Ever give us you're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
Greetings, Welcome inside final hour tonight the Jason Smith Show
with my best friend Mike Harmon.
Speaker 3 (00:35):
What do we got left? Let's go.
Speaker 1 (00:37):
We had another night where how we thought the games
were gonna go?
Speaker 3 (00:43):
They did not.
Speaker 4 (00:44):
No.
Speaker 1 (00:45):
First, we saw the Cavaliers blow US seven point lead
in the final forty eight seconds to lose Game two
at home to the Pacers, meaning the Knicks are going
to the finals, because the Knicks are gonna beat the Celtics,
then we're gonna beat the Pacers the Nicks to be
in the five.
Speaker 3 (01:00):
I should have never taught you the Reddit property Knicks
Warriors Finals coming up? Man, Nicks, get him right, let's go,
let's go. I'm borrowing your jump to conclusions lest go.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
No, but seriously, and then we watched the Warriors tonight
beat the te Wolves in embarrassing fashion ninety nine to
eighty eight, despite the fact Steph Curry just thirteen minutes
played before leaving the game with a hamstring injury. Steve
Kurz said a few moments ago they are operating as
if he is not going to play in game two,
and I'm telling if he comes back for game four,
(01:32):
that's good, all right. That would be a little bit
over five days, because hamstring injuries aren't something you come
back from in just a couple of days. If he
comes back for game four, okay, the Warriors bought bought
themselves some time with the winning game one. Now suddenly, okay,
you lose game two, all right, you want you're taking
home court, You're coming back. Maybe Steph's okay for game three,
but if not game four, I'm telling you, if he
(01:55):
misses two games comes back for game four, that's you
can look at.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
What I'd love to get into deeper with, Like if
you had the sit down with Steve Kerr and I
haven't had a chance. We've been on air, so it's
not like I got to sit and watch his entire
post game. But it becomes the question because they ruled
out Steph Curry really quickly. So that's one of two things.
Either you felt like you'd figured out what the Wolves
were giving you in game one and you'd already taken
(02:21):
their souls with the early three pointers from Draymahond Green,
or that injury is worse than it appeared in terms
of the quick pull, right, because on the surface when
you watch the video, it doesn't look like he's We've
seen guys go down in tremendous pain. It's like you've
(02:41):
got that look like, all right, I aggravated something and
maybe just as a high pain threshold. I don't know,
but he was quickly ruled out, so I want to
know how much of that was. We feel pretty good
about it versus the severity of his injury.
Speaker 5 (02:54):
Well, he did have a noticeable limp outside of the
arena after the game.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
Yeah, doesn't mean anything. We've seen guys play entire fourth
quarters and then tell you that their knee is ripped.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
Yeah, look, he's gonna be out for Game two. Steve
Curis he's not going to be back for that. But
it doesn't matter because clearly the Warriors have shown, Hey,
we can beat you without him, but impressive game. I
kind of expect the Warriors to play Game two like
they played Game five in the last round, where hey,
if we're out of it early, we're not going crazy.
We're gonna put it away and come back home and
(03:27):
try to win two games on our home floor and
go up three to one, and then we can, we can,
we can throw the hammer down on the series. So
I really expect that the Tea Wolves to win Game two.
Now that being said, we watched the Calves lose tonight
and the te Wolves lose tonight.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
So I posit this to you.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
Which loss was more embarrassing because there's so many embarrassments
with both of these teams.
Speaker 3 (03:51):
Right.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
You had you had the Cavaliers, who, despite the fact
again missing three players. We talked about this last night.
You know you're missing Darius again, I mean three of
your rotation players.
Speaker 2 (04:02):
Three.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
Uh, it was gonna be tough, okay, but donno. Mitchell
goes for forty eight and you're winning by seven with
forty eight seconds left, and Pascal Siaka misses two free throws.
So I have a seven point lead with forty eight
seconds left, and the Pacers missed two free throws, and
still you found a way to lose the game because
(04:25):
you let Netsmith come flying in for a rebound dunk.
Then you had an offensive foul where Mitchell throws an elbow.
Of course he's getting called for that. Then you add
another offensive possession where you turned it over, and then
another rebound. You allowed the Pacers to have off a
missed free throw for Halliburton to hit the game winning three.
I know you're missing guys. I know you're missing three guys,
(04:46):
but that is absolutely inexcuseable. It's an absolute choke by
the Cavaliers to lose that game tonight. One hundred and
fifty percent. That was an you can't you look up
choking a dictionary. It's gonna be Oh. I get moving
video of the last forty eight seconds of this game,
though it starts with Siakam's second miss free throw.
Speaker 3 (05:04):
Then I see the rest of the fourth quarter. That's
an absolute show. Yeah. I mean you see the putback
dunk that got reviewed, right, so you got a break
in the action, and then you get the ensuing possession
where Mitchell throws the elbow. Man. That's three point eight
seconds or thereabouts of game clock and two huge reviews
that go against you. So all of a sudden, you
(05:24):
know whether you believe in momentum or not, or the
energy's out of the building, because now you're all up
in arms going, ah, no, we've opened the door, right,
even hadd and you and I were talking about this
a little bit off air, and it became a bigger
point when Halliburton ends up going to his postgame press
conference where they started chanting overrated at him and you
(05:47):
see Donovan Mitchell losing his mind trying to get them
to shut up. So, yeah, I didn't think we had
any beef, I guess, and now I know. But all
of that to say, yeah, this is monumental. Right, they
were still six point favorites. You got the massive game
out of Mitchell, and look he came up small down
(06:07):
the stretch. That final forty eight seconds will be replaying forever,
but it's it's immense because it's game two, right, you
give it away a huge, huge game. I showed you
a stat earlier that you've got a run since the
ninety eight season where teams trailing by seven or more
(06:28):
in the final minute of the fourth or overtime have
three wins against sixteen and forty losses, and the Pacers
have two of those in these playoffs, so they're not
gonna go away. And your guy namhard. He didn't shoot
particularly well, but he was still thirteen assists, had a
big defensive stop in the final minute, caused that other
(06:51):
turnover from Strus. All of that to say, you had
every opportunity, every chance, you're still favorite in the game,
and you let them off the hook. You let him
come back and get you. And Haliburton executed what the
Celtics could not last night. I'm gonna go seek out
a three point shot and when I don't need a three,
and you saw his dad celebrate with all, so you
(07:14):
think about people had him at an Applebee's Chilly like
we started going to Olive Gard you name it.
Speaker 1 (07:20):
He was a mascot. He was dressed up as a mascot.
I'm telling you was there. He saw everything. You're just
convinced he saw everything.
Speaker 3 (07:26):
Hy Tyrese. I was just I was just in the
Calves huddle.
Speaker 6 (07:30):
They're gonna get it to Mitchell and swinging around for
a three. It's dad, I'm right here, it's me.
Speaker 3 (07:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (07:35):
I beat up the mascot and I took over. Don't
tell anybody I did it. I love you. Go in
a big shot and win the game.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
I think you're stealing from the plot of Jack Frost
with Michael.
Speaker 5 (07:45):
Keaton five bucks. Tell me the mascot's name right now,
John Haliburton. Excuse me, John halliw.
Speaker 3 (07:55):
Is it that's his dad? Did you say, Tyrese Haliburton.
Speaker 1 (07:58):
I just know John Haliburton. That's his Dad's the owner
of the next He's a master. Mascot's name is Moondog. Yeah, yeah,
don't say yeah moon Dog? Okay, okay, okay, So what's
the purpose of that?
Speaker 3 (08:13):
You lose? How do I lose five dollars? How does that?
How do I lose five dollars? I don't understand.
Speaker 1 (08:19):
All right, So you think I'm gonna say, okay, well yeah,
Cavaliers more and more embarrassing lost to Night Oh no,
not even close. When you show up for game one
and the player you have to stop the most leaves
the game after thirteen minutes and you can't even make
a run. You can't even make a run. The closest
(08:42):
the Wolves got this thing.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
Was to eight.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
Yeah, because for some reason, Wow, Buddy, Heal's way wide open.
He's the only guy making threes in the second half,
and boy, Buddy Heal is open. Boy, other guys are
a boy, Jimmy Butler is open. Like for a team
that's supposed to have great defensive acuity, what happened? This
is this is way more embarrassing. Now you've got here
coming up in a few minutes, Tegules head coach crnch
(09:05):
Fist Chris Finch had a lot to say about Anthony Edwards.
Speaker 3 (09:09):
He did not hold back. This is a dangerous space
after one game, Fist crnch Fist. I mean that's the
that's up the Yeah, that's the Kingpin's real name is crinchfist. Uh.
Speaker 1 (09:24):
You know this is this is way more embarrassing than
the Cavaliers because you go at home to a team
that comes and they have they lose their best player
and you can't even you can't even make it a game.
You can't even make it a game.
Speaker 3 (09:38):
Are you trying to make it out? Because the they
were felled by a guy named Buddy? Is that really
what diapers?
Speaker 1 (09:46):
Because for the second straight game he was fantastic. Buddy
healed the two game stretch. We thought he was gonna
have eight years ago. Hey, well, welcome to the NBA, buddy.
Speaker 3 (09:54):
But here's the thing. We we know at least one
more game he's gonna have an opportunity to shine brightly
with a very large shot selection. Oh ye yeah, yeah, yeah,
there's no question about that. I still think when we
look at it, overall the calves because they blow that
seven point lead, because now you're down to zero. Right now,
you're on the ropes. You just add your guy named
(10:16):
Coach of the Year. You slept walk through the second
half of the regular season. People started throwing the flowers
full bouquets in your general direction because of your depth
and the way you're blowing teams out. Hey, nobody's gonna
be able to score with these guys. Yeh, hold my beer.
They were able to not only once, but they came
back and did it again. So this was a game
(10:39):
you had to have. And even with those three guys missing,
the fact that you built and maintain that lead. Ty
Jerome shoots one of fourteen, doesn't matter. He's in the
starting lineup and you're still able to roll through. And
you can't get through the final forty eight for the
t Wolves. What's falling out we'll hear from coach to
really shine some more light on it. Yeah, that's embarrassing,
(11:01):
but you're in a two oh hole.
Speaker 1 (11:03):
And well, no bet they're in a worse shape because
they're in a two oh hole. But but tonight, to
blow the game the way they did is inexcusable, to
not show up and not have any sort of wherewithal
because look, there's something to be said for the Timberwolves
when they have to play with expectations. Right when they
were the great feel good story of the NBA last year, Hey,
(11:26):
here they are, Look how good they are defensively. Suddenly
the timbwl and Ann Edwards Michael Jordan's right, and suddenly
here the te Wolves. They're playing with expectation. And what happened?
The lights were too bright? They went home. This year,
they go on. They beat the Lakers in the first round. Hey,
we weren't supposed to win. We've defeated the Lakers, all right.
Now you're playing with expectations. And what happens again, second
(11:47):
straight playoffs? That things change for the Timberwolves once they
have to play with expectation, and it's it's a it's
a Timberwolves thing. It's an Ant Edwards thing, and it's
something they got to solve because when suddenly when hey,
we're the hunted, we're playing with expect Oh, we're not
the same team. I look at last year when they
were the feel good story and and Edwards is all
the oh wow, and then what happened? Boom they go
(12:08):
out and it's what happened? What happened to this great
defensive intensity? What happened the way you used to play?
You can't you get you? You losing five to the
Mavericks and now this year great in the first round
blow out the Lakers. Here you are at home for
a team that is that is an aging team that
can't run with you up and down the floor. And
the best player goes out and still yeah, no, no expectations.
Speaker 3 (12:29):
We can't win. They have so many problems, so many problems.
Well the other is why were you not working the
ball inside? That seemed to work last round two? But
for An Edwards and we'll get deeper in him, he
wanted all the love, all the smoke. Right, I'm that
guy when you go zero for ten, you score one
point in the first half, and you're getting run and
(12:51):
you lead your team to a thirty one point output
in the first half. Yeah, you're gonna get a lot
of smoke.
Speaker 1 (12:58):
Telling me man playing with that. And it goes beyond
the Tea Wolves and Ann Edwards. Something we're gonna get
up to coming up.
Speaker 3 (13:03):
In a couple. I think they just missed another three.
Speaker 1 (13:06):
Wait till you hear what was said about Ann Edwards
following the t Wolves lost to the guy everybody wants

Aunt Edwards happen. You'll hear it next right here, Jason

Speaker 3 (13:24):

Speaker 2 (15:35):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 3 (15:49):
Dead DJ. Clearly tonight we watched the Cavs and t
Wolves bleed Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with
my best friend Mike Harmon out the fight and uh,
something's gotta be stopped because it's getting to the point
of a story from three years ago, and we saw
(16:11):
how that ended the last two playoffs. You have seen
many members of the media, pundits, experts, players. Hey, you know,
Aunt Edwards is the next Michael Jordan. He is the
next Michael Jordan. He's the next Michael dru whoa, whoa,
whoa wait what whoa? He's the next Michael druff Well,
(16:31):
Ann Edwards is a really good player. But boy, I'm
kind of getting Mac Jones is the next Tom Brady
from Patriots fans sense of how they're trying to make
Aunt Edwards happen. Now. To be fair, Bill Belichick screwed
Mac Jones my first year, right, fantastic first year by
(16:51):
all accounts. And then uh, here's Matt patriciasro scene. Go
get it, not really helping he taking a DC.
Speaker 1 (17:00):
No, we didn't. But the whole thing was Mac Jones
was never great. He was drafted in the middle of
the first round. But because the media, because everybody now
that comes in and all the former players that come in,
I'll say, oh, everything I say has got to be
a hot take. Mac Jones is tom Brady Mac. I
still forget who it was. It probably shouldn't be analyzing
footballing Moore that said, Matt Jones is doing things in
(17:22):
the Patriots first training camp that Tom Brady couldn't do.
Speaker 3 (17:25):
At that point, I was like, who tom Brady's first
training camp?
Speaker 1 (17:28):
Maybe I don't know who that is, but I mean,
but clearly whoever that is doesn't remember Tom Brady's first
training camp. So there's no way are you telling them
doing things Tom Brady couldn't do.
Speaker 3 (17:36):
But it's always the Hey, let's grab Jordan, let's grab Brady,
let's grab Lebron, let's grab grat Sky. We have to
go to the absolute top six. You know, it's okay
to be the you know, Hall of Famer number twenty
four on the list and compare a guy to that.
But the desire that that Patriots fans and the media, oh,
we just we have We're still looking to fill this
void left by Tom Brady, and it's mac Jones. No,
(17:58):
it's not.
Speaker 1 (17:58):
But they tried to make now Drake May. They tried
to Gretchen Wieners his way, trying to make and Edwards
happen the same way they tried to make mac Jones happen.
Now and Edwards is a much better player than mac
Jones is. But last year you watched Ann Edwards. Hey, yeah,
he was part of this great team that the te
Wolves kind of snuck up on people and they showed
(18:21):
how great they were defensively, as wow, look at what
they're doing here in the playoffs. Again, we said a
few minutes ago, when there was no expectation on them,
then there was expectation, and suddenly it was a much
different team than knocked out the champs. Well, what has happened?
How are they? This is how they're playing defense? This
is and Edwards not even showing up for the first
two games of the West Finals against against the Mavericks. Boy,
(18:44):
this was bad. Okay, okay, Well he goes through this year,
another big year. The t Wolves beat the Lakers. Oh
and ed Edwards again, He's Michael Jordan.
Speaker 3 (18:52):
He's Jordan. He's Jordan. He's Jordan. And Edwards couldn't bring
the te Wolves back tonight in a game where he
was the best player on the floor. He was also
at duped from a giant hole and he was terrible,
and following the game, he didn't get any sort of Hey,
we're gonna take the pressure off. Here's Teegwull's head coach
Chris Finch talking about Ann Edwards and the team and
(19:14):
what they showed tonight in a lack of fight and
a lack of effort against the Warriors in Game one.
Speaker 2 (19:21):
Jack Weed, I get more action in a week than
you've had your entire life.
Speaker 3 (19:26):
I've got houses in La Paris and Vale, each one
of them with a seventy inch plasma screen.
Speaker 2 (19:33):
So I suggest you wipe that stupid smile off your face.
Speaker 3 (19:37):
Oh he was mad. Finch was mad. Call me one
more time.
Speaker 1 (19:40):
Does Santa know you left the workshop? All right, that's it,
that's okay. That actually the great Miles Finch, Miles Finch,
Miles Finch.
Speaker 3 (19:48):
He forgot his notebook. Peaches are more vulnerable. All right,
let's go with peaches. They're vulnerable. But the children loved
the books, saying we shouldn't bring him. No, I want
to take a thirty thousand dollars bath on all of
these books. Miles Finch comes in, Miles Finch, Miles Finch,
Miles Finch, one of the greatest actors of our time.
(20:12):
Oh okay, I watched Serra and again tonight. So then
after that, then Chris Finch came to this. Okay, well, okay, understand,
don't care, okay, Jack. Chris Finch had this to say
after he chased down the table and jumped on Will Ferrell.
Chris Finch had this to say after he refused to
(20:34):
show up and stop helping. Okay, I'm done with Miles
Finch storylines. Chris Finch had this to say about Ed
Edwards and the t Wolves. What is there to talk about.
Speaker 7 (20:42):
I mean, you're there, they're the leader of the team,
and you got to come out and set the tone.
You know in all ways that that happens. And if
it's if your SHOT's not going like you you still
have to carry the energy, you know. So I don't
think there's if I got to talk to guys about
having the right energy coming into opening around game, opening
(21:03):
the second round game, and you know we're not you
know we're not on the same page.
Speaker 3 (21:07):
So Chris Finch, Chris Finch, Chris Finch, whoa taking a
blow torch to aunt Edwards and his leadership and his effort. No,
that's a good one. Now do you think it worked?
He had. He had another one though, right when he
was asked about the poor shooting affecting confidence overall. Play quote.
(21:33):
It starts with Anthony, you could see the light go
out for a little while. Yeah, I mean that's Leo
DiCaprio once upon a time in how I want to
watch the light go out in your eyes when you
know you're dying.
Speaker 1 (21:48):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (21:48):
Now did it? Well, that's all said, I want to
see the light go out in your eyes. Dolls eyes.
Speaker 1 (21:53):
I want to Hey, Joe Missoula, I want to see
the light go out when Jalen Brunson hits that three
in game two to win the game. So did it work?
And Edwards was asked, Hey, this is what Chris Finch.
Chris Finch, Chris Finch, this is what Chris Finch had
to say. What is Anthony Edwards's response?
Speaker 4 (22:10):
Coach was saying that he relies on you to set
the tone from the start, and he didn't quite see that.
Do you feel like you were off at all, just
in that department or just kind of the way he
started the game.
Speaker 3 (22:20):
Nah? So like I played great defense, I just can't
do nothing offense. So nah nah na na no, not me.
Speaker 1 (22:27):
Well, all of a sudden, the te wolves says, troubling,
there is trouble in Paradise.
Speaker 3 (22:33):
Oh wow, fight night, let's you feel it?
Speaker 1 (22:36):
Nah nah No, I played great defense, I played great offense.
I couldn't scud nah nodding to set the tone.
Speaker 3 (22:42):
They shut the lights out. Now relatively speaking, in the
first half, how good could your defense a bit? Nah? Nah?
I was good.
Speaker 1 (22:49):
I was really good defensively, Like, how how do you
say that? Following again? Look, I get that you could
disagree with your coach and Okay, maybe he's mad because
Chris Finch said this in public, Hey, why don't you
come to me? There's many different reasons behind this cause
Chris Finch, obviously as a coach, says I don't want
this to fester. And the fact that I have to
say this after game one tells me just knowing coaches
(23:15):
tells me that this might not be the first time
that this has come up, and Chris Finch has tried
to address it, because there's no way the first time
something like this comes up a coach goes out in
the in the media and dresses down a player. So
I would think this is probably something that's been going
on or happened a few times before that. Maybe Chris
(23:35):
Finch has tried to figure out and and now I
got to use it to light a fire under you
because I didn't get what I felt. But to get
that response from Anthony Edwards to say, Nahna, like all
of a sudden, now it's whoa Chris Finch and Anthony
Edwards don't get along. Chris Finch ed Edwards, how is
this going to play out? Because now this is the
(23:55):
storyline for the Tea Wolves going into games for the Warriors,
Steph in hisself. But now the story on going in
the game two. Are they not getting along? Do they
not like each other? What is going on here?
Speaker 3 (24:06):
Right? I get that you can be upset. You're the
star player, though you gotta understand that you things, You
get all the credit when things go great, and when
things go wrong, that's gonna be on you. And again,
why he's not why we can't annoint to him as
Michael Jordan. He doesn't get that win or lose playing
well or playing not. You're the guy that that sets
(24:27):
the tongue. You're the guy. You're the guy that you're
responsible for the wins, you're responsible for the losses, no
matter how much you are or aren't in a game,
you're that guy. And if you're the leader of the
team and you you have to understand that. So to
hear him come out and say, yeah, no, no, I
play great defense, not you. Let Draymond score fourteen and
Steph was at thirteen before he left the game after
(24:48):
thirteen minutes, he was on pace to score fifty. Like,
just the fact that he said this tells me that, Okay,
there's some stuff going on right now, because to just
dismiss that right away, it will Oh, here's your big
storyline going into games. Yeah, it's just the curiosity, you know,
as the way that was phrased. Right, here's what he said,
not a quote, you know, just kind of here, here's
(25:10):
a summation of what coach had to say. And rather
than elaborating on it or asking the reporter to kind
of go into more detail, that's what I would have done.
I would have put it back on the reporter. It's like,
all right, what exactly did coach say? Explain it? Because
he put up eight shots. He was terrible. He was
(25:30):
zero for eight from the field and from three point range.
An absolute disastrous night. Uh finishes what twenty three and fourteen?
So box score reading, it's gonna look like a solid effort.
And look they got back within double digits. That's how
low the bar was for the d Wolves as this
game wore on. But yeah, for Edwards and for coach
(25:53):
to put this out after game one and air it out,
and the dismissiveness of I gave you good defense, well
not really, and we can go back to team defense,
because that was the hallmark of the squad right, they're lengthy,
they can get after you on the perimeter. They're not
going to give up a lot of easy looks. They
give up a lot of easy looks. We saw how
many three point shots, you know, Draymond was the leader
(26:17):
with his four, but they had open looks all throughout
the first half forty four to thirty one halftime lead.
And for Anthony Edwards offensively, he got his shots up.
I guess that would have been the response if you
really want to get no. I was still aggressive. The
shots just weren't falling this and I gave you offense.
So like we have a difference of opinion.
Speaker 1 (26:37):
This is a disaster for the t Wolves in one game.
They have again when you have to play with expectation,
what do I say? This is a disaster. This is now?
Are are the head coach and star player at odds?
So after game one.
Speaker 3 (26:52):
Again, the more the results come in from the NBA
every night, the more I'm convinced the to the finals.
I mean, come on, everybody else just throwing up all
over them, and sure, except to be fair, though you
did for two and a half quarters. Now you rallied,
but you took advantage of some faulty play and the
(27:12):
continued barrage of three point shots. Now, to be fair,
the Celtics did that a lot this year. Now, you
would think in a in a game where, let's face
that the Knick set times are offensively challenged, you wouldn't
let them back in the game by continuing to take
bad shots and chance in hell that you get past
the Pacers. Just stop. We're gonna. Dad's gonna because we
(27:34):
know the Pacers from last Haliburton's Dad's gonna take that mask.
Got heead off and reveal him. No it wasn't. Wasn't
he banned for the whole playoff. No, it's just he
might be back for all of a sudden, Ladies and gentlemen,
he might be. Yeah, he might still continue. You'll be
sitting in Dolan seat. Here's Caitlyn Clark and John Halliburton.
Speaker 5 (27:54):
Son does own the Knicks and Caitlyn Clark from the
logo Karl could not get out.
Speaker 3 (28:01):
There in time time out.
Speaker 1 (28:03):
Knicks, they trail Clark and the fever slash Pacers by thirteen.
Speaker 3 (28:07):
All right, finals bettings Uh thunder is still the favorite.
All about the Celtic Knicks. No, this can't be up
Knicks because the Calves are still third favorite. It just
seems Nicks, no, Knicks are all the way towards the bottom.
Stop the Golden stack down by the Golden States.
Speaker 1 (28:22):
If you're doing something, no, if you're doing playoff power rankings,
right now, the Knicks are at the tone they're not
sure they are really.
Speaker 3 (28:31):
There. Well, he's trying to overweight the booths. Jalen Brunson
saying the closer counts for like a fifty five multiplier.
That's Celtic beatdown coming tomorrow. Look, look, the Warriors don't
have steph now.
Speaker 1 (28:46):
The Wolves are an absolute mess, an absolute mess. The
Cavaliers are going out and and the Knicks are better
than the Pacers. You know, it's kind of the better
because we were better all season. Really, we have a
better ross. What's your series regular.
Speaker 3 (29:02):
We would have beaten them last last year.
Speaker 1 (29:04):
We would have got hurt our entire team.
Speaker 3 (29:08):
Here's your series odds, Yeah, go ahead, Celtics minus three sixty,
that's bad luck. We have playself plus two eighties bad
bad luck. If we had to play anybody else but
now but minus two favorites were up, that's Warriors plus
one thirty five. That's even that, that's not too bad.
Speaker 1 (29:26):
Power rankings, Nicks, Pacers one two. Then you want to
go with the Warriors. Now, then you go with the Nuggets,
and then the Warriors because Steph is out, and then the.
Speaker 3 (29:36):
Other teams we thought were good and they go other
teams we thought were all really good at night. Uh
usually on one of my side, do you not realize?
Look at you got to just start by asking what
the color the sky is? Mattress from mattress. Benny is
between us. It's all spread out. Yeah no, no, no,
Benny gets the cream in your oreo. Oh yeah, Ben,
(30:00):
he loves he spreads out. Uh no. He tries to
spoon me in the morning though he got he likes
that's not legal. He like tries to get up, like
when Pam gets up to get to get Zoe ready
for school, and like Benny go okay, he gets up
and then he like gives me a hip throw like
into like my legs of like hey, I'm coming to
lay right next to him, like oh okay, you could there,
I'm giving you that hip check. He'd be a great
(30:21):
hockey player. Well, but he wants the love right, wants
wants to be seen, and he would be hick, dangerous
hockey player. Hip check, hip check, hipchick.
Speaker 5 (30:30):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (30:31):
Time now to find out what's trending in the wide
world of sports from someone who's been called the John
Halliburton of Fox Sports Radio because once he dressed up
like a mascot to get on the floor of a
basketball game. I'm not saying John Albert actually did it.
I'm saying, you know, it would be funny if he did. Anyway,
it's Steve Disager with what's trending.
Speaker 8 (30:49):
You could have just said Halliburton period and it would
be some overpriced comment.
Speaker 3 (30:53):
But very nice home team so far, too big to fail?
Wasn't that the big?
Speaker 4 (30:59):
Was that?
Speaker 8 (30:59):
Or No, the Houston Astro Stadium, as you recall they opened, Yes,
it did fail.
Speaker 3 (31:06):
Good So far.
Speaker 8 (31:07):
In the NBA and NHL postseasons, the home teams in
the second round are one in seven. Let's start with
the Minnesota home game. Golden State beat him to open
a second round series ninety nine eighty eight, but Steph
Curry did leave in the first half with a strained hamstring.
But he heald scored twenty four points Minnesota in the
first half from three point range.
Speaker 3 (31:26):
Was zero for fifteen.
Speaker 8 (31:27):
Indiana's up two games to none after winning at Cleveland
won twenty to one. Nineteen Pacers were down by seven
with under a minute left. Tyrese Halliburton the hero, the
game winning three pointer after his offensive rebound. He had
nineteen points nine rebounds. In fact, according to stat Zinc,
in the last twenty years of the NBA, this was
the first what Halliburton did to rebound his own free
(31:50):
throw miss and then hit a game winning three, all
in the last fifteen seconds of a contest playoffs or
regular season. Donovan Mitchell forty eight points in the law.
Three of his teammates were out due to injury, cap
starter Ty Jerome one of fourteen shooting from the floor.
And the NBA's Executive of the Year is Oklahoma City
general manager Sam Presty. That team is sixty eight and
(32:14):
fourteen regular season outscored opponents by thirteen points per game.
He'd finished second for this award three times, dating back
to twenty ten.
Speaker 3 (32:22):
The Florida Gators, where did Nico Harrison finish? Yeah, he
was not. In the Lakers GM Nico Harrison, where did
he finish? Yeah?
Speaker 8 (32:30):
They should have maybe well, of course, this isn't other gms.
Speaker 3 (32:33):
I don't. Oh, okay, just want to make sure I'd
want it. It is Executive of the Year. It could
be other gms.
Speaker 8 (32:38):
But there are other executives, all right, all right, you know,
like the team president of Cleveland finished second, but it's
the vice president who actually wins the award. From Okase,
Florida Gators gave coach Todd golden and extension through twenty
thirty one. In NHL second round openers, Carolina won at
Washington in overtime two to one, and Edmonton came back
to win at Vegas four to two. Notre Dame football
(33:01):
signed to play Clemson for twelve straight years, starting in
twenty twenty seven to Major League Baseball. The late game
two Seattle with three runs in the top of the ninth,
beating the A's five to three.
Speaker 3 (33:11):
In Anaheim, the.
Speaker 8 (33:12):
Angel scored six times in the eighth to win eight
three over Toronto. Arizona beat the Mets five to one,
Milwaukee four to three over Houston. Kansas City with two
undarned runs in the bottom of the ninth, beat the
White Sox four to three, game winning RBI to Bobby
Witt Junior see Saint Louis beat Pittsburgh and Pole Skiings
two to one. Six straight losses for the Pirates. Detroit
(33:34):
at Colorado rained out. They'll play a doubleheader on Thursday.
Atlanta in ten innings edge Cincinnati two to one, wins
for Minnesota and Philadelphia for Texas and the Giants, who
in eleven innings won fourteen to five at the Cubs.
Washington and Cleveland split a doubleheader. The Yankees scored ten
runs in the seventh to beat the Padres twelve three,
ending the Pod six game winning streak Miami and ten
(33:56):
innings edge the Dodgers five to four.
Speaker 3 (33:58):
Back to you, Thank you, Steve O.
Speaker 1 (34:00):
Jason Smith, Mike Harmon live from the Fox Sports Radio
Studios coming up next. If you missed it, you'll hear
the Chris Finch and Edwards comments again. Plus we'll tell
you what every home team that has lost so far
in the second round has in common. What is it?
It's not all that they're down in the series. That's
next right here, Jason and Mike Fox.
Speaker 2 (34:22):
Call me elf one more time. Be sure to catch
live editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon
weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven pm Pacific.
Speaker 1 (34:35):
Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show is my best friend,
Mike Harmon. Yeah, and there's a big point to make
about all the teams that are down right now in
the NBA plays, all the favorites, all the teams and oh,
I got it, what's that day?
Speaker 3 (34:51):
Stay? No, no, no, no, no, it's not that easy. I wish
it was pretty good though. There is a point to make,
and the jumping off point comes from this. Following the
timberwolves incredibly embarrassing loss to the Warriors tonight where the
Warriors played all but thirteen minutes without Steph Curry and
the Tea Wolves never made a run, Chris Finch extremely
(35:14):
upset with his team, upset with ann Edwards. Oh yes,
following the game, was upset that he didn't come out
and set the tone when he felt, hey, we have
to set a tone for the game, and Aunt Edwards
didn't do it, and ed Edwards completely disagreed and blew
off what Chris Finch said. So here's Chris Finch with
what he had to say when he was asked about
(35:35):
Anthony Edwards play and then Edwards getting the question saying, hey,
coach just said this about you. What do you think
you do agree or disagree? Here's Finch and Ann Edwards.
What is there to talk about.
Speaker 7 (35:46):
I mean, they're the leader of the team, and you
got to come out and set the tone, you know,
in all ways that that happens, and if your SHOT's
not going like, you still have to carry the.
Speaker 3 (35:58):
Energy, you know.
Speaker 7 (35:59):
So I don't think there's if I got to talk
to guys about having the right energy coming into opening
around game opening the second round game, then you know
we're not you know, we're not on the same page.
Speaker 4 (36:11):
So coach was saying that he relies on you to
set the tone from the start, and he didn't quite
see that. Do you feel like you were off at all,
just in that department or just kind of the way
each started the game?
Speaker 7 (36:22):
Nah?
Speaker 3 (36:24):
I feel like I played great defense. I just can't
do nothing offense. So nah, nah, it's almost like that
Belichick club we played. Nah.
Speaker 1 (36:33):
So now the story going into game two are the
head coach and star player at odds right, this is
what happens, and this is what happens to teams when
you have a great regular season.
Speaker 3 (36:44):
Is what happens. Larry's what happens. That's not my car
This is what happens when you when you.
Speaker 1 (36:53):
Get to play and then you have to play with expectations. Right,
we talked about the Churls and how with XS the
last two playoffs things are different. They're a different team
and now they look like they're absolutely melting after one game.
But the same can be said for Oklahoma City, who
all of a sudden they become the power this year. Hey,
you're the best team in the NBA. Wow, they go
(37:14):
through the regular season. Now what happens when you got
to close and play with expectation. They blow the game
to the Nuggets in game one. Same thing with the Caves.
Caves best team in the end. Look at this offense.
How are they gonna be beaten front runners all season long?
Now you play a good team. Finally, that's not a
great matchup, and what happens you're down oh two? You
lose the first two games at home.
Speaker 3 (37:34):
Right.
Speaker 1 (37:34):
Same thing with Boston. Hey, Boston played last year, but
they came into this year as the champs. All of
a sudden, Hey, here's the heavy as the head that
lies to the crowd. What do we see in game
one when they're playing a good team for the first time,
they were completely banging their heads against the wall trying
to do the same thing. We're gonna keep shooting threes.
We're gonna keep shooting threes n till we make them,
and that was a horrible strategy. There's something to be
(37:56):
said for playing with expectation when I'm playing fas asked
and free and loose during the season. But now the
playoffs come and we're playing good teams and the expectations
we can't deal with them. And look at the teams
that are winning now. The Knicks, yeah, they've been able
to win dealing with expectation. The Pacers last year as well,
the same thing, right, the Nuggets are champions. We've seen that,
(38:16):
We've seen the Warriors obviously playing with expectations. These teams
much more comfortable doing that than the teams that are
losing now.
Speaker 3 (38:23):
Yeah, I mean the Knicks, there's not a lot of
expectation for this series.
Speaker 1 (38:26):
No, but they've the last two years they have played
with all kinds of heavy expectations.
Speaker 3 (38:30):
In the regular season and then you get to bed
in the playoffs and they had first series against the Sixers,
big big playoff against the Pacers. They would have won
if they didn't if everybody didn't get hurt and that happened. Yeah, right,
but either happened. They played great. They would have been
in the Eastern Conference. Five would have been could have been.
You can go simulate it on your video game system
with your four Jalen Brunson's and Tom googly out and
(38:51):
one time gon Google. We gotta listen to the whole show.
But all of that to say, I mean, you look
at closing, right, And that's the question that's coming up
with the Celtics again. It's like taking charge uh and
finishing a game out. Jalen Brown wasn't playing well. Then
you had Jason Tatum uh taking some inexplicable threes and
as a group made look at the shot chart from
(39:12):
the first half. Yeah, they shot a lot of threes.
They took care of business in the paint quite a
bit as well. Went away from that let the Knicks
back in the game. For this one, I have to
ask the obvious questions, since we do it all the time,
have they photoshop Chris Finch into a Lakers uniform yet
Chris Finch Chris Well, because it's not gonna be Anthony Edwards.
He wins that fight. Yeah, yeah, no, I don't, I
(39:33):
don't know. We can't do the usual cliche. He he's
gonna be a laker because he's gonna leave, he's gonna photoshop.
We don't know how trash, but yeah, just a pathetic
effort from him, offensively, and you saw a listless squad.
He's supposed to be your leader. Uh and you watched
Draymond Green and every other member all the way down
(39:54):
to Pat Spencer bully.
Speaker 1 (39:55):
You for for when you watch teams that didn't have
to play with X dictation, try to win and try
to close in big moments, and they're playing teams that
have done so right. There's a reason Jalen Brunson was
voted the clutch Player of the Year because he makes
those shots. You'll Kitchen and the Nuggets, they make those shots.
They're the champs. You've seen that time.
Speaker 3 (40:14):
The Warriors have made every single instance of this Jimmy
Butler as they all have. But all these young teams, Yeah,
we're great, We're great. Oh now it's serious. Oh wait,
things are a little bit different than I thought it
was gonna be. Fight night in Minnesota.
Speaker 1 (40:27):
Let's go get ready, get ready, Let's get it on
get ready, Knicks, Nicks, Nicks.
Speaker 3 (40:33):
Nick telling it. The more results come in, the Knicks
are going to the Knick.
Speaker 1 (40:39):
Wait the uh the Celtics plus ten and a half,
now give me the nixt They covered forty point beat
down tomorrow. That's not gonna come on. Man, if that
could that happen? Could No, it's forty point Forty's not
gonna happen. Fortyes, not I guess say not happening, not happening.
(40:59):
X it out by the Fresca exit Swollen Dome for Mike.
I'm Jason coming up next, my buddy Ben Mallor. This
is Fox Sports Radio Mix. Are going to the Final
