(00:55):
Big NFL Hour coming up next, we're going to talk
the best of the best, the top gun of NFL quarterbacks.
Who's the goose? Who would be good? Well, well, probably
Aaron Rodgers because he's friends with Miles Teller, who played
Goose's kids. So probably Aaron Rodgers. Yeah, but he had

(01:17):
a pretty good season all things considered. A he did
didn't win games the Jets have with the numbers looked
really good. The Jets have bigger problems than Aaron Rodgers.
Oh yeah, they have been. People don't understand that, But
Aaron Rodgers, he's eighty two. We're getting ready to go
the twentieth interview that the Jets have. They're gonna be
able to fill up their subway stamp again. They're gonna

(01:39):
be able to go get a free foot long sub
at something.

Speaker 3 (01:42):
Is this all part of an offseason Hard Knocks that
we haven't hasn't been announced?

Speaker 1 (01:46):
Like them and the Bears, the Arms race, No, no coache.
What makes sense if they say, hey, listen, we love
Hard Knocks offseason, we want like twenty five weeks of shows,
Well how about every week? Then focuses on one guy
we interview for the job that's outside. That sounds great.
Who is it this time? That's what they never heard of?

Speaker 3 (02:05):
It to the b block the discussion over what the
proper lunch order is.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
Dude, At this point, I really the Jets and the
Bears are are just making up names of people they're talking.
They don't really exist because no one's really paying attention. Oh,
who's I don't even know who that. Okay, that's great. Yeah,
I'm sure they're going.

Speaker 3 (02:19):
To but I mean it became front page news in Chicago.
They flew Mike McCarthy pry and you know, first class.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
What are they gonna do. They're gonna make him fly commercial.

Speaker 3 (02:27):
They've always made these guys on my coach. We're gonna
never paid.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
We're gonna fly it from Dallas through Nashville. Get your
connecting flight lant in Chicago, get in an uberp and
we'll see you. We'll open the door for you.

Speaker 3 (02:39):
But they've never ponied up like that, so I was like, oh,
this must mean something.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
It's like maybe they just moved slightly towards twenty twenty five. You'reline.
We'll give you a discount for him for a mid
sized car. Oh oh you need yeah, you probably need
a full sized car. Okay, that's great. He still has
to pay for his carry on luggage. You fly Spirit
through Detroit. Don't worry about him.

Speaker 4 (02:58):
Carthy's flying down the Uh what do they call that
the loop there, Mike?

Speaker 1 (03:02):
The Big Loop? Is it in Chicago? Oh? We're going
on the l baby? Come on? Hey, how come this?
What I mean really in every television shots in every
TV show and movie, people live right next to the L.
Come on, man, no, come on, there's no way the
L is that popular. Well, let's Chicago, Jets and kan

(03:24):
It's not like everybody any TV show or any everybody
in New York Coagowy, somebody lives right next to the Oh,
the L going by the apartment. It chakes the apartment,
not everybody. You could do a show or a movie
in Chicago without people living right next to the L.

Speaker 3 (03:38):
How about you go out for a walk every once
in a while instead of comparing every movie and every
TV show.

Speaker 1 (03:43):
Hey, I just saw this in the last one I watch,
Get your Ass off the Cow. Go for a walk.
That's the L. Kimball's in Chicago. Oh, let's go get it.
Come on, man, everybody lives there. There's a convenient plot
device that's like, if you're Decebo lives right outside the
elch everybody. But it's also a nice reminder that public transportation,

(04:05):
when it is effectively deployed, can get you anywhere into
the city and in the outreaching suburbs. That's what that's
what public transportation is supposed to, not supposed to take
it someplace you don't want to be Mike, just tell
him he's right. He's an authority on L's the El's.
I have seen my team take over the last forty
five year percent.

Speaker 3 (04:26):
But for next next year's, uh, celebrations of you know,
anniversaries or whatever, you're just getting a box of like
custom donuts.

Speaker 1 (04:35):
Oh what's on? Just to say I want to say
thank you for my Fendi Knicks bag that you got.
You're really excited for Christmas.

Speaker 3 (04:41):
This isn't I think you're just rubbing it in Monsey
and and Brehanna's face because they're their teams are not represented.
This isn't even the Clippers on a night where she
would be stuffing that with one hundred dollars bills based
on the beatdown that they put on Brookely.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
Wow did this? But this is a grit. This is
a great bag. This is this is I mean, I
call it my Fendy Knicks bag. You're like, oh, yeah,
it's a Fendy bag. Yeah sure. I don't know how
I look like a giant walking. I don't know how
I look carrying it. So I kind of need some
video of that because it's a kind of a small bag.

(05:17):
What's the problem. Well, no, no, just just how do I look?

Speaker 2 (05:19):
Care?

Speaker 1 (05:19):
Do I carry it a cool way? Like I want
to be one of those are you going one strap
where two straps? Come on? Man, I'm not a lunatic.
Know what I'm saying is I want to be seen.
Like when when when the guys come to the games
and you say, oh, look this guy's dressed up. I mean,
I'm still gonna wear a sweats and a T shirt
and it mets that, but like, oh, look at the accessories,
look at the jacket, look at the bag they have.

(05:40):
I want to make sure like I'm carrying it right.
So it's like, oh, it's a pretty cool. Look at it.

Speaker 3 (05:44):
You wore this really cool bag with these raty old
gray sweating pangs.

Speaker 1 (05:47):
Yeah, look at that. He's got a Fendy bag and
those paint splattered sweats and he wears all the time. Okay,
that's great. Now speaking of going from a Fendy bag
to paste splattered artist. Now, no, no, let's about the
artist phase of our lives. The uh the Cowboys were
in the Fendi bag two days ago, when hey, Dion

(06:09):
Sanders could be the cowboys next head coach Freddy Cherry
Jones is talking to Dion. Look how great things are. Hey,
that's who you fire Mike McCarthy for man, You're gonna
bring in Dion who is gonna be the voice, is
gonna be the story of the NFL. You're buying relevancy
and attention and the Cowboys brand. You're not gonna buy
wins because the Cowboys roster is terrible, but you are.

(06:29):
You are getting all kinds of attentionally you're at the
top when you're gonna bring in Deon to replace Mike
McCarthy odds favorite right now.

Speaker 3 (06:36):
But also he gave us the greatest statement non statement
that we've had in a while.

Speaker 1 (06:41):
I mean it was really good.

Speaker 3 (06:43):
I love everything in Colorado and these people show me
the money. Uh that was the subtext. Might as well
have that Cooba Gooding Junior. Uh, you know, calling it out.

Speaker 1 (06:53):
Meanwhile, two days later, right yeah, even when the Cowboys
try to do something, they wind up cowboy because now
they're going to going They're going on Friday to interview
Robert Sala for their head coaching position. Robert Sala, We'll
interview on Friday. According to sources for the Cowboys, head

(07:17):
coaching job, which is, what are you really doing? I
mean real Even when the Cowboys try to do something,
it's like, look how fast it goes off the rails
and they start cowboying. I mean, I don't understand this
philosophy the last few days where you know he's gonna
get to talk to the Jaguars, the Cowboys. He didn't
suddenly become a good coach just because the Jets were

(07:37):
worse after he left. He got fired, left after he
got fired. He got fired after week five, after they fired,
they left after he left Jets with all he was
five weeks. I mean it was a good run, guys,
thank you. He was two and three and the Jets
weren't going anywhere. Yes, the Jets were worse after, but
this doesn't suddenly make him a good head coach. He

(07:59):
was twenty two. It's not like he came off a
couple of twelve win seasons and the Jets are underachieving,
so we gotta get rid of you know, you're never
able to win. He was twenty and thirty two as
a head coach, got fired week five, and this is
who the Cowboys are saying we might replace Mike McCarthy
with what the hell are you doing if you're the Cowboys?
What the you can't You can't get out of your
own way, even when even when something is there for

(08:21):
you to say, Hey, Deon Sanders, give him a dump
truck full of money, get him to the Cowboys. This
is who you fire Mike McCarthy for, because you should
have kept Mike McCarthy. But okay, you want to move on,
you go bigger. Now you're going to a guy that
you have seen for the last couple of years, not
just me telling you, you've seen that. Being a head
coach in the NFL was too much for Robert sala.
He couldn't figure out the offensive side of the football.

(08:42):
He couldn't find a way to motivate his team. Still
from the beginning of the Robert Sala era to the end,
too many stupid penalties, They were undisciplined. This is something
that happened for the entire time he was a Jets
head coach. And suddenly now he sought after like this
is this is typical Cowboys to go, hey, you know,
here we go with Dion Sanders. Oh, but then the
baitings with something. It is Robert sal like, what what

(09:03):
are you doing? Like they're like they're doomed to to
to be just repeating the cycle of Hey, we're gonna
continue to get in our own way for the entirety
of the Jerry Jones era and and and this is
a typical move to say, so this is what you're doing. Well,
I mean you're doing really talking to him.

Speaker 3 (09:19):
I mean we just had the offensive guy and Mike McCarthy,
isn't that what you're most serious most to said?

Speaker 1 (09:24):
Go back and get a defensive guy. Oh, because you
need a defensive guy. Because yeah, because Dak Prescott you
need someone. It's a joke coming here. I mean, look,
if you want to do the bait and switch. Speaking
of bait and switch, if you wanted a bait and
switch and say, okay, hey Robert, I know we're talking
about the head coaching position, but what if you were
our DC. No, that's my old come on in.

Speaker 3 (09:45):
If nothing else, you glean what he would do with
your defense, and you're steal the blueprint.

Speaker 1 (09:49):
I would cut you have the blueprints, star, I'd cut
this guy, cut this guy. Ah, but not you Millhouse.
You're cut. You're cut, Castle and out of you stay
your cut your cut.

Speaker 3 (09:59):
He's gonna look for any public statement that's Micah Parson's
made about him, and he's gonna put him on a
T shirt and wear him into the meeting.

Speaker 1 (10:06):
Like how is how is this a plan when when
you're the Cowboys and and you go from two days
ago we're talking to Dion two now we're interviewing Roberts.

Speaker 3 (10:16):
But it's proving that you didn't have a plan because
you went through the process of the big note a
week ago. As you know what, Mike McCarthy, you can't
go talk to the Bears.

Speaker 1 (10:30):
You ja cool?

Speaker 3 (10:31):
You didn't talk to anybody else, right, you didn't have
you eliminated that window. You took the week off, you
watch some football, maybe you caught a movie or two.
Maybe you taped another segment or two for the next
Landman offering Billy Bob Thornton. I don't know, but you didn't.
You didn't do anything in the interview process. Then you're
coming down to the final thirty six hours before McCarthy's

(10:56):
contract expires, and you don't even get another.

Speaker 1 (10:58):
Sit down with him. I thought we were gonna talk again.

Speaker 3 (11:02):
No, McCarthy waited him out and files like wow, we
didn't even depending on what report you believe. And this
is where it gets fun, right, sure is did McCarthy
have a bunch of demands about years and assurances for
his assistants and everything else, or did he just say
I'm done with this, which is what we thought maybe

(11:23):
he was going to do.

Speaker 1 (11:24):
And if you really wanted him, you would have signed him.
You wouldn't have sat. I mean, Jerry Jones sat and
watched the landscape go and decided okay because I and
I thought, okay, he's doing this after week because he
knows I can upgrade from Mike McCarthy. But now we're
going back to Robert Salah. I mean, I mean, really
this is but in the end, what were you upgrading?
This is what you did. But pray if you're going

(11:44):
to Dion, well, hey, Dion's gonna pray, gonna bring some money. Yeah,
he's gonna bring attention, relevance. He might be the pied piper.
He might get a bunch of guys to go, oh,
I want to go play for coach Prime in free agency,
you never know who might say, well, Dion, if you're there,
I'm coming there.

Speaker 2 (11:58):
Right.

Speaker 1 (11:58):
That's an how you fixing their camping, that's at least
while he's not.

Speaker 3 (12:02):
You got number four that stadio, but I said, get
those four zup.

Speaker 1 (12:05):
That's the least part of that problem. That's at least
something different. Where I understand you going from, hey, we've
had this level with Mike McCarthy, maybe Dion can really
shake it up. Okay, But Sally, I mean, if you
want to say, well, the defense might be good. What
we've seen him be a glorified defensive coordinator and he
and he was okay with it. But if you're already here,

(12:26):
if you're already here too with Robert Salah and maybe
Jason Whitten whose name is being thrown out there, who's
never coached a day in his life all high school.
Jason Whitten. Okay, that never coached higher than high school.
That's like Shaq saying I've wonted every level except for
college and pro. Uh. But look, this is this is
what you're doing. This is what you decided to fire
Mike McCarthy for. Where you had Micah Parsons today say

(12:48):
he was deflated, Uh, you know about in dejected about
losing Mike. The thing is, Mike McCarthy never lost the
room in Dallas or six weeks and you saw with
Dak Prescott out, how hard did they still play? Right?
And they still won games and finish close to five
hundred Like this is battled for. They can't get out
of the Roman. If you told Jerry Jones, okay, Jerry,

(13:10):
I want you to get on a bicycle, bicycle right here,
and all you gotta do is ride this bicycle straight
for one hundred yards and he's gonna ring a bell
like in bicycle race by Queen. You just have to
you just have to break the tape at the just
to break the tape in the end. What do I do?
What do I do? I gotta make sure no, no,
just stay, feed your front on the pedal, keep reading
for the stars. Now this is a go forward.

Speaker 3 (13:30):
But this isn't one where he puts his forehead on
a baseball bat and sprints around for.

Speaker 1 (13:34):
Ten and then it has to get on the bicycle.
Ride on the bike. You get your bike shoes on,
get your bike shorts, your bike helmet, get get.

Speaker 3 (13:40):
All Jerry j big full Southern California biker, get her.

Speaker 1 (13:44):
Pick Stanley cup water bottle. But if you need to
stop after fifty yards, you got a drink. But all
you gotta do for the cowboys to wait, Stanley count
just go, just go one hundred yards and just break
the tape. Jerry Jones would get on the bicycle and
would get right off the start line and would just
start doing circles and just start doing circles going. I
don't know, I just keeps turning to the left. I
think I had a bicycle of turns of the left.
I don't know why. But he's no, just straight, no

(14:06):
out goes straight. Nope, no gonna go round in circles
till Steven comes in and tells me what to do.
I'm just gonna keep going. So that's Jerry Jones. See
I'm Pat Scherry. Now boys, Steven's you know, actually at
the pedals.

Speaker 3 (14:17):
Jerry's on his back like Homer and Krusty when they
got to impress the mobsters and have to do the loop.

Speaker 1 (14:23):
Steve Steven's trying to just push Jerry like you teach
a kid to ride a bike. Now go now, go
right up, still in circles, going in circles. Can't start,
just can't get over, can't get over. Watch that watch
that vacation movie with Big Ben Parliament, Big ben Parliament.
Can't get over, can't get over, can't still going to
that's Jerry Jones, baby, now here we go, Deon Sanders,
just get cross the finish line. Nope, going in circles.

(14:45):
Solid Kid's gonna come in and coach a team. This
is what the cat. I like that, you glorified defensive coordinary?
He actually did? Did that reasonably well? Jacksonville? Well again
another because Jerry Jones would be the real defensive coordin.
Robert Sala would be the glorified DC in Dallas because
we all know who would be the d uh. Let's

(15:07):
put in waters and walls, clink scale. Let's get those
guys in.

Speaker 3 (15:11):
There, all right, very good, Still waiting for the day
where we've got a shot of Jerry Jones in the
owner's box and they've literally given him a joystick like
he's controlling things.

Speaker 1 (15:20):
Jerry Stephen tells me the guys are making a move.
Turbo Turbo Turbo. Why is a guy so slow? I
keep hitting a turbo, but I adds something's wrong with
my joystick. I don't know what I want on Twitter?
And how about a fresco mic and swolling down the
Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike car something's
wrong with his What coming up next? We're gonna talk
quarterback excellence and give you a list and you'll be

(15:44):

Speaker 2 (16:48):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (17:05):
A Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon.
I just really like, I thought this was fun. We'll
get excellence coming up in a second. But Jimmy Spencer,
who's come on the show all the time, big time
NBA insider, now works for Lebron uninterrupted. Uh. He put

(17:27):
this question out on social media last night. I thought
it was really interesting. Of all the teams left in
the playoffs, if you could take any player from that
team's history and insert them in their prime, what player
gets that team over the top into the Super Bowl?
Like you take anybody from any team, any any Baltimore

(17:48):
Raven any time. You could take Ray Lewis in his
prime and put him on the team. You could take
Barry Sanders in his prime and put him on the
on the Lions. Who gets a team from where they
are to the Super Bow. I enjoy this. This is good.
So I threw out and I canna see Scott Norwood. People.
It's gonna get me right there, Jim Kelly, uh, because

(18:09):
I thought of this, and I said, you know, I
could add Barry Sanders to the Lions, but I don't think.
But I don't so much. But I don't think the
drop off from Barry Sanders and his prime to Jamiir
Gibbs is all that great. Like it's well because you
also get Montgomery like tandem. So what I said was,
where can I take somebody who where I can get

(18:30):
the biggest adjustment in a position that would get to
the super Bowl. And here's where I came up with.
You add Eric Dickerson in his prime to the Rams.
Karen Williams is terrific, but you add ed in his
prime to the Rams, and that gets the Rams to
bring prime time Jackie Slayer with him to My offensive
line is coming. Vince Ferragamo's the quarterback, but through Eric

(18:54):
because the upgrade from look and Karen Williams is a
good player, but you're talking about you know, hey, a
guy that his prime, the all time leading rusher in
the NFL. You go from that to the smooth power
and and and everything else that Eric Dickerson brought to
the to the game. Yeah, you put e ed on
the Rams. They're going to the super Bowl. Oh, Tyreek
Hill back to back to the Chiefs, Tyreek Hill back there.

(19:18):
Just kidding that could still happen. Never that could actually
that could actually happen. It could actually happen. No, that's
actually a good one. I like that. Uh see the Texans. Yeah,
if they had a David Carr Frostburg, if the Chargers
were still in it, and they added somebody, who would
you pick? Well, I know who it isn't Okay, who
isn't it, Katie is here's Harmon who couldn't even let

(19:42):
you give that. He just keeps jumping in with say
the answer. He put LT back there. They're going to
the super Bowl man LT in his prime there, Yeah,
that'd be something. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (19:53):
Uh so I was really hoping he was going for
Tom Winson or something, which is why I went for
the punchline.

Speaker 1 (19:58):
Katie. But you to let him give the punchline. You
can't jump into other people's punch. He was gonna say
something serious. He might not have been joking that really
really really, he's not really like he was gonna break
an eleven year streak. I don't know. Welcome to the show.
To night might be the night Frosberton said something seriously

(20:20):
that's not just in our ears. I say things that
are serious all the time. What are you talking?

Speaker 2 (20:24):
You do?

Speaker 1 (20:25):
You do? You just said the Jets suck all the time?

Speaker 5 (20:27):
You do?

Speaker 1 (20:27):
That is very sick. It's extremely serious. Uh so, yeah,
so you know, and I you know when I when
I hit the raves, Yeah, you know, ray Lewis certainly
the defense could could use him. But like, so, the
thing is that the skill positions like a quarterback and
and and for for most of the teams are they're
as good as you're gonna get. So you're talking about
adding someone at a non quarterback position, right, because think

(20:49):
about it, all these guys like you know, you're not
You're not replacing Josh Allen, You're not replacing Lamar Jackson,
replacing Patrick Mahlmes, you're not replacing Matthew Stafford. You're replacing
these guys. Do I bring back the Minister Philly defense.
But Reggie White and that, But that does that get
you to the I don't know, because they've got a
good secondary, might need a little more push up front. Okay,

(21:11):
So just an interesting thing that I that I saw.

Speaker 3 (21:12):
So attack the Uh, you know what, as everybody tells me,
joble Matthew Stafford, Sorry, Mike.

Speaker 4 (21:18):
The only thing is it doesn't work for every team, Like,
who do you have nobody?

Speaker 1 (21:22):
It's a team still alive in the playoffs, you jerk,
it's a team still alive now in general? No, this
is the team still why you're doing this? Let's you
have nobody? What do you mean you have nobody? Okay, great,
I guess that's not gonna work now, speaking of excellence
right all the time, excellence your eyes white, you have nobody?

(21:47):
We bring Curtis Martin back. You see how far we go? Well,
you gotta give him his handbag. When you talk about
some of the guys left in the playoffs this year,
the quarterbacks right and and where we're at, and certainly
they get all the discussion now and seven of the
eight quarterbacks are all mobile quarterbacks. And Matthew Stafford is
incredibly clutch. He's been great throughout his career, it's time

(22:09):
to add somebody to a really short list in the NFL.
There were coming into this season. Middle of this season,
there were four great quarterbacks in the NFL, and not
fantasy great, but great quarterbacks. And you define great quarterbacks
as someone who makes everybody around you better, makes everybody

(22:30):
around them them better, and wins games by themselves on
a fairly routine basis, Right that you see that. So
when you think about that, there are four elite superstar
quarterbacks in the NFL.

Speaker 3 (22:45):
So these are the candidates for the Jason Smith Award.

Speaker 1 (22:48):
And these any achievement in the field of excellence. There
are four of these guys. Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Patrick
Mahomes and Joe Burrow. These are the players. It's inarguable.
Do they win games by themselves fairly often? Yes? Do
they make everybody around them better? Absolutely? We saw that

(23:09):
all on display from these guys this year and in
years past. The only thing with Burrow is, you know,
you gotta hope he's healthy. But when he's healthy, that's
how good he is. Right. So, when you're thinking about
those big qualifications of winning game, because there's a lot
of good quarterbacks infl We had this conversation last night
about Jordan Love and Justin Herbert. Hey, these guys are good,
but just because they're getting paid fifty million a year

(23:30):
doesn't mean they're great. They're getting paid that money because
these teams found a quarterback that's good, and the odds
of finding one are very difficult. So when you have
somebody who's good, you want to keep them because you know, yes,
you could win with Justin Herbert, you could win with
Jordan Love. But are they these four guys, No, they're not.
But now you got to add somebody to that list

(23:52):
wins games by himself and makes everybody around him better.
And he's only been in the league for this year.
But you have to add a Daniels to that list,
because here's Washington, one of the final eight teams. When
it was it was a rebuilding year and you thought
Jaden Daniels was, Hey, maybe he's gonna be good. And
he has come in and not only has he been

(24:12):
a superstar, he's been a superstar in Fantasy absolutely, but
he has been someone who does exactly what I said.
Has he been winning games by himself one hundred percent?
Does he make everybody around him better one hundred percent.
You've heard all the accolades about him, how calm he is,
how he's he plays like an eight year veteran. I mean,
all you had to do was look at the play
that clinched the game winning field goal attempt last week,

(24:33):
where hey, it's a big third and two on the
quarterback draw. He's dead to rights in the backfield. Right,
he's dead to rights to the backfield when the lineman
shoots the gap and it's a very calm this is
not stop. I'm gonna spin around and try. This is
just I can outrun you stiff arm four yards for
the first down field goal. Right, didn't even watch the
field goal. It's like, yeah, we want like, yes, he

(24:53):
carries himself like he's been in the league for a
long time, and that's awesome. But you know what, Josh
Allen kind of does too, and Mr Jackson kind of
does too. So it's really so it's great to see
that and see that presence in a rookie, but it's
really about what he does on the field, and he's
come in as the biggest superstar quarterback in years with
what he's been able to do this first year. I

(25:14):
don't think he gets nearly enough attention, And yet did
a lot of people maybe spend spend time and and
and pay attention to him really in detail for the
first time last week? Yeah, National Game, here's Jayden and Daniels.
Because he had a couple of games this year where
he struggle. I'm not saying he didn't, but all quarterbacks
have bad games. Josh Allen has bad games where he's saying,
what the hell is going on with him? How do

(25:34):
you throw for one to seventy nine and two picks?
In this game? It's the Jets. But Jayden Daniels has
proven in a very short amount of time that he
is that guy and he is that special. So that
list of truly great quarterbacks in the NFL has gone
from four to five.

Speaker 3 (25:49):
Yeah, it's the curiosity for him, you know, the sustainability
and what that team looks like next year, obviously on
a great run, and for the purposes of upsetting the
Apple card. I hope there's an upset because then we
get absolute chaos and then those guys have to pay
off that NBA bet, which would be fun too. But
you get to twelve wins, right, I think they're over
under for the year was seven and a half or

(26:11):
six and a half.

Speaker 1 (26:12):
Either way, they surpassed that pretty easily.

Speaker 3 (26:16):
Didn't think the Cowboys were going to be good, didn't
think they'd be the train wreck they were, and even
with a late surge, they still only got to seven wins.
And then the Giants, while again nobody thought they'd be good,
that level of train wreck, I don't.

Speaker 1 (26:33):
Think you see it coming.

Speaker 3 (26:34):
So you take advantage of what you can do there,
sustainability on winning in the last possession, because that's the
thing they've gotten their attention, and certainly going back to
that win over the Bears, Daniels got his run. He
was playing with some rib injuries that slowed him a
bit because both as a runner and as a passer
that that created a little bit of chaos. No, I

(26:55):
think he's I think he's gotten his run. But remember
on our business and Jedi or what happens, we focus
on the negative. The Jets, the Bears, the Cowboys, big markets,
big problems, and every one of those teams gave us
an endless run of sound bites and endless storylines of

(27:17):
how chaotic they were. Meanwhile, for the Commanders, it was Wow,
dan Quinn, wasn't that the guy that his defense gave.

Speaker 1 (27:24):
Up the perfect quarterback right made it look like a James.

Speaker 3 (27:28):
But also Cliff Kingsbury wasn't going to be sustainable because
we've seen a lot of great Cliff Kingsbury football, both
at the collegiate level and as a caller and as
a head coach in the.

Speaker 1 (27:40):
National Football League.

Speaker 3 (27:41):
Wondering if he was going to turn into a pumpkin
again and suddenly that offense was going to be bogged down. Well, Daniels,
with his ability to run for nine hundred yards kept
that from happening. Do I fear that he's going to
be broken into it?

Speaker 1 (27:54):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (27:55):
I do.

Speaker 1 (27:56):
But in the interim, yeah, I put him on that
laundry list.

Speaker 3 (28:00):
Those four guys still stand the top, but he's crawling, George,
where we can start at least building them the foundation
for your excitement there. Golf gets some also rand votes
because he's been really good.

Speaker 1 (28:12):
Yeah, gotta have golf now. You know, here's the thing
of golf. Golf, Afford Golf is better than I thought
he was going. I'll tell you this. I was never
a big Jared Golf fan. Uh, he was too up
and down. You know, he needed the trade to the Lions.
He's got a lot of playmakers. He's got a lot
of guys that make plays in the open field. He's
got a lot of times when I'm on Ross Saint
Brown is wide open. He's got an offensive coordinator that

(28:34):
out schemes everybody. But we know he's good. But how
many games can you say the Lions won this game
strictly because of Jared Goff. There's not as many, because hey, look,
Goff had a great game, and also you had I'm
on Ross Saint Brown, you had Jamir Gibbs, you had this,
you had that. It's it's a go, this is it.

(28:56):
This is a great team. And Goff is great as
ahead of the Snake, and he's and become a really
good quarterback. But the Lions have a lot more going
for them. There's not a lot of times where I
said Jared Goff's got to win this game by himself.
But there's times I said that for Burrow and Daniels
and Mahomes and Allen and Lamar and and and and
that's why if that list is fine, I don't know
that we've really had to say that for Lamar this year.

(29:18):
But he's always been that guy, right, you know, he's
always been that bad. Now, no wide receiver. Still talking
about twenty he had say Flowers is a thousand yards,
but he being black la Mark Andrews was but what
we got. But when guys are receiving, when guys are out,
he doesn't matter. Right, how many people are Derrick Henry
running over. I'm spending spending a million dollars on Isaiah
likely after week one and in fantasy, Oh, he doesn't

(29:39):
get your pass like eight more weeks, whether he has
receivers or not, whether he's got receivers or not. Lamar
Jackson's been great. It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter. No
blocking is okay. That'll be on the next show we have.
We're gonna talk about blocking and.

Speaker 3 (29:51):
Tight ends and wide receivers who are willing to block. No,
I mean number one, Brandon Marsh We're.

Speaker 1 (29:55):
Gonna talk about blocking and blocking a stage when you're
shooting a television show or oh, where I'm facing the
camera like that. We're doing blocking right now, exit out
about a Fresco exit Swallen Dome. That short list of
great quarterbacks add Jason Stafford Stroud that short list of
great update anchors, you have to add Monte Blago. She's

(30:19):
got what's trending right now in the wide world of sports.
Oh thank you guys. Hello, I mean my.

Speaker 5 (30:25):
Clippers just kicked ass.

Speaker 1 (30:27):
Yeah, but you took me. You had the Clippers tonight
and you gave sixty to the nets and you lost,
don't you dare? I did not. He lost by one.
You lost by one, John stop.

Speaker 5 (30:37):
They crushed the nets at into it Dome. One twenty
six to sixty seven was the finals.

Speaker 1 (30:42):
By the way, that's a real score. She's she's not
making it up because she's a Clipper fan like I
do it. The Knicks they won one seventy four to
thirty two.

Speaker 4 (30:51):
No.

Speaker 1 (30:51):
One twenty six sixty seven was the real score.

Speaker 5 (30:54):
Thank you for clarifying that it is true. I am
not exaggerating, that's right. James Harden led the way twenty
one points, six rebounds, eleven assists. Kawhi Leonard dropped twenty
three points in the win as well. Steph Curry put
on his own show in Minnesota thirty one points, eight assists,
including seven three pointers, and the Warriors edged the.

Speaker 1 (31:12):
Timberwolves one, sixteen to one. Fifteen.

Speaker 5 (31:14):
The Lakers came back to beat the Heat one seventeen
to one oh eight, snapping their three game losing streak.
The Knicks defeated the seventy six ers one twenty five
to one nineteen in overtime behind Jalen Brunson's thirty eight points.
The Raptors took down the Celtics one ten to ninety seven,
a perfectly healthy Celtics team.

Speaker 1 (31:33):
The Rockets cris passed the Nuggets. You gotta mention that too,
and that's we're on the second night of a back
to back. They expended a lot of energy to beat Portland.
That's they sure did. It took it took a lot
out of them.

Speaker 5 (31:46):
Good for the Clippers, but the Rockets Cruz passed the
Nuggets one twenty eight to one o eight. Nikola Jokic
injured his elbow during warmups warm ups and was scratched
from the game.

Speaker 1 (31:55):
In college hoops, one upset the last game.

Speaker 5 (31:57):
Of the night, UNLV top number twenty two util cost
State sixty five to sixty two. Earlier, Number two Iowa
State outscored number nine Kansas seventy four to fifty seven.
At number six, sennes CE beat number twenty three, Georgia
seventy four to fifty six. In soccer news, ESPN reports
that Brazil star neymar Is in talks with Chicago Fire
FC and two other clubs about a move to Major

(32:20):
League Soccer Women's basketball. In college women's basketball, teams are
going to be paid for playing in games in the
NCAA Tournament each March, just like the men have for years,
under a plan approved Wednesday at the NCAA Convention and
two games in the NHL, the Sabers outscored the Hurricanes
four to two, while the Oilers top the wild five
to three.

Speaker 4 (32:41):
Back to you guys, Thank.

Speaker 1 (32:42):
You Monty, congratulations on your big Clippers win. Yes, very exciting.
Even better, I will go on my fridge make you
very much.

Speaker 4 (32:51):
Hey.

Speaker 1 (32:52):
Every day the goal was to go on and oh exactly,
thank you. Doesn't it seem like the era of where
the Brooklyn Nets were going to take over the NBA
was like thirty years ago. Yeah, it seems so long.
Oh KD and Hardens. That feels like it was like
in the nineties. You forget that. Oh yeah, KG, sure, yeah,

(33:14):
I just thinking everybody they were gonna take over, they
were gonna be you know, the Knicks are gonna be
New York's team, but the Nets are more national. There's
more attention there because Kevin Durant. Oh, they're gonna be great.
And now the Brooklyn Nets are back to Oh my goodness,
people don't even go to the games. It's it's it's
absolutely it feels like it was what long ago.

Speaker 3 (33:32):
Even though they only put up what was it, sixty
seven points tonight, sixty seven, they all got a row.

Speaker 1 (33:37):
They did, they did. They scored forty six points in
the last three quarters. Forty six points in the last
three quarters. That was That was almost appoint a minuted
offense in the NBA tonight. Congratulations on a job.

Speaker 4 (33:49):
I think that's as many points as the Spurs put
on the Lakers the other night.

Speaker 1 (33:54):
They scored forty six points in the last thirty six minutes. That'sable.
Nats yo, oh, that's like one and a half points
of me. Because I could do math. You could do math.

Speaker 3 (34:07):
Let's see who is the high scorer, uh, Jalen Wilson
with sixteen.

Speaker 1 (34:11):
Jan Van Bredakoff I think had uh led the team sugar.
Ray Richardson led the Nets in scoring tonight. Roy Williams
led the Nets in scoring tonight, and I'm just throwing
these all. Thats just throw that's in the late seventies. Sure, yeah, Sure.
Edgar Jones had uh had eighteen for the Nets tonight,
Michael Corn had twelve and game Nets tonight. Now we're

(34:33):
going deep die.

Speaker 4 (34:34):
They handed out Biggie Small's a single hypnotized to every
fan who left that game.

Speaker 1 (34:41):
Yes, you are watching a great team. You are watching. No,
I'm watching the Nets. No, you're watching a great team.
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carman Live the Tirack
dot Com Too is coming up next. Another star quarterback
is headed to the NFL. Is he really gonna be good?
We'll tell you the quarterbacks your team wants to draft.
Coming up next, Jason and Mike.

Speaker 2 (35:01):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific, Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (35:12):
The Jason Smith Show with My best friend Mike Harmon. Yeah,
Live from the Tireck dot Com Studios where now it
looks like the quarterback class of twenty twenty four has
been settled, and we know everybody who's headed to the
NFL Draft. Texas quarterback Quinn Yours today officially declaring for
the draft, not going back to school to have to

(35:34):
battle it out with arch Manning to be the quarterback
next year. Back to school, not transferring somewhere where you
can get four or five million more dollars in nil money.
He is headed to the NFL.

Speaker 3 (35:44):
Decided that this draft class must be shallow enough to
his liking.

Speaker 1 (35:49):
Huh, thanks, But here's the thing. Now that we know
everybody who's going to basically go in and hit the draft,
and there could be some surprises, but we pretty much
know it's it's pretty much said. It's a very disappointing group.
This is not a year to have the one of
the top picks in the NFL draft to get a quarterback.
This is the year too, Hey, draft your Russell Wilson

(36:10):
in the second or third round, right, get a guy
that has faults, because look all all the quarterbacks coming
in that faulse a lot of questions, right, Yeah, Not
only do you have the lack of a high first
round grade on cam Ward and Shador Sanders, who are
still going to go up high because in a league
where everybody needs quarterbacks, these guys are grated the best
they're gonna get taken high. You have a bunch of

(36:30):
other star college quarterbacks who are going that have questions.
Jalen Milroe lost a lot of stock, especially that last
game against Michigan. Quinn Ewers lost some stock. Boy. Yes,
you want to think he has the arm, but he
just quite didn't push through what you thought you had.
Alller come back to school, and he really needs to
come back to school. So there's a lot of guys

(36:51):
out there that you're looking for. Who's that diamond in
the rough that I get either in the second round
or third round, and I'd bring them along and they
surprise me and suddenly, hey, guess we have found our
franchise quarterback. This is the year to have that, to
have that situation to go second or third round and
draft one of these guys.

Speaker 3 (37:07):
And it's going towards that Rock Purty model to a degree,
right of Hey, here's a guy that had a lot
of college experience. And then you go from there figuring
you've got at least enough of a base, he's seen
enough defenses to where that transition is in a shock
to the system, you know, and Anthony Richardson.

Speaker 1 (37:24):
Or somebody like it. You played all of eight minutes
in college. No, I'm a big believer in the Bill
Parcells philosophy of I want somebody who started thirty games
in college, right, I want somebody coming because that's someone
who's ready for the position. But the two guys I want,
if I'll tell you who are the two guys to
take a chance on him the second and third round
that I hey, these are the guys bring in for
your quarterback room. And boy, maybe you got something. Kyle

(37:46):
McCord and Jackson Dart. Sure these are the guys, right,
and you can think, oh, Syracuse got yeah. Kyle McCord
led the nation in passing this year. He finished with
a flourish He threw for eight hundred yards in his
last two games. The upset of mind Miami the bowl
game against Washington State. Kyle McCord is terrific. He sees
the field great, He anticipates where to go with the ball.

(38:07):
He's got a strong arm, the belief that I can
go somewhere with the football. I can get it in there.
Does he need to cut down on his turnovers? Yeah,
because I'll point the pit game where he threw three
pick sixes if he played the defense in college football,
fantasy boy had a big night, but there's still the
talent is there. And for everybody else who finished on
a downturn, he finished great. Same thing with Jackson dart right.

(38:28):
Jackson dart is a big dual threat quarterback. He can
actually run more than he actually ran at ole Miss,
but he's another one top three in passing thirty five touchdowns.
He finished with a flourish under Lane Kiffin, who's a
big quarterback guy, big time recruit to USC then went
to Ole Miss. These are guys that played a lot
of football at a really high level usc ole Miss,

(38:51):
Ohio State, Syracuse. Ten win season for Syracuse, Big Bowl
year for ole Miss. These are the guys I take
my chances because I've seen them play really really well
against good competition. Not that they don't need a little
bit of season, of course they do. But if I'm
going in, say, do I really want Jalen Millrow boy,
I thought Jaalen Rile is gonna want to be in

(39:12):
the next Lamar Jackson. Now I'm like, Wow, he's so
incredibly inaccurate. I don't get it. Quinn, you wers I
thought he might be the next Justin Herbert. Now, boy,
I don't know if he's dynamic enough. There's so many
questions about these guys, but these are the players that
I say, I really have the least questions about them.
So if I'm taking a chance with a quarterback, this
is my year. I want to pick in the second
or third round. Kyle mccorr Jackson dark talk about Milroe

(39:34):
and Dylan Gabriel.

Speaker 3 (39:35):
Add him to that list of guys in that next
tier where you're trying to parse out what they are,
and each of them, as you laid out is there's
all questions.

Speaker 1 (39:44):
It's just a matter of fit, patience.

Speaker 3 (39:47):
Stability of a franchise that you're gonna bring a guy
in right, because we've seen how many guys get their shot.
It's like, all right, he's gonna be our guy. And
the coach is already on unstable ground and gets bound
and that quarterback's never seen again. So some of that
comes into play as well. I like Dart a lot.
Eclipsed a lot of what Eli had done at Old

(40:09):
Miss and put up some ridiculous numbers. Rourke from Indiana
is interesting because he's got the prototypical body of the
old school kind of quarterback. Yeah, and has the arm
strength to do it. And again this becomes day three
fodder of all right right system where you've got a
team that has a couple of wideouts or can add
another one to where he can go make plays. You

(40:29):
saw what they were able to do. They were mostly
front running and indiana. But you know what, they all
count just the same and he only threw five picks
over the course of the season.

Speaker 1 (40:38):
He stepped in a lot of leadership too as well.
This is a team that you know, not only that
he manages the game really well. Is he going to
be a super could he be a really good game manager?

Speaker 3 (40:47):
That was also a team that didn't exactly have a
lot of time together either. Everybody showed up on campus.
Hey we're gonna play in about six weeks.

Speaker 1 (40:54):
Let's go. Well you transfer. Where'd you come from? Good?
Good god, God? Play go play, go play. Oh you
went to a pretty good school. That's fantastic. Uh so
again this is that you wait, you see the quarterbacks
take in rounds two, three, four, Those are the guys
to go get Jason. They all stink stop with that.
They're listen Jim stop arch manning time, wait till you Well,

(41:15):
that's Kye. That's a different conversation. He's the faster college
football he runs. He runs a three four forty arch
menting faster by the day, exit out by a Fresca
exit swollen dome. The Jason Smith Show with my best
