Thanks for all your support and I love putting this

from the NBA. You just heard Steve Seger tell you
through three quarters. Steph Curry's got thirty five nearing the

(01:11):
end of the third quarter, still a couple of minutes
to go. Luka Doncic with thirty eight for the Lakers.
They lead the Tea Wolves ninety nine to eighty eight.
We'll have more on these games coming up throughout the night,
but joining us now in the hot line for the
biggest story at all of sports the Lions bye week.
The World Series. Game one goes to the Blue Jays.

(01:33):
They knock Blake Snell out of a pitcher's duel and
turn it into a laugher. Eleven four is your final
fourteen hits for the Jays. Nine run bottom of the
sixth inning. Oh boy, how much trouble the Dodger's in
Joining us now in the hot line MLB Network insider extraordinaire.
He is on Twitter at John Morosi. It is the Pope,

(01:56):
John Paul Morosi. Pope. What's happening?

Speaker 3 (01:58):
Man?

Speaker 1 (01:58):
How are you?

Speaker 3 (01:59):
I'm doing great, friends, Good evening on the West coast,
good morning in the Eastern time zone. And I think,
my friends, we have got a World Series on our hands.

Speaker 1 (02:11):
You know, we talked about this a lot, because we
mentioned this going in. I know you and I mentioned it.
We mentioned it last week. The Dodgers were going to
get a bounce starting pitching wise, coming from the NLCS,
are not going to go We're not going to see
the performance like they just had again in the World Series.
Right didn't think it was going to be quite like
this for the Blue Jays. Dodgers starting pitching, and where

(02:31):
they sit right now going into Game two. Where are
you John.

Speaker 3 (02:34):
Paul Well, I'll say this, the reason the Dodgers lost
this game was not starting pitching. In my estimation, I
think it was obviously a two to two game. Midway through,
I will say this, the Jays ran up a high
pitch count on Blake Snell, which led to the bullpen,

(02:55):
which ultimately was the Dodgers downfall. The Dodgers also had
some sloppy moments on the basis both teams ran a
thousand the bases in the first half of the game.
But I do think when you consider the way the
Dodgers were playing early, they missed some chances when you
Savage was still trying to find his way, they missed
some chances that they typically cash in on to take

(03:16):
a bigger lead and put more stress on the Jays.
And then maybe at that point when Snell leaves the game,
it's a stronger part of the Dodger Pennant's coming in,
and then maybe the entire entire middle part of the
game and the ending that changed everything. Perhaps it unfolds
very very differently, but this is I'm describing right now

(03:37):
a Dodger team that offensively was a little bit off
in their execution. That happens when you take a week
off of games. That's a reality of the layoff that
they just had. But the other piece of this is
the Blue Jays have a really good team. And I
don't know why there was such surprise at the Jays
being competitive with the Dodgers. They batted basically three hundred

(04:00):
for the first two rounds of this postseason. They've got
a really good lineup, and the Dodgers, we know they've
got a great team to the reigning World Series champions.
But it doesn't surprise me that the Jays worked better
at bats against Snell than what the Dodgers had to
deal with against the Milwaukee Brewers and even against the

(04:21):
Phillies to an extent, the Jays put the ball in play.
They only struck out four times tonight. So there's a
lot to like about the way that the Jays are
setting up right now and today affirmed that the Jays
are at the very least a very very worthy opponent
for the Los Angeles Dodgers. And if the Dodgers don't
make their pitches, the Jays are going to sting them

(04:43):
in a way that just did not happen for the
Dodgers the first three rounds of this postseason.

Speaker 4 (04:48):
JP, all of that that you just said was great.
It requires that people watch the games and not just
count how much they spent on players, right.

Speaker 3 (04:59):
I mean again, I'm not saying this for a chief
shot at Jason, but the Mets had the Mets actually
had the highest payer roll baseball. They didn't make the playoffs,
so so there's there is no promise in this in
this sport. May I introduce all of you ladies and
gentlemen to baseball. There are no that it's always been

(05:22):
uh and and there are plenty of times you go
back to the history of the game. Arguably one of
the most beloved Dodger championships ever, eighty eight was a
series in which very few people gave them a chance
to be competitive, let alone win it, and and they
won the thing decidedly. So it's it's important to keep
that in mind that we can be surprised with baseball

(05:44):
and the greatest weakness of this Dodger team, which is
the middle part of the of the game, the gap
between the starters and then whether it sasaki or trying
are really dialed in and doing great. It's that game,
and teams that put the ball in play and move
the line work deep at bats have the best chance

(06:07):
to ring up a high pitch count on the starter
and get into that middle part of the bullpen. Now,
I didn't think they were going to score nine runs
in one inning, but this is the kind of thing
that can happen when you've got a very smart lineup,
which the Blue Jays have, against a starting staff that
really hasn't been challenging this quite in this way. The

(06:28):
Phillies obviously have a lot of name brand players. The
Phillies were not swinging the bat as well as the
Jays are swinging it right now, and the Jays are
still on the emotional high of just having beaten the
Mariners in a seven game series. Momentum in a postseason
is a very real thing, and right now it belongs
to the Toronto Blue Jays.

Speaker 4 (06:47):
Yeah, as we've talked about it, the much beligned bullpen,
but they're down one of their surest r right with
Vesia not being available. We were talking about that, Jason
and I with Steve Disager a bit earlier that you know,
six straight scoreless appearances for him, a guy you leaned
on almost seventy times this year. That's a big hole
to fill against a team that is as patient and

(07:09):
as persistent as this Blue Jays lineup.

Speaker 3 (07:11):
Well, you're really right, And for those that are maybe
just tuning in or don't know the full backstory, Alex
Vessi is away right now because of a very serious
family emergency, and it's not on the Dodger roster, and
he has been, Mike, to your point, one of their
most important relief pitchers for the entirety of this season

(07:32):
and especially of the playoffs. So this is a very
significant absence. Obviously, there are way more important things going
on than baseball for him and for his family, so
certainly our prayers are with them. But tonight I did
add that thought a couple of different moments in the game,
that they're missing one of their most important players right now,

(07:52):
and obviously they're trying to more than anything to support
him and pick them up. And I think Andrew Friedman
made the comment earlier today. I believe that they didn't
really even want to put Alex on the roster through
via a family emergency scenario where he could then be
added back on, because they just want to send the

(08:12):
message him and his family that listen, don't feel like
you have to rush back to get into this thing
in the middle of the series. Take the time be
with your family. As heartbreaking it as it is to
not be able to compete with his teammates. I think
it was the right sensitive decision for the Dodgers to make,
and certainly, from a pure baseball strategic standpoint, your heart

(08:34):
breaks for him on a human level, but certainly the
Dodgers missed one of their very best teammates and relievers.

Speaker 1 (08:42):
Here tonight, John Paul Moros the MLB Network Insider, where
us Jason Smith, Mike Carmon live from the Fox Sports
Radio studios. Okay, So, seeing what we saw in game one,
if I'm looking forward to game two, John Paul, complete
the sentence for me what I expect to see from
the Dodgers in Game two? Who is blank? Try to say?

(09:03):
Trying to digest what's going on here Game one eleven four.
What you expect to see from the Dodgers in Game
two is.

Speaker 3 (09:09):
What better at bats? Better at bats? And and that's
because first of all, that they're a better offense than
what they showed tonight. Uh And and to be honest,
they they did have three hits of menu scoring position.
They still scored four runs. Listen, four runs is often
plenty to win postseason games when you're pitching. Is really
on point, and I think that, to me is is

(09:31):
the big thing is that there's now I think a
little bit of an elevated sense of of of difficulty
on on Yamamoto's play tomorrow. Now, let's be clear, the
last time we saw Yamamoto pitch, he had a complete
game against the Brewers and basically allowed nothing after the
first batter of the game. I mean, he is special. Now,

(09:52):
I think he's facing a tougher lineup. I think he's
also facing a tougher environment. This this Toronto crowd, now,
their their confidence has never been higher than it is
right now. And they are they are, I think, arriving
tomorrow with confidence and believing that hey, could we actually
take it to nothing lead on the Dodgers, the Mighty Dodgers.

(10:12):
Now the I think on the ja side of things,
they've got a veteran starter and Kevin Gosman, who certainly
has a greater pedigree than what Trey Savage did in
You Savages start tonight, but he's also a bit more
of a known commodity for the Dodgers, and also in
some ways his repertoire matches up well with with what

(10:34):
they saw from the Savage, so they they should be
relatively attuned to what they're going to see from Gosman,
who not long ago was actually pitching in the National
League westn of San Francisco Giants. So there is the
known commodity. There's a lot of reasons as I look
at the series and look at the at bats and
the lineups and the veteran players, and certainly Otani got

(10:54):
going late with a home run. So there's there's things
in the way the Dodgers played tonight that tell me
that they're not that far off that maybe with one
game one loss, that they've now experienced the atmosphere in Toronto,
they're snap back into reality after having the week long layoff.
They should be themselves again should be and there's a

(11:16):
very high likelihood, in my opinion, the Dodgers go out
tomorrow win the game and even the series. That's that's
what you would expect to happen based on a lot
of the things that I just laid out there. And
yet tonight reminded us that baseball is unpredictable unless you're
my colleague Dan Pleisak, who called a home run grand
slam from Barger before the game. It's very hard to

(11:39):
predict this sport, and I think that's where a lot
of us are right now entering Game two.

Speaker 4 (11:44):
All Right, now, I have questions, and I should have
looked up at odds for Barbers hitting over. But I
mean that's the romanticism of this game, right, Bishett comes
back and giving them what he can physically, right, playing
a little second base, made a play, the good get
a base, right, So the first game back, so you
check that box and then you get the youngster, you know,

(12:06):
first at bat, grand slam swing. And we've been doing
all sorts of research tasks here JP, trying to put
it in perspective, much like we did with the Otani
game last week.

Speaker 3 (12:17):
Right, Well, I mean there's a lot on the Blue
Jays side to digest. But let's be clear about this.
What they did tonight, while historic, I would not describe
it as shocking. It's only shocking if you just if
this is the first game that you've seen the Blue
Jays playoff season, which is admittedly the case for some fan.

(12:41):
Let me introduce you. Let me introduce you to the
last series they played in which in Game three on
the road, they were down oh two, difficult circumstances against
a really good starting pitcher in George Kirby. They won
thirteen to four. The next night they won eight to two.
They scored twenty one runs in a span two games
against a team that is known for great pitching. And

(13:04):
then they went on and beat them four to three,
and they came back and beat him in Game seven.
They beat him in Game six, six to two. This
is again historic, first pinch at Grand Slam in history
of the World Series. From Barger, that's pretty remarkable. You
look at some of the other at bats. Ernie Klement
right now is batting four to thirty five in the postseason.
Vlad Duro Junior is batting four to forty seven in

(13:25):
the postseason, Barger, who with the home run is batting
three twenty four. These guys didn't just they didn't just
stumble out of a hockey rink and put on baseball
almus and they the bat. They have very recently been
a very strong offensive club, as I referenced, scoring twenty
one runs over two games against the Seattle Mariners. So

(13:49):
this is a very impressive historic night. It is not
from where I sit a surprising one as someone who
just covered them for seven games in the American leagu Championships.

Speaker 1 (13:59):
Here all right, now, lastly, John Paul, as everybody knows
you are our Lions whisperer. Your record this year and
picking Lions games is incredibly accurate. Look like a ninety
three percent picking Lions games. They have a bye this week,
so I'm going to ask you for a little freelance
pick Michigan and Michigan State tomorrow National Game. Half the

(14:23):
state that you live in is going to love you.
Half the state is gonna hate you. What do you think?

Speaker 3 (14:28):
Also true of my family, by the way we are
as they would describe a divided household in many ways,
my father a proud Michigan State alum. I'm gonna say this.

Speaker 1 (14:43):
I don't say my father hates me. You're gonna start
listing people, Yeah, my.

Speaker 3 (14:48):
Father, I've got I'll say this. I think that this
game is going to be closer than a lot of
people believe that it will. I've got this as a
Michigan thirty five Michigan State twenty four. I've got it

(15:09):
thirty five twenty four. Michigan State competitive, able to discore
some points. I realized offense has been a bit of
a struggle. They scored thirteen points and back to back
weekends against a couple quality teams there in UCLA and Indiana,
but they did. They did manage to score twenty seven
against Nebraska. So again, I've got thirty five twenty four.

(15:30):
Michigan State keeps it close, Michigan pulls away late and
gets a very needed conference win for the Michigan Wolverines.

Speaker 1 (15:39):
He is on Twitter at John Morosi, that is at
John Morosi, who has figured out the secret of life.
If half your family hates you, just make sure half
your family loves you. That's all you need.

Speaker 3 (15:48):
Now, that's all that's all you need. As they say,
I'm paraphrasing Earl Weaver. Here with your with your family,
just like your baseball team, keep the half that hates
you away from the half that's still decided. Right, yeah,
but you get the idea.

Speaker 1 (16:06):
No, no, no, I love that. That was a great one.
I love that one. Yeah, keep the half away from
the people at are sure he's on Twitter at John Morosi,
that is at John Morosi. Pope has always appreciated we'll
talk to you next week.

Speaker 3 (16:18):
I fuck you guys, love this time here. My friends
always enjoy conversations, Enjoy the World Series, and we'll talk to.

Speaker 4 (16:23):
You next week.

Speaker 1 (16:26):
See you, John Paul there go. Yeah. No, that was
the earl weaver. When he was asked about what's your
secret to being able to manage all these players, he
says the secret is to keep the half of the
team that hates you away from the half of the
team that's not sure about you, Like that's the big Sure.
Make sure they don't talk, and then you can be
a good manager.

Speaker 4 (16:43):
And now I'm sitting here, I got a ledger because
I'm like looking at all the folks in the studio,
I'm like undecided.

Speaker 1 (16:49):
Wow, Wow, Okay, I don't know. De Sager maybe ty
Shirt definitely not. Patrick loves everybody so yeah, okay, you're
like at fifty percent.

Speaker 4 (17:00):
I'm bat on the five hundred game, okay, yeah, one
and one.

Speaker 1 (17:05):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, you're yeah, that's right. Like your start
of the season is okay, there's been some highs and
lows and okay, so you're one, one and one. Oh
you definitely don't like do you like harmon.

Speaker 1 (19:32):
Fox Sports Radio the Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon. So two big nights individually to talk. Well,
we got Wemby's night as well, but happening right now
Steph Curry thirty five for the Warriors. Not nearly gonna
be enough. The Blazers, who have had a bit of
a week, uh taking out all their Chauncey Billups frustrations

(19:57):
on the Warriors. They lead this one thirty to one
oh eight with four minutes to go in the fourth quarter. Again,
it's a big night for Steph Curry. He's got thirty five,
but uh gonna fall way short. The Blazers have like
eleven guys in double figures. Meanwhile, for the Lakers, Luka Doncic,

(20:19):
the Lakers are up one twenty one to one oh
one now midway through the fourth quarter. Luka Doncic with
twenty three points in the first quarter. He has forty
five right now to go along with ten rebounds and
eight assists as the Lakers are thumping the t Wolves
at home and for all concerns after Game one, look,

(20:41):
neither the Lakers nor the Warriors look good in Game
one of that. I mean like that was a game
where it's like, okay, it was Opening Night, but boy,
neither of those teams really filled you with, Hey, we
got great stuff coming up, Uh, Luca tonight. You know
we talked about a little bit last hour. This is
what I expected when I say a beginning of the
season without Lebron. You watch Luca will drag the Lakers

(21:01):
to victory, just like he did with the MAVs. Watch
the superhuman efforts skinny Luca puts out there, and tonight
clearly he is there to another bucket right now forty seven,
eleven and eight. The only downside of this, if you
don't have Amazon Prime, you're not watching this game because
that's where it is. You're not finding that. You're not
finding this game on cable. It's not on TNT, it's

(21:24):
not on ESPN, you can't. You can't find it anywhere else.
This is the new order in the NBA. We knew
there was gonna be changes coming off the last season.
People are finding out now the tough way of Oh,
this is what life is like when your sport goes
to streaming. Okay, not gonna get all those great games
all the time, got it?

Speaker 4 (21:43):
You gonna have to call around and figure out which
watering hole has it. Or maybe you go make a friend.
You bring a pie. Hey, let's watch some games together.
You got Amazon. I see those packages at your doorstep
all the time. Can I come in? I mean, come on,
make a friend.

Speaker 1 (21:56):
H Harmon's here again. You know the game is on.
He wants to watch. Just let him in, Just let
him in, let him sit out.

Speaker 4 (22:02):
He brought a sandwich.

Speaker 1 (22:04):
Yeah, but he didn't give me any of it. He's
eating it himself.

Speaker 4 (22:07):
No, no, no, here's a little slice of it. Look
for the Lakers. Exciting.

Speaker 1 (22:13):
But you I picture you bringing the sandwich in like
Homer when he was eating the sandwich and it went
bad and he just kept eating it even though it
was well.

Speaker 4 (22:20):
I mean, look, I'm not one for some costs when
it comes to my meals. It might be a little
bit green, you know what. You cut that piece off
and keep working a keep going. But yeah, they got
some balance. You got up to twenty three. Austin Reeves
had a huge third. He's up to twenty five on
the night eight and with fifteen and seven. But Luca's

(22:41):
so excitable if you missed it, and you might see
this video showing up in the in the socials, lebron
James actually got out of his seat, laughing and pointing
in was excitable at the last Luca Bucket. I don't
know if he heard. He must have really heard the
criticism of how he didn't respond to anything and set

(23:02):
like on a little emperor's throne in the opener, So
he might have heard a little of that. Not to mention,
his name shows up just even tangentially in any of
these other stories like Nope, I'm a good teammate, I'm
a good guy, leave me alone.

Speaker 1 (23:17):
Maybe he just heard that Bronni was gonna get in
the game and he stood up because he still hasn't
gotten No, he has not twenty three point game with
five minutes to go in the fourth. You gotta think
Bronni's gonna get in at some point, right.

Speaker 4 (23:27):
And Dalton Canneck's only got four minutes?

Speaker 1 (23:29):
Yeah, ye, not a bit. Look at Marcus Smart not although,
oh the Marcus Smart is plus twenty four.

Speaker 4 (23:35):
Point Laavia plus twenty one. He's got five off the
bench in twenty three minutes.

Speaker 1 (23:41):
Played Luca now at forty eight with four and a
half to go in the fourth quarter. I would assume
jj rehtt and in near triple double again with eleven
rebounds and eight assists. I would assume he's gonna stay
in to get that fiftieth and then they're gonna take
him out. So I assume a fifty burger for Luca.
Then he will sit and watch the last four minutes
or fourth half, whatever it is of a Lakers victory

(24:01):
over the Tea one.

Speaker 4 (24:02):
Well, and then also have another one sided game over
here at the intuid Dome. Two games in Los Angeles tonight,
now that they have their own spot, the Clippers putting
on a show beating the hell out of the Suns.

Speaker 1 (24:13):
Ah, well, I mean, I think that's gonna happen a
lot this year. No, no, but I that's gonna happen.
But the Clippers no shown in game one. So it's
good to see them back and ready to play tonight.
Uh swelled. More of the night in the NBA coming
up throughout the show, of course, but big Football Friday.
Time to look at two of the biggest games in
the NFL slate this weekend and clearly Green Bay and

(24:35):
Pittsburgh the Aaron Rodgers revenge game. I'll tell you this,
the guy we're gonna be talking about after this game
is Jordan Love. That's the guy we're gonna talk Look,
I'm you already know. I don't believe in the Steelers.
I don't believe that they're a good team. They've beaten
bad teams. They don't throw the ball well, they don't
run the ball well, they don't play great defense. Pittsburgh stinks,

(24:57):
but yet somehow they have a decent record. I don't
believe even them at all. Right, this is primed for
Jordan Love to have one of those Hey, this is
why the Packers went to me instead of you games. Right,
Like we see this from him once in a while.
He is primed to have a huge game. And I'll
tell you what, I got him locked in as one
of my top three fantasy quarterbacks this week. This Steelers

(25:18):
defense isn't your normal Steelers d Right, Aaron Rodgers is
gonna wind up looking forty one years old, not terrible,
but not great. Green Bay will get a signature win
this year, an emotional game. I know it's hard to
go against Pittsburgh at home. They're getting the points, but
Green Bay is actually the more desperate team to be
able to stay in that race with the way the
Lions are playing. And now suddenly the Bears are for real.

(25:41):
So things are getting real crazy in the NFC North,
Fast Packers get a big win, Jordan Love has a
big game, and the Packers come away with a.

Speaker 4 (25:48):
W Look at you. I'm actually completely on the opposite side.
We dismissed the talk of revenge, revenge revenger, Well, he
kind of tried to slow play it now. I mean,
we've seen that the defense rise up a little bit,
and Jordan Love hasn't been great. His best game came
against the eleven Windmills, standing there passing his defenders for
the Cowboys. Otherwise he's been good, not great. It's been

(26:12):
a lot of Josh Jacob's question of whether Pittsburgh can
slow him down at all. Remember last week he was
a you know, true game time decision and then still
ran wild like and I can say it now. Time
has passed like the Hulcomania in the mid eighties. Uh,
but yeah, I'm looking for the Steelers to win this game.
And win it convincingly, and Dodgers laughs at all of you, and.

Speaker 1 (26:35):
Then he says, it was actually a revenge game. It
was a revenge I really did and then he falls
over like Vizzini that you know, that reminds me. That
reminds me of Kobe. When the Lakers beat the Celtics
to win the title, and they asked Kobe throughout the finals, like, hey,
what's it gonna mean to beat the Celtics. The Lakers

(26:57):
rival with the Celtics. You know, Kobe, who is such
a huge student of the game and how much you
know about He kept saying, listen, guys, that's not this
And I get that that was a long time ago
and those rivalries are great, but this is different and
this is you know, we're going out there trying to win.
The Celtics are a great team and all this, and
like the entire series, they just kept saying that to
He just kept saying, God, I don't know what to

(27:18):
tell you. That was a different time and this is now.
And then when the Lakers won, they asked him how
it felt to beat the Celtics off feels awesome, It's great,
and they said and one of the reporters said to him, Hey, so,
but you said it was just, you know, just another series,
like a laughing let's just laugh it off and go.
You said it was just another series. You know, you're
trying to win the title like you were against anybody else.
And Kobe just stopped and he stared at the reporter

(27:40):
and said, oh, man, guys, I was just flat out
lying to you. I was just lying to you, guys,
And I thought that was awesome. Like I was just
lying to you guys. This means everything to beat the
Celtics in the A file, twit it all old rule thumb.

Speaker 4 (27:56):
Maybe find your motivations whether you keep it in gurnal
you wear it on a sleeve right and try to
hype a game like you're a fight promoter. But yeah,
it's one of the most intriguing games we've got on
a slate. Six teams on a buy one game already
in the books, and this one a marquee matchup for
Aaron Rodgers for that offense. Is he gonna push the

(28:18):
ball downfield a ton?

Speaker 3 (28:19):
No?

Speaker 4 (28:20):
Will he get introduced to Micah Parsons pretty early, I'm sure?
So you know this is one where Friarmouth John new
Smith for fantasy purposes to you guys, you really love
hot route, get the ball out.

Speaker 1 (28:33):
Giants and the Eagles. Eagles are a seven and a
half point favorite. No aj Brown this week. He was
ruled out earlier today. I'll tell you what. I'll take
the Eagles minus twenty this week. I'll take one of
those super teasers, the Eagles minus twenty. They figured out
their offense last week. Last week was a huge week
for Philadelphia. You can start believing in them again. They

(28:55):
realize we need to be dynamic. They now know Saquon
Barkley's not to do it for them. They are going
to be Jalen Hurts driven and they know. Look, sometimes
a team coming off a Super Bowl needsible time to
figure it out. You thought the same formula was going
to work. You try to do it for a while,
it didn't. Offensively, you had guys that were unhappy. And

(29:17):
when everybody's unhappy, you got to talk to the coaches. Right,
But it's one player that's unhappy. Okay, why is one play?
But when everybody doesn't seem to be on the same page,
you got to get on the same page with the
coaching staff. It looks like they did that last week. Plus,
this is a game you can't discount the revenge game
factor for earlier in the year where the Eagles were
taken by surprise and the Giants suddenly showed everybody, hey,

(29:39):
we could be pretty good. This is how Super Bowl
champion stay motivated in the middle Bay part of the
regular season. Get Eagles minus seven and a half. I
would take the minus twenty over the Giants.

Speaker 4 (29:49):
Brandon Graham back to try to fight Scatamo, so you
know loading up there. Uh yeah, I think this is
one where you see that defensive front for Philadelphia really
make its way, that front seven does the job to
limit opportunities for the Giants, uh and that the Eagles
go to work. This is Saquon for me. Was one

(30:09):
of the big fantasy players on the iwatcher Flex podcast.
A lot of folks mad and wringing their hands because
it hasn't been there.

Speaker 1 (30:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (30:16):
Yeah, I think you get fed this week. Whether it
comes off the arm of Hurts in the passing game
a little bit as well. Big touch, big target, target,
big opportunity.

Speaker 1 (30:27):
So there's a couple of our big pick's biggest games
of the week in the NFL. Time now to find
out what's trending in the wide world of sports. For
someone who's been called the A. J. Brown Fox Sports Radio,
he's well read. Sometimes well, can I get the mind
that now? Now I'm just gonna say, now, it's my
new best friend, Steve de Seger, my old best friend,

(30:47):
Mike Carmon, what's a blow? My punchlines, my new best friend, Steve.

Speaker 6 (30:51):
De Seger, hold on, let me put the book aside.
Lu Is coming out of the game because he just
missed a free throwing before that at Chippy, So he
will finish with forty nine points and a big smile
that he missed. Lakers are leading with under three minutes
to go at home against Minnesota one twenty seven to
one oh five. Donsich with forty nine points, eleven rebounds,

(31:15):
eight assists, just three turnovers, all this in thirty five
minutes on the court. The other late game is in LA.
The Clippers are hosting and beating up Phoenix one oh
six two eighty. They're early in the fourth quarter there,
Kawhi Leonard twenty three points, teammate James Harden thirty, most
of that in the first half. Portland beat Golden State,
which had been to and oh one thirty nine one

(31:37):
nineteen Steph Curry thirty five points. The team had twenty
five turnovers though, and at Sacramento Zach Lavine thirty one
points in the King's Edge Utah one oh five, one
oh four victories on the road for Detroit and Washington,
for Miami and Cleveland, Atlanta as well. Milwaukee won at
Toronto one twenty two to one sixteen. New York at
home beat Boston one oh five ninety five thirty one

(31:59):
point two for Jalen Brunson. San Antonio won in overtime
at New Orleans one twenty to one, sixteen to nine
block shots for Victor Weman Yama twenty nine points, no turnovers.
We'll get to the World Series in a moment. In
the NHL, Toronto was beaten at Buffalo five three, Winnipeg
six and two, so far after beating Calgary, New Jersey
seven to one, after a win over San Jose, Washington

(32:22):
six and two, after winning at Columbus. You mentioned the NFL.
The Philadelphia Eagles have won twelve straight home games head
to head against the Giants, including playoffs, so essentially every
year for over a decade. That might continue this weekend.
Let's get to the NFL news as forty nine Ers
quarterback Brock perty is out again with the tow injury,

(32:43):
quarterback Bryce Young of the Panthers doubtful with a high ankle,
Spring Yes wide receiver Aj Brown of the Eagles out
hamstring injury, and Texans wide receiver Nico Collins out with
a concussion. Virginia Tech in double overtime one tonight's college
football game against Cal forty two to thirty four, or
Saturday on Fox TV, it's UCLA at number two, Indiana

(33:04):
and Yes. The World Series began in Canada tonight. Top
seed in the American League, Toronto blitz the Dodgers eleven
to four. All the games are on Fox TV at
about eight pm Eastern Time, So Game two tomorrow night
on Fox. It'll be pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamotos starting against the
Blue Jays Kevin Gosman. Tonight's loser was Blake Snelly. Went
five plus innings, charged with five runs, eight hits, one

(33:26):
hundred pitches thrown. He left in a tie game bottom
of the six believe it or not, bases loaded, no outs.
It wound up a nine run sixth inning for the
Blue Jays. Emmit Shechan came in all three of the
runners scored against him those two singles walk he gave up.
Anthony Bonda allowed a grand Slam to pincher pinch hitter
Addison Barger, first pinch grand slam in the history of

(33:49):
the World Series. These Toronto Blue Jays, if you look
at their roster, six of the guys, six out of
twenty six were born the last time the Blue Jays
were in the World Series in the early nineties. So yeah,
it's been a while.

Speaker 1 (34:03):
Ninety three, that's how long ago.

Speaker 6 (34:05):
Ninety three they won back to back World Series ninety
two to ninety three. In fact, the game winning homer
for Joe Carter in ninety three, who was the catcher
they beat was Darren Dalton. Wasn't it to Dalton Varshow
who homered in the fourth inning to tie this game tonight?

Speaker 1 (34:21):
And I think maybe his dad, Gary Varshow, was actually
playing in Major League Baseball at that point.

Speaker 6 (34:26):
His dad name the kid after Darren Dalton. That's that's
how long this has been. This month, the Blue Jays
have set a record already fifty extra base hits in
their first twelve games. Of the postseason. There hadn't been
a nine run inning in a World Series since the
nineteen sixty eight Tigers.

Speaker 1 (34:44):
Back to you, nineteen ninety three, Gary Varshow was playing
outfield for the Cincinnati Reds.

Speaker 4 (34:51):
How about that previously previous stops with the Cubs and Pirates. Yeah,
finished with the Phills in ninety five.

Speaker 1 (34:58):
You know, the war for his career was minus.

Speaker 4 (35:02):
You know what though, he's still got one an eight
year career.

Speaker 1 (35:05):
Yeah, I ain't not bad, not bet not bet. Hey.

Speaker 4 (35:08):
You need clubhouse guys too.

Speaker 1 (35:10):
And his and his kids really good. So there you go.

Speaker 4 (35:12):
Yeah, and all plays together.

Speaker 1 (35:13):
All right, Thank you very much, Steve, Jason Smith Mike
Harmon live from the Fox Sports Radio Studios. Coming up next,
we take a look at two of the biggest games
in college football tomorrow. Keep it right here, Jason and
Mike Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (35:26):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (35:37):
Jason Smith Show with My best friend Mike Harmon. We
have more on the day after the bombshell of the
NBA game fixing scandal coming up in about ten minutes
of the course. More in Game one of the World Series.
But tomorrow, two big games in college football for different reasons, right,

(35:58):
I mean, I feel like I'm a good football fan.
The game I'm looking forward to the most is UCLA
and Indiana. Like, you have other big games on the schedule,
but man, just how hot UCLA has been with Jerry Neuheisel,
you know, running things even though he's not the head coach,
doesn't matter. People don't think, hey, his hair, the way
the USLA offense is rolling, like they've been fun. And

(36:19):
here's Indiana, who is the flavor of the moment, number
two team in the country. Like, if I could watch
one game, that's gonna be the one. As I'm watching
Syracuse get pummeled by Georgia Tech, you know, this is
one I'm so interested in watching, and I hope that
it's gonna be a good game, but it's gonna be
really difficult. As much as I want to pick UCLA,
they're hot, their offense is hot, but Indiana is just

(36:43):
too good to lose. Right, this is a national audience
getting another big look at a big game for Fernando Mendoza.
I just hope UCLA can keep it exciting with some
points in the first half, but man, Indiana is gonna
run away with this in the end. This will be
when when Ucla the good times hit a little a
speed bump in the road. Indiana is that good? I
think Indiana wins this. Yeah, minus twenty five, minus thirty

(37:06):
it's gonna wind up being a big number at the
end for the Hoosiers.

Speaker 4 (37:08):
To win this game over under fifty three and a
half twenty six and a half your current total. This
is one where for Signetti, you know, because there's a
lot of press coming in to your your point about
UCLA and it's feel good since Deshaun Foster was taken
out Skipper and what we've seen from New Hizel and

(37:30):
it's a feel good story. Then the Signetti seemed like
the type of guy that wants to put up seventy
on him. Then oh sure, keep that offense off the field,
just bludging them like that's that. It just has that
gut feel to it. It's a home game, big attention
kind of game because there's only what three games of
rank versus rank kind of thing, you know, in terms

(37:53):
of you know, top notch opposition going through a lot
of teams facing less competition this week, so this one
will get a little more run, particularly as the Heisman
voting starts to come into into shape here. So yeah,
I would fully expect them to. We don't get to
say run it up for the bolsters anymore. He'll run

(38:15):
it up for the pollsters tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (38:18):
Meanwhile, the other game, because everybody's thinking, okay, now we
could because James Franklin had happened with him. Hey, if
this coach loses, he's gonna get fired. Texas A and
M and LSU Tomorrow, the number three Aggies go in
to LSU. They are a two and a half point favorite.
And I know there's the general consensus a off. If
Brian Kelly loses, he's gonna get fired. The buyouts fifty

(38:40):
million that could be put to it is a big check.
But we've seen it before. But here's the thing, right,
and this is where the world of outside sports dictates
what happens. LSU doesn't have a full time president right now,
they don't. They have an interim president, and they're figuring
out their finalists for who's gonna wind up being the
new school president. I don't think interim presidents are going

(39:02):
to make the call at oh, fifty million dollars pay Yeah,
I'm okaying. You firing Brian Kelly midway part of the season,
and we're okay. I don't think that happens.

Speaker 4 (39:11):
Should that be part of the interview process though?

Speaker 1 (39:13):
Oh yeah, yeah, Hey, what would you do it, Brian Kelly?

Speaker 4 (39:15):
Give us your best analysis of what we should do
in this situation. And if charged to find fifty million dollars,
what would be your first step be.

Speaker 1 (39:24):
His accent is fake? I'd get rid of him. Oh
you're my guy right now.

Speaker 4 (39:27):
Remember when he danced and he did that photo mood
thing like you do add a kid's birthday party. I
was out then.

Speaker 1 (39:34):
Now they're down to I think the final three or four,
so they should have a decision soon, and clearly that's
gonna be the first thing on the new president's desk,
So congratulations. But I think while this process is playing out, ie,
even if they get boat raced tomorrow, which could happen,
Kelly's going to live to coach another day. He's not
going to get fired after tomorrow.

Speaker 4 (39:51):
They're going to finish the job. I do think they
lose though they're not able to push the ball consistently downfield.
US whire need to see more from a guy that
we had such a great expectations for.

Speaker 1 (40:01):
We gotta get a president now because we need a
new head competition.

Speaker 4 (40:06):
Hey man, sometimes you need something to spur you on
due to a decision. That might be it football fans, mad.

Speaker 1 (40:13):
More college football on the way but coming up next.
Two big takeaways from the day after the huge NBA
gambling scandal. Fox
