You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Hey, Happy Hour three,
The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon. Hey,
Live from the Fox Sports or Radio studios. Well, all
TRAFFICA looks like it's gonna finish. It's gonna wind up
(00:43):
being an l A f C win over the Galaxy
three two and the minute, and that looks like that's
gonna be in all kinds of excitement. We almost had
Tyler Anderson in a brawl at home played against the Cubs.
Los Angeles, the center of this boarding world right now
as we continue on, and that's highlight is gonna come
(01:04):
up over and over and over again. The Cubs leading
the Dodgers right now three to one, and Anderson not
happy play coming down at home plate pushed the runner
down as he was trying to score. Yeah not some
uh not some good blood going on right now between
the Cubs and the Dodgers. Might let's get it on
Cubs A desperate team struggling would be the nice way
(01:25):
to put it. I don't know if there are any
worse off than the White Sox. Who the fire, Tony
Chance or beginning? And I'm seeing all the scribes in
Chicago putting up the poll question, have you ever been
more disappointed at a team in your life? I don't know.
Bring in the Bears fans. They might have a season
(01:46):
or two they'd like to talk about, but but certainly
at thirty four and forty nine and no hope. Uh,
you're you're trying to at least have a good showing
out here in Los Angeles for all the transplants and
right now acquitting themselves. Well here in the seventh that
showed a little bit of fight. Look, maybe that's how
you turn things around, or maybe that's an audition I
have the toughest you need to join your staff. Well look,
(02:09):
let me let me just let me just tell you
what did I say when when Tony LaRussa had the
intentional walk to trade Turner, he just hastened his firing,
and look at what's going on right now. How long
is he really gonna make it until he gets fired?
He would have had much more time. But when you
do something like that, you turn everybody against you. How
much longer can he really have? He just moved up
(02:30):
his firing by months. Yeah, no, I throw that one
out because there's another thirty seven incidents that didn't make
national news that I have enumerated in a giant blog
post to come when it finally happens. Look, it's a disaster.
You've got guys, and even you know, an All star
in Tim Anderson, right, He's had an uneven year, been
great at the plate, in the field at times, absolutely lost,
(02:54):
rumors about his private life, whatever. But you've had him
the other day where swinging third strike ball got away
from the catcher, made no attempt to even pretend like
he was going to turn towards first base and run,
just turned back to the dugout. That's indicative, well, I mean,
it's indicative of where we're at in the season. And
(03:14):
there's been a lot of moments like that for the
White Sox. Uh. Look, a couple of players who are
really putting up a great effort making a name. But
you know, between the injuries and Larussa's bullpen management and
just the effort, whenever you have to question a team's effort,
you know what's really gone to hell. So I'm waiting
for the tell all book of what's happened here these
(03:35):
last couple of months, beyond the intentional Walk. That might
be the name of the book, the walk. Like everything
you didn't know about the White Side, it's beyond the
intentional walk. What if I told you there was like
a thousand other things people were piste off about. It's
brought It's brought to you by the ghost of Rod
(03:56):
sterling Ah and the Army and Valvoline. We all think
you can uh the Jason Smith's with Mike Carmen live
from the Fox Sports Radio Studios on a very special
Love and Thunder Friday night. Let me say this because
we talked about a little bit before. I saved save
some some some some content here for you know, somebody
(04:17):
did say, you know, earlier whatever, earlier in the week,
what happened to the slide over baby our. It's not
the loved Friday. I forget red Wine Friday. I'm love
and Harmon's Thunder. That's how it's gonna go. Uh, I
told you Love and Thunder was fun, right, The music
was fun. Look, four movies are fun. Now ticoy TD
(04:38):
knows is it going to be something that that breaks
the the Internet and suddenly Marvel Phase four is in
a completely new direction now. But it was fun. It's
a movie you'll talk about right after you see it
because there was a lot of fun stuff too. What
the music is really good. And I gotta say this,
and I'm I'm not not trying to oversell it. Christian
Bale is fantastic. He is unb leievable. He might be
(05:01):
the best Marvel villain that we've seen. Actually, the acting
part of it, like in a in a in a
in a movie like not not the not the scope
of Thanos and because you know, look Santos is just
takes on this incredible um aura. But as far as
acting goes, I mean, you you think the best villains
are Tom Hittleston and now it's Christian Bale. Because he's
in the first five minutes of this movie. You go wow,
(05:24):
I mean you've not seen You're not seen an acting
performance by a villain like this. He is fantastic, and
he's scared. Name, yes, Commissioner Gordon, what's happening here? Then
he puts on the Batman mask and he turns into
Batman all over. He is terrific. But I would say
Love and Thunder probably the fifth best thing in phase
(05:47):
four because in the four the four really go. Look,
spider Man, No Way Home might be one of the
top three Marvel movies of all time. Spider Man, Spider Man,
Spider Man, Look what you've inspired? Spider Man. I got
Frostburg saying Spider Man as fighter Man, Uh, no Way Home?
Wand Division Uh, Hawkeye and Black Widow. Right, those are
(06:08):
four really good things. But Puck Eyes Eyes they Hawk
in San Francisco. Remember you know Rogers the musical, you know,
you know we see that, but we did. It's it's
been like, look, that's where Love and Thunder is. Phase
four overall for Marvel has been really spotty and really
(06:30):
hit and miss. And so it makes me think that
do they really have a great idea where this is
gonna go? Yes, it's hard to come and and and
and when you're coming off of end game, all right,
how do you make anything bigger? So I get that.
But there's really been hits and miss It really has
been up and down where you've had really good content
and then you have stuff like Okay, there's the Eternals
(06:52):
and then there's Falcon and Winter Soldier and what purpose
does this proven? It? Just like, yeah, it was fun
at points, but yeah, because I'm like, wait, so what
opened the time for Wait? So without Loki opened to
change the timelines when we know that something else changed
the timelines. Like, all Loki did was be confusing. That's
all Loki did was confused everything. So yeah, you're now
(07:15):
getting a more a more accurate representation of what a movie,
you know, series or or or big pantheon looks like,
where some stuff is gonna be good, some stuff is
gonna be and some stuff is gonna be I don't
get it. You know, Marvel rolled sevens for a long time.
Everything they put out was great, and they maybe they
turned aunt Man into into something that was great. This
has been kind of spotty, but you're gonna really enjoy
(07:37):
Love and Thunder. It's fun. The cameos are great. You're
gonna howl in the in the post credit scenes. Uh So,
there's a lot of good stuff there, but so overall,
I would put it right behind the Big Four and
ahead of unfortunately ahead of a lot of other things
that really weren't that good. I kind of dig the
idea that I'll be howling in anything, So that's good.
I'm sure the soundtrack is going to be brilliant. It's
(07:59):
WAKII so is gonna be some laughs. I like Hemsworth
in general. Uh, and obviously Christian Bale, you know it
brings uh the gravity toss. Right. We were talking a
little bit about James con last night. Uh. Well, but
like whenever he's in a role, you're like, you stand
up and take notice, right, Like, all right, there's gonna
(08:19):
be something to this character. I dug and I haven't,
you know, delve too deep into the interviews and press
junk kits, but I did see a quick thing that
was excerpt an excerpt from from a longer form where Bail,
because of um scheduling and timelines for different movies, was
thinking about skipping it and his kids basically browbeating into
(08:42):
take people, saying you will make this happen, Dad, otherwise
you're in trouble. He was talking. He didn't want to
do another superhero movie and they said, Dad, you're gonna
go do this? Oh all right, well, I I guess
I'll go to this movie. Then yeah, and now there's
talk that he's gonna end up in the Star Wars universe.
So like it all, it all plays to as Batman.
He will end up as Batman, but it but it
(09:03):
goes back to the same thing. Right, you mentioned the
early age of Marvel. It's it's the same thing with
Star Wars. There were there were a lot of things
that twenty years later you look at, you know, the
second trilogy and yeah, there's some regrettable decisions and some
editorial things that I think even George Lucas himself wouldn't
defend as vigorously as he did at the time. But overall,
(09:25):
there's some good stuff that happened out of there. There's
some good performances that that have carried through. Um, it's
not all gonna be you're not gonna beat a thousand
producing that much content, and certainly the way Marvel and
the Expanded Universe, they're trying to keep content flowing and
every couple of months it's a new movie. Right as
you walked out of the theory, what you have probably
(09:47):
at least at the one I went to, there was
a giant cardboard cutout thing advertising returned to Wakonda or
whatever it's called, right where we get the second Black
Panther film, So you know it's it's that's thing of
all right, you gotta keep feeding the machine because we're
talking about billions of dollars you paid for these properties.
That's why there's a Zombies three premiering next week. You
(10:07):
have to feed the machine. I love Megan Donnaldy, and
I think she's funny and talented as hell. I'll watch it.
I'm just glad that Nope is coming out soon so
I can stop seeing trailers for that's still another month away.
You know it's not I thought it was like next week. No,
don't tell me that. I thought that wasn't in August,
So don't do that. You just depressed me. Man, Really,
(10:29):
I gotta see I gotta see trailers for Nope for
like another July twenty, only another couple of weeks. So
just don't go to the movies for dreams and avoid
your live television and the DVR you have to hit.
I don't want to see another promo for that movie.
I really don't. You're gonna go see it? Nope, No,
I don't want to see it. You know, when I
saw the first trailer, I said, maybe, yeah, long longer
(10:51):
it's going on. It's like, naw, I'm done. It looks
the thing is it looks so messy. It looks absolutely
so messy. Right Like get Out was so incredibly good,
like I thought it should have been Best Picture, Like
it was that good. It was conversation, it was talent,
it was a story. Get Out was so amazing. And
then ever since then, you know, when when directors get
(11:14):
a blank check to do whatever they want, Hey, you
did that, that's great, they wind up doing everything and
let's put there. And already I can see they put
way too much into this movie. It's like they put
so like us. I felt like they put like seventeen
thousand different things into the movie that caught their attention
at some point. And I'm saying the same thing to this.
This movie looks like there is just too way too
much stuff in it. There's just way too much, and
(11:35):
it's going to be something that's really really messy. Yeah,
I made I made the mistake with with those movies
of not seeing them early before they were so grossly overhyped.
So by time I saw that, I'm like, that's it. Yeah,
and it's it looked the perfectly fine films. Just you know,
when we get into the you know, start calling anything groundbreaking,
(11:55):
earth shattering, you know, genre defying, whatever. You know, my
skeptic and cynical nature kicks in, especially if it's then
been out for a while and everybody tells me how
great it is. I go in with a far more
critical eye than Hey, I've got some popcorn. Let's go
see a movie. It's so good? Really, how good? It's
(12:17):
a great social commentary as soon as soon as that
is the first or second line in a review, how
about Twitter? And out about a Fresco? Mike gets swollen?
Done The Jason Smith Show with My best friend Mike Carmen.

But a C d C has always been pretty generous

Well know everybody wants to because they wait. They just
played an old Kate Bush song and Stranger Things that
(13:41):
she made three million dollars. Hey, here's my song, everybody, Well,
why do you think Sweet Child of Mind is everywhere?
Camn it? Actually? When the boys finally said, wait, wait, wait,
don't be stops. Take the cash. All right, We'll do it.
We'll do it. Uh. Coming up next? Wait'll we tell
you where the NBA and the NFL are headed to
the unbelievable big contract news today out of the league.
(14:04):
That's next right here, This is Fox Sports Radio. Be
sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show
with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven pm
Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio
Whip Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with my
best friend Mike Harmon. On this Love and Thunder Friday,
(14:26):
I'll be playing the role of love. Mike Harmon will
be playing the role of thunder. Well. I've already tagged
as the thunder from down Under in one of the openings.
So why now and you're not from Australia doesn't matter?
Does you're lying to ever? That that open lies to everybody? No?
It really, yeah, it does. It speaks to me. If
(14:47):
you're thunder from down Under doesn't mean the South side
of Chicago, it well, it is on the South side
of Chicago. Just because your feeble brain can't expand beyond
Australia's Australia and you're not from Australia, you can't. If
you could pull off the accent, I would say, Okay,
I haven't tried. Maybe I'll go see Russell Crowe as
(15:11):
he speak as Zeus in Australia slash New Zealand accents.
He actually does use an accent and it's and it's
very entertaining. How about how the great is it though,
that a guy that has complained about superhero movies has
now been Jorrel and now shows up as Zeus. Yeah,
just I just want the checks are gonna clear, right,
(15:31):
all right, but superhero movies are dumb. Just go watch
a couple of hours of Bluie, Oh Blueie nice. Oh man,
that's a that's a good pull Frostberg Blue. Let's go
watch Bluie Uh tickle Crabs today. You're allowed to say that,
just so people know. That's actual thing from the show. Okay,
(15:52):
I mean that is kind of a Friday night usual
diastrous situation. No, no, usually that's something that's said in
the last hour of the show. But is that is Okay,
that's part of that, that's part of the show. That's
also as against you know, activities, Hi I'm Jason Smith.
Do you left? Okay, So let's be careful out there. Uh,
(16:16):
someone got paid today as the Blazers extended Damian Lillard
two years and a hundred and twenty two million dollars.
I know it's weird because just yesterday it was Wait
a minute, I thought the owner of the Blazers wasn't
returning Damian Lillard's calls and emails. There was no relationship. Yeah,
well apparently fat at least they knew Jody Allen knew
(16:38):
his agent, because here comes a two year, hundred and
twenty two million dollar contract extension, going to keep with
the Blazers through the twenty seven season. So Damian Lillard, congratulations,
you got what you want. You're here. Now you're spending
the rest of your career in Portland, for Portland, paying
a guy who's gonna be thirty six years old sixty
one million dollars a year. Probably not the best idea,
(17:02):
but this is the way the NBA is going. Now.
You already have a couple of players. Are you're making
sixty million dollars a year? Uh? Yes, there's the obvious
uh conversation. Part of this is can the NBA really
survive when you're paying guys sixty two million dollars year.
Can the Blazers survive paying him sixty one million dollars
a year? No, it's it's it's it's out of control.
I mean, what are you really doing? But we just
(17:23):
watched NICOLEA. Yokis get uh sixty million dollars a year
the final year of his contract coming up in a
couple of years. So the bigger conversation to have here,
the better, the more fun one is thinking that this
is where we're at. We saw two big signings where
NBA stars are up now over sixty million dollars a year.
Quarterbacks in the NFL are now getting up towards fifty
(17:45):
million dollars. If I could pause you for a second
before you you theorize man, remember how the structure of
the NFL is for most teams, ten twelve guys really
get paid, and then you've got a lot of guys
that don't, right, and there's a lot of cyclical nature
and punishment. Uh and all right, your first contracts up
kind of like the Knicks for years. Wait your first
(18:05):
contracts up. See you, We'll find someone in the draft
to replace. Congratulations. Mitchell Robinson gave the first guy since
Charlie Ward to get a second deal. But the same
thing with the A A NBA right front. Part, Your
your starters make ninety percent of the money, and then
you got guys on the bench with all your kakamamie
mid level exemptions and things like that that don't really count.
(18:28):
That's funny money. So because it gets it gets the
funny money. What this is the conversation now, it's seeing
where quarterbacks all right there, close to fifty million dollars
a year is where the top quarterbacks are getting. NBA
stars now sixty million dollars a year. By I'm talking
about eight years or we will be at a hundred
(18:48):
million dollar a year player either in the NFL or
the NBA, either a quarterback in the NFL who is
not in the league yet or an NBA star will
be making a hundred million dollars a year. That's where
we're getting to. And it's not gonna happen in baseball
because baseball they're kind of meandering around the thirty two
(19:09):
thirty three million dollar a year situation right now. I
can't see that getting jumping up that high. Look, you're
already twenty five million dollars behind where the NBA and
the NFL isn't and generally those salaries jump a little
bit more than Major League Baseball. It's hey, it's guy
in baseball got thirty two million. I'm gonna get thirty
three million. I'm gonna get thirty three and a half million.
(19:30):
Now football is like, this guy is getting thirty five million,
I want forty five. Well, okay, that's what we're gonna do.
Wait what Yeah, so it jumps up quicker in football
in the NBA, but we will see that by twenty
thirty there will be a hundred million dollar a year
player in either the NFL or the NBA. And by
five I would say there's gonna be a seventy five
(19:52):
million dollar a year player in the NFL or the
NBA or are you up at sixty in the NBA.
So maybe NBA, but could be there a great her
back comes in, you never know, but by in the
next three years will be at someone at seventy five
million dollars a year. No, I think that makes perfect sense. Again,
you know, owing to the Adam Silver, you know, declaration
(20:12):
of wanting to triple the rights fees. And if that's true,
then we go to seventy five billion dollars. That means
thirty seven and change go to the players right there
at So, yeah, you split that up between the teams.
You've got plenty of money to spend, plenty to pocket,
and then plenty for reinvestment redeployment purposes, which means you're
(20:35):
stars in order to get them to stay and entice that. Yeah,
you're looking at getting to that mark. So yeah, I
don't I don't think that's out of whack at all.
And again, the haves and the have nots, you're gonna
have that that stratification that's already there, that that divide
is just gonna widen. Right, the guys at the end
of the bench, and they make good money, Let's not
get it wrong. Right, you're drafted in the first round,
(20:55):
you're guaranteed the contract whatever else. Uh, And if you're
in the league for more than just your ten day
deals and whatever, you do make a decent living, there's
no question. But the difference between that sixth man, seventh
man and the end of the bench is is already
stark and the guy at the top. Look, they moved
the needles. They're on all the advertising. That's how you
(21:16):
convinced the local advertisers and sponsors to come on board.
And to do that, you know, you got to spend
some money, right the old spend money to make money,
uh theory, which sometimes is false. In this case, I
think it's certainly there. And if you want to feeld
a competitive squad other than rolling the dice, that you're
gonna hit on that guy, right, that guy in the draft, Yeah,
(21:37):
you're gonna have to pony up cash and we Damian
Lillard's deal. It's just laughable. You got one guy at
Yahoo that says no, no talking, no response, no whatever,
and then you got no all right, here it is.
Here's the deal. You had that thirty two minute interview yesterday.
(21:58):
I saw a thing where he he did a one
on one for someone, a quicker interview, and behind it
there was music loud enough so they couldn't use it.
He waited till the music ended and he retaped with
them to show them some love and let them let
them have their their moments, saying I'm sorry, like just weird.
Like it's completely different. He's a summer league. He's hyping
(22:20):
up the young guys. And then oh, by the way,
he signed a two year extension. Well, and now we
know Jody Allen was at the bank making sure she
had the money. Probably couldn't get reception. I'm deeping the vault.
I gotta make sure I got sixty million dollars a
year for him coming up in a couple of years. No,
that's that's true. I think, Well, because I mean, they
made the big statement and it's actually, you know, kind
of a big deal when you know they put out
(22:42):
that statement the other day because it applies to the
Seahawks and Blazers. Right, eventually it gets sold, but that's
not imminent, which means you go to business as usual,
which is why the stronghold Pete Carroll has over the
Seahawks continues, and why for the Blazers, Like, all right,
what's our one discernible asset? That guy, right, Simons is
the up and comer. And then you've got Damian Lillard.
(23:05):
All right, he can't lose him, especially if he's gonna
be out recruiting guys like Kevin Durant on his Instagram.
You gotta show him some love. He's he's doing everything
he can to do. The Cell job for you, all right,
k D, I'm in. I got five more years. Come on,
you can come here. It's okay, come on, rectify the
mistake they made in the draft all those years ago.
You Look, if I had to pick where my favorite
(23:26):
landing places for k D would be, I would love
to see him go to Portland. I mean that would
be That would be incredible. That's fun seeing that because look,
and make them relevant, right, here's another team in the West, sure, sure,
other than I, because like Oklahoma City has already got
Giddy uh and and CHET, so I mean they're could
well well obviously k D going back to Oklahoma City
(23:49):
to team up with CHET. I mean slim Reapers, the Giddy.
I told you it's the Giddy, slim Reapers. They gonna
have a who's skin of your contest? I don't know.
Let's see, let's put in both my a scale. Let's
see you wins. Oh, chech just out of cheeseburger. Maybe
he's gonna be as much as Kevin Durant. No, Portland
would be a really fun place, and it would be
(24:10):
outside the box a little bit. But does Portland have
what they can give up? You know? Can they give
up enough to get to get Katie. That's gonna be
the tough part um the team. The other team where
that's a little bit more realistic in the West is
I would really like to see him go to Denver
because Denver has the assets to pull off a trade. Hey,
you know what, Jamal Murray is coming back eventually at
(24:31):
some point he's healthy. We can Jamal Murray. We got
Michael Porter Jr. If if I'm the I'm gonna act
up to half to the Nets right now. It's say,
can't that noise? Cancel that noise right now? Don't buy that,
you know, as much as that would be fun for you,
because then maybe Kevin Durant gets into the Sulky and
he and Yokich race on a track somewhere. That'd be great.
(24:53):
But yeah, let's send Michael Porter Jr. And Jamal Murray.
You might get half a year out of the two
of them combined. Yeah, but that okay, that's more. They
got into Kyrie Irving. So you're ahead of the game. No, Well,
but you lose Katie. But remember the net. The Nets
are gonna want to win the pr aspect of this.
They I don't know that it's I don't think they're winning, no,
(25:13):
but but they want well at least you're getting star players, like, hey,
Jamal Murray is a pretty good player. Well, but again,
like we're already doing the Anthony Davis with him. But
but I love I love him, right, I like we
we championed that squad before it became popular to do. So. Unfortunately,
those two guys can't stay healthy. And then obviously Porter Jr.
Has the reputation that he has in terms of locker
(25:37):
room chemistry, which I mean, you're just trying to get
out of that if you're Brooklyn, so you're not looking
to take that on. Yeah, but you remember, Katie's a
guy that was hurt. He's gonna be He's thirty four
years old. If you trade k D and you get
a good young player in three first round picks, which
is what it's gonna probably wind up being the the
the the pr for the Nets is going to be awful.
(25:58):
You couldn't turn Kevin Durant and thing else. But if
you go and make a trade for Jamal Murray and
Michael Porter, Okay, these guys are hurt, but if they're healthy, boy,
this is a really great trade for the Nets. Always
remember the nets. And when you make a deal like this,
when you're trading a star, you have to be seen
as getting back as close to equal value, even if
it's not. But it's got to appear that way because
(26:20):
you're fighting the pr battle to look, why did you
But after that, Rudy Gobert, do you you need five
players and at least six picks? Yeah? That was I
think the rest of the NBA is going, wait, what
really huge? Screwed us trying to trade this guy. I mean,
that's the fantasy pick of all fantasy. But look at
I'm gonna trade you this guy for six None of
these guys are gonna be on my roster, but it
(26:41):
makes it work. It's it's like in fantasy when I look,
I'll trade you the five lowest guys on my bench,
and you trade me the one star. You have five guys,
I would wave and then you said, you said me
that star. No, But look at look at the nets
for instance, right, I'm sorry, look at the seventies sixers.
They make the big trade James Harden for Ben Simmons
(27:02):
earlier this year. Right, James Harden is not the same guy,
not even close. And and when when he wanted to
opt into his contract this year, then said, I'm gonna
give some money back, Uh, so you can, we can
help next year, and I'll sign a two year, new
two year deal with the team. The seventy sixers got
bullied into doing that because we found out today that
(27:23):
Harden is going to give back fifteen million this year
of his you know, forty million, and then we'll sign
a new two year deal where he gets paid, which
is just you see all the puff pieces that were
around that. My god, I I talked about it. It
kind of ingest, but hey, you know whatever, We'll take
him at his word and he does this, he gets
his money and they get some relief for this year.
(27:45):
But to hear it, it was like he was doing
the greatest active charity ever done by a player. Look
how selfless he is for this move link really but
but kind of wins in the end. And yeah, but
but just think about because the seventy six feel bullied
into doing this. Why because they just traded Ben Simmons,
who they kept as a trade chip for a long time,
(28:07):
and they went and got James Harden. If they say
goodbye to James Harden, they're upset at the battle they're
gonna fight in the media and with fans that you
just traded Ben Simmons and now you've got nobody, even
though you're probably better off without James Harden using that
money to go get somebody else to come in and
play with Joel Embiid because Harden does not dynamic anymore.
He's not the guy. But because they're so worried about
(28:29):
the optics of oh, we traded away Ben Simmons, we
gotta keep James Harden. They're gonna keep the guy for
two more years and give him seventy million dollars when
they should just say goodbye to him. All right, that
this is what happens, and teams want to win. That's
that's why I can look at that deal for the
Nuggets with and say, hey, Michael Porter Jr. Jamal Murray,
Kevin Durant, Hey, the nuts can say, oh, we can
(28:50):
kind of win that trade a little bit in the
media not and not get people jumping up and down
on us that we made the worst deal possible. We
could have two new stars here, there's question marks, there's health,
but we he wouldn't suddenly get pummeled that we gave
up a guy in k D and didn't nearly get
equal value. That's a big part of making up trading
star players in the NBA. You're always worried about what's
(29:12):
the immediate aftermath? How are we going to spin it?
How is this gonna go over with our players, with
our fans in the media, because we don't want to
fight a battle from behind by saying, well, no, we
believe in this guy, but just druck believe this guy.
Believing this guy. No, it's hey, we went out and
got Jamal Murray. We didn't know he was going to
continue to be hurt, even though he had a clean
bill of health and was able to come back. But look,
why why wouldn't you trade for him? He's a great player,
(29:33):
Michael Porter Jr. Maybe a great player. Why wouldn't you
trade for these guys? They want to be able to
justify making the deals for these star players by saying,
look at our return, even if the return isn't as
great as it could be if he did something else. Yeah,
or you just throw up your hands and say this
is as good as it gets. Deal with it. We
screwed up speaking of as good as it gets? Right now,
(29:56):
joining us as a guy who is as good as
it at what I don't know, but he is as
good as it gets. It is special delivery. Steve to
Sayer with what's trending in the wide world of sports?
Am I Jack Nicholson or Greg Kennere as good as
it gets? You can be Hunt, you can sure, sure,
Now you're more Jack Nicholson. Well, Jack Nicholson, No, no, no,
(30:21):
you're You're much nicer than Jack wasn't. Most of that
movie it was really kind of the get off my
long guy. Oh he was, he was, he was, but
then he turned around and then he you know, hey
spoiler alert, he makes me want to be a better man.
And that became the big line of the movie. Let's
update the late baseball as the Houston Astros are winning
again eight three at Oakland. In fact, they've just gotten
(30:42):
the final Let no to yep, they've just gotten the
final out. We're getting it live eight three. Houston is
now fifty five and twenty eight. Yankees are sixty one
and twenty three at about the halfway point. Yankees won
twelve five at Boston Josh Donaldson a three run homer.
Rockies eat six four at Arizona. In the bottom of
the eighth, Rocky Stars C J. Crone left as he
(31:04):
was hit by a pitch. It is a bruised wrist,
not broken. Kron has twenty homers sixty five r b
I's Cubs are holding on three two at Dodger Stadium
ahead of l A and the top of the ninth inning.
In Seattle, Mariners and Blue Jays tied to to top
of the seventh, and at San Diego, Manny Machado hit
a three run homer in the first. It's now Padres
five one over the Giants. Bottom of the eighth inning.
(31:27):
Philadelphia was a two nothing winner. At St. Louis, Zach
Wheeler went seven innings for the win. He's eight and
four lowered his e r A under two and a half.
There was a rain delay of almost an hour at
the start in St. Louis. The loss to Adam Wainwright.
Despite throwing a complete game, he allowed two solo homers
to Alec Bohm. Milwaukee's the first place team in the
NL Central, now three and a half games over the

Cards because Milwaukee threw out a runner at the plate
to end the game and beat Pittsburgh for three Detroit
one at six straight seven five at the White Sox,
the loss to Lucas Giolito, who's five and five with
an e r A over five. Kansas City on a
run bottom of the ninth beat Cleveland for three. The
Guardians have lost five in a row. Casey hit a
two run homer bottom of the h just before the

losing streak beating Minnesota and Sunny Gray six five Rangers
with six runs in the fifth inning. Corey seeger a
three run homer. Miguel Cabrera and Albert Pools were added

the Scottish Opened by three strokes. The British Open is
next week. As for tennis, Novak Djokovic, the number one
(32:51):
seat at Wimbledon, won his semifinal. The night is done
for the NBA Summer League. The late game had Phoenix
beating the Lakers by twin kind of like the regular season.
Scottie Pippen Jr. As a starter for this Lakers Summer
League team, did have nineteen points. Shariff O'Neill scored seven
off the bench. And we have a final from the
(33:12):
Canadian Football League at Saskatchewan. The rough Riders over the
Ottawa Redblacks. The quarterback battle Cody Fajardo from Nevada on
the winning side, two touchdown passes for Ottawa and defeat
Jeremiah Soli from Oregon and Old miss one touchdown, one interception.
I was looking at the standings. You've got cal Gary
(33:32):
as they're known up North. Four no co leaders in
the West. No teams have a winning record in the
CFL East. They've all been outscored so far this season.
The first place team, Toronto Argonauts one and two. Thank
to you. There is your CFL Friday Night updates. Yeah Baby,
Live football. Let's go. Jason Smiths Show with my best

Sager on CFL Friday Night. You get CFL and spider Man.
Spider You've got spider Man on. Spider Man not Spider Man. No,
I actually have the Watchman. Is we turned Watchman on? Okay,
and now and now we turned Batman on. So we
have Watchman. We have Batman? Which Batman not Batman? The
(34:17):
Batman not Batman. It's it's it's Emo Kurt Cobain Batman
with Robert Pattinson. It's the Batman, the Batman. But coming
up next, what has baffled me the most about a
big NBA story that's gonna unfold this weekend. That's coming
up next right here, Jason and Mike Fox. Be sure

podcast from Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with
my best friend Mike Harmon. Dodgers trying to come back
here in the ninth down one against the Cubs. Three too,
but Cody Bellingerer batting with runners at first and second,
(35:45):
No buddy up. Look at the resurgence of Cody Bellinger.
One of the many ifs the Dodger lined up so many.
If he starts hitting like he did once upon a
time for three tonight, if if, if, if, if UH.
This story that came out today is gaining a lot
(36:05):
of attention. It's gonna be something that people follow throughout
the weekend. And this is Charles Barkley at the American
Century Championship Celebrity Golf Tournament UH in which he is
playing and Steph Curry is also playing in this and
there is kind of a a bet going on here.
As Caesar Sports Book is offering odds on Barkley finishing
(36:27):
in the top seventy of the field, and there's only
there's only eighty seven people in the field, so you know,
Barkley being as bad a golfer as he is. Uh,
the odds are that he finishes in the top seventy.
Um right now after day one he is tied for
seventy one, so he's right now, he's he's right on
the line. Uh. Steph Curry was asked about this earlier
tay in news conference and he said, oh no, hell no,
(36:50):
clip that send it to him, let him play it
on every t box. There's no way he's doing it.
No way he's gonna finish higher than seventy place in
this golf turn to him. So while today he's right
at the line right now making things interesting. Time for
seventy one, you know. I this is what's always baffled
me about Charles Barkley in his golf game, is that
(37:10):
he's really bad at it. And I get that it's
a conversation piece, but there's no way I could be
this bad at something for so long and not stop
doing it, you know, like I like I would, I
would completely have given up golf or say I'm retired
if I'm Charles Barkley at this point, because I don't
want people making fun of me the entire time. And
(37:32):
again he laughs at it. It's it's you know, it's
self deprecation. And Barkley has so much cash in the NBA.
I yeah, it's not like he's he's all of a
sudden his images going away. But I don't want people
laughing at me like like that. I don't want that.
If I was this bad at golfing, I would have
stopped doing. I would have played for a while and
I would say, you know what, I'm done. I don't
need people making fun of me. I don't need this
(37:54):
kind of flak and and people to just you know,
find something they can they can jump up and down
on me on I can't believe he's still playing. I
can't believe he's still playing. He hasn't retired from playing
golf yet. Now, why why would you? I mean, if
you're having fun with it, maybe you've got side bets.
Maybe it's just a you like being on the course
and being around you guys, and it's a different format
(38:14):
than sitting around doing getting like they have a blast
there's other things I can do sitting around the guy
sitting around the guns. And but here's the thing. If
he's entertained, he's entertained. Like you know, some folks do
things they have no business doing professionally and keep getting paid.
But they think, well, but as long as the check
keeps coming, keep they're doing well. Likewise here, I mean, look,
(38:37):
he's clearly come to uh to some level of peace
with what he is or isn't on the golf course.
So if folks look, because that's that's the big thing
for me. It long stopped being a joke, the fact
that everybody still pays attention. There's Barkley again. It's like
it's a non story. And if you want to keep
harping on it, isn't he the guy that wins A
(39:00):
mean you, I mean the collective you in our sports
media and fandom and and Twitter, Bully is um and
all that other stuff. And like, if you're still obsessing
over his golf game, I think it really says something
about you. Well, no, no Vegas has odds on it
and everything else. That's fine. It's it's fine if you're
looking to speculate and make money on it. I'm just
talking from the pure Wow, look at that, how ugly
(39:23):
it is. Wouldn't you get lesson to be better? Like
sometimes you can't fix things. It's dog new tricks. He's
still doing this if you're this bad, and he knows
he's bad at it, he knows he's not yet, he
knows he's this bad, and yet I'm still gonna do it.
I just couldn't. I just couldn't. I'm really bad at this,
and people bather at me, I'm gonna keep doing it. Well,
he's okay with being left at. Not everybody is right.
(39:45):
Not everybody's okay with that. You know, if if we
had thinner skins from some of the stuff we get
on the Twitter verse, come on, I'd be called every
name in the book tonight. But you and I are
both really good at what we do, so that's that.
But but I'm just saying, like, if your thin skin
in this case, Charles Barkleys, like, this is my fun time.
And if if I'm bad and people want to shout whatever,
(40:06):
they're gonna shout and write on the internet. He thinks
they're all knuckle heads anyway, right, I mean he might
fight with him, but from the desk and they can
throw yeah, but there's nobody that can sit here and say, hey,
Barkley may actually be pretty good. Here's video of his swing.
You can't you can't even make that like, hey, maybe
good now again, No, that's the fun thing that every
once in a while he could. Now if he were
(40:26):
taking up the spot of someone like a Tebow at
the end of a roster, and he's no good and
it's keeping someone from you know, going out and earning
a living. No here, he's a guy that draws eyeballs
to an entertainment program. Have had it, you know, we
could have had Tebow in this program, but nope, Barkley
keeps wanting to play. But who's the big, bigger celebrity.
(40:51):
I mean, you've got Steph Curry where guys are doing
push ups to try to get him to sign a jersey.
That was pretty good. The guy pounded out thirty and
he just laughed. He goes good. Good Man signed the
jersey Forum. But look, you're you're trying to sell headliners. Charlotte,
Charles Barkley moves the needle, Twitter and how about a fresca?
