Listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Hello, Welcome inside final hour tonight the Jason Smith Show
with my bass friend Mike harmonbo live from the ti
rack dot Com studios tirerac dot com. I hope you
get there in unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road
hazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tirac dot
com is the way tire buying should be well. Day

(00:52):
one of the NCAA Tournament is in the books, and
the biggest upset of the day.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
You think is McNeice beating Clemson.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
It is not.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
It's not.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
It is not really the biggest upset of the night
and day. On Day one of the nca Tournament, Bronnie
James leading the Lakers in scoring. Tonight, both he and
Dalton Connect scored seventeen each Bronnie James in thirty minutes
off the bench. The Lakers starting lineup tonight was Maris Hayes,

(01:23):
Vincent Goodwin and connect. Okay, we're kind of giving this
game to the Bucks. But Bronnie James off the bench
for seventeen five assists. He led the Lakers in scoring tonight.
Light it up seven to ten minute, let's go. If
I said to you, and this is where you know
we gotta get, you know, Todd Furman back on the
case or in Sarder Vega. If I said to you

(01:45):
the beginning of the year, I want to place a
bet that one time this year Bronnie will lead the
Lakers in scoring. What kind of odds would I have
been given?

Speaker 3 (01:55):
What kind of odds? I will send that along to him.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
I mean, is that in the in the tens of thousands?
Is it ten thousand to one? Is it a thousand
to one?

Speaker 4 (02:06):
I mean the White Sox are only five hundred to
one the World Series?

Speaker 1 (02:09):
No, come on, you're missing a couple of zeros on that.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
No, it's it. I just looked it up.

Speaker 4 (02:14):
You're just talking about, you know, futures odds for the
Mets and the Dodgers and all of this fun stuff
and looked at the White Sox. They're one of three
teams with odds of five hundred to one. So Bronni's
not gonna be.

Speaker 1 (02:26):
Okay, okay, okay, what if it was this if I said, okay,
after the Lakers got Luca and I wanted to pick
a game the rest of the season, now there's less games, Yeah,
that Bronny would lead the Lakers and score it were Sam,
does that get me the thousands?

Speaker 5 (02:41):
There would have to be a thing where they would say, yes,
they take the bet, but it's gonna be a game
where Lebron or Luca don't play, right.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
Right, you have to and is that gonna happen? And
even if that does happen, is he going to lead
the Lakers? That has to happen for him to lead it?

Speaker 3 (02:55):
Oh yeah, yeah sure right?

Speaker 1 (02:56):
So you you would be banking on both of them
missing the game game and him playing well enough to
lead the team in scoring, right, Like yeah, because remember
you know Austin Reeves in this game either, right, So
it would be all these guys and Reeves wouldn't do
it anybody, Okay, Like that's I mean, that's really long. Odds, Man,
I can't be that long. I I I gotta, I gotta.

Speaker 5 (03:18):
They're pretty good.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
Yeah, but you don't know this. You don't know that all.

Speaker 4 (03:23):
Wait, I'm gonna try to get Lebron James mad at me.
Let me post this on Twitter.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
Wow, he'll get mad. What'll get odds? He'll get mad?
Like man landing on? What?

Speaker 6 (03:34):
What?

Speaker 3 (03:34):
What? U do you want to land on?

Speaker 1 (03:36):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (03:37):
Where do you want to land on?

Speaker 7 (03:38):
Now?

Speaker 3 (03:38):
Uranus? Wait? Whoa, whoa, whoa?

Speaker 1 (03:41):
I just shirt wo No, but that was that movie
they went to Uranus. Uh at astra there was like
a shootout. There was a shootout on the moon in
that movie.

Speaker 3 (03:55):
We had a shootout on the moon.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
They had also had a They had a car chase
on the moon in that movie too. Okay, well I'm
sorry no wait wait, car chase on the moon. Shootout
was in uh for all Mankind? That's right, sorry spoiler,
shootout was in for all mankind?

Speaker 4 (04:13):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (04:13):
The the Yeah, they had the Uh they had the
Fast and the Furious.

Speaker 3 (04:17):
Uh how about that, Matt.

Speaker 5 (04:20):
This is the part of the show where you take
the two by four and hit.

Speaker 4 (04:22):
Him over that dude and then we married droids earlier.
First of all, we had all sorts of stuff going on.

Speaker 1 (04:27):
First of all, ad Astra is the worst title for
even though it is a space thing. Worst title for me.
The first fifty five minutes of that.

Speaker 3 (04:34):
Movie, you're waiting for to show up.

Speaker 1 (04:36):
No, No, it's pretty good, Carl. No, the first fifty
five minutes was pretty good. And then the rest of
it got really really, just really long. And Okay, Carl
comes floating by on They're al like an airplane too,
They're floating by outside outside the space shuttle.

Speaker 2 (04:59):
Waving everybody.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
Hey, it's the latter.

Speaker 1 (05:01):
Uh So Bronni j leading the Lakers and scoring with
seventeen Why because I never would have thought this would happened.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
This is like something that.

Speaker 4 (05:10):
Said is a very big convergence. This is the way
the Lakers steal back the headlines. Nah from the NCAA tournament.

Speaker 3 (05:17):
Okay, okay again and from Roki Sasaki.

Speaker 1 (05:20):
Yeah, I mean well, sir, if I said to a
year ago, hey, Bronni's gonna have a big day the
first day of the nca tournament, you're gonna say, oh, well,
USC wins the game, he'll be a Laker, And yeah,
he's gonna score seventeen, so it's gonna go.

Speaker 3 (05:32):
Meanwhile, as we.

Speaker 1 (05:33):
Get set for night too now, putting day Night one
to bed, we thought we might have some upsets late. However,
UCLA winds up blowing out Utah State to win, Michigan survives,
and Texas Tech pulls.

Speaker 3 (05:44):
Away at the end.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
Uh. The best news for all of us. And this
gets even bigger news. Cooper Flagg will play all right,
We saw this earlier today and this is great news
for all of us. Cooper Flag gonna play for Duke,
his ankle is well enough for him to play.

Speaker 3 (05:58):
John Shire seemed to talk.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
About a head coach Duke that that there wasn't gonna
be a lot of physical limitations for Cooper Flagg. He's
moving great, he's feeling great, and he's gonna play tomorrow. Now. Obviously,
will as minutes be be less, Yeah, because you know,
when you're playing a one to sixteen game, how much
you're really gonna need it. Fred's thirty two, thirty two,
and nobody's upset to be an underdog at thirty two

(06:21):
points in this game, unlike some other g everybody's mad
they didn't get seated high enough on the women's side
of things. You got people mad here, were you know,
dis disrespected at a twenty eight and a half points.
Great are So he's going to play. I'm sure his
minutes will be down. Will play probably twenty some odd
minutes if they need him for that many because clearly

(06:43):
you know when you play a one eight nine game
on Sunday, you'll need.

Speaker 3 (06:46):
Him for that one. Yeah, I'd give him the layup line.
He looks good.

Speaker 1 (06:50):
But number one, this tournament needs a star more than
almost any other NCAA tournament.

Speaker 6 (06:56):
Right.

Speaker 1 (06:56):
You have the last couple of years where the women's
tournament because of the star power of Caitlin Clark and
other players in Angel Reese and now Page Becker's and
Juju Watkins and they're they're really starting to gain a
foothold because hey, we like seeing stars, and they were stars,
and Caitlin Clark was the biggest. In fact, every single
I think every single Indiana Fever practice is televised nationally

(07:19):
next year. I think that was the story today that
America's team, the Indiana Fever are America's.

Speaker 4 (07:25):
Team bother to take the other three forty one.

Speaker 1 (07:28):
Of the forty four games, the Indiana Fever are playing
are Green nationally televised.

Speaker 3 (07:33):
You know he's not happy about that.

Speaker 4 (07:37):
Angel Rees already mad that there were Caitlin Clark billboards
in Chicago.

Speaker 2 (07:42):
To disrespect me. It's like, no, no, it's just sell merch.

Speaker 3 (07:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
Uh so this tournament needs a star, and it needs
Cooper Flagg. It's not even about needing Duke. It's needing
a superstar. Because college basketball the last few years, Yeah,
we get stars once in a while, they don't stay
very long. But you need a big star for your run,
especially on a one seed where you're expected to go far. Look,
the two biggest stars of the tournament right now are

(08:08):
Cooper Flag and Rick Patino. Those are your two biggest stars.
You need both of them as long as you can.
And we get Calatino on Saturday, hashtag t shirts coming Calatino,
So you need Cooper Flag for this one. The other
part of it is this, This is why I think
we can all win again. Cooper Flagg is coming back
to play in the tournament. He has a feeling for

(08:28):
Duke more than Zion's feeling for Duke, which was more, Hey,
I'm at Duke for a year because I gotta go
somewhere public.

Speaker 3 (08:34):
Go to the NBA.

Speaker 1 (08:36):
Flag seems to talk about Duke and it's just a different,
a different feely has. If I was a betting guy,
I would say, Cooper Flagg comes back to Duke for
another year, really, because you want to put yourself in
a position to succeed at the next level. And Cooper
Flag's making money now, he's not making the you know,

(08:57):
the money he would make as a as a number
one overall pick the NBA draft. But I'm sure he's
doing really well in the in the multiple millions of dollars.
A guy's got a march mad. I can't say it.

Speaker 2 (09:08):
I can't.

Speaker 1 (09:10):
He's got a commercial on you know what he's getting
to go to Duke the nil and it would but
just even more, how much is it gonna be? Let's
pony up to get Cooper Flagg to stay again next year?
So you know the money is the money is not
a real thing anymore for players saying, oh, should I
go to the league now? No, I can still make
a lot of money here and the league will be
there for me next year. He's the number one pick
this year, He'll be the number one pick next year.

(09:31):
And all this, Oh he could get hurt. It doesn't matter.
He'll be the number one overall pick next year if
he stays. When you examine the teams that can pick
number one overall in the draft now, the way the
calendar goes is you're gonna get the underclassman have to announce,
then you get the lottery, and then you get your
chance to pull your name back. So Cooper Flagg's gonna
get to see everything before he makes his decision. There's

(09:54):
not a lot of teams that are gonna wind up
being the lottery that, barring a trade, I can say,
oh yeah, that's a great destination for him to start
his career, because there's a difference between teams having bad
years and being in the lottery and just teams that
are bad that when you examine their their present futures,
it's that's really where you want to go. You think

(10:15):
that's you're gonna go, and you're gonna build yourself up. Right,
You're gonna you're gonna do it in Brooklyn or Charlotte
or or Toronto. You're gonna do it, really, gonna do
it in in in Portland or I I it's not
a great group of teams for him now, clearly could
a team overwhelm somebody with an offer to get that
number one overall pick. And if Cooper Flagg plays a
little Eli Manning hardball, saying yeah, I don't know if

(10:37):
I'm gonna stay. I'm I might, I'm I'm gonna might
not go, I might stay. Yeah, I could see that.
I'm not saying there's no there's no path for it.
But right now, if I was a betting guy, I
would say he goes back to Duke just because the
possibilities aren't great for him there. They're they're not they're
not great. And you could always come back another year
and say, Okay, let's try it next year and see
where we're at, because eventually you're gonna have to go.

(10:58):
You just want to go when you know, Okay, I'm
maximizing things. I don't know that there's a worse group
of teams that you can go to to say, Okay,
we're gonna have a future. Look at Zion, Look at
all Zion in New Orleans. Look at what's gonna happen.
He couldn't stay healthy. He had to sign with the
Max there in New Orleans again, because New Orleans, no
one else would pay him because he got hurt, and
here he is, New Orleans can't even sniff the playoffs.
They can barely even sniff it. So he understands that, boy,

(11:20):
just because I am ready doesn't mean going is gonna
be a lead pipe sinch, Because if you're Zion, would
you think about doing that differently? Again, of course you would.
You could look where you're at now, you're into your career,
your injury prone, your team can't make the playoffs. You
had to sign with them. You thought maybe you would
go New Orleans to another to a bigger franchise like
the Lakers or the Knicks, or the Heat or the Celtics,

(11:41):
And now look where you are. So it's a cautionary
tail there coming out of Duke, that hey, just because
you're the number one pick doesn't mean it's a great destination.
If I'm betting right now, he goes back to Duke.

Speaker 4 (11:50):
Now he also gonna eschewed the Max and gone into
the marketplace, And I'm sure there would have been suitors.
You're not getting anywhere near the And let's be frank
about it, I think it was one of the most
ridiculed contracts in recent memory. Now when he's on the court,
he's still ridiculous pogo stick right, averaging about twenty five

(12:11):
points per game, solid rebound, solid assists.

Speaker 3 (12:14):
But night to night is are we getting Zion or
are we not?

Speaker 4 (12:19):
For Cooper Flag the last number one pick Resashay four
years about fifty eight million dollars, So you got that,
and he certainly has referenced his love of being at
Duke and playing at Duke. Back on the tenth of
the month, Bovada had the odds of Duke at plus
two ninety as the leaders in the clubhouse, ahead of

(12:42):
the Hornets, Wizards, Jazz, Pelicans, Nets, Sixers, Raptors, Bulls. Now, now,
the Sixers are interesting, right because we're seeing the shake
it up there and you can go jump into Philadelphia,
be a fun place to go play your first contract.

Speaker 3 (12:58):
The Bulls are seeming fighting.

Speaker 4 (13:01):
Their way to be part of the play in or better,
so they're being the next guy in Chicago alongside Kobe
White seems to be dissipating a bit.

Speaker 3 (13:10):
Thirty five for him tonight.

Speaker 1 (13:12):
Yeah, all of a sudden, he'said, you look at the
player thirty five every game.

Speaker 4 (13:17):
Now, I told you before the season he was he
was your favorite player's favorite player on a crappy team,
Kevin Durant's. It's like people used to talk about Matthew
Stafford when he was Oh yeah, sure, same thing. Kobe
Bryant Man, Kobe White, that kid can play boy, he's great.

Speaker 3 (13:33):
Well, they lost by thirty and then they'd win the night.

Speaker 1 (13:36):
But either way, all those teams scored thirty and they
lost by that.

Speaker 4 (13:40):
It's kind of like Bronny with his seventeen tonight and
they lost by what twenty nine? But all that to
say for Cooper Flag, I like the cut of your jib,
the theory. I think I'd be more in line if
he didn't play a minute in this tournament that wanting
to play and represent Duke in the NCAA tournament would
get him to come back a year.

Speaker 1 (14:01):
Or what if they win? I want to go win again.
I can go win again. Or you get to the
final four and you fall just short, you fall just short.
All I want to get back. I want to get
that again, want to get it again.

Speaker 3 (14:13):
We'll see what if it's as good as you get,
Cooper Flang.

Speaker 1 (14:16):
I think Duke. I think Duke will be okay. I
think they'll bring guys in I'm not not too worried
about Duke. Why don't worry?

Speaker 3 (14:21):
I mean they'd only be a sophomore then, right.

Speaker 1 (14:24):

So lock it in and rip off the nob Rip
the knob off is rip the knob off, not rip
off rip the knob.

Speaker 2 (16:46):
Yeah, but that's not grammatically correct.

Speaker 1 (16:48):
It doesn't matter. It sounds better on the radio. Lent
Mico a lot more violent.

Speaker 3 (16:54):
Oh okay, rip the knob off. Lock it in and
rip off that knob.

Speaker 5 (16:59):
Yeah, that's gonna hurt, doesn't am head?

Speaker 2 (17:01):
Rip off to bleeping' nub.

Speaker 1 (17:05):
So uh T shirts are on the way as hashtag Calatino.

Speaker 3 (17:09):
Is ready to go.

Speaker 2 (17:09):
I don't have that.

Speaker 1 (17:10):
I mean, Pitty Parry is pretty good, but uh Calatino
because we are now getting Rick Patino and John Calipari
on Saturday, Saint John's and Arkansas to be a lot
of red in that game. Uh so exciting though Saint
John's and I was nervous. You know, they're down seven
to nothing and Omaha, looks like they're full of energy
and Patino is pissed. I'm going come on, man, you're

(17:31):
you're my NCAA Tournament champion. I'm all in on Saint Chuck.
Come on, man, come on Patino, my boyhood team.

Speaker 3 (17:37):
You can't do this.

Speaker 4 (17:38):
But it was funny because because I was telling Ian
very much, you know that living and dying, Like I
felt better when when I had Clemson that I thought
they were a final fourteen, like we could make a
bit out of it. And then I didn't pick him
that far, so it didn't matter whereas you.

Speaker 1 (17:54):
My team is the team I grew up watching, like
before I went to Syracuse. I'm like, this is taking
me back. I'm just all all the memories. It's awesome,
take you back. And Rick Patino talked about the matchup
with John Calipari following sat Because then Saint John's at halftime,
I'm sure the halftime speech from Rick Patino was maybe

(18:14):
not something we're gonna see because we can't really here.
It is gonna be a steady stream of bleeps. But
he did talk about the matchup coming up Saturday with Arkansas.
Here is Rick Patino with a bottle of white at
a bottle of.

Speaker 6 (18:28):
I've always had great respect for John. I've always said
I told a team we have not seen this type
of size and this type of athleticism. All year, we
have not seen that create as a seven two center,
but they have multiple guys. Athleticism wise, we haven't seen
this this year, so we know what we're up against. Obviously,

(18:49):
they had a lot of injuries, that's why they opened
up and five. But they got it together right now.
And if they I don't know where they finished in
the SEC, eighth, ninths in the SEC, but if they
finished eighth and ninth, what I much today? I'm glad
we're not the SEC so because that's the talent level
and that conference is amazing to me.

Speaker 1 (19:06):
Yeah, I'm glad we're playing guys like Ryan Kalchbrenner, who's
been at Creton for like fourteen years now and as
owns the block shot record all of college basketball. I
think say, I think after today he had like five
more blocks than Kalkbrenners needs like like ten more in
the tournament to become like the all time shot blocker
leader in college something like that.

Speaker 2 (19:25):
That's pretty cool.

Speaker 3 (19:25):
Yeah, he doesn't. I mean he's been at Creton long
enough well sure.

Speaker 4 (19:29):
But I mean with COVID years and injury years, and
I mean there's so much transfer years back in the day,
and there's so much you could do to really extend
the college experience.

Speaker 2 (19:38):
I am.

Speaker 3 (19:39):
I am here in year seven.

Speaker 1 (19:41):
I am not as scared of this game as I
am of games later on in the tournament because the
teams that Saint John's would give them a lot of
trouble as if, boy, if you can make a lot
of threes, because Saint John's is not that kind of
offensive team. Their best player, Look, arg Lewis is a
great player, right, biggest player of the year, but he
is a great two way player. He's athletic, he's that's
the tone for them defensively. But they're not gonna hit

(20:02):
a bunch of threes, right. Cadari Richmond's not a guy
that hits a bunch of threes. Another Syracuse guy I gotta
watch play in the tournament. Him and Kadeer Copeland form
anymore who should be playing in the same backcourt for
Syracuse and maybe we'd be in the tournament. But no, no, no,
these guys are leaving for Seaton Hall and McNeese because
Syracuse programmed in the bleeping toilet. But I'm not as
scared about this game as are about games coming up.

(20:24):
So I feel even though it seems to well, John
Calipari isn't gonna play a minute in this game, So
I feel I feel good about the overall Saint John's
talent going into this game and their defense.

Speaker 3 (20:35):
I feel good all about.

Speaker 4 (20:37):
The defensive side of things and taking care of business
early look shots will fall. And we saw a lot
of games in low scoring, right, I mean, you saw
really huge droughts. Go back to I keep mocking the
Clemson first half effort. They scored thirteen points and for
some of these teams, including Saint John's, first half was
pretty ugly. Maybe you need to get some of the

(20:59):
nerves out, Maybe you need to get that shooting background
to make a little more sense for it, whatever it is.
Because you're not getting the same workouts right as parts
of these facilities.

Speaker 3 (21:10):
Uh and the heavy use. So I can't wait to
watch you sweat it.

Speaker 4 (21:16):
I think we're gonna work with Pam and Zoe to
get a camera hooked up wherever you're sitting down to
watch the game so we can watch you sweat.

Speaker 3 (21:23):
Bottle of whites. It all depends upon your Arkansas.

Speaker 4 (21:28):
But did go to it took his coaches to an
Italian restaurant earlier and didn't it.

Speaker 2 (21:34):
Wasn't that the worst?

Speaker 3 (21:34):
I think you have to. Yeah, you gotta lean into
the bit.

Speaker 1 (21:38):
You guys can carve up the rest of you know,
no carbs, no cars with the team, you guys carve up.

Speaker 4 (21:42):
Yeah, so Billy Joel getting a lot of run courtesy
of the NCAA turn trivia for you guys.

Speaker 1 (21:48):
Do you think they all wore engineer boots, leather jackets
and tight blue jeans. I did?

Speaker 4 (21:52):
Okay, By the way, you look at Patino that he's
really also leaning into his affected speech.

Speaker 1 (21:57):
Yeah, I think the white I think we said the
white point. We see the white suit on Saturday. Oh,
there's no question, Frostberg.

Speaker 5 (22:03):
Yeah, you got to taking of the white suit on Saturday. Okay,
this is the marquee game of the weekend, correct right now?

Speaker 3 (22:09):
Yes?

Speaker 5 (22:10):
Yeah, nothing, it's nothing bigger James seventeen. But that's a
whole nother story.

Speaker 1 (22:14):
Yeah, well, Brownie James scoring seventeen, leading the Lakers and
scoring that's a WEIRDOBS is.

Speaker 5 (22:20):
Going to put this game on on Saturday.

Speaker 1 (22:22):
Oh, this has gotta be Well, let's see Saint John's
played late tonight.

Speaker 5 (22:26):
I have the time.

Speaker 1 (22:27):
Oh you have the time. All right, I'm gonna guess
that it is the it's a primetime game Saturday night.
You are incorrect, Really, I'm shocked. Wow, when is it?
When are they putting on?

Speaker 5 (22:37):
They're putting it on eleven forty in the morning, Pacific time.

Speaker 1 (22:41):
Wow, that's that's early. That is ly that's some disrespect
right there, the last game of the night. Understandably you
see La Tennessee. Good, that's yeah, yeah, you gotta put
that one there. Oh yeah, okay, sure the one leading
into that primetimes got He'll be Arkansas sing Johns.

Speaker 3 (22:59):
Yeah, Saturday.

Speaker 1 (23:00):
You can even start a little bit earlier. It doesn't matter,
you know what I mean. That's anybody cares about.

Speaker 5 (23:04):
And Houston.

Speaker 3 (23:05):
No, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (23:06):
The only game, honestly, the only game that would approach
that this weekend is if Sunday we wind up with
Florida Yukon.

Speaker 3 (23:12):
That's the only game for Saturday.

Speaker 1 (23:14):
Is that? Nothing? No, not even club. It's the best game. No,
it's the best game, clearly, best game, hands down. But again,
like I say, for a team like Saint John's that
the season is all about two teams, two things Cooper
Flag and Saint John's. Saint John's is still disrespected. They
should be a one seed.

Speaker 3 (23:30):
They're not.

Speaker 1 (23:31):
Oh but they won the Big East. Big East won
the last two NCAA championships. Come on, man, here, there
are a two seed here there, Like Saint John's is
still getting You could still play a little bit of
that disrespect card if you're Rick Patino and and and
and not make it seem like it's just something you're
conjuring out of thin air.

Speaker 4 (23:47):
Yeah, but then you play the the gushing of media
folks over the last three weeks. Start with a couple
of clips of some guy hitting Jason Smith two eight four, nine,
six seven or whatever the hell of the nome was,
and keep going down. I've been They've gotten enough of
a shine in the last couple of weeks. I don't

(24:08):
think there's that level of disrespect because that's all we've
been talking about. From a college from the college, Will
Cooper Flag play? Maybe stay that's going viral?

Speaker 2 (24:18):
Righty?

Speaker 3 (24:18):
People hate you.

Speaker 4 (24:20):
At how about a fresco at swollenome at Fox Sports Radio.
Send it along to your friends and family. We'll love
you forever. Let's get it over a million But that's
that's truly it. Those are the storylines. So Rick playing
the disrespect card. I mean, I haven't seen it spread yet.
So if they're underdogs somehow, then sure, Mart, let's.

Speaker 3 (24:38):
Have nine point favor.

Speaker 1 (24:43):
Why we were all disappointed and embarrassed as Americans coming
up in ninety seconds. But first, let's find out what's
trending from someone who's been called the Rick Patino of
Fox Sports Radio. At least once a week she walks
around here wearing an entirely white suit. It's Monty Belangos.

Speaker 7 (24:59):
I would love to wear an all white suit, but
I would want It's not Labor Day yet.

Speaker 8 (25:03):
You know, I just am a messy eater. I would
I would probably be dirty quickly.

Speaker 1 (25:08):
I'm not saying have wings and drink wine. Would that
would be no?

Speaker 8 (25:13):
I I could just be eating anything. I'm just a
messy eater.

Speaker 7 (25:15):
So I can't wear wite, you know, especially like not
all all white.

Speaker 8 (25:18):
If I do, if I do do it.

Speaker 5 (25:19):
I can't acceptable to wear a white suit though. What
There's only two places that are acceptable to ever wear white.

Speaker 4 (25:25):
Suit here and no never here the disco in the sidelines.

Speaker 5 (25:29):
One is Miami.

Speaker 8 (25:30):
Yes, okay, okay, and.

Speaker 5 (25:32):
The other is on the sideline. If you're Patino, gotcha?
All right?

Speaker 8 (25:35):
Maybe I'll dress up as Rick Potato.

Speaker 7 (25:38):
For Halloween and then that way I can wear the
white suit here.

Speaker 8 (25:42):
And exactly talking like Alpa is going to be really
confusing for everybody. A mashup. A mashup, Day one of
the n c ub A Tournament officially in the books fell.
There wasn't a lot of major upsets today.

Speaker 7 (26:03):
But two seed Saint Johnson's, you guys have been talking
about may be disrespected for being a two seed, but
they crushed fifteen seed Omaha eighty three to fifty three.
This is the Red storms first tournament win in twenty
five years. They're going to face ten seed Arkansas, who
survives seventy nine to seventy two against seven seed Kansas
in the next round. This was Kansas's first loss in
the first round since two thousand and six. Eleven seed

(26:25):
Drake is headed to the second round for the first
time since nineteen seventy one.

Speaker 8 (26:29):
They took down six seed Missouri sixty seven to fifty seven.

Speaker 7 (26:33):
Five seed Michigan survived sixty to sixty five against twelve
seed U see San Diego eight seed Gonzaga crush.

Speaker 8 (26:39):
Nine seed Georgia eighty nine to sixty eight.

Speaker 7 (26:41):
The Bulldogs aren't going to face one seed Houston, as
you guys were just talking about. I mean, the upset
that happened early in the day was that twelve seed
McNeese upset five seed Clemson. Really probably the biggest upset
in Day one in the NBA. The Warriors did beat
the Raptors one seventeen to one fourteen, But keep an
eye on Steph Curry and his situation, and he had
a really hard full on the late in late in

(27:02):
the third quarter and was ruled out for the rest
of the game with a pelvic contusion. DeMar DeRozan reached
twenty five thousand career points, but the Bulls did beat
the Kings one twenty eight to one sixteen. Brownie James
seventeen points, a career high.

Speaker 1 (27:14):
He also got the twenty five thousand career points tonight.

Speaker 8 (27:17):
Exactly because nobody else was playing for the Lakers. It
still didn't matter.

Speaker 7 (27:20):
It didn't matter because the Bucks won a one eighteen
to eighty nine on.

Speaker 8 (27:24):
The ice to Capitol's edge of the Flyers three to two.

Speaker 7 (27:26):
Alexovechkan scored goal number eight hundred and eighty eight, so
he's now seven goals away from breaking Win Gretzky's record
and in soccer, which you're about to mention, So.

Speaker 8 (27:34):
I'll just throw it back to you.

Speaker 7 (27:37):
Thank you.

Speaker 1 (27:37):
Mon. Yeah, embarrassed as Americans with what happened tonight, the
first US men's game out of Mauricio Pocatino. Let's just
say not exactly what the United States men's team had
in mind. They lose tonight to Panama, and for the

(27:59):
first time.

Speaker 3 (28:02):
They will not with they've won all.

Speaker 1 (28:04):
Three additions of the CONCACAFF Nations League, except now they
will not after losing in the semi finals to Panama.

Speaker 4 (28:14):
Won nothing ready for the great postgame quote quote, we
are USA. You cannot win with your shirt, cannot win
if you play here there.

Speaker 3 (28:24):
I don't know. You need to show.

Speaker 4 (28:27):
You need to come here and be better and suffer
and win the duels and work hard.

Speaker 3 (28:32):
If not, it's not gonna be enough.

Speaker 1 (28:34):
This is so embarrassing. Okay, for the again, we lose
in this tournament for the first time. It's the first
game for the new head coach. And yes, did Panama
park the bus The entire game. Yes, it happens, but
United States no creativity. I mean, they had a lot
of chances, but you know, but that that's the whole thing.
In the United States, we have a problem finishing, and
they've had a problem finishing now for five years.

Speaker 3 (28:55):
That's the whole deal. Why does the United States struggle?
We can't.

Speaker 1 (28:58):
We can't finish like other countries due and it was
another uninspired effort and it was really difficult. The only
guy who is happy at this point is Greg Burholton.
His ass off going You thought it was my fault?
Ha ha ha. He's got Panama from Van Halen as
his ringtone right now, Hey call me why because I

(29:20):
want to hear Panama on my phone as I'm going forward.
This is fantastic. He's I only go well and and
Ty Shirt's a pretty happy guy. He's the only guy
who is happy. And not only is this embarrassing because
of the effort and losing this this is an awful idea.
When are we gonna play this game? Well, we're gonna
play it Thursday, Well, the first day of the NCAA tournament. Yeah, okay,
I don't know. We're gonna get a lot of eyeballs. Well,

(29:42):
we got to play it then, Okay, when are we
gonna play? Well, we're gonna play it so far. So
is that gonna be a late start? Nope, We're gonna
start at four o'clock in the afternoon. What does that mean?
It means that we might not draw some fans, and
it is.

Speaker 7 (29:52):
It was.

Speaker 1 (29:52):
It looked like a Jets preseason game. The number of
fans who are in the stands. It's so far for this.
It was embarrassing. This was an embarrassing day on all
levels for United States soccer.

Speaker 3 (30:03):
I mean, I don't know if it's good or bad.

Speaker 1 (30:05):
It happened the first day of the tournament, but boy,
they're getting headlines for how bad things are the first day.
So yeah, there's expectations here and the first game could
not have gone worse from every angle.

Speaker 4 (30:16):
Should have gone to watch season two of School Spirits
instead of this on Paramount Plus earlier tonight. Have you
know that he is also happy back to back nights
for him because he's a North Carolina grand Okay, so
I played in his college soccer there, so you got that.

Speaker 1 (30:32):
He was used all your karma up last night for
North carol The last well, but I mean he also
won tonight, so it's it's Burnhalter's world.

Speaker 4 (30:41):
We're all just living in it. Fire me, Yeah, that's
gonna make him shoot straight or not hit a post.

Speaker 2 (30:53):
Wow, come on, call my phone.

Speaker 3 (30:54):
I want to play it again. Come on, I'm having
an after party at myles.

Speaker 1 (30:57):
We're gonna celebrate losing the Panama Right now.

Speaker 4 (31:02):
I'm thinking of there this meme that was going around
of influencers. I forget what country it was in, but
literally they had this this contraption that had like twenty
five phones going, so it was on every social media platform,
different phone of whatever they were doing, uh with products
they were trying to sell. I'm thinking if Burhalter's got that,

(31:23):
and it's a bunch of phones that are all just
going off playing Panama as if it's a giant stereo system.

Speaker 1 (31:30):
Exit out about a Fresca exit swollen dome. Jason Smith,
Micgarman Live in the Direct dot Com Studios Coming up next.
How about we end with a double shot of the
weirdest thing said today during the NCAA Tournament and another
round of True TV or Not TV. That's next, Fox Bubblins.

Speaker 2 (31:53):
Boo Pow about Home off. Be sure to catch live
editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays
at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific, Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (32:10):
The Jason Smith Show with My best friend Mike Harmon
Sure TV or Not TV coming up in a couple
of minutes. But first, the most interesting thing said today
during the NCAA Tournament.

Speaker 4 (32:26):
It's not I think we had a couple of those.
That was Rick Patino at halftime to Saint John. Oh,
there's no question about it.

Speaker 3 (32:33):
But Brian Anderson, who announced who Creighton and Louisville today,
was doing a promo for a new show, mob Land,
which was coming up.

Speaker 1 (32:44):
Great, big cast, right, big deal. Well, sure, it's a
huge nan. Yeah, guy Ritchie doing the show. Except it well,
let's just listen to how he described reading the promo
for this show during downtime in the game.

Speaker 2 (33:00):
Do you know who I am? No, I can't say
that I do.

Speaker 5 (33:07):
I don't know how to quit this, but.

Speaker 8 (33:11):
I'm kind of a big deal.

Speaker 2 (33:13):
Really, people know me.

Speaker 1 (33:16):
So after he made sure people knew who he was,
he tried to get to Mobland in a quite different
way than anybody else would.

Speaker 2 (33:26):
From the underworld. If guy Richie comes Moblennens. Moblins from
the Underworld. If Guy Richie comes Moblennens.

Speaker 1 (33:35):
Sorry, Tom Hardy, Pierce Broslin, Helen Mirren go inside the
Harrigan family.

Speaker 3 (33:42):
As they try to stay on top of a criminal empire.

Speaker 8 (33:45):
You can stream at March thirtieth on Paramount.

Speaker 3 (33:48):
He gets all the names, right, yeah, Helen Mirren, Piers Brosnan, I'm.

Speaker 5 (33:51):
Actually pretty sure you cannot stream that show that he mentioned.

Speaker 3 (33:55):
I don't think I don't think Moblin.

Speaker 1 (33:57):
Moblin's is Mablenns Moblin's with an S at the end,
not not just he got it, Mobilin's not Mobland, but
he got mobilin Moblans.

Speaker 3 (34:06):
They're like the Jackson the Green. They are plural.

Speaker 1 (34:08):
I mean, I get that they hand you a piece
of paper and you're reading the promo, but you got
it it's Moblin. I mean, come on, man, you know
it's Mobland, and right off, I guarantee you a producer
got yelled back to it.

Speaker 3 (34:18):
Why would you do it, dude?

Speaker 1 (34:19):
I really needed to phonetically spell out in Mobland form.
He said Mobland with an answer the Moblin's. I'm actually
pretty jacked up about this. There's been some posters around town.

Speaker 3 (34:30):
Whatever.

Speaker 1 (34:31):
So I heard Moblin's and I just started laughing. He
got Venom, he got James Bond.

Speaker 3 (34:35):
Oh yeah, the Queen.

Speaker 2 (34:40):
Go to Moblin's.

Speaker 3 (34:41):
I thought it was Moblin. No, it's Moblin's Mobland.

Speaker 5 (34:47):
I can't wait to make all your live reads that
don't air public.

Speaker 1 (34:51):
Hey, if I miss on a word, it's because it's
a difficult word that I've never seen before, or that
I don't see that often. I would be a mistake
words for big Math, I would get Mobland.

Speaker 7 (35:02):
Right.

Speaker 1 (35:03):
That's like me saying, hey, go to McDonald's, get a
and get a big man in the script though, and
get a big mac. Get a big mac. The sandwich
is great, pluralize it. You got two all beef paties,
you got special sauce, latuse, Jason Bulpit's not on the read.
You got Kahisi on an acesame seed Boon, Moblans. Let's

(35:26):
go see Moblin's.

Speaker 2 (35:27):
I'm there, let's go.

Speaker 3 (35:28):
What do you think it's about Moblin's.

Speaker 1 (35:31):
Yeah, uh, well it's it's it's I think it's about
a restaurants, a department store like Model's. Come to Moblin's
where you get half off on a big sale on Saturday,
Moblin at Mobiles come to Moblins. Hey how about we
finish with a flourish play another edition of the greatest

(35:51):
radio game ever, often imitated, never duplicated all the years
We've been doing this.

Speaker 3 (35:56):
True TV or Not TV.

Speaker 1 (36:00):
He's watching True TV this week, really the only week
you watch True TV, the crazy channel with all kinds
of crazy ass shows on. So help educate everybody on
True TV. We play True TV or Not TV. I
give you the name of a show, describe it. You
tell me if that is an actual show on True
TV or made up entirely by me playing as Mike

(36:20):
Harmon Manzie Belanos, who stayed late just to play this game.
She's rallying Sir Rokie, Sasaki, Frostburg and snell Ty Shirt.

Speaker 3 (36:28):
Yoh are we ready?

Speaker 1 (36:29):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (36:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (36:32):
Monday Night Football and Football is Futbol Monday Night Football,
a part reality, part competition show that airs on Monday
nights where average people try to reenact the biggest goals
of the week in Copa America. Monday Night Football, part reality,
part competition show airs on Monday nights where average people

(36:55):
try to reenact the biggest goals of the week in
Copa America Monday Night Football.

Speaker 3 (37:02):
And it stars Cristo Fernandez. Football is life, no ross,
all right, he was also invented, see he ties, he was,
he was.

Speaker 2 (37:16):
I'm gonna say yes, Monday Night Football.

Speaker 1 (37:18):
Yes, and I'm in You say it because you wanted.

Speaker 8 (37:20):
To be a show, because I wanted to be a show.

Speaker 1 (37:22):
And you're also thinking of how many people you can
get together to reenact a goal from Copa America.

Speaker 8 (37:27):
Literally, I'm like, why haven't we done that?

Speaker 3 (37:28):
All right?

Speaker 1 (37:29):
That's right. All these shows, whether they real or not,
be great shows, all right, sir Rokie, definitely not a show.

Speaker 3 (37:36):
Not a show.

Speaker 9 (37:36):
Okay, I know you didn't like my last one, but
I have another one. Backdoor Saally's what backdoor? Sallly's Okay?
They sneaking horses through back doors and try to surprise people. Monci,
that's a good idea. No, that's not a show.

Speaker 2 (37:52):
But do I have to hit the button?

Speaker 5 (37:55):
I just keep it that.

Speaker 1 (37:56):
John Mullaney said, there's a horse loose in the hospital.
All right, this is a stunt, farm boy the Monday
Night Football smell ty shirt. No way, Monday Night Football
is not a true TV show.

Speaker 8 (38:16):
I don't believe it.

Speaker 4 (38:17):
He is, the next question, which one of us is
going to be on vacation sooner rather than later.

Speaker 3 (38:25):
Merlin's Beard.

Speaker 1 (38:27):
Merlin's Beard a European fashion competition show where people attempt
to grow the most stylish beard in an attempt to
look like royalty wizards or historical figures. Merlin's beard, I
mean there are competitions globally, right.

Speaker 2 (38:43):
We just have a guy that did the competitions.

Speaker 3 (38:45):
He was an editor.

Speaker 2 (38:47):
What was that guy's name, No, no, no, the beard,
the more bins before his name, Jona dinner whatever he
had like he did the yeah yeah, kind of redheaded dude.
He left.

Speaker 1 (39:01):
He was participating in contest. I'm gonna Merlin is from England.
Let's go, European fashion competition where people attempt to grow
the most stylish beard to try to look like royalty
wizards or historical figures. Were the Van Dyke get after it,
Moncey Merlin's beard?

Speaker 8 (39:18):
Absolutely not?

Speaker 2 (39:19):
Absolutely woe?

Speaker 3 (39:20):
Why absolutely not?

Speaker 8 (39:21):
There's shoot TV wouldn't have that.

Speaker 2 (39:25):
That's where they drop a lot.

Speaker 3 (39:27):
Hey, we like all this other stuff we do. I
do you take this droid, but.

Speaker 2 (39:32):
We're not gonna do it with facial hair.

Speaker 1 (39:35):
How dare you? Yeah, all right, Frostburg, what do you think? Sorry, sir, Okay,
Merlin's Beard definitely a show.

Speaker 4 (39:43):
Okay, because there's a whole other genre we can get
into you with this title, but here it's about facial hair.

Speaker 3 (39:51):
All right.

Speaker 1 (39:52):
Sorry, sorry, Roki Frostburg too. Smell ty shirt, I got
another name, of course. What's that smell?

Speaker 9 (39:58):
What?

Speaker 1 (39:59):
What?

Speaker 2 (39:59):
What that smell? What's that smell? There?

Speaker 5 (40:02):
You go?

Speaker 3 (40:03):
What's that?

Speaker 9 (40:03):
Snell I was saying, smell Okay, smell, go ahead, like
it's a dark room and you have to smell different
things and guess what it is. Well, yeah, but see
that sounds great now, but if you don't have a
scratch and sniff television like, you lose a lot.

Speaker 3 (40:15):
In translation.

Speaker 9 (40:16):
You just imagine though you're like you smells, oh, it
smells like ass and he goes off like it is.

Speaker 3 (40:20):
We'll get smell a vision at some point be able
to have that game. But if you can't smell it through.

Speaker 2 (40:23):
The TV, A wizard one, Yeah, Manzie's afraid Merlin's Beard, Yes, is.

Speaker 1 (40:36):
Not a true TV What a failure by Merlin's Beard.
