We'll get to a big story in the NBA coming
up in a second, but today was an unbelievably large
anniversary in television. It was forty years ago today, and
(01:03):
it's a big number. Forty years ago today, the final
episode of mash aired. Goodbye, farewell, and amen, the end
of one of the longest running shows in television history
and on anybody's list of one of the top three
four comedy dramas of all time. It still is in
the top two three. However, you want to measure it
(01:24):
of most watch television shows of all time. The finale
of Mash. Everybody watched it. I remember where I was
and where there were shows counting down to the final
episode of Match, kind of like again, now, hey, we're
counting down to the final episode of The Walking Dead. Okay, great,
But back then it was it was a different world,
and the final episode of Mash was such an event.
(01:44):
I remember watching it. I remember crying at the end.
I mean, I can tell you when when BG you
see the goodbye sign and Hawkeyes leaving and BJ's taken
off on the moped. And the thing about Mash having
the impact that it did is that there's a lot
of great shows that we always talk about, you know,
the mount Rushmore of television shows and what the best
(02:05):
comedies are, and people want to argue between the Sopranos
and The Wire and Breaking Bad, and you talk about comedies,
you get to Cheers and Arrested Development and many different shows.
But I don't know that there wasn't Like I said,
I don't know if there's been a better movie in
the modern era of movies and Back to the Future
because it has everything. I feel the same way about MASH.
(02:27):
I don't know that there's a better show that's ever
been on than Mash because it gave you everything. It
gave you unbelievably funny comedy, It gave you incredible acting performances.
It gave you drama that you had never seen before
because you know, it's a it's a comedy set in
the Korean War, and it's like, Wow, who thought that
was gonna work? Well, guess what. It worked, and it represented.
(02:49):
It gave you representation of everything you could possibly want
in a television show. And that the TV show, but
that episode specifically, because when I watched I'm twelve years
old and I've been watching TV for a while, I
really understand the power of television like that episode and
that show is something that told me the very beginning
of Okay, television is powerful, it's emotional, it's all of
(03:13):
these things. And not that this started my love law
my lifelong love of television and the media, but it
certainly did did a big aspect of pushing it forward
because I didn't know TV could be there. I didn't
know TV could be that emotional, TV could be that funny.
I didn't know TV could be all of those things
and be funny while they're operating in the in the
in the in the in the O R. And an
(03:35):
Hawkeye is cracking jokes that are hilarious, but he's trying
to save a kid's life with a tornay order. There
was just no show ever like it. And we talk
about the final episode of it a lot because of
where it is, it's pantheon and in TV history, but
overall the TV show. We should talk about it more
because there's no show that did everything that Match did. Yeah,
it's one that I came to a little bit later.
(03:56):
Um My ex's father was a surgeon in the It
was his favorite show, so I watched it a lot
when we were together. It's like, hey, you want to
watch season eight? You're like, whatever you got on the
you know, the DVD player, let's go. You know that
kind of thing. And you know, when I was younger, though,
you recognized its weight because, as you said, the countdown,
the number of years, right, your entertainment tonights and all
(04:19):
those kind of shows that were in their infancy, we're
going out of their way to spotlight the history. And
I've now celebrated Alan Alda Low these many years and
all his different roles and always remember where you saw
him as the smart ass trying to smuggle smuggle booze
and um well hit on all the nurses. So it was,
(04:41):
you know, one of those guys you wanted to be
him and as as you were you were a kid.
But it was appointment viewing, and I think that's one
of the things we've got very rare instances of that.
We talked about it with sports being the last bastion
of Hey, you're not watching this on a DVR, right,
You're not saving this for later. You're not binge watching
(05:03):
the Lakers last four games together on a Sunday. When
you have an opportunity to sit down. No, you sit
down and you catch up on insert comedy drama, what
have you there. But back then, you didn't have one
of those you know, oversized recording devices, be it VHS
(05:23):
or beta. Uh, you didn't see it right until you
got to rerun some months later, and you were salty
because you missed it. Appointment viewing families getting together and
doing all that. I that I remember certainly those conversations,
but I was young enough to where it was still
either yeah, no, too much seriousness for me. That's not
(05:44):
a cartoon. It's not Scooby Doo unmasking somebody while the
Harlem Globe Trotters or Batman and Robert or hang out.
I'm out. And I would have gotten away with it
too if it wasn't for you snooping kids earlier today.
It was an you were one that had voice actor
and in the written into the script with Sandy Duncan.
(06:08):
I don't know, wow, but it was a newer one.
It wasn't one from like the seventies or eighties. That's
all fine and good, but the point being, you know,
as you get older and you go to recognize it,
Like you said, the high marks for humor and for drama.
I mean, you've seen the A and E shows have
come close to that, right, You get your moments in
a better call, Saul, or the absurdity of some of
(06:30):
the situations and some of the other dramas that you watch.
But to do it so consistently and so well, I mean,
just brilliant writing. And who doesn't love David Ogden Styers.
I mean, come on, I mean the I mean, that's
the thing is everything you want. You want incredible comedy.
It gave you incredible comedy. You want, incredible acting performances.
It gave everybody was great right now. No one could
(06:53):
escape their characters on the show because they were Alan
Alda is one of the finest actors we've seen in
my lifetime. You could never escape being Hawkeye because everything
was gonna be Hawkeye. And they gave you the drama
and the tension where people could die and every time
there was something really funny, choppers are coming incoming wounded,
and really it's it's of all these great shows. And
(07:13):
you talk about shows like Better Call Solid that do
have moments of comedy, they have more moments of dread
and more moments of tension because their drama. No nobody
had as many clubs in the bag as Mash because
we could out funny all of the greatest shows while
giving you just as big tense moments that that these
shows gave you. It was like no nobody had there
(07:34):
there was a five tool show. How many more sports
cliches can I come up with? I mean, but that's
what it was. It was a five tool show. Some
shows are incredible power hitters. Some shows that you know,
Breaking Bad could be the digrama of dramas. But the
grams a picture. You know, you're looking at someone who
who could do it all right? You know what, what's
the Mookie Bets of shows? What's someone who can hit?
You know what, what's the Miguel Cabrera of shows. That's
(07:55):
kind of what MASH was because it was just that good,
and it was just that diverse. What it could do,
that it could give you all of those things in
every half hour was crazy. And then you spun out.
You know, McLane Stevenson leaves and he becomes Larry Alder
different strokes, and then he was there before Frasier Crane.
I mean Larry Hello, I remember the theme song, Hello Larry.
(08:19):
Look at that I got Hello Larry into this show. Yeah, dude,
And I still I still can't tell you about the drama.
And I've seen it a thousand times. When Radar comes
into the O R and tells everybody Colonel Henry Blake's
plane was shot down over the see of Japan. There
were no survivors, and it's like that was a moment
that just stopped you. What I mean, I still think
(08:40):
of that. I still see it. To the radar put
him out, I guess still remember radar put a mask
on and he doesn't have a mask on. He watched it. Yeah,
and then that is television acting one oh one, right there,
ah man, And and then it's Hawkeye, Uh do it?
You know, because he's performing surgery and he's crying and
he's staring up and he's performing surgery the same time
he's finding out that Henry Blake died. I mean, oh my,
(09:01):
got that moment. And that's I mean, mash was like
unlike any other show. And if you get to watch
reruns of it, if you experience it the first time around,
I'm telling you nothing else was like it. Twitter At
how about a Fresca, Mike. It's so now I'm gonna
want to go home and watch the end of that scene. Yeah.
The Jason Smith Jow with Mike Carmen live from the
tirerac dot Com studios. At the end of your first year,
discover credit cards automatically double all the cash back you've earned.
(09:23):
That's right, everything you earned doubled. Seriously see terms and
check it. Out for yourself at discover dot com slash match. Now, meanwhile,
something we talked about earlier tonight the Lakers, the new
look Lakers without Lebron, who is now going to be
reevaluated in a couple of weeks. All right, now, he's
coming back in a couple of weeks. But Lebron James's
foot injury is gonna have him out at least a
(09:45):
couple of weeks and then he will be reevaluated, Which
means if you're reevaluated in two weeks, are you a
week after that? Are you two weeks after that? So
now you're talking about him being out a month, And
however you cut it up, it's gonna be at least half,
if not more, of the remainder of the games of
the regular season. Who do we see them again before
the last couple of games? Maybe maybe not. Now they
(10:07):
lose tonight to the Grizzlies, which okay, it's expected, D'Angelo
Russell didn't play. They have to figure out their team
without Lebron for the next for the next bit. Tonight's
loss was expected. As much as the Grizzlies are struggling,
they're still a terrific team. John Moran had a triple double.
What are you gonna do? But for all the doom
and gloom about the Lakers, I've seen a lot of
all They're done, They're cooked, there, this, they're that. No,
(10:29):
they're not, because a remember they still have an extremely
easy schedule. What is the third easiest schedule the rest
of the way, they don't play teams that are far
and away better than they are now. Have they been
far and away better than anybody? No, But they did
make moves of the trade deadline. They did look like
they were better and that these new pieces fit, that
Russell fit, a bunch of bunch of new things they
(10:50):
have tried, have worked. But there's one thing that can
keep them afloat and get them into the playing round,
and it's the pressure of this guy's future, which is
what's on the line, because Anthony Davis's future with the
Lakers is on the line these next twenty games. He
had a big game tonight, But if he's the guy
that he was in November and December when he was
(11:13):
scoring forty points and pulling down twenty boards, and it
was this is the Anthony Davis Show every single night.
What we've been waiting for Ad to do for a
long time. Now you're finally gonna be this guy. We're
gonna dominate every night. You're gonna be honest, you have
that skill set. If that's the Ad the Lakers get,
the Lakers will be fine and they'll wind up being
in the playing Round because no teams that are seven
(11:34):
through twelve or thirteen right now, we're gonna go on
runs and win a bunch of games. It's why you're
seven through thirteen. We've seen you enough for fifty five
sixty games to know this is who you are. You're
not gonna say, oh boy, look who got hot and
just won eight in a row. No, when you're not,
when you're the lower part of the of the conference,
it's because that's how good you are. We don't see
a lot of change in the standings from game fifty
(11:54):
five to Game eighty two, so you know you have
that going your way as well. But the other part
of it is that this is AD's future on the line.
He's got a year in an option after this year
with the Lakers, and you can already tell by what's
going on this season the Lakers may not be as
all in on Anthony Davis as they were, it seemed
like there might be a little bit of tension. We've
(12:14):
heard reports. Hey, what's gone on behind the scenes Lebron
and ad Is he happy? Is he really happy in La?
If he doesn't lead the Lakers into the playing round
and has regular Anthony Davis type games where he he's
twenty four and nine, he's you know this game, he's
twenty two and eight, the Lakers are gonna move on
(12:36):
in the off season. They're gonna say, we've had you
for a while, we won the title, you're not getting better,
you can't lead us. We're gonna trade you and they'll
get whatever assets they get for Anthony Davis and they'll
remake the team that way because someone will take him
for a year in an option. All right, Hey, we
still think a d can fit in our team. We
can be a championship team. We have the money to spend,
So yeah, we'll take a D for one year at
(12:57):
at as age thirty and thirty one years. Yeah, we
can do that. So there will be people out there.
They'll be able to get something for him. They'll be
able to get another piece that they can maybe fit
in a little bit better with the team. But that's
what's at stake the next twenty games, Anthony Davis's future
as a Laker, because if he doesn't lead them, they're
gonna say, you know what, it's time to move on.
We've gotten what we've gotten out of him, and now
(13:17):
we have to go in a different direction. Yeah, the
curiosity right, twenty eight nineteen. Tonight they shoot thirty eight
percent from three point range, but they commit twenty six turnovers.
Just sloppy as hell for the the grizzy. What did
they have seven turnovers for the night? You just operational
(13:37):
efficiency and going back once again to the old a
Lakers play defense? Will you and come up with a stop?
Not there, forte, But you got twenty games. The lab
for Anthony Davis puts up the big numbers. They didn't
win without Lebron earlier. And it is a new cast
as you and I have gone back and forth, and
the curiosity of what they become as they rotate in
(14:00):
just when they were losing before it was all about
all right, Anthony Davis now has to be the guy
wearing the cape, right, He's got to be Superman. Sorry,
Dwight Howard, you're not there, So I'm stealing and putting
the cape on somebody else that you're trying to make
him the focal point and do guys by nature of
(14:22):
the way the narrative is, do they change there the
way they're handling the rotation that was looking like it
was working when Lebron was there? Like, how do you navigate?
How do you circle? You've got an advantageous schedule? Can
you take you know, full advantage of that and find
some level of dominance? Again, Darvin Hamm pleading with guys
(14:44):
to play some defense along the way is really going
to be the larger But Anthony Davis, I don't know
where the relationship is he and Lebron. You know, publicly
they say they're all good. You know, picture's worth a
thousand words, video to ape worth tens of thousands. Yeah,
I mean does he seem like he's when you look
at him, does he seem like he's happy, Like he's
(15:06):
enjoying being on the court every night and having fun?
I mean, just look at that. Does he look like
he's having fun when he's out there? He doesn't? Yeah,
I mean for the Lakers, a lot of this now
becomes the indictment of did you really work to try
to get rid of Russell Westbrook or no. But but
legitimately from the we had those reports behind the scenes,
and you saw them from multiple places, all of you
(15:27):
out there, if you're following the NBA news and rumor mills,
it was no, they're not making a trade to kind
of tell Lebron to go blank himself. You got him,
You got us into this, get us out right. If
that was legitimately out of spite that they didn't make
a move earlier, find someone to take on Westbrook only
to do the release and then he finds his way
(15:50):
back to the Clippers or whatever else it would have been.
At the time, you hamstrung yourself in a whole other
level because you don't have a lot of time. You
have no you have no lugery of losing a game
or two, especially when you're also built in this iteration
that a d and Lebron are are it as far
(16:12):
as your roster went, and you went three quarters of
the season banking on them to stay healthy and be dominant,
and that's still got your thirteenth place. Yet you didn't
make a move earlier. Why now you've got no room
for error even with the easy schedule anywhere else because
Lebron ain't coming back worthy does. He's there for the
(16:34):
final game or two to do a Queen's wave on
the way out the door. And I didn't do that
because his nickname is the King. Just that little way
everybody does, like Peyton Manning used to do in a
week in the final weeks of an NFL season before
seating for Jim Sorgey. Same kind of thing. I see
y'all later. I'm gonna stand on the sideline now. Hey,
(16:57):
no pressure a d just your future as a Laker.
That's a good luck as a good luck. That's all

have a big time conversation without saying Aaron Rodgers name.
Keep it right here, Jason and Mike. It's a challenge.
We're gonna do it. It's next. Fox This is Steve

for a second, I thought there was gonna be Lou Rawls.
For a second, I thought it was gonna be Lou
raw Second. You never fine front as long as you live.
(18:26):
I just read a book where Lou Rawls was a character.
Not that Rawles. There was a care was a guy
named Rawls, and they all called him Lou Rawls, because
of course your name is Rawls, they're gonna call you Lou.
Oh yeah, it was really it was a great book,
Michael Michael Connolly's latest, The Latest Harry Bosch Renee Ballard,
which I'm a big fan of this guy. Rawls Is
Gundel called him lou the entire time, just because the statements.
(18:49):
See I dig that. The other day I was watching
an episode of Law and Order SVU and they had
a guy on the witness standard. His name was sinder Garden.
Did they call him Thorn doctor sitting? No? They never.
I mean that would have been funny. Listen, doctor, I
mean thor. You're under own. Hey, you used to throw
like ninety nine. Man, Now you throw like ninety two?
(19:09):
What happen? You know your rate of error is really
not to your lab has really gone up the last
couple of years, your doctor, What are we talking about? Boy? Hey,
you're one of the lynchpins of that Mets rotation? Right
wait hang wait, hang on, wait wait wait wait, let
me get my Oh oh no, so okay, but then okay,
oh so um? Do you think you'll make the Dodgers rotation?
(19:32):
How to spring training? Is that going to happen? Can
you play shortstop? Can you make that throw? Fern fern, fern,
fern fern. As long as You Live, the Jason Smithshow,
Mike Carmen Live, and the tirect dot Com studios. We're
going to attempt to do something right now which we
were able. But let me just tell you this, it's
very difficult. It's a big challenge. But after the news
(19:54):
today out of Green Bay, when it comes to Aaron
Rodgers in their quarterback situation, we can have an entire
conversation without mentioning Aaron Rodgers name. And because of this,
you're going to see that there is no other solution
other than Jordan Love starting for the Packers this year
and Aaron Rodgers finishing his career someplace else. All right,
(20:17):
were ready? All right, let's go crack your neck. You're
a little bit ready to go. Um. Brian Goodakun's GM
of the Packers, said today that he's not ready to
tell everyone who their quarterback's going to be next season,
right because they're still right. There's the way, there's no well,
there's no mystery team, there's no The White Sox are
not that there's no mystery. They're still waiting to figure
(20:41):
out what it's going to be. And there's been a
lot of reports the Packers are ready to move on
and move on to their next quarterback. Now there's a
reason why we're not saying his name because this this
breaks it down for you into how Jordan Love should
be the guy. So they're not ready to say because
obviously they have a big decision to make. There's a
lot of match nations at work. Now, strip all of
that away, Strip away the identity of who their quarterback
(21:02):
was and has been for the past fourteen years. The
Packers are coming off a year where they underachieved and
their quarterback is thirty nine years old and he had
a huge drop off. Was the MVP the couple of
years before that, but it's been a huge drop off,
and you wonder is he done? Has age caught up
with him? What about his desire to play? What do
(21:24):
we do? We have a quarterback we moved up to
draft in the first round three years ago. We thought
he was so much our guy. We moved up to
draft and we knew we needed some time. And now
he's been three years without playing. We're gonna have to
exercise the option year on his contract without really seeing
him play quarterback. What does any team do in this situation?
(21:46):
You find a way to get that quarterback on the
field so you can see how good he is or
if you need to move on, because a thirty nine
year old quarterback is not your future past another year
or two, especially when you have his air ready to go. Right,
and the Packers they did it earlier before right, they
had Brett Farve. They drafted, and they drafted the guy
(22:07):
who's gonna say his name, I didn't. They drafted a
guy he was ready. He sat for a couple of years,
he came in and look, the guy became an All
Pro right away, one of the best quarterbacks in the game.
But now is he at the end And when you
have a first round pick that you have not played yet,
these guys have to see the field. You can't move
on from a quarterback unless you see him play. Now.
Some quarterbacks they get less of a break than other quarterbacks.
(22:30):
Sometimes a guy will get a whole year. Sometimes a
guy will get two or three years. Sometimes a guy
gets a handful of games. But Jordan Love basically is
going to have this year to prove that he can
be a quarterback in the NFL. So this is the year.
You have to see him on the field to do it.
The desire to see that guy before you make a
decision on it and trade him away and or say, hey,
you know what, Yeah, you're a wasted pick. It's too
(22:52):
much to overcome. Just like the Niners want to see
Trey Lance on the field before they say, Okay, brock Purty,
you're our guy, or we have to go get somebody else.
Trey Lance has not been able to get on the field,
hasn't played football in three or four years because he
was injured. He was sitting behind Garoppolo. But they need
to see him on the field. That's why they're not
going to make a big move at quarterback other than
to bring in somebody as a safety net in case
(23:14):
something happens brought Purdy's recovery doesn't go that well, or
Jordan or Trey Lance has difficulty coming back. But it
looks like he's gonna get a clean bill of health
for OTAs. But they're gonna need somebody else because you
don't know when Purdy's going to be healthy. But you
need to see him on the field. You need to
see Jordan Love on the field, especially when and this
is the clincher for me, you have been building the team, Mike.
(23:37):
The last couple of years for Jordan Love to take over.
You have gone from a pass happy team where we're
a quarterback and wide receiver driven. We're gonna throw the
football down the field all the time. We're gonna run
the football only when we have to. And that's how
we're gonna win games. And what are the Packers been
doing the last couple of years they've been building their defense.
They've been building a sledgehammer running game, not a lot
(23:58):
of emphasis on wide receivers because that's how they want
to build. Because Jordan loves skill set is much different.
He's more of a dual threat quarterback, someone who can
get outside the pocket, make plays with his legs a
little bit. This is how they want to do it.
We have two sledgehammer running backs that we can move
the ball down the field with. We were able to
keep Aaron Jones, we're keeping aj Dillon. These are guys
that we can give them the ball and split carries
(24:21):
fifteen seventeen times in a game. And that's how we're
gonna win. If our quarterback, instead of being the whole team,
can just be the lead of the ensemble cast, that's
what we're looking to do. That's the success we're looking
to replicate here where we have great We have a
really good running game. We can throw the football, we
have to, he can run with the football when he
needs to. We can play great defense, and that's how
(24:42):
we want to win. That's how they've been building the team.
They've been building it towards Jordan Loves. So, yeah, don't
is there any other outcome than seeing Jordan Love play
this year for the Packers. I can't see it. Well,
the potential for chaos is always there. He who must
not be named. Perhaps you are also making the moves
for defense and the run game and shoring up your
(25:05):
line and all that, expecting that his skill set was
going to be diminished and the ability to push the
ball down the field as he approached forty was going
to be a bit of a stretch, as we've seen
everybody else that isn't named Tom Brady. Remember in San Francisco,
you still have the wishing and hoping, and I know
(25:27):
they addressed it at the combine and all, but there's
gonna be plenty of folks with giant pictures of Tom
Brady waiting at forty nine Ers camp. And maybe it
was all a ruse with these retirement papers and the
roast of Tom Brady because he could eventually get the
itch to come back. I'm ready. Wait, the lance isn't
ready in parties? Yeah here I am. So you know, look,
(25:49):
we always look for alternate universes and all this, so
why not the Jordan loved things exciting from the just
the idea that we have chaos in Green Bay where
for thirty years it's well, there's been the dust ups
of quarterbacks threatening to retire and being pompous asses at
times that normally it's just been business as usual once
(26:13):
they actually got on the field. This year some turbulence,
an odd offseason followed by a disappointing regular season. The
defense that they cobbled together thinking it was going to
be Gangbusters didn't play well at all. They were lackluster
for most of the season. They did a lot of
work to restructure contracts and that's a positive, which means
(26:35):
at the quarterback position, you leave the door open to
see who walks through. But it's it's a curiosity in
terms of making the money work, because that's where the
fights will be, you know, as they try to transition
or they stay status quo. I would love to see
Jordan Loved play someone that isn't far and that other
(26:57):
guy for the last thirty years. No, you're gonna say
his name. You're gonna say his name. I mean, I
could push back and talk about the greatness of Don mccowski,
but I'll save that from the magic man. He's a
magic man. Mama, dude, See now I got that guitar,
Rank said with a smile. We celebrate the sisters Wilson
in our house quite a bit. But we go through
(27:20):
and you look at the squad, the way it's built,
it can be competitive. Now it's just a question of
is it door one or uh? Do you go to
the new one just because you feel you have to?
Because eventually Love is gonna have to get paid. And
in the current market place, I don't know what trade
value he'd have. You haven't seen him, you know it's
(27:40):
the old Where would he rank if he was coming
out this year? Well, he came out three years ago,
So I don't I don't know that we do the same,
Jordan Love, How do you know the guy hasn't played right?
You know what I mean? As opposed to a guy
that's maybe a year removed or sometimes we stretch it
to two years removed. But you have to explain to millennials,
who'd you love is it's been so long since he
(28:01):
played They don't know. Yeah, I mean, I still argue
that that was the right move with the roster that
the Packers had at the time, because if there was
an injury to the other incumbent quarterback, we watched it
go to hell in the past, and they were not
going to let history repeat itself. Remember, well, great they
started that season years ago and then a collarbone injury
absolutely derailed it. Sorry, Brian Huntley, I have to use
(28:24):
you as well. I might be the only guy that
actually goes back to that year and tries to argue
for the draft to give Jordan Love. But I'll do
it again. Here is that they went and they decided
to safeguard the position. Could they have gone elsewhere, sure,
But if that's the most important position with an aging
guy and a guy who'd been on the shelf a
couple of times, you had to safeguard it. And they did.
(28:45):
And now they find themselves in a quandary with a
sixty million dollar contract, petulant child at times as the
incumbent and the new guy that is just a nice
shiny mystery. Although I would like to think the Packers
given all the work he guy last offseason, you know,
while Miles Teller and his friend were circumnavigating the globe
(29:06):
that they at least got a little bit of a
sense of what he could be Twitter and how about
a fresca Mike had swollen down the Jason Smith Show
with my best friend, Mike Harman. So when you play
it out that way, right and we don't mention his name,
doesn't it sound like Jordan's love has to play? But
Miles Teller's friend, Now you did, Mile Teller. That's pretty good.
You did. It's pretty good you did that. Wait Mile
(29:27):
Teller's friend. Wait you mean hangman from No No, no, no, no,
not Clenn Powell is an actual, real friend. But now
you throw in the name, and you throw in Aaron
Rodgers and the money and what he's done over the
courts of group, and things get really complicated, right, Things
suddenly aren't, Oh well, can we really do that? Can
we not? Can we? But you take his name out
(29:48):
of it, and yeah, there's no other choice. But Jordan
loved to be playing and Aaron Rodgers still may be good. Hey,
he's got to take his chance as someplace else because
he's thirty nine. You can now you see it when
you when you open it back up, it's like on
now I get it, but strip it away and you
see it's Jordan love. Yeah, because it's that another piece
of the puzzle, right. It was last year a function
of not being around camp, not developing relationship with the
(30:12):
new guys again. Quarterback incumbent or is the front of
his shoe over the cliff like he's wildly coyote, been
duped by the road. He holds up the yipe right
before he falls. Yipe brought to you by Acne like
a product's love what. He would run all the way
(30:34):
out past the ledge and hang out in the air
for a minute, and then he would stop and he
would look around and look down and like put his
foot out in realize he's in the air. That would
hold up the sign. He would said yipe, and he
would just fall. Super Genius tire dot Com loves tires

(34:34):
in Major League Baseball. Actually the injury was a day ago,
and we get the diagnosis today. Gavin Lux, who was
set to play shortstop for the Dodgers this year, is
going to miss the entire twenty twenty three season with
a torn right ACL. Lux is ACL blue and he
was running to third base during a game against the
(34:54):
Padres a day ago. It looked ugly when it happened.
He was just running and fell down and had to
be car it off. Look, this is a big thing
because he was trying to dodge a throw to second
base on a double play where something just happened with
his knee and it gave out. Yeah, not that he
(35:16):
was the key to the Dodgers, but he was the
key to their offseason lack of spending or where they
were going with the position. Think about the last couple
of years. It was Corey Seeger, Well, Corey Seeger is
going to be a free agent. Well we got Trey Turner. Okay, great, well,
Trey Turner's couple up. We got Gavin Luckx. It was
gonna be Seeger to Turner to Lux. That was it.
(35:39):
And now Lux who knows when he plays again? Because
the Dodgers went into this offseason saying, okay, we need
to see some young kids play. We got to see
if a guy like Gavin Lux can be here everyday shortstop.
He's a huge prospect, and and maybe he winds up
being the guy. And now they don't spend a lot
of money. They let a couple of other veterans go,
and okay, well we're gonna see some young guys play.
(36:00):
And now we're gonna wait and we'll make a deal
at the deadline because well, with whatever we need at
the end of the year, because we spent a lot
of money last year to get knocked out of the
playoffs early, so okay, we can buy our time this year.
Now you have a get by guy at shortstop, right,
which is what it is. Miguel Rojas is thirty four.
He's a pretty he's pretty good defensively. He kind of
fell off a lot last year hitting, so you can't
(36:21):
really expect a ton from him. But the Dodgers now
almost have to make a big move because this is
another big hole in their lineup that they can affect.
Now they look so top heavy with Hey, their first
four still look really good in their lineup, and you
get outside of that and it's wow, this is wow, man.
You just that just falls off a cliff down down
the end of the lineup. So now the Dodgers are
(36:43):
going to have to make a move. They're gonna have
to make a big power move, whether it's for a shortstop,
which would be the right move to make, or another
position to bring somebody in and try to do some
other things. But they need another bat, you other bat,
and they need somebody that can get on base. They
need somebody else to stick in that lineup. That's not
going to be someone who, hey, here's a breather in
the lineup where the opposing pitching can go, Okay, I
(37:03):
got through the first four and out. Now I got
the Now I got the bottom five of the line.
The next two winnings could be pretty good as long
as I don't walk eyes or throw bad pitches. The
Dodgers are gonna need to make a big move. They're
gonna and they're gonna make a trade. I can't see
them trying to tread water with Miguel Ross. It's nice
and he'll be the shortstop till they figure something out.
But he was brought in to be the guy that
could play a little bit in case something happened to
(37:24):
Gavin Lux. He's not someone that's well he could split
time or he can play the Lions share. No, he
was brought in defensive replacement, someone that can play in
a pinch. The Dodgers will make a big move, and
I love that. John Paul Morossi joined us earlier and said, hey,
he thinks maybe the Dodgers and the Yankees are gonna
make a trade because the Yankees have so many shortstops available.
But the Dodgers are gonna make a big move because
they really have no choice all about position scarcity. What
(37:46):
was strange as you had the two injuries that really
kind of ruled the the news cycle. As you have
this injury for Lux, and you see it once, you
don't need to see it again. And then you have
a LaMelo ball breaking his own ankles literally as he
goes down, and we'll see when he's able to get
(38:06):
back on the court next year. But for Lux, it
was the expectation that this was going to be the breakthrough.
All right, this is your put up or shut up season.
You saw a churn in the Dodgers roster, A lot
of the familiar faces are gone, and the expectation was
that he was going to be one of the young,
(38:28):
though familiar faces to take a big leap and provide
a spark in the squad. You bring back Rojas. He
was a guy that was there a decade ago. Not
two sixty career hitter, little bit of speed in twenty
twenty one, but not a guy that really dots anything
in the box score terribly well, just kind of a
(38:50):
stop yap. So, yeah, the fact that the Yankees would
be potential trade partner, how great is that for baseball?
Oh Man, We'd talk about the impact of a Dodgers
Yankees trade all season. Look at this trade. The Yankees
made it was the worst trade. What a great trade.
The Dodgers made an awful trade. I think we talk
about it all year long, whatever happened. But I don't
(39:11):
know the Dodgers. They might have to go bigger than
a guy like Kiner Filetha or somebody because they I mean,
you're now you're talking about a huge hole, a huge
hole in your lineup where you go from a guy that, hey,
maybe a table setter with a little bit of pop
that could no. No, now it's okay. Now you've got
to get by guying oh wow, you can't really have
not in this division where the giants are better than
(39:31):
people think, the padres just keep reloading and handing out money.
So it's just gonna be a tougher road this season
for the Dodgers. But as you point out, with the
roster that you're putting in, and look, the Dodgers have
the ability to go to the brings truck, go to
the well, and they always have the stocked farm system,
at least historically. Is that still the case. That remains
(39:53):
to be seen. But you're already putting a lot of
push on Trace Thompson to be a guy to give
you great production. And we know he's had a topsy
turvy world and the batting averages leaves some to be designed.
He's thirty three, now, I mean you know it's not yet.
It's yeah, right, I mean JD. Martinez, what's he going
to be? You bring Miguel Vargas is a guy that
(40:16):
you're excited about, but does he perform? Like you just
have a lot of question marks not to mention, go
to your rotation or you already have had a number
of questions, including the fact that you couldn't get insurance
for Clayton Kershaw's back for the World Baseball Classic, which
still remains an issue to me. I don't know if
I'm the only guy raising my hand going what the hell?
(40:36):
And the medicals there were problematic. You're penciling him in
for like one hundred and eighty innings. I can't do it.
He just call Steve Cohen. Hey, we'll get out. I'll
get you out of that deal. Don't worry. But you
know what I mean, we'll get you out of There's
just so much to it of uncertainty and losing a
guy this early in spring training. You know timing, I guess, hey,
(40:58):
it's at the outset so you've got a month to
try to make some moves or ascertain what you've got
on the farm. But this is just crazy. Watch out,
Dodgers gonna make a big trade at some point pretty soon.
Twitter at how about a fresca? Mike gets swollen down
