Maybe the braves are tanking for arch Manning. Could be rays,
couldn't be tanking for arch Manning.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
It's a bold Proposition's Kirk Cousins got any throws ready for?
Speaker 4 (01:04):
Can he come out of the pen?
Speaker 1 (01:06):
Uh? Oh, that's a good, good question.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
Find some used for him, because otherwise he's on moth
balls in these days where but yeah runs uh spars
for the visitors.
Speaker 1 (01:16):
Tonight, Oh, the Braves are about to go zero and five,
the Dodgers with a six nothing lead over Atlanta. The
Dodgers about to go to six and I mean really
one hundred and ten wins for the Dodgers. What we
say the overrun hundred and ten? I mean have to
it was.
Speaker 4 (01:30):
On three and a half or one hundred and four
and a half.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
By the way, I wanted to give you your you know,
love for the the English language. You got the word
dallians in I did. I like, dare I dare you
to find another sports radio talk show that dares you
such a dare you dighte phraseology?
Speaker 1 (01:49):
Uh so yeah, I mean look, one hundred and ten
with maybe one hundred and twelve now for the Dodge
I mean really, it's like they're winning without even trying.
You know. It's like, yeah, we're not We're not even
out there. Freddie Freeman got hurt. I had a shower accident,
and so he's hurt tonight he's out there. If it
doesn't matter, the Dodgers still just win, it doesn't they
just go I mean it doesn't matter. I mean really,
one hundred and twelve hundred and fifteen wins me. Oh
(02:11):
my goodness.
Speaker 3 (02:12):
I mean I don't know, but I showed you guys
earlier where where it's at. If you want to get it,
just into the stadium, right. So the Cubs come to
town next weekend schedule is kind of cleaner for the
kids and me more than normal. So it's like, hey,
maybe we could get to a game. I can go
booed the Cubs. I can go have a giant you know,
nacho helmet or whatever the case may be.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
And the last row with fees was seventy five bucks.
Now I haven't paid to park yet, but that's the
last row. And as Frostburg so astutely pointed out, that's
the price of greatness.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
Yeah it is. It's a good line. Bought this for years.
How great is to go to an Angels game? Because
you could basically park right next to the row you
sit in. They bring you sandwiches, the people, Hey, can
I help you with stuff?
Speaker 2 (02:55):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (02:55):
Okay, I mean you want you want a great ballpark experience,
it's going to the Angels. But you watch the Angels,
you know you got you gotta Dodger stated, you watch
the Dodgers, you know you get you get helmet notches.
You watch the Dodgers, I mean you get them full on.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
I mean, look at the Angels game, you're more most
likely gonna have a giveaway that day.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
Uh yeah, I think so.
Speaker 4 (03:16):
You don't know what it is. I mean, they got
a couple of cool things coming.
Speaker 3 (03:19):
They got the big A with the giant millennium falcon
over the top of it.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
Eighty one home games, eighty one giveaways. That's gonna be
their slogan for the rest. Eighty one home games, eighty
one giveaways. My favorite, every single.
Speaker 3 (03:29):
Time, favorite baseball question I was asked this week though
it comes from my dad. Uh, they're down in Clearwater, Florida,
so near near Tampa and obviously home of the Rays.
Speaker 4 (03:39):
Goes, Who the hell's going to any of these games?
Speaker 3 (03:42):
Once we hit in June, it's gonna rain all month
and then it's gonna be one hundred and forty five
degrees the rest of the season.
Speaker 1 (03:49):
Yeah, that's good, Wit too. That's gonna be tough. That's good.
That's gonna be a tough ticket man. Who is who
do you think is gonna have better attendance the Rays
there or the or the A's in Sacramento. Hey, yeah,
you know what, You're probably right. I know, by the way,
big props of the Ace tonight. They're all wearing number
twenty four tonight in honor of Ricky Henderson. Uh, pretty
(04:09):
cool thing. And I told you, don't be surprised if
the A's contend for a while. Man, the A's have
a pretty good young team. They locked up a couple
of really good young players before the season starts. We
did our we did our preview, We did our preview.
The other night. We talked about mlbpre Don't be surprised
the division is terrible, right, don't be surprised they hang
around there in the in the in the Al West,
(04:30):
because you know, they got a great closer. They got
a couple of guys can really mash. They're young. Ah,
maybe maybe they start to they can hang around five
hundred for a while.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
So is he always gonna be Laurence or are we
gonna start calling him Larry Butler?
Speaker 1 (04:44):
Uh? LB, LB is just gonna be LB ALB.
Speaker 4 (04:47):
That sounds like I'm gonna ask him stock advice.
Speaker 1 (04:49):
Yeah, LB, Yeah, because I keep thinking that. I keep
thinking of Billy Butler, right, who played with the.
Speaker 5 (04:54):
Billy Butler aweso Billy Butler.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
Yeah, that's just Dodger, great Billy Butler. And then I
jumped from Billy Butler Bob Hamelin for some reason. I
don't know.
Speaker 4 (05:01):
A bullet Bob, get it done.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
He was Rookie of the year, wasn't he?
Speaker 4 (05:05):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (05:06):
He was nineteen ninety five, memory serves.
Speaker 1 (05:10):
Okay, all right, let's see if you're right about bullet
Bob Hammel. Let's say Bob hammelin Bob hammelin Wikipedia page.
He Rookie of the Year in nineteen ninety four, very good,
four off year.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
I thought he was a decade behind Azzie Gian But
that was so who's ninety five?
Speaker 5 (05:32):
Now?
Speaker 4 (05:33):
I was obsessed.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
I don't know. It's not Bob Hamelin. It's not I
won if it was me, it's Todd Hunley.
Speaker 4 (05:40):
Sure it was not.
Speaker 1 (05:42):
League Rookie of the Year nineteen ninety five. It was
Marty Cordova of the Twins.
Speaker 3 (05:50):
Marty, Yeah, Marty Grandova, Marty cordon alongside hit A Onomo.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
So there you go, there you go.
Speaker 4 (05:56):
So, and that's one to grow on exactly.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
No, No, We'll just think how Bob Hamlon would have
been if he had the torpedo bat oh godh he
would have been so good. So we just watched the
final four get shaken out for both the men's and
the women's over the course of this weekend. Right, four
number one seeds in the men's tournament led by Duke
and now here. Women's tournament tonight, Paige Becker's and Yukon.
(06:20):
She had some big shots late when it looked like
US was chipping away at the lead, Yukon back in
the final four. And for the second year in a row, Right,
this is just this is just me. But for the
second year in a row. If you said to me,
I could watch the men's final four or the women's
final four, only what would I pick? I would pick
(06:42):
the women's final four. I'd picked the women's final four.
You have four great teams in college basketball, right, four
great teams. The average college basketball fan knows nobody who's
who's in the men's tournament outside of Cooper Flag Right, No, no, no,
anybody else A plays for Houston or AUBURNA. No, nobody knows. Right,
But you have four great teams. But the women's tournament
(07:04):
has the storylines. It's it's Page Becker's and Gino Oriema
trying to get back to win. It's down Staley in
South Carolina trying to win again. And boy, I'll tell
you how much I'm all in on a Yukon South
Carolina national championship. That would really be something, right South
Carolina replacing players from last year to this year, and
(07:25):
you know, can Gino get over the hump with the
best player he's had in the last few years and
a star that he's had a kind of weird relationship
with on the court over the course of the past
few months. Like the women's game seems to have the
storylines more and mainly it has to do with a
lot of well, the players stay longer. Right, We've been
here and talking about Page Beckers for a long time,
and Gino Orion we've been talking about him as a
(07:45):
coaching Yukon for the past twenty five years. But Down
Staley's become a big, a big character in women's college basketball,
getting all the way last year and winning and beating
Caitlin Clark and winning the championship. It's a there's more
storylines in the women's game because the players are around
long and we have become a society that we are
more addicted to star players in games than we are
(08:06):
about great teams. You can sit here and tell me too,
blue in the face, Look how good Florida is. Look
how good are we? Yeah that's great. Now that that's it.
They're all great to They each have superstar players, right
sec Player of the year. You know, Look you had
Danny Hurley basically saying that we lost to a guy
who put up a Michael Jordan and Steph Curry like
performance and that knocked us out. Okay, you were in
(08:27):
an a scene, you got knocked out. It's okay. But like,
the storylines just aren't there as much as they are
in the women's game because they kind of roll from
star to star. Now, you're not gonna see the impact
of this year's turn because Paige Becker's as good as
she is, is not Caitlin Clark. But the overall interest level, Yeah,
I look at both these say if I could only
(08:48):
watch one of them, I'd watch the women's Final four
over the men's.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
Yeah, it's just that curiosity, I mean, on both sides.
Right at the end, Look, the only team to crash.
The party that wasn't a one seed in the women's
side is the Yukon squad right there, number two seed,
and that was Gino Ariema's sixteenth time taking down a
number one seed in the tournament. Just for clarification, they're
(09:12):
twenty fifteen, twenty sixteen the last time that they raised
a banner. But certainly setting up the potential of an
Oriama Staley matchup for the Crown is delicious theater, right,
given how outspoken they've been in what stars.
Speaker 4 (09:29):
They've become in their own right through the years.
Speaker 3 (09:32):
We look at the men's side, and you mentioned Cooper Flag,
we start getting back into the coaches a little bit, right.
Speaker 4 (09:39):
Here's some more video of Shire as a player. Here's
some more.
Speaker 3 (09:42):
Celebration of Calvin Samson and what he's been able to
do and trying to push through. But yeah, I think
you're right on a large scale, just from the women's side,
because there's been a lot of belly aching about Cinderella
and all. It's all coming from radio hosts. I don't
hear anybody complaining about this, yeah at all. Like my
(10:05):
timelines are not replete with oh man, it really I've
screwed because we don't have an number eight seed. No,
it's everybody telling us that they think that's what the
reaction is like. No, people are happy to get good basketball.
Sure they didn't get that extra point in their bracket
in the first round, that's a lifetime ago. At this point,
(10:26):
you got good basketball coming up. So there's not a
whole lot of complaining. But you know, we're trying to
set the story line up other than hey, here's four
teams that rate among the greatest defensive squads we've seen
in recent tournament history. You gotta tell me more than that.
Speaker 1 (10:40):
Look, the men's Final Four is a final four for
the top percentage of college basketball fans. Right, that's kind
of what it is. It's a you have four number
one seeds, and it's really impressive. Right, Duke, this is
the best team, the best duke team we've seen in years.
You have Cooper Flagg, who's a number one overall pick
in the draft. He stays if he goes, hey, that
(11:02):
that's fantastic, Right that. That that's absolutely that is indisputable
what you get out of there. But Florida and Auburn, Yeah,
they each have star players. They you know, you're talking
about the coaching pound in Houston as well, Kelvin Sampson,
it's it's it's more for the top percentage of college
basketball nuts, whereas the women's Final Four is for the
average college basketball fan. Like that that's kind of what
(11:25):
what what it more is And that doesn't mean that
it's a level of play is here. It's better, it's not.
But you know, Page Becker's you know, Oriama down Stanley
are kind of more. They're more rock star more power
than Cooper Flag Broom and Clayton, right, like, like as
good as these guys are, these are great players there,
and Broom had a bit, you know, had a big
game as well, and Clayton keeps making big shots. Like
it's fun. But the overall, the overall appeal, it's it's
(11:49):
it's more of a hey, the women's game has more
of a mass appeal and this this game is more
of a Hey, if you really like college basketball and
you watch it all year long and you watch all
of the teams, and like this kind this is your
final four with four number one seeds and guys who
are stars now that people are just learning about that
you've known about for quite a while.
Speaker 3 (12:06):
Yeah, I think there's the excitement of it, of learning.
I mean, I know one of the storylines. You also
have three Jewish head coaches in the men's games, so
you know that's a little piece to the history of
this as we're looking forward and you're trying to find
new stars and unfortunately, you know college basketball the way
(12:27):
it's been run for a while, and I know there's
a lot of hand ringing over nil and the death
of Cinderella, who only showed up once in a while. Anyway,
what do you have six or seven data points that
you're using over forty years to tell me how great
it is? Okay, so when we don't have one one year,
that's the worst thing in the world. No, it'll it'll
(12:47):
be okay. We'll all get by and we'll enjoy watching
college basketball. But a lot of it just comes back
to you know, you're looking for the build of the stories,
and as you said, you know these are players that.
Speaker 4 (13:01):
We've gotten to know.
Speaker 3 (13:01):
On the women's side, we've got coaches with the long tenders.
Take nothing away from from Samson and Bruce Pearl, who
we certainly have known forever. Todd Golden making his name,
John Shire again going back to his history, and Duke's
not hateable, right, They're not the Duke that you and
I grew up with, where it's like, ah, you heard
the mention of the name, and maybe you still do.
(13:24):
But for me, I just shrug. I think of you know,
Wojo slapping the floor. Think about all those squads that
you couldn't get rid of.
Speaker 4 (13:30):
Those guys.
Speaker 3 (13:31):
How many years of eligibility do they get because they
didn't leave Cherokee Parks and all those guys?
Speaker 4 (13:37):
Oh yeah, sure right, Whereas now.
Speaker 3 (13:39):
It's a one and done if you can. Although maybe
that changes a little bit, right because you've got the
guaranteed deals only for the first round guys in the NBA,
so maybe you got a lot, maybe you'll have more
fewer players decide to declare now they transfer portals a
whole other thing to sort out the twelve hundred players plus.
Speaker 4 (14:00):
We played a clip from.
Speaker 3 (14:01):
Don McClain, who was on with Petrison Money last last week,
and he was saying that he'd been told by some
folks he trusted as his son weighs what he's doing
at West Virginia that to be a rotational player, the
starting rate is half a million dollars in the transfer portal,
so good luck sorting out that math. In the interim page,
(14:23):
Beckers has a lot of commercials. We watched a lot
of commercials with Juju Watkins unfortunately injured before the season was.
Speaker 4 (14:32):
It came to an end for USC.
Speaker 3 (14:34):
But those are names we've gotten to know, right those
are faces we've gotten to know and programs. So this
week sell job by the NCAA Men's Tournament to try
to bring more of these guys to the forefront beyond
Cooper flag.
Speaker 1 (14:49):

Lakers holding on to a one hundred ninety eight lead
right now over the Rockets, thirteen seconds left to go,
Lakers will be shooting free throws. Not a marquee night
for the Lakers, but again doing just enough. Lebron fourteen

Okay, all right, Vergos, double.
Speaker 4 (17:55):
Check anytime you get the one dog into a show
though you won.
Speaker 1 (17:59):
Yeah, sure, And well look at also, I mean because
we may never get to you know, to to say this,
you know, ever again, because you know how the baseball
season goes and everything. Uh. The Chicago White Sox are
a half game out of first place right now in
the Al Central. You are a half game out of
first place.
Speaker 5 (18:13):
They are better than the Mets.
Speaker 1 (18:15):
Uh. They're the same record as the Mets, same record,
worst divisions, But.
Speaker 5 (18:19):
They would beats had to head.
Speaker 1 (18:20):
Uh No, I don't think that would happen. You're so
unrealistic when it comes like like you're your meds. You're unrealistic.
Speaker 5 (18:28):
Like the Met's making the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (18:29):
You talk about the Mets like they're not a great team.
They're not just last year. Okay, okay, uh, look, the
Braves are terrible you keep playing the.
Speaker 5 (18:38):
Braves right, and they'll still win the least.
Speaker 1 (18:41):
Just keep beating the Braves. They're about to go to
to five. Uh like to understand. Just give the Mets
some respect because you know they're that's not going to happen.
You sound bad, then you sound bad? You sound bad?
Speaker 5 (18:50):
Really?
Speaker 1 (18:51):
Yeah, you sound like a hater. You said sound like
a hater. I mean, I know.
Speaker 5 (18:54):
You sound like you got to earn respect.
Speaker 1 (19:00):
Okay, we were in the NLCS last year. We signed
one Sodo. Everything is fun.
Speaker 5 (19:03):
That was last year.
Speaker 1 (19:04):
Yeah, okay, well and we got Soto this year. What
else do you want? We were four games into the season.
Speaker 5 (19:10):
How do you do with two men on two outs?
Bottom nine? Top nine?
Speaker 1 (19:14):
He was He's been great.
Speaker 5 (19:16):
He's still standing there.
Speaker 1 (19:17):
He's been great, except for that one.
Speaker 5 (19:19):
Hundred million dollars to stay on there. I wish I
got that deal.
Speaker 1 (19:22):
He's got an ops of one and a half. What
else do you want from the guy? Yeah? I wanted.
I wanted a home run of the ninth inning against
Hater two. But it didn't happen. So it's okay. Hit
over the next time.
Speaker 5 (19:29):
Contract should have happened.
Speaker 1 (19:31):
It should have maybe now We'll start using torpedo bats
and then look what's gonna happen. All right, let's go
to one. Elle Da Lacruz went to a torpedo back tonight.
What do you have? Eight hits twelve RBIs do you
have one of those?
Speaker 6 (19:41):
Er?
Speaker 4 (19:43):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (19:43):
Man, Yes, another game, another star with a big night
using the torpedo bat, the bat that is going to
rip the world apart at the seams, the bat that
the Avengers will be fighting against. An Avengers Doomsday. They
will team up with Doctor to fight against the torpedo bats. Oh,
I like you. That's a new plot. Oh, by the way,
(20:05):
how about they just released a new title, new spider
Man movie. We had spider Man Breaking News tonight, spider
Man's Spider Mans.
Speaker 4 (20:12):
What they come up with?
Speaker 1 (20:13):
Spider Man Brand New Day? Which which oh sing gonna
do the theme song? I think?
Speaker 7 (20:19):
So?
Speaker 1 (20:20):
No, isn't that you too? Brand New Day? It's that's
beautiful day.
Speaker 8 (20:22):
It's started with the Yeah, the spider Man Brand New
Day hits right after Doomsday, so I think Doomsday goes
right into Brand New Day.
Speaker 1 (20:34):
Spider Man Breaking News, spider Man, spider Man, He's spider
Man Breaking news. Spider Man spider, So another day and
another you know, look, the the the torpedo bats have
gotten all sorts of attention over the course of last
three days. And honestly, when I was off the end
(20:55):
of last week and of the weekend, I'm like, man,
I wish I was on the air to talk about
these torpedo bats because my dad just keeps sending me
home run after home run after home run. God, what
are you gonna do? What do you do? What are
you gonna do? And it was it's such a great story, right,
I mean, this, this torpedo bat thing has taken the
sports world by storm, and there's nothing illegal about it. Oh,
(21:16):
by the way, I love the fact that that's the
first thing everybody went to nothing illegal, nothing illegal, So
you know there's nothing illegal. Nothing. The Yankees are hitting
all these but nothing illegal. Every story is nothing illegal.
Just want you know there's nothing about nothing illegal, nothing illegal. Wait,
these special bats the Yankees. Yes, I know where your
mind is going. Nothing illegal, nothing illegal. These bats are
absolutely fine. Look, it's a great thing that that an
(21:39):
Mit Grant came up with a while ago. Teams have
started using them a little bit. Some players are using
the bats a little bit last year, but obviously the
Yankees and the day they had against Nestor Cortes clearly
jumped that to the forefront. Now Nestor Cortez, who, of course,
the last time we saw him pitching was giving up
a grand slam, walk off grand slam to Freddie Freeman
in Game one of the World Series. So it's gotten
(22:01):
a lot of attention. Obviously, the Yankees are going to
make this attention go. And this is where this is
a win win story for all of us, right, and
believe it or not, this is a win win story
for all of us because it's a story that is
gonna be fun. Your team is gonna start using torpedo bats.
It's not like the Yankees are the only ones that
can use torpedo bats. They've not gotten the mit guy
(22:21):
on their payroll only and he only works for them, right,
This is not when Billy Bean bought Peter Brand from
the from the from the Indians and Moneyball, Right, anybody
can use them, right, at least the guy said, hey,
I got a lot of orders coming. Everybody wants them,
so okay, every time you got the torpedo bats, and
the torpedo bats are built a little bit thicker in
the barrel, and it's described as the best way because
(22:43):
they're thicker in the barrel and they're a little bit
less thick off the top. It turns near misses into flares,
and it turns flares into barrels and barrels into home runs. Right,
You're you're extend expanding the area that you could hit
the ball with. Right. So of course we've seen players
at home runs and you know, Ellie de la Cruz
using a torpedo back tonight, had an incredible night. The
Yankees keep pitting home runs with him. Everybody's gonna use them.
(23:06):
Everyone's gonna use them. So it's okay, there's no real
advantage the Yankees are gonna have outside of them using
them before everybody else. So okay, well I give them
credit because again, nothing was illegal. Everything is fine. Everyone's
gonna start using them and it's gonna be a big
story for a while, and we'll spotlight when guys hit
home runs and use a torpedo bat. Here's a three
home run night by by this guy. Because it's impossible
(23:28):
to underto to not think that and not understand that, yes,
when you have a bat that you have a greater
chance of hitting it squarer. Because you've increased that part
of the bat. You're gonna be a better player. You're
gonna hit balls went back, because the difference between you know,
popping up and hitting a ball off the wall is
a fraction of an inch, Right, it's a quarter of
an inch or an eighth of an inch sometimes like
(23:50):
that's what it is. Oh, here's a here's a huge
moonshot fly out to right field, and here's one off
of the off of the second deck. Right that. That's
kind of how it is. So every's gonna to use them,
and it's gonna be fine. And eventually the big hoopla
over this will die down and players will have inflated
stats this year. But everybody's gonna get to use it
(24:11):
and it's great. And the other part of this is
I can still tell my dad and all my Yankee friends, yeah,
you're just cheating, And even though I don't believe it,
saying that just upsets them so much, Like because all
the all the big Yankee apologists who are now going
crazy over this and say, oh, we're not doing anything bad.
We're doing X, Y and Z and everybody else can
do it. No, it's still fun to just say, yeah,
you're cheating, you're using you're using bats and nobody else uses.
(24:33):
Even though I know that's not the case, it's still
fun just to have that because I love driving Yankee
fans crazy. I did it with Fabiano this week on
the on on Twitter, and it was awesome. Right, Hey,
maybe Judge could have used a torpedo glove and I
sent him that big giff that Frostburg you sent me
earlier today of the big glove on on Judge's hand, right.
Speaker 5 (24:51):
And how great is that?
Speaker 6 (24:51):
It's like the glove in the outfield where the San
Francisco Giants play.
Speaker 1 (24:55):
Yeah, yes, I mean it's such a great thing because
you could just you can just drive Yankee fans crazy
by saying, yeah, legal bats, that's what's going on. Oh
it's not illegal. I meanwhile, I know it's not, but
it's still so much fun because you watch them go crazy.
So it's a win win situation. Your team will get
to use the bats, it's gonna be good. But you
can still say cheating Yankees. It's kind of fun.
Speaker 3 (25:14):
I think there are more searches into the Major League
Baseball rule Book than there have been in a.
Speaker 4 (25:19):
While, which is great.
Speaker 3 (25:20):
Let's all learn about the specifications of bets and what's there.
Guess what not all the lot So immediately there's gotta
be parts and caveat it out right, there's gotta be
adendyms to this.
Speaker 4 (25:33):
No, there's not, there's not. It's okay for the Yankees.
Speaker 3 (25:37):
Short lived first move or advantage before the trucks of
bats start showing up all across Major League Baseball, and
any advantage other than the fact that they have a
high price payroll and big sluggers gets neutralized. Still got
to pitch, Still, gotta make a pitch and not hit,
you know, the better elongated spot of the bat. Right,
(26:01):
But it's all about movement anyway in Major League Baseball.
So slight advantage back to the batters. But it's gonna
come back to pitching, pitching wins, and we'll we'll watch
out players adopt it and which guys just issue it
all together, right, Aaron Judge and others just going, I
got a good thing going, This would be great. I'm
(26:22):
not doing it until their their bat suddenly doesn't work
for a couple of weeks and they go into a
major slump. Then suddenly they walk out with the whiffle bat.
You give a three year old, So that's good.
Speaker 1 (26:33):
Oh yeah, that's gonna be. That's gonna be the question.
Do you think you should go to a bat? You're
zero for nine. Do you think you should go to
a torpedo bit? You're one for thirteen. Do you try
the torpedo bat? Will you try that? Will you try it?
Speaker 4 (26:43):
But that's just it.
Speaker 3 (26:43):
I can't wait to hear the the first time a
guy responds and he's salty about it.
Speaker 5 (26:48):
No, man, you guys are in luck.
Speaker 1 (26:51):
Well yeah, why is that?
Speaker 6 (26:52):
Because when it comes to torpedo bats, I'm able to
look into the future.
Speaker 1 (26:57):
Oh okay, what can you see?
Speaker 5 (26:59):
You're is how it would sound if Juan Soto use
a torpedo.
Speaker 3 (27:03):
Bat that way when you will run from first, Soto
chases a slaughter stripe three, and they asked DROs beef
for mats.
Speaker 1 (27:13):
Wow. Yeah, even with a torpedo bat, he wouldn't have
hit that one. You would not have hit that not
check he was three and oh on that count too,
and they would have put the bases loaded for Alonzo
and he swings at that pitch. Uh, but uh, it
doesn't matter, It doesn't matter. Everything is fine. Mets are
two and two, Alonzo hit a grand Slam tonight. Everything
is fine.
Speaker 4 (27:30):
I keep telling yourself.
Speaker 3 (27:31):
I think your blood pressure right now, if we took it,
or we put you on a lie detector test like
they do an NYPD blue, you might get the needle.
Speaker 1 (27:39):
Well, I can't tell, because you know, I'm not feeling great,
Like I came back from my little mini holiday with
a with a cold. I'm like, am I getting a fever?
Or am I just mad that Frostbur keeps doing this
about the Torpedo Bat and the Mets, like I can't tell.
I can't tell what it is.
Speaker 4 (27:52):
And then you got a fever.
Speaker 1 (27:53):
I can't tell. I want a player to say, oh yeah, yeah,
what what can you what can you attribute your your
great year too? I mean you're here, you are at
the All Star break with with thirty home runs and
ninety four RBI, you're hitting three seventy five, Like, what
is it? Well, it's torpedo Bat and I am back
on some great steroids. Man. We brought everything back, all
the illegal stuff. Yeah, we're taking greenies. We got the
(28:15):
torpedo bats, I got steroids, I everything, man, it's awesome. Yeah,
that's why. Look look at me, Look at me, Look
at That's why. That's why I'm thirty ninety five, three
seventy five good with a triple crown, because I got
all of them. I brought everything back, all the bad things,
and in baseball, I brought back this is great.
Speaker 6 (28:31):
At what point do they start, these guys that are
using them to start carrying them around like Serrano does
his bat and stuff.
Speaker 1 (28:36):
Oh yeah, yeah, like like and they carry him around
in the in what looks like a guitar case. They
carry the bats around.
Speaker 5 (28:44):
Oh I'm talking like sits in the front seat, like.
Speaker 1 (28:48):
Wearing a.
Speaker 4 (28:50):
Seat belt.
Speaker 1 (28:51):
Yeah yeah, put the seatbelt over, make sure the bat
doesn't go. Oh sure, yeah. I mean if this is
how it is, I mean I think it's great.
Speaker 3 (28:58):
I think you know part of your your logic of
the Hey, just bring back all of it and people
can get the super serum. And I don't think jerks
in Profar got the memo.
Speaker 1 (29:09):
Oh yeah, yeah. Yeah. It's gotta be stuff that's got
a big denial. It's gotta be stuff you can't detect.
That's the Yeah, gotta build it's like this.
Speaker 4 (29:16):
You gotta build the better, bigger mouse trap.
Speaker 1 (29:19):
What if you built a bat? What if you built
a bat that was just incredibly thick from the handle
all the way to where the sweet spot starts, and
then it was just a toothpick the rest of the way, Like,
how would like could you do that? Like? Could would
that be a great thing? I'm getting a sweet part
of the barrel even that you jam me, I'm gonna
get a great part of the barrel on it.
Speaker 4 (29:37):
Well yeah, I mean, look, it's all about four sid.
Speaker 1 (29:41):
Like dumble door. It looked like Dumbledore's wand yeah, yeah
it's out a little bit out, it's out. Yeah, I
want to see about that.
Speaker 3 (29:48):
Can you do a bunch of carvings in it too?
I mean oh yeah, there's no rules. Yeah yeah, yeah,
And it was all about length and yeah.
Speaker 1 (29:56):
You put hieroglyphics in there. Oh yeah, this is what happened.
And then you know this, We used hunt bear and
then we would we would we would get the bear rugs,
and then we went out we invented fire.
Speaker 3 (30:04):
Well what's this line saying? It says this was my
third home run of this series. Yeah, because these dopes
don't know how to pitch me.
Speaker 1 (30:13):
Oh, I'm telling you man, it's gonna be at It's
gonna be a great story and then we're going to
forget about it. But it's going to be hot for
a few weeks and that's awesome. Uh. Time not to
find out what's trending in the wide world of sports
from special Deliffery Steve to Sager, who has his own
order for torpedo microphones ready to come in. Wait, do
you hear how he sounds with a torpedo microphone when
(30:33):
he gets him in later next week?
Speaker 7 (30:36):
I'm curious about that. In fact, it was referenced when
the Dodgers said that they're going to order some of
these bets some of the players and test them. They
were referred to as torpedo curious. The Dodgers are now
six and zero. They just beaten the Atlanta Braves six
to one. Tyler Glasnow and his first outing since last August,
had five scoreless innings eight strikeouts the Braves zero and five.
(30:59):
The Ray scored no runs in their last twenty two
innings in San Diego over the weekend, and no runs
in their first seven innings of this game tonight. A
lot of runs for the Cubs in Sacramento this evening,
leading the As sixteen to three at the seventh inning stretch,
Tiger's holding on nine to six at Seattle in the
bottom of the ninth. Detroit scored six times in the
(31:20):
top of the first inning, and the Padres, for the
first time ever, have started five and Oh beat Cleveland
seven to two. Manny Machado three hits, San Francisco and
Toronto with wins angels in ten innings, won five to
four at Saint Louis, which had been three and Oh.
Mike trouted the Halo's two sacrifice flies. He has won
for thirteen at the plate this year. And then there's
Boston dh Rafael Devers oh for three today, three more
(31:43):
strikeouts and two walks. At Baltimore, the O's beat Boston
eight to five. Red Sox record one in four at
the plate. Devers is oh for nineteen with fifteen strikeouts.
The Red Sox are giving lefty pitcher Garrett Crochet a
six year extension. The White Sox show out the Twins
today nine nothing. White Sox led nine Zip in the
third inning with three early home runs. The Twins offense
(32:06):
went two for thirty with thirteen k's.
Speaker 1 (32:09):
I asked you this, Steve to say her, what team
has allowed the fewest runs in Major League Baseball so.
Speaker 7 (32:13):
Far this season is the answer to the Mets.
Speaker 1 (32:16):
The Chicago White Sox. Yes, oh that's right, because allowed.
Speaker 5 (32:22):
That's right.
Speaker 4 (32:22):
We're visiting, by the way.
Speaker 7 (32:24):
Did you see that rain delay that they head over
the weekend.
Speaker 4 (32:26):
Yeah, tarp was great.
Speaker 5 (32:28):
The tarp didn't make it over first base.
Speaker 4 (32:30):
Yeah, and it got so wet in money.
Speaker 7 (32:32):
They thought, I'm not sure we're gonna be able to continue.
Speaker 6 (32:35):
This game after a couple hours of rado white hotly
to their defense, Steve, they usually don't make it past
first base.
Speaker 1 (32:42):
We only need to cover first base. The rest of
the field doesn't matter because maybe we'll get a walk
or a hit by pitch. But the other bases we
haven't seen them in years.
Speaker 4 (32:49):
Then you own hell.
Speaker 7 (32:50):
Eventually, as the rains kept coming down, it looked like
they stitched together some people's jackets section two O four
to put it over the first.
Speaker 4 (32:59):
Bat code of many colors that my mama made for me.
Speaker 7 (33:02):
Exactly that type of thing. Joseph would have been proud anyway.
Minnesota ISZHO and four after getting shot out at Chicago
and Milwaukee's zho and four After losing at home eleven
to one to Kansas City Brewers, pitcher Aaron Savali goes
on the io with a strained hamstring. The late NBA
game went to the Lakers beating Houston one oh four
ninety eight.
Speaker 5 (33:21):
They're back.
Speaker 7 (33:21):
Steve wins to Brooklyn and Indiana Oklahoma City one. It's
ten straight. Boston won, it's ninth in a row. Texas
is back. I think that gets said for any sport
in their athletic department. Texas is onto the women's final
four Friday. They'll face South Carolina after Texas eliminated TCU
tonight in a regional final fifty eight forty seven. TCU
(33:42):
shot twenty seven percent from the floor with twenty one turnovers.
The late game Friday, we'll have UCLA against Connecticut. Yukon
at thirty five and three eliminated USC seventy eight to
sixty four. Page Beckers with thirty one points. She had
scored forty in her previous game. And I don't know
if you heard s he is without injured star Juju
Watkins for the year. Oh Notre Dame's Olivia Miles will
(34:05):
reportedly trying to say.
Speaker 1 (34:06):
It just like that. Anytime you say USC, it's USC
without Juju Watkins.
Speaker 7 (34:11):
Yeah, it's all a run on sentence. Actually, everything's final
in the NHL. Stars have just taken the late game
three to one at Seattle, and Stanford's innerim football coach
is frank Reich.
Speaker 1 (34:22):

Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific, Fox.
Speaker 1 (35:44):
Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmon. Mom jump up livetheti rack dot com studios
where the uh the NFL owners meetings. There are league's
annual meetings going on right now, and we got great
big statements from owners and head coaches today the NFL understanding. Okay,
(36:04):
it's been a couple of weeks here since we're talked
about let's make sure we say some stuff and give
people content. Stepping into that void is Brown's owner Jimmy Haslam,
who said the quiet part out loud, saying today that
the trade for Deshaun Watson was quote a big swing
and miss. We took a big swing and miss with DeShawn.
(36:26):
Hasselm said, quote we thought we had the quarterback. We didn't,
and we gave up a lot of draft picks to
get him. So we got to dig ourselves out of
that hole. The trade was an entire organization decision, and
it ends with D and I, So hold us accountable. Okay,
the first thing I want to say is this. It's
great when you hear people admit they did something wrong.
But I wanted to this, Oh, hold D and I
(36:48):
his wife that both Jimmy and d Hassselm are the
owners of the Browns. Uh Uh? Who else were they
gonna hold responsible? Was there somebody else people are holding
responsible for this? I don't think there was anybody. I
think everybody was blaming them any So it's like we
want the blame for stuff who were getting anyway. No,
it's like a freebie. You don't get that. You know,
you're you're not maybe few k from arrest. Development Oh
that was a freebie. No, no, no, no, you're getting
(37:09):
blamed anyway, because you made one of the worst decisions
that a sports team has made in the last twenty years.
You didn't just sign the wrong guy. You traded away
three first round picks for him. Yeah, and you traded
for a guy that didn't want to be there, and
you decided we're gonna overwhelm you with money and you're
gonna want to go there right Because what was the
(37:29):
story when we're waiting for Deshaun Watson to sign The
Browns were out right, it was Atlanta, it was a
couple of teams. And also the next day Browns, why, hey,
we're gonna guarantee you all the two hundred thirty five
million dollars. Oh, I'm gonna go there right away. Could
you say was that the right thing? Because a guy
who didn't want to go there, but you guaranteed him
this money, suddenly I'm changing. How motivated is he going
to be? I'm getting paid. I didn't want to be here,
(37:51):
so it doesn't matter. And look how bad he's been
and injured and how bad. Of course this is. You
have to own this. This is not just hey, a
big swing and miss, like I get that, we'd like
that when when people say they're sorry, we kind of
that takes the temperature of the room down a little bit.
But this is one of those things that you've ruined
the franchise for what could be ten years. You're wrong
for the last few years on to Sean Watson, and
(38:13):
now you don't have the first round picks that you
need to build your team going forward. Now you gotta
hope you get lucky with the number two pick and
you get to the quarterback there. Maybe cam Ward's gonna
be there. Maybe you have to jump and take your
door Sanders. But like I mean, like you want credit
for something that that, Yeah, you got to own this,
that this wasn't just hey swinging to miss this was
I realized that I set the franchise on what could
(38:34):
be a decade long run of bad because of this decision. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (38:39):
I don't know how much more you can say or
whether you needed to really address it and do the
miacoalplay here now unless you're setting it up for your
next failure. Say hey, IOK, I took a lot of
the onus on this one. Several years later, I would
have gone to the wall saying, hey, we made the.
Speaker 4 (38:55):
Playoffs with him on this roster. Look at how.
Speaker 3 (38:58):
Smart we were with everything else. You want to get
me for this one move, Jason Smith. I look at
what Andrew Berry and everybody else did here to get
us to the playoffs, and we resigned Miles Garrett. Did
we tell you we resigned Miles Garrett? I'd be pointing
out everything I did about a positive nature, because if
(39:18):
you're a Cleveland Browns fan, those are few and far between,
and I wouldn't work those for every bit I could.
Speaker 1 (39:25):
We brought back a lot of guys from last year
that got us to three and fourteen. Just so you know,
we brought all those guys back, those three and fourty
We brought them all back. This is the thing, and
this is what sub owners don't get about quarterbacks and
about teams. We're gonna get into this with another team
coming up in about ten minutes, is that if you're
building a team around every other position, but you're gonna
(39:47):
try to get by with the quarterback, you're not gonna win. Right.
That means you, Pittsburgh Steelers, You're not gonna win because
it's the most important position. Now, Conversely, a team with
a great quarterback that you have to fill in positions
around you win super bowls. That's what the the Patriots did,
That's what the New England Peyton, That's what the Kansaity
Chiefs have done. You have the quarterback. Everything else you
(40:10):
can for the quarterback will cover so many ills for
you. You can load up the rest of your team, but
the guy who handles the ball in every play has
to be your number one priority. So I see teams
like this going, we're not making the quarterback a priority,
scratch scratch you from winning and has them even said,
we're not locked into a quarterback at number two. We
want to just get as many good football players as
we can. So okay, so you're gonna suck again because boy,
(40:30):
we have the rest of the team, we just don't
have a quarterback.
Speaker 3 (40:32):
Hey, they have a defending Super Bowl champion as their quarterback,
and Kenny Pickett.
Speaker 1 (40:37):
They do they do. They did get him.
Speaker 3 (40:39):
You're right, Joe, I can sell it that way. This
guy helped them win a Super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (40:43):
In his tiny baby hands. He actually got run in
the Super Bowl. He actually he was instrumental. He actually
did get to play. Yeah, not about that. You're right,
you're right, But that's what I don't get with teams
like the Brent when they okay, we do this, but
it does Just because you got you got burned by
this quarterback doesn't mean okay, let's let's back off before
you go get another guy. No, you gotta go back
in and get on that and go get that quarterback.
Speaker 4 (41:04):
Double down.
Speaker 1 (41:05):
Speaking of quarterbacks, whoa, we got another great story for you. Next,
Jason and Mike Fox
