(00:51):
rams over the forty nine Ers. Tonight twelve six, we
talked about how tonight this was the end of this
version of the forty nine Ers. The window is close. Tonight,
the windows slam shut. They're gonna have to restart next year.
They're gonna have to get rid of a lot of
high priced players, make some big decisions, but it's gonna
be a new team. Whether it's a reload or a restart.
(01:12):
This tonight showed you the window was closed. The Niners
are six and eight, and they are gonna be out
of the playoffs and figure things out in the off scene.
Well a chance. Well I already know that. I think
things that they'll save a little bit of money because
I'm pretty sure they're gonna cut one of their players
by nine am tomorrow. By nine I feel I feel
(01:35):
pretty confident in that, uh or nine hours from now.
When you wake up tomorrow morning, there will be the
Niners will say we have we have released a player.
Speaker 3 (01:45):
Oh, there'll be a fax into the league office waiting
for whoever has to log that into the system.
Speaker 1 (01:50):
Now, part of the drama in this gonna set this
up for you here, Uh, Drake Greenlaw, linebacker for the
forty nine ers, was hurt. Devondre Call, who's been in
the league for the past seven or eight years, was
signed basically to play while Drake le Greenlaw was it
was injured. Now Drake Greenlaw came back and so right,
(02:12):
exactly right, But you know you're in You're not saying,
wait a minute, why am I being benched? Why Drake
lean Law's back? Right? So Devondra Campbell was signed to
come into play for him, but now green Laws and
he's playing. So in the third quarter tonight, Drake Greenlaw
got hurt and came out of the game. Okay, coaches
wanted to send Devondre Campbell into the game except one thing,
(02:34):
just one thing, one thing. One thing stopped that. Just
one thing, one thing.
Speaker 3 (02:41):
Well, it can't be the thing that we normally No, no, no, normally.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
I would say, because he steaks. No, uh no, one
thing stopped it. He said he didn't want to play,
refuse to go into the game. And if you watch
the game, you saw on the broadcast that he was
being escorted to the locker room. Wait a minute, Wait
a minute, what all of this happened. Here's forty nine
Ers head coach Kyle Shanahan talking about it. Just a
(03:07):
couple of moments ago. Happened with Defondra Campbell. He didn't play,
and he went into the locker room at some point. Yeah,
he didn't said he didn't want to play to day
played today. Yeah, the coaching staff he didn't want I
asked him why I don't want to go in? So
during the game or before that was in the third quarter. Now,
dam we wanted to go in the game. No, I
(03:28):
don't feel like it. I don't want to play. I'm upset.
Speaker 3 (03:30):
Yeah, I mean we have precedents. I mean remember Vonte Davis. Yeah,
Miami Dolphins walked off now done halftime, decided he was done.
Deontay Johnson wouldn't go into a game a couple of
weeks ago, Yeah, suspended a game.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
Antonio Brown took his shirt off and ran off the field,
degending Jets. Jets still lost that game. A guy a
guy quit in the middle of the game, and the
Jets still lost that game. They still lost. Ab what
did I tell you last night? Some teams and controversy happens.
It can still fight through it. But look, you have
(04:04):
this situation now, Unikely, you didn't really know his name
before tonight, Devandre Campbell. You know, obviously forty nine Ers
fans did. But this is a guy who wouldn't go
in a game when his team needed him. And I
understand there's things that go on that we don't know about.
Who knows what was said, and I get that, but
you gotta go in the game when you're asked. You can't.
(04:25):
You can't not go, and this is no longer about
how you feel about your situation. This is hey, man,
why did you dress for the game. If you didn't
want to play, Code Day would have elevated somebody from
the practice squad that would have come up and play.
You're out here. Everybody's putting their bodies on the line
every single week. This is the biggest week. This is
the biggest game of the year. Right, you were six
and seven, needed to win to get to seven and seven,
(04:46):
keep things close in the NFC West. You didn't want
to play like his teammates, Like I saw Mooney War
do an interview and he just said, yeah, we needed
him when when when d got hurt? You know, Drake Greenlaw,
we need him. Yeah, he'll probably be cut soon. It's
not gonna matter, like Mooney Wart is just saying, hey,
it's probably gonna be cut. Business.
Speaker 3 (05:06):
Drafted in twenty sixteen by the Falcons, last five games
at least five tackles in each of them, five tackles
in that win against the Jets a week ago or
four days ago, and now won't report back in in
a one possession game.
Speaker 1 (05:25):
Yeah, I'm not gonna play. I'm not gonna play. What
do you mean you're not gonna play? I feel like
play again it Pride's gonna screw with you. We we
all know the pulp fiction lines and everything else. And
you think you've earned your spot, that that's fine, is
Drake Greenlaw? You were a placeholder and as a veteran
in the league bounced a little bit. You got to.
Speaker 3 (05:48):
Understand that why you were brought in. You were brought
in for depth and to hold a spot while they
waited for one of the best linebackers in the game
to get back into the field. And he comes back,
he's flying around, needs to come out of the game,
and you don't answer the bell in a game that
can keep your playoff hopes alive. I'd love his side
(06:12):
of the story. Someone go find him in the parking
lot or wherever he's found himself this evening, kicking his
feet up because he had a whole locker room full
of dudes looking around going oh all right.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
Or maybe he was already that guy.
Speaker 3 (06:26):
Maybe maybe that by just saying, hey, he'll be cut
soon enough. Hey, they were already waiting on it.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
I I don't know, Okay, I shouldn't say I don't know.
I understand when what you do for a living doesn't
love you back how you want it to. Right, I
get I understand that. I get that part because there's
lots of things in my life that I loved that
I wanted to be loved back more and it just
(06:54):
didn't happen. Right when it's something when you're talking about
something like what you're doing, your job or something like that. Professionally,
you know you sometimes your job is personally it's all
together exactly, but this is this is this is personally
on the field. You put your whole life into this,
and suddenly it doesn't love you back, and you think
(07:16):
about you think of it from your perspective only, and
you know, I'm not playing, I should be playing. They're
doing this to meet whatever reason. I don't know if
we haven't. We haven't heard from him yet.
Speaker 4 (07:26):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (07:26):
But I understand feeling that way because I think everybody
gets to that point in their life where they love
something that doesn't love them back like they should. And
that's a tough thing to deal with. And again, like
I'm saying, I understand the frustration part of it, but
this is about they asked you to go in the game.
(07:47):
This is This is refusing to report to work. So okay,
you're done. You know you want to report to work.
Guess what, We're gonna cut you, and good luck with
somebody else picking you up. This is a guy that
signed a five year, fifty million dollar contract couple of
years ago, got released in May, and signed with the
forty nine ers on a one year deal this year.
You know it's it's if if you refuse to report
(08:08):
to work, what else can you say? Hey, wait a minute, now,
now this is more than just about now. Now you're
now you're dragging me into your stuff, right, You're dragging
the Niners defense, You're dragging this team, rag, You're dragging
this city. You're dragging fifty three teammates, You're dragging a
coaching staff, You're dragging your team, You're dragging a city.
The forty nine ers mean a lot to a lot
(08:29):
of people. And because you decide I don't feel like
playing for whatever reason, nah, dude, that that's the worst
thing you can do. The worst thing you would do
is quit on your team. And that that's why I mean,
by nine am tomorrow, I mean, I'm sure they're looking
over his contract right now. I'm sure that right now,
John Lynch is a I got I gotta stay up
after this. It's nine o'clock at night. I'm sixty, all right?
What am I doing? Look at this? Do we have
(08:49):
to What do you have to do to let this
guy go? Because he's going to be an ex forty
nine er and as far as we know, everything we've heard,
there's been no out out things outside the box of
Oh the reason why no is he wouldn't go into
the game and the forty nine ers were talking about
it after the game. Kyle Shanahan is talking about it
after the game. And so now this is this is
how it has to go forward. When you refuse to go,
(09:10):
when you refuse to go to work, of course you
have to be gone. And because you now not only
have let yourself down, I feel like I'm giving a
doctor phil speech. You let yourself down, you let your
family down, you let me down, putting you on the
show here, Uh, but you let everybody you work with down.
This again, this was the biggest game of the year. Again,
the Niners window is shut. You had to win tonight
(09:33):
to keep it open. And you not going into the game.
What are we gonna do now? He says he doesn't
want to go in a game. Who do we have
who can go in? Who can go play that position?
And you know, right away, so and right away Rams
coaches up in the box going hey, uh, Campbell's not
in the game. They got so and so in. He
has never played that position before, because you know, hey,
let's go at him. Let's do that. They knew within
(09:55):
like two plays what was going on. Hey what hey,
campbell'st wouldn't go in the game Green Laws. They have
this going on, this going on, they move this around,
Let's go at it. Let's attack it like you that
that's that's the level with which he let his team down,
And at that it's you know, yes, you have to
look at that bigger than yourself for that moment. If
you want to be pissed off the other six days
of the week and be mad and come to practice
(10:18):
and have whatever attitude you want to and treat hey okay,
but when it's time to play, you got to put
all that aside. You got to put everything else aside.
There's days where you and I come in where we
haven't had the best day. Ty Shirt Frostburg Monsey because
she's been on a lot of games, and you know
he doesn't come in for but there's days we have
we haven't had the best days for whatever reason. But
what do I You know, when someone says that to me,
(10:39):
I always say the same thing. When the door closes
and the light goes on, nobody cares what kind of
day you had, and it's time to get out there
and do what we do, and this is entertain people
and say really really tremendously funny and fiffy things like oka, yeah, uh,
you have to put that. You have to put whatever
is bothering you to the side, because this is not
(11:00):
about you anymore. This is about all of us doing
the show and Fox Sports Radio and people listening and
our affiliates and everything else. Like, you have to put
that away. And if we want to go back to
that at eleven oh two when we get off the air, hey, okay,
you go back to that. I understand that there's stuff
and life happens, there's things going on, but when it's
the game, because it's about more than just you, and
I would think that everybody who was playing in the
(11:22):
NFL would understand that anybody who's ever played sports would
understand that, Hey, it's about more than me. When you're
playing a team sport, it's about more than me. It's
about this. And I want to come in here and
do well because I want to succeed. But I want
to succeed because I'm doing it with my friends and
people I like and it and for him to walk
off the field just be escorted off. I don't want
to go in the game, Like, come on, man, that's
(11:43):
the worst thing you can do. That's thee Is it
really worth it? Was it really worth it to tell
the coaches I don't want to go play and you
walk off the field? Come on, man, come on.
Speaker 3 (11:53):
Folks can go through a lot, right, We've been together
a long time on this show. A lot of highs,
a lot of lows off the off the proverbial court
or field as it were. But you know what show
goes on sports? I mean just look at that forty
nine Ers squad Ward who had the you know, hey,
that's some sucker move there.
Speaker 1 (12:12):
He lost his daughter. He's battling.
Speaker 3 (12:14):
Trent Williams mentioned it and his wife they just lost
a child, trying to battle back from an ankle injury.
Speaker 1 (12:22):
All of that, Ricky.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
Piersal got shot for crying out loud and the dudes
running around and playing. So all of that to say,
you've got people that are laying it on the line
for the team, for their profession, everything else. And maybe
he just decided, Hey, I've made enough money, I don't
need this.
Speaker 1 (12:39):
I'm done. You have four games to finish this year,
or at least finish this game. Finish the game this
game and get, okay what you got and then want
somebody else. We'll get somebody else to play linebacker.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
You're I'm mad at your your coaches, your position coach,
or whatever the case is. You know, do you take
that beef back to the locker room post game and
then you hash it out and if you guys decide
to you know, shake hands or do the Vegas blackjack
dealer thing. Hey I got nothing up my sleeve, I
clap my hands and I walk out the door. That's fine,
(13:13):
but you can't do this.
Speaker 4 (13:14):
And this is a.
Speaker 3 (13:15):
Message for everybody out there right all of our extended family,
wherever you're listening, however you're listening, We appreciate the love.
Speaker 1 (13:21):
You hold your people accountable at your jobs too. Damn it.
He's now, guys, the second person in the NFL to
quit on his team this year. Stop, don't don't don't
say I know what you're gonna go al, right, go
ahead say it. It'll be funny. Good jers. Okay, that
was a pretty good impression of that. It was good.
It was good. Now, I told you Mooney Ward had
(13:42):
something to say. It again, you mentioned this is a
guy who lost his daughter a couple of months ago,
and and he, you know, is finding a way back
and playing, and you think about everybody that you need
to be beholden to that. Hey, this is who I'm
in it with, you man. And here's Mooney Ward. Like
I told you, you said, oh, he'll be cut soon. Here's
the Mooney war comments when he was told about what
(14:02):
happened with Devanda Campbell. Here we go.
Speaker 5 (14:05):
H I mean he the professor been playing for a
long time. I mean, if anyone plays, so have just out.
You know, he could have told him before the game.
So I feel like doing some suber shit that he
did definitely hurt the team because you know, d went
down and we needed a linebacker.
Speaker 1 (14:21):
You know, there it is, we need a linebacker. He said, no,
wouldn't do it. Then he went on to say he'll
be cut sometime soon. That's some sucker stuff right there.
You had some sucker stuff from him right there.
Speaker 3 (14:35):
No, but the look on his face right we've seen
the video clip and look resolute. To a man, they're
only going to go so far down this rabbit hole,
I mean, because he could have gone off on a
tirade right there.
Speaker 1 (14:47):
As you say, all.
Speaker 3 (14:48):
These guys dealing with different things as you all do,
going to your jobs each and every day. Man Like,
there's two different worlds. Here's your business, there's your your
personal and where those lines meet and how you go
about your day. This case that you're fighting for the playoffs,
you're you're in that you know, rarefied air of playing
(15:08):
in the National Football League on a team that's still contending, right.
Speaker 1 (15:13):
And even if you're not finish the damn game playing
one game, you want to leave, finish this game, playing
this game and then go And then then I already
could have decided before the game.
Speaker 3 (15:23):
I mean, what the hell, all of a sudden you
didn't like being rain done in the third quarter.
Speaker 1 (15:28):
It's like, you know what, really kind of tired of this?
By nine am tomorrow, nine am tomorrow, I gotta imagine
the letterhead has already been picked out, and he's in
the printer, he's changing out his locker and they're already
pulling the name plate off. Oh yeah, kicking all this stuff.
All it's forty nine is bot We're thinking it for you.
It's all good. Exit out, bout of Fresca, exit, swelling dome,
(15:49):
crazy development with the forty nine ers coming off this
loss to the Rams. Coming up next, we have more
on this game. We head to Vegas. Get a big
look at all the big NFL action from tonight forward on.
Keep it right here, Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (16:04):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (16:18):
Oh I can't wait for this? What the hell is
this crap? Whoao classics? Where's the where's a mashup of
Slayer doing the redund anything special? Yeah? I really, honestly,
I really thought you get his with the Creed version
of Rudolph the Red like that. No, I didn't say
I liked it, but I thought you were gonna play it.
Speaker 6 (16:39):
I got stuff working Okay, I'm going to throw you
off there like a picture.
Speaker 1 (16:43):
I want to see if you swing, except pictures throw
it batters, right, but battering trying to seef you swung right?
You said, like a picture.
Speaker 6 (16:52):
I want to see if you the picture, Pitcher, I
want to see if you swing?
Speaker 1 (16:55):
Hey bat about it? Hey bat, you're the picture. I'm
the hitter. No, no, I'm I'm number one. I'm number one.
Tell you, Ricky, Bobby, how can yours? Says dude? How
can I win? You know? Where's my car? How can
I win? Of you? All right? Jason Smith's Show with
my best friend Mike Carmen Live the Tireck dot Com Studios.
If Devondre Campbell gets cut before the show is over,
(17:16):
we'll let you know.
Speaker 3 (17:17):
Yeah, but clearly the more teammates way in forty nine
Ers dealing with an issue linebacker refused to go in
the game in the third quarter, and to add quitting
to injury and well and quitting the insult and losing.
Speaker 1 (17:32):
The forty nine Ers had to explain how where season
is over? At six and eight we went all in
on winning and how yeah, we had a player quit
in the middle of the game. Suddenly I don't know,
Kyle Shanahan, has he lost the locker room, Mike Carmen,
there's six and eighty. That guy's quitting in the middle,
Kyle Shanahan, everybody.
Speaker 3 (17:53):
You can always just explain it away as one knucklehead. Again,
we chronicled all the fighting guys are doing to get
on and stay on the field for their teammates, for
their on bield family, and then you've got that gap.
Speaker 1 (18:09):
So if you bet through Vegas tonight that a guy
who that a guy would quit in the middle of
the game, are you a millionaire? Now, let's talk to
our Vegas insider, longtime front of the show. He's on
Twitter at Todd Furman. Check him out the Bet the
Board podcast. See him on CBS. Former Rod's maker at Caesars, Todd,
(18:30):
If I called you before and said I want to
bet that a guy quits in the middle of the game,
what odds would you have given me?
Speaker 4 (18:37):
I mean, I would have given you long shot price tag,
but I did not expect that to be the scenario
that unfolded with Devine Dre Campbell.
Speaker 7 (18:43):
But kudos to your jetsmith.
Speaker 4 (18:45):
It's the first player to quit on his team since
Antonio Brown pulled off that seat way back.
Speaker 7 (18:49):
When, So you know we're headed in the right direction
that regard.
Speaker 1 (18:52):
You know, the Jets lost that game too, gout quit
the game. We lost.
Speaker 7 (18:56):
Yeah, look, it's par for the course.
Speaker 4 (18:58):
So the biggest thing is I got knock you down
a peg or two after Steve Cohen spent everybody's inheritance
and then something to bring one Soda into Mets pinstrikes.
Speaker 1 (19:06):
Yeah, so I assume what Mets World Series even money?
Speaker 2 (19:09):
Now?
Speaker 1 (19:09):
What is it? Are you even taking bets? Is it
off the board now? Because of the law?
Speaker 4 (19:12):
I mean, look, I mean I can get the entire
field at four to one at this point because the
Mets should win one hundred and thirty seven games and
they should sweep through the postseason.
Speaker 7 (19:19):
They do here the Padres and everybody else.
Speaker 4 (19:22):
Pure afterthoughts right now, because the Mets are so loaded,
because Jan Soda with the golden at bat's gonna come
to the plate three times an inning over the course
of nine innings to earn it. And he's actually gonna
go out there and pitch in the late innings in
the seventh, eighth, and ninth to solidify the back end
of that bull ten.
Speaker 1 (19:36):
Okay, A, the Golden at Bat is coming, So you're
not You're not as far off as you think. And
b one hundred and thirty seven games, you're selling them short.
Speaker 4 (19:44):
Oh look, I mean even blind lock. There's a couple
of games the team shows up to hungover. There's a
couple of games where they have travel issues. And you know,
even bad teams find a way to grind out results.
So you know, even a team like the White Sox
can win twelve to fourteen games in one hundred and
sixty two game schedule.
Speaker 3 (19:58):
Yeah, I really had to do the side swype, didn't
you as crush?
Speaker 7 (20:01):
It was coming? It was coming.
Speaker 1 (20:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (20:03):
Well, I mean we have a lot of prospects now, Todd.
I mean, come on, we rated.
Speaker 4 (20:07):
The last crop of prospects really panned out. I'm still
waiting for one Moncata to hit the ground running and
to be the next great White Sox bat anchoring the
middle of that lineup.
Speaker 3 (20:20):
Wow, I knew you know we were contentious at times, Todd.
I didn't realize that the hate had overwhelmed you.
Speaker 7 (20:26):
So hey, every now and every now and again, shots
need to be fired.
Speaker 3 (20:29):
Oh, Madkata and Lloy Jimenez, who in the middle of
a playoff run with the Orioles got cut there as well.
Thursday Night Football. The under cash people were just relaxed
on this one. Never is a sweating moment. But the Rams,
how viable are they any any kind of traction for
them in term of long term odds?
Speaker 4 (20:50):
You know, it's an interesting team given the offensive capabilities
they have, and we saw last year how close they
were upsetting the Detroit Lions in the opening round of
the playoffs. So if you're some of these other Sea heavyweights,
whether you are the Lions or the Philadelphia Egles, clearly
the Rams are a team you'd be happy that got
sent packing before they got into the playoffs. Defensively, they
raise some eyebrows today with that performance. The defensive line.
Speaker 7 (21:12):
Able to generate a little bit of a pass rush.
Speaker 4 (21:14):
And I think over the last two weeks, or I
guess I should say the last five days, the Rams
have shown versatility. They can go out there when a
track meet forty four to forty two, and they could
turn around and win a defensive slugfest twelve to six.
So this is a team that's typically playing its best
football in the month of December and Sean McVay continues
to rack up wins and more importantly, my business covers
when the calendar goes from December.
Speaker 1 (21:36):
Are you going to see an uptick for the Rams
so much as when you say, okay, here are the
Super Bowl NFC favorites lines number one, Eagles number two,
Rams number three, Well, you.
Speaker 4 (21:45):
Won't have the Rams number quite that short. I mean,
it's still most likely a team that's going to need
a little bit of help to win the division. So
when you're discussing teams coming in in the wild card
round that have to win three playoff games, all on
the road, those odds won't be that short. But at
the same time, it wouldn't surprise me if we were
talking about the Seahawks as NFC West champions, the Rams
coming in as a wild card, and both those teams
(22:06):
offering very similar price tags in terms of the way
they were viewed in the big picture.
Speaker 3 (22:11):
Some great games on the slate for Week fifteen. Buys
are all said and done is fifty four, the highest
total we've seen them, and it feels like a college game.
Speaker 1 (22:19):
With this Buffalo Detroit game, it's one of.
Speaker 4 (22:22):
The biggest numbers we have seen this season, but not
that much bigger than where the number closed last week
between the Lions and Green Bay Packers. If you shopped
the round right before kickoff last Thursday night, that total
sat at fifty three. Now, if the number gets up
to fifty five, we start to get into unique position,
given the fact that when totaled are that high since
twenty nineteen, you blindly bet I'm under you've gone twenty
(22:42):
three and ten in terms of cashing tickets. And I
know people will look at the gaudy totals these teams
put off, but that's built into these numbers right now.
Speaker 7 (22:49):
So you need so many things.
Speaker 4 (22:50):
To go right to be able to cash a total
in this vicinity, in zip code, whatever terminology you want
to use. But at the same time, it wouldn't shock
me at all if this game was played somewhere in
that thirty one to twenty eight ballpark anymore than it
would if the game ended twenty four to twenty, because
these tea teams wanted to play a bit of keep
away and try and protect their defense at all costs.
Speaker 1 (23:07):
Vegas insider Todd Furman our guest to Jason Smithson with
Mike Carmon Live the Tyre dot Com studios right one
of the other big games. I know you cover this
in the Bet the Board podcast again in the link
on Todd's Twitter page at Todd Furman. Steelers and the Eagles. Look,
nobody's been winning games with mind numbing consistency like the
Eagles except for the Steelers. This could be an incredible
(23:29):
game on Sunday. How do you see this one?
Speaker 4 (23:32):
I mean, this is a role the Steelers have thrived in,
not just this season, but during Mike Tomlin's career. I mean,
the Steelers are robust five to zero against the number
when listed as underdogs this season.
Speaker 7 (23:41):
But that's not the most impressive part.
Speaker 4 (23:43):
They've won all of those games outright. And if you
want to try and take a look at a bigger
sample size, Mike Tomlin when listed as an underdog, the
last one hundred and three times it's happened, gentlemen, he's
been able to cash a ticket sixty five percent.
Speaker 7 (23:55):
Of the time as an underdog.
Speaker 4 (23:57):
So this is where the Steelers are at their best.
They try and games up. They'll try and run the football,
lean into some of those conservative tendencies and force the
Eagles to drive the field. Now the cast does get
to be a little bit more difficult when you're down
your top playmaker in George Pickens and the Pittsburgh offense,
despite putting up twenty seven points last week against the Browns,
really didn't wow you with any of its big play ability.
(24:17):
I mean, Russell Wilson less than one hundred and sixty
yards passing was a great distributor, and they ran the football.
But Philadelphia has their own offensive what they need to
try and work through. We've seen the back and forth
warl words between some of their players and the media,
and we'll see if the squeaky wheel gets the grease
for aj Brown from Jalen Hurts. But this game, for me,
it's favored or passed. But I can't get in the
way of the Tomlin freight train as an underdog. Could
(24:40):
see points being at a bit of a premium as
this total starts to leak up a little bit.
Speaker 1 (24:43):
Tod be remiss.
Speaker 3 (24:44):
But in circle back earlier this week, we had the
fun and excitement of the college football playoff bracketology coming out.
Any surprises off early lines that we should be looking
at as we get to the games next week.
Speaker 4 (24:57):
Not really I haven't seen much in the way of
movement for the form matchups that we already know. A
little bit of money coming in on Indiana when they
were available at eight eight and a half that we're
down to the seven and a half range sm U
Penn State is pretty much stayed static at eight and
a half, with the total hovering in the mid fifties.
Texas you know, eleven point favorite pretty much everywhere you look,
total in the low fifties there, and then Tennessee Ohio
(25:18):
State arguably one of the more intriguing of the four matchups.
Seven and a half for the Buckeys and a total
that's come down a touch from forty seven and a
half forty eight down to forty seven. I think a
lot of people are going to try and make a
case for Tennessee given the last data point we saw
from Ohio State was them losing outright to the Mazon
Blue was a three touchdown favorite. Looking ahead to a
potential matchups in the next round, I think it might
(25:38):
surprise some people. But if Notre Dame does get through
Indiana like the betting market suggests, all signs point to
them being a short favorite against the Bulldogs a working
under the assumption that it will be Gunner stocked in
under center instead of Carson Beck dealing with that elbow
slash shoulder injury. And as far as the big picture numbers,
I mean, Oregon the flight favorite despite having the toughest row,
(26:00):
at least on paper for them to get to the
National Championship.
Speaker 1 (26:02):
All right, Todd, have there been any movement on any
numbers with North Carolina the last couple of days since
Bill Belichick was announced the new head coach.
Speaker 4 (26:11):
You, I haven't seen a ton a couple of books
hung their win total. We've seen a six and a
half turn a seven and a half, which I think
is a little bit of fools gold. And until you
know exactly what the tar heel schedule is going to
look like, expecting Bill Belichick to come right in and
have an immediate impact that he starts to assemble a roster,
in my opinion, takes a massive leap of faith. So
if the total were to creep up a little bit,
I'd make a slight case to go under. And I'm
(26:32):
very curious to see how they go about attacking the
transfer portal and what their first roster looks like with
a new coaching regime that's a little bit unfamiliar with
how things work in the current college football landscape.
Speaker 3 (26:44):
Todd, we had all the college football awards and all
that fun stuff, and then we'll award the Heisman. Should
I just go and take all the money that I have,
like that Eagles better against Carolina last week, and just
take my small profit on Travis Hutter.
Speaker 7 (26:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (26:59):
I mean I'd be surprised if Hunter didn't win. The
fact he won the Bolitnikoff Award today just tells me
how much these college football awards are an absolute joke,
given the fact that, in my opinion, he's not even
the best wide receiver on his own team. But that's
a different discussion for a different day. Entirely, you know,
Hunter has the stats, and what he's done in the
college football game is unprecedented with his contributions on both
the offensive and defensive side. Is he the best defensive back?
Speaker 7 (27:20):
No? Is he the best wide receiver?
Speaker 4 (27:22):
No? But when you can do what he did, I
think he's worthy of serious consideration. If all things were
equal and people that actually watched the game week in
week out, and the.
Speaker 7 (27:31):
Coaches voted, would he be the heavy a favorite?
Speaker 4 (27:33):
Probably not, but I do think he ultimately comes away
with the hardware in New York, with Ashton Genty coming
in second. And it's anyone's guest in terms of which
quarterback finishes third and fourth between cam Ward.
Speaker 2 (27:43):
And Dylan Gabriel.
Speaker 1 (27:43):
You better the place like it's a horse race.
Speaker 4 (27:45):
Yeah, you know, some books, some books did actually have
odds up, mainly offshore in terms of trying to project
the exact order finish. And that gets to be a
little bit more fascinating with such an overwhelming favorite that
Travis Hunter is.
Speaker 1 (27:58):
Right now, now, Kyle mccorse would so Todd love flats
and let me ask you this. Do you get a
lot of action on Army Navy? Is there? Is there
a ton of it because it's one game or people
add just kind of stay away from it.
Speaker 4 (28:09):
No, it will be a ton of action. People will
look to try and better it because it's a standalone
college football game on Saturday.
Speaker 7 (28:15):
You do, of course have some.
Speaker 4 (28:16):
FCS playoff games, but those don't quite move the needle
the same way that Army Navy will. And so that's
the spectacle that we've made of the great American game
between these two proud programs a little bit of a
unique circumstance though, as Army comes in at erect disadvantage,
having played in the conference championship game last Friday, and
at least from a Navy standpoint, they should.
Speaker 7 (28:36):
Be a little bit healthier.
Speaker 4 (28:37):
Blake Horvath, their starting quarterback who missed some time late
in the year, upgraded to available, so I do expect
him to go out there and be a full participant.
Speaker 7 (28:43):
So it should be a fun game.
Speaker 4 (28:45):
It's always worth watching knowing that these players that we'll
see on the greatest stage in college football will of
course be making greater contributions to this country once they
graduate from those two prestigious academies.
Speaker 1 (28:56):
He's on Twitter at Todd Firman. That is, at Todd
Firman on CBS. Check out the Bet the Board podcast.
The link is on his Twitter page. Steelers, Eagles, Bills, Lions, Colts, Broncos, Packers, Seahawks,

right there at Todd Furman. Todd appreciated my friend. We'll
(29:17):
talk to you next week and I'll take the I'll
take the over one hundred and thirty seven wins for
the mets.
Speaker 7 (29:21):
Ochay, you let me know what price, dagger. I'm happy
to put that action off the air, my.
Speaker 1 (29:25):
Bred see money. Thanks there, goes Todd Furman. Uh yeah,
I got it. I just always would think that whenever
it's one game like Army Navy, like all, no, I'm
not gonna bet, I'm not gonna bet. But then you
just can't. No, I gotta bet. It's the only game.
I gotta bet it. I gotta bet it.
Speaker 3 (29:40):
It gives you the excuse if you're one that needs
to watch anything you bet on.
Speaker 1 (29:44):
Is there people that are that way?
Speaker 3 (29:45):
And there's plenty of others who are like like that
three point one million dollar better never got a full
explanation in the post.
Speaker 1 (29:52):
But I would bet.
Speaker 3 (29:54):
I would bet that that guy did or a woman
or whoever was didn't watch a minute of that game. No,
they were off doing something something else. I just won
three hundred grand.
Speaker 1 (30:02):
Gotta make sure, gotta make sure I get that three
million that I put down back first as well out
a little bit.
Speaker 3 (30:08):
Everybody else sweated for them, I'm sure for that was whatever.
Speaker 1 (30:12):
Well, you know who that bet? I actually know who
that better was you do. I have the identity of
that person right here.
Speaker 3 (30:17):
I know we're able to out them here on Fox
Sports Radio, National radio, right here, National radio, at the
iHeartRadio app across the globe.
Speaker 1 (30:24):
The name of that better who bet three million dollars
to three hundred grand, so it was three hundred three
million over three hundred. Yeah, it's Monty Blagos who has
what's trending right now?
Speaker 8 (30:34):
But I have a code name when I do those butts, Lisa, Mona,
Lisa Lisa.
Speaker 9 (30:38):
When I do those bets.
Speaker 3 (30:39):
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 9 (30:40):
So you don't know what you're not supposed to like
tell people. But since we're here, but you just said
your name right.
Speaker 3 (30:44):
Because you told it, but you don't know how she
spells it.
Speaker 1 (30:49):
You told with two ends and Lisa with two s's
big l little eye big.
Speaker 9 (30:54):
There's a lot of name just giving you the first name.
Speaker 1 (30:58):
Mona Lisa Veto sure?
Speaker 4 (31:01):
Sure?
Speaker 1 (31:02):
Do you know who Mona Lisa? I don't know, really,
biological clock is ticking like this and the way this
case is going, I'm never getting married.
Speaker 9 (31:12):
Oh yeah, that sounds familiar but very distant memory.
Speaker 1 (31:15):
You don't know who that is?
Speaker 8 (31:16):
No, I'm gonna look it up after as soon as
we're done, to see if if it triggers some thoughts.
Speaker 1 (31:20):
But disclosure, there's so much we need to educate people.
That's it. That is an Academy Award winning performance.
Speaker 8 (31:27):
As I'm I'm going to look this up as.
Speaker 9 (31:30):
Soon as I'm done. All right, very good giving you
this update. It sounds familiar, but I'm not gonna lie
to you. No seems like no, no, no, no, I
don't know.
Speaker 8 (31:37):
Week fifteen of the NFL kicked off with Thursday Night
Football on kind of a snooze fest of a game
all field goals. In fact, the Rams needed four to
beat the Niners on the road. Twelve six was the
final score LA since their bye week is seven and two.
Matthew Stafford completed sixteen of twenty seven passes one hundred
and sixty yards. Karen Williams had twenty eight carries one
(31:58):
hundred and eight yards. Cooper Cup had nothing. San Francisco's
brock Party was fourteen of thirty one for one hundred
and forty two yards one crucial interception in the end
zone in the fourth quarter. But what everybody's talking about
on social media is forty nine Ers linebacker DeAndre Campbell
telling the team that he didn't want to play and
that he left in the third quarter. This is Kyle
Shanahan telling reporters after the game that this is what happened.
(32:21):
Saints head coach Jann Rizzy has named Jake Hayner the
starting quarterback for this week's game against the Commanders. In
the NBA, there were three games without Jason Tatum. The
Celtics still outscored the Pistons, went twenty three to ninety
nine to Monte. Sabonis had a double double thirty two
points and twenty one rebounds as the Kings age. The
Pelicans won eleven to one oh nine. That Heat had
a one fourteen to one oh four win over the
(32:41):
Raptors where bam Outabaio had twenty one points and sixteen rebounds.
In college hoops, number three Iowa State outscored Iowa.
Speaker 9 (32:48):
Eighty nine to eighty.
Speaker 8 (32:50):
We had college football awards giving out tonight. Earlier in
the day, two way star Travis Hunter won the AP
College Football Player of the Year. He also won the
Defensive Player of the Year, Most Outstanding Receiver, and the
Walter Camp.
Speaker 9 (33:03):
Player of the Year. Boise Stay star.
Speaker 8 (33:05):
Ashon Gents won the Maxwell Award, which is another version
of Player of the Year.
Speaker 9 (33:09):
Is my understanding?
Speaker 1 (33:10):
No, no, sorry, he didn't win that. Travis Hunter won
all the awards. It sounds that way, Yeah he won't.
I won all the awards yet.
Speaker 8 (33:16):
Well but he defensive line.
Speaker 9 (33:19):
No no, he.
Speaker 1 (33:21):
Won the Rose Awards.
Speaker 9 (33:24):
No no, no, he did not.
Speaker 8 (33:26):
Ashon Genty won the Dope Walker Award, which is the
top running back in the country.
Speaker 9 (33:30):
Miami Quarterback Cam Award win the.
Speaker 8 (33:32):
Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award, and Indiana's Kurt Signetti was
named Coach of the Year.
Speaker 9 (33:37):
The final two games on the ice have wrapped up.
Speaker 8 (33:39):
The Canucks took down the Panthers four zero and the
Cracking Out scored the Bruins five to one.
Speaker 9 (33:44):
What am I looking, Mona, Lisa veto.
Speaker 1 (33:46):
Miss Mona Lisa Vito.
Speaker 9 (33:48):
Gonna look that up right now.
Speaker 1 (33:49):
But that didn't happen here. You see this one wheel
goes up on the edge. It would have left the
mark here, but that didn't go there. This car had
the best wet width wheelbase. Yeah, okay, that could never
be with the Buick skylalk.
Speaker 8 (34:05):
Okay, yeah, yeah, I mean I love Marisa Tome, but yeah,
I don't.
Speaker 9 (34:10):
I can't say I've seen this at least as an adult,
so I don't remember it. Do you know what I'm
saying as an adult? As an adult, it's.
Speaker 1 (34:17):
All the time, but one of the greatest comedies in
the history of film.
Speaker 9 (34:21):
Yeah, I don't know if I've seen it as an adult.
If I'm being completely honest to yeah, well maybe maybe
I'll put it on the list.
Speaker 3 (34:28):
It's really the only non Karate Kids role for Machio
than anybody remembers you.
Speaker 1 (34:34):
Mona Lisa MONSI that's gonna be your nickname now, Mona
Lisa Monster perfect.
Speaker 9 (34:37):
I love it. I did like both of your impersonations.
I thought they were really good.
Speaker 1 (34:41):
Well, I've seen the movie a lot, so that's problems.
Jason Spad with Mike harmon life at the tirac dot
Com Studios. We have more in the rams than the
forty nine ers coming up in about fifteen minutes. But
straight ahead, why everything you heard today about Bill Belichick,
the opposite is what's true Jason and Mike Fox be to.
Speaker 2 (35:00):
Catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike
Harmon weekdays at ten pm. Eastern seven pm Pacific.
Speaker 6 (35:09):
Whoa Jason? Who's the mashups? Hurry up?
Speaker 1 (35:15):
New edition? No, you'll like this one. Here we go.
Speaker 6 (35:19):
Okay, going back to two thousand, baby, one of my
favorite mashups?
Speaker 1 (35:29):
What of my favorite massives? You can't play on the radio.
It's okay, I still loved it. What am I? Whoa?
Speaker 7 (35:40):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (35:40):
Can't play that? Happy happy, happy holiday? Holiday Holiday?
Speaker 4 (35:44):
Wow?
Speaker 1 (35:45):
What a Thursday night. It is The Jason Smith Show
with Mike Harmon live from the Tyron dot Com studios. Uh,
we'll have more on the forty nine Ers Rams game
coming up in a few minutes, and then Jake Laizer
going to join us next hour on the show. Phenomenal
conversation with him tonight about many things, including his controversy
(36:05):
with Aaron Rodgers the last couple of days. But let
me just say this, okay. Bill Belichick met the media
today for the first time as head coach North Carolina
tar Heels, and he spoke the same time an insider
article came out on ESPN by Seth Wickersham about how
Belichick jumped to college football because it was his choice,
(36:26):
he was sick of the politics of the NFL and
tied of the stupidness of the NFL. Lait a minute, Wow,
Is he really that man? Is he really that upset?
Would Bill Belichick jump back to the NFL if they asked?
He actually got that question at his press conference today
in this is what Bill Belichick said.
Speaker 4 (36:44):
You say to people that fear that if you do
succeed here that you might leave for the NFL again
in a year or two.
Speaker 6 (36:51):
Yeah, I didn't come.
Speaker 1 (36:52):
Here to leave. Clap, clap, everybody.
Speaker 3 (36:56):
You clap for Bill Belichick.
Speaker 1 (36:57):
That is all he's going to say on the matter.
Clim for him right now. This is why this is
opposite day, because everything that you've just heard me sum
up the opposite is what's true. Okay, if Belichick wins
the next couple of years of Carolina goes eight and four,
nine and three, and then maybe ten and two into
(37:17):
the playoff, the NFL is gonna come calling again. They're
gonna call and say hey Bill, and he will leave
in a second, say okay, great, see's now the next
head coach. I got the program going, how I wanted
see you later. I'm going back to Yeah, hell, he
would go back in a second. He's not here to
coach in college. Come on, man, he is only there
because the NFL didn't want him. All of these things
(37:38):
that Seth Wickershon puts out, and Seth Workerson was a
great writer's, great investigative reporter. But like he put out,
Bill Belichick's spin on this situation, it was his choice.
He's sick of the politics, he's tired of the stupidness
of the NFL. No, he didn't make this choice to
come to college football. He's in college because nobody in
the NFL wanted him. That's the true Belichick's just trying
(38:01):
to spin the narrative now that this was my choice
all along. Really, the interview with the Falcons last year,
talked to other teams. You're on TV now trying to
make it happen. Did you need to get on TV
to become the head coach of the North Carolina No,
you didn't. You could have just made a phone call
at the end of the season, going, hey, I'd like
to come back and coach you guys. Didn't need all
of that, all of everything you heard today. The opposite
is true, right, the opposite is true. Even in Seth
(38:23):
Wickersham's article, he talks about the teams that potentially Belichick
was interested in that. You know, are the Bears the
right fit? I don't know where the Are the Cowboys
the right fit? I don't know the Are the Jaguars
the right fit? He didn't know. If those teams wanted him,
they would have called him. It's that simple. If they
wanted them, they would have called them.
Speaker 3 (38:40):
But that's the thing with the NFL part of it. Right,
as soon as it dropped last week and we started
hearing whispers about this might be interested, right, mac Brown
gets fired.
Speaker 1 (38:50):
And I know there was some hurt.
Speaker 3 (38:52):
Feelings and anger and sadness over all of that, and
certainly mac Brown was kind of pissed at the timing
of it all. But when it when it comes down
to it, like that was your let's float the test balloon, right,
wait for a phone call to come. Nobody called, Nobody call, right,
And so it became me, all right, I guess I
(39:12):
gotta go through. And maybe he'd already been working on
the manifesto for whatever college job or other job was
going to be there. I can't imagine he's a guy
that likes to have idle time unless he's hanging out
with his girlfriend. Obviously we caveat that out. But otherwise
working and getting into TV. I mean, he didn't take
one job. How many jobs you have, three, four, five, whatever?
Speaker 1 (39:35):
It is like that.
Speaker 3 (39:36):
He's got to keep the brain active, keep the you know,
finger on the on the pulse of everything. But if
any of these jobs was going to make them make
itself available to him, these owners would have done it right.
You know who the lame ducks are across the National
Football League.
Speaker 1 (39:55):
The only wild card is Jerry.
Speaker 3 (39:57):
Otherwise, all of these other jobs like Raiders gone, Giants good,
even j.
Speaker 1 (40:03):
J Jerry would have brought him in. If Jerry, he
would have said, just wait a couple of weeks. I
gotta say I like McCarthy before I let him go,
and then I'll call you and we'll have a deal
done on Black Monday, so that it reminds me, I
gotta go buy some presents for the holidays. So okay,
got that that Cyber Monday thing happens every Monday, right,
It's not just one Monday thing. It's all the way
(40:24):
money Holiday Monday, Sober Monday, every Monday, Cyber Monday. I
could buy I could buy Amazon. If actually that's not true,
They could buy the Cowboys. Amazon makes more than I do.
Speaker 3 (40:35):
But just the idea of waiting around, if it was
going to happen, you're gonna have a job, and instead
it's the all right, I'm not gonna lose a month
if this is where it's headed. And you got the
family tie and all of that stuff. So it's a
nice story, but all these other quick to quick excuses
making and all these other things, like these are guys
(40:57):
that are normally long form and in twenty four hours
they have their opinions.
Speaker 1 (41:00):
Whatever you heard, Belichick, the opposite is true. We break
down Ninus Rams next Fox
