Speaker 2 (00:24):
Listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:31):
Hello, Welcome in side our three, The Jason Smith Show
with my best friend Mike Harmon. Seven minutes ago in
the third quarter, Minnesota on top of Golden State seventy
four to sixty eight. War's been able to keep this
one close. But a little bit of daylight here for
the Tea Wolves. Again, remember the Warriors playing without Steph Curry.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
He'll be out through it. Right now, it.
Speaker 1 (00:56):
Looks like at least until Game six. And if this
game continues the way it's been going in the third quarter,
I don't quite know that they're gonna get to Game six.
So there's that. Well, we'll be agiously watching it, particularly
down the stretches.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
If it's close.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
How much they're paying attention to the points spread and
whether Draymond Green is yelling to Minga again. I mean
it was either four between four and a half and
five and a half depending on where you got in
for this one. Six point games, six thirty remaining in
the third, so something will be curiously observing.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
As it goes on.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
Kaminga thus far a star four of eight from the field,
with eight for eight from the follow so again, seventy
four to sixty eight lead for the t Wolves again,
six minutes to go in the third quarter. At what
just how fast has the Warriors and the Tea Wolves
become the junior varsity game? Fact that Knicks and the
Celtics is everything? And now yeah, and the Warriors are playing, Ah,
(01:52):
that's great.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
Well, but the Warriors were the star of straw that
stars are drink.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
Yeah, yeah, the Warriors are playing, Nicks have been the
Knicks have become the biggest draw.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
Well's that's a good brand. But your star player. As
much to love Jimmy.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
Butler, and I celebrated his entire catalog is willingness to
force all his colleagues to pay twenty dollars for a
cup of basically current coffee during the pandemic, and then
the bubble was brilliant.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
But where we sit right now.
Speaker 1 (02:18):
Yeah, he is he the guy that's gonna bring you Pizemski,
nice story, good player.
Speaker 2 (02:24):
Like, no, you don't have Stephan Clay.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
So it's not the same marquee, which is why we
need to sell Anthony Edwards and Julius Randall as one
of the greatest tag teams of recent memory.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
It's why you.
Speaker 1 (02:35):
Also need to sell you know, hey, the pointspread at
the end of the game, so you understand people are watching, right,
gonna keep going with that point spread?
Speaker 2 (02:41):
Got it on the point? Well you get you do have.
Speaker 1 (02:42):
To know it and look at you ubiquitous, So you
get a lot of players that talk openly about it,
the mail that they received, right, we had that in
baseball over the weekend. Number of players they're making threats
on my family and starting to discuss those kind of
the downside of opening the up and and really social
media and some of the ills that bring to you.
(03:04):
But that Draymond Green clip will live forever, right, And
it's lip reading, and folks can try to push it
in another direction if they want.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
But I think we all saw what we saw and.
Speaker 3 (03:16):
It seemed pretty often for more of the betting stuff. Guys,
let's go to Michael Jordan.
Speaker 1 (03:20):
Oh yeah, yeah, right, Well that's the podcast. It's Jordan
and Jordan and Draymond Green. That's the podcast.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
Well, we did get a couple.
Speaker 1 (03:27):
Of suggestions that maybe it's like and I also took
this personally, and then he goes off on a you know,
you get a little bit of the music behind you,
like it's gonna be a thing on five.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
No no, no, no, I.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
Already got it. No, I got it, patent pending. Here's
your Jordan gambling segment idea.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
Right, I got it.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
Okay, I got I got, I got it. And it's
called and I took that personally. Right, So he's got
the iPad, right, we said, whatever he's doing, you have
the one set of people on one set and Jordan's
by himself with an ipen. What kind of music do
we get behind it? Right, Because we can't take thing
something from the nineties, but we can't take that little
piano thing. No, no, no, So we got we gotta
(04:06):
extend on the NBNBA bringing Jordan back. It's like we're
back in the nineties. So it's all synthesize from the nineties. Yes, synthesize.
It's right here, right now, Jesus Jones.
Speaker 2 (04:16):
It's sponge.
Speaker 1 (04:18):
It is no doubt, it's uh try in the mid nineties.
It's a lot of grunge. Right we get to the grunge.
It was early to mid ninety so we have that.
It's a lot of no doubt little spiderwebs. But you know,
we want you want to bring that back. But it's
called and I took that personally. And Jordan comes out
and he says, Okay, guys, here's what I saw, what
I like right now, right now here, we are Game
(04:40):
four of the Western confer second round. It is a
five and a half point spread for the Warriors to
beat the Tea Wolves tonight. When I saw that spread,
I took that personally and I put ten thousand dollars
down on the Timberwolves and Anthony Edwards to get this.
And then when it hits, we get back to the
(05:00):
nineteen ninety three classic hip hop hooray, and it's like
Jim Pemer going, there's Michael Jordan, and he's given that.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
I took that personally. The level of game right there,
that's his level of confidence on that game. Now, that's
what I call fast money. And I took that personally.
Right there you go.
Speaker 1 (05:18):
Hey, when I saw the overrunner tonight was Karl Anthony
town sixteen points for the Knicks.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
You know, I took that personally. Carl Anthony Towns will
go over sixteen points for the Knicks to night.
Speaker 1 (05:30):
Oh, and then there's a big sound effect in it,
and then the and then the whole. I took that personally.
Font gets larger and bigger, larger and bigger. That's how
it's done.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
There you go. I took that personally. Gotta dig this.
There you go, that's perfect. There you go. Patten Pending, NBC.
Patten Penny can't steal that from me the whole time.
He's smoking a cigar. He smokes a cigar.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
When they win, kind of like he's James Worthy in
a post game Oh what for war?
Speaker 2 (05:54):
Sure, sure, but he can't when you're giving out.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
They see if you get a huge win, he gets
a trope and then he just hugs it. Oh, it's
a really big one. Like if you said, hey, I'm
gonna go I'm gonna go over. Hey, mccal bridges will
hit over fifty percent of his shots from the floor tonight.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
WHOA, you're right with that. That's a cradling the trophy. Right.
Speaker 1 (06:17):
If you want to say Jalen Brunton's gonna go over
twenty eight and a half points, well that's okay, that's
smoking a cigar.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
Okay, that's that.
Speaker 1 (06:23):
So there's certain things that certain achievements that are worthy
of the of the hugging the trophy, certain worthy of
the cigar, and uh, certain times.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
Of just shaking the head.
Speaker 1 (06:35):
I kind of dig that. Now I think we can
go a step further. And now you've got you know,
milestones and partners based on how many points you're scoring
in a game, Like if you're betting someone's over under right,
if it's over a forty or a fifty or maybe
a double nickel, like, you're gonna have special specialty items
and specialty things associated with.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
That in terms of forty ounces or or a fifty burger.
Speaker 1 (07:00):
Hey this burger burger? If this hits all half price burgers,
no no, no, no.
Speaker 2 (07:06):
And here's the next one.
Speaker 1 (07:08):
Who was Michael Jordan's biggest endorsement deal of his career,
most FAMOUSMST not to say biggest, but his most famous.
That everybody remembers him for we weeds is big. But
McDonald's sure. McDonald's right.
Speaker 2 (07:22):
When he was playing you know Larry Bird those games
a horse.
Speaker 1 (07:25):
Sure so well, Okay, no, but I mean outside of sports.
Outside of sports, his endorsement is is McDonald's sport Haynes,
Yes it is, hey, Yeah, but then he had the
way he had the mustache, he had the weird mustache,
and that did not didn't play very well.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
I didn't play well.
Speaker 1 (07:39):
But outside of sports, McDonald's right, Okay, be like Mike right. Like,
so he has a special thing and he calls it
the fifty burger play of the day, and he gets
a big McDonald's burger and he's eating the burger and
he gives you his pick that he would put fifth,
that he puts fifty thousand dollars on the fifty burger
McDonald's pick of the night. I dig that I wanted
(08:01):
to go double nickel just so we can get a
dominant performance over the Nickman fifty March twenty eighth, nineteen
ninety five fifty burger, Like.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
Because the mc jordan's special.
Speaker 1 (08:10):
If I remember, I'm going back to the nineties, it
was like a double cheeseburger with bacon, and so they
called them mcjordan's special, and it was really good. It
was like a bunch of burgers and a death. No, no, no, no, no,
there was no there was no proof that happened anybody.
It was a quarter pounder, yeah, with bacon, barbecue, sauce, mustard, onions, cheese, pickles, yeah, fries.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
And and drink. Yeah. That was in nineteen ninety two.
That was a great burger.
Speaker 1 (08:33):
So that's it, the fifty burger special, and that he's
got in his hand and he takes a big bite
out of eating. Then he says, here's my pick, fifty
grand tonight on that. You know, Josh Hart will score
less than ten points for the next to night fifty
burger on that.
Speaker 2 (08:46):
Okay, fifty burger. Now.
Speaker 1 (08:47):
Things you wish you'd put aside for one hundred alex,
like cases of all the stuff from space Jam, like
the different fry container whatever. Oh, they they sell for
like fifteen twenty bucks. Really wings well, I mean, no, grease,
stay into whatever. I'm talking ones that you know got
back door. Excuse me, kid, can I get some blank
(09:08):
space Jam fry holders? Yeah, I'll give you ten dollars
for like fifty of them. Oh sure, back then you
probably could have asked and then like, okay, yeah, sure whatever.
See if I was you see, if I was like
and go back in time, like I would, I know
I would hoard all the wrong stuff. Okay, hey, I
got the Karl Malone Carmelone's not worth anything now that
Jordan would I'd wear that, like I think I would
(09:29):
hoard the wrong stuff.
Speaker 2 (09:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (09:31):
The curiosity, though, is what gets some massive distribution, right,
because if you go back to the Kenner starting lineup dolls,
Jordan was everywhere because that was a nasal. Carl Malone's
actually rare. He and John Stockton they didn't make nearly
as many of them. A lot of people that try
to build the sets, they've got to go and get those.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
I have the.
Speaker 1 (09:47):
Original Star Trek action figures. No, not talking much Star Wars, right,
but you want the old Slurpy discs right right, the
lenticulars or the cups from seven to eleven back in
the day, and then all those regional things are just gold.
I would just I would go, I would, and then
it would just have a house where it was the
nineties all the time, it was everything nineties. You can
(10:08):
still candre that house everything nineties. You still can have
that room, you can still that could become the man cave.
What do you got? Tons of mixed stuff telling me
from the.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
NBA Championship Series runs with this, Jordan.
Speaker 1 (10:22):
Return to the NBA, returned to broadcast with a big
story today is coming back to the NBN, NBC in
a role that he's going to be a contributor, which
could be anything.
Speaker 2 (10:30):
I mean, the.
Speaker 1 (10:31):
Nineties is the last great decade? Right, Like you could
look back, like so many decades we look on and say, wow,
what a great deck. And obviously, depending how old you are,
you look back at that. Like, but people look back
at the eighties being a great decade, the seventies, the sixties,
the fifties, right, all of that, right since the fifties
really because you know, the forties we had World War
Two all the way through it. But you go back
to the fifties, yeah, fifty But then after the nineties,
(10:52):
like we're not celebrating the aunts, right, We're not celebrating
the teens when I certainly not celebrate in the twenties.
And it's like, okay, what's the last great the last
great decade and maybe again, maybe we peaked as a
population in the nineties about that.
Speaker 2 (11:05):
That would be what everybody now, what is funny to me?
Speaker 1 (11:07):
And this Jordan thing? And I'm gonna zag in terms
of what contributor means. Does he own the rights to
any of his highlights or any of those things to
where they've got to sign him to a deal so
he becomes a contributor, They just have to allow them
to use.
Speaker 2 (11:22):
Those things prior to see him, maybe a couple of
times a month.
Speaker 1 (11:28):
I'm thinking just kind of walks out hello everybody, maybe
once or twice a month.
Speaker 2 (11:32):
Yeah, I don't think you're gonna see him like, you know,
like he he's gonna be like Wayne Gretzky on. Oh
that's not bad.
Speaker 1 (11:37):
That's that's a pretty good Basically probably that's you have
to stand on the court awkwardly for twenty minutes at
a time. But if yeah, it's gotta be in the
studio because if Jordan's gonna come back and you want
to get you want to get the bang for your buck,
You're not gonna send him out to do features on players.
You're not gonna he's not gonna be a reporter where
oh here he is doing. It's not gonna it's not
gonna be a a Jimmy Roberts type of profile.
Speaker 2 (12:00):
Do you want to play me one on one? That's
what he does.
Speaker 1 (12:03):
It's gonna be a couple of times a month. It'll
be he'll be in studio for a couple of big
nights a month. Hey, maybe there's two games now, we
had a big doubleheader. Jordan pregame, Jordan halftime, Jordan postgame,
Jordan pre game. Have to like a big night that
that you know TNT would have where they have all
their guys, and Jordan does that a couple of nights
a week. I think that's kind of what you're gonna
(12:24):
get from him. Again, he's not all of a sudden
gonna jump into a grind of Hey, I want my
voice to be heard. If he wanted that, he would
have done it already. But he wants He definitely I
think coming back from coming out of the thirty for thirty,
you know, and he's not somebody that does things fast, like, okay,
three and a half years later.
Speaker 2 (12:39):
Hey, maybe this is something that I could do.
Speaker 1 (12:42):
So yeah, you'll probably see him a couple of times
a month, simply because he kind of likes the fact
that when I talk people still listen, and he's gonna
want to continue to remind people of his greatness, right,
You know, the more you don't talk about, the more
people say other people are great, Like.
Speaker 2 (12:56):
People are gonna go. Was Jordan better than Jalen Brunson?
Speaker 1 (12:59):
Was he?
Speaker 2 (12:59):
Because I don't. I can't believe that, dare you. He's
just got a bunch of videos. But why are you
doing that?
Speaker 1 (13:06):
Well? Because I could have said it, Is he better
than Michel Bridges? Because boy, did Bridges have a night tonight?
Speaker 2 (13:10):
Too?
Speaker 1 (13:10):
But I figured out I'll go with Jaylen Brunson. I mean,
who's better? I mean I remember seeing video of this
Jordan guy you're telling me about. But boy, Jalen Brunson,
I just watched last night. Boy he get in anything?
Speaker 2 (13:19):
So you didn't watch anything? O G is the real
MVP of that squad. But you had a great night too.
Speaker 1 (13:24):
But maybe maybe the other thing is it's all just
on aired footage from the last dance hanging around again,
going back to the I took this personally, it's not
actually new. It's like, hey, this has been archived for
the last couple of years. But since we've got the
Timberwolves playing tonight. Here's an exchange with Michael Jordan talking
about Kevin Garnett.
Speaker 2 (13:45):
Oh see, I thought you're gonna go kind of where
when they tried to splice in.
Speaker 1 (13:47):
The footage of Fallout Boy into into radio active Man,
You're fired with good reason. Yeah, you know it looks serious.
Radio act man is attacking.
Speaker 2 (13:59):

Speaker 1 (14:00):

at the top of your screen so you can lock
(17:06):
it in rip the knob off. Speaking of locking it
in and ripping the knob off, that's what happened to
the Golden State.
Speaker 2 (17:12):
Warriors in the third quarter. It was pretty easy.
Speaker 1 (17:16):
When I said last week, I think the rest of
this series with the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Golden State
Warriors Warriors without Steph Curry, I expect every game the
Warriors play without Steph Curry to be a Tea Wolves win.
Speaker 2 (17:31):
And while it was close for a while, the Wolves
go to.
Speaker 1 (17:35):
The fourth quarter with a twenty point lead over Golden
State ninety nine to seventy nine, Anthony Edwards sixteen points.
He had a Jalen Brunson like third quarter for the
Tea Wolves tonight, carrying them to this huge lead and
what could be a three games to one lead. And
I really do I think it's that simple, because there
(17:57):
are some teams that can get by without their star.
Look if the Celtics are without Jason Tatum when they
go back to Boston for Game five, I get it.
They clearly can withstand losing it now for another three games,
different story. But game five, can I see them with
stand and do it? Yeah, they've done it before because
there they look, they're they're incredibly talented. You got the
(18:18):
six Men of the Year and Peyton Pritchard. But the
Warriors are not made to withstand losing Steph Curry. They're
not made to lose him and still win a bunch
of games and go on and say, look, this is
how great we are when you take Steph Curry away.
That really does it. And maybe Game one for the
Warriors was their dark side of the moon.
Speaker 2 (18:36):
Yeah, I mean we will see the Celtics depth tested.
Speaker 1 (18:40):
It was something I've raised to a number of our
insiders that have joined us all year long.
Speaker 2 (18:44):
It's like, are they really that deep? Right?
Speaker 1 (18:46):
Pritchard winning the sixth Man of the Year award aside,
you know, do you have enough on that bench that
you can rotate in if you were to lose someone
out of that that top tier indefinitely? But you know
for the Warriors, who wasn't Anthony Edwards is that you
guys are just waiting for Wardell to come back, right.
Using the the birth name of Steph Curry in that
(19:09):
conversation going oh yeah, like I see what you're doing,
which means you know, as a squad, you talk about
it right, you don't want to breathe any life back
into it. He gave a game away to start the series,
and you know that, Look, there were great expectations for
the squad after last season. Talk about their ranginess, their
ability to play on the perimeter. You know, you're talking
(19:30):
about length and defending jump shooters and all that, making
every possession difficult. A guy like Gobert as a luxury,
you know at times where you know you've just got
the extra big man and he doesn't have to be
the defensive player of the year. You know, often much
maligned for that kind of thing, but you see how
(19:51):
you can get a mismatch. And they certainly have that
at their disposal at times if they want to go
play it here against the Warriors. But you know, for
Anthony Edwards, a lot on the line. He's a guy
that's taken a lot of incoming for when when he
does come up short in games, much like Jason Tatum
of the Celtics, like all right, you're supposed to be
(20:11):
the guy, you know, the whole you were supposed to
be the chosen one. Oh yeah, eah, keep going back
to the Revenge of the Ciev And here we are
for Anthony Edwards and for this Timberwolves team looking like
they're just wanting to get on and upwards into that
next stratosphere. Uh yeah, but look, the Nicks need somebody
to play in the NBA Finals. You need somebody to play, dude.
(20:34):
You gotta get past the Pacers. Yeah, dude, we're gonna
sweep the Pacers Nicks in four their chitting Nixon five
Outside of MS it doesn't matter whatever it is that
the Knicks fans are gonna chant their chitting nix and five,
nix and four name bart just hit another three? See
hit what he at the luckiest shot of his life.
It's not gonna it's always against the Knicks knocking. He
hit one shot one time in history.
Speaker 3 (20:54):
Just happens to be the biggest shot since Reggie Miller was.
Speaker 2 (20:58):
The pick.
Speaker 1 (20:59):
Guys had a hell of a right for as much
as you clowned him a year ago. Yeah, when more
clutch than when would you stop from? That's not even debatable.
Speaker 2 (21:11):
Just he made the shine. Just stop.
Speaker 1 (21:14):
Jalen Brunson's made more shots in the fourth any one
game in this playoff, Jalen Brunson's made more clutch shots
in the half minutes than just about any other NBA
player in two playoffs.
Speaker 2 (21:25):
Worth go New York, Go, New York Go. Yeah, you
can't bite the hand the feed you Frostbury. No, I'm
going for New York. I know you are. It has
nothing to do about the mix. I do celebrate. You're
just going against the Celtics. Damn right, that's what you do.
Speaker 1 (21:39):
Yeah, this is the friend. The enemies of my enemy
is my friend. Remember coming you're using you to get
to the Celtics. Wow, that's okay, that's all right. That
sounded that's how are that sounded? Very high schools. I'm
just using you to get even with my ex boyfriend
I'm okay with And you say I'm okay, yeah, all right, Yeah, No,
I have one hundred percent. He's like, what was a
couple years ago when it was gonna be the Astros
(22:00):
and the Phillies in the World Series. I said, listen,
I'm not rooting for the Astros because I can't root
for the Astros because the cheating said but I'm really
not rooting for the Phillies.
Speaker 2 (22:09):
I'm not.
Speaker 1 (22:09):
I'm not.
Speaker 2 (22:10):
I can't root for the Phillies because of them. I can't.
But you were Fascros. No, I'm not rooting for the Astros.
I'm just really not rooting for the Phillies. Just really
not rooting for them. That's what it was.
Speaker 1 (22:20):
That was a very odd world series to cover. It
was you because there was no passion. You're like, I'm
watching this and I love baseball, but damn it, I
hate the Seams because the Astros forever will have gotten
by with nothing like no substance for anything the worst,
(22:40):
but hey, you know it's it's it's baseball. And now
we watched this in Frostburg with his go New York go,
almost as if to taunt you.
Speaker 2 (22:48):
Oh yeah, yeah no, because you know he's gonna.
Speaker 1 (22:50):
Pull the rug out from und No, he'll pull the
rug out after the Knicks beat the Celtic.
Speaker 2 (22:55):
Reggie Miller Jersey. Then he'll want the Knicks to lose.
Speaker 1 (22:58):
He just wants all them harder, all the I don't
think I think they make those all the Celtics. When
when all the Lakers' rivals are eliminated, that's when he
turns heel again. Well, everybody's right. He does the double
John Cena, he does the double heel turn. It'll be
heel turned then I'll turn back. You see Sina right
now is having troubles with it because the crowd keeps
(23:19):
chanting thank you John, and you can see it's Yeah.
Speaker 2 (23:23):
I don't think it's an act. I think the dude
is really affected by it. So this whole heel turn
is coming back here. The Celtics really lost.
Speaker 1 (23:32):
Yeah, they lost again, justin thank Yeah, Celtics lost again. Yes,
they are down three to one to the Knicks. Wait
say that again, that Celtics are down three one.
Speaker 2 (23:40):
To the Knicks. Go New York, Go New York, Go,
go New York, Go New York. I'm listening to that,
Like now, the Celtics are bad. We will have more
on that game coming up a little bit because here
the Necks up three games to one. But we got
a big nb NFL story. Sorry NF, I se all
thinking Knicks run Nick. Yeah, I know you can't let
(24:02):
it go.
Speaker 1 (24:02):
We got a big story from the NFL coming up
in ninety seconds. But first, Martin Weiss has a detail
on every one of Jalen Brunson's points tonight. He will
lay him down from beginning to end with what's trendon?
Speaker 2 (24:14):
Go ahead? Martin White started to go ahead.
Speaker 4 (24:16):
He started with one, yeah, and two, then fast forward
all over to thirty nine. Yeah, oh good, Okay, So
I'm gonna skip ahead a few. You know, I took
first grade math, so I cano thirty nine points for
Jalen Brunson as the Knicks beat the Celtics one thirty
one to one thirteen, taking a three to one lead
in the series. Jason Tatum suffered a non contact lower
body injury in the fourth quarter did not return to
(24:36):
the game.
Speaker 2 (24:37):
Looks like there might be save a miracle.
Speaker 4 (24:39):
Come back another three to one lead here as the
Minnesota Timberwolves just turned over the Golden State Warriors. Jaden
McDaniel just threw it right back to uh Johnathan Kamena there.
But right now it's one on one to eighty three
with nine minutes left in the fourth quarter. As Comena
drives a basket gets fouled, he'll go to the free
throw line. But it's just been a tough sledding for
(24:59):
the Warriors offensively thus far in this game. Draymond's got ten,
Jimmy Butler's got twelve, Buddies got thirteen, Brandon Pejemski with eleven,
but he's three to four eleven from the floor over
four from three. The Golden State as a team twenty
five percent from three. Just to show you, Minnesota sixteen
for thirty one from three, it's fifty one percent. They're
(25:22):
playing well. Anthony Edwards a big part of that. He's
six for eleven for He's got thirty points so far
with uh jet falso has five fouls. So sitting out
right now, but nine minutes left in the fourth quarter.
Minnesota with a one on one, eighty five lead. On
the hockey side of things, the Edmonton Oilers have made
that a three to one series all the way after
a three nothing win over the Golden Knights two goals
(25:43):
for Adam Henry won for Evander Kine. Earlier tonight we
saw the Carolina Hurricanes push the Capitals to the brink
of elimination to a five to two wins on Walker
with a late goal. The University of North Carolina has
announced the former Bears pr director of Brandon Faber, has
joined the football prom They might be in you know,
search of one after Jordan Hudson and as as much
(26:05):
success she's had as a pr go go go of things.
But also the NFL announced the Eagles wells the Bears
on Black Friday. Back to you guys, thanks a bunch
ummed up Bears.
Speaker 2 (26:16):
Just it just really quick.
Speaker 1 (26:17):
It certainly feels like and this again me one of
my teams, but it certainly feels like the Hurricanes and
Oilers are on the on the road on a collision
course for the Stanley Cup Final, big rematch of two
thousand and six. It certainly feels like both those teams
have the momentum now they're the Hurricanes are up through
with certainly another round of go in the playoffs. But
they've been getting that nothing different from the Hurricanes the
(26:40):
last five years. And now they're getting the timely goals.
And I think Edmonton starts every game up to nothing.
It didn't seem like if you blink today they missed
two goals. D you got to your seat late. Yeah,
you're pissed. They dropped the puck and McDavid and dry
Title have already scored two nothing.
Speaker 2 (26:54):
Edmonton certainly feels that way. Now, big NFL story from this.
Speaker 1 (26:58):
Weekend, and you look it feels like it's forever ago.
Let's good, you know, because the Knicks one tonight, but
a lot of stuff in the last forty eight hours.
Come on, dude, for me tonight I had to balance
the Knicks win, the Mets win in a walk off,
and the Hurricanes go up three one.
Speaker 2 (27:12):
I had a lot of stuff.
Speaker 1 (27:13):
It would have been fun to measure your heart rate
during that process. Now off the PhD weight loss. I mean,
your cardiovascular system is going to be improved, but it
was tested today, no question.
Speaker 2 (27:25):
Thursday's baby, something's lost.
Speaker 1 (27:27):
Yeah, I'm telling you justin look man, look to keep
going bouncing between servers.
Speaker 2 (27:33):
That information is not going to change. You have not
come across the bad service games in the Knicks. Three
out of the first four that's wow.
Speaker 1 (27:40):
Yeah, it's real, man, and all three wins down nine
or more points at a halftime.
Speaker 2 (27:47):
Well, this is where I felt good. Going to the
fourth court.
Speaker 1 (27:50):
I said, well, okay, it's it's it's you know, we're
not down twenty, all right, so I'm feeling okay even
at halftime. I was right, we're not down twenty at halftime,
I'm alright. Go back to the end of that first
court It's like, oh, it's gonna be another one of the.
Speaker 2 (28:01):
Celtics start hitting all the threes.
Speaker 1 (28:03):
Right, the Celtics hitting a bunch of threes, and it
turned you know, the Knicks turn that and you flip
that game. Because the Knicks play situational defense in the
playoffs now much much better than I thought they would, right,
because they lost their defensive identity the entire season, right,
they lost that. But now I'm thinking, how much is
that a little bit of ropidope? You know, Hey, we're
gonna do this and people think you're gonna get X
(28:25):
out of the Knicks, and instead we're gonna be able
to give you why because when we can tune it
up in the playoffs, when the playoffs get more physical.
And I remember Rick Bucker telling us that last week, saying, Hey,
the first two games, the biggest thing I see. The
Knicks physically are more ready for a physical playoff and
the Celtics aren't. And you know, if, yes, the Celtics
are gonna start hitting their shots, they're gonna start it
in threes, but they play NBA playoffs are physical, and
(28:48):
the Knicks are more ready for that. And clearly you
saw it, and you saw that tonight in the third
and fourth quarter where suddenly the Celtics on a night
they were hitting a bunch of stuff, they just couldn't
keep doing it, and the Knicks go on and it's
a it's a huge and Jalen Brunson and mcal Bridges
I think hit a combined forty five shots in a
row in the second a half and that helps the
next win. But we'll have more NBA coming up in
(29:09):
a few minutes. But just to go back, because we
saw the retirement of Derek Carr over the weekend, which
was a really big deal in the middle of his
big contract with the Saints. And look, the Saints were
trying to move on and Carr wasn't quite the same quarterback,
and they drafted Tyler Schuck to come in and potentially
be their next franchise quarterback. A Saints are the Saints
are bad, right, They're looking at starting over, and they
(29:30):
were kind of stuck with Derek Carr's contract. Now he
got to keep ten million dollars the signing bonus and
forfeiting the thirty million dollars a salary for this year.
Had he had an operation on his arm and gone
through this year. He would have collected that thirty million
dollars and would have gone on, but he wanted to retire,
wanted to do a right thing for New Orleans. They
let him keep the ten million dollars, so he's retired
from the NFL. Every quarterback that plays, as long as
(29:53):
he has a decade, has a legacy of some kind
of something where, hey, this is their effect on the
end FL. Sometimes it's a style of play. Sometimes it's
a level of excellence. Sometimes it's one moment in time
where things could have gone differently. And I go back,
go back to twenty sixteen, which is not that long ago,
where the Raiders look like they're on a collision course
(30:15):
with the Patriots. In the AFC Championship game. Raiders are
twelve and three. This is the best Raiders team since
they won the Super Bowl when when you know, since
they went to the Super Bowls back and back in
two thousand and three and they lost because you know,
Gruden had the plays so legally this time legally legally.
So they're in a collision course with the Patriots. And
(30:35):
Derek Carr breaks his leg in the last game of
the season. You hear the it's broke. It's broke.
Speaker 2 (30:40):
That's a ten year old drop that Alex Ticher continues
to play. It's broke, broke.
Speaker 1 (30:46):
His third year in the league, he was an elite quarterback.
He was a top seven or eight quarterback in the game.
Thirty touchdowns, ten picks. He was that good and the
Raiders were that good. I mean, I don't I think
they were probably the only team that that could have
derailed the Patriots. And he gets hurt and everything goes
out the window, and Derek Carr never is the same
(31:08):
the next four years. He's just kind of Okay, they
moved to Vegas. He has a couple of leaves. Okay,
he's a little bit better than he was.
Speaker 2 (31:14):
But Vegas they got twenty.
Speaker 1 (31:19):
But that was it. That was kind of like the
lay he had that one great last year. But it
was four years after his great year with the Raiders.
Had the Raiders gone to the Super Bowl that year,
had they won the Super Bowl, you wonder if if
are they in Vegas at this point, are they still
in Oakland? They still found a way to stay in Oakland.
Like in the NFL, dovetailed into a different level of
(31:41):
reality because of Derek Carr's injury, that that in that
team they were people forget how good because you think
the Raiders and no, the Raiders were terrific in twenty sixteen.
Go back and look at that team. They were again
twelve and three. They were rolling towards the super Bowl
or towards a date with the Patriots. They could have
won that game, gotten the super Bowl won, and then
maybe they're not in Vegas. Maybe another team is in Vegas.
(32:03):
Maybe it's a you know, some sort of expansion team
that's in Vegas, or they're not there at all. But
the NFL fortunes change at that point because the Raiders
couldn't have been the next great team in the AFC.
That could have derailed the Patriots a couple more times
on the way to twenty twenty, twenty twenty one, until
Brady left for the UH.
Speaker 2 (32:20):
For the Bucks. Maybe Brady leaves earlier if they wind
up losing. Maybe Brady doesn't leave if they don't win.
He wants to win again in New England before he's done,
and he's he plays there till twenty twenty four.
Speaker 1 (32:30):
He never goes to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. That Derek
Carr injury has a lot of different branches that the
NFL set off on that maybe things don't happen how
they did had he been able to stay, he you.
Speaker 2 (32:40):
Went full sliding doors. I look at you. Yeah, how
about that? I know you don't think the Raiders are
ever gonna could have in the division that year.
Speaker 3 (32:48):
They did because they lost their roster acting like Derek
Carr was amazing before that he was he was not
good those three Derek car was really good.
Speaker 2 (32:56):
He was good. No, he was really really good, good
with right good.
Speaker 1 (33:01):
Even if he settles in, he's still rank as it
would have ranked as the top twelve to fifteen quarterbacks
certainly fantasy wise had a couple of big years that year.
You see whose stars were? Do you remember who was
on that squad? Hope was that Darren McFadden was still
running back? No, No, in twenty sixteen, No, he wasn't.
Speaker 2 (33:21):
He was long going by then. No, he was Bo Jackson.
Speaker 1 (33:24):
But he was a two thousand and eight drash Bo Jackson.
So Jackson was Oh wait, twenty thirteen was his big year.
I think right, twenty thirteen McFadden's big year. I'll go
back and look at his history really big. He doesn't
matter here for the purpose of this conversation the answers. No,
it's Latavious Murray with twelve touchdown runs under eight hundred rushing. Yeah,
that was a big run for him. Jalen Richard and
(33:46):
that was Jamas Cooper and Crabtree Cooper and yeah that
was They were really good. But all of that to
say is that he whether it changed how he operated
in the pocket.
Speaker 2 (33:57):
He became a jag.
Speaker 1 (34:00):
Right. He was good, but not great, a good touchdown
interception ratio, but when you needed him to make a play, uh,
you know when we're talking to all mister clutch for
your guy Brunson. If we're gonna keep having that in conversation,
and that's the thread that pulls it all together. Derek
Carr was anything but that in big moments of games, right,
the fourth down situations, throwing it out of the end zone.
Speaker 2 (34:23):
Late games, the heroics were not there.
Speaker 1 (34:25):
Now. He was surrounded by bad teams for much of it. Yeah, right,
A lot of those Raider teams are littered with Hey,
they had one or two stars and that was a.
Speaker 2 (34:34):
Young Khalil Melts.
Speaker 1 (34:35):
I mean though, one or two guys defensively that made
plays like he had here with Max Crosby before he
leaves for New Orleans, but never were able to put
it back together again. So like that was an extraordinarily
healthy squad until he was broken and they never put
Humpty Dumpty back together again. But there's no chance at
(34:57):
hell they were staying in Oakland. They were never getting
a d super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (35:00):
You get there. I'll tell you. City's not suddenly coming
up with a bunch of money.
Speaker 1 (35:05):
You can tell us all you won. No, they would
have just kicked the a's out. They would just listen,
we have no money for you. We're kicking you out
so we can keep the Raiders. Yeah, they were still
gonna be gone. Now he's bathing in money.
Speaker 2 (35:16):
Exit out out of Fresco, exit swalling home.
Speaker 1 (35:18):
Coming up next and big NBA story from tonight we
told you was gonna happen on Friday.
Speaker 2 (35:24):
That's next, Jason Mike Fox. Be sure to catch live
editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays
at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific.
Speaker 1 (35:35):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Harmon. Yes, her, four more minutes have gone
by in game four, and it's still a twenty point
lead for the Tea Wolves. They lead the Warriors one
to eleven to ninety one just under five minutes left
to go. Uh, looks like the t Wolves are going
(35:55):
up three to one again. Kind of elementary, but I
said it at the time. Hey, every time Steph Curry
doesn't play, that's gonna be a win for the t Wolves. Well,
especially what's happened the guy that's supposed to be the
man decides he's not gonna shoot Hi Jimmy buckets.
Speaker 2 (36:11):
But again, we'll have more on this game coming up
in a few minutes.
Speaker 1 (36:13):
Mark Stein gonna stop by break down all the big
NBA news tonight, including the NBA Draft lottery that goes
the way of the Dallas Maverick Cooper Flag is the
player to be named later in the Luca Dontage trade
A tell people forgot about that Nico Harrison walking across
the stage flipping up his middle fingers at everyone. I
(36:35):
mean figuratively. He didn't actually do that, but you know
he was doing that somewhere. Look on Friday night, I
said this a couple of times, and.
Speaker 2 (36:44):
I didn't.
Speaker 1 (36:45):
I'm saying I don't know anything I don't know anything
about anything, but there is no way that on Monday,
the number one pick in the draft does not go
to the Sixers, the Mavericks, or the ball One of
those three teams was getting the number one I didn't
care what the mathematical odds were. One of those teams
(37:07):
was getting the number one pick in Cooper Flagg. Whoever
told me the odds?
Speaker 2 (37:10):
Who is the.
Speaker 1 (37:11):
Latest generational talent to enter the league? And every few
years we get a look, He've had three generational talents
in the last decade. Right, we had Zion, we have Wemby,
and we have Cooper Flag. Now the NBA you go
back Wemby terrific. Hoping he's healthy enough to come back.
Remember blood clots or it's more of a medical thing
than it is an injury. We're hoping he comes back,
and who knows when he comes back. He looked good
(37:33):
on the pitch a couple of weeks ago in media.
I'm hoping, right, they're hoping he can come back. From
the beginning of the season, he's in San Antonio. Zion
has been a disaster in New Orleans. He can't stay healthy,
he can't become the player we thought he was gonna
be He's gonna be Shaquille O'Neil.
Speaker 2 (37:48):
Now here comes Cooper Flag. Uh did nutsy again? I
don't know anything, and I'm not just saying. I'm just saying.
I'm not saying. I'm just saying.
Speaker 1 (37:59):
The three biggest teams, heritage, big market teams, popular teams
in the lottery, Bulls, Mavericks, Sixers, Cooper Flag was gonna
start with one of those teams, and tada, hear the
Dallas Mavericks, who suddenly their future post Luca looks really
really good with Flag and a healthy Kyrie Irving eventually
(38:21):
Ad already suddenly the Mavericks can be at the top
of the West. And now they have money to spend
this year as well. They're gonna have Cooper Flag and
money for a star player. I'm telling you the Mavericks
can jump to the top of the Western Conference like that,
because I'm not even wasn't even counting. I said in
the off season, they're not paying money to Luca obviously,
so they have that money to give to a star
(38:42):
to come into play alongside Ad and Kyrie. Now it's
someone to come in and play with Cooper and Kyrie
and Ad and they have money for it.
Speaker 2 (38:49):
Uh tuda. But again I'm not saying I knew anything
because I did. I didn't know anything. I did it,
but I knew that this.
Speaker 1 (38:56):
Draft lottery one point eight percent chance or the Dallas
Maverick to get Cooper Flagg and they get Cooper Flegg.
Speaker 2 (39:03):
Well we've seen it before.
Speaker 1 (39:04):
One point eight percent chance of Derrick Rose going to
the hometown Bulls. Go on down the line forty years ago,
the frozen envelope anniversary of your Nicks getting Patrick Ewing.
Speaker 2 (39:16):
You had the year Lebron James is.
Speaker 1 (39:19):
Eligible for the draft, Tada, it's the Cleveland Cavaliers. And
then the year he leaves, they get the number one
overall pick, and then you go, Ad gets traded.
Speaker 2 (39:29):
What happens?
Speaker 1 (39:29):
Pelicans get that pick? This year Luca gets doubt? What happens? Hey,
we go to the MAVs and for the Mavericks, the organization,
we talked about all the money that was going out
the door. The Yeah, they saved a lot by not
spending on Luca. Okay, and it cost him a hundred
million dollars or whatever that math is when it's all
said done. But they had lost out on all that
international advertising. Guess what get You get the hope, you
(39:51):
get Cooper Flagg, you get the next big thing, right,
a homegrown guy, and all of that that goes into
it to where you start saying, well, that's gonna be
worth several hundred million dollars right back into the tills
by bringing him to town. And to your point, they've
already got a collection of players, whether Klay Thompson's there
or not, to get into the fray. I wouldn't have
(40:11):
been shocked if it was suddenly san Antonio with the
health questions of Wenby. But with what they've assembled, you
got Castle, you got Vassal, you got dearon.
Speaker 2 (40:22):
Fox comes in right.
Speaker 1 (40:23):
They made that deal to bring in Fox and really
didn't have to get rid of anything, and now they
have the number two overall pick. It is interesting that
Ace Bailey did measure like two and a half inches
shorter than what they purported he was in college, so well,
it's some fuzzy math that we'll have to ferret out
as we get towards draft day. But yeah, the Mavericks
walking away, Nico Harrison, the NBA, everybody kind of nods
(40:46):
wings and moves on.
Speaker 2 (40:48):
But ten people.
Speaker 1 (40:49):
You could really market tinfoil hats with logos the way
this draft lottery seems to go.
Speaker 2 (40:55):
With great regular mouths have captured the flag.
Speaker 1 (41:00):
Boo.
Speaker 2 (41:00):
We have more on this. More on the night, Huge
Night in the NBA.
Speaker 1 (41:04):
Mark Stein NBA Insider Extraordinaire joins us. Next, are the
Celtics done? Are the Warriors done? This is Fox Sports
Radio
