Speaker 2 (00:24):
Listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Greetings, Welcome in side hour three of The Jalen Brunson
Show with My Baz friend Jalen Brunson.

Speaker 3 (00:36):
Live from the Jalen Brunson Studios.

Speaker 4 (00:38):
Jason, Yes, Jalen Brunson.

Speaker 5 (00:40):
Yes, Jalen Brunson. Now, and a championship or the sisters?

Speaker 1 (00:47):
Okay, you gotta listen to the show every night. Now,
I definitely take Jalen Brunson.

Speaker 5 (00:51):
But you take a championship.

Speaker 3 (00:54):
J bruns to the championship. That's what Tysher said.

Speaker 5 (00:57):
Well, the sisters are more realistic.

Speaker 3 (00:59):
No, but it doesn't matter. You gave me a choice.

Speaker 6 (01:01):
One can never happen. Can Jalen Brunson beat the Gorilla
by himself?

Speaker 3 (01:05):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (01:06):
Yes, Jalen Brunch doesn't need ninety nine other dudes with him.
Jalen bruns does it all by himself. He draws, He
draws a silver back Goerrilla towards him, and he crosses
over and the silver Back Goerrilla falls over the cliff
like Wiley Coyote and Brunson hits that three and it's ballgame.

Speaker 6 (01:20):
That's how it got And then he climbs down and
hits him over the head with a rock.

Speaker 3 (01:26):
I hit him in the head with.

Speaker 4 (01:28):
A rock again.

Speaker 6 (01:29):
You gotta listen to it, each and every show in
its entirety. You can get them all the iHeartRadio where
you get your podcast.

Speaker 4 (01:35):
We appreciate and love you.

Speaker 3 (01:37):
Uh yes.

Speaker 1 (01:38):
Jalen Brunson, the hero of the night, the story of
the night. The Knicks beat the Pistons in six Jalen
Brunson one on one with Asar Thompson, one of the
best defenders in the NBA, and final possession of a
tie game. He fakes to the left, crosses over, Thompson,
falls completely out of frame, brunts and dribbles to the

(01:59):
middle of the court hits a three. The Knicks win
at won sixteen one to thirteen. And oh, by the way,
you know Jalen Brunton's heroic. Notwithstanding the final possession for
the Pistons, they still had a chance, and they actually
got the ball to the guy they wanted to get
the ball right, like like brun stit's the shot with
four point three seconds left. Then I'm screaming my head off,

(02:19):
like but the piss is like four and a half seconds,
that's still plenty of time. Now you have to get
a three. And they were able to get the ball
to exactly where they wanted to get it because the leak.
Beasley had been terrific from three point range this game, right,
he hits at least three averaged like three and a half.
Three is a game, and he had six in the
first half, Like he completely kept them in this game

(02:41):
in the first half. They got the ball to him
and the pass went right through his hands, I mean
right through his hands, like he's got it and he's
got time to catch and set and get a three,
and there's nobody in front of him, and the ball
just goes through his hands out of bounds. Nicks get
it inbounded with less than a second left to go.

Speaker 6 (02:59):
Games it was just the other side of the court,
same exact play when they tried to get the ball
to Gary Trent Junior as the Bucks went into the
good night. So yeah, if you're a Pistons fan and
that one's gonna stick with you, all five of them
like well, I mean, look, it's five people, and we
care about everybody mobile enterprise. There might be some people
in Latvia that that are listening right now that are excitable.

(03:25):
They decided Detroit basketball was.

Speaker 4 (03:27):
Where they were going. I don't know.

Speaker 3 (03:29):
Everybody just turned the Tigers game on. Eff is over.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
Okay, Tigers, Okay, Tiger, let's go. Yeah, my phone is
very mysteriously silent for the first time in a week
from all of Pam's family in the Greater Detroit area.

Speaker 6 (03:43):
How many times did you text them silent? See, because
you probably had a lot of outgoing messages sending gifts
of people. But maybe some Jalen Bruns, maybe a Tom
Thibodeau like with that sad face with his hands in
his pocket.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
No, I have to look, I have tomorrow to worry
about Tims and the Celtics. Now tonight's the party night man, party, man,
party man.

Speaker 4 (04:08):
Oh, nicely done.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
I wanted to I wanted to wait and see if
I get anything to know, Absolutely nothing le or pretend
like this didn't happen, Like, oh, it's over.

Speaker 3 (04:15):
Now, it's over. It's over.

Speaker 6 (04:17):
So some folks need to flush it tonight. It's that
game film that you burn. Hey, you know we're done.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
You know there was a kid now I want to
I'm going back about ten years now, but there was
a kid. This is exactly how Pam's family's reacting. There
was a kid that went to school with Zoe, And
I'm going back to like when Zoe was like in
first grade, and his name was Jeffrey, and he was
a really fun kid. I talk to him every day
at school. He was a huge baseball fan. He loved
Baseball's a huge Dodger fan. Right, So Dodgers Mets NLCS

(04:47):
in twenty fifteen, and he's.

Speaker 3 (04:48):
Saying, your Mets are gonna lose, the Dodgers are gonna win.
We're gonna do this.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
We're do that all through the series every day. See
you no fun, really really fun kid. So the Mets
win the series, right, So I go to school the
next day and I see him and I just say hey, Jeffrey,
and he looks at me and says, baseball season's over.
And he walks away from me. Well, it is kind
of like you and I hate baseball. I love baseball.

(05:14):
Baseball season's over and he just walked. Good for him,
like he had the conversation with Dead. I'm gonna see
mister Jason tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (05:22):
What do I say? You tell him? Baseball season's over? All? Right?

Speaker 5 (05:24):
And so?

Speaker 6 (05:25):
But then was he a Giants or a Jets fans.

Speaker 4 (05:31):
A Charger, a Raider fan?

Speaker 1 (05:33):
Yeah, I didn't get into football when I said, Okay,
if you're not going to talk about baseball now, that's wow.

Speaker 6 (05:37):
But you gotta find out what's next, because I mean
he's now like JJ Reddick a nemesis.

Speaker 3 (05:43):
That is true.

Speaker 1 (05:44):
H Now, speaking of rhetor, right, we'll have more on
the next went over the Pistons in a few minutes.

Speaker 3 (05:49):
But dude, come on, man, Jalen Brunt.

Speaker 5 (05:52):
Nobody gives a crap.

Speaker 3 (05:53):
J What what are we.

Speaker 1 (05:55):
Even talking about? Says the guy whose team is not
in the playoffs? We're going to talk about right now?

Speaker 7 (06:02):
Out of the playoffs are way bigger story than the
next winning.

Speaker 1 (06:07):
Yeah, I think last night, I think last night it
was a big story. But we did see the Lakers
today had their end of season interviews for cleaning out
their lockers going. We talked about JJ Reddick, who said that, hey,
we need some guys on the team need to get
in shape. We talked about that last hour that is
a direct comment on Luka Doncic, and we had a
sunny side up conversation for the Lakers for that. For Luca,

(06:29):
Now when you see what's next, Right, we had Rick
Bucker on the show last hour and he said they're
going to make a big trade for a big get
that rim rocker that can run the floor that Luca
needs to have that alley oop game.

Speaker 3 (06:40):
Right, it's absolutely what he needs.

Speaker 1 (06:42):
Okay, great Lakers might move Dalton Connect to make that happen,
and they wanted to move him this year for Mark
Williams and the trade didn't happen because of the physical
So I'm sure they will find a way to either
make that deal happen again or I agree with Rick,
Dalton Connect goes someplace else. But overall, the big question
is gonna be around Lebron and what it's gonna be

(07:02):
like for next year. And I know that Lebron gets
cryptic every single year and he wants to say I
talk over stuff with my family, I do this.

Speaker 3 (07:10):
I'd bean that he's got a lot of money.

Speaker 1 (07:11):
He's got fifty million dollars next year, He's not going
anywhere Now. Next off season, that's a different conversation. But
for this offseason, I know fans are upset. Everybody's upset.
Lebron failed the Lake. Yes, this entire season for the
Lakers was a failure. I can't you trade for Luka Doncic.
You finished third in the West, you played terrific, and
you lose in the first round and you show up

(07:32):
unmotivated and not in shape right like that? That makes
the season an epic fail. But going in, I'll tell
you how the Lakers are gonna look at this. They're
gonna say, you know what, we had three months with Luca,
and look at what we did, right. We had great
success in the regular season, and then we weren't ready
in the postseason. We weren't here. We watched Rudy Gobert

(07:53):
have a legacy game with twenty seven points and twenty
four rebounds. Rudy Gobert is not that good offense ever,
just all points a game, and he absolutely used the
Lakers who didn't have any size, which.

Speaker 6 (08:04):
Is funny, right, because go Back obviously had the trade
rescinded Jason. But remember all of the talk was we
got to figure out how we're gonna get through Yokich
if we played Denver.

Speaker 3 (08:14):
Yeah, didn't solve.

Speaker 1 (08:17):
That, No, but that's how the Lakers are going to
look at it and say, Okay, we just got Luca.
He and Lebron have a really good chemistry together. What
do we need to do for next season to work
around this? And there that's Rick's point about connect and
getting a big Remember we said when they got Mark
Williams when that trade first went down, like, wow, this
is exactly what they is. Given Luca everything he needs

(08:38):
and you have Lebron James.

Speaker 6 (08:39):
Oh Jason though, but we talked a lot about the
and put a lot of oxygen in as a collective
media about Bronni James showing up. Remember don't connect was
Lebron James guy? And then he couldn't get off the bench,
So that's Lebron's fault. How about that rock Lenka I
saved you.

Speaker 1 (08:57):
But what's gonna happen for next year is this. But
this gets into a bigger conversation, a bigger hot take
about Lebron James, Well, they're this off set, sure, or
Joel Embiid go after em beat.

Speaker 3 (09:10):
You could get Joel Embiid.

Speaker 1 (09:12):
Although he can't run the floor, he gets tired shooting
free throws, but you can get that big, right, There's
gonna be a lot.

Speaker 5 (09:16):
I agree.

Speaker 3 (09:18):
I agree.

Speaker 1 (09:18):
Rob Polinka said there's gonna be a lot of big
star player movement across the league this offseason. It's gonna
be an awesome offseason. So yes, one hundred percent, I
am there with you on that, absolutely. But for the
lakers's gonna be Okay, we watch Luca and Lebron do this.
We're not gonna even think about blowing this up or
have something else happen before we give this a bigger
shot right throughout most of next season. Let's see how

(09:41):
Luca comes back, Let's see him in shape, Let's see
how things work with a little bit different roster. But
if we're in this position for next off season, that's
a different conversation because slowly Lebron is losing his influence
on the Lakers organization. Right He and he and Rich
Paul and Clutch Sports ran things since he got here.
I want this, I want this me and a deer here,

(10:03):
and so we're gonna we want this, we want this,
we want Russell Westbrook, which it took the team three
years to get passed.

Speaker 3 (10:08):
We want all of this.

Speaker 1 (10:09):
Lebron was running things, and what the Lakers are doing
is they are slowly cutting off his influence. We're gonna
trade ad whoa we traded a D that's Lebron's guy. Right, wait,
you traded Lebron's guy. Yeah, all of a sudden, we're
gonna show you don't run things anymore. Here comes Luca,
who is going to be our guy. He is going
to be our star when you wind up retiring. He

(10:31):
is twenty five years old. He is the guy we're
building this team around.

Speaker 3 (10:34):
It's Luca.

Speaker 1 (10:35):
We're gonna get Luca the help he needs with trading
or trading somebody and getting that.

Speaker 3 (10:40):
Big coming in.

Speaker 1 (10:41):
Slowly, Lebron is losing that influence and the Lakers are
preparing to not quite shove him out the door, depending
on how next season goes, but to leave the door
open and say, hey, great, thanks for stopping bye, We'll
talk to you soon. Right when, So, when somebody's ready
for you to live, when you're hanging out, They're like
ready to go to bed. A party is over. Hey,
great seeing your doors open. That's kind I know what
the Lakers are doing here. They're accomplishing a couple of

(11:02):
different things. They're setting up the team for success next
year and beyond, but they're also sort of actively slowing
Lebron's influence and pushing him out a little bit to
where we are regaining control of this team and it's
Luca driven with whoever else we bring in. We got
another couple of the other players are really like Austin
Reeves is gonna be one of our big three, even

(11:23):
though he struggled a bit in the first round of
the series. But that's the thing is that Lebron has
slowly go wait, I'm not the straw that stirs the
drink here like I used to. So next off season,
if we're looking at another year of the Lakers playing
well but losing in the first round, that could be
it for Lebron with the Lakers. Like I know, Rick
Buker said that maybe that could be it for Lebron

(11:43):
in the NBA. He's not going out getting pushed out.
He's going out on his terms and he can still
play at this level for another three four years, Like,
is this where he goes back to Cleveland and plays
his last three years? Hey, they're ready to win a title.
Maybe this is where he goes back to Cleveland and suddenly, hey,
look at me. I finished the end of my career
with two more titles with Donovan Mitchell and all those guys,

(12:03):
Like I could see next year being Lebron, this year
being Lebron's last year as a Laker. Where year's forty two,
forty three, forty fourish, a't someplace else? Which would really be.

Speaker 3 (12:13):
Cleveland or maybe New York.

Speaker 1 (12:15):
Oh, I always wanted the player, but he's playing well enough.
It's not gonna be a year and retire. It could
be a year and one other destination for him.

Speaker 3 (12:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (12:22):
I mean, he got all the chaos theories that you
can throw out there if he decides he wants to
go team up.

Speaker 4 (12:27):
I don't know.

Speaker 6 (12:27):
He suddenly invoked AD's name and he loved him again
because remember how chilly it was when they were on
the court together after the trade, and he felt like
he'd I don't know, maybe taking a shive, he tight shirt,
I'm getting it back for you there. But the idea
that maybe with the opt out. Now, nobody's gonna pay

(12:48):
him fifty two million dollars like he's.

Speaker 4 (12:51):
Got for this final year.

Speaker 6 (12:52):
But he does have control, right, He's got a no
trade and he's got a fifty two million dollars player option, Luca,
he's got one more year before he.

Speaker 4 (13:00):
Gets to his player option.

Speaker 6 (13:01):
But for the Lebron part of things, you know, the
little side jab that he took when asked about roster
and going forward, said I don't know. Ad spoke up
and then he was out of here. Well, you're being glib,
being kind of a smart ass, because one nobody ever believes, Hey,

(13:21):
you didn't.

Speaker 4 (13:22):
Know about this.

Speaker 6 (13:23):
You'll never convince me, no matter how many lie detector
tests and how hot the lights get with threats of
the needle like Sipowitz, we're gonna do our NYPD blue
run here Jason, that he didn't know what was happening,
at least a little bit ahead of time. Maybe not
with grand long term vision to it and possibility, but

(13:46):
you'll never convince me that he didn't know, which is
why you had those moments with Ad which seemed to
be quelled. Because there were times on the court the
last couple of games where things didn't exactly look like
Luca and Lebron were on the same page necessarily and
feeling the love fest. One they were tired. Two they
well collapsed in the fourth quarter time and time again.

(14:07):
Three I don't think you trusted your coach in the
fourth quarter to get you out of any situation either.
So all of that to play, Yeah, Lebron holds very
heavy weight right now. And to your point, yeah, they
are looking to the future because you have twenty five
year old Luka Doncic and talk about his conditioning as.

Speaker 4 (14:25):
Reddick, did you know you might as well name him? Like,
don't do.

Speaker 6 (14:30):
That, just say, hey, Luca needs to be in better
shape because I'm gonna need him forty eight minutes a night.

Speaker 1 (14:37):
But what do you mean? Yes, I'm talk but look
at me like I'm Tom Thibodeau. Right, I got my
I'm an all black and my arms are cross. Right,
You're gonna play all forty eight minutes. Exit out a
bout a Fresca, Exit Swallen Dome. Jason Smith Mike Harmon

The Jason Smith Show with My best friend Mike Harmon.

Speaker 2 (17:53):
Damn Son, Where'd you find this?

Speaker 1 (17:56):
Two minutes to go in the fourth quarter and it
looks like the Clipper are doing it for the wall.
They lead the Nuggets one oh seven, one oh one,
trying to tie this series up at three games apiece.
And it looks like it's happening Powell, who they gave
away a T shirt?

Speaker 4 (18:13):
Yeah, and they did.

Speaker 1 (18:13):
Norman Powell tonight, he's got twenty. Did you give a
T shirt away every night? If Norman Powell's gonna score twenty?
He just hits a three to give the Clippers a
nine point lead with a minute and a half left
to go. Looks like we're going back to Dender for
game seven. I mean, if you if you give away
a T shirt on Norman Powell, that you had to

(18:35):
give a Powell T shirt away every single night.

Speaker 4 (18:37):
I gotta figure out what is over under for points?

Speaker 3 (18:39):
Was?

Speaker 6 (18:40):
I mean, he was what fifteen in a game coming
in and big night tonight. T shirt has a little
bit too much for me. Giant pictures, secondary pictures, all
sorts of stuff.

Speaker 4 (18:50):
It's like, keep it simple, but it's go what's.

Speaker 3 (18:54):
Wrong with a T shirt?

Speaker 1 (18:55):
It's not like any of Norman Powell's relative is gonna
run up with a T you'll catch after the game,
And don't you.

Speaker 3 (19:01):
Don't know that that's what we do. I don't think
that's gonnap.

Speaker 4 (19:04):
Well, it would be kind of funny if it could.

Speaker 6 (19:06):
Maybe one of them yells at Nuggets players to stop
with the fancy ass layups and actually, don't the ball
the number of zip balls getting tipped back out what
should have been breakout layups.

Speaker 4 (19:19):
But but that is what it is.

Speaker 6 (19:21):
But yeah, Norman, Paul, I mean you also were wearing
a shirt that says Norman on it, which is cool.

Speaker 3 (19:28):
Yeah, it was was Wasn't there a movie Norman?

Speaker 1 (19:31):
Wasn't there a an animated movie a few years called Norman. No, No,
that's that, that's Norman Schwartz cough was it? There was
a movie called Norman.

Speaker 4 (19:38):
Now we're celebrating Schwartz gop.

Speaker 3 (19:40):
No like evil normal. That's okay?

Speaker 1 (19:44):
It is Mayday, Okay, yes, okay, well all right, let
me go all the way back. Yes it is may Day. Secondly,
it's gone not being may uh. Secondly, tight shirt, that's spaceballs? What, Yeah,
it's gonna being may You did spaceballs?

Speaker 5 (20:00):
Why don't you go calm the desert for the next trophy?

Speaker 6 (20:02):
Now, there was a movie called Norman with Richard Gear
from twenty sixteen.

Speaker 1 (20:08):
No, like it's something Norman like, like it's an animated movie, like.

Speaker 4 (20:13):
Telling you no, it's not just.

Speaker 3 (20:17):
It's the Greg Norman story.

Speaker 1 (20:18):
No, it was like Evil Norman or Normania or Somethingaren
Norman Paraorman.

Speaker 4 (20:25):
There you go.

Speaker 3 (20:25):
Okay, all right, Wow, it's a lot that long ago.

Speaker 6 (20:27):
Yeah, No, time goes fast, all right, Okay, Anna Kendrick
and mclovin.

Speaker 1 (20:33):
Oh McLevin, Oh wow, see m see again, Mitche Goodman,
Casey Adlin part of the vast barren wasteland that is
the Awes.

Speaker 5 (20:41):
Was that before or after MC turned twenty one?

Speaker 3 (20:44):
Oh, it was after after, and he was in he
was back in Hawaii by that well.

Speaker 6 (20:48):
And he was hanging out on the uh the sidelines,
cheering on the CELTICSWNDY.

Speaker 4 (20:52):
Yeah, yeah, I think I got that for you to Most.

Speaker 5 (20:54):
People will be starting next week.

Speaker 3 (20:58):
About most people, I don't know about that.

Speaker 5 (21:00):
We'll see outside of Island, everybody but all.

Speaker 3 (21:04):
Five Burroughs will be rooting for the name.

Speaker 6 (21:06):
Look Burroughs, you know you sound like you're you're going
back to gangs in New York.

Speaker 1 (21:14):
We got Staten Island, we got the Bronx, We're gonna everything.

Speaker 3 (21:20):
We're gonna have Flushing Queens, the nut watching the Mets.
They're gonna come watch us.

Speaker 1 (21:25):
Uh no, no, the Knicks of the plucky underdog team
against the hated Celtics.

Speaker 3 (21:28):
That that's kind of gonna be.

Speaker 6 (21:29):
The Yeah, I've got the implied odds based on what's
come out for this year, and I'm in trouble.

Speaker 1 (21:38):
I we'll have more on this game coming up in
a couple minutes. Is when I uh lead the Nuggets
now one ten, one oh five with just under a
minute left to go, time out on the floor. But yet, look,
I'm under no illusions here, right, I'm I went from
and this is this is weird. I went from last
year right the Knicks. I wanted everything. I thought, this
is our year, We're getting the Eastern Conference finals.

Speaker 3 (22:00):
Who knows.

Speaker 1 (22:01):
And then everybody started getting hurt, right, everybody started getting hurt,
And even Brunson got hurt at the end at the
end of the series with the Pacers and they had
nobody left, and it was, oh, man, come on really,
And then this season started with so much promise. Hey,
we got Karl Anthony Towns and Michel Bridges look out,
the best starting five in the NBA. And then clearly
we saw that, oh the Knicks lost all their identity.

(22:22):
They're not a great defensive team anymore. And they're just
out there out talenting teams. And Okay, so I went
into the playoffs with I know it's not our year.
I know Celtics and the Cavaliers and the thunder are
all all way better than we are because we didn't
come close to beating any of those teams all year.
So yeah, I kind of get it. I'm looking at
this has found money. I don't expect the Knicks to

(22:44):
beat the Celtics in the playoffs here, but you know,
injuries are always effective and that you know.

Speaker 3 (22:49):
I want to say.

Speaker 1 (22:49):
The one thing here this will go for anybody is
that boy, I'll tell you, we have not seen the
injury bug hit like it's hit in years past. I'm
keep my fingers crossed that it doesn't happen yet speak
but normally by now, normally by now we see the
injury bug hit and by the time we get to
the second round of the playoffs, we're saying, this is

(23:10):
an all star team that's out for the second round
or missing a lot of games. And we have not
had that by and large, knock wood, everybody's been healthy. Now,
injuries can always have look that happen in the next
last year, could happen. But look, I'm under no illusions
the nick should go in here and lose, which is
where I like being where I'm at, because I like
being going into a series with us being the plucky

(23:31):
underdog and not having expectations. I do not deal well
when we have responsibility and expectations.

Speaker 3 (23:37):
I don't do that well.

Speaker 1 (23:38):
You don't have too, No, I don't, and that's why
maybe I need more experience with that. But I don't
do well when I have expectations. I like the Hey,
we're coming out of nowhere. Look at us. We're not
supposed to win, but here we are. Maybe we're arriving
a year or two early.

Speaker 3 (23:52):
No, No, that's what I like. I love where I'm
at with the Knicks.

Speaker 1 (23:55):
I hate where I'm at with the Mets, where you
have the best record in baseball and sudden now I'm
feeling expectations we win and Soto's gotta hit and all
these things have to happen. No, the NIXT I'm like, yeah,
we should lose to the Celtics. It's gonna make this
series a whole lot of fun. I would rather have
this going in going boy, the Knicks are overwhelming favorites.
Going into Game one, I'm going We're just gonna lose
the first two games and that's gonna be Vietnam. I'm

(24:15):
all depressed. No, no, no, I would much rather come
into a series as a fan from this perspective than
from the other one.

Speaker 6 (24:23):
Well, heavy expectations it lead to grand disappointment because, let's
face it, I mean we're in Los Angeles. How many
look at what was on the Lakers after the Luka
Doncis arrival. Right, people were fitting on the cast and
building the molds for whatever statue would go up immediately thereafter. Right,

(24:44):
the legend of Luka Doncis and here's Lebron James and
all of that as it goes through. We watched the
Dodgers for years out here, big expectations and postseason disappointment
until last year when you finished the job. Obviously, also
you had the Arlington World Series. But all of that
to say, you're winning one hundred plus games per season.

(25:07):
It's you go into the playoffs with the expectation you're
finishing the job. Here you're hoping you're five or six
man rotation. I'll give you the sixth guy for the
Knicks can hold up just long enough to roll through.
But as you're talking and hopefully not bringing it to fruition,
because we have been blessed with some nagging injuries, but

(25:29):
nothing that's been substantive to take guys off the court.
That we're looking at the opportunity for the best teams
to play down the stretch like we did with the
NCAA tournament, right where we get all these number one seeds,
people can play in for about twenty four hours. Oh good,
my Cinderella, you couldn't name a guy, the coach, the mascot,
or where the college is located. But you were mad

(25:51):
you didn't get your point in your bracket. No, we
got the better teams. And now we talked about the
early entrance number leaving down to what one hundred and
six guys from three point fifty, So college basketball will
be healthy and you'll know these names that might be
in a different uniform, but you're gonna know the names anyway.

(26:13):
But all of that to say, we want the stars,
we want the big teams to advance. And now you're
a minus eight fifty underdog. Yeah, it's a lot easier
to come from that than boy, these guys are really
a pain in the ass and I'm sweating out the
final minutes of every game.

Speaker 1 (26:28):
I mean, granted, I don't really know a lot about that,
but I know I'm not comfortable in that position.

Speaker 3 (26:32):
I know enough to know I don't like it.

Speaker 6 (26:35):
Well, you hated it right as we were coming on air.
It looked like things were going.

Speaker 3 (26:40):
Awry for you.

Speaker 4 (26:41):
I do all because look we were coming on tonight.

Speaker 6 (26:43):
The Pistons had had a big run after being down
double digits for a good chunk of the game. Okay,
Cunningham found his stroke and all of a sudden, it's like, ah, man,
here we go. And then just like that, you had
the euphoria that was captured here at Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (26:59):
Oh man, it was awesome.

Speaker 1 (27:01):
But I mean, but look go back and I look
at where where my team. Just as a fan, I
think there's certain times where when your team, if you're
a team that's really good, right, let's say about that.
If you're you're rooting for a team that's really good,
sometimes the wins feel like relief and sometimes the wins
feel like it's celebration. And I don't like the relief wins.

(27:22):
I mean, they're still fun, but it's like, hey, I
where my gear. I mean, you know they won. That's great, boy.
We really sweated this out. We did it. Yeah, the
relief wins, I'm like, yeah, okay, And that's and that's
a lot of teams, right, the like Boston now they
won the title last year. All their wins now feel
like relief. Right, the Capotears rolling through the first round,
it feels like relief. The Thunder feels like relief. They

(27:43):
all have expectations, right. The Knicks don't have any, right hey, okay,
even this series against the Pistons, all right, either they
could probably lose, and Tom Thibodeau did his best to
make sure they lost the last game. No, no, it
doesn't matter. But when when I deal with relief, I'm like, yeah,
I just it's more anxiety. I have that way, is
have that as a fan. So in the no expectations,

(28:06):
that's the best part.

Speaker 3 (28:07):
Man.

Speaker 1 (28:07):
I feel like I can just enjoy it more, right,
like I enjoyed the met Like the Mets run last
year was so incredible because you didn't see it coming, right,
they were so bad the first two months of the season.
They make a big run. Lindor hits a home run
in the last day of the regular season to move
them on, and I thought that was.

Speaker 3 (28:23):
Gonna be the greatest thing.

Speaker 1 (28:25):
Alonzo hits the home run against the Brewers and that's
still maybe the best Mets highlight of the last twenty
years for me. And then Lindor it's another home run
to eliminate the Phillies and I'm like, oh my god,
we're in the NLCS.

Speaker 3 (28:35):
Like that was found money. Right.

Speaker 1 (28:37):
That was a year where the Dodgers won the World Series,
and only a couple of teams you can say had
successful years. The Dodgers had a successful year, the Mets
had a successful year.

Speaker 3 (28:46):
Yankees did not because they got to the.

Speaker 1 (28:47):
World Series they threw up on themselves and couldn't field
the ball. Like that's an unsuccessful year for them. But
other teams that come out of nowhere win a Okay,
that's great.

Speaker 3 (28:55):
Right now. This year, all the Mets, I.

Speaker 1 (28:57):
Just feel like, uh, we get all these quality starts,
all these pictures, and we're not scoring enough runs and X,
Y and Z is happening. It's like, oh, I got
It's it's a little bit.

Speaker 3 (29:05):
Tougher for me than it was last year.

Speaker 1 (29:08):
That's why with the Knicks, this magic car last year
was a magic carpet ride for the Knicks. Then they
had expectation, and then they wound up getting injuries and
they hurt and it was a real It was a
real buzzkill.

Speaker 3 (29:17):
Man. I was like, I was depressed for a while.
That's why this now. Hey, whatever happens, we're supposed to lose.
I'm cool. Man.

Speaker 6 (29:24):
Well that's why I didn't listen to any of your
nonsense when you tried to build a ship for the
Bears last year. Like, don't go putting those expectations on me.
They're still to be built.

Speaker 1 (29:34):
But how many good things do you have to say
about the Bears here to believe me that, hey, the
Bears are got Yeah, but you.

Speaker 4 (29:38):
Did it last year and it was a miserable season.

Speaker 3 (29:41):
Hey, not not my fault.

Speaker 1 (29:43):
Your offensive line forgot how to block the last five
games of the season.

Speaker 6 (29:46):
Well, dude, also didn't push the ball down field at all.

Speaker 3 (29:50):
Come on, man, come on.

Speaker 6 (29:51):
His shot chart was like, I don't know, Zubach, it's
gotta be within three feet of the basket. I had
to bring us to the BA. Stories of you you.

Speaker 3 (30:01):
Were you were never the same after the Hail Mary.

Speaker 1 (30:03):
All to do is oh, no, no, no, as soon
as that happened, that was it, man, Which is why
everybody else that's gonna pound the over for the commanders
watch yourselves. But I'm telling you, the ex the the
era of good feeling is here for you, Mike.

Speaker 3 (30:16):
It's here for you and the Bear. Maybe it will be.

Speaker 6 (30:19):
Are you going five games or six games before you
bow out to the Celtics.

Speaker 1 (30:22):
Oh no, No, Nicks are gonna swept Nixon to sweep
Nixon four, Go New York, go New like the Lakers
and five. Is that what you're trying to do here? Well,
it would be the same except Nixon four. So that's
what it is, Nick, sweep. There you go say there.
I could say stuff like that because why not, because
I don't care, because I'm excited where we are excited
as a fan?

Speaker 5 (30:44):
Y this do you Nixon?

Speaker 3 (30:46):
Four?

Speaker 5 (30:46):
Wait?

Speaker 6 (30:47):
Now he's convincing himself. He's going Stewarts, not one other person.
He's going full Stewart smally on the radio.

Speaker 3 (30:53):
Right now.

Speaker 4 (30:54):
He's staring at a mirror in his in his office.

Speaker 1 (30:57):
You want to be like everybody else and go Celtics
and five Soltics and six, Nick, come on, Nix and
four Nix in four Nix, I.

Speaker 4 (31:04):
Mean that's not when you said off air, I mean
we had that audio. We're bleep and bleep and bleep.

Speaker 1 (31:11):
Yeah, Celtics, how about a Fresco swollen dome. Jason Smith
Mike Harbin live from the Fox Sports Radio studios. Time
now to find out what's trending in the wide world
of sports. So someone who's been called the Norman Powell
of Fox Sports Radio t shirt with their face on it,
and boy did she show up for work tonight.

Speaker 3 (31:29):
It's Manti Belagya.

Speaker 9 (31:30):
Oh guys breathing a sigh of relief there because the
Clippers were up double digits with less than what five
minutes to go, and then all of a sudden the
Nuggets went on a little run.

Speaker 4 (31:41):
But the Clippers survived.

Speaker 9 (31:42):
They stay alive. They force a Game seven, and yes,
game one at Into It, the fans who got there
early got a Kawhi shirt. Game two at Into It,
which I went to, we got a James hart In shirt.
And then today Game three at Into It, everyone got
a Norman Powell shirt.

Speaker 3 (31:58):
Bright wonner, Norm Pump fake sites to.

Speaker 1 (32:01):
Battles down Norman Pale po hot shot.

Speaker 4 (32:06):
He's not twenty four.

Speaker 9 (32:08):
You just heard it all on a five to seventy
LA Sports Clippers Radio network. Norman Powell ended with twenty
four points in this one. Guys James Harden twenty eight points,
Kawhi Leonard twenty seven points. But it really was a
team effort from Nicholas Batoum and his defense who played
pretty much the entire second half with a couple of
blocks of eats a zoo bots on Nikola Jokic, who

(32:29):
ended with twenty five points, seven rebounds, and eight assists
in this game six. So Clippers stay alive. I'm feeling good.
Not as good as you, Jason, because the Knicks closed
out their series against the Pistons with a one sixteen
to one thirteen win. Jalen Brunson hit the game winning
three with four seconds left. Detroit's Malik Beasley, who ended
with twenty points off the bench, fumbled that pass at

(32:51):
the end. The Pistons didn't even get a shot off
in their final possession, and Brunson ended with forty points
and seven assists. So they're moving on to the next
round where they're gonna face the Austin Celtics in the
NHL Okay. The Oilers are still up on the Kings
five to three, six minutes to go in the third period.
The Maple Leaves and the Golden Knights already.

Speaker 3 (33:09):
Won their series.

Speaker 9 (33:10):
They're moving on to the next round, and the Avalanche
have forced a Game seven, scoring four goals in the
third period to beat the Stars seven four. So Game
seven will be I believe on Saturday for the Avalanche
and the Stars all the way down to the end.
In baseball, the two games have wrapped up the last ones.
The Tigers outscored the Angels ten four. Detroit scored eight

(33:32):
runs in the final two innings and have the best
record in the AL nineteen and twelve, while the Rockies
on a winning streak.

Speaker 3 (33:39):
You guys, two in a row.

Speaker 9 (33:41):
Wol Rockies, I mean, come on, they edged the Giants
in San Francisco four to three, so not too shabby there.

Speaker 5 (33:47):
Back to you guys, guns everybody, Yeah, what do.

Speaker 3 (33:51):
You have thought?

Speaker 7 (33:52):
Some prayers out to Steve Balmer's bank account. Eave out
T shirts at three games.

Speaker 5 (33:58):
He's fine, he's fine.

Speaker 6 (33:59):
I want the Norman. I just tried to look for one.
It was it sold out. As I was looking at Norman,
someone had it up on email.

Speaker 4 (34:06):
Oh I see how much forty four for.

Speaker 6 (34:08):
That and a towel. The shirt and the towel. It's
a good looking it says Norm them on you rather
have that hard though?

Speaker 4 (34:17):
When you rather hard? Okay, well, why is he to
say the Powell towel?

Speaker 3 (34:22):
But that's what it's.

Speaker 4 (34:24):
You get the towel, which is just the regular rally.

Speaker 9 (34:27):
Everyone gets the towel, correct, And then the shirts where
you had to show up early.

Speaker 4 (34:31):
Yeah, it says Norm.

Speaker 3 (34:33):
I know I want.

Speaker 1 (34:34):
I want the Clippers to win this series just so
I could see who they give out next series.

Speaker 3 (34:37):
Here's your Brent Barry T shirt?

Speaker 1 (34:39):
All right, eats the zoo box ye.

Speaker 5 (34:45):
Out of cash.

Speaker 4 (34:47):
Let me tell you what he's not out of I.

Speaker 1 (34:49):
Should say finished third and most improved player of the year.

Speaker 2 (34:54):
Don't be heading out.

Speaker 3 (34:56):
I'm just saying you got to put that on a
T shirt. I don't.

Speaker 6 (34:59):
Hey, he he was able to shut down yo kicch
repeatedly he was And we'll get the post game sound
because I'm sure there's gonna be a lot of complaining
about that.

Speaker 4 (35:07):
Absolutely calls that were not made in the final minutes.

Speaker 9 (35:09):
I mean, I was maybe one in the final minutes.

Speaker 1 (35:13):
Maybe he bought to the big block on kid right
in the final minute. Yes, that was something, Manti. You
are all set up to lose this in seven games.

Speaker 2 (35:23):
Why would you say that?

Speaker 9 (35:25):
I hope you trip on your way to your car.

Speaker 3 (35:27):
You wow?

Speaker 2 (35:28):
Yes, wow your.

Speaker 4 (35:30):
Jeans or scab your knee? Okay, that's right.

Speaker 3 (35:36):
Okay, all right?

Speaker 2 (35:37):
And you know once, I.

Speaker 1 (35:40):
Forget what did you say to me last night when
I was leaving about this series?

Speaker 3 (35:44):
What did you say?

Speaker 9 (35:45):
I don't know what did I say?

Speaker 4 (35:47):
No, I believe you.

Speaker 1 (35:48):
Said this series is so set up for us to
lose the seven games.

Speaker 3 (35:51):
I believe you said that is I walked out the door.
It is.

Speaker 2 (35:55):
That doesn't mean you're supposed to repeat it?

Speaker 3 (35:57):
Oh, repeat it.

Speaker 1 (36:03):
Gotta listen to the whole show we got. We got
more big stuff out of the NBA coming up next
after a big story today. Do I have an idea
for a TV show that would do absolutely bonkers numbers?

Speaker 3 (36:17):
That's next right here, Jason and Mike Fox.

Speaker 5 (36:20):
Are you saying?

Speaker 2 (36:23):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific, Fox Sports.

Speaker 1 (36:32):
Radio, The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmony, Jalen Brunson.

Speaker 3 (36:43):
Coming up in a bit.

Speaker 1 (36:46):
I don't know where ty Shirt found tiny Tim from,
but okay.

Speaker 5 (36:52):
This is Brent's post game Jay.

Speaker 1 (36:55):
The Knicks close out the Clippers force game seven.

Speaker 3 (37:01):
But the other big story out of the NBA today.

Speaker 1 (37:04):
Involves Tyre's Halliburton's dad, and we last saw him.

Speaker 3 (37:07):
He was trolling Jannis.

Speaker 1 (37:09):
Following Tyre's Halliburton's game winning layup to knock the Bucks
out of the playoffs became a really big thing. Halliburton
hits the layup clock hit zero. Halliburton's dad, John comes
out with a big towel with Halliburton's face on it,
and he gets in front of him and he's blanking.
He blanking him and yelling blank this and blank this
is now he blank and do it.

Speaker 3 (37:29):
And it got a little embarrassing. More than a little embarrassing.

Speaker 1 (37:32):
Tyre's Halliburton had to talk about it after the games
that I disagree with my dad, Sorry for Jannis Giannis
was full of a lot of class after so okay,
and now the Pacers announced today that Halliburton's dad will
not be around the team and at playoff games for
the foreseeable future.

Speaker 3 (37:50):
So this is home and away games.

Speaker 4 (37:52):
He's not gonna be there box soundproof box. There he is.

Speaker 1 (37:58):
But this goes back to an idea I had a
few years ago that is an absolute ratings bonanza.

Speaker 3 (38:06):
Right.

Speaker 1 (38:07):
You know how we have all these big reality shows
now that are big. We have the The Wives and Girlfriends,
the Wag shows, all the Real Housewives shows about how hey,
you know, just you get a little bit, you get
a little bit off the beaten path of the stars
into their you know, the the reality show involving people
who are kind of close to it. Basketball dads would

(38:28):
be an incredible show. And I don't mean like just
the dads of hey father son to play in the NBA. No,
I mean the basketball dads like Halliburton's dad, LaVar Ball,
Daron Fox's dad, like all of all of this, all
of the basketball dads that want to get into it,
that want to be part of the headlines.

Speaker 4 (38:47):
But yeah, yeah, he's definitely in Oh.

Speaker 1 (38:50):
Yeah, Like you have all them watching games together when
their sons play against each other, you have them talking
smack with each other. It would be incredible because you know,
you have dads that know, okay, this is a reality show.
We're not just gonna sit around and go okay, yeah, great,
your dad, your kids good, my kid's good.

Speaker 3 (39:08):
Okay, let's figure things out. No, no, no, no.

Speaker 1 (39:10):
They know they got to put on a show, and
they want to be part of it.

Speaker 3 (39:13):
Right.

Speaker 1 (39:13):
They want to be part of everything. They're not players
or under the coaching staff. They want to be a
part of the action. So basketball dads, it would be
insanely good.

Speaker 3 (39:22):
Right.

Speaker 1 (39:22):
You start out with like a six or eight episode
season where you have dads watching games that their kids
are playing against. The kids would be in it a
little bit too, right. The players in the NBA, you
get Tyrese Halliburton in a little bit, Lonzo balla mellow
Ball would be in it, just a little bit here
and there, back and forth to give you the big
superstar flavor. But it's about the dads, and it's about
the smack talk and all the stuff that could happen,

(39:43):
how it could escalate. Tell me that's not a show
people would watch.

Speaker 3 (39:46):
Oh I think it works.

Speaker 6 (39:47):
I mean, look, there's plenty of networks, plenty of opportunity
out there.

Speaker 4 (39:50):
Is it something I would watch?

Speaker 6 (39:51):
No, but I'd fight for it to get on air
and take whatever residuals and cuts of profits that I could.
Trying to figure out what we have. Certainly with Haliburton,
we already have towels. Yeah, there's a whole other thing.

Speaker 8 (40:06):
Uh.

Speaker 6 (40:07):
We we've got to figure out how to make them
likable because right now they just look at ranting lunatics.

Speaker 4 (40:13):
So we need to find that sweet spot as well. No,
they need to get back.

Speaker 1 (40:17):
No, no, no, dude. I think ranting lunatics works. You've seen
t of television. Ranting lunatics works great.

Speaker 6 (40:22):
Yeah, you know, but I think we need a little
bit of the extra backstory. So here's some childhood photos
on the playground. Yeah, I'll get all the housing and
then eventually it becomes smack talking. Hey, you know what,
the the Pacers and the Knicks are gonna play tonight.

Speaker 4 (40:39):
Let's get the dads together.

Speaker 1 (40:40):
Yeah, let's get Rick Brunson. Right, let's get Rick Brunson
going on things. Dude, are you kidding it?

Speaker 3 (40:46):
That's that's a gold mine. Patt and pen Now, it's
fight night pending, patent pending.

Speaker 1 (40:50):
Right, you never know what you're gonna get. Basketball dad's
watching the games together. I got you right there. You
don't have to watch, you're creator of the show.

Speaker 3 (40:59):
Created doesn't matter.

Speaker 1 (41:01):
Coming up next, we get back from the biggest NBA
story of the night and have a big, bold prediction
for Luka Doncic.

Speaker 3 (41:07):
That's next, Fox,

I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
