Speaker 2 (00:22):
Ever give us you're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (00:29):
Greetings and welcome in second half of the show begins.
Disco ball still down and spinning. The marching band is
out in full force. We're here partying with you as
we begin in early Saturday morning, East Coast, nine o'clock
here on the West Coast. We appreciate you being with us,
at being part of the extended family at Fox Sports Radio,
(00:49):
giving us a few minutes of your time as you're
on the highways and byways. Final throws of summer vacations
for some of you, I know, school starts early. For
some maybe just a quick getaway, maybe sitting out with
a fire in the backyard and just enjoying the stars
and the sounds of our beautiful voices.
Speaker 4 (01:08):
Oh the way, how was fantastic for I?
Speaker 5 (01:10):
Enjoyed the hell out of it. I gotta say. You
can find me at Mike Harmon.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
On Letterboxed, the app where you rate movies, which I'm
trying to catch up on everything that we do because
my daughters and I we see a lot of movies
between the streaming services. And you know, I am not
shilling for them, not a paid promotion, but we we
get great value out of the AMC monthly subscription because
(01:35):
you get four movies a week, aren't he Oh wow?
So we go like it'll be a hey, you know
if I if I work from from my home, there's
a theater about a mile away. My daughter will be like,
I got off work on Boord, you want to go
see a movie? It's like sure, anyway we go.
Speaker 6 (01:52):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
So we see a lot of things that aren't, you know,
necessarily top of mind for some some indie movies, some
of the lower budget horror movies that get their two
weeks in the theaters whatever. But fantastic for ten am
this morning capacity crowd. I think there might have been
like five empty seats on the I'm telling you, it
(02:12):
was awesome and the crowd was into it. A lot
of big laughs, a lot of great one liners. Look,
you know, from working with me and all of us
in sports talk radio, no matter which capacity you're filling
here as part of the team, we're all a bit
snarky and sarcastic and snarky about how we go through
and appreciate our films. Doesn't mean we don't love them,
(02:35):
but we're gonna find that one thing to kind of
mock along the way. That's just what we do. This
was just dead solid, perfect set, good for you.
Speaker 5 (02:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:45):
So I don't know the comics really well, I was
not a huge comics guy, and Archie Comics, Batman and
a few other things Fantastic For occasionally would find its
way into I was.
Speaker 6 (02:55):
A comics fantastic for a guy, were Yeah, I was,
I like the Fantastic four.
Speaker 4 (03:01):
Yeah, well then I got older, right exactly.
Speaker 3 (03:03):
No, no, no, but I mean look everything old is
do again. I mean I've been celebrated.
Speaker 4 (03:07):
Richie rich was my face.
Speaker 5 (03:09):
That was a good one.
Speaker 4 (03:09):
Yeah, yeah, I know that.
Speaker 5 (03:10):
Look any of the ones that they sold, you know,
like in the larger format, right, so it would be
the small compact, but there'd be like eight eight issues
packed into one that would be at the grocery store.
Speaker 3 (03:23):
That's where you found that. We found value because mom
had to have value. The single comics and going to
the comics store that was not it that added up
too much. But the you know digest that they put
out quarterly, that would be like four bucks, like, yeah,
you get one of those. So we had some of
that and plus the trading guard money and whatever when
we were doing shows would occasionally get funneled in. But
(03:44):
Fantastic Four was it one that I traversed you off
and I knew the basics and here and I think
you know with with no spoilers on the film as
a whole, if you don't know the background, you get
a cursory thing and it's like, let's get to.
Speaker 5 (03:58):
The story right, So like if you're in, you're in.
Speaker 3 (04:03):
Casting was great when you get Richie from the Bear
in there as the thing I wins. You get a
couple of other high, high profile celebrities in TV and
film that find their way into it. Again no spoiler alert,
but they steal their scenes. Pedro Pascal as good as
the lead. Vanessa Kirby's great.
Speaker 4 (04:23):
That's a lot on him this week too, well, he's everywhere.
Speaker 5 (04:26):
There's that all hands.
Speaker 4 (04:27):
He with the co host and stuff.
Speaker 5 (04:28):
Well, you know, the excuse is that he's got an
anxiety things.
Speaker 4 (04:32):
He's a good looking guy. He's a good looking guy.
Speaker 3 (04:34):
He is fifty to fifty one and now getting the
leading roles. It's curious because he's got a movie that's
coming out with Joaquin Phoenix. I think next week. There's
a movie that he came out a couple of weeks
ago that we talked about on the show a little
bit called Materialists.
Speaker 4 (04:50):
Okay.
Speaker 5 (04:50):
He plays a.
Speaker 3 (04:51):
Guy who goes to a wedding as brother's wedding, which
was set up by Dakota Johnson, who works for a
high end matchmaking service. And then you've got Chris Evans,
her old boyfriend Captain America, who's part of the mixed
struggling actor kind of thing, and it's kind of their
web while she's doing her job with high you know,
high high.
Speaker 5 (05:12):
Influence of it.
Speaker 4 (05:13):
I don't know any of these movies, but.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
He legitimately maybe half of the Cineplex maybe film starring
Pedro Pascal.
Speaker 4 (05:20):
Yeah wow.
Speaker 5 (05:21):
Not to mention his work in The Mandalorian and everything else.
Speaker 4 (05:24):
You're all over, you're on top of it.
Speaker 3 (05:26):
Well, I mean pop culture and sports intersection. Powerful and
attractive man, always looking to expand my horizons and like
hate inform and raging, you know, engage our audience, you.
Speaker 6 (05:37):
Know, speaking about pop culture to you.
Speaker 4 (05:40):
Know, going over sports. When I heard about Hull Covid,
I know.
Speaker 6 (05:43):
You talked a lot about this yesterday and Ozzy Osbourne,
I would say to myself, I wasn't necessarily a wrestling fan,
and I wasn't a heavy metal fan, but yet you
knew those two guys. They superseded their own genre. They
superseded wrestling and heavy metal, and you got to know
them outside.
Speaker 4 (06:03):
So you know that that hit me hard. I just
wanted to go ahead and say that about it.
Speaker 5 (06:06):
No, absolutely right.
Speaker 3 (06:07):
We had the three because you have Malcolm Jamal nights
The Cosby Show, and he's done a lot of things
and and he's been involved with a lot of other projects,
but certainly known for that child actor and they had
done a lot of great work ghosting too.
Speaker 6 (06:24):
I was just there last year. It was just yeah,
thank you, watch out for the you know the undertow.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
The undertow for sure, Yeah, but you know, not to
labor the the Hogan Ozzy thing. But you know, it's
a celebration of their lives and careers. Most specifically when
you look at the Hogan side, because there's Complications's no question.
Speaker 4 (06:45):
Do you know what I read about him? That's him
and Andre the Giant.
Speaker 6 (06:50):
And again I'm not the wrestling guy, so you would
know better than I. In their match or whatever you
want to call it. They had thirty three million viewers.
Speaker 3 (07:00):
That's so many three that's Silver Dome Detroit.
Speaker 5 (07:04):
Say, that's ninety three thousand in attendance.
Speaker 6 (07:08):
Think about what sports gets now in millions of viewers.
That's more than a base MLB, NBA, NHL game all combined.
Speaker 3 (07:19):
No, I mean it's it's better than anything but the
Super Bowl, right, I mean, like when you get down
to it, But you know, it's it's the kind of
thing that you look at the history and largest of
it all. Like I for those that missed the show yesterday,
you can podcast what we did. Dan Byer was in
with me yesterday. I started thinking about it on the
drive home. I know Ben Mallor followed up and he
(07:41):
did a lot of wrestling, And you know Ben, you know,
if I say I'm cynical, sarcastic, Ben might be another
degree or two beyond me, and and he would take
that with with the full love that's intended. Ben was
just like me, like a little kid, because that's what
he did with his brothers. That's what I did with
my brothers. Like we go to the matches. My first
(08:02):
I gave the full so.
Speaker 5 (08:05):
I still do. We went to WrestleMania this year in Vegas.
Speaker 4 (08:08):
Wow.
Speaker 5 (08:08):
I met up with my brothers and we.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
Went, and we've gone several times. You went in Dallas
a few years back. It's a hell of a time.
And look my old thing. And you know this from
knowing me and being part of this network and working
as we have live events with me and my kids,
my friends, my family, whoever wants along for the ride.
There's very few places in this world where all the
(08:32):
noise stops and the energy goes in the same place.
One of the things I love about working and coming
in here to the Fox Sports Radio studios. If we
don't let it into our conversation and the energy in
the room, it doesn't find it right. Whatever's going on
the fire on the mountain could be there. If we
don't bring it in, we're good, right, and we can
(08:53):
have those conversations and enjoy our space and our time,
whether it's sports at the cross section to entertainment and
ever anything else. And that's what for Ozzy Osbourne. I
saw him in ninety one.
Speaker 6 (09:05):
Those was the first friends I made.
Speaker 3 (09:08):
I saw him on the No More Tiers tour at
a little place in Chicago and I was standing in
line for a record release. You go back to ninety
one ninety two, some of the seminal albums in rock
and heavy metal came out right. You had Pearl Jams ten,
you had the Black Album by Metallica, you had No
(09:29):
More Tears from Ozzie had Use Your Illusion one and
two from Guns and Roses and so on. And you
used to have to go for record release and they
do a bunch of giveaways or whatever. That's how I
made my first friends that, you know, not the people
that I already knew coming in from high school, but
on the college campus at Northwestern and then we all
went to the show together all those years ago. With wrestling,
(09:51):
it's been in and out over the course of my life,
sometimes more in than other. We had our connection with
Fox for years where we were carrying it on Friday nights, SmackDown,
so you know, we we'd have some cross section. We
have some guests now and again, uh that you got
a chance to interview and chop it up with. So
you know, there's that lifelong love. But those are some
(10:13):
of the first events that our parents trusted us to go.
Speaker 5 (10:17):
Oh they dropped us off and let us go. Right.
Speaker 6 (10:19):
I grew up with kids that just were so in
the wrestling back then. I mean it was that that
was a long time ago. You know, maybe it was
more popular than I guess it is. Oh, it's a
monster now, Yeah that was Yeah, Arnie, Arnie.
Speaker 5 (10:33):
It's a whole other world now.
Speaker 3 (10:34):
But you know, if it doesn't happen, And they did
that on SmackDown tonight, the ten bells salute and some
of the speeches of whatever the issue.
Speaker 4 (10:43):
You see Rick Flair just just losing it.
Speaker 5 (10:46):
When it was no but like that that was the immediacy, right.
Speaker 3 (10:49):
They got him on TMZ and yeah, look, this is
the guy that's had myriad health problems and has been
knocking on Heaven's door a few times or Hell's you know,
depending on your point of view. And we are but
you know, just the idea of like he's seen the
other side, and he's come back and they've watched how
many of their contemporaries have passed away right through the years.
(11:11):
There's very few of those guys from the early WrestleMania.
Speaker 5 (11:14):
Those old territory that are left.
Speaker 3 (11:17):
So you know, when another one passes, you know that
circle gets a little bit closer and the check ins
become that much more frequent. And so you know, when
you've got forty forty plus years, go back to Rocky
Rocky three when he was Thunderlips. You know that was
you know, when it went to that next level. And
so for all those years, and I know people that
(11:39):
knew Ozzie and Hogan only because of their reality shows.
Speaker 4 (11:42):
So that's sure.
Speaker 5 (11:45):
Sure.
Speaker 3 (11:45):
I mean he helped make the movie right. The wrestling
people didn't want him to do it. There was a
lot of fight. He was a would be you know,
actor and bodybuilder or whatever else, took that role and
WrestleMania five right that you got him, and you got
mister t you got my gal Rowdy, Roddy Piper. We
all steal from it, whether it's conscious or not, all
(12:07):
of us on the in behind a microphone. There's someone
in the wrestling world or the larger broadcast, whether it's
you know, you talk to the historical stuff, the Vin
Scullies and wherever you grew up maybe And for me,
look at the characters I had. I had Harry Carey
and and Ken Harrelson or two of my guys right
and growing up in Chicago, so all of that, like
(12:30):
Rowdy Roddy Piper, the Road Warriors, Rick Flair, like some
of Tom Brady.
Speaker 4 (12:34):
Haulk Hogan was like the Tom Brady.
Speaker 5 (12:36):
No, but that's just it.
Speaker 3 (12:37):
Even if those guys all had personal beef with them,
you saw one after another come.
Speaker 5 (12:42):
To the come out of the woodworks to respect.
Speaker 3 (12:44):
I mean, I just remember, like to put it in perspective, right,
We started by talking about movies and and what we
do and my love of that that kind of experience,
especially when the crowd's really into it, like you get
at a wrestling place. Hell, when we went to Dallas,
we didn't have a car. We went and we were
staying at a hotel. We took an uber. My brother
had one of those insulated bags and we stood in
(13:05):
a parking spot and we became the life of a
party he had built up around us. Caught people cause
playing and hanging out whatever. But I just remember when
we used to go to the local video store. Maybe
it was a Blockbuster, maybe it was one of your
neighborhood ones that had the cool little chain leak link
thing in the section that you know, you couldn't go
in do whatever. But every week you went and checked
(13:26):
if there was a new wrestling release from Coliseum Video.
Was there, you know, a composite Randy Savage best Matches?
Speaker 5 (13:34):
What did they put out the last wrestle Mania.
Speaker 3 (13:36):
Or whatever the other big pay per view was, or
if it was the the AWA. I know about all
of that stuff. Like every week it was, Hey, we're
gonna go rent a couple of movies. What are you
gonna get wrestling?
Speaker 5 (13:48):
But get a movie?
Speaker 4 (13:50):
Didn't know that, but I knew Julkogan, right, you know.
Speaker 5 (13:53):
That just Daddy transcended it all.
Speaker 6 (13:54):
Trans definitely transcended his own sport. He became bigger than
the sport. He became a movie star, he became an actor,
he became a TV star.
Speaker 4 (14:04):
Everybody knew who Hulk Hogan was and his.
Speaker 6 (14:07):
Look, that certain look to the mustache and the outfit
and ripping the shirt. I mean, it was bigger than life.
I can only imagine man this, but you go.
Speaker 3 (14:15):
Through the the the the acts of his play as well,
and again you know there's negatives in and there'll be
plenty of time to dice that up and plenty of
thos performative.
Speaker 4 (14:27):
To do it after him. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (14:28):
Well, it's it's more theater, I think at this point
than actual concern. But it's it's just the idea of
you know, for him, he had the you know, real American, right,
He's a guy that's noted for three songs. You think
of Ia the Tiger coming out of Rocky three that
he used as one of his first entrances. You have
(14:49):
the I Am a real American, right, the the gold
and red trunks and the boots and everything. And then
you have when he had the nWo, he used Voodoo
Child from Jimmy Hendrix, that notable guitar. When you heard that,
place went nuts, and the nWo faction and the battle
between the WCW and wwe WWF during the the Attitude
(15:14):
era and whatever like that was just a whole other level,
right right, right, chaos right. I mean, look, if you
take it down to a debrass tax, it's part performance
in theater. It's part soap opera and then the sports
spectacle like we were talking about earlier in terms of
what guys use and how they get bigger and keep
(15:35):
their bodies in line to take the bump.
Speaker 5 (15:37):
All of that all these years later.
Speaker 3 (15:39):
I mean, you talk about Hulk Hogan and what he
meant to that industry, sports and entertainment.
Speaker 5 (15:44):
I mean, it's it's immeasurable.
Speaker 6 (15:46):
Yeah, rest in peace, halk. I mean that when that
came down, that was quite the shock, even though they
say he was in bad health.
Speaker 3 (15:52):
No, but that's just it's it's still like you know,
the family members that you know, Hey, it's it's long
suffering whatever, it's still a show and it still sucks.
It allows us to have the moment where we go
and give a hug to our former selves. Right, and
for a minute, I'm a little ten year old, you know,
eleven year old Mikey Harmon getting dropped off in a
sketchy neighborhood to go watch WrestleMania one. So that's where
(16:15):
we have. He's already spanned your in for Jason Smith.
I'm Mike Carmen. As we continue, we will ask Aarnie
the question about his team, whether there's still Super Bowl
favorites or if he's finally opened himself to reality. But first, hey,

Speaker 8 (17:24):
And that's why we have a brand new podcast called
over Promised. You see we're having so much fun in
our two hour show. We never get to everything, honestly,
because this guy will be over promising things we never
have time for.
Speaker 4 (17:36):
Yeah, you blobber list name and me.
Speaker 7 (17:38):
Well you know what it's called over promise. You should
be good at it because you've been over promising women
for years.
Speaker 8 (17:42):
Well, it's a Cavino and Rich after show, and we
want you to be a part of it. We're gonna
be talking sports, of course, but we're also gonna talk
life and relationships. And if Rich and I are arguing
about something or we didn't have enough time, it will
continue on our after show called over Promised. Well, if
you don't get enough Covino and Rich, make sure you
check out over Promise and also uncensored by the way,
so maybe we'll go at it even a little harder.
(18:03):
It's gonna be the best after show podcast of all time.
There you go, over promising. Remember you could see it
on YouTube, but definitely join us. Listen to over Promised
with Cavino and Rich on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts,
or wherever you get your podcasts.
Speaker 3 (18:19):
Welcome back a Fox Sports Radio Jason Smith Hill with me,
Mike Carbon no Jason this week.
Speaker 5 (18:24):
He'll be back next Wednesday.
Speaker 3 (18:26):
It is stead my guy, Arnie Span here with me
today at the Stinking Genius himself at Stink and Genius one,
where you find him every Sunday night alongside Chris Plank
eight to eleven Pacific time. Now, Arnie, Yeah, earlier this week,
your team making some noise, your Miami Dolphins.
Speaker 4 (18:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (18:47):
And as we get ready for the preseason and the
next iteration of things where we're trying to find our contenders,
trying to find those diamonds in the rough that may
come and out perform for marketplace expectations, and I can
tell you with no hesitation, your team is not on
that short list for Yeah.
Speaker 6 (19:08):
You know, for the first time in a long time,
I'm concerned that this might not be our year.
Speaker 5 (19:12):
You know what I mean, that it might not be
your year. Well, let's put that in its basis terms.
Speaker 3 (19:17):
Let's go back to some of the quotes attributed to
your quarterback about trying to get back into camp.
Speaker 5 (19:24):
Remember the end of last.
Speaker 3 (19:25):
Year, your guy Tyreek Hill more or less just said, hey,
you know what, I got other stuff to do about
And then a lot of questions about whether he's going
to get demand to trade, and whether the Dolphins would acquiesce.
You've got questions about Mike McDaniel, You've got questions about
Chris Greer, your roster and moves made, and whether they
(19:47):
can actually challenge the Buffalo Bills a top the fun
and exciting world of the AFC East or the conference
as a whole. So let's go back in time to
a tongue of as he met with the media and
had to try to answer questions about the opportunities. So
(20:09):
he was asked about Tua and their relationship and what
it looks like as we're into camp.
Speaker 9 (20:14):
When you say something like that, it's you don't just
come back from that with hey, my bad, Now you
got you gotta work that that relationship up. You got
to build everything up again. And it's still a work
in progress, not just for me but for everybody. But now,
like I said, he's he's working on himself. He's working
on the things that he say, you know, he says
he wants to get better with and do better on.
(20:35):
So that's the first step to me, and so I
commend him for doing that.
Speaker 3 (20:40):
Long road begins with the first step. But my bad
and the process. Last I saw here by the way
you played, it's the end of July, so what seven
months ago? Yeah, that there's been no level of communication
or reconciliation or working through even just a little bit
of an off sea in throwing, you know, acquaintanceship. Hey,
(21:04):
you know, let's meeting a park. You know when Tom
Brady was doing that during covid' let's just gonna meet,
throwing football around, throw it over that mountain, Arnie, what
are we doing here?
Speaker 4 (21:14):
Yeah? That Not only is it disappointing, it's surprising too.
Speaker 6 (21:18):
I mean, what's this all about? Because Tyreek Hill said
he wanted to go did he take it personally? I'm
talking about Tua. Did you know this is all about?
You know, just the Dolphins were going nowhere last year,
so he was just making some noise. Well he's coming
back this year. It should have been no big thing.
I'm surprised to we are seven months later and he
still doesn't have a really good relationship.
Speaker 4 (21:39):
With Tyreek Hill.
Speaker 6 (21:40):
Now, I know Tyreek Hill must be difficult to get
along with, but the Dolphins are certainly down a big
weapon in John new Smith, who they just pretty much
let go. They traded him, But I mean that Kills, Yeah,
Waddle and Toua should be great this year, but it's
all how well Tyreek Hill's is going to do. And
with h n at the lady back, he'll be the
(22:00):
full time running back. That's good, But I don't know
what they're gonna do about tight end.
Speaker 4 (22:04):
And I read about Waller.
Speaker 6 (22:05):
Being out because physically unable.
Speaker 4 (22:08):
To perform and that shocker.
Speaker 3 (22:10):
Yeah, that's he took the time to heal and still
has it his song.
Speaker 4 (22:17):
With no a fan.
Speaker 6 (22:19):
Being available now, I guess he's gonna end up signing
with maybe Cincinnati or something. We'll see how that works out.
I'm worried about the division being better. Also, I think
the Jets are going to be better. I'm not so
sure about New England. But it could be a tough
road for the Dolphins this year. They could be looking
like a third place finished if they're not on it.
I want to see what's gonna happen with Tyreek Hill
(22:41):
and two and see if they, you know, are on
the same page. Otherwise, losing Smith is that's like ninety
catches a year.
Speaker 4 (22:48):
That's a tough one.
Speaker 3 (22:49):
The losion, well, not just eighty eight catches, a year
ago nearly nine hundred yards eight touchdowns and that you
now have.
Speaker 5 (22:55):
To to be spread out to zero now. But that's
but that's a big thing.
Speaker 3 (23:01):
You got a guy who wasn't playing football as your
number one, Pharaoh Brown's your number two, Jalen Wright Madison, like,
you've got a little bit of depth and guys that
can mix and match alongside eight Chan.
Speaker 5 (23:13):
We talked about him.
Speaker 3 (23:14):
A little bit byron I the last couple of days,
particularly from the fantasy side of what a star he
was with a couple of huge games that he had.
Speaker 5 (23:22):
But you've got to be judicious with the workloads.
Speaker 3 (23:24):
Not all of these guys can go three hundred plus
touches a year and not lose. I mean, when we
look at the rest of this squad, don't well you
bring in West Westbrook Akine is solid.
Speaker 5 (23:38):
Well, but that but that's just it.
Speaker 3 (23:40):
He's actually shown proof of concept. Well, but look, the
long road begins with the first step. A guy's got
to work into his space, right. He didn't come into
the league as a highly heralded prospect, so it built
himself up and that team stunk. Man, he's coming out
of Tennessee. I can't put a lot of blame when
your quarterbacks either doing shovel passes as he's been taken
(24:03):
to the ground, that a return for touchdowns. Back to
the game against Chicago, and I really wanted Will Levis
to throw that football over a mountain, but it didn't.
So like, I take it with a little bit of
a grain of salt that he goes into a place
in theory where at least from an offensive standpoint, Mike
McDaniel and company can draw out the best of him.
Speaker 6 (24:21):
And that's another time McDaniel too well, but he's the
huge billion dollar question. Yeah, but comedy stories have come
out about him, like he's looking like a deer in
the headlights and.
Speaker 4 (24:31):
He doesn't know what's going on.
Speaker 6 (24:33):
It was it what a year ago, a year and
a half ago, where forgot what former players said he
we used to deal with McDaniel. We never even thought
of him as a head coach. He was a numbers
guy out there.
Speaker 3 (24:43):
He was in Nate the Great from Ted Lasson. Yeah,
he could have been a tactical guy behind the scenes.
Then ms he doesn't know what he's doing.
Speaker 6 (24:52):
He's like the chemistry tutor. He looks out there. I
mean Mike Goodness been. Sometimes he just looks like he's
so far over his he doesn't know which way to go.
Speaker 4 (25:02):
I'm not sure he's gonna make it.
Speaker 2 (25:03):
You know.
Speaker 6 (25:04):
My whole thing was when they said that Nick Saban
possibly would come back, and I know he's not. My
thing was, Hey, if if McDaniel doesn't get it done,
Saban would go back to the Dolphins, it'd.
Speaker 4 (25:14):
Be a win and win situation.
Speaker 6 (25:16):
They'll never do that, though, but I think this is
gonna be McDaniel's last year when it said and done.
Speaker 3 (25:21):
It is one of the great what ifs of all time,
both for professional and collegiate football, and a perfect topic
in the July for some the doul drums. We've got
plenty of stories and and you know, you drive me
and hijack me off the road repeatedly, so we never
actually get the straight line to the story's working on.
(25:41):
In between your thirty six toppy six topics with Rotts
Roman numeral subplots. Yeah, you kept sending more. Frostburg looked
at me and goes, okay, like it's a lot. Penmanship's
not bad, though, I give you right, Miss Jones or
whoever was teaching you second grade did a good job
(26:02):
all of that. Say AFC East odds bills minus three
hundred Patriots at plus four seventy five plus five hundred
Dolphins third plus seven hundred plus eight hundred Jets all
the way out at plus sixteen.
Speaker 6 (26:17):
That's ridiculous that they have the Patriots the second favorite
and a big much higher than the Dolphins.
Speaker 4 (26:25):
It's not even close. That's that's crazy why.
Speaker 3 (26:28):
I mean, it shows the last year, but they actually
showed a lot of room for improvement to where you
look at what's around Drake May with a grown up coach,
I mean Mike Brabel, you know, calling out the reporter
high Ben Bollin, and you know, trying to add some
level of culture and that you trust that he can
do it versus what you've got. Like he's got proof
(26:50):
of concept from his last stop. You don't have that
from Mike McDaniel.
Speaker 5 (26:54):
You have no idea which ends up and your quarterback
and your wide receiver trying to so the pageman amends
there and make amends and he's trying to win over
the locker room after saying he was gonna quit. Yeah,
I think I bet the Patriots stable.
Speaker 4 (27:09):
There was guy the Patriots were four and thirteen.
Speaker 6 (27:12):
They're supposed to go from four wins to let's say what, eleven,
which is what it's gonna take, maybe even twelve to
finish in second place in the A season.
Speaker 5 (27:20):
You're saying your team's winning ten games, Well, they had
eight last year and then too was heard, so you know,
pumped the brakes there, big boy.
Speaker 6 (27:28):
Don't act like the Dolphins are complete losers. They had
a bad year last year, but they were just one
game on.
Speaker 5 (27:34):
The firing your coach. And now you're telling me you're
winning double digit games.
Speaker 4 (27:39):
Well, yeah, I want to.
Speaker 3 (27:39):
I don't trust him, the deer in the headlines, whatever,
but I mean, come on, they're gonna win, but you're
gonna take ten or eleven to best you.
Speaker 6 (27:46):
You have the Patriots going from four wins to ten wins,
eleven wins. That's a plus seven in the win category.
What is their over on the win total for the Patriots.
Speaker 5 (27:56):
We're pulling it up as we speak.
Speaker 6 (27:57):
Probably what eight and a half if it's that much,
probably more like seven.
Speaker 5 (28:01):
Which is probably right where you're at.
Speaker 6 (28:04):
No, the Dolphins are eight and a half. The Patriots
are probably more like seven and a half. And I'm
just shocked that they're just the big favorite for the
second place over the Dolphins.
Speaker 4 (28:13):
Like that. That's shot.
Speaker 5 (28:14):
Well, that means nobody trusts your coach. You established.
Speaker 3 (28:18):
So the Bills are eleven and a half and both
the Dolphins and Patriots at last look are at eight
and a half. Okay, Jet's at five and a half.
Speaker 6 (28:26):
Well, then, I don't know why it makes the Patriots
such an overwhelming favorite for second place when they both
have the same over on the win toe.
Speaker 3 (28:33):
No, that's fine because it comes back down to the
trust that you're gonna at least you've bottomed out, and
that there's some level of stability with a new coach
as opposed to your situation.
Speaker 4 (28:46):
We're going to stay healthy.
Speaker 3 (28:47):
So we're talking about to his health, which is always
going to be a question mark. Tyreek Hill huge downturn
last year. How much of that is John us Smith?
Speaker 4 (28:56):
I gotta get that again, Yeah, gotta get it again.
Speaker 5 (28:58):
Dan and I talked about this.
Speaker 3 (28:59):
You can find the podcast wherever you look for your audio,
but you go between how much did you improve in
terms of decision making? I'm not going to take the
hit get rid of the ball. You had a safety
valve in, John new Smith, you had an effective runner
and an eight chan so you didn't try to throw
into double coverage and try to force the ball to Hill.
How much was he was pouting? So you just said,
(29:21):
screw it, I'm going somewhere else. Not to mention Jim
Tyrek Kill.
Speaker 4 (29:24):
Was also hurt less.
Speaker 6 (29:25):
Tyreek Hill was also hurt last year too. Matter of fact,
he might have, if I remember correctly, missed one or
at least one game. I think it might have been two,
but maybe one game, and he played hurt, and a
lot of games out there, we didn't know if he
was coming or going.
Speaker 5 (29:39):
So give him a violin.
Speaker 3 (29:41):
If you're in between the white lines, I need performance.
I can't say seven months later, you know what, they're
gonna be a great team because you know he played hurt.
Speaker 5 (29:51):
They all play hurt.
Speaker 4 (29:52):
Hey, I said, I was concerned coming into this show.
Speaker 5 (29:55):
But then you're trying to would be that you're going
to be several games ahead of the Patriots.
Speaker 6 (29:59):
I just a prized that they had the Patriots that
far in that division. I think the Patriots are a
third place team. Matter of fact, the Jets might finish
ahead of them. I think maybe the Jets are going.
Speaker 4 (30:11):
To be ahead of them when it's done.
Speaker 5 (30:13):
You just have some long standing hate of the Patriots.
Is that really?
Speaker 7 (30:16):
What?
Speaker 8 (30:17):
Just?
Speaker 3 (30:17):
Is it like Smith and his Jets fandom, where the
latent hate of Tom Brady, Robert Kraft and anything associated
with Bill Belichick has blinded you into Maybe.
Speaker 6 (30:27):
It's living so close to all the Patriot fans up
here they kind of disgust me.
Speaker 4 (30:33):
Maybe that's what it is. Maybe that's the reasoning why
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (30:37):
Should I send you some dolphins gears so you can
really draw the iron and draw them out?
Speaker 4 (30:41):
You see no dolphins gear up here. When I go
to New York or.
Speaker 6 (30:45):
Connecticut, I'm not going to see too many dolphin gears,
that's sure.
Speaker 3 (30:47):
Well, that's why you have to represent. You got to
get that big flag out in front of the house.
Speaker 6 (30:53):
At least I'll be able to watch it on TV.
So because uh, up here all we see is Bills
games down there, well with the Jets and the Giants
down in connetic Well, you know what, Cough.
Speaker 5 (31:02):
Up a buck. You can see whatever the hell you want.
You can do it in two forms.
Speaker 3 (31:06):
You can either do it live or you can do
the cheaper version, which is available at the end of
Sunday Night Football.
Speaker 4 (31:14):
To what to get all the games the same?
Speaker 3 (31:16):
Yeah, so the NFL dot Com package or you do
the YouTube TV.
Speaker 5 (31:20):
YouTube tv is more cost prohibitive for you.
Speaker 3 (31:24):
But you know what, We're gonna help Arnie move and
get his new sports loving self.
Speaker 5 (31:29):
Yeah, I got ready for Yukon.
Speaker 3 (31:32):
Yeah, the University of Connecticut. I'm putting you back in
class like your Rodney Dangerfield. By the way, forty fifth
anniversary of Caddyshack today. Yeah, it's kind of weird that
Smith's not here to commemorate that, is that his favorite
or well had? How about a fresco is is Twitter
handle for crying out loud? Yours is at Stinking Genius one.

misses out on the content of the sporting universe or
trying to figure out what goes on between the ears
of one Arnie Spaniard. It's our guy, Steve de Seger.
I don't know that he wants to figure that out.
Speaker 5 (32:29):
Nobody's trying that ladder part.
Speaker 4 (32:31):
Wow Wow, I.
Speaker 10 (32:33):
Will say, I'm glad I didn't miss one of the
great performances in Major League history tonight. It occurred this
evening for the A's a rookie Nick Kurtz, at four
home runs in a fifteen to three win at Houston.
To put it in perspective, stat Sing said, to have
these type of things at some point in your career
is astounding. To have a four homer game, or five
(32:56):
extra base hits in a game, or six hits or
more in a game, six run scored or more in
a game, an eight RBI game. Nobody's ever done all
of that in a whole career. Nick Kurtz did all
of that tonight in this game in his rookie year.
Six for six, eight RBIs, six run scored.
Speaker 4 (33:15):
And I'll never do it again.
Speaker 10 (33:16):
I'm sure he will not, because it's so rare, as
we mentioned, more rare than pitching a perfect game, A
four homer game just astounding. In fact, in the first
inning he had a single, wound up scoring in the
second inning, a two run homer in the fourth for the.
Speaker 5 (33:34):
A's RBI double.
Speaker 4 (33:36):
He wound up.
Speaker 10 (33:36):
Scoring on a teammates homer in the sixth inning, solo
homer for Kurtz, in the eighth inning, a solo homer,
and in the ninth inning a three run homer fifteen
to three. The A's win at Houston unbelievable. Speaking of Houston,
they still haven't kicked off the MLS game there tonight
due to clement weather. LA Galaxy at Houston may or
(33:58):
may not be happening at some point.
Speaker 4 (34:00):
Tonight.
Speaker 10 (34:00):
New York Mets are leading six to one at the
Giants in the top of the ninth In Anaheim, they're
in the bottom of the tenth inning. Angels tied two
to two with the Mariners. The two for Seattle coming
on solo homers by Julio Rodriguez a mere two. Tonight
right out in Kansas City, the Royals hosting Cleveland doubleheader
duo for them on Saturday. Texas and Minnesota each one.
(34:23):
The White Sox beat the Cubs twelve to five. White
Sox led eleven nothing in the fifth inning. Saint Louis
shut out the Padres three to nothing. The Padres had
no runs eleven hits. The Dodgers were five two winners
at Boston. Mookie Batts, Dodger outfielder Exit Boston, was out
for personal reasons. Toronto sent Detroit to a fifth straight loss,
six to the Blue Jays, who won seven of eight
(34:45):
our first place in the Al East. They were four
and a half over the Yankees big at five and
a half. The Yankees lost at home to Philadelphia twelve five.
Two more homers for Kyle Schwarber. He's up to thirty six,
and the Angels have just won in the tenth inning
three two over Seattle. The Bengals signed first round pass
rusher Shamar Stewart. In the WNBA three games, Golden State
(35:07):
took the Lake Contest eighty six seventy six over Dallas,
which is seven and eighteen. Minnesota is twenty two and
four undefeated at home after ripping Las Vegas one oh
nine seventy eight and New York is seventeen and six.
It got twenty nine points from Sabrina Enescu in a
victory against Phoenix seventeen to six. And yeah, Miami's Lettle
(35:27):
Messi was suspended one game, the one on FS one
tomorrow for missing the MLS all start game last week.
Speaker 4 (35:35):
We'll not do for ratings. What would be the difference
between him playing and them not well.
Speaker 10 (35:38):
I think at this point nobody's actually looking for the
MLS on a regular channel. Stop they've disappeared onto Apple TV.
Speaker 5 (35:46):
But it is.
Speaker 3 (35:46):
Unfortunate Beck to geez, yeah, the Apple TV process.
Speaker 5 (35:51):
There.
Speaker 3 (35:51):
I got a cool baseball guard story for you coming
up in a couple of minutes, and as a group,
we're going to try to figure out.
Speaker 5 (35:57):

Speaker 3 (35:58):

get to his wife to get him ready for the
NFL season. We'll do all that coming up next here.

Speaker 5 (37:03):
Angels walk it off.
Speaker 3 (37:06):
As Steve de Sager told us at the news desk,
Julio Rodriguez with a mere pedestrian two home run night.
Nick Kurtz, You're man of the hour on a Friday
night with his four home run performance winning the day.
Arnie Spaniers in for Jason Smith. Here was a cool
you know me and my trading cards. We opened up
(37:27):
a couple of packs of the new tops chrome product.
Speaker 5 (37:29):
We really didn't pull anything fun.
Speaker 3 (37:31):
There was one show, Hey o Tani insert that might
be like a ten hour card. But Jacob Mizerowski, who
we've talked about a lot here on Fox Sports Radio
the last couple of weeks, particularly ahead of the All
Star Game, when he was named a replacement to the
staff and people got mad, e'l he's only got five starts,
like he's one of the five names that people are
talking about. In twenty twenty five, he went to his
(37:54):
local card shop where he lives and decided to go
and rip some of a product that had his first
cards from twenty twenty two. And he pulled a parallel
an orange parallel numbered out of twenty five, smiled, grabbed
it and grabbed a sharpie and inscribed it hit in
(38:15):
shop and signed it. I have no idea. That's a
couple of thousand dollars right there?
Speaker 4 (38:21):
Really that much? Wow?
Speaker 5 (38:22):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (38:22):
No, his marketplace has gone through about the numbered out
of twenty five and the chase for any of his
limited stuff.
Speaker 5 (38:30):
And I have a Kobe Auto Jersey card.
Speaker 3 (38:36):
From two thousand upper deck.
Speaker 5 (38:40):
That's that's worth a bit of money. Wow?
Speaker 4 (38:43):
What what's a bit of money, Gus, spell your guns here?
What is it?
Speaker 5 (38:46):
Wait? You want someone to come rob my house?
Speaker 6 (38:48):
Well hide it? Then come on, let's go two two thousand. Yeah, oh,
I thought you were could tell me a lot more
than that.
Speaker 3 (38:56):
No, no, no, I had a Jordan rookie, but then
I used that to fund I know, my IRA for
the well it was only a seven, so it's only
a couple of grand It's not crazy. No, I've been
dealing with this going all the way back to trying
to get to ball games, beyond the freebies we got
for good grades and attendance and all, and then wrestling
(39:18):
matches and eventually dating and you know, car payments and
whatever else. It's always been a side hustle, and.
Speaker 4 (39:24):
You wish it would have kept it.
Speaker 5 (39:26):
No, no, no, there's there's certainly some stuff.
Speaker 4 (39:28):
Did you get rid of something that you wish you
would have still had?
Speaker 3 (39:30):
Right now, I've had a couple of things like, well,
we've moved a bunch, right and you know, my ex
and I we were in you know, Chicago to northern
California to upstate New York back to LA including a
couple of stops you know where she was for work.
And for school, you know, a couple of months at
a time, either overseas or in Minnesota. And and I
was traveling a bunch, so you know along the highways
(39:53):
and byways when you're in Miny, you know, university housing
and whatever. Yeah, I mean little pieces. You have a
couple of kids, and they're smart, and they're into activities
like you know this, right, your son being a goalie
some points, you know, right, there's a little bit extra
that comes in your kid gets named an All Star. Well,
(40:13):
they're not paying for you to travel somewhere, so where
you go. No, I mean, I've got a couple of
things that are still cool. But I mean like I
had a Bobby Night ball and I just knew a
guy that was a super collector and he offered me
way more money than because he knew it was real, right, right,
And that's where we get into in the marketplace. When
you can prove providence, you know, you add that extra value.
(40:34):
Like people knew I had gotten signed, and this long
before I was doing media for a living, so it's
not like I went and got it signed. You know,
going back to you being all mad about the guys
selling the tickets earlier, I got to listen to the
whole show. But the idea for that was, you know,
with the ticket side, you know, one last line for
you there arn'tie as I do. The drive by on
(40:56):
this one is that if if, if I give them
to my relative, like you know, like you were saying,
you don't think those are going into the secondary market as.
Speaker 5 (41:08):
Soon as they realize how much? How much?
Speaker 3 (41:11):
And so I mean in the end, it's just six
degrees of separation leading to the same end.
Speaker 5 (41:16):
But all of that to say the Bob Knight.
Speaker 3 (41:20):
There was a Joe Paterno autograph at one point, but
again I had a super collector who just wanted them
like and it meant the world to them.
Speaker 5 (41:28):
And I needed space so like.
Speaker 4 (41:30):
You needed money so well, but.
Speaker 5 (41:32):
That's just it.
Speaker 3 (41:33):
I was like, all right, what am I going to
do in San Francisco? I of storage fee money? No,
So like there's a couple of things I'd love to
have back. But like everything in life, it found its
way into the collection of a guy who I'm sure
appreciated it.
Speaker 5 (41:49):
I don't know again and is.
Speaker 4 (41:51):
Keeping it beautiful for you?
Speaker 5 (41:53):
No, melic, I go back and find him and see
if I can get it back. What do you think
of that?
Speaker 3 (41:58):
How about that, Artie, We'll do that and more. Still
have to sit you at you in Connecticut.
Speaker 5 (42:03):
Well, let's
