You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
Hello, Welcome in Side hour three The Jason Smith Show
with my bass friend Tony Manero, live from the tyrac
dot com studios. Spend a lot of time on my hair.
H Hey, he hits it. Congratulations to Mike Harmon. Yeah,
who Just moments ago, the Angels lead the Dodgers, or
led the Dodgers seven to nothing. Dodgers batting in the

(00:51):
top of the eighth inning and Harmon says, get ready,
here comes a meaningless home run from show. Heyo, Tani,
that's like saying waters wet. And I was like, okay,
meaning less home runs. But after last inning right bases loaded.
The Jets suck meaningless home runs, he said, meaningless home runs.
Oh we did, Yeah, say that to my face, Mike.

(01:12):
Here comes a meaningless home run. I didn't go so
far to say, hey, what what are the odds you
give me that he hits his home run? Well, because
here's the thing, so Anderson looks like he's got Otani
struck out on a two to two pitch, but it's
a little bit low, not in the not in the
strike box. We never got the the side view as
to where it crosses the play. Well, that's out the

(01:32):
window neck right, that's everyone ends in the box. The
next pitch, Otani Homer's to right center field. Now, you
would have been great because we know we used to
do this and it would be fun to do this here.
But I think people would steal the money. Like when
I was at ESPN and Fox and we were I
think we did in Radio two a little bit. With
ESPN Radio, we had a thing called the deep pool.

(01:54):
Deep pool, right, d ep got the dead pool like
Clint Eastwood. I did a couple of dead pools. Then
I stopped doing it. Was a bad karma, the deep pool. Okay,
DP new word p O O L, which was basically
it was a big coffee can and it cost you
a quarter. You would have to call that the guy

(02:16):
in a game you were watching like because you know
we're production assistants or we're watching games and it's on
all on all the TV screens. If you thought a
guy was going to hit a home run in that
at bat, you said, hey, I'm taking show, hey in
the deep pool, and you put a quarter in the can,
and if he hit a home run, you won all
the money that was whatever it was in the can. Okay,
if he didn't, it stayed and it built up. Do

(02:37):
you think our bosses would frown on such a here's
the thing here, dude, stuff disappears from the refrigerator. You
think the deep pool was good? People with the money
would stay. Forget it, man, even though I got in here.
Forget Like the guy's fishing for quarters at the another one,
not charity pools, not balls. If you if you took

(03:02):
Max Munsey in the deep pool, he just hit a
home run to cut this lead to seven to four.
And I think the Angels right fielder got hurt jumping
into the jumping into the padding to try to uh
to try to get the ball. Yeah, that that does
not look good there, I think. So I can't really
tell because he's just lying on the ground, but he's

(03:23):
holding his ankle if I yeah, it's very very much
doing the well that's what you trying to stop a
Max Mnsey home run. But to try to make the
plan that's stupid. But uh yeah No, I would love
to do the deep pool here, but there's no way,
I mean it with the money. Would just dis Like
I said, we had people that worked here and used

(03:43):
to work here. They would just take stuff out of
the refrigerator that wasn't theirs, just because they're like, yeah,
I know it's not mine, I'm gonna take it. Oh okay,
I can't leave right now, pennies forever my food. I'm
pulling the curtain back. We get to the quarterbacks in
a second. I know longer feel like I can leave
an unopened soda in the refrigera No that because I

(04:05):
know it's got twenty four hours later it's gone. It's
absolutely gone. People get thirsty, right, I know that walk
to the vending machine in the back. It's a long
the dollar the dollar ten for a can of diet coke.
But I I know I can't. I have to bring
it home with me every night. Like there's no way
I can leave it. Now, certain food, I think I
can leave for maybe twenty four hours maybe, but like

(04:28):
that might be pushing a coffee can with money in it.
Forget forget it, man, that's a And the thing is
that lived at ESPN and at Fox and Radio like
nobody touched it. Like even though there were no cameras
back that nobody touched it. It was a respect thing
where I put the money in you call it guy
hitting the home run. There was one time I know
you got any suspects here? And baggery, Oh there could

(04:51):
be the lot, there could be lots of like the
Jackson jet are plural. It's like, uh, it's like when
it's like when when Andy Samberg on Brooklyn, when Andre
bar would say, do you have looks with suspects peralta,
You would say, oh no, it's way too long. Because
he wanted to do some kind of game and he'd
showed us to like fifty people like yeah, we're we're
getting there. We're getting there, Sorrgy, We're getting there. But

(05:13):
uh but no, there's no way there, There's no way
I could I could do it because the money would disappear.
And in fact, and people tried to game the system
times and say like okay, like one time one guy
came in at ESPN and he had a roll of
quarters and he would just go every guy until he
thought someone was gonna hit on because roll a quarter
how many in roller quarters even thoughts how long it was, right, quarters, bucks,

(05:37):
whatever it was, And he did a quarter for every
single batter of of and yeah, you rolled these up rolling. Yeah,
he kept throwing a quarter in quarter, a quarter in
no home runs like they got like because he threw
whatever it was it was, you know, because you realize, oh,
he's gonna get it. But if you're doing it for
every batter, which is how you do it, you're only

(05:58):
gonna make it through like three in right, like you
know you're gonna you know, because it a hit, not
not a home run. The hit doesn't make you don't
get money back. You throw that money, you throw that
money at No, it's tough. And it was at one
point it got up till we counted it and it
got up to like fifty bucks, and then it was
suddenly was like, oh, I gotta win this. I gotta
win this. I gotta win this. I gotta win this.
I gotta win this. And I want to say, Harold

(06:19):
Reynolds won it. Wow, like he was. He was back
baseball tonight, right, he was the handles for baseball tonight.
But the biggest thing it was. For a second there,
I thought it was wow, Harold Reynolds hit the home run.
He came down and he he just said, oh, so
and so is gonna hit a home run and they
and he put a quarter in. We said to put
the money in, and he was like a guy making
more money than anybody, you know, just hit the just

(06:40):
hit the deepot. And I remember he took the can
with him. It's like, guys are gonna buyas food or anything.
This guy makes all this money. But then he brought
it back. He wanted to count it to see how
much money was in there, so he kind of brought
it back and it was over fifty bucks, right over
fifty bucks. And I think he put an extra couple
of dollars in, which is pretty cool, right, So he
put that in. I mean then you know they had
to but uh that we were like, oh yeah, I'm

(07:02):
gonna put more money in. And then I was off
for two days and I came back and it was
gone and somebody hit it and I never found out
who did it, Like, hey, you with the people. Oh,
I don't know somebody a couple of days. But it
was like a thing. It was like it was like
the twenty two year old equivalent of watching uh you know,
mega millions grow from like here, it's it's ten million, now,
it's fifty's one hundred million. Now, it's five hundred million.

(07:22):
Now it's seven hundred and fifteen millions. Like, oh, I
gotta keep playing. I gotta keep playing. Like that was
a twenty two year old equivalent something you can do
on Sundays here during football season or Saturdays. Who's scoring
the next touchdown? Man? Oh yeah, you'd have to call
it for that play. You have to say touchdown on
this play. You can't do it for a player. It's
that we say it though, like it's it's potential for
absolute chaos. Be like a betting part. You look like

(07:45):
the sting in here if we had that going, Yeah,
but I just throw it course. Yeah. The thing is
like if a team gets down in the one yard
in any game, you could do it for any game.
So team gets down to the one yard, you say, okay, hey,
Jalen Hurts quarterback sneak here. Oh I'm gonna win it.
I'm gonna win the touchdown pool. I say, he's gotta
be something else. He had to be got to do something different,
you know, hit something different. Like the deep pool was great,

(08:05):
but like again, the money would disappear, be gone. We
would have a deep pool, there would be seventy five
cents in at the end of the night. That seventy
five cents would be gone. With the time you and
I came in the next day, I could have seventy
five cents in there gone. I'm taking Alonzo deeple no,
Otani deeple no, Freddie Freeman, deeple no, seventy five cents,
seventy five cents gone. Somebody walking around drinking a soda going, yeah,

(08:26):
I took those three quarters out of there. Oh absolutely, Cohen,
you a sucker. Well they did it telling you. But
congratulations to Otani and uh you know, look a serious moment.
Right now, they have still not resumed play between the
Angel and Dodgers because he is still down in right
field after banging into the wall trying to make that catch.

(08:46):
Well he never got really jump. No, his leg hits
against the bottom of the the matting. Yeah, yeah, home
run the max. Right. So the monthly home run makes
it seven to four here outs top of eight. But
still they they've got Anaheim Fire and Rescue that brought
the cart out. Now they're bracing his leg. It's it's

(09:09):
a pretty grizzly, grizzly injury when you watch it on replay,
just the way his leg hits and buckles and down
he goes. I mean, all big thoughts of Gasavo comparo
who's out there, because he was feeling right away, you
could tell the fact. And I looked at I was like, ooh,
when you see an injury like that, or someone holding
their leg like that, you think I'm gonna see something
bet the other way or that. And at least there wasn't,

(09:30):
at least from what I've seen so far, because there's
still again you do you have fire and rescue out there, Uh,
you know, looking at him, and he's sitting up and
he's looking and he's and and so from that perspective,
you know he's okay. Uh, but they have they have
the card out there for him to take him off,
and he's still on the on the warning track. Uh.
It looks like they have uh stabilized his left leg

(09:52):
and they're now picking him up and carrying him over
to the cart where they're gonna place him on and
drive him off. It's a brutal, brutal moment for Campero
trying to make a play and lose the sight of
where the fence is and jams is left leg directly
into that embracing. Yeah, so again, we'll bring an update

(10:14):
on that, but it looks like that's what's happening, bringing
him onto the court, taking him off. The game should
resume in Anaheim in the next few minutes. Again, Angels
with a seven to four lead over the Dodgers. Now,
we talked about Dak Prescott earlier in the show with
Jason lock and for and a couple of big stories.
We'll get to the Matthew Stafford angle in a few minutes,
but you know, Rams and Cowboys playing Dak Prescott obviously

(10:37):
not but had some fun before the game with Rams
owner Stan Kronky. Everybody's hanging out at midfield talking. Jerry
Jones is there and what's become a big deal in
the last twenty four to thirty six hours has been
video of Dak Prescott telling Stan Cranky, all right, hey,
we'll see you back here for the NFC Championship. Can
we'll see in the NFC Championship game? All right? And
all of a sudden, oh, he's Dak Prescott guaranteeing the

(11:00):
Cowboys and the Rams at the NFC Championship game. Uh,
let's be serious about this before, before we get to
the fun. This is a nothing burger. Okay, this is
an absolute nothing burger. What do you expect Dak Prescott
to say, Well, probably win five or six games, I
don't know. All right, Hey, good luck this year. You
know what? This also, this is genius by Dak Prescott.
Not only is he saying you know, hey, you quote

(11:21):
me on this or whatever, it's getting all the attention
away because for about twenty four hour, everybody was kissing
the ass of Joe Milton. Yeah it's gonna be great. Yeah,
he's gonna take care of him, because we're hearing the
great and glowing things even going back to last year
or he's shown a little bit and it's like, all right,
this could be fun. And now in camp he's had
some moments and coming out of the preseason game, some

(11:43):
great headlines. Jerry Jones talking him up a bit. Yeah,
because he can't help but throw some more dirt debt.
So Dak Prescott said, Hey, Jerry, how about this. I'll
make you proud. We're going to the Super Bowl. And
look like I said, it's a nothing burger. It's it's
him just saying something fun. Right, It's a nothing burger
except in two cities. It's a nothing burger for all

(12:06):
you know. It's a nothing burger here in LA. It's
nothing burger in New York, nothing burger in Dallas, nothing
burger in Chicago, nothing burger in Houston, nothing burger. But
it's something in Philadelphia and Washington. Oh, the Super Bowl
champs and a team that made it to the NFC
Championship Game. L Oh, so you're gonna get to the

(12:29):
NFC title Oh you're gonna play the rams of the
NFC title game. Oh that's nice right there. Nothing burger everywhere,
but of course they're gonna remember in Philly, they're gonna
remember in DC. Now, okay, we remember when you said,
that's who's playing in the NFC Championship Game. That is
going to live all year long. Again, it's a nothing

(12:49):
burger except for those two cities. Oh, I gotta think
in Dallas though, No, well, we if you thought the
heat was on deck, look what he did now? Oh no, no,
his foot in his mouth. That doesn't matter. It would
still be the same whether he said it or not.
Could you get Micah Parsons in there? He could. He
could have been on video saying I want out, and
it would be exactly the same. The pressure would be

(13:10):
exactly the same. He could also be a video saying
I'm giving all my money back and playing for free,
and it would be It doesn't matter, it would be
the same. All the money's already gone. It doesn't matter.
It's all the same in Dallas, all the same. But Philadelphia,
now you think so? You think that's gonna be easy
enough to get by us into the NFC champion. Oh,
we'll see you, deck, We'll see you. Where do we
have you on the schedule? Now? Where's that? Where's wit?

(13:31):
Where is that? Where do we see you? Where are
you in the schedule? Now? Yeah? One hundred percent. If
I ever meet someone from Philly that randomly yells wiz
wit in the middle of a sentence, like a nervous tick,
just throw that wizwit in there. It's all in there,
one hundred percent. Exit out about a Fresca Exit Swallen Dome.

Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon, and get Ready, Taylor Swift is gonna
be on the Kelseys Podcast tomorrow Let's Go. Wait, wait,
that's a different podcast. Wednesday, Wednesday, Wednesday Wednesday, not Tuesday,
but Tuesday Wednesday, The in the Heights Podcast, New Heights,

(15:42):
New Heights, in the Heights, New Let's Go Podcast, Tom
Brady The Let's Go Podcast, and Jim Bray This Kelsey Brothers. Yeah, Okay,
I will say this. I really don't think we're gonna
get any thing. I just not not saying anything about

(16:03):
but we're gonna get we're gonna get interested. Boy, would
be something if they got engaged like on the podcast,
Like that'd be pretty cool. Like if Jason Kelsey's not
there and it's just Travis and Taylor and they get
engaged on the podcast. Okay, you think one of their
agents has said that, you know, if you got to
engage in the podcast, that would really be great social
media wise. He really, we don't the day. I don't
think at this point she's gotta be towards a billion,
if not over. I don't know how much he cares. Yeah,

(16:26):
but it better for him. Yeah, it's gonna be your husband. No,
he's doing okay. Yeah, I think he's been all right. No,
I'm just saying, but I meant publicity just trying to dinner. No,
I think it's a thing. They're good. I mean, I'm
surprised we're getting this. Let alone, whatever kind of announcement
comes out, she's not gonna marry a loser. I mean,

(16:49):
the podcast is still doing well, right, because this is
like this would be like stunt casting. Stunt podcast Is
that a thing? Stunt podcasting like stunt casting? But I
say stunt podcasting when hey, people don't listen to podcast anymore.
So we just bring stars on interesting. Yeah, or like
in the sitcoms when they would put a baby in, Oh,
let's have someone to have a baby. Let's do that.
That'll be get people to watch. Well, well I got

(17:10):
a new baby, got a new kid. Hey, that's great.
What's bigger here? Pre order Life of a Showgirl? Okay,
store dot Taylorswift dot com. So we got an album counting,
So it's gonna be oh, oh, maybe they're gonna debut
the album.

Speaker 4 (17:24):
Yeah, you didn't really, guys, you didn't really think she
was coming on because she likes him?

Speaker 1 (17:28):
Yeah? No, he Oh, so maybe she's gonna debut a
couple of songs on the podcast. You have to write
you have debut a song? I don't know. I mean,
you would have to. I mean. And then now now
I'm thinking back to the the teenage me, like when
I would know a song was gonna debut on the radio,
and I got my radio, I got record and play

(17:48):
pressed down. Ready, Oh, they're gonna play the song. Now
I'm gonna have it. Oh, I'm gonna have it. But
do I buy the vinyl? Do I buy the the
CD with poster?

Speaker 3 (17:57):
No?

Speaker 1 (17:57):
I think you try to tape the song for free. Okay,
that's what That's what I did, I said, I still
remember Jason's getting it off in Napsters.

Speaker 5 (18:03):
Right.

Speaker 1 (18:05):
Pre order Okay, that's literally what they're calling it, the
pre pre pre order, So you're pre ordering to have
the right to pre order the album. Thing with the
guy in the place, Like if you sign up to
pre pre pre order, pre pre order, pre pre order,
pre pre order, it means you sign up, okay, and
you get okayed, you can now pre order the album. Yeah,
but you can also pre order the cassette. See see

(18:28):
that's the thing, man, that and that takes me back man,
and and I remember, I vividly remember this when I
was a kid, Like that's how it was, right like
in the eighties, all the way back in the eighties,
but like because I had a boom box, and it
was one of those things where with a cassette in
the middle, right, that was always a big like you
had the boombox, you had the caseet in the middle,
and you could tape anything on the radio. And I remember,
like so many things that I looked musically that I

(18:50):
learned about for the first time because I heard a
good sign it like there was a station New York
that would do perfect album signs, right, hey coming up
perfect albums? Oh yeah, that was a big thing, like
a perfect Alble's side. I remember the first time, like
when I'm young and they go, hey, we got the
Who Who's Next? Side too, I'm like okay, and I
and I remember taping it and they play it all
the way through. I'm like, oh, man, I got the

(19:11):
whole side of this Who album. And then I realized,
you know, as I grew up how much I loved
that album. I'm like, that's probably one of the ten
best rock albums of all time. Who's Next? Like that's
got Baba O'reiley and Won't Get Fooled Again and getting
in tune and behind blue Eyes and going mobile and uh,
that was always one of my fanish. Man, that's a

(19:32):
great I'm getting into one of my favorite who saw
check out? My estimated way time to check out? Oh
you're align to check Wow, sixty eight minutes for you
to check out? It was just sixty nine minutes if
you would have looked down thirty seconds. So I remember
taping and having it and listening to it, like listening
to the Who album side. But I vividly remember when
David lee Roth left Van Halen right for the first time,

(19:55):
like Billy Martin managing the Yankees, and he left Van
Halen and he went and formed his own new band
and it was Billy Sheen was the bassist, and and
I forget who was he had a he had a
what's his name was a guitar. Stevie Vie was a guitarist. Yeah,
And he was debuting his album at a big party, uh.
And it was simulcast on the big rock station New York.

(20:16):
And I'm like, oh, this is great, this is great.
And he's debuting the album right. So the first song
they played was Yankee Rose, and I'm like, they played
it the beginning and then and the guy is interviewing
davidly Roth and members of the band and they're all
like in various states and whatever, and so he's talking
about it. He goes, yeah, he's a first single. Here's
Yankee Row. Yankee. So they played Yankee rosm like, oh, wow,
that's such a great song, Like, Wow, this album's gonna
completely kick ass. So then they would play the other songs.

(20:40):
But because David le Daily wrong, I remember him saying,
so I'm gonna talk over these songs, says you cats
and kiddies can't like just tape it listen to it
for free. So he would he would answer questions about
the songs and would talk over them, so like for
the first like if it's a four minute song, because
they played the entire album, and like if it's a
fourth song, like a four minute song, he would talk

(21:01):
over the first like two and a half minutes ago,
all right, here's the rest of the song. It was
like Damn Good, which the song about van Halen. He
had a couple of other songs out there, and it
was so maddening because I'm like, yeah, I'm gonna taping gout.
I'm gonna get the new David Lee Roth. I'm not
having to pay for it. And he just kept talking.
Hey man, he knew that he knew the gig. He
just kept doing it. I'm like, come on, man, But

(21:23):
I had yanked which Yankee Rose was the best song,
so I was I was okay with it because the
other songs were okay. But like Yankee Rose's David Rob
knew that Noah, oh yeah, he knew had the presence
of mind but if he got talking over the top
of it, We're gonna buy the full album because you
were excited about yan yek Ros and you and you
heard like some of the other songs is not bad.
I'm like, oh, okay, this is not bad. This is

(21:43):
not bad. Man. It wasn't. It wasn't van Halen. But
Yankee Rose is a great song. You have an agreement
with Steve Vie that he wouldn't talk over his song.
Where were what? Where? No where? Let me run about
of the side. We're gonna take a look. Ye was
a whoa? She's beautiful. The Tue Lunatics mean while in

(22:05):
my head, I'm going mob more man, you could get
me on. You got talking guitar will get me every
single time. Talking guitar, Yeah, undred percent. You can want
to do a little Franpton comes alive for me. I'm
talking about it, Yankee Rose. That's kind of getting too curious, George, Oh,

(22:33):
coming up curious, George reviews Taylor Swiftly. Well, George, what
did you think? Were you excited to hear it? But
what do you think about this song? I remember that
the music equivalent of letterbox you can get you can
do audio versions of it. That's curious George. Do you

(22:54):
think you whoa whoa monkey? Curious George, he's being the loose,
He's a national treasure. Hey, I got news for you.
Curious George is on the loops in every episode outside
He's not. That's why they called him curious George. Now,
did you've seen it? Twenty of days later? He's not
hanging home George. It would be a much different show
starting the end of the world. Hey, coming up next

(23:16):
on hanging at home George. George, did you just hit
at the couch all day and watch TV? How do
you feel that you did? You eat all of my snacks?
How do you feel? Are you full? You gonna throw up?
All right? Go to the bathroom. That would be curious George.

(23:40):
Curious George and the hanging home all day?

Speaker 4 (23:42):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (23:45):
Yes, defeated young Jason Smith. He's now living in a
cartoon world. What's going on in your head? We went
from we went from the End the Heights podcast of
the New Heights podcast. We You, We do, We Well.
I was along for the ride. Oh you're involved in
this too, Frost. No, as soon as you said Kelsey,

(24:06):
he was out. Oh that is true. He was out.
He tapped out. He said, that guy is a luser.
Yes or no? I remember that? Am I wrong? Do
we get a new Taylor Swift song on the podcast?
You have to at least get a snippet? All right?
All right? Does she talk over like David Lee Roth
or did she play the song? No, she'll give you one.
You get one, you get one? Okay, all right, I'm
with you. And look, it's like we used to do

(24:27):
with the stat tracker, way back before it became ubiquitous
to have live stats as part of a fantasy game.
Like everybody decided to go to the pay for model.
He said, well, what are people really coming for? They
want to watch their stats lot, So we give it
to you for a week. It was a kick ass
JavaScript and then what was it? And and I used
this in the pitch where we said, hey, here's a
revenue in a answer, it's like it's it's it's the

(24:48):
old drug deal thing. Now you get the first taste
for free. No, hang on, now why you want it? Now?
We know she plays guitar, what are the odds go? Yeah,
here's a new song. It's called my Favorite Martian whatever.
I don't know. It's all my favorite Martians. Oh that's great.
What is it? And you play it? And it's a
minute twenty seven guitar solo. I mean, not quite eruption,

(25:09):
but just Taylor Swift to a guitar. I'm gonna give
you the guitar solo of a minute twenty minut and
a half for free. That would be pretty funny. I
think I can get on board that. Hi, I'm Darth
Vader from the planet Vulcan Silence playing eruption on the
on the headset. It's funny you bring that up, though,
because I did have in my timeline a couple of

(25:29):
days ago, randomly from an appearance that Eddie van Halen
had done where he was given a speech, but he
had his guitar on his neckholder and he just started
playing eruption. He goes, and then I came up with this.
I'm not gonna talk in the interview. I'm just gonna
play the guitar. So you asked me a question I
don't want to answer. I'm just gonna play before or
after he let the minora. Oh, David Lee Roth lights

(25:50):
the minora, so do James conn Kirk Douglas and the
late Dinah Shora, Yeah, exit a about a Fresca exit.
Swallen down, Jason Smith, Mike Karmen, Now we talked about
quarterback situation a few minutes ago. And Dak Prescott ahead
of the game with the Cowboys and Rams this weekend,
you know, having fun with Stan Kronkey said Hey, yeah,
see you in the NFC Championship game. Hey, and I

(26:13):
love the Rams. I told you they might be my
trendy pick again this year for the Super Bowl or
the NFC Title Game. Still know Matthew Stafford practice today,
did not come back, still hurt. The Rams still say
he is on track for Week one, but the Rams
thought he was going to be able to back at
practice today. Did some work, but still not able to practice,

(26:36):
and I am still unconcerned. Look, the more time goes on,
you understand, this is the last year for Matthew Stafford
with the Rams. This is if they're not going to
go through this again. He's breaking down. They're trying to
get one more year out of him before they have
to move on. Right, it was a big fight to
get him to come back this year. They're done with
the Matthew Stafford ride. When it comes to wanting more money,

(26:59):
another year, edit the year contracts, and now they're done knowing. Okay,
he's getting to the point where we can't rely on
him physically to be able to be ready for the season.
So now it's like crap, we're just hoping to get
a season out of him. But I'll tell you what man,
I'm telling We talked about it last week. Sean McVay
does not fail in situations like this. He does not fail.
Jimmy Garoppolo will be just fine at quarterback for the Rams.

(27:22):
Now is it gonna be Matthew Stafford while he have
his end of game, middle of the end of season
uptick and play. Probably not. But he's gonna be good
enough though that really good weapons around him. Jimmy Garoppolo
has been to a Super Bowl, he has played pretty well.
They're not gonna ask him to throw the football forty
five times a game. Well, they didn't ask Stafford to
do that last year. Sean McVay is not going to

(27:44):
go into a season where, oh, if our quarterback gets hurt,
what are we gonna do. He's not Robert salah Ah.
You got Aaron Rodgers? Oh man? Oh, so now it's
Zach Wilson again, boy, you really should have done that differently.
I mean, really, Garoppolo. If it was another head coach
going in saying, hey, Garoppolo's are back of me, go,
I'm not sure. But Sean McVeigh has earned that trust
in that cache to say, if you think you can

(28:06):
make it work with Jimmy Garoppolo, then I believe he
can make Jimmy Garoppolo work in that system. Right, Scott
got to throw the football to has the DeVonta Adams connection.
You know how good Pooka Nakup is. You know how
good Kien Williams is, how good the offensive line is.
They still have younger players at wide receiver they're expecting
to take a step up, whether it's Whittington or someone
else pretty good at tight end. I think that Jimmy
Garoppolo will be fine enough going forward, however long he

(28:29):
has to play until Matthew Stafford is ready. You know,
I was always a Jimmy g believer. Now that clip
with Deva Jimmy truth, it's the idea that they they're
going to need to figure out if there were any
kind of differences or if that was just a heat
of the moment. Kind of thing, but they'll they'll get along.
DeVante Adams is a big addition. Pookin Nakua stay healthy,
two of them together. Riekavoc on defenses with Jimmy g

(28:52):
He's not gonna be expected to do a ton like
I'm saying, you just paid Kyen Williams, so now you're
gonna run him into the ground to earn every dollar
that you just paid him. Jimmy, Well, we still had
Blake Korum that he really didn't use it last year
waiting in the wings. So you get the one two
combination and that defense is for real. Do I think
the ceiling is as lowered a bit? Sure? Was I

(29:14):
concerned about Stafford coming into everything, absolutely right, because we
had a couple of years where his want to he
was starting to do a little bit of the Aaron Rodgers. Now,
you can be convinced when there's fifty million dollars on
the table to come back, but when we're talking about
a back issue, I know he wasn't going to play
any meaningful reps right. Sean McVay wasn't going to go

(29:36):
back the other way. He was the guy that led
you to the we're going to you know, utilize guys
as little as possible and make sure we're ready for
week one. But the longer he sits out, the more
concerning it is that this is a real issue as
opposed to and a disk issue and whatever, as opposed
to we're just putting him in bubble wrap. Right, there's
two very different things. Yeah, you want him to be

(29:58):
able if he was still getting all the reps and
he was still due, but they were holding you Okay,
they're just holding him back. But he threw his sixty
passes on Saturday, and then two days later he's like, yeah,
I was just kidding. You're not going to see him.
But you said the pandas were here that we're ready
to be on this play No, no, not yet exit
out about a Fresco exit Swollen down the Jason Smith

(30:18):
Show with my best friend Mike Carmen tim how to
find out what's trending in the wide world of sports
From someone who's been called the Davante Adams of Fox
Sports Radio because he also has a taco bell in
his house. It's Steve Disager.

Speaker 4 (30:30):
Oh, I thought it's because I'm constantly waiting for a
good throw.

Speaker 5 (30:36):
He's waiting for a good toss there Smith, very very
nice ry the shirt Cocktail LA. Dodgers are first in
the NOST just one game over the Padres San Francisco
a four to one winner at San Francis. San Diego
a four to one winner at San Francisco, while the
Angels beat the Dodgers seven to four. It was a
seven to nothing game after seven innings show hey Otani

(30:57):
with his forty second home run. Dodgers will play the
Padres each of the next two weekends.

Speaker 4 (31:02):
The LA lead in the division on July third was
nine games. Since then, the Dodger record twelve and nineteen.
In the late game, Razer leading seven to four over
the A's in the top of the ninth attendance in
West Sacramento seven thousand, seven hundred, Houston held on seven
to six over Boston.

Speaker 1 (31:21):
It was seven to two in the seventh.

Speaker 4 (31:23):
The lost to All Star Garrett Crochet, who was thirteen
and four this year. He gave up the first five
runs in four innings of work. Texas came back to
win in ten over Arizona seven to six. Saint Louis
with two runs in the bottom of the eighth edge
Colorado three to two. The Rockies have lost eighth straight
wins for Detroit and Kansas City. The Yankees hit four
solo homers, Twins only had three hits. Yankees beat Minnesota

(31:47):
six to two. Philadelphia got Kyle Schwarber's forty second home
run of the season in a four to one win
at Cincinnati, beating Andrew Abbott of the Reds, who had
been eight and two this year. The Phillies are first
in the NL, six games with the idle Mets, who've
lost seventh straight. Milwaukee won it's tenth in a row,
seven to one over Pittsburgh. The Brewers first in the

(32:07):
NL Central, six and a half games up on the Cubs.
Yes Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford misspractice again. He's been out
with a bad back, as yet to practice in camp.
The forty nine Ers say wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk might
return in mid October after last year's knee injuries. Eagles
Pro Bowl guard Landon Dickerson will have a procedure on
his knee. Was carted off at practice Sunday, still hopes

(32:29):
to play the opener. Dolphins running back Alexander Madison had
season ending next surgery after being hurt Sunday. Texas is
number one an AP's preseason college football poll, barely head
of number two Penn State. By the way, all twelve
teams from last year's playoff are ranked in this year's
AP preseason twenty five, even number sixteen SMU, which is
preseason ranked for the first time in forty years. And

(32:52):
there was one WNBA game tonight at Golden State. The
Volcries were winners seventy four fifty seven over a Connecticut
team that lost in Vegas last night. Lost in the
Bay Area tonight the Connecticut Sun five and twenty six.
And by the way, there was an Indiana against Chicago
game on Saturday.

Speaker 1 (33:10):
Chicago lost again.

Speaker 4 (33:11):
They're eight and twenty three, but Angel Reese is still out.
She's missed eight of their last ten games with a
bad back. Caitlin Clark of the Fever has missed ten
straight games, and today's update is that she still hasn't
practiced due to the groin entry. Back to you, Yeah,
there is no timetable for her return to the cordon WNBA.

Speaker 1 (33:28):
Thank you, Steve O. Jason Smith, Mcarman Live from the
Fox Sports Radio studios coming up next after week one
of the preseason. There's a team I'm in on solely
because I believe in their head coach. Who is it?
The Ants? It's not Cleveland. The Ant is gonna surprise you,
or it might not. That's next Fox.

Speaker 2 (33:49):

Let's go. Let's get them going one, two, three, four,
get those arms pumping super onesie mo night, no days off. Remember,
just think about how good it's gonna look in bikini season.
Why from the ballpit at McDonald's, It's Jason Smith, Fox
Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with my best friend

(34:20):
Mike Harmon. I know I'm falling for the banana and
the tailpipe again. I know I'm falling, but I feel
like it's like no, But this time it's different, Baby,
this time it'll be different. Is this time it counts.
I'm not gonna cheat on you anymore? This time it's different.
I got that all out of my system, Baby, I

(34:40):
love you. The Jets win this weekend, and they absolutely
throttle the Packers. First team, second team third team and
Justin Field's touchdown run plays one series for the Jets,
three out of four passes, and I look, Justin Fields,
looks fine. Okay, it's four plays. He's gonna throw every

(35:02):
ball between the numbers. Okay, I would even if wide
receiver goes outside the numbers, don't even cover him because
he can't complete it. I can't wait to see that
shot chart not happening. Yeah before I remember that. Yeah,
nothing outside the numbers and everything was in the middlefield.
The Jets are gonna have three running backs, three guys
with three hundred or more rush attempts. They're gonna play
four tight ends catching all the passes. Right Stone Smart's

(35:24):
gonna catch touchdowns. But I will say this, I am
in on the Jets because of Aaron Glenn right. Like
I knew coming into the season, I thought he was
the right guy. He was the right hire. He wanted
to be there. He's a Bill Parcell's disciple. He's someone
that is going to build a culture. And okay, and
what and seeing Game one where hey, the offense struggled

(35:47):
in camp, the defense struggle a little bit, but seeing
them come out, they showed up to play that game
at their top level capacity, first stringers, second stringers, third stringers,
and they blew the doors off of the packers. The
touchdown the Stone Smart in the third quarter is about
as perfect of a screen pass as you're gonna run.
And this is run with second and third teamers. Right,

(36:08):
everybody is bought in, Right, Justin Field's touchdown run. Okay,
his touchdown run. This is how guys are bought in.
Isaiah Davis is gonna be the third running back on
the team, or maybe the second if they wind up
trading Presall at some point, because Brayln Allen is that good.
He's gonna be the next Eric Henry. But on that
touchdown run, watch a play. He's in the flat looking
for a pass and the linebacker he's behind the linebacker. Now,

(36:30):
Justin Fields is running and probably gonna get a first up,
but we'll get tackled around the ten yard line. Now,
if Isaiah Davis decides to stop seize because he sees
Justin Field's running and blocks the linebacker, well guess what
the linebacker is gonna turn see Justin Fields and tackle
him at the ten yard line. But what Isaiah Davis
does is he keeps going out with his arm up

(36:50):
like he's gonna get the pass and draws the linebacker
with him and Justin Fields is able to get into
the end zone. Like that's such a great presence of
mind play. And that tells me that what Aaron Glenn
is doing is working everything he's got because the Jets
are they're all bought in, man, they're everything he is
selling is there. Again, He's exactly what they need. He's

(37:11):
a guy that wanted the job, that is setting a culture.
And yeah, are the wins and losses this year? No,
I'm not. I'm hoping they're competitive and I think in
the best case scenario they can be a five hundred
is team because the defense is pretty good. Jermain Johnson
just got activated today. But overall, I got a feeling
that at this time next year, we're gonna be telling
I need Maybe a little bit earlier, but in the

(37:32):
offseason of next year, we're gonna be saying, hey, he's
really building something there because he watched we watched him
do it with you know, under Dan Campbell. He knows
how to do. He knows how to build a great
defense when all the guys are hurt. So I had
this time next year, we're gonna be saying, hey, he
really is building something there with the Jets, because this
is your get by year, saying how do we make
it work? You know, we have some band aid situations,

(37:53):
just like Harball last year at the Charges, where it was, hey,
I'm putting my system in and we're gonna make it
work with some guys. Hey they squeaked out a playoff appearance,
and now, hey, this could be a heavy hitter year
for the Chargers. We're gonna be saying that for Aaron
Glenn next year because so far, again I realize I'm
buying in, but I feel what he is doing is
exactly what they need. He's setting a culture where I'm

(38:13):
not gonna have to worry about the team coming in
flat four times out of five weeks, which is what
happened under Robert solid another head coaches. Yeah, but to
be fair, I mean outside of the Adam Gase era,
I'll give you a reprieve there. We've done this every year, man,
where it's been building and buying in. You get suckered
in because this is about the time the Mets starts sucking. Yeah. Yeah,

(38:35):
Yet all three of them have been here and ty
shirt and justin it's been the same thing.

Speaker 4 (38:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (38:42):
Quit. So all of a sudden, all hope and everything
in your soul is put on the Jets season and saying,
all right, this is how I'm gonna get to it,
and then within about a month it's the can they
get me to the Knicks? Well, that's the thing. It's
Mets to the Jets and the Jets to the Knicks,
Like that's what the years for me. Now. Of course,
now it's it's an even shorter window because with the Knicks,

(39:04):
what they're the second favorite in the Eastern Conference. But
now you only got to get to the end of October.
It's not like the second week in November. Now the
season starts so early, so it's like not even then.
I mean, that's that's a long time. I don't I
don't know that to getting that far. But man, the
fact that areas like that, just gotta be three and five,
that's all I need. I'm not saying I'm not saying
you gotta be six and one, three and five. Hey, man, Hope,

(39:28):
it's a dangerous thing. We talk about it all the time.
It's the the shawshank. Two sides of the coin, it's
either the best of the things that keep you going
or it'll drive you mad because hope never comes. You know,
you know, if tomorrow never comes, go steal from Garth
Brooks for a second. Aaron, he's the guys. The guy
that was there is a player, and he watched the
chaos and he decided to come back for it. Now,

(39:50):
part of it is it's an opportunity to get at
a head job. So yes, you you're gonna take that
shot when it comes. Ben Johnson waited around. Now he's
got it Williams, and he's tasked with I can be
the fixer. I can be that guy and make the
Bears a prominent organization once again and pulling the strings
to do that. But for Aaron, Glenn gets a shot

(40:11):
to take the jets where you've got something in the guts, right,
you have Hall, you have Sauce, you have Garrett will
So you have a couple of guys that you say, okay,
I've got building blocks justin fields serviceable to try to
at least stabilize things on a defense that should be
pretty good. They were supposed to be pretty good last
year and then they kind of quit. Yeah, that's That's

(40:35):
why I feel that they have the right now. But
that's the beauty of all of those issues. But with
a new coach, you're going to buy in. Last year,
they knew that guy was good. Where they bought into Solomon,
where you always years were you always? I don't know,
we were yelling super Bowls, you had shirts made. I
know you were, and clearly I was wrong, but I
thought again, I know, but Aaron Glenn is the guy.

(40:57):
This time. It's different telling. Yeah, an NFL fan base
needs to chill out next
