Speaker 3 (00:47):
Should be second red card for Mexico. They're playing with nine.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
I think they're down to four now, actually up eighty
six the minute of a game in which, look, the
United States has had the better of the play against
Mexico the past few years, but this is as dominant
a game as I have seen them play. All of
(01:11):
this with the backdrop of Greg Burhalter is coming back
to coach the US men.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
Maybe players don't know yet that broke after kill. Maybe
they're playing well because they don't know.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
They all know it's a reverse boycott because they don't
want you. We couldn't score under him, because he's a
bad offensive coach. You We're going to score all night tonight.
You watch us score all these goals tonight. So the
United States is crushing Mexico. They'll play Canada in the
final on Sunday. It's three to nothing in the eighty
six minute, and things got really chippy. In the seventieth minute.
(01:42):
You had a couple of red cards shown, and Western
McKenny of the United States got a red card. Surprise,
Wester McKenny gets a red.
Speaker 3 (01:48):
Card as sticking up for a player who was blatantly
fouled with a full swing a kick of.
Speaker 1 (01:54):
This is Mexico as chippy and as dirty as they
have been in a game. They're getting crushed.
Speaker 3 (01:59):
That's saying something.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
So it's three nothing and and ser Gino Desk has
the ball near the flag and he has control of it,
and a couple of Mexico players come in at him
and they get really physical. It looks like he gets
a shot from behind, but he turns out of the play,
and then he gets kicked in the mid section, and
Desk finals like okay, you hit me once, Okay, second time?
(02:23):
Uh uh. And then another big brew haha starts and
Desk is in the middle of it. Everybody is trying
to get at him. They're throwing beer and all kinds
of drinks at the players at the corner at the
flag and now the United States is it goes on
for about four minutes. The referee is just showing yellow
(02:44):
cards to everybody, and it's it's it's becoming an insane
moment on the pitch right now for the United States
trying to hold onto this thing. There's gonna be about
twenty five extra minutes of night.
Speaker 3 (02:55):
Yes, and I relily they've just taken Christian polistics subbed
him out.
Speaker 1 (02:59):
But I think he's get a yellow. Gand see on
the way out leaving the field, did he just get
how did he get a yellow?
Speaker 3 (03:07):
Was it not in a timely manner? He was going
out for the sub You're I don't know, there's no
action happening. You've just issued a couple more reds. Dest
is out.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
I mean, I don't know, do you do you? Because
he forgot. You know, when you leave you have to
hear the cap arm band, you give the arm Did
he not give the armband in the timely manner? And
he got a yellow.
Speaker 3 (03:23):
I don't understand he's getting it because he scored two goals. Okay,
now it's nine on nine for the last ten fifteen minutes.
I'm not kidding.
Speaker 1 (03:35):
This is like you twelve when I coached soccer. When
I coached you twelve, at a high level, we played
nine on nine.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
There was there was a game I saw with El
Salvador once where they knew they were gonna lose, and
guys just started to fake injuries and eventually, one by
one they started getting kicked out and they were down
to nine and down, and finally the ref said, I
get it. Let's just abandon the game, and they didn't
play the ninety minutes. By the way, those lines mighty
(04:01):
l Salvador tuning up for that Gold Cup on FS
one lost its tune up game six nothing to Japan today.
So close one, yeah, another close one.
Speaker 1 (04:10):
I had. I had them, I was getting five goals.
I was so close. I was so close. I mean,
is it is absolute insanity? Now it is and Trey
Sasso is trending, which is awesome.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
We've just had a suspension of the game due to
the discriminatory chance from the Mexican fans.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
Yet again, really that's a surprise.
Speaker 3 (04:29):
Really the referee has stopped the match.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
Yes, at the moment, Yes, it has stopped because of
the because there's look, at any time you go to
a soccer match, there's messages before the game from the
players saying, hey, please, don't you know the chant that
happens during goalkicks all the time.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
They've been fined for often, right, and you.
Speaker 1 (04:46):
Know you don't really see it in the MLS anymore,
but they always warn you about and say, hey, there's
you know, there's a chance that happens when a goalkick happens,
and and and the crowd says something to the opposition, yes,
and it's really offensive, and they say, you know, don't
do that. You wanted to play. There's a player on
each team that says that, uh, and that's what happened.
Speaker 3 (05:03):
Now, Yeah, they read the announcement beforehand. You're correct.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
The United States just had a goalkick and they're telling
the crowd right now that if that happens again, they're
all going to get thrown out of the game. So
it's not that they're stopping this game to end the game.
They're stopping it so they can warn the crowd again.
They're in the ninetieth minute. There's gonna be about forty
fi there's gonna be extra forty five minutes of extra five.
So we're gonna play an extra half to try to
finish this game.
Speaker 3 (05:25):
If we even get to. By the way, it's been
a half an hour, I believe, Jason, since I said,
and not for the first time on these airwaves, the
Mexican national team fan base at in the stadium, I'm
talking about it. There are games the worst fan base
in North America and the Raiders they Yes, or Philly
or anyone else you can name, I'm not kidding, in
(05:46):
all of North America. And they've done nothing but support
that theory. In the last half hour, well.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
Here they are, of course, they're they're they're gonna won
for the chant. You're not supposed to say, I'm sorry,
you're getting boat raced three nothing, but you're losing. You're
losing bad. Now they're panning to the crowd. They're showing
some fans that are actually getting thrown out. Oh one
of them's my dad. No, they're showing some fans who
are leaving getting thrown out of the game right now
in the ninety first Look the.
Speaker 3 (06:11):
Twelve extra minutes after the ninetieth minute.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
Oh my god, twelvewelve extra minutes. We're playing nine on nine.
Mexico can get a couple of goals.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
And get back in this like NHL overtime. Oh you know,
Mexico's team has only had four shots, not on goal,
just four shots at all in about ninety minutes of
play tonight. They've been dominated, and.
Speaker 1 (06:30):
Now the United States is subbing in everybody like they
got Polistic out of the game and somehow we got
a young Yeah here, you want to go, you go play, you.
Speaker 3 (06:38):
Want somebody to kick. He's dressed in the crowd as
the Emperor.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
Comes down Jesus like Rupert from from ted Lasso, and
they're making him into the Emperor. This is I mean,
this is absolute insanity, you know. But but again this
goes to show you that, you know, we talked about
the power of soccer now in the United States and
how the USMNT women team are big headlines, and look,
this is a story that's owning the night right now
that they're winning this game, they're going to play for
(07:05):
the final on Sunday, they're hiring a head coach that
nobody wants, and I can't believe they're going back to
them because all he did was show the team was
limited when he was the head coach, and it's the
only story. And now you've got all kinds of craziness happening,
and fans are throwing stuff on the field and they're
getting warned about getting thrown out in it. I mean,
this is this is this is absolute insanity.
Speaker 3 (07:25):
And this is what happened two years ago, same tournament,
same site, actually, same fan base. As for what's going
on in Las Vegas Sunday with the US VERSUS Canada final.
Yet again, it's not going to be on an English
language channel but the Gold Cup tournament. Which is why
what every two years for many decades, the summer tournament
(07:47):
starts on FS one in less than two weeks. In fact,
the US teams you'll be able to see all of
those games on a regular channel. You know.
Speaker 1 (07:55):
Real A quick story about that the last Gold Cup
United States the United States played, I was on a
cruise and I was gonna miss the championship, which was
United States and Mexico, and I was really mad. But
they said, no, no, no, don't worry. You can go
down and uh one of the stations, one of the bars,
will have the game. I said, really, oh yeah, yeah, yeah,
we have the bar. I'm like, oh awesome. I went
(08:16):
down and it was it was on f S one
and I go in and I go, hey, good, oh, no,
we we did we we don't. We don't have that.
I go, what do you mean you don't have it?
You would have it. I said, wait, you don't have
the game. No, we don't have we don't have a
uh cable package. I go, why do you have a TV?
And they go, we show movies and and and and
stuff on you.
Speaker 3 (08:37):
Well, even though those are kind of iffy if you
know the behind the scenes story of the regional sports
networks these things.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
So I can't see the game, they go, no, I go,
and I can't get any reception. I go, no, I go.
Can I go to the captain and can I ask
for a score like at halftime at the end of
the game, And they go, you're serious? I go, no,
I'm kidding.
Speaker 3 (08:53):
I can't.
Speaker 1 (08:54):
Is there any way I could get this because we
were it was a c day. We were out at sea.
Speaker 3 (08:58):
Yeah yeah, leaving the boat.
Speaker 1 (09:01):
Yeah, you don't get anything until you get close to
shore and then all of a sudden, your phone blows up.
So I had to wait till the next day to
find out the final I couldn't. I was gonna go
on the What do you want to do tonight? It's
a seat, I go, I'm gonna go watch the United
States in Mexico. Really, yes, we want to go.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
Who were in the same boat, so to speak, and
their team was going to be playing their bowl game
that night, and they got to watch their team's bowl
game while at sea on a cruise. Now, I think
I can top that story. Actually, because this past NFL season,
we took a guy who's a huge Cowboy fan friend
of ours to have a night out with him and
treat him to pizza and then watch the Cowboys on
(09:37):
Monday Night football. And we get into the pizza place
and we say, can you flip it over to ESPN?
A pizza place said we don't have ESPN. I'm not
kidding you. Actually, that night and not all the Monday
games but that particular night they were carrying it on ABC,
and I said, oh, just turn to seven here in
(09:58):
LA just turn to seven, and fortunately we were able
to get otherwise would have been out of luck there.
Speaker 1 (10:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (10:05):
Yeah, stunning.
Speaker 1 (10:06):
Sorry, we don't get ESPNS.
Speaker 3 (10:08):
But Jason runs into this problem every time he wants
to watch a Mets game.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
We don't get We don't put that crap on. They'll
put the Mets on. Look, as long as they'll put
the Mets on Apple TV on Friday nights, I'm okay.
Speaker 3 (10:18):
Yeah, those are exclusives or Peacock Sunday mornings. We've run
into that with various team would actually be doing you
a huge favor if they do that, Jason.
Speaker 1 (10:25):
We won last night.
Speaker 3 (10:26):
They got the Cardinals coming up the wind night.
Speaker 1 (10:31):
Steve, we could be almost five hundred, Like I mean
that that we can hang a banner for that almost
five hundred.
Speaker 3 (10:36):
By the way, we've talked about how this is hardly
the first time that Mexico is getting in trouble for
the behavior of not just his team, we're talking about
their fans. Long time columnists with USA Today, Nancy Armor
tweeted out two FIFA doc Mexico a World Cup qualifier already,
nothing else is going to make a difference.
Speaker 1 (10:58):
Man, So six minutes still you know again, still more
minutes left to go because they're playing again, they're playing
nine on nine. It's just like just like it was.
I wind up, see is there a power play?
Speaker 3 (11:09):
And someone coming out of the box in the next.
Speaker 1 (11:13):
Oh, he's out of the box launch how to breakaway?
I think there he is.
Speaker 3 (11:16):
I think those were game misconducts. I spoke, they're not
coming back.
Speaker 1 (11:21):
Oh boy. Uh so we'll have more of this game
once it ends, coming up in a few minutes. But
but uh, but you know, just a little bit of
what we were talking about a few minutes ago about how
with the a you know, top of this game being
in Vegas and the the ballpark experience being why the
A's can't stay in Oakland. And I compared it to
what's going on in the movie industry right now that
(11:45):
it's still people are still slow to come back to
go to theaters to see movies, and what what's happening,
what's got to happen to bring teams? Uh?
Speaker 3 (11:55):
In sports, you see stadium seeding, different options for movies, and.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
The A's are gonna get a brand spanking new stadium
in Vegas. It's gonna be full of glitz and glamour,
and it's gonna be a drawing card. It will be
a destination. You can go to a mall anywhere, but
you want to go to a mall that's a destination
that has Oh they have a David Busters and they
have a movie theater, and they have this, and they
have that. You want to go some places of destination.
And when you think about it, that's the real reason why, Hey,
(12:23):
we have to you know, we have to step up
in a couple of different areas. If that's what we're
going to do. You have if you're building a ballpark,
you got to make the ballpark a destination, right. You
can't just let's do a facelift. Let's this no. And
in movie theaters, that's kind of what has to happen
right now, is that for the longest time, movie theaters
have made money because we've just we clean up at
(12:44):
the end and we have the seats that are the
seats and the theaters of theater. And it's been the
same food for the last twenty five years. Whether you're
getting a bunch of crunch or cookie dough and nachos
and hot dogs. It's the same experience. Now the last
few years there have been different things that have been
added in. There's been the d box phenomenon of you
sit in the chairs and you get the you get,
(13:05):
you shake a little bit, what happens on the screen,
you get you know, you get.
Speaker 3 (13:08):
Your like Universal Studios or something.
Speaker 1 (13:10):
Yeah, you get that. Sometimes you get the dine in
theaters where you can order food and the chairs are
cushy and they go back. But you need to do
even more than this, because you need to make the
theater the place where people want to go. I want
to go to the theater and see a movie where
oh I want to like it doesn't like you go
to a baseball game. Hey, seeing the game is great,
(13:30):
But I'm also just as fun going to the going
to the ballpark because the ballpark is fun because I
want to see what it's all about and see all
the different things in it and eat all the different
food and all that. That's got to be what what
movie theaters are is that it's got to be where, Hey,
I'm gonna go to the movies, doesn't matter. I'll go
see any movie that's out there. What's playing at nine thirty. Hey,
let's find something I'll go see. But it's got to
be where. Hey, I want to be around there, and
I think you got to draw me in with a
(13:51):
better experience in the theater, better experience outside the theater,
and you got to spend money on it. And I
think you have the money to do it. You've been
making money doing nothing for Soul but just putting the
movies in theaters. So you have time now to invest
in all your theaters around the country and say, Okay,
we're making this better. We're making all the seats better,
We're having new foods, we're having everything catered, whatever it's
going to be. You need to see that. When you
see that that applied to Major League Baseball, you understand
(14:15):
exactly why the A's are leaving. No one's going to
come to that ballpark to see it. It's too much
money to get a new stadium in in Oakland. So
how they're going to Vegas And that's a dump?
Speaker 3 (14:24):
Did we say it's a dump?
Speaker 4 (14:25):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (14:26):
This is also like San Diego. This is gonna be
raised as soon as they leave.
Speaker 1 (14:30):
Dump.
Speaker 3 (14:30):
Is high praise for that place? Steve Yeah True.
Speaker 1 (14:34):
Twitter and how about a fresca The Jason Smith Shows.
Steve de Sager in from Mike Harmon coming up next.
We yus, it's finally over. The United States has defeated Mexico.
We will break down all the drama with that, with
the hiring of a new head coach and Frostburg's happy.
Chris Taylor's hit a grand slam. The Dodgers are tied
with the White Sox. Mike Harmon is cursing in his beer.
(14:55):
We're just getting started. Keep it right here. This is
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (14:58):
Be sure to catch live a d of The Jason
Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern,
seven pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (15:09):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon. Harmon's got them off. Tonight's special delivery.
Steve Desager is in for Harvey.
Speaker 3 (15:18):
USA USA the way. It was such bad behavior in
Vegas tonight from the Mexican fans. Predictably, they actually ended
the game early. They didn't play all twelve minutes of
the added time that was supposed to go after the.
Speaker 1 (15:31):
Ninety We'll have more on this game coming up in
a few minutes, as there's so many things to unpack
with this and the drama of Greg Burholter coming back
as the men's team's coat but joining us now on
the hotline Fox Sports one NBA Insider Extraordinay. Check out
the On the Ball podcast. It is Rick Buker. He
(15:53):
is on Twitter at Rick Buker. What's happening? Buddy?
Speaker 4 (16:00):
Never was? Come on down, Greg Walter.
Speaker 1 (16:07):
You know this is like the Knick's going bringing back
Phil Jackson.
Speaker 4 (16:11):
No, this is like, this is like getting married twice
to the same woman, like marry, divorcing and then going
you know what, I second thought, it wasn't that bad, Like.
Speaker 3 (16:22):
The hell, like no pang her the second time?
Speaker 4 (16:26):
Yeah yeah, and not and not signing a prenup either time.
Speaker 1 (16:34):
I mean, I it's it's so amazing, Rick, I really
I I can't. I can't get over that. This is
and they hired a firm to go out and search
to try to get the next head coach. Let's go
back with the other guy. Lets let's let's bring the
same guy back. Why not?
Speaker 4 (16:48):
You can't. You can't make this stuff up. It makes
me wonder about like, what what are the particulars of
the job. It's like a pretty pert job, right, I
would think you've got like all kinds of people that
would be rolling in wanting to wanting, wanting, wanting that position.
And yet like they've they've they put it out there
(17:10):
and interviewed and they said yeah, you know and whatever,
whatever the details were. But I just wonder how many
people they turned them down or passed on taking it
and they ended up having to go back to Burhall.
But it's whatever, we're all joking aside. It's it's a
ridiculous look for Team USA.
Speaker 1 (17:32):
Hundred percent. And I do want your breakdown because we
know one of the people that was interviewed, they didn't
go with uh. They talked to Doc Rivers and he
didn't get So what why do you think Doc didn't
get it?
Speaker 4 (17:43):
Well, Doc, if that was the case, I'm sure that
Doc came out ahead of time and said I'm not
interested before they could go yeah.
Speaker 3 (17:52):
Yeah, exactly. But the US needs a good Game seven coach,
so that's why they were interested.
Speaker 4 (18:00):
Very good, very good boy.
Speaker 1 (18:03):
All right, So let's get to all the big stuff
in the NBA. And I'm going to bring into something
I said earlier in the show, and I wonder, there's
so many things, so many things, but I want to
bring you something I said earlier in the show. You know,
we talked about the parade today and luckily Nikola Yokich
was happy enough to be at the parade today. I
said two years ago, I talked about the era of
the Nuggets was on its way, and here they are.
(18:25):
They win the championship, agree or disagree. In the next
five years, the Nuggets will go to the finals two
more times and win at least one.
Speaker 4 (18:37):
That is a reasonable take, and it is, but it
was more reasonable before Bradley Beal announced that now that
I have my money, I'm going ring shopping, and the
innuendo that Damian Lillard may be looking to do the same.
Because if Bradley Beal gets to either Milwaukee or Miami,
(19:03):
or Damian Lillard ends up with Miami, and say Bradley
goes to Milwaukee, I think that that breathes a whole
lot of new life into the teams in the Eastern
Conference and their ability to compete with the Nuggets. Now,
I would still give the Nuggets the edge because they've
(19:25):
now presented a riddle in much the same way the
Warriors did with Steph and Draymond and playing playing fast
with the death lineup, essentially perfecting small balls. They've they've
they gave. They presented a riddle to the rest of
the league to figure out, and they eventually did. And
(19:46):
now we need to figure out how to address a
seven foot point center in Nikola Jokic and a team
that I do believe is built for being together and
having a great deal of success for the next few years.
So I'm not mad at that at all. I would
(20:07):
just I would have felt better about it prior to
some of these big names potentially fortifying the teams in
the East that I thought would should have been far
more formidable than they were, and I think they would
have been if they hadn't done face plants before the Miami.
Speaker 3 (20:26):
Heatt, I'm glad you brought up Bradley Beal because this
is a guy who I think is only one year
into that huge extension. A very good scorer to say
the least. He's had a couple of thirty point a
game seasons, but he's missed a ton of games in
the last four years. The way the NBA is structured
for off seasons, Rick is it as easy as oh,
(20:47):
let's see who won my conference last year. I'll go there,
is it that kind of thing this summer?
Speaker 4 (20:52):
Well, I think for Bradley Beal and from what I've
been told, like his short list are like I hate them,
bring it up, but you know, first person that I
was first, first executive I was talking to, suggested that
Miami and New York were at the top of the list.
Speaker 1 (21:09):
WO say that again? Say that again?
Speaker 4 (21:12):
Well, I can only say it once because it was
only said once to me. And then I presented that
to some of the other people in the know, from
somebody in particular who is familiar with the thinking of Bradley,
and he was like, yeah, Miami's right, new York that No,
that's wrong, And essentially simply because New York is not
(21:37):
close enough to contentions for what Bradley wants. Bradley twenty
nine now he feels he's a time served in Washington
and he's looking around and he's saying, Okay, where can
I go and I can play for a ring immediately,
And that is what's driving his his list. From what
(21:59):
I understand, I wouldn't dismiss the two LA teams either.
From what I've been told, but it starts with Miami,
Milwaukee and Boston. So I you know, that's the the
part that I when you talk about his injury history, like,
(22:21):
I'm also not of the mind like I think that
I think he's a great fit in Milwaukee. I think
he's a great fit in Miami. There's still the question though,
like if you're asking him to be like to be
the missing piece of the Miami Heat in the finals
against Denver, there's still the question of we've never seen
(22:44):
Bradley Beal perform on that stage. There's plenty of guys
who are great regular season scorers who the further you
get into the playoffs, the more difficult it is for
them to perform or they can't. They simply can't endure
that long of a season without breaking down. So like,
(23:05):
I like the idea of Bradley going to one of
these teams and bolstering them, but there's I'm not one
of those people out of makely goes, oh, well, Bradley
Beal if he goes to Boston, he'll do exactly what
Chris Middleton did. No, that's that is that is not
respecting what Chris Middleton accomplished. And then not every guy
is built to be as successful in the postseason as
they are in the regular season.
Speaker 1 (23:27):
NBA insider Rick Bucher our guest here the Jason Smith
Show Steve to Sager in from Mike Harmon tonight. All right,
so while we're on the topic of trades and Bradley
Beal clearly Miami one of the favorites. We've heard that
for a while, maybe dand Millard follows him. Uh, Zion
Williamson either is or isn't being offered around the league,
and maybe the Pelicans want to move up in the draft.
(23:48):
A percentage chance that Williamson gets moved sometime this offseason.
Speaker 4 (23:54):
Yeah, I don't see it happening. I from what I
know is that, yes, New Orleans is trying to move up,
and supposedly with Scoot Henderson as one of those targets. No,
from my understanding, they're not dangling Zion in order to
make that happen, and nor brandon Ingram for that matter.
(24:17):
So you're probably asking, well, then, how the hell do
you think you're going to move up? And I would not,
And I don't know this, nobody has said this to
me directly, but I would not be surprised if they
were dangling c J McCollum out there just because of
his age and because he kind of reached a point
(24:39):
with them last year where whether it was a combination
of injury, they suddenly realized, oh, he's really good and
a classic example, really good as far as being a
regular season guy. But now we're competing and we need
him to be the go to guy to lead us there,
and in those games down the stretch, he simply wasn't
(25:02):
able to do that, and so and then defensively kind
of got targeted a bit. So I could see where
they're looking at the age of their other stars and
they're saying, you know what, if we're gonna we're gonna
do this, Let's see how much value see J. McCullum
has out there and see if we can flip that
to a younger star who has the potential to be
(25:24):
more dynamic. Again kind of spitballing year based on hearing
some things about like New Orleans not being as enamored
with CJ as they were a year ago, and uh,
and the real I think, what what is realistic is
that they were looking to move up and calling around
to see if they could what about the Zion What about.
Speaker 1 (25:46):
The Zion part of it? Rick? Is the Zion part
of it real? Are they disenfranchised? Are they looking to
maybe move on? Like? What what's the latest with that?
Speaker 4 (25:54):
No, I've gotten no indication that they are not willing
to give this at least the years. Look, there's a
lot of there's a lot of issues around Zion. Zion's life,
as anybody who reads anything knows, is very messy in
a multitude of ways. But New Orleans still believes, if healthy,
(26:17):
like he's a level of star that they cannot get
the New Orleans other than drafting him. And they're just
too good right now to fall off the map and
move up high enough to get a star of Zion's quality.
So it's a major catch twenty two for them. I
(26:43):
would not invest in him, but what they would get
in return for Zion at this point, because of the
injury questions, is not to the level of anywhere close
to the level of what Zion is when he is healthy.
And that's why I just I don't seen New Orleans out.
Maybe a year from now they go through another season
(27:04):
where he plays twenty five to thirty games, they may
decide look, we can't. What's the point we're try will
continue with trying to build around the guy who isn't available,
But from everything that I know, they're not at that
point yet.
Speaker 3 (27:18):
I did like the recent line on Dan Patrick's show
that is, regarding the NBA Finals, the one guy who
wanted a longer series was John Morant. The NBA found
out a little more of its investigation and purposely held
off announcing anything during the Finals. Do they hold off
until after the draft or do we have any inklin
of how long when the announcement, how soon before free
(27:39):
agency or how things are working this summer, because that's
for sure coming sooner than later, right.
Speaker 4 (27:45):
Yeah, No, I would think that they would want to
get that out of the way prior to the draft
so that Memphis knows exactly what it's dealing with for
that season. And the smart money is on a Friday,
five pm, dumped tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (28:01):
There you go. So see, I said I thought Saturday.
I actually said it was guy said, you know, I said,
it's going to be Saturday. We're gonna wake up and
it's going to be early Saturday. So that way there's
no Friday to have. It's just all weekend. By the
time we get to Monday, we're into the NBA Draft.
Speaker 4 (28:16):
Well, I think Adam Silver feels like he spent enough
time of his own time on Don Morant and he's like, no,
I'm not working Saturday just to make this announcement.
Speaker 1 (28:25):
We'll do it.
Speaker 4 (28:26):
We'll do it Friday night. You've already, you've already, you've
already wasted enough with my life job. I'm not giving
you a I'm not giving you a Saturday during the
off season. At this point, I'm like, I mean, I
can't remember a time where the league I can recall,
(28:46):
you know, they've they've done this Friday dump before, as
many organizations have. I can't remember. I can't recall a
time where they did a Saturday or Sunday. So I
would I wouldn't just to pay tomorrow because I don't
think that they I really don't think they want to
wait until after the draft.
Speaker 1 (29:07):
You can fall on Twitter at Rick Buker, that is
at Rick Buker check out as late as at Fox
sports dot Com the Bradley Beal Trade where the short
list of the Heat, the Bucks, and Celtics, but keep
an eye on the Knicks, the Lakers, the Clippers and
the Knicks. That's out there again on Fox sports dot com.
Rick is always buddy, appreciated, my friend. We'll talk to
you next week. Have fun. I got excited there for
(29:36):
Bradley Beal to the Knicks. Oh we're going to the
final though, and then he just poured all cold water
on that man, just like, oh, we're gonna get a
really good head coach for the US MNT. No, we're
going back to greg Borough exactly. Okay. I've had friends
of mine who I texted tonight after that news broke
that are big soccer fans like me, and they both
thought it was lying to them. Ah no, no, really dude,
(29:59):
it's happen, and trust me to turn on the show.
You'll hear it.
Speaker 3 (30:03):
No, no, it's not just like he might be coaching soon.
It's like they're gonna get married to him again.
Speaker 1 (30:09):
It's like, yeah, maybe he walked into the end of
the game tonight. Hey guys, great game day, I'm back.
Speaker 3 (30:15):
What did I what did I ask? First hour of
our show? I wonder what friend of our show and
not for this US team. Jason lock and Fora had
to say two of the many things he has said
it was one only US soccer could stumble into a
golden generation of talent, and yet this and let the
same clown screw it up for two straight four year cycles. Second,
(30:37):
he says, if you are inclined to give US soccer
the benefit of the doubt on much, you haven't been
paying attention. So there is that.
Speaker 2 (30:46):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.
Speaker 1 (30:53):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show Mike Harmon. Steve
Desager in for Harmon tonight. After spotting the White Sox
four runs on four solo homers, the Dodgers have tied
it with the White Sox in the ninth inning and
they now have the winning run at second with one
out after a Freddie Freeman walk. We'll have more on
this game coming up in a few minutes. Again, Dodgers
(31:15):
White Sox tied at four a piece after those couple
of home runs. Dodger bullpen not so bad, Steve di Seger.
Speaker 3 (31:20):
Yeah, tonight, ed, Yeah, we still got maybe a tenth
inning if the White Sox still If the White Sox
get out of this, that's a statement of fact from
last it's the team era. The bullpen era is four
point nine to zero worst in the National League for
the Dodgers.
Speaker 1 (31:39):
The big story of the night, It's become the big
and it will be the big story until we find
out John Moran suspension, probably sometime tomorrow. Four red cards
in tonight's game, the United States and Mexico and the
COCKERCAFF Nations League semi final. United States with an absolutely
dominant effort against Mexico. I think it's a sixth straight
time we've beat Mexico. They go into the final Sunday
(32:00):
against Canada. The backdrop of this is that Greg Burholter
will be retaking over as head coach in the United
States men's team, which just is so awful on so
many levels.
Speaker 3 (32:10):
He's excited about that jersey, but.
Speaker 1 (32:13):
You know, it's just no. Here's the thing, and here's
why it's so bad. I can sum this up, and
you know, we've got a lot of details to get
to on this, but I can sum it up like this.
Look at tonight's game. I mean, maybe tonight was a
reverse boycott and because they knew Burholter was coming back,
they scored a lot of goals. But They were so
dominant tonight. This is the golden era of US soccer.
(32:35):
It sure can be.
Speaker 3 (32:36):
They're very young and already have this international experience.
Speaker 1 (32:39):
Yeah, we've never been better than we are now. We're
a periphery top ten ish team in the world. We
have a lot of talent and you saw it on
display tonight. Right Mexico looked like they were just running
in sand. We had seven shots in the first half.
They had two. It was Ed Polisic was the best
player on the field. This is the golden era of
(32:59):
United's eight soccer. The big problem they had in the
World Cup they couldn't score. Greg Burhalter is not a
great head coach.
Speaker 3 (33:06):
And before then before the World Cup as well.
Speaker 1 (33:08):
He is not someone who is next level. He only
brought three forwards to the World Cup. He is a
progress stopper. He got the team back into qualifying for
the World Cup and getting out a group. But you
saw how much we were completely outmanned once we got
into the knockout round and how well the teams play.
(33:30):
You see this goal that you see. The talent is there,
and now they decide to shepherd us through this next
World Cup in which we are the hosts. Right, we're
one of the three countries that are hosting the.
Speaker 3 (33:41):
Game most of the games here.
Speaker 1 (33:43):
We want the guy whose contract we allowed to lapse
after the after the end of last year because we
didn't know if we were going to bring him back.
We've had two interim guys come in in the meantime
to coach this team. Well, we were making a decision
about who we want, and after all that sick that's
what we go back to, Siah. I mean, we go
(34:03):
back to a guy that it wasn't good enough, so
we led his contract last Now we're going back to
this guy. This is like one of those nights where
you want to feel so excited about the United States
soccer program and it's it's so awesome, it's taking over,
and then you go back to, oh, yeah, we're gonna
have a guy that's just gonna put the brakes on
it and uh and stop progress. I really I fail
to understand this. I fail to understand how they can't
(34:25):
get anybody else. I mean, I know that that there's
a lot of different things that they deal with with Hey,
people coming and how much money you have to pay them,
but there's gotta be somebody that they think, hey, this
could be a next level guy who wants the job
of coaching the United States men's national team.
Speaker 3 (34:41):
Any team that's going to host the next World Cup immediately.
That is desirable for any world soccer coach, much less
one that has young talent like this. Much less one
that is already at the last cycle just qualified for
a World Clearly not. And yet between US Soccer and
the search firm, they come up with the guy that
(35:03):
we thought was out the door. He was out the door, right, yeah,
he was. Are you too far gone? No, you don't
have it. Nobody else wants you either. Hey, come back,
come back. Listen, we've got another tournament a week and
a half. Are you free that kind of thing? Here's
a four year contract.
Speaker 4 (35:20):
You know.
Speaker 3 (35:20):
I'm glad you brought up the fact that once the
US got to the round of sixteen, you know, you're
not playing Whales anymore, no offense, but you're playing a
European opposition, and you really know that you're making progress,
if not even with a win, but if you can
stand toe to toe. And it was painfully obvious how
inferior US soccer is to most European sides. That are
(35:41):
contenders in World Cup history? How many times has a
US men's team beaten a European opponent in the World Cup.
The answer is one. We've gone twelve winless in a
row and overall one and twelve with seven ties. We
haven't made progress on that front, and that's when you
know you've made progress. But even against the little fishes
(36:03):
in our region of the world, it was like pulling
teeth a bad day at the dentist to even get
goals scored. It's not progress offensively to rehire this coach, I.
Speaker 1 (36:14):
Really, I know that there are certain things that are
built in with every job that makes it hard to
hire somebody. And has the United States won the World Cup?
Speaker 3 (36:25):
No?
Speaker 1 (36:25):
Have they gotten more than one semis, no knockout round?
No they haven't. I get But this is a really
desirable job. I mean, this is not one of those
where you're gonna go and fail. You can go and
win like you are in a position to succeed with
the talent that we have. How is there no doubts
out there?
Speaker 3 (36:42):
Without the pressure of Germany or an England job would
have This is the best of both worlds, cause you
get the modernity, you get the youth, you get the
entrance into the World Cup. Your people are not on
your you know, screaming down your neck literally every day.
By the way, update, they are going to the tenth inning.
Someone from the Dodd your bullpen is gonna have to
pitch in the extra innings. Tied with the White Sox
(37:03):
Alter come back.
Speaker 1 (37:04):
Yeah, Verhalter is gonna pitch in the tenth inning. It'll
be very exciting.
Speaker 3 (37:07):
One line drives. Uh.
Speaker 1 (37:09):
We have more on this big, developing, breaking story coming
up next, as well as the story that's gotten to
be the biggest story in baseball. Keep it right here,
Jason Smith Steve Desager in for harm In. This is
Fox Sports Radio.
