Hello, Welcome in side hour three The Jason Smith Show
with my bess friend Mike Harmon, Live from the ti
rack dot Com studios tirac dot com.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
I'll help you get there.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
An unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection,
and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tirack dot com is
the way tire bind should be. So here we are,
Golden State meeting Phoenix one fifteen to twenty. It feels
like seventy seven. Midway through the fourth quarter. We got

(01:00):
some stuff on Steph Curry coming up in a few minutes.
But the big story of the night. In what could
be an NBA Western Conference Finals preview, Luka Doncic is
thrown out of the Lakers game against the Oklahoma City
Thunder in the fourth quarter. It was a one point
Laker leads, great game, you know, midway through the fourth quarter,

(01:23):
back and forth. Coming off the great game, we had
a couple of days ago where the Lakers serve notice that, hey,
we're a really good team. Don't forget about us. We
were just bored. Okay, let me tell you for the
long time, the Lakers were just bored. They were bored
after that first month of Luca, they were ready for
the playoffs. That's why they've played poorly. Luca even said it, Hey,
I think we need a little bit more motivation.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
They're bored. It happens.

Speaker 3 (01:46):
Motivation, not motivated enough coming off of being traded and
getting out of Dallas. Not Hey everybody now hates everybody
in Dallas, and I'm because of it.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
So the Lakers have clicked, showed you they're a they're
an NBA Finals caliber team.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
Because look, a lot of the league gets bored.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
Game fifty five, game sixty, it happens, right, and that's
what happened with the Lakers. But you see them play.
You see when they're ready to play. This is how
they play. So we're getting set for a big finish. Hey,
big night, Luca's having a big night. Lebron's having a
big night. Austin Reeves, shake Gildess, Alexander's having a big night. Right,
all the stars are out and then this happened midway
through the fourth quarter, and listen to Lakers play by

(02:27):
play man Bill McDonald. Basically, it's his fault that Luca
got thrown out because maybe Lucas stays in if Billy
Mack doesn't say what he says, Dodger stars stop shoot.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
Get a score where he got to switch. He won
it again, Hardy's time. Lucas thrown out. Luca just stut
going out there you go second technicult. Luca is saying
he was talking to a fan and the official was
saying he was talking to me, So that's his second technical.

(03:00):
He's out of the game.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
Lakers TV on the call, Bill McDonald right before that,
I mean literally right before that, says, hey, great to
see all the stars on the court tonight. One point
and then Luca gets thrown out ten seconds after Billy
Max says that it's his fault.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
I think he's Billy Max's fault.

Speaker 3 (03:17):
Well foreshadowing, right, I mean, got all excited because it
we want of questionable tags earlier in the day, right
as we watched it, and wondering because you have the
back to back with the game against the Mavericks that
everybody has had circled since the day of the trade,
who's available and how we're going to get to that
point in that big showdown that Wow, everybody got activated

(03:40):
except Ruyhachimura, who was expected to be available tomorrow but
obviously getting into the playoffs trying to figure out, you know,
his minutes and monitoring that. But the fact that you
had everybody on the court on both sides, because it
was the same thing for Oklahoma City, wondering if they
would sit a few players again yes, you know, final
couple games of the season and tuning up for the postseason.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
It said no, no, no, national televised game. You think they
got a memo, They got a memo or a phone
call telling you, Man, if you're going to go to
the wall and talk about how important it is to
have star players play in nationally televised games, then it's
important that you go to the wall and say, what
the hell are the officials doing when you eject.

Speaker 2 (04:21):
A guy for yelling at a fan? Right now? JT.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
Or referee in this game. We got a big quote
coming your way from Jared farrendebuilt in a minute. But honestly, yeah,
you have to make sure that if you're gonna throw
a guy like Luca out, you're sure what he did.
And there's no way they were sure. There's no Right away,
Lucas said, do it.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
I'm not yet.

Speaker 1 (04:39):
I was yelling at the fans, been yelling at me
the whole game. No, no, no, I'm throwing out Luca.
You want to make sure the stars are on the floor.
You got to extend that to the to the referees,
because the officials. Again more I'm coming to the game
because you want to see me, officiate, I'm gonna throw
you out. And you know that that officials take stuff
personally and they bring stuff into the game that they shouldn't.

(05:00):
Here's Luca following the game. He was asked about his
ejection in the fourth quarter. And here's what Luca had
to say about getting tossed. Let's hear Luca.

Speaker 4 (05:10):
You can see it. That happened. But you know I
never got a fen injected.

Speaker 1 (05:15):
Never.

Speaker 4 (05:16):
But if he's gonna talk, I'm gonna talk about that.
Holy So that they had nothing to do with the ref,
so I didn't really understand.

Speaker 1 (05:22):
All right, So there is Hey, if a guy's gonna talk,
I'm gonna talk to him, Okay, and Luca understands, Hey,
I got thrown out. But if a guy's gonna talk,
you get ejected. And I get I get that. Hey,
maybe make a bit of a smarter decision. Don't yell
at a fan all the time, but hey, guys, yell
at fans. Fans yell NBA players. This is kind of
how it goes.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
Now.

Speaker 1 (05:41):
Here's Lebron on Luca's ejection in the fourth quarter, because
he spent more time arguing for Luca than anybody else did.

Speaker 5 (05:48):
It was a weird where a couple of minutes after that,
I'm starting with the rejection. I don't know why the
ref was taking it personal over the pay he had
already gave Luca one and Luca knew that. And Luca
going back and forth at that time with the fan
that sitting course side like Luca does. When the fans
get to talk, when they talk out of their mind,
whatever the days may be, and everybody's going back or
forth in the reference took it upon himself to think

(06:10):
it was you know, verse him or whatever the case
may be. But I mean, then another team on bando
after a block shot, and the games just just weird
as tail after that moment.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
So wait a minute, Wait a minute.

Speaker 1 (06:22):
Lebron is saying that the referee took it upon himself
it was personal. Well that's a pretty big accusation. Uh,
here's teammate Jared Vanderbilt saying, oh yeah, absolutely, it was personal.
Listen to this explanation.

Speaker 2 (06:38):
Yeah, for sure, he was. He felt I got fu
which I did get fout and.

Speaker 6 (06:42):
I got stumped across the head.

Speaker 5 (06:44):
He was just telling the rep that that's what happened,
and you know, Rep was just like, you know, I
don't want to talk to anybody.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
I gotta talk to anybody.

Speaker 6 (06:51):
But he Luca obviously saw uh you know, I.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
Seen the little person at that point. But yeah, he
was just advocate for me.

Speaker 5 (06:57):
Said I got fired.

Speaker 6 (06:58):
I bet you a record.

Speaker 1 (07:01):
Referee said I'll talk to anybody but Luca. That's Jared
Vannabilda Lakers right there. I'll talk to anybody, but Luca.
I mean, come on, man, I mean I get that
there's rivalries, I get that there's play, there's officials that
players don't like, and there's players that officials don't like.
But understand, man, be a pro like, be a pro like.

(07:22):
You know, the guy's not gonna you gave him a tea,
he's not gonna yell back at you. You know he
wasn't yelling at you, but oh I think he was.
And because all the fans are right here, I don't
want them to think, oh, this guy's yelling at me,
so I'm gonna throw them out of the game, all right.
I mean, I'm not saying it's kart, it's carte blanche
for one way or the other about how you how
you adjudicate this, But when you're gonna throw a guy

(07:43):
out of the game for yelling something, you gotta make
damn sure it is something that is directed at you
that is worthy of being thrown out. Now, you brush
by an official, you touch an official, Okay, you're right
in their face where there's no way you can make
any mistake that you're yelling at me. Okay, I understand that,

(08:03):
But something like that, I mean it's you could do
a better job for everybody involved making sure that you
got it right. Even if at the end you want
to give Luca a technical and then you rescind the ejection.
What are you there some way to fait? Obviously, with
two technicals you get thrown out. But if there's some
way you can serve both masters on it, I'm down
with that too. But to make it where okay, I'm

(08:27):
throwing them out, well, that's a pretty big decision to
be made for something you're not sure happened. And when
the officials aren't made to answer for this, the NBA suffers.
This is where if I'm the players, I use the
power that I have over Adam Silver and I say, hey,
you got to fix this.

Speaker 2 (08:41):
This is ridiculous. This is what's got to happen.

Speaker 1 (08:43):
Because I know that you never want to impugne the referees,
and you want to make sure that you don't want
to make them lesser in any statures. You want to
make sure they can call the games the way they
have to. But when you get out of control, no,
I'm sorry. If players get out of control, you can
get thrown out of games and get fined. Then referees,
same thing can happen to them. You can look at
this and say this is something that is unacceptable. If
you're gonna throw Luca Danza shout, you throw them at

(09:05):
you go back and you make sure and you huddle
with the all the officials. This is a big decision.
Let me remind you, we go crazy about players sitting
out of back to back games when it's on national TV,
and we want these guys playing in this game. All
the Lakers play, all the stars decided to play. And
so if that's the case, then you got to make
damn sure when you're throwing a guy out of this

(09:26):
game that you are you are. You are a bulletproof
on this And there's no way jt Or and the
referees and the other officials were bulletproof right away. You saw,
you saw Luky I'm yelling at the fan, because this
guy got to know that the fan is yelling at
him the whole game. Right If jt Or is so
and Luca's head and I'm with him the whole game,
he knows that Luka yells at fans. He knows the

(09:47):
fan is yelling at Luca both in general and during
this game. You got to make a better decision that
You've got to have a cooler head than that.

Speaker 3 (09:53):
But that's the question, right, is going through the full
forty I don't know the history of jt Or and
Luka doncis I mean right now, I've tried to do
the cursory search, and you know, we'll launch an investigation
as so many Laker fans are calling on for jt
Or just for that. How many times has he teed
him up before? Have they had words, et cetera? Has

(10:16):
he gotten into his feels before? Because it's the old rule.
I always tell you, I can't tell you how to feel.
I could try to spare your feelings. I can try
to look out for you and make sure that you
know you're sensitive to those things. But in the end,
what's said is said, what's done is done, and I
can't tell you how to feel positively or negatively.

Speaker 2 (10:35):
You're gonna take it for what you are and for
or that's just it.

Speaker 3 (10:39):
If you thought this was the latest, because let's face it,
one of the big reputational things of Luca dongis's what
he's gonna argue with people. Lebron says it talking about
the fan who I'll get to him in a second,
but we've certainly seen it with Luca. How many if
you're a fan of anybody other than the Mavericks, now
the Lakers. What's your overwhelming thing? Boy, hell of a player,

(11:01):
But boy does he complain to the referees and yell
at the referees a lot. So the war of words
to your point, Yeah, already had a technical in the hopper.
So it's got to really be something special for that
second one, particularly in a primetime game, particularly when the
Lakers are battling for the second seed in the Western
Conference now owned by the Houston Rockets. But this from

(11:23):
Dave McManamon at MC ten, the thunder fan, Jeremy Price
calls himself the quote court side tattoo dude unquote said
he engaged in trash talk with Doncics before absolutely last season,
matter of fact, when he was a Maverick in the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (11:40):
But all within the game. Uh huh, we're gonna believe.

Speaker 3 (11:44):
We're gonna believe this guy saying they got history, they
got beef.

Speaker 2 (11:48):
No, but exactly what happened. This is garbage.

Speaker 1 (11:52):
If this is what referees and officials get paid for. Okay, yes,
are they paid to officiate the game? Yeah, but you
know the game is emotional. You know that players have
to play it emotional and you have to understand that
this is part of the This is what you get
paid for, right, This is you get paid for, not
just hey, oh I saw this as a walk. This

(12:14):
is a travel, this is a charge. Yeah, that's you're
supposed to do. But you get paid a lot of
money and you get assigned big games because this is
stuff that goes along with your occupational hazard, being able
to manage a game and not fly off the handle.
And that's what this official did, and that's what JT
or dubb. I'm flying off Then I'm throwing him out
of a game.

Speaker 2 (12:33):
Why? Well, I thought he was yelling at me.

Speaker 1 (12:35):
That's not good enough, man, That's not good enough to
That's not good enough of a reason to say, hey,
I'm throwing a guy out of a game.

Speaker 3 (12:42):
But from the pool reporter right goes to Tony Brothers
after the game. Why was Lucas says the technical by
or was it the officials judgment that he was speaking
to him or to a fan Brothers, He looked directly
at an official and used vulgar language.

Speaker 2 (12:56):
That was how they interpreted it.

Speaker 3 (12:59):
Again, as he's running back up the court, he's kind
of in the sight line of where Luca's looking back
at the fan and yes, reviews and unless you're miked
up and we mic everybody up and we parse that out, like,
how do you get to one hundred percent, you know,
conclusive evidence that he didn't say something because he had

(13:22):
because you can't tell me Luca hadn't been drawn at
him for the course of the game.

Speaker 2 (13:26):
No, of course, So when when when do you hit
the tipping point? You used to what?

Speaker 4 (13:29):
Never?

Speaker 2 (13:30):
What needed to happen there was Okay, you just threw never.

Speaker 1 (13:33):
You never do you just throw a superstar out of
the game for nothing. You just threw Luca out of
the game. Okay, let's go back and look at video.
This is a big play. This, This is just as
big as hey, who's the ball out off of with
four seconds left in the game. Let's go back and
look at video. Let's see if he if he yelled
at you, Let's see what what was yelled. Let's let's
go find out what's going on instead of just no,

(13:55):
he yelled at me and I'm throwing you out.

Speaker 2 (13:57):
Whoa, whoa, whoa.

Speaker 1 (13:57):
This is a big decision and this should be something
I'm okay with taking a couple of minutes deciding whether
or not we're gonna throw Luca out of the game. Now,
if they went through it and they talked about it,
and the referee said he said this, this, this, this,
and this to me, we you know, the video is inconclusive.
We can't tell that Luca. Luca's head is not turned
so much. It looks like he could be towards a referee.

(14:18):
It looks like it could be towards the fan on
the bench. Hey, I'm okay with that. But at least
you're looking at a big decision and saying we did
the best job we could to figure this out, not
just knee jerk.

Speaker 2 (14:29):
I think you're yelling at me and you're out of
the game.

Speaker 1 (14:31):
But in the end, if it becomes the do you
believe Luca or the official who's supposed to be in charge.

Speaker 2 (14:36):
The official?

Speaker 1 (14:37):
All right, but you overturn stuff on the floor. Officials
make mistakes. You overturn stuff on the floor all the time.
You go back and look and say, oh, no, no,
he was really yelling at the fan.

Speaker 2 (14:45):
He wasn't yelling. Oh it be a dirty so and
so how do you disprove.

Speaker 1 (14:48):
That exit out by a Fresca exit swollen dull. I mean,
get involved, Yeah, get involved, make it work, Make it work.
You're gonna go crazy on the players for playing nationally
televised games.

Speaker 2 (15:02):
Make sure the officials have it to the best of
their abilities. They don't really do that anymore.

Speaker 1 (15:07):
Coming up next, we got a hot take on a

Fox Sports Radio. Jason Smith Show, My Best Friend Mike Harmon.
That's gonna be my karaoke tune on Friday let's go
h hey, wait, we want to stop this guy and
he's to go to the hospital. No, I'm just doing
a breathing thing. No, I think you're in trouble, sir.
I think you're in trouble. Let's get let's get the

(17:17):
oxygen in, temporary.

Speaker 2 (17:19):
Oxygen in, help this guy. It's all for effect, man,
It's all for effect.

Speaker 1 (17:25):
So just really quick before we get into what we
just saw from Steph Curry. So earlier today, I'm texting
with our manager, Scott Shapiro. We've talked about him on
the show. He runs Fox Sports Radio, he and Don Martin,
and he's the biggest Timberwolves fan in the world. So
I'm just texting with and I give him a fun
little tea Wolves line at the end of our textings. Ah,

(17:47):
can't wait for the game tonight. Gonna be another big win.
I'm so excited. I said, Okay, maybe I go or
you just jinks and he goes, no, come on, and
I can't chink something in a text, and I text
and I write, I write to him, I go and
I I've not seen such a collapse in NBA history
like I've seen tonight. What happened tonight, in the fourth
quarter of the Tea Wolves game against the Milwaukee Bucks.

Speaker 2 (18:12):
It's your fault.

Speaker 1 (18:13):
The Minnesota Timberwolves blew a twenty four point lead, the biggest.

Speaker 2 (18:20):
Bucks comeback since nineteen ninety seven.

Speaker 3 (18:23):
Was it a thirty three to four run or something
like that.

Speaker 1 (18:26):
He is never going to tweet anything like that. Again,
done a tweet. This is just a text, I said,
I because I joke you. Oh, I just changed this. Yeah,
I've never seen such an incredible comeback tonight.

Speaker 2 (18:36):
And that's exactly what happened.

Speaker 1 (18:39):
I'm telling you, everything you touch turns to mush in
terms of jumping on board bandwagons or engaging in conversation.
Why Jold Frosbury, He needs to get you stopped talking
about the ladies in a positive tone. It was it
was outstanding, Like He's this is what we actually talked
about in the text. I haven't seen such an incredible

(19:02):
blown lead and that twenty four point lead minutes unbelievable.

Speaker 2 (19:06):
Oh man.

Speaker 1 (19:08):
And now they drop to the eighth spot. I mean now,
now they're not going to drop past the eighth spot,
but they dropped behind the Clippers now for the eighth
spot in the Western Conference. And it was good except
Scott Shapiro, this is on you. Well, it's Doc Rivers safe.

Speaker 2 (19:22):
Where does you know it's Ever? It's Ever?

Speaker 1 (19:26):
Everybody else getting fired that that had great success with
squads in the past.

Speaker 2 (19:31):
The message is dead.

Speaker 1 (19:32):
I kind of keep waiting for teams going well, somebody
is eventually going to fire a coach and they're gonna
hire Danny Hurley, Like that's gonna happen, right, Memphis, No, no,
no Nuggets today, No, no, no, no.

Speaker 2 (19:43):
Or did they save Doc Rivers job today?

Speaker 3 (19:46):
It would have been This would have been the day
if they'd lost this game.

Speaker 2 (19:50):
To say, well, you know, hey, you know Malone is
out over there. Messages are working, Messages are working. No,
they're not paying attention to me. That's what it is.
Don't pay attention. Yos are coming. Don't pay attention. I don't.
It doesn't really matter the other way. We're gonna we're
gonna play. We're gonna finish fifth. It's okay, it's all right,
We're gonna finish with good We have the pacers in
the first round. We're fine.

Speaker 3 (20:10):
They got fifty five points off the bench, Porter leading
the quarter, junior leading the way with twenty one. Bobby
bortis his wow. Uh now so crazy again.

Speaker 1 (20:22):
This goes to show you when you when you talk
with me about sports, sometimes you might lose some karma
that you don't want to know.

Speaker 2 (20:28):
Uh now, we just watched the movie. There.

Speaker 1 (20:31):
Final NBA game of the night, Steph Curry and the
Warriors absolutely blow out the Phoenix Suns a game that
was never close. I mean from the jump one thirty
three to ninety five is your final and coming off
a career low three point game, which has gotten a
lot of attention from Steph Curry the last few nights,
he came out shooting today.

Speaker 2 (20:52):
I think he had twelve in the first quarter.

Speaker 1 (20:55):
He only had to play twenty six minutes because the
game was over well in hand. But stef in twenty
six minutes twenty five points, nine rebounds, and six assists,
the Warriors roll over the Suns. Clearly, this is a
game you expected Steph Curry to have. Coming off a
career low three points against the Houston Rockets.

Speaker 2 (21:16):
He ran playing a team that's quit. Well, that's the
whole thing.

Speaker 1 (21:19):
He knew he was gonna have wanted to have a
big bounce back game getting ready for the playoffs and
didn't want the narrative of wow, Steph Curry three points,
My goodness, what's happening, So you knew he's gonna have
a big night. This is kind of irrelevant because yes,
the Sons have quit. As you can see, they have
absolutely quit on the season. They had already quit. They're done.

(21:39):
But when it comes to Steph Curry, the game against
the Rockets that we saw two days ago was a
really big deal because what you saw from the Rockets,
who have played extremely well. Right, we thought they were
gonna they looked like they might free fall through the
standings a little bit in the Western Conference at the
middle of the season, swoon. But now they're the number

(22:01):
two seed in the West. Right, they have played really,
really well, and you saw what they did to Steph
in the game. Right, I worry a ton if I'm
Golden State because that that to me. I see that
and I go, that's a blueprint game. That's a blueprint
game of a playoff team, of a good team saying
you think you're just gonna come in and get shots

(22:22):
off and beat us, you are not. We're gonna be
physical with you because we are younger, we have the
better defenders. I mean, Thompson just had him locked up
the entire game. We're not this is not kiss the ring.
We have to spread the floor out. Boy, if we,
if we, if we concentrate on Steph, Curry, Clay is
gonna beat us. KD is gonna beat us. Somebody else

(22:42):
is gonna beat us. Wiggeds is gonna beat us. No, no, no,
Steph is older. Now he always has trouble getting away
from big defenders in clutch moments.

Speaker 2 (22:50):
But this is where the Rockets have said.

Speaker 1 (22:52):
Yeah, no, you don't steam roll us anymore. We're the
ones that dictate the pace for you. And as good
as the Warriors. I mean, I've said this is a
Warriors team that is still becoming the best version of themselves.
Great move to get Jimmy Butler at the deadline, but
we said it was gonna be one more move. They
need They need another. That's a team that needs a
big three with an aging Steph to be able to say, hey,

(23:15):
we're back being a real force in the Western Conference.
So I love what they did. Their next piece is
coming this summer. I mean, whether it's Joel Embiid or
somebody else, but they need they need that one more piece.
So it's a great start right now. But clearly this
is where the Rockets can say, Hey, don't worry about
Jimmy Butler, don't worry about these other guys.

Speaker 2 (23:32):
They're not dynamic. Do anything.

Speaker 1 (23:34):
You can beat the crap out of Steph in a game,
make him really work. He'll get frustrated. He's in his
mid thirties. Now you can do it. This was a
game unlike I have seen a team attack Steph Curry
in the Usually, Hey, we're gonna bust this out in
the playoffs and see how it goes. But how that
game went, I worry a ton if if I'm Golden

(23:54):
Steak as I go, this is exactly what we're gonna
see in the playoffs team and not everybody will be
able to do it, but teams that are young defensively
or really good. We've seen the Timberwolves play great defensively
over the course of the past year. Not so much
this year was last year, but you've seen teams defensively
up the any the Lakers are up the any defensively.
I worry a ton if I'm the Warriors for this

(24:15):
playoffs because of that game. Well, you can't stop Pajemski,
so it's all over.

Speaker 3 (24:19):
I really loved this back and forth though, right Adoka,
when people start complaining about foul calls or crying about physicality,
you've done your job. So that's the first step in
winning the battle. So I told my team, when this
team starts crying about it, up the intensity, up the aggressiveness,
and make the refs adjust to you.

Speaker 1 (24:37):
It's a good philosophy. I like that Steph's comeback quote.
He made a reservation to International smoke and then he
canceled it and I was kind of upset with him unquote.
So yeah, a little back and forth, but the curiosity
becomes playoff time where we normally see it, where you
can ratchet things up. We talked about it a lot
with the NCAA tournament, where it seemed all right for

(25:00):
the most part, we're gonna let the physicality go, and
then all of a sudden, we're gonna hit the brakes
and we're.

Speaker 2 (25:07):
Gonna start calling everything.

Speaker 1 (25:08):
Because you saw it with Houston, right you saw it
in the final first half they got to be physical.

Speaker 2 (25:14):
With Florida, second half not so much.

Speaker 3 (25:17):
A lot of funk calls really bogged out what they
were able to do when you saw things open up,
wondering if because it is the power of Steph Curry,
if suddenly there isn't the invisible force field that suddenly
is around him in the playoffs and fouls aren't stacking
up against the young rocketsh you.

Speaker 2 (25:34):
Get pretty fast. This is getting the free throw line.
Oh man again, So Steph Curry is now thirty three
for thirty five from the free throw line tonight. But
that's just for oh from the floor.

Speaker 1 (25:44):
He's been on the free throw line every single time
he is taking a shot. Well, it just becomes the
did we beat him down to where physically he continue
throw the damn top. But look, but that's part of
the philosophy of team saying. Okay, they can't call it
all the time. We're talking good if we're good enough
defensively or not. Butcher's where we're just gonna just gonna

(26:05):
run through guys in foul trouble.

Speaker 2 (26:06):
We can pull this off. We can.

Speaker 1 (26:08):
We can pull it off to a large extent because
the more if you have a parade of a guy
to the free throw line, Okay, nobody, nobody likes that.
That's gonna that's gonna be bad for the game, and
I mean bad for that specific game. So yeah, okay,
we understand we can do it. We're good enough defensively.
And that's the thing is Steph is gonna slow down
a little bit, and you're seeing it a little bit now.
He's still capable of big games. He's still dynamic. But

(26:29):
this is not the younger Steph that you can watch
run around the floor for twenty seconds on the shot
clock and gain get free for a pass and a
catch and shoot with three seconds left on the clock
and hit a twenty five footer. Steph can't do that
that much anymore. You can't do it when you're in
your mid thirties. It's a little bit more difficult. So
making him work, they've decided, Okay, now we're at the

(26:50):
point where we know we just are gonna make you work.
We're gonna make you work, and we know that we
can frustrate you and we can win a game and
it's going to be something that we can control. That's
why I feel that, that's why this is such a
big deal. This is not suddenly Steph Curry is done.
This is not suddenly it's over. But it's Okay, we
need sometimes teams need that. Well, we don't want to

(27:12):
be the guinea pig. Oh okay, well we just watched
the Rockets do it. Okay, doors open, guys, let's go,
let's go, let's go. Let's go through that personnel to
do it. Absolutely and lots of teams in the West.
Ken's Western Conference is deep, so the playoffs are interesting.
If you go and you look at the odds to
win win the conference, it's it's pretty tight between a

(27:32):
number of squads, pretty jumbled because just that we're talking
about depth and wondering if you know you can catch
lightning in the bottle. Not to mention it's a long
slog to get through the Western Conference. You got to
play a lot of games and take up a lot
of hits along the way. Exit out about a Frasca exit,
Swalling down. The Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Carmen live from the Tirak dot com studios, time

(27:54):
out to find out what's trending for man who's been
called the Steph Curry a fox Sportso every time I over,
he's just chewing his mouthpiece.

Speaker 2 (28:02):
It's Steve to say he's thrown it at you repeat it.

Speaker 8 (28:04):
I thought you're gonna say from downtown here is there
is one game still going on in La Clippers six
and a half minutes to go lead one oh three
ninety five against the Spurs. For the Clips, this would
be their fifth straight wink. Why Leonard out tonight due
to the bad knee. Golden State sent Phoenix to a
seventh straight loss one thirty three ninety five and yes
at Milwaukee, the Bucks early in the fourth were down

(28:25):
twenty four and still came back to beat Minnesota one ten,
one oh three. Minnesota scored all of eight points in
the last ten minutes. Janni Santenekumpo a triple double. Milwaukee's
won five straight. Minnesota had won five in a row.
Oklahoma City's record is sixty five and fourteen. After beating
the Lakers one, Gay Luca got ejected, Steve to one

(28:46):
twenty forty two points for Shay Giljis, Alexander Lebron James
scored twenty eight for La. Luka Doncic was kicked out
in the fourth quarter. Lakers led at the time. He
had twenty three points. Victories for Cleveland, the one seed
in the East now Brooklyn and Orlando each one, Indiana one.
It's fifth straight. Memphis won at Charlotte won twenty four
to one hundred. The Hornets have a record of nineteen

(29:08):
and sixty. John Moran twenty eight points, eight assists, no turnover,
Zach Eaty nineteen rebounds for the Grizzlies, and Boston won
in overtime at New York one nineteen one seventeen. Jason
Tatum thirty two points, including the tying three Layton regulation.
Christaps porzingis back in New York thirty four points for Boston.

Speaker 2 (29:27):
Yay, Chris Tops.

Speaker 1 (29:29):
I'm so excited about playing in the garden at sarcus.

Speaker 8 (29:33):
I hear he's the Latvian Dirk. The NBA regular season
ends this Sunday. The Denver Nuggets fired coach Michael Malone
today and the contract of GM Calvin Booth will not
be renewed. Denver just won the title two years ago.
The interim coach will be David Adelman.

Speaker 2 (29:48):
This is the.

Speaker 8 (29:48):
Nuggets eighth straight winning season. They were forty seven and
twenty eights until this current four game losing streak. They
were barely fourth in the West at this firing.

Speaker 2 (29:58):
Today.

Speaker 8 (29:58):
Among the ten NHI games UTAs seven to one over Seattle.
Nashville won seven to six in overtime against the Islanders.
Vancouver trailed five to two with a minute left in
regulation and one in overtime at Dallas. Six to five
victories for Buffalo and Florida. Boston won seven to two
at New Jersey. The late game is finishing overtime. Vegas

(30:20):
tied two to two at Colorado. Speaking of Colorado, the
Rockies are two to eight this young baseball season. Milwaukee
won at Colorado seven to one. As for late night baseball,
Mariners tied one to one with Houston bottom of the
tenth and in Sacramento, the A's a ten to four
leader over the Padres. Top of the ninth attendance nine
thousand in Sacramento, attendance eight thousand. In Pittsburgh, Cardinals beat

(30:43):
the Pirates five to three.

Speaker 1 (30:45):
Well, here's a quick job. I'll tell you how the
game in Houston's gonna end. It's gonna go really well.
Then they're gonna make a lot of mistakes right at
the very end of the game, and they're gonna lose.

Speaker 2 (30:56):
That's what's gonna happen. Okay, should I write that down?
I just say, Ficity, it's going to happen right there. Okay,
it's not. It doesn't pervade the whole city.

Speaker 1 (31:04):
One of the players is going to go up with
a bat to take it in tow and when he's
gonna swing, he's gonna change his mind and drop the bat.

Speaker 2 (31:11):
It's gonna be.

Speaker 8 (31:12):
Things pervaded the whole city. University of Houston would have
just cheated and won the trophy last night, and.

Speaker 1 (31:17):
Kelvin SiZ is gonna sat on the sideline and just
watched the final play happen.

Speaker 2 (31:22):
They wanted that hunk and metal.

Speaker 8 (31:23):
By the way, They're off to the eleventh inning now
at Seattle one to one with Houston.

Speaker 2 (31:29):
Atlanta beat Philadelphia seven to five. Mets won.

Speaker 8 (31:31):
They're sixth straight down in Miami ten to five.

Speaker 2 (31:34):
Mets.

Speaker 8 (31:34):
Update on catcher Francisco Alvarez. He and Jeff McNeil took
batting practice in New York today. They're headed to Florida.
Alvarez starts a rehab assignment at a ball tomorrow. McNeil
might start a rehab assignment down there this week. No
timeline for his return, but we know the Alvarez injury
was a month ago and he was due to miss
six to eight weeks with the broken bone in the
hand that needed surgery.

Speaker 2 (31:55):
Back to you, Thank you, Steve.

Speaker 1 (31:57):
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon Live from the
tire dot Com Studios, coming up next. Yes, we'll get
back into Luca and the Lakers and everything else happening tonight.

It's got a lot to do with sports, a lot
to do with the show, and it's coming up next

(32:17):
right here.

Speaker 2 (32:18):
What is it?

Speaker 1 (32:20):
Okay, not quite twenty five years old? You said huge,

The Jason Smith Show with My best friend Mike Harmon,
Live from the tire Rack dot Com Studios. Twenty five
years ago today, twenty five year, big headline, big, big anniversary.
We only do the big anniversaries here, sure, five fifteen,

(33:01):
twenty twenty five.

Speaker 2 (33:02):
Oh good, you can count that. Five forty one, got
star fifty on.

Speaker 1 (33:06):
The other side of midfield. It's gonna be a touchdown.
Good go it's a Jets failed pick. Sick okay, Jason,
actually forty nine years ago, forty nine years ago, so
twenty five years well, yes, actually forty nine year yes, yes,
but it was we learned about it twenty five years
ago on this day, a six' five win for The

(33:26):
dodgers over The. Mets On april, eighth two, thousand we
saw this for the first. Time you gotta set it,
up but, wait, wait, okay, Okay i'll set it up
better and luckily all, right, right twenty five years ago,
today we found out about a very hush hush recording

(33:49):
session in the nineteen seventies rock and roll era band
went in to record one of their big, hits what
song would turn out to be one of their really
big Hit and there was a bit of some questions
between band members the producers during the recording of this
hit and if things went one, way maybe we don't

(34:11):
get this hit song that we've listened to now for
the better part of the last fifty. Years but we
found out on this day twenty five years, ago we
almost didn't get any cow, bell.

Speaker 6 (34:26):
Right, GUYS i think we're ready to lay this first track.
Down by the, way my name.

Speaker 2 (34:32):
Is Bruce, Dickinson, yes The Bruce.

Speaker 6 (34:35):
Dickinson AND i gotta tell, you, fellas you have got
what appears to be a dynamite sounds coming from.

Speaker 1 (34:42):
You.

Speaker 2 (34:42):
Bruce that means a. Love, YEAH i mean, You Bruce.
Dickinson this is.

Speaker 1 (34:49):
INCREDIBLE i can't Believe Bruce dixon digs are sound, easy.

Speaker 6 (34:52):
GUYS i put my pants on just like the rest of,
you one leg at a, time except once my pants are,
ON i make gold. Records all, right here we.

Speaker 2 (35:04):
Go, dear don't take? One all? Right what? Two, three?

Speaker 1 (35:10):
FOUR i love the fake playing because none of them can.

Speaker 2 (35:15):
Play oh.

Speaker 1 (35:16):
Clearly, ah there goes the cow. Bell so twenty five
years ago today we got the cow bell sketch for
the very first. Time and you know Why Night live
because luckily the cameras were rolling, right.

Speaker 2 (35:32):
The cara camera is always. On you always looked for
that green.

Speaker 1 (35:35):
Light Will ferrell said he always had the idea to
do something like this because he heard the cowbell on
this you can hear the cowbell not quite that. Loud,
obviously he was, LIKE i wonder what the story is
with that and apparently he pitched that sketch like a
bunch of times before finally they, said oh, well, Well Christopher,
walking he can pull it. Off and, honestly as good

(35:55):
as this sketch, is And Will ferrell with a shirt
that barely fits him in his and everybody's, brain because you,
Know Jimmy fallon's thing was to break like it's a great,
sketch But Christopher walking makes it. Happen his delivery of we're,
done we all be wearing go play to. Diapers what
does that? Mean never Question Bruce. DICKINSON i mean the
first time he comes out and, SAYS i could have

(36:17):
used more cow, Bell LIKE i don't know anybody else
that could have pulled it, off, Right and you, think, okay,
no it's not gonna, work not gonna, work not. Work oh,
Okay Christopher, walking we think this can. Work and when
you're watching the sketch in the, beginning it's, funny but it's,
like is it really? Funny but then you get to
the first part with the cow, bell and Then Christopher

(36:37):
walker comes back out and, says, FELLAS i could have
used more cow, Bell and from there the sketch just
absolutely takes. Off and it shows you something that we
talk about on the show all the, time is. It,
look we've been Doing i've been doing this for twenty years,
now we've been doing the show together now for eleven,
years alls been.

Speaker 2 (36:52):
Together AND.

Speaker 1 (36:55):
I like to think, That, okay something that we, say
something that we, do when it gets put out there
on social, media it hits and people pay attention or
something we, say uh, that, oh, well people are going
to pay attention to, this and there's no way to
figure that. Out you never know what's gonna. HIT i

(37:15):
didn't know criticizing The lakers THAT Jj reddick was going
to be so mad about it and reference you, know,
uh you, know and reference us in the in his.

Speaker 2 (37:23):
Press conference a few weeks. AGO i didn't know.

Speaker 1 (37:25):
That when you AND i did the bit on wemby
uh just being going out for the. Year we did
it for a few minutes when we filled in during the,
day and it got millions of views like, LIKE i don't.
Know and that's the best part of the. Job it's
also the worst part of the job is you want to, think, Oh,
okay we had a great take on this that no
one's saying, boom and it's gonna take off for, us
and then sometimes it, does sometimes it.

Speaker 2 (37:44):
Doesn't and then you.

Speaker 1 (37:45):
Have something, that, hey here's a filler, schedule like it's
the first sketch. Out it's not a timely. Sketch that's
something that really blaze into something going on in the. World,
uh but you say, it and oh, look, look look look.

Speaker 2 (37:57):
At the look at the look at look at the
impact of.

Speaker 1 (37:59):
It and and here you look at the impact of
the sketch where there's no way again it was pitched
seven times before it was actually okay to go ON,
snl and now it's become what arguably is the most
famous and BEST snl sketch we've ever.

Speaker 9 (38:12):
Heard one thing, more we should probably give him more

(38:32):
a whole lot of songs.

Speaker 1 (38:37):
To be heard After Jimmy fallon broke in the, Back
Quick quick being so selfish.

Speaker 2 (38:41):
Genius all, right a couple of.

Speaker 1 (38:44):
Things according to a Quick internet, search six hundred and
twenty seven million streams Of Don't fear The.

Speaker 2 (38:51):
Reaper, okay so ponder.

Speaker 1 (38:55):
That that's Just, spotify that's not even all all other streaming.
Platforms this sketch didn't happen when we're into video, shorts.

Speaker 2 (39:04):
Right it's one.

Speaker 1 (39:05):
Thing you, know all the stuff you did With Lonely,
island the you know The samberg with With Justin timberlake
and all those which would go. On this is a
twenty five year old sketch that just just stated over
time and then became this monster. Thing now happy belated
To Christopher walking turned eighty two a week. Ago but
he sells it and cough a walk, baby AND I

(39:28):
i just got to ask, questions how Did Jimmy fallon
not get his ass? Kid by the rest of that cast.
Repeating but sometimes the thing is when you, break and
it's funny people. Laugh it's a thing that makes people
laugh even though it's like you're not supposed to.

Speaker 2 (39:41):
Break it's.

Speaker 1 (39:42):
Unprofessional him And Horatio sands will break all the, time,
right they would, break, Sure so it becomes and that's
a funny part of the sketch when he can't stop
letting equip. People, no because this is still in the
early part of The fallon breaking. Sketch, no this this
is a. Classic it's a masterclass in time and. Pacing
you never know what's gonna hit and that, again it's,
maddening but it's also the best Part my going this is.

(40:05):
Something who knew this was gonna be as popular as it?
Was and here twenty five years, later memes and quotes,
again it's arguably the best sketch they've ever done in
fifty years OF.

Speaker 2 (40:14):
Snl that's the best. ONE i got a.

Speaker 1 (40:15):
Fever the only prescription is look At dodget's getting thrown
out of a. Game we got a BIG nba breakdown
