kind of turned a little bit. The Warriors and the
Lakers in the NBA doubleheader nightcap to start the season,

(01:11):
close game at halftime, the Warriors out to a seventy
eight sixty five lead right now over LA. Jimmy Buckets
with twenty three points leading the way for the Warriors.
Steph Curry's got eighteen. Meanwhile, Luca already with thirty one,
ten rebounds, and four assists for the Lakers as he

(01:31):
tries to keep things close. Auton Reeves the only other
player in double figures for LA with twelve. So good,
No Lebron, but good. Need a little bit more than
what he's got so far. I mean, I know, I
love Luca to carry the Lakers through games. We've seen
him do it with lesser teams in Dallas and they've
had a really good record in the top half of
the Western Conference. But wow, need a little bit more

(01:53):
than what he's getting tonight from everybody outside of.

Speaker 3 (01:55):
Reeves team shooting five and twenty two from three point range.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
That's not gonna get it done. DeAndre Ayton looks good
in the Laker uniform. It's very odd, but four point
six boards for him, but just struggling overall when we
look at the rest of the of the ancillary parts
of this. Not much effort off the bench. Marcus Smart's
got seven.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
Still waiting for Bronnie James to make an appearance though,
I mean, I just need him to check in just
for a minute, because it wouldn't be a complete opening
night without that.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
Yeah, I think they're gonna wait until they absolutely need
to put them in. Oh no, I get but like
end of the third is that what you through the
damn towel? Like I know, I think like Bronnie James
time might be coming, like end of the third quarter,
beginning of the fourth quarter. I think that might be
Bronnie James time a little bit. Okay, I might be saying.
What I do enjoy about this though, is when we're

(02:46):
looking at this Warriors squad and you've got just the
the two ends of the spectrum. We got a couple
of young guys that you're hoping to get some more time.
We'll figure out what Kaminga becomes. Right. That was one
of the big off season stories before he finally got
got inked about fifteen seven and five for him, but
Al Horford playing minutes, Yeah, Jimmy Buckets, Curry, Draymond Green.

(03:10):
You know, we talked about the icy hot game with
Rogers and Flacco on Thursday, well, here we are at
least on one side of the equation. So we'll have
more on this game coming up. A Lakers have cut
it to eleven. Four minutes ago in the third quarter,
seventy eight to sixty seven, Austin Reeves headed to the
free throw line to shoot a couple. Now, meanwhile, we've

(03:30):
had an incredible day in the NFL where coaches are
taking on quarterbacks and owners are taking on quarterbacks. We
brought to the Woody Johnson Justin Fields debacle earlier in
the show. Coming up in about fifteen minutes, we'll bring
you another one where one coach hopes his quarterback doesn't
throw ten interceptions this weekend. And he actually said that

(03:52):
ten interceptions he did. But the drama today between Sean
Payton and his former starting quarterback Russell Wilson is absolutely incredible.
Now it stems off of what Sean Payton said following
the Broncos come from behind win over the Giants on Sunday.
Right again, the Giants gacked away missing a couple of

(04:14):
extra killings. Not play yeah young Wayku might be the Giants. Now, hey, everybody, look,
we've we take that leg warmed up another opportunity. I'll
open up. We talked about the gagfest that went on
for the Giants and blowing that game and all of it.
But now a new bit of controversy has come out
of this because this quote from Sean Payton following the game,

(04:37):
in which he talked about the fact that Hey Jackson
Darts starting for the Giants. Obviously, Russell Wilson, his former
quarterback in Denver, was the starter earlier this season. Clearly
Sean Payton had enough of the Russell Wilson experience. He
winds up going to Pittsburgh for a season before he
ends up with the Giants. Here's Sean Payton twisting the
knife a little bit at Russell Wilson about the team

(05:00):
he was hoping to face on Sunday in Denver.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
You know, they found a little spark with that quarterback.

Speaker 4 (05:08):
I was talking to John Mayer not too long ago,
and I said, we were hoping that that change would
have happened long long after our game.

Speaker 1 (05:15):
Whoa, we were hoping that they would stick with Russell
Wilson and change to Jackson Dart after we played them. Wow,
So you figure, Okay, Russell Wilson's been immediate wise. Obviously
behind closed doors, there's been things with him and Pete
Carroll and you've seen I get But overall, in public,

(05:37):
Russell Wilson's carried himself pretty well. I didn't think he
was going to respond to this. Oh was I wrong?
He puts out this message on social media after this
quote got out there today quote classless but not surprised.
Didn't realize you're still bounty hunting fifteen plus years later

(05:59):
through the meat hatchtag Let's ride. Here's Russell Wilson saying,
you're gonna say that about me, I'm gonna come right
back at you. Sean Payton about this, so this is
fun to break down. Didn't think we have didn't have
this today, but bonus, Uh, here's the thing, Sean Payton, dude,

(06:22):
let it go. Okay, you won. You won the war,
like we said with Woody Johnson saying, hey, if our
quarterback can complete a pass, me better off. Yeah. Everybody
knows that. What he don't need to say it. Everybody
knows Sean Payton won the war here right, he won
the war with Russell Wilson. You traded a bunch of
picks to get Russell Wilson. He was no good. You
have moved on. Your team is now a Super Bowl favorite.

(06:43):
You've made the team back, You've won. Russell Wilson went
and had a mediocre year in Pittsburgh and now here
he is benched in New York. Do you really need
to do this? I mean, dude, show some class. I mean,
Russell Wilson says classless. Yeah, you won the war. It's
not like this is a battle that's being fought back
and forth. It's not like you guys have been saying
stuff through the media about each other in the last
couple of years. You won, and Russell Wilson has been

(07:06):
pretty classy and public about this for the most part.
I'm surprised he's responded. But I can't blame the guy because, okay, dude, again,
you won. Sean Payton does look classless here, and I
get that this is part of who he is. Sometimes
I like to speak my mind, but there's no reason
to do this other than I'm gonna I'm gonna stamp
on Russell Wilson's head, which whatever happened, it's two years ago. Man,

(07:28):
it's done. Everybody has moved on. I mean, I get that. Hey,
I want to make sure people. Everybody knows. Everybody knows
the right decision was made. You moving on from Russell Wilson,
you have the career still going on. Russell Wilson's near
the end. It was it was classes on Sean Payton's
part because he didn't need to say this, and Russell
Wilson saying what he said, Wow, going full bounty gate
and do it a hold, let's ride boy, you go,

(07:50):
Russell Wilson, I got your back on this. This is
something where I get it. I get where you're upset.
I get where you feel like it's you're being taken
shots at, because that's exactly what it is, all right.
So yeah, Sean Payton, dude, b classier, you won the war.
Everybody knows it. Yeah, not surprising.

Speaker 2 (08:05):
I mean he's a guy.

Speaker 3 (08:06):
You know, they got his friends and the deification has
always been there. This one was they hit below the belt.
You know, I was talking to their owner and just
let it go right. Someone should have followed up by going,
all right, what do you say to league officials about
Drake Green greenlaw now because he's gonna miss a game
for bumping and getting into an officials face after a game?

(08:29):
How about that fifteen yards you drew it. Yeah, it
was all about eight inches, but you sprinted onto the
field like a lunatic because you didn't get a call.
All of that, but you decide to decide why, Russell Wilson,
that's not this last year, right, It's not this offseason
the acrimony. There's a full year that's gone on.

Speaker 1 (08:46):
You've been waiting on that one liner this whole time,
and then you just have this opportunity that you escape.
Would you be all that chesty if you'd lost that
game because you played terribly for three quarters. It's still
one of the most inexplicable games we've seen in recent
memory because their defense was no good and their offense
was not existing. Bo Nix was equipping. I was trying
to figure out what I what I would say if

(09:08):
we went scoreless, right, and we got shut out? So
all of that. Russell Wilson clapping back. As you said,
he's always stayed in character. We've had some odd moments,
handle bubbles, the videos of him in bed, all of
those things, high knees, quirky, but never as has there

(09:29):
been the mean spirited approach. Right. He's been blunt about
some of the situations and certainly the end of his
tenure in Seattle.

Speaker 3 (09:38):
Some of it with the stuff with the Broncos. But
to come back with the bounty gate slight. I'm like,
I want this to keep going. Can we can we
put this on?

Speaker 1 (09:45):
I don't think I don't think it ends out because
Russell Wilson clearly is okay talking about it.

Speaker 3 (09:49):
Let's go, let's keep firing away, and it begets a
lot more questions about what what went on in Denver
that last year.

Speaker 1 (09:58):
And like I I understand that part of it, but
if the wound was fresh, if it was, I gotta
get my side out of this because people are talking
bad about me. I'd get that from Sean Payton, right.
I always want to say, hey, wait and wait a
minute before people start talking bad about me. I want
to make sure people know what happened on this. Anybody
wants that out there. But does anybody think that all
wrong decision was made? Boy Russell? Well, now nobody cares

(10:21):
because yet, not only have you won that you made
the right decision, you're able to flip this around and
turn the team into something. When you had to worry
about the money you were paying, Russell Wilson, the draft picks,
you pay, you won, you did this, I mean.

Speaker 3 (10:34):
And in the moment there were all those stories that
started to surface about how Russ acted.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
Yeah, and again, how much of that is I.

Speaker 1 (10:44):
But that's that stuff, that is And there's plenty of
stuff with players and coaches and owners that we don't
get stories about, right, But that's behind claw and if
they want to keep it behind closed doors, okay, I
think that's a coach's responsibility to say, you know what,
we need to keep this behind closed doors. I'm not suffering.
If he was suffering, I would get it right. But
he's not suffering. Sean Payton is the toast of the

(11:06):
NFL right now, Like do you? I mean, Russell Wilson
never says anything publicly like this and gets in a
war of words. We hear stories, he doesn't really respond
to them. Were stories about his office. He doesn't really
respond to that, right, parking spaces, We don't really respond
to that. The fact, not just to respond because usually
if you said, okay, Russell Wilson's gonna respond, I'd said,

(11:26):
here's gonna respond with a saying or a proverb or
something positive. Sure, that's kind of a subtweet right like, oh,
never look back in life, always look forward. To the
fact that he says, yeah, classless, you keep fighting bountygate
fifteen years later. That tells you how pissed he is,
and and how and how upset that he still is
over all, whatever happened, he still harbors that because normally

(11:49):
he just comes up with a Hey, I'm living my
best life no matter what. I'm not a starting quarterback
in the NFL anymore. Who knows where things are gonna
go deadline wise, but I'm gonna give you something positive.

Speaker 5 (11:58):
No.

Speaker 1 (11:58):
The fact that he's gonna get down and dirty. The
fact that this is the response out of Russell Wilson
that tells you a lot about Sean Payton. Yeah, I
just want more. I don't know if you're not Shadow.
Let's keep going. Clearly, they're both okay the bear, they're
both okay with Normally, you know, you're a backup quarterback.
Nobody cares. No here, come on, get to a microphone,
give me some more. If Peyton comes back to the

(12:18):
fact that, Hey, Russey's upset that Russell Wilson brought in
to remember, because the whole big thing at the end
was they told Russell Wilson, if you don't take supposedly
the story was supposedly allegedly, but that's if you take
you don't take less money. Uh, you're not staying on
the team, right, That's not something that's cool with collective bargaining.
That's not something you get away with anymore in the NFL.
And Sean Payton is an old school coach, and that

(12:40):
was brought to the NFLBA, they looked into it. If
that's what Sean Payton is mad about, okay, I don't
have to tell you man, dude, it's twenty twenty four
in the NFL. It's not nineteen ninety seven. It's not
twenty it's not twenty ozh five, it's not twenty twelve.
This is how things go now. And you know, if
that's the way it went, you can't do that. And
the fact the NFLPA had to come and look into it,
and if that's you're mad about it, Hey, I don't

(13:01):
know what to tell you, man. Again, bounty gate, you're
not coming from the best place of Hey, I do
things right. You know, I've had my whole career standing
up doing things the right way. Sean Payton is a
phenomenal coach. What kind of person is he? I think
that's the question. But he was played by Kevin James
in a movie that was a good movie. Though I
did enjoy the It wasn't bad. Yeah, the movie was
about the year he spent away from the Beau. But

(13:25):
it really put him in a nice light. It did
it did it?

Speaker 4 (13:27):
Did?

Speaker 1 (13:28):
He He was he was the He was the king
of high school football in that movie DJ Maybe not
in Queens, but he was the king of high school
football in Texas, djan that. I think we're gonna get more. Uh,
maybe it's Russell Wilson. Maybe it's when Wilson is done.
Maybe it's Wilson gets traded. But we're gonna get more

(13:49):
because I mean, just to hear, to hear Peyton not
only just bring up the story, but say I talked
to John Mara not too long ago, right, because I
know that's like that's a special kind of twist in
the knife, that's a special kind of jerky man from
there's hate, there's real hate, and then there's this.

Speaker 3 (14:08):
No, this is a few levels deeper. There's no question
about it. Because I mean, we've heard all the stories
of Russ. Right, there's plenty of X teammates that'll do
the side swipe in their own media responsibilities and eye
rolls and and boy, you know that we just didn't
jibe and on whatever. And certainly through the years, everybody
wants their their share of credit for the successes. Right,

(14:28):
how much was the defense? How much was Marshawn? How
much was Russell Wilson? Would we be if we were
in the media sphere now that we were then or
then that we are now? Would he be dragged like
we see with Jalen Hurts at times like ah, he's
just guy along for the ride kind of thing.

Speaker 1 (14:47):
So yeah, get your popcorn. I hope we get more.
I'm with Rock classless, classless, Russ Russ. Anybody else said,
is it in Denver anymore?

Speaker 2 (14:54):

Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon
Warriors on top of the Lakers. Right now, one one
hundred to eighty four, eight minutes to go in the
fourth quarter, Jimmy Buckets has twenty seven, Steph has eighteen. Meanwhile,
Buddy Budey Buddy Heil's got seventeen he's got five threes

(16:32):
off the bench for Golden State. Meanwhile, Luca doing it
all by himself for the Lakers thirty five, eleven and
six rebounds, and still Austin Reeves is the only other
Laker in double figures tonight. Woo. You look at that, Leah.
The Lakers support cash, you go, man. I didn't think

(16:52):
this is how it was gonna start for them. This
is a rough beginning for the Lakers.

Speaker 3 (16:57):
Luca thirteen to twenty two on the night, you know,
minus minus fourteen, but you know that's to be expected.
We were watching them get run up and down. But
as a squad, six of twenty eight from three point range, Yeah,
that's Eddie's left a couple of you know, draw the
extra defender and it's like, all right, I'm leaving you
wide open. Hit the shot, and a couple of times

(17:17):
they did. There was a Ruy Hachimura shot early and
you just saw him with the big fist pump like
all right, let's go, let's go, come on, that's not work.

Speaker 1 (17:25):
That's the last shot he hit. That was That's the
last one.

Speaker 5 (17:27):
That's it.

Speaker 1 (17:28):
We'll continue to keep you updated on this again. The
second game of tonight's opening double header for the NBA.
But a couple of big NFL stories here now, one
involving cornhole, one involving quarterbacks, corn hornholl or corn Hoolio.
I'm the great cart Holio. I'm the great corn Holio.
I'm the great carn Holiou let's do cornhole for Yeah,

(17:48):
let's go there. According to the Face again to the
Baltimore Sun and Front Off of Sports. After falling to
one and five, the Ravens made some big time decisions.

Speaker 3 (17:58):
They're trading off Derek Henry and other ancillary things. Have
traded Lamar Jackson to the Jets for Justin Fields. The
Ravens removed the player's ping pong table, video game consoles,
basketball hoop, and cornhole boards from the locker room well,

(18:19):
which tells you, ay, how big the Ravens locker room is.
That they are able to take a ping pong table
and video game consoles and a basketball hoop and cornwall
because you need room.

Speaker 1 (18:29):
You need thirty feet for cornhole boards. I play cornhole.
You need a lot of space for it. You had
some room. Okay, Now they're down to business. So this
means the wins are just gonna keep whether or not
Lamar Jackson plays are not as irrelevant. Now they got
rid of the cornhole boards. Everybody's now focused. We'll get
everybody on the right page.

Speaker 3 (18:45):
Sure did they get the secondary notice that came up
to talk about how many injuries were caused by all
of those things?

Speaker 2 (18:54):
Is that cornhole?

Speaker 1 (18:55):
Everybody to the infirmary. You're getting hit in the head.
People throwing the cornhole bought and I keep hitting me
in the head. I can't have to go to the hospital.

Speaker 2 (19:02):
I yells bags. I don't know what he says, and
I get hit.

Speaker 5 (19:05):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (19:07):
Uh, it's desperate, man, this is just this size. Can
we do the eighth you know, team only meeting?

Speaker 1 (19:14):
Yeah? You know, you know, I don't care. This is
that we're throwing stuff up against the wall and seeing
what works. Now, it's it's desperate, But again, is it
keeping anybody out of the training room. That's the only
thing that matters.

Speaker 2 (19:25):
It's the only thing that matters.

Speaker 1 (19:26):
In Baltimore, we had the very bad carpal tunnel injury
to a couple of players from too much video games. Uh,
we had the cornhole board injuries. Might be talking about
that getting hit in the head with bags. Mean, you
guys got to be more accurate throwing the ball. Corn holes,
and it's not the quarterbacks that are playing. I'll tell
you there.

Speaker 3 (19:40):
We used to have a bunch of subs to Twitch
channels and we had to get rid of that because
guys couldn't grip the football anymore.

Speaker 1 (19:46):
Yeah, you know the one I'm surprised the most about.
And maybe because you know me, you know, be in
my fifties now, I'm like people.

Speaker 5 (19:52):
They didn't remove John Harbaugh's computer in his office.

Speaker 1 (19:56):
He's clearly not using it. I thought you were there
that they didn't remove Justin Fields from the Jets locker room,
because that would.

Speaker 5 (20:02):
Why would I waste my time with the Jets they're
in seven?

Speaker 1 (20:07):
Well they could, they are removing him. We'll get to
that next hour. But the thing that surprises me, dude,
when when when the owner, when the owner, when the
owner says our quarterback is terrible to the media, that's
a big deal, dude, that's a big is it? Yeah?
Kind of he's got a snake in his boot. What

(20:28):
he's round up?

Speaker 4 (20:29):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (20:30):
I really maybe, because but I get the cornhole, I
get the video games. I get, but ping pong is
still that popular like that, like because you know, you
hear about ping pong and now when I were.

Speaker 3 (20:45):
A ton of money every year, But that seems to
be more of an in depth rio. Mopez shows up
a big performer on the.

Speaker 1 (20:52):
But but like ping pong has become more like uh, pickleball.
The last year is like it's become a serious thing
like cornhole and video games. We're blowing off. You know,
it's coming back, ping pong coming back this fall, you
know what I shadow may cha he's got a new
movie coming out as a ping pong player, is he? Yeah?
Is he one of those guys coding coning like Forrest

(21:15):
Gut when Tom Hanks is to the.

Speaker 3 (21:16):
Next level stuff? He trained for years for this role.
Really yeah? I mean I played and he was on set.
He was, you know, doing a lot of training.

Speaker 1 (21:25):
Oh I did not know that d.

Speaker 3 (21:27):
Had its big debut at one of these festivals and
people came walking out like giant ping pong balls.

Speaker 1 (21:33):
Okay, all right, sorry that was after he beat Wilson
in ping pong, and Wilson very sorry because you know
Wilson can at the ball. He's just a big head
on a volleyball that just sits there on the on
the table and Tom Hanks keep beating him. One of
my winning by Thrift regrets is there were a bunch
of the I don't know how many they issued, but

(21:55):
they were Wilson volleyballs that were if you want to do,
you know, by by a volleyball saying why is there
a Wilson? What's going? And they're probably worth a bunch
of money. I would want to I would want to
get a few and just go to the beach and
just throw it in and just watch people see it
and just say, oh my god, look it's Wilson, Like
I didn't want to see that. We just do that.

Speaker 5 (22:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (22:15):
The thing like, now it's Halloween. My favorite trick now
is to have a party now that we're you know,
we're moving, we're well past COVID. Like to have an
eminem uh a bag of stuff for an eminem bowl
and you're a place just to put a few skittles
in there and people start eating Eminem's like, oh oh
what is this? Like that's my fun thing to do Halloween.
I feel like the same thing to you getta you

(22:36):
get a Wilson volleyball and you throw it into the
water and then you just wait and see people see
it just willy nilly embracing disease. Yeah, look at embracing disease.
You're talking about hand going in the bowl. Might as
well put your mouth in the whole thing. You double
that choset party all the time though, But I mean
you gotta have a dispenser like a spoon or something.

Speaker 4 (22:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (22:55):
But I'm saying, but you're still gonna eat them. I
saying is you're still gonna grab a handful and you're
still gonna throw You're gonna wind up throwing in a couple.
Ah God, there's awful. It seems like an expensive proposition.
This is terrible. These are are these bad ms? Why
is it? Why does this taste like fruit? What the
hell am I eating? Well?

Speaker 3 (23:16):
I mean, then you start selling the ancillary line of
eminem product that they went down that rabbit hole. So
you're just bringing that to their attention.

Speaker 5 (23:25):
So if the Ravens have one win, yes, and they
did all this, the Jets have zero, what do they
just set a fire to their practices? Oh?

Speaker 1 (23:32):
I don't think that people are allowed anything to bring it?
Burn it down, slash and burn agriculture. We're gonna say it.
We're gonna burn things to the ground. We're gonna rebuild. No, no,
it's just gonna stay here as a standing memory, a
vacant fact. How bad the Jets are as a team.
That's how they just have number two pencils and scantrons.
No electronics. It's like in school when they have to

(23:54):
come in and and and now kids in school up
to put their cell phones in like a pocket. Uh
and go to any class. Yeah, put yourself out in here.
That's the Jets have to do.

Speaker 5 (24:03):
No comfy seats, it's the chairs from school.

Speaker 1 (24:06):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, they did those little on one side. Yeah.
And no passes that go to the bathroom. You have
to just sit till the pier until we're done watching film. No,
I can't go to the bathroom. Sorry, well they do.
They do that in their pants on the field. Hey,
we want to avoid doing this again here what we
do on the field on Sundays. Everybody good? All right,
let's go, We're gonna start a lesson. Uh So, if

(24:28):
courthole is the reason for the Ravens Hills, uh, I
gotta say again, the Dolphins might be the luckiest team
in the NFL. Now, how can you say this? There
are a one win team as well, No, the Dolphins,
because without the Jets, the Dolphins are the biggest tire
fire in the entire league. Every day there is more
and more evidence to show you how dysfunctional the Dolphins are.

(24:52):
Oh you want something from today, we got it now,
We've told you. Look this Dolphins team, you're just waiting
to start over, right, Mike McDaniel's gonna get fired. They
need to trade Tua. They'll they can move on from him.
They would have traded Tyreek Hill, but he's hurt. Probably
a chan bunch of guys like this is a team
that needs a complete and to talk about slash and
burn agriculture. They need a complete and total reset. And

(25:15):
maybe Mike McDaniel might be down with some kind of
reset if it involves him staying, because he's the one
guy you think, Oh, McDaniel's gonna go. McDaniel's gonna go.
Him and Tua join at the hit Bot. Maybe there's
some daylight now between Mike McDaniel and Tua Tonguea Vailoa.
The statement to A had a week ago of hey,
we got to start coming to meetings on time, which

(25:35):
was met roundly with a trouncing from his teammates. As
head coach and everybody in the media, you don't say
that about your teammates, Mike McDaniel said, we had to
have a conversation with Tua about it. Mike McDaniel was
asked today about the big plan for Sunday is Tua
can to continue to be your starting quarterback because he
got benched last week and the end is coming for

(25:57):
Tua in Miami, whether he is traded now the end
of this year year, you know, the end is coming.
And here's Mike McDaniel given to a little side swipe
while saying, you're my guy. There's one thing that Mike
McDaniel is looking forward to not seeing this weekend bar injury.

Speaker 5 (26:13):
Yeah, he's gonna take the snaps this week and he's
gonna their start of this week. And my expectation is
that we don't throw ten picks.

Speaker 1 (26:25):
Dictation is we don't throw ten picks.

Speaker 3 (26:29):
Someone Jititarry tait A his ass right after that COMMENTO.

Speaker 1 (26:34):
For the first time, I can see a little bit
of Mike McDaniel's self preservation going on. Because as much
as he's gotten the vote of confidence from Stephen Ross
and clearly, look, McDaniel, I mean look, Jason locking Forward
joined us last night. He said, dude, I don't know
how he still has a job, but if he still
has the backing of ownership, this kind of makes sense where, hey,

(26:54):
you gotta move off of TUA because we're going to
want to move off them. Clearly, the reaction to him
calling his teammates out for being late to meetings not
at all how you thought it would go. If Tom
Brady said it, or if Lamar Jackson said it, or
Jalen Hurts you said, hey, we got to come to meetings,
that would be seen as hey, quarterback is telling us
what we need to do. Man, we got to stand
up and fly right. We got to show up at meetings.

(27:15):
But instead, the fact that it was met with immediate
disdain across the board tells you where tuas standing in
the locker room is now. And the fact that McDaniel,
who has always been a staunch supporter of TUA, the
last two things about him has been he can't say
what he said about team meetings and hopefully you don't
throw ten picks this weekend. Yeah, you know I'm swimming
for sure. If there's one life raft, I'm gonna grab

(27:38):
it because I'd like to stay head coach in the NFL.
For the first time, I see a little bit of
daylight that maybe he could survive this if he moves on.
Because we've told you Tua just has never gotten a
hug from the Dolphins, from their fan base, from Dolphins Nation,
from the team, from his teammates that you thought a
guy who's a franchise quarterback would get. Now, we got paid,

(27:59):
but as you've seen, you can move on from money.
There's other teams that would say, hey, we're desperate star
for a quarterback. We can take tour, not gonna give
you a lot back, We're gonna pay a salary, and
the Dolphins are gonna start over. I can see that
bit of daylight now between McDaniel and Tua, knowing two
is the guy that's gonna go and if you can
get rid of him by the deadline, I guarantee you
that Dolphins looking into it because there's a reason why

(28:19):
suddenly Quinn Yours has been made the backup quarterback in
Miami over Zach Wilson, right, because you don't just do
that Hey, he's a guy. You think, Okay, he's a
later round draft pick. He's gonna sit all season. You
got Zach Wilson as your backup, and you have a
quarterback room. You like, there's a reason why he vaulted
over Zach Wilson to being the number two quarterback. If
you're in fantasy and you have a space on your roster,

(28:41):
pickup queen yours. There's many things going on right now
in Miami. Dysfunction at the top of that list, But
saying goodbye to Tua and maybe McDaniel saving his own skin,
that's kind of what it looks like, right.

Speaker 3 (28:51):
One of those things trying to say, hey, look, this
is my guy. We drafted him, and I can teach you.
Let me stay. Perhaps is the in the offing. You
don't get the hug when you only have one healthy season, right,
That's the thing, is people waiting for the other shoe
to drop. You're not performing terribly well. Even in your
best season, you were barely better than a two touchdown
due an interception, right twenty nine and fourteen. People remember

(29:14):
the fourteen more than they remember the twenty nine, and
the video from this last week particularly damning after the
third pick, it was the waving him get off the
damn field, and then yours he just ignored, which was
kind of interesting, but certainly a lot coming from the
Miami squad from career on down. They got problems exit

(29:35):
out bout a Fresca exit, swollen dome, absolute dysfunction, total reset,
trade who you can, you're seeing it unfold in front
of your eyes. Also seeing stuff unfold in front of
his eyes is special delivery, Steve to Seger, he's got
what's trending right now in the wide world of sports.

Speaker 4 (29:51):
You bet you we'll get to the NBA in a moment.
You mentioned the Dolphins worst run defense in the league,
allowing almost one hundred and sixty yards rushing per game average.
On the ground, they're giving up twenty nine points per game.
The Jets are winless and they forced literally just one turnover.
The entirety forced it. I think they just kind of

(30:11):
got it, That's what it was for. I mean, compared,
the Bears have forced sixteen turnovers, top turnover margin in
barig so far sixteen. They forced one for the Jets. Like,
do they even identify a football on the field at
this point? The Jets by the way, are expected to
start quarterback to Rod Taylor instead of Justin Fields. The

(30:33):
oh to seven Jets play at Cincinnati Sunday. The Giants
wave kicker Jude Mcatamney after his two missed extra points
last Sunday. They lost by one at Denver. Giants at
Philadelphia this Sunday. Eagles veteran defensive end Brandon Graham officially
resigned coming out of retirement. Tampa Bay veteran wide receiver
Mike Evans could return in December from last night's broken clavical.

(30:55):
Minnesota Vikings quarterback Carson Wentz will start again Thursday night
at the Chargers. Minnesota QB JJ McCarthy's still not fully
healthy after a high ankle sprain. Vikings running back Aaron
Jones was designated to return from injured reserve. He may
or may not play Thursday. He's had a strained hamstring.
Chargers running back Hassan Haskins is doubtful for the game

(31:16):
with a bad hamstring. Starting running back for la Omarion
Hampton is on IR and running back Najie Harris is
out for the year. Chargers tackles Joe Alton Trey Pipkins
were able to practice today. The team was on its
sixth and seventh tackles of the season last Sunday. Just
two opening night games on the NBA slate and currently

(31:36):
in LA we have under two minutes to go. Warriors
holding on one twelve, one oh five against the Lakers.
Luka Donsich with forty one of the one to oh five.
He also has twelve rebounds, eight assists, just three turnovers
on a Laker team that has nineteen turnovers in the game.
Warriors with eighteen turnovers on opening night. Jimmy Butler, with

(31:58):
thirty one points for Golden State, was cleared to play
after an ankle injury. The earlier game went double overtime
at Oklahoma City. Thunder got their championship rings before the
game and then played long end of the night one
twenty five, one twenty four okc's final over Houston Shake
Giljis Alexander with thirty five points, including the game winning
free throws and the basket that sent it to ot

(32:20):
in the first place. Jalen Williams of the Thunder was
out after risk surgery. Most NBA teams start Wednesday. Karl
Anthony townsaid the Knicks is questionable with a string quad.
Memphis guard Ja Moran was cleared to play tomorrow after
a sprained ankle. Paul George of Philadelphia is out tomorrow
after offseason knee surgery. And opening night rosters in the
league include a record tying one hundred and thirty five

(32:43):
international players, over seventy from Europe. Texas A and M
was fined fifty thousand dollars by the SEC Conference for
faking an injury last Saturday. The first college football playoff
rankings come out in two weeks. The angels new manager
is Kurt Suzuki, a former catcher from nearby cal State Fullerton.
The Angels have the major's longest current playoff drought. The

(33:05):
World Series starts Friday night on Fox TV Toronto, hosting
the Dodgers and pitcher Blake Snell. In Game two. Saturday night,
LA will start Yoshinobu Yamamoto on the mound in Toronto.
Toronto shortstop Bobashett was still out last round with his
sprain knee. He's been out since early September. He says
he's good to go. We'll see about the roster decisions

(33:25):
and in the NHL ten games tonight one late contest
at Utah seven and a half minutes to go in regulation,
the Mammoth leading the Colorado Avalanche three two. Back to you,
Thank you, Steve O coming up next. Boy, are we
getting some fireworks at the end of the game at
the Crypt. Night one in the NBA heroics from sga
Early and Steph Curry late keep it right here, Jason

(33:48):
and Mike. Happy Opening night, Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (33:53):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.

Speaker 1 (34:01):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Harmon, And It's over at the Crypt. Golden
State beats the Lakers one, nineteen to one oh nine.
Lakers had cut it to seven, but a long rebound
after a miss three is kicked out to Steph Curry,

(34:23):
who beats the shot clock with a three that gives
the Warriors a ten point lead with about forty five
seconds left to go, and that was it. Golden State
wins their first game of the year. Lakers go down
despite a big night from Luca forty three points, twelve rebounds,
and nine assists. No Lebron James, who was watching very

(34:43):
intently from the bench. Okay, did Digg. It wasn't drinking wine.
He looked good, he was fine. He was fine. He
was sitting behind Browny the whole time. Uh, this is
Bronnie James, who did not get no game tonight. Neither
did Dalton Connect. So all of a sudden, last year's
draft class for the Lakers looks really good.

Speaker 3 (34:59):
Gay, that was Lebron's guy. Are they sending a message?

Speaker 1 (35:04):
But I will say this that this is a really
big first seven to ten games for the Lakers. Obviously,
it's night one here. The Lakers are figuring it out.
We've seen Luca carry bad teams before in Dallas because
he's Luca. He's still young enough to do it. But wow, man,
I was really optimistic that he could do it. Yes,

(35:26):
the Warriors are a little bit better than the Lakers
right now without Lebron, but I really thought he would
get a little bit more opening Night from the rest
of his supporting cast, because outside of Austin Reeves of
twenty six, like, nobody really dented the stat sheet at all.
Nobody else was in. I mean, it took Deander eight
and all the way till a couple minutes left in
the game to be the third Laker player to get

(35:47):
to double figures. This was just this. I looked at
watch the Lakers play tonight and I said, Wow, this
team really I don't know what it is, but they
looked like they had way less talent than they've had
the last couple of years. And I don't know if
this is just hey, Lebron not on the floor. But
you know, here, we've seen it with Luca. We've seen
Ruya Chimura hit big shots, right, We've seen Gabe Vincent
have big minutes. We've seen Vanderbilt Marcus Smart coming is

(36:10):
supposed to be a big difference maker here. But boy,
really the Lakers looked like a team that's just wow,
do they really have any talent outside of Luca and
a little bit of Austin Reeves. That's how they look tonight. Well,
a couple of things that you take from it as
we watched it. It was sloppy early. Something we talked
about with Steve de Sager off the jump was, you
know how many turnovers right out of the gate they

(36:32):
had nineteen? It's nineteen possessions that poof vanish you know
as Bob Gunton would say in shawshank in the wind.
They get nothing there, eight of thirty two from three
point range and they missed eleven free throws. There's three
three points right there. It's like, okay, there's your ten

(36:52):
point difference. But like the turnovers were some of them
were just uncomfortable, like the no look pass, like you're
on the playground like that. You guys haven't played together
enough for that at this point, right, So night one
take it for what it is. It's a ten point loss.
You lose to steph who hit that they credited as

(37:13):
thirty five feet. It's one of those like the Otani
homer the other day, like can we get a remeasurement?
Can we can we go back and do that? And
I think that was a little bit further out, but
either way, Yeah, it'll round out better. We'll see. And
obviously it's a lot of it comes back to when
Lebron Dames to show up on the court. Yeah, I mean, look,
we'll have more on that's coming up in about ten

(37:34):
minutes with Rick Buker. You know, the way the Warriors
were able to come out and win this game and
hold on and the earlier game tonight, which went the
way of the Oklahoma City Thunder in double overtime thanks
to SGA get into the free throw line. Stop if
youve heard this one before. SGA walks into the free
throw line, hits a couple. This is a great game,

(37:56):
and the Rocket's stay in it much longer than I
thought they would. Again, No, Fred Van Vliet doesn't matter.
Kevin Durant makes an absolutely horrendous defensive play at the
end of overtime, a double overtime. The Rockets are up
by one. SGA's got the ball at the arc and
is having trouble getting space for what's going to be

(38:16):
potential last second shot to win this game. Dribbling up,
dribbling back, dribbling up, dribbling back. And when you see
a player do that, you know they're just trying to
stay busy in hoping that the defender is going to
make a mistake. And here's Kevin Durant playing great defense
on him at the end. Okay, everything, you know what
SGA is doing. You know he's trying to get to
the free throw line, so you know, don't make a mistake,
don't get caught in, allow him an off balance jumper,

(38:40):
allow him to dribble to the left and try to
put something. If he hits a shot like that, hey
guess what, he's the MVP. He hit shots like that,
but don't give it to him. And what does KD do?
He falls victim to its own. O. Kay, he's only
been in league twenty years and you know what's he know?
He's not seen this one before he leaves his feet,
flies up. You know, SG, as intelligent a player as

(39:01):
he is, is going to be able to go up
and get the contact. He jumps up, jumps into KD,
gets the free throws, hits him both. There's your final
one twenty five one four. Kevin Durant fouled out on
that place. You just kept walking into the locker room. Sorry, guys,
I know I screwed us and I can't face you
guys right now because that's a complete rookie play to make.
And again, it'd been in the league for a minute,
I have won championships. Awful defensive play by Kevin Durant.

(39:25):
What just state you got going on? You have the
height advantage, you got everything, You're playing great and you
got him out on the arc. And instead I'm gonna
panic and does exactly what SJA wanted him to and
he hits the shots and they win.

Speaker 3 (39:36):
But he yielded a lot of stuff. We get a
double overtime game. Good for us, great thrillers. We'll see
how many Impulse purchased there were for Peacock, because that's
the only way you were getting the Warriors Lakers to
start for a quarter plus. But for Durant, the curiosity
for me was how he only had three shot attempts
after the end of the third quarter, playing as many

(39:57):
minutes as he did, because he eventually got to four
for the night, and Shingoon was phenomenal. Right, this is
a team that's gonna be a problem in the West.
They're gonna be fun to watch. It's odd to see
kd In in the Houston uniform. That's gonna take some
getting used to. But good depth.

Speaker 1 (40:16):
They'll get more from Shepherd off the bench as they
go forward. And first of many battles here. So that
was a fun exit out about a Fresco exit, Swollen
Dome opening night, double header night in the NBA, the
return of the NBA to NBC. Yeah, we had round
Ball Rock. We had some great stuff to get. Look,
we have a great walk down memory Lane coming up

(40:37):
next hour for you here with NBN NBC A lot
of fun to get to as we saw tonight. But
coming up next Fox Sports won NBA insider Rick Bucker
stops by the beginning of another great season with our
best college basketball with best NBA analyst, Rick Buker is
next right here, I must listen. Power Hour full of
NBA in the NFL is on the way. Next Jason
