Jason Smith and Steve DeSaegher assess the state of the Buffalo Bills after losing another AFC Championship Game. The guys explain why it would be unfair to blame Josh Allen for the Bills struggles to get to the Big Game, as Allen simply has never been on a team as good as what the Chiefs have had for years. However, Jason breaks down why the Bills may never get a title with Josh Allen at the helm at this point.

Hello, Welcome inside final Hour Tonight, The Jason Smith Show

Speaker 3 (00:38):

Speaker 1 (00:39):
Tirerac dot com help you get there, an unmatched selection, fast,
free shipping, free road hazard protection, and over ten thousand
recommended installers. Tirect dot com is the way tire buying
should be. Well, it's been a lot of NFL. We
got more NFL coming up in about twenty minutes, but
some big NBA stuff to get to today and clearly

(01:02):
nothing bigger. Steve th the Lakers, Well, yes, okay, this
is a very apropos Lakers are back type moment where well, okay,
well you beat a team that's really bad and ad
scored forty.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
But I will say this, I.

Speaker 4 (01:13):
Will Charlotte lost LaMelo Ball early with his brained ankle
today and Muggsy Bogues didn't play.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
It was been a difficult day.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
But I will say this now, Yes, okay, you're beating
a team that's not great, but this is a Laker team.
Now that is eight games over five hundred. I realize,
you know, you keep buying in and buying in, but
there's no reason to once again not be tepidly cautiously
optimistic that maybe the Lakers are better than we think. Again,

(01:43):
tepidly cautiously optimistic that maybe the Lakers are better than
we just.

Speaker 4 (01:49):
Got vandermill bet they have won four in a row.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
Anthony Davis a center, right, that's all he ds just
need a center. We're great, We're in with the title.
Oh okay, big man asked for another big man.

Speaker 4 (01:58):
We've got in.

Speaker 3 (01:59):
Not that long.

Speaker 4 (02:00):
I mean we're almost to February this weekend.

Speaker 3 (02:02):
Not that long.

Speaker 4 (02:03):
We've had a trade deadline in the NBA coming up.
You know there was there was when I was in college. Okay,
because this is what it reminds me of when I
was in college. Now, when you were in college, had
the Cowboys won their Super Bowls with uh, it's a drought.
They were just they won their last Super Bowl. I
was there, you go last one. It's a drought. Yeah,
but uh, there was.

Speaker 1 (02:23):
I did the morning show of at the radio station
and it would start at six o'clock in the morning.
So six o'clock in the morning in Syracuse. And there
was a kid who used to call every day and
he used to ask for Bad English the Price of Love,
which is a song batting was John Waite The Babies.
He used to ask for this song all the time
and he called like every day for a month, right,

(02:43):
And I'm like okay.

Speaker 3 (02:44):
He called, you played Bad Price? Like yes? And I
got so sick because they.

Speaker 1 (02:47):
Said answer the phones when people request songs, you could
play everything. Okay, great, So I answered the phones and
I'm done. Every day call between six and six thirty
saying can you please play Bad English Price and Love?
I'm like, okay. Look at like a fifteen year old
kid won to hear The Price of Love by Bad English.

Speaker 5 (03:02):
This was.

Speaker 4 (03:02):
This was a station in the town.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
This is yeah, this was.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
We were a top forty station and the you know,
we went all through Syracuse. Jo It's number one, the
number one rated college station in the country. We were
and I did the morning show and you can call
all the time, Price Love, Price, So I said, okay,
So finally he finally one day he calls after a
month and I said, okay, I'm gonna play it for

(03:25):
you in ten minutes, but don't call and ask for
this song again. I'm going to play in ten minutes.
And I promimsedn't play, but don't call me to ask.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
For this song.

Speaker 4 (03:34):
You mean ever any other day or I just don't
call it.

Speaker 3 (03:37):
I wanted a minutes.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
I said, don't call and I and I'll play it
for you. So I played Price of Love and I said,
here's music for whatever the kid's name was, you know, David.

Speaker 3 (03:46):
Whatever, say he is a song for David. He's all right.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
I played Price and Love. Next day he calls back,
answer the phone.

Speaker 3 (03:53):
I go, Hi, see eighty nine. He goes, Hey, can
you please play Price of Love by bed?

Speaker 4 (03:56):
I said, dude, David, I said, I told you not
to call again.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
I was gonna play it for you in ten minutes.
He goes, yeah, but I had to leave the house
and go to school. I'm like, come on, man, I
told you I was gonna play it. I played it
for There's nothing I can, nothing I do. I said,
never call again. If I'm Rob Polinka and I hear
from A D and Lebron, Hey, we just need a
big man and win the title.

Speaker 3 (04:19):
This is what I do.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
I say, Okay, you know what. I can get that
for you. Right if you tell me the team wasn't
the best. We had Javeale McGhee and a twenty twenty
Dwight Howard. You tell me that's the team was the best. Okay,
I can get those guys for you. Kristin Thompson, anybody
I still get actually both of these guys four years later.
But I say, if you want, I can get you
a center. I can get you a jag center right
that can come in and play. But you can go.

(04:43):
I will do this for you, but never ask for
anything again, because this is on you. Never ask me
for anything again. We continue. I brought in Russell Westbrook.
You don't want Russell Westbrook. We kept Austin Reez, we
traded Kyle Kuzma. Anything you wanted, but don't ask me
again because I'm gonna do this for you. Now, don't
ask me again for anything else. That's what I do.
If I'm Rob Polinka, I go, you know what, I've

(05:03):
had it with. What you guys think you need to
win the title, I'll do it for you. If you
think you can win. JJ Reddick will probably be on board,
I'm sure. But don't ever ask me for anything ever. Again,
that's what I do. That would actually be a statement
coming from a general manager that runs the Franchi. I'm
not sure that applies this. I think he has a
couple of days a week he gets to run the franchise.

(05:24):
I think Jane Moore gets Monday and Tuesday, Polinka gets
Wednesday and Thursday, and then a d and Lebron get
Friday through Sunday.

Speaker 4 (05:31):
I was gonna say that Dwight Howard probably is available.
If you call it a reality show, he would then
be on it. And after all, aren't the Lakers a
reality show?

Speaker 3 (05:39):
What if I got what if I just got you
those guys again?

Speaker 4 (05:42):
No?

Speaker 1 (05:42):
No, no, even I know I can't bring those guys
back in fort you but okay.

Speaker 4 (05:45):
No, buts available?

Speaker 3 (05:47):
Vladio show.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
Well, I don't know, man with the smoking and the cigarettes,
is really in shape? Can you run up and they're
only asking for eight ten minutes. And I don't know
Eldon Campbell. Maybe he can come back a little bit and.

Speaker 4 (05:57):
Buying them Mike Smreck from the eighties, or canacious Chuck Nevitt.
He could play with Chuck Nevitt, the very tall Chuck Nevitt.

Speaker 3 (06:02):
What do you got for Osborg? You just wait till Saturday.

Speaker 5 (06:05):
Not only are we going to kick your ass, but
right afterwards, we're gonna take cat from you.

Speaker 4 (06:08):
Okay, yeah, yeah, you take big Bo daggas short. Uh
but all right? So what did you say what Karl
Anthony Towns did After the next game tonight they had
the celebrities in the first row. He signs a jersey
and gives to you know, the poor kid, and no,
it was Timothy Smithy Shallomey.

Speaker 3 (06:26):
How cool.

Speaker 1 (06:26):
I said that to my daughter tonight that he was
at the game, because she he is my daughter. You
can you know what you want to see, you want
to get it? Make something look like a scene from
a zombie movie. Twenty eight days later, stand around with
a bunch of fifteen or sixteen year old girls and
say Timothy Shallomy sucks, and you there will be nothing
left of you. There will be nothing wrong. He is
the Tom Cruise of gen Z. Timothy Shallam.

Speaker 4 (06:49):
It wouldn't be a zombie movie because they would move faster.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
They would all forget that you'd be done. They would
be like, what happened that guy's dad? No bones, know
nothing you You wouldn't even know you existed anymore, like
your hat would be sitting on the ground.

Speaker 3 (06:59):
They would.

Speaker 4 (07:00):
But of all the NBA video we see of, you know,
Victor wembin Yama being so nice to this little kid.
Granted this is a really young looking little kid, it's
Timothy Shallome in the first row of a Knicks game,
exactly the poor guy and really emphasis on that adjective,
the poor guy can't get his own jersey honestly.

Speaker 5 (07:21):
Now the cat's defense, the guy looks like he hasn't
eaten in weeks.

Speaker 4 (07:24):
Yeah, I was just gonna sell it right away like
that Paul Skeens card.

Speaker 1 (07:29):
Now with that going on with Lego, That's how I
do if I was a Lakers. That is the price
of love. Today, the heat suspended Jimmy Butler again, Wait,
hasn't that happened? Pat Riley feels like, is he the
dad that the kid just doesn't listen to anymore. I
keep grounding you and you don't listen. This is the
third suspension for Jimmy Butler this month. Right in this month,

(07:53):
he gets suspended for conduct detrimental right when he has
the big press conference.

Speaker 3 (07:56):
I want out.

Speaker 1 (07:57):
I don't trust anybody all this, gets suspended for seven days,
comes back and is late for the team flight, gets
suspended for another three games. Okay, Now he comes back
to practice today and finds out, hey, you're gonna be
coming off the bench. Jimmy Butler left the team. He's
getting suspended from multiple games again. Okay, pat Riley, be
a bleep and adult. Stop with this. Whatever much he's

(08:19):
mo thing you have going on with Jimmy Butler. He's done.
Sit him home until you trade him. This is embarrassing, man,
this is so embarrassed.

Speaker 3 (08:28):
Butler wants out. His future is not there.

Speaker 1 (08:30):
I'm sorry you're not gonna get a lot for him
because he's thirty five and he's doing forty two million
dollars next year that I'm sure he is opting into.

Speaker 3 (08:37):
But he can't stay anymore. Three times.

Speaker 1 (08:40):
Come on, man, you like once you let him come
back to then he stays away. No No, he's suspended
again for a couple of games. What the hell are
you doing? Like pat Riley's like, you can't cut off
your nose despite your face, yet that's what he's doing.

Speaker 4 (08:51):
Give me that, give me that night. I want to
cut my entire notes off. I wanna cut it off
and look like Baltimore. He was gonna cut it right
off right there if it was their evil plan and
the Miami front office to just string this along because
they know Jimmy Butler, you know, being Jimmy Butler will
cut his own throat multiple times and just allow himself
to be suspended without pay. And that's what this is today.

(09:13):
You refuse to practice, you watched out, walked out of
shoot around. They are completely within their rights to suspend,
subspend you without pay again.

Speaker 1 (09:21):
But if you want to make it easier, if you
want to make it easier, you can send you, you
can pay him. You don't have to play him. It's
a half million a game, he's going to be losing.

Speaker 4 (09:29):
So by saying it's at least five games already, the
NBA writers pretty quickly did the math on this. Let's
see that means he misses this. Oh that takes us
up to the NBA Trade dead Luck February convenient.

Speaker 1 (09:41):
I mean, just send him home, send a big message
and say, look, we're sending you home. I don't, I
don't under I mean, it just looks so bad. Look again,
he looks like the parent that says, Okay, you're grounded.
No going out for the next the next week and
a half, okay. And then the first day, I'm sneaking
out the window taking the car. Right, come back. Ah,
I saw you came back with a car. I know
you stuck out left night. You've grounded for another couple

(10:02):
of days, okay, Dad. The next day, I'm just getting
up late, walking out the door, going out at night
and not taking the car. But I'm out when you
told me I was grounded. Oh okay, I went that
happened again. I'm gonna ground you again. Yeah, you're gonna
get grinded, Like what is he?

Speaker 5 (10:15):
What is it?

Speaker 4 (10:15):
You gotta be home by eleven or eleven seventeen?

Speaker 3 (10:18):
That's fun.

Speaker 4 (10:19):
Eleven twenty three. I really put my foot down on
twenty three. The thing is, this is Chris Riley running
this team. People on the West Coast, remember the legendary
stories of how he treated This was a championship Laker team.
This is not Jimmy Butler. This is people who had
had Hall of Fame careers well in progress. And he

(10:39):
was still running him ragged at practice into the late
eighties and nineteen ninety when finally he got let go
and the players got a chance to breathe again because
he was having full practices in the playoffs with veterans
who'd had twelve ten years of in some cases postseason
games behind them. Aside from all that, regular season work

(11:01):
was known for being difficult in a basketball scent, and
we're not seeing any of that in the GM sense
except for what we just mentioned. They don't have to
pay him, no.

Speaker 1 (11:13):
And it again, if it's to a point where, hey,
we don't want to get into it with the NBA
Players Association.

Speaker 4 (11:21):
Because who knows.

Speaker 3 (11:21):
But I get it, it'll be appealed, right, I understand.

Speaker 1 (11:24):
But you can you're still pay you can send him home,
you don't have to play him, doesn't have to be
around the team, but you can still pay him and
you can do whatever you want to at least be
strong that way, right, Like I like I'm watching, I'm
going what is pat Riley trying to prove, Like really,
what is he trying to prove by saying okay, suspended
again coming back, Like you're not gonna run this team?

(11:45):
Like oh oh, so you mean you look better with
him coming back and then having to suspend him. You
think that you think you look good with that, Like,
I don't get what pat Riley thinks he's trying to do,
Like you're not gonna run how the team goes. Dude,
I don't know what to tell you, but you should
have sent him home the first time. Should have sent
him moment said you're home until he can trade you.
Now again, you're not gonna get anything for him. This
is how trades going the NBA. When guys are doing

(12:05):
a lot of money, you don't get a lot for them.
And I'm sorry if you're not gonna get what you think,
but you got to find a third team. You got
to find something happening to make the money work, to
move things around, right, So that's kind of how you
have to do things. But I feel like pat Riley
is just now you're at the point where you're just unreasonable.
And I get that he's tried to do things, try
to make things work. But obviously it's not working. And

(12:27):
I know that he's probably still smarting for because Lebron
and Wade and Bosh came in and they ran things
for a while. He might wanted to make it seem
like he got guys, but he didn't. You know, he
was on the architect of this team. No, these guys
all talk to the Olympics and said they want to
play together. They decided to come to the heat. You
did nothing but answer the phone when Dwayne Wade called
you to say, Hey, guess what Lebron and Bosher coming.

Speaker 4 (12:47):
Wait a minute, war are you implying like when Lebron
James chose the Lakers.

Speaker 3 (12:50):
That wasn't like Riley was upset.

Speaker 1 (12:53):
You wanted Lebron to come back, remember the whole You
come back if you got the guts right, Like, dude,
you've done You've done nothing. You presided over a nice
mini dynasty, you won a couple of titles. Great, but
don't think you were really running this with an iron hand.
And don't think now that this is something where you're
running it right.

Speaker 3 (13:10):
You're not. You're not running things, man, You're letting. You're letting.
Jimmy Butler make you hook foolish. So what happened is.

Speaker 4 (13:16):
No Butler in the home game, which they won in
double overtime without him in a comeback no less against Orlando.
So no Butler in the home game Wednesday, and then
they go on a road trip which will take them
to the trade deadline next month.

Speaker 3 (13:28):
Yeah, but he's out here playing for the Lakers.

Speaker 1 (13:30):
Just watch it, say that it's gonna be right. He's
so ticketed for the Lakers. He's he such has the
Lakers written all over. It's not qualified as a big
it doesn't matter. He's got Lakers written all over the
one hundred percent. Well just wait, just where do they
make money? Move around a couple of contracts. Oh, Jimmy,
Butler's here. Just wait, just wait, Jimmy is so coming here.

Speaker 3 (13:50):
Jimmy.

Speaker 4 (13:51):
Update before we break that late college basketball game, Arizona
hit a backcourt shot at the buzzer to tie and
send it to overtime and then beat number three I
with State in overtime.

Speaker 3 (14:01):
That's a dub right there. That's the call of dub.

Speaker 1 (14:04):
Exit out about a frescat Jason Smith, Steve Desager in
from Mike Carmon. We're live from the Tirec dot Com studios. Really,
no price of love, Mary, No price of love. Really,
that's the price.

Speaker 3 (14:16):
No price of love.

Speaker 4 (14:16):
Ok, Okay, you know I can do it to the
always play all right?

Speaker 3 (14:20):
Like, I don't know why you felt they need to
say that over the.

Speaker 1 (14:24):
Coming up next, everybody wants to know why guys like
Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson can't get to the super Bowl.

Speaker 3 (14:31):
The answer is much simpler than you think it is.

Speaker 4 (14:34):
That's next right here, Jason Smith, Steve de Sager, Fox

there were a lot of people who could deserve this
honor this week.

Speaker 5 (16:37):
Yeah, we could have chose Jalen Hurts. I think he
had two or three rushing touchdowns. We could have shows Barkley, Sure,
what did he have three rushing touchdown?

Speaker 3 (16:47):
Mahomes had a great game.

Speaker 5 (16:48):
Yeah, but come on, there's only one guy that's the
Express pro Pro of the Week.

Speaker 3 (16:52):
I mean, it's not even It's not even close.

Speaker 4 (16:54):
Sean McDermott.

Speaker 5 (17:00):
Has this call.

Speaker 4 (17:03):
Congratulations Cleete Blakeman and the Expressed poll.

Speaker 1 (17:07):
And he was going to give I mean, that's so
close him, Jim, I can't believe that, Jim. So there
is Cleete Blakeman. I mean, it's not even up for
the bank. Nobody had a better day than he did.

Speaker 4 (17:16):
He had a big day. That was that was a
big call. That was a very very big call.

Speaker 3 (17:20):
Again.

Speaker 1 (17:20):
I still can't get over that the official on the
Chiefs side of the field overruled the official on the
Bill's side.

Speaker 4 (17:25):
Well he was walking backwards, yes, it just did say,
and as if either of them saw the ball in
the middle of that.

Speaker 3 (17:33):
Yeah, I mean, look, go to replay.

Speaker 1 (17:35):
And that's the thing, you know, before you get to
Josh Allen a little bit more, it's that you see
the replay and you see from the angle that the
guy from that, the official from the Bill sideline, had that. Okay,
he's clearly passed the line. He has the football up
at his left shoulder, so he has a football, he's
up over the line. It's a first down. He's got
it there. And I don't know how you can from
the other side you can say, oh, the ball was here, right.

(17:58):
I get that you couldn't overturn it because there's no
evidence overturned us that well, but on the on the
call over, okay, I could see it there. I could
see that's where it was. You could see it. Love
the whole system.

Speaker 4 (18:07):
This is the biggest insult I can think of to
hurl at the NFL for this system. The fact that FIFA,
which governs world soccer and is an absolute circus. Has
gone to the type of technology we're asking for to
determine first down or out of bounds in that type
of thing, chip in the ball, a tracking chip in

(18:27):
the ball. That happens, and we see the replays with
the chip and how it looks at every World Cup.
Now did it cross the goal?

Speaker 6 (18:35):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (18:36):
Yeah, we know right away? Was this off side? Was it?

Speaker 5 (18:38):
This?

Speaker 3 (18:38):
Was it?

Speaker 5 (18:38):
This? We know?

Speaker 4 (18:39):
Have you by far the most lucrative and popular league
in this most populous of countries. You haven't gone there yet?

Speaker 3 (18:46):
When when have we ever seen anything?

Speaker 1 (18:48):
And I wonder if maybe this is a whole big
business thing and I'm getting conspiracy theory on it, But
just think about having the technology to make something better
and deciding we're not going to use it.

Speaker 3 (18:58):
Man, this can make everybody's lives better. Now going to
use it? Why not not going to do it?

Speaker 4 (19:01):
Yeah, and this is the problem. I'll I'll buy that. Okay,
we've tried it a little bit and we want to
work at the kinks. Fine, The question is how have
you been standing around all these years and not developing
this and not trying this earlier? Because even major League
Baseball went to fundamental changes with its game, not just

(19:21):
new technology. And on top of that, talk of year
the home plaint umpire is still going to be standing there,
but he may not be calling all the balls and strikes.

Speaker 3 (19:32):
Wally is going to be calling balls and strikes.

Speaker 4 (19:36):
There's still two guys eyeing it, and two guys that
in some cases are double the age of the competitors
on the field trying to place where the ball either
went out of bounds or where it should go when
the play. I just I cannot mention loudly enough as
someone who covers the NFL and has for years, how

(19:56):
seemingly random and haphazard the spotting of the football is,
and yet it is fundamental to the sport.

Speaker 3 (20:03):
Yeah, it's really. I mean, you can't.

Speaker 1 (20:06):
You can't sit here and say there's nothing when yet
it's another questionable call that goes the Chiefs way at home.
But you know a different part of this conversation, right,
so we talked about the real thing to blame. You
want to be upset, be upset at Sean McDermott because
him deciding to go for two when he did it
was a three point swing at the end of the game,
and that's you should be focused on. Sean McDermott cost

(20:27):
the Bills a chance to go to the Super Bowl
because he decided, Oh, I'm going to go for two
when I shouldn't and it was a three point swing.
And the final score of the games. Do you the
sag er how many points Chiefs win by?

Speaker 4 (20:38):
Chiefs won by three because they made a two point
conversion and Buffalo missed to two point cons and the
only two point conversion they went for because the Bills
missed there too.

Speaker 3 (20:46):
They wouldn't have gone for it otherwise, Chiefs, Yann. But
the thing about Josh.

Speaker 1 (20:50):
Allen, right, and there's a lot of questions, say, boy,
Josh Allen, is he just not good enough?

Speaker 5 (20:54):
What is it?

Speaker 1 (20:54):
Why does he keep falling short to Patrick Mahomes? Why
can't he go win one game? And it's the same
thing in this same conversation that we have about Lamar Jackson. Now,
Josh Allen's had a little bit better playoff record overall
and track record than Lamar Jackson. But the point is
the same is that the reason Josh Allen hasn't gotten
to a super Bowl is pretty simple, And why isn't

(21:16):
Lamar Jackson on Super Bowl. Neither of them have played
on the best team in the AFC in a given year,
all right, because we went We talked about this last week.
The Patriots were the dynasty from two thousand to twenty
to twenty they went to nine Super Bowl So.

Speaker 3 (21:31):
Already every other year you know that.

Speaker 1 (21:34):
The Patriots are going to the Super Bowl because they're
that dominant team from your division. In this case, Yeah,
and when Brady left and he went to the Tampa
Bay Buccaneers, what happened. That's when the Chiefs took over.
And they've been to the super Bowl every year but
one went. Oh by the way, they lost at home
in the AFC Title Game at Burrowhead to the Bengals.
So how many chances do you really have to go

(21:55):
to the Super Bowl if you're not on the best team?
As you can see, when there's the best in the conference,
they go most of the time because they are the
best team.

Speaker 3 (22:04):
Right.

Speaker 1 (22:05):
There had to be a Peyton manning because Tom Brady's
going all the time.

Speaker 4 (22:08):
They have the first round off. Buffalo is the two
seed this year. So yes, you've won your division five
straight years, and yes you've made at least the divisional
round of the playoffs five straight years. They're the only
person only team I should say, to have these kind
of five years, including playoff success, and not make a

(22:29):
single super Bowl in that five year span.

Speaker 1 (22:32):
When Peyton Manning was in his heyday, guess what, Tom
Brady was just as good, if not better, and was
on a better team. Now here's Josh Allen his heyday
and Patrick Mahomes is still better and he's on a
better team. Like, that's how you win is by being
on the best team. And the Bills are clearly not right.
Why did I not pick the Bills that last weekend?
Because the Bills defense is just not good. It's just

(22:55):
not good enough to stop the Chiefs. Would They are
not one of They were not the best team in
the AFC. They were up there with other great teams. Yeah,
the offense it held on the offense is really good,
But what did we see when you play a really
good defense? Boy, you saw the lack of playmakers the
Bills at And I don't mean just because Dalton Kincaid
dropped that past that heave at the end, which is
a difficult catch to make. He probably should have caught it,

(23:16):
but it's difficult to stop, come back and die for it.
But there was no threats like his best, like Josh
Allen's best throwing football was throwing a mc collins.

Speaker 4 (23:24):
I mean, come on, they could have Usen a DeVante Smith.

Speaker 1 (23:27):
This is this is where they missed the Fon Diggs
and where they thought and the many reinventions of this
offense that went from okay, where Josh Allen stefon Diggs relying, no, no,
now we're Josh Allen knows to fon Diggs. We're gonna
run the football. No now, We're going to be Josh Allen.
And the wide receivers you have, you don't have any playmakers. Okay,
mac Collins is just a guy. Maari Cooper was supposed

(23:47):
to be over the top guy. He's invisible. And Dalton
Kakaid was drafted to be the next Travis Kelcey and
still he's got to come through in the big third
year tight end breakthrough or he's a bust. Right, so
so far, Josh, when it comes down to you need
somebody where am I going to go with the football?

Speaker 3 (24:03):
One I have to.

Speaker 1 (24:03):
Every receiver has to, every quarterback has to have that guy.
When Mahomes needs to have it. It's Travis Kelcey. Everybody
has that guy, and now Josh Allen doesn't. And it's
all part of the fact that for the entire time
he's been in the league, the Bills have not been
the best team.

Speaker 3 (24:17):
The Chiefs have always been better.

Speaker 4 (24:18):
And to break down the rest of the offensive roster
like that makes it how notable this season was, how
great it was for josh Allen because the offense as
a whole was great. The Bills this year became the
first team in the history of the league with at
least thirty touchdown passes and thirty rushing touchdowns in the
same season. Their offensive coordinator is staying in Buffalo. Joe

(24:39):
Brady had interviewed for the Saints head coach. Opening the
Bills were best in the AFC in points per game.
They averaged thirty one points per game. Put it this way,
that was the typical an average Buffalo game this year.
Kansas City didn't score thirty one in a game the
whole season until yesterday when late field goal put him

(25:01):
at thirty two points and got him the win. The
turnover margin for the Bills this year was easily the
best in the entire NFL A plus twenty four for
the season. The Bills, in fact, after yesterday no turnovers,
They've gone a record twenty two straight games without losing
the turnover battle. They've got the MVP caliber quarterback, they

(25:21):
don't shoot themselves in the foot. They do win playoff games,
but that last bit to get them over the hunt.
They're not as good as the Chiefs.

Speaker 1 (25:29):
No, the Bills are the Colts, and Mahomes is Brady
and the Patriots, and that's just how it goes. The
Patriots were always better than the Colts. That's why Peyton
Manning couldn't get to the Super Bowl. Peyton Manning's not
Peyton Manning's fault, right, The Patriots were the better team.
The Chiefs have the better defense, and it's not just
who's the better quarterback, it's just the entire team. The
Chiefs defense is better than the Bills defense. They were

(25:51):
able to make the plays at the end. Especially these
last two years, Chiefs defense has been creact. Oh yeah, look,
because that's how they've built the team. Now they understood,
once we pay Mahomes for the back half of his career,
we can't be this team with all kinds of weapons,
running up and down the half Tyreek Hull. What guys
like Juju Smith Schuster? Wait, really, what a baffling career
he has had? Man, really, But that's how the Chiefs

(26:13):
are built. With a really good defense, the best quarterback
in the NFL clutching the fourth quarter like no other
team I've seen in my entire time life watching football.
This is how the Chiefs are built. So if you
said to me, Okay, what's the over under for Lamar
Jackson and Josh Allen to get to.

Speaker 3 (26:32):
A Super Bowl?

Speaker 1 (26:33):
And you put the over under for their Okay, you
put the over under for them getting to a super
Bowl and a half right a half. So either they
get to one, you win the bet, or if they
don't get one, you win the bet. I would go
under because we've seen the best of Josh Allen, We've
seen the best of Lamar Jackson. I think still have
a few years left in their prime. Not saying suddenly
it's done. Joe Burrow was sensational this year. What if
he had a defense, he'd have been in the playoffs.

(26:54):
Josh Allen's a bigger quarterback, so his prime is going
to be a little bit less he's going to get
beat up more kind of like Newton and you know
Lamar Jackson's running quarterback. Yes, it's gonna be a little
bit less, but they still have a few good years left.
But we have seen neither of them were good enough
to beat the Chiefs. And oh, by the way, not
only that, but the Chargers are young and ascending. The
Broncos are young in ascending, the Bengals are young and ascending.

Speaker 4 (27:17):
See what the Texans.

Speaker 1 (27:18):
Texans are young and ascending. Like all of these teams
are younger, and they're and and they have great quarterbacks.
Guess what, it's just gonna get more difficult. Like we
could get to the end and say, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, boy,
they were great, but they couldn't get to a Super Bowl. Yeah,
because the Chiefs were always better. And yeah, you'd want
to think at some point one game one. No, obviously,

(27:40):
the Chiefs have been in the Super Bowl every year
you guys have been in the league.

Speaker 3 (27:43):
Okay, that's how it goes.

Speaker 4 (27:44):
It's been set off and Dan Marino had a Hall
of Fame career and after what his second year getting
there when they never got back, but they still had
a couple quarterbacks in Miami back then when he was young,
and he never got back to a super Bowl.

Speaker 1 (27:55):
And you know why, because who was better the Bills.
The Bills were always better. They better defense, they ran
the football, The Bills were a bet. They were the
best team in the end, not that of the Miami Yes,
in the AFC title game they won. At my own
there was a dude are one of this. There was
a dude who worked this is when I was working
in radio. I had an internship at in Syracuse. It

(28:17):
was a classic rock station, and the overnight guy was
a huge Dolphins fan. And of course, you know, being
in central New York not too far from Buffalo, the
Bills were the most popular.

Speaker 3 (28:27):
Team, right.

Speaker 1 (28:28):
So it was tough for me growing up because me
as a Jet fan, I'm going I got to be
at Syracuse in Central New York when the Bills are
going to the super Bowl.

Speaker 3 (28:34):
Every year, right, so it's very difficult.

Speaker 1 (28:35):
And he called up asking for the same song every
he was a huge Dolphins fan, and and uh, and
the Bills were playing. It was an AFC title game
in my I think the final score was like fourteen
to seven or something crazy like that. And they made
a bet and the guy bet and he said.

Speaker 3 (28:51):
Oh, we're gonna win. We're gonna win the Dolly of
the game at home.

Speaker 1 (28:54):
We win, and if we lose, I'm going to get
a Bills tattoo on my ass, right, And that was
just the how many get a Bills tattoo? And the
Bills won. It was a low scoring game. I want
to say it was like fourteen to seven or seventeen
ten or something crazy like that.

Speaker 4 (29:07):
The low one was when wasn't it what like Kubiak
was in the game because there was no la in
the AFC Championship there was a ten seven?

Speaker 3 (29:16):
Yeah that waste and Steve Bono was in to go.

Speaker 4 (29:19):
No, but I mean like we go to the super Bowl,
there was a ten to seven in that right, No.

Speaker 1 (29:22):
There was there wasn't that run but no, but I
mean that was that was like a like a low
scoring game. It was like seventeen ten or something like that.
Seventeen thirteen and a dude had a Buffalo Bill and
I and I reconnected with him about ten years ago,
like on Facebook or something like dude.

Speaker 3 (29:36):
How you doing, man, how you been olimit? Here go?
So of that Bill's tattoo.

Speaker 4 (29:39):
He says, Yep, memo to young people, tattoos, they're generally permanent.

Speaker 3 (29:46):
Don't bet tattoos other stuff. Don't bet tattoos.

Speaker 4 (29:49):
I will say about the Chiefs, and I mean the franchise.
They've won the AFC West nine straight seasons, but the
run they are currently on to win one close game
after another. Don't need to say this out well, for
some co hosts, you need to. It's not luck at
this point, people, No, it's cheating because yesterday was just
for this season, the thirteenth time they've won a game

(30:11):
by single digits. That extends their NFL record, and in fact,
you would have to go back to a couple of
Christmases ago since they actually lost a close game.

Speaker 1 (30:20):
And frostper Come on, we gave Cleete Blakeman the Pro
of the week. Okay, so well he earned it.

Speaker 3 (30:24):
He did exit out out a fresca.

Speaker 1 (30:28):
Jason Smith teve to say you're in for Mike Harmon
special Delivery, seem to say your has what's trending tonight,
including the biggest effort of the night, and that is
of course the next huge victory over the Memphis Grizzlies.

Speaker 4 (30:39):
Stevo and we might get to that. In college basketball,
it was a big game. Come on, man, it was
I was a good matchup and a great result for
the home team. But if you had seen the end
of regulation at Arizona in college hoops tonight, because they
were facing number three ranked Iowa State and this is
two teams, I'm granted, this is the conference game. Now,
I know we can't get track of which tas in

(31:00):
which league without a score card. Each team was seven
and one in conference play, and the third ranked Iowa
Cyclones get beaten in overtime at Arizona eighty six seventy
five because the Wildcats tied it at the end of
regulation on a three pointer, a heave from the back
court at the buzzer that went in and the place
went nuts, and the Arizona Wildcats are now eight and

(31:21):
one in conference play. At number two Duke twenty eight
points for Cooper Flag, they pulled away in the final
minutes to beat NC State seventy four to sixty four.
Home wins for Michigan and Ohio State, and UCLA won
at usc The top five stayed the same in the
new AP Men's poll, led by Auburn. The unanimous number
one in women's basketball. UCLA at twenty to zero is
still number one. Number two. South Carolina won its game

(31:43):
at Tennessee tonight. In the NHL, victories for Detroit, Philadelphia
and Edmonton beat Seattle four to two. The Dallas Cowboys
interviewed Matt Eberflus for defensive coordinator. New Orleans reportedly interviewed
Kellen Moore tonight for head coach. The Baltimore Ravens S
are due to finalize an extension with offensive coordinator Todd Munkin,
according to reports and yes, there were news conferences for

(32:05):
four different new head coaches in the NFL today to
the NBA, Philadelphia's Paul George is out tomorrow with a
finger injury. He did not practice today, and Joel Embiid,
with the bad knee, will miss at least two more games.
Phoenix has won eight of ten in Phoenix. The Suns
beat the Clippers one eleven to one oh nine James
Harden and the lost tenn asists seven turnovers. Milwaukee won

(32:26):
at Utah one twenty five to one, ten bucks of
one eight of ten. Utah's record ten and thirty four
Washington six and thirty nine this season, Dallas beat him
up one thirty to one oh eight. Klay Thompson hit
seven three pointers just in the first quarter and finished
with twenty three points. Washington has lost fourteen games in
a row. Miami suspended Jimmy Butler again today, this time

(32:49):
for at least five games. Miami got a comeback double
overtime win against Orlando. Home victories from Minnesota and Chicago.
Last second shot for Houston got him a victory at Boston, Toronto,
and Cleveland, with wins Sacramento as well. Lakers held off
Charlotte one twelve, one oh seven. Lakers had led twenty
six to five in the first quarter, and LaMelo Balla
the Hornets left early with a sprained ankle. Anthony Davis

(33:12):
of LA forty two points, twenty three rebounds, and New
York beat Memphis one forty three to one oh six.
That ends the Chrismal six game winning street correct to you?

Speaker 3 (33:24):
Now you know the thing is what your funny thing?

Speaker 1 (33:27):
So Caleb Love, who was at Arizona, tied the game
for Arizona. I believe he was one for ten from
three point range and he hits that shot from three
quarters court to send the game to overtime and then
wind up winning.

Speaker 3 (33:39):
That's astounding.

Speaker 1 (33:39):
And I away say it was ring third in the country, Like,
this is a big upset here, and he hits it.

Speaker 3 (33:43):
I'm one for ten, gonna eave it, go to Heaven.
I got it. We're all good.

Speaker 4 (33:47):
We go Toatee and now Arizona, I mean they're right
behind the undefeated Houston Cougars in that conference. Arizona, first
year in the league, could win the conference. Just let's
look at football, right, just let's sun like SMU going
to the ACCU.

Speaker 1 (34:01):
Coming up next, you have to hear the best SoundBite
from a press conference today in the NFL where a
team announced their new head coach, and fair warning, it's
probably gonna be something that scares you and give you nightmares,
but we're gonna hear it anyway because it's gonna give
me nightmares.

Speaker 3 (34:19):
That's next. Jason Smith Steve Desagaran for harmon.

Speaker 2 (34:22):
Fox Dube Ball. Be sure to catch live editions of
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten
pm Eastern seven pm Pacific.

Speaker 3 (34:39):
A big shout out to my boy Cleat Blaken.

Speaker 1 (34:46):
Welcome inside Late Night here at Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (34:53):
This song is for all you lovers on.

Speaker 4 (34:57):
The Quiet Store. He's letting it breathe.

Speaker 3 (35:07):
The songs for you. Cleve Blakeman, way to keep the
Bills at home for the Super Bowl?

Speaker 4 (35:15):
Can I just mention how awful that was for the Bills?
And people were starting to rank last night after the
game worst playoff losses.

Speaker 3 (35:23):
It took some thinking. They never finished. Oh yeah, that's
a lot.

Speaker 1 (35:25):
You can have the top fifty and people are gonna go, oh, no,
you miss something, you miss something.

Speaker 4 (35:29):
For this is Someone of the researchers at the NFL
Network went through all the playoff games of the last
five years and wondered, what is the win loss record
of teams who liked the Bills last night who score
at least four touchdowns in a playoff game and have
no turnovers. The answer is they're almost undefeated twenty one
and two. The two losses are the Bills last night

(35:51):
and the Bills at the Chiefs in overtime a few
years ago.

Speaker 1 (35:54):
What's the record? What's the Chiefs record for playoff games
at home? When they get a call that couldn't go
either way, but they get it, what's their record?

Speaker 4 (36:03):
Well, only in that they're seventeen to three overall with Mahomes.

Speaker 1 (36:06):
What's there every time they get a roughing the passer
penalty that's not roughing the passer?

Speaker 3 (36:10):
What's their record?

Speaker 4 (36:11):
Yeah, just for the record, that doesn't occur generally late
in the game.

Speaker 1 (36:16):
Jason Smith Steve Desager in for Mike Harbon. Now, look,
we spent a lot of time tonight talking about the
AFC and NFC title games. Today was kind of owned
by the teams introducing their new head coaches.

Speaker 3 (36:26):
Right.

Speaker 1 (36:26):
The Jets introduced Aaron Glenn who said, We're the freaking
New York Jets were built for this blank. Oh the
Jets won today, congratulations. We had the Cowboys introduced Brian
Schottenheim when we broke down, just not understanding what Jerry
Jones is really talking about in the entire time. Pete
Carroll introduced by the Raiders. But the eeriest one and

(36:49):
the weirdest one clearly comes out of Jacksonville, where the.

Speaker 4 (36:52):
Guy who's gonna call the offensive play?

Speaker 1 (36:54):
Yeah yeah, Liam Cohen, who remember was last seen saying
I'm not leaving Tampa for or this job. Oh wait,
you're gonna fire trend, Balky. Okay, I'm leaving and then
he becomes the head coach. Neddie did this press conference,
and the first thing he talked about not about offensive philosophy,

(37:16):
not about hiring coaches. Now, the first question was about honesty,
which sometimes can be such a lonely word. Sometimes honesty
has hardly ever heard. But he wanted to make sure
everybody knew that honesty is the best policy.

Speaker 6 (37:29):
And that's that's really what is gonna come down to,
his honesty. I want to surround ourselves with people that
are gonna be able to tell you hard truths, be
able to show you your blind spots, because that's really,
like I mentioned, where growth occurs and when you can
truly be yourself and be honest with looking in the
mirror knowing that that process to get you there was
clean and it was right, and the results will speak

(37:52):
from themselves.

Speaker 1 (37:53):
I mean his press coments like an episode of Curby Enthusiasm,
Like I could see Larry David.

Speaker 3 (37:56):
Saying those things not honestly having honesty. It not honest.

Speaker 4 (38:00):
I will say, those are sentences that I did not
and will not hear at the Cowboys presscott.

Speaker 3 (38:07):
Yeah, but now here's the other part of it.

Speaker 1 (38:08):
Okay, Now, this is the other part, because this is
what's scary, because.

Speaker 3 (38:14):
Liam Cohen was.

Speaker 1 (38:15):
Asked to do the Duvall, which is, you know the Jaguars,
big rallying c that's the count.

Speaker 3 (38:21):
Duvall, County everything. You've heard Duvall for a long time.

Speaker 1 (38:24):
But yet yeat we heard Liam Cohen tried to put
the big bad guide the vaccent on it like it's
Hotel Transylvania. Scary hear him try to say douve all,
dou All.

Speaker 4 (38:41):
He needs to work on the eflections.

Speaker 1 (38:45):
I mean, I'm gonna be lying in bed tonight, like
one thirty, going to bed and I'm reading a horror novel.

Speaker 3 (38:49):
Now it's my land.

Speaker 1 (38:50):
It's pretty good, it's scary, and I'm gonna close my
eyes and I'm gonna hear that, and I'm gonna go,
what happened? Who just said that? Is there a Coaston here?
Is Liam Cone? Is someone saying who did that? I'm
gonna wake Pam up. I'm gonna wait Benny up, Benny
because Benny sleeps between us. Benny, did you learn how
to talk? Did you learn how to talk about dogs?

Speaker 3 (39:05):
Is gonna go? Then I'm gonna go wake Zoe up.
Zoe did you say, Duval?

Speaker 1 (39:12):
Did you come and whispered Duvall to me right right
next to the bed, then run back into your bedroom
Like that's a scary This is a scary thing, Steven.

Speaker 4 (39:18):
It's taking me a little while during the show to
figure this out. I get what he was saying. He
had just seen the shining and therefore Shelley Duvall was
coming to mind having been in that horror film. That's
how it came out.

Speaker 3 (39:34):
Hey, who is who is your favorite actor from Days
of Thunder? Was it Tom Cruise? Was it Michael Rooker?
How about the mat? Okay?

Speaker 1 (39:47):
Now, now now you're getting freaky mal Now this is
what I'm gonna hear.

Speaker 3 (39:51):
It's gonna keep playing over it. I'm telling you you're.

Speaker 1 (39:55):
Gonna be this is now like the new This is
like the new. Uh the Friday the thirteenth kill kill
Oh yeah, with the sure, Yeah that's the new thing. Though,
just hearing Duvault, I'm gonna be scared walking into my car.
That's gonna scare me.

Speaker 4 (40:14):
Well, yeah, you're also going to be seeing twins the
Shelley du Vault.

Speaker 3 (40:18):
Be riding a big wheel around my house.

Speaker 1 (40:20):
That was gonna be standing there going, oh my god, no,
because Rob would the first time ever saw Texas chainsaw massacre.
I walked home so fast, found like I gotta get walk,
I gotta get home. Yeah, because I saw it on
campus when I was in college.

Speaker 3 (40:35):
Like, oh my god. Still the scariest move I've ever seen.

Speaker 1 (40:37):
I repeat, walked, not for this well, because it was
I had to walk across the quad and walk to
my dorm.

Speaker 4 (40:43):
I'm like, I gotta get home. No, no, go to
the chip.

Speaker 2 (40:47):
No, I just went.

Speaker 4 (40:48):
I went straight up right into the room, lock the door,
going Okay, no one's getting in, No one's getting in.

Speaker 3 (40:53):
Scary. Man telling you, stew vault thing is scary.

Speaker 4 (40:56):
They got to use that clip stadium next season in
baby Face and Duke Wall coming up next. My buddy
