to another big return to sports tonight, we got anybody.
Everybody's coming here happy returns. Yes, just like Pete Fintech
rejoining the show. Its great.
Speaker 3 (01:00):
He texted me immediately, goes YEA. Now now football season
has begun. I started with you guys.
Speaker 1 (01:04):
Yeah, he's excited. Yeah. Look, we have the the NFL
back for Week two of the preseason. And I told
you a few minutes ago. The Patriots belong on a
list of teams that only have one problem, and that
problem is that they stink. No, pretty badly. Yeah, the
Patriots should be picking first in the draft next year,
all right. Their division is tough. It's tough for it
(01:27):
for all these teams. I'm going to tell you about that.
I have on my list of the five teams that
all stink that should be vying for the number one
overall pick. Patriots have pole position because their division is
the toughest one. All the teams in their division got better.
They're not going to be favored in any division games.
Because if you want to look at a team like
Denver's not on my list because I say, yeah, Denver, Yeah,
(01:50):
they're kind of starting over, but still that division ain't
that tough. You don't know when Justin Herbert's coming back.
The Raiders, by the way, are on my list of
teams that stink.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
So but even like the Chiefs, right vision, Yeah, we
know they're going to be there at the end. Are
they going to be if you meet him at the
end of September? Like we watched last year, defense carried him,
but the offense didn't click till late and the Chargers, we.
Speaker 1 (02:13):
Have no idea what they are at this point. We
have to be real about it. You don't know what
and I would you know, literally, I would put the
Chargers on this list if Herbert was out a long time,
but right now we think he's coming back. Beginning of
the season. You get one of the best quarterbacks in
the NFL back, your team is going to wind up being. Okay,
we're talking about bottom of the barrel of teams that
I go, man, they should be vying for the number
(02:33):
one pick all year. And with the Patriots, the Raiders,
the Giants, the Saints, and the Cardinals, those are five
teams that I can't see a way forward for them
because they're all either trapped in a cycle of starting
over or they're in a situation where I can't see
them getting out and suddenly winning seven or eight games.
(02:56):
Right the Raiders, you see what they're doing at quarterback
right there. They're gonna trade Devonte Adams by the deadline.
They're completely starting over. They got seventeen tight ends. They
got to try to get the football too. The Giants
are awful. They're just bridging the gap between this year
and next year. When they can go get a quarterback
because clearly we paid Daniel Jones and we shouldn't have.
We're paying them forty million dollars this year. What are
(03:18):
we gonna do. Let's continue to go forward. They don't
have a lot of playmakers outside of Elak neighbors, but
that's just it.
Speaker 3 (03:22):
You got neighbors, you got maybe Robinson wide receivers are
moderately interesting, but you've traded out Barkley. As we famously
saw in the offseason hard knocks, which has become infinitely
more entertaining than what the Bears are giving us. That's
my team, and it pains me that we're not more
entertaining for the masses.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
Yeah, but you're gonna be great, though, But the Bears
are gonna be potential. I told you, buddy, you're gonna
be great. That's a Vision's gonna be a in their chair.
But you're gonna win games and go to the playoffs
and you're gonna be a super Bowl threat for the
next decade. Caleb Williams, is that, Oh, that's the case.
But the more you say that, the more I want
to punch you in the.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
Head and back you and every other person off the
bandwagon because now it's becoming overweighted because all you're doing
is setting it up because when it goes bad, you
will cut them loose.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
So yes, I will. There's no question about that's exactly
what you're said.
Speaker 3 (04:13):
I'll pretend I never said it. I know what you're doing. Yeah,
but yeah, the So we go back. The Patriots had
the four and a half over under on wins. Raiders
and Giants are at six and a half.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
You had.
Speaker 3 (04:29):
The Saints are at seven and a half, as are
the Cardinals as we sit here today. I want to
make a more you know, bold argument for the Cardinals
that Kyler Murray and this iteration of this squad with
Marvin Harrison Junior joining the Fray James Connor for whatever
(04:50):
number of games you get him, all of that toughness
and bigger, faster, stronger, all that.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
But again, you.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
Know you've got Geno and the the Seahawks not exactly
world beat.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
We got the Rams.
Speaker 3 (05:01):
Matthew Stafford's already left the field once with a handstringer,
so you know you're sending up the flares a little
bit there.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
As much as we.
Speaker 3 (05:08):
Love Pooka and Cooper Cup, Aaron Donald May or may
not walk back through that door, but we'll get back
in a minute. So you're you're looking at the potential
there to maybe be a little bit better. But I
like your list, I like the I like that we're
living in the negative space. Well, well, look, this was
the game tonight, so we have to talk about the
(05:28):
game tonight. And and the Patriots are that bad, The
Raiders are that bad, the Giants are that bad.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
The Saints are that bad. They didn't get better in
the offseason, they didn't fix their running game. All their
running backs are hurt. How are they actually going to
the Yeah, Chris Olave is really good. Don't get me wrong,
Chris Olave is really good. But that division everybody got
better and they kind of stayed the same. And they
weren't great to begin with. There wasn't a lot of
great vibes last year. There's not be great vibes. And
(05:55):
suddenly Derek Carr can do it. The Saints are going
to be bad and the Cardinal are going to be bad.
Even though you think, okay, fresh start, Kyler Murray's healthy,
how long is that going to go for? How long
until Kyler Murray either doesn't live up to expectations, or
he gets hurt and suddenly it's another lost season in
the desert for the Arizona Cardinals. This is kind of
how it goes. I will say this, of the five teams,
(06:15):
if you said to me the one team that could
find their way to five or six wins and not
compete for the number one overall pick, I give you
the Cardinals, okay, because I could see Murray pulling a
couple of wins off by himself. We've seen that. And
if he's one hundred percent healthy and back, I get it.
I like what they did in the draft. Now they
have a backup behind James Connor who potentially can be
a good running back in Bens and if they need him.
So okay, I'll give you that. But still, boy, it's
(06:38):
hard to not not go with what happens to the
Cardinals every year. But these teams are all they're all
either starting over or they're in a year where they're
waiting to start over, and there's no that doesn't just
turn into hey, guess what, we're flipping the switch. Right.
If you're in a division where everybody else is better
than you and you're waiting on next year, you're going
(06:58):
zero to six in your division, not winning a game,
it's not happening.
Speaker 3 (07:01):
It's an interesting run, right, So with the five teams
that you gave. In addition, looking at the over under
wins totals, this is Vegas in Saturday's got a number
of the sports books that have put up their odds.
They got the Broncos at six and a half and
then you have the Titans at six and a half
as well with the Commanders.
Speaker 1 (07:20):
Those are three teams also near the.
Speaker 3 (07:22):
Bottom, not quite to the depths of the New England Patriots.
Speaker 1 (07:26):
I like j Daniels and I think he'll win a
few games. I think I think they're terking about it.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
Good.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
You're talking about five or six wins is what you
have to do to get away from this. But also
we're looking at an NFC East. Yeah, who's running away
and hiding? Oh yeah, no, no, no Cowboys. I mean they
might get their eleven or twelve wins again, no and
then fail us since January telling me, I love Jayden
Daniels and I like what the Titans did in the offseason.
They got better, they're a little bit deeper. They'll win
a handful of games. Denver is tough, but I kind
(07:51):
of believe in Sean Payton and whoever he picks a quarterback,
and bo Nix's looked good so far, and they're in
the division with the Raiders. So I'm gonna take the
Broncos winning those couple of games there.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
Yeah, I think the genius tag left once dre arm
fell off.
Speaker 1 (08:05):
But if I'm picking between Okay the Broncos, I feel like, Okay,
they have an identity and who they're going to be,
and they went out and they got bow Nicks and
here now they're going forward and they'll win a couple
of more games. I'm not saying they're gonna suddenly be
nine and eight here. They are going to play, but
you got to get to five. If you get to
five wins, you're out of this. Oh yeah yeah. Games
(08:27):
that I see that are three and fourteen. Like that's
how the that that's how these teams look. And if
I'm telling you, if any team is going to really
just fight with the Patriots tooth and nail for that
first overall pick, it's going to be the Raiders, Right,
That's the team that's gonna wind up fighting with him,
because you know the Giants, Hey, could you catch fire
win a game here in the NFC East, Yeah, potentially.
(08:48):
The NFC South is weird. Could much. I like the
car the Carolina Panthers getting better. I love thee I
love the Buccaneers this year. But I could see that
you could see the Saints winning a seventeen seventeen sixteen
games and getting to five or six wins. But the
teams that right there that I say, boy, I don't
see a way out for them. Patriots are number one
(09:10):
and the Raiders are number two. I just really I
don't see ways out to them because of what they're
gonna put on.
Speaker 3 (09:14):
The for You're really just trying to put this out
into the universe. So the Raiders brass may hear this
over the vast Fox Sports radio network and the iHeartRadio
apps and higher m and head coach well and so
DeVante Adams finds his way east.
Speaker 1 (09:27):
Dude, I don't. I'm sure Aaron Rodgers is texting him
every five minutes. Dude, see see one more data, I
see you one more data.
Speaker 3 (09:34):
I see They need to be a bigger pain in
the ass. You need another media tour.
Speaker 1 (09:38):
Rogers has a big calendar and that that that's behind
him when he does interviews, and there's X's on every
day and it stops the trade deadline.
Speaker 3 (09:45):
Well, and every one of them has a different picture
of DeVante Adams up there.
Speaker 1 (09:50):
Oh no, oh no, though, so you're thinking like it's
an advent calendar of de Yeah, I'm opening one every
day and a different Davonte and it's a gift of
one of their old team ups.
Speaker 3 (10:00):
There's a touchdown remember that from week twelve, and then
and then Christmas Day, the final day is is them
both in Jet's jersey yea and smiling and unwrapping other
presents like it's a giant nesting dolly.
Speaker 4 (10:10):
No.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
I mean, I'd like to see ways out, but I
just can't. I just can't see ways out for them.
You want to sing a few bars of no way out,
No no, there's no easy way out. But there's your
five teams on the list of there's only one thing
wrong with them. They stink. Oh no, there's a lot
of bad. There's a couple more. But like I said,
I'm waiting to see what goes on with Justin Herbert,
(10:33):
how long he's out, because that could potentially be a
team that that could put you in there. You could
see that potentially infuriating all our friends on a five
seventy l a sports dude at how about a Frisco
come on at swollen Down. You saw them play last week?
How are they gonna? And all I justin Herbert's not playing.
Speaker 3 (10:50):
No, there were there were moments I felt bad for
our guys Matt money Smith and Daniel Jeremiah in the booth.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
Dude, there is nothing yeah there and and and you know,
Eagles kind of saw this tonight because the the last
few months have been filled with Hey, Jalen Hurts versus
Nick Sirian Is Dick Sirianni gonna get fired? Is Jalen
Hurts really great? Is he? Does he have another level
to him? And that's been a big battle the last
few months. Like Siriani, how does he almost get fired?
After those two seasons Super Bowl, he started to test.
Speaker 3 (11:17):
We talked about disconnecting, you change out coordinators, things happen.
Speaker 1 (11:21):
No, the Jets broke them. The Jets broke them with
that last year. They broke them.
Speaker 3 (11:26):
When you want to make it about the Jets and
about you, I get it.
Speaker 1 (11:29):
But watching the Eagles play tonight and watching the Chargers
play last week for all the conversation of boy, I
don't know how good our starting quarterback is. Is he
really great? Is he next level? You watch your team
play in the preseason with your backup, and then you'll
get a renewed, a renewed appreciation for how good those
(11:49):
guys are. Anybody who watch Kenny Pickett play tonight, This
is a typical Kenny Pickett preseason game. Hey, he completed
most of his passes. I think he completed nine out
of eleven for like seventeen yards average depth. Okay, yeah,
I mean and he got sacked four times. This is
a Kenny Pickett. You really think Kenny Pickett?
Speaker 2 (12:08):
Really?
Speaker 1 (12:08):
You really think Anny Pickett? Really? You really want good luck?
You really think Nny Pickett's your guy? There? You should
you gain an extra amount of respect and understanding that
boy Jalen Hurts is great. And you see it more
with the Chargers, watch East and Stick or any of
these guys playing. You think what kind of offense the
charge is putting out? You know, I have Quinton Johnston.
He can't even I don't want I don't want to
(12:29):
say this because I'm trying to trade him in a
couple of fantasy leagues and the guys might be listening.
He might be great this year. He's fighting to be
a backup. He might be great this year. Yeah, he's
not any good at all. Uh, this is what happens
when you know, you miss it, you swing and miss
on a draft pick. But look at what's out there, Like,
if Herbert's out there, you think, okay, things are possible,
but now look at them. There's no weapons. Right you try, Okay,
(12:49):
maybe lad McConkie will happen. Yeah, but they're not gonna
happen unless you have judge.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
But that's the thing is, there's guys that Herbert can
make happen, right right, If he's out there, might be
you know w R four's fives everywhere else, But you
can raise him up to it.
Speaker 1 (13:04):
Jimmy, if Jim Harbaugh's got any thought of Hey, in
the offseason, I can trade Justin Herbert and get a
guy I want to because we don't need to pay
this guy forty million a year. I want to run
the football all the time. Yeah, look at this offense
it's going out there. Look at this off it's three
points last week. Look at this off as you put
out there, so I understand Knights. Like tonight, when you
watch the Eagles play offense without Jalen Rds, you go, oh,
(13:25):
so this is what it would look like.
Speaker 3 (13:27):
Oh, would you bring in the former Ravens guys? And
you know my affinity for those two guys.
Speaker 1 (13:32):
Who can't stay healthy. Well, I didn't want to say it, Okay,
I didn't want to be the best you guys who can't.
But I'm a realist, you know what I mean. I've
watched it, I've watched it play out. I mean, I
understand it's it's it's new to Jim Harbaugh because like
my uncle, my uncle Jimmy would always Jimmy, he's had
this great thing, like he got me a muffler from
my car once. Yeah, and it was old, like he
got it off another car, but he said it was
(13:53):
in good shape. He put it on and I said,
how how old is this thing? Goes? What do you
mean old? I said, well, I said, well how old
is he goes? It's new to you. It's right in
your car. Your car's running fine. Now I'm like, oh, okay,
so what.
Speaker 3 (14:04):
He ran the old NBC ads actually what they would
do with summer reruns So for Jim Harbaugh.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
It's Oh, I love these two guys. Do you see
the last couple of years, they can't stay healthy, they
can't stay talk about me, it's new to me, Yeah exactly,
Oh yeah, hey.
Speaker 3 (14:20):
Da, what have we talked about for years with both
those organizations? How what's going on in the training rooms?
All these years? Here we go, but a new year
has begun and we got to watch that preseason Jim Exit.
Speaker 1 (14:36):

Speaker 1 (17:12):
I've been waiting all night. Best rock album since two thousand?
Oh really an idiot? Best rock album since two thousand?
A Lincoln Park, No, No, Lincoln Park's aid best rock album,
the win in media or come out? Oh two thousand
that was like three oh four something like that. Yeah,
(17:33):
it came out after two thousand.
Speaker 5 (17:34):
Okay, I'll give you it.
Speaker 1 (17:37):
All right, Hey you go, hot take American Idiot.
Speaker 5 (17:39):
That's good.
Speaker 1 (17:39):
Best rock album since two thousands.
Speaker 5 (17:41):
Would have thought. Almost at the end of the show,
you finally give us a good take.
Speaker 1 (17:43):
Wow, Hey, I gave you all your chance to pump
up Nicholas Cage last hours. He's playing John Madden a movie.
Speaker 5 (17:49):
I don't know I thought about him more. I don't
know if I want that.
Speaker 1 (17:51):
No, right, because you're saying you don't want that. Nobody
wants that. I don't know how that happened.
Speaker 5 (17:57):
It's kind of weird.
Speaker 1 (17:58):
It's a empire really, Okay, Okay, he's not playing John
Madden as a van How do you know? Now there's
the twist. Okay, well, maybe that would be pretty good.
Actually her seventies Hey Stabler, come here, just want to
give you a hug before the game. Maybe take a
bite of your neck a little bit of here. Okay, hey,
(18:20):
Van Egan, come on over, just gonna take a bite
to your.
Speaker 5 (18:25):
Next Nicholas Cage.
Speaker 1 (18:26):
I don't even know what the hell you're doing at
this Nicholas Cage. Like try to do a combo of
Nicholas Cage as John Madden talking about tating bite taking
bites out of seventies.
Speaker 3 (18:35):
Raiders legend, Haddy already taken bites out of Owen Wilson,
so he adopted.
Speaker 1 (18:39):
His voice like Jack Nicholson.
Speaker 2 (18:41):
Actually a little bit.
Speaker 1 (18:42):
I do get a little bit towards Owen Wilson A
little bit. Hey ya, I got doing sure Jack Teae
Wow Wow. Lester Hayes over here, Okay, Cliff branch One.
Speaker 5 (18:55):
He sounds like a scare Jack Nicholson.
Speaker 1 (19:02):
It'll have to ponder that I'm missing that part.
Speaker 3 (19:04):
But yeah, I do like that. We're all coming up
with different That might be a better movie. Different impression,
don Maddeness? What your impression is madness?
Speaker 1 (19:11):
A vampire? Okay? Then I could go. Then I'm like,
that's a new game show. Great. Who is Jason doing
an impression of no clue? Oh? That's good, Tyshir, you
should grab a whole bunch of my impressions from the
last like ten years. Just give your project to work
because he yeah, because he's got a lot of ten
And then we'll play a game called who am I
doing an impression of? Here?
Speaker 5 (19:29):
The cute thing, Mike is that he thinks we hold
on to stuff here.
Speaker 1 (19:32):
I know you have all of that stuff. There's no
way you play stuff that I can't believe. I even
said sometimes because I like those things. Yeah, but you
still grab them. Yeah. Hey man, the editors could be
right on that. Look man, he said he's got him.
I'm sure he's got him.
Speaker 3 (19:46):
Man.
Speaker 1 (19:46):
I'm just saying we have a database system that every
three months it says, hey man, we're kind of getting full.
Speaker 3 (19:51):
Every I bet it's got to Bruno takes in there
and then what stuff I've said?
Speaker 1 (19:56):
Three months? Do do we still have Sho Heo Tani's
thirty fifth home run? I don't think.
Speaker 5 (20:00):
We don't even think we have him on the team anymore.
Speaker 1 (20:03):
Do we have Drake May's touchdown run from tonight? I
don't think we did. No, we don't, Jason, I don't
even have your last segment. But we do have Tom
Brady in a day of returns. We'll get to another
big return coming up in a few minutes. Brady put
out a video on YouTube of I guess you could say,
(20:24):
like the best of his three days he spent in
Paris for the Olympics. We saw Brady there is there
with his daughter Vivian, watching the gymnastics, watching some own biles,
and so Brady puts together a video of what he
did while he was in Paris, Right puts it out
there and everybody got to see it today. And what's
got everybody's eyebrows up is when Brady was asked about
(20:46):
keeping himself in shape and why does he keep himself
in such good shape? This was Tom Brady's answer. Now
he says this as he's lounging on a boat in
the water, But this is Brady's answer for why he
keeps himself in such good shape.
Speaker 4 (21:00):
To make sure all those gung bucks in the NFL
know that if I still wanted to come out of retirement.
Speaker 1 (21:04):
All the way out, no way out, way.
Speaker 6 (21:06):
Out, they still got soccer dsu Now A spliced in
was the video that I've now seen too many times
of Brady on a boat throwing a pass to somebody
on a jet ski.
Speaker 3 (21:17):
Like I feel like I've seen that like twenty times now,
Like I think it's a mirage, though, is it cgi?
Or do you think really nailed that pass?
Speaker 2 (21:23):
No?
Speaker 1 (21:23):
Because that's really kind of you know, showing off at
that point. Well that's Brady. I wants to show you, hey,
I can still throw a football off off a boat
and hit a guy, uh, you know, thirty yard.
Speaker 3 (21:33):
We do an action movie with that we're now you know,
they're trying to attack his boat and he's got to
deploy football explode on contact jet ski.
Speaker 1 (21:41):
You go bigger than that. And I'm thinking too bad
because he's passed away. But like Robert Loja is the president,
and we are getting invaded by aliens, and our big
defense system is Tom Brady throwing footballs at chips as
they come down.
Speaker 3 (21:54):
That's not bad. We get him and Uncle Rico and
Edwin Diaz. Sure you play Narco. They come out and
there fir and stuff at these ships because he's got
a big army.
Speaker 6 (22:04):
There.
Speaker 1 (22:05):
No, he would be he would be throwing cans of
mayonnaise at people that would it would hit like their
window and the mayonnaise jar would open and it would
they wouldn't be able to see out of it, and
so that would be difficult. I think that, man, Hey, hey,
what's what's our what's our defense system against aliens? It's
Brady and Diaz and a bucket of balls. Okay, great,
(22:27):
I feel pretty good about that. It's a good start. Uh.
But there's Brady saying that, hey, I stay in shape
all of this, just to let all these young bucks
know if they come into the league. They still could
have me to to deal with. Now, there's two big
takes about Brady coming off of this. He's the first
one is this, I always thought Brady was going to
(22:48):
be someone who would very seamlessly go from the playing
field to whatever he was going to do. After some
of the greats, it's tough. You can't replace that sense
of competition, and it's difficult. Then Michael Jordan never found
the way. Kobe Bryant found the way right away, right like,
and some stars can do it, some stars can't. Peyton
Manning found the way right away. How do I go
(23:09):
from competing this is what I'm doing? And I never
thought that would be Brady because he's got so many
other interests. Right, He's got the TB twelve he does,
He's gonna be on TV with Fox this fall. He's
got a lot of things going on. Production, companies doing
movies eighty for Brady. Right, He's got a lot of stuff.
But here he is once again letting it slip. The Hey,
if I want to come out of retirement, like dude,
(23:31):
you gotta be able to let it go. I don't
know that he's going to be able to segue into
retirement without thinking I still can play. I still want
to play. That's the thing. I don't know that he
can give it up.
Speaker 3 (23:40):
But the point is that he was still playing at
a high level. Was it diminished from his peak? Yeah,
but he can still play. Jordan was slow, old, broken down,
but mentally still wanted to crush you. Kobe physically was done.
Peyton Manning had been surgically repaired, propped up for another
suit Bowl.
Speaker 1 (24:00):
Yeah, he knew he was. He was done. He was right.
Speaker 3 (24:02):
Whereas Brady, reasonably you could have said before this last season,
what is he still top ten, top fifteen? Right even
now having not played for a year. You watch quarterback
and we've been talking about it tonight with some of
the young young guys trying to go, and that's first
second team is there's still a number of teams still
(24:23):
think I'd probably put him in the upper half, even
if he hasn't thrown a pass in eighteen months.
Speaker 1 (24:28):
I mean, so I get it like that.
Speaker 3 (24:30):
Physically, he's looking at this as he's prepping for his
Fox job and being like, damn it, I'm still better
than all these guys.
Speaker 1 (24:36):
And still it's a different part in his life. Look,
he had a lot of marital difficulty, everything going on
at the end with Giselle Bunch and his decision to
unretire and come back and play, and then the divorce,
and he's been, you know, fighting that battle very publicly
over the course of the last eighteen plus months. So
it's a very tumultuous time. He retires, he unretires, he plays,
(24:56):
he retires again. This is a point, Now, why are
you still talking about playing if you don't really want
to play? Right? So, when you think about how the
difficulty he has giving up football, now, how is he
going to replace that every day? The answer is, look
at him. He doesn't want to now. He doesn't want
to be a player to come I'm gonna go to
training camp and playoff season. He wants to do what
(25:18):
Roger Clemens did at the end of his career with
the Yankees. And I don't, man, I don't mean steroids.
What he wants to allegend sorry allegedly A sorry, maybe
I misremembered, I'm sorry, but allegedly is that what Clemens
wanted was, Hey, I don't want to pitch the whole season.
I want to spend time with my kids, be around
and then Hey, for the Pennant race and in the playoffs,
(25:38):
that's what I want to come and pitch. And I'm
in George's box and look at him, and that's what
Clemens did. Brady wants you to know this is what
I can do. So he keeps throwing that out there. Hey,
in November, if your quarterback gets hurt, Miami, Dallas, San Francisco,
your quarterback gets hurt, I can come in play five
or six weeks. Again, we're in the playoff, and my
(26:01):
knowledge I can still throw the football. I'll come in
and be able to master your offense. I know the players.
I can still do this. I don't know that this
is gonna be something we're not going to be talking
about next year and the year after. Like, I can
still do this till I'm fifty. I can still come
out of retirement and play. And he wants teams to
continue to know just in case you think I'm really retired,
(26:22):
I can still do it, Because why would he say this.
He knows what's gonna get out there. People are gonna
say things. You know, his agent is taking phone calls,
but you know it's not gonna happen for a while. Again,
this is not gonna be Hey, I want to show
up now and go play for the vikings. No, no, no,
I'm about super Bowls. Right like Lebron has a got
away Finals y, Brady's about super Bowls. If you have
a contending team that's really good and their quarterback is
(26:44):
hurt or he stinks by the time you get the
Thanksgiving call me because that's my time to get ready.
Give me a couple of weeks. I'll come back. We're
ready to go into the playoffs. Just get me into
the playoffs with a chance to win. That's all that
he's gonna say. And he's gonna be able to He's
going to talk about doing this for the next couple
of years. You'll get at least now it's August. He'll
give you another reminder. Sometime in September. He'll be on
(27:05):
TV for Fox. He'll allude to something and say, you know,
if I was playing, I mean, I'm not, but if
I was, And he'll do things like that just to
let people know, Hey, it's in the back of my mind.
Something happens in my quarterback. Brady's my call.
Speaker 3 (27:19):
But we've talked to how many former players through the years,
folks that have worked with us here at Fox Sports Radio.
The edge always comes as camps get underway. Particularly you know,
if you didn't get to end as you wanted it to,
and look for most football players, most hell and almost
every walk of life, it doesn't quite end necessarily the
(27:40):
way you wanted to, think of some of the jobs
and careers and shifts that you've had to make.
Speaker 1 (27:46):
Through the years.
Speaker 3 (27:46):
But you know, for Tom Brady, you leave the door open.
I gotta wonder if every one of his Fox meetings, like, yeah,
the prerequisite for Tom sitting in is that you've got
to give him a copy of your full offensive playbook
Why No Reason, Week eleven, the bat phone rings and
away we go. But yeah, you keep the door open, right.
(28:07):
Aaron Donald's creeping around Rams practice again. Jason Kelsey. I
know he's leaner and meaner, and you know all that
podcast money he might be flowing through, and he's got
his media jobs as well, but he can't detach himself
from Eagles training camp, so there's still a lot of
speculation about him.
Speaker 1 (28:25):
It's hard to let go.
Speaker 3 (28:26):
It's hard to say, all right, that part of my
life is done, particularly when physically you feel most days
you're still pretty good, and then you look at what's
replacing you around the league. It's like I'm better than
him and him. I prepped and we did a practice game.
You know, we sat and we did two of these games.
Guess what, I was better than all four of those
guys that were the quarterbacks.
Speaker 1 (28:48):
That mother blaker over me. But that's just it.
Speaker 3 (28:51):
That's not going to go away, and that's part of
who he is. Hell, they're doing the big things fanatics
this weekend right it really opens tomorrow, but today they
had some of the previews and go through a we've
done some reads and they partner up a little bit
with us here at Fox and iHeartMedia is you know,
they're doing all this huge card show and a bunch
of panels or whatever and autograph signings, photos or whatever.
(29:13):
He did the whole I'm coming out of the tunnel
like I'm whole Kogan, complete with the real American music
and everything. Not a lot of people there to cheer
him on, but same thing. Hey he's coming out of
a tunnel and he's getting a response. Is he walking
out of the tunnel? Is he walking there?
Speaker 1 (29:29):
And this is there? You go, this is perfect for me,
be black dress or blue dress. If nobody gets hurt
and there's no opportunity, well then I'm retired. But if
there is, I could scratch that itch one more time. Right,
he's not gonna go out there if he thinks he's
gonna embarrass him. Sure, I know that, and he knows.
I can't do this for a whole season, right, my
(29:50):
arm would be shot. I couldn't do it. But seven
or eight games, yeah, I can do it. It's the same.
It's the same reason why why were Lebron and KD
and Steph able to dominate the because all over thirty five.
But they're only playing a certain number of games, and
the games are shorter, and you're not playing as many
minutes you're playing if you're playing a lot, you're playing
(30:10):
twenty eight to twenty minute. You're not traveling, you get
a couple of days off. Says, no way, That's why
it's those guys can keep it going at that high
level for a short amount of time. When it gets
long is when you get to the playoffs and it's
a game every other night and you're flying and you're
playing thirty eight minutes after an eighty two game, regular season.
This was the guys have had some time off. They
(30:30):
go to one location, they play every two or three days,
and a heavy day of playing is twenty eight minutes.
Speaker 3 (30:35):
And all three of them knew it was the only
chance they're winning another title. So you got that. By
the way, I was telling you about this trading cards, right,
So Tops and Greenie both do a thing. It's an
instant kind of print on to demand. So they signed
a deal with Lebron and Steph and KD. I have
no idea what they got for the autograph, but it's
(30:55):
literally one autograph card of the three.
Speaker 1 (30:57):
Kay.
Speaker 3 (30:58):
Wow, they've never appeared on an autograph, yeah, right, in
different combinations, sticker autographs, whatever. But they're signing one card
and it's gonna be randomly inserted with So they did
a base card that has pictures of all three of them, Okay,
commemorating the the Olympic Gold. Five hundred and eighty eight
thousand cards were sold. Now how many orders that is?
(31:20):
Because they haven't broken it down. You can order them
as one single card, five card, ten card, or twenty
card packs, but they're gonna insert one of those. There's
already bounties that are exceeding two hundred thousand dollars for
that card out there, So in the next two weeks
we'll see someone potentially win the lottery.
Speaker 1 (31:37):
And maybe the next two weeks someone will sign a
card and buy a card autographed by you. Me and
Steve de say, let's go, who's got what's trending right
now in the wide world of sports? That's d happy contribute. Yeah,
get me a good photo, Steve. Well, we'll have a
custom one made. Let's go. Is that how you spelled
the saga? Are you sure? Are you sure? It just
has a giant d's.
Speaker 7 (31:57):
To sign it with different letters than what is printed below.
And then it'll be some one of those error cards
you sign over Jason's picture, and.
Speaker 1 (32:07):
Or I'll give you a baseball bat that says blank
you on the handle and then that's you can all that,
wasn't it? Bump Wills had an error car that was
worth blue Jay's Rangers. Yeah, long team. Yeah, so we've
done that.
Speaker 7 (32:18):
I have that card, You've got the h the blank
face which you referenced Rick Ken, Yeah, thanks for bringing.
Speaker 3 (32:24):
Which they did, well, say farmer in which they had
fun with. In the twenty twenty four tops set as.
Speaker 1 (32:31):
Well this year's Yeah.
Speaker 7 (32:33):
Speaking of the Orioles, they are now tied for first
with the Yankees in the AL East. Gunner Henderson with
his thirty first homer and at Baltimore the O's beat
Boston five to one. The wind is Zach Effln six innings,
eight strikeouts. Philadelphia, Well, somebody named Weston Wilson for the
Phillies hit for the cycle. Tonight they beat Washington thirteen
to three, Zach Wheeler, six innings, six strikeouts. He's now
(32:55):
twelve and five after getting the win.
Speaker 1 (32:57):
Did you know this? He's married to Sheena Easton and
her name is now Sheena east and west and Wilson.
Speaker 7 (33:05):
I just went along with it because at the beginning
I thought, okay, you can't possibly be married.
Speaker 1 (33:11):
Okay.
Speaker 7 (33:11):
Never The late Bowl game was on FS one Minnesota
with a sackfly on the top of the ninth one
at Texas three to two, beating closer Kirby Yates. By
the way, Houston winners of eight straight off Tonight, they're
first in the AL West, now three games up on Seattle.
Seattle was beaten two to one at Detroit today. Tigers
have won four in a row. They won with a
(33:32):
two r on homer bottom of the eighths today by
Hobby Bias. Tigers had just three hits in this game,
but the Mariners offense went one for twenty eight. The
Oakland A's were down five nothing at the Mets after
three innings, but beating New York seven to six the
save to Mason Miller. Milwaukee with three runs bottom of
the eighth down the Dodgers six to four. LA's lead
in the NL West down to two games over Arizona
(33:52):
and San Diego. Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich will have season
ending back surgery tomorrow. San Francisco shout out at L
six nothing Logan Webb over Max Freed. The Braves offense
went four for thirty one. NFL exhibition tonight, the Eagles
won at New England fourteen thirteen with a late touchdown
and a two point pass. No NFL games tomorrow. Most
(34:13):
teams will play this Saturday. Bills linebacker Matt Mulatto will
miss at least a few months with the torn biceps.
Quarterback Russell Wilson, coming back from the calf injury, we'll
make his Steelers preseason debut Saturday night against the Bills.
The team's held a joint practice today. Dallas quarterback Dak
Prescott practice fully today, says his ankle is fine. Texans
backup QB Davis Mills has missed practice all week after
(34:36):
it hit to the ribs last weekend. Giants quarterback Daniel
Jones will start Saturday against Houston, returning from last year's
torn ACL. The Giants signed running back Joshua Kelly, Atlanta
signed free agent safety Justin Simmons. Saints running back Alvin
Kamara still out with back tightness, and Rams quarterback Jimmy
Garoppolo will not play Saturday against the Chargers. They'll give
the reps to Stetson Bennett again.
Speaker 1 (34:58):
Back to you. Maybe five interceptions on Saturday and I
was there, Thank you, Steve. The Jason Smith Show with
my best friend Mike Carmon coming up next. Yes, return
of the NFL for week two. Maybe return of Tom Brady,
another big return tonight that I admit I couldn't wait for.
That's next rid here Jason and Mike Fox.
Speaker 2 (35:19):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (35:30):
Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show is my best
Friend Mike Harmon live from the Tirack dot Com studios.
You know, in a night of returns, I gotta be
honest with you, I was really excited. And you know
when I knew this, Okay, great, yep, WNBA is coming
back on Thursday. You're great, fired up? I know I didn't.
(35:53):
I knew i'd miss it when it went away because
it's just been so much fun. The drama is fun.
Speaker 3 (35:58):
Well, just everybody being angry, everybody just because it's managed. Yeah,
it's kind of in between the white lines and then
a lot of stupidity and social media and sports talk
radio and TV.
Speaker 1 (36:11):
Absolutely, you know, they don't like each other, they don't
respect each other, they want credit for things. The competition
on the court is great, the arguments over who's having
the best year, who to take to the Olympics.
Speaker 3 (36:21):
But just think Reeve eventually is going to be asked
all these questions down and she's bad, remember because she
got mad about the Olympics.
Speaker 1 (36:27):
Now that's not anymore. We're gonna ask you. And really
I kind of felt like like when someone recommends a
TV show to me and I binge the first season,
I go, wow, that was really good. I can't wait
for the second season. And I look and go, oh,
it's coming out in a month because it's a you
know show I missed for a year. Oh great, Oh man,
(36:48):
this is coming out in a month. Like that's kind
of how I felt.
Speaker 3 (36:51):
Well.
Speaker 1 (36:51):
WNBA goes away for a month, but man, I can't
wait for it to come back, and it's coming back
really soon. And it came back tonight, and look, let's
let's be honest about things because it's time to be
because coming back from the Olympics and after the WNBA break,
it's time for everybody to realize, no matter what you feel,
how much you feel about pettiness or jealousy, this is
(37:12):
Caitlin Clark's league. But it always goes back to what
I've been saying alongside you all these years and all
my time here at Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (37:21):
I can't tell you how to feel. I can explain
why I do or how I think and try to
get you to come around to my side. But facts
are facts, right. Steve de Sayer gave out the details
before right. Eighteen games have had a rating on TV
of a million, plus sixteen of them involved Caitlyn Cyah.
Speaker 1 (37:42):
I mean, I know that I feel like it's contractually
obligated that when you say Caitlin Clark's name, you have
to say Angel Reese's name, which you really don't because honestly, well,
we don't worry. She's popular. She's popular, but she's not
nearly the star Caitlyn Clarks. I'm sorry she is not.
There's a difference. We talk about w a coming statue.
There's no butter statue. There's Caitlyn Knights and there's non
(38:05):
Caitlyn Knights in WNBA. There's nights when Caitlyn Clark plays
and boy the attention on it, and there's night when
Kitlyn Clark doesn't play. Look, tonight was a night Angel
Rees played. Didn't have a great game, shot four at
a fourteen, pulled down fifteen rebounds, you had a double double.
That's all that matters, right, But right, four out of fourteen, Amula,
it shouldn't even be close for Rookie of the Year.
But again, this is all just gonna be whatever Caitlyn
(38:25):
Clark backlash there is. But look, Manger Reese is a
big star. You can even say she's the second biggest
star on the WNBA. I have no problem with that.
I agree with that, But the difference and the distance
between her and Kitlyn Clark, you can't compare it all, Right,
Indiana just got the All Star Game next year, not Scott.
Indiana got the All Star Everything that happens in the
WNBA is because of Caitlyn Clark and the interest level
(38:48):
and what goes on Knights. Caitlin Clark doesn't play compared
to Knights. When Kaitlyn Clark does play, you can't compare it. Right.
She's the show. And everybody coming back from the WNBA
has had a month to sit back and go, Okay,
what do we know about this? What have we seen?
Have time to look back at the last couple of months. Boy,
it's really Caitlyn and it's her league. And then you
know what, the Olympic players saying the same thing. They're
(39:10):
coming back from where they were realizing that, boy, our
guards were terrible, we still won the gold medal. We're
coming back. You have to realize, Okay, it's it's Caitlyn's league.
No matter what. If you're upset, you're petty, you're jealous,
you're not getting the credit. But you have to understand,
even as reticent as you are to it, that this
is Caitlin Clark's league. She's the big star of the league,
and you could be upset about it, but that doesn't
(39:31):
change it. That's what it is. What we got.
Speaker 3 (39:33):
We got game one tomorrow. They are, unfortunately think for
the second half of this schedule as it runs smack
dab into the start of college football and the NBA.
So a lot of the voices that have been on
here and sometimes talking like they have their foot in
their mouth, they'll just go to the wayside. So those
that wanted people to go away and and keep it
(39:54):
to themselves, you're.
Speaker 1 (39:55):
Gonna get your wish here, yeah said. But it still
a lot of folks there in the week with games
still gonna be time to talk about it. Don't we
play anymore? I no, no, not yet. The playoffs still
gonna be a big deal. And until then, right, we
still have the next few weeks. Get ready because Caitlin Clark.
You watch her hit the court tomorrow after a month
break of living her best life and meeting Aaron Judge
(40:17):
and being on stage singing at concerts. You watch her
run rough shot over the league the next month. Just watch,
just watch, He's out a month to sit. That's how
it's gonna be a how about a fresca? He is
so giddy. And another week of preseason football starters are
gonna play. They tell me Jason for Mike, come Jason
rindomor for Doug Gottlie from twelve to two catches right
(40:39):
here on Fox Sports Radio. Coming up next is my
buddy Ben Mallor. This is Fox Sports Radio. Nicholas Cage
is John Madden, yell
