Speaker 2 (00:23):
If you're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
Hello, Welcome inside final hour tonight at the Jason Smith
Show with my bes friend Mike Harmon. Bears, who is
probably still drunk with celebratory excitement over the Bears walk
off win over the Chiefs tonight. Just think if this
was the regular season the Super Bowl, Man, how happy
you would be?
Speaker 3 (00:49):
Well, you know, it's the long road begins with the
first steps. You gotta learn how to win, gotta learn
how to win close games. You gotta have Tyson Bage.
It'd be brilliant to get the Yeah in Chicago something
to talk about. And let's face it, coming out of
this weekend's games, as we get ready for Week one
of the regular season, folks will give a little nod
(01:10):
back to Week zero of college football. But unless something
crazy happens in that game in Ireland, or we hit
the over on that sixty four points that South Florida
Boise Steate game. There's not a lot of juice, there's
not a lot of excitement. So no, that'll be a
top story on Monday. Right, we just figure out where
we're at in the cul de sac. Wait, were we
(01:31):
positive about Caleb on Friday?
Speaker 1 (01:34):
Okay?
Speaker 3 (01:34):
Native? What did we say about Shador on Friday? All right?
Other side? What did we say about Micah and Jerry?
All right? Go the other way? All right, there you go.
There's our three stories. Any other story that's worth mentioning
out there? That's it. That's all.
Speaker 1 (01:48):
Oh, it's awesome all the Bears. Oh this could be
as good as it gets for the Bears. Like what
if In the end when they do their NFL Films
video the Bears twenty twenty five season, the big thing
they show is the Bagent walk off pass to beat
the Chiefs, right, and the Bears a big future behind
Tyson Bagent that we saw after the final preseason game. Unfortunately,
(02:11):
that was as good as we're gonna get. As the
Bear started out h to six before making that quarterback
change like this, could be it. Man, this could be
as good as it gets for the Bears.
Speaker 3 (02:19):
Well, I'm glad this became the highlight that starts to
run around because the other one was, you know, as
positive as you may try to put a spin on things,
it was not a clean half of football by any stretch,
even though the numbers would suggest otherwise. Right, box score
versus watching is what the offense was doing against the
Chiefs starters and what Caleb Williams put up. The play
(02:40):
that defined that first half for me was another I've
got T minus eighteen thousand in the pocket and yet
I still absorb a sack. Look holding, holding, holding. Meanwhile
they're counting to ten on Giannis at the free throw line,
get rid of the ball.
Speaker 1 (02:56):
Well, look, manja listen, I'm sure he would have thrown
it if somebody would.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
Not eight times last year. We could go back through
the tape. Let's go through the old twenty two and
find out how many times he should have yelled hot route.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
It's not Camleb William's fault that sometimes receivers need fifteen
or eighteen seconds to get open. I mean, he just
got just gota, you know, just hold this, you guys,
gotta keep trying more. I gotta keep running more.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
Hey hey, hey, they gave Ryan Polls an extension. Like
Dave Wanstat said all those years ago so famously as
Bear's head coach, all the pieces are in place unless
they're not.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
I think that was back when you had Curtis Conway.
That's what all the no.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
I like to working with Curtis. He was fine. So meanwhile,
you hit the media by the way I run around
the locker.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
Room today and this week was gonna end with Okay, Well,
we had some great drama with Jerry Jones and Micah Parsons.
No no, no, no no, we got another chapter in
that saga both today and tonight. It wasn't enough that
a day ago Jerry Jones gave us the the well
the comment of the summer when we had Michael Irv
when he did, if we got Michael Irvan from last night,
(04:04):
let me know if we have it, uh Ian and
Mary uh if talking to Michael Irvin, Hey, if the
situation would get better, could you sign Michah Parses to
a contract. And Jerry Jones responded by saying, well, we
thought we had a deal. We sent the offer over
to the agent, and the agent told us to stick
it up our blank, right, I mean we you know
(04:26):
that was gold Jerry, it was gold.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
Well, I'd love to hear what the actual conversation was,
because Muga Letters said, well, no, no, I never really, I
wouldn't say it in those crowds.
Speaker 1 (04:36):
It doesn't matter what the conversation was. Jerry Jones says,
the agent told us to stick it up our blanke.
It doesn't bet. That's all right, right, it's a better
story this way. Let's hear it one more time. Here's
Jerry Jones from last night.
Speaker 4 (04:49):
We wanted to send the details to the agent.
Speaker 1 (04:51):
The agent sold, all right, So that's it. So that
was the thing from That would be enough, right, that
would be enough. No, no, no, we got two new
chapters today. First, Jerry Jones goes on ESPN and again
(05:12):
goes into detail about why the Micah Parsons contract isn'tsolved.
Right as he said, I thought we had to deal
with Michaeh. Parsons. Micah's agent called and said we didn't,
and all of this hilarity has ensued. So Jerry Jones
has been on a heater man. This week has been
a heater for Jerry. So here he is on ESPN
earlier today talking about giving an analogy as to why
(05:37):
the Micah Parsons contract hasn't been signed. There's a big
takeaway from this, but I want you to listen to
what he says first as we try to make sense
of who's who in this analogy.
Speaker 4 (05:48):
Not doing the old mother dad deal. How many times
have you seen the little rascal so clever going there
and Mama told him you're not going to get it
and goes into Daddy, who only sees him at the
after five and a half none mores to love him
and says, you can have it, son, you can have
that before dinner. And he goes back in and says,
(06:09):
Mom and Daddy said I can have it. That's Mom
and Dad had been around since the beginning the time.
I'm not gonna go for that year. That's what's happening.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
I love it. Now.
Speaker 1 (06:18):
He's cursing all the time, like Jerry Jones is not
saying a blanket. Man, I'm eighty, I don't give her crap,
and I'm gonna say what I'm gonna curse an interviews
and you're gonna have to bleep me out right.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
Like, tell me you haven't been nervous with family members
or friends that you're out with that they've hit that point. Uh.
Speaker 1 (06:36):
I am gonna say I've not been at that point,
but I'd be absolutely lying to you. So U. But
here's the thing now, right, this is what I don't understand.
I don't know who Jerry Jones is in this analogy, okay,
because initially, okay, so it's the kid who wants something.
Mom said no, Dad says yes. Okay, so we know
there's three people involved in this. It's Jerry Jones. And
(06:59):
I was gonna of Kayleb Williams and Michaeh Parsons and
Michaeh Parsons agent right six forty two.
Speaker 3 (07:04):
Seconds Caleb held the ball by the way.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
All right, So so so let's say okay, So let's say, okay,
Michael Parsons is the kid and he goes to mom
and he wants the contract what Mom says no, goes
to dad. Dad says yes. But we're not going through that.
I don't think Jerry Jones is dad in this situation
(07:27):
because you know, there'd be nobody to be upset at,
Like if if if Michaeh Parsons wanted the money, and
Jerry Jones said, yeah, here it is. There's nobody to
get mad at, right, get.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
Mad at your agent if he declined whatever it is
you were asking for.
Speaker 1 (07:41):
Right, But this is where if he's getting what he wants,
this is the deal, right, Like, if.
Speaker 3 (07:45):
This is where it cats, he go fire the agent.
Is this what what it ends at? So but he
would have let's go with the geta and just goes
to Jerry Joe's I hate to say the dad thing
like he hate but the analogy because he gets into
a weird space.
Speaker 1 (07:59):
But no, but I because he would have done that.
I think he he would have got rid of his
agent said I'm signing this deal if the deal was
that good.
Speaker 3 (08:05):
So he's the most powerful agent in the world. Is
what's He's sick of pants and the anti Jerry writers
Dallas keep telling me.
Speaker 1 (08:13):
So I don't think Jerry Jones is the Dad. Well,
I feel like Vessini and Princess Pride. So I clearly
cannot choose the glass in front of me. However, I
also cannot choose a glass in front of you. Okay,
So now is Jerry Jones the kid in this situation.
He wants to give Micah Parsons money. He goes to
the mom, which is the agent, and the agent says no,
(08:33):
goes to the dad who's Michah Parsons. The dad says yes.
So then Jerry goes back to the mom and says,
dad said I could have it. So Jerry Jones clearly
could be the kid in this situation. Okay, so you
think he's the dad the way he's talking about things.
The dad in the situation wants to love the kid. Okay,
(08:54):
so we could so potentially he could be the dad,
he could be the kid. He could also be a
mom because if Cayleb William's going to mom say no, no,
I don't want this. I don't want this. Okay, that's fine,
But I go to dad, Dad says yes. Like I
go to my agent, my agent says this is what
I want. I go to mom. Mom doesn't want me
to have it. And now we have a situation that
Jerry Jones says he doesn't want to get involved in.
(09:16):
So Jerry Jones could be the dad or the kid
or the mom in this I and Mary, you've been
following along intently. What do you think and don't get
involved in a land war in Asia.
Speaker 3 (09:29):
Well that's good advice.
Speaker 5 (09:32):
I mean I feel like the dad is the agent.
That's the way I viewed, because I feel that Jerry's
the mom and Micah the kid wanted a cookie or
a big contract with lots of guarantees, and Jerry came
and told him he couldn't have it. And then he
went to dad, David Mullagatta, the agent, who told him, yeah,
you do deserve all that, you should have all that.
(09:54):
And now Jerry the mom is upset because he just
told him that he couldn't have it.
Speaker 1 (09:59):
Okay, again, could be the mom. I clearly cannot choose
the classes.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
No, but that's just it, right. We get it. We
get it all all the way through. I mean, depending
on you know what visual of Jerry Jones you want.
I kind of like liking him to remember Montgomery Burns
when he has the flashbacks and he's got that hat
with like the tassel on and the little sailor suit on,
and he's got his lollipop. Isn't that what you're picturing
Jerry Jones as just a kid running.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
Around And asked this the curls coming out? Yeah, part
of the little.
Speaker 3 (10:29):
Rascals as we go. But yeah, I mean some of
it is is Jerry's the kid because he wants, you know,
Micah Parsons is the the the ultimate in terms of
you know, for the sake of this analogy, the toy
or the cookie or whatever he's looking for, uh and Micah.
Then you decide which side he's on, right. I guess
(10:49):
in this case he would have to be the dad. Right.
This gets Mulligata back to the mom you want him
to have it.
Speaker 1 (10:57):
Your intellect is truly dizzying.
Speaker 3 (10:59):
By the way, thanks Boddy. I was waiting for that
line for one of us, so I'm glad it was
described to me. I'll go to bed sleeping just slightly
easier tonight. As we broke this down, this is kind
of like when Bursch started going into all the parts
of speech and diagramming this like it was something that
was gonna win him an award yesterday when we were
(11:20):
breaking down the quote Jerry had on the Michael Irvin
podcast about you know where to stick things. So with this,
it's it is a fun conundrum. I like that Jerry
is now just opening up his open mic night for
lack of a better term.
Speaker 1 (11:38):
Well, and you fink you've given everything away. I know
who Jerry Jones is. Oh my goodness, what could that be?
What in the world could that be? Look, this is
Jerry Jones simply doing what we've said months ago. And
now I congratulations here all the media people who have
picked this up today and got credit for it online.
I no longer care about credit. Just send me money,
(12:01):
so like a royalty check, so Mike and I can
put money in our daughter's college account.
Speaker 3 (12:05):
I've been looking for a little associate producer.
Speaker 1 (12:09):
Just send me cash.
Speaker 3 (12:10):
Story you buy, I mean whatever, you gotta do.
Speaker 1 (12:13):
What we have said clearly. Oh, we'll look at what's
going on here. Jerry Jones can't win on the field,
right he can't. It's been thirty years. He has shown
that I can't win on the field. So what does
he try to do? I try to win off the
field as much as possible, whether it's money wise, whether
it's relevancy, whether it's attention. And he's looking around saying,
(12:36):
last thirty some odd years, nobody has done the job
as owner as I have. The Dallas Cowboys are now
probably worth fifteen to twenty billion dollars if somebody wanted
to buy this team. Look at the riches we've made
for the NFL. Still, no matter what kind of team
I have, everybody cares about what we're doing. I care
about the Cowboys being in the national conversation. So I
(12:58):
find a way to make it happen all the time.
I let my star players sit around for a while
before I pay him because I like the attention. Look,
we've told you this, you know, time and again and again. Congratulations,
everybody picked it up today. I hope it did well
for you on social media. H Jerry Jones. No, he
can't win on the field, so he wins off the field.
And that's This is a thirty year playbook for him. Man.
(13:20):
But now his time is getting you know, going on.
His time is getting a little bit shorter now. He's
in his eighties. It's been thirty years since they won.
Now things are getting ramped up a little bit. He's
cursing during interviews. He's appearing more often, like he did
a he did a blitz this week in the media,
Like like Tom Cruise did when when when one of
the one of his latest Mission Impossible movies came out. Hey,
(13:40):
he's gonna be on. He's gonna be on Jimmy Fallon's
couch on Monday, He's gonna be here on Tuesday's doing
an interviewer Wednesdays. Like that's kind of what Jerry Jones
is doing. Man, all the attention, Micah Barzons, everything, like
this is Jerry Jones again. This is a thirty year playbook, right.
And if you think this is gonna end with Jerry
Jones and Michah Parsons with their arms around each other,
(14:02):
Parsons tonight at the game fell asleep or pretended he
was asleep because he knew pictures would be taken of
him laying on a laying on a on a table
on the sideline of the game tonight. And if you
think this is gonna end, well, I just say this.
Jerry Jones has had his fair share of contract negotiations.
Not once publicly has he disparaged the player or disparaged
(14:26):
the agent. He's let it go on, but it's always
been a hey, I know what I'm doing. Business is business.
He's never disparaged Dak or Ezekiel Elliott or CD Lamb
or anybody else who's gotten paid or their agents, like hey,
we're gonna get it done. It's it's negotiated this and that.
But this is where Michah Parsons has talked about it
being personal. Jerry Jones is talking about being personally swearing
(14:50):
every interview he does, and it is just ramping itself
up with which side can raise the other. How does
this end with? Oh yeah, Michaeh Parsons, Jerry Jones at
the press conferences, he signs that big contract, I can't
see it. And when he gets traded, which we said
was gonna be the outcome from the beginning, when Parsons
went on social media and said I no longer want
(15:10):
to be here. That's a big thing. When a player
does that, like nothing is angling at all towards We're
gonna get this done. It's personal between the two, and
Jerry Jones has led it fester and become really personal,
telling him, man, he's lost his fastball. He's lost his fastball.
He's gonna lose the best defensive player in the NFL
because he's not the negotiator that he was, because not
(15:32):
every player is dak or CD or Ezekiel Elliot where
they're gonna allow you to win the media ward and
they're gonna get paid at the end. This has gotten
out of control and personal and Jerry Jones is gonna
lose now.
Speaker 3 (15:44):
Schottenheimer after the game today added, after talking about Hey,
we'll look at the film, we'll talk to everybody involved,
great assessment, what we did off and blah blah blah,
said he still believes Parsons will play in the first
game of the regular season. Now, Parsons, no, even if
it was for eight seconds to get the phone to
op of him laying on the table, I think you
probably lost a bunch of cowboy fans that might have
(16:05):
been on your side by takeing to this. So this
is where I have a little bit of fun and
we've had a little bit of a disagreement, uh in
terms of how this ends up playing out. I wonder
if some of this isn't you know, just w W
E k fabe. Look, you don't want to play in preseason.
We don't need you to.
Speaker 1 (16:22):
Play more than just we don't want to play him.
Speaker 3 (16:27):
I'm gonna get a little wild here. We need some buzz,
So play with me for a little while. Uh, And
it's all at wwe work on. In the end, he
gets his novelty check and people are happy. But what
will be interesting is, you know, when we start getting
the fish wraps tomorrow and look it's Friday night, uh,
final preseason game, that photo starts making the rounds. We're
(16:50):
talking about it here on Fox Sports Radio at how
about a Frescats walling dome at Fox Sports Radio. Uh
to find the picture of it and all. But it'll
start to grow some lights, right, It'll be part of
the pregame discussions tomorrow as we get into the final
throws of these preseason games, UH, and it becomes this
larger talking point. I'll be curious to see how the
wind blows in terms of Wow, Jerry's out of spot, Well,
(17:13):
what's he doing laying down? That's you know the fans
like if you want to bring them in for whatever
their percentages of this spy, you ain't winning folks over
doing that. Like, if you don't want to be there,
don't show up. Exit up out of Fresca.
Speaker 1 (17:27):
Exit swallen do on the Jason Smith Show with my
best friend Mike carmen Upta, this is not how it
goes if you're gonna sign the guy to a contract.
We got more NFL on the way, but straight ahead.
You've heard the phrase October surprise when it comes to politics,
like sometimes that happens for a presidential election. Hey, October
surprise and something comes up that upsets the polls. But
(17:48):
could we be in for a September surprise involving one
of the biggest stars in all of sports. That's next
right here, Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 6 (18:00):
He's Mike Harman, I'm Dan Bayern. We have a brand
new fantasy football podcast called I Want Your Flex. Twice
a week, every Tuesday and Friday, we come up with
new episodes to not only look back at what happened,
what you need to do at that minute, and also
look ahead of what's coming up in the fantasy football world.
Speaker 3 (18:19):
That's right, Dan. Every week we're going to scour the
waiver wire to find the pickups to turbo boost your
fantasy lineup six starts, fantasy football players rankings to get
you ready to dominate the competition.
Speaker 6 (18:32):
Listen to I Want Your Flex with Mike Carmon and
me Dan Byer on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, and
wherever you get your podcasts.
Speaker 2 (18:39):
Be sure to catch live editions of the Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (18:51):
Nolan McClain's a cy young winner, Up with the Mets,
Up with the Mets, Hee by b the MVP, Up
with the Mets, Up with the Mets.
Speaker 3 (19:01):
He should be able to pitch.
Speaker 1 (19:02):
Every day McLain every day, mclayin every day, by words,
by a.
Speaker 3 (19:08):
Song Friday night into Saturday morning. Wherever you are, however
you're listening, thank you for being part of the show.
And you go and do that well.
Speaker 1 (19:17):
I mean clearly, forget about you know, Kyle Schwarbur and
his seventy five home runs. Nolan McClain is single handedly
keeping the Mets afloat. He's the MVP and the saw
Young Winner.
Speaker 3 (19:27):
He's the best McClain since.
Speaker 1 (19:30):
John mcclainn probably yeah, yeah, I mean really, I'll be
real and I'll tell you this one hundred percent. I'll
get I'll get ahead of the curve on this. We
are so and I say we Mets fans, we are
so making him into Paul Skins, just like Patriots fans
tried to make mac Jones into Tom Brady. We're gonna
make Nolan McClain Paul skeins the spin rate on his cutter.
(19:51):
All can look at the savior that he is two
games in the seventh inning, in both games everything they need.
I mean, he's he is Paul Skins man. He he
has Skins. In fact, we're gonna make him, you know,
cut his hands. You guys have mustache, just like Paul
Skin's gonna make him date Livy Done. All these things
are gonna We're totally making that happen.
Speaker 3 (20:08):
What do you Why are you trying to break up
Skins and Livy Done. There's such a cute power couple.
Speaker 1 (20:14):
Well, because we're making let them find well, let him
find his own version of Livy Done.
Speaker 3 (20:19):
How dare you? We were love around here?
Speaker 2 (20:22):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (20:22):
But it works better if you know, but it works better. Okay,
it's an easier jump to go. Oh okay, so again,
So now he's a new Paul Skins.
Speaker 3 (20:28):
Maybe she's got a friend and they can work from there.
But you know, you see what you're doing to yourself again, though.
Speaker 1 (20:36):
I know I'm buying back in look what you're doing.
Speaker 3 (20:40):
I got oh, look at this guy. Every fifth day.
He's a hero.
Speaker 1 (20:47):
But we are so gonna do it doesn't matter, It
doesn't matter. He's the Dark Night, He's all of it.
He's all of the Avengers. I love the Avengers.
Speaker 3 (20:59):
Let's go.
Speaker 1 (20:59):
He's all of them. He's not just one Avenger. He's
and I mean like Avengers Endgame where they all come
back at the end and there's like fifty of them.
He's all the Avengers.
Speaker 3 (21:08):
Did you you know, get excitable when that happened and
they started coming through all the portals?
Speaker 1 (21:13):
You say, ah, what do we do? Oh no, that
was exciting. Man, that was awesome. Now the whole theater
went nuts. Then you hear that cap on your left,
like you know it's coming obviously, right, you know it's
coming back on your left, and here they are. It's like,
I mean, there was such a it's such a great moment.
Speaker 3 (21:27):
I just wish Grew would have said Avengers assembles blown
up the universe right there?
Speaker 1 (21:33):
Yeah, Or if Grew could have cursed like Jerry Jones
now does in all his interviews.
Speaker 3 (21:37):
You said that, like, it's wrong. I think this is
He's now on one of those tours where he's, you know,
the old rock star and he's not quite sure where
he is anymore. So they they flipped the guitar upside
down so he remembers what town he's in.
Speaker 1 (21:53):
Because no town rocks like spring Fair. All right, who
am I talking to your Mike?
Speaker 3 (21:59):
Right you?
Speaker 1 (22:02):
In politics, we get October surprises now and again, not
every presidential election, but there's an October surprise in which
some unexpected storyline crops up and it affects the polls
one way or the other. Right, it's a fairly regular thing.
Not again, not all, not every single election. Do we
get it, but we get it. In sports, we could
(22:26):
be on the cusp of a September surprise story breaks today.
Bleach your report, New York Posts. A lot of places
have it that the Golden State Warriors, for the better
part of the last eighteen months have been calling the
Lakers regularly trying to trade for Lebron James. I picture
like Michael Fabiano Sports Illustrated, one of my just like
(22:50):
heat Tree calls you for trades and texts you all
the time until you just say, okay, will you not
text me anymore if I make this trade with you? Yes, Okay,
here's the trade. He's like, ah, I did it, and
you go I shouldn't have made that trade, but I
couldn't take another text. Oh my goodness. So here's the
Warriors continuing to call the Lakers about Lebron James, Lebron
James and has been no, no, no, no no. But
(23:12):
I don't think it's any coincidence that this story comes
up now, because this entire summer has been all of
these quote messages that we're told, don't read into any
of these, don't read in the fact that Lebron is
working out at the Clippers facility, went why are you
working out the clip You're a Laker, why are you
working out there? He's working out at the Cavs facility,
he's got a hat on, saying welcome home when he's
(23:33):
back in Cleveland. All these things that have happened. They
were not reading into any of this. When the Lakers
gave Luka Doncich his big contract extension, that was the
moment where they said, we are all in on Luca
and Lebron. You are just part of what we're doing
and we're moving on from you in the offseason. This
is your last year with the Lakers. You opted into
(23:55):
the contract. We wish we could go back and do
that differently, but fifty two million you opted in, and
so you're here. But we have seen trades the last
few years a couple of times, including Kyrie Irving Big
NBA and Karl Anthony towns Uh to the Knicks last year.
Happened in September before teams go to training camp. And
this is one of those cases where the Lakers and
(24:18):
Lebron have been doing a dance for a while, each
one wanting to dare the other. Hey, if you want out, Lebron,
you gotta say you want out. You gotta say buy
me out. We're gonna save money on this deal. And
Lebron is daring the Lakers to say, hey, guess what
you're gonna trade me. You're gonna trade me where I
wanna go. And here's all these teams that potentially he
(24:38):
is just hanging out with where Hey, guess what I'm
hanging out with Jokic's agent. Oh yeah, well, oh, who
knows what gonna happen? Plans for the for the fall
of twenty twenty six. Wait a minute, Wait a minute,
what do you mean. So we've seen now the Nuggets
and the Clippers and and the and the Cavaliers and
now here's the Warriors. These are all places that Lebron
could potentially go. He could stay in and go to
(25:00):
the Clippers with Kawhi and Harden and been put together
the over thirty five all stars, right, and try to
make it happen. Right, Still, stay in LA could go
back home to Cleveland and make it work right Golden State. Now, hey,
I didn't want to leave before, but I can leave
now and I can go there. And before you think that, okay,
it's not going to happen, as can't happen. I keep
(25:22):
going back to this, and I can't shake this. Is
that Lebron has stirred the drink in the end, being
the start that stirred the drink in the NBA for
the past twenty years. He loves being the biggest icon
in the NBA. Right, doesn't want that to change even
when he retires. Whatever he does after, he wants to
move into retirement. But he still has at least probably
two or three more years left to go wherever he goes.
(25:44):
It's not like, hey, I'm loading up for one last run.
The guy is still a top ten or fifteen player
in the game, right, He's still got a lot left
in the tank. Is he really going to go through
a season where he is a spare part, where he
is not the focus of an orb organization, where he
is not the Lakers focus, where it's all about Luca
and he's got to be a supporting player in the
(26:07):
Luca circus. Not gonna happen. Lebron James is not gonna
do that because that's exactly what this year is gonna be.
And you think he's gonna do it, He's not gonna
go through a year that way. So while you think, okay,
now it's August already, he's a September surprise. Man. I
still believe that's happening, whether it's it's some kind of
crazy trade or a buyout that lets him go where
(26:28):
the Lakers saved money and then they can make a
late trade for a couple of players that they want
to move in around Luca that they think might work
better because they're building for the next decade of the
Lakers around Luka Doncic. That September surprise, there's no coincidence.
Here's a warrior story. He can go there and he
can be the savior in Golden State. He's done it before.
(26:49):
He's gone to Miami where it wasn't his team, He's
made it his team. He goes into Golden State, No,
it's Steph's team. You think, okay, but Lebron, you know,
might wind up being you know, the Steph Curry's side. No,
he's not. If they win in Golden State, it's gonna
be because of Lebron. You watch KD go up there.
Steph Curry is definitely one of those superstars that doesn't
have an ego where I'm not gonna allow another player
(27:11):
to come in, like he went into Miami and Dwayne
Wade having the ego to say, I understand this was
my team. I'll step back because Lebron you're gonna get
us there. He sees the same thing with Steph Curry.
Steph has that great This is why people want to
go play with Steph and they love Steph. Hey, it's
my team, but I'll step back. I don't need it.
I want to win. So you come in, Lebron, you win. Hey,
(27:32):
that's okay, you can get all the credit. He can
go to Golden State and do this. He can't sit
where he once was the main express where it was
Lebron and the Lakers and then all of a sudden
get pushed to the side and get on that Florida
Staples forty one times a year and do it and
go on the road and be a supporting player for
Luka Doncic. I just can't see that happening, Mike. Yeah,
(27:53):
at some.
Speaker 3 (27:54):
Point you gotta recognize where you are. Right, you're living
up here, but maybe you should be that what's that
eight mile line?
Speaker 1 (28:00):
Time to stop living up here, time to start living
down here. Yeah, I recognize where you're at. At this point,
you were the guy that was in charge. They looked
around and they said, you know, this isn't working anymore.
We're not getting to the promised land. And eventually we've
got to build towards the future, new ownership and a
new philosophy. And there it is, tadah, here's undercover of night.
(28:21):
Luka Doncis comes rolling through, and again I still don't believe,
no matter how many people want to try to convince
me that Lebron James had no idea what was going on,
but it just went straight to voicemail. I don't know,
but all of that to say, they're trading his guy
and he doesn't even get a heads up from Anthony
Davis and the Clutch Agency.
Speaker 3 (28:43):
No, it doesn't pass the smell test. But all of
that to say, as we look at this, you know
Steph Curry still gets all the credit for those titles.
So even if Lebron went up there, sure they'll be
the folks lining up to give him all his flowers.
But Kevin Durant, part of the reason he was frustrated
is he got no credit even though you got the
finals MVB two years. He was salty that he was
(29:05):
still it's Clay, it's Draymond, it's Steph and you as
the other guy coming in. As for the buy out thing,
I'd make him give every dollar of those fifty two
point six million dollars back. Get you get nothing. You
made the option to opt in. Otherwise you could have
gone and tested the marketplace to see what someone wants
to give you somewhere else. You could have done that
(29:28):
freely and just walked away.
Speaker 1 (29:29):
But you did that way. Then let me ask you,
does he have to give it back in a check
or does he have to bring in a briefcase and
actually hand it over.
Speaker 3 (29:35):
Oh, the briefcase would be good. Well, no, Actually, can
he get bringing like the merse that he had when
he wore that suit with the oh young yeah, like
he was angus young that time. And then he stormed
out because I'm.
Speaker 1 (29:46):
Thinking like I'm thinking like in the movie where the
guy hands the money over and the big boss says
count it, and the guy opens it's all here and
he okay, great, and then either you know, they shoot
each other or they leave or the cops show up
or something and count it. It's all all right, thanks
for that money, Lebron, We'll see you down the road.
Good luck.
Speaker 3 (30:02):
And the accountant walks out with the fifty two million
the guy that really wasn't in the meeting because everybody
else is now dead. Like now you've written a crime.
Speaker 1 (30:12):
Spoiler, yeah, spoiler.
Speaker 3 (30:13):
Well, I mean, look, it's any any movie USA going
back a good fifty years here. But you know, for Lebron,
it's the curiosity of you know, what do you want
to do? Do you want to go back to to Cleveland? Great,
you want to go to the Clippers? Cool? You want
to you want to find another place? But trying to
get the matchup of trades again for a fifty two
million dollar deal, that's a lot of assets that have
(30:35):
to come back the other way. That change the rotations
and the bench and everything else. And Lebron's still a
great player. But are you doing that fifty two million
dollars worth or whatever the percentage, whatever that dollar amount is.
When we do the percentages in the NBA right that
it becomes this chaotic thing. I like the cut of
your jim. I think it's more just a guy. Hey,
(30:57):
it's been about ten days since anybody talked about me,
So I need to chirp up before football really starts,
because then we got a couple of weeks where nobody's
gonna give a damn So here, listen to me, Micah,
you go lay down on the table, and I'm gonna
have this floated out about the Warriors again because one
of the assets was but Kaminga, who they say is
(31:18):
not signing his deal because he's fearful. That is, before
the inks even drying. You got a guy with the
notary public stamping it, and just that fast, he's got
a bus trick, you know, ticket coming down here to
Los Angeles as a member of the Lakers or somewhere else.
So he's been reticent to sign for that fact. So yeah,
(31:39):
Lebron getting some more run as a top storyline. But
on some level, with a lot of these teams, you
gotta realize you may just be the part with a
big name when ats end. Somebody did give me a
good scenario though. He gets traded to Golden State and
Brony based on a little bit of growth, and he
becomes a rotation guy and he ends up hitting a
(32:00):
big game winner in a playoff series because Lebron can't
close out on him or refuses to close out on
and lets me shoot, that's give it to you.
Speaker 1 (32:08):
I'll get it. It's like when you're playing pickup and
the guy has the ball, like all the way out
past the three point line. You go, I'll give it
to you. I'll give it to you. Gohad shoot it.
I'm gonna go get the reb I'll give it to you.
I'll give it to go ahead and take that shot, kid.
I'm telling you September surprise Lebron James and ready for
a surprise trade buy out? Get ready?
Speaker 3 (32:25):
Yeah, that's right. We got total recall in.
Speaker 1 (32:27):
Tell you how to find out what's trending in the
wide world of sports with someone who's been called the
Kawhi Leonard of Fox Sports Radio. Except she's been seeing
it more Clipper games than him. It's Monty.
Speaker 3 (32:40):
Rude.
Speaker 7 (32:41):
Maybe accurate, but definitely rude. Also, let me tell.
Speaker 1 (32:46):
You can't be rude.
Speaker 8 (32:47):
If it's accurate, Jimby, it can't be absolutely Also Harman, No, no,
we do not want Lebron James. We are already the unks.
We can't be super unks like we got enough. We
gotta none of the unks.
Speaker 7 (33:00):
We're good. We don't want Lebron Tom to stay away,
stay away.
Speaker 3 (33:04):
All right.
Speaker 7 (33:04):

Speaker 1 (34:57):
Monsie, what games do you have action on tomorrow? Because
I know you do.
Speaker 3 (35:00):
No, I don't.
Speaker 7 (35:01):
I haven't looked.
Speaker 1 (35:04):
I still have time.
Speaker 7 (35:06):
No, I still have time.
Speaker 1 (35:07):
There's a lot, but I don't. I haven't looked at
I was like.
Speaker 7 (35:11):
No, I haven't looked, but you're right, I'm gonna look.
Speaker 1 (35:16):
Yeah. Thanks a bunch of mons. Yes by Fox Sports
Radio The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon Straight Ahead.
We finished with a flourish. What teams fan base is
absolutely in panic mode right now after what happened tonight.
Speaker 3 (35:32):
Jet that's next, Jason.
Speaker 1 (35:33):
No, we're fine. We're fine. I wish one of our
backup quarterbacks played better, but all of it, I just
wish that Justin Fields was better. In any event, everything
is fine. It's a different team. It's next, right here,
Jason and Mike Fox moun up.
