You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Greetings, Welcome in Side hour three, The Jason Smith Show
with my best friend Mike Harmon. Bet live from the
Fox Sports Radio Studios. I am four and a half
minutes away from winning our bet. What bet? What bet? Yeah? Well, okay,
let me take you back to not even two hours ago. Grandpa,

(00:50):
Oh oh, you did it. We bet that there would
be a clean WNBA game. Nothing would hit the floor
other than sweat, sneakers and a basketball. And we are
four and a half minutes away the Aces and the
Valkyrie is the only game tonight of not seeing a
Bilbo Baggins hit the floor in the game tonight. Yeah,

(01:12):
I remember predictions. I don't remember any bads you said.
I I said, what side do you take? You said
there was going to be I said, there was, but
there were no steaks. I'm gonna win our bet. Yeah,
that's fine, steak Yeah, four twenty seven remaining five point game,
make you pick you pay me money. I don't know
remember that all of a sudden, I was gonna have
to show up with a bilbo of my own in

(01:32):
payment or something like that. I don't know ever made
one thousand dollars bet we started the show tonight. Really
don't remember that. To one thousand bucks, you said, sure
we needed more smelling salts or caffeine or something. I
don't know. Montie's got smelling salts for you. She brings
them in every show, every show. She's got around every day,
different flavors and lavender. There's honey, that's just day. You

(01:53):
can buy the three pack for fifteen bucks. Is there
a chocolate flavor smelling salce. I haven't gone that deep
in the reservoir, because boy, that would really be something
that probably is chocolate flavored smelling salts. My chocolate flavored
smelling salt is usually a mocha. Yeah, it's not a
bad move, just smell. Anybody would go get a mocha.
I don't know. I could go for an I could

(02:14):
go for a nine o'clock mocha. I could go for that. Yeah,
someone can make a run to story. But they still
open at nine o'clock. I think the only ones would
be opened, Like are they opened? Well, I mean, look,
you keep defaulting to the ubiquitous Starbucks, which is why
we got into okay, or any any coffee places open
at nine o'clock preveyor a fine coffee. Yeah, well maybe,

(02:34):
I mean you go to Dunkin Donuts and get a
coffee anytime at night. But I mean, yeah, we're gonna
go get I mean I would drink, drink, drink, get
my drink. Gone, We're gonna get my drink. I'm gonna
get gonna get that mocha. I'm gonna have some of that. Yeah,
we'll have to look into that, because I did find
that there are several individual team sponsors. There's no league
wide coffee. They've got the official blank blank blank of

(02:58):
the NFL coffee, but they do not have an official coffee.
That's interesting. Now, Yeah, okay, so the wan Beldez, okay, sure,
and the UH. I found this a little bit earlier
doing a due diligence because we're debating this earlier so
it became this curiosity of well, is there a league
wide sponsor? And the answer is no, but we also

(03:22):
have there's no league. Yeah. Eighth and Roast is the
official coffee partner of the Tennessee Titans. Oh okay, all right,
So those are the only two I found thus far.
Jan Valdez for the Rams. That's I think that's a
that's a void that can be filled. Here. Seems seems
like you're you're partnering up and buying, you know, and
you're saying that you know, you're You're not worried about

(03:44):
the NBA. You're more worried about, you know, Google and
other monstrous companies as your competitor. And what you're aspiring,
who's your official coffee provider, same as the smelling salts provider?
Really no, of course not, you idiot, Now you have
our own. I would assume that Seattle's Best be the Seahawks.
I assume all though, Wow, I don't know Seattle would
have Starbucks two, So that'd be difficult. Man. That's you

(04:06):
talk about a knockdown, drag out battle. Seattle's Best and
Starbucks good luck. Yeah, I don't think they have an
official coffee the loser gets coffee. Beam Day didn't have it. Hey,
if the money's green, I mean it all counts just
the same. But yeah, there's no official and Duncan is closed.
Oh yeah, way to go three and a half minutes away,

(04:29):
and it has been a clean game so far in
the w NBA. Would be the tonight went out of
Bilbo Baggins hitting the floor in a game three and
a half minutes away. Still surprise this. You know you
have the showcase game, but we have two baseball games.
White Sox make a little bit of a game out
of it. A couple of home runs. Uh here, we've

(04:50):
now got a to two game in the ninth as
O'Hearn Homers to make it a two two game. Josea Glaciers,
Oh mg, he's batting for the Trex. Meanwhile, I am
not nearly as concerned about the Matthew Stafford story as
a lot of other people are. Right, So, Stafford's not

(05:12):
been practicing with the RAMS. He's been out, he's gone
to see a spine specialist. He was officially weak to
week a day ago, and today the story comes out
that the Rams they fully expect to have him for
week one of the NFL season, which is a bit
of a woe announcement. Not that, Okay, Matthew Safford's not
going to play that much in the preseason. He's thirty eight. Okay,

(05:32):
I'm worried about that. But whoa, all of a sudden,
the guy that, hey, he's week to week. We'll take
a look at him next week. Now we expect to
have him for week one. That's a bit of an
eyebrow raiser. That's a bit of whoa, whoa, whoa. Matthew
Stafford may not be ready, you expect to have him
for week one, because expecting to have him for week
one means you're not going to see him for a while,
whether it's at practice or coming back or a clean

(05:53):
bill of health like that's gonna be a bit. So
that's a bit of an eyebrow raiser. Now, there's two
big takeaways from this, and the first one is that
this is it? This year? Is it for Matthew Stafford
with the Rams, because every year has been a dance
with Stafford. I want more money, I want to stay.
He's still playing at a high level. But at some

(06:15):
point the Rams understand, all right, we're gonna need to
make a move. We need to make a change. We
won the Super Bowl. Matthew's been great and boy what
he brings to us the back half of seasons has
been terrific. But he's been a back half of the
season guy, and eventually it's just gonna all fall apart
and Stafford's gonna be a guy that can't play, can't
be on the field, and the Rams don't want to
get stuck with the season of Oh we thought this

(06:38):
year would be okay with Stafford and now we wind
up being stuck because he either can't throw it anymore
or we can't stay on the field. Like now, he's
had a back injury that has his status for Week
one up in the air. And it's been the offseason.
It's not been where he got hurt during the season.
He got hit and you just throw your arms up
and go, what do you do? It's tackle football. This
has been preseason. Stafford's gone to see a back specialist,

(07:00):
so bing that's the ring in the air. This is
gonna be the last year for Stafford with la right,
they have Jimmy Garoppolo as a backup. Now stets In
bends back with the team, but this year like this
is this is I feel pretty confident that this is
going to be the final year of Stafford with the Rams,
and then they're going to find a way and they
will move on to whatever is next with them quarterback

(07:21):
wise after this year. Yeah, he signed that two year
what was it, eighty some odd million dollar contract. I mean,
this is it, right, you're talking about, you know, becoming
an unrestricted free agent and moving on last year. A
lot of questions about he's thinking about retirement. No, no, no,
he had fifty plus million reasons to come back, and

(07:42):
he had a great run. Right. He had a four
game stretch that accounted for half of his touchdowns in
the regular season, and you can't deny the results. He
was great in the playoffs and gave them a big
chance late. But it's like we talk about with the Bengals,
at some point, you have to start to see and
well in spite of some injuries around you and trying

(08:03):
to work in a new offensive line and all of
those things that you did. He he ended up with
a If you just look at his overall stat line,
it was fairly pedestrian for the year, right, twenty touchdowns,
nothing to write home about. We had others that we
categorically dismissed that did much the same right, touchdowns across

(08:24):
the league weren't at the same level. So trying to
parse out what's good what's noise. But you're not gonna
pay him fifty five million to come back now, And
did you expect anything, Like we were talking with Jason
Cole last hour, It's not like you were expecting to
take heavy reps in any preseason games or really do
any work. But the inability to practice at all, no,
that's not good. Yes, and getting Jimmy Garoppolo reps probably

(08:49):
comes back and is to your benefit later on whatever
is real and noise about his relationship with DeVante Adams
because we keep trotting out that footage from Las Veig guess,
which was fun theater, you know, behind the scenes and
on the sidelines and whatever else. But now it's the
moving forward. When you've got a guy taking up that

(09:09):
much of your cap, you've got a young team and
a lot of these guys are gonna need to get paid, right,
So you bringing him back unless he's doing a I'll
take half, which ain't gonna happen. You're gonna move on.
But the bigger question is okay, So now for this year,
you call me crazy, and I know Matthew Stafford is

(09:29):
Matthew Staffor you're crazy. But if Jimmy Garoppolo has to
play for a little while, the Rams will be fine,
all right, Number one, it's not the Stafford's been great
out of the shoot the last couple of years, not
at all. But no matter what the Rams do, no
matter what button Sean McVay pushes, it's the right one.
He has always found the right way and the right

(09:50):
balance of players to bring in with a high end
guys who are high maintenance or older and talented, and
a young up and coming mix. And that's worked for
the better part of the last decade for the Rams.
They found the way to mix. They bring in some
crazy sometimes, but it works because they have young players
that all of a sudden show up out of nowhere
and it's wow, all of a sudden. Pooka Nakua is

(10:12):
a Pro Bowl wide receiver his first year. Kyen Williams
is a fifth round draft pick and is an afterthought
and now here. He is what probably a top seven
to eight running back in the game. Gets a big contract,
say right, like whatever, Sean McVeigh does. He presses the
right button, and he's not bringing in Jimmy Garoppolo to
be a back at to say, well, whatever, we need

(10:33):
a guy like he knows. Okay, Matthew Stafford isn't at
this point in his career. He had the health problems,
but that was a long time ago. But no, it's
at this point in his career. Okay, Stafford's not the
healthiest guy. He's not going to bring in somebody to
put on the field. He doesn't think can succeed in
the system. And I have no doubt that if Jimmy
Garoppolo had to play, he would do absolutely fine in
this system with the rams, and they would not be
missing a lot because the rams, they have so many

(10:55):
interchangeable parts. Like Kyen Williams is terrific, but he made
it work with cam Akers. They signed eyes off the
street that come out and rush for fifty yards. And again,
this guy's sitting on his couch and all of a
sudden he shows up, Hey, eight rushers for fifty five
yards in front. He was he wasn't even practicing, yep.
But that's what Sean McVeigh does. The system works, and
he knows the players that work in his system. He

(11:15):
knows what to get out of him. He's got such
an incredible eye for talent, whether it's older, middle of
the pack, younger. I have no doubt that if Jimmy
Garoppolo had to play for a little while, things would
be okay. Now you get down to Stetson Bennett, you
dont know what you're getting. But if Garoppolo's got a play, Yeah,
you talked about the connection he had, you know him
and DeVante Adams, and he's seen it. He's been to
a Super Bowl, the Rams will be just fine. But

(11:36):
that's the other thing. You've got proof of concept of
a guy that is he a world beater. No, but
you're not asking him to come in and throw fifty touchdowns.
You're not asking him to throw for forty five hundred
yards if he's got to play for an extended period
of time. Last year, Matthew Stafford, like I said, ten
of his touchdowns came in four games. A lot of
his yardage in those four games, important games. It was

(11:58):
a four game stretch with that huge with that huge
Buffalo game. But even in the playoffs, what are you
banking on your ability to control the ball and play defense.
That's what they're built to do. Right now. Jimmy Garoppolo
can do that for you. He can be that guy
to bridge it. Can he go out and win a shootout?
Probably not. You're probably in a difficult spot there, But

(12:21):
I'm not saying you wouldn't be there with Matthew Stafford
as well. He's not gonna come in and wing the
ball around. That's not how they were winning. It was
about operational efficiency. Don't turn the ball over. Kyron Williams
got paid commensurately for what he was able to do.
You've got Blake Korm. You're anticipating once again that you're
going to play defense and run the football. I like

(12:43):
that little Aaron Donald thing going off in the side. Hey, Micah,
I might come out of retirement if you so you
throw that up in there. So that's all fun at
finding good chald who was what sleeping during the opening game?
Right last year? There's a video of him watching the
m Monday Night Football. He was sleeping. But go back
to last year, there were multiple points where it looked
like this team was going to sell even when it

(13:05):
was first constructed. You and I doing shows and talking
about it's like, I don't know, it seems kind of
haphazard some of the reporting and what we're hearing of
how things were coming together in terms of the the
brain trust and GM and whatever. And it's worked, and
they've they've pushed all the right buttons to this point.
You've got a defense that's young and hungry, with a

(13:26):
lot of guys that will become a household names before long.
But you're also in a division that San Francisco. If
the band's back together and healthy, they're ready to play Arizona.
You and I have talked a bit about it. As
we start more in the preview, they did some things
that you kind of have to like, Seattle's not suddenly
gonna fall off a cliff, even though it's an I mean,

(13:47):
it's ex jet now good. So all that all that
to say, you've got guys and a division that's gonna
be a lot more difficult to navigate, but you've got
a guy in Garoppolo who's seen it and who's work
through it. And then look, there's very few coaches I
trust more than Sean McVay with situations like this. He's
like he's at the top of the list like good.
I think they could lose a quarter. But no, whatever

(14:09):
plan he has is gonna work, because every plan I've
seen him have has worked. Everything has worked, no matter
he put every single guy that's coming. And when you're
not useful, we move on. We bring somebody else. New
here comes somebody out of nowhere. They do it every
single year. It's amazing what the Rams have done. Just
don't turn the ball over. That defense will be good
enough to keep you in games. Exit out about a
fresca exit swollen dome. Jason Smith Mike Harmon Live from

Speaker 1 (16:07):
Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon. I woke up from a dream today
and saw the Mets didn't get no hits. Yeah, I
account my victories. Find your wins. Baby, jan Sono hit
a home run that looks good. Seven hundred what was
it seven eighty ish a million that you signed him for. Yeah, yeah, no,

(16:29):
he's been so you could say, now that's twenty six
home runs as I met. Yeah. No, and it's good
that at least we didn't get no hits. No, it's good. Yeah,
because really, look the embarrassment like when you're getting hit
in the ninth inning, it's embarrassing already. So it's almost
like you got no hit. The world is watching, but
you don't get no hit. Okay. The worst thing would
have been that if if they got no hit, is that,

(16:50):
how many times would Frostburg have played the final call
seven the game today? Yeah? I mean more than that,
I think I think you're being not saying we needed that.
We don't need that tight shirt. There was no.

Speaker 2 (17:07):
Chances gets hit alive.

Speaker 1 (17:11):
Didn't need it on the field and it's live, didn't
need it. Well, I mean it's marks the beginning of
a new NFL campaign. When we start hearing all that,
I mean that means we're at football season because it
goes into hibernation for a little while. Yeah, I don't
know about that. I think, yeah, yeah, we get that,

(17:32):
or the fail Mary or something else. Crazy. Really haven't
had that or tebow in a yea, we had tebow
just the other night. We had TBO just talk about.
But it's a point of the return of football to
where tebow becomes something that's on the brain. Yes, because
we've done months without it before the other day, sure, okay,

(17:54):
all right, that t ball Okay, we just had it
the other day. Likewise, the butt fumble we hadn't had
in a while. It's really when T shirt's paying attention,
that's really what it is. It's not about football. Might coffee.
That's where ready to go, President Button presle the buttons. Coffee, coffee, coffee, coffe, coffee,
CoFe coffee Cofeuh But I mean really, that would have
been the worst part of tonight would have been hearing

(18:15):
the final call and a no hitter for what Williams
has thrown on the one hundred and seventy eighth pitch
of the game, because boy, you knew the Guardians will
leave him out there to finish it. He no hits
the new woodn'ts. I mean, really, when I saw him
at one hundred and ten hundred eleven pitches. I said, oh,
they're just gonna leave him out there for this note
he's gonna throw one hundred and twenty five pitches and

(18:36):
get this. No, you're nineteen and a half games back
in the division or no, yeah, nineteen and a half right, yeah,
you're forty five and sixty eight. Yeah, you're running him
out there. As long as he's telling you there's no
twinge and he still has feeling in his arm, he's
going out there. Yeah. No, Well, the Guardians are better
than that. They're they're better than that. But it's still sorry,

(18:56):
I'm looking at I'm sorry, looking at the White Sox. No, no, oh, hey,
come on, the White Socks are badly back. They're eight six.
It's eight six now, Sorry, I conflated my more runs
than they've scored the secondary teams. This congratulations on a
six run night for it. I mean you're gonna lose,
but congratulations a couple of home runs. I mean, you
may make it exciting, but yeah, Guardians are no good. No,

(19:20):
I mean, look, the Mets are now looking behind, going, hey,
five games above here, come to Marlins a little bit,
hang on a second. That would have been the worst
part of tonight. That would have worst probably, like okay,
because I really I thought about that. I'm going, all right, no,
no hitter. That means I don't have to hear the
final call of this game a thousand times. So okay, well,
I mean he's still he only scored one run. It
doesn't matter. We didn't get no hit. He didn't get
No that's the big thing. And tomorrow and tomorrow it's

(19:42):
just a loss. Like to celebrate Williams start. Yeah, yeah, cool,
you went eight and two thirds. That's great. Yeah, but
it's just a loss. Yeah. So it's just a loss,
which we've had one of them. So it's a list
of losses. Now you're not helped by the fact that
the Yankees actually won a game. Now you're the spotlight
loser in New York. The Mets sucking, they can they

(20:04):
can no longer hide behind the Yankees, they can no
longer hide. Well, well, you have to stand up to
the losses on your own. Everybody's cool, man. As long
as the Yankees keep losing, we can we can lose
like this and oh no, no, no, no, Now we're
standing front and center. Okay, the Yankees one today. Now
are our foibles are all apparent? And now the sky
is falling, of course. And look, the Mets have been terrible.

(20:27):
They haven't. They haven't gotten pasted a loss to the
Rays where they blew a six to one lead in
the middle of June. They've been like they're like eighteen
and twenty seven. They've been terrible for the better part
of two months. Yeah, bad man, today you lost to
a guy that's pretty good. Yeah, but it doesn't matter.
We lose, We lose the teams the guys are bad,
doesn't matter. We the teams that are five hundred. These
teams that are about five hundred are coming in sweeping series.

(20:49):
It's not like, hey, if we come in got swept
by the Dodgers or got swept by the Astros. Okay,
I get that, but we're getting swept by teams that
are five hundred. They gave up at the deadline. Yeah
we're done. Sorry, Oh we're gonna come in and win
two out of three or you're getting excitable again. This
is the Mets have the same record right now as
they did when they went to the series in twenty fifteen. Yeah, okay,

(21:09):
I know it. Feels different. It feels it because we're
using the way different. No, it's it's a lot of baseball. Yeah,
play which is good or bad? Well, considering we're in
a playoff spot, now it's good or bad. I mean
Williams is seven and four with a three one seven
e ra. So he's good. He's not Kershaw in his prime.
He's not prime to grom where boys e ra is

(21:30):
one point three, he can get it under one. Now
you're doing that thing where you're grabbing the best of
what we've seen. But the Mets songs better than average.
It's tough. What whatever, whatever talent level the other team
doesn't matter. Yeah, but yesterday, all of a sudden, it
was like you took a you know, a gummy to
mellow yourself out. It's like, you know, we're actually overachieving.

(21:52):
We're not really that good man. Mets gummies. Man, that's gummy.
Do they have it? Do they have an official CBD
gummy sponsored the Big shape? Mister Mets head? You have that,
mister Mets Head gummy? What's there's one that's got a difficulty,
that's one you're early having a bad day. You have
one that's extra strength, need an extra strength Mets gummy.

(22:15):
It's it's one of those days when mister Mets heads
just a little bit larger for when you really need.
But No, yesterday you were going into the well, we've
really overachieved because we've been hurt, we've had these problems yesterday,
and I told you that was gonna happen. You're gonna
fall back into the No, my expectations were, and this sucks.
And maybe you read a couple of more Jets articles

(22:37):
which puts you back into Hey, maybe the Mets aren't
so bad. I'm riding the lightning. Meanwhile, in another story,
now they're campaigning to be the halftime show for the
super Bowl. Well, they got their own channel coming up
soon on serious Like the Metallica channel starts in like

(22:57):
a month or so. Yeah, you think they would have
had one by now. I think you would have done
this a long time ago and just taken the cash
and just been done with it. They could really replace,
which is the one they could really place, like Octane,
which I'm like, every song is exactly the same. I
just remember that every song. But the last time the
super Bowl was up there in the Bay Area, they

(23:19):
played a show before the Super Bowl and we went
to a food truck. You had a beer and sat
and listened to the show from a perfect location. It's
like they put the food trucks where they figured out
where the acoustics were the best. Now you didn't have
the visuals, you ain't get the pyrotechnics, but man, it
sounded great. What a great show. And then we saw
Jefferson airplane. Right, wasn't it the one pill makes So

(23:43):
if I didn't have enough today to worry about, now
I have to worry about the Patriots. Right. Oh, you
should have worried about them all better than you, even
when they were bad. Yeah, they even stuck, they stunk.
We retired Belichick. He couldn't beat us in it was
his last game in the NFL. To be fair, decided
to take as you know, like the old wrestling handicap match.

(24:06):
On one he took the guy that was a defensive
coordinator with the pencil behind his ear and said, look,
we're so confident, you suck. I'm gonna have that guy
and he's gonna be my offensive coordinator. We retired. He
was done. We retired to He walked off that field
for the last time with the big mask over his face,

(24:26):
the big woolen mask. Oh yeah, we retired Belichick, but
the cupboard had been bare. But here, but this is
why what concerns about the Patriots afterday And it's one word,
and you hear it a lot, and sometimes it's overstated,
but in this case it's not. And that's culture, right
everything you Jake Glazer comes on the show with us
during football season all the time, and he talks about
culture and he talks about teams that have the violent

(24:49):
culture that works for them and building team and building
team camaraderie. And I'm happy and I get to the
point where it's not so much for this year, but
after this year, boy, I really think there's a couple
of teams culture wise you're gonna be able to take
that next big step. Right, Like, I'm a firm believer
that Aaron Glenn in the culture he is setting with

(25:10):
the Jets thirty year away from suddenly being a team
you have to take serious, right, He's got to come in,
he's got to set things up. They're signing the players
they want to. He's building the culture. He's a great
culture builder. He learned about it with Dan Campbell. He
gets Rave Reviews. I love everything about Aaron Glenn, everything,
what he's done, the anti Robert Sala. You're not gonna
see those the same mistakes. There's gonna be more accountability.

(25:32):
He came from the school of Bill Parcells. I love it.
Now this year they're gonna take their lumps, mainly because
Justin Field stinks. But next year I can see I
can see that sort of Lions type rise because he
knows how I'm this is how I'm gonna build my
program right why he was part of what they just
didn't detroit it. But I just say I know what
to do. I know how we're gonna do it. It's

(25:53):
gonna be different, obviously, different personnel. I'm not gonna just
bring over I'm and Ross Saint Brown unless they don't
want to pay him. But a year from now, I'm
digging in that. And I feel the same way about
the Patriots. The Patriots are still a team that talent wise,
they're gonna need a little bit more. But seeing the
story today where Rabel goes in at the joint practice

(26:14):
today with the commanders to break up a fight and
he comes out with a bloody cheek and he addresses
the team right after, like he's Mel Gibson in Brave Heart.
Let's go go bra and to see all the players
after practice just say glowing things about him, whether it
was to Mario Davis or Ramandre Stevenson, all these guys
just talking about what it meant for him to come

(26:35):
in and do this, to show them what it was like.
Drake May, you know, talked about it too. You can
tell that he is building the right culture in New
England right like like last year it wasn't the same,
it wasn't working. You don't want to be the guy
that follows Bill Belichick, even though he left the cupboard
empty for you in terms of talent. I'm gonna try
to win without any talent and when I go there's

(26:57):
gonna be nobody there that's any good. But Drake May
did flash at times last year and vrabel is he
was the number one guy I want. Hey, you can
go after a guy this offseason. You've seen Rabel winning
situations in Tennessee where boy, he makes the right decisions,
wins under the radar. Now he goes back to a
team where he started as a player and he's getting
the buy in and just seeing the way the players

(27:20):
talked about him following what happened in practice today can
tell you they are following him. It's not a case of, well,
the coaches here and we have to find our way
where we have to do our own thing on the
field and kind of find a way to make it
mesh with the message the coaches are sending us, because
maybe we're not We're maybe we're not believing in the
coaching staff as much, we're not believing in the message

(27:41):
as much. The message is a little muddled, and so
it's not quite on the same page. You can tell
they're all on the same page with Rabel. So maybe
not this year because you need more talent in that building,
but next year. Like at the same time, if I'm
believing in the Jets for this time next year with
Aaron Glenn setting the culture, I'm so believing in the
Vrabel and the Patriots for setting the culture. Stories like
this today just amp your legend. But you can see

(28:02):
that they're they're already on board follow whatever verbel wants. Yeah,
I think you look at it. A guy like Rabel,
the Peltzer on the wall. He's a guy that's not
that far removed and he's had a nice long coaching tenure,
but he's not that far removed towards like you know,
he was a player, and he has that mentality and
he has that bit about him, the stuff we talk
with Jay Glazer about all the time. Can't wait for

(28:23):
he's back in the mix after his Glazer Palooza run
of training camps this year. But it's just the idea
of a guy that has been in NFL locker rooms,
has played at the highest level, and he goes in
and it's a no nonsense approach. Right, you're coming in
and you know what he wants to do. It's not
about putting up fifty points a game. It's about grinding out,

(28:47):
not turning the ball over and playing defense. Cut from
that Belichick mold. That's how he won in Tennessee. It's
that same idea. Now, it's funny that you quote Romandre Stevenson.
First thing he's gotta do is he almost the football. Yeah,
he's gonna be sitting on his assy. Now he's gonna
be standing around next. Henry was saying great things about

(29:09):
it's like every single guy was just and.

Speaker 2 (29:11):
It was more.

Speaker 1 (29:12):
It was more. It was more so than just the Hey,
coach is crazy. Hey coach, this is you see the mentality.
That's what he's trying to impart to us. It's what
we're trying to get. This is not just boy coaches
not say that was kind of fun. This was wow.
You know, he's he's showing us. He's showing us exactly
how he wants us to to act and how we
want to build this team. And we are completely on

(29:33):
board with betting odds. Right now, they're the second favorite
in the division, far behind the Buffalo Bills, ahead of
whatever is going on with McDaniel and company in Miami.
Keep trying to parse out those words. And of course
your jets bringing up the rear. You can get them
at a at a good price at sixteen to eighteen
to one to win the division. All right, it's not bad.
That's so bad. And if Justin Fields completes more than
two passes in a practice, get better. Yeah, No, I

(29:55):
think you might be right about that. Today he was
actually seven out of sixteen today. I think seven out
of sixteen. There were more things thrown on w NBA
courts tonight, oh than completions for Justin Fields. I think
you want to say they were they were about five
more interceptions than they were throwing. Yeah, they're over under wind.
Total is either five and a half or six and
a half, depending on you wasted time looking that up.

(30:21):
Over under it. I just want to know where my
under her threshold is. That's all always bet the under
Let's find out what's trending in the wide world of
sports with someone else who also most likely had a
better day than justin fields. It is Monty Belonga.

Speaker 4 (30:33):
Yeah, not too shabby.

Speaker 1 (30:34):
Better day than justin field. Yeah, okay, hang it out
with us. That's gotta be plus exactly you exactly say.
You could say I had a flat tire, my car
got keyed, and the bank called me to say they
stole my identity, and you would still be having a
better day than justin fields. Probably facts sax that third one.

Speaker 5 (30:54):
The last three games baseball have wrapped up bellas the
Padres came back to feet the Diamondbacks three to two,
scoring two runs in the ninth inning to complete this
comeback win. They are now just two games behind the
Dodgers in the NL West because the Dodgers earlier today
lost to the Cardinals at home five to three.

Speaker 4 (31:13):
Show Tani did a little bit of everything.

Speaker 5 (31:16):
They handed out a World Series Otani ring to everybody
while most people in attendance, and he pitched four innings,
struck out a home run number thirty nine on the season,
which was also his thousandth career.

Speaker 1 (31:27):
What a day. Fort Dodgers won? What nine to one,
twelve to two? What was the final tonight?

Speaker 4 (31:31):
We're back down to one? Bobblehead?

Speaker 5 (31:34):
Got it?

Speaker 1 (31:35):
Did they only give up today? Yeah? Right? So they
did the normal.

Speaker 4 (31:40):
They did the normal.

Speaker 5 (31:41):
Yeah, the bobblehead have they done like a guaranteed if
you have a ticket, you get one?

Speaker 4 (31:46):
Correct? Today?

Speaker 1 (31:47):
One thousand people left forty Yeah, No, it was pretty
It was like forty four and change is what it
was in the Is.

Speaker 4 (31:54):
That the number? They said? Is that what the final number?

Speaker 1 (31:56):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (31:57):
It seemed busy.

Speaker 5 (31:57):
It seemed busy, but I will tell you I gave
We gave.

Speaker 4 (32:00):
Tours this morning, as we always do, and there was a.

Speaker 5 (32:03):
Gentleman came in and I was like, oh, your tour
is leaving, and he's like, you know, I actually I
just want a Dodger dog.

Speaker 4 (32:08):
I'm gonna leave. I've done the tour, it's great. I
just wanted to get the ring and get out of
the way and get a Dodger dog. We don't like
operate during the tour like that.

Speaker 5 (32:16):
It's until gates open for the general public, because this
is all happening before. And so this gentleman paid for
a pregame tour to get in early, got his ring,
and when I told him that the Dodger Dog wouldn't
be available until eleven in the morning, he's like, yeah,
I'm gonna go.

Speaker 4 (32:28):
Thank you though, and locked out and he's like, I'll
see you Friday for Kobe Bobblehead.

Speaker 5 (32:32):
And I said, oh, okay, he was straight home.

Speaker 4 (32:39):
Yes, that's what it was so early in the morning.

Speaker 1 (32:41):
What if he asked for helmet nachos?

Speaker 4 (32:44):
Good luck, sir.

Speaker 5 (32:45):
I hope you have a helmet notcho at home to
make your own during during the pregame tours.

Speaker 4 (32:50):
We're not like operating fully like that yet.

Speaker 1 (32:52):
Yeah, hot dog, not.

Speaker 4 (32:58):
At nine thirty in the morning. You can, you know,
one to eleven.

Speaker 1 (33:00):
I go for a hot dog at nine this guy wanted.

Speaker 4 (33:07):
And you know, I walked him over to one of
the concessions. I was like, are you guys open, and
the girls like no.

Speaker 1 (33:11):
I was like, I'm sorry, we's got twenty bucks.

Speaker 4 (33:13):
But I tried.

Speaker 5 (33:14):
I tried to get him a hot dog, and then
he left happily with his.

Speaker 4 (33:17):
Ring, So don't worry about it.

Speaker 5 (33:19):
The Mariners White Sox gave him a little bit of
you know, a shake there at the end. Yes, but
the Mariners held on eight to six to beat Chicago.
The Royal snapped the Red Sox seven game winning streak.
They came out on top today seven to three. Brewers
have won six in a row, topping the Braves five
four and completing the sweep. The Marlins avoided the sweep
with the six to four win over the Astros. Twins

(33:41):
defeated the Tigers earlier today nine to four. Yankee snapping
their five game losing streak with the three to two.

Speaker 4 (33:48):
Victory over the Rangers. And yes, you guys already talked
about it.

Speaker 5 (33:51):
Almost a no hitter today from Guardians pitcher Gavin Williams.
No hitter in the ninth inning was one out away
and then Juan Soto hits a home run. Cleveland still
wins that game four to one. WNBA action, no action
necessarily that we were hoping for, Harman. I thought that
there was gonna be some flying out there. Yeah, disappointing,
but the Aces defeated the Valkyries seventy eight to seventy two.

(34:13):
Asia Wilson twenty seven points in the win. When it
comes to the NFL, Panthers, cornerback JC Horn was in
a car crash this morning needed stitches on his left hand.
It's considered day to day, but is gonna miss Friday's
preseason game against the Browns.

Speaker 4 (34:28):
Quarterback Jaden Daniels.

Speaker 5 (34:29):
Will not play in Washington's preseason opener against the Patriots. Titans,
quarterback Cam Ward and the starters are going to play
in every preseason game for at least a little bit.
Coach Brian Callahan said that today, despite confusion around the league,
players will still be able to whift smelling salts during
this season as long as they bring their own stash.

Speaker 1 (34:48):
That's the thing.

Speaker 5 (34:49):
So apparently the league is banning the smelling salts O
that ban only applies to clubs, providing it to players.

Speaker 1 (34:56):
Who Dodgers have smelling salts. Bobblehead Day.

Speaker 4 (34:58):
That would be fun. Okay, all right, who's going to
be smelling this all.

Speaker 1 (35:03):
Smelling? Because yes they will, they will.

Speaker 4 (35:06):
Right, I know they will. If he wants it anything
he wants they do.

Speaker 1 (35:09):
Okay, surprise hasn't already had three different posts.

Speaker 4 (35:13):
Decoy was there today?

Speaker 1 (35:14):
He was?

Speaker 4 (35:15):
He was there today, Yes, and so was missus Otani.

Speaker 1 (35:18):
Oh and the Dodgers was the score? What they win today?

Speaker 4 (35:22):
Now we're negative kicking hair, hand those bubble heads back.

Speaker 5 (35:25):
To you guys, now you.

Speaker 1 (35:28):
Thank you, You're on the hook now Smith, he had
seven more strikeouts than you had hits, sure, sure, and
he looked great. He had than Justin Fields had completions
today or maybe the last three days. Coming up next, Hey,
one Sport had a huge night tonight. Way do we

(35:48):
tell you why? That's next Jason and Mike.

Speaker 2 (35:51):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific, Fox.

Speaker 1 (36:03):
Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with My best friend
Mike Harmon. It is because I got angry up in here.
So in the first hour of the show, Mike and
I made a bet. He now owes me one thousand
dollars ish, Yeah, we'll go back and check the tape
on it. Uh. We had a clean game in the
WNBA tonight one game and of course, you know, the

(36:25):
entire world is waiting as someone gonna throw a Bilbo
Baggins on the floor again, like they did last night,
and like they tried to do it a couple other games,
third time in the last seven days. Aces Valkyrie's the
only game there was none for good game too. Nothing
hit the floor, No Neon Green, Bilbo Baggins, nothing did

(36:45):
not hit the floor, No one from the Shire, nothing else.
We did not see it. We did not see Sam
Wise or any because if it was a non Neon Green,
it would have to be Sam Wise or another character
from the Lord of the Winnings. Yest me go, was
it Billbo Beggin sleek alive? Now? I would have said,
went straight to the gollum. You know, look this is

(37:07):
you know, you know, like I've been saying that America
twenty twenty five, The biggest, the biggest story of the
night going tonight was was someone gonna throw a sex
toy on the floor again, a big Neon Green sex
toy on the floor of a WNBA game again. Instead
we get a seventy eight seventy two win the Aces
over the Valkyries twenty seven for Wilson fourteen off the

(37:28):
bench for Jewel Lloyd. I mean, but really everybody, everybody wins.
If you were expecting to see something from the floor
and you didn't see it was all the anticipation, And
that's that's kind of the difficult part the last week,
that that's now become the expectation. All right, what chaos
will we see tonight as opposed to the actual basketball game. Yeah,

(37:50):
because it's happened twice in Valkyries game, so we're seeing
if you got the hat trick. Yeah, so happily. I
think for the w NBA players, they can actually just
talk about the game tonight. I mean, really, just just
think about if everybody wore the Neon Green sneakers, if
they threw it on the floor, you wouldn't be able
to tell. You got a bunch of feet going around,
you got twenty feet on the floor. At one point
you Neon green would it would just fall in. You

(38:11):
wouldn't be able to tell what it was. But how
bad is it that you've got to be and be
looking around, Like yesterday we watched it fly on to
the court and you had to have Kelsey plumb booted off.
But now it's the question of now you step on.
What did you think, because now you got all the
Neon Green shoes. Man, I might miss it if it

(38:31):
comes flying in because we saw the odds. It was
Neon Green's taking off of the odds board, because that's
the obvious. Now it's everything else, that's what's marketplace. Is
it the same person is the same person doing is
it some sort of an eighteen year old bit? Is
it some sort of like well, not same person, but
is it the same group of people?

Speaker 3 (38:52):
Like?

Speaker 1 (38:52):
Is it some sort of web thing where hey, people
are doing this all the like like the like I say,
it's like a TikTok trend of Oh, people are doing
this at games. Now, people are doing this at schools,
people are doing this at coffee shops. It just becomes
now part of that thing, Like is that what we're
seeing in this event? Hopefully it doesn't eventually be a
fed and it will go away. But I hate to
say it, but I mean, I think we're gonna see

(39:13):
it again. I just didn't think we'd see it tonight
because one game, everybody paying attention to it. If somebody
doesn't gets caught because it's the one game on national TV,
it would be a really bad thing for the person
who did it, and so hey, the next time we'll
see it. You don't know when it's gonna happen again.
You can't do it all the time. Hey, there's more
games tomorrow night or the next there's a big, fuller schedule.

(39:34):
You don't know exactly where it's gonna be at, and
you're trying to figure things out and stop that from happening.
That's when you'll see it again. Yeah, it was just
the curious curiosity, right, and they find the culprit from yesterday.
You actually had it make physical contact with Sophie cunning
in ye So now you can upgrade what you're charging

(39:55):
with right in terms of attempted versus actual assault. And
remember we saw it little more than once yesterday, but
only twice. Only once did it make it onto the court.
The other two times and other games it made it
on the floor and didn't make it onto the court.
Whoever threw it didn't throw it far, and I didn't
have the arm to make sure they could throw it
all the way to the floor. Now, according to a

(40:15):
report from Yahoo Sports, a second person was arrested for
throwing it because it hit a man and his nine
year old niece in the stands, so not even the
one that got to the court. So you know the
proliferation of that recognizing that there's a penalty to be paid.
I gotta think you go on a registry if you're
the person that threw oh yeah, yeah yeah kids, oh yeah.

(40:40):
You just think about it. You know, a lot, a
lot of family, a lot of camps and whatever go
into these games, so you're you're adding a whole other
level of problems. The w's gotta find a way to
take care of this. Like now it's like there there's
no more. Hey, we can we can kind of wink
and nod at it. We don't want to make it
a big thing. We wanted to stop as bad as

(41:00):
we can, but we don't want to turn it into something. No,
it's it's happening. You got you gotta go out and
get out and get on the forefront of this and
do something to make sure it doesn't happen. Exit out
about a Fresco exit swollen dome. We have a big
story coming your way next. Fox
