Speaker 1 (00:29):
Greetings, Welcome inside final hour tonight The Jason Smith Show
with my bes friend Mike Harmon.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
So far it has been oh man, I knew it.
I knew it. I do have to say it.

Speaker 1 (00:48):
It's usually borderline in daring when Ty Shirt discovers something
for the first time, like when he's just discovered sports,
like about a couple months ago.

Speaker 4 (01:00):
Don't get me started.

Speaker 3 (01:01):
Yeah, but like we's.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
Got hot takes all over now, Like when you discover
movies that are thirty years old.

Speaker 3 (01:07):
I'm like, okay, dude, that's just okay.

Speaker 1 (01:10):
You walk around going why are people not walking around
talking about Benny and June.

Speaker 3 (01:13):
I mean I just saw it the.

Speaker 1 (01:14):
Other day, dude, thirty two years ago, nobody walked around
talking about Benny and June. When it came out. What No,
that was Now, despite what you want to believe, Aiden
Quinn was never one of the big A list stars
and he had a good run though he did have
a good Aiden Quinn's a good actor, right, he's a

(01:36):
good actor.

Speaker 5 (01:36):
But are you gonna call him a character actor? Good? No, No,
he's a great I mean, come on, Legend of the Fall,
Practical Magic, Desperately Seeking Susan the Great Michael Collins.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
Yeah, reckless, I think right, you're talking?

Speaker 5 (01:52):
Sure?

Speaker 3 (01:52):
Did you say my three sons?

Speaker 4 (01:54):
All my sons?

Speaker 3 (01:55):
Oh? Ah my, I think he said my three sons. I'm like,
I don't think he was in that.

Speaker 4 (01:58):
I don't have any sons.

Speaker 5 (01:59):
A practical we're getting a sequel? Is he back for it?

Speaker 3 (02:02):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (02:03):
I'll get movies that I don't think need a sequel
and shows you really out of ideas well. Practical Magic,
Oh okay, yeah, you know that's one of those things
where where where agents and studios have ideas.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
I got this script.

Speaker 5 (02:15):
What is it?

Speaker 1 (02:15):
Oh, it's an unbelievable genre bending thriller that no one's
ever done before.

Speaker 6 (02:20):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
I don't know, but the script is really good. Yeah,
I don't know. We could write practical magic too. Oh hey,
I got a check for you for that. Yeah, how
about you need How can preag give me practical magic too?
Can we get Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kateman back? Yeah,
practical magic too.

Speaker 3 (02:33):
Let's do it.

Speaker 5 (02:34):
Can I tell you I'm going to go out on
a limb and say this has something to do with
getting another movie made from one or the other. Right,
It's like when she decided she would do uh, you know,
the sequel to Speed.

Speaker 4 (02:46):
Uh goodbye Harmon?

Speaker 1 (02:52):
Nope, we lost Harmon, we lost He started talking about
Speed too.

Speaker 3 (02:56):
What did you cut his mike out?

Speaker 4 (02:57):
Yeah? I found something even more scary.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
Yeah, yeah, I know Harmon's talking about.

Speaker 3 (03:03):
Cut off that microphone?

Speaker 4 (03:04):
Something more scary? You ready scary?

Speaker 3 (03:06):
Yes? Good?

Speaker 4 (03:07):
What Johnny Depp is sixty two years old?

Speaker 1 (03:11):
Yeah, dude, he's been okay, just because you saw a
movie with him when he was in his third No,
when he was thirty again.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
That was thirty.

Speaker 4 (03:20):
I can't know that.

Speaker 5 (03:21):
No, no, no, you thought the Hollywood Vampires was just the
name of a band. No, no, no, there's there's reality
going on there.

Speaker 4 (03:27):
Pal sixty two.

Speaker 3 (03:29):
Yeah, yeah, he's he's older now.

Speaker 4 (03:31):
Yeah, I gotta go I can't do this.

Speaker 1 (03:32):
I know he is one of those guys where you
see him as perpetually in his twenties like you see
him perpetually younger.

Speaker 3 (03:37):
Yeah, I got that. I understand that.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
But there's look, there's a generation of people who have
grown up going that that old guy that was in
the Pirates of the Caribbean, he was in other things.
He was really Okay, you know it's it's coming back, right. Yeah,
there's gonna do a really good another one. I get movies.
I'm not gonna say they're coming.

Speaker 5 (03:54):
Oh no, I will be there opening day dressed like
a pirate. Hey, Mike Leach isn't around for us for
him to do it. I'm going too soon, too soon.
I think that's just gonna be a Friday for you.
And just happened A mosey on down to the to
the movie theater. Oh you hear dress up playing cosplay?
Now that's what I usually wear on Fridays.

Speaker 1 (04:12):
Oh okay, great, you say that like it's a bad thing.
There was a there was a guy that used to
come to school. It's elementary schools a few years ago,
so I could tell the story they used.

Speaker 5 (04:21):
To years ago.

Speaker 3 (04:23):
Story.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
Now because I don't have to worry about running into
him like in the drop offline anymore. He used to
come to the school and he had a parrot and
the parrot was on his shoulder all the time. He
would come pick up his kid, parrot on his shoulder.
Kids would love it. They'd say, look at that, that's awesome.
And he would walk by me and I would go,
who's that sucker with a parrot on his shoulder? Because
I'm bad getting and like no one got it that

(04:45):
I'm singing beastie boys. But he would come in with
a and have a parrot on his shoulder. Time to
pick up his kid, parrot on shoulder, Walk out, bad
pick up kid parrot? Nope, leave part. He would show
up at school not dressed like a pirate, just normal
everyday stuff like you know, Dodgers T shirt, shorts, sneakers
and it's crazy.

Speaker 5 (05:02):
You know those those those squawking green parrots that you
hear about terrorizing in the South Bay. Sure I could
take you to one into a house. That's that The
poor sons of guns have probably fifty of them in
a tree in front of their house.

Speaker 3 (05:15):
Ooh, yeah, that's that sounds.

Speaker 5 (05:18):
It is the worst. It sounds like a movie waiting
to happen, you know, like that's one of those you
come out and unload a shotgun every once in a
while just to get him to move and hopefully go
to another tree down the street.

Speaker 1 (05:29):
That's like that story we did last night about the
nineteen thirty two Australian war against the EMUs where the
EMUs beat the beat Australia in a war. They couldn't
eradicate the EMUs which were eating all the crops because
the birds were too smart and shifty.

Speaker 5 (05:45):
You gotta listen to the whole show. You never know
what you're going to get.

Speaker 3 (05:48):
Oh I love that.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
So I did a deep dive on that today about
the you know, the nineteen thirty find for Us.

Speaker 3 (05:54):
No, I didn't.

Speaker 1 (05:55):
I wanted to find a thirty for thirty or some
kind of documentary, but I got video. I found video
of the them trying to shoot the EMUs, and the
EMUs look really they they look really impressive, like from
far away when they're walking really cockily and like like
it shows you like trying to shoot at the EMUs
and and and they're missing and the EMUs are flying around.

(06:15):
Oh I mean.

Speaker 5 (06:17):
Maybe maybe we can do it. Go fund yourself to
actually make a movie.

Speaker 3 (06:21):
I did in a world where EMUs dominated men. It
was nineteen thirty two.

Speaker 1 (06:30):
So yeah, but look at what we've done with so
many other seemingly harmless animals. Oh, there's horror genres all
over the dam we made.

Speaker 3 (06:38):
They made a horror movie. Winnie the Pool was killing man.
I mean we saw that by the way you did.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
Okay, who else was killing people in that? Besides the
like was Tigger killing people? Was was Kanga doing it?
Were they back to back like Kanga and Rue doing it?

Speaker 6 (06:53):
Like?

Speaker 5 (06:53):
Was that?

Speaker 3 (06:55):
Okay? Well, sure he's Winnie the Pooh.

Speaker 4 (06:57):
But Piglet he changed.

Speaker 1 (07:00):
Oh see Piglet, I expect like in the beginning of
the movie, he's the one trying to keep Winnie the
Pool on the side of good to not kill people.
Over the course of the movie he changes. He's like
right there running shotgun with Winnie the Pooh.

Speaker 4 (07:13):
He was like that little devil on his shoulders.

Speaker 1 (07:15):
Yeah, you wait, we'll find the Woozle and when we do.

Speaker 4 (07:21):
Dude, it was sad when Christopher went back to visits,
all I'm gonna say, yeah.

Speaker 1 (07:26):
Did they go I assume like they hunted Christopher Robin
like most dangerous game, right, Like he ran in the
woods and they all went after him.

Speaker 4 (07:32):
They went after his lady and then he went back
to them.

Speaker 3 (07:35):
Yeah, I'm sure, I'm sure that's difficult.

Speaker 1 (07:37):
Like you want to grow up Bell, Yeah, you got
rabbit and owl. Andy Odd's very it's it's a tough
time in hundred acre, would you know? It's a tough
time and past tough time, man, bad things happened to
bad things. Yours got the Jason mask on. Of course
you'd have to lose his tail a couple of times, right,
lost his tail?

Speaker 4 (07:57):
Whoa, really it's dark.

Speaker 3 (08:00):
Wow, that is really you don't want to watch it.

Speaker 5 (08:02):
That's pretty crazy right now the next level stuff. I
thought we were starting to get down the Wyatt six
wwe man.

Speaker 1 (08:10):
You know what, let's let's let's let's take this time
and get back to the Chiefs teams Chargers.

Speaker 3 (08:14):
Then if that's happen, so.

Speaker 1 (08:16):
Chargers win a twenty seven to twenty one, right, incredibly
entertaining game.

Speaker 3 (08:20):
We got more on Herbert Mahomes coming up in a
few minutes.

Speaker 1 (08:23):
But this is one of those times where I know
that it's been a chic thing to say the last
couple of years. Oh, this is the year it ends
for the Chiefs, right, this is the year the Chiefs
run into the wall. This is the year the Chiefs,
you know, they fall off the cliff.

Speaker 5 (08:39):
This is a yet.

Speaker 1 (08:41):
Yeah, it's good, It's gonna happen at some point. Right,
But I said when I picked the Broncos and the
Chargers of the AFC Championship Game. Yes, we saw it
in the same division a couple of years ago in
the AFC. Yeah, I have a tough time seeing the
Chiefs finishing higher than third in the AFC West. The
Chiefs are still a good team, right, I'll be Look,
you're coming off the Super Bowl, but it's kind of

(09:03):
the same cast of characters. I'm stock up on Mahomes.
Like I said, right, still has a really good offense,
the weapons around them, they're healthy.

Speaker 3 (09:10):
But overall the Chiefs roster.

Speaker 1 (09:13):
It's not as young as and talented as the Chargers,
as the Broncos, as the Bills, as the Ravens.

Speaker 3 (09:21):
Like this is when change. Change doesn't happen in.

Speaker 1 (09:24):
The NFL slowly and over time. Hey, enjoy this run
by the Chiefs because it's gonna end in a couple
of years. Now, you get old and your window closes
right away. It's nothing that's kind of a segue and
where oh, it's slowly gonna do this. No, it happens
in sports pretty quick. And watching the game tonight, you
could see the Chargers defense dominate the Chiefs. Only Mahomes

(09:46):
is excellence and his innate ability and instinct to know
when to run with the football. Those are the biggest
killer plays Mahomess has. That's the only thing that saved
this game and kept it close. Right, the first half
was thirteen to six, felt like it should have been
twenty four six or twenty four to three. Right, the
Chiefs run on and they get that great field goal
at the end of the half with Look, that's the
mark of a dynasty and teams that do things really well. Right,

(10:08):
you get the rushed field goal out there in the
last seconds. That's you expect from teams like that. Andy
Reid coaches and Mahomes like they know how to do
things at a high level. But overall, like they talk
about in college, it's not the ex's and o's, it's
the Jimmys and the Joe's and the Chargers and the
Broncos rosters. These are younger, hungrier teams. And we've seen
a lot of the same cast of characters for the

(10:30):
Chiefs the last few years. And it's not so much
as the Chiefs are taking a big step back. It's
that this is a big time of ascension for teams
in the AFC. Right, you hear the talented talk about
the talented roster for the Ravens, how good it is.
And Jackson is still incredibly young and talented enough for
the next few years. You know, Josh Allen's still the

(10:51):
same way, like I love the Texans are the same
way with their roster and their quarterback situation, their defensive
line of defensive backfield. They may be one of the
top two or three defenses overall in the NFL. The
Chiefs are still good. It's just these other ascending teams
are just better, and they're younger, and I have more
confidence that they're gonna break through this year. They're coached

(11:12):
extremely well, right, It's you know, it's it's Andy Reid
coaching against Adam Gase or or other dudes. It's like, Okay,
these are good, these are good. They're gonna win these games.

Speaker 5 (11:22):
But you just went, you took a bat to him,
you went full like he was ere you have.

Speaker 1 (11:27):
Great now e or you'd cut his tail off, that's
whole thing, like he would lose his tail.

Speaker 5 (11:31):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (11:31):
But when when you're coaching against teams like this that
are incredibly well coached and younger and talented, it's hard
for me to see the Chiefs staying Yet we're staying
at the top. Like, honestly, if you're telling me the
order of finish in the AFC West this year, I go,
I'll go Broncos, Chargers, Chiefs and again Raiders, best last
place team in the AFC West, but still uh, the

(11:51):
last place Broncos, Chargers, Chiefs and the Raiders.

Speaker 3 (11:55):
That's where I'm going.

Speaker 5 (11:56):
Yeah, I'll look at the you know, take it fully.
I mean back to back games we got, we got thrillers,
we got a lot of big moments, we got a
lot of great storylines. Right Thursday night Eagles and Cowboys
and then tonight's game out of Brazil and and something
similar with them. Now, one is a guy got himself suspended,
so he's unavailable, so missing in action is for she Rice.

(12:17):
The other guy, Xavier Worthy gets hit, you know, in
a pattern where he ends up running into his own man,
Travis Kelsey take down like a giant bronze breaker shoulder tackle.
There you go, bringing everybody together, getting some WWE in
on a Friday night. But yesterday we have the same thing.
Van Summern goes down in the with the opening kickoff.

(12:38):
They're without their fullback. Little different offensive structure for the
for the Eagles. Oh and then defensively. We talked about
it all in the last night Find the podcast, Find
the Hot Takes, Find the Fun, because we certainly had
fun with it, the spitting incident, including the second Spinner
when when Dak Prescott gets involved, all sorts of casts.

(12:58):
Two guys down just like that Chief same thing. So
sky is falling. We'll probably flow out of this a
little bit as we get into the weekend. Now it'll
be muted a bit by the fact that we have
a ton of games before a lot of folks take
back to the airwaves, as well as a full college slate.
But I'll tap the brakes a little bit. Mahomes was fantastic.

(13:19):
The defense is really the thing that stands out to
me with the Chiefs. That's that I fear most run game.
I don't know how great they'll be. Regardless, Pacheco and
Hunt were fairly pedestrian also chasing because you watch the
Chargers just go up and down. A lot of scrimmage
just owned on both ends by them today. But when

(13:40):
we look at going going forward and you get some
of those pieces back in the passing game, and I
don't know when we're gonna see worthy again, but that
that'll be better days, better days and better balance. But
for the defensive side of things, back to that for
KC for a second, they surmounted no pressure all game long.
Anytime they got near justin Herbert, they were a step

(14:01):
two late and were assessed penalties or created many skirmishes.
So I think that's the one part that comes out
to where there may be that decided step back. Who knows,
maybe they should have been in the market for Oh,
I don't know a guy that ended up in Green Bay.
But either way, here we.

Speaker 1 (14:18):

Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (15:27):
The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon.
We'll get into the big suspension coming up in a
couple of seconds, but news just coming into our newsroom.
Here sad news from the world of sports. One of
the greatest goalies in the history of the NHL has

(15:47):
passed away. Ken Dryden dying earlier today after a long
protracted battle with cancer. He won the Stanley he only
played ten years in the NHL. In the seventies, he
won the Stanley Cup six times. He won the Vesna
Trophy five times. This when he took a year off
of the middle because he didn't like is a contract offer,
Like he was a different kind of dude, and and

(16:09):
people again, as incredible as he was on the ice member,
he was on the call with Al Michaels for the
miracle on ice. You don't get that that much because
you know, you just hear al Michaels five seconds, four seconds.
But Dryden's on the call, and you know, growing up
like he was the first goalie I remember hearing about
and seeing where it's like, no, this guy is unstoppable.

(16:30):
That's why the Canadians, you know, won the Cups they
did in the seventies because Dryden was that good. But
more importantly, or not more importantly, but something that you know,
I feel really strongly about is that you know, how
much I read, and I read all the time. Nonfiction
is really not my thing, Like I'll read my fair
share of sports books, but it's really got to be
something for me to read it.

Speaker 3 (16:49):
Like the last great sports.

Speaker 1 (16:50):
Book I read was probably The Boys of Riverside, which
is about a team at an all deaf school and
they're trying to win eight man football state championship in
calif And it was outstanding. Book came out a year ago.
Unbelievable book. He wrote a book called The Game and
it's about It takes place over a week in the

(17:12):
nineteen seventy eight seventy nine season for the Canadians, who
went on to win the Stanley Cup that year, and
he tells its stories about his teammates, but it's philosophical
stuff about hockey. It's a lot of the political upheaval
things were going on in Montreal at the time, and
he finds a way. If you don't think hockey books
are your thing, or if books aren't, you read The

(17:33):
Game and you go this is amazing for anybody who
likes nonfiction likes sports. It's one of the best nonfiction
books I've ever read. And I read this thing about
like It's one of those I always wanted to read it.
I read it about fifteen years ago and I go,
why did it take me this long to read this book.
It's absolutely fascinating, and yeah, you get stories about Gila
Floor and Scottie Bowman, but it's more about the mentality

(17:54):
of the athlete and what it feelt like what a
goalie goes through going through the games, and how stressful
it can be and how miserable you can be. And
he does it in such a way that everybody you
can you can experience it and you get it. And
it's not too technical, it's not too much uh you know,
too much that is left. Une said like, I don't

(18:15):
know how he's able to write a book like that
that just cuts through everything for the average person that
likes books and sports books to read. But I really said,
oh my god, this is this is one of the best,
not like this and Friday Night Lights or a couple
of the best sports books nonfiction books I've ever read.
And it was And it was just incredible reading about
this knowing a little bit about that season, because I
knew a little bit about that that was right before

(18:36):
the Islander started their dynasty. And the Canadians were clearly
the best team in the NHL. GI Laflor was the
best score. They had so many great players on that team,
and you know they were all big rock stars. But
he's able to make that incredibly interesting whether you're a
hockey fan or not. And I was a hockey nut.
I mean, it's it blew me away. Like the guy
obviously smart Cornell graduate, uh played in the NHL his career.

(18:59):
But that book, I can't say enough about the Game
by Ken Dryden. I can't say if you had a
chance read it, it's unbelievable.

Speaker 5 (19:07):
Well you talk about like just from what you and
I have been doing on the airwaves here at Fox
and elsewhere for years. I mean when we get a
chance to talk to current former players. It talks about
some of the x's and o's in the plays, but
a lot of it's the mentality that the what it
takes to get yourself up for the next game, to
stay up for a full slate before and get ready

(19:30):
for the next season. All of that that psychology and
this book. I mean twenty years later he actually became
a member of parliament. So you know you've got a
guy that lived a fascinating life both as a champion
goalie and goes down as one of the best of
all time on the call, as you said when we
talk about Olympic hockey, but then actually served in government

(19:53):
for a decade as well. So I mean, just an amazing,
amazing and incredible life.

Speaker 3 (19:59):
Oh piece.

Speaker 1 (20:00):
Ken Dryden again had passed away earlier tonight after a
long battle with cancer. The Jason Smith Show with Mike
Carmon Live from the Fox Sports Radio Studios. We'll get
to what's trending coming up in a couple of seconds.
But you know, we spent last night talking about could
we get news of a big suspension in the sports
world tonight?

Speaker 5 (20:19):
Right?

Speaker 1 (20:19):
Was Jalen Carter going to get suspended? Is Dak Prescott
going to get suspended? They're spitting on each other, They're
spitting out each other. Hey, we could get a big
suspension today. Well we got one, it just didn't happen
to be either of them. Angel Reese is suspended for
the first half of the Chicago Skyes game on Sunday
because of her detrimental comments to the team, stemming from

(20:42):
a Chicago Tribune article that came out a couple of
days ago. Now, she didn't play tonight because she had
to sit out because she had her eighth technical foul
of the season, so she had to sit out with
an automatic suspension, and the Sky decided they're going to
suspend her for the first half of Sunday's game. Again,
the quote is states detrimental.

Speaker 3 (21:01):
To the team.

Speaker 1 (21:02):
The Chicago Sky values the safety, respect and well being
of every player. We are committed to accountability so our
players can stay focused on playing basketball. This matter has
been handled and resolved internally. We are moving forward as
a team. This decision, according to the head coach, Tyler Marsh, said.

Speaker 3 (21:19):
This came from the top down.

Speaker 1 (21:22):
She made comments that you really can't back away from
its stuff that you don't say. You don't call out
your teammates by name for not being players you can
count on, which is what she did in the article.
You don't say things like only one other player besides
myself should definitively be back next year, because oh wow,

(21:43):
these are people that you're sweating all season with them,
trying to win, and you're saying, yeah, you're not good enough.
She throws her coach under the bus, saying Tyler Marsh
has to coach us harder, and if the front office
doesn't get what we need in here, I might have
to continue my career someplace else. We talked about at
the time. It's all completely brand for angel Rees, right.
She has the biggest ego of anybody in sports, and

(22:04):
here she is not even two years into her WNBA reign.
And so I'm bigger than the team. I'm bigger than everything.
I'm gonna say these things. It's one thing to call
out the front office. We see players do that all
the time. It's quite another thing to call out your
head coach by name and players on your team by name.
I don't know how you do that, because that's something
that shows you you're not a leader, you're not a

(22:25):
team player. And boy, I really don't know how you
go back in the locker room after this. We said
it at the time, I didn't think she'd wind up
getting suspended for the rest of the season. It's only
a couple of games and they're not in the playoffs.
It's an easy thing to do. Like I thought, you're
not going to see her again the rest of the season,
because I don't know how you navigate the locker room

(22:46):
after she said what she said. She apologized, but it
was really kind of a halfway apology in which she says, oh,
I got to be carefularkouf of my words. That's not
exactly what I said. Well, you know what, if it
wasn't what you said, you would be threatening a lawsuit
against Chicago Tribune. You didn't even want to own your apology.
Everybody can see that. And we're at the point and Mike,
I'm not gonna be surprised when in the offseason the

(23:08):
Chicago Sky trade Angel Rees because you have to ask
is she worth what's going on the last year and
a half? Right, She's a terrific, terrific rebounder, She's a
big star in the league. But this is something that
you have to sit back and say, Okay, is she
ever gonna be happy here? Is she gonna be a leader?
Is she gonna be someone that her teammates are gonna

(23:31):
be okay with her? Or is it gonna be difficult?
Because I've seen the team the last couple of years.
We've not been good. They weren't good last year, they
were worse this year. Right, and you're you're you're the
big player on the team both years. So if you're
the sky. You're saying, Okay, if we keep her, she
runs the team, and there's a lot of as good
as Angel Reese is, they're gonna have to sit that.

Speaker 3 (23:52):
Just sit there and say, is Angel Reece worth it?

Speaker 1 (23:55):
Even the big star that she is and the big
person out of that she is, is Angel Reese it.

Speaker 3 (24:00):
For us in the long run?

Speaker 1 (24:01):
And for most players the answer is easy, right, Oh, yes,
this player is great. Yes, it's worth it. It's worth it.
It's worth it. You can see the stars in the
WNBA that it's worth it for Is it worth it
for Angel Rees? You can trade Angel Rees and another
team would take her another team, Hey, looking for attention
or thinking with a fresh start the right coach, Angel
Reese is going to be terrific. Yeah, we'll call Kim

(24:23):
Molchy and find out what kind of player. Hey, how
did she respond to you at LSU? Because clearly you
guys won the national championship there, but Kim Molki had
to suspend her, right, we didn't really get the whole
big story behind that, but she had to be suspended
there too. So I think the star power of Angel
Rees isn't something that automatically would let you say, oh,
of course she's going to be a player the sky
build around. No, they will, they go trade her, they

(24:45):
will get another star player back, and they will build
a different way because the answer is if she is
worth it. After this, this is stuff that no player
in sports has ever done. The only person ever did
something like this was Andre Agassi, and it was like
when he was forty and retired, when he let everybody
up in his book open, even Pete Sampris, the way
he walked, like at least he was also.

Speaker 5 (25:08):
An individual player. He could do whatever the hell he wanted.

Speaker 1 (25:10):
Right, yeah, I mean this is I mean, look, Angel
Reach maybe should have played an individual sport because clearly
you know she's someone that Again, I don't know, I
don't know how the locker room goes forward after this. Right,
she's already she's taken on the coach. She's already talked
about some of these players are coming back next year.
The coach probably coming back next year. Because if you
fire the coach and you bring back Angel Rees, does

(25:31):
the coach really have any say? Is a coach really
someone who's important or is Angel Reach running the team?
Like this is what you have to understand decisions have consequences,
and just because you're a big star, I'm gonna say this,
there's certain rules in sports that she's got to understand.
You don't do and you don't take on your teammates
and the people that you share that locker room with

(25:52):
and tell them that they are not good enough like
that is that is not something that's cool at all.
And again, I don't know how she comes back to Chicago.
If you said to me, hey, if I had to
take my money to Vegas, put money on. Is she
with the Sky next year? A different team, I'll say,
blockbuster trade, different team.

Speaker 5 (26:08):
Yeah, I'm trying to think of which grade you learned
the statements of all right, is this greater than less than?
Are equal?

Speaker 3 (26:14):
Then?

Speaker 5 (26:14):
Because it used to be the old all right, you know,
give me some numbers and some basic logic whatever, and
then we started applying it to larger societal things or
what's more important and ranking stuff. In this case, in sports,
it's always been does the talent? Is it greater than
the trouble that you cause? And then in this case

(26:37):
and in so many others, there's also the parenthetical that
you got to decide where it goes or if it's
its own variable off to the side of how much
money does this make us? Because that's why she's playing
in that finale, right, that's the only reason she's coming back.
Forget you know the thing in Las Vegas. That's all
finding good. No, no, no, that finale is at home
next Thursday. I think so fan appreciation, and she's certainly

(27:02):
got an army of fans, and and rightfully so, right,
she's played well, she improved her game all of those
things this year. And even like as I read that,
and we went through the audio of that story as
it started to circulate, Jason, there's like I see on
some very microscopic level what she's trying to say here,

(27:23):
and then it gets out of control really fast. Or
it's like, all right, no, I'm not being diplomatic. I'm
just gonna say the thing right versus you know what,
it's been another two straight years of struggle and we
need Nope, we're the only two that matter. She's old.
Those two don't know how to handle the ball and
go on down the line. There's no misconstruing any of

(27:44):
the statements. So for the skuy yeah, you're looking at
revenue and whatever sponsorships and everything else. Can you heal
a fractured locker room? You only gotta get through another
two games, so you know, it's one more week. Be professionals,
get your check x uh and half half the teams
are gonna cycle over anyway. But now it becomes the

(28:05):
are we cycling her out of town? Uh? And making
that statement? And what what locker room really wants to
bring that on? Other than the financial gain that you
have there. She's a great rebounder, right and she she's
certainly putting in work. She's got a bunch of business
ventures that have been announced or whatever. I respect a
lot of what she and her team have been been
able to put together. But there's just no getting past

(28:28):
this one into fracturing a locker room. Uh and going
in and what you don't have an all star team
that's just waiting to bring you in because I'm gonna
guarantee based on your role and and whatever attention you get,
you ain't gonna be happy there either. So now you
know the the trouble. Now it becomes, uh, the next
locker room and the next star players who are deemed

(28:51):
too old or not good enough.

Speaker 2 (28:53):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (28:53):
So yeah, there there's gotta be a lot of backtracking,
a lot of free product, uh and some way to
uh smooth this over. But so far, just ain't it
exit out about a Fresca exit swollen dome. The Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon Time how
to find out what's trending in the wide world of sports.

Speaker 1 (29:11):
But guy who's been called the Angel Reese of Fox
Sports Radio, don't you dare, He's got his own meal
at McDonald's as well.

Speaker 3 (29:18):
It's special deliver Steve to Sager.

Speaker 6 (29:20):
Man, if that was the case for you, we would
never see you again.

Speaker 3 (29:23):
Oh yeah, yeah, Hey, that's my meal. I'd like that
again for free.

Speaker 5 (29:26):
Thank you.

Speaker 6 (29:27):
No, I mean like there would be just empty bags
around you. We literally would never see you again.

Speaker 5 (29:34):
Smith was given one of those what the the Arch
cards or the black cards? Oh yeah, oh man, he
just went straight through the drive through again.

Speaker 3 (29:43):
I'd be like pizza the Hut. I'd be like he
hate himself to.

Speaker 6 (29:46):
Dust, just injected straight into the arteries. Indiana beat Chicago
and the WNBA tonight by twenty Chicago Sky ten and
thirty one victories for New York and for Atlanta, which
beat La is Ryan Howard had thirty seven points and
as you mentioned, Ken Dryden passed away one of the
famous goalies of his era. That's an understatement. Died after
a fight with cancer. He was seventy eight years old.

(30:09):
His old team, the Montreal Canadian, said he died peacefully
Friday at his home and behind the mask he was
quote larger than life. Ken Dryden in the nineteen seventies
had eight seasons in the NHL and won the Stanley
Cup just about every year. At the US Open, number
two Carlos al Karez swept Novak Djokovic in a semi final.
Number one Yannick Sinner advanced Djokovic reached the semis in

(30:31):
all four Grand Slams this year, not a final. Sinner
has now made it to all four major finals this year.
The women's final is Saturday in New York.

Speaker 1 (30:40):
Well, it's easy when Michael b Jordan gets to play
brothers and he can take off the court and his
brother can go on and they go back on the
court and his brother. When you have two people having
to play a long term match, it's much much easier
to win traveling.

Speaker 6 (30:54):
Just paying one guy on one side of the net
and the women's final Saturday in New York. It's Amanda
and Neusimova Number one Arena, Sablenka. There was college football tonight,
wins for Maryland and Northwestern, victories for Boise State and
Louisville pulled away twenty eight to fourteen over James Madison.
The NFL game in Brazil went to the Chargers over
the Chiefs tonight, twenty seven to twenty one. Justin Herbert

(31:17):
three hundred eighteen yards passing in three scores. Keenan Allen
back with la seven receptions sixty eight yards in a touchdown.
Herbert got off to a great start. Meanwhile, Patrick Mahomes
was two of seven passing in the first quarter. His
team in the first half on third down conversions went
oh for seven. They finished with ten penalties. The Chiefs
offense oh for two on goal to go touchdowns, and

(31:39):
in the second half, Kansas City missed an extra point
kick and missed a two point pass. The Siksey franchise
that had won seventeen straight one possession games with all
those mistakes added up, they lost by one possession to
the Chargers and lost wide receiver Xavier Worthy early in
the game out with a shoulder injury after a collision

(31:59):
over the middle with a teammate. Mahomes finished with one
touchdown pass, one touchdown run. Hollywood Brown had ten catches
ninety nine yards. Bill's kicker Tyler Bass was placed on
injured reserve. Matt Prater will kick. Sunday. Packers defense have
end Micah Parsons was limited in practice again with a
bad back to baseball. The Mets won five to four
at Cincinnati. The Mets today did send pitcher Codei Senga

(32:22):
to triple A and his last eight starts era over
six and a half. Mets still six games back in
the first place Phillies in the NL East. Trey Turner
had four hits. Philadelphia won nine three at Miami. Christopher
Sanchez twelve and five got the victory.

Speaker 4 (32:35):
Win.

Speaker 1 (32:36):
Yeah for Steve, but how far ahead are they of
the Giants and how far back of the podres.

Speaker 6 (32:41):
Now we will get to that wins for the car
Zea Drewers. The White Sox won their six game in
a row. The Giants won their fifth straight, eight to
two at Saint Louis. Giants have won eleven of the
last twelve. They're still four games out of the last
NL wildcard spot behind the Mets. The Reds are six back.
How are the Padres now in first place at this point?

(33:01):
They got shut out at Colorado three nothing tonight. The
Padres went three for twenty nine at the plate in
a game started by Kyle Freeland, who was three and
fourteen and yet through eight scoreless innings with ten strikeouts.
The Dodgers were beaten two to one at Baltimore on
a solo homer in the bottom of the ninth. Pitcher
Tyler Glassnow was scratched from his start tonight with back tightness.

(33:23):
Shoheo Tani stepped in as the pitcher and through three
and two thirds scoreless with five strikeouts, but Tanner Scott
took the loss, giving up the late long ball, and
Dodger catcher Will Smith is likely out this weekend with
a bruised hand, and backup catcher Dalton Rushing. He started
tonight and left fouling a ball off his leg. He
is now on crutches. The Dodgers, the.

Speaker 1 (33:44):
Dodgers or Padres one in September. I don't think either
team is one in September.

Speaker 6 (33:51):
Oh, that's a good question. I don't want to say
absolutely no on the but I do know the Dodgers
are like ten games under five hundred cents July fourth
and still in first place. My two games over the Podres,
Texas might be the wild card in the AL. Guys,
they won in twelve innings against Houston. They're only a
half game behind Seattle, which lost Zy for the last

(34:12):
wild card in the AL.

Speaker 3 (34:13):
Back to you, Thank you, Steve. The Jason Smith Show
with my best friend Mike Carmon. Coming up next.

Speaker 1 (34:19):
One NFL star who's kind of been meandering the last
couple of years.

Speaker 3 (34:23):
You could tell after tonight he is back.

Speaker 1 (34:26):
Plus the we picked the biggest game of the week
in the NFL and give you an upset special.

Speaker 3 (34:31):
That's next. Jason to Mike, Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (34:36):
Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon, finishing with a flourish Chargers beat the
Chiefs tonight twenty seven to twenty one in Brazil. We
talked a lot about Mahomes and the Chiefs, but I'll
tell you what I think. It's pretty clear tonight we

(34:57):
are getting the Justin Herbert of twenty twenty and twenty
twenty one instead of the Justin Herbert from twenty twenty
two to twenty twenty three and twenty twenty four. He
was incredible tonight. You can tell that he's got a
lot more responsibility on his plate. Harbaugh trusting him more,
and not just the big scramble on third and fourteen
to clinch the game where he threw for three hundred

(35:19):
yards and three touchdowns. The first down pass he threw
to Will Disley earlier on that final drive where off
of play action he's falling backward and not only does
he hit Disley on the pass, he hits him in stride.
It's a sixteen yard play. Not many guys can make
that throw. He is back to being the Justin Herbert
we thought he was the first couple of years. I

(35:40):
have no doubt that again. Why like the Chargers for
the AFC Championship game.

Speaker 5 (35:44):
Now, it's gonna be fun to watch how they pulled
the strings Greg Roman with everything at his disposal. You
saw the punishing style that Omarion Hampton can run to.
He's the guy I mean. Najia Harris may have been
first on the depth chart in name that's great. You
gotta fill out a sheet unless you're Bill Belichick, you
don't have to check, but don't have. But for everybody else,

(36:06):
you go through the processes. But you look at the
depth that they now have at wide receiver tight end.
It's a much different room. Right. You get Keenan Allen
back the relationship he and Herbert had re established, release
just so quickly, Mconkey, who we knew was going to
be a force, Johnston continuing his growth, and then you
add Disley down the seam. You got a lot of opportunity.

(36:29):
Creates of chaos, took advantage of a Kansas City team
that needs to figure out its defensive identity, and Spagnola
had no answers tonight. So yeah, justin Herbert for one
game the monsters stat total. I think you'll have some
muted ones along the way where the run game gets
it shine. It is Jim Harbaugh after all. But for tonight,
if you're a Charger fan or you're a Justin Herbert

(36:52):
stan you go to bed sleeping pretty easy.

Speaker 1 (36:56):
From Brazil to Week one of the NFL. Look, the
biggest game could be an AFC Championship game preview when
the Bills host the Ravens. And I will tell you this,
I sound insane. If this was a game that was
in the playoffs, I would pick the Bills. But it's
the regular season, and the regular season the Ravens win
big games. They win big games like this, and especially

(37:18):
with Buffalo's defense questionable in the secondary, Lamar dis is
a Lamar Jackson game. He has a big He has
a big one. They know that need to start out big.
Because you've heard all the talk of the offseason best
roster in the NFL, best ra Lamar Jackson shows again. Hey,
in regular season I will win big games. In the playoffs,
I commit bad turnovers that we lose, But regular season

(37:38):
I win big games like this.

Speaker 3 (37:40):
The Ravens win this game over the.

Speaker 5 (37:42):
Bills Sunday Night. Fifty and a half is your total.
Baltimore the slight favorite, a road favorite at one point. Okay,
I'm gonna look to the fact that offensively, you're missing
McCard and you're missing Isaiah likely couple of key cogs
to this offensive set. Both guys, I think need to

(38:03):
do the Spider Man meme for you in terms of
getting over the hump. But I'll take Buffalo to win
one at home. Although the kicking game now taking a
big blow when you lose your kicker to the ir
mere moments before that first game.

Speaker 3 (38:17):
So there you go. Now, how about an upset special?

Speaker 1 (38:20):
Wait a minute, Jason, you and Mike always do you
upset special special.

Speaker 3 (38:24):
We have an upset special for you.

Speaker 1 (38:26):
And it sounds crazy, but because I know how the
season's gonna go, and I know their starting quarterback is
gonna lose their job.

Speaker 3 (38:33):
But but what give me?

Speaker 5 (38:37):
Now?

Speaker 1 (38:37):
With the number again, sometimes I say, hey, I'll take
the points. I don't need them, but I'll take them
this case where I'm to the points and I need
every single point.

Speaker 3 (38:46):
Give me.

Speaker 1 (38:46):
The Giants getting seven over the command still, you know,
look McLaurin held out for a while. They're gonna get
you know, still getting their guys going. The Giants defensive
line is really good, and they're gonna come in and
they're gonna cause a lot of havoc this game. It's
gonna be much more difficult for the Commanders in this one.
It's gonna be a much bigger dog fight then it's

(39:09):
set out to be. And Russell Wilson beginning of the season,
I'm sure he'll be fine for a couple of weeks
because then he falls apart, but seven points. Give me
the Giants getting seven over the Commanders.

Speaker 5 (39:20):
Oh, get that moon ball All day with Malik Neighbors
Mine Carolina Panthers on the road taking down Duval three
and a half points. We start looking at Canalis and
Bryce Young a little bit differently.

Speaker 1 (39:34):
Exit out about a Fresca Exit swollen Dome. The Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike carve your selfish bastard.

Speaker 5 (39:43):
Here I've had that set about me, I'm sure many times.
Here comes Week one in the NFL FNA coming up next.
This is fun.

Speaker 3 (39:53):
Come standing up in the studio.
