(00:54):
First of all, part of positivity. Here on Tuesday, I
have to give credit to someone I have not given
credit to it. I I don't know, years, absolute years.

Speaker 3 (01:05):
I mean Frostburg's. You guys have been battling for years.
Is this where you're gonna have?

Speaker 1 (01:10):
I always get what do you mean? I don't know?
Thank you, Thank you for recommending Lad McCaughey to me.
In fantasy this year. Thank you so much. That has
been a huge I don't remember that conversation. Prank call
prank uh uh. The Milwaukee Bucks are your E Cup champions?

(01:34):
Oh yeah, winning a game that was nationally televised tonight.
That's it was one of them. Yeah it was, and
there weren't that many, like we're taking time out for
this game. The Bucks win and Doc Rivers I got
to give them credit because it was just a month ago,
not even a month ago, where it was Doc Rivers

(01:56):
isn't gonna make it to Christmas as the head coach
of the Bucks. They were terrible. They'd started out three
and ten three and they were awful, and there were
no answers. We didn't know if Damon Lillard was still
the same, and you're not signing up for this. All
the team has done is backslide since Doc Rivers took over,
But they figured it out. Damian Little has been playing

(02:17):
much better, Joannis has been playing with more purpose, and
the Bucks ripped off a bunch of wins. I know
that the big pr pushed by the NBA is going
to say, hey, look you had the E Cup saved
the Bucks season.

Speaker 4 (02:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
No, Okay, let's not say that, but they did get hot.

Speaker 5 (02:33):
They won.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
You look, it's too good a team to not win.
And that was the whole reason why Doc wasn't gonna
make it till Christmas. Look he still talking about the
best overall most talented player in the NBA and Giannis,
and how are they not better than they are? I
get that, maybe you're not as good as the Celtics.
I get that, maybe you're you're kind of on par
with the teams that are, you know, the three four
teams in the conference, but you should be better. And

(02:54):
they have figured it out, and now Doc Rivers is
going to keep his job. I didn't think they could
do it. I thought it was a lost cause and
Milwaukee was just gonna it would be another time of hey,
we've tried it with this leadership. It's not working. We
need something else to happen. But now Doc's going to
keep his job and the Milwaukee Bucks have righted their ship,
and they're sitting here now at a great time to
sit back and take stock of your team and say, hey,

(03:16):
all right, we've made it out. We made it out
of that really dark period to start the season. Look
at what we've done here, We've won the e Cup,
which can be a nice little springboard for us, and
we're ready to now really make some noise in the
season because we've we've taken our team apart, we put
it back together, and now we really feel confidence. Because
that's really a lot of what it is is that, Look,

(03:37):
the Bucks really have to had to figure out how
do we play together, how does Jannis and Damian Lillard
play together? And they both can be the best versions
of themselves. We didn't know if Damian Lillard was still
going to be the same guy he struggled last year.
He didn't look as fast, he didn't look as as
powerful as he used to be, as quick and decisive.
Now we're getting some of the old Damian Lillard back again.

(03:57):
But this is about Doc Rivers, and I give Doc
credit cause here are the Bucks now three games all
four games over five hundred and to the hottest team
in the NBA, and now Doc's gonna keep his job.

Speaker 3 (04:06):
Yeah, whatever the magic was, you know, since we are
in the holiday holiday, holiday season, trying to figure out
you know, whether it was a little bit of the
terse attitude and some of the commentary that he got
from Jannis at the podium, Damian Lillard and and you know,
come and clean with where he's at physically, mentally, all
of that stuff, and maybe that was enough to clear

(04:28):
some of the blockages there. The fact that the East
sucks kind of helps outside of the top teams because
even with their horrible start, they're in the five seed
right now, three games above five hundred.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
Right.

Speaker 3 (04:41):
Obviously this was this game doesn't count in the standings,
but it does for their pockets and you know, feeling good,
as you say, momentum and carrying it forward through the season.
I think they still have some questions about the rotation.
And this is where my positivity stopped. I'm going to
put a pin in it and wonder aloud about the
half ass effort that we saw in this game. Like

(05:04):
it was close in the first half, and that was
because both teams were shooting miserably, right, fifty one fifty
at the halftime, and for the game, the Bucks shoot
forty what is it, forty two percent from three point
range seventeen to forty. Great, they shot forty two percent
flat for the game, forty two point six from three

(05:26):
forty for the game. Good job, good effort. How about
this for your thunder thirty three percent and a lot
of laughs at the podium after the game. The optics
are not good in terms of want to try whatever else.
At some point it's like, ah, we're not hitting our
shots today. I guess we're not getting the half million. Yeah,
what are you gonna do? It was only another half million,

(05:49):
so it doesn't matter. But like so the optics and
certainly the response coming out of this, this game uh itself,
you know, still has everybody wringing their hands the day
that they announced changes to the All Star Game or
whatever else. But back to your appreciation moment. Doc Rivers
is certainly a guy under fire. Look last week we
had some quotes from him sat talking about you know,

(06:10):
he was getting advice from his doctors about his throat
and stuff. Yeah, which is I mean serious stuff. You
and I certainly you know, whenever you have a little
bit of a head cold or it gets into your
neck and chest, you get I get nervous. I had
a little family history with some more serious things there.
But even just in the moment, I'm like, wow, I
can't scream, I can't yell, I can't curse Smith out

(06:33):
This is gonna be bad for Doc Rivers. Part of
his identity is a large part of it for people
is the impressions is that folks do of his voice
and his ability to yell for a forty eight minute affair.
If that's compromised in any such way, at least you
have the undefeated Darvin ham As ready.

Speaker 1 (06:53):
Yeah, look, I give him credit. And now you know,
from a coach to a team, I gotta give credit
to the Yankees pull off a big trade today they
get Cody Bellinger from the Cubs, and I have to say,
I give the Yankees credit. Now there's a butt coming.
But well, I mean, but if I'm gonna talk about

(07:15):
the Yankees, I gotta wear my Mets hat in a
force field so it doesn't infect your brain. I give
the Yankees credit because they pivoted away losing Juan Soto,
and in the last five days they have brought in
an ace, a closer, and now a heavy hitting outfielder.
And so that's a great pivot. And they've spent a
fraction of the money that the Mets spent on jan Sodo.

(07:37):
So I give the the Yankees have made their team
better as much as they can you know you lost Sodo.
The protection for judge might still don't have the protection
for judge in the batting order or the protect However,
you're gonna move, move things around. But you made your
team better, right, You got an ace, you got a closer,
you got an outfielder. But but and this is where

(07:57):
we even get to Cody Bellinger. Don't forget that send there.
It might show up too. This is yeah, Santander who
liked the Yankee or started following the Yankees on Instagram.
So maybe he's headed out there too. Boy, if they
get Santanda and Bellinger, think of all the strikeouts of
the Yankee stadium.

Speaker 3 (08:10):
Now massive strikeouts. But you know you talk about if
you want to be in that wind tunnel, Yeah, you're
gonna get catch a lot of breezes and otherwise muggy
and humid New York.

Speaker 1 (08:18):
Every Yankee outcome is gonna be a walk, a strikeout,
or a home run, just like Strata Maatic in the
early days. Walk strikeout, home run, that's it, walk strikeout,
home run, lots of strikeouts, walk once in a while,
home run once in a while.

Speaker 3 (08:29):
Now I want to go play Strata matic. Can we
get a tournament together.

Speaker 1 (08:32):
Who's in? But this as as as good as it.
I give the Yankees credit, but this is that's a huge.
This is so awesome because this is so much when
two people break up, the one the one who says,
I want to go win the breakup and show that
even though this person broke up with me, I'm moving

(08:54):
ahead faster. So be uh. Cody Bellinger's wife so tricks
up with the Yankees. And now the Yankees say, oh no, no,
I want to go show you I'm living my best
life before you go get more guys for your team.
So yeah, here's two hundred million dollars, Max Freed. Let's
make a trade for Devin Williams. Let's go get Cody Bellinger.

(09:14):
I want to show you that I have moved on
and I'm living my best life. I'm a happy hour
with all my friends saying I don't know what so
and so is doing, but look at me. I got
dates move in. I've moved on. My life is awesome.
You called me two nights in a row drunk dialing
this week, crying no, that wasn't me. I've moved on.
I went out and I went out and got Devin

(09:35):
Williams and I went out and I got Max Freed
and I went out we got Baldano. I'm living my
best life and I want not only that, I want
Sono to know it too. I want so no, no, no,
that I'm living my best life. You know, he broke
up with me. That's the worst thing you just left behind,
the worst thing you're ever gonna see, mister, And I'm
gonna show you that you left it behind. And I

(09:55):
am the real prize in this relationship. This is all
the Yankees are doing right now. Awesome. We're moving on.
We gotta make sure the Mets don't keep getting all
the headline. You gotta go get all these guys, even
though there's questions about each of them.

Speaker 2 (10:06):
We're gonna go do it.

Speaker 1 (10:07):
We're gonna go give a thirty year old picture all
kinds of money for the next eight years. We're gonna
go get a closer who really just who knows where
he is mentally after the Alonzo home run, and we're
gonna go give outfielder then maybe sounds better than it is,
but boy, we're moving on.

Speaker 5 (10:21):
Man.

Speaker 1 (10:21):
We're gonna go make sure that Soto knows I'm the
biggest mistake you made.

Speaker 3 (10:26):
All right, let me address the uh the elephant in
the room.

Speaker 1 (10:29):
First.

Speaker 3 (10:30):
Were you envisioning a woman you gave a hat to
back in the day, or a would be employer? U?

Speaker 1 (10:37):
The thing is, I never, I never when when when
if someone broke up, we broke up. I never tried
to win the breakup. I never tried to Oh, I
gotta make sure I'm moving. I was like, Okay, I'll
take the time mentally to deal with a breakup and
and and make my peace with it and be and
be and be good with it and move on. And
I never have someone going look at me no no, no, no,

(10:58):
no, no no the king and yuh no.

Speaker 3 (11:02):
The only thing I sing a little bit of Newsy
on a day to day basis doing since.

Speaker 1 (11:07):
We have time for Cody Bellinger, let me I feel
like Dean Sanders, I got time for this today. The
only time I ever did that. You ready for this?
So a girl, remember one we broke up when I
was in college, and like she was like the girl
I had liked the most in my life until that point,
and we broke up, and she she wanted to break
up with me, and I'm like, okay, and I was
like devastated for a while. It took me a while.
I got back up and you know, made pieces. Okay,

(11:29):
you tumble one so like so like months later, months later,
this is like near the end of my senior year
of college. I'm at a club one night with a
bunch of my friends and I run into one of
her friends and and and they like hang out a
little bit but not much. She was, oh, my god,
it's great to see you. And she was really nice,
very nice person. And she said, how are you are you?

(11:50):
You know, are you doing? What are you doing after school?
You know, after school is over, you're still gonna, uh,
you're still gonna try to move to La or New
York or something. I said, well, and it just hit
me in the moment. I go, I'm gonna make up
a great story just to see how far it go.
So I make up. So I go, well, I'm actually
I'm gonna I'm gonna be on Santa Barbara soap opera,
Like this is back when it was Santa Barbara's. I
don't know where that came from, but I just I'm
gonna be on Santa Barbara. Really yeah, yeah, I tried

(12:12):
out and there you know, I'm gonna go out there,
and you know, in one in one scene, I deliver
food and I find one of the actors like is
has passed out or something, and then another one they
kind of come into where I work. So I don't know,
maybe there's gonna be a you know, a thing for
me there. I have no idea, you know, I have
no idea. She's like, oh my god, that's so great,
that's so cool. I'm like, yeah, yeah, so my friends
and I then the going, oh my god, you know

(12:33):
she's gonna go back and tell everybody that story. I said, yeah,
it's weird, you know, but I didn't think anything of it, right,
So then like a couple more months go by and
I actually run into her again at a different bar,
right different bar, and again she's the nicest person in
the nicest person world, and she comes up to me
and her eyes like like change. I'm like, oh my god,
she's gonna tell me something really bad, like that's here.

(12:55):
You go to the same bar, the same club. So
it wasn't crazy, right, said, Oh my god, she talked
to me. No, no, no, no, no, this is this
is her friend. Was I was not. We never there's another.
He said huh no, no, and she came up and
but children right. She goes, hey, how are you? And
I said good, how are you? You know I didn't
know it, says she just hey, oh my god, I'm
so sorry. And I said sorry about what what.

Speaker 2 (13:18):
Do you mean?

Speaker 1 (13:18):
She goes, well, the news and I'm like, what are
you talking about? And I'm going, what what? Now I'm
thinking something slips and now I'm not enjoying this anymore.
What's going on? She I read, I mean Santa Barbara
getting canceled. He got canceled? I said, oh yeah, I said, well,
you know, I kind of knew for a little bit

(13:40):
and it was gonna get that's why I'm back here.
I don't know. I don't know. Well, I hadn't left yet.
I had left. Oh well, but she didn't know that.
She didn't know. I said, yeah, it's it's it sucks.
I kind of knew that was gonna get canceled. I'm like,
oh my god, I had no idea that Santa Barbara
got cats. I said, yeah, but I kinda I kind
of knew it was coming. So now what are you
gonna do all? I don't know, but I'll see I'm
gonna be you know, I don't know. I'm gonna go

(14:00):
back to NewU. I'm gonna go to New York City
whatever whatever. Once I moved to LA. I wound up
moving to LA at some point and I was like yeah,
and I walked away and go, oh my god. I
had no indeed, And my best friend said to me,
but wow, you really think quick on your feet? You really,
because that was really that was really big coming back
with yeah, you knew about it for a while. That
was pretty sounded like to me like it was a
true story. And I said, ah, right, now, I know

(14:21):
I gotta do some kind of broadcasting for a living.
Get in there and sell, sell, sell. I'm so sorry.
Santa Barbara was cans me too. A Martinez, what a
great actor. Now he's gonna be at La Law. All
this stuff exit out about of Fresco ex strolling down
the Jason Smith Show with Mike Carbon didn't A Martinez
used to do Dodger Talk? He did, he did, and
then then he went Santa Barbara to La Law to

(14:44):
Dodger Talk. That said, that was the whole big thing
from him. Now, yeah, now I think he does he
actually does Dodger talk in Santa Barbara. I think he
doesn't think that's where No, uh, coming up next. Look,
we have a little bit more on on Cody Bellinger. Yeah,
exactly as to why the Yankee should be nervous about this. Plus,
if I'm giving credit to the Yankees, I'm giving credit
to Doc Rivers. How about I give credit to an

(15:06):
NFL at coach. I have just been pasting the last
few nights. That's next, Jason and Mike. No, it's not you, Belichick.
You're later on in the end of this episode. Oh,
that's coming up next. Jason to Mike Fox, what did
that last week?

Speaker 5 (15:18):
Jack?

Speaker 2 (15:23):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 6 (15:35):
Go Count Dooku, Jason, I need a remix that says
Young Wing's down, Young Wing's down.

Speaker 1 (15:46):
Young Lings are around so good. You know. This is
another big foible with Star Wars is that, Okay, they
bring in Count Dooku, right, and he is the He
is the villain all the way through Oh my God,
all the way through second and then the third movie. Yeah,
dead right away. Sorry spoiler. Yeah, we're done with you

(16:07):
moving on.

Speaker 3 (16:08):
We'll always have the fight between he and Yoda, the
best laugh I've ever had the movie theater in my life.

Speaker 1 (16:14):
So I threw the Senate at him, the whole senate.
I got it in my nose. Uh there you go.
That's pretty obscure, but it's funny. Uh So, a little
bit more on Cody Bellinger before you get into Dan Campbell. Uh. Yes,
getting Cody Bellinger by the Yankees is a good move. Again,
it's panic, it's I want to I want to win

(16:35):
the breakup with Wan Soto, So we're going to sign everybody.

Speaker 3 (16:38):
But here's the thing. Well, the shotgun approach may work here.
I mean, you opportunity to still go get Santan Dare,
which would then weaken a division rival.

Speaker 1 (16:49):
So victory there. Yeah, you're gonna strike out. Who's the
guy you should go? He's a guy coming off of
a huge season. Man. I mean, but with Bellinger, it's
not like Cody be Ellinger is still a great player, right,
He's five years removed from his MVP season. The Dodgers
let him go. He was a homegrown star. They wanted
to keep he had a nice bounce back season with

(17:11):
the Cubs in twenty twenty three, had a really good
season with the Cubs in twenty twenty three, and he
hit the skids a little bit in twenty twenty four
to the point where he was he was an average
He was a good average outfielder. I guess he was
a good average outfielder. The fact that the Cubs gave
him away and all they got in return was a

(17:32):
thirty year old reliever who's been in all of twenty
four games in Major League Baseball now when he has
played these beats pitched pretty well. But and you got cash, Like,
that's what you're getting for Cody Bellinger. This is like
one of those moneyball deals where Billy Bean says, yeah,
and I wanted to watch you to stock my soda
machine for three years too. All right, I want that too, buddy.
He hangs up the phone. You have the answer you want,
you hang up. Like the Cubs who know him better

(17:54):
than anybody, this should have been someone who has sought
after who Hey, we got to make a trade. Yes,
he's making money, but it's it's not unbelievable money. It's
not money. You have to worry about saying, hey, it's
a little too risk for our real, too rich for
our blood. This is someone who, oh, Cody Bellinger and
the Cubs, who know him better than anybody, were saying,
we're okay with you give us a journeyman reliever and

(18:14):
some money, and we'll give you a guy that you
think is that great. So that's a big red flag
for me that this is what the Yankees gave up
for me. No Yankee fans are gonna know we stole
Bellinger from it. We stole from it. It's a big day.
We stole We're great. They'll blank the Mets all this.
Why are the Cubs okay with giving him up? And
that's what you're getting back in return?

Speaker 3 (18:31):
Well, in Chicago, it is now customary for all teams
to decide to be dumpster fires. At the same time,
the Cubs weren't quite off. Yeah, think about it. I'm
going over all the teams.

Speaker 1 (18:43):
In my head. Yeah you're right, yeah, yes, yes, yes,
even the Sun Times. Yeah sure No.

Speaker 3 (18:48):
I got some good work out of the Northwestern basketball squad,
and certainly lacrosse and soccer do well.

Speaker 1 (18:53):
But other than that, universe, Chicago does well. It's the
most expensive school in the country, So I mean they
must be continuing to do well.

Speaker 3 (19:00):
Division III. Buddy, it's like, what is it like dollars
a year to go there? Way to go Maroons. My
brother actually went there back in the day, so when.

Speaker 1 (19:09):
It was cheap, when it was seventy grand a year, well,
and a lot of financially.

Speaker 3 (19:13):
But anyway, as we look at it, the Cubs, if
you go through the messages and look through what's being
said in Chicago, and certainly from my thirty thousand foot
view of the home city, is that you've got a
Ricketts family printing money. Right, at least on the surface,

(19:35):
everything should be good. Yet they're going small market in
terms of payroll because this is another.

Speaker 1 (19:41):
Guy that rolls off the off of.

Speaker 3 (19:44):
The payroll only twenty seven million. But you've got a
bunch of home run guys. Fine, maybe they work out,
but that's what you're banking on your roster to be,
and you're getting rid of anybody of substance history, and
certainly with the dollar amount. I'm going to show you
a list to take the other team into effect. They're

(20:04):
from Chicago. They have the White Sox, you know, socks
fest a lineup and I defy anybody that isn't a
White Sox fan to name and really be able to
recognize more than two guys.

Speaker 1 (20:16):
Well, you got Sean Burke. He was a really good
goalie for the Whalers exactly and the Devil's back in
the nineties. And there it's really good Sean Burke. There
you go.

Speaker 3 (20:25):
I had beers at a bar with Sean Burke. He
was also thesed to Calm Satan.

Speaker 1 (20:29):
So there you got your number one Sean Burke.

Speaker 3 (20:32):
But the point being that you're you're playing like a
small market, I agree with you, is that you don't
expect him to hit those heights and go back. It
was twenty nineteen when he was a beast. Twenty twenty
three was a nice season, not overwhelming. And certainly you've
got Crow Armstrong, who you like as a player going forward.
You've got a little bit of juice in your pitching staff,

(20:55):
and certainly maybe you can keep building there. But you're
not spend money, and you're the Cubs, and unlike almost
any other team, you got the Dodgers, you got the Yankees,
Red Sox, Cubs, they print money. Right, it's the best
outdoor bar in America. It is packed no matter how
bad you are. And every year that they go and

(21:17):
they're fielding a non competitive team, I just chuckle, going, Well,
they know the gig, the TV and radio and all
the revenues are gonna come flying in. There's gonna be
asses and seats to the tune of three point four
million or more every year, plus the money you're getting
for all the concerts that you now have finagled with

(21:39):
the city. So in terms of the on field product,
you really don't give a damn. And this is another example.
Yeah again, guy's been good in the twenty two games.
Right when you talk about potit three and oh two
point two something era this year, that's all find and good.
Is he moving the needle? I mean, what's his what's
his war point two? I mean, what are we doing?

Speaker 1 (22:02):
Exit out by to Fresco Exit Swollen Dome the Jason
Smizer with Mike Carmon live from the tyreck dot Com Studio.
So just think about that for a second when you think,
oh we stole Bellinger, Just one thing. Time out to
find out what's trending in the wide world of sports
from someone who traded Cody Bellinger on his fantasy team
right before his MVP season.

Speaker 4 (22:21):
It's Steve to say no, but that was a really
hot three months. Just for the record, I know he
got the MVP for the whole season. He wasn't that
good in all six months. Just for the record, and
the big hole in the swing goes to New York.
Now the Yankees have acquired the we assume outfield. They're
former Dodger Cody Bellinger. He and cash come from the Cubs.

(22:44):
NBA Cup Final was in Las Vegas tonight, Milwaukee ninety
seven to eighty one winners over Oklahoma City. Jannis Antennacumpo.
The tournament MVP recorded a triple double, including nineteen rebounds.
Chris Middleton was out due to illness. The Thunder in
the first half from three point range were one for
seventeen and only trailed by a point at the time.

(23:04):
Dominant second half for Milwaukee. No NBA games tomorrow. The

Speaker 1 (24:19):
There.

Speaker 4 (24:19):
The Falcons made news tonight in the NFL. Kirk Cousins
is no longer their starting quarterback. They're going we're rookie
first rounder Michael Pennix. The Cardinals gave safety Buddha Baker
a three year extension. Steelers linebacker TJ. Watt miss practice
with his bad ankle, and so did wide receiver George
Pickens with his hamstring injury. Chiefs wide receiver Hollywood Brown

(24:39):
practiced today and could play this weekend. Chiefs quarterback Patrick
Patrick Mahomes practice fully despite the mild ankle Spring Kansas
City plays this Saturday and then again on Christmas. The
Titans are expected to start quarterback Mason Rudolph this week
instead of Will Levis. By the way, Atlanta's game at
Washington has been flexed into Sunday Night Football on the

The Steelers would clinch the AFC North title with a win.
Sunday on Fox Philadelphia at Washington. Philly can clinch the
NFC East the Thursday night matchup as the Chargers hosting Denver,

(25:22):
Justin Herbert limited again in practice due to his bad ankle.

Speaker 1 (25:25):
Back to you, I think the Jets all were limited
in practice. The entire team was limited. They had been.

Speaker 4 (25:32):
Limited in the field already, by the way, one of
the football writers on Twitter tonight after the Falcons news says,
can we please get like a rotating Aaron Rodgers Kirk
Cousins season from the Jets next year?

Speaker 1 (25:45):
Is that possible? Hey? You know what, ask Mike Rabel.
He's gonna be the next head coach like that. The
Bears are gonna fight you for So it's gonna be
Ryan Tannehill, that's what you're saying. Yeah, yeah, he may
be the quarterback slash head coach slash wide receiver. Thanks Steve.
That's all. Now, Look, we'll get to Dan Campbell the compententes.

(26:06):
But it makes sense to do this part of the
story now because it's just since Bellinger signed with the Yankees. Okay,
it may wind up being a little awkward with Bellinger
and the Yankees because of gen Carlo Stanton. Well wait,
what happened, jo, whoa whoa whoa woa did they.

Speaker 2 (26:23):
Few didn't know?

Speaker 1 (26:25):
Almost Bellinger's wife, who he's been married in married last year.
I believe they have two kids together. They've been together
for a while, right, Cody Bellinger and his wife Chase
Carter and have a couple of kids. They have been
married them been together before she dated Cody Bellinger. She

(26:47):
dated gen Carlos Stanton for two years. And I'm seeing
this on MSN that they broke up apparently after Stanton
liked a bunch of Instagram posts from a UFC fighter
Harriannie Celeste. Oh, they broke up and then she started

(27:10):
dating Cody Bellinger. That's gonna be a little awkward, even
though five years ago. If you date someone for two years, right,
let's look at it from Stant's perspective, Right, you date
someone for two years and then you break up, right,
whatever it is, whether whoever has a wandering eye, whatever,
you break up. Okay, great, And now you, of course
you're keeping track of what your girlfriend because it's too
you know, you're dating for two years, right, and she

(27:32):
moves on, she's married, she marries Cody Bellinger. I that's great,
and now, hey, he's gonna you're gonna see him, You're
gonna see her. How awkward is this going to be
for both of them? It's it's really it's I can't
I think that they.

Speaker 3 (27:49):
Ran this past Stanton during the process, like he's hearing
the rumor.

Speaker 1 (27:53):
Now I think Brian Cashman seeing this for the first time.
Oh wow, really, ma, I did not know Crack research
staff missed this one. Like Luke Wilson when he gets
his arm chopped off an anchorman, I did not see
that coming. Oh man, Yeah, I know that.

Speaker 3 (28:05):
Certainly the interwebs are having their fun with this, I mean,
because it's really a stark contrast to the other photo
that was making the round, which was Judge Stanton and
Bellinger at a home run contest where they're standing there
and posing for a picture. It's like, yeah, they saw
this coming the whole way, and it's like, well, that's
one way to look at it. The other however, see

(28:27):
I look at it this way.

Speaker 1 (28:28):
If I'm Stanton, I'm okay with it because obviously, look,
we weren't meant to be together. She went on, got married,
they have kids. Obviously he's what she's supposed to be with.
We dated first, So that's okay, I'm alright with that.
But if I'm Bellinger and she dated this guy like
for a couple of years, and okay, this is all right,

(28:49):
this is really weird. Like I wouldn't know what to say,
I wouldn't know how to like. It'd beal all of
a sudden, I gotta work with them every day. It
would be really really hard family day when they come
to the clubhouse and Stanton doesn't have his shirt on,
Like no, but that's the thing it's gonna be.

Speaker 3 (29:02):
People are gonna be around the clubhouse. You're gonna be
around each other, family and trips there.

Speaker 1 (29:06):
Let me do she there? Can I take my sho
I'm gona take my shirt off and fan out my
back muscles. Is she there? All right? Look stop stop,
it's not stop stop.

Speaker 3 (29:21):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (29:21):
It would be weird. It would be weird for you.
That would be the weird part. For me. It would
be that would be very very stid. I mean, you're adults, yeah,
but still it's weird. Don You're adults, but you're only thirty,
you know, It's not like you know, it's not like
I'm like your dad's gonna be with the club for
one hundred and sixty two games. Oh that's true. Yeah, yeah,
he is gonna be heard a while. But it's not
like you're like fifty five and and hey, my ex

(29:41):
wife is bringing and her husband are coming to our
son's wedding, and I have to be nice for three hours. No,
this is Hey, you gotta live in the like. I
gotta give this guy high We gotta give high fives
to each other, you know, we gotta we gonna talk
to each other.

Speaker 3 (29:53):
Well, I mean, if you earned the high five, he
earned the high five, then for the day, I mean
you really, with the Langue.

Speaker 1 (29:59):
Game five, you not earned that.

Speaker 3 (30:01):
I fun for the length of time that Major League
Baseball games are going now, plus the time in the
clubhouse where you actually need to be around each other,
it's gotta be less than three hours.

Speaker 1 (30:09):
You're just doing it repetitive. And they're standing at the
left end of the dugout, and way down the right
side there is Cody Bellinger giving the air high fives
to each other from thirty feet away.

Speaker 3 (30:20):
I'm gonna ask you this, do you think Aaron Judge
wishes he'd been able to get a hold of on soda?

Speaker 5 (30:25):
Now?

Speaker 1 (30:25):
I think absolutely. Now I think there's a better question
that absolutely. You have to bat Aaron Judge between Stanton
and Bellinger, so they don't so they don't have have
you know, they don't have to congratulate each other, all
cast by each other like you. Oh, No, Judge, Judge
has next to each other, Jason right next to each other.
Stanton puts up pictures that went him and when they

(30:46):
were both dating. Locker No, Aaron Judge is the locker blocker.
He's got to be right in the middle. Aaron, I
would want you to walk up between them at all times,
so I would they don't have to walk together at all. No,
I want you to gots. It's gonna give nice wid Hey, Aaron, listen,
did you drop that ball in centerfield? Lose the World

(31:06):
Series for US? Okay, you do what we tell you. You
keep these two apart. We even both to play. We
need Bellinger's ops over eight hundred. We he'd stand in
the line up more than eight games. All right, you
dropped that ball and centerfield. You do what we tell
you to do and vote be your next because you
made that craptastic throw. You're the next guy coming to fighting.
Help with this story at oh, to forget about you,

(31:27):
Garrett Cole not covered first base. I got something special
for you. If I need this situation covered, don't worry
about it.

Speaker 3 (31:33):
There's a bunch of random ex girlfriends and wives running around.
What if they do the Major League where they where
they use the cutout of her every win?

Speaker 1 (31:43):
All right, guys, we know we gotta win. I figure
it's gonna take us thirty wins over the last couple
of months to do it. You.

Speaker 3 (31:50):
Meanwhile, Stanton's literally got thirty home runs in April.

Speaker 1 (31:55):
He's a guy pulling each piece off every every game.
But we didn't win tonight.

Speaker 2 (31:59):
Doesn't matter.

Speaker 1 (32:00):
I'm pulling a piece up and pulling a piece up stance. Hey,
the picture you want to use the cardboard cutout? You
want one of the pictures that I have? Or do
you want one of Cody as? Like, well, what do
you want? Look at me?

Speaker 3 (32:10):
That's that's awkward. So it's just a revival of the
soap opera. You were allegedly on Santa bar in Santa
Barbara East.

Speaker 1 (32:18):
That's it. It's a little Sata bar East. No, they
would call they would call it the Bronx Zoo like
that that's what they because that's what penguins. I'm close. Yeah,
I see where you're going from. No, where it go,
exit ut out of Fresca, exit swollen doll. In The

do with file at and moldy bread. I'll send you

hear that. Need to hear it once a night around
the holiday holiday holidays, holidays.

Speaker 3 (33:21):
Oh it's a good boost, no question about it. And
always a remix.

Speaker 1 (33:25):
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmen Live from the
tirec dot Com Studios. Now, tonight's been a night where Hey,
I've given credit to people that I've criticized a lot.
Look the Yankees, I gave him credit. I mean before
I criticize them.

Speaker 3 (33:35):
Uh you warrior, Doc rivers hat during that TAN and
immediately took it off, okay with it, deserted the power
for the Mets.

Speaker 1 (33:44):
The Mets hat while I'm talking about the Yankees, and
I'll take it off. And Dan Campbell has been a
guy who look, campbelling is a thing. Dan Campbell making
knee jerk decisions, decisions to go for it that are
risky on fourth down, on side kicks. This is what's
gonna end the Lions season this year at some point. Right,

(34:06):
it's gonna end exactly how you think it's going to end.
We're on a Monday night, we're talking about can you
believe that Lion's loss? When Dan Campbell decided to do
this in the fourth quarter, which was ridiculous. That being said,
I got to give him a lot of credit for
why he's a great head coach because a lot of
it goes in with what he said today. Again, this
loss has been reverberating in the NFL the last couple

(34:29):
of days. The Lion's getting thumped by the Bills, the
Bills announcing themselves as Hey, maybe we're the best team
in the NFL. Josh Allen made me the runaway winner
for MVP. Now, Dan Campbell went on ninety seven, won
the ticket in Detroit today and was really fired up
talking about how this loss is going to help spur
the Lions on for the rest of the season, and

(34:51):
he wanted to make in comparison using steak and moldy bread.

Speaker 5 (34:55):
You know what happens is, you know, you win eleven
in a row, you know, and you lose and then skyfalls.
You get us eating file A and I'm talking all
of us and everything's good, life's good, you know, and
but you forgot what it was like when you had
nothing in the age of molded bread. Sometimes you got
to get punched in the mouth and remember what it
used to be like to really appreciate where you are.

(35:16):
And we'll do that. We got a bad chase in
our mouth. We got kicked them around the other day.
We lost a few guys, and you know what, it's
exactly what we needed all right.

Speaker 1 (35:25):
Now, Before I get to why, you know, this is
why Dan Campbell is such a great coach. You know,
I've had down times in my life. I'm sure you
have had downtimes your life. I've never had the downtime
where Okay, I'm eating moldy bread. I've eaten fil a
And I certainly know when I was, you know, younger,
went when I've had trouble, you know, making ends meet. Hey,
I was excited that I could get like ten ramen

(35:45):
noodles at the supermarket for ten dollars, Like, ah, that's
that's dinner for ten days, like I got. But I've
never actually gone from file ay to moldy bread.

Speaker 3 (35:54):
Well, I've certainly had fil ay on what was once
partially moldy.

Speaker 1 (36:00):
Cut them old.

Speaker 3 (36:01):
I'm just gonna cut cut them, like the end part
of it's like anything you gotta have.

Speaker 1 (36:09):
I cut the cheese.

Speaker 3 (36:09):
It's like, you know, the last part of something in
the household, in the fridge, in the cupboard, whatever. It's like, well,
I can't eat the last one, like that one last cookie,
the one and there's always like one or two end
pieces of bread.

Speaker 1 (36:22):
They get left bine.

Speaker 3 (36:22):
Well sometimes they get pushed to the back of the
cup and it's like most of it still good, and
I don't feel like going to the star.

Speaker 1 (36:29):
So I've certainly been down that path. Okay, I've never
had the it's like a maybe I'm not going full
les is here. It's like a Middle Ages thing, like
in your punishment before we chop your head off and
you're gonna eat moldy bread at the top of a
tower for a month. No, here's some brine, And no,
I can't get that. But but his point's well taken. No,

(36:52):
and I agree with it because this is there is
such a thing as a good loss. And the Lions
had not been playing great the last few weeks. They've
been kind of easing their way into games, and they
saw Sunday they got punched in the mouth with hey,
you want to ease in the game against the Bills,
it's fourteen nothing before you look up, and they never
were able to get it back. So I get that.
But the best thing this is what Dan Campbell does,

(37:12):
which makes him a great head coach, is that the
campbelling aside, because the Campbell's is gonna end the season.
But he's a culture builder. He's not you know, people
coaches come in with great offensive systems and they come
and go, and there's generally a disconnect. When a guy's
doing so great with an offensive system, then he tries
to bring it into a new team and suddenly it's different. Players,
and it doesn't work so well. When you can build

(37:34):
a culture like Dan Campbell has. This is what's going
to succeed. When you have all your players and they
love playing for you and playing for one another, and
you make them the best version of themselves. That's what's
gonna keep winning. That's going to keep people wanting to
come play. Few people who want to come play deep
into the season. He's saved Jared Goff's career. You're David Montgomery.
He was on the show with us saying how much

(37:55):
he loved Dan Campbell. Every player loves Dan Campbell, right,
because this is who he is, and he has his
finger on the pulse of the team and he knows
what buttons to push, and he's pushing the right buttons.
After this game, this is a good loss. And now
you see what happens the rest of the season. This
is what he does. When you're a culture builder. These
are the moments that you can turn a negative into

(38:15):
a positive really quickly. They're going to come out with
their hair on fire on Sunday and for the last
three weeks of the season, well they got the Bears,
all right. Maybe your hair is just maybe a little
smoky and that's all you need to beat the Bears.

Speaker 3 (38:27):
Bears in another no show effort. I'm sure Caleb Williams
will go without another interception if he plays. I mean,
he got banged up pretty good in that Monday night game.
But all of that to say, Campbell also giving us
a little bit of a blueprint of something maybe when
you're building out stafs you need to look at, you know,
all the ex players. There's a relatability, there's a coachability

(38:48):
and a let's you know, have our honest moments of
how the effort and how you're playing and everything else.
Dan Campbell being on the biggest stage that he can
be playing for the Cowboys as he was years ago.
So even though we may have chuckled at some of
the early talk, they backed it up. And there's no
questioning who or what he is, what the philosophy is,

(39:10):
and certainly on the field and in that coach's box,
no chance you have any ambiguity about what Dan Campbell's about.
And that goes a long way and any walk of life.

Speaker 1 (39:22):
Yeah, look, he is what a modern head coach looks
like in the NFL. Now, how do we do this?
The players are different. Gen Z is different. This is
how I reach my team and he reaches them. He
just got to not make those really knee jerk decisions.

Speaker 3 (39:34):
I mean, you still jinx him and they're not winning anything,
but that's okay.
