Speaker 2 (00:22):
Ever give you're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:31):
Hello, Welcome in Side hour three The Jason Smith Show
with my best friend Mike Harmon. Heeha, Well, the no
hitter is over. No Chavez ravine. Just moments after Steve
de Sager says, hey, no hitter boy, we got yeah, no,
no no, don't you know Byamamoto gave up a hit. However,
they get out of the inning without any run score,
(00:53):
so the Dodgers still lead the Diamondbacks one nothing. As
the Dodgers bat in the bottom of the seventh. I
think Steve was trying to save Amamoto's arm, given.
Speaker 3 (01:01):
The spate of injuries afflicting the Los Angeles Dodgers at
this point, that the extra wear and tear on this
day here in mid May was not worth the extra pitches,
because he wasn't gonna probably wasn' gonna finish the game
unless you're not a bunch of one pitch out.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
No, I disagree, though, this was a massive lifeline. Oh
Jeffers gas and they stink. Yeah, I mean Key Hernandez
was warming up even though they had Dodgers had a
no hitter. I mean, it really just gave that pitching
staff life. Yeah, well I need it right, Well, no
question about its first time, first time in a week.
They didn't give up a run in the first inning
(01:39):
last Wednesday. Yeah, I mean it's been a week of
games where hey, we're behind in the first inning, we
come to back like that. You can't win many games
that way.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
No, It's makes for a lot of excitement in terms
of comebacks, but certainly the pressure on the pitchers to
be perfect. When we're also talking like I said, I
mean we're already last year where they have nineteen different
starting pitchers. We're getting close to that already. Well No, yeah, yeah,
yeah tonight. I mean Greg Maddix had nothing on that.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
No, No, I mean Bill, look at this point, Maddox,
I think you can throw them a couple of innings.
I think I'd be going and getting him in Las Vegas.
Bring it back, Greg Maddicks can throw a couple of innings,
not many, but he could probably throw a couple of
d Yeah, just moving the ball around, going, man, this
guy's like sixty look at what he throws. Yeah, Maddix
can do it.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
I want an extra paragraph plaque added to my resume
there for Cooperstown.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
So we got more baseball coming up. At about twenty minutes.
John Paul Morosi stopping by the latest on Juan Soto.
Is it doom and gloom for so? Does he hate
the Mets and wand out? We'll have more on that,
but it's all your fault. Big night in the NBA. Yes,
we had a night off yesterday from from the NHL
and the NBA, which we had tonight off from the NHL.
(02:50):
But we saw Game one of the Western Conference Finals
go to the Oklahoma City Thunder. They beat Minnesota one
fourteen eighty eight. And we start the Eastern Conference Finals
to the Knicks and the Pacers live from New York. Already,
I'm getting into lockdown mode where I okay, I'm I'm ready.
It's I'm I'm locked in on the Knicks and I'm
(03:13):
ready to start the series. It's okay. I could have.
I wanted the series to start four days ago. I
was ready, ready, ready, ready, But okay, we had four days.
Everybody needs to rest. The Knicks play there started is
forty eight minutes a night.
Speaker 3 (03:23):
So oh agrees with sure day off, There's no question
about it. Uh yeah for tomorrow you're getting is almost
nine hundred dollars.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
Yeah, the Knicks are here to save the NBA playoffs.
They are here to save the playoffs. We should have
sent you as a correspondent. Mean you still do the show? Rick, Carlisle,
Jason Smith, Fox Sports Radio. Boy, what'd you think of
the officiating tonight? Rick, what'd you think? Look at these
big market teams really getting a big time advantage, don't
(03:52):
you think?
Speaker 4 (03:52):
Rick?
Speaker 1 (03:52):
Don't you think Game one is tomorrow? Yeah, I'm giving
you a chance to get out ahead of it, you know,
get out of it because I know you're gonna complain about
the officiating at some point, So I'm letting your chances
are now. Then maybe you can get things going for
Game one. Maybe is Oklahoma City bigger than Minneapolis? St? Paul? No, No,
imbody guess now? I would say hang on I would say,
say it tongue planted firmly. Market size. I would say
(04:16):
Minnesota is somewhere between fifteen and twenty, and I would
say Oklahoma City is maybe somewhere thirty ish. That's what
I'll say, look it up, look it up, Okay, market
market Minneapolis markets ALSODA could be higher than that Minneapolis
at fifteen to twenty though it could be it could
be Minneapolis market size. Markets.
Speaker 3 (04:38):
Yeah, I need you do more of this research off
of our nearly five hundred stations nationwide.
Speaker 1 (04:43):
Ready to come and visit. Minneapolis is fifteenth.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
This is why I love A fifteenth or sixteenth. There
you go. This is this is why I love AI
because now you can type in anything and get an
answer right away, where sometimes you have to kind of
go through and go, okay, where are the matches on Google?
But now he I just gives you the answers. You
also have to hope it's right. Is it right?
Speaker 4 (05:05):
Well?
Speaker 1 (05:05):
I don't. I don't think AI is wrong in something
like that. Oklahoma City is twentieth okay, so fifteen and twenty. Wow,
Malcahoma City is that Okay? All rights have moved up,
has moved up? The last few years. Okay, so fifteen
and twenty, how about that? And you said nine hundred
dollars to get in, Mike, Yeah, the little over the
hell is Josh Hart getting in? Oh so, just so,
(05:30):
going into the game tomorrow, we can already see who
is going to try to glom onto this series to
stay relevant, Shallom, just like he did with Shalaman, Shaman
has to show up. He shallowmy now. But just like
he did last year when he showed up saying, hey
remember me, the Boogeyman is back. Reggie Miller will be
calling this series Pacers Star, who, of course the forefront
(05:53):
of many Knicks PACER's playoff series of the past. Look
the Knicks and the Pacers playoff series. You'll get a
chance to look back at it. From the ninth all
the way through to last year. They've had some of
the best playoff battles. They're synonymous with each other. I
think they've met seven times since the mid nine to the
last twenty five years, and some of the greatest moments
of all time. Obviously Reggie Miller eight points and nine seconds.
(06:14):
You know, his duel with Spike Lee and the choke
sign has become a big deal, and he's been hated
in New York since then. He's always been about you know,
his legend was made over that.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
Uh So, the Knicks have an all time series lead
regular and postseason combined by two games, two playoff records
Pacers twenty six to twenty two in the last when
I think it's it's six and three, the pace five,
the Pace one. No eight times Pacers have won five,
the Knicks have won three in the last twenty some
odd years. Right, the Knicks won that series that Miller
(06:50):
had the eight points and nine seconds. But you know,
Reggie becomes synonymous with the Knicks. And now you know,
Reggie gone on to be a big broadcaster. And uh
he Cheryl Miller's he took a video today. I believe
it was in Central Park where he wanted to see
what the reaction of New York was going to be
because the Boogeyman is back again, as he's.
Speaker 1 (07:10):
Gonna be doing the games. So here he was. Here's
some of Reggie's video, just him, just selfie video, people
walking around behind him and and this is Reggie Miller.
All right, we'll see what goes on now, Okay, I
live rent free in a lot of New Yorker's heads. So, yes,
they're still mad. But as you see, people are.
Speaker 5 (07:28):
Just casually walking by, running by. No one's gonna say anything.
We'll see you first one. How you doing, my friend?
Speaker 1 (07:40):
Thank you, sir? First one, Reggie Miller? Is that good career? Okay?
That's one. That's one. Yes, I am. We're doing a
live here.
Speaker 5 (07:54):
We wanted to see if anyone will say you Regi Miller?
What can I see?
Speaker 1 (08:00):
I see your eyes? Your eyes. You were part of
some of my favorite basketball come over here is that
Knicks police coming together. They're coming to pick him up.
They go, Reggie is doing some kind of live thing
in the park. Let's go get him, Let's bring him out.
So he had some fun interaction with some fans, but
he was trying to be an agitator, just like that
guy with the other day.
Speaker 3 (08:22):
What if they started throwing bodega garbage at him?
Speaker 1 (08:25):
Now, if I walk by, honestly, this is what I
would say, Reggie, Hey, Reggie, I would I would say, hey, Reggie, Hey,
great career. Thanks, gonna kick your ass tomorrow night and
the next three games after get ready for that sweep.
That's what I would have said gonna kick your ass
tomorrow and I got a little something something for you.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
Yeah, but he's a podcaster, he's a journalist covering this series.
Speaker 1 (08:43):
But here's the thing. Reggie Miller says, I live rent
free and Knicks in Knicks fans heads. Okay, I see
that where because look, obviously he is in his playoff
performance is performance has is a part of NBA history,
right that the eight points and nine seconds, the going
out with Spike Lee, that's part of the fabric of
the NBA. Absolutely, But just stop, man, You wouldn't have
(09:05):
the career you have now if you didn't have your
rivalry with the Knicks, and you didn't have that moment
in the playoffs against the Knicks. If you score eight
points and nine seconds against the Pistons, or eight points
and nine seconds against the Wizards, or yet you're not
Reggie Millers right to say Wizards. You became Reggie Miller
(09:26):
and nice sharpshooter who's having a nice career. And now
suddenly you become, in Reggie's words last year, the boogeyman.
Right what he has in his life now as a broadcaster,
long time broadcast people love it is because of the Knicks.
You owe everything you owe to the Knicks in that series,
and you're back and forth with Spike Lee. You owe
(09:46):
everything to that because honestly, there's not a lot of
room for a guy to be an NBA legend who
scored eighteen points a game. Because that's what Reggie Miller did, right,
eighteen points a game. He was a five time All Star. Right,
he played eighteen years. That means every three or four
years he was good enough to be an All Star. Right,
eighteen points per game over the course of his career,
(10:07):
that's what Reggie Miller averaged, right, being a Garden East
she didn't have a lot of room there, I know,
but still, if you're that great, right, But the fact
that he did this against the Knicks in the Garden
and Spike Lee, that's his career. His career as an
NBA star was made because of that. His career as
a broadcaster was made because there was interest in him. There.
He owes the Knicks what he has. So all this
(10:29):
all the Knicks live rent free him. Okay, I get
that part, but you should say, hey, but I gotta
thank you Knicks and Nick fans, because boy, I have
this life. I have I wouldn't have if I didn't
do that against you guys in you because it was different,
because of the way that unfolded.
Speaker 3 (10:43):
No, that's a paragraph in the letter he has read
at his funeral. Okay, until that day, you hype the
hell out of this.
Speaker 1 (10:51):
This is it, right, This.
Speaker 3 (10:53):
Is why you're on the All seventy fifth anniversary team.
This is why you have all of these accolades. Is
that this has been built up WWE style for a
quarter century.
Speaker 4 (11:05):
Right.
Speaker 3 (11:05):
We talked about it with the joking about Seinfeld, right, Ah,
me and Reggie Miller and Spike Lee. We went to
a strip club, right, the Kramer line, all of those things.
When when Kramer was sitting courtside, it becomes stuff, a
pop culture legend.
Speaker 1 (11:19):
And every year on the anniversary, it's like, can you
believe this happened? And anytime we see a collapse in
the final minute two minutes of a game, you get
to pull that video and you get to show the
ineptitude of a squad trying to close something out and
one man's heroics. So for Reggie Miller, yeah, he's fully
recognizing it at every turn. But what's he gonna do?
(11:42):
He's gonna jab. He's gonna jab to say, hey, I'm
sitting there and buying Nicks fans, thanks for the life
I have.
Speaker 3 (11:49):
No, he's not retiring once he's been retired and put
out the pasture, and nobody wants to put a microphone
in front of him anymore. And he's not able to
go and do a cameo video toatroll Knicks fans for
somebody's birthday and all of those things, and he sheds
this mortal coil. Sure there's gonna be a note that says, boy,
I couldn't have had the life I did without the Knicks.
Speaker 1 (12:11):
But you're not.
Speaker 3 (12:11):
Doing that now now because you need to keep fanning
the flames and in instigating you walk around Central Park.
Speaker 1 (12:22):
I'm saying it, recon It's good. I'm saying it now
because that's because.
Speaker 2 (12:25):
That's what folks person.
Speaker 1 (12:27):
He owes every He owes his entire career, his star power,
his reputation, his broadcasting career. He owes it all to
the new in your head. But I'm saying, but he said,
I live rent free in Knicks fans, and I get
that right because I think of the Reggie Miller eight
points and nine seconds, which is working.
Speaker 3 (12:46):
You curse at him every time he shows up on
a monitor, particularly when it's one of these games right justin.
Speaker 1 (12:52):
I mean, we've watched it for eleven years.
Speaker 3 (12:54):
Anytime it could be a December regular season game.
Speaker 1 (12:57):
If Reggie Miller is anywhere near a Nick Pacers game,
even if he's sitting in the third row, you're cursing
at him. And he agitates the hell out of you.
Speaker 3 (13:06):
If we put you on a heart monitor, him showing
up on the screen still agitates you all these years later,
and now he's proving it by doing this video.
Speaker 1 (13:16):
Even though you weren't in Central Park, it sensed you.
I'd love to be in Central Park for that. That would
like Central Park. But that that's who he is. Just
admit you owe everything. You owe your entire life. He
was an MVP. Everything you and your eighteen points a game.
You owe entirely to the Knicks, everything you had, five
time All Starts, relevant, third Team, third Team, All NBA
(13:41):
Third Team third Team. You owe it all. Just admitted, Reggie,
I know what I'm getting you for your birthday. Exit

Tanis just let off the eighth inning with a double
off the wall and left. Dodgers continue to lead the
Diamondbacks one nothing, the no hitter over for a couple
of innings for Yoshinoba Yamamoto. But the Dodgers may be
breaking their four game losing streak tonight. The guy was falling,
could be there, could be there.
Speaker 4 (16:40):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (16:42):
From the NBA really quick, We're gonna have something really
fun coming up in about twenty minutes because Mike Malone
making his ESPN debut tonight, former Nuggets head coach. I
don't have to call him Michael anymore, so Mike, Yeah,
we just called it. Yeah, like you, it's me just Mike.
Here's Mike. Why don't you just to go by Mike?
So uh, he said something really interesting in his post
(17:06):
game and all of a sudden, Hey, hot, take Mike
Malone because it goes directly against something he said about
six weeks ago. So we're gonna bring that for you
coming up in about twenty minutes. He's a thing in
the post game tonight. Wow, okay, directly opposite of something
he said six weeks ago. So we're gonna play those
(17:26):
things for you. That microphone ESPN did They said, Okay,
who's fired? We can have him?
Speaker 4 (17:31):
Come on?
Speaker 1 (17:31):
All right, great, come on and let's talk about it.
They needed one more. Nah, Hey, Doc, you want to
go No never, no, no, Doc. No one's they're not
calling Doc at this point. His titles a while back. Yeah,
but why wouldn't you though, I mean he was on
TV for a long time. I'd call Doc again.
Speaker 2 (17:46):
Yeah, why not?
Speaker 3 (17:47):
Michael Malone's fresh Yeah, but he's still freshly wounded off
of getting fired. Oh, a couple of years removed from
a title. I mean he still has more skin in
the game, more angst. Yeah, no, Dot just recently you know,
had in his year in all but all.
Speaker 1 (18:02):
Yeah, but no, but Doc would at least give you
more stories. No, no, no, Jannis is great, but it's
his fault. Why we lost. It's not me, it's his fault.
And if he wants to go, I don't know what
to tell you. I don't know. I don't know. If
this isn't far from it, there could be a reality
where next year, think about this, Doc River stays and
Yannis goes. Just think about that for a second. You
(18:24):
just gotta order the code. Repme out. We got more
coming up in ninety seconds, but first let's find out
what's trending in the wide world of sports. The guy
who's been called the Doc Rivers of Fox Sports Radio
because when he gets the end of a shift his
voice gets a little horse. It's Steve de Seger, and.
Speaker 2 (18:42):
It's not Blake's fault.

the Dodgers announcer not there at the stadium tonight because.
Speaker 1 (20:52):
Well his give me meets Freddy. I think that's when
won it for him, right there, Give me Meat, Freddy.
Speaker 6 (20:56):
Charles Barkley did wins for studio Analyst and Ernieas and
for Best Host in Sports TV. As for late night baseball,
we do have the Dodgers going to the ninth with
a lead of one nothing over the Diamondbacks. Arizona was
being no hit through six by LA starter Yoshinobu Yamamota.
Dodgers pitching in the last couple of weeks at an
ERA of five, so they really needed this outing. He
(21:18):
went seven innings, nine strikeouts, one hundred and ten pitches thrown,
Dodgers trying to end a four game losing streak. The
Dodgers started the night first place in the NL West
half game over the Padres, one up on San Francisco.
The Padres got shut out three to nothing at Toronto.
Chris Bassett beat Dylan Cees. The Blue Jays only had
three HiT's, but two of them were homers. The Giants
(21:39):
have won at home three to two against Kansas City.
The Angels are holding on in Sacramento five to four
over the A's In the bottom of the eighth, the
Phillies won again, record of thirty and eighteen five straight
wins for the Phills. They won at Colorado, but it
still counts as a full victory, seven to four to
the final. Kyle Schwarber his seventeenth home run. The Rockies
(21:59):
could be all already twenty one and a half games
out in the division. After tonight, Jesus Lizardo five and
oho got the win for the Pills, the loss to
Antonio Senzatela one and eight already, but he did lower
his era to six point three four. White Sox won
nothing over Seattle, Boston shut out the Mets to nothing,
(22:20):
and Aaron Judge at his sixteenth homer as the Yankees
beat Texas five to two.
Speaker 1 (22:24):
Back to you, Thank you, Steve O. So it's been
a thing the last couple of days with Juan Soto
not hustling, that Joe Right doesn't run out of grounder
against the Yankees, doesn't run out a fly ball off
the wall and left field of the Green Monster last night,
there's been some issues. Manager Carlos Mendoza says, I'll talk
to him about it, because you got a run, Right,
(22:45):
can't not hustle in New York. On top of this,
you have Yankee play by play man Michael k with
a report that Hey, I hear that he's glum and
he's unhappy and he wanted to be a Yankee, but
his family wanted him to go to the Mets. Now
also prevace this by saying this will be denied, which, okay,
don't report it. Then if you're making something up or
(23:06):
you're just saying something where you heard he here, because
nobody reports things like that. Insiders don't say, here's a report,
it'll be denied. But you know that that's exactly what
Michael k did. He said three times, it'll be denied,
It'll be denied. Yankee play by play man radio show
in New York said, oh yeah, Wan Soda wanted to
be a Yankee. Saw the big crowds this weekend at
(23:26):
Yankee Stadium, but his family wanted to be a Met. Wow.
So the world of baseball dealing with a lot of
stuff with the seven hundred and sixty five million dollar man. Yeah,
joining us now on the hot line a man who's
going to be in the middle of that. Tomorrow night,
part of the MLB Showcase Game of the Week, Game
three is the Mets try to score a run. They've
lost the last two to the Red Sox, but running
(23:49):
the sidelines for this game Tomorrow night will be John
Paul Morosi. He joins us now on the hot line
on Twitter at John Morosi MLB Network, Fox Sports Radio
baseball insider John PAULA, what's happening.
Speaker 4 (24:00):
Man, I'm doing great. Good morning from Boston. I just
just arrived in town. It's twelve thirty am Eastern time,
so I'm calling you from the future. It is certainly
going to be an interesting day at the ballpark. We've
talked a lot, just as a production team about where
we're at with storylines in this particular matchup. As you
(24:23):
point out, the Mets have managed just one run in
the first two games of the series, so a lot
of focus on the offense and especially on Juan Soto, who,
according to my Razor Sharp mathematical calculations, is less than
two percent of the way through a fifteen year contract.
(24:44):
Less than two percent, my friends, we are just getting started.
Speaker 1 (24:48):
All right. So John Paul, what do you make of
what's gone on the last few days. Obviously they're not hustling.
Something documented the reports. He wanted to be a Yankee,
but he stayed with the Mets for his family. What
do you make people you've talked to, what are you
thinking in this?
Speaker 4 (25:01):
Well? A couple things.
Speaker 7 (25:03):
Number one that I think Carlos Mendoza, the manager's done
a very good job of handling this, because he did
not confirm or deny that he's already had the conversation
with Soto.
Speaker 4 (25:16):
He acknowledged, which I think is the true human thing here,
that he's frustrated and whether he wanted to be a
Yankee and it didn't work out because of financial reasons
or the negotiations, or if it truly is as Michael
k reported, his extended family's wishes that tipped the scales,
which I hope for his sake that that was not
(25:37):
the case, but perhaps it was. And the reality is this,
we have seen a very recent example, very recent example
of a well known player who for months after leaving
his his original team, expressed remorse about the way the
(25:59):
things that played out, and yet somehow found his way
to contentment in his new place and is now an
icon with that team. And his name is Freddy Freeman.
So Juan Soto has to hope that his pass is
similar to Freddie Freeman in that regard, because that now
it's still different East Coast, West Coast, the intensity of
(26:19):
the rivalry. But what I think, and if I'm taking
a step back here, the emotional reaction of this past
weekend for Juan Soto. Last year, he spent everywhere he went,
everybody wanted to be his friend, right even when he
was on the road. Everybody was being especially gracious din
(26:39):
because he wanted them, because they wanted him to sign
with their team. He was the most popular person in baseball. Well,
then he goes to the Yankee Citium last weekend and
realizes he is no longer the most popular person in
the Bronx. There is no doubt about that. He is
not the most popular person there, and he's not really
playing that great. He's still playing well, but not rate
(27:00):
with the Mets. And I think that's the human side
of things that Carlos was talking about, that he's frustrated,
and you can understand that he's going to have to
find a way, guys, to reach some level of contentment
in his new place, because again, he is less than
two percent of the way in to a fifteen year contract,
and he's going to need to find a way to
(27:23):
either either love his new home or take some acting
lessons and make it seem that way because he's got
a long way to go, and there's gonna be a
lot of reporters and cameras watching every single movie makes
between now and then.
Speaker 3 (27:36):
Well, I mean, you would have thought some of the
pressure would have been off because he would have been
asked constantly for getting things signed by Aaron Judge, so
at least that pressure was off JP.
Speaker 4 (27:47):
So yes, yes, And I think along those lines with
the Judge relationship, I guess two things. Two things stand
out to me. Number one, the Yankees are Judges team, period,
full stop. They were his team last year, they would
have been his team this year even if Soda would
(28:08):
sign with them, and they're going to be Judge's team
for as long as his contract is in effect. And
he's the Ink. That's how big of a personality Aaron has,
and he does it in an understated way. He's just
he is just universally respected, honestly, in a way somewhat
similar to the way that Jeter was. There's just everybody
(28:31):
looks to him. And that is a lofty comparison, but
I think it's accurate. And maybe in retrospect, Soda realizes
how good he had it last year because you're playing
in the same lineup as one of the greatest players ever.
And also Judge is taking the mantle of the captain
and the person that the media goes to it and
(28:52):
absorbing all the attention. I think Soto might I'm saying,
Mike now be realizing how good he had it now
he's got it great with the Mets, and no one's
ever going to feel sorry for him with the contract, etc.
But it's just a little bit more complicated. Whose team
are the Mets. It's hard. It's hard to come in
and sign a contract like this and have it not
(29:14):
be your team. But if you were to ask Mets
fans who is the most beloved person in your heart
as a Met, who was the most popular player there,
you might say that it's Alonso because he's been a
Met forever. Lindora's really taken on this leadership role. And
then there's Soto who's kind of struggling right now by
(29:34):
his standards. It's a very complicated thing, and it wouldn't
surprise me if by actually seeing the Yankees up close
this weekend he says, you know what, things were a
little simpler, a little easier, and perhaps even a little
bit better last year. He's not going to say that,
of course, in front of the cameras, but the last
weekend might have put that into focus for him.
Speaker 1 (29:55):
Well, here's the thing. It was never going to be
his team in the Bronx because it's Aaron Judges team.
I think that's a little bit overrated. I look at
it this way. I think it's pretty simple. Great players
want to play well, and I can't believe that after
just two months in which the Mets are in first place,
they're not the Rockies. Not eight and forty right, I
mean there are a game and a half out of it.
They've been in first place. They're scuffling now, but it's May.
(30:17):
They're not ten games under their ten games over. So
the Mets are playing really well. They've welcomed him. I
can't believe he's miserable. I'm sure all of his glumness
is because he's not hitting. All great players want to hit,
John Paul. I think in six weeks it's gonna be bory.
Remember when that whole Wan Soda was miserable thing happened
like six weeks ago. Now he's hitting. He's too good
(30:37):
a player not to He will hit. He'll get used
to his surroundings. I'm not really worried. It's a hot
story now, but I think in six weeks, we're gonna say, Bory,
remember that, and it's gonna seem like it was four
years ago.
Speaker 4 (30:47):
And it may well be the case again, just as
the Freddie Freeman wanted to be a brave story has
dissipated significantly when you really pull back. And oh, by
the way, the other slugger who had a lot of
storylines involving him this season in rap Faeld Devers who's
involved in this series, that whole storyline about first base
(31:09):
and everything else went away, even though he hasn't actually
moved first base. But he's hitting right. And the great
thing about baseball and in most sports is not always,
but a lot of the time when you perform, the
chatter goes away. And I think that's what has to
happen for Soto. He's just gonna have to perform back
(31:31):
to that standard. And all that being said, though, when
you look at his personality and the way that he
plays the game, I will say this, we have not
really seen him with the Sodo shuffle and being really
demonstrative and big smiles on the field, just human behavior
observing he doesn't quite seem to have that same level
(31:54):
of vigor and excitement around him. He just doesn't now. Again,
the numbers will eventually potentially bring that up and make
that a'll go away. But we're we're not seeing the
solo shuffle right now, and I think that's a very
interesting observation of his, of his brafts overall level of
(32:14):
happiness and excitement that he's seeling right now not being
quite what it was with the Yankees.
Speaker 1 (32:19):
Jason Smiths Show with Me. Mike Harmon here from the
Fox Sports Radio studios on the hotline with us our
body MLB Network, NHL Network. It's John Paul Morosi at
j O N M O r Osi on Twitter. Leave
out the h because Mom said so. Talking all things
Major League Baseball as we do each week. So last
one for you JP. Dodgers losing streak, Scuffling pitching has
(32:42):
been an issue time and time again. Kershaw back Yamamoto
put the team on his shoulders tonight. Moves in the
off thing, do we see them get creative? What do
you think the next phase is here for this Dodger organization?
Speaker 4 (32:58):
You know, Mike, it's an excellent question. I don't think
that now is the time to make moves, as difficult
as it may sound. At least with the pitching staff.
We've obviously seen them already move on from a couple
mainstays in Barnes and Taylor on the position player side.
But if you were to make a move for let's
just say Sandy Alkanta right now, which which I don't
(33:20):
think is going to happen anytime soon, but just hypothetically,
then what happens when Sasaki comes back, and glass Now
and Snell, assuming all of them come back, which I
think right now they're assuming that they will. There's just
there's too there'd be too much redundancy for you to
(33:40):
go out there and make a move right now. I
think you need more information. They're lucky, Mike in the
sense that the deadline is still far enough away that
by the time the deals actually have to get made,
go out and find your Jack Flaherty of twenty twenty
four on July thirtieth to thirty first, when you've got
a lot more informed about Sasaki and glass Now and Snell,
(34:02):
and you see how long Kershaw has been able to go.
I think that it was it worked out really well
for them that Kershaw was ready at a time when
they need him. And I think everybody realizes Kershaw is
not going to take the ball every fifth day for
the balance of the season that he will potentially likely
need some time on the eel again, just because of
(34:24):
how difficult this is on his body and on his
knee and on his toes. So no, there's a lot
going on with the Dodgers. But I think the answer
right now is you stay with your group. You're still
at the top of the division. If they all of
a sudden look up for they're five games back, then
I might give you a different answer. But the calendar
is on their side, the strength of their lineup is
(34:46):
on their side, and if if they were to make
any move, I might actually suggest the bullpen better than
the rotation because they've got a lot of issues back
there too. Yates on the il now Phillips and trying
in my goodness, there's just been a lot of attrition
already for the raigning World Series champs.
Speaker 1 (35:03):
He's on Twitter at John Morosi, MLB Network Insider. He's
on the showcase Game of the Week tomorrow Boston and
New York. John Paul have fun. Say hi to all
the Celtics fans.
Speaker 4 (35:13):
For me, I'll say out of the Celtics say that, Jason,
let's not forget which team gave gave your Knicks the
toughest run so far in this postseason. The Pistons, by far,
bye far, We're the tougher team, the Celtics. The margin
of victory over the Celtics in Game six was was
(35:35):
twice the margin combined in the in the Knicks four
wins over the Piston. So lest we forget the Pistons
starting this next dynastic run in Detroit.
Speaker 1 (35:48):
All right, that's good. Well we'll say that'll be next year,
John Paul, I'm worried about now, but next that's great.
That's awesome.
Speaker 4 (35:53):
All right, very good, all the best of the Doviknicks.
Speaker 1 (35:56):
Enjoy the game tomorrow night. Get the Mets some runs.
I have a good call, brother, see coming up next. Right.
Sometimes there are stats that make you stop in your tracks.
And there's a stat, there's a basketball stat coming off
the game tonight that I can't believe is true. We
get into that next. Jason to Mike Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (36:14):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific, Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (36:23):
The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon. Yeah,
we'll get back into the NBA coming up in a
few minutes, because boy, we got some great stuff from
former Nuggets coach Michael Malone DOINGSPN tonight and we got
some big stuff coming. But I saw this and I
can't believe it's true. Now, I don't doubt it's true.
FanDuel Sportsbook twist tonight. No, no, no, no, I don't know.
(36:46):
This is not Michael Kay saying oh it'll be denied. No, no,
this is not one of those crazy Michael Kay things.
But FanDuel Sportsbook, which has you know, five hundred thousand followers.
The official FanDuel Sportsbook account on Twitter put this out tonight.
Right tonight, Caitlin Clark seven points fifteen assists, had a
huge game fever lose to the Dream by one. They
have a rematch on Thursday night, Right, so twenty seven
(37:07):
and fifteen night for Caitlyn Clark. Fandels Sportsbook puts this
out there the most twenty point tennissist games in w
NBA history. Okay, see Miller twenty point tennissist games in
the w's history, which is now, you know, get going
on thirty years in this park, Diana Tarossi is in
(37:31):
third swoops Courtney Vanderslute. Vander Slut tied for first with
Caitlin Clark in ten games. All right, sorry, In forty
one games, Caitlin Clark has ten twenty ten games, twenty points,
ten assists. That ties her with Courtney Vanderslut who got
(37:55):
hurt ten in four hundred and thirty games, and Diana
Tarossi is third with nine in five hundred and sixty
five games. Just for a second, hey, if you think
Caitlin Clark is not the show, is not the league,
is not the league, not the franchise, it's not. In
forty one games, she has just as many twenty point
(38:17):
TENNISES games as the person who led the NBA for
their career. Just think about that for a second.
Speaker 3 (38:24):
Twenty seven eleven and five tonight in a one point loss.
They'll reup it on Thursday, so maybe she'll she'll break
it there.
Speaker 1 (38:32):
That could be.
Speaker 3 (38:33):
It could be already because we had the triple double
in the first game, so she's already got three of those.
The leader is Alyssa Thomas with fifteen career, and then
you've got well, and.
Speaker 1 (38:45):
Esca has four. That's it now, That's that's what we're
talking about all time levels. But to be already uh
tied for first the most ten games's hat two games
of your second year, forty one games. Forty one games
she's done like at that half that NBA season. At
the end, it's gonna be like Caitlin Clark one hundred
(39:07):
and seventy five twenty ten games. Courtney Randerslute second with ten, right, Like,
I mean, you realize how she's changing everything. Well, but
even go back to Saturday, right, we talked a lot
about the aftermath, and folks started swimming in waters they
had no business. And you're talking about three three million,
three a three rating two point seven for most of
(39:30):
the game, which was rivaling anything Baseball or anybody else
was putting up. Man some crazy numbers associated with her participation.
And you see the crowds, you see the moving to
bigger arenas when they need to, and all of those things,
and already denting the all time leader lists. Well, Jason,
(39:51):
where's Angel Reese on that list? Angel Reese is for
ten rebounds in a game, She's there the ten rebound games,
ten rebounds?
Speaker 4 (39:58):
Is it?
Speaker 1 (39:58):
Like the DP self high five. I mean really, I
I know that some people got attention today for takes
that we had a year ago, which is why we
always move on to new things. Angel Reese is a
great rebounder. It's what she does. She's Dennis Rodman, right,
She's a great rebound might have said that doesn't full Yeah,
she doesn't really do do other things like nobody does
things at Caitlin players. It's other She's an Angel Reese,
(40:20):
the star. She really good players. She's a rebounder to
what she does, right, She's a rebounder. And you talked
about moving a games. Now, The Dream normally play in
a thirty five hundred seed arena for their game Thursday
against the Fever. Gotta move it so we can get
nineteen thousand people at the game. I mean, this is
just how it goes. Fill the arenas. Eventually, the w
(40:42):
is just gonna say, Okay, let's embrace Caitlin. Can't we
just do that?
Speaker 2 (40:47):
Right?
Speaker 1 (40:48):
They'll be playing in football stadium soon. Wow, how about
that you're playing game to Soldier Field. Let's move that
game in Chicago to Soldier Field. Crazy Coming up next.
Two big stories out of the NBA from tonight right here,
Jason and Mike
