Speaker 1 (00:29):
Hello, Welcome inside our four The Jalen Brunson Show with
my bes friend Ogannanoby shoot in live from the Tirack
dot Com studios tirec dot com. But I help you
get there an unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road
hazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers tirack dot
com the way tire buying should be well. Already we

(00:53):
are getting excuses from a coach knocked out of the
playoffs about why his team didn't win.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
Is it tylu wait emptively, wait for it, Wait for it,
waite for it.

Speaker 1 (01:04):
Except we're not going to talk about Nick Nurse at
least not yet.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
Wow, not Nick Nur. I mean, look at look at
how kind and benevolent you are as the victorious Knicks
look ahead to the next round in a matchup against
the Indiana Patients. I always want to call them Indianapolis. Sure,
like I'm just conditioned that way, I am.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
I am channeling my inner Michael Malone. Where last year
I was no, we're not getting up attention, is it said?

Speaker 3 (01:28):
Now it's like a hey, congratulations to the Lakers. They're
a great team, and uh, well, you gotta act like
you've been there before, had been Yeah, before you weren't. No, no,
not at all. But now you've been there. And after
one game in the playoffs with Nicky yelling go New York,
go New York. We want Boston.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
We okay, let's say but one step first, they beat
the Sixers tonight one, eighteen fifteen, moving on to the
next round of the.

Speaker 3 (01:52):
One hundred and thirteen points from your starters in this one. Yeah, yeah,
that's the biggest thing. As we talked a little bit
with still looking at the final place, it's a long review.
Scott Foster still hasn't decided that if that wouldn't count.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
Yet, you know, I wonder if this now everybody thing
now think about this just really quick before we get
into doc Rivers is.

Speaker 4 (02:09):
That this game could be overturned.

Speaker 3 (02:11):
You know, that would be something.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
When I heard Scott Foster was assigned to this game,
when the extender got got assigned to this game today,
I thought again, okay, really the Knicks are not going
to win, right, We're going to Game seven on Saturday.

Speaker 3 (02:23):
Okay, fine, but.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
Sometimes you need the exception to prove the rule. He
can't he can't come in and just tilt every game
towards the home team, because what home teams are? What
forty two and twenty something ridiculous when Scott Foster was
a game. But you know, it's it's it's you know,
two out of every three games or almost nearly three
out of every four games when he when he refrees it.
But there's got to be that that fourth out of

(02:46):
fourth game where okay, maybe it's a little bit more
down the middle.

Speaker 3 (02:49):
Well, it's like dentists and favoring different flossing, brushing or
toothpaste exercises.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
Yeah, I used to you know, my teacher, I used
to that teacher in Middle Star. I remember this mister
Hecker was his name, and you can imagine he's a weapon.
You can imagine the nicknames he got and he's and
we would talk about those commercials were you know, four
out of five dnis surveyed say that, you know, use
cress two space paste over it.

Speaker 3 (03:12):
And he would say, you know how they do that commercial?

Speaker 1 (03:14):
We were like no, and he goes, they wave one
hundred dollars bill in front of a Dentis's face and go,
would you recommend Kres? The Dennis says, yes, you do
it for the first four Then the fifth guy, they go,
you don't want to recommend Kres, do you? Because we
got to make this commercial be believable. And the Dennis
goes no, and I give them a hundred dollars bills?

Speaker 3 (03:29):
Is that how he taught everything in that class? That's problematic?
Yeah it was. That was math. That's how he did math.
No wonder I have to do the math on this show.

Speaker 1 (03:37):
I had one of my best one liners though, in
his class. When I was a kid, he gave He
gave a test once and something happened and he was
giving everybody the chance to take the test over again.

Speaker 3 (03:48):
Okay, something happened.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
I forget what it was during the test, but he
gave people because he was out the day before for review.

Speaker 3 (03:53):
I think he was sick.

Speaker 1 (03:55):
Then the test was the day after and there was
something that I forget what it was, and he said, okay,
I'll make it. He was a fun guy and he said,
I'll make a deal with everybody. I have all the
tests graded right here. Before I give you your grade,
you tell me if you want to take the test again,
and if you say you want to take the test again,
get to take it again. But if I tell you
your grade, you can't take it again. And I'm like,
I'm in with that. I don't know that you want

(04:17):
to do that to middle school kids, but okay, fine,
Hey no.

Speaker 3 (04:19):
It's it's a harsh lesson. How well do you think
you did?

Speaker 1 (04:22):
So I'm one of the first kids he asked, right,
And I was pretty smart in school. And he says Jason,
and I said, yeah, I want to know. He goes,
you want to know what you got? I go yeah,
because I knew what. He well, you hit me and
he goes ninety four and I said okay, and he goes,
you're lucky, and he goes ooh, and I look at him.
I go, or I studied And then he just go
all right, Joseph, what do you want Like one of

(04:45):
the best one liners I ever had. He goes, you're lucky, said,
or I studied, or the kid knows some stuff. How
about that some blank I know some algebra. Okay, quiet
them skulls, I'm broadcasting. So he was a fun dude.
It was fun to you think about that, the math
and the lesson right there. He Look, we'll get to
the Knicks and the Sixers coming up in a few
minutes and lots of unpack and really no, because from

(05:05):
the other side of this, from the Sixers side of this,
I can't tell you how easy it's gonna be for
the Sixers to take a leap. I mean tremendously easy
when you're looking at one of the biggest goats of
Game six and I mean goat is in boy, this
guy's were in the goat horns to how easy it's
gonna be to get better in the summer. But outside
of the Knicks, and they're absolute heroics tonight over the Sixers.

(05:26):
And I don't know if you've said better, biggest display
of guts and stamina you know, in the history of
the sport than the Knicks the last couple of nights, really,
but the Bucks go home they lose to the to
the Pacers, and they lose in in a blowout style.
The game was never close. Damian Lillard did play no yarnis.
Doc Rivers, meeting the media following the game, gave you

(05:51):
and we and I knew, I said, I told our editors, Hey,
what do you want Jason post game from the Bucks
and the and the Pacers? I all right, everybody else
is gonna be boring, but get Doc Rivers. Well, what
do you want for Doc Rivers? I go, just get in.
When he starts making excuses about why they lose, they go.
Did he say that already? And I said no, I said,
I said to Patrick, I said, no, he's going to
say we've seen this, because that's all he does is

(06:12):
make excuses. We didn't have to fall forward long, Jason, No, no, no,
very beginning, here's Doc Rivers and the excuses why the
Bucks are going home in the playoffs.

Speaker 5 (06:21):
Winning is incredibly hard. It takes twelve to fifteen players
turning themselves into one and buying in stat right there.

Speaker 1 (06:32):
Stop right there, stop right there, stop right there. Winning
is incredibly hard. I want you to know that you're
all upset that we didn't win. But I want to
tell you how hard it is. I mean, my goodness,
it's hard to win. You don't know this, but it's
hard to win. And then that little dig of getting
twelve guys to buy in that he kind of goes
right by getting twelve years guys, you got to buy

(06:54):
that's I mean, first of all, we are saying it's
hard to win. Thanks, because I've never watched the basketball
game before. I don't know I knew to this thing
you call the playoffs. What do we actually we finish
the season? We keep playing like I mean, sit here
and say, like he's talking to someone who's just watching
a basketball game for the first time, you know, it's
hard to win.

Speaker 3 (07:09):
Oh gee, thanks a lot.

Speaker 1 (07:11):
I thought with the best player on the planet, you'd
be better than nineteen and twenty three since you took
over as head coach.

Speaker 3 (07:16):
But what do I know? Winning is really hard? Doc, Well,
I'm so mad. I'm so happy the next one. Yeah,
but you know you wish that you'd get a different
track from the playlist, right, this is the I'm gonna
go to this artist and see what it shuffles me to.
They're like, no, every time, it's the same guy. He
has more than one hit. What are we doing here?

(07:38):
You know, tears for fears. They've got a lot of hit.

Speaker 1 (07:40):
No, no, they don't, really, they don't really they do. No,
they don't do no ten of them. Stop there, but
you might get that same one shurve to you time
it again. Yeah, he even Tyshert knows he doesn't have tens.

Speaker 3 (07:51):
Maybe like six and two are a cover.

Speaker 1 (07:54):
Let's uh, let's pick up Doc Rivers from where we
left off him letting everybody know, Hey, it's it's really
hard to win. Uh.

Speaker 5 (08:01):
It takes twelve to fifteen players turning themselves in one
and buying in h your staff being together as one
and did health and did you still made not win?
You know, it's just hard and you're not gonna win
unless you're healthy or unless you're really deep. So nothing

(08:22):
you can do about it. You know, Yatis plays the
way he plays, and we need them to continue to
play that way. Dame probably out of seat.

Speaker 1 (08:29):
Wait, got right there, because up before we get to Dame,
because that's the best part.

Speaker 6 (08:32):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (08:32):
So you don't win unless you're healthy or you're really deep.
So what Doc Rivers is saying is that this team
wasn't good enough.

Speaker 3 (08:40):
We weren't.

Speaker 1 (08:40):
We didn't that, we weren't healthy, and we weren't deep.
Let me go back for a second. Yeah, under Adrian Grifford,
what was their record thirty and thirty and thirteen?

Speaker 2 (08:47):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (08:48):
Did they have the second best record in the NBA
when he got it right? Okay, So I'm pretty sure
that the Bucks were good enough. Okay, I'm pretty sure
the Bucks were good enough. What was their record with
Doc Rivers nineteen and twenty three? Okay, so they were
good enough. Because all this happened while Yannis was healthy.
Right where Yanni's being hurt in the playoffs. I understand that,
and I'm gonna I'm gonna combat it by saying, lots

(09:08):
of other teams have missed guys, Lots of other guys
are missing. There's an All Star team already that's missed
a lot of time in the first round of the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (09:15):
It happens.

Speaker 1 (09:16):
But to sit here and say, oh, unless you're healthy
or you're really deep, No, you were winning games, man,
You were you were you were the number the second
best team in the NBA when you took over, and
you had all these guys, all the rest of the
season and you.

Speaker 3 (09:28):
Finished nineteen and twenty three. But as you're doing this
breakdown and you do the Hey, this is hard and
I need everybody buying in whatever bringing up Yannis at
this point, there's no point. Remember we had him. I mean,
if we had him, we'd be in the finals.

Speaker 1 (09:44):
That's how we go, right, But we did talking about Wow,
that's the way he plays it.

Speaker 3 (09:47):
What are you gonna do? It's like he's got nothing
to do with where you're at in this in this moment.

Speaker 1 (09:52):
Make sure when you ask me the question you asked,
make sure hey, without Yannis, right, I want to make
sure people know he didn't play.

Speaker 3 (09:57):
Hey, doc, Yeah, how important would y honest had been
theoretically that's you know.

Speaker 1 (10:03):
That's a great question. That's a great question. If he
had played, We're a normal team. We're winning, we're still playing.
I mean, I'm I'm coaching. I'm coaching my ass off.
We're doing great. But you know, hey, I thank you
for your question. A great question.

Speaker 3 (10:14):
Great question is is he one of the guys out
of the fifteen that you couldn't get to play the
way you wanted to. I mean, if you want to
do that, just just go right at him, Come at
him now, if that he's a man, he's over thirty.

Speaker 1 (10:24):
If that's not enough, Okay, Uh, you know, winning is hard.
Remember winning his hard, especially without.

Speaker 2 (10:33):
Who was really damn good in that.

Speaker 1 (10:36):
When you only have one Hall of Famer instead of three,
it's a lot more difficult to win.

Speaker 3 (10:40):
Man, I'm telling you, no, he's got two. When you
I mean Dame's gonna be Yeah.

Speaker 1 (10:45):
Basketball Hall of Fame, go to the Hall year probably right,
Damien is gonna be in the Hall of Fame after
next year.

Speaker 3 (10:51):
Look at that, ex Nick, now good?

Speaker 1 (10:54):
Uh So, Okay, winning is hard and and and you
don't win if you're healthy or deep. Meanwhile, when you
had Giannis, you were terrible and the team was good
before then. But now Damian Lillard, who was supposed to
be the big addition to this team coming in, was
supposed to be great and help lot didn't go the
way he wanted. Now, why didn't the season go the
way Damian Lillard wanted. We'll have our thoughts, but Doc

(11:17):
thinks he hits it right on the head with why
Damian Lillard had such a tough years?

Speaker 3 (11:26):
This is where you play them.

Speaker 7 (11:27):
I think it was.

Speaker 8 (11:28):
It was a roller coaster of a year.

Speaker 4 (11:31):
But I think for me personally.

Speaker 3 (11:35):
Alex Tyshert, that's an epic fail. That's a fail. That's
a fail.

Speaker 1 (11:39):
Jason, what would you like instead of instead of trying
to find the rest of the Tears.

Speaker 6 (11:42):
For Fear songs, I'm still at four the two covers
on all two remixes too.

Speaker 1 (11:47):
Let's remix chick up the doc Rivers sound bite from
where he left off.

Speaker 3 (11:52):
He was about to talk about why Damian Lillard didn't
have a big year.

Speaker 5 (11:54):
Giannis plays the way he plays, and we need him
to continue to play that way. Dame probably season this
year where he never really get in the right condition
that he wanted because he didn't know where he was
going all summer and so he couldn't work out.

Speaker 1 (12:10):
Oh my god, I mean really really, Dame didn't have
the year he work because he didn't know where he
was going, so we couldn't work out. What does that
mean he can't work out? You have a team yet, No,
I want to go to the gym, nopem gonna play
video games? Why I don't have a team? Why should
I go work out? I couldn't work out. I couldn't
get in game shape. If this was the beginning of
the season, if this was middle of November December and

(12:32):
Damian Lillard was struggling and he said, well, listen, you
know what, my workouts were different. I didn't have a team.
I couldn't be around them in the summer. I understand
this is May. You're talking about May. You had November, December, January, February, March, April, counting,
counting these months off my fingers, like I am right now.

(12:54):
I'm sorry, you're not in shape by now. You're not
in shape mine now to play. Really, you're not in shape.
That's why you didn't have a great season, because we
weren't in shape you were. That's the excuse that Doc
Rivers is giving us. That's why Damian Lillar couldn't play
because he's not in shape. This should be the end
of Doc River's coaching career. This should be where the
Bucks go, Wow, we were really terrific. Thought you take
us to the next level, and boy were we bet.

(13:14):
I know Giannis is hurt, but wow, we can't run
this back again. And this should be where everybody understands, Okay,
Doc Rivers should be on TV and that's where he
finishes his day is the rest of the way.

Speaker 3 (13:23):
Yeah, but after that explanation, I don't want him explaining
the game to me. I mean you could do that
with Dame Lillard and be like a you know, he
wasn't shave whatever like you. Look, he had everything he wanted,
like every opportunity to talk about Dame and how hard
the adjustment was and all the stuff going on in

(13:44):
his personal life, family, getting the rotations right, whatever. Again,
you had a full season get down. But when you
start getting into conditioning and getting right and whatever, that
makes no sense. Here's Dave Lollard quote. I did my
pregame shooting, and then I think just being in the building,
seeing all the t s on the chair, as I
started moving around a little bit, I was like, blanket,
I'm gonna play. Let's you do this. There's no guarantees

(14:06):
that we're gonna make it back home, and I want
to be out there. So that was it.

Speaker 1 (14:10):
Look, I give him a lot of credit for playing right.
Playing tonight when he was injured, and when he's hurt
is different than Doc saying he hasn't been in shape. No,
I can't get in shape over ten months. I can't
get in shape.

Speaker 3 (14:22):
Nope, can't get in shape ten months now, can't do it? Whatscha?
You can owe to a lot of the psychological that
might have hampered him at times during the year, but
not in your exit interview.

Speaker 1 (14:34):
Man, I mean Doc rivers coaching career needs to end.
I mean, I mean he hasn't done anything since two
thousand and eight. Fail with the Clippers, fail with the Sixers.
He's failed here, Like, what else do you need? I
get he's a good guy, and he helped shepherd the
Clippers through the bad error at the end of Donald
Sterling and into Steve Balmer. I get that, man, and
that was good. But come on, you brought him into

(14:54):
Win and all the guy did was not win even
when he had guys healthy.

Speaker 3 (14:58):
All he did was.

Speaker 1 (15:02):
I did a dat win thing in my head Former Cowboys. Yah, yeah,
this needs me. The end of Doc River's coaching career.
Uh Am out of Fresca, exit, swam to the Jason
Smith Show. Is my best friend Mike Harmon coming up next? Yes,
we'll have more on the Knicks and the Sixers. Believe me,
the Sixers are closer than you think. And embiid I'm
gonna shock you he doesn't need to leave, he needs

I can make it work for any song. I can
make it work for any song, any song. Fox Sports
Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike
Harmon live from the tire Rack dot Com studios, where
I mean maybe the greatest game in the history of
NBA basketball, The Knicks beat the Sixers one eighteen one
fifteen in the.

Speaker 3 (18:27):
History of playoff basketballer really bigger than Jordan's shot over
Brian Russell. Yeah, probably, let's see, bigger than Steve Kerr shot.
Oh sure, one hundred percent? Yeahareem Derek Fisher point four?

Speaker 4 (18:41):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (18:41):
Oh yeah, yeah, the.

Speaker 3 (18:44):
The hundred shots made by big shot Bob.

Speaker 1 (18:46):
The Dennis Johnson Steele to uh, bigger than that? I
mean really nothing this big Tonight The Knicks beat the
Sixers and they move on to the second round of
the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (18:57):
This is really uh, this is gonna be the biggest
thing in your worts universe since what's.

Speaker 1 (19:05):
Well yeah, well, just because the Knicks haven't been good
for so long where they finally got to the playoffs,
you could tell we're not ready for this, like you
know when they when they they you know, two years ago,
and they beat the the beat the Hawks and they
tied the series at one apiece. They're screaming outside, Okay,
you lost that series. Look, this is a case where

(19:26):
they won last year and you could tell they were
building for big things. I was telling you from the
beginning of the year. Things fall right, the Knicks can
go to the finals because Jalen Brunson is that good
and I know that nobody and that was fine, but
what but now everybody had to come around to Okay, boy,
Jalen Brunson is really something. Even though he's not the

(19:47):
highlight guy. He's not the physical, flying up and down
the court highlight guy, people start to get, oh, I
see the genius in his game. He's probably one of
the three smartest players on the court, the way he's
able to get guys on his hip and fake.

Speaker 3 (19:59):
And rate basketball IQ hear that term a lot. How
do you quantify that.

Speaker 1 (20:03):
I'll say you when some when someone doesn't have the
physical attributes and they still find a way to to
to impact the game. Not on that, but dominated yeah,
you're a smart player. You're a smart player. It's not
always just oh I saw this play here, and I
saw this passa This is how do you find a
way when you clearly are not when you physically are
at a deficit, when it comes to how you're playing,

(20:24):
and you still find how does that guy find a way?

Speaker 3 (20:26):
I know how good you are. You get bonus for
making the quote right, basketball player?

Speaker 1 (20:31):
And I know this because me, you know the body
I had my entire life. I was a really good
hockey player. I was a really good softball player. I
didn't do anything better than I played hockey. And and
it was like that and other teams that go, how
the bike is that guy scoring on us? And I'm going, yeah,
because I know what I'm doing, and I know what
I'm doing more than you do. Right, So that's I've
always been able to tell him.

Speaker 3 (20:53):
The hockey equivalent of an ethis pin.

Speaker 1 (20:56):
Dude, Well, I played goalie once because I was a
captain and and our goalie could didn't make it. I'm like, okay,
I got to dress up because I'm the captain. And
after that game, I understand exactly why at the end
of every hockey game everybody lines up to thank the
goal like it is the pressure. I was like striker
and airplane. The sweat was pouring down over my mat.

Speaker 8 (21:18):
No.

Speaker 1 (21:18):
I lost two to one, and that's because the guys
were killing themselves in front of me, the block shots
and keep keep the puck away from me, and I
gave up a really bad goal.

Speaker 3 (21:26):
Did you have to buy beer after that?

Speaker 1 (21:28):
I bought you, kid, and I bought so many drinks
for everybody on the team. It was just insane. And
I go, I never want to do that again. I
never want to do that again.

Speaker 3 (21:39):
It once and you just say, you know what, I'm
good with that.

Speaker 1 (21:41):
I said, I never want to do that again. I'm
always going to make sure if our goalie can't make
I said, if you can't make it, you call me
so I could get somebody else to come, because I
am never doing that again.

Speaker 3 (21:51):
I'm never It was awful. Did you go fine and
start scouting for an extra goalie?

Speaker 5 (21:55):
No?

Speaker 3 (21:55):
No, he just couldn't make that game. He didn't game
that he couldn't. I don't know. I was much.

Speaker 1 (22:00):
I said, if that happens again, you call me way
ahead of time and so I can make sure.

Speaker 3 (22:04):
I get to go. You gotta have a guy and retainer.
It was awful. It was I stand up over the.

Speaker 1 (22:08):
Gasses and sandwiches. I remember both goals I gave up.
One was like from the blue line and and I
just didn't grab it when it came in. And second
one was I tried to slide and it went and
it went under me in like the last five minutes
of the game, and I was just crestfallen.

Speaker 3 (22:23):
I'm like, these guys killed U, so we're going to
lose two to one.

Speaker 1 (22:26):
And it turns out in the final couple of minutes
when they were pressing, yeah, because we're.

Speaker 3 (22:29):
Like I made a couple of really big says. But
it didn't matter. He lost two to one. You know what, I,
as a child, you were better about bringing your glove
to the ballyard might have made that say well, no, no, no.

Speaker 1 (22:38):
A lot different when I'm going, oh wow, I can't
grab I can't kind of quite close my glove on there.

Speaker 9 (22:43):
You kind.

Speaker 1 (22:44):
Oh, it was awful, terrible, terrible, But look, so I
always tell but you see a guy like Brunson physically
when he's not but he still finds a way to
do it. And you know, teams try to gear up
to stop him and they can't. First two games of
the of the series, he's he wasn't good right, and
he had the big bad pass at the end of
the game. But he's still forty more points in each

(23:07):
of the last three games. The guy has clutched the
entire team.

Speaker 3 (23:10):
Is only seven guys have done that in playoff. Hi, no, no,
I mean he's He's the best nick in twenty five years.
He's better than Mellow's better than anybody else they had.
You got to go back to you already killed off
Carmelo's better than Frostburg Carmelo. Carmelo had one year he.

Speaker 2 (23:30):
Killed off Carmelo.

Speaker 3 (23:32):
That Brunson's already better as a knick than he was.
Washed your mouth out, listen.

Speaker 1 (23:37):
I love Mellow brought me my only chance in college,
but Jalen Brunson can do a hell.

Speaker 3 (23:42):
Of you your only championship.

Speaker 1 (23:46):
I'm saying, there's never been a better basketball player at
Syracuse than Mellow. I mean, he's the best ever. But
when it comes it, well, yeah, come on, you gotta
get Mellow. Man, that's a big deal. But uh, but
nobody's been able to affect the game like Jalen Brunson.
You he the best, Nick. I mean, you got to
go back to Ewing. But this is an eraror for
Patrick Ewing. Where the Knicks were in the conference finals
every year, the NBA Finals a couple of times like

(24:09):
this is where. Okay, hey, Ewing was great. You gotta
give him his due. He is the best Nicks I've seen.

Speaker 4 (24:13):
But this isn't the two weeks of insanity.

Speaker 3 (24:17):
No. That was way bigger than this. Lisanity. That was
legendary stuff right there, way bigger than this dude.

Speaker 1 (24:24):
Come on, man, are you kidding me? Lin Sanity was
fun lynd sanity was fun. This greatest two weeks of
your life?

Speaker 4 (24:31):
This is.

Speaker 3 (24:36):
Jason, what's the greatest two weeks of your life? You had?

Speaker 1 (24:38):
First two weeks after you were married? No, first two
weeks after your kid was born? No, first two weeks lisanity? Yes, man, yes,
And the big thing is lisanity. Mellow was hurt for
the majority of us mellow was out. I remember coming
back he was. He was stunned because there was a
question from the New York media saying, hey, when you
come back and you coexist with Jeremy Lynn, he's like

(24:59):
you blankety, Like man, this has been my team and
now this guy's been hot for a week, and you say,
can I coexistent?

Speaker 4 (25:04):
Hey?

Speaker 3 (25:05):
Man?

Speaker 2 (25:06):
The definition of New York minute right there.

Speaker 4 (25:08):
Yeah, it's sanity. It's the two weeks then Zoe's birth.

Speaker 1 (25:12):
Yeah, you ate the other the bets beating the Cubs
in twenty fifteen, sure, sure, yeah, sure, but this, I
mean we.

Speaker 3 (25:22):
Were on air for the loss to the Royals.

Speaker 2 (25:24):
I have a final call.

Speaker 3 (25:26):
No we knew. No, I'm not bad. No, we don't
need that activate shirt. I just watched the Arms show.
Was so ready.

Speaker 1 (25:34):
The Knicks have not been this good. I look, they've
had like they've been in the secondmound of the playoffs.
They were there last year, but they have not been
this good with a chance to go so far. Really
in twenty five.

Speaker 3 (25:45):
Yeah, ninety nine, and then you go back to yeah,
yeah years later and you had ninety nine and you
wing Tours Achilles and was out for the NBA Finals
and now twenty five years just a short hop skipping
a jump twenty five years. Look out it went runs.
It was like that. Man, I can remember a lot
of anxious nights, but it goes by fast.

Speaker 5 (26:06):
No.

Speaker 1 (26:06):
Look, it's for the for the Knicks to be here
and to see the popularity that they have across the
board that just continues to grow.

Speaker 3 (26:15):
I mean it.

Speaker 1 (26:15):
The Knicks need to save the NBA playoffs. We're talking
about a second round for the first time in almost
twenty years with no KB Steph for Lebron Right, the
big star power is not there and you can see it. Look,
Jokic is, you know, MVP and best player in the league.
But it's Jokic. People aren't going crazy saying I gotta
get to the TV to see you. There's another great play. Look,

(26:37):
check is great.

Speaker 3 (26:38):
SGA is great, Right, Anthony Edwards is great. I get it.

Speaker 1 (26:41):
But the NBA is saying, we need Celtics knicks. We
need Celtics knicks or you know what's gonna happen to
the ratings by the time you get to the conference finals.
Let's just say, because I could see it happening, the
Pacers beat the Knicks. I can see Haliburton getting hot
and Pascal Siakam getting hot, Nobdy topping.

Speaker 3 (26:57):
Scoring going, I don't know what I'm doing. I'm hitting
threes now for some reason.

Speaker 1 (27:00):
Can you imagine what it would look like if you're
talking about a conference finals of the Celtics and the
Pacers and then you get to something like Oklahoma City
in Minnesota, or youven Oklahoma City in Denver, Like.

Speaker 3 (27:12):
The NBA Finals is gonna be Oh, it's the NBA
fan it's just despicable me for come, I see it's
the NBA Finals, Like that's what it was. You got
that pre programmed already with they NEI evil grew. I mean,
you tried to make them the villain in in the NBA,
and like I said, NBA, they grew is a lovable guy.
So that doesn't work.

Speaker 1 (27:29):
You need Nixon Celtics, I mean because you need the
Nicks specifically, because as good as the Celtics are a
big heritage team, they don't grab your They don't have
the it fact. Jason I have the idea doesn't have
the it factor that the Knicks have all.

Speaker 3 (27:42):
They don't have all the comparisons that Edwards is getting
to Michael Jordan Oh sure, Ai Michael Jordan has to say,
it's the closest thing I've seen since I've retired.

Speaker 1 (27:50):
How about Ai Michael Jordan plays against Anthony Edwards.

Speaker 3 (27:55):
Do we see what happened?

Speaker 1 (27:56):
Well, I mean he may still be able to score twenty.
They played one of their famous practice one on one game.

Speaker 4 (28:01):
I can get on board and Jason, you think the
Knicks are good, now wait till they get Jewel Embiid.

Speaker 3 (28:06):
Way do we get Juliet.

Speaker 1 (28:07):
But what I tell you the headline was going to
be the entire playoffs, everyone saying, look at the Knicks win,
and they're doing it all without Randall.

Speaker 4 (28:14):
Nobody said that.

Speaker 3 (28:15):
I'm telling it, Yes, everybody. Josh Harten Josh hart tried
to bring it up in case it went awry. He
was doing the uh the saving, saving everybody else from
having his sayt well, I mean, look what we've done
without Julie's because he may mention his stats. He mentioned
a bunch of stuff. He got very specific, very specific.
My tips almost benched him at halftime.

Speaker 1 (28:35):
You know what I would do if I was the Knicks,
I would say, because we'll get into Embiid coming up,
and if he there's a big stuff to say about them.

Speaker 3 (28:41):
What I would do is I would go up and go, hey, Joelle,
just see.

Speaker 1 (28:44):
What they were chatting about you and Wills Fargo after
the game was over, because you can still the second
game in a row. You can hear all the fans
chanting blank embiid, blank embiid blank em bead Hey, Joey.

Speaker 3 (28:55):
You hear the fans of Chen But aren't there. There
was more participat patient for that than there was hands
across America.

Speaker 1 (29:00):
Aren't those Nick fans? No, Joell, these are all Sixers fans.
I've trapp three here right here there.

Speaker 3 (29:04):
Are you just point out there there's a couple of
random Sixers guys looking around like what the hell am
I in the middle of They're all Sixers fans just
because they're not wearing a jersey. But this is it is.

Speaker 1 (29:15):
It is a moment where I am I expected it,
but yet it's still incredibly exciting to get just because
the newness of it is it hasn't worn off yet.

Speaker 3 (29:25):
Well. No, the biggest thing was that you were scared
out of your mind that you were gonna have to
wait another forty eight hours to see how it was
gonna flow. Out well.

Speaker 1 (29:31):
But like I said, the best part was if they
blew it tonight and lost Game seven. We come on
the air Monday night, we're into the second round of
the playoffs, and we don't need to talk about the Knicks.

Speaker 3 (29:39):
That was the best part. So okay, I feel like
I win when I lose. That was fine with it.
Anytime we can bring it back to the Eurovision winning
song water Loo I was by the great musical group
Abba We Run.

Speaker 1 (29:52):
I was fine, I was, I was hey. That was
the case by the time we got to Monday night. Listen,
we don't need to talk about the Knicks. It's over now.
I mean, come on, it's we don't need We're we're
on in the second round of the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (30:02):
We don't. The Knicks are old news. They're old news now,
and they'll be a couple of dumb other things said
by NFL players or agents or the Sanders will start
clapping back on another guy that transferred out or something.
Plenty of stuff to happen between now and Monday. Uh.

Speaker 1 (30:16):
And now we'll go to a guy that really knows
nothing about winning, because none of this team's ever win.

Speaker 3 (30:21):
It's Brian Finley with what's trending in the wide world
of sports.

Speaker 7 (30:24):
I guess I'm, you know, sadistic in that form that
I like pleasure from pain and as a sports fan, as.

Speaker 3 (30:30):
A sports fan, let's let's make that very clear.

Speaker 1 (30:32):
You mean maskistic, Yes, yes, you want adistic, must a
realistic looking for a man mixed them opportunistic.

Speaker 7 (30:37):
We'll think about it as a Clipper fan, as a
Charger fan. Yeah, the histories of those teams, they've never
won a championship.

Speaker 3 (30:44):
And let's start with the Knicks.

Speaker 1 (30:46):
Year.

Speaker 7 (30:46):
This is to you, Jason, this is like them winning
a series and their playoffs is like a super Bowl
for you, and we have to just thank you for
your celebratory action.

Speaker 3 (30:56):
One eighteen to one fifteen.

Speaker 7 (30:58):
The Knicks are winners in a game six against the
seventy six ers, so going onto the next round is
New York. They got forty one points from Jalen Brunson,
by the way, in this game and afterwards seventy.

Speaker 3 (31:10):
Six Ers said coach Nick Nurse went to one of.

Speaker 7 (31:14):
The most frequently used excuses in the book.

Speaker 10 (31:18):
You know, I'm a little disappointed that he didn't that
he didn't get in there a little bit. Again, I
don't understand why every time he goes in there that
they just never It's but it's kind of been that way, alright.
He goes in there and gets gets sent to the
floor time and time and time again.

Speaker 4 (31:34):
And I mean he.

Speaker 10 (31:35):
Shot four free throws one, one and one and one.
They followed him in the back court. I mean, I
just I don't understand it.

Speaker 7 (31:42):
That was Nick Nurse, by the way, talking about Tyrese Maxey,
one of his players.

Speaker 3 (31:45):
You know what, the Nick Nurse, Take the L. Take
the L.

Speaker 1 (31:48):
Nick Nurse, don't be the guy complaining about the officiating yet,
take the L. You complained after Game two, or complaining
game three. Take the L, se pl you lost the series.
But here's the thing, you're a Knicks fan. You would
never just take the L. You would always find an excuse.
I talked last night when the two minute report came
out all the calls that were missed that helped the
Sixers to that big comeback. I said, you know what,

(32:09):
I don't care. The Knicks had so many chances to
win that game. It doesn't matter to me. I can't
see him say, oh, that one call like the Sixers
jumped in Game two, go oh, if they just heard
that one call, we would have won. No, you had
chances to win the game, six Ers. That chances here
they didn't win. Take the l take it.

Speaker 7 (32:25):
If they just the Jets just didn't have that one
butt fumble, who knows would have happened to their life.

Speaker 1 (32:30):
It would just be the rest of the season would
have gone the way it was. We just wouldn't have
that play. Yeah, yeah, that was Thanksgiving, Yeah exactly. It
wasn't a playoff game. Well by the day, it.

Speaker 3 (32:39):
Was a national game. That kept me from getting to
the trough a little bit because I had to.

Speaker 4 (32:44):
Watch it kind of. The Jets were on TNF.

Speaker 1 (32:47):
How about that, Well, boy, let's send The Jets were
on television until Rogers first game last year.

Speaker 4 (32:53):
With Sims on the call.

Speaker 7 (32:55):
Usually it's a black and white television by then. By
the way, let's get into the NBA. In the other
game that's going on, Pacers. They are winners one twenty
to ninety eight against the Bucks. So the Pacers are
on to the next round of the Eastern Conference semifinals.
Like the Knicks found a way to do, and the
Pacers did it in large part because of Obi Top
and former Nick twenty one points off the bench for him.

(33:19):
Maple Leafs come up with a game six win in
the NHL First Round playoff series. In the game six,
two to one is mentioned against the Bruins, so they're
going to go to a Game seven out East. In
Major League Baseball, we had the Astros coming up with
an eight to two win against the Guardians. Dodgers had
the night off Rangers blank the Nationals. The Giants usurp

(33:41):
control from the Red Sox and win at three to one.
I did throw that verb in there, and I'm not
sure how well that worked. Mets over the cub seven
to six. That was an eleven inning seven to two,
Orioles winners against the Yankees, and the Marlins get the
job done against.

Speaker 3 (33:57):
The Rockies five to four.

Speaker 7 (33:58):
That would be in ten innings and happy to report
as they get it back to Jason Smith, who has
no connection that I know of of the University of Michigan.
But you've got a Michigan Family T shirt on, so
I'm having a hard time thinking maybe you got that
out of a Cereal box. But I'll get it back
to you and Mike Harmon. Your White Sox did not

(34:18):
play today, so congrats on the win for your team today.

Speaker 3 (34:23):
Hey you go, Mike. Hey, let's see feel good about that?
Feel good? See you and hel Fenlely exit out about.

Speaker 1 (34:28):
A Fresca Hexit's rolling dome coming up next. Yeah, so
there's the Nick side of it, but you know, the
better story oftentimes is in the losing locker room. I'm
gonna zig where you think I'm gonna zag on Joel
Embiid and the Sixers.

Speaker 3 (34:41):
That's next right here, Jason and Mike Fox.

Speaker 2 (34:44):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.

Speaker 1 (34:52):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon.

Speaker 4 (34:56):
Oh don snapface and all that.

Speaker 1 (35:00):
Live from the tire rack dot Com Studios. And I
know better than to start a topic. Just let it,
breathe it into it, yep, until we hear from.

Speaker 3 (35:11):
Nicholas Cage all the way in there.

Speaker 1 (35:13):
All we got to wait a second because you know,
Alex ty Shirt, it's gonna do it.

Speaker 3 (35:18):
Don't pull out, no, no, no, I know.

Speaker 1 (35:20):
So you'll hear from Nick Cage and then we'll get
into a topic involving Joel embiid and the Sixers all
the way?

Speaker 3 (35:34):
All right? Oh wait one more time.

Speaker 6 (35:42):
My question Jason for you by the way. Yeah, so
I did a TikTok video on Shallows. It went pretty big.
It's like five hundred kviews. A lot of people call
me Nicholas Cage. What do you think?

Speaker 1 (35:50):
Oh yeah, I can see a little bit like Nick
Cage from con Air.

Speaker 3 (35:54):
Yeah. Yeah, like if he took his face off. Yeah
that's sure. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (35:59):
Can I cut your face off and see if it
went and see what it looks like her get it back.

Speaker 3 (36:03):
I'll get it right back. Sure, I'll put it right back.
Your question, how did you figure out the algorithm? And
what are the hashtags that I can use?

Speaker 6 (36:09):
No hashtags, nothing to get towards five hundred thousand, just
posted it.

Speaker 3 (36:13):
Uh so I got to figure out how to do that.

Speaker 1 (36:16):
Look, the Sixers lose to the Knicks, and we've we've
had a lot of the next night because boy, the
Knicks of the greatest team in the history, we.

Speaker 3 (36:22):
Get five hundred thousand with the dancing gifts.

Speaker 1 (36:25):
New York go Yeah, oh yeah yeah. Check Fox Sports
Radio on tritty. You just want to see how the
final seconds ticked off. The clock and what it was
like for us in the studio. But for the Sixers.
You know, I've said the entire year, Hey, Joelle Embiid's
gonna want out. He's gonna see the Sixers aren't building
towards what they thought he was building towards. They've had
so many times to try to get it right, and
they have not. What's the best thing for Joel Embiid,

(36:47):
Come to the Knicks, come to the next AA. But
I'm telling you, the best thing for Joel Embiid after
seeing the Sixers right now, is to stay where he
is because he's in a better chance, a better place
to win than he would be if he tried to
jump and join somebody else's team. Right, you have seen
the Sixers figure out, Okay, Tyrese Maxie is a great
number too, he told the beginning of the year, Hey, Max,

(37:09):
he's the guy. Just had to wait for him to
be able to, you know, to get it to be
that guy. But he is and they have nice pieces
surrounding him.

Speaker 8 (37:16):
Right.

Speaker 1 (37:16):
You can get big nights out of Kelly Oubre, but
he healed at a big disappearing act. But now he
shows up tonight, you know. But still now, hey, hey
for this. Let me tell Paul Reid, Hey, are you
glad you had the Knicks because they were the easier
matchup than the Sixers?

Speaker 3 (37:30):
Boy, so glad you had the Knicks. But so glad
Paul Reid. I didn't want the night to go without
at least you know, I do have to tweet that
out there.

Speaker 1 (37:39):
But Joel Embiid, it's easy for him to stay, especially
thinking about how they're set up to pursue other players
this summer. Now, before you tell you why it's so easy,
here's Embiid following the game talking about what is next
for him and the Sixers.

Speaker 2 (37:52):
My question is, do you have a better sense after
all that time and all those attempts of what kind
of team and what kind of players you need to
have here?

Speaker 8 (38:01):
That's not my job. That's some you know, those guys,
that's what they got paid for. Odd job is to
get better as basketball players. You know, every single year
we found a way, I find a way to get better.
He's gotten so much better. And I think that I
know the step he kick. You can't even take some
of the guys in the locker room that' got en better.
So I think you know every single I've gotten better,

(38:24):
so I'm excited to you know, keep walking on my game.

Speaker 3 (38:27):
You know. So that's good, right.

Speaker 1 (38:28):
It sounds like Embiid, Hey, not my job, I want
to buy obviously, he wants some sort.

Speaker 3 (38:33):
Of say of who they bring in. And Embiid with
a quick nod to Maxie, right, kind of like the
nurse stuff. In between complaining about the referees, was also
a hey, he needs to be able to pull up
baseline and he's got to work on some of that
part of his game instead of potentially getting into the
lane where you're not getting a call because you're smaller
and you know incidental contact is gonna be called. But
Embiid saying the right thing.

Speaker 1 (38:54):
And Embiid knows that he needs to be a part
where maybe now he's a he's a co number one
just because you know him to be healthy for the
biggest parts of the season, because yeah, he played.

Speaker 3 (39:03):
This series on one leg. Look, Joeby was still this
good on one leg.

Speaker 1 (39:07):
But here's the biggest thing is that with these nice
pieces they have, they have a great number, like a
great number two entires Maxie. Look, Kyle Lowry is done yep,
and Tobias Harris twenty nine minutes tonight, no points, first
time he hasn't scored in a game in seven years.
All right, he finishes, He finishes his five year contract.

(39:28):
Now it's up. So now, this was a lot of
money that Tobias Harris got, so here all of a sudden,
this frees up the Sixers to go hunting for another star.
Right now, you have Maxi in the backcourt point guard.
You need some kind of small forward, power forward hybrid
that can come in and light it up. And and
there's gonna be people who want to jump in on

(39:50):
that because people saw this series, and players saw this
series saying, man, the Sixers might be a me away
from get from doing well and winning it. Whether it's
Paul George or somebody else, whoever it is, you might
be in me away. It's not doesn't need to be
a big superstar. It needs to be a star type player.
But it's really easy to get it done because, as
you see, Joel Embiid is okay working with guys. He

(40:11):
wants more good players to come in. Everybody understands. So
this is actually gonna be a pretty easy shopping off
season for the Sixers to get better because they are close.
And for Embiid, it's better that he stays now than
he goes someplace else. Look at you, you want to
get trying to make it happen with the Knicks and.

Speaker 3 (40:31):
All that and blah blah blah. Look, he's a guy
that would have been the favorite for the MVP if
you extrapolate what he was doing regular season. We might
have been arguing about him and Jokics this time. He's
never gonna play in the game. He's never gonna play
enough game. Well no, but again, that was a dopey,
dopey thing that the PA and everybody agreed to. Once again,
just like you know the fact that all NBA can

(40:54):
be tied to how many games you play now and
all that stuff. You're here ineligible for these wars and
therefre you cannot get a max contract. Good buck to you,
We'll see you later. But it's the the idea that
now in the Eastern Conference, right, the West is stacked.

Speaker 5 (41:11):
Right.

Speaker 3 (41:11):
We look at how competitive it was for those final
four slots, and you have one or two teams that
are just on the outside looking. In Eastern Conference, you
got the Celtics and then everybody else, your Nicks, the Bucks,
whatever the next iteration is, and the Sixers have no
reason but to look at it and say one edition.

Speaker 1 (41:32):
It's the past week resistance to get to the NBA.

Speaker 3 (41:35):

if Lebron, if you want out of LA, go back
to the East, baby, go back to the East. Yeah,
like back to the future, for that's not happening. There
you have it nicely.

Speaker 1 (41:47):
Pitch Perfect four is the yeah, I really need we
need to pitch perfect.

Speaker 3 (41:51):
We're really fifty seven years old.

Speaker 4 (41:53):

Speaker 3 (41:53):
