So we got Mark Stein coming up NBA Inside in
a few minutes. Latest on the Lakers. How awkward is
it going to be? For Lebron's return, John Moran suspension,
ah welcoming Mark steinback and for the great year of

(01:10):
NBA talk with him. But to continue our conversation from
a few minutes ago, right, and we'll get to a
big hot take off of Thursday Night Football. And yes
there was a hot take even though the game was
ten to seven, and it was absolutely fantastic. So Denver's
eight and two. Are they great?

Speaker 3 (01:27):
No?

Speaker 1 (01:28):
And you would think I would take this moment to
say Denver's great. I told you they're going to the
AFC Championship minute pick them before the season and go
to the AFC title game. You would think I would
take every opportunity now to say, hey, look where I am,
best record in the af No, that's they're going.

Speaker 4 (01:40):
That's the thing, right, is that this is a being
an honesty seller here of you've got a great pick
for them, that is live and you hate them.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
Yeah, yeah, they're just I would tell you if I
thought they were great, they're not. They have a terrific
defense and boy, will really get into bon Nicks in
a few minutes. But if you said, okay, there's no
great teams in the NFL right now, there's no. Usually
by now we have two or three teams that have
separated themselves. We say, okay, going to the last half

(02:12):
of the season, these are the teams to beat on
any given Sunday on a neutral field, they will beat
just about everybody in the NFL. There's nobody like that
right now. But in a month, who can be those teams? Right?
A few minutes ago, I gave you the Bills in
the AFC, he gave us the Ravens. They get the Jets.

(02:32):
Anybody plays the Jets. We have a chance we play
the Jets. Yeah, I mean with the Ravens.

Speaker 4 (02:35):
I'm looking at the longer picture and coming a bit
off the board.

Speaker 1 (02:39):
Right.

Speaker 4 (02:39):
We talked about the Super Bowl odds earlier in the show,
where we've got Kansas City in Buffalo. All that early
money is just sitting there. So there's still the favorites
as we sit here, even with Wartz.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
Yeah oh yeah. So if you go to the NFC,
the team I expect to say, Okay, who's the best
team in the NFC over the course of the next month,
And I'm giving the Rams. The Rams have already started
better than I expected, because normally the Rams start terribly
and then they make a huge run the last half
of the year to say, hey, look we're the best
team in the NFL. We just don't have the record.

(03:11):
We're playing on the road in the NFC Championship. Oh man,
we should have beat the Eagles. But from the beginning
of the year this year, you can tell it was
a little bit of a different Rams team. They were
more focused. They won games early. You can say that
they might be one or two special teams plays away
from being undefeated. You can also say, well, if ad
Ni Mitchell holds onto the football crossing the goal line,

(03:33):
he's still a cult and not a Jet and it's
another loss of the Rams. But the Rams defense, when
we talk about the Broncos defense, how good it is
the Rams defense is that good? The Rams offense can
win any kind of game. They can bludget you running
the football. They can throw the football on you. Doesn't
matter if Kien Williams is running the football or if
it's Eric Dickerson. Whoever comes steps in for the Rams

(03:54):
runs the football well. Now, with Devonte Adams being another
huge weapon, the number two behind pout Gonakua, who is
hopefully be able to play this week, they win with Nikua,
they win without him. Over the course of the next month,
I expect the Rams to step to the front. And
we're getting into the middle of December and we're saying
or the beginning part of December, we're saying, hey, man,
the Rams should be in the Super Bowl. They are

(04:16):
this good. They are a complete football team, and I
have confidence every week that Sean McVay is gonna out
coach whoever's on the other side of him. So if
you say to me in a month, who can be
that team? The Rams quite aren't there yet, But a
month I expect to be the.

Speaker 4 (04:29):
Rams eight and a half to one. As we sit
here today, you know the balance that you're looking for.
And obviously that defensive front went into the trade market,
tried to bolster things in that secondary where they were
picked on a little bit, and that's where you know
there's still some proving ground to be had. But to
your point, Matthew Stafford's been fantastic. I don't think we've
said enough about him, all right, There's too many guys

(04:50):
that we've had problems with that have sucked out all
the oxygen, either for injury issues, stuff like Gino tonight
or whence a couple of weeks ago.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
It's like, why is this I still out here? Why
are we doing this?

Speaker 4 (05:02):
Like those stories have trumped what Matthew Stafford's been able
to do so. He's been fantastic for them. Tampa's been
a great story the year of living dangerously early on
second half of the year. Do they get and stay healthy? Like,
that's just a giant enigma as we look at them.

(05:24):
If I wanted to go bold, I'd say, you've got
four up and four down in terms of our our
tracker of good, good and bad teams. I'm very hopeful
that we get good football from the Cowboys. Now that's
all wishing and hoping. Yeah, but the idea that they
are viable come December first would be great for the
National Footballs because Jerry would start taking victory laps. The

(05:50):
Jets would have shown, Hey, we got rid of a
guy who became a difference maker.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
Oh, I know that. Look, I fully expect Quinn Williams
to play well with the Cowboys. He's him to play
better for the Cowboys and Sauce Gardener with the Colts.
Becausauce is not the same player. He's on a three
year decline. But quinnin Williams still in the middle of
his prime. He wanted to leave. He's gonna play the
last half of the season like his hair is on fire.
He's a plug and play guy. He was a All

(06:14):
Pro couple of years ago. He's still a Pro Bowl
caliber player. You can you can rip the Cowboys for
what they've done in the past. I get it, but
all that stuff is not coming back. Did they overpay
on Tuesday for Quinn Wiams. Yeah, but he's a guy
that's gonna come in and be a huge difference maker
on the defensive. I'm just gonna look at it for
the second half of this season. And again, you know
when we talk about the plus minus where you are

(06:37):
record wise and expectations going forward on their schedule. At
Las Vegas, all right, that's got to be a win.

Speaker 3 (06:45):
Yep.

Speaker 4 (06:45):
Although you thought they were gonna beat Arizona. Then you
got Philadelphia. Philadelphia at home, No great shakes there. Kansas
City has its warts, get winnable game. Detroit. We've talked
about Detroit frustrating Herky Jerky in terms of their production. Minnesota, Okay,

(07:06):
JJ McCarthy. Now everybody's pulling all the locker room things
and wondering if the guy is just a great actor.

Speaker 1 (07:13):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (07:13):
And then the final three games of the season, you
got Washington, you got the Giants, but ahead of them,
you got a date at home with the Chargers, who
we like and assuming they're healthy. But the defensive line
is tough. That's a tough schedule, man, that that's tough
to say, Hey, no, but but but it's but it's
a lot of teams that are beatable, is my point.
It's like there's not four games, right, you say l

(07:33):
L y l L. So to that end, I'm going
for a bit of a price shot up. We're talking viable.
Are we talking super Bowl? No, but we're talking a
team that could make some noise and get a little
bit and make things a little crazy in the NFC.

Speaker 1 (07:47):
I never told you everybody had to just chill the
blank out. I'd get it going. And I did. Did
I tell you I got it? We got in, We
got in the Williams kid and uh, I'm gonna go
get more players now before or the end of the year.
But Joey, the trade deadline is over. No, no, it's
been extended specifically for me to be able to bring
in whoever else I need. So I'm gonna go get

(08:08):
the rest of the good players on the Jets. Is
only a couple and then make another couple of deals too. Well,
this works like that guillotine league.

Speaker 4 (08:14):
Right, every week I can go into free agency and
waiver wire and go find guys.

Speaker 1 (08:18):
When teams get eliminated, I could just pluck anybody. Pluck
anybody off of the wire, right and so so so
and so gets like the Jets are eliminated, Titans are eliminated.
I could just go get anybody, right, come on the
team that That's that's what Steven told me how those
guillotine leagues work.

Speaker 4 (08:32):
Yeah, clearly they're two hundred to one for Super Bowl odds.
I'm not bold enough to to try to push that
narrative on you. Detroit would be the team that that
stands out obviously first and foremost. I have no idea,
like are the Falcons ever gonna figure anything out?

Speaker 5 (08:49):
No?

Speaker 1 (08:50):
But the division stinks? Yeah, that's true, right, does think?

Speaker 4 (08:53):
I mean you're you're still looking at what Carolina and
Tampa are week to week?

Speaker 1 (09:00):
How good are they?

Speaker 3 (09:01):
Right?

Speaker 4 (09:01):
Because even Tampa winning those games early on, it was
all a lot of hero ball late. Doesn't change that
they got the w's, But it wasn't as clean and
easy as it might look when you just look at
the cold hard stats of the standings. Much like we
were talking about with the Denver Broncos.

Speaker 1 (09:17):
Now for bo Nicks, really quick, This was another ok
game for bon Knicks in a six week span in
which most of his games have been okay at best.
He really is making a living this year off of
two games, two big games. But he's making his living
off of two big games. The last six weeks, he's

(09:38):
been somewhat ordinary now. The picky threw in the second
half tonight not his fault because it bounces off Franklin
shoulder pads when he's wide open. But overall boon Knicks
hasn't quite been the same and he definitely seems a
little bit more quicker to leave the pocket. He is
not quite as accurate as last two games under fifty

(09:59):
percent complete percentage. He's not been great now for the
look the better part of the better half of this year.
Coming into this year, he was supposed to be terrific,
and we heard about how much Sean Payton loveshim and
certainly had a really good rookie year. But boy, these
last six weeks, I watch and I go, he seems
like a guy that in the NFL they saw him
as a rookie. First four games of this year, and

(10:21):
now the league is getting used to him a little bit,
Like he seems to me like he's gonna wind up
being the new Joe Flacco, where for ten years we
had the is Joe Flacco elite? Is Joe Flacco elite?
We're gonna do the same thing. Is bow Nick's elite,
And he's gonna have his defenders and he's gonna have
his detractors where it's gonna say, yeah, the guy's just
been okay for the better part of half the season.
You were going from is Joe Flacco elite? Uh? For

(10:43):
ten years and now ten years of his bow Nick's elite.

Speaker 4 (10:46):
That's well, he gets fun in that we get into
those discussions of his winning enough, right, some of the
arguments that's being had with Jalen Hurts still and even
if you look at his numbers right now, was he
fifteen touchdowns against one pick? Yeah, he's been terrific. Yeah,
because the offense sputtered a bunch, and you did you
know AJ Brown's unhappy and Saquon Barkley's not running for

(11:07):
three hundred yards a week. Everybody starts doing all their
hand ringing. They got a half a season to figure
it out. But for bow Nixon company, right now, they're
being carried by the defense. How long is that sustainable?
Can you keep winning close games? Because that's they did today.
Some survive in advance, Right, Carlson misses that field goal,
you make just enough plays to not end it. But

(11:29):
his numbers seventeen touchdowns against six picks. That's a nice
ratio about two thousand total yards. But most of that
damage coming against Cincinnati and Dallas. Look, you can only
play who's on the schedule, and they're winning games. So
for Sean Payton, I would hope, and I'm sure Denver
fans are all wringing their hands, going, we're gonna figure

(11:49):
this out, right, this offense is gonna give us a
little way halfway through the season.

Speaker 1 (11:54):
We're gonna figure this.

Speaker 4 (11:55):
We talked about it earlier, right the graphic, they had
longest winning streak since twenty fifth when Peyton Manning was there.
It's only appropriate because that offense outside of Damarius Thomas stunk.

Speaker 1 (12:06):
Yeah, I mean, I just I just don't know if
bo Nicks really is this good, Like seeing did hit
did he hit his ceiling? And this is kind of
who he is, Like I gotta see more from if
he's gonna be anointed. Hey, he's the next great Super
Bowl winning quarterback. That's okay, I'll start talking about Drake
maymore for you. I got to see him beat a
good team and not play the easiest schedule in the

(12:29):
last ten years in the NFL winning percentage of the
rest of the teams for the Patriots zero three fifty eight.
It doesn't get any harder for New England, you know
it does not. Great exit out about a Fresco exit

Put that hot dog gun to work. So we are
less than twenty four hours away from NBA Cup Action.
Oh yeah, let's go easy floors, which is really the

(14:59):
best part that the floors look so crazy. Yeah, it's
kind of cool. Big first couple of weeks in the NBA.
Nobody better to break it all down with Welcome back
another year with us here on Fox Sports Radio. Longtime
NBA insider check him out at the Steinline on Twitter.
That's at the Steinline. Also on substack it is Mark

(15:19):
Stein Mark. What's happening man? How are you?

Speaker 3 (15:22):
If there's nobody better? Why am I only hearing from
you guys in the third week of the season.

Speaker 1 (15:28):
Well, because we we kind of had football in the
World series going on, Mark, it was kind of a thing.

Speaker 3 (15:33):
And didn't you guys just play football music? Was that
football music?

Speaker 4 (15:39):
Don't listen, Mark, blame the guy behind the curtain.

Speaker 1 (15:46):
It was a football game to Mark. Mark, you should
see Alex Eyes just got really wide with like, well,
wait a minute, I played the rock music. Oh my goodness, we.

Speaker 3 (15:55):
Are off to a roaring start.

Speaker 1 (15:57):
Jason, introduce him again. All right, a right, here you go,
joining us now the hot line, longtime NBA insider, nobody better.
He is on Twitter at the Steinline. Check him out
on substack as well. It is Mark Stein. Here we go.

Speaker 2 (16:11):
How's that? Wow?

Speaker 3 (16:17):
Did I get traded to TNC?

Speaker 2 (16:24):
It's good to be with you guys.

Speaker 3 (16:25):
Enough jokes, enough part.

Speaker 1 (16:28):
Oh you as well? Man. So listen. Here we are
beginning of the season, and we said last night, look
probably game of the year so far. We had the
Spurs and the Lakers. We had the craziness at the end.
And look, seven and two is seven and two for
the Lakers. Now going forward, we've seen Luca play fantastic,
Austin Reeves plays fantastic. Lebron's not going to be back

(16:50):
for a while. What happens when Lebron does come back?
Marcuse you come out and as the option number three?
Is it going to be awkward at all, what do
you think is going on?

Speaker 3 (17:00):
I mean, I think they're going to be a much
better team. I mean, they've already won a couple games
that have us all scratching our heads. How did they
do this without Luca? They won a game without Luca
and Reeves. I was actually there last night. I would
not put it in Game of the season discussion because guys,
it was a three hour game with all the fouls

(17:20):
and it did not go to overtime. Despite despite the
stepping over the end line on the inbounds that would
have haunted Marcus Smart for a long time, the Spurs
would have found a way to steal that win. But
I mean that was that was a long slog of
a game. But no, I'm I look, I thought coming

(17:43):
into this season, I mean I knew Luca was going
to be a monster. I saw him in year, I
saw him in the summer before EuroBasket. Now he's he's playing.
I mean, I'm not going to sit here and tell
you that I saw forty ten and ten or whatever
his across the more numbers are right now. But I

(18:04):
mean I think you know Reeves has you know, played
so well next to him and also without him that,
like I have to you know, I have to think
Lebron is itching to get back and to see what
this team can do. Now, can can they win as
currently constructed? I mean, it's such a weird deal in

(18:28):
the NBA because we talk so much about how stacked
the West is, and it is ridiculously stacked, and yet
the Thunder are just so deep and seemingly just so
much stronger than everyone else, and the rest of the
West is chasing them. And even even last night, on

(18:49):
the second night of a back to back, missing key guys,
the Thunder still outshot and out remounted Portland and you know,
might have been able to steal a win and keep
their unbeaten start going. So can the Lakers contend as
currently constructed? They probably don't have enough to make that

(19:12):
kind of playoff run. But are they going to win
fifty plus games the way Luca is playing and eventually
adding Lebron back? I do think.

Speaker 4 (19:22):
So we're eight games into the new era there in Dallas.
What do you make of Cooper flag thus far?

Speaker 1 (19:28):
Mark?

Speaker 3 (19:30):
I mean, it's been a really rough situation to walk
into and that's you know, that is not the way
it was builed was how lucky Cooper flag is they
have Anthony Davis. Obviously Kyrie was not gonna be healthy
enough to start the season after a March knee injury,
but all the talk was the pressures off, he's going

(19:53):
to be He's on a team that can be competitive. Now,
this is such a great opportunity for the number one
overall pick, who doesn't normally walk into situations like that.
And you really feel for him because the MAVs have
gotten off to a terrible start and it is a
pressure packed situation filled with tension. I mean, they have

(20:18):
the worst record in the Western Conference. They've played almost
exclusively at home to this point. They've had six home
games and a neutral site game in Mexico City. They've
only played one real road game to this point. And
you know now they're going to start playing some games
away from Dallas. It has just been there is fan

(20:40):
anger is dialed back up to where it was, you
know after the Luca trade.

Speaker 1 (20:45):
Wow, really it's that bad?

Speaker 3 (20:48):
And yeah, and it's and and so like again, Cooper Flaggs,
you know, he's walked into this situation, none of it
of his own making. And I think you heard him
at the podium on I mean they're playing New Orleans
has no zion. New Orleans is on the second night
of a back to back, and the MAVs fall behind early.

(21:10):
They're playing ketchup all night, and you know, Cooper Flag
did have a shot that could have forced ot or
you know that he has the last chance doesn't go down.
And you heard him after the game talking and it's like,
you know, he's said, you know, this is more losing
than he's ever experienced in his life. I think college,

(21:31):
high school and college. I think he lost eight games combined.
The MAVs were an Aaron Neith Smith wide open wing
three away from starting one in seven. Indiana, even with
all their injuries, almost came into Dallas and beat the MAVs.
So it's it has been a very difficult situation to

(21:54):
walk into. But look, he's he's a he's you watch
him and you were he's He's only eighteen, and had
he been born ten eleven days later, he wouldn't have
even been draft eligible. He is an incredible athlete. He's
already a good finisher. But yeah, I mean, hit'spin you know,

(22:16):
this franchise, It's not just being the number one pick
this whole franchise, top to bottom is under a microscope
right now, and so he's he's got to learn how
to adjust to that and deal with that.

Speaker 1 (22:31):
NBA insider Mark Stein, our guest Jason Smith Mike Harmon
live from the Fox Sports Radio studios. All right, so
you mentioned the Thunder and how well they look and
how good they look so far. I don't think anybody
is surprised about You look at the Eastern Conference and
you see that team at the top of the Chicago Bulls.
Was this just a good start? Are you buying them?
Where are you on the Bulls?

Speaker 2 (22:52):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (22:52):
You know, I guess it just depends what you mean
by buying them. Can they you know, they've been stuck
in this red mill of playing playing, playing, and you know,
win high thirties and losing the playing Like, will they
be better than that?

Speaker 2 (23:07):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (23:07):
I think they. I mean, the East is so wide
open that the opportunity is there for them. But like
they they're they're playing a fun style of fast style.
They have a lot of depth. Josh Giddy has been
as good as we've ever seen him. Vucevic is, you know,

(23:27):
still a very productive center in the East. I mean
last season, he was a borderline All Star. I mean,
he's playing in an All star level right now. Can
they win forty five ish and be a playoff team? Yeah,
they can't. You know, they have continuity, and especially early
in the season, that pays off. We haven't even seen

(23:49):
Kobe White yet. You know last season, Kobe White and
Josh Getty, they were very good in the second half
of the season, and the Bulls were hoping, you know
that Bulls really wanted to see is that going to continue?
You know, they've been doing this without Kobe White, who
started the season with a calf injury. So they have
a lot going on and there they are in the
right conference like that. That obviously helps because you know,

(24:15):
even even the teams that we thought were in good
shape to start the season, the Calves and you know,
a certain host favorite team in New York.

Speaker 1 (24:25):
Well, that's where I'm going next, you know, That's where
I'm going. I feel like I've seen good things from
the Knicks. I feel like there's a little more drama
going on than I would expect this early in the
season with the Knicks and Karl Anthony Towns and his
role and everything. But overall, I'm like, Okay, either we're
going to be really good or we're gonna get Yannis
at the deadline. So Mark, I feel like I have

(24:45):
a good free next couple of months coming up.

Speaker 3 (24:48):
Well, I look, if if Yannis ever reaches the point
that he is actually legitimately on the trade market, your
knicks will be in the discussion. But I would be
very surprised if that was an in season development. I
just don't see that happening in season. And looks Jannis

(25:09):
was pretty you know, he spoke about this, you know,
pretty extensively when the season started and camp started, and
he said, look, do I entertain the notion of playing elsewhere? Yes,
in the off season, that's the time to think about
these scenarios. But once the season starts, I'm locked in.
It's not something I want to contemplate during the season.

(25:32):
And I believe him, you know, I don't think he
wants to think about Look, he loves Milwaukee so much.
This is your thirteen for Yannis. He's now a thirty
something like, this is the only NBA city he's known. Obviously,
he's dropped enough hints, He's cracked the window open enough
times that you can't sit there and say he's going

(25:54):
to be a Buck for life. He might not be.
He might eventually reach the point that he wants to
try something else. But I believe him when he says
it's not something that he wants to think about midstream,
mid season and the Bucks because the East is so
wide open and because jannest is the best player in
the East. Still like, you got to give the Bucks

(26:15):
a puncher's chance to win a round or two in
the playoffs. I know they're coming off three straight first
round exits, but injuries have been a big factor there.
So I do not Like I said, if and when
that day comes, the Knicks will be at the forefront
of it. But I really don't think it's happening in
season now.

Speaker 4 (26:35):
Mark, he's asking about all sorts of winning teams. Let
me let me go to the other end again, back
to the Western Conference. What happens with Ja Morant?

Speaker 3 (26:45):
Well, look, it's everyone around the league is asking that question.
Keys you know the hey's now the superstar that everybody's
wondering about. Will you know what is the future for
John Morant in Memphis? But look to this point to
a one game suspension, after everything that has been said,
after everything, we can see with our own eyes that

(27:06):
I mean, you know, he was disengaged in that Laker game,
you know, to a dramatic degree. And I don't know
that it's really gotten better. I mean, tomorrow night we
got Dallas at Memphis. I mean, that's two teams that
are just wounded right now. But to this point, there
have been no concrete, credible signals that the Grizzlies have

(27:28):
any intention of entertaining offers for John Morant, even if
there were teams trying to make it happen, and there
there are no clear indications that Jaw is really pushing
for that. So it's obviously a major story, and it's,
you know, the first real kind of dramatic turn that

(27:52):
everybody's monitoring at the start of the season. But I
guess that's my long win away and I can't call
right now because all the whispers are nothing's really going
on here the Grizzlies, and look, JOA. Morant is insanely
popular in Memphis. He is the face of that franchise.

(28:15):
The fans love him, they still support him, and so
the Grizzlies if they're ever going to if they ever
reached the point that it's that they want to move
on from him and try something different. I mean, that's
a that's a major, major contemplation that they're gonna have
to go through and deal with. And so and I

(28:36):
don't think five six, seven games into the season, after
they just traded Desmond Bane, I don't really think they're
ready to think in those terms. All right.

Speaker 1 (28:45):
Lastly, Mark, look hanging over the beginning of the NBA season,
the gambling scandal. We saw today that Damon Jones pleaded
not guilty to charge as he profited from a rig
poker game. Is this a story where this is the
tip of the iceberg? Is this a story where we
found out what there is to find out? And and

(29:05):
it kind of calms down, Now, what do you think
this is now? And what you've heard people you talked to?

Speaker 3 (29:11):
No, I mean I think I think again that a
lot of people within the league are asking those same questions.
And look, this was a really rough start to the
season for the NBA too. You know, in September it's
all the allegations of salary cap circumvention that were thrown

(29:33):
at the Clippers, and then one day into the season,
two days into the season to have a story like this,
I mean, this is the coach of the Portland Trailblazer,
isn't a sitting NBA coach is put on indefinite leave
by the league. I mean that is, you know, a
staggering thing. And these are again allegations, but incredibly serious ones.

(29:58):
And you know, we don't know yet how how much brought,
how much broader this story can stretch. But I mean,
are people still very very interested and curious? And yeah,
I mean I don't think it can't go away. It's
just too significant.

Speaker 1 (30:19):
He's on Twitter at the Steinline. He also plants trees
with Kawhi Leonard that's at the Steinline also.

Speaker 4 (30:24):
Said what he did on his off day when he
didn't play the other man, And.

Speaker 1 (30:28):
He's on substack as well. Mark is always buddy, appreciate
your visits. We'll talk to you next week, man. Enjoy
the weekend.

Speaker 3 (30:34):
Just got traded at NBC.

Speaker 1 (30:39):
Running the gamut. Did I get traded at TNT?

Speaker 3 (30:42):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (30:42):
Very nice?

Speaker 3 (30:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (30:44):
Look, you know the thing is with this this scandal
that that's hanging over the league. You see sometimes how
quickly that stories can fade, and they need oxygen to
continue to keep them front page right, you'll get the
gambling scandal last year with and show Heyo Tani, right,
that was a huge deal. But then what happened There
was no more oxygen in that story after and we

(31:06):
found out what went on and Epay the way he
acted on and that story was gone like after a
couple of months. Now I know, and Mark's look right now,
I think everybody is afraid, and I get it because
last in the NBA wants is to find out that, hey,
these things are happening. If it's we find out it's
more about guys hanging out at rig poker games. That's
different than guys giving out gambling information at the night

(31:29):
because we're going one thing where these guys have really
bad habits and it's easy to excize them to Hey,
the game is really struggling and it has all kinds
of problems. If this story goes away, if we if
this is the story what we've seen, and the next
couple of months it's just a continuation of Damon Jones
and Chauncey Billups, it's gonna go away pretty fast. And

(31:51):
even if it's just the poker games, it'll go away
pretty fast. Never great to hear, hey, man, we got
the mafia involved with NBA. But these are guys making
money stuff off the court, and unfortunately, you know, people
sometimes do things they shouldn't off the court. But as
long as it's fabric of the game, and it's the
gambling scandal, that that kind of hits the back burner

(32:13):
in a couple of months, Like, we're not even gonna
remember remember that big gambling scandal beginning of the season.
It'll be like the show, hey, gambling scandal with EPA
last year. By the time we hit June, we're gonna
forget about it.

Speaker 2 (32:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (32:22):
I mean, look, I'm old enough to remember the show
Cribs and all of its uh you know offshoots that
we had. What did everybody always have scarface posters? Uh,
mobster posters. So there's a there's a kindred, you know,
spirit going on here of fascination on one side and
people that want to be around athletes, so they're gonna

(32:43):
get into the room together.

Speaker 1 (32:45):
That's not going to change. It never has, uh.

Speaker 4 (32:48):
And where you have the hope, I guess if you're
the NBA, is that somewhere in all of the data
points and all of the cross examinations and whatever you
can get out of these part dissipants, suspects whatever, that
you get a little bit of plausible deniability. And man,
I knew these guys were more mob guys, but I

(33:10):
was just there like as the entertainer, right, I was
just a name because it's it's worked before, right. I mean,
we had guys suspended from the NFL all those years ago,
and Major League Baseball. Willie May has had to step
away for a while because he was hanging out at
casinos to cash a check right there. There's a lot
of that, but that Yeah, for Adam Silver, the do

(33:31):
nothing commissioner, he's really hoping that this blows blows over
very quickly. The no show jobs thing with with Kawhi
Leon or whatever, that really never got the oxygen that
it probably should have. And a part of it is
you didn't have a bunch of owners getting together to
go after Steve Balmer, maybe because they didn't want anybody

(33:53):
examining what was hanging out in the corners of their
own you know, wreck rooms as it were, like what's
behind that poster?

Speaker 1 (34:01):
You don't want to know?

Speaker 4 (34:02):
So but with the gambling scandal, yeah, I mean they're
hopeful that you can get to the All Star break
and maybe a little bit beyond where we don't get
any more extensions of this. And I gotta imagine that
all those notices that you hear about, hey, they sent
down a note reminding folks that that's a daily.

Speaker 1 (34:22):

every single night. Well, coming up next. You know what,
It's been easy tonight to say what a bad, craptastic,
horrendous Thursday night football game this was between the Broncos
and the Raiders unless you hit the under. However, there
was something absolutely out standing about the game tonight, and
we'll tell you next Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (35:05):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific. Are we gonna really.

Speaker 1 (35:13):
Run John Prine as our final I just discovered him.
How great is this? Love this guy? My dad was
a big fan. Okay, narn see, I hear this and
I all I all I can think of is the
Michael Sarah Went went l Ellen Page Elliott Page version
of from Juno. Okay, sure, Oh the Clay Pigeons. Yeah, Jason, Yeah,

(35:40):
Why does he look like an old j T the brick? Uh?
He's standing up in the studio. I'm standing up in
the studio, Jason Smith. What's your here? Mike Herman Lock
from the Fox Sports radio studios where t NF tonight
was awful? Right, it was? It was bad. It was
an awful game. It was played poorly. Interceptions were thrown,

(36:01):
mistakes were made, Interceptions were thrown that bounced off wide
open players, their jerseys up in the air like they
were wearing some sort of repellent. It was a bad game. Yeah,
both quarterbacks got screwed. By the way. It was ten
to seven. We didn't see a lot of fun. It
wasn't a lot of anything. Again, these are the games
where al Michaels is on the plane home right now,
going I do it all the time. I do it

(36:23):
all the time. I don't know why I do this, Sir,
just put your police seat up. We're taking off. But
why do I do it? I don't know why I
do it. I really don't I have the money. I
don't know why I do this.

Speaker 4 (36:32):
Does he get to make the argument that he should
just have a studio at his house, that he doesn't
actually have to travel anymore.

Speaker 1 (36:38):
I call the games from here. I'm virtual al I
call it games of my underwear eating a sandwich, and
no one's gonna care. Well, just when we need to
show stuff in the studio, we'll show Kirk and we'll
show his dog with a headset on. I've seen the
dog podcast they work really well. It will just look
like it's a dog podcast after this one. That's probably

(37:01):
not a bad idea. The dog podcasts are really funny.
Like you see the two they're wearing headsets and the
one will say to the other, you know, I like
my human said to me today, who's a good boy?
And I said, obviously me ha I. They'll laugh and
bang their paws on the table. It's hysterical and I
just keep watching it. In the new one, you really
get sucked into that it's awesome. I just keep watching

(37:21):
the dog podcast. Now, tonight's game was terrible. It was
absolutely awful. Two seventies for sure. Oh yeah, like there's
two seventy two, this would be I don't know that
you're gonna get more than two. That might be worse.

Speaker 4 (37:35):
For now, we're gonna put it down in at you know,
bottom five, and then we'll float it as we need.

Speaker 1 (37:41):
We had Jet's thirteen eleven two Broncos games. Yeah, involved
in here. But the best thing from tonight's game, this
is inarguable. This is inarguable. You say, no, no, you're right.
I'm not gonna say the best thing was it's over
the best thing. The best thing was I didn't have
anybody going in fantasy, which are both good reasons. No,
you had a couple of guys. I gave you a
decent day, nothing world, both reasons. The best thing from

(38:04):
tonight's game one hundred percent the Broncos uniforms. You know
that is true. This was this was not just to
throw back to the eighties Broncos, the l Way era,
the mid to late eighties and early nineties. Now this
was a throw This was the seventies. Randy Gratis jar,
Craig Morton, Broncos. That orange was spectacular. It's almost like

(38:26):
it was like the color Rush night. But that was
absolutely Sometimes when you just watch somebody looking good doing something, uh,
it takes away from the craptasticness. Now that's fair. In
the end, it didn't really. It was still a really
bad game. And you see the orange uniforms and you
watch the ball bounce off of Troy Troy Franklin's jersey
and into the arms of a Raiders dB, and you go,

(38:48):
oh no, no, this game still sucks. But the Broncos
uniforms outstanding, absolutely outstand Even Peyton wearing the hoodie that
he did takes you back. And sure, there's just something
about night seeing that orange. It looked so good, so
much brighter. That's why it goes back to like seventies
Orange Crush Bronze. This is seventy seven. Yeah, it was

(39:08):
the Inspira. This was this was absolutely outstanding tonight.

Speaker 4 (39:12):
So Craig Morton, Yeah, Haven Moses, ricup Church, Yeah yeah,
I love Rick up Church.

Speaker 1 (39:18):
Jim Jensen, uh, Lonnie parrin Otis Armstrong oh yeah yeah yeah, yeah, yeah,
Idle yeah, Jim kill two Yeah, yeah, Jim kick Tom
Jackson I think was it was? Yeah, he would have
been on that squad. TJ rookie on that team. Lyle
al Zado. Look, I really wanted to see the Raiders

(39:39):
wearing big throwbacks tonight too, but instead they wore their
their snow jerseys, you know, the uh oh it's the
white ones with the silver numbers and a little bit
of black. And I was like, okay, okay, but I mean.

Speaker 4 (39:50):
Yeah, Tom Jackson was an All Pro ninety five. Well
do you have four interceptions including a return that year?

Speaker 1 (39:58):
You tried? Different leagues try to make things happen with
throwback unis, and to an extent, they work in baseball, right,
like the Cardinals wearing the sky blue throwbacks, the Phillies,
the A's wearing that seventies green. But a lot of
teams like, oh, look at those great throwbacks. Yeah, I'm
kind of you. No, I think you're kind of trying
to make it, make it work. Same thing in the NBA.

(40:20):
Oh look at those throwbacks. Yeah, a few of the
throwbacks in the NBA work, right.

Speaker 4 (40:24):
I think the Nuggets hit just bring back that lumberjet
dude full time.

Speaker 1 (40:28):
NHL, there are a few throwbacks that work, right. We
had the Whalers in the Nord Deeks last year, which
was awesome, But nothing works on the larger scale in
sports better than NFL throwbacks. You might be able to
get to college football throwbacks a little bit in college basketball,
but with the NFL NF because you have more to
choose from.

Speaker 4 (40:48):
We got thes, we got these prison guard ones, we
got the night ones, even the.

Speaker 1 (40:54):
Bad ones to go eh, at least you tried. But
generally the NFL, it is almost possible to not put
out a great throwback jersey and and and certain teams
can do it better than there's the Broncos tonight with that,
but just the Eagles and the Kelly Green Bucko Bruce
on down the line. That was that. Again, that was

(41:14):
the best part of the game to the highlight. Not
that we wanted to end with with something, but I
wanted to give you something good out of the game.
We want to go into a positivity Friday. I want
to give you something good. You can punt better than
they did today, yeah oh yeah, yeah, absolutely, you can
punt better.

Speaker 2 (41:26):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (41:26):
How about that? Adding value exit? How about a fresca
at Swollen Dome for Mike, I'm Jason, my buddy Ben
Maller Coming up next to this is Fox. Do you
tell me
