Speaker 2 (00:21):
This is the best of the Jason Smith Show with
Mike Harmon on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (00:31):
Oh, let's go our number three of the show. Does
the Power Hour of the show. Aaron Torresoni span in
for the guys Night Jason Smith at his best friend
Mike Harmon right here on Fox Sports Radio. Best way
to get into the show, Aaron underscore, Torres, I'm instinking
(00:51):
genius one. Matter of fact, Torres, We've been getting a
lot of tweets tonight, But guess what people are not
tweeting about?
Speaker 4 (01:00):
The hot dogg any contest. I was just about to say,
the hot dog anty contest. Has it jumped the shark?
Speaker 3 (01:04):
Because I know you say you're not into it, but
you've never been into it. It kind of grosses you
out a little bit.
Speaker 4 (01:10):
I watched.
Speaker 3 (01:10):
I was particularly interested in this year because Joeyesut was
back after what I believe a two year absence, But
it kind of went off flawlessly. He won by twenty three,
twenty four, whatever it was. It was never a race.
It's the same thing every year, just shoving hot dogs
down your throat.
Speaker 4 (01:31):
I mean, nobody was getting sick or anything like that.
Speaker 3 (01:34):
But as it jumped the shark, do they have to
kind of add something else, like I.
Speaker 4 (01:39):
Lower them out? They got pitchclock, we gotta.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
Do something like after the ten minutes of hot dogs,
an extra five minutes bonus of Parogi's or something.
Speaker 5 (01:48):
You gotta do a hundred yard sprint and you gotta
hold it down. Hey, let me ask you a question,
because remember what was it about? Probably a decade ago,
the Yukon women were just destroying everyone, and it became like,
is Yukon Are the Yukon women actually bad for women's basketball?
Is Joey chest Out actually bad for the hot dog
eating catch?
Speaker 4 (02:08):
No? No, no, no.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
He's the only name that everybody knows though he's the
he's the big name and the only name that's what
people want to see. And I wonder what the TV
ratings are when he wasn't there the last couple of
years compared to this year.
Speaker 4 (02:21):
That he was there. I bet you it was night
and day between the two. Yeah, it's like the opposite.
Speaker 5 (02:24):
It's like, you know, people say, oh, I hate dynasties,
but then you know, you see the ratings for a
Lebron Steph finals versus a OKC Indie Finals. All right,
now here's the next question. I mean, Joey Chestnut clearly
is superior to all humans. Yes, does this come to
like remember when like Tyreek Hill Race Ta Cheetah, do
we have to get like a black bear or something?
(02:47):
Is Joey Chestnut have to compete against wildlife?
Speaker 3 (02:49):
I know, I don't know what he has to do next,
but I do have to say this. Okay, how do
I put this? He's not very charismatic. I think if
he was better in front of the camera, and you know,
and of course he does a lot of interviews, but
I think if he showed more of a personality, he'd
be more of an icon, more of a name, more sponsors.
Speaker 4 (03:12):
I'd believe it opened up more doors for him. Am
I wrong on that? Or or am I just looking
too deep into this thing, or he's.
Speaker 5 (03:18):
All about the game man. He doesn't want all the
extra stuff. But he just doesn't know.
Speaker 3 (03:22):
But he doesn't really He's okay on the interviews. He's
just not very charismatic in my opinion.
Speaker 5 (03:28):
Yeah, I wouldn't describe miss charismatic either. I mean, I'll
actually uh shait, I'm not gonna put you on the spot.
But Cavino and Rich had had him on a few
weeks ago, right, I mean, was he a good interview?
Speaker 4 (03:38):
He goes on a lot interview.
Speaker 5 (03:43):
That's the that's the that is the next year's thing.
Coveno and Rich versus Joey Chestnut. Oh, there you go,
the two of them against the one.
Speaker 4 (03:53):
That's what I'm saying Fox Sports.
Speaker 5 (03:56):
No, I think there's something too, not very charismatic. He's
also like the only guy that you know.
Speaker 4 (04:03):
Like it was.
Speaker 5 (04:04):
It was more interesting when Kobyashi used to be hot
and you knew both.
Speaker 4 (04:10):
Like a Caitlin Clark there you go.
Speaker 6 (04:15):
Yeah, it's not as fun when there's not the born
in your side.
Speaker 5 (04:22):
So no, I think I I think it's an interesting thing.
I mean, listen, he is obviously a superstar. He's he's
obviously the greatest to ever do it. I I just
I just don't watch because I just think it's gross company.
Speaker 3 (04:35):
People were there though there's still get good crowds, though
still still packed over there.
Speaker 4 (04:39):
A lot of people still go to it, you know.
Speaker 5 (04:40):
I will say for some reason, I think I must
have probably been working last July fourth, so that's probably why.
But I remember I must have tuned in last year
when he wasn't in it, because I do remember either
the attendance was down or it just felt like the
vibe was off or something. I can't remember. I feel
(05:01):
like I was filling in with Dan Biden.
Speaker 4 (05:04):
We we were doing a show.
Speaker 7 (05:05):
It was me and you.
Speaker 4 (05:06):
We were filling in for Cavino and Rich.
Speaker 6 (05:08):
Yeah, it was during during the actual Yeah, watching it
and all that.
Speaker 3 (05:13):
I don't know who the commentator was. But and I
hope people will get mad at me for saying this.
Speaker 4 (05:19):
I think they need Stephen A. Smith as the commentator.
I mean, does everything.
Speaker 2 (05:22):
I know.
Speaker 4 (05:22):
I know people are burnt out on it, but I
think they need Steven Ay out there. You know, let
me tell you why Joe Chestnut, let.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
Me tell you why he's the greatest. Look at him
go now, you know, why that's aboud Steve to Day,
that's a bad.
Speaker 4 (05:36):
You think Steven A does a good army spaniard.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
No, I don't think he knows who I am, so,
but I I think I think it'd be pretty funny.
Speaker 4 (05:44):
You know, he was in Law and Order. I don't
know if you saw that one.
Speaker 5 (05:46):
I just assassin Joe Chess or Steven Day Steve, I know,
and he ended up dying.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
They killed him, Yeah, yeah, they killed him in the
in the episode, so it was it was a pretty
good So he did a good job there.
Speaker 4 (06:02):
All right, we do have a lot to get to
this hour.
Speaker 3 (06:03):
Like I said, if you want to jump in, erin
on the score Torres, I'm mistake a genius wanted.
Speaker 4 (06:07):
If you want to comment on the Nathan's Outdog contest,
do you still watch it? Are you still intrigued?
Speaker 3 (06:13):
If you weren't intrigued this year with Joey just not
coming back, then it's then you're never gonna be intrigued again,
and then you're gonna say forget about it unless they
do something different.
Speaker 4 (06:21):
Maybe they do something new. I don't know. Maybe there's
mixed doubles, you know what I mean, Guys and girls,
I and add them up.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
I gotta do something, Eric, you gotta gotta go ahead
and get the people to continue watching. So if you
want to come in on that, go ahead and get
hold of us through Twitter. I want to talk about
what Paul George said when he was talking about Michael Jordan.
Speaker 4 (06:41):
You know, Michael Jordan's now gonna be working for NBC.
Speaker 3 (06:43):
He's gonna be a part of the pregame, and he said,
Michael Jordan on NBC will drive interest for the NBA.
Do people still care what Michael says? And is he
gonna be intriguing enough? Is he gonna spill the is
he gonna give us the gossip?
Speaker 4 (07:02):
Is he gonna tell us how he really feels or
is he gonna hold back a little bit? Because I
felt that was Tom Brady's downfall a little bit, that
he didn't give us the really juicy stuff that we
needed out there. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (07:15):
No, I think it's a million dollar question. I think
the I think the biggest question is what is he
actually doing? Is he on a desk, is he in
the studio? Is he only doing interviews? Obviously, I don't
think any of us think he's calling games. So I
just think that becomes the question. And then I think,
you know, if he is in some sort of role
where he's giving opinions, is he gonna be honest? You know,
(07:37):
is he gonna is he going to share how he
really feels? Because like you know, we talk about like
inside the NBA, and why do people like inside the
It's because whether you agree with those guys or disagree,
they're brutally honest and they're not afraid to say how
they really feel.
Speaker 4 (07:53):
And so I think that to me, it's really a
two pronged thing of what what is he doing?
Speaker 5 (08:01):
And then again, if he's in an opinion role, is
he actually going to say stuff that's interesting or is
he going to be cookie cutter, maybe a little bit
blayd like Tom Brady.
Speaker 4 (08:09):
That wasn't the first.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
Question I thought of when you said, here are a
couple questions I want. The question I want to know
is why he has all the money in the world,
seems to be happy, you know, running every business. He's
got a gazillion of them. You know that, And I
know that, Aaron, Why why now? And why this job?
They can't be paid him nearly much for his time
(08:32):
that it's worth. You know that and I know that,
So why now and why come out and do this?
That's what I want to know. No, that's that's the
interesting part.
Speaker 2 (08:42):
You know.
Speaker 5 (08:42):
I heard some stuff, you know, because like everything is
you know, like if you remember the last dance. He
approved the last dance shortly after Lebron won that championship
in Cleveland, and there was thought of like, oh, he
kind of wanted to remind everybody of his legacy and
how he was right, and there was I saw something about,
you know, he did this so that something with Lebron
(09:04):
because Lebron will probably get in the media after he retires.
Speaker 4 (09:07):
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (09:07):
The only point I'm trying to make is that is
actually probably the best question.
Speaker 4 (09:12):
And I was actually thinking about that as well. We
can't be the money, right the throw the money out
the window. It can't be because of the money. Let
me ask you a dumb question.
Speaker 5 (09:19):
Do you think it has anything to do with and
he is working for NBC, like just that they have
obviously like they have ties to his era and it
kind of fits like I don't know that. I I
don't I mean, I don't know that I would see
him making sense on ESPN or TNT when they had
the channel, certainly not Amazon.
Speaker 4 (09:40):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (09:41):
It's the only thing I could think of. Is he
putting together a TV show? And NBC said, if you
watch our back will wash yours.
Speaker 4 (09:49):
I mean, that's the thing you think.
Speaker 3 (09:51):
I have no idea, you know, I who knows movie
TV show?
Speaker 4 (09:55):
You know Lebron's putting together stuff? Doesn't he has a
media company? He does? Yeah, he does.
Speaker 3 (10:00):
Actually they lost a bunch of money, though that's beside
the point. Who knows what he's working on?
Speaker 7 (10:06):
It?
Speaker 3 (10:06):
The only think I can come up with. It's not
the money. Erny silly doesn't mean. How much is he
getting paid?
Speaker 4 (10:11):
Do you think to do this pregame show for NBC?
Speaker 6 (10:15):
Let me ask you, how much do you think he's
getting paid? I mean, think about it.
Speaker 4 (10:18):
Ten million?
Speaker 5 (10:19):
I was gonna say, if Brady or if Romo's getting
paid twenty Yeah, I know, what's a game. Yeah, I
was gonna say, I know it's a different role, but
I would think Michael Jordan's getting paid at least ten
and then to your good twenty million even you know,
do you think it's worth it for NBC? Does he
bring enough cachet that it's worth investing that kind of money.
Speaker 3 (10:40):
Are you going to watch the pregame to see what
Michael's gonna say? Are you gonna say I'll just go
to Twitter. If he says anything crazy, I'll just pull
it off Twitter. Is he's still relevant enough or a?
Speaker 4 (10:50):
You know, look, he's still a big name in the NBA,
but is he still relevant enough if he's not playing
that people want to hear what he's got to say.
Speaker 5 (10:58):
To your point about why, maybe that is why? Because listen,
Arnie almost forty years old, man, which is crazy. I'm
of the last generation that actually remembers watching him, So
anyone under thirty five, so he basically the last great
year was ninety eight. Okay, so I guess what ninety
eight is now? What twenty seven years ago? So we're
(11:21):
talking about if you're not yeah, isn't that crazy? So like,
if you're under thirty five, you do not remember him?
And so how closer to twenty fifty than we are?
I saw that meme. I sent it to my wife.
She freaked out, and it is true. We're closer to
twenty fifty than we are to twenty twenty two, two thousand,
and I mean, but yeah, I know I mean, I
(11:42):
think that might be hit is like there is and
it's cliche, but it's true, Like there's a whole generation
of kids that are just like oh Jordan, the shoe
guy the night the sneaker guy. And I do wonder
if that's part of it. Is he's like wait a
second now, like y'all don't know who I am, what
I'm about, da da dah this and that you know.
Speaker 4 (12:02):
You know have gotten that bad though? Wait wait, wait,
you don't know who I am and what I'm about.
There is YouTube, there is the Internet. There there are
highlights and something.
Speaker 6 (12:12):
And here's the other question to it, is that gonna change?
Speaker 5 (12:15):
Like if you're sixteen years old and you never saw
him play, like you know, like like as an example,
like I'm a little young to really remember Kareem, but
when I saw him on TV, that didn't immediately make
me like want to go find Kareem highlights?
Speaker 4 (12:32):
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (12:32):
So, but I mean, did you definitely have to be
in front of the TV when Belichick was gonna talk
or when he did the Manning cast? Do you were
you in front of the TV when Brady was first
doing the games? I got I got to hear what
he's got to say and who he's going to criticize.
And are those two guys, I mean, they're not as
big as MJ though, right, A little bit difference there.
Speaker 5 (12:53):
I think Brady, you know that first it was a
Cleveland and the Cowboys, I believe was his first game
last year, and I I think there was an intrigue
of tuning in. I know he had done exhibition games,
but come on, but yeah, no.
Speaker 3 (13:06):
I I I but there's a difference between doing games
and doing a pre range show where they can just
ask you questions and you have to give your opinion,
and you.
Speaker 4 (13:15):
Know, like, hey, you know.
Speaker 3 (13:17):
This team didn't look good in game two. What do
you think, Michael? What happened in game number two? Or
something like that?
Speaker 5 (13:23):
You know, you know, I actually think has turned into
the best Like legend turn turned analyst is Nick Saban.
I don't know if you've ever heard him on game day,
but he's I've heard.
Speaker 3 (13:31):
A little of Yeah, yeah, I hear a little bit
of him, but you know, but he's very candid, that's
for sure.
Speaker 4 (13:36):
He is candid.
Speaker 5 (13:37):
But yeah, so I can't I don't know, I'm curious,
you know, and at some point I would assume, and
I know he's Michael Jordan, so he kind of calls
the shots, but I would assume he's going to have
some sort of media availability about it.
Speaker 3 (13:48):
It's for the young generation though, you know what I mean,
That's what these pregame shows are for, right, It is
for the young generation. It's it's for like kids, what's
twenty to thirty years old?
Speaker 6 (13:57):
Is he who watches pregame shows? I mean, I don't know.
Speaker 5 (14:00):
I'm told the younger generations don't even watch games, they
just watch highlights, so I don't know if they're watching
the pregame show. But it is interesting, you know. I'll
say this is I can't speak to anybody else. I'll
probably watch the first one to see what it's about.
But I'm not gonna lie like if it's you know,
January ninth. And I think the other thing too, is
I don't know what days NBC is gonna have games.
(14:23):
I think I think they're gonna have games on Sunday nights.
Speaker 4 (14:25):
It's gotta be a big game too.
Speaker 3 (14:27):
It can't be well, you know here we are in
Charlotte or you know, something like that. It's got to
be like the Lakers or Oklahoma City or the Knicks
or something like that.
Speaker 5 (14:36):
Yes, so it looks like NBC will carry Tuesday night
double headers, which is interesting in its own right.
Speaker 3 (14:45):
And he's gonna fly Tuesday to the studio every every time.
Speaker 4 (14:49):
I don't know, is he gonna do it? You know?
Do it? You think you think.
Speaker 5 (14:53):
Steve Kirk can get him on the show for US?
I mean, I booked one guest, you got to get
the next one. So let's see.
Speaker 4 (14:58):
People will get curR on the line to meet.
Speaker 5 (15:00):
Peacock will air games on Monday nights, and then NBC
and Peacock will present national coverage on Tuesdays, and then,
starting in early twenty twenty six, as the regular season
enters the home stretch, NBC will also launch Sunday Night
Basketball across NBC and Peacock. So yeah, that'll be obviously
(15:21):
after the NFL with Sunday Night Football.
Speaker 3 (15:22):
So it'll be interesting to see exactly, you know, how
he's gonna do it, if he's gonna fly, And I
would die to find out how much that contract's worth,
you know.
Speaker 4 (15:31):
Oh, I know?
Speaker 5 (15:32):
And so really quick, do you have any theories on
why you think he chose to do this at this
point in his life.
Speaker 3 (15:37):
I'm really not sure why unless he wants to come
out and remind people how great he was. I'm really
not sure why he's doing it because it can't be
because of the money. It really can't be because he's
going to enjoy the job. I bet he gets bored
with it real quick.
Speaker 4 (15:52):
You know good, I mean magically did it for a
few years.
Speaker 3 (15:55):
Right, you think he's gonna say a thing good and juicy,
or he'll hold back a little bit.
Speaker 4 (16:02):
Probably not. I don't want to offend anybody.
Speaker 5 (16:05):
Yeah, it's you know, and it's interesting, right, I mean
I think I think what'll be interesting too with him specifically,
Like part of what has I think added to the
mystique is that he's not readily availed, like you know,
It's like, I think that's something that's hurt Lebron publicly,
is that not only is he playing, but he you
(16:27):
get his opinion on everything. To the point that we
talked about earlier in the show. He's very active on
social media, and it's like you get Lebron fatigues sometimes.
And I think that's what's kind of added to the
MJ mystique is that it's been hard to try. You know,
you don't hear from him, you don't hear his opinions.
You know, it's kind of I think actually helped him
in a lot of ways because you know, you can't
(16:49):
accuse him of being the petty old guy that's just
jealous or whatever or you know what. Yeah, no, I'm serious,
Like I mean, because is that a criticism of like
Chuck and Shack and all the older players.
Speaker 3 (16:59):
You know, he's not gonna be like Barkley though, There's
no way he's gonna be that.
Speaker 4 (17:03):
He's not just gonna call everyone in San Antonio fat.
Speaker 3 (17:05):
I was just about to say, you think Michael Jordan's
gonna call the women in San Antonio fat or something.
Speaker 4 (17:10):
No, that's not happening.
Speaker 3 (17:12):
He If he does, boy, that's gonna really make news,
isn't it?
Speaker 4 (17:15):
Or what that would make news?
Speaker 5 (17:17):
Yes, I mean if Barkley did it, I will tell
you completely unrelated to anything.
Speaker 4 (17:20):
Final four this year was in San Antonio.
Speaker 5 (17:23):
There is a great, like six minute clip on YouTube
that just says Charles Barkley making fun of San Antonio women.
And I was watching it in the airport on the
way to San Antonio just die.
Speaker 4 (17:34):
Is it going to.
Speaker 3 (17:35):
Affect sales for Nike if he offends anybody Michael Jordan,
any part of the country and he's select fan base.
Speaker 4 (17:42):
Or anything like that, I would say I doubt it.
Speaker 3 (17:46):
Yeah, I doubt it unless he says something really, really
bad like Barkley. I don't think it's gonna be a problem.
You want to get in though, real simple, Aaron underscore tours.
I'm it's stinking genius one. I want to come back.
I want to get to some football. Did you hear
what Jamar Chase has to say? I want to tell
you about home field. This is such a home field
advantage anymore. All that coming up next, Aaron and Arnie

in for the guys tonight, Jason Smith and his best Fred,
Mike Harmon Hope everybody enjoying the fourth of July out
there during your three day weekend.
Speaker 4 (19:08):
Aaron, I wanted to get to this topic.
Speaker 3 (19:10):
I saw an article written by Greg Hman, He's an
NFL reporter. It was a couple of days ago. I
thought it was a very interesting, good article, and it
was titled what has happened to the home field advantage
in the NFL? In the twenty twenty four regular season,
home teams won fifty three point three percent of the time,
(19:30):
which basically equates to a nine and eight record over
an entire season. By the way, as a success rate
that didn't even put you in the playoffs. Last year,
he said, the middling success continues a recent a trend.
Twenty twenty four was the fourth time in six years
that NFL home teams won fifty three percent of the
(19:53):
time or less. There were only four such seasons the
previous fifty covering the entire Super Bowl error. So one
more time in twenty twenty four was the fourth time
in six years that home team's won fifty three percent
of the time or less in the previous season. It's
(20:15):
only happened four times in fifty years. I found that remarkable.
What has happened to the home field advantage? Has it
just been a bad streak? Or what's going on here?
Has the regular fans been priced out and it's only
the rich fans that sit on their ass that go
(20:36):
to the games, like at the Cowboy games?
Speaker 4 (20:38):
What's going on here? Tares?
Speaker 5 (20:41):
It's a great question, and I feel like this is
the worst hour of radio I've ever done because I
don't have the answers to your actual game.
Speaker 4 (20:49):
It's the same with Michael Jordan.
Speaker 5 (20:50):
I actually, you know, I saw this topic, you sent
it to me throughout the day, and I obviously thought
about it. I don't have a good answer, though, I mean,
do you have any thoughts on as to why that
might be the.
Speaker 4 (21:00):
Case that was one of them.
Speaker 3 (21:02):
I think they're becoming very expensive, and there is a
big difference between the hoiity toity crowd the ones that
have a lot of money that go to the games
just to be seen, like going to a Laker game.
Speaker 4 (21:14):
How would you think it takes to cost to go
to a Laker game? A lot of money? But we're
we're talking about the NFL.
Speaker 3 (21:21):
You want to get four good seats a lot of
the you know, it's expensive. And besides, I believe that
a lot of the regular fans prefer to either go
to a sports bar or stay at home where everybody
has phenomenal TVs. Now fifty inch, eighty inch, one hundred
inch TVs that are high depf you actually get a
(21:41):
better view and a better picture and you don't get
to miss any of the other games. I believe that's
part of it, you know what I mean that that's
one of the reasons out there.
Speaker 4 (21:52):
But other than that, But.
Speaker 5 (21:53):
Real quick though on that, you say, oh, well, the
viewing experiences home is better, but they're stadiums are still
full though, Like it's not like you know, cause I
think in other sports, I know, like this is something
that I'm sure you and Chris Plank have talked about.
Is like in college football, like people just don't go
to games anymore. Like they'll still go to the big ones,
but it's like Alabama's had trouble selling out the ul
(22:17):
Monroe game or whoever, you know, because fans are just
like it's better at home. I don't want to watch
this lousy product. But I don't feel like that's the
case in the NFL. I still think people are showing
up outside of the fact that the viewing experience is
still very good at home.
Speaker 4 (22:32):
Then why don't they make a difference? And that's the question.
Speaker 3 (22:35):
Why does home field not make as much of a
difference as it used to be? And I'm maybe the
listeners know Aaron Underscorts ares, I'm it's thinking genius one.
Are they not as ratty? Are they not as boisterous?
I don't believe that to be the case now. I
think they're just as crazy as ever when they get
(22:55):
on the opposing team.
Speaker 6 (22:56):
The only thing I can think of really quick, I know,
we want to get this cigarette.
Speaker 4 (22:58):
That's okay.
Speaker 5 (23:01):
I wonder how much of a factor all these quarterback
injuries have had. I mean, I guess quarterbacks always get hurt,
but it does, doesn't it feel like the last couple
of years, like there have been a disproportional number of
big name quarterbacks. So now all of a sudden, No,
you don't think so, because man, I'm just thinking out
loud here.
Speaker 3 (23:15):
It's like we're going through like a fifty four year period,
so I have to think that has to even out
in the end, right, Yeah, I mean that.
Speaker 4 (23:23):
That's a lot of years.
Speaker 3 (23:25):
Only four times in the previous fifty years, and now
it's happened four times in the last six years where
they've won only fifty three percent or less, And you
would think that it would be that home field is
more nastier than ever with the way the crowds get
into it. And look, I've been look at the Raiders
where they dressed up in the end zone, and same
(23:45):
thing with the with the Browns. I'm not sure why
it's gotten to this point. I'm not sure why home field.
Is it just an exception. It's been a rough six years.
I I it's it's a tough and I asked I'm
lasting the listeners. I think they're just as dumbfounded as
we are. Why home field is not as big of
(24:07):
a deal as it is like in the NBA or
something like that. It's an interesting thing.
Speaker 5 (24:11):
And like you said, because it's a four or five
six year period that we're talking about, I can't think
of anything good off the top of my head. Yeah,
you know, like like I said, cause it's it's not
just I understand the argument that, like again, the viewing
experience is home is better. But right, every time I
turn on a game, it's not like there's like huge
swaths of un you know, used seats or whatever.
Speaker 4 (24:33):
So I don't know.
Speaker 6 (24:35):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (24:36):
Maybe the young people don't go anymore, and that's when
things become give you that home field advantage, when the
young people are screaming and getting crazy and stuff like that.
I it's a tough call.
Speaker 4 (24:46):
I'm not sure why.
Speaker 3 (24:49):
Maybe it's easier for teams to get on the get
on the road and they have you know, chartered flights
or something, and it's easy to pull off the upset.
Speaker 5 (24:58):
I don't know, man. And it's weird because how many
years was it? You said, For the last six.
Speaker 3 (25:04):
For the last six years, the home teams won fifty
three percent or less.
Speaker 5 (25:08):
And that's that's the part that's confusing. If it was
a one year trend, you could say whatever. But if
it's four out of the last six, yeah, I don't
get it.
Speaker 3 (25:17):
Arnie, Well, we'll come back. I want to tell you
what Jamar Chase actually had to say. But I bet
you the Sagar's got the answer. He'll tell us why
it's going on. Let's see what's drending.
Speaker 7 (25:25):
No, I'm the Aeron tourist lead. I have absolutely no idea. Well,
not everything is finally major League Baseball on this July
the fourth, But there is a game in Sacramento. You
know there's major League Baseball in Sacramento these days. A's
eleven to one over the Giants in the bottom of
the eighth inning. That's the last game going Kansas City.
A nine to three winner at Arizona. Vinnie Pascuentino, two homers,
(25:49):
six RBIs for the Dodgers. Well, LA's biggest blowout loss
ever at Dodger Stadium tonight. It came to a point
where they just left the pitcher in Who cares if
he gives up ten runs in an inning? And Noah
Davis did give up ten runs in an inning the sixth,
so Houston eighteen to one. The final over the Dodgers.
Lance McCullers junior got the win. He entered with an
(26:12):
ERA of over six and a half, pitched six quality
innings Tonight. Road wins for Baltimore and the White Sox.
Road wins for Milwaukee and Detroit, which won two to
one at Cleveland. Guardians have lost eighth straight. Toronto won
on a throwing air in the tenth, four to three
over the Angels. The Blue Jays have won six in
a row. They're first in their division, ahead of the
Yankees and Rays. Yankees lost their fifth straight, lost six
(26:34):
to five at the Mets. The Mets are getting close
to the lead again in the NL East, just a
half game behind the first place Phillies. Philadelphia lost at
home today nine to six to Cincinnati. The losing pitcher
was Jesu's Losardo two plus innings seven and four the record.
Minnesota beat Tampa Bay four to three on a solo
homer bottom of the ninth. Boston started the day with
an eleven two win at Washington. The victory to Lucasciolito.
(26:57):
The Cubs hit eight home runs. That's a free franchise
record for a franchise that has been around since the
eighteen hundreds. The Cubs at Wrigley eleven to three over
the rival Carlie That is unbelievable because it's Wrigley Field. Also,
that's their home stadium.
Speaker 3 (27:12):
I'm sure Dave Kingman playing today, what apps.
Speaker 7 (27:15):
Shocked that this hasn't happened before. Michael Bush was playing
the role of Dave Kingman. He hit three, He went
four for four.
Speaker 4 (27:22):
What do you think of Kingman's five RBIs?
Speaker 7 (27:24):
Do not ask Tommy Lissorda what he thought of Kingman's performance.
Seattle's cow Rawley hit two more homers. Mariners six nothing
over Pittsburgh. Raleigh with thirty five homers this year and
seventy four RBIs. By the way, the Yankees Aaron Judge
hit his thirty second home run of the season in
that loss at the Mets. The WNBA is off. Caitlin
Clark will miss a fifth straight game Saturday with groin injury.
(27:47):
She still hasn't gone full speed in practice.
Speaker 4 (27:49):
Back to you, all right, thank you very much, Steve.
Speaker 3 (27:52):
The sega you want to get in Aaron Aaron Torres,
Arnie Spaniels will say, Aaron Spaniard, that would have been good.
Speaker 5 (27:58):
You can relations let the record show.
Speaker 3 (28:03):
Aaron underscore Torres, I'm astinking genius one.
Speaker 4 (28:07):
If you want to get a hold of us.
Speaker 3 (28:09):
Jamar Chase reportedly, we have to say, reportedly said that
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes without Travis Kelcey was the same
as Kirk Cousins with a headband.
Speaker 4 (28:22):
Do you believe that that's a real quote?
Speaker 1 (28:24):
Arnie?
Speaker 4 (28:25):
Oh yeah, oh you do. Yeah, even if I didn't,
I hope it's real. I love that stuff. I eat
that stuff up. But yes, I do believe that.
Speaker 3 (28:34):
Now, maybe he was kidding around, or you know, maybe
he was trying to you know, stick at to Kansas City.
But I do believe it was real. I certainly do.
Why you you think it was misquoted or what?
Speaker 4 (28:45):
Well you sent it to me?
Speaker 5 (28:47):
I said that at this point, Travis Kelcey is fatter
than you and I so, I mean, that's that's a
little mean, That's probably not true.
Speaker 4 (28:56):
It just feels like a made up quote.
Speaker 3 (28:57):
It's from It's a real website though, right, I mean
a real Twitter account.
Speaker 4 (29:01):
Excoose me.
Speaker 3 (29:01):
Well, it's NFL rumors us and they're a real account.
Speaker 6 (29:05):
Three hundred and seventy four thousand.
Speaker 4 (29:07):
There you go.
Speaker 3 (29:08):
It's not like that NBA got No, it's not a centel.
Speaker 4 (29:13):
I fall for the bogus ones all the time, but
this one's a real.
Speaker 6 (29:16):
One, right, not that I can find. But you know whatever,
I did.
Speaker 5 (29:20):
Let me ask you this though, for real, since I
don't think it's a real quote, but what do you
actually expect from the Chiefs, because I it's so funny
with them from the perspective of, like, we all watched
the game, forget the super Bowl, but we all watch
the games, we all know how lucky they are, and
we all default to like, at some point they have
(29:43):
to lose some of these coin flip games. But then
there's the opposite of what are they six years into
the Mahomes era and they never lose those games in
the regular season.
Speaker 4 (29:53):
So I saw one of those TV.
Speaker 3 (29:55):
Guys saying, I forget which one it was, saying that
the Kansas City Chiefs drought is starting now that they
may go a while without another Super Bowl. I mean,
obviously the division's real hard. Forget about the Raiders. I
think Denver's going to be new and improved. They won
ten games last year, so you know, if they're better,
(30:17):
then you're looking at twelve games. Chargers out eleven wins,
but the Chiefs had fifteen. Is Travis Kelce he going
to come back strong or is he going to be
a guy that looks like he has one year to
go and he's on.
Speaker 4 (30:29):
His last leg.
Speaker 3 (30:31):
Remember the Chiefs pulled off a lot of games, I
mean a lot of one score games.
Speaker 4 (30:35):
When's that eventually going to catch up to that? That's
what I mean.
Speaker 5 (30:38):
Yeah, But then the counter to that is we've been
saying that for three years and they just always win
those games. We said it all last year. I mean
they get week one, Week two, Week three. I mean
it's good and it just never caught up with them.
You know, well, I think I told you this last
time we were filling it. I don't think it's going
to be an exciting year for divisional races.
Speaker 4 (30:56):
Six of the eight divisions already been decided. I don't
know if you know that.
Speaker 6 (31:00):
Of the eight you said, yeah, So which to heaven
is the AFC East af.
Speaker 4 (31:05):
The AFC AFC is already done Buffalo, Baltimore, the Texans
and Kansas City.
Speaker 3 (31:10):
That's all done. They've already won their divisions. Right the
NFC East, we know it's Philadelphia. Yes, I mean, Washington
could put up a little bit of a fire, but
we know it's going to be Philadelphia. And in the North,
we we know it's going to be Detroit. So that
really just leaves the South and the West for us
to figure out. Is the West going to be the Rams?
(31:31):
The forty nine ers are gonna prop back up, and
I don't expect much from the Seahawks. Maybe Arizona makes
a little bit of a run. The South wide open,
you tell me where you want to go there. Those
are the only two divisions that haven't been decided.
Speaker 5 (31:43):
So, but you were just talking about the Chiefs potentially
finally losing some one score games.
Speaker 3 (31:48):
Yeah, yeah, they they they had they what did they
win like ten of them last year.
Speaker 4 (31:54):
I think overall? Yeah, ten or eleven.
Speaker 5 (31:56):
By the way, Paul Bill's Mafius' Arnie is just like Anchorman,
just will read anything that comes across the prompter.
Speaker 4 (32:02):
So I am pretty much like that. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (32:04):
A lot of people talking about the.
Speaker 4 (32:07):
Stat we gave on home field.
Speaker 3 (32:09):
Yeah, Colin said, is the fifty three percent due to
less hardcore fans going to the games, or because bigger
stadiums mean more tickets being bought by the opposing teams fans,
which eliminates the home field advantage.
Speaker 4 (32:23):
Are there any those are good points too. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (32:26):
I think the non die hard fan thing is relevant.
Speaker 5 (32:30):
I mean, stadium size doesn't feel like it's changed all
that much from you know, forty to fifty years ago.
It's not that they were playing in eight thousand seat stadiums.
Now they're playing in seventy thousand seats stadiums.
Speaker 3 (32:40):
You know, that is true. That is true about that.
Tiger says, Football is the one sport weren't away team
isn't challenged by the playing surface. Basketball is the shooter spot.
Baseball is a different field dimension. Hockey is getting screamed
up by the drunk fans six inches from your face. Yeah,
but it was different, Like we said, though it's only
(33:01):
happened four times in fifty years, now four times the
last six years.
Speaker 4 (33:07):
Explain that.
Speaker 5 (33:08):
That's the part that's confusing it. Like I said, if
it was a one off thing, you could explain it.
But it is clearly a trend that is officially a thing.
But I can't figure out why that thing is a
thing the way that it is.
Speaker 3 (33:19):
And by the way, CP three says, I don't think
Michael Jordan is going to hold back in his criticism. Wow,
Chris Pauling, And that's cool. Well, that that's what they're
paying for, right, Aaron. They they want the job stuff.
Speaker 5 (33:31):
I don't know what they're paying for. That's the interesting part.
What are they paying for.
Speaker 4 (33:34):
Or not paying for? His good looks? They want the
good stuff, you know.
Speaker 3 (33:38):
They want the gossip, they want the storytelling, they want the.
Speaker 5 (33:42):
Well, maybe we'll start telling me to gossip. I mean,
those are two completely different things.
Speaker 3 (33:48):
Well, gossip and stories we've never heard before from man,
when's the last time MJ told us a story that
we went wow, that is something like Charles Barkley, you know,
when's the last time we got something like that out
of him?
Speaker 4 (34:01):
Well?
Speaker 6 (34:01):
Never, because he never really talks public except for the
last Dance.
Speaker 4 (34:04):
Exactly, so exactly.
Speaker 3 (34:07):

of topics to get to. Let's check in with our
buddy Steve the Saga to see what's going on.
Speaker 4 (35:09):
What's going on to Sega?
Speaker 7 (35:10):
Hello again, guys, there is one thing we have not
covered yet tonight. It is July the fourth, and late
night July the fourth at that which means this is
the anniversary of one of the greatest National League games
of our lifetime.
Speaker 4 (35:24):
Mets Astros was that what it was?
Speaker 9 (35:25):
It was Mets at Atlanta.
Speaker 4 (35:27):
Oh, Atlanta.
Speaker 9 (35:28):
That's forever known as the Rick Camp game.
Speaker 7 (35:31):
And I remember it was Atlanta because all the Braves
games used to be on TBS. I as a young
guy in the summer, stayed up late to watch this
game on TBS, and I remember it distinctly because there
were a couple of rain delays. It was very late
at night. The Mets manager had been kicked out. The Mets,
of course, mid eighties, were a great team. They fell
(35:52):
behind Atlanta, giving up four runs bottom of the ninth.
Mets tied it up in the ninth. Anyway, Mets took
the lead in the thirteen, scoring two. They give up
two in the bottom of the thirteenth. It's still going.
We're past midnight, we're past one am. In Atlanta. Forty
five thousand people had bought tickets to this and there
were nowhere close to a fireworks show at the end
(36:14):
of this.
Speaker 9 (36:14):
Game yet, because the game is still going.
Speaker 7 (36:17):
The guy who's the Mets TV analyst now Keith and And
is hit for the cycle in that game.
Speaker 4 (36:22):
Didn't The Atlanta pitcher hit a home run in that game.
Speaker 7 (36:24):
The Atlanta pitcher had to beat because they were out
of hitters. They had fallen behind eleven to ten in
the eighth, but Trojan was one of the options instead.
Rick Camp game up. It is forever known as the
Rick Camp game. And the announcer for TBS, the guy
who wound up being the Yankees announcer for years, John Sterling.
(36:48):
Let's hear a bit of him.
Speaker 4 (36:49):
The whole met team waving their outfielders in. Here's Rick
Camp with a game on the line, two outs and
going on base again.
Speaker 7 (36:55):
The Mets waved the outfielders in because it's just the
pitcher coming up.
Speaker 9 (37:01):
They are out of people.
Speaker 4 (37:02):
Like Loups in right field for the bad news beairs.
Game will be certified as in the history of baseball.
Speaker 9 (37:09):
Oh, stay tuned, because it's not over.
Speaker 4 (37:10):
Yea, what are they done by? One?
Speaker 9 (37:13):
Yes? Two outs? Bottom of the eighteen research.
Speaker 3 (37:16):
That the.
Speaker 4 (37:21):
What's he batting'll be an two bitch? And he hasn't
the deig left hey goes back.
Speaker 3 (37:29):
It is gone, Holy Cole, Oh my goodness, what up
be late?
Speaker 4 (37:34):
Enlighten what Camp? Rick Champ?
Speaker 7 (37:39):
For the record is career batting average in a decade
with the Braves was seventy four, and he'd had almost
two hundred plate appearances. He had literally never hit a
home run in his major league career for his minor
league career, and to top it off, this was the
last year of his major league career, nineteen eighty five.
(38:03):
He ties the game, to say the least, way after midnight,
and so they go to a nineteenth inning. He takes
the mound and gives up five runs. The Mets take
the lead sixteen to eleven bottom of the nineteenth.
Speaker 9 (38:21):
This is after three in the morning.
Speaker 7 (38:24):
The Braves get a couple of runs, they put a
couple on. It's two outs bottom of the nineteenth and
whose turn is it to bat?
Speaker 9 (38:31):
This same reliever, Rick.
Speaker 7 (38:32):
Camp comes up a home run would tie the game again,
and he strikes.
Speaker 9 (38:37):
Out to end it. And at four in the morning
in Atlanta.
Speaker 7 (38:42):
They start the fireworks show and the surrounding neighborhood with
the explosions wakes up. People are calling nine to one
one they think the actual emergency. This was an astounding
night of baseball. It was a six hour plus game
plus more more than two hours of rain delay, fireworks
(39:02):
at four in the morning, and a sixteen thirteen Mets
win on this date, July fourth, slash July fifth, nineteen
eighty five in Atlanta.
Speaker 9 (39:14):
Just an amazing night.
Speaker 4 (39:15):
That is unbelievable. That is great.
Speaker 3 (39:18):
I think I flew from like Phoenix to Tucson and
the game was still.
Speaker 4 (39:21):
Going on, and when I landed it was crazy.
Speaker 7 (39:23):
It was that many hours. Well, we did have an
eighteen to one game in the National League tonight. Well,
an XNL team Houston got the win at Dodger Stadium
and the star was an XNL player, a guy that
used to be Arizona's first baseman. Christian Walker, very familiar
with LA's stadium, had four hits there tonight, four RBIs,
including a homer. In fact, he has homered in six
(39:46):
straight games he's played at Dodger Stadium.
Speaker 4 (39:49):
Wow.
Speaker 7 (39:50):
And since the start of twenty eighteen, Christian Walker has
homered there twenty times. That is eight more than any
other visitor at Dodger Stadium in that span. We mentioned
earlier the pitching problems with the injuries the Dodgers had,
so the starter tonight was Ben Casparius. He gave up
three homers in his three innings. In relief, Noah Davis
(40:11):
of LA allowed ten runs in the sixth Dodger infielder
Miguel Rojas pitched the top of the ninth. I saw
one of his pitches was forty miles an hour. Oh man,
we had a guy in our little league that could
pitch sixty.
Speaker 4 (40:23):
Seconds seventy now geez it.
Speaker 7 (40:26):
Was LA's biggest blowout loss ever at Dodger Stadium, which
opened in nineteen sixty two.
Speaker 4 (40:33):
Unbelievable. Love that story about the old Vets Atlanta game.
Oh I love that all right.
Speaker 3 (40:37):
Look, three hours are in the books, the power hours gone.
The Bonus Hour is coming up next. You want to
be part of the Bonus Hour?
Speaker 4 (40:47):
Real simple?
Speaker 3 (40:48):
Aaron Underscore Torres, I'm its thinking genius one. Aaron Torres,
Arnie Spani'er in for the guys, Jason Smith and Mike
Harmon here on Fox Sports Radio
