Give this you're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:29):

the way tire buying should be. Well a little bit
(00:50):
more before we get into boy the day that Kevin
Durant had, I was really jealous of Josh Allen's your
NFL MVP. We've talked about this the last hours. Announced
NFL honors tonight, and it's a little weird because Lamar
Jackson was First Team All Pro. Thirty first place votes
for All Pro for Lamar Jackson, eighteen for Josh Allen
(01:12):
MVP tonight. Josh Allen twenty seven first place votes, Lamar
Jackson twenty three first place votes.
Speaker 3 (01:19):
Somebody went in and flipped the voters. Why is it
for deadlines? Different discussions? Why is it a big deal?
Because it's the same people voting for both of the awards,
And you know, we talked about this really quickly, you know,
a few minutes ago. But just for a little bit
more of this is that. You know, I told you
I would put Josh Allen.
Speaker 1 (01:37):
Third on my ballot. I would have Lamar Jackson and
Saquon Barkley both ahead of him. He had, Josh Allen
had a great year. He had two amazing weeks where
I felt like that got him a lot of his votes.
But now maybe a lot of the votes came because
people just wanted to give him the MVP. And there's
no reason why you would change your vote from Lamar
(01:58):
Jackson to Josh Allen or vice versa. If you believe
one of them is all pro, that's your vote for MVP.
If you believe one of them is MVP, that's right right.
The only thing that you change is if, well, here's
who I think is all pro quarterback but I think
say Kwon Barkley is the MVP, or I think Garrett
Wilson is the MVP, or I think Mackai Beckton is
the MVP. You know, if you have a different position. Hey,
(02:20):
all right, you're talking about MVP here, but you got
to be consistent because that's not fair. And it's two
different two different awards, but it's the same. You're talking
about who's the who's the best quarterback in the NFL.
I'm voting for Lamar Jackson. Who's the MVP. Oh that's
Josh Allen. Wait, how I mean that doesn't make that
doesn't hold any water at all. Right, it's it again.
Just think about awards sometimes right from the because I've
(02:42):
said this a few times, you know, you hear me
talk about this once in a while, But it mainly
goes with the Oscars. Right where somewhere around the beginning
early two thousands, the Oscars changed from the best person
in that movie to when can we reward someone for
the career they have had? Right? When when are we
(03:04):
being able to give Leo DiCaprio Best Actor? Well here's Revenant.
Well he's unconscious for most of the movie. Yeah, but
he's really good in it, and he's nominated. This is
the year we can give him the Oscar. Doesn't really
make any sense, but okay, let's go that Departed for
Martin Scorsese. Scorsese's gonna win for this. Really, it's gonna
win for Departed. He's done a handful of movies that
(03:24):
were better. But hey, it's nominated, it was good. We
can give him the award for the career he has had.
We're gonna see it this year when de me Moore
wins Best Actress for the Substance. I didn't think she
was that great. I caught her acting a lot, but
the movie had a lot of buzz. It was really graphic,
and she was in every scene and helped carry the movie.
So hey, she's nominated. We can reward her because she's
(03:46):
made a lot of money for Hollywood.
Speaker 3 (03:48):
Folks submarining their Oscar campaigns with some comments probably along
the way, that's what was not the favorite original.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
That I would also know. The PR firm Smith and
Harmon will help you how to will avoid the traps
in the future. First thing, delete social media off your phone.
Great now when you and when you play that out,
voters are still the same, right, they still are, They
still fall prey to those same things, those same tendencies,
(04:17):
whether you're voting for an Oscar Award or for MVP. Hey,
Lamar Jackson's all pro. But boy, this could be the
last time I get a chance to give josh Allen
the MVP. He is at an incredible career. Lamar Jackson's
already got too. Did you really need to have three? Now?
I can give this to josh Allen over him. Uh Okay,
(04:38):
if it's one or two votes, maybe I could see
it if it's that close, because hey, maybe more people
had Lamar Jackson finishing third on their ballot then and
Josh Allen had more seconds. Whoever voted for Saquon Barkley.
I could see that math. But this thirty to eighteen
and then it flips around twenty seven to twenty three.
That doesn't that that doesn't that doesn't hold any But again,
(05:00):
it's two separate awards. You get to split the baby. Right.
If you're a voter, I could see how you.
Speaker 3 (05:06):
Can rationalize it to yourself just saying, look, they both
deserve some praise, because we we will give the credit.
We won't be the Hey, you know what, he finished
a distance second last year. That was great, No whereas
now praise But each.
Speaker 1 (05:22):
Whoever you think is the best quarterback in the NFL.
How is that not the m v P. How do
you change? How does Lamar Jackson lose seven votes and
Josh Allen gain four votes? In that I get the
the MVP. A couple people vote for Saquon Bark That's
why the math doesn't end up right there. But you
had Josh Allen gain four votes and Lamar Jackson lose
(05:43):
seven votes. Right, that's a lot of people that and
he's here all the Hall of Fame voters are from
what everybody and everybody that's voting on m VP.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
They all got a nice shipment of wings and a
way they went.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
No, but voters are being asked, no, I didn't change
my vote. They got a big pile of wings in
front of them. Just put him in, put them right here.
All good?
Speaker 3 (06:04):
Oh, but it goes back to, you know the discussion
we were having, you know when we were first kind
of cracking on the Tracy Wolfson. You should not have
put that tweet out right, you know, here's the m
v P and then you delete it. Clown ah hacked whatever.
Now you just you have the information and you put
it out early. You did not meet the embargo. For
(06:26):
those that are unawares, oftentimes you get a story information
in this case voting, where you have the information, you
could start writing your leads, You could start doing all that,
but you can't release it until someone goes on a
stage and tells you there you go.
Speaker 1 (06:40):
But the the idea here that maybe maybe if you're voting,
you're you're looking at it all pro and you're saying,
all right, you know, stat driven best at a position.
Here's how we go through, here's my analytics, and then
the MVP, right, we do this?
Speaker 3 (06:56):
Well?
Speaker 1 (06:57):
Me, what did he mean?
Speaker 3 (06:59):
What did he mean to his squad versus Lamar was
the best guy on a really good team with really
good comble.
Speaker 1 (07:07):
I'm just trying to parse it out.
Speaker 3 (07:08):
Like again, I picked down before the year if he'd lost, Hey,
he had a good year. Lamar was ridiculous, and I
think we all stipulate to that. Sakwa Barkley was ridiculous.
All three of those guys. I got no problem with
a winning. I'm curious as the decision making for these
five to seven people as to what flipped them and
how they came across the divide the simplest expla light
(07:33):
just come down to we split the baby.
Speaker 1 (07:35):
They both did an award I want, I want, And
that's not right, it's not mean. This is this is
what we've seen with voters that are taking their own
personal spin and putting too much of it on the
Hall of Fame. What do they charge you with here? Though?
Speaker 3 (07:49):
Like is there is there a specific criteria other than best?
Because best means a lot of things to people. This
guy's the best is the MVP? No wait, wait, how
how is he? How is he not better than the
other guy?
Speaker 1 (08:00):
He just isn't. Well just why why'd you vote for
him for All Pro? Well? Because he was really really good.
So you're saying he was the best quarterback this year, Yes,
but he's not the MVP. No, okay, I don't. I
don't see how that computes. I don't see how you
can do that. I really I think it's just that
simple as that we want to give. I want to
give Josh Allen the MVP. I want I want him
(08:20):
to win because I feel he should deserve it, and
I don't know when he can win again. Maybe maybe
this is maybe this is the last great year he has, right,
this is my last chance to really give him that award.
So I'm giving the award to Josh Allen. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (08:31):
I just I'm trying to think in terms of definitionally
the word best. Does it mean you ranked first, or
because a lot of places call themselves the best, saying best, Oh, the.
Speaker 1 (08:45):
World's best cup of coffee. Congratulation, Right, But who's doing
the judging you versus me? I mean I may think
about something the best a little more, a little differently
than you. But if I'm judging coffee and I say, hey,
this place has the best cup of coffee, I'm judging.
I'm a food critic. Congratulate, put it up in your wall.
(09:06):
But this other place, I'm saying, hey, they have the
most valuable cup of coffee. Wait, what does that mean? Well,
cost efficiency. I might like that of coffee more because
it was specials, but they got the ones from the
this other place. You know, maybe I want to give
(09:27):
you guys the best cup of coffee. Now, I mean
it doesn't that's not consistent, that doesn't make sense. It's
just I'm putting my personal spin on the award and
that's what we have to do without. It's the people
not voting for Echiro. How do you do this? How
do you vote here to know? How do you not
vote for it? I have a very simple a guy.
How do you not vote for Eli Mann even think
(09:48):
he's a Hall of Famer? How do you not vote
for Antonio Gates last year, but you vote for him
this year? Oh, we just want to teach him a
lesson because of the ped stuff. That's not your job.
Your job is is he one of the best players?
Should he belong in the Hall of Fame? Not just
well I want a Dingham for that. But this is
what voters do, and this is the most blatant example
of it. Just I'm changing my vote because because at
(10:09):
least I could see the reason behind it. I could
disagree with it, but I when I say, hey, I
really want to hold that against Antonio Gates, So I'm
not going to vote for him. That's not your job.
But all right, it gives me thought that you have
looked into it, and you're and you're and you're giving
me an opinion. I disagree with it, but at least
it shows me that you've done it. You can't show
me anything that says, yeah, Josh Allen is not the
(10:30):
is not the All Pro quarterback, but he's the MVP.
Speaker 2 (10:32):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (10:33):
How is Lamar Jackson All Pro and not the MVP? Really?
I mean, of all your argument, you know what it
comes down to, of all the voting. Nobody should ever
vote again, no about anything. No people should. People should
vote and just be consisted. Vote like it, like it's
a responsibility. Vote vote not because hey, this would be
kind of fun, or boy, I really feel bad about
this guy not getting an MVP award, so I'm going
(10:54):
to vote for him. It's not how you vote for stuff,
not how you do it.
Speaker 3 (10:57):
It will see, but now you're projecting emotions into it.
They'll feel bad for Josh Adams get off. They liked
the Hailey Steinfeld how.
Speaker 1 (11:05):
Is more Hawkey? They thought she was wor pitch perfect?
She was boring and pitch perfect. She was better in Hawkeye.
I did enjoy her in Hawkeye. Hily talented actress.
Speaker 3 (11:15):
So maybe they decided they wanted her to get a
little more screen.
Speaker 1 (11:18):
Time than They put Josh Allen right in the front
row right and saw that it was great, great, I
mean great picturing of him right in the front row.
Speaker 3 (11:26):
Remember the old joke winning and sing a song, win
a Grammy, right, how many years? Like, Hey, that guy
just went off the stage. He's waiting there. Hey, his
category's up. Let him walk right back on stage. Remember
Metallic can perform than Jeth Thruit's all one. Stuff happens.
Speaker 1 (11:41):
Wait, what's it to you? Why the hell do you
care so much? So what Josh Allen want m v P? Yeah,
I think he didn't want me to be right with
I think no, it's fine, no harmon had Josh Allen,
I said Baker Mayfield, boy, I should have been right
with that. He had as many touchdowns as as Lamar Jackson.
But no. But it's it's when you go through the
last couple of weeks of voting for a war words
and you realize we spend so much time in this.
(12:02):
It means a lot to a lot of people outside
of j Cole their dummies, being the MVP. Being the
MVP is a bit winning that this is this is Hey,
I put together all the blood, sweat and tears I could,
and I had the best season of anybody in the NFL.
But because I have somebody that watches the games thinking, nah,
I'd rather this guy win because that guy already has
hearing to you, Lamar Jackson doesn't care as much as
(12:23):
you do. Right now, Oh, what's Lamar Jackson gonna say? Oh,
I can't believe you. Of course he's gonna take the
high road now.
Speaker 3 (12:28):
Now, the best though, go back to the j Cole
conversation that we had when he talked about what was
it four hundred, four hundred people that he four hundred
and sixty people players, longtime players, coaches, executive including twenty
six Hall of Favors, that Eli Manning was under forty
four percent and that Antonio Gates only came in at
(12:49):
sixty eight percent. Boy, there's a lot of salty ass
people that he's talking to.
Speaker 1 (12:54):
I want all those interviews and conversations on tape. Are
you kidding me? That's where the value is. Thirty people
saying blank you to Antonio Gates based on his research.
That's fantastic. It's all you're walking around. It's all former
Raiders who were saying no, no, you vote for him,
and I'm gonna see you in the alley after this, Okay.
Speaker 3 (13:17):
Maroncos you start going through it, it's just a thread
back to four particular team.
Speaker 1 (13:22):
None of those guys are safe. I will find you,
and I don't want you. It's like John Well, you're
like John Wick. Frostburg has got the bulletproof suits. No, no,
you would dress like Boltman and you would have the
bulletproof Boltman and he'd be out going to get everybody.
There'll probably get a greenlit Boatman horror movie based on
bolt Man made like all of these knockoffs and things
(13:45):
that have gone into the public domain. Man looks a
little too much like duff Man or mac to Night
a little bit too much, Yeah, a little bit. Well,
the moon the moonshade, but I mean the whole the
whole body of Oh my oh when uh, when when
Duffman shows up at Mo's and Homer can't drink Oh no,
oh no, they hear the music out there, exit out

be done right. I think things should be done right
because it's a responsibility to do things like this and
consistency in doing your job right. Okay, and not saying
this is my opinion of how I think this award
should be interpreted. That's that's not how it goes.

Right now, the Lakers were out to a twenty point
lead over the Warriors at halftime, Lebron James hitting threes
from the logo. A little bit closer now with about
four minutes to go at the crypt Lakers lead the
Warriors one oh nine to one oh one. We'll have
more on this game coming up in a few minutes.
But look, today the trade deadline ended with kind of
(17:19):
a whimper. Not that I can complain, because you know,
we had Luca, we had a d we had Jimmy Butler,
we had de Aaron Fox Like, we had a really
good deadline ry. But the Knicks didn't do anything. No,
and we'll we'll get to that part. We'll get to
the Knicks. Because there's a couple of teams that didn't
do anything today. One team I really liked it didn't
do anything. They actually did, so now they got a
(17:41):
hundred today. One team I really liked, they didn't do anything.
One team they really needed to do something and they didn't.
But the guy that owned the day that I love
was Kevin Durant, right because we thought he was going
to get traded and things looked really rough, right. Ramona
Shelburne of ESPN said, the Sun's lit room is toxic
right now. It's so difficult.
Speaker 3 (18:02):
Kevin Durant, everybody getting traded, potentially going to get traded.
Speaker 1 (18:06):
Then he didn't. But my favorite part of the day,
just because I like when when when what goes around
comes around you can see it is that the Warriors
pivoted from Kevin Durant when they said, quote the coldness
that they got from him when they reached out about
reuniting and bringing him into Golden State. Steph Curry said, yeah,
(18:30):
he had a feeling the way his phone calls had
gone with KD the last few days that he had
no desire to join Golden State. And the Warriors said
that was this specific word they used, was the coldness
that they got from Kevin Durant about a reunion. And
I love this because for whatever reason, look, we know
that Kevin Durant wasn't happy, wanted to leave, whether it
(18:51):
was Draymond Green, whether it's not getting enough credit, didn't
feel that he was treated right in Golden State, so
he left. And now the last few years, boy Kd's
kind of jumped around didn't really bring the next to
any heights, hasn't brought the suns to any heights. But
today he got that what goes around comes around revenge. Right,
you you wanted to push me out, you did. I
(19:13):
wasn't treated the way I thought you should treat me
in the locker room, whether it was Draymond or anyone else.
And now I'm gonna let you. I'm gonna let you
approach me, but then I'm gonna I'm gonna really make
you look bad, and I'm gonna be cold and saying no,
I am not coming by. Are you kidding? I Am
not coming back there? Uh? And revenge, they always say,
(19:34):
is a dish best served cold, And this is KD
getting that, getting that revenge. You see what I did say,
That's that's why I get the medium sized dollars. Uh.
This is this is a moment that I'm really jealous
for because whenever in my career I feel like I've
been wronged by somebody or or a company or a
corporate whatever it is, I always say, you know, man,
(19:54):
I really want to see what goes around comes around.
I really want to be there to see it come around.
And the thing is you're not always there for it,
and you have to understand the best revenge is always
living well and and trying to forget things. But at
the time it's like, boy, you know, when the bad
guys win, you say, boy, I really want to see
what goes around comes right. You don't always get to
do that right. Sometimes it happens you're not there, you
(20:15):
don't see it. But here's KD. You had a chance
to get that himself. Oh no, no, I'm not coming
back to you. Guys. Oh now a couple of years later,
you're desperate. Now you want me go blank yourself. I'm
not coming back here. And he's walking around going man,
that felt good, Wow, that felt great. Well because he's.
Speaker 3 (20:31):
Able to sit back right you're waiting for people to
get their come up and and for things to be
the shortcomings right. And if the reports about the Warriors
earlier in the week are true, then Durant also had
the delicious theater of are they really calling everybody?
Speaker 1 (20:50):
They're really calling everything.
Speaker 3 (20:52):
I'm not specially trying to get somebody out of nut special,
but but more so, the no like being able to
look at it coldly. Whatever the relationships are with Steph
or Draymond or Kerr or in the front office has
changed over a little bit. Bob Byer's on there talking
about how Memphis made a last day.
Speaker 1 (21:12):
I don't think he was supposed to say that.
Speaker 3 (21:14):
He had a look on his face like eh, or
at least the people on the dais didn't seem to
think he was gonna say that on air.
Speaker 1 (21:22):
Lymphis, Okay, it's like one of those quotes.
Speaker 3 (21:25):
Where it's like, we talked about it yet, but I'm
not gonna say that on air. But you know, just
so you know, Memphis reads out as well, Hey sorry, guys,
my bad on that bed, and.
Speaker 1 (21:33):
Then all of a sudden he gets excited. The light goes.
Speaker 3 (21:35):
I was like, hey, you know, and Memphis took a shot. Okay, cool,
which is which is a nice little fun piece to it.
But for Kevin Durant, it gets to the all right,
if I were to go back, I'm the one who
looks desperate because Steph is always the magnanimous, great, welcoming superstar. Right,
He's cool with giving the spotlight. So at no point
(21:56):
is it going to be Steph and the Warriors are desperate.
If I go back, it's me jumping to another team
and I look desperate and I get killed for it.
And he still cares enough, even though he does protest
a bunch about it that he doesn't he still cares
enough of what people think about him that he's not
gonna go there a to fix their problem but also
be looked upon as the guy who's desperate for relevance.
Speaker 1 (22:19):
Exit about a Fresca exit swollen dome. My, what a
wonderful moment this must have been for Kevin der Pretty good, right?
Speaker 3 (22:25):
I mean, does he have any recordings of the Steph conversations,
because that'll be funny.
Speaker 1 (22:29):
I'm gonna save it. Hey, put dre on for me
first sect, will you? Hey? Drake begged me to come
back for I mean to come back and play. Yeah,
it'd be great. Hey blank you Draymond hang the phone,
and then he just sends a gift of two MVP trophies. Uh,
coming up in ninety seconds. My favorite NFL story of
the day comes from a podcast. But first, who let's
(22:49):
talk to someone who's been called the Kevin Durant of
Fox Sports Radio. She waits a long time for revenge
and is very happy to get it. It's Monzi Blago.
Speaker 4 (22:59):
I do wait a long time for revenge, but I
don't know how I feel about Kevin Durant. It's okay, alright, alright, guys.
For the longest time, the two LA teams couldn't be
playing at the same time until this year. Now that
the Clippers have their own arena, so the two games
left Lakers and Clippers. Lakers are beating the Warriors one
fifteen to one oh nine with one minute to go.
(23:19):
Lebron James forty two points, seventeen rebounds, seven assists. Steph
Curry was not having a good shooting night. It's kind
of picking it up, so he's got thirty five points.
Now the Pacers and the Clippers are tied at ninety
four with less than eight minutes to go in that one.
Pascal Siakam thirty points and ten rebounds four Indiana. The
other games that I've wrapped up, it wasn't that many
(23:41):
in the NBA. Today, the Mavericks defeated the Celtics in Boston,
won twenty seven to one twenty. No Anthony Davis, yet,
they're hoping he makes his debut Saturday at home against
the Rockets, who lost today to the Timberwolves one twenty
seven to one fourteen. Anthony Edwards had forty one points tonight.
Yesterday he had forty nine points the Nugget. They took
down the Magic one twelve to ninety behind a triple
(24:02):
double from Nikola Jokic, and the Trailblazers just held on
to defeat The Kings went away to one two. And
the NFL awards A yes, a bit of a discussion
between you two that Bill's quarterback Josh Allen won the MVP.
He received twenty seven first place votes. Lamar Jackson received
twenty three. He Goes running back Saquon Barkley was the
(24:23):
Offensive Player of the Year, and Kevin O'Connell, head coach
of the Vikings, is the coach of the year. ESPN
reports that Canelo Alvarez and Jake Paul are finalizing a
deal for a cruiserweight fight on May third in Las Vegas.
And in hockey, the Capitol's Edgela Flyers W three. Alex
Lovechkin scored goal number eight hundred and seventy nine, so
he's sixteen goals away from surpassing Wayne Gretzky for most
(24:45):
all time.
Speaker 1 (24:46):
Back to you guys, Thank you min sech Yes, we'll
have more on the Lakers and the Warriors coming up
in a few minutes, because right now, I don't know
who's more upset after that last offensive possession by the Lakers.
Draymond Steph and Steve Kerr are all equally screaming at
the officials over what probably was a violation they felt
(25:07):
should have been called again. We'll have more details on
this coming up in a few minutes. But my favorite
NFL story of the day, and it comes to us
from someone who most NFL fans can't stand, at least
if you judge by social media, Matthew Stafford's wife, Kelly,
who did a podcast today and talked about the trade
rumors that have been flying around. Matthew Stafford since he
(25:29):
announced he's coming back, and Sean mcva says, we kind
of want a decision. Maybe Matthew Stafford saying maybe wants
to be traded. She talked about how she doesn't really
understand why the Rams traded Cooper Cup but listen to
what she says, and then at the end, I'll tell
you why I love Kelly Stafford. Here she was.
Speaker 5 (25:47):
Wasn't planning on discussing this, but hell why not.
Speaker 1 (25:51):
My husband wants to win.
Speaker 5 (25:54):
He's not gonna He's not trying to put a team
in a bad situation. If you're catching my drift, you're
catching my drift, I will say, the trading away of Cooper,
I guess I'm just a little I'm confused because we
were one play away from going to the NFC Championship,
(26:15):
and I think if we go, we win. I have
to be the dog in the situation, being like, I
want the respect for him that he deserves. Yes, I
love the city of La. I love the city of La.
With that being said, I love an adventure.
Speaker 1 (26:32):
Whoa Kelly Stafford. My husband like wants to win. He
wants to win. Did he write the statement? For so
many people are just just crushing her because of what
she said coming on here and saying, I don't know
why we traded Cooper Cup, throwing down the gauntlet and sad,
I love adventure, meaning that if you want to trade us,
(26:56):
we're okay. You think you're gonna threaten us with a trade, okay,
we love adventure. I love Kelly Stafford because one she
creates content for us, which is awesome, and two because
she always gives you a window into what's going on
with either Stafford the Rams, and she did that in
a large way today. The Cooper Cup thing, Okay, I
(27:21):
get Cooper Cup was great once upon a time. He's
not great anymore. You don't need him. You could see
in the games that he played this year for the
Rams he wasn't nearly the player that he was, So
I get you're upset about that. And maybe that's part
of her philosophy of if you're getting rid of the
older players, if you're getting rid of Cooper Cup, what's
going to stop you from saying we want to start
(27:41):
over at quarterback? And because Matthew's going to be thirty seven,
thirty eight years old, I don't think anybody's treating Matthew
Stafford poorly. I'm pretty sure for his career, Matthew Stafford's
going to make over eight hundred million dollars in contract money.
I think he's I don't think anybody is disrespecting him
on it. But the big thing she gave us the
(28:02):
window that hey, we are ready to throw down the gauntlet.
You want to trade us, go ahead. We love adventure,
we love Los Angeles, but we can go someplace else.
This is why I love Kelly Stafford.
Speaker 3 (28:15):
Salty matt Stafford, and she's the mouthpiece trying to.
Speaker 1 (28:20):
I'm the dog on this, like Matthew won't say this.
I'm the dog on this. I got news for you.
I would not poke the bear on this. You've seen
the Rams start over and reload on the fly at
every position. That's how you showed up. They wanted to
get rid of Jared Goff so bad. They said, take
a younger quarterback and first round picks. We want Matthew Stafford.
(28:43):
They were unafraid to do that. They're not a normal
NFL team where Sean McVay is gonna say one more
year of Matthew, will draft our quarterback of the future
and we'll kind of go on from That's how we
do it. No, Sean McVay is, hey, we don't want
to repeat it last year. We don't want Matthew Stafford
to say, hey, we want more money. We've paid him
a lot. We're doing this that we're drawing a line
(29:05):
in the sand. Sean McVay has pretty much drawn a
line in the sand. And if you want to say
we love adventure, don't be surprised. I thought a few
days ago this is gonna blow over. Stafford does his thing,
he says he wants then he says he wants to
come back. They're gonna figure things out now. Don't be
surprised if suddenly the Rams make a big quarterback trade,
(29:26):
and whether it's a situation where they trade Stafford for
somebody else, because I can see the Rams we reload
on the fly. Yeah, we want to build around the
young guys. We have Kien Williams and Pukinakua. Yeah, we
want to build around these guys. I'm sure Jordan Whittington's
gonna get a lot of run next year at wide receiver.
They loved him this year. There was a lot of
room for him. Don't be surprised if I start seeing
something like, hey, Rams pull a deal with the Dolphins
(29:50):
for Tua, or the Rams pull a deal with the
Jaguars for Trevor Lawrence. Don't be surprised when you see
things like that. Hey, maybe the Rams say we're gonna
make a deal and get Sam Darnold for really cheap
and replace you with Sam Darnold. This is how the
Rams do it. This is how they do business. To
ignore that it's folly. They're not any other team. I mean,
(30:11):
nobody reloads in the history of the NFL like the
Rams do. The Sean McVeigh is like he's leaning outside
of a car in a in a car chase scene
in a movie, and he's shooting at the guy in
the other car and he's out of bullets, and somehow,
with one hand holding onto the roof, he ejects the magazine,
puts the other magazine in with one hand, reloads, agains
(30:34):
back and going after the bad guys. Like that's what
the Rams do. F them picks, man, Hey, f them picks.
We'll take Trevor Lawrence and we'll we'll spin Matthews. Do
you want to go play for the Giants, We'll trade
you the Giants go ahead. I saw the Giants potentially
would be interested if they want to do that. This
is how the Rams do it. So in five days
I've gone from that. They'll figure this out. Stafford's back
(30:54):
next year. He's still playing at a really high level.
Everything is going well. The last half of the year
was really good. They can't afford to have him have
the first half of the year like he had because
it was really bad because those games count two. But
they'll figure this out. Now at the point where WHOA,
there's a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes,
and Kelly Stafford just opened the window and showed us
all of that. Do not be surprised if the Rams say,
(31:15):
blank those picks, blank this, We're gonna go get a bigger,
younger quarterback and we'll get up whatever pick we get
and spin Matthew Stafford off, Because what did I tell
you a few days ago? If Stafford became available, there's
lots of teams that would say we're into him for
two years rather than try to take a quarterback in
the draft and make it work, or there's nobody else
(31:36):
in free agency, we're gonna go after Hey, we'll spin
you up. Maybe not be a one for one trade,
like for Stafford for Jared Goff. But hey, we'll get
our one quarterback from this team and we'll spin Stafford
off to another team if.
Speaker 3 (31:47):
I could get out of paying him fifty million dollars.
He gave me twenty touchdowns and eight picks this year.
He was good in spots. He gave you a good
last half of the year.
Speaker 1 (31:56):
But which is what Stafford does.
Speaker 3 (31:57):
Started slow, and you lost games early on. I mean,
you lost the Bears for crying out loud, yeah, but
and they couldn't do anything.
Speaker 1 (32:05):
It seems like you're gonna hold that against every team
that the Bears beat, with the Rams in particular, like
that game, because that was a sloppy game, that was
not a pretty game, and they had ample opportunity to
go and take it. But they were so disjointed starting
this season.
Speaker 3 (32:23):
And you could easily say, well, they were missing a
couple of guys, or everybody's hurt.
Speaker 1 (32:27):
Okay, there's injuries all over the place.
Speaker 3 (32:29):
Their quarterback was available, Okay, go make a play U
and they did not.
Speaker 1 (32:34):
So when we look at the way the off season
went last year, and and to mcveigh's comments, this time around,
of like, we can't. We can't have a holding battern,
particularly if you're gonna lean on that many young guys
right when you weren't gonna have Cooper Cup available, Nikua's
banged up, all of these things that you can't rely
on those what do you need?
Speaker 3 (32:52):
You need Matthew Stafford in camp taking reps with those guys.
You need that month and a half to go, and
whatever offseason workouts that you get in off the books,
off the the purview of the now lighter NFL workout
schedule and approved practice schedule in the off season.
Speaker 1 (33:12):
You're not gonna go through that again. He's another year older.
You had a great run and it ended and with
Cooper Cup twenty twenty one, ain't coming back, and maybe
Matthew still has some big games ahead of him. Clearly
he's pissed. That's the only reason she's ranting about this
because now she's being told that we may we may
have to, you know, pick up our stakes and.
Speaker 3 (33:31):
Move somewhere else. And that's fine. Plenty of folks can
go take a run for him for a year or two.
I don't want him at that cost. Like if I
could get out of forty nine million dollar costs. Deploy
those dollars with the young assets. I mean, you had
a guy win defensive Rookie of the Year.
Speaker 1 (33:46):
Right, No, but this is all about there's nobody out
there in free agency. So it's not like, well Stafford
would be fourth or fifth, LUs Taffids number one there.
But I'm McVeigh. Yeah, I could go and I can
turn a guy. He doesn't have to be a lists. Yeah,
I need to be this guy with the defense that
I'm building, it's just not gonna be a draft pick.
It's gonna be he's not. I'm not going to build
(34:06):
to bring a quarterback to.
Speaker 3 (34:09):
Day three and then you're going to go and grab
whoever in the market.
Speaker 1 (34:14):
Back hanging out the dens of Trevor Lawrence, Trevor Lawrence
to the little stressed property. Why not exit out bout
a Fresca exit swelling dome. Don't be surprised when the
Rams do that. Eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox,
Jason Smith Mike Harmon Live from the TIREC dot com studios.
After what we just saw between the Lakers and the Warriors,
I got one big bolt prediction for the Lakers. I
(34:34):
feel absolutely awesome about what is it? I'll tell you
next Jason and Mike Fox.
Speaker 2 (34:41):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.
Speaker 1 (34:50):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Harmon Live from the Tyreck dot Com Studios.
Final from the Crypt. The Lakers in a game. They
were blowing the Warriors out at halftime sixty nine forty nine.
Got a little closer at the end, however, it was
(35:12):
still a Laker one twelve, a one twenty to one
twelve victory. Lebron James a huge night, forty two points
for him, including a logo three to in the first quarter,
seventeen rebounds, eight assists the Lakers since the Luca trait,
since the Saturday. And you can't tell me they went
into that next game and Lebron didn't know, and they
(35:32):
didn't know what was going on. That ad was gonna
be dealt careful. Lebron's nurs are gonna come after you.
He didn't know.
Speaker 3 (35:40):
Yeah, sure, he was a good notion. Has no invisible
hand in this process.
Speaker 1 (35:45):
One situation, I'll give you one Bowl prediction that I
think you can put to bed forever. Lebron James will
play another three years whatever it's gonna be, and he's
gonna finish with the Lakers. He's not going anywhere else.
All threats of I don't know if I'm gonna do
this right go. Since the AD trade, you can see
how energized he is, even taking his game as a
(36:07):
forty year old to another level. Again, forty year olds
don't usually go forty two to seventeen and eight. But Lebron,
if he was really mad about the AD trade, what
would have happened. He would have pouted, he would have
not said anything. He would have been he would have
been sitting out a game or two. You wouldn't have
heard from him because he would want you to know
without saying things how upset he was. And Anthony Davis
(36:27):
getting trade would have found a way. He would have
found a way to quiet quit. He'd have gone zero
dark twenty three for the next week super Bowl week
agoing zero dark twenty three. That's what would have happened,
But instead it's been the opposite. The game against the Knicks,
Lebron goes nuts. They shoot fifty eight percent from the floor.
The interview on the court after the game. He is
giddy and laughing and excited.
Speaker 3 (36:49):
Well he got to beat the Knicks, sure, but usually dominated.
Speaker 1 (36:55):
At the garden. But usually he does his postgame interviews
on the court. He's not really looking at the reporter.
He's kind of wiping his mouth with his jersey, and
he's just giving you a couple of things here and
there and ready to go. This was excitement this way.
It was a different person. I'm like, wow, watching them going, Wow,
he's really excited after this game. Well, then you find
(37:15):
out Luca gets trained. Number of guys.
Speaker 3 (37:17):
We're actually talking about how Reddick was all jacked up
and keyed up over the course of that day too,
before the game.
Speaker 1 (37:23):
So I know, it's kind of curious they knew. But
the bottom line is he's he's been a different guy.
He has been focused, he has been he's more bought in.
He has been leading, he has been playing great. He
has bought in for the Lakers now for the rest
of his career. The Lakers made two incredible trades in
the last couple of days, getting well. It was a
great deal last night, and obviously Luca is going to
(37:45):
help carry the team for the next decade plus. This
is his best. He knows now. This team is now
built to get to the back to the NBA Finals,
potentially win a championship. Let's just see how long it
takes us to come together. Hopefully we still have a
good portion of the season before the playoffs start. I
think will be pretty good. Lebron seems to assimilate to
certain players well, and he really wants to play with Luca.
(38:06):
He says he wanted to play with Luca for a
long time, So I feel pretty good that Lebron. Whatever
we hear from here on out is just posturing. Lebron's
not going anywhere. He's going to play the rest of
his career alongside Luca, and that's how it's going to go.
It's gonna be weird at the end when Lebron kind
of walks away and it's still kind of my team,
still Luca's team. Still reminding you these last few nights
(38:28):
here before Lucas shows up. Hey, remember I'm still the
biggest of the big dogs here. But he's not going
anywhere else. He's going to stay a Laker until he's
finished playing. Brony is here. You know, Bron, He's in
under contract the next three years whatever it's going to be. Yeah,
Lebron's going to stay a Laker for the rest of
his career. It's not changing.
Speaker 3 (38:46):
Well, I mean he did talk about it the other
night after you know, Luca gets dealt that if he
wanted out, because the immediate speculation was I mean I
saw him photoshopped into a Clipper jersey. Right, he can
go over to the Intuit Dome and stay in La.
He can go do this. Here's a couple of other
teams where he might make sense, even getting traded to
these Warriors, all of these things, and he said, well,
(39:08):
if I wasn't happy, I'd waive my no trade clause
and just kind of drop the microphone at that point.
Speaker 1 (39:15):
Right, big efforts here.
Speaker 3 (39:17):
It's also kind of throwing down the gauntlet that, uh,
you know, once Lucas starts playing half it goes bad.
Speaker 1 (39:22):
I mean, look how brilliant I was, so you can't
blame me.
Speaker 2 (39:25):
So ye.
Speaker 1 (39:26):
Look, the thing is he's playing two teams that I mean,
but you call it energize here with the Knicks and
the Warriors. Those are two teams lay the same. He
likes playing them. I disagree with you on the I
can blame someone because he's gonna lose the popularity contest
with Luca. Right if it comes to him versus Luca,
(39:47):
Laker fans are gonna say, Luca Lucas, but the new
guy is ineffective. You really think Luca's gonna be in effected?
And maybe he's unavailable at times. We already delayed him
once he was supposed to start Saturday, He's back to Monday.
What if that becomes an alternating Wednesday. I mean, I
think we should just keep pushing the debuts of both
he and a D to make it morey. Hey, we're
(40:09):
not gonna play for a while.
Speaker 3 (40:10):
You know what, they'll finally play when the Lakers and
the Mavericks square off later next month.
Speaker 1 (40:15):
Luca will play when the super Bowl is over. Okay,
the super bowls over. I mean it when we come
on the air Monday night, Luca playing his first game
as a Laker, are we even going to talk about
the Super Bowl? We will not. We're gonna have Lucas
as our super Bowl. I mean, come on, man, how
much super Bowl are we going to talk about for
a regular season game? Just how big? This is the
biggest trade regular season game this is the biggest trade
(40:38):
in sports we have. I mean, it's a bad game, Smoky,
I get it. It's the biggest most shocking sports story
since Andrew Luck retired. Yeah, but that but that's it.
The story was the trade. He actually shows up crowning them.
I think the officials from the Super Bowl are going
(40:58):
to actually come call the Laker game on myday night.
So I expect to see a steady uh O parade
of the free throw line. Did you guys read that
article I sent to you before that based on the
new criteria for the officials, two of these guys wouldn't
have a year ago. Yeah? How great is that? Yeah,
that's great. That's good. It's ready for your super Bowl
on Sunday. Uh So again, Lebron is in, he's here,
(41:19):
he's excited. Lakers, Lakers. Yeah, he was never going anywhere.
Coming up next, it was a big night for awards
in the NFL. Did they get it right about that?
That's next, Chason and Mike Fox
