Speaker 2 (00:46):
In the NBA, we saw Victor Wembanyama with a fifty
perform fifty piece. We saw Jannis and a massive effort.
He was almost perfect at the foul line. That's the
thing that stood out for me in that when he
was sixteen to seventeen for the line. Get into his
fifty nine points tonight as the Bucks win, and then
Doug got Lee Bark colleague here at Fox Sports Radio,
(01:07):
got his first win as a coach.
Speaker 4 (01:08):
So all that they say, yeah, huge stuff.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
Celebratory times all around as we get to the holiday
holiday holiday season. And one of the things that I
love your tradition unlike any other. Here in Los Angeles
KOST one three five. Here in Los Angeles, they flipped
the Christmas music at eight am on Friday, Oh.
Speaker 3 (01:28):
My good or before Thanksgiving.
Speaker 4 (01:31):
Damn raise. It's the most wonderful time of the year.
Why not expand it?
Speaker 3 (01:36):
You're into the whole Christmas?
Speaker 2 (01:37):
Hey, Elvis, that's right, Elvis One's saying, why can't every
day be like Christmas?
Speaker 4 (01:43):
What a wonderful world it would be.
Speaker 5 (01:45):
My wife is has the one TV permanently on the
Hallmark channel, so she can watch all the Christmas movies.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
By the way, there's another channel.
Speaker 5 (01:54):
Too now that does the well you got lifeless movies,
you know Hallmark Lifetime?
Speaker 2 (01:58):
Right does a Lifetime have its own like holiday sub
section station the day.
Speaker 5 (02:03):
I still want to be in one of those you know,
let's you know, I want to be like the lumberjack
innkeeper and the guy that falls in love going.
Speaker 3 (02:11):
Where did she go?
Speaker 4 (02:12):
And I go?
Speaker 3 (02:12):
I saw her go to the airport.
Speaker 5 (02:14):
We're a luggage but I know a short cut hop
in my red pickup and we'll break through it. We'll
get you there in time. I know the TSA agent.
His name is Jarvis. He was a friend of mine.
He'll make sure the plane doesn't leave it. We'll get
there in time.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
Wow, you just incorporated love actually the Marvel Universe with Jarvis.
Speaker 5 (02:38):
But you know they filmed Beetle Juice Beetlejuice out here,
like forty five minutes from my house.
Speaker 4 (02:43):
Did you drive over there?
Speaker 6 (02:45):
No?
Speaker 3 (02:45):
I didn't want to bother.
Speaker 5 (02:46):
I'm like, God, the heck if I don't have a
talking talking line, I don't want to be in that.
Speaker 4 (02:50):
But you could have been buddies with Tim Burton.
Speaker 3 (02:53):
That's true too.
Speaker 4 (02:54):
Yeah, we could be hanging out with Michael Keaton.
Speaker 3 (02:56):
Yeah. I like Michael Keaton.
Speaker 5 (02:58):
I played basketball with him, yes, at Barrington Park in
Los Angeles.
Speaker 4 (03:02):
Really.
Speaker 3 (03:03):
Yeah, he's a good guy. He is a good guy.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
How about that? He's also Batman? Broadcasting live from the
tirack dot com studios. Tyrack dot com will help you
get there an unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road
hazard protection, over ten thousand recommended installers.
Speaker 4 (03:17):
Tyrack dot com the way tire buying should be Now.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
Arnie coming up in twenty minutes, we'll talk to our
guy Todd Furman get an early look at the week
that is in Vegas as we get towards the next
iteration of the College Slate right top twenty five rankings
came out and much debated, a lot of football to
be played and of course the NFL moving the calendar
(03:42):
forward as we get to the back half of the season.
But one of the stories we talked about briefly with
our guy Jason Cole this.
Speaker 4 (03:48):
Last hour Dion Sanders.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
Yeah, talking about how he'll privately step in to keep
Shudor from the quote unquote wrong team drafting him in NFL.
He showed up on Speak on FS one to do this,
was asked Goues. Yeah, but I'm not gonna do it publicly.
But by doing these appearances.
Speaker 3 (04:12):
That's public.
Speaker 4 (04:13):
He's got to doing it publicly, isn't he.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
I mean he may not be naming names and holding up,
you know, mini helmets or graphics of the team logos,
but you know it's the understood no in the wink.
Speaker 4 (04:24):
You know who you are.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
You know.
Speaker 5 (04:26):
When I asked him, you know, how's he going to
do it? He goes, Well, it happens a lot. They
brought up Eli Manning, and well, Eli Manning was a
long time Eli Manning was what twenty years ago, so
you know, it hasn't happened in like twenty years. It's
going to be tough to make sure both of them
end up with the same team, if that's what he's
(04:47):
trying to do, or just make sure they're both in
a good situation.
Speaker 3 (04:51):
You know, I don't blame him for wanting to do this.
Speaker 5 (04:54):
You don't want him to end in the situation where
it's not good for the kids. But this is the
system we have, and he going to go ahead and
manipulate it. I don't know if that means he wanted
the Dallas cowboy job and he wants to take everybody
with him to Dallas. I'm not sure if he wants
to make sure the kids end up with the with
the Raiders and Antonio Pierce. What's going to happen if
(05:15):
the Raiders have let's say the fourth or fifth pick,
what about the top fourteens?
Speaker 3 (05:19):
How is it fair to them? You know, you're opening
up a.
Speaker 5 (05:22):
Whole can of worms here when you're saying, you know,
don't take my uh, take these kids because they're not
gonna go out. This isn't like Broddy James, and you're
telling everybody else don't take Broddy.
Speaker 3 (05:34):
Nobody else was gonna take Broddy.
Speaker 5 (05:36):
I don't know how you gonna manipulate it that you're
gonna make sure that the right team takes both kids.
I think I think there's gonna be a problem here, Mike.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
Well, I mean, we've seen it happen in other sports, right,
We've seen it in baseball.
Speaker 4 (05:47):
Guy gets drafted by a squad, whether.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
It's a million rounds in basically right, but even if
they get drafted up top, we've seen it happen.
Speaker 4 (05:54):
I was like, oh, I'm not signing with them.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
Well they go back in school, right, go back to school,
or go back into the draft the next year.
Speaker 4 (06:00):
R You have options.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
And that's the thing about it is, you know, you
could try to play the clout game and for the Raiders,
they'll run Gardner Minshew out again this week. Who's to
say Antonio Pierce is there by the way, that's all.
That's a whole other thing.
Speaker 4 (06:13):
I think he'll be that.
Speaker 3 (06:14):
They don't usually have to can you after what? Well,
I wasn't after one.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
That's not true, it's one one and the bonus, but
you know its Mark Davis. And it's also if the
invisible hand can allow you know, should or Sanders to
show up there. Who's to say Dion doesn't have you
know him, Maybe he wants Antonio Pierce to stay, maybe
he doesn't.
Speaker 4 (06:35):
But to your point.
Speaker 2 (06:36):
About you know the draft order, I have no doubt
behind the scenes you've had a lot of chatter through
the years of hey, this guy would rather go here,
there or whatever.
Speaker 4 (06:46):
You know how much of that goes public? I don't know, no, no, right,
but certainly sighting No, you don't think there.
Speaker 5 (06:53):
Are no no, I don't think anybody has said, oh, well,
if you want them, we'll just pass on.
Speaker 4 (06:59):
No, no, no, I'm not saying I'm not saying that.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
I'm just saying, from an agent standpoint and from a
family standpoint, we.
Speaker 3 (07:06):
Try to make a guy drop. I understand that.
Speaker 4 (07:08):
But that's the thing.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
But but that's but but yeah, how any how is
that any more distasteful than all right, we're gonna leak
this out.
Speaker 4 (07:16):
It's not really true.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
You might take a reputation hit, but we might get
you in the draft, right, right? How is how is
that any better than someone just saying, you know what,
don't draft him, he's not gonna sign.
Speaker 5 (07:26):
Well, yeah, because you're picking picking a particular team.
Speaker 3 (07:28):
I think in this case with Dion, aren't you well?
Speaker 2 (07:31):
But but I don't know if it's the Raiders or
the Cowboys or I mean the other day.
Speaker 4 (07:34):
They could just be I don't want you here, here, here,
or here because of the.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Market, the infrastructure, the GM, the coach, what you know,
or the the owner as a whole.
Speaker 5 (07:46):
Like if Chicago didn't have a quarterback. I'm sure he
didn't want his son play a quarterback for the Chicago.
Speaker 4 (07:51):
But dare you.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
How dare you? Dolphins stand? Yeah, exactly and nice win
on Monday, by the way.
Speaker 5 (07:59):
Well thank you. They keep their hopes alive. But I
think it's gopened up a whole can. People are gonna
say things like, you know, he shouldn't get involved, he
should play by the system. I'm not so sure that
the system isn't a little antiquated that we have to
maybe updated a little bit. But uh, it's gonna be
interesting to see how he's going to go ahead and
manipulate this to make sure the kids are on the
(08:19):
right team.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
It is Funny though, because we go back and you know,
j cole sided and we have these discussions Eli and Elway.
Speaker 4 (08:27):
Those never really get brought up.
Speaker 3 (08:29):
Because there are a million years ago, Mike.
Speaker 2 (08:31):
But but it doesn't matter. It's still the same principle
even when they were playing.
Speaker 3 (08:34):
Eli gets brought up every time we talk about this.
Speaker 2 (08:36):
Right, but but it's never done with the same you know, disgust.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
But there's a lot of hate.
Speaker 4 (08:44):
Yeah, but I don't know how much that lasted.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
Like once he started playing and they started winning, and
the Chargers had Philip Rivers, they had had their own
level of success that in the end it was all right,
you move on.
Speaker 3 (08:58):
Well, you know what, it's not gonna be a big deal.
I'll tell you why.
Speaker 5 (09:01):
Because Jacksonville doesn't want a quarterback because they have Trevor Lawrence. Carolina, Yeah,
they don't want a quarterback. Well, they just sign them
to a new contract. So let's just pass on them
for the argument's sake. Here, Carolina is gonna do that.
They'll need a quarterback. But here's here's the whole story.
If you're gonna go ahead and screw over Carolina, nobody
really cares about that. Nobody cares if you go ahead
(09:22):
and jump over Tennessee or Cleveland. Uh, so you can
get to the Raiders. That's why people will make that
big of a deal of it, because they'll want them
on the Raiders instead of ending up in Jacksonville or Cleveland.
Speaker 3 (09:34):
Or a place like that.
Speaker 2 (09:35):
But again it goes to the you know, the TV
show and the entertainment factor and all of that, and
when you have clout whatever your position is. Right, we
always talk about changing rules, right, you were talking about
the NBA. Hey, we need to adopt all sorts.
Speaker 4 (09:49):
Of new rules.
Speaker 3 (09:50):
Well they have.
Speaker 2 (09:51):
If the draft hasn't and they haven't moved forward, then
how do you affect change?
Speaker 3 (09:56):
They've did just a little bit. Yeah they have, Well
they've a little bit.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
Well, but I'm just saying, like, how do you affect change?
You you revolt from it? Right years ago, you know when
those guys got screwed by the courts, Mike Williams, Maurice
Claret and those guys, right when they wanted to go
to the NFL and they were told they couldn't. And
then those guys both got you know, became bus nowadays
that at least have a couple million dollars in the bank,
(10:22):
you know, based on the new rules and everything, but it.
Speaker 3 (10:25):
Would ail money before they got that far anyway.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
Well, I mean look, and that's what I mean, Like,
now you have rules that would at least get them
money to wear that decision. Okay, yeah, you stay in college.
You're quasi professional whatever we're calling that at this point.
But back then you had a ruling that looked like
you were gonna be okay, so you sign marketing people,
you sign an agent, and then another court comes in
(10:48):
and says, well, no you can't, and now you can't
go back to school. So now you're in no man's land.
Williams eventually became, you know, a tight end and was
around the league, kicked around for a couple you're still
was a top pick. He still got paid as a
back end type top ten getting drafted. He was in
Detroit and then Tennessee and cups of coffee elsewhere. Clarette famously,
(11:10):
you know, had his jail run and everything, and he
does public speaking and turned his life around or whatever else.
But he was a guy that, you know, if a
team wanted to draft him off of his knee injury
and bring him in with strength coaches or whatever. I've
never understood the idea that you've got to stay in
college for three years. Yes, those are rate engagement.
Speaker 4 (11:28):
But are they right?
Speaker 3 (11:30):
No, you don't have to put you challenge.
Speaker 5 (11:33):
Wait, but you can't possibly think that Sanders and Hunter
are going to be on the same team.
Speaker 2 (11:39):
No, No, not at all. And I don't think and
I don't think that's what's Dion saying. I think I'm
just trying to make sure they go to positions and
circumstances where they're not going to be in a spot
where their career sputters, you know, not not just from
the the marketing and availability. Look the NFL we make
(12:00):
and can market no matter the logo on the side
of the helmet, Right, you can still go and make
your money and whatever. But to go and thrive and
become stars on a whole other level and compete, uh
at you know, for titles, for division crowns, whatever that
goal is. There's plenty of teams. I mean, you can
look at it and say they don't get out of
their own way.
Speaker 5 (12:20):
Let me tell you where he's gonna the Sanders will
be the quarterback for the Raiders. I don't know how
it's going to happen. Don't ask me. You know, well,
what's gonna happen here or the draft. I don't have
the draft order. We don't know till the end of
the year. Somehow Dion will go ahead, make sure he's
on the Raiders, and you know what.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
Hunter's gonna play for it, don't you? You know who
who needs themselves?
Speaker 5 (12:39):
Maybe a corner, maybe a wide receiver that Dion has
a kid out, Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 3 (12:45):
That's a good guess. That's what'll hold end up.
Speaker 4 (12:47):
I don't know I was.
Speaker 5 (12:48):
Gonna be able to pull that off, because you know,
Dallas isn't gonna have like the second pick or anything.
But they'll have a top ten pick. They'll figure it out,
and they'll end up with the Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 2 (12:57):
You can back up, well, by time we get to
the end of the season, with the Cooper Rush slash
Trey Lance world going on, we may actually get there.
Dallas currently sitting at eleventh or well, they're tied with
Miami right now for the tenth tenth over your.
Speaker 3 (13:11):
Teeth in the NFC.
Speaker 5 (13:12):
Yeah, they'll have a top ten pick, but they're not
gonna win too many games after this.
Speaker 2 (13:16):
But I get the I guess the point I'm trying
to make is that in the end, if we're going
to change up rules in each game for whatever, marketability, sales, whatever,
someone's got to take that stand.
Speaker 4 (13:26):
Right. Every time we get.
Speaker 2 (13:27):
To the Players Association and it's time to go and
re up, you know, the CBA, what do they take
an extra day off, an extra you know, bowl of
soup at lunch instead of something substantive for the players
When it comes to the draft, it's gonna take a
shdor Sanders and Travis Hunter and maybe a couple of
(13:48):
other of their classmates to just say, you know what,
this system doesn't work for us, and what is that
gonna evaluate?
Speaker 5 (13:54):
What is that gonna It's not like they're gonna go
ahead and you know, throw a class action lawsuit and
get it settled by the start of the NFL Draft.
Speaker 4 (14:03):
That's not going down, no, But they could start that process.
Speaker 7 (14:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (14:07):
I don't know I want to go down that well,
but but they could, right, I guess you want to
you want to affect change, sometimes you need some drastic stuff.
Speaker 2 (14:15):
I'm not advocating anything crazy, but in terms of trying
to force the hand, you know, force the hand and
get to a situation you want to be in.
Speaker 4 (14:25):
I think that's what everybody wants to do in their
respective jobs.
Speaker 5 (14:30):
And now, yeah, we pay athletes now, so we got
changed there, that's for sure.
Speaker 4 (14:35):
Right.
Speaker 2 (14:35):
So now going into college, I mean, look at look
at what may happen. Like if Dion doesn't go to
the league as a coach and he goes, say to
his alma mater at Florida State, how many of those
guys at Colorado go with him?
Speaker 4 (14:47):
He could?
Speaker 3 (14:47):
Well, he could go to Florida State. That'd be you
know what I'm.
Speaker 2 (14:51):
Saying though, But like like like say, take Dion's own
world and put it back into college.
Speaker 4 (14:57):
He leaves, he can take half his team with him.
There's no reconcussion.
Speaker 3 (15:00):
Hundred Where do you think he ends up?
Speaker 5 (15:02):
Before we go to a break, Where do you think
he does he go back to Colorado?
Speaker 3 (15:05):
Does he go to the Cowboys? Does he go to Florida?
Speaker 4 (15:08):
Stay?
Speaker 2 (15:08):
I think he stays right where he is for now
for another couple of years.
Speaker 4 (15:13):
Still got Shiloh. Shiloh's not going anywhere yet.
Speaker 5 (15:16):
Yeah, I think he may go to the Cowboys somehow.
Get you it's the opening. I think that's the opening.
You gotta go when it's.
Speaker 3 (15:22):
The right time. But I think Adam's gonna be up
this year.
Speaker 2 (15:24):
I think I go back to the Jason Cole line
of the Cowboys are only getting someone who's desperate. He's
Arnie Spanier. Mike Carmon, Welcome in. It's the Jason Smith
Show with Me Mike Carman. Jason Off Tonight off ill
find Arnie at Stink and Genius one find me over
at Swollen Dome. Coming up next, we turn our attention
to Las Vegas and our buddy Todd Furman. He'll stop
by to go through all the odds and ends and
(15:46):
wagering opportunities for you this weekend.
Speaker 7 (15:48):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (15:59):
Welcome Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith yeaw with me
Mike Harmon alongside my guy Arnie Spander in for Jason
Smith Tonight here from the tyrack dot Com Studios.
Speaker 4 (16:10):
I owned up there, big boy.
Speaker 3 (16:14):
Feeling good.
Speaker 4 (16:14):
I'm ready to roll, being all right, yeah all right,
just rolling half way?
Speaker 3 (16:18):
Yeah, why wouldn't I what do you think, I'm tired?
Speaker 2 (16:20):
Come on, just trying to make sure you know, getting
that cardio in. As we roll through Big night, we
had an NBA, a lot of big performances, planning a
triple double from Lebron with the Lakers here as they're
I haven't closing and.
Speaker 3 (16:35):
I have the Laker game on.
Speaker 5 (16:36):
Yeah, they had an early double digit lead. Now it's
one sixteen, one ten, a little bit less than four
minutes left in the game, so Anthony Davis would hit
a three, So they're looking good on this one. They're
about to get another win, but they're still right around
a little bit over five hundred.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
Long road begins with the first step thirty two, eleven
and thirteen on the game for Lebron in his thirty
three minutes played, Anthony Davis refusing to wear goggles.
Speaker 4 (17:02):
You're a goggles guy, aren't you?
Speaker 3 (17:06):
I am.
Speaker 5 (17:06):
I'm totally a goggles guy that but a minor prescription goggles.
So I wouldn't be able to shoot if I didn't
have them on, So I gotta have that.
Speaker 2 (17:14):
How expert a marksmen are you with them?
Speaker 4 (17:19):
Oh?
Speaker 5 (17:19):
Geez, I'm dead on man, I'm sixty something and I
can still hit the three porter like it's going down
of south, though my knee has swallowed. I had to
go to the doctor in the last couple of days.
Gonna be on the shelf for about three or four weeks.
Speaker 3 (17:30):
I'm out.
Speaker 4 (17:30):
Did tear a meniscus or just to stress?
Speaker 5 (17:34):
I just regular arthritis.
Speaker 3 (17:37):
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (17:37):
Work it out too hard, you know. I like to
do the Orange Theory fitness.
Speaker 6 (17:41):
I like to.
Speaker 5 (17:41):
I bought my gravity boots where you hang upside down
and you do sit ups.
Speaker 3 (17:45):
So I think I'm mnna, you know, strained something? You know?
Speaker 2 (17:48):
All right, let's get the over under on. When you
next take you by, we'll head out to Las Vegas.
Bet the Board podcast is where you find him all
the latest and greatest, now car, the NFL, NBA, NCAA,
you got it. It's all there for you at Todd
Furman on Twitter where you find him. Do you buy
(18:10):
this guy hanging upside down like a bat in anti
gravity boots to do some crunches?
Speaker 6 (18:15):
Todd, I think.
Speaker 8 (18:17):
Arnie can hang upside down with the best of them.
But do I think Arnie can actually do a crunch
when he's hung upside down?
Speaker 6 (18:22):
Absolutely not.
Speaker 8 (18:23):
I'm setting the over under at a half a crunch,
and I'm juicing the under it about a one to six.
Speaker 5 (18:27):
Peak, just like American jiggle a though, like Richard Gear.
Just to hang upside down and start pumping up those
sit ups out there, you know what I mean, they're thought.
Speaker 8 (18:37):
I mean, look, Arnie, I'm not going to sell you
short from where you may have been in your physical peak,
but I'm going to say that you are now longer
built like John Bastow and people aren't going to confuse
you for any ab Ripper X models anytime soon.
Speaker 3 (18:51):
Yeah, no, nice, I agree with you there, all right.
Speaker 5 (18:54):
What's the biggest movement so far coming up this weekend
in some college football? Not a big schedule, maybe one
the one game with a couple of right opponents, But
which way is the line moving on some of these games?
Speaker 8 (19:06):
Yeah, we've seen some movement in the marquee game of
the weekend, of course, Tennessee and Georgia. That'll go a
long way in determining the pecking order in the SEC
and Georgia more or less than an elimination type scenario
from here on out. So when you look at the
number on that game, Georgia opened as what as a
seven point favorite some books, we are now upwards of ten,
ten and a half, and even an eleven popping at
(19:26):
a prominent offshore book. Speculation running rampant about the availability
for Tennessee's quarterback Nico I am Maliava, but I expect
him to be out there, and once that becomes official,
I do think the number will come back a little bit.
Speaker 6 (19:38):
But you can make the case that it's a good.
Speaker 8 (19:40):
Bi lo opportunity for Georgia or that some of the
issues that we saw on full display last Saturday in
Oxford will continue to manifest themselves knowing that their offensive
line leads a little bit to be desired.
Speaker 6 (19:50):
So that's one of the.
Speaker 8 (19:51):
Bigger moves that we've seen on a Marquee game, and
of course plenty of G five games moving all over
the place. I know, Arnie, you'll be glued to your
TV on Saturday to watch Sam Houston State take on
Tennessaw State, where we've seen the Bearcats go from a
twelve and a half point favorite up to sixteen and
a half. Surprisingly, tennsof firing their head wow here despite
seeing market improvement from the Owls from where they started
(20:13):
a campaign.
Speaker 4 (20:13):
He locked lad.
Speaker 2 (20:14):
I was surprised that the line movement was only what
three and a half four points there in the Tennessee
Georgia game based on the availability, Yeah.
Speaker 6 (20:23):
I mean, I think Nico is going to go.
Speaker 8 (20:25):
I know they have official determination at least coming out
of Knoxville, is that he's got a concussion. But from
the folks I talked to, was a full participant in
practice today. And you know, when you look at how
Nico has performed this year to kind of lead that offense,
you can't make him a massive drop off to Gaston
more if that's who we do see under center, given
the fact that Tennessee has really had a lean on
Dylan Sampson in the backfield, and more about what they've
(20:48):
done defensively this year, holding all of their opponents to
twenty points or less.
Speaker 5 (20:53):
Todd upset wise, you don't get a lot of value
if you want to take Florida over LSU.
Speaker 3 (21:00):
I don't think you're getting a lot of value.
Speaker 8 (21:01):
There no short number here with LSU about a four
point favorite in that game, and another contest where you're
trying to figure out who the starting quarterback will indeed
be for the Florida Gators Aid and Warner, their third
string quarterback, gets the nod. Last week They're down thirty
five nothings in a half at Texas and just a
bad matchup overall.
Speaker 6 (21:18):
If DJ Lagway goes, it gives.
Speaker 8 (21:20):
Florida a little bit more of a dynamic playmaker. You
wonder where LSU is as a football team, knowing their
hopes of getting to the College Football Playoff have more
or less been dashed with that disappointing effort last Saturday
night under the bright lights against the Crimson Tide.
Speaker 6 (21:33):
And when you look at LSU's.
Speaker 8 (21:35):
Full body of work right now, I don't think it
would surprise anybody if they didn't get off the bus
for this performance here. Florida needs this game like blood
if they're going to get themselves be eligible with a
date against Old Miss Stell on deck and a very
winnable regular season finale in an in state showdown against
the reeling Florida State.
Speaker 2 (21:54):
Seminal, no question about it. Florida also given the vote
of confidence Napier and Brian Dell, he can do one
of those cool promo videos of signing and all of
that stuff again, NFL Slate, we get right off the
jump on Thursday Night football Washington at Philly Philly at
three and a half point home favorite Sirianni always the
(22:14):
topic of discussion, but you know, with all the struggles
in Chicago, suddenly Cliff Kingsbury is the king.
Speaker 8 (22:21):
I mean, he has done an out standing job figuring
out what kind of offense Jadan Daniels felt most comfortable running,
whether it's simplification or playing to his strength. You know,
it's paid dividends in Washington right now, and the Commanders
are in a spot that I don't think anybody anticipated
fighting for the number one spot in the NFC East. Meanwhile,
Philadelphia since their bye week, has figured some things out defensively.
(22:43):
Now for me, I think it's a little bit of
smoke and mirrors when you dig into the strength of
schedule and the opponents they faced.
Speaker 6 (22:48):
It's the Giants, it's the Browns, it's.
Speaker 8 (22:50):
The Jaguars, it's a number of inferior teams. They're arguably
the most impressive win they've had over the last handful
of weeks, a thirty seven to seventeen win against the
Cincinnati Bengals. But this one will go a long long way,
and it's usually difficult for a first year head coach
and a new play caller with a young quarterback to
have quick turnaround against a complex defensive scheme like they're
going to see from Vic Fangio. This number opened as
(23:12):
high as four, got as low as three, and we're
kind of sitting in the in between right now with
Philadelphia intrend did every casino that I have access to
as a three and a half point favor for tomorrow
night's game?
Speaker 5 (23:22):
You know, Todd, Usually we talk about teams that you like,
do better, say, Okay, I want to bet against some
of these terrible teams. I want to bet against the Raiders.
I want to bet against the Cowboys. I want to
bet a beit against Jacksonville. I want to take these
teams that have bet injuries and say we're giving up
on the year. We're waving the white flag and going
against them.
Speaker 3 (23:42):
Any value in that.
Speaker 6 (23:44):
You know.
Speaker 8 (23:44):
Unfortunately, that's a dangerous mindset to have as a professional.
Speaker 6 (23:48):
Better because the.
Speaker 8 (23:48):
Point spread is the great equalizer. And while a lot
of these teams have been bad to your point, Arnie,
there are numbers that are eventually going to create a
buy type scenario, and a team like Tennessee Titan's professional
betters have backed more often than not, and it's a
team that has just won ats success on their resume
so far this season. But again this week with a
number at six, you've seen a little bit of money
(24:09):
come in on the Tennessee Titans despite their ugly straight
up record, and you mentioned some of the bottom feeders there.
The Raiders number got out as high as eight. That
number has come down to seven. Jacksonville is the one
team that I'm not sure you're going to get a
ton of professional support on. This is a number that's
leaked all the way out to fourteen, and books have
found themselves, you know, kind of taking.
Speaker 6 (24:29):
A stance with the Detroit Lions. Last week, they.
Speaker 8 (24:31):
Ended up on the right side, you know, when they
moved that number from three to three and a half
and Alliance come home with a three point victory. But
there hasn't been much in the way of professional betters
trying to bet against Detroit. The one situation, notwithstanding, was
against the Green Bay Packers and we saw to Troy
go out there and cover as Dan Campbell continued to
be an ATM for recreational betters.
Speaker 2 (24:51):
Our guy Todd Berman with us here at the Jason
Smith Show with Me, Mike Arman, Arnie Span.
Speaker 4 (24:55):
You're in for Jason tonight.
Speaker 2 (24:57):
Follow Todd on Twitter at Todd Furman or bet the
board pod get all the goodness as they break down
the games for the collegiate Slate and the NFL. One
of the games that catches my attention trying to figure
out how real they are is that AFC North battle
Todd as Mike Tomlin is a home dog of three
points to the Ravens.
Speaker 4 (25:18):
You notice he gave.
Speaker 2 (25:18):
The little nod to mister Jackson in his presser the
other day.
Speaker 4 (25:23):
How do you see this one?
Speaker 8 (25:24):
A fascinating matchup and largely because we don't have a
large sample size of Lamar Jackson against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
For all of his accolades, it'll only be his fifth
start against Pittsburgh, whether he's been rested in week eighteen
or he's been out because of injury, and the numbers
for Lamar not great against this Steelers defense. But this
is a different looking Lamar Jackson and a much more
dynamic Baltimore Ravens offense that has kind of taken the
(25:47):
league by storm, and the rich get richer as they'll
begin to integrate Keaton Mitchell as a viable home run
threat in the backfield. We know about them trading for
Deontay Johnson, the former Pittsburgh Steelers, So homecoming of sorts there.
Mike Tomlin a little bit of shade in his general direction.
But I think when you're looking at this game on
the surface, what stands out is how high the total
is for two teams that for so many years saw
(26:10):
totals in the low forties, and it was kind of
the first team to twenty that got out of there
with a victory. But if this number gets to three
and a half, I do anticipate you'll see a little
bit of an appetite from pro betters that take the
home underdog.
Speaker 6 (26:21):
The way to make.
Speaker 8 (26:21):
Money between these two familiar foes has kind of been
to bet the dog blindly when they're at full strength,
especially if the number moves to a full field goal. So,
no doubt, one of the marquee games of the early slate.
No disrespect meant to your Packers and Bears game harm that.
I'm sure it'll get your undivided attention, but most of
the self respecting football world will be paying attention to
Baltimore Pittsburgh and Stead.
Speaker 5 (26:40):
You know, it's funny you bought that game up. I
was gonna say you got to be on the under
with the way the Bears offenses is looking like. Plus
it's forty and a half. That's a kind of high
number with the Bears involved.
Speaker 4 (26:50):
How dare you span your Yeah.
Speaker 8 (26:51):
We'll see what it looks like. I mean, the Bear's
parting waves of Shane Waldrin. I'm not sure you can
wave a magic wand and suddenly fix all the ales
what we've seen offensively. But keep in mind that this
was a game where Green Bay was a field goal
favorite before the Bears went out there and laid an
egg against the New England Patriots. Number reopened six six
and a half, and earlier today you started to see
a little bit of money come in on the home
(27:12):
underdog here, taking that price down into no man's land
at five. The Bears defensively still when they want to be,
can be rather stout, which is always intriguing if you're
getting a home underdog in this particular price range. But
you do wonder how much fight is left in this team.
You'd never like to see the finger pointing and the
fact that some of the rumors have been traced back
to DJ Moore calling for the potential benching of the
(27:32):
first overall pick and Caleb Williams does not suggest that
all of the Bears offensive playmakers are spending quality time
together off the field or sitting down in a friendship
circle at the team facility singing Kumbai Ya to make
sure they're pulling in the same direction.
Speaker 2 (27:46):
Every one of them getting as close to a microphone
as they can to say we didn't say that.
Speaker 4 (27:51):
Nobody said that.
Speaker 2 (27:53):
Denials across all the media appearances on Wednesday. Take that
with the grain of salt, very large one at that
maybe some of that nice pinging salt that Arnie uses
on all his his culinary dishes there in Kansas City, Buffalo.
Speaker 4 (28:08):
Buffalo is two point favorite.
Speaker 2 (28:09):
Undefeated team on the road, A dog here Todd forty
five and a half year total for the Sunday afternoon till.
Speaker 8 (28:17):
And Kansas City will no doubt be a very popular
public underdog in this spot, and it's hard to argue
when you look at the numbers that Patrick Mahomes is
put forth. He's got the best straight up record as
an underdog in his career eleven and three. He's gone
twelve and one against the numbers in those games.
Speaker 6 (28:32):
And what has he done in the dog role?
Speaker 8 (28:33):
The most passing yards and the best passer rating by
any quarterback as an underdog going all the way back
to the NFL AFL merger in nineteen seventy. That's among
three hundred and twenty three quarterbacks with ten plus starts
as a dog.
Speaker 6 (28:45):
So little to say.
Speaker 8 (28:46):
When Patrick Mahomes gets disrespected by the odds makers, he
takes it quite personally and elevates him and his teammates.
Kansas City defensively should be able to post some problems
for a Bills offense that could be down a number
of playmakers. We know no key on Coleman Amari and
Dalton Kincaid. A little bit of touch and go Cooper
I think is a little bit more probable to be
out there.
Speaker 6 (29:05):
Kincaid appears to be.
Speaker 8 (29:06):
A long shot, which means we could get a Dawson
Knox game. And for Buffalo defensively, they did open the
practice window on Matt Mlano, but I don't think he
is going to be out there. Should be a hell
of a matchup. Quite the rivalry brewing between two teams
that aren't in the same division, and you know, the
best combined record at seventeen of two of two teams
in the NFL entering a game in week eleven or
(29:27):
later since the infamous Chiefs Rams game back in twenty eighteen,
where I think they just scored another touchdown in routine,
eating fifty points, the walk out of there.
Speaker 4 (29:34):
With a victory.
Speaker 5 (29:35):
Todd, please again, I'm trying to help you win some money. Here,
take everything you have. Put it on mister Mike Tyson.
I'm only getting like plus one seventy. Have you seen
him in the workouts? You want to get punched by him?
That's like me saying, Todd, I got a thirty five
year old retired linebacker.
Speaker 3 (29:54):
Would you like him to tackle you?
Speaker 5 (29:55):
Of course not. I don't care how old Tyson is.
He's going to destroy Jake Paul. He's gonna kill him.
Speaker 8 (30:01):
Well, two things to keep in mind, Arnie, you can
get a price right around two to one. Should you
really like Mike Tyson and want to bash the exhibition
fight on Friday? And if Mike Tyson was still thirty five,
I would have no hesitation backing. And the problem for
Mike Tyson. He is nowhere close to being thirty five
years of age at this point, so you do wonder
the legitimacy of these kind of things. I know plenty
(30:22):
of folks will tune in to watch the fight Friday
night on Netflix and the Overrunner for those scoring this
thing at home sets it five and a half for
total rounds for the eighth.
Speaker 6 (30:30):
Round scheduled bout Wow, Jake Paul and Mike Tyson.
Speaker 4 (30:34):
Hey you go. He's Todd Furman.
Speaker 2 (30:35):
You find him in the Twitter verse at Todd Furman
at bet the Board pod on Sunday morning.
Speaker 4 (30:40):
He also gives you the where the pros.
Speaker 2 (30:42):
Are leaning and where the joes are leaning in the
quick videos that he does all of that and more.
Speaker 4 (30:47):
Listen to it.
Speaker 2 (30:48):
Get a little bit smarter at the water cooler and
in the debates. Todd appreciate you go make some money money,
Thanks for stopping.
Speaker 7 (30:54):
Always a pleasure, gentlemen.
Speaker 3 (30:55):
Have a great guys, tog.
Speaker 2 (30:56):
He's the best and he'll be on with you and
Plank on Sunday evening to wrap up another big slate
in the National Football League and a college slate. As
you say, already, not a lot of Top twenty five
head to heads, but certainly plenty of opportunities for teams
to trip and fall. That being said, we'll trip over
into the news update desk. Find ours guy, Isaac Lowangron,
(31:18):
Maybe get one of those thirty five year old ex linebackers.
Speaker 4 (31:22):
Payne, don't phase me. He's Isaac Lowangron. Payin.
Speaker 9 (31:25):
Don't phase me either, because there's no heavy lifting around here.
By just yammering into a microphone about what's going on
in the NBA right now. One other game going on.
The Los Angeles Lakers have one twenty five to one
twenty over the Memphis Grizzlies with eighteen seconds left to play.
Speaker 4 (31:42):
In the fourth quarter.
Speaker 9 (31:43):
Lebron James or the triple double thirty five points, twelve rebounds,
and fourteen assists. On Wednesday night, we also had two
fifty point games in the NBA. Giannis on Tedtakompo in
an overtime game against the Detroit Pistons on w TMJY,
Giannis was sixteen seconds to work with drives inside and
(32:04):
stuffs up down with.
Speaker 4 (32:04):
The right hand fifty nine points down.
Speaker 9 (32:07):
Per Giannis, He's tapping his chest as he goes to
the other wise saying this is my house.
Speaker 4 (32:13):
This is my House.
Speaker 9 (32:15):
Milwaukee won the game, one twenty seven to one twenty.
He also had fourteen rebounds and seven assists. Victor Wombin
Yama of the San Antonio Spurs had the first fifty
point game of his career in a one thirty nine
to one thirty win over Washington. He scored his fifty
to thirty two minutes, including eight three pointers. The Sacamento
Kings beat Phoenix won twenty seven to one oh four.
(32:35):
Deeron Fox twenty nine points and ten assists. Earlier Wednesday,
the Cleveland Cavaliers became the six team in NBA history
to start a season thirteen and oh. They won at
Philadelphia one fourteen to one OHO six. Chicago's Kobe White
made three free throws with three seconds left for a
one twenty four, one twenty three win over the New
York Knicks. And in college basketball on Wednesday, Fox Sports Radios,
(32:57):
Doug Gottlieb what his first game is a head coach
of Wisconsin Green Bay as they won at Western Illinois
eighty seven seventy three mind thirty five points and eight
three pointers by Anthony Roy. We take you now into
the winning locker. Room now for the game, as Doug's
players doused him with the gatorade bucket to celebrate his
first win. No word yet if Doug will expense us
(33:25):
or them for the flight cleaning bill back to you.
Speaker 2 (33:28):
Nicely, don Ilo at Isaac loh and Cron where you
find him on Twitter, Find me over at Swollen Doome Fine,
Alredy at stinkin Genius one.
Speaker 4 (33:36):
As we continue, we'll go back into the NBA.
Speaker 2 (33:38):
As this Laker game against the Grizzly starts to come
to an Endlarty, you were crying for big performances and headlines. Yes,
did one statistical note from this particular game? Did it
get ruined by a player a couple of years ago?
To we no longer give it the same love. We'll
talk that next. As we continue here at Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 7 (33:59):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.
Speaker 2 (34:06):
Hey, welcome back in Fox Sports Radio Jason Smith Show
with Me Mike Carmon, No Jason Smith Tonight, My guy
Arnie Spanier stands in as we watch the final here
from Los Angeles. The Lakers remain undefeated at home this year. Victories,
(34:27):
Hey take them where you find him. As you roll
through one twenty eight one to twenty three year final,
Lebron James with the triple double, Arnie, massive stat output
from him as we look at at thirty seven minutes,
thirty seven thirty five points, twelve rebounds, fourteen assists, did
have six turnovers, but a plus three for the night,
thirteen to twenty three or twenty two from the field,
(34:49):
four to seven from three point range, and he the
graphic they keep throwing up the oldest to ever record
three straight triple doubles, which is incredible. Right, look at
the minutes he's playing the body of work. And I'm wondering,
you know, if Russell Westbrook on some level didn't spoil
what the meaning and magnitude of a triple double.
Speaker 3 (35:10):
Is, why why would he have spoiled it?
Speaker 2 (35:12):
Well, because he was the guy of well he's good.
Like we were talking Tysher and I a little bit earlier, right,
And the history of the NBA these last say, fifteen
to twenty years, you've got some great players that a
lot of folks just kind of shrug, going, wow, Okay,
you know, James Harden, Right, we joke more about whether
he was wearing a fat suit to get himself traded
(35:33):
or talking himself out of situations than the player he's
been for his career. Russell Westbrook the same thing. Spats
with the media members or you know, being dissatisfied with
the role, or or having some issues in certain you know, circumstances, playoffs, whatever,
dismisses and pushes away some of the specialness of what
(35:53):
he did with those triple doubles and whether they're manufactured
or whatever. And Lebron had one the other day, Right,
he needed that last rebound and fought like hell to
get it, as someone was screaming from behind the bench
that he needed that one for a triple double. All
that to say, you know, when we go through last year,
Demonta Simonis had twenty six, Jokic with twenty five, Doncis
(36:15):
with twenty one, and then the next guy down the
list was Giannis had ten. But all of that to
say on the on the grand scale for the NBA
in terms of stats and trying to find that specialness
a couple of fifty point games tonight, you know, you're
just trying to find different things to market and sell
and for Lebron to some degree the oldest to do XYZ.
(36:38):
We're just assuming that that's just gonna be another paragraph
on the Wikipedia page.
Speaker 5 (36:42):
You know, yeah, that's that's not that big of a thing,
yokicch Look, if you want to get a triple double
at a particular game, I don't think like it's gonna
be Oh, let's you know, go to Iowa with breaking
news somebody has a triple double. But when you do
it for an entire season, I don't think it's lost
any special meeting there. Like I said, maybe one particular game, yes,
but you know that's not gonna be enough for me
(37:03):
to say, oh, you better put on the game. Joki
is about to get a triple double. That that's not
gonna be enough to draw me into a game no
matter what I'm watching.
Speaker 2 (37:11):
No, it certainly doesn't. But it doesn't even have the
juice in the aftermath. You know that it once did.
He leading the headlines locally the.
Speaker 3 (37:18):
First season though, but if it was for a season, but.
Speaker 2 (37:20):
Even the season, Russell Westbrook's like, you know, how many
did people try to nitpick a Well, everybody won the
MP right, he had the Jason kid, you know, kind
of triple double kind of situation going on. Hey, it's
a ten, eleven and twelve kind of rolling to it.
But Lakers undefeated at home, another big effort James and Davis,
(37:43):
And I think it really just comes back to the
So long as those two guys are healthy, you know
you're gonna you're gonna win not only your NBA Jam games,
but good things are gonna happen. Twenty one and fourteen.
Speaker 3 (37:55):
What do you think about JJ Reddick so far? What
do you think about it?
Speaker 5 (37:58):
First of all, he doesn't come off as a very
likable guy the whole. A couple of days ago when
he got up over the I already answered that question, sure,
And he's acted like he's been answering questions for twenty
years and it's finally gotten on his nerves.
Speaker 3 (38:11):
He comes off as not a very likable guy.
Speaker 4 (38:13):
But I don't know.
Speaker 3 (38:13):
I was doing x's and wise though.
Speaker 2 (38:16):
Well, certainly chap Ass, I mean there's no you know,
the red ass thing certainly plays and having worked in
the media, maybe.
Speaker 4 (38:25):
That's good, maybe that's bad.
Speaker 2 (38:26):
Whatever the case may be, it's at least short term
here it appears that there's more buy in and that
he's the trying to lead as opposed to deferring to
the players, which does start of the Darvin ham problem.
Speaker 4 (38:45):
Right where you'd have the whiteboard and.
Speaker 2 (38:48):
Sometimes some of the leaked audio from huddles that really
didn't seem to have a whole lot of direction other
than hey, go get him. Whereas Reddick, for what we've
seen thus far, I mean, and there seems to be
a plan. There seemed to be in in game adjustments.
We've certainly seen it rotationally. And what he's don DiAngelo
Russell and trying to get him to be a bit
(39:10):
of a Spark's like.
Speaker 5 (39:11):
Man Carroll who just cheers on the sideline and choos. God,
He's not like Pete Carroll and look at you.
Speaker 2 (39:19):
You wanted, you wanted, you just wanted to drag Pete
Carroll so randomly well.
Speaker 3 (39:23):
You know, just you want to go ahead.
Speaker 5 (39:25):
I mean, he dictates it all to his offensive and
defensive coordinators. Obviously you don't have that in the NBA,
but JJ Reddick very hands on compared to some of
the other Waker coaches before him.
Speaker 2 (39:36):
Well, and that and that's the thing, right is where
where's that line of demarcation? Especially when you're dealing with
a guy like Lebron James, because we've seen that, right,
it becomes the you're a placeholder in an empty suit
next to him.
Speaker 5 (39:48):
I saw him talking to Lebron, and I'm like, well, no,
your role here, back off, don't start, don't give.
Speaker 3 (39:53):
Him that type of attitude. You can't talk to Lebron
like that.
Speaker 4 (39:56):
Maybe it's a different world.
Speaker 2 (39:57):
Maybe maybe Lebron embraced it because it was this podcast partner.
Speaker 3 (40:01):
Yeah, that's true.
Speaker 4 (40:02):
And as much as.
Speaker 2 (40:03):
They all, maybe you know, deny his involvement in the
hiring process, none of us were born last night. So
we recognize that connection, no question about it. At Stick
a Genius one where you find Arnie on Twitter.
Speaker 4 (40:17):
You find me over at Swollen Dome.
Speaker 2 (40:19):
As we continue the Jason Smith Show with me, Mike
Harmon and coming up next, we turn our attention to
college football. No, not the top twenty five rankings, but
all the handwringing and whining about the start times of games.
Speaker 4 (40:31):
We'll do it now.
