Speaker 3 (01:04):
The Giliants have just won the Dodgers ground into a
double play to end it. Eight seven San Francisco Dodgers
have lost seventh straight.
Speaker 1 (01:13):
I was just gonna say one of the more entertaining
games of the year in Major League Baseball. Looks like
the Giants were gonna just roll over the Dodgers tonight.
They are up eight to two in the fifth inning,
but a big error opens the door for a Dodger comeback.
Dodgers have first and second, one out in the ninth
and Will Smith up, who is having a phenomenal season,
sitting three point thirty two for four on the night already,
(01:37):
and he grounds into a six four to three or
five to four to three double play to end the game.
Dodgers now lose seven in a row. Clearly they are
tanking for the number one pick in the MLB draft.
Is I don't know who it is. Probably some short
stop out of No. Tre Sherman Oaks, Notre Dame as
somebody's coming out who can also pitch. Yeah, yeah, exactly, Yeah,
(01:58):
the clearly that's who it is. That's what it's gonna be.
But wow, this kind of run, you know, And here's
the thing is that in Major League Baseball, it's really
hard to say that there are must wins in July,
right because I get right, there's no must wins in July.
But here they are, you know, just a few days
before the All Star Game.
Speaker 3 (02:18):
And they got swept by three in LA by Houston.
And then they got swept three at Milwaukee another.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
Milwaukee has never swept the Dodgers in Milwaukee ever.
Speaker 3 (02:30):
And now they're starting in a three game series at
San Francisco to finish this quote first half of the season.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
You know, against against your biggest rival. I there is
a category where this is a regular season must win game, right,
because you want to be able to stop the backsliding
go into the All Star Game on on an uptick
and not and not sit around and say, boy, over
the course of the last week, we gave away our lead.
(02:57):
And you know what I mean, we were comfortably up
over the Dodgers and the Giants and the Potters by
like eight nine games. And now suddenly, hey, the Giants
and Potters could be within two or three games by
the time we get to the All Star break. By too.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
If the Giants get a sweep this weekend, they already
got win one of the weekend show. Hey o, TONI
starting pitcher on Saturday afternoon.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
Yeah, this was kind of a must win game, a
regular season must win game for the Dodgers, because hey,
you don't want to go into the and give the
Giants life. Hey we're rolling here. But that's exactly what's happened.
Now seven in a row, and I think to Dodgers
it merits and it goes along with what we talked
about a few days ago. Right when the Dodgers lost
three in a row, Okay, everything's fine. They lose six
(03:37):
now to the Brewer is now seven in a row.
The Dodgers just as good as they are, as good
a lineup as they are, I just don't fear them
like I did last year. They just don't have that
air of, hey, let's put up as good a fight
as we can and maybe a miracle will happen. Like
that's kind of what it was last year, or Tawny
going fifty to fifty and Freeman and Bets and everything
(03:58):
else going along with it. No matter what who got hurt,
no matter what kind of starting pitching they didn't have,
they still found a way. The bullpen always came through.
It was an amazing year. And now they're better on
paper than they were last year. But they just they
just don't have that air of invincibility like they had
even in the NLCS last year, when I'm sitting here
and say, okay, well, hey, can the Mets win. Yeah,
(04:19):
but they need a couple of things to happen. Split
the first couple of games, gotta win both in New York.
It didn't happen. Okay. I was still at the point
where I was like, man, we can win. But yeah,
I'm really expecting the Dodgers to win the series. And
they were.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
Winning all bullpen games plural in the NLCS against the Mets,
and after.
Speaker 1 (04:37):
That, yeah games where Dave Roberts at list if we lose,
we lose, but you're giving a game on Yeah, I'm good,
I'm good. God doesn't matter. But I still expected them
to win even though I was, you know, with ever
I was. I was lighting candles for the Mets, obviously,
but like this year, I just I just don't have that.
And now, look, nobody needs the All Star break more
than Mookie Bets, does you know? And and you know,
(04:58):
we talked about this earlier in the week that you know,
you don't know what the stress of the position is
on him, because he's not really playing well he needs
a right.
Speaker 3 (05:06):
An outfielder anymore. He's the starting short step.
Speaker 1 (05:09):
Yeah, the Dodgers need some kind of a recent the
boy they need to that's really good going into the
break end. Maybe it's Otani pitching three innings tomorrow and
they win. Bubby Boy, they need something.
Speaker 3 (05:19):
But look at the schedule. As soon as they come
out of the break, it's Milwaukee for three, Minnesota for three,
Boston for three. Red Socks right now have won eight
in a row. What As far as the fear factor,
that isn't there for this year's Dodgers despite the great
start to this twenty twenty five season. Part of it
is the long slumps for the top three in the order.
(05:39):
I mentioned not that long ago was a three for
thirty slump for show Heyo Tani. Freddy Freeman has looked
really frustrated at the plate and his average has gone
down below three hundred. You mentioned Mookie Betts, who at
least got a couple of hits and a couple of
runs scored and stayed in the game despite being hit
by a pitch on the leg. But the top three
in the order, who you count on to be the
(06:01):
late inning guys eventually one of them's probably going to
get in at bat and keep things going. And they're
the best at coming from behind to win. They've taken
their turns on long slumps. I will say one thing
that made it really interesting in the ninth inning, the
Dodgers had very recently acquired or called up Estyuri Ruiz,
who's one of the fastest guys in baseball with the A's.
(06:22):
A couple of years ago, he led the American League
in stolen bases with sixty seven. And this is a
guy who did not have five hundred at bats in
that season and still had sixty seven steals. Rookie Betts
gets a single with one out in the ninth and
they put this speeds to Ruiz at first base with
a great defensive catcher, Patrick Bailey that the Giants had.
(06:44):
That's the matchup, and he steals second fairly easily, and
the Dodgers got the walk from Freeman after that, but
Will Smith ground soon into a double play to end
the game. Anyway, I looked it up Styuri Ruiz, who
taddled He's still in his twenties but has had a
lot of Your League time as well, believe it or not.
In the minors in about six hundred games. He had
(07:06):
almost three hundred stone eighths. This guy is, to say
the least fast and made it an interesting ninth tonight.
Speaker 1 (07:13):
Now everything is fight. He's the new Billy Hamilton. Yes too, Yeah,
he's the new Billy Hamilton. Can't get a roster spot.
Speaker 3 (07:19):
You know what he can do, and he can do that,
But does he earn his way onto the field enough?
By the way, the Toronto Blue Jays were ahead, I
mean you mentioned that it was eight two giants in
the sixth they won eight seven. The Blue Jays were
ahead seven nothing at the A's in the sixth inning.
They just held on for a seven to sixth victory.
(07:42):
The a scored three in the six three in the ninth.
Came just that close. Toronto does win again, now I know.
Speaker 1 (07:50):
Look, Friday night is a fun night ride. I always
go to the big line from the newsroom with Jeff
Daniels when there was a big episode where he had
the guys he had on the guy that played Toby
from the office, right, they played Toby Flanderson And he
comes on and he's like this climate expert and he
comes on on a Friday. He says Okay, so you know,
here we are with climate expert, you know, Jim Johnson,
(08:12):
and uh, you know what do you know? So we
have we have a problem with the climate going on.
How can we solve this? And he just says, there
is no solving it. It's it's done. Where it's we
can't solve it. Yeah, yeah, I know that we're in
trouble with it now, but what can we do to
hopefully reverse some of this? Because that's what I'm telling you.
There's there's nothing, it's it's over. We've ruined our chance,
(08:32):
so we we're ruining the planet. And Jeff Daniels says, well,
you know, Jim, it's a Friday, so we like to
leave people with a little bit of a positive spin
going into the weekend. You know, what can you tell
us about it? He goes, I wish there was anything.
There's nothing right. It was really funny. So with the
big positive spin being a Friday, and I always think
about that on a Friday night, I want to leave
with something, ilse do that? Sure? And I know when
you say you have a CFL update, it's gonna be something.
(08:57):
And so again, as I said, gambling CFL up now
let me.
Speaker 3 (09:01):
Say, first off, until I looked it up, I did
not realize the Canadian Football League is in week six.
Speaker 1 (09:07):
Oh yeah, it's well, yeah, and they go all the
way to Thanksgiving. It's like it's like a thirty seven week.
I think it's like a soccer season. They play like
forty five or forty seven games and then the top
two teams move up in the bottom two, right.
Speaker 3 (09:19):
It's twenty one weeks and then and then the playoffs.
It's I mean kind of like the NHL in the
old days where we only have six to eight teams
in the league. Anybody, everybody keeps playing each other and
then they'll play each other in the postseason.
Speaker 1 (09:31):
I mean it's been It started in the beginning of June,
end of end of May, right, and I think preseason
games in May and yes, yeah, and I think it
goes to Thanksgiving, like I think that's that's usually when
the Great Cup is. It's like round Thanksgiving.
Speaker 3 (09:45):
Oh here it is November sixteen before the Thanksgiving they go.
Speaker 1 (09:49):
They they they span three seasons and I mean weather seasons.
They start in spring, they go through the summer. Don't
they go four seasons? They go spring into summer. Falling
into winter. That's how long the CFL see four seasons
they play.
Speaker 3 (10:05):
And for the for the record, they do have eight
teams in the league. Anyway, this weekend, and again I'm
happy to say out loud, I did not realize this
for Week six of the CFL schedule, this is what
they were doue for. One game tonight, one game Saturday night,
one game Sunday night. Okay, and the other couple teams
had the weekend off apparently, so here it is.
Speaker 1 (10:28):
That kind of beats the crap. The NFL. Hey, we
played Monday Monday. No, no, no, we're playing for again.
We're playing Friday, Saturday, Monday night game.
Speaker 3 (10:36):
There's no Netflix Holiday game and November.
Speaker 1 (10:40):
There's no game on Boxing Day. There isn't. Really there's
gotta be a game on Boxing the league.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
The league doesn't even have games on Boxing Day.
Speaker 1 (10:47):
What about Gretzky's Birthday, That's a natural holiday. They play
there too, don't they.
Speaker 3 (10:51):
And they don't celebrate the trade of Gretzky Day. That's
the whole No, no, no, no, it's Gretzky's birthdays. Come on,
let's be let's be.
Speaker 1 (10:58):
In some people.
Speaker 3 (10:59):
So right, we're in the eleven o'clock hour on a
late Friday night in Saskatchewan, and they were due to
be hosting the Friday night CFL game. Turns out, according
to the Public Safety agency up there, there are fifty
seven active wildfires in that province, including fourteen that are
not contained. So when I saw there was a delay
(11:20):
of tonight's kickoff, I figure, oh, it's Canada. Maybe there's
some sort of severe weather or lightning or summer thunderstorms
or something.
Speaker 1 (11:27):
No, it's air quality.
Speaker 3 (11:29):
People were at the game ready for kickoff, and they
didn't have enough of a pass for the weather protocol
to actually kick the game off. It turned out they
waited three hours and forty five minutes and said no
game tonight. Oh my three hours and forty five minutes.
(11:52):
During the delay, while our show is on, the Saskatchewan
team is tweeting out thank you to our amazing fans
for your incredible pays. We have, our forecasting models, are
in house meteorologists. We thought the smoke would clear and
we could play tonight, that the air quality would be
at an acceptable level. But the wind has died down
(12:13):
and so it's not at an acceptable level to play.
They were saying if the air quality gets better tonight
by ten forty five, we're gonna warm up and kick
the game off at eleven fifteen in.
Speaker 1 (12:27):
Who wait, eleven fifteen to a start post time they're
gonna start, I guess.
Speaker 3 (12:32):
Their mountain, But yeah, it would be for the locals,
and eleven fifteen kickoff tonight, and then they've announced sorry,
it never came to an acceptable number the air quality,
and so tickets for tonight are valid for two o'clock
to our afternoon.
Speaker 1 (12:49):
See you.
Speaker 3 (12:49):
Then my immediate question is, wait a minute, So the
air is just automatically good at two o'clock on a Saturday.
Speaker 1 (12:57):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, the air will be fine tomorrow. Yeah,
what do you want?
Speaker 3 (13:01):
Okay, So I'm writing it down in pen. The CFL
weekend is beginning at two pm in Saskatchewan on Saturday,
and then they'll have the regular evening game from Hamilton
and then Edmonton's home game on Sunday night, and.
Speaker 1 (13:15):
There is So that's why an update. They don't want
to have these because you know, I just read this
is actually a pretty big game. Like these are the
first and second place teams of the division, like Gary, Yeah,
like Saskatchewan is undefeated this year, top two teams in.
Speaker 3 (13:30):
The West, statue in four and oh so I get why.
Speaker 1 (13:33):
Hey, it's a big game. We want to have its
own window. We can't put it on at night. We
can't give an extra four hours for the air.
Speaker 3 (13:38):
Now they're not playing it opposite the Hamilton game that
was already scheduled for Saturday night.
Speaker 1 (13:43):
No, no, we're giving you it. We're giving you a
big double header.
Speaker 3 (13:45):
Apparently it's on like write it in pen and those
people with tickets, by all memes show up tomorrow. I
know you waited three hours and forty five minutes, not
for the rain to stop, not for like a lightning
delay or anything, just for the smoke too clear and
the games ago for tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (14:05):
Now they have a different way of looking at the
AQY because the anilyz Yeah yeah, it says their AQY
was recorded a ten plus, which is an extreme risk.
But like here in the United States, like if you
get up to like thirty is where you get them
to the four like it's it's top thirty four, you.
Speaker 3 (14:24):
Need to get down to eight like during warm ups
and then we're go.
Speaker 1 (14:29):
Oh, because the exchange rate like thirty years ten or eight.
Speaker 3 (14:33):
Once you crossed the border. Sure it's not say.
Speaker 1 (14:35):
Yeah, okay, so wow, they've delayed the game like three
or four times. They were gonna play, They're gonna play.
Speaker 3 (14:41):
They were gonna kick off at eleven fifteen tonight and
have it still be the one game in the league tonight.
Speaker 1 (14:47):
That would have been sucking. Man. Oh yeah, I would love.
Speaker 3 (14:50):
To know what the network did that was going to
be carrying this game. It's the one game for the
country tonight.
Speaker 1 (14:57):
Yeah. Can you imagine, like, hey, we got a fill
programming for how long? I don't know, three and a
half hours.
Speaker 3 (15:02):
Okay, here are the part lights of Warren Moon in
his CFL space.
Speaker 1 (15:06):
What are we going to Joe Cap highlights?
Speaker 3 (15:09):
Anybody got the Joe Cap highlights?
Speaker 1 (15:13):
We're scrambling to talk to Doug Flutie to take a
look back on his run in the CFL. So keep
it right here that remember that.
Speaker 3 (15:19):
Exciting Blue Bombers, Greg Cup. I think we can get
the clips that we own the rights to that. Who
cares show the lights of the nineteenth I can't imagine
what they were struggling.
Speaker 1 (15:29):
Do you think they have like CFL Films presents like
they did like we did it like they would show
like the yearbooks of all the team Steve Sable, Sure, yeah,
Instead of Steve Sable, it's saying Ryan Reynolds narrating it.
Speaker 3 (15:41):
It's going to be the Rough Riders year again or
something ultra positive. Even they just finished, you know, a
nine and forty two schedule.
Speaker 1 (15:49):
Yeah, but you can't do it in a half hour
because the season is twenty five weeks lost. Likes hour
and a half, you know.
Speaker 3 (15:54):
That is what people said why it was so hard
for the Blue Jays to make the playoffs so much
in the early days with the extrageer eight ninety wins
was really like seventy eight when you came support, and
so therefore they weren't making the Major League Baseball standings.
Speaker 1 (16:07):
One now Vegas has to pull that game down. I
will put it back up from tomorrow at two o'clock.
Speaker 3 (16:11):
That's just strange. So because of air quality, no game
in the cflight. But apparently everything is fine for two
o'clock tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (16:21):
All right, Thank you, Steve sus Smith, Steve de Seger,
and for Mike Hartman coming up next. Thanks to Giannis
and what happened today When it comes to the Knicks
and the Bucks and could he get traded? I could
tell you exactly why there have been no big trades
in the NBA yet. Plus we'll get to the adventure
(16:41):
that mister med had at a concert tonight. Yeah no,
we'll do that next right here, Jason and Steve Fox

Speaker 1 (17:40):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with Steve Disagritt
from Hesy a business man. Why are you hearing the
Lumineers right now? While I will tell you know, I've
said all along Steve that you know.
Speaker 3 (17:54):
You relate everything to the metzer Nicks.
Speaker 1 (17:57):
Yeah, well no, no, not that, but you know teams
that have special seasons, they have that moment of something
that happened.
Speaker 3 (18:07):
Nice squirrel comes on the field, all.
Speaker 1 (18:10):
Kinds of stuff. Yeah, you know, Grimas shows up to
throughout the first go and I've wondered, like, okay, you know,
because you know the Mets have like needed something like that.
Well in a video that has sits gone viral with
good reason. Tonight, the Lumineers had a concert at City
Feel Lumineer's great band. Oh my goodness, uh Ophelia, Oh
(18:32):
Clei Patrick is my favorite song they do. It's fantastic.
They got They've hit it big with j Hey and
Stubborn Love about ten twelve years ago. They've been a
really say.
Speaker 3 (18:40):
Only do songs about women from centuries ago?
Speaker 1 (18:43):
Yes, that's what it is. Yes, it's a yeah, but
clear Paton No Clee Patrick is a great tune. Oh
my goodness. But so they had a concert tonight, right,
and it's kind of a they're kind of a indie rock,
soft rock kind of band, right, that's what they are.
And again, in a video that since gone viral because
the concerence at City Field, they had a moment during
(19:03):
the concert tonight where mister Met showed up, like mister
Mass shows yes the maskot mister Met shows up. He
sings three songs. They love it. Uh, he does inegata davida. No.
So mister Met shows up and they they there's video
of him, and they try to throw him at tambourine
and he drops it. So it's like, okay, mister Met
(19:24):
drops the tambourine, all right, that's fine. So he gets a.
Speaker 3 (19:26):
Third base for the Mets.
Speaker 1 (19:29):
Exactly better than Viente's become on Viennes. That a big
hit tonight. Stop stoping being so uh. But mister Met
picks up the tambourine and he starts playing it. Except
as he's playing it, he's walking. He just walks off
the stage and falls. He hits a he hits a
part of the stage. It's like a big cross where
(19:50):
the stage goes in both directions and he's walking to
the middle and he starts down there and he just
walks off the stage and falls. No, they help him
back up, but he gets back up right.
Speaker 3 (20:03):
Quicker than I imagined by that. And I guess there's
so much foam on the costume. Man hoped landing or
something like that. He's got the mister met has this
huge baseball head, you.
Speaker 1 (20:12):
Know, yeah, yeah, And he gets up pretty quick, gets
back on, gives the fist pump, and not too long
after Mark Fiento's hit a big three run double rights
stolendor homerd won Soto homer. The Mets were down three
to one in the eighth and they beat the Royals.
This is our grimmest moment of last year. He has
(20:34):
sacrificed him that somebody said on Twitter he sacrificed himself
for the Mets. Mister Mets sacrificed himself to have this
moment so the Mets could now hit a big jump
off point for the rest of the season.
Speaker 3 (20:45):
So repeat, when the grimmest thing occurred, Where were we
in the season and how is it attached to a
good look for the Mets.
Speaker 1 (20:54):
Oh, well, you know, I'm glad you asked the Mets
were not playing very well last year for most of
the season.
Speaker 3 (21:02):
Wasn't half way through like this, No, no, no, no, no,
we were.
Speaker 1 (21:05):
We were earlier in the season. We were in oh,
I think it was in the end of May, all right,
and they Grimace comes out and throws the first pitch
and after that the Mets sweep the Padres and they
hadn't swept the Padres in like almost twenty years. They
(21:26):
won like seven games in a row. And it was, oh,
my goodness, grimm it was because of Grimace. Like Grimace
throws out the first pitch, and Grimace starts getting on
all these commercials, and they give him his own seat
at City Field, like where he sits. Like they painted
a seat and it's it's one seat seat that's on
the city field. It's a different color, and people go
there to take picture of the seat before the game.
(21:47):
It's like a pilgrimage, yes, twelve four. It's like going
to Stonehenge, like I gotta take a picture, I gotta
take the Grimace seat. And and you know the big
run and of course that's something that the Mets jumped
on last year, and hey, the power of Grimace. And
now Grimace has a Mets hat on it everywhere he goes.
And there's video of a guy dresses Grimace jumping on
(22:07):
the seven line train and everybody's partying with Grimace, like
Grimace became a thing. And if you know, all good
teams have that right field whatever, it is, that occurrence
that gives them juice through the season. And they were
looking and I kept telling, hey, listen, I could put
it off for David Sterns. Dude, we've lost twelve out
of seventeen, twelve out of fourteen. Bring Grimace back to
throughout the first picture. No, maybe, Now this is it,
(22:29):
mister Met falling at the Lumineer's concert, sacrificing himself. The
Mets go on a big run tonight in the eighth
and ninth, and that's what we needed.
Speaker 3 (22:35):
So, just like last year, this huge winning streak of
winning twelve or fourteen, for example, is going to occur
for the rest of the month, And just like last year,
Sean Mania is going to get win after win in
his spot in the rotation.
Speaker 1 (22:49):
Oh yeah, yeah, Manaiah Montes, Siever, Kuzman, Danac oh yeah yeah,
oh yeah yeah, all of them. It's seven Reno yeah, jee, Hey,
hey talked at the eights, can't wait to get rid
of Separino and the Mets might get out.
Speaker 3 (23:03):
Have you seen his home versus road Yikes? He pitched
against Matthew bec Matthew X met Max Scherzer tonight several
Rena loss. They were down seven to nothing in the
sixth and Sacramento. He's he's two and eleven for the
A's this season and Max Shermer. But Schurezer, by the way,
got the win and things got a hand. It's frit Shermer, Max,
(23:26):
things got out of hand. After Scherzer was out of
the game. He pitched six innings ninety pitches for the
Blue Jays.
Speaker 1 (23:34):
Here, so so things have happened. Now all we knew
was mister met to embarrassingly fall during illumination.
Speaker 3 (23:41):
Really creatively are connecting these two things?
Speaker 1 (23:44):
Well, because I look at it this way, I could
either do that or I could just sit here and go,
how the hell does mister Met not catch the tambourine
and then fall off the stage like he's v Neil?
How does he do that?
Speaker 3 (23:55):
It's become kind of like that Rocky's clip that went
firal this week, like how many errors can you make?
Speaker 1 (24:00):
On one play.
Speaker 3 (24:01):
This is a mass scout who's not even in the
game or in this case, even in the concert, and
multiple errors essentially one play.
Speaker 1 (24:09):
And actually mister met put this tweet out following the game.
Don't worry, I don't Aphelia too bad because thanks for
having the illumineers. Okay, great, so miss we know mister
met Is. Okay, we know mister Mets. All right, it's all.
It's all good. Now. We talked to Rick Bucker last
hour on the show, and we talked about Lebron and
(24:32):
the chance of getting traded, the big ESPN story today,
and Jannis has had a bit of an interesting last
twenty four hour. He doese a podcast in which because
you look Jannis. A month ago, about more six weeks ago,
there were reports that he instructed his team to, hey,
put out feelers and see if there's any place he
(24:53):
could get to that give him a better chance to
win a championship. Since that has happened, the Milwaukee Bucks
have scurried to make him happy. They've given Damian Lillard
a hundred million dollars to go away. They go get
Miles Turner and free agency. Hey, we're doing things. When
he was asked what was going on with his playing situation,
he said, he's got people all the time telling him
(25:15):
go to the Knicks, right, which, yeah, keep telling him that. No,
this is not about the Knicks. This is that's just me,
he said it. So I had to probably got to
be accurate. I can't lie.
Speaker 3 (25:27):
So did he have, perhaps Jason, a response to going
to the New York area to play in the NBA?
Speaker 1 (25:33):
You know, Steve, that's not important. What's important, is what
I'm gonna say next. That's it's not important. It's not important.
Is that. When they asked him, Okay, are you going?
You know what, what's the deal? Are you going to
stay in Milwaukee? And he says probably. I love Milwaukee.
We'll see. That's why I would say, no, no, no, what
about it? Well no, no, wait to get Johannes. I
gotta ask you again. You gotta give me one answer. Okay,
(25:56):
are you staying in Milwaukee or not? And his answer
was I love Milwaukee. Probably, we'll see.
Speaker 3 (26:03):
Did he have an equally said ringing endorsement for going
to the New York area?
Speaker 1 (26:10):
Again, Steve, that's not important, right that, That's that's not important, right,
What's important? Is the is the point that I'm gonna
make here is that.
Speaker 3 (26:18):
Look, I feel like you keep eating a line from
the movie Airplant. That's not important?
Speaker 1 (26:22):
Important right now? Hospital?
Speaker 3 (26:24):
What is it? Is it a big building with the
nurses and doc chits. That's not important?
Speaker 1 (26:28):
Giannis? Who is it? He's not playing for the next
but that's not.
Speaker 3 (26:31):
He has, by the way, three years left on his
contract with Milwaukee. He is in no way a free
agent anytime soon. No.
Speaker 1 (26:38):
But the whole thing is is, here's Giannis. And this
tells you why there haven't been any trades yet in
the off season for the NBA, right because all we
were told by many experts was this trade season is
going to be banatas right way to be crazy. But
we're so. What we do is we need the one
trade to go through and then you're gonna start seeing
more trades. It's a different time now in the NBA
(26:58):
because stars are waiting until teams let the dust settle
in free agency. You know, players want stars want to see, Okay,
who did this team bring in? Who did they not?
Who's gonna be on this team if they trade for
me and they look and see what the best position is.
Because going to the days where they go, yes, here,
I want to be now, filling around me, and the
team says, oh, sorry, we can't fill in. We you
(27:20):
know we we we got you. Oh what do you
may now?
Speaker 2 (27:22):
Now?
Speaker 1 (27:22):
I'm sorry, you can't wait. They were for four years.
Speaker 3 (27:25):
Just waiting for the Las Vegas Summer League to really
get going. Yeah, we signed the first Tyler cole It game.
Speaker 1 (27:31):
We can make an evaluation.
Speaker 3 (27:33):
So now we're.
Speaker 1 (27:34):
Gonna get busy that type of thing. But this is
why is that what we've seen in the NBA the
last five years. If a star wants to get traded,
he's gotta be the bad guy and say I want out,
because that's what works. Because here's Giannis trying to kind
of straddle both sides of the fence. No, I love Milwaukee.
I'll probably stay, but we'll see, like I don't know,
(27:55):
maybe I'll go maybe.
Speaker 3 (28:00):
Often they get to choose their next place. This is
one of every time it happens every year it happens
in the NBA, especially late season, somebody gets to pick, Oh,
that team's going to the playoffs. I want to go there.
And there's such a thing as a buyout, which means
somebody has to pay and the player still collects. So
the players have been in a really good position. Don't
(28:22):
you agree that some people have made this comment that
maybe the player empowerment thing, that's maybe we're switching away
from that. Maybe it's the trend away from that in
the NBA these days.
Speaker 1 (28:35):
Yeah no, because look, it sucks that a player has
to come out and say this is untenable, I don't
want to be here anymore, and that's the only way
they get out, right. It sucks that they got to
be the bad guy, but this is what they have
to do because this is how stars get traded. Because
teams are no longer going to say say, we can't
have to the ground strong with our star player, so
(28:56):
we're gonna look for a trade, right because if you
can't make a trade, you're stuck. You got a guy
playing for you that you tried to trade and you
couldn't trade. The stars not interested in being there. The
fans are upset that you try to trade a star player.
So teams are just getting hold onto their stars. The
only way a star, a big star player, gets traded
as if he is the bad guy, it says I
(29:16):
want out because who are the three biggest stars got
traded in the last few years. Kevin Durant, Damian Lillard,
James Harden twice. Okay, and these are the three guys
that said I've want out, right, and Luca got traded
in the middle of the season two. But you but
when you get to the off season and players have
to decide what they want, these three guys all wanted out.
Speaker 3 (29:36):
Yeah, and trying to arrange things recently.
Speaker 1 (29:39):
Yeah, Luca never wanted to get trade. He wanted to say,
cried when they traded.
Speaker 3 (29:42):
He thought he was due for the Max extension, the
Super Mags extension and staying and he would be a
lifetime Dallas Maverick like de Devinsky was.
Speaker 1 (29:50):
But Kevin Durant wanted out, James Harden wanted out twice,
and Damian Lillard wanted out. What did they all do?
They all had to say I want out. Jimmy Butler
the same way, right, he was unhappy. Finally he had
that this is it, I'm done, and the Miami he
traded him. But it happened with Lillard. He had to
say he wanted out because the Blazers weren't trading him.
Kevin Durant had to say he wanted out, got traded.
(30:11):
James Harden twice has had to say I really don't
want to be here. Okay, we'll trade you. That's how
it gets done. And I hate that that's the strategy,
but that's what it is. Why is Lebron not traded
yet because he hasn't said I want out? Why is
Yiannis still on the Bucks hasn't said I want out. Now,
you gotta say that and then you can make it happen.
But there's players that don't want to be the bad guy,
don't want things to be bad. Giannis doesn't want to
(30:33):
look like, oh, I'm leaving a city that I say
I love. Some players are still nervous about the optics
and the perception around them. Lebron is going to wait
until the last moment until he says, Okay, I want out,
which I'm telling you could happen by the end of July.
We talked about it throughout the show tonight. But you
have to be okay with being the bad guy, and
not every superstar is. But you go back to all
(30:54):
the stars that got traded, that wanted out, they all
had to say it and say, this situation is untenable.
I want out, and the team says, okay, now, we'll
make it happen for you. There's no blowback from us.
We know we have to get rid of you know,
our fans aren't gonna revolt if anything. It's about you. Now,
we'll try to make something where we get something whatever
we can for you. But that's what's going to force it.
Giannis isn't gonna get traded unless he asks. Lebron's not
(31:17):
going to get traded unless he asks.
Speaker 3 (31:18):
But in the interest of another truth nugget related to this,
when Jannis was as so going to the New York
Area team instead.
Speaker 1 (31:26):
Steve, this is not important.
Speaker 3 (31:27):
I believe the exact answer was spelled nah man, which means.
Speaker 1 (31:34):
Not at this hour, is what it means. That's what
Nanny's like. It could happen, but not at this hour
because it was too late. And I'm sure you know, mister,
we'll make that happen.
Speaker 3 (31:45):
So yeah, yeah, yeah, and grim.
Speaker 1 (31:47):
Teama, mister met shows hey, deeps the horn. Giannis gets in.
I'm getting the driver to the airport with.
Speaker 3 (31:53):
The old bullpen cart that could just ride it around.
Speaker 1 (31:56):
Can you even see in the rear view mirror no,
I had to take it out. My head was.
Speaker 3 (32:00):
Would like to see Giannis and mister Matt Bullpeker.
Speaker 1 (32:07):
Let's find out what's trending in the wide world of sports.
Special delivery Steve de Seger has more on mister Matt,
the Lumineers and how that affected the win over the
Royals this evening.
Speaker 3 (32:16):
Yes the Mets one, Yes, the Phillies lost. While we're
talking hoops though, in the Las Vegas Summer League, which
just started yesterday, there were eight Friday games in Vegas
that included a Hornets win over Utah first rounder from
Duke Kan Kaneppa one of eight shooting from the floor
for Utah, Kyle Philipowski thirty two points and eight fouls.
Walter Clayton from the Florida Gators twenty one points. WNBA
(32:38):
just two games. Connecticut is two and seventeen after losing
at Seattle in the late games seventy nine sixty five.
The Indiana Fever winners over Atlanta ninety nine eighty two.
Kaitlin Clark twelve points, nine assists from three point range.
She was one of seven Indianapolis will be hosting the
WNBA All Star Game a week from tomorrow, Go Bears
(33:00):
general manager Ryan Poles, reportedly as an extension through twenty
twenty nine. College quarterback Jake Retzlaf officially announces withdrawal from BYU.
The FIFA Club World Cup Final is in New Jersey
Sunday at the Women's Euros on Fox TV Saturday, Germany
against Sweden, each team two and oh so far. Today,
Spain won yet again, defending Women's World Cup Champs three
(33:21):
one winners over Italy Belgium with a late gold edged
Portugal two to one. At the Wimbledon semi finals, wins
for number one Yonick Center, who swept Novak Djokovic, and
for number two c Carlos Alcarez, who defeated Taylor Fritz
of the US. Alcarez has won twenty four straight matches.
Saturday morning the Women's.
Speaker 1 (33:38):
Phone DJ there will be no escape from Algaaz and
maybe it's better to win with the sinner than cry
when the zincs TJ going overtime for that one. Maybe
there won't be any Michael B. Jordan, but clearly Sinners
will play well this weekend.
Speaker 3 (33:57):
In the Women's final on Saturday, America.
Speaker 1 (34:00):
Off the vampires in Sinners. No, maybe they can't stop
Sinner in the Wimbledon final.
Speaker 3 (34:06):
And that is his real last name, by the way,
not from this country. American Amanda and Simova is in
the final against Egos Fiante Indy Cars at Iowa this weekend,
with races on Fox TV Saturday and Sunday. At the
Scottish Open, Roy McElroy was four shots back after round two.
Live golf's in Spain this weekend and the celebrity golf
events in Lake Tahoe this weekend. Joe Pavelski, Leaning, Vinnie
(34:29):
del Negro, Steph Curry is tied for third. He's won
there before. Tony Romo tied for sixth. John Smoltz tied
for eighth. Near the bottom of the golf standings, Trevor
Lawrence and Rich Eisen who didn't do it?
Speaker 1 (34:41):
Wait, where's Charles Barkley? He was the longest, the longest odds.
Speaker 3 (34:45):
He's actually away. Out of roughly eighty golfers, he's in
the top twenty five.
Speaker 1 (34:48):
Believe it or not. No, he's all come on re elect.
Speaker 3 (34:52):
Yes, of course it's only round one of the three
this weekend, but yes he's doing okay, wow, not as good?
Speaker 1 (34:58):
Go ahead if I could have bet Charles barr Win Again.
Speaker 3 (35:01):
It's only the first rout. Let's not get crazy by well,
but this golf course, state Line, Nevada, is located literally
one walking block from the nearest casino, right on the
border with South Lake Tahoe, California.
Speaker 1 (35:15):
Well, then forget it. Barkley's never going to finish a round.
He's gonna get tired.
Speaker 3 (35:18):
For the golf course is on the Nevada side. He
could just be gambling in between holes, like going back
and forth. It's that close to the four casinos there
at the corner. The Mets, though, have a better chance
of winning frankly eight three their comeback final at Kansas
City tonight, So the Mets are only a half game
(35:39):
back of Philly, which lost four to two at San Diego.
Toronto held on seven to six at the A's Giants
were up eight to two and wound up winning eight
seven against the Dodgers, who've lost seven straight. Shoho Tney
did hit his thirty second homer, by the way, the
Phils Kyle Schwarber hit his thirtieth homer of the season,
but cal Rawley had two homers thirty eight for the year.
Now Seattle I wanted Detroit twelve to three, Yankees eleven
(36:02):
nothing over the Cubs, three home runs for Cody Bellinger
Boston homer in the ninth to beat Tampa Bay five
to four. Red Sox have won eighth straight Milwaukee one,
it's fifth in a row, and Minnesota beat Paul Skenes
in Pittsburgh two to one. The Pirates have lost seven straight.
Speaker 1 (36:17):
Back to you, Thank you, Stevo. Coming up next, Hey,
believe it or not, I have good the best news
maybe in the last year for the Dallas Cowboys and
will make sense of the latest MLB All Star Game controversy.
That's next right here, Jason and Steve ending with a
flourish here at Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (36:35):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio AP.
Speaker 1 (36:46):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show is Steve de
Seger and for Mike Harmon and UH two big stories
to get to. We finished with a flourish here on
a Friday Nightnumber One. The big NFL story this week
has been the return to health of Dak Prescott right
(37:07):
Dak is back. He says he's healthy, coming off his
hamstring injury. He's gonna be good. Uh. He is ready
to go for this season, a full go for training camp.
This is the best thing I can say about the camp,
Probably the best thing I said about the Cowboys since
Jerry Jones said out, We're all in, which means I'm
not gonna sign anybody. Okay, that's all in. I mean
all the all the money's in my pocket, That's what
(37:28):
I mean by all in.
Speaker 3 (37:29):
They had a losing record and earned it last year.
Speaker 1 (37:32):
Yeah, I uh, it's not gonna matter that much in
the win loss record because the Cowboys roster is kind
of thin. But I expect their offense to be really
bleeping good this year. Man dak is back and it's
a different year Already. He's talked about the the chemistry
with CD Lamb, who's one of the top five receivers
(37:53):
in the NFL, George Pickens in the honeymoon season that
he's gonna have with Dallas. Usually guys that have problems
in one place, they go to a new location. That
first year is always the best one, right, it's a
new place. I got to prove myself over to my teammates.
I want to get paid at some point. Then the
other years and things kind of fall back to where
they were. But Pickens is incredibly talented. Going in as
(38:14):
a clear number two to CD Lamb, He's gonna draw
a great coverage. And oh, by the way, we forget
that in twenty twenty three when he played a whole
season with him, Jake Ferguson was fantastics right. I have
a great year last year, but with Dak for all
of twenty twenty three because one of the best tight
ends in the NFL. They're running backs, so Jags, but
it doesn't matter. You are built to throw the football, right.
(38:36):
I like Javonte Williams a little bit, it's okay, but
they are built to throw the football. And this is
the best top three weapons that Dak has had in
years in Dallas with CD Lamb and George Pickens and
Jake Ferguson. I throw the football six seven hundred times,
run the ball four times a game. Only when you're
you're on the one yard line, run the ball, throw
(38:57):
it all day. You're Dak Prescott driven, and he's got
great weapons. I expect to be a big year offensive league. Now,
is this going to mean there's going to be more
than nine and eight. No, this is what the Cowboys
are because their roster is thin. But offensively, I expect
them to have a big.
Speaker 3 (39:11):
Year in the last six years for Cowboys football. When
Dak plays, the offense produces.
Speaker 1 (39:18):
Yeah, that's how it goes right. Again, the record doesn't
really and then the playoffs coming back's a different guy.
But regular season I expect.
Speaker 3 (39:25):
Big yeah, like thirty touchdowns, ten interceptions type of season.
Speaker 1 (39:28):
Yeah, and then ten completions thirty interceptions in the playoffs. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (39:33):
But he's had seasons averaging at least two hundred and
seventy yards passing a game, sometimes three hundred a game.
So when he's got full seasons, I see where you're
going with the offense, at least talking about the Cowboys now.
Speaker 1 (39:44):
When it comes to the All Star Game, Jacob Mazerowski
was named as an injury or replacement today for Matthew
Boyd because he's going to pitch this weekend and be
unavailable for the All Star Game too. So the Milwaukee
kids in he is in despite the fact he has
started just game. He's appeared in five games in his
MLB career and he's made the All Star team. Right,
(40:06):
it's a first guys who pitched their entire careers. Now,
I can't make it, can't make it. I am absolutely
okay with this, right. It's not like he was named
as named to the team right away and taking it
away from a guy who deserves it. He's an injury
or placement. We got a new guy named every eight minute, Steve,
I know, trying to keep up with it. It's a week. Yeah,
but you know Jack Wheeler is out today. I'm a
(40:29):
big proponent of put the people in the All Star Game.
The fans want to see and this kid who throws
one hundred miles an hours schemes last year, Yeah, everybody
wants to see him. I want to see this kid
pitch in the All Star He's he's hit one hundred
on the radar gun like ninety times already in his
five games. So yeah, I'm absolutely not only okay. I
want to see him pitch. I want to see what
he can do.
Speaker 3 (40:49):
I've already heard someone say, so he's gonna start. Can
we see him start? Standing by?
Speaker 1 (40:55):
Hey? Can you tell me, Steve, he's four and one
this year, who's the only team he lost to. Do
you know that top of your head. The only tim
who lost a g know, not the Dodgers. You know, No,
it's not no. He beat the Dodgers druck out twelve,
and you're all right. He lost to the Mets. That's right.
Plank Show is next for Steve. I'm Jason Fox.
