(00:46):
of the newest features in the app, you can select
Fox Sports Radio is one of your presets, just like
the presets on a radio dial, so be sure to
preset Fox Sports Radio in the iHeartRadio app. It'll always
pop up in the top of your screen, so lock
it in. Had ripped the knob off just really quick
before we get into the big NFL move today. Uh
you know, maybe the pirates aren't so bad. Okay, they
(01:09):
every look at you every game is a shutout. Schemes
with a shutout. Today, they've allowed four runs in their
last five games. All of a sudden, all the Pirates
e was a mess to show up and now they're
world beaters. Well, they also just needed the motivation of
you know this Paul Skeens guys making you all look
like a bunch of jumps. He's gonna leave if you
don't start getting your asses and gear. And they just
(01:29):
happened to catch the right team at the right time,
and bam, we're setting records because you went through the
weekend and they're like, wow, futility, which day to Skiens pitch? No,
he didn't know. When you lose twelve one doesn't really matter. No,
that's really really matter who pitches, man, it makes makes
no difference. Like we're losing those games regardless. Okay, sorry, buddy,
(01:52):
he had a good run. I'll tell you. We gotta
get Grimmas. Gott get Grimace tomorrow, get Grimace comes back tomorrow. Things.
You just need to go get one of those boot
leg patchwork Grimace outfits that they were selling in droves,
and you just need to go crash the field. Oh okay,
all right, but I'll bail you out. Okay, we'll get
(02:12):
to go fund yourself going. Okay, that'll work. You'll get
some notoriety. Yeah, I don't think that's against your morals,
claws in your contract. Okay, yeah, I think you're right.
I think I think you're right. I think you know
I Heeart and Fox Sports Radio would would welcome a
little of that publicity. Look at that lunatic Jason Smith.
Look how big a fan he is of sport. He
was trying to break the curse whatever has come over
(02:34):
the bats of them. Sure that was him? Oh yeah, no,
Look you can see you can see him right there,
You see me. He's wearing sweatpants and yeah, no, no,
that's him. That's absolutely well. If we could paint a
little uh you know, fu man chew on you or something,
we could say it's your evil brother. You're even a
twin brother. Yeah, because I'm not growing a mustache as
never happening. Among the things you'll never go. If I
(02:54):
could take a pill that would allow me to never
have to shave again, I take it, don't I wouldn't
care about a lot of the side effects. Side effects
include death, this memory, your fingers may fall off. Your
toes can fall off too. Yeah, it's all right though,
but I will have to shave again. I won't need
my fingers because I won't have to shave, so I'll
be good. Yeah, I've decided to go without that for
a few days. As surely coming in silver now, So
(03:16):
I don't know. Yeah, no, no, its betrays me because
otherwise I have a youthful look about me. I've never
wanted to. I can't stand it, can't stand. I want
to shave all the time. I got it because I
have that like Homer Simpson five o'clock olock shadow. The
minute after I'm done shaving, he walks off as the
shadow is back. Yeah, it's always always there. Sorry, never
(03:36):
do it? Uh, Now, get you a nice makeup kit.
We could probably get a sponsor to work with us. Air.
I got folks that work over a couple of those places. Yeah, okay,
all right, we'll see if we can pull that off.
Take a shine, We'll see what we can do here.
What you do? How about that? Can you make him
not look like Homer Simpson? Yes, we can do that.
(03:56):
Yes for good? Uh sou for five o'clock. Watch this
is gonna seem weird, but I'm gonna say it, and
I'm one hundred percent on I'm not. I never lie
to you, I but I'm one hundred percent honest when
I say this. It's a bold proclamation when I say,
when I say ghost, hey, come on, things getting a
(04:19):
little loose. So honesty, Yeah, it is. It is one
hundred percent such a lonely word, it is. Yesterday we
talked about the big trade with the Dolphins and the Steelers,
and the Steelers decide, hey, we want to go for
it now, so we'll take John Newsmith and Jalen Ramsey
to all Pro players. We'll trade you an All Pro
player who is not happy with us in Micka Fitzpatrick.
Send him back to the place he was unhappy at
(04:40):
when we traded for me in the first place, and
I threw to look and for it when he joined
us earlier. Yeah, eventually the TJ. Watt thing gets done.
It's writing's on the wall. But every day it's not signed,
you gotta be a little angsty there in the Greater
Pittsburgh area. So the big question coming off this we
talked about it last night, is you know, I can't
tell you what the Dolphins are doing I don't because
(05:01):
it doesn't seem like they have a plan. I feel
like part of their front office and ownership has one plan,
and the head coach and and and Chris Greer and
the rest of the team they have another plan. Because
their moves just don't make sense. They're not in sync
with each other. What are they They felt like this
trade was all about dumping money, right, They didn't want
to pay John hu Smith, They want to pay Jalen
Rams any more money. We're gonna dump this money. We're
(05:21):
gonna get a little bit younger and Mike A. Fitzpatrick.
So okay, but it felt like, hey, we are completely tanking.
We're we're gonna get We're not gonna get better because
this trade did not make them better. We're going to
just not spend money and tank and and this is
an awful thing for a team that a year ago
was up and coming and hey, we're gonna be the
fastest team in the NFL and watch out. But the
(05:42):
biggest question was, Okay, so they trade John hu Smith,
who was a top four tight end in the NFL. No,
we can't use that guy. Whoa but they didn't have
a tight end on the on the roster to replace him. Right,
nobody could catch passes, right, Jimmy Cefalo is not gonna
walk through that door. Well, their next next guy has
played like eighty five career games, has like seventy catches.
So strange, I believe. What did the Dolphins do? They
(06:06):
traded a sixth round pick to the Giants to get
the rights to Darren Waller, who is unretiring to go
play for Miami. Darren Waller okay, uh, And it's a
kind of a pick swap. They get a conditional seventh
round pick back. Basically, it's a low round pick. And
the Dolphins with plenty of good tight ends out there,
(06:30):
you could go get, right, Cole Comet available, right, perhaps, yeah,
Michael Mayer available, Like, there's some guys out there. There's
some dudes out there you can get. But wait a minute,
these guys you'd have to pay some money too. They'd
be coming up for money. No, No, let's go get
Darren Waller, who hasn't been good since twenty twenty. Okay,
and who was coming off of retirement. He hasn't been
(06:53):
healthy and hasn't been good in five years and he retired.
But no, no, this is the guy gonna come out
of retirement catch passes for us? Like, and this is
what I mean when I say that, You're gonna think
I'm lying. I feel bad for Dolphins fans. I feel bad.
I mean as a Jets fan saying this when I
the Dolphins. I love sweeping Dolphins. Dolphins fans, yeah, eh,
go bye. But no, I feel bad for because they
(07:15):
have to sit here now in the in the beginning
of July and go, what are we doing? Are we
really trying this year that this is this is our thing?
We're gonna get worse on the field, and not only that,
we're not gonna even try to get better, because I
get it if it's well, we don't want to pay
John hus Smith. So they go get Michael Mayer, who's
got a couple of years left on his rookie deal.
Maybe he becomes good, right that I get, right, I
(07:36):
would get something like that. I'd get going to say, well,
we like cole Comet a little bit more like I get,
but saying oh, we're now gonna gonna try to cash
a lottery ticket on Darren Waller, who again hasn't been
good in five years, has been able to stay on
the field in five years, has been away from the
game for a year. Guys usually don't come back after
they're away from the game for a few months and
(07:58):
are able to play. It's not like he sat up
because of injury. He was done at the divorce from
Kelsey Plumb last off season, did his song, taking time,
all of that stuff. Now he's gonna come out now.
Now this is where the Dolphins are saying, yes, here's
a number one tight end. Like, really, I feel bad
for Dolphins fans because they are punting on the season.
They're trying to make it look like they're doing something
(08:18):
when all it is is, hey, we don't want to
spend money and we're trying to go cheap here at
tight end where I mean it. I feel bad for
Dolphins fans. I feel bad for any team that has
to sit in the time when the last time of
year where all thirty two teams should be optimistic is
before you get to training camp, you realize, oh boy,
this guy stinks, this stinks, this is bad, this is bad. Summer,
(08:40):
July and August should be a time of great optimism.
Then when the footballs fly for really, you realize, oh man,
we stink. I'm looking at the draft, but this is
that time, and you don't have that, like Dolphins fans.
A couple of teams don't even have this. And this
is why I feel bad for you, because I've had
seasons like this with the Jets when they're like, hey,
forget about this year. We're not even thinking about neck.
We're talking about like two three years from now. But
(09:00):
I feel bad because I don't know what the Dolphins
are doing other than we're not spending money and we're
in a stasis. We're in some sort of static time
where I don't know what direction the team wants to go,
and the players and the coach are going in one
direction and the front office is going in another, and
you got the GM stuck in the middle. Like this
(09:20):
is just not good for anybody, but specifically, Yeah, I
feel bad for Dolphins fans. I'm being honest, Wow, look
at you. I mean, obviously it's a difficult spot. You
changed out about half of your defense, Chris Greer making
some big moves there. And then obviously this trade comes up,
which had been rumored a while, and John Neus Smith
monster year what eighty eight catches A year ago? Eight
(09:41):
hundred and fifty yards all of that stuff, and it
seems like you'd at least got into some level of
calm with the Tyreek Hills situation, that no longer was
that an adversarial relationship, and that looked like you were
getting your time to heal there. See what I did,
pull it all the way back and trying to get
(10:01):
Jalen Waddle back on the guy that he was two
years ago, so that you're building with speed to it,
stayed healthy whatever the taekwon know, whatever they're teaching him
to do, that he's able to make some plays, and
that you're gonna go full throttle with Chan as your
primary running back. And now you just take out a
(10:22):
huge target, a guy that owned the middle of the
field for you and kept to it from getting knocked
on his ass repeatedly. Right, here's your safety valve. Just
dump it off to Johnny Smith, let him pick up
the first down, extend drives back things off so that
eight Chan's got some more room to run. I mean
all of that. You take him out, and Farrell Brown
(10:42):
was the other guy that was there, right, So strangely
you decide to move away. You know, you mentioned a
couple of options. There's a lot of teams that have
a second, second tight end that you could have gone
and kicked the door and tried to bring him along
come that would have cost you a bunch of money.
Smith eventually did sign with Pittsburgh an extension for twelve
(11:04):
million dollars. But all of that to say, you've got
guys who've been in the game, and Darren Waller is
a great story of redemption. We know is arc right,
the battle with all alcoholism and addiction, the personal trials
of what went on with Kelsey Plumb. We have fun
with his music, no question, but all of that, it's
a great story that doesn't translate into making your team
(11:26):
a contender. We talk with Locke and Ford and he
immediately just goes, yeah, their last in the division, without hesitation,
without saying, well, they'll battle either of the Patriots or
the Jets. Like no, they are hands down the words
And McDaniel would be the leader on any any board
for first probably out the door, oh one hundred percent.
(11:47):
And are you really is to a long term right?
But that's the thing are you taking to try to
get a guy next year? Is that? Is that? Is
that where Greer is trying to do this so that
maybe he gets to hold on to his job and
you're probably another quarterback and you're saying, hey, someone will
want to because he's flashed. Look two is a really
good quarterback. He's got to be in the right system
where he's not asked to do a lot of things.
(12:09):
Great physically, but he also has a concussion issues. Like
I wonder if this is good, this is it for him?
Then that this So you're setting it up where you
have a GM thinking, well, I can get another quarterback
in maybe I've got another coach or that McDaniel gets
to go with another young quarterback. Because think about everybody's
all salivating about the quarterback class in twenty six, right,
(12:32):
Arch Manning's the greatest thing I've ever seen. Couldn't beat
out Quentin Ewers. Oh, by the way, who's the third
straight quarterback on the Dolphins. Telling you, Man, I feel
bad for I feel you're paying Dolphins fans. I think
because I've gone through it. When your team has no
idea what they're doing in the on the field product
and off field product are playing tuggle war with each other,
that's terrible. That's awesome. Though you've been the last place
(12:54):
team of the FC East and now your Patentos fans
on the head. Yeah, I know. How wellful is that feel? Though? Yeah,
there's a little bit of you there A Dolphins smile
at that came of real bre Dolphins fans. We walk
around Miami tomorrow going Jason Smith said he felt bad
for us. That is a look in the mirror moment
if I ever thought it. Jason Smith feels bad for
Dolphins fans and he's a judge fan. They're gonna try
(13:16):
to win every game this year, sixteen thirteen, and he
feels bad for us. He was so dark and sad
about our team and thinking about it, he grew that
homer since at five o'clock Shadow, that guy feels bad
for us, all the crap he's been through. You haven't
been to the playoffs and over a decade, and he
feels bad for us. Wow, I mean that's that. But
(13:38):
that's how it goes, man. That's that's how you start
recruiting people to your fan base. Right there. Exit up
about a Fresca exit swollen dome. Jason Smith Mike Harmon

Speaker 1 (14:44):
All five second Dance Party, Fox Sports Radio. The Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon. They screwed
these guys On this day. In nineteen eighty nine, Millie
Vanilly went to number one for the very first time
(15:07):
with Baby Don't forget my number, Rob and fab I
bet it was the last time too. No, no, no, girl,
you know it's true. Blame it on the rain. They
gotta blame it on something. And they had three or
four number one hits. I actually you know what this.
I don't know if I ever told the story before, Babe,
(15:30):
I actually saw them in concert. Okay, did you really
in Syracuse? Is a great story? Like this is like
you canna say, no way this happened. So this is
back when I was on the air a Z eighty nine,
Jason Mason on Z eighty nine and Syracuse right, the
music mix is the difference. You kept the tickets for yourself? No, no,
no way, no, no, no no. It was uh. Actually
(15:50):
one time they made me go and and and give
tickets away to a Bad Company concert and I'm like, dude,
we played Top forty, but it doesn't matter. We have
to show that we're out there. And they were like
then and the manager was like, can you go out
to the fairgrounds and give these tickets away? I go,
I go, what no one who listens to does we
play Top forty New Kids on the Block. Doesn't matter.
We got to show we have a presence. I'm like,
(16:12):
tickle go do it right. I was like, what the hewn?
But it's Bad Company. People would line up around the
block from Bad Company to so it was you know me,
I'm a big classic rock so I was like okay,
So I went, You'll gave you the tickets away and
I went to the concert, right, Okay, it's fine. But
they were like okay. So we had a thing being
out at the Cayuga County Fairgrounds for the It was
(16:32):
one of those MTV like concert tours that had like
four or five acts and they all did like four songs.
It was Millie Vanilly and Seduction. Who I love seduction.
Oh my god, sod I listened to seduction songs in
the rain. It's like one of my guilty pleasures, Like
I want to rip off a seduction here, a little
bit of uh seduction. Seduction was awesome. Don't know who
(16:56):
these people are. It takes two to make a thing
go right, Oh that was it was great? Yeah, breakdown
so awesome. Yeah. So it was Millie Vanilly and Seduction
and a cup. I forget who it was, right, but
Milli Vanilly because they're popular, right, they have well they
have they have had two or I think they had
all three of their songs at number one at this point.
So we go out. I go out there, and you know,
(17:18):
it's a big stage and maybe like I don't know,
maybe like like between seven and ten thousand people totally
at the Cayuga County Fairgrounds. It's a big you know,
dirt track for uh some sort of whatever, some sort
of we have a weed sport anyway, so it's a
big where they did. They do a lot of of
off off off off road events, doesn't matter. So we
(17:41):
go and it's an outdoor theater and I'm in the back,
you know, behind everybody, but I'm still pretty close to
the stage, and so Milli Vanilly comes on stage right,
so everybody's waiting for that. I think they did five
songs on this day in nineteen ninety, Right, That does
that sound right? It might have been it might have
been this day there at Weedsport in nineteen ninety. It
might have been rocking at Weedsport. Yeah you second, nineteen
(18:02):
ninety Yeah, this is the day. Yeah, August second, nineteen ninety. Right,
it was a summer round for the FRO. You'll find
this was the best part. This is the best part,
so millivanily and then like the stage is dark and
you start hearing this like these weird guitar uh like sounds,
and now you get everybody's getting pumped up, yelling people
want to see MILLIEVANII right, Okay. All of a sudden,
(18:25):
like the curtain comes out and the spotlight comes on
this guy playing the guitar and it looks like he's
dressed like the Predator. Okay, so I'm like, what is
going on? Like this is the same and he starts
playing the riff to Ain't talking about Love by Van Halen,
and I'm like, what is happening to you? Person? Doo
doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo du bar
(18:45):
And I know, people just going, what the hell is
that going? They're playing and this is van Halen? What
the hell is going on? Right? And the spot and
you just keep playing that that bit over and over
due doo doo doo doo doo doo doo du boo. Wow. Right,
all of a sudden, Robin Fab come.
Speaker 3 (19:01):
They're on stage right, and there's all these ninjas start
coming out of nowhere, okay, and they start attacking them
but Robin Fab have the katana swords and they start like,
you know, mock killing the ninjas who would fall.
Speaker 1 (19:14):
Off the stage. They run and they high five each other. Ah.
While this guy is playing the ain't talking bello and
the crowd is losing his micau. They're watching these Robin Fed,
these ninjas attacking Robin Fab, and they would they would
like like kill a guy and he would run and
jump off of trampolines. And this guy's still playing a talk.
(19:34):
He's not even moving right. He's not even moving right,
so uh, they run him in and at one point
they were jumping off of trampolines high fiving in the air.
It's like it's like watching like uh, like watching the
phoenix gorilla run and jump and dunk right like it's
like they're getting that kind of air under them. And
I'm like, this is insanely fun. Oh my god, I
love these guys. Everybody has everybody's left. And then they
(19:57):
go right in the baby don't forget my number, girl,
you know it's your and they had the crowd. It
was it was so awesome. It was so odd just
to see that happened. But I'm good because I could
still see them, Like, if you tell me what I remember?
Remember the guy looking like the Predator dressed up in
some kind of crazy outfit, playing that guitar and then
them leaping so high in the air, high fiving each other.
(20:18):
It was awesome. So I found the promo. It was
a Miller Lite stage. Okay, Young MC Induction, Now, if
there was anybody else, they didn't make the ahead. I
think it was Seduction, then Young MC, and then Millie
Vanilly there you go there And that was back when
(20:39):
Young MC, I think had he had. His two songs
were Bust to Move and Principal's Office were big ones, right, yeah,
and and and and and biggest mistake in his life,
Like he wrote wild Thing and gave it to Tonin. Yeah, dude, Wow,
dude you could have been I mean, wow, you could
have kept wild What do you think his cut was
of all that? I hope he made money on that. Well,
he had to make something. The question of how much? Yeah,
(21:01):
I mean now Old MC would like that money back.
I wonder if there's any video of that. Yeah, I
haven't found the video of the concert. I found that ad. Yeah,
so we just watched the ad, but I couldn't tell
are they lip syncing?
Speaker 4 (21:12):
Are they not?
Speaker 1 (21:12):
But the thing is it And what I remember is
thinking that even if they were, nobody cared well and
everybody show about that time, right mcdonnare running around and
then thinking about what ended up happening with Britney Spears
and all the other like, who cares, nobody's on stage.
I didn't care. They're running around with Katana swords they were,
(21:33):
and you're signed by Randy Jackson. I wished it was awesome.
I'm like, this is this is this is one of
the best content. You go on by a trample to
me and my dad jumping high five and come on, dad,
you we gotta get higher than come on, we gotta
(21:53):
get higher in Phoenix, we gotta beat the street. That
was so entertaining. It was so and seduction was good
and young like this is really fun. And again it
was great because it was like, this is like a
concert I would like to go to like now in
my fifties, because I'm like, hey, I don't have to
sit through all these badass songs that people insist on playing. No,
(22:15):
let me hear your five or six good ones. Give
me a lot of energy. Next band, give me the
next band. Okay, you got guys. I mean that was
really Donna Swords and all that. So I found the
ad strangely after doing a Google search that led me
to a page on Facebook Syracuse Nostalgia. Hey, anybody remember this?
(22:36):
They're Rocket? That was always that was it. Whenever I
read the commercial for the concert, it was, you know,
it's summer when they're rocking at Weedsport, Like that's exactly
the tag that they I remember that. I remember going
back like years later and like we like we visited
my dad. We're going to visit my dad, and we
actually drove through Weedsport to have lunch. I'm like, oh
(22:56):
my god, you know the time I spent here when
I was in college and I'm telling Pam these stories
about I was out here for Milly event, I was
out here for Tesla uh and I got a I
got a fight with a guy who kept telling me
to go in the concert. And I was giving away
tickets and I'm like, the stop yelling at me, and
the guys like you should go in the car, go
in the concent I'm I'm giving away tickets. Go Tessa's
doing love song, you should go, And I want to
hear them do love song. It's one of my favorite songs.
(23:18):
Just shut up. Like this guy was just like when
I'm trying to give tickets, he was mad. Probably I
wouldn't give him a ticket, but he was like, I'm like,
why am I? But why am I out there again?
Love song? We're not playing that song. But I don't care.
I get to go to these concerts for free. So
I was like, all right, I'll go get the tickets away,
no fine away that. I gotta find video of that
(23:40):
guy like, yell, this stuff's fine and then jumping on
trap the lee It's fine. I saw them do that
in their music videos. But dude dressed like the Predator. Yeah,
riffing to Van Halen, I'm in And I want to
say the guitar was like with an axe on the
top of it or something or some kind. Wasn't on fire.
I don't know, man, I wasn't on fire talking about
he stealing from the from he was nineteen ninety, so
(24:02):
I mean we we nineties were awesome worked up to that,
damn true. Uh So you know, is a fantastic now
another place that I have good memories of and I
have good experiences that one WNBA star decided to day,
oh no, to tell everybody that nobody likes this city.
(24:23):
So on the heels of the WNBA announcing yesterday that hey,
we're gonna expand, yeah in the next three years, right,
we're gonna Cleveland's getting a team, Detroit is going to
get a team, Seattle's getting a team. All right away,
expansion everybody, Thank Caitlyn Clark. This wouldn't happen without her.
So Sophie cunning Jobs. So Sophie Cunningham, who has gotten
a lot of publicity, gotten very gotten a lot of
(24:44):
relevance over the past couple of weeks. You know, the
big protecting of Caitlin Clark. She's become a star. Now,
he's got what five hundred thousand more followers on social
media and after that game against the Sky right, like
she's she's taking advantage of this opportunity that is out
there for everyone. Instead of saying, oh, I'm jealous of
Caitlin Clark, to say, oh, there's unprecedented attention on the
w NBA. Let me carve out a niche for myself. Well,
(25:06):
but she's like those NBC ads back in the day.
If you missed it in the fall. It's new to
you because Sophie cunning game ain't new. No, she's been
around a while, but all of a sudden, everybody's like, hey,
who's Sophy Gunning. But a lot of these players are
new to everybody because they're just paying attention to w
NBA for the first time. So it's your chance to
really garner attention, and players are taking advantage of it.
(25:27):
And I love Sophie cunning him until she said this
because she's not happy that this is where the w
NBA is expanding to because she doesn't think anybody in
the league wants to go play in these cities. Exactly
it is. It's when lovely, you're just getting more.
Speaker 4 (25:44):
And so I get that aspect, but I also think
that you you want to listen to your players too,
like where do they want to play?
Speaker 1 (25:51):
Where are they going to get excited to play? So
why do you think that Miami would have been great?
Speaker 4 (25:56):
Like everyone loves Lord.
Speaker 1 (25:57):
Of Nashville's a meeting.
Speaker 4 (25:58):
Here comes amazing opportunity. There's a huge arena downtown that
know it's missing, and I think that the Women's Soccer
League is showing that light people draw, you know, and
so I'm not so sure what the thought process is there.
Speaker 1 (26:14):
But at the end of the day, you also want
to expect you're not explaining. Are they too fast?
Speaker 4 (26:17):
I think that's also another thing that you don't want
teams to totally don't pay it out teams.
Speaker 1 (26:23):
That art And so I just think that I don't
want It's kind.
Speaker 4 (26:25):
Of a hard decisiascurge situations.
Speaker 1 (26:28):
But man, I don't I don't know how excited you
are you want to Detroit a since han, Wow, I
don't know how excited players would be to go to
Detroit or Cleveland? Is that wrong? Wow? Hey, hey, whoa, whoa.
I have vacation in Detroit now I've done it for
mary years and Michigan. Michigan is a great state. There's
lots of fun things to do. There's in every city
(26:50):
that's outside of Detroit. There's places where you, Yeah, you
don't have to go vacation in downtown Detroit, you know,
not everybody's every when everything is closed and and the
boudet as a open. But that's any city in the
United States. Must grat dinners. Yeah, you get muskrat dinners,
go to wine dott casinos, the casinos downtown like this
is this is such a statement from someone who okay,
(27:13):
is that she's she's becoming a star, but really understand
what you're saying. You don't take shots at other cities.
You don't take shots you play in Indiana. Which was
a well traveled line today, I thought her best line
was in the middle of it. She should have stopped. Yeah,
I mean, we gotta be careful that we don't expand
too aggressively, right, And I think that which I think
(27:34):
is a brilliant line, right, I think that is a
really good line. They didn't need to come back with
the shovel and hit Detroit, Cleveland and Seattle. And they
should listen to the players, yes, because that's what the
NBA and in the NFL does. Hey, where should we
put on team like, like, you know again, show me
you can handle success, right, show me show me you
understand sports and not just say, oh, well, hey, guess
(27:55):
what the players all say they'd rather go play in Nashville,
So that's what we're gonna expect. Oh, so we can
make that happened. Now we have people that are front
the money and go up to like this is one
of those what are you doing what are you doing
when you're when you're taking on other cities that you
don't be I don't care if you don't like the city,
that's fine. And I would say this if I didn't
go vacation in Detroit and I got family lives in
Ohio too, And you know, my wife, she loves her
(28:16):
family in Ohio, can't stand the state because she's a
Michigan fan. I don't stop for gas in Ohio because
the whole thing with with Sheen Beckler and you know,
all going all the way back and what he hates
stoping for gas. I'm not saying we don't stop for
gas in Ohio when we go back, right and we
go visit family. She doesn't want to do that. What
do you what are you doing? Like?
Speaker 4 (28:31):
What?
Speaker 1 (28:32):
Why would you possibly say that when it's cities that
you have to go play in and and it's that
are never going to forget that that? You know what?
These are all big market cities, Okay, These are all
bigger markets than where you play. You know, Detroit is
a top fifteen market, right, Cleveland's a top fifteen markets,
Seattle's top fifty. These are all play places to go.
When you say stuff like that, you just sound naive
(28:53):
and like you don't really understand the business of sports
and how things actually work. And I feel bad because, hey,
she's taken it avantage of a great situation, and I'm like, hey,
this is what all ed WNBA players should be doing
instead of worrying about how jealous they are about Caitland
Clark's success. Hey, let me realize that this is my
time to shine and my time for people to and
(29:13):
and time for people to know who I am. And
so even though I've been in the league for a
few years, people get who I am. Kelsey Plumb has
been in the league for a long time. People are
just starting to get to know who she is. Was
a leading scorer in college basketball before Caitlyn Clark came
in and broke the record. When you say something like this,
I go, come on, I mean, really, you just you really,
you just sound naive and you don't understand the business
(29:34):
of sports. Listen to the players, and that's where we're
gonna go. Expands. Why would you want to go play there?
You know what? Like I said, Detroit, Ohio, The Michigan's
a beautiful state. There's so many great places to go there,
you know, it's like you think, oh, I have to
go to the places where I don't want to be
in those cities. No, you can go wherever the hell
you want to. You can get There's not a lot
of traffic. You can get there. You can go. You
could take seventy five to Chicago and be there in
(29:55):
a couple hours. You could take you can take seventy
five north. You could be out. You go past twelve mile,
which is beautiful, Bluefield Hills and all these places. You
can go to Traverse City, you go all the way
up to Mcinall Island. You can all these play all
these places I've been now that I can tell you about.
You can go get a muskrat dinner in downtown wind
Out if you want to. They'll cook that thing for
you with dom Polski's. You can go have that. There's
foot there's good things in all of those places. Brought
(30:17):
to you by the Committee for Detroit Tourism, as narrated
by Jason Smith. Or just go to the casino. I mean,
I don't know, you could just go to I don't
know about he getting Kathy Engelbert will that you're hey,
here's a WNBA player hacking out of the Okay, we
get you with a montage of like video of all
these places that you've named, including sitting down for your
(30:39):
muskrat dinner, and then the files. You could just go
to the casino. Go to the casino waiting for you.
I don't know that you can have a muskrat dinner
at a casino, but you can get a lot it's live.
I think it's uh, it's okay out there. You might
be able to just bring it in any of the
casino being live or the muskrat being well, they cook
it for you and they charge you by the pound.
(31:00):
Say live, I said, alive. Okay, But all of that
to say bring it to me. I want to pick
my muskrat out. I want to kill it with my bike.
But some of this goes back to get on. I
got my electric scooter. Let's go boy. Oh no, I
got my muskrat whacken club. That you had committees that
(31:25):
gave up proposals. That means these three cities, guess what
the money is there? And it's not just an idea
off in some nebulous cloud. Now to find out what's
trending in the wide world of sports with someone who's
been called the Tony Taneil of Fox Sports. Wow, they
both know all the words to muskrat Love. It's Steve Disager.
(31:46):
I am the captain. Now. By the way, as you
are listing all the Detroit areas, there you could go here,
you could go here, you could go here and there,
And that reminded me of the old sn L Change bank.
Oh yeah, you're ready, you bring it at twenty. We
can give you two tents, we can give you four fives.
We can give you a ten and two fives. We
can work with you. I went in one time and
(32:07):
got five dollars all in dimes. They will do that
for you. How do we make money? Volume, cha ching?
Speaker 5 (32:14):
Well, everything's final in Major League Baseball at Dodger Stadium,
LA six to one over the White Sox, who went
three for thirty at the plate. Yoshinoba Yamamoto got the wins,
seven innings, eight strikeouts, Arizona sent San Francisco to a
four straight loss eight deers.
Speaker 1 (32:28):
Wait, Steve, did that counts eight strikeouts? It was the
White Sox. Does that that? That's like four strikeouts against
anybody on Canada Day. I think we do need to
mention the exchange rate.
Speaker 5 (32:37):
I think a full strikeout is really only three.
Speaker 1 (32:40):
Fourths across the Lord when Kershawn needs three tomorrow to
get to three thousand. But it's the White Shocks. Does
that mean he's a strike out like seven? Yeah, five
or six? At least Steve doesn't get it, he has
to retire.
Speaker 5 (32:55):
Kansas City had lost eight of nine, but did win
at Seattle six to three. Houston held on five at Colorado.
The Rockies record now nineteen and sixty six. Texas and
Jacob de Grom beat Baltimore ten to two. The Cubs
and Matthew Boyd, who's eight and three, beat Cleveland five
to two. The Guardians have lost five in a row,
A's one in ten innings. Angels won, but Cincinnati at
(33:16):
Boston was suspended by rain after three innings. It'll continue tomorrow.
Rainouts at the Mets, at the Phillies at Washington doubleheaders
for all of them tomorrow. Pittsburgh won its fifth straight game,
Miami won its eighth in a row. Toronto beat the
Yankees on Canada Day twelve to five, as George Springer
had two homers seven RBIs, including a grand slam Coco
(33:37):
Goff lost their first round match at Wimbledon, as did
number three seed Jessica Pagoula. Men's number three Alexander Zverev
also lost. The American Pagoula had won the tune up
event just Saturday, sweeping Egos Fiantech in Germany. In the WNBA,
the Commissioner's Cup Final went to Indiana, even though Kaitlin
Clark is still out with a groin injury, seventy four
to fifty nine the final at Minnesota. The Milwaukee Bucks
(34:00):
are waving Damian Lillard to sign free agent center Miles
Turner and NBA MVP Shay Gilgess. Alexander agreed to a
four year Supermax extension where two hundred and eighty five
million dollars back to you.
Speaker 1 (34:13):
Thank you, Steve. The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Harmon coming up next, Hey, full appreciation moments
for two star athletes, one NBA star and one MLB pitcher.
Why I'll tell you next? Fox Sports Radio. Be sure
to catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show with
(34:34):
Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific,
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with My best friend,
Mike Harmon, you only do this once in a while.
Sometimes you want to tip a cap, nod the head.
(34:54):
And we have appreciation moments here on the show for
people and athletes and teams that do things like you
know what this The thing to know is that, hey,
this is a big deal and things are being done right.
And the first guy appreciation, the first thing appreciation moment
here is for the thunder Right. They sign SGA today
(35:14):
to a two hundred and eighty five million dollars Supermax deal. Now,
normally this is the death knell for contending teams because
then suddenly it's well, they were paying this guy the
the highest salary in the history of the league, right,
the guy MVP NBA Finals, MVP, the NBA Champion. It's
also the only time super Max is used as a
(35:35):
positive term. Yes, you think super Max. What do you
think supermax before? Zoh super Max? And I think is
that a new streaming service is like that, the new
HBO Max. I think of prisons Superman, that's where you've
exiled the worst of the worst, or in the Superman
Supermax for now, now you're suddenly in with a face
off with Castor Troy and uh yeah, okay, the supermax prison.
(35:57):
But this normally is where it gets really difficult for
a team to try to sustain winning because, hey, when
the big star gets paid, there's only so much money
with the salary cap. But for Oklahoma City, because of
the way they have built this team with, yes, they're
gonna wind up losing a couple of people along the way. Right,
are they gonna keep Williams? They're gonna keep Chet? Is
(36:18):
it gonna keep lou Dort long term?
Speaker 4 (36:19):
Right?
Speaker 1 (36:19):
Can they keep Alex Caruso again? If they want to hear,
they're gonna lose some guys. But they have the money.
You look at the money they have to spend, and
they have the first round draft picks where they can
sustain winning for much lowis why we talked about, Hey,
this is not just a one moment top of the mountain, like.
They can sustain winning for a long time because they
are well positioned because they're not paying a lot of people.
(36:42):
There's no bad contracts there. Yes, some guys you just kicks.
You can't keep everybody. But when you can turn over
and say, okay, if we lose Chet Homegrin in a
couple of years, whatever, it is, Hey, we can package
three number one picks, move up and get a guy
we think is gonna be him. And then we got
a guy in his rookie contract and SGA is twenty
nine years old and still in his prime, like for
able to do it, Like they've done everything right. And
(37:03):
this is like a model organization when it comes to
this is how we build for sustained sex. But that's
the point, right, is that you need that organizational stability.
They know how as it transitions to this new era
of the second April and all these different rules as
to how you have to operate and construct a squad.
Having positioned themselves with seemingly an endless supply of first
(37:28):
round picks, you're always able to do a slow, slow reset,
you know, shuffle a couple of those off like rocks
at the yard. At shakshak. He's like, yeah, all right,
we brought in somebody else to replace that guy that
escaped Shake Gildess. Alexander, with this deal, also now has
the highest average annual value contract at seventy one point
(37:50):
twenty five million, besting Sho Hee Otani had seventy million dollars,
and ahead of Jason Tatum sixty two million. He seems
like a slacker now. Now the other appreciation moment here
because again we talked about them throughout the NBA Finals.
This is a model organization with how to build sustained success.
They did it tonight. Jacob deGrom won his fifth consecutive start.
(38:15):
He has now had fourteen straight starts with at least
five innings and allowing two runs or fewer. That's the
longest streak in the majors. He is now nine and
two and an era getting down towards two two point
one point three. I mean maybe he and I are
were all on PhD weight loss together, you me and him,
because now he's getting down towards two hundred. This is
someone who I never would be healthy. I never thought
(38:37):
he'd be able to make twenty starts in a season.
Let let alone what word he's on pace to do
right now. And this is also to get into the
thick of the Cy Young race. Yes, he's got a
ways to go, because you have a couple of guys
in the American League that are absolutely fantastic. But for
him to be at this level when I never thought
he'd get healthy enough and you hold your breath and
you go out to pitch because you never know what
de Grom this is some kind of run after really
(38:58):
being away from baseball for so long, including the Rangers
and winning the World Series and de Gram not being
able to stay in and out of the lineup for
him being at this level, I mean, this is absolutely insane.
And the only thing that could derail this is he
could get trade at the deadline because he's owed a
lot of money and the Raid, Hey, you know, we
got to strike while the iron's hot. Maybe the Mets
try to trade for him and bring him back and say, hey, Jacob,
(39:20):
things are gonna work. We need pitchers. But that's the
only thing that gets in the way of this, because
he has been phenomenal. What's he needed one or two
more wins to match what he had as a total
to winning a Cy Young Award back in the day, right,
but seventeen starts. He hasn't had seventeen starts in a
season since twenty nineteen. Yeah, yeah, bets what we're talking
about in nine and two strikeout per inning pitched two
(39:43):
to one three er. I mean, he's just been crazy.
A nearly five strikeouts per walk pinpoint precision and just
surfict game through six innings against the Orioles. Last time
he was out like he has been degrominant. He has
been to grom again years after. Fun to see it, man,
Maybe he'll go back to the math. I'd love to
see that. Let's go do it. Let's do it. Go,
(40:05):
get to grop, Go, get to grav. He hates you,
go get it. No, I just think he was done
in New York. No, he doesn't like New York. No,
there's no and right now, there's no chance in hell
he's going back to New York. Now. Exit al Manta Fresca,
Exit Swollen Dome. Coming up next. Hey, we celebrate the
big holiday today. Holiday. He didn't know today was a holiday.
It was Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio
