just search Jason Smith and Mike Harmon wherever you get
your podcasts. You'll find today's show and a best of
version posted right after we get off the air. And
once you get there, rip off the knop, leave it
right there right now. Time getting a little tight nuggets
on the thunder we just watched. There was a twenty
(01:11):
minute break where they were reviewing fouls on Nikola jokicch
I don't mean like flop fouls or anything like it.
So it's been a minute, it's been a monent.
Speaker 3 (01:19):
They were trying to figure out what the hell happened?
All right, So he got a breakaway coming down the
court and he does a I don't know, half ass
attempt to strip the ball from chet Holmger and gets
him on the wrist. Homer goes up for the dunk,
grabs onto the rim, the ball carrabs out of bounds,
and everybody's looking at each other going, what are we doing?
(01:40):
So since we don't have sound, we're watching it in
the studio, are they going to review, Like, can you
review that it was a foul?
Speaker 1 (01:47):
Because if so, he's.
Speaker 3 (01:48):
Gone And if you had that's the one you're gonna
get fouled out on playing with five, just an innocent
little ass, see if I could reach in and get
the ball, And they don't, Wow, what a terrible foul
to go out on. Instead, balls out of bounce to
the nuggets and play resumes. But it's that moment where
everybody's looking around going, that's how you're gonna fall out. Really,
(02:10):
that's gonna be it uh, and instead, here we go.
Every time they get back to within eight points, they
commit a terrible turnover or a silly foul uh, and
then the spurtability of the Thunder is on display again.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
It is a one eight, one oh one lead right
now with about five and a half to go in
the fourth quarter. A thirty and twenty game already for
Nikola jokicch oh okay Oh. By the way, also six
assists as well high assists man for the Nuggets tonight
for the Thunder. Look, I know your your guy, Chet,
not Chet's big night. SGA's got twenty four. Alex Caruso
(02:49):
with twenty twenty ninety in twenty minutes for the Thunder. Caruso,
I think the Lakers say, hey, hey, Alex, want to
come back next year, want to come back? We'll come back.
Speaker 4 (03:01):
Does he play center?
Speaker 1 (03:02):
You come back? He can just just make just make
him taller next year. You'll be fine to stretch him. Yeah, yeah,
just like Bobby Brady, because you just stretch them. He
just holds on the rack and stretches, and he grows
and grows a half an inch every time. Now you're
getting the rack introduced. That's great.
Speaker 3 (03:20):
Uh so taking all those historical tours really rub it
off on you.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
Huh, we'll have more on this well yeah, yeah, the
historical tour of the Brady Bunch House. One can do
that on one.
Speaker 4 (03:29):
Now.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
Well yet it's is it still up or didn't it
just get sold again?
Speaker 5 (03:33):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (03:33):
But but those guys, that's how they make their money. Okay,
So whoever buys it always has the well we're not
really gonna have people live here.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
Yeah, ok so they forever, So they're good.
Speaker 3 (03:44):
They allow Barry Williams and Christopher and I continue to say, Hey,
let's play scrabble in the Brady House.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
Yeah, unlike the woman who owns the Breaking Badhouse and
just curses at people, and you know she's a hateful person.
Oh boy.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
Oh then at some point either lean into it or
you move. Ah, take the profit out of your house
and go away.
Speaker 1 (04:05):
Yeah yeah, yeah, I know that's what she likes to shave.
If you drive by the house, take a picture and
she's cursing you, and.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
Gods are and you can really market the hell out
of Hey it's next to the Breaking Bad House and
get yourself a premium or hey, you.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
Want to come take a picture it's a dollar and
you make money. It's all you make money. You'll make
five hundred dollars in there with a polaroid. Let's go.
I'm telling you. When we went there a couple of
years ago, we drove by the house, we were warned
because we knew we were warns like the old man
warning people in the in the horror movie. Hey, when
you go by, don't get too club. The woman's just
gonna yell at you. She's gonna she's gonna yell at
you for coming to take a picture. I was like, okay, really,
(04:38):
it's got a funny fair enough. We pulled up across
across the street, so we stayed across the street and
she just she's she's she's m F and us. Oh
my god, whoa, my god?
Speaker 2 (04:48):
What is Oh my god?
Speaker 1 (04:49):
What take the Come on fast, take the picture, fast,
let's go, let's go. What do you think you're doing?
Why would you do something like this? Tay or take bed?
Why are you doing?
Speaker 6 (04:58):
All right?
Speaker 1 (04:59):
Thanks? All right again? Either lean into it or leave right.
I'm the danger. Yeah, I'm the danger. I'm the danger. Now.
The game of the Night, of course, the New York Knicks.
I really thought you were going to go to a
baseball game. No, no, no, no, that would have been
something that's a winning five to one in the eighth
f lindor another home run. But the Knicks win tonight.
(05:21):
They beat the Celtics, and now the Eastern Conference playoffs
have been set upside down where the overwhelming favorites are
in the position of must wins in game two or
risk the series being over. This is how fast the
NBA playoffs turned from the Cleveland Celtics FATA compley Eastern
(05:43):
Conference finals. Now Pacers win game one, the Knicks win
game one, and I'll tell you what and this is,
you know a big thing about this Knicks game, right,
A lot of different angles on this. Well, we'll get
to the Celtics in a second, because boy, the Celtics
really they're they're the ones that they lost it more
than Nicks one. There's also a big angle of this.
We haven't even broush the Knicks win this game. Yeah,
(06:04):
with Jalen Brunson not being Jalen Brunson. Down the stretch,
he hits a couple of he hits some big shots
in the fourth quarter, absolutely, but end of the fourth
quarter he misses an easy layup that would have won
the game that he's made a hundred times. It just
kind of rims out and then he doesn't doesn't dent
the scoreboard in overtime, but instead it's Anobi with a
(06:25):
big three Michel Bridges with a big three Bridges on
the big defensive play at then when he rips the
ball out of Jalen Brown's arms, would even let him
get a three point shot up. There is no more
New York way to win a game than ripping the
ball out of the other guy's arms and saying we won.
You kick dirt in his face too, and left with
his girlfriend as what, I didn't you right there? Give
me that ball? I see you later. They won without
(06:50):
Jalen Brunson being Jalen Brunson right because what what did
I tell you? Was my whole big fear with the Knicks,
and it's but you live and die with it is
that the Knicks offense at the end of games comes
down to Brunson in an ISO situation, they spread the
floor and whatever happens happens. I don't think Tips has
drawn up a play at the end of regulation in
two years, because okay, Jalen whatever you see. I mean,
(07:10):
he's got a great basketball IQ is probably one of
the top three four smartest players in the league. And
but the but the offense kind of bogs down, and
are you gonna go to kat? Are you gonna go?
I mean, I don't nob had a big day, but
it's always and a couple of turnovers that Jalen bruns had,
he didn't play great down the stretch. All of this,
the Knicks were down by twenty in the third quarter.
(07:31):
He didn't play great down the stretch and the Knicks
still win Game one. Over that they still win Game one,
and Jalen Brunson has a game down the.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
Stretch in overtime three of five in the fourth quarter. Uh,
you had a bunch of those possessions that stall out.
Oh wait, there's two seconds on the shot clock. Let's
get up to move it. I had a lot of
standing around and that's something that, uh, that's a hard
habit to break as we watch with the Knicks throughout
the year, that they're just waiting for him to do
(08:02):
something superhuman. And a couple of times you had the
big plays when when Cat got him then give and
go like there it is.
Speaker 1 (08:09):
That's the game. I said to you. As soon as
you got the ball, I yelled game. I yelled game,
and then you yelled, that's the series. That's really God,
that's it, Tune. I'm telling you, I really you were
so angry when he missed that shot. I said, that's
gonna go down in the annals of Nick's history as
one of the worst misses because now the Celtics are
gonna sweep the series, and it would be oh with
the series have gone different, had the Knicks just had
(08:31):
this shot just gone in, this little little layup, this
little running one hand or from ten feet away gone,
that Brunson's hit in his sleep. Had that gone, maybe
everything would have been different.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
Good.
Speaker 3 (08:44):
I'm seeing it because I know this off the back.
I'm seeing it from the positive and negative. You want
to talking about your sliding doors, the classic Winneth Paltrow movie.
Speaker 1 (08:52):
It comes to life if.
Speaker 3 (08:54):
It goes this way. Look at the Knicks. It goes
this way. We're gonna get swept.
Speaker 4 (09:00):
Quisition last week about Jaylen Bronson say, I tried to
warn you he stinks.
Speaker 1 (09:04):
What do you want, Frostburg? We won? We won tonight.
It's okay. The Celtics loss. Okay, yeah, the Knicks one
and was not good if a team. He wasn't good
in overtime. He wasn't got to be your best. Okay,
but it doesn't matter because other guys were good. So
it's okay. He forgot his cape tit. That's all right.
We warned you you did, Michale Bridges. I'm alright with
with the theft of all thefts.
Speaker 3 (09:26):
I mean, when you look up stealing that comes to sports,
and then there is it is no video. You alternate, well,
I mean you've told the tale. So at this point,
no video. It's as far as you know, no video.
As far as we go, we already decided.
Speaker 1 (09:44):
Now that would be fun.
Speaker 3 (09:46):
We go visit Jason and he's one of the first
guys on Alcatraz.
Speaker 1 (09:49):
Lawyer, this is all legend. Thank you Mary, Thank you Mary. No,
he's on record. Yeah no, I mean this is opening allegedly.
I always say alleged. Now, the big thing from this game, right,
I just want to keep watching that replay, that low
angle replay, Bridges ripping the ball out of Brown's arms.
It was so great. Yes, the Celtics lost this game.
(10:11):
This was an epic fail. By Joe Mizula and an
epic fail by the Celtics who failed to adjust to
the game. Right. The Celtics were fifteen out of sixty
from three point range. Right now. They like to shoot
a lot of threes. Sure, get it. They're gonna shoot
forty five or fifty threes in a game, right, But
you have to understand, Okay, this is not our night
for threes. Doesn't mean you have to completely go in
(10:32):
the opposite direction. Say no threes. Okay, no threes, no there.
But when you're struggling to score, how about a timeout
or let set up a couple of plays and let's
get to the rim. Because inside the arc, the Celtics
were like sixty percent from the floor. So how about
for a couple of minutes, let's get Let's get a
Jason Tatum to the rim because he has the advantage
(10:54):
with the basketball in his hand. Let's make sure we
move the ball a bit. And yes, you're missing Porzingis,
and that was a big deal tonight, but it happened.
You know, a big deal. You're missing Porzingis. But still
you're able to get the ball to the rack and score.
When you get it down low. Your offensive rebounds are
really good. And instead of off getting the offensive rebounds
because when the when you miss threes, they bounce out further, uh,
(11:15):
instead of getting into a little bit more of a
of a more manageable offensive set. It's just they were
just happy with taking threes. And it was a game
where like you kind of felt like watching you wanted
to yell on the screen and go, wake up, what
do you gotta do something different? Because it was they
were stubborn that we're just gonna keep taking these threes
because eventually they're gonna fall. And it got so bad
(11:37):
that I wondered what the Knicks are all defending. They're
defending the perimeter really really well. You're not getting anything off.
You have a you could just take a one. You
could just take a quick shot fake and you'll be
able to get to the rack and if at the
very least get to the free throw line, because you
were getting to the free throw line the entire game.
And yet they still settled for threes and nothing worse
(11:57):
than down three with sixteen seconds selecting the ball, I said, Okay,
this is gonna be a long last sixteen seconds. Celtics
will go in for a for two. The Knicks have
been missing free throws all night. They'll go in for
a quick two. Put the Knicks of the free throw line.
This game is gonna be a few more possessions. But no,
they decided we're gonna take it all the way down
to the end and settle for a three. And what happens.
They They take a wild three with four seconds left,
(12:21):
but the Knicks fouled on the floor before it, and
then with three seconds left, Jalen Brown gets the ball
ripped out of his arms by mckel bridge is like,
what were the Celtics doing? This is such an epic
fail by Joe Mizzula, and the Celtics are just continuing
to beat their heads against the wall, going eventually, We're
gonna beat our head against a wall, the wall. The
head's gonna break through the wall. No, the wall is
kind of concrete. No, I'm gonna keep doing it, gonna
(12:42):
give I watch the Last of Us and those those
zombies breakthrough. No matter what they got, those zombies break through.
We're like all the ones in the Last of Us.
We're gonna break their No, it's not gonna happen. And
so the Celtics blew this game because they because Missoula
stopped coaching and and the Celtics offense stagnated and they
kept settling for threes, and I was like, good, this
(13:03):
is awesome, this is fantastic. They could have won this game.
So Easis game was such a fail.
Speaker 3 (13:07):
By this TI, I'm gonna turn my computer towards you
so you can see the visual representation of the fourth
quarter shots of the Boston Celtics. Two of four of
anything in the lanes, a miss just outside the free
throw line, and then you got a number of really
bad two point shots just inside the arc, virtually all misses,
and then the rest are three point shots. Like, you
(13:30):
have every opportunity to grind this game out. You're up
twenty with five forty seven left in the third and
then the fourth quarter, there's absolutely no adjustment your depth.
I know you're missing poor zingis okay, So you're missing
a guy that can stretch, stretch the big men and
take them out. Well, they're living on the perimeter anyway,
(13:50):
so it doesn't matter. So all those cuts, all those oportunities,
you have nineteen offensive rebounds, you can't get more putbacks. Yeah,
it's gotta go get triggered back out another three, let's
throw it back like just amazing and all that to say,
the Knicks also missed fourteen free throws.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
So they gave you every opportunity fourteen or forty. It's
felt like forty, but it was only fourteen.
Speaker 3 (14:16):
Watching that unfold, like every opportunity they they were giving
you the game back, like every bad three point shot
in possession that you allowed them to get closer. They
missed enough free throws to where they shouldn't have been
able to overcome that lead, yet they did.
Speaker 1 (14:32):
I really an amazing night for the Knicks. But wow,
did the Celtics blow this? Yes, they absolutely blew this
one hundred and fifty percent exit out about a Fresco
exit swollen dome. Jason Smith Mike Harmon live from the
Fox Sports Radio studios. Things really close now in Oklahoma City.
It's the Thunder trying to hold on. They lead the
Nuggets one fifteen, one fourteen with forty five seconds left

Speaker 1 (16:46):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon. Okay, so when I said earlier that
you know, firing like them alone, you know David Adelman
coming in coach, it's not as big a did well well,
maybe it is is uh. Denver had pulled within a
point of Oklahoma City, had a chance take a shot
(17:09):
to take the lead. They couldn't corral a rebound. Oklahoma
City hits a couple of free throws. Jokich's fouled. He
hits a couple of free throws it to one point lead,
and somehow the thunder catch the Nuggets sleeping on the
inbound and not only do they make a get a
(17:30):
pass to a player who was wide open. It's Gilgus Alexander. Yeah,
Jokich is off the court, like, what the hell is
going on here?
Speaker 3 (17:38):
No timeout, So Caruso is able to get into SGA,
who looks around and has no defender anywhere in his
path I mean dunks.
Speaker 1 (17:47):
They're inbounding the ball around mid court and somehow SGA
takes off for the hoop. Nobody there, and like, I'm
sure he was surpressed, going okay, well, I'm just gonna
go in for a dunk here. So he goes in
for a dunk, makes it three point game again, and
then a couple of free throws by the Nuggets, so
it's still a one point game right now. Oklahoma City
(18:07):
whit the ball. They will be shooting free throws. But wow,
you come out of a timeout and you not only
you allow somebody to get open, but the guy who's
the MVP of the bleep in league is able to hey,
path it to me. They're not covering me. Wow. Really
an amazing thing.
Speaker 3 (18:21):
They spread the court out really well and then off
of just one quick jab move from SGA, he gets
the step on his defender brawn trying to cover up
and go straight in for the dunk.
Speaker 1 (18:34):
Now we could wind up seeing some overtime action because
chet your guy, why guy? Chet? Holmgren misses both free throws,
So the Nuggets get the ball with about ten seconds
left and a chance to potentially win the game, and wow,
Aaron Gordon.
Speaker 7 (18:52):
Aaron Gordon hits a three and the Nuggets win it
one twenty one to one. Nuh my, wow, check grin
your guy, it's your fault.
Speaker 1 (19:06):
Harmon cheded Holmgren at the free throw line and the
thunder with a one point lead, with a chance to
at least make it a Hey, you gotta hit a
three or the game is over. He misses both free throws.
Westbrook gets the ball out on the break. It looks
like he's gonna break to the basket. He gets just
(19:27):
inside the three point line. Aaron Gordon is down on
the wing a great pass, he is wide open in transition.
He buries the three, and Oklahoma City puts up a
panic shot from three quarters court when they still had
like two seconds left on the clock, and they wind
up missing, of course, and the Nuggets take game one,
(19:48):
one twenty one to one. Nineteen Nuggets with the huge w.
Speaker 3 (19:54):
This is just like the earlier game, a massive lead
squandered because this guy out to twenty. If I'm not
a second, it was either eighteen or twenty at its worst,
and the thunder looked like they were going in for
a laugher. And then chip away at the stone fourth quarter,
lid on the rim, some bad decision making and possessions
(20:15):
and bit by bit, Aaron Gordon finishes the twenty two
on the night fourteen rebounds and talk about the heroics
of Nikola Jokic. Yeah, he should have been fouled out
on that half assed reach in on Chet, but like anything,
if it's not called, it's not a foul. No, And
then you get this two free throw miss by Chet
(20:36):
Holmgren setting up Russell Westbrook.
Speaker 1 (20:38):
Who's there again, I'm telling you, man, you know, look
to talk about this play that just happened. Yes, Aaron
Gordon hits the three, and he had a couple of
big threes in this game. It's a great three, right,
he sets up, he sets up along three. You don't
need a three, but he had setting up three. M
It's kind of the redemption of Russell Westbrook is what
(20:58):
we've been seeing so far this season from him. He
gets the ball in a situation in which can tend
itself to be pen especially with Russell Westbrook. Right the
you know, the rebound is out, and he gets the
ball just inside of mid court, and there's a couple
of things he can do. He can try to get
to the rim, he can make space for a shot,
(21:19):
he can look for a pass, he can do he
can do all three of those things. And when you
Russell west be thinking, well, whatever he choose is gonna
be wrong. H Westbrook has great vision. He could have
stopped him, taken a shot and nobody would have been upset,
right because, okay, with a couple of seconds left, But
instead he takes the extra couple of dribbles, cuts back
and hits Gordon far across the floor. He's a better
(21:40):
three point shooter. He had hit big threes. Westbrook makes
the right play and it's now a one nothing lead
for the Nuggets in the game where they they were
down the entire game. They were down the entire game,
and Jokic is flopping and complaining at calls, and the
Thunder keep making big shots and big plays and they
catch the Nuggets asleep. They hit free and they and
(22:01):
they hit their free throws, and still the Nuggets wind
up coming out of here with a win, and suddenly
the three best teams in the NBA Playoffs are all
down one zip in the second round. I love basketball,
just crazy love basketball. But both games tonight just absolutely insane.
Where is if you were watching these games? Obviously we're
(22:22):
in the studio and you know, talking sports kind of
what we do and love talking with it. Wherever you're listening,
however you're listening to the show tonight, thank you. But
if you're a casual observer, you're like, that's twenty point game.
I'm done, right, And you went and found whatever your
Monday night other viewing experiences were gonna be. And you
missed thrillers, right, You missed the improbable sequences. Go back
(22:46):
to your you know early game that seems like a
lifetime ago. Is that what we just watched here with
the thunder and the lead and Alex Cruzo. We talked
about him hitting big shot after big shot and then
down the stretch just chipping away to this ultimate possession.
That ball, second free throw rolled.
Speaker 3 (23:06):
Off the rim, one of those slow roll off the
lip and down it came to the court and like
all right, here we go, fast break play, let's go
get it out to Westbrook, and he's running up the
court and once again, you know, he's a guy that's
enjoying it.
Speaker 1 (23:21):
Right.
Speaker 3 (23:21):
He had his great quote over the weekend of loving
to be a force of nature and being chaos, which
is good or bad depending on the time. Like he
went into the full you know, recognizing what he is
in the moment. But for Gordon to have the ability
to pause and hit a big shot like that, I mean,
(23:41):
one of the he's an unsung hero in like outside
of Denver, like he's he's a guy. Oh yeah, right,
he's one of those. All right, he's a good player.
But then you see moments like this where it's it's
just that calm for a guy that you would expect
to be playing more in the low post to be
able to step back as he did, and he hit
(24:02):
a couple of big shots here in the fourth, finishing
with twenty two. But yeah, improbability man all three teams.
Cleveland's obviously, and the worst of it with the injuries
they've got to deal with coming into Game two. But
if you're the Thunder, if you're the Celtics, you're looking
around the locker room, going, how the hell will we
just do that?
Speaker 1 (24:20):
It is? It is all of a sudden, everything we
knew is out the window. I love I love sports.
That's why everything we knew Because what if I said
for the longest time, if we're not talking about NBA Finals,
that's the thunder against either the Cavaliers or the Celtics.
Something's wrong. And now all of a sudden, three teams
face with must wins in Game two, or it could
wind up going out the window for them. Hey, sometimes
you need to get rid of a coach to find
(24:42):
your spark. Jason. We'll get to the coaching part of
it in a few minutes, but just real quick on
Russell west before you get to a big question starting
to come up.
Speaker 4 (24:49):
Here, and real quick we went deprived of the Russell Westbrook
moment though, and giving up and passing the ball, Well, deprived.
Speaker 1 (24:56):
Of all of the Russell Westbrook.
Speaker 3 (24:57):
Yeah, and he made the smart basketball I would yeah,
because he had the ball.
Speaker 4 (25:01):
He's got to shoot that. No, got to live and
die by the Tell me that's way more exciting.
Speaker 1 (25:12):
Oh, it would have been more exciting, and he could
have gotten to the hoop and at least got into
the free throw line. He had, but he had a
couple of defenders in front of him and chet was
back on defense. So I think if not stop, if
Westbrook tries to take it to the rim, he winds
up getting to the free throw line. That's probably the
best case scenario with about three or four seconds left
in the game. That's probably what winds up happening. But
(25:32):
he fine, he makes the right play. With Russell Westbrook's
a former MVP for a second, that's man. I feel
like this whole season with him and the Nuggets and
how they've played and how he has played, it's like
the redemption of Russell Westbrook, if you know, when he
is now with with a guy comfortable with his role,
Like I wasn't comfortable coming off the bench with the Lakers.
It wasn't a great fit. Now this is a much
better fit in Denver, and he is playing really good basketball.
(25:56):
He makes a great decision, you know, being able to
find him across the court because he knew I take
these couple of steps towards the rack that's gonna that
draws che Che him come back so that it's more wide.
He could have just thrown it right across the court
and check would have been in Aaron Gordon's face. But
he takes those couple of dribbles, makes it look like
I'm gonna go to the I'm go to the net.
So both defenders collapse and Gordon standard like, hey, I'm
(26:18):
wide open. Now. Chet does a great job. Chech's, you know,
stopping and getting at least a hand in the air,
but Gordon's got a wide open three. I mean, that's
such a great play by Russell Westbrook. I mean, it's
the redemption of Russell Westbrook.
Speaker 3 (26:30):
Thirty minutes played to night, eighteen points, seven to thirteen
from the field, struggled from the ark one of five
and then three of five from from the free throw line,
but a plus minus of four including that big game
winner right there to assists on the night, played with
five files, played smart basketball. And it's funny because he's
(26:51):
the like we talked about with James Harden and did
coming into the weekend and we talk about all these
different storylines. It's the history and what you shown us
and just waiting for the other shoe, right, waiting for
something else to happen, and for Russell Westbrook here we
saw all the things that we've loved about his competitiveness
(27:12):
and playmaking ability on display here, and for the positive,
because we've certainly seen the decisions the other way and
and erratic basketball here. Game on the line, gets the
ball forwarded out to him after the rebound, gets it
about half court, looks up ahead, sees the defenders, and
(27:32):
makes the decision to get the ball to Gordon and
Chat even with those big long outstretched arm can't get there.
Speaker 1 (27:38):
I mean, phenomenal decision by him. I mean, really, it's
the redemption of Russell Westbrook. Who knew the shot of
the of Russell Westbrook. Yeah, well, okay, if I thought
he had a clear shot, I would agree with you.
But he wasn't gonna get one. That was the decision
he was looking for.
Speaker 3 (27:57):
It was I'm going to force this, maybe I get
it and it's a tangular play.
Speaker 1 (28:00):
Who or we? You know, we lose. Let's take a
listen to how it sounded. Chet missing both free throws
and the Nuggets winding up with the w.
Speaker 6 (28:10):
Second free throw home groun you missed it again, rebound
down to Christian Brown. You got a hurry eight seven
seconds front court over to Westbrook cliff Side Gordon for
the win. Yeah, two point eight seconds left. Coming back
the other way, Williams from half court baked it no
good at the horn, and the Denver Nuggets shock the
(28:31):
Oklahoma City Thunder in Game number one final Tonight one
twenty one to one.
Speaker 1 (28:38):
Nineteen Nuggets Radio Network. On the call, I mean, look
a knight. That had a bunch of different themes that
are continuing. We talk about the teams winning on the
road in game one, teams missing free throws, the Nicks
missing all the free throws. Chet your guy, your guy
missing both free throws at the end that could have
made it at least hey make one, all right, where
(29:01):
we're we're finding some we can it's either win or
lose if they make a shot or maybe they go
to but he misses both.
Speaker 3 (29:07):
But that second one, it's the I don't know how
that ball doesn't go down the hoop, but it rolls
off the lip and Brown is shocked that it comes
to him because he lets it go.
Speaker 1 (29:17):
It gets all the way to the court.
Speaker 3 (29:19):
Yeah, and he's looking around like, wait, what look what
I got ye, And then it's a quick outlet to
Westbrook And.
Speaker 1 (29:25):
Now the rest is history. But wow, what an insane ending.
But is chet is a seventy throw shoot? But we
keep going back to it.
Speaker 3 (29:33):
We were actually talking about it before the show because
you were lamenting your nicks and their ineffectiveness at the
line earlier tonight. And it's something we've been talking about
all down the stretch of the regular season and certainly
through the first round of the playoffs. The woeful free
throw shooting on display time and time again, when we're
talking double digit misses for teams that leave the door
(29:55):
open for, you know, to snatch a loss from what
seems victory.
Speaker 1 (30:01):
He's a seventy five percent free throw shooter. But playoffs,
certain teams raised in the moment. And this is a
Nuggets team that had won a championship just a couple
of years ago. They handled the end and figured they
know the game is forty eight minutes, not forty seven
to thirty forty seven, forty five forty eight minutes. That's
(30:21):
exactly what happened. Time now to find out what's trending
in the wide world of sports from a guy who's
been called the Aaron Gordon of Fox Sports Radio, where's
that headband around all the time? It's Steve de Seger
Commissioner Gordon.
Speaker 5 (30:34):
Maybe I don't think this guy is called it's the
same one who had the buzzer beating dunk last round
against the Clippers, and the final seconds he had the
game winning three pointer at Oklahoma City to win one
twenty one one nineteen. And about Russell Westbrook, keep in
mind that with thirty seconds left in this game, nikola Jokich,
(30:54):
who had forty points in the contest at the time,
passed to Westbrook in the corner down by one, and
Westbrook missed the shot, but they got bailed out with
ten seconds left when Holmgren missed the two free throws.
Gordon hits the three. Denver Is up one game to
none in this second round, best of seven. Nikola Jokic
(31:15):
finished with forty two points twenty two rebounds, Gordon with
twenty two points fourteen boards. The New York next earlier
were down twenty mid third quarter, but still won their
second round opener in overtime at Boston one eight one
oh five Ncoal Bridges with a steal at the end.
He was three of thirteen shooting from the floor, but
had seven assists and one turnover as well twenty nine
(31:37):
points each for og On Andobi and Jalen Brunson. The
Boston Celtics from three point range fifteen for sixty. The
NBA Coach of the Year is Cleveland's Kenny Atkinson. Utah
gave coach Will Hardy an extension through twenty thirty one.
In the NHL's second round playoff opener at Toronto, the
Maple Leafs held on for a five to four victory
over Florida. The NHL's draft lottery won by the Islanders.
(32:01):
The Baltimore Ravens release kicker Justin Tucker to Major League
Baseball in a late game at Arizona. Right now, in
the bottom of the ninth the Mets are holding on
to a five to four lead over the Diamondbacks, and
in Northern California, it's bottom of the eighth inning. The
A's tied with the Mariners five to five. Cleveland at
Washington reigned out. They'll play a doubleheader tomorrow. The Dodgers
(32:23):
won again seven to four at Miami, two run homers
for Shoheo Tani and Freddie Freeman, but Teoscar Hernandez, who
had his thirty fourth RBI to lead the league left
with hamstring tightness. The Padres won their sixth straight. They's
still just a half game back of the Dodgers four
to three San Diego wins in rainy Yankee Stadium thanks
to four runs in the eighth. There had been a
(32:44):
couple of rain delays in this one. Atlanta shut out
Cincinnati four nothing. Home wins for Kansas City and Milwaukee
home wins for Saint Louis and the Cubs as well.
Cubs beat San Francisco nine to two, winning pitcher Matthew
Boyd with seven strikeouts in six in. The Cubs lefty
show to Imanaga was placed on the injured list with
a strained hamstring. Mets alfielder Jesse Winker is out six
(33:07):
to eight weeks with a strained oblique. Arizona pitcher Corbin
Burns missed his start tonight due to shoulder fatigue. Mariners
alfielder Randy A. Rose Arena out tonight with a hamstring injury.
Minnesota activated third baseman Royce Lewis, and the new hitting
coach for the Texas Rangers is Brett Boone.
Speaker 1 (33:23):
Back to you, Thank you, Steve All The Jason Smith
Show with my best friend Mike Harmon. Well, we asked
this question earlier in the show, and now we got
to ask it again. Yes, sir, changed. The three best
teams in the NBA far and away. The three best
teams in the NBA, the Thunder, the Celtics, and the
Caps all beat the Knicks. Yes, the Fixes in regular season.
(33:43):
This ain't your Knicks regular season team anymore. All three
the three best teams are all down one zip in
the second round of the playoffs. Which team is in
the most trouble? Is the answer?
Speaker 2 (33:57):
Still?
Speaker 1 (33:58):
Who we said earlier? Or had it changed? That's next
Jason and Mike Fox.
Speaker 2 (34:04):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific, Fox.
Speaker 1 (34:12):
Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmon. Let's go. Well, if every night of the
second round of the playoffs is going to be like this,
I think we'll.
Speaker 3 (34:23):
Be pretty happy, pretty excited.
Speaker 1 (34:27):
The Knicks win maybe the greatest game, oh boy, since
two thousand in the NBA in their history, No, everybody history,
bigger everybody, yeah yeah yeah, bigger, bigger yeah? Wait better?
I don't know. I'm gonna go reason ze bias and
I'll take this. Nuggets come back better than Ray Allen
hitting the three bigger uh. The Knicks beat the Celtics
one o eight, one oh five. The Celtics last chance
(34:50):
to tie the game, where they went fifteen for sixty
from three point range, mcal Bridges rips the ball out
of Jalen Brown's arms. They don't even get a shot off,
and moments ago, after two miss free throws by chat
Hounggren on a fast break, Aaron Gordon hits the game
winning three for the Nuggets. They'd take Game one over
(35:10):
the Thunder. So now here we sit the three best
teams in the NBA by far, three best teams not
not even close coming into the playoffs, Cavaliers, Celtics, and
the Thunder. Everybody else a notch below. The three best
teams in the NBA playoffs are now all faced with
must wins in Game two or risk having an incredible
(35:31):
season go down the drain. It's crazy, right, just how
fast life comes at you. We asked this question earlier
in the show. Okay, we said, okay, first round, two
best teams in the East both down one zip Calve Celtics.
Who's in more trouble. Okay, now let's ask the question again,
because now all three of the best teams all down
one Zip, Calves, Celtics, Thunder. Which of the three teams
(35:57):
is in most trouble in this series? They still say
it's the case.
Speaker 3 (36:00):
Now, it's funny that you know your mind plays tricks
on you while you're watch stuff. How many shots Aaron
Gordon hitting the fourth quarter?
Speaker 1 (36:07):
One one?
Speaker 3 (36:08):
That's it, right, A couple of free throws of the
one shot, a couple in the third, but finished with
twenty two on the night. But for the Cavaliers, the
number of injuries that they have and their biggest strength
has been the old SNL skit about the bank that
makes change. How do we make money volume? That's what
the Cavaliers have been about, right. It's an assault of players.
(36:31):
Second unit has multiple guys that can come in and
defend you at any point on the court, as well
as the scorer and ty Jerome coming off. Well, now
you're looking at mobiley, big time defender on not there.
Most likely you're looking at Hunter who's got a big injury,
probably not gonna play, And Darius Garland hasn't been there
for the last few games might actually return off the
(36:53):
toe injury. They've been able to survive for the most
part without him, but the attrition already hitting this fast,
and it's a Pacers team that is relentless.
Speaker 1 (37:06):
They're a bad matchup. That's the whole thing about the
Cavaliers is that the Pacers coming in were a bad
matchup for the Cavaliers already and now being without Garland
and likely you know, Mobiley's out, two Hunters out like
Gedny Atkinson today they're doubtful. The latter two are doubtful,
which means they're not playing in game two. No miracles
right now. Maybe you get Garland back, right, which would
(37:27):
be terrific, Right, you get Garden back. Okay, that's fantastic,
But yeah, i'd love to be I would say in
order it goes like this, because I'm gonna give you
an order, and you know, I'm not sitting to say, Yeah,
the Celtics in the most trouble because you know the Knicks,
because you know the Nicks out good day, all right.
Speaker 3 (37:44):
Yeah, but you're excited because there's only three choices and
they're automatically on the metal stand.
Speaker 1 (37:48):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, the Celtics you more because the Knicks
because you know my Knicks and Nicks are gonna I'm
gonna stab you with this. The Celtics are in the
least trouble. They're the leastole. Yeah, they're playing the next
stays Frost. But you're not even in the playoffs. Okay,
I'm still in the playoffs. You're out of the playoffs
and team I'm in the playoffs. I'm at the bar,
(38:09):
I'm talking a whole bunch of hot women, and you're
outside texting me going, hey, I'm I'm behind the rope,
can you get me in? I'm like, dude, this is
a playoff only bar. I'm sorry. You have to be
in the playoffs to be in this bar. You have
to wait outside. I'm sorry. So it's your first time
at that bar? Yeah, first time there. Hey, drinks on me, everybody,
all right, get them around. So the Nick So the Celtics, look,
(38:30):
Celtics are they had a night where they're not gonna
shoot like that from three point range again most likely,
and the Knicks, well, the Knicks par an't gonna shoot
free throws like that. But the Celtics are in the
least amount of trouble, second most or second least I
want to look at it the Thunder. Yes, the Nuggets
with their champions mentality. Again, it's just the same group
of guys a couple of years ago. One at all.
(38:52):
It's not like they're unbeatable at home. It's not like
they were a couple of years ago. Uh. This and
this is a really good Thunder team that can take
a game like this, flush it and get back in
the series pretty easy. But yeah, the Calves are in
the most trouble because the injuries are killers. And it's
one thing if it was one injury, right, Okay, Hey,
Garland's out, but they've won Without Garland, they've won. It's
(39:14):
been okay. Without Guardan's miss the last couple of games,
it's been okay. But this is a team that's built
on waves and the best offense in the NBA. And
you're talking about your rotation is nine to nine deep.
If one guy is out, okay, here's what we're gonna do. Right,
one guy is out, So here's what's gonna start. Most
likely it's gonna be this. This guy's getting minutes coming
in here. Yes we're gonna miss him, but this is
how we're gonna make up for it. We're taking one
(39:35):
piece out and putting a new piece in. Now it's
like Jenga where you're like, Okay, I gotta take three
pieces out, and I either have to give more responsibility,
more playing time to other players, or I have to
put other guys in for more minutes that never get
off the bench. What am I gonna do all of
a sudden when you're built on a rotation like this
that can score. Yeah, the ca I'd love to be
able to change my answer, but the Cavaliers are still
(39:56):
in the most trouble. Cavaliers then thunder, then Selt, Yeah,
the thunder. It's it's now there.
Speaker 3 (40:03):
You're playing against history, you're playing against the veteran acumen
and not being able to close out up fourteen with
six point thirty nine remaining in this game and not
being able to close. But for the Cavaliers in a
very dangerous spot. Even though you got the Coach of
the Year, maybe this just hastens his exit since that.
Speaker 1 (40:24):
Award is cursed. Yeah, you get a year. You know again,
that is very much about I want an award. Yeah,
I don't think he wants that award. It's like hunger games.
You get selected but then you're going in to die
like it's it's very difficult tribute. I mean, you think
you're the only but I'm gonna make it. No No
may be the best song in the world. Probably not
sorry about that. Eat your Soul exit out about a
(40:46):
Fresca exit swellendum coming up. Next, we get into the
biggest topic of conversation coming off this Nuggets incredible win
over the Thunder keeping ear
