Speaker 1 (00:29):
Hello, Welcome inside our three, The Jason Smith Show with
my best friend Mike Harmon, live from the Tirack dot
Com studios tyrec dot com.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
I hope you get there.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
An unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection
over ten thousand recommended installers. Tyrack dot com is the
way tire buying should be. Welcome back to the NFL.
On a second, but Markeye, Game Night two of the
NBA right now.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
Going to the fourth quarter.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
It is the Clippers and that's seventy dollars parking up
over the Suns seventy four to seventy two.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
Why you so mad? Ap six seventy dollars parking? It's
costing doing business?

Speaker 1 (01:09):
Leading the way for the Suns tonight? Is it Devin Button.
No is it Kevin durrettna Bradley Beal with seventeen point.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
Not to be confused with friend of the show Larry Bee. Meanwhile,
for the Clippers, it is James Harden. Remember, no Kawhi Leonard,
no Paul George, no Tom Tolbert, no Michael Llawa, Candy
no Brent Barry. The number stat line for Harden tonight,

(01:38):
He's got twenty eleven rebounds, seven assists going to the
fourth quarter with a chance at a triple double.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
Not having a great night, shooting seven out of twenty.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
But still here's Harden kind of by himself here in
the starting lineup as stars go, and the Clippers up
over the Sun seventy four to seventy two going to
the fourth quarter.

Speaker 3 (01:56):
Meanwhile, you've got the Warriors with the twenty seven point
lee after three against Portland.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
Yeah, here's the thing, Okay, I'm gonna tell you things
about both of these games. Okakay, Yeah, I'm not really
sold on the Clippers or the Suns. Yeah, no, not
neither of them. In fact, when that when the trade
deadline comes, they're gonna be We're.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
Open for bits, which one of these veteran players. Can
you do you want to take from us? I'm not
solding them.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
That's their quarter from Marden though, I mean had sixteen.
It's good, But I'm not looked at.

Speaker 1 (02:26):
How many years are we gonna go oh and kawhi
and it's not gonna happen.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
I'm just celebrating all that is. Zubach now what it's
all about for me, Clippers and Sons. I'm not in
on this year. I'm just not.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
And I think instead of hey, wow, the Warriors about
I think you're gonna see a lot of sentences he
can be in Hey, can you believe so and so
is up thirty against Portland. I think that's gonna be
a very common refrain this season. Hey, it's a forty
five point lead against Portland. It's a thirty point lead
at halftime against Portland. I think that against Portland is

(03:00):
going to be a really big phrase that we use.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
They got four guys in double digits. That's good. Yeah, Okay,
that's good. Scoot Anderson's good. That's forty points, you know,
I mean, that's you know.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
I'm trying to sell if you're the six eyes and
double figures in the first quarter, like it was yesterday.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
That's great, but you know, hey, we're going to the
fourth quarter. Four guys have ten points.

Speaker 3 (03:24):
I'm just trying to help the cause club Button day one,
you know, putting these guys out of their misery, knocking
out Hope Springs Eternal.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
Yeah, no, no, it's great. One game. Doesn't a season make
Knicks fan?

Speaker 4 (03:37):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (03:37):
No, obviously no. Klay Thompson uh And tonight's big game.
Oh buddy, Buddy healed off the bench twenty two points,
little buddy in fifteen minutes. He's five out of seven
from three point range. He is the leading score for
the Warriors. Steph has seventeen. But it has been a

(03:58):
big blot for the Warriors against the Trail Blazers again,
eleven thirty five to go on the fourth quarter and
the Warriors are up by twenty seven.

Speaker 3 (04:04):
Does Stuff come back in to get his ten rebounds
so you can get the triple double to start?

Speaker 2 (04:08):
Oh yeah, at some point?

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Yeah, or they just that or Steve Kurtis walks over
to the scores table and just like puts a check.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
Mark that yet, right, you just give him that right there? Thanksious,
just give him that one.

Speaker 3 (04:18):
But look, you gotta love that you got ten games
on the night, that they're not all gonna be gems.
It's kind of like when we watch an NFL Sunday.
You can't tell me that the NFL was very good.
It wouldn't be in the Hall of very good. This weekend,
let's see my package going through here. Oh Jacks, Titans, No,
don't want that. No no, Oh, Cardinals, Giants.

Speaker 5 (04:37):
No like, but like weeks even, was not Bronco's rightsthetically,
please no, for your fantasy lineups or for your eyes, it's.

Speaker 3 (04:48):
The Browns that no. No, When when did the Dodgers
and Mets start? Was really what it was?

Speaker 1 (04:55):
No? No, no, no, no, yeah no. Look, all gonna
be gems.

Speaker 3 (05:01):
And when we go to the NBA, it's gonna be
magnified because there's eighty two of these for each of
these squads.

Speaker 2 (05:07):
But it is opening night, ten games. We had two yesterday,
and then we'll start getting more of this run each
and every night, and you'll get your revenge on the
Pacers at the end of the week.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
Sure, I can't wait for that one, although I don't know.
I couldn't wait for the game against Boston last and
look how that went.

Speaker 3 (05:26):
I gotta tap your expectations, buddy, I mean, look what
you really over the first No, but your close out
defense on three point shots in the fourth quarters, maxis Hey, absolutely,
Immacica now tired legs from draining the first fifty of
them when probably contributed.

Speaker 1 (05:43):
When the Knicks are down thirty, they know we got
to buckle down defensive.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
We got to We're not giving them that thirtieth. Let's go.

Speaker 3 (05:50):
Is that the speech Thibadeau game for did to have
Devanta Adams come out and give the greatest speech ever
and I close out against them.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
Aaron Rodgers says the speech he gave after the loss
of the Dealers is the best speech. He's hurting twenty years.
That's all the jets that coaches suck. No, no, no,
they're not speakers.

Speaker 3 (06:07):
All it means is that nobody really does a good
job at Darkness Retreat.

Speaker 2 (06:11):
All it means is that, boy, Aaron Rodgers is really overrated.
The coaching staff is overrated. Their leadership was overrated. When
a guy who was there for.

Speaker 3 (06:19):
Four days and Quito on his team four days shows up, Hey, guys,
what's going on here?

Speaker 1 (06:25):
Man?

Speaker 2 (06:26):
Let's get it go? Oh wow, wow, Well, Okay, then
this is the guy showing up.

Speaker 3 (06:29):
And telling you how it got a dude who went
Derek Bell operation shut down his team.

Speaker 1 (06:35):
And the crazy thing is that, you know the DeVante
Adams story that that came out today is like I
always couldn't stand that, Like whatever, if I was coaching
or I would see it or if I you know,
I would see it with a team or a team
I played on, like when a guy would come and
play and uh, I saw a lot in hockey, right
when we saw a lot in hockey, Like I remember
a couple of times.

Speaker 2 (06:53):
Oh energy guys showed up and he showed up.

Speaker 1 (06:56):
He said, come on, guys, got you. I'm like, dude,
this is you've been. You don't even know who we are.
You're here filling in here for five minutes. Sit down,
sit down, everything is fine. Oh you know, sit down,
sit down, sit down. I remember we had a goalie
once that came and filled it in a game and
we were losing three nothing going to the going to
the third period, right it was roller hockey game. We

(07:16):
not played well, and I was I was mad at
myself cause I felt like I hadn't had a good
game so far and he goes, all right, guy, and
he made a couple of big says like the coach
score could have been like five nothing, and he goes
and he goes, you know, in third period, we're talking
to each other before the third period starts, and he says,
you know, guys, all I can do is stop it.
And and this is me before I really found my
voice on this team. And I go, then, you know what,

(07:38):
do it and shut up, and I'll score a goal
in the first two minutes and you shut up. And
the guy goes, oh, but I'm just saying. I'm saying,
And I was like, did I really overset my bounds? Like?
And I skate out there and one of my my
linemates says, he says, I'm glad you said that. I
can't stand that guy. I can't stand that guy.

Speaker 2 (07:54):
And you know what, who went out and scored a
goal in the first two minutes? This guy?

Speaker 3 (07:58):
This, I mean, now you had to put up or
shut up, just just just stop that. He would have
been chirpy from the back.

Speaker 2 (08:05):
Just do that and shut up. You hit that one
wide of the post. Uh You think Rogers said that
to Devanta Adams? Hey, you shut up you've been here
five minutes.

Speaker 3 (08:15):
Well, I'm glad somebody said no, because Aaron Rodgers strikes
me as the guy that is really good in front
of the camera, and that he just sits in the background,
like the darkness where there's like that just that little bit,
you know, where the door is slightly a jar and
the light's creeping in so you get part of his
face like it's a really cool movie shot. But he

(08:36):
doesn't say a damn thing. Either nods along or he's
just quiet.

Speaker 1 (08:40):
I don't no, no, no, because his teammates all say
to him what a great leader he is. I just
don't think he's that that that vocal leader that we see.
I think he's one of those guys where hey, in
a quick aside, Hey you know what, listen, when you
run that route, give a little dig to the left
and come back in and I'll put the football there.
If you do that, you'll get the ball. If you

(09:01):
don't do it, the defensive back is gonna be able
to jump in. But I think that's where he has
his moments. I think that's where he does his coaching.
Is his He's like, hey, real quick, by the way,
not in front, not Tom Brady yelling and screaming at
his player. You're blogging like crab and I no, I
think he's one of those guys that does his leading
that way.

Speaker 2 (09:19):
Seven to one, that's good.

Speaker 1 (09:21):
No, Hey, you know how many plays I had to
get and ahead of time before he won a Super Bowl?

Speaker 2 (09:26):
Tons of them?

Speaker 3 (09:27):
All right, tons of I know, all the rams lined
up to know everything because he was smarter than the
average bear. And now he's an AI wizard showing up
and beaming it. Don't bring up the word walk through.
Don't bring up the word walk through.

Speaker 1 (09:44):
So uh yes, Devanta Adams. Now outside of that, that's
the hammy. How about this story from the Giants today
where Giants owner John Marra had a conversation very candid
about the state of the Giants and he says, hey,
Joe Shane, GM, Brian Dable, my head coach, utmost confidence

(10:07):
in them. Their jobs are safe. Oh what about Daniel Jones.
Not gonna talk about it. I'll talk about Joe Shane,
and I'll talk about Brian Babel. Not talking about the
state of the union after week seven, Nope, Nope, not
talking about after you just bench this guy, Nope, not
talking about him.

Speaker 2 (10:26):
Nope.

Speaker 1 (10:27):
Look, and I get why, because I'll tell you what's
gonna happen is that I told you. Look, the Giants
were tanking into this year. The Daniel Jones contract is awful.
He's doing a lot of money for injury. The beginning
of next year. He's got a lot of his money
guaranteed for injury. It's gonna be just like Russell Wilson
last year where the Broncos said, you know, we know

(10:48):
we're getting rid of this guy. We don't want to
have to pay him to be on the roster. If
he gets hurt and we pay him, we pay him.
That's what's gonna happen. And it's gonna happen sometime in
the next few weeks where Daniel Jones will be sat
down because the Giants aren't gonna want to pay him
any money there and Tommy Cutletz is gonna wind up playing,
or whoever else winds up getting in there. Drew Locke
is gonna play, and Daniel Jones is gonna be wrapped

(11:09):
in bubble wrap and he's not gonna see the field again.
That's absolutely going to happen, and it's gonna if it happens.
If it happens later than week ten, I'll be surprised.
But they really don't want to get into a situation
where this guy gets hurt. It's a torn a cl
it's something else, and suddenly he's on the roster.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
He's hurt.

Speaker 1 (11:27):
It's hard to say it right now because there's still
some things happening. Hey, we can still win a couple
of games and get back in once you get Chlode.
Once we get to week ten, three more weeks go by,
another two three losses from the Giants, that's gonna be it.
They're gonna be onto their backup quarterbacks and Daniel Jones
is not even gonna see the field now.

Speaker 2 (11:41):
Which is why you give Shane and Dable the vote
of confidence. Now. I don't think you need to.

Speaker 3 (11:48):
I think you can keep all that in the house,
but fine, especially after you get run over by Saquon Barkley,
that you've got to make some kind of statement.

Speaker 1 (11:56):
How do you feel I love Joe Shane. How do
you feel about Brian Dable?

Speaker 2 (11:59):
I love Brian. About Daniel Jones? Huh yeah, I mean
things went south last years. What you say I missed
I missed that. Who'd you say? Who you're talking about
I missed that Chase, Daniel. No, Dan, you want to
talk about Molik Neighbors. Let's talk about Malik.

Speaker 3 (12:16):
Oh.

Speaker 1 (12:16):
I love Thelak, I know, I said Daniel Jones and
Daniel jo Yeah, you know. Look, Neighbors is great. Love
loved one our building blocks. It's gonna be great. Wanda
Robinson's terrific too. Like what we have going on the
defensive line is really good. No, Daniel Jones, Yes, you
don't hope for Kyvon Thibadeau to continue to be a
really good player.

Speaker 3 (12:32):
Will start pulling up their phones like they're at a concert,
only it's not the flashlight, but it's pictures of Daniel Jones.

Speaker 2 (12:38):
What about Daniel Jones, I know what you're talking about. Well,
quarterback of the team. The guy gave him a lot
of money.

Speaker 1 (12:43):
I know you're talking about. You know, guy dresses like
a pirate on our team. Pirate Steve Now, I don't
know what it is. He dresses like a pirate every
I don't know what you're talking about.

Speaker 3 (12:51):
I know it's the Halloween season. You want to talk
about the devil and Daniel Webster.

Speaker 2 (12:55):
Let's go exit up out of Fresco ex swollen. That's
it for a.

Speaker 1 (13:03):
With Mike Harmon. Suddenly everybody's thinking back. I remember did
Devil and Daniel Webster in seventh grade? Joe coming up next.

(14:53):
Curry Blazers namely the.

Speaker 2 (14:57):
Kind of just watching. That's kind of how it's going.

Speaker 1 (14:59):
Yeah, but big night tonight the seventy six Ers lose
Opening Night to the Bucks. They play without Joel Embiid.
There's a lot of drama going on right there. Also
Clippers on top of the Suns right now ninety one
eighty four, six minutes to go in the fourth quarter.
But let's break down what we've seen so far the
first two nights. Joining us down the hot line another year.

(15:21):
Another longtime friend of the show, Fox Sports one NBA insider.

Speaker 2 (15:26):
He's on Twitter at Rick Buker. It is Rick Puker.
What's happening, Buddy? Happening Opening Night? Part two?

Speaker 4 (15:34):
You or were you? Where do you guys been? You're
a day late? The season started yesterday?

Speaker 2 (15:40):
No, it didn't that.

Speaker 3 (15:41):
That Nick Celtics game was the final preseason game. Yeah, yeah,
you thought he was gonna find your number yesterday.

Speaker 1 (15:49):
No, no, final preseason game, ye say, luckily, you know, hey,
the Knicks know how you have to defend the three
a little bit better.

Speaker 2 (15:57):
So it's good to know that game closed down the
fourth though.

Speaker 4 (16:01):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, all that. All that. By the way,
what do you think is more painful to watch the
s Portland Trail Blazers or Mason Plumbley shooting seats us?

Speaker 1 (16:11):
Ooh wow, you know what, I'm gonna have to stick
with the Blazers because the beginning of the hour, Harmon said, hey,
here's your score. You know, the Warriors up by twenty
seven over the Blazer in the fourth quarter, And I said,
you know, That's gonna be a very popular sentence this
year in the NBA. He said what I said, team
blank blank blank up by large number over Portland.

Speaker 2 (16:32):
That's gonna be a very common phrase all season long.

Speaker 4 (16:35):
Probably the Washington Wizards as well. Those are two very
challenged teams. And by the way, Mason Plumbley four for
six from the retro line, Yeah, what I is what
I've got. So yeah, it's not it's I mean, it's
not pretty. It is not pretty, but it's effective. So
we'll go with it. And we cannot say that about
the Portland Trailblazer.

Speaker 3 (16:55):
You're pretty nor effective.

Speaker 1 (16:58):
I will look, we'll get to the Lakers to embed
in a second. But look, you know, coming off of
last night, since you so definitely brought it up, you know,
I said, I don't know how much trouble The Knicks
looked like they were having with their new players and assimilating.
They shot pretty well, but.

Speaker 2 (17:13):
The Celtics just didn't miss.

Speaker 1 (17:15):
Like, I don't know that I can take anything away
from that game other than wow.

Speaker 2 (17:19):
The Celtics are really motivated to play that game.

Speaker 1 (17:21):
And thanks Steve Kerr for motivating, motivating Jason Tatum for
this season.

Speaker 4 (17:25):
Yeah, I'm not gonna I'm not gonna say the Holy
Olympic thing is going to be the driving force. It
might be for a game or two, but I don't
and particularly when they play the Warriors.

Speaker 1 (17:34):
Maybe.

Speaker 4 (17:35):
But I look, I think Jayson Tatum did some clearly
did some work on his on his three point shooting.
It was eight pri eleven in the game. His stroke
looked completely different. I was really impressed. But no, Look,
this is my I. As you guys know, I've been

(17:57):
pretty pretty bullish on the for a little bit over
a year now, Excited about what they have, excited about
what they're building. But this was my concern as I
watched them in the preseason, which is that the cost
of getting the cost of getting Karl Anthony Towns and

(18:18):
free agency, they lost Isaiah Hartenstein, Julius Randall, and Dante
de Vincenzo, And even though Julius didn't necessarily show it
in their opening games, those are three out of what
I would say are the four toughest players that the
Knicks had on their roster last year. And this was

(18:39):
the type of game where you kind of had to
dig in and they didn't have anybody who was willing
or able to do that. Dylan Brunston obviously is tough
in his own way, but I mean guys who are
just going to do the blue collar work, and when
you need to really get into guys defensively and kind
of change the momentum of the game. You know, Carl

(19:00):
Anthony Towns is going to have to understand that he's
going to have to be a more physical presence, he's
going to have to be a better rebounder, he's going
to have to do more work in the paint. And
I didn't see a whole of that, a whole lot
of that. Now, all that said, this is what the
Celtics have as an advantage over the Nicks is just

(19:21):
the Knicks aren't just small because Carl Anthony Towns is
their center and Mitchell Robinson is injured. I mean, you
look across the board compared to the Boston Celtics, Dylan
Bunsen is an undersized point guard, Josh Hart is an
undersized or best average shooting guard, Michale Bridges undersized wing

(19:43):
og and a nuby and an Obie's undersized power forward.
And you're going up against the team that, even without
Christops for zingis at four. Out of those five positions,
they've got like six, five, six, six, six, eight, sixty
nine guys, And so they were just shooting over the
top of the Knicks. And look, if the Celtics shoot

(20:09):
nearly fifty percent from three and they take sixty a game.
If they do that, I don't know that they lose
a game this year. But I don't expect there that
that is going to happen. I think they got on
a heater, and I think that the Knicks right now
is trying to figure out what is our what what
is our calend, particularly when it comes to the Boston Like,

(20:30):
where's our advantage against Boston? And I would say it
should be Karl Anthony town with the way they're constituted,
because if you watch that game, anybody who had Al
Horford on them, they they torched Al Horstwood consistently. They
needed this game to be close and be able to

(20:51):
take advantage of the Karl Anthony Towns matchup, and they
simply couldn't get there because it was it was, it
was out of hand fairly early. So I do think
there's some issues there, but and I do think that
Boston is the team to beat and they're going to
be tough even without Forzeingis. But I don't take last

(21:12):
night as a full reflection of where either team is
for the better part of the season.

Speaker 3 (21:19):
Yeah, I was telling Smith to take the one line
out of that the Celtics will not lose a game
this season.

Speaker 2 (21:23):
Tweet that out at Rick Baker.

Speaker 3 (21:26):
But you talked about heart and determination, toughness, all of
those things, Nick Joe. Meanwhile, the NBA can investigate the
participation of one Joe l embiid are we opening up
you know the Pandora's box here when we start talking about.

Speaker 4 (21:44):
This, Yes, yes we are. And can we just say
it's from until further notice just because of last night.
It's not nix yo, it's nick Oh.

Speaker 2 (21:56):
Okay, it's okay, it's okay. We were looking past them
to the Pacers on Friday night. It's fine. We're looking
at the Celtics opening night.

Speaker 4 (22:07):
It's fine, Nick oh, all right. So yeah, when it
comes to Joel mb it's a weird Honestly, it's a
weird report in that there they're going to investigate the
fact that he's missing time. What are you investigating? The

(22:28):
report doesn't say, like, what is the issue here. I'm
sure that Philadelphia seventy six ers want him playing and
are not sitting him to open the season for again,
what what are you investigating? What? What is what would
be the purpose of doing that now? I do think

(22:49):
that it does raise a great issue because you've got
Paul George, you're adding to the equation, and you've got
Joel and b. Paul George is supposed to supposedly going
to miss time. He's not going to play back to back.
I know that we discount the regular season now, but
when you're taking players that are that instrumental and have

(23:12):
never played meaningful to games together ever, and you have
your eye on winning a championship, I don't see how
that's possible. I mean, it's the investigation for me would be,
are you guys just conceding that you're not going to
win a title this year? That would be my investigations.
They would they would be asking that question because I

(23:33):
just don't see how you get there if you were
going to load management, load manage these guys to this degree,
and there's no look Envy's history would tell you that.
I understand why you're concerned about him being able to
make it through a season. What I don't understand is

(23:55):
why he played in the Olympics and there wasn't any
talk about protecting him then, and then supposedly he had
a great summer preparing for training camp, and there was
no indication that there was any injury or set back
during training camp. So how did we get to a

(24:16):
place where we weren't, like, weren't expecting that he was
not going to be ready for the start of the season.
I guess that would be my investigation. But investigation has
such a negative like we're suspicious of what they're doing.
I would just say, you know, the league is wants

(24:36):
to look into what happened here, and even that, like,
what's the league going to do? What are they what
are they looking for? I would the people who should
be investigating it or asking questions are the Philadelphia seventy
six Spans, because there was no indication from the team

(24:56):
that this was going to be the state of affairs,
and it's far as I can tell, like their fans
are the only ones that are are put at a
disadvantage as a result of this decision.

Speaker 1 (25:10):
I'm I'm Rick Buker investigator. You tell me the truth, right,
now with a big hat on, got the got the
fedora on. You tell the big long trench coat. Yeah,
you tell me what happened now?

Speaker 4 (25:21):
Oh yeah, yeah, no, I'm I'm all that. And gump shoes.
Don't you have you have to have gump shoes, right sure?

Speaker 1 (25:26):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3 (25:29):
No, I'm an investigator in the big city that is
following a guy you've been missing work and there you
are go karting.

Speaker 4 (25:36):
Do I get the big magnifying glass too? Actually? Actually,
you know what it's uh, if I could live the
Colombo life, I'd be okay with that. In fact, probably
been accused of that sometimes, Like where Nuker? Where are
you going with this question? I'll figure it out eventually.

Speaker 2 (25:58):
He's the Columbo of NBA.

Speaker 1 (26:00):
Inside is Rick Buger our guest here that Jason Smith
show with Mike Carmon. All right, so investigate this Rick.
We watched the debut of Bronnie James last night. He
played three minutes alongside lebron It was about a perfect
a debut as the Lakers could expect. The Lakers played well,
there was no drama. Is this kind of how we're
gonna see it going forward? Hey, you'll play a few

(26:20):
minutes here and there, then slowly into the G League
when they start playing, because I feel like it's gotta
kind of be a game by game thing, and it's
gonna be little bits of Bronny for a little while.

Speaker 4 (26:31):
I hope not. I hope not. I mean the whole thing,
and I wish you could tell it. Like with Tant,
they just basically said, Okay, Shack, you gotta say a
few words, and then we're not gonna talk about this anymore.

Speaker 2 (26:43):
Yeah, let's go back to Anthony Davis and talk about him.

Speaker 4 (26:46):
They took a hard left turn. I mean, Chuck didn't
say anything, Kenny didn't say anything. They just let Shack
say a few words and then and then they moved on.
And I feel as if we all should and that
we will look back at this. We will look back
at this, you know, years from now, and the takeaway
will be, man, lebron had so much power and influence

(27:12):
that he got his kids traded and I mean, excuse me,
got his kids drafted, and then got him into the
first regular season game so that they could be the
first father son duo to do that both in the
preseason and a regular season game. Because there's no other

(27:34):
reason for Bronni to be there if there's no reason
for them to have drafted him out of USC. There's
nothing you did at USC, there's nothing you did in
the summer league. There's nothing that he did in the
preseason that would suggest that he deserves to be coming
into a game in the second quarter. And the fact
that he only played three minutes was the damning part.

(27:54):
It was like, we're just doing this to say that
we set the records. That's it. You know. It's almost
like you know the Guinness Book of World Records, where
people just kind of do they go hunting for things
that they can do like ten thousand times so that
they can get their name in the book. That's what
this fields like. And I'm not even field like, that's

(28:17):
that's what this this was. And so I could only hope,
like for every other guy on that Lakers team and
for JJ Reddick authority and credibility, that we're not going
to continue with this now. It's so it worked out
the Minnesota decided to come not come out and play hard,

(28:40):
and Anthony Edwards as much of a knucklehead as we've
ever seen him, and so they had a lead they had,
they had a little bit of a cushion. You could
tell as soon as brought it came in, the momentum
completely changed. But I just I look, it's not it's
it's it's not fair to anyone. And look, all the

(29:03):
power to Lebron that he was able to do it,
but I really think that it's a disservice to the
game the one And people will say, well, there's there's
nepotism all over the NBA. There sure is, there's no question.

Speaker 1 (29:15):
You know.

Speaker 4 (29:15):
The one place that it never touched, though, was on
the court. No matter who you were, no matter who
your dad was, no matter who you were related you
were related to, you couldn't get on the floor. That
was sacred ground. And I feel like that is what
has been viol violated as a strong word, but I

(29:37):
think that's that's what's been broken here because I've never
I've never seen that. You know, plenty of like video coordinator, guys, assistant, gms,
like the front office, everywhere, right, it happens. I'm not
saying that it doesn't happen, but the floor was the
one place where you were only there because you you

(29:57):
earned it and you deserve to be there and there
was a clear reason that someone believed that you were
capable of helping the team win. And no one can
tell me that Bronnie James was on the floor because
the thought was by JJ Reddick or Rob Plinka or
anybody else that he was there because he was capable

(30:19):
of helping them win.

Speaker 1 (30:21):
He's on Twitter at Rick Buker. That is at Rick Buker,
Fox Sports One Insider. Latest on the Ball podcast, What
the NBA Can Learn from the w NBA Finals. It
is a great listen and it's not the obvious. Hey,
if you let the star players travel five steps on a.

Speaker 2 (30:38):
Final play, it's great. No, no, no, much more nuanced
than that.

Speaker 1 (30:41):
Again, a great listen on the Ball podcast, What the
NBA Can Learn from the w NBA Finals. Rick is
always buddy, appreciate it. Looking forward to another great year. Man,
We'll talk to you.

Speaker 2 (30:52):
Thank you, Welcome home, Rick, See I mix up. This
goes on a T shirt. We're looking we were looking past.

Speaker 1 (31:02):
We got caught looking past the Celtics, the NBA champions,
to the real game, which is the Pacers on Friday night.

Speaker 2 (31:07):
We got looking forward to that Battle of Halliburton. Yeah. Also,
how many times. Steve Kurd though, how many times I
have to see that three? That them Pard three?

Speaker 1 (31:16):
That when he closed his eyes and threw it up
over his head, And man, how many times I can
see that on Friday Night A lot time.

Speaker 3 (31:23):
I know you're gonna hear it at least fifteen times
because you can't play the baseball highlights till the game
ends time, not to.

Speaker 1 (31:29):
Find out what's trending in the wide world of sports.
We have a producer, Brianna, who is a huge Suns fan.
We have hosts and update anchor Monci Belanos who was
a huge Clippers fan who just threw a pen.

Speaker 2 (31:46):
At I was a full on highlighter man. That was
a thick boy. The two of them are best friends,
or should I say not anymore? As the Clippers trail.

Speaker 3 (31:55):
The Suns with under two minutes left to say n
updated version of friends like Cala, Thorne and Zendea.

Speaker 2 (32:02):
That's a good event. Yeah, I like that for a
random reference.

Speaker 1 (32:05):
Yeah no, this is more refsir, refsir, real employees of
Fox Sports Radio. What it is?

Speaker 2 (32:11):
Refser? Listen, I just want James Harden to take the charge.
Just take the charge. You were there and then you
got out of the way, you were there. Why did
you just take the charge on Kevin Durrett.

Speaker 6 (32:22):
So Kevin Durant makes the play against the n one. Yes,
the Suns are beating the Clippers one on one to
ninety nine with ninety seconds to go in the game.
James Harden did have sixteen points in the third quarter alone.
He's got twenty four now, twelve rebounds and seven assists.
And they, I don't know, did something. They just lost

(32:42):
the ball. Oh it is Devin Booker filed out. Devin
Booker has filed out.

Speaker 2 (32:46):
You hear that break? Devin Booker has filed out. All right,
let's check in out games. These two are best friends.
They location together. They went to all the games.

Speaker 1 (32:56):
Yeah, they flew up to an Oakland A's game for
reasons passing understand, And I wanted to say goodbye to
the sea.

Speaker 6 (33:02):
She's in here now.

Speaker 2 (33:03):
She thinks we're gonna fight. Now they're gonna fist fight. No,
that's gonna fist fight.

Speaker 1 (33:06):
So that was gonna rap the possum that she took
back from the A's stadium is gonna throw it at months.

Speaker 2 (33:13):
He's been raising it as her own. Yes, this guys,
Yes we're not.

Speaker 6 (33:17):
We're not friends right now. We'll be friends in ninety seconds,
but right now we are enemies. The Warriors, they cruise
passed the Trailblazers. That game just ended one thirty nine
to one oh four. James Harden just hit a shot.

Speaker 2 (33:29):
Tie game. Clipper Sons one on one, one minute to go.

Speaker 6 (33:32):
Steph Curry just have a triple double seventeen points, nine
rebounds and ten assists the Grizzlies. They edged the Jobs
one twenty six to one twenty four. John Muran with
a double double twenty two points and ten assists. The
Hornets top the Rockets one ten to one oh five,
and the Pelicans had a one twenty three.

Speaker 2 (33:47):
To one eleven when over the Bulls.

Speaker 6 (33:51):
ESPN reported that Pelicans guard to Jean tim Murray is
feared to have a fractured left hand. He had fourteen points,
ten assists, and eight rebounds in their season open victory.
The Hawks held on to beat the Nuts one twenty
to one sixteen. The Magic defeated the Heat one sixteen
to ninety seven. Yimmy Butler, my guy one of a
three points by the says. The Bucks outscored the seventy
six ers one twenty four to one oh nine. The

(34:12):
Calves crushed the Raptors one thirty six to one oh
six behind a thirty one piece from Donovan Mitchell, and
the Pacers took down the Pistons WAF fifteen to.

Speaker 2 (34:20):
One oh nine.

Speaker 6 (34:21):
Kate Cunningham, in a losing effort, was the leading score
of the game twenty eight points, five rebounds.

Speaker 2 (34:26):
And eight assists.

Speaker 6 (34:27):
And in the NFL, Panther is going to start Bryce
Young for a week eight against the Broncos. Andy Dalton
has a spring thumb following a car accident yesterday. The
Browns are going to start Jameis Winston at quarterback against
the Ravens on Sunday because Dorian Thompson Robinson is dealing
with a GM finger on his throwing hand.

Speaker 4 (34:42):
The Tins are.

Speaker 6 (34:43):
Leaning towards starting quarterback Mason Rudolph once again this week
as Will Levis continues to rehab his shoulder injury. No
practice today for quarterback Jaden Daniels as he continues to
deal with his rib injury, but Colt's running back Jonathan
Taylor did practice and they feel good about his chances
to play this weekend against the Texans and in college football,
the Mountain West is and talks to add Grand Canyon
as a non football member.

Speaker 1 (35:05):
There, add the entire Grand Canyon, the entire You can
play all the games that non football, all the day,
working really cheap.

Speaker 2 (35:13):
Yeah yeah, but.

Speaker 1 (35:15):
Getting getting to the field, that's a tough walk. Clippers
all the way down. That's a tough walk, all the
way down to the bottom of the Grand Canyon.

Speaker 6 (35:22):
Clippers up one three, one to one against the Suns.

Speaker 2 (35:24):
You want to rent to Burrow? Thank you.

Speaker 1 (35:27):
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmon live from the

from the game of basketball. That's next right here, Jason
and Mike Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (35:55):
The Jason Smith Show with My best friend Mike Harmon
live for the Tirack dot Com Videos.

Speaker 2 (36:02):
Night two of the.

Speaker 1 (36:02):
NBA Season ten games, Full drama. We got two best
friends here at work, Ready to fight over the outcome
of the Sons in the Clippers game, which is an
overtimes one six Phoenix with the lead. But it's important

(36:24):
a lot of times. And I like that we do this,
that we have appreciation moment for athletes that are accomplishing things.
It's not and it's not anything more than they understand
that sometimes the road to return is a really big one.
And two athletes back tonight playing their first game in
a while. Obviously Lonzo Ball got a lot of attention tonight.

Speaker 2 (36:45):
Yeah, that eighty eight Bulls win.

Speaker 1 (36:47):
Yes, Okay, that's not what the final score was, but
if you go to ESPN, that's what it tells you
the final scores. It's not they lost lost to the Pelicans.
It's big who were without Zion And I don't think
the end Jontay Murray got hurt. And uh, I don't
think they had Baron Davis either. It was a very,
you know, very difficult time. Didn't have David West, uh,

(37:08):
a lot of players. But Lonzo Ball, who had missed
nearly the last three years due to various knee and
foot injuries, came back tonight, played thirteen minutes off the bench,
scored five points four Assists had an alley oop to
Zach Levine, who is on the Cooper Cup Revenge tour
over the last couple of days. We's on come get me.

Speaker 2 (37:28):
And uh it was it was it's good to see
him back. He's only twenty six years old.

Speaker 1 (37:33):
And boy, you just think back to the you know
how much of the shoes have to do with what
happened and when he got drafted and Magic Johnson sat
him down and said, we're going to see your jersey
up here after and the rafters, we're gonna you're gonna
retire as an all time Laker. And it's three teams
and three years not playing later for him and for
him to come back, I mean, that's a long time

(37:54):
to be away to think I still want to get
back to the.

Speaker 2 (37:56):
Other keep battling it right, very easy.

Speaker 3 (37:59):
I mean money in the bank most likely, unless he's
got to pay whatever debt's happened off of reconciliation for
the shoe line and the lack of delivery of those,
but enough to where you'd say, I don't need to
go through this rehab process again. Right, The number of
setbacks that he had, so yeah, that's a really big
deal in Chicago. They've been anxiously awaiting this moment. Team's

(38:24):
not going to be very good. He's just saying, I
hope I can contribute some meaningful minutes and get back
to some semblance of what I was.

Speaker 1 (38:32):
The other return, which goes under the radar, which is
really weird considering how much Front page news he was
was coming back, was John Morant. And Morant comes back
and plays his first game for the Grizzlies and twenty
two points, ten assists, five rebounds. Grizzlies beat the Jazz
one twenty six, one twenty four. And this is where

(38:53):
you hope that when you have as much time away
from the game as John Morant has had for injury, suspense,
everything else, is that you hope with time comes clarity.
And he's young enough that that you hope it's there
that look, I understand what I had, and I understand
from a couple of different ways how close you can
be to losing it sure, and that now he is

(39:14):
back and we see him being a different, more mature
guy over the course of this year, still being a
huge superstar in the game, because wow, the guy is
so athletically talented and he's so much fun to watch play.
And that's the big hope is that, Hey, you know,
when you nearly get something taken away from you in
a couple of different ways, all right, Hey, I gain
an appreciation for that, and I understand that I got

(39:35):
to build it back up to where I'm at, And
I really hope that's what we get from John Morant
in a great start form tonight on the court at
least as a Grizzlies go to.

Speaker 3 (39:42):
One and oh yeah, nice effort from him. They got
good balance up top and to get the w off
the jump. You know, to your point, he almost lost
it in two very distinctly different ways. And we you know,
you have the concern on the court based on the
way he flies around. It's the best of the highlights.
Anytime he takes a bump, there's that moment of uh oh,

(40:05):
but yeah, human highlight reel and one of the guys
the game really wanted to push like.

Speaker 2 (40:11):
That's the other thing.

Speaker 3 (40:12):
It's a huge win for the NBA, especially if he
becomes a you know, the cautionary tale of how quickly
things could potentially.

Speaker 2 (40:19):
Go sideways for you, but how you can get back
and pull it together. Much like Michael Vick became, you know,
in a.

Speaker 3 (40:29):
Kind of similar circumstance, you know when you talk about
the dog fighting, and he came back to another one
hundred million dollar contract, rehabilitated and does a lot of
work in his post playing career. So John Morant, you know,
one of those guys that could teach some lessons as well.

Speaker 2 (40:44):
And the NBA is going.

Speaker 1 (40:45):
Man, we thought we were gonna have Zion and Joby
this rivalry for a dozen years, and now it's like
we just hope to get on the flow to the
guys on the car and he can get it. Tonight,
Exit out about a Fresco exit Swelling Dome. Jason Smith,
Mike Harmon, Coming up next, a big double shot for
NFL for you. We break down the big trade of
the day, and boy do I have a great NFL
trivia question for you. That's next right here, Jason and
