In hour four of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon, Jason and Mike put more spotlight onto LeBron James’ angry demeanor after a purple and gold loss to Toronto. The guys circle back to the NFL and a big Monday of free agent signings. There are rumblings that the Cleveland Browns are flirting with Deshaun Watson, and Jason is not surprised the team may be looking to move on from Baker Mayfield.

If you're not, because you're not getting a good Australian accent,
I want you in an Australian accent to say Russell
Crowe is over Did you don't like Russell Crowe? Now
I'm just saying to Russell Crowe is overrated. I want

(01:05):
to say Russell Crowe is overrated. Yeah, I have not
practiced in Australian acts. I might have to do that
before going to the World Cup next year if I'm
able to pull that trip off so I can fit in. Yeah, No,
you'll be doing the show from the World Cup. That's

it's official now. The Lakers are oh and eight after
the All Star break. When Lebron James doesn't score fifty points,
clearly we know what they need to do to win,
and they were not there tonight. After Lebron spent the
majority of the game with a scowl on his face.
Every bad pass. We was very frustrated that very demonstrated

(02:13):
uh in in his uh emotion of not being happy
he you know, frown was yelling at teammates the whole game.
It's it's I feel like this whole thing is him
just laying the groundwork for eventually when he stops playing,
so he's not on the hook for the Lakers and
making not making the play in tournament and for people
to know that, oh, we can't really blame Lebron James. Look,

(02:36):
he's yelling at his teammates. Lebron wouldn't be yelling at
his teammates if it wasn't their fault. And you know,
I watched play tonight where Lebron James took a lot
of possessions off, not getting backup court after a mislayup
and hanging out waiting for a pass back down court.
So uh yeah, this is all in the messaging for
Lebron James, and this is where and it's it's kind
of weak just to you know, for to see this.

(02:58):
It's you know, I get it, I understand, and I
know you're trying to push the narrative if it's not
your fault, and really you can't help that people who
don't like you are gonna blame you anyway, so it
doesn't matter, doesn't matter what you do. But I feel
like I want to try to control the narrative and
I want people to know this is not my fault
this year for the Lakers. Okay, go ahead and knock
yourself out. But that's what I see when suddenly Lebron

(03:19):
is upset. Suddenly he's unhappy every single play this game. No,
he sees everything falling and falling apart. You're coming off
a bad loss against the Suns. Now he's at the
point where you can find the exit ramp from the season.
I'll pass Karl Malone sometime the next three or four games,
and then I'm not gonna play the rest of the season,
and then I will sit out and then we'll see

(03:40):
what happens, and maybe if we still find a way
to make the play in tournament, I can come back
for the play in games. But but Lebron is always
looking for a way for this to not be his fault.
And and that's that's everything I saw tonight with him.
His body language in this game was just awful. Well
after tonight, once he got like another seventy five points
or something like that. I haven't done the updated Yeah,

(04:00):
I think he's I think I think he's So let's
just say that. I mean the last two wins he
had over fifty. So obviously there's your formula to UH
to victory. But what's been interesting to watch and he
deserves a huge, huge helping of the derision UH for

(04:21):
roster assembly and for what's been done in terms of
roster decisions and who went away because you look at
the direction of this squad, even going back to the championship.
You played defense, You committed to playing defense. I don't
have anybody committing to playing defense on the squad. And

(04:41):
if that's going to be the case, then Frank Vogel
does is useless to you as a coach, right, I mean,
I think we can all stipulate to that. That's why
he got the job, that's why it was successful. The
loss of Anthony Davis and being out as long as
he has. Yeah, obviously you know that's a monster issue.
But the roster was ill constructed to begin with it.
I'm still always curious if at full strength in a

(05:04):
series environment, could it be interesting. Sure, but watching it
on a night tonight basis it's painful, and tonight was
another example. So Lebron gets gets his and and he
can't run from it. Right, nothing's going to change that
narrative except for the Lebron James sycophants out there that
want to talk about the numbers that he's still putting

(05:25):
up because they're empty at this point. We have to
do that, and we have to be fair and apply
that everywhere, right, because we did that in the NFL
towards the end, Right, Kyler Murray comes back from his
ankle injury and it becomes a well, he wouldn't commit
to running well. He still had the turbo mode a
few times, but it wasn't enough. Team wasn't good enough.

(05:47):
He wears it fine. But when a guy like Russell Wilson,
who everybody loved even if they don't understand him and
stipulate to the enigmatic nature of Mr Unlimited but still
has that reputation, the fact that his legs became less
a part of his game this year and last and
that maybe he's declining as a quarterback, and it all

(06:09):
gets structured as well. The offensive lines no good, right,
or this decision was no good? Likewise, when we get
to the NBA, the guys have to wear it right.
In this case Lebron James. We know he has clout.
We watched him thanos away half rosters in the past
to get what he wanted. He made the decision and
helped in the decision process to help build the roster

(06:31):
as it sits. That doesn't absolve the Lakers from responsibility. Hell.
I love the the discussion at the trade deadline that
Ramona Shelburn put out saying, well, they want to do
Jennison Westbrook and we're told, well, here's what we'd have
to give up. So no, you make the best of
what's going on here. Problem is you enabled that to
begin with, so you don't get off the hook either. Yeah.

(06:54):
That you know, that's the thing that people aren't taking
enough into consideration that the Lakers got Soll Westbrook and
this is a big deal. They got Russell Westbrook and
decided we're gonna not let him be Russell Westbrook, Like,
what the hell are you doing? Like I watched it
and I go this is when Rix Ryan says, oh,
we're gonna draft a guy at defensive tackle and put
him at defensive end. Well, what the hell, are you
talking about man, the guy's great player defensive. No, we're

(07:16):
gonna do this. We're gonna get Russell Westbrook and make
him fit into our offense. What in anything you've seen,
either on film or in conversations makes you think Russell
Westbrook's gonna change his game and still be an effective player.
Westbrook has done it one way for over a dozen years,
and that's with the ball, and he controls it up

(07:36):
and down the floor. He's a volume shooter and you
have to give him the keys to the offense. And
it was perfect for the Lakers. Hey, we're gonna let
him do it. We're gonna be able to save wear
and tear on Lebron and and Anthony Davis. And look,
Lebron can move to the five. And Russell Westbrook just
getting a little more conscious of finding his teammates that
have taken bad shots. That's a little alteration you could

(07:57):
have gone with, Hey, a few less shots, a few
more finding Lebron and a d alright, great, But instead
the Lakers decided, No, Lebron's gonna bring the ball up
and he's gonna be the guy in. Westbrook's gonna stand
in the corner and wait for the ball, and that's
a disaster waiting to happen. I mean, I could have
told you that I could have been the head coach
of the Lakers, and you know what, this is not
gonna work. You gotta let him be who he is.
Some guys you can change. Lebron James has shown, Hey,

(08:19):
I can change positions. I can be a point guard.
I can be a small forward. I could be a
power forward. I can be a center. I can be
one of the best players of all time at every
single bleep in position. But most players can't. So why
did you change what you wanted Russell Westbrook to do?
You screwed with this confidence, you screwed with the with
the team, and when it didn't start out great and
you had injuries to worry about, it never got off

(08:40):
the ground. So, yeah, Russell Westbrook's not been good and
I get that, and I understand that. Look, I'm gonna
tell you, as much as I love him, I know, hey,
this season, clearly this is now a different guy. But
the Lakers got to have some kind of responsibility that
you know, uh, maybe we screwed it up in the beginning,
and that's Frank Vogel and that's whatever direction the team
wanted to take, and that's Lebron James. They got to

(09:01):
own it that they brought a guy in and said, no,
we're not gonna let you be the player you were,
We're gonna change you into something else. And that just
didn't make any sense from the beginning. It made no sense. No.
And that's the thing, though, is that you know right
now and it's easy, you know, to pile on Lebron
and look, you wear it right heavy. Is the head

(09:21):
that wears the crown if you're gonna call yourself the
game when when things are going badly, you're gonna have
to wear it. And certainly with this roster, you know,
you can marvel at some of the individual accomplishments, but
in the end, it's it's a bunch of stats. Right.
We talked about it for fantasy football purposes. Okay, that
guy ranked first here or fourth there. It's like, did

(09:42):
their team win? Nope? Separation of fantasy and reality of
what what's an empty stat in a bunch of five
yard screen passes that became eight yard you know, yak
kind of plays. They all count just the same in
the box score, But and and on the scoreboard. But
when you pull it back, you know you're gonna find
the words. Likewise, for this Laker team, you're doing the

(10:05):
same thing, is that you know, the leadership and being
able to elevate these guys on a nightly basis, oh
and get them to care. Because that's one of the
resounding themes of the last couple of weeks, as we've
talked about over the course of the night in referencing
the game tonight and what the team has been since
the All Star Break two and eight. Uh and the
only wins when he scores fifty plus is he's not

(10:26):
elevating the rest of these guys. Right, that's gone. He
gets his points and he's gonna get his milestones. But
for the team itself, for the Lakers, it is it
is something in incumbent upon you know, the folks at
the top to recognize their failures in all of this
by abdicating, you know, responsibility for what the roster became

(10:48):
or acquiescing from the direction they wanted to go to
say all right, superstar, your it's your game. I guess
this is the way we go. And that also comes
to you know, the success of clutch sports and celebrate
it and recognize it for the greatness that it is.
I I'm always, you know, bet on yourself kind of guy.
We talked about that a lot on this show here

(11:09):
on Fox Sports Radio, Jason, you and I write that
the way you've got to try to make your play
and for what those guys have built, it's amazing. But
if you also have conflicts of interest and what you're
trying to build versus you know what the team's direction is.
And sometimes when the latter the former wins out, well,

(12:57):
Radio app, Apple Podcast wherever you get your podcast, The
Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon, and
you know, Big day in the NFL. Today, Day one
of NFL Free agency. We saw some big signings. Uh,
you know right now that the Raiders are rumored to

(13:18):
be getting to Ron Matthews, so that could be out there,
but again, nothing's done there um of everything that went
on today, Mike, because there was a lot of I
don't want to say depth signings, but you saw a
lot of the middle of the road signings. And the
price for free agency is always going up. But the
one big difference maker move was the Chargers getting J. C.

(13:39):
Jackson a right four years and and eighty million dollars.
And you know, the true shutdown corner that was out
there because the Patriots have no money to spend. And
really that's the thing the Patriots could really suck because
they put a lot of money into guys last year
that the contract didn't work out for them. It didn't
work out. John H. Smith, Hunter, Henry Elson, Agaloor, Kendrick Boorne,

(14:02):
Jalen Mills, a lot of these contracts didn't work and
they're stuck. So they were they were never in on J. C.
Jackson at all. And now the Chargers get him. And
and now the Chargers I looked at they have the
most talent of any team in the NFL. They probably
have one of the top three defenses. Their offense is
the top three offense. I don't know that they're not
the most talented team in the league. And I'm gonna

(14:22):
wind up picking them to go to the super Bowl,
not just because of J. C. Jackson, but you know,
in all totality, there's no weak spots. They got everything
they need on this team now. Now depth chart on
both side bolstered. And we talked about how hard it
is to get through that division, right. We talked a
lot about it last week with Russell Wilson uh showing
up and and again. And maybe I'm less sold than

(14:44):
than most, but hey, it's an upgrade over what they had. Uh,
So that's gotta be worth something. But a division that
will cannibalize itself. But you add Jackson to a squad
you already added extra on the interior, right, Johnson and
Joseph Day on your D line. You made the trade
for Khalil Mack where you didn't have to send much
back except to pick up his salary for the year.

(15:07):
And you look at that secondary is is now formidable
and offensively, we know what they are. But and and
that's what we talked about with each team in the
a f C West, it's been about offense, offense, and
more offense. Well, today it's all about defense and getting
better and figuring out how to shut down uh those

(15:28):
other uh content would be contenders. So yeah, the Chargers
huge upgrade today. And I know Frostberg already hates you
because you're talking super Bowl already. Earlier tonight, we got
to talk to Jason Locke and for a CBS Sports
NFL insider extraordinariy his reaction to Tom Brady's retirement. What's
next for the Dallas Cowboys? Uh? Joining us right after

(15:49):
he finished his Eastern Seaboard Lacrosse rankings. J what's happening? Man? Alright,
how are you guys? Good? All right? So what what
he was? What's your favorite move so far today? What
do you like the most of one team? Date? My
favorite move? Um? If it's the Jets, that's okay, you
can say, I guess you know. Look, you guys were

(16:16):
just talking about J. C. Jackson, twenty six year old,
true shutdown corner in his prime. Um, who they get
to control for the duration of his prime and and
do it without having to reset the market. That's I'll
take that Um, that secondary should be quite formidable. Now. Um,

(16:44):
they've got the bookend for Bosa with mac now and
and both. I don't think it's been quite the same
since Melvin Ingram. Um, you know, availability became a problem,
and I do worry about Bosa's health as well. But
they and they had a d tackle. Um, they had

(17:04):
to do some things to to kind of re establish
themselves at the point of attack. UM, keeping Mike Williams
was huge. I mean that was a team that I
wrote some columns in the last couple of weeks saying, look,
this is not going to be the same all Charger as.
They can't be. They know in that building, they've got
to spend. Um, you guys are out there, they've got
to contend now with the Lombardi Trophy winners. UM as

(17:26):
sort of step children in Cronky Stadium. And how are
they going to maximize what's left of this period of
time where justin Herbert is such a bargain. So I
I you know, what's what's not to like about what
they've done? Um? Can they still do something else on
the offensive line? I? You know, I think probably, UM,

(17:49):
And then you still have a draft to come as well,
and it's not like you had to mortgage a whole
lot of you know, I mean for what they got
Khalil mac for, I'm very bull show them. Um that's
that's But then again, I also feel like I've they
had not done it this way before, but I feel
like I've fallen for this Charger's oaky duck before. And

(18:10):
it's a really tough division, but they they had I
expected them to make three, you know, significant acquisitions, and
and they've they've done that. Jason, coming off of that, obviously,
we we look at the board of quarterbacks. Jason's mocked
me all along about Mitchell Robiskie, saying, hey, no, no, no, no, hey, Look,

(18:35):
the Steelers made a decision and they decided this is
the white route they're taking. So you need to shut
up and new your microphone. Okay, because the rest of
the quarterbacks now fall in line with a lot of wishing,
wanting and hoping. Regarding DeShawn Watson, Well, look, I don't
know what Mr robisky is gonna end up being in

(18:57):
in Pittsburgh, but if you have a starting quarter back
for seven million dollars a year, you probably don't have
a starting quarterback. But but I get trying this. UM.
He fits with the sort of elements and the philosophies
that Matt Cannada believes in. UM. He's going to be
able to extend plays with his legs. You're gonna be
able to move the target point around and and put

(19:20):
him in boots and waggles and r p o s
and option looks. That should open up some space for
Naza Harris and help out that offensive line. And they're
gonna They're gonna invest in an offensive line. They're gonna
make a mover too. But it's probably still not going
to be a great unit. But but with the the
the need to defend the quarterback in the run game, now,
UM it may unlock a little bit. I just I

(19:43):
don't think Mr Bisky is going to I think he's
more of an athlete than the quarterback. I I don't
know that he's going to be UM somebody who whose
accuracy UM is going to be what you would ideally get.
And I think Jamis Winston UM in a lot of
ways would have been a better fit for them, except
that they clearly want to run you know, Matt Canada's offense,

(20:05):
and I you know, so I get it to a
certain degree. Um I don't think this precludes them from
drafting a quarterback though whatsoever in the first round. And
then you know who's left. I mean, you know, I
think Jamis Winston is the best free agent available, but
he's coming off a knee surgery and so you know,
we'll see there. And if the Saints don't land to

(20:27):
Shaun Watson, I think that's where Jamis Winston will end up.
Um At kirk Cousins would be traded. There was a
lot of trade conversations regarding kirk Cousins, the Vike. He's
wanted a lot for him. Ultimately, I decided to double
down on him again for one more year. Um Garoppolo
and can't throw until July. You know, he's probably dealt,

(20:50):
but you know what what exactly for and where I
think that remains to be seen. But the Steelers were
going to have to add somebody else to that mix
of here in with some NFL pedigree, maybe not a
great one in the case of Rabisky, but someone who
could be better than Mason Rudolph. And I do think Mr.
Rabinsky is probably better than Mason Rudolph. I just don't

(21:13):
know how much better Jason Lock and for our guest
that Jason Smith or with Mike Carman live from the
Fox Sports Radio studios. All right, now, I want to
hit you with a Tom Brady hot take, and I
want you I want you to watch some of what
you think about your ready. I'm ready? All right? So
after he un retires yesterday, how much of this retirement

(21:33):
looks a lot like Brett Farve in two thousand and
eight he gets traded to the Jets. I'm gonna sit
out now, I'm done. I'm done. I'm done. I really
want to get to Minnesota. And hey, after the Jets
move on they draft Mark Sanchez, he decides I want
to play. I go to Minnesota for two years because
that's where I really wanted to be. How much of
this Tom Brady retirement, because now it looks like a

(21:54):
complete sham after forty days, was because he thought he
could get away from Tampa and get to a more
prefer destination. UM, I don't. I don't think it's it's that.
I really don't. Um, you know, I just go back
to what I started hearing the final week of the
regular season and going into the playoffs. I mean, this

(22:14):
was someone who was sort of getting himself ready for
the next stage of his career. And maybe he you know,
maybe he talked himself into some things that he wasn't
really ready for. But but people who know him really well,
we're getting the sense that he was at peace with
this and this was probably going to be as good
as it would ever get, and he was ready to, um,

(22:38):
come to grips with the end of his sort of
hist of his football mortality and move forward and produced
movies and be involved in sort of that that side
of things and be a different sort of dad and husband. UM.
I don't think he set out with some sort of
Machiavelli employ to pull this lever or that lever and

(22:59):
I'll jump back in if this happens or that happens.
I think he believed that he could walk away and
be relatively at peace with it. And six weeks away
and it's you know, he would be starting to throw
with Tom House and getting back into his routine in
full swing and seeing some of these other quarterbacks call
their shot and Russell Wilson, now you know, jump ship

(23:20):
and he's looking around the rest of the NFC and
he's talking to the Glazers and he's thinking, you know,
we could still keep this thing together, and we really
haven't lost much yet, and you know, I do feel
good and I was probably the m v P last year,
except he's not thinking probably, He's saying I was the
MVP last year, and I would agree with him, So
I think it was probably more organic and natural. And

(23:42):
as he's sort of getting the itch, you know, I
think gisel Is is, rather than saying over my dead body,
is saying that, look, I don't want your home and
miserable if that's what this is gonna be, um and
you brooding about what could have been, and and so
he reaches a point where he goes over to Old
Trafford and sit down with the Glazers and they tell
them this is all the stuff we could do to

(24:03):
keep the band together. You really want this, and he says, great,
you worked this contract out with my agent Don Ye
and let's let's let's roll last one for you, Jason.
The Cowboys making moves on offense, how much predicated on
the money tied up in Ezekiel Elliott when you see
Amarty Cooper shipped out and Cedric Wilson shipped out and

(24:25):
trying to figure out what the next generation of this
squad looks like. Well, this was a team, you know,
and again I'll go back to Commo right last week.
There is a team that I thought was going to
really suffer. Here in the early stage is a free
agency and they're they're going to have to become increasingly
draft dependent because they've sort of reached a point in
time where the offensive line is never going to be
as good as it was a couple of years ago.
They're stuck with a couple of bad contracts. They were

(24:48):
able to keep the Marcus Lawrence, which was huge, but
I don't think they're going to be able to keep
Randy Gregory. Um, and you're right, it's a team that
I thought that you know, the Sultz move was panicky
to me. Um, the quarterbacks coming off surgery again. The
head coach is looking over his shoulder every time somebody
whispers the name Sean Payton. Uh. Both you know, both

(25:10):
coordinators have something to prove, certainly telling more. Um. Yeah,
how they've sort of allocated their their assets. A window
is closed there, whether they want to admit it or not.
And they never would and they'll say, as long as
we've got Dak Prescott. We've got a chance. And as
long as we play in the NFC East, we've got
a chance. And I said, well, you've got a chance
to win ten eleven games, but I'll think you've a

(25:32):
chance to win a whole lot. In January and February,
you can follow on Twitter at Jason Locking for that
is at Jason Lock and for again all the Eastern
Seaboard lacrosse rankings. Will Yeah, I'm mom all over. It
s three to go, Saltberry. Jay is always buddy appreciated,

who covers the NFL for Pro Football Network and starting
to see this story get picked up in places that,
according to sources, tomorrow, the Browns will meet with Deshaun Watson,
one day after we met with the Saints and Panthers,
both teams of which made trade proposals for Watson's. Now

(26:35):
here come the Browns, who are, according to reports, are
in on the Deshaun Watson sweepstakes. Now lots of teams
are starting to get in on it, and you know,
the thing is Mike regardless of Watson. Here for a second,
this this kind of feels like this is the end
of Baker Mayfield in Cleveland, right Like, going into the
off season, it was, well, we're gonna try to make

(26:57):
it work with Baker, and Baker's our guy, and every
thing they put out because they knew Baker Mayfield's not
really tradeable, nobody wants them. We you know, we have
one more year the option wise, and let's see if
we can make it work. And now where are things. Well,
here we are in the middle of March, and Baker
Mayfield may have a little bit of value around the NFL.

(27:18):
Look if the Steelers just signed Mitchell Drabinsky, Uh, Baker
Mayfield has some value for eighteen million dollars for a
couple of teams who are sorely in need of a quarterback,
so they could move on from him for very very little.
And here they are getting in onto Shaun Watson. Even
if they don't get him, I feel like they have
to move on from him. It's Baker Mayfield's not one
of those guys who are gonna come back and it's

(27:39):
gonna be happy. Hey, you try to replace me a
couple of times. This kind of feels like the end.
And even if they don't get to Shawn Watson, well,
you know, the horses out of the barn. So we're
gonna go out. We don't get Watson, we're gonna go
get another quarterback. Maybe we're gonna go get Jimmy Garoppolo,
something else, and they can move off of Baker Mayfield.
I kind of feel like they've made that decision and

(28:00):
that's what that that's what this signifies. Would they like
to get Deshaun Watson, I'm sure, But I don't know
how they go back to Baker Mayfield after this. Well,
I think you kick all the tires that you can.
I mean, obviously for Deshaun Watson with his no trade clause,
I mean, he's been connected to the Browns in the past,
going back to a year ago, there was some whispers

(28:22):
again with all of it, with the legal issues hanging out.
Trying to choose the words on that one, because it's
still just mind boggling all the stuff that was out there. Uh,
criminal charges and look that that's not finished, Okay, if
there could still be other things that show up in
the depositions for the civil cases that complicate matters again, uh,

(28:45):
and and reopen some of that. But denying Seattle, which
looked like he could have been a potential destination. Right
with the the bounty they got for Russell Wilson, erasing
some of the ills and even some of the stuff
you feel relate to that Jamal Adams deal. Obviously they're

(29:06):
not letting him talk to the Colts in division. But
this one for Baker Mayfield. I look, there's been a
lot of whispers that behind the scenes, this hasn't work
as part of the Jarvis Landry departure as that went
down and Odell Beckham Jr. And all, It's like, at

(29:28):
some point you have a common denominator and it's the
energy and effort needed to make things as perfect as
you can. For Baker Mayfield, after a few years of it.
At some point you have to realize, all right, we're done.
And the fact that they haven't committed to the long
term deal tells you exactly what they think at this point.

(29:49):
But you are always going to kick the tires on
a guy that is a top what five, top seven
player when he's at his peak and on his on point,
like de gen Wutson has shown us in the past.
Uh So, while it doesn't mean it's completely closed, yeah,
I think it indicates that Baker, if he's there, he
ain't there for long. I mean, really, I don't know

(30:12):
how you can go back after this, and if if
it fails for Watson, it will just be somebody else.
Maybe it's Jamis Winston. It's like, okay, now I'm around.
Get Winston and then you can give Baker Mayfield away
for nothing and there's TV. Look, New Orleans needs a quarterbacks. Yeah,
I don't needs a quarterback. Caroline needs a quarterback. Heywork,
teams has Taysom Hill, you stop. Okay, a lot of
teams need quarterbacks. They all need quarterbacks. I'm not even

(30:39):
entertaining that we'll be gone Twitter and there Mike gets
swollen down the Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmon. Got another big story to finish up without
of the National Football League to tell you about Tom
Brady and family. But it's not gonna be the conversation
you think that's next. Right here, Fox Fox Sports Radio
has the best sports talk up in the nation. Catch

R to listen live Fox Sports Radio That Jason Smith
Show with my best friend Mike Harmon. Yeah, and uh, look,
real quick thing on on Tom Brady who retired from
the NFL and then unretired a day ago. Uh, just

(31:25):
one thing to understand, and and why did Tom Brady unretired?
People are surprised, Like we told you he wasn't really retired.
Um Brady gave the I'm gonna spend more time with
my family reason, which you hear all the time from coaches.
I'm retired to spend more time with my family. And
then urban Meyer winds up with another job, right, Like,
that's kind of why we retiring and spent time with

(31:47):
my family and then it's out. Um. One thing that
that is that people don't talk about enough is not okay? Well,
that's an excuse, right, because nobody wants spend time with
their family. UM, just think about this for a second.
The reason no one does it is because they have
crafted a life that they're pretty comfortable with. They see
their family exactly how much they want to see them.

(32:08):
They have that ballance. Some people want to see their
families all the time. Some people want to see their
families when it works. Some people make time to be
with their families. So Brady suddenly after a certain lifestyle
he's had for twenty five years where it's been football,
and I'm fitting my family in. UM, anybody that says
and tries to go be with their family, it doesn't

(32:28):
work because you don't suddenly just become a family guy.
You don't wake up one day and go, boy, my
son's in seventh grade and what am I gonna do?
And I'm gonna be like you dad. You know that
doesn't happen. Either you want to spend time with your
family or you want to spend time when it's good
for you. Brady's had one. And this is not anti
Tom Brady. This is everybody has a different way how

(32:51):
they want to be with their family. Nobody just decides
now I'm gonna be with my family. I'm missing too much. No,
because anybody that does that then goes back to what
they were doing after not long after, because all right,
to spend time with my family, this is not who
I am. I'm not someone that stays home all the
time and does these things. So I'm ready to go
back to what I was doing for a living before.
I had a nice little break, and now I go back.

(33:11):
That's what Brady did. Brady took a break. He should
have just said it, eat some time off to be
with my family. Then I'll make my decision. Hey, I'm
gonna come back and play next year. That would have
been better off had he done that. But just to
believe that someone's gonna suddenly say now I want to
be with my family. Now, if you really wanted to
be with your family, you'd have done it before. Now
you crafted a life for twenty five years. That's the

(33:32):
life you live in. And if Brady wasn't playing, he
wouldn't be with his family. He'd be doing more movies
and doing more TV twelve stuff and and being a
big mogul like he wants to do. Nobody just goes
back to their family because they wake up one day
saying I've been missing a lot. Nobody does that. Well,
you might have those, you know, for forgive the phrase
he come to Jesus moment. Right health, scare of your

(33:54):
own health, scare of a family member, some other issue
that arises uh within the house, right illnesses, or or
all the different myriad things you can read about in
the news. We won't belabor on the point here, but
just the idea that something might take you out of
the game temporarily that way, but your habits, your drive,

(34:16):
your work ethic, and particularly what we know about Tom Brady.
I don't pretend to know his family life. I know
he doesn't have infants running around, right, So that part
of it's gone, uh that everybody in the house has
their own life and pursuits, so part of that goes
in as well, and for him free agency else and
and the legal tampering period also means it's football time.

(34:38):
So aren't you going to get the itch? Even if
it was just forty forty days or forty one days.
I mean, that's a whole lenten season. He gave up
football and now he's back to Bruce Arians and Byron
Leftwich Twitter at how about a fresca Mike gets swollen
done the Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike
harmon Um to close tonight. Uh thing that was just

(35:01):
a shock to all of us. You know, we had
a day or so to process this, but two times.
WW Hall of Famer Scott Hall passed away at the
age of sixty three, better known as Razor Marmon. He
was placed on life support after complications from hip replacement surgery. Uh. Look,
he had some kind of career the n W with

(35:22):
Hulk Hogan and you know for that for most of
the nineties when wrestling really exploded. I mean he was
was one of the top two or three stars in
in in the in the entire sport. I mean it
was Razor he was. He was just that big a
deal when he first came around and then and the
WW is a lot to him for continuing to push
that popularity. Yeah, I watched it over the course of

(35:43):
the day. Uh had hip surgery and then blood clots
and a couple of heart attacks and and taking off
life support earlier today. Uh, sixty three years old. A
rough life, and certainly the biographies will include you know,
the battles that he had. But I know so many
people that you know would would get out with those

(36:03):
guys when they were on the untraveling back in the day.
I mean, I remember all the way back in the
a w A. That's before Razor Ramon, That's yeah, yeah,
you know when he was just big Scott Hall, right,
and that was it's just a big you know, Harry Dude,
run around with a giant mustache, hanging out with Curent.
Henning was a tag team partner. That is the interesting

(36:24):
thing though, for the incredible run he had an impact
on the sport, was never the world champion. Yeah yeah,
you think at some point that would have been able
to happen for him, you think. But anytime you get
to start by yelling AO and celebrating a bad guy.
My brothers and I probably passed fifty videos back and

(36:44):
forth over the course of the day. I remember this interview,
remember this bit, remember this gag. I mean he and
Kevin Nash and obviously with whole Cookean the n w
O is something that is transcendent. I got my White
Sox version of that shirt ready for spring training. Now,
Twitter at, how about a Fresco might get swollen. Dome
Scott Hall Rest in peace. Coming up next, my buddy
