJ McCarthy's
there as your emergency guy who's at ducking and evading
guys flowing flying on the sidelines, let alone getting him
back into a game. So as we watched that unfold,
(21:13):
you know, Vikings came back, they had a couple of
offensive linemen return. Clearly they were not back two one
hundred percent kind of forced back into action. And this
is why when we have discussions of helmet to helmets
and all of the other things about player safety, what
about this, Like, you know, the independent neurologists and people
patrolling the sideline, Like, where do they get to just
(21:35):
step in and be like, you know what this is.
This is like a boxing match. At this point, he's out,
he's out on his feet. I don't know how nobody
did that. And I also don't know how because it
was an easy decision, right, I understand. Look, I understand
the back and forth with hey, it's a one score game. Late.
If I go to our backup, we're probably not going
to win. Carson gives us the best chance to win.
(21:56):
I understand that. I get how hard that is. This
was not that hard. This was it's a three score game.
Your offense has been terrible all night. It's the game
is over and I know he can take him out
of the game. At that point, it's it's okay to
go to your backup quarterback and say, you know what,
not our night. The Charge has been doing it. It's
been It was the best Chargers they played all season long,
in every aspect of the game. Throwing the football, running
(22:17):
the football, defensively, put it all together in that game.
So I so it was an easy decision to say, hey,
you know what time to take Carson Wentz out And
now here I hope Kevin O'Connell feels absolutely awful, so
awful after this, like, yeah, now the guy's out for
the year. Because I didn't think about taking him out
after the game. Yeah, because I think you go back
and remember the comeback he led in that game against
(22:39):
Pittsburgh where he did get injured. So you're wondering, hey,
can you can magic you know, lightning strike twice? No, No,
he was being bludgeoned. Like there was no sense that
suddenly they were going to figure out a protection scheme
that was going to keep him up right like it
was just teeing off one after the next. It was.
(23:00):
It was a rough watch, certainly, and we've seen plenty
of injuries. We haven't even gotten to the Scatabow injury
and all of that stuff. We talked about it briefly
with Jason lockmfora as we got the show underway. But
now you're looking at an injury to Was he your starter? No,
but he became your starter. He became your de facto starter.
And what do they do in the NFL? Better than anything?
(23:23):
They put in rules, policies, procedures and talking points to
protect quarterbacks. Nobody protected Carson wentz Man. They were supposed
to look out for him. I really full few good men.
They were supposed to be looking out for Carson. No, no, no,
pl we were supposed to look out for Willie. You know,
don't have trouble looking out for themselves. We failed on
(23:44):
that private he failed. Did not help Bold Carson. Now
he's gonna have one of those weird contraptions like he's
the dude from office space for the next six months.
Exit about of Fresca exitswel of them. I hope Carson
Wentz gets healthy, hope he's able to come back. I really,
I at the really want to see something. There needs
to be some sort of come up ins for Kevin
O'Connell for this. This is app that's absolutely unforgivable. We
(24:06):
will have more coming up in ninety seconds, but yeah,
more drama at Chavez Ravine. You know why I hate
the bunt, Well, Steve de Seger's gonna tell you right
now with what's trending.
Speaker 3 (24:16):
Oh, the double whammy for Toronto because right before that,
they pinch hit for the slowest runner in the American League,
Alejandro Current ran for him, who happens to be the
guy who hit the three run homer. His bat is
out of the game and they've viewed up their roster.
On top of that, the button was popped up to Freeman,
so they not only don't advance the pinch runner, it's
now one out and the guy is still standing at
(24:37):
first top of the twelfth inning in a classic at
Dodger Stadium, Game three of the World Series, Toronto and
La tied five to five, each team running out of
pitching Emmett Sheen has just gotten barely a ground out
up the middle, so it's two outs, runner at second
in the top of the twelfth, and Sheen is on
for his third inning of relief and Clayton Kershaw is
(24:58):
still pitching in the bulk. And because for all we
know this is going to thirteen or fourteen, Sportsnet in
Canada has made sure to tweet that when a best
of seven World Series is tied at a game apiece
like this one, the winner of Game three goes on
to win the World Series almost seventy percent of the time,
forty two and nineteen the mark for the Game three
(25:20):
winner after it's tied at a game apiece. We still
have a game four and five in LA on Fox
TV Tuesday. Wednesday night also started.
Speaker 1 (25:28):
I really think they played them all. Do they say
gods to day off?
Speaker 3 (25:31):
It's OK, just sleep at the stadium and come back
because it'll go till five pm Fox TV. At about
five pm all the World Series games begin. And by
the way, sho he Otani with this magical game so
far as the Dodger DH and leadoff man. His first
four played appearances, four extra base hits, including a solo
homer to tie the game in the bottom of the
(25:52):
seventh and then he was walked intentionally twice. There had
only been in the history of the World Series as
empty intentional walk once since intentional walks became an official
stat back in the nineteen fifties, it happened to Albert
Pooles once. The great Sarah Lang's pointing out that here
back to back played appearances, it happens to Otani his
(26:16):
last two times up, the guy who got the three
outs out of the Toronto bullpen this past hitting Brayden
Fisher has now appeared in all three games of the
World Series so far, and he was originally drafted by
the Dodgers out of high school in twenty eighteen. He
started his minor league career in southern California in Abell
(26:39):
just became a Toronto Blue Jay in the past couple
of years. This is his first year in the majors.
He went seven to zero, and congrats to him because
he got a scoreless top of the bottom of the eleventh.
We're in the top of the twelfth. It's right now,
two outs and two on she and still on the mound.
Blue Jay's got four runs in the fourth inning tonight.
(26:59):
The key air from second baseman Tommy Edmonds, so two
runs were unearned. Edmund much later in the game with
a key relay throw home to get a blue Jay
runner at the plate. By the way, much earlier today,
the Dodgers Mookie Betts did win the Roberto Clemente Award
for his community involvement, and the Orioles new manager is
Craig Albernaz, who was an assistant in Cleveland. The Monday
(27:22):
night football game at Kansas City went to the Chiefs
twenty eight to seven over Washington. Patrick Mahomes three touchdown
passes in the second half. Former Oakland Raiders safety George
Atkinson passed away at the age of seventy eight. In
the NBA, Utah won in overtime against Phoenix Lowry markin
in fifty one points. Denver a winner at Minnesota. Jamal
(27:42):
Murray scored forty three. Anthony Edwards of Minnesota is out
two weeks. He left Sunday's game with a strain hamstring.
San Antonio beat Toronto to go to four and OH,
and Oklahoma City won at Dallas to go to four
and O. Seventy six ers now three and oh after
beating Orlando forty three points for ty Reece, Maxi and
the Lakers are in action tonight. Believe it or not.
(28:04):
This is a home game that they're now trailing in
the fourth to Portland ninety nine. Make it one oh
one to eighty seven, thirty four points for Austin Reeves.
What a night and guys, as far as is this
one of the best World Series games we have seen
in recent years, This might be one of the best
World Series games of the last twenty years, because usually
(28:26):
if you think the best all time, it's one where
elimination is on the line. This is only game three.
Remember Toronto did play a nineteen ninety three World Series
game where they beat Mitch Williams fifteen to fourteen. It
got six runs in the eighth inning. That was nineteen
ninety three, and then after nine to eleven, those two
classic games at Yankee Stadium back to back against Arizona.
(28:49):
The only other one I could think of that's this
kind of drama was the year that Houston cheated and
they won thirteen to twelve in ten innings in a
game Kershaw started, you know what, I actually have a
different thought of Matt, like I told you earlier tonight,
where thinking about appreciating, being appreciative of show Heyo Tani
and how good he is. I went back to this
(29:12):
generation getting to see show Hao Tani is like if
me growing up in the seventies days I got to
see Ted Williams because that was what I heard about him,
that he was just a mythic person. Because you and
I growing up, you know when you're when in late seventies,
are are people that we were about baseball. Ever saw
Michael Jordan.
Speaker 1 (29:30):
Right and I think about the just the mystique and
the mysticism and how larger than life Ted Williams was
when I thought about what I got to see him. Right.
So now I think about this playoff game, and I
think about this playoff game right now that's in the
top of the twelfth inning, and I think about what
it's like now from the people I know, this generation
(29:53):
that's seeing this World Series game, this generation, I feel
like them seeing this game. Dodge and baseball fans seeing
this game is like me watching Game six of the
eighty six series with the Mets in the Red Sox,
Like that's kind of how I feel they're gonna feel
about this game. How I feel about that eighty six game,
especially the last inning and going on and winning a
(30:15):
night and a little you know, a little roll around
a first base line like that's got That's kind of
how if you're watching this game, that's kind of this
is your generation. That's kind of how I feel that,
that's how that's how crazy historic this game is already.
Speaker 3 (30:29):
And we just had another twist because it looks like
the Dodgers did not get the final out of the inning. Defensively,
there was a roller up along third, a little roller
up along the third base line. Max Munsey, the third baseman,
kept one leg on the third base bag and reached
out for the grounder at the same time and looks
to be safe at third. They're reviewing it. Original call
(30:51):
was out, but it looks like the runners foot might
have gotten there. That would mean bases loaded, two outs. Wow,
and they're making the pitching team and wow, let me
tell you what's happening right now. So a swinging bunch
by Schneider and that's why Max Munthsy was kind of
in no man's land and decides to stay on the
base that he's going to get the ground or come
to him rather than try to get in throw the ball.
Speaker 1 (31:12):
To first. It was a no man's land play and
the runner, after official after official review, was ruled safe.
It was the right call. Dave Roberts has come to
the mound. He claps his hands a couple of times.
Emma Chien is coming out, So two outs the top
of the twelfth inning. Clayton Kershaw is coming into the
(31:33):
game for the Dodgers to try to send this to
the bottom of the twelfth inning. I mean, if you
don't like the baseball's not your thing. If you don't
like this, man, watch something else. And we got to run.
Speaker 3 (31:43):
Both teams are running out of pitchers because if this
actually gets to a thirteenth inning, we're on the top
of the twelfth. Now exactly who to the Toronto Blue
Jays have They've already used seven in the first what
eleven innings up against the Dodger bats tonight, So this
is just a wild World Series game.
Speaker 1 (32:03):
So here we are, Clayton Kershaw coming in with everything
at stake in the top of the twelfth for the
Dodgers coming up next. What can we possibly have the
top this? I don't know, but you're gonna want to
listen because I'm sure we're gonna get something. Kershaw on
the mound, the game and the balance. Jason Smith, Mike Harmon,
this is Fox Sports Radio. Jason, did you say steak? Steak?
(32:25):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific. I don't know, you may you should just
make this a winner take all game. Whoever wins tonight
wins the World Series. That's SaaS Man's stand. You win tonight,
that's it does feel like it has that's kind of
stakes to it. Not on it steaks in a game three. Yes,
(32:51):
to quote the great Howie Rose, if you're a scriptwriter
and you have ideas for a baseball movie, I don't
know that it could go any better than what we've
seen so far tonight. When we lest you, when we
last left you, we need on some of that that
real like bad. Uh. Yeah, when we last left you,
(33:12):
Clayton Kershaw was coming in, bases loaded two outs, top
of the twelfth inning emmach and it pitched well. The
Blue Jays had loaded the bases. What are we going
to get Here's Clayton. I have a pit in my stomach,
going can you imagine Kershaw. Something happens like, oh my god, Kershaw,
his career, everything else. But Dave Roberts comes to get
(33:33):
Clayton Kershaw. Kershaw comes in and he runs a full count.
He runs a full count, and I, I don't know
if you're if you're a Dodger fan, I don't know
how you how you're even breathing at this point. He
runs a full count to Lucas and obviously you know
who's on deck, right, Vlad Junior is on deck. He
(33:54):
gets Lucas hit a little grounder, a slow grounder that
Tommy Edmund has to absent absolutely charge to get there.
He doesn't have enough time to change the ball from
his glove hand to his bare hand, so he scoops
it and shoves it to Freddie Freeman and it gets
Lucas by a hair and we are now in the
(34:15):
bottom of the twelfth inning, tied five apiece. Clayton Kershaw escapes,
and now Tommy Edmund I believe has saved as many
runs as he allowed with his error earlier in the game,
right with four runs for the Blue Jays, with what
he allowed earlier with his error when the ball went
under his glove I want to say he's saved at
least four runs since then. Yeah, I mean we got
(34:36):
a little bit of that Lady Justice kind of scale. Right,
you don't want to see it, so put the blinders on,
and then we hope to find balance and all this.
You can go back to that inning and the Schnyder
on the infield single. Remember he replaced France as a
pinch runner and was thrown out at the plate, who
replaced George Springer who had to leave with what we
(34:56):
believe is an oblique string or something of that. He'll
going back to the seventh inning. So just a strange
convergence of events. But you know, more defensive wizardy. It
feels weird to say that with the Dodgers after what
we have watched all this season and all of this postseason.
But Kershaw gets the big out to get him out
of the top of the twelfth, and here we are
(35:17):
more free baseball. And here's the thing. Is that final
pitch that got Lucas to ground out to second was
a curve that was way off the play. Yeah, this
was low and outside by at least three feet and
it's not And the thing is Lucas not only did
(35:37):
he hit it, but he drove in to pull it
and that's why you know, he topped it and he
hit the ground ball to second base. But that pitch
is outside and it's not even close and that should
have been a but should have been a ball, but
instead he gets them to swing, they get out of
the inning, and it's absolute insanity right now. Well, because
it was crazy at back because on the one to
(35:57):
one pitch he had went on the in side part
of the plate and then you know, we get the
overlay of the box and it's like, yeah, that road
right is straight here, and Clayton was shocked he didn't
get the call, like that's one of those one spawned
time superstar pitcher calls that he did not get in
that spot. And then a good at bat that ultimately
(36:18):
he got him to chase one down and a way. Now,
if this game goes to the thirteenth, you have to
think Kershaw is going to stay in because the Dodgs
are only down to two pitchers now and they're not
guys they want to bring with the game on the line, Like,
if we're gonna lose this game, it's gonna be Clayton
Kershaw so you have to think, I don't know that
he's in the game until it ends, but he's got
The plan has got to be Kershaw's in this game
(36:40):
until we absolutely ought to take him out. Well, you
know what, do you got a couple of outs to
decide whether you need to really think about that anymore.
As Max mounts he gets ready to st you do
have a little bit of time. You got you got
a little bit of time, and you have your offense
to try to take Eric Lauer out out the game.
And the thing is Eric Lowers had a good season
this year too, So the lou Jays, everybody's running out
(37:01):
of pictures. I mean, if you said, hey, whin are
this game wins the world? Too? Like if if Rob
Manford came out and said, okay, what are this game
wins at all? I realize people are gonna lose money,
but yes, yes, yes, yes, yeah, I got I really
I don't know where you go from this game. I
don't know where you go from this game. Well, normally
you go to game four, you would, which might start
right after it might say there we get there when
(37:22):
it's gone long enough that we got that deuse Goslin
number backup of walk off hits going all the way
back to the thirties. As Max Munzie, who had won
in twenty eighteen, strides to the plate. Now you want
to know something crazy, Okay, here's something crazy about this game.
This way it waits. I know, I know. That's mean.
It's an all time great game. We say it's like
(37:43):
the nineteen eighty six Game six of the World Series,
Mets in the Red Sox. That's how good this game is.
This game started at five point fifteen, five fifteen l
A time or West Coast time. Use your good mouth here,
Jay cost eight fifteen on the ECAs. Okay, the Lakers game, Okay,
Lakers and the and the and the Blazers started a
full two hours later. Okay, this game started two hours later.
(38:09):
This Get the Lakers is going to end before this
game does, because there's three minutes left in the fourth quarter.
About that. And then you talk about the Monday night
football game that and that ended about an hour and
a half ago. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, that is long
in the I mean I think Washington has flown home
and there and there, and they're and they're hanging, they're
they're back a while. The games oh, I didn't miss
the end of the game. Great, you know, like go
I got to I'm gonna get to see the end
(38:29):
of the game. But that's cool. I tay Oscar Hernandez
comes up two outs, bottom twelve. I mean, I wonder
do you think it? Uh at Crypto after the game
is over, they just put the Dodger game on. They
would want to stay in why they might have it
on there now? I mean during the television time out?
The hell would you know you put them on instead
of the people are why I'm not even paying attention
to the guy. We're not watching what's going on? It
was funny. They had this stat from the first half
(38:51):
of the Laker game. They had thirty four minutes played
off the bench in the first half, not a single
point score. If this game goes any longer, Ravens Dolphins
might be starting. That's the Yeah, that's Thursday, that's coming.
They got plenty of time to change Lamar Jackson's injury status.
Wait wait, who was it? Okay, I'm going back now
World Series against the World Series when they went to
(39:14):
Game seven, right and it was a big late game
the Dodgers, was it? Lance mccullors that went out to
workout in the in the outfield right after the game
was over. He was starting to pit to starting, pitch starting,
and he went out after the game and he was
working out on the field right after the game ended.
He was doing like all his little whatever. I don't know,
whatever you do well, I mean, I don't know what
do you do it at eleven o'clock at night or
(39:35):
you know, but he was out there doing that. I
want to say it was Lance mccolors. That's a nice
poll from back in the day. I dig that. Now.
It has been a highly entertaining Monday night. We talked
about the sport equinox and everything going on, MLS playoff games,
NBA games, NHL games, Monday Night football, and then obviously
this big one that is delivered in every way imaginable.
(39:58):
Twenty five plus runners left on base, all of these pitchers,
big punch outs and assists from the outfield and second basement,
taking as much as they gave. Just an insane run
of events. We are going to the thirteenth inning, a one, two,
three inning for Eric Lower. Really, I mean that's pretty quick.
(40:20):
That was I mean it was pretty fast. You had
what looked like a tricky fly ball off the bat
of Max Munsey to start the thirteenth inning, but a
nice running catch in shallow right field and then bang
bang Tascar Hernandez pops up to end the inning. So
we are going to another inning. We're going to the
(40:41):
thirteenth and I assume it's going to be Clayton Kersha
out again for the Dodgers. Again. I don't know, but
I mean, Clayton's done. He's been a starting pitcher. He's
the way Steve de Seger is saying he's done. Yeah, Henriquez,
Kershaw's coming out of the game. Wow, oh my goodness,
legacy intact. Yeah, that's true. Yeah that is Hey, come out,
got me out? Okay, all right, I would okay, yeah, okay,
(41:05):
all right, David, Hey, you made the big pitch, got
the big out, and here we go to the nirteenth.
This is the other thing is that I don't know, Like,
I don't know where we go as fans after this game.
Where does Dave Roberts go. He's gonna get to go
and bring in every pitcher from the bullpen for this game.
This is the greatest night he's ever had. He's gonna
get to d He's gonna get to bring in every
pitchure the Dodgers have. That's outstanding. That's outstanding. We know
(41:28):
where you go after this game, but McDonald's McDonald's fair
exit out about a fresco exit swalling down for the
Blue Jays five runs, fourteen hits, no errors. They have
left fifteen men on bass. The Dodgers fifteen twelve two errors,
ten left on base. The greatest World Series games you'll
ever see goes to the thirteenth. Keep it right here.
(41:50):
We have all the latest on this and all the
big NFL stories off a weekend next
