You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Greetings and welcome inside final hour tonight, the Jason Smith
Show with my best friend Mike Harmon, Live from the time,
live fromthetirec dot Com studios tyrach dot I'll.

Speaker 3 (00:44):
Help you get there.

Speaker 1 (00:44):
At unmatched selection, fast free shipping, free road has a
protection over ten thousand recommended installers. Tiraq dot com is
the way tire buying should be. Well, I gotta I
gotta say this. I don't know, I don't know what
this is. I really I but the last couple of

(01:04):
nights and we'll get to the big NFL ball prediction
a second. The last couple of nights, there has been
absolute insanity in Major League Baseball that I don't know
what it is. Maybe it's the late hour. I have
no idea, but last night we had the Jose L
two Ve getting thrown out of the game foul the
ball off his foot. Umpire said, no, you didn't replay

(01:25):
show he clearly did. Takes off his sock and his
shoe to show him and he gets tossed. Next inning, uh,
Profar jerks and Profar is up and fastball high and
in says hit by pitch. Take your base.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
Profres says, no, it didn't hit me. He was trying
to step back into the box like, hey, I got
my bat, I don't want the base.

Speaker 1 (01:46):
And you can see on the replay the ball did
not get anywhere near him, and they went and looked
at it and they came back and said call stands,
which makes me think, okay, there's something fishy with Major
League Baseball umpiring right, Like, it really is something fishy
going on with MLB umpiring, because there's no way you
make that call. But it happened late at night. It
was the Astros Padres, and now tonight we get a

(02:08):
play that could stand for the Mariners season. The Yankees
beat the Mariners two to one in extra innings, and
the Astros have just taken over the Al West and
the Mariners slide down the standings. Has been difficult to watch.

Speaker 3 (02:24):
That ten game lead they had once upon a time.

Speaker 1 (02:26):
But it's crazy to see them lose so big so fast. Look,
Julio Rodriguez has not had a good season at all.
They have unbelievable starting pitching and they couldn't get it together.
The Yankees pull off a double play in the tenth
inning of the game they win two to one. That
I can't I still can't believe happened. Rodriguez is on third,

(02:52):
You got runners at first and third, and Randy arose
Arena is up and a Rosa Raina strikes out and
as his swing, he kind of gets fooled a little
bit and the bat flies out of his hand and
it flies down the third base line towards where Julio
Rodriguez is leading off of third. So strike three out

(03:13):
and the bat comes out of a Rose Rosa in
his hand. Julio Rodriguez just dodges out of the way
of the bat and kind of just stands there like, oh,
I don't want to get hit with the bat, and
he's and he's fifteen feet away from the base like
almost like he feels time is out and I don't
have to worry about getting back to the base, except

(03:34):
it's not. And the Yankee scream for the ball. Throw it,
throw it, throw it.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
Throw it.

Speaker 3 (03:40):
Julio Rodriguez is in the coaching box.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
Yeah, get back to third, Get back to third, and
Julio Reguez just brain farts and decides that oh yeah,
oh wait, oh I gotta get back and he easily
gets thrown out at third base. And it's a double play.
And this is a game the Mariner absolutely had to have.
They had to tie run a third. Instead, it's a

(04:03):
double play, and the Yankees win it two to one.
Like I really, I mean, I don't know what it
is late at night. I don't know if people are
drinking some kind of crazy water. I have no idea,
but this is insanely How does a player like COOLi Rodriguez,
you know, oh, this play is still alive. Just because
the bat flew out doesn't mean time is out. And
he runs away from the base slowly. He runs away from.

Speaker 3 (04:25):
The basel By the way, that bat kept going past
the edge of the edge.

Speaker 1 (04:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (04:32):
Yeah, that bat was flew all the way down down
the left Nice role again.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
I go back to Jason Stark, who always says they've
been playing baseball for one hundred and thirty years now,
and you're still going to see things and go, I've
never seen that before. I have never seen that before.
I mean that that that play stands for the Mariners
season right there, the ten game, everything else, blowing it,
the fact that it's a Rosarina who they traded for,
and it's Rodriguez who is on third base, I've never

(04:57):
seen that.

Speaker 3 (04:58):
I go through it, and and part of me starts
getting into the minutia of the rules and intense and
letter of the law, spirit of the law, whatever else
when when a bat goes flying into play like that
as to whether it should be blown dad or not.
But here, you know, very smartly, the Yankees look at

(05:19):
this guy's wandered away from the base, literally in the
coaching box like he did that little like he knee
TiO Russell Wilson thing off. Watch I got away from
the bat. I watch this and I just go, what
are you doing? What is happening?

Speaker 1 (05:37):
I mean, you have first and third and nobody yeah
and now runner it first two outs and you lose
the game like that. That's that's Mariners baseball.

Speaker 3 (05:44):
He goes zero four on the night. Does Rodriguez hitting
two sixty six on the year. The power hasn't been there,
miss time, due to injury, all those things, the expectations
twenty three year old that you were expecting to be
the next face and had a massive year. And we
were part of a documentary that showed up on FS one. Right,
we had some commentary talking about the Mariners and and

(06:05):
where Rodriguez was at the time he started to find
his stroke a bit, but a grossly uneven season and
then you get something like this that's gonna stand as
one of the hallmark moments of the collapse. I mean
really West, Yeah, and it's.

Speaker 1 (06:22):
A guy who had he had a normal season, had
he had his normal star season. Maybe it's closer, maybe
it's a you know, they gave away mostly but maybe
it's a one or two game lead in the West
instead of what it is. I mean, this is a
game you have to absolutely have to have it.

Speaker 3 (06:36):
No, but that's the thing. You give it away, a
game like this to a team you know that's battling
up top the Yankees. Now that the Orioles had their
own thing, because we also saw something I've never seen
by a catcher earlier today, they went to have a
force out in the Orioles game, and uh, well, his
foot was in front of home plate, not on the black,

(06:57):
just beyond it. So they ruled the runner safe and
then they get a look at on them. They didn't
even challenge it. They realized where his foot were. Like, oh, so, like,
we're seeing these fundamental things in the final three weeks
of a season, final two weeks of a season, you know,
just elemental baseball things like you want coaching your daughter's
softball team. Would have lost your mind. Oh on any

(07:19):
of these things from last night into these two things tonight,
Are you kidding me? Here's a fifteen year old girl.
I would say, I need a couple minutes where I
could talk to you, okay, cause you understand what you're
in time out?

Speaker 1 (07:28):
Do you understand you're gonna go to the back of
the dugout right now? This is I'm gonna go for
I'm gonna go for a walk. Hey, he's only twenty three.

Speaker 3 (07:36):
This is Jay rod Man.

Speaker 1 (07:37):
This is the guy.

Speaker 3 (07:38):
This is the guy, one of the faces of the game.

Speaker 1 (07:40):
And from Ken Griffy Junior, the Mount Rushmore of Meridith
and this is this is a play.

Speaker 3 (07:45):
We get and all the pictures of him running around
with a triedment for crying out I don't.

Speaker 1 (07:49):
I mean look, and the other thing too, you see
is how many Yankee fans were there, Like the stands
were all filled.

Speaker 3 (07:55):
It almost looked like a Yankee it is a Yankee
home game. It's yeah, I.

Speaker 1 (07:58):
Mean this this place to answered the entire collapse by the.

Speaker 3 (08:01):
Men, But they're all confused too. Like the best is
there's the shot of Rodriguez once after he slides in,
he kind of stays down on one knee and he's
looking around like what the hell did I just do?
And behind him, in the sea of Yankee fans and
hats and jerseys, there's one guy. He's got a jacket on,
he's got the Mariner's cap on, he's got the T
shirt on. He just stands up and the arms get

(08:23):
extended and it's a read my lips kind of moment. Wow.

Speaker 1 (08:30):
The Chason Smith Show with Mike Carmon Live from the
tire rack dot Com studios. So look, we'll get to
the big NFL Bowl prediction coming up in the comments.
Wanted to bring you that story I mean this, this
video is insane. You've never seen anything like it in
a game. You just you shake your head and go
no as you're watching it.

Speaker 3 (08:47):
Yeah. One of our guys on Twitter, Craig, He goes,
I've tried to keep my composure lately. Am I allowed
to cry my eyes out with how the Mariners lost tonight?
Hashtag crying Craig hashtag emotional intelligens I'm like, yeah, you
got to let some of that energy out, man, dude,
that was terrible.

Speaker 1 (09:06):
But I will say this, Uh, the story we're gonna
do now leads into the big bold prediction for the NFL.
Okay good, yeah, yeah, Bryce Young, don't worry.

Speaker 3 (09:16):
I'm not gonna say Bryce.

Speaker 1 (09:18):
Uh. The story that just has way more legs than
I thought it would. Right, it's like a fly ball
at coors Field. Well, that's gonna be an out all
that's at the warning track. Oh no, it's gone like this.
Bryce Young being benched has had so many more legs
to the story than I expected. And today there were
two big twists to it. There was the Panthers saying

(09:39):
they're not gonna trade Bryce Young, and there was Baker Mayfield,
who knows a thing or two about being a number
one overall pick and then being kicked out of town, saying, hey,
the final chapter is not written for Bryce Young.

Speaker 4 (09:50):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (09:50):
He still has a lot of things to accomplish in
his career, and and and saying good things. See this
is where you say something good about a guy, not
with the end. Oh hey, Caleb, bladies, want to make
sure I tell you how bad you played and don't worry.
Look at this is when you say things about.

Speaker 3 (10:03):
It well, especially when you can put up a picture
of Baker Mayfield in a Carolina Panthers se I was
here too, man, Sam was here.

Speaker 1 (10:12):
Better for us?

Speaker 3 (10:13):
Now, look, it's better.

Speaker 5 (10:14):
For both of us.

Speaker 1 (10:14):
Now, it's great. But first thing is first, no, of
course they're not going to trade him. That's just stupid,
like like, because he's the number one overall pick in
the draft. They give him so much to get him,
he's got no value. He's got no value right now, right,
you're not going to trade him. He's going to see
the field again. He has to because you have to
make sure that he really isn't any good. And I

(10:36):
know that things look really bad for him now right.
His body language is awful. It doesn't like he knows
where he needs to go with the football. When when
he when he drops back to pass, when he gets
outside the tackles, which should be his his strength, he
doesn't know where to go with the football. Jason Cole
brought up a great point in that, you know, when
I see a quarterback looking small in the pocket like
like the and and he's got the body language when

(10:58):
he's out there to throw, I I know that things
aren't going well looking Bryce Young's not a big guy anyway,
but he just he just looks he's hunched over. He
doesn't look like he's in the right frame of mind.
And and I don't know that he can see in
the pocket. I know we can see downfield. He's gotta
they gotta take advantage of his strengths more. But of
course he's gonna play again because he kind.

Speaker 3 (11:18):
Of has to.

Speaker 1 (11:19):
You have to know for sure, all right, this is
a guy you gave up a lot due the number
one overall, you're not done given either. You gotta be
sure that he stinks. So he's gonna get in at
some point again. He's going to start again. You're gonna
rebuild his confidence. You're gonna give him more time with
the offense to understand how to do it, take advantage
of what he does well. If anything, you're going to

(11:40):
increase his trade value because if you stink and you're
one in sixteen, guess what, you're taking a quarterback and
you're trading Bryce Young. You want to be able to
get something for him. So if he comes back and
at least plays okay, all right, guess what, you can
maybe get something for it. You're not gonna get a lot,
but you will get something more than just hey, here's
a conditional six round pick or a fourth round pick.

(12:01):
Is we're taking him as a curiosity, like all of
a sudden, he's Trey Lance, you know, get getting dealt away.
So you know he's got to be back out there
for those two things, so to say, so, at least
I agree with Baker Mayfel on that point from the
perspective of no, his last chapter's not written because he's
gott to play this year, But is last chapter is
not going to be written because this is the best part.
This is what it means to be a high draft pick.

(12:21):
Is that when you're drafted number one, number two, number five,
top ten of the NFL drafts. A quarterback, you will
get multiple chances from teams to show that you can
or can't do it, because they always go back to
your pedigree. Hey, you were drafted this high for a reason.
We can fix you. We know what's going on, and
maybe you have to meander around and your career is

(12:41):
a little bit of Hey, you start trying to start here,
it didn't work. You were a bridge guy someplace else.
You were back up for a couple of years. Hey,
then it comes back to you when you're twenty eight,
twenty nine years old. Right, Look at Baker Mayfield, look
at Sam Darnold, look at Geno Smith. It happens for
these guys. Now, Hey, sometimes it's not the journey you
expect or I'm starting every year, but you will get
that opportunity because you were once highly sought after draft

(13:03):
pick Mayfield number one overall, Darnold number three overall. You
see it. For these guys, you get more chances. So, yeah,
that's a great piece of advice because Bryce Young's got
to know, this is the beginning of my journey. I
expected my journey to be. I'm here, I'm in Carolina.
We're gonna be great. I'm gonna be great. I'm gonna
have a soft drink line. I'm gonna have a shoe
company like Jerry Maguire soft drink clothing. Wehear, I know

(13:26):
the four jewels of the endorsement industry, Jerry. But it's
not gonna be that way. But it's just the beginning
of my career. I look at it like it's the
first job I've had out of college. I'm gonna have
other jobs the rest of my life in the next
one and this is the first one. So when you
think about it that way, yes, he's gonna continue to
get more chances. Drafted number one overall. Yeah, other teams

(13:47):
are gonna see him as some kind of solution, and
he will you another couple of chances to start if
it doesn't work out in Carolina.

Speaker 3 (13:53):
Yeah. As I was driving this morning bright and early,
heard a part of an interview with Matt ruhle answering
about you know, his team coaching blah blah blah, and
then he was asking about the Panthers. It was very good.
This was pr one oh one. You want to have
a coach that dances around a topic. I still have

(14:13):
a lot of friends from that organization. And you know
we want when we beat Colorado. I got a lot
of messages for this guy and that guy and that
guy over there, but I learned a lot and blah
blah blah, I go on down the line. But it
was just kind of funny because we're talking about organizations,
right you include those quarterbacks that you rattled off Jets
and Browns not known for organizational stability. Yours is getting there.

(14:37):
Cleveland looks to be on the right path for the
most part, not just a matter of the guy at
the top in terms of the quarterback position of whether
you solve it there. But for Bryce Young, there's plenty
of coordinators, slash head coaches, offensive guys, offensive guru's geniuses,
whatever tag you want to give them, that would love
nothing more than to prove that they could fix whatever

(14:57):
ales Bryce Young. If the Panthers did side, they were
done with him, right, Because there's so many quarterbacks right
now that you would say, yeah, I'd trade out my
starter for what's by in the box. I mean, like
you don't. You just don't think that it's taken you
to the promised land. And for Young, like you saw
the tapes time and time again, just the easy throws

(15:20):
that aren't getting made. Is a guy that was sacked
sixty two times. That doesn't leave you, right, Derek R.
David Carr never got comfortable after that first bludgeting he
took with the Texans going all the way back to
two thousand and two. Right. I mean, you look at
a guy that you were expecting a massive career and
he played for a long time. He's got a Super
Bowl ring, yeah right, whatever else, But you know, he

(15:42):
never seemed like he got past that first bludgeting. And
for Bryce Young, it's gonna take some time because this
offensive line's not much better.

Speaker 6 (15:48):
Yea.

Speaker 3 (15:49):
But let me go through the Panthers real quick. Cam
Newton sixty eight wins, Jake DeLoone fifty three wins. Next
on the metal Standanther's career wins, Steve Berline twenty three wins. Wow,
the number four, Kerry Collins, there you go, you mention, Yeah,

(16:09):
and number five he's tied with actually five is it's
a tie for fifth with two guys?

Speaker 1 (16:16):
Oh wow, Panthers.

Speaker 3 (16:21):
Oh that's part of the conversation. Chris Wanky.

Speaker 1 (16:25):
No, No, he went won in fifteen in that first
year he was and seventeen he won his first game
and then they lost like fifteen.

Speaker 3 (16:30):
In Arow tied for fifth with eight wins. Baker Mayfield,
Sam Darnold and Darnald and Rodney Pete our friend seven
because the Panthers started out three and oh with Darnald
that's okay, very and then you got Matt Moore, Kyle Allen,
Teddy Bridgeway, whatever. Just go on down the line. But

(16:50):
winning hasn't come come easy for this franchise and having
that owner and now he's down on the sideline tepper
that ain't helping anything either. Exit out about a Fresca
exit Swallen Dome.

Speaker 1 (17:02):

Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon. This
is where those see This is where those deep voices
come into play too.

Speaker 1 (19:44):
What kind of tequilo was that TI shirt?

Speaker 3 (19:47):
Ah? Nice? Yeah, I just gotta say to pull the
curtain back here really quick. Yeah, we have a scot like.

Speaker 1 (19:57):
I don't know what happened, but in the last two
days is people have started decorating this Fox Sports Radio
area where with different types of skulls. There's this in
the bathroom is a sea through skull soap dispenser? And
when I walked in, I didn't know if it was
a skull or if it.

Speaker 3 (20:16):
Was gin, because you know, it's like one of those
sea through things like dan Aykroyd. Is this vodka that
they've got? Is this some kind of gin? Or is
this soap? And I pushed out, Oh it's soap. So
I don't know. Now if you pushed it down and
it serves you gin, that would be kind of interesting. Yeah,
it would have been. I would have said, hey, why
is he licking his hand. What's going on?

Speaker 1 (20:38):
What every time he washes his hands and get more sticky,
I don't understand. He also comes out a bit alternate. Understand,
my hands are all sticky. It's that it's that the
dead guy gin or whatever whatever that Ryan Reynolds is
probably not going on.

Speaker 3 (20:54):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (20:55):
But how about we give you a Big Bowl prediction? Right,
it's good Now you spent some time to think about
it the last few minutes. A player we mentioned in
the last few minutes, like you this bolt prediction is
gonna be the NFL MVP this year. And the answer
is Baker Mayfield. Look at you now, I'm gonna lay
out the case and you're gonna understand why. It's all

(21:17):
right there for him kind of under the radar last year,
but he's turned into the best version of himself he's
been since he came into the NFL. He was terrific
with the Bucks last year.

Speaker 3 (21:28):
And his.

Speaker 1 (21:31):
Swagger talent fits what the Bucks want to do offensively.
Not only that he's their best player offensively, he was
able to thirty touchdowns last year. He's off to a
big start this year. He leads the league in quarterback
raiding and touchdown passes. Along with Derek Carr. He has
the narrative to go and win this because no matter

(21:52):
what the Bucks do, he is responsible for all their offense.
They don't run the football very well. Rashad White is
a volume guy and he's hurt. Bucky Irving suddenly isn't
gonna run the football twenty five times a game. They
are dependent on Mayfield for their offense. Right Godwin has
continued to extend his career as an elite receiver. Mike

(22:12):
Evans is gonna be fifty years old still catching passes.
Last week, touchdown running, touchdown receiving against the lines.

Speaker 3 (22:19):
They pull the big upset on the road.

Speaker 1 (22:21):
I told you the beginning of the year, the Bucks
and the Rams in the NFC Championship game. Boy, the
Rams injuries, they may not be able to finish the season.
But the Bucks right now, you would say the Bucks
or the Saints are the best team in the NFC.
And I don't believe in the Saints nearly as much
as I believe in the Bucks because the Bucks are loaded.
It's a it's a bad division. The offense gets a

(22:42):
lot of points, and he's gonna and he's still dynamic.
Baker Mayfield. He's a thirty plus touchdown guy. The defensive
line is really good. They get after the passer running game.
The Bucks are going to win. They're gonna win big,
and that's gonna be the narrative. Hey, here's the best
team in the NFC, and here's the redemption story of
Baker Mayfield. Right, part of it is narrative. I'm not

(23:02):
gonna say it's not, but part of it is a narrative.
Here's Baker Mayfield, former number one overall pick, finds his
way out of favor with the team that picks him,
goes to another team. Potentially he was a savior there
was not, goes to another team that has to fight
for the starting quarterback job, and all of a sudden,
hey we found something. He's thirty years old and now look,
Baker Mayfield is the best he's ever been. And when

(23:22):
you throw in everything else we've seen so far in
the NFL, it's a down weird year so far. Right, Like,
look at some of the quarterbacks who are not having
great years. Mahomes is not is off to the same
kind of start he had a year ago. Joe Burrow
is struggling. Josh Allen may be good, they may wind
up losing games. This is a very difficult season to say, Okay,

(23:48):
here are the couple of guys that are at the
top of the list, and here's who you have to
overcome because they're just gonna put up all kinds of
crazy numbers. Right, brock Perty already is struggling. Right, You're
seeing a lot of Aaron Rodgers. He gonna throw for
forty touchdowns. No, still kind of getting his mojo back
after being out for a whole year. There's so many
questions across the board from teams, and you know a
quarterback is gonna win it. Baker Mayfield has a chance

(24:10):
to seize the narrative, to seize the opening best team
in the NFC. He's the best player putting touchdowns on
the board a thirty plus touchdown year. Baker Mayfield NFL MVP.

Speaker 3 (24:21):
Odds shortened from Mahomes this last week. I think some
of it being it's gonna come down to him making
plays that's going to get them over right. So even
if it's the been there, done that that, people are like,
all right, I'll dance with who brung me and take
the short odds. So he's currently at three to one
after opening at five to one. Josh Allen right behind him. CJ.

(24:43):
Stroud A your guy, Baker Mayfield right now tied for
about tenth and he's at thirty to one, started at
sixty six to one. Yeah, get ready. I'm like another
guy there, and I know we've got some bigger stuff
on this team as the week goes on. But he's
a guy that I've tried to hype for years. I

(25:03):
think he's a better player than he's given credit for.
And there's been a lot the last forty eight hours
of people shouting and screaming about you know, the other narratives,
and it comes down to, like the video games and
everything else, it's Skyler Murray and what the Cardinals can
become so long as James Connor can stay upright right.
We saw the breakout from Marvin Harrison Junior after a

(25:24):
short quiet week one, an early drop and then kind
of phased out and was there unrest like, No, hit
him with a big play and with the looks legit.

Speaker 1 (25:34):
And I'll tell you even if something happens to James Connor,
they drafted Trade Benson for a reason.

Speaker 3 (25:38):
No that's it, you know, and in the end with
your rams falling apart one by one. No, it's more
than that. It's like it's like five by five. A
couple of guys to we're still trying to hold out
hope that they can keep Cooper cupping or either that
or have they maxed out on ir position? Guy, it's
a fantasy squad. They can't actually not I are a time,

(26:01):
but I want to keep them all. You have five
positions get rid of somebody. Feels like a fantasy thing
going on there. But and then Seattle is a curious
squad as Jackson Smith and Jigma comes up for your
guy Gino Smith. So that's fun. But what do you
have ninety four targets last week in the game coming
keep going man with Tyler Lockett still a little bit
banged up, opportunity Doff Knock and Kenneth Walker being banged

(26:25):
up and maybe not as much trust on Charboney get
the short and intermediate game to where Smith and Jigma
gets more involved in the game. But Dak Prescott, I
mean week one, we watched a big win by the Cowboys.
What was it? It was a field goal right field
goal kicking contest. So as much as that win was
kind of fun after the contract and Jerry and Tom

(26:47):
Brady and everybody down on the field yucking it up,
didn't put up huge numbers Lamar Zoo and two Rogers.

Speaker 1 (26:54):
No, you still know who's standing out saying, hey this guy.
Look the look the Bills have won both their games
are But is Josh Allen gonna have that kind of year?

Speaker 3 (27:02):
Are they going to run the football a hell of
a lot more than they normally? Joe Burrows Owen too, Yeah,
I mean he's he's still the fifth favorite behind Jalen Hurts.
All the play Just Derek Carr the Chargers are Yeah,
and Herbert's not throwing the ball. Derek Carr is not
Herbert misspracticed today.

Speaker 1 (27:22):
Yeah, right, I mean, look, it's it's it's there for
Baker Mayfield, He's following up an elite year with what
looks to be another elite.

Speaker 3 (27:29):
Year on a really good team. He's got everything, He's
got everything you could possibly want. Redemption, he gets his
revenge on all the media members that he always was fighting. Blank.
Does he reinstall all the social media apps so you
can go at.

Speaker 1 (27:43):
Him at the end of it? No, he's got to
like me because of the picture of a trophy. He
went at it with me about five years ago. He
was upset and I turned out to be right, So
that's okay. But now he's got to come back to
me because Hey, I started the Baker Mayfield MVP run.
He's gonna be the MVP in the NFL.

Speaker 3 (27:58):
Look at that. So is it like the Super Bowl
rings were still waiting on for the Rams. Do you
get some kind of share of the MVP that you
spurn him on the great half of behaves you off
a little bit? I keep having. You're like Dad's like
a meat slicer, Like he's Cramer.

Speaker 1 (28:17):
Exit out, bout of Fresco, Exit swallow down the Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Carbon just like
Baker Mayfield NFL MVP, who would have just keep going?
Jordan Love is hurt. Hopefully play Sunday. We don't know
like I did. There's nobody but a quarterback's gonna win.
And who's having There's nobody.

Speaker 3 (28:34):
Here's another example, I mean, another opportunity for Baker Mayfield.
This week. They've got Denver. Yeah, you can go put
up some points there because the defense should be able
to get after bo Nixon company. Watch out.

Speaker 1 (28:46):
Uh Now the guy you gotta watch out for, Oh yeah,
you always do, Ryan Finley, because he has watched trendy.
He's crafty in the wide world of sports. You gotta
watch out for me.

Speaker 3 (28:56):
I like that.

Speaker 5 (28:57):
Hey, might have to add that to the lead up
music here that we have anytime I'm on.

Speaker 3 (29:02):
And watch out for friendly. Why I'm just telling you.

Speaker 5 (29:05):
Yeah, yeah, hey, hey, hey, Tom, you are always on
and a man who is always caffeinated even when he's
not kind. I'll leave that right there.

Speaker 3 (29:18):
There's a new sheriff in town.

Speaker 5 (29:23):
Oh Tyshert. He always brings the good drops.

Speaker 3 (29:26):
Hey.

Speaker 5 (29:26):
Our last major League baseball game just ended in the
Yankees one two to one against the Mariners. That assures
the Yanks at spot in the postseason, so they clinched
a spot. And there were some EM's base running booboos
at the end of that game that Jason and Mike
were talking about if you were listening earlier in the
hour on the program. Also, the Cardinals over the Pirates

(29:46):
ten to five. The Brewers etch out of two to
one went against the Phillies before the game even started.
The Brewers knew today that they had won the NL
Central thanks in part to their friends, the Chicago Cubs
losing to the Oaklada's five to three Tigers over the
Royals four to two. That is significant because the Tigers
are just a half game out of that third and
final AL wild card position. Who saw that coming? Who

(30:10):
saw the Mets winning another game? Yeah? I couldn't believe
it myself. Ten nothing. Okay, that's an editorialism at all.

Speaker 1 (30:18):
We're playing the Nationals. Come on, man, you had to
see it coming a little bit.

Speaker 5 (30:21):
That is true.

Speaker 3 (30:22):
That was the most newsman updated you've ever get.

Speaker 1 (30:25):
The Nationals have won since they won the World Series,
the Nationals have won six games.

Speaker 3 (30:30):
Okay, just so you know.

Speaker 5 (30:32):
Yeah, that's perfect math. I totally agree with you.

Speaker 3 (30:35):
I thought the line would go over better. Okay, I
do too.

Speaker 5 (30:37):
Yeah, yeah, that's pretty good.

Speaker 3 (30:40):
You bollied it like you were. You know, it was
a good tennis serve that. It's a pretty good line.

Speaker 5 (30:44):
But okay, you might have double faulted there, that's all right, No, no, no,
that's all right.

Speaker 3 (30:49):
I mean there was no return. That was an ace.

Speaker 5 (30:51):
It was an ace right between the wickets. Ten and nothing.
Sport different sports sport Mets over the Nationals ten and nothing.
The Mets are tied with the Diamondbacks for second in
the NL wildcard spot, which is first place held by
the Padres. They have a two and a half game
lead over the Diamondbacks and the Mets Padres went forward
to nothing against the Astros. Dodgers win eight to four

(31:12):
against the Marlin Choeyotani stealing his forty ninth.

Speaker 3 (31:16):
Base of the year.

Speaker 5 (31:17):
One more, He's gonna get fifty, and then he needs
two more home runs. They get to fifty as well,
So in that pursuit of the fifty to fifty, something
that's never been achieaved before in Major League Baseball history.
That is where Otani stands as of now. Braves over
the Red seven to one. The Orioles taken ail to
the forehead five to three versus the Giants. Orioles are

(31:37):
first in the AL wildcard picture. The Yankees are first
in the Al East. The White Sox, I don't even
know where they are, but all the way at the bottom,
like in the Marianna's trench of the Yeah, yeah, I tried.
That was pretty good.

Speaker 3 (31:52):
It's just one Mariana. Mariana trench. Oh just not no, no, okay,
I tried to double up. There's not three marianas.

Speaker 2 (31:58):
Do you want to take one of those little down there?

Speaker 3 (32:01):
And whoa, whoa too soon?

Speaker 5 (32:03):
Okay, too soon, too soon, four to three angels over
the White Sox. In the meantime, let's get it back
over to two guys. If I'm in a submarine, I
want them driving Jason Smith, Mike Harmon, and I'll have
the periscope.

Speaker 1 (32:19):
The world will tremble at the shound of our rockets,
like tremble now, they'll tremble at the shound of our silence.

Speaker 3 (32:25):
I'll take shorts for five hundred. I don't know.

Speaker 1 (32:29):
It's my showing, Connery. I kind of feel like it
sounds better than it actually is.

Speaker 3 (32:33):
Now you gotta work on it. It's okay. Well, we
got plenty of time. The world would tremble at the
shound of our rockets. I mean, you can do some
bond you could do that, you could do you know
his Indiana Jones, you know little Henry Jones. Well, I
was trying to do Hunter Redrocks. Oh, I know you
don't sound Russian, you idiot. You've killed dds Oh crap
or you go finding Forrest. My bet you're the man

(32:55):
now dog.

Speaker 1 (32:58):
I never saw that movie, but I know the line
is from that movie because that was the only thing
that was in the trailer. I enjoyed that only find
They find Forest and he found himself.

Speaker 3 (33:10):
Okay, what was better finding Forrester or searching for Bobby
Fisher finding Forrest? Okay? Because they found Forrester.

Speaker 1 (33:16):
It's also also felt Bobby Fisher also sports movie basketball
greater than chess.

Speaker 3 (33:22):
I don't know. Ch Chess is a you know, still
a sport, but it ranks below basket. Well yeah, on
the show.

Speaker 1 (33:29):
Yeah, we just has anna pack one in it too. Well,
Dad had Anya Taylor Joy in the not squid Game.

Speaker 3 (33:37):
No no, no, no, no no, Queen's gambit, Queen's gambit
and Queen's gambit. That's squeak. That escalated quickly. Are you
sure you want to be on the show? Why?

Speaker 1 (33:47):
Well, you can't get agers with her and the menu?

Speaker 3 (33:50):
Or what do we doing?

Speaker 1 (33:52):
Exit out about a fresco exit Swallow down the Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Carbon one of
those nights coming up next, Final thoughts out of the NFL,
and we'll give you our predictions for Thursday Night football
as we steam into Week three with the j e
Ts Jets, Jets Jets and the New England Patriots. I

(34:13):

but I'll tell you the guy everybody's gonna be talking
about after.

Speaker 3 (34:19):
That's what we'll do next, Jason and Mike Fox.

Speaker 2 (34:21):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific, Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (34:30):
The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon.
I'm a little surprised today. I'm a little surprised. On
National Cheeseburger Day three hours ago, I said, hey, if
someone wants to buy I wants to fly, I'll buy
National Cheeseburger.

Speaker 3 (34:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (34:46):
Hey, we had all these deals going on to McDonald's
everything else, and nobody wanted to go.

Speaker 3 (34:50):
I han't like anything from McDonald's. Like, nobody was being
forced to actually eat a cheeseburger. So if you were
psychologically philosophically opposed to cheesebroak, that should not have precluded
you from jumping in on the action. No, you could
have gotten you could have gotten chicken McNuggets.

Speaker 1 (35:06):
You could have just gotten ay, or you'd decide, well,
National Cheeseburger Day, I should get a cheeseburger.

Speaker 3 (35:11):
Yeah you should. It's like going to Red Lobster in site.
I'm gonna have the steak. No, you should get lost.

Speaker 1 (35:16):
Oh, by the way, congratulations Flavor Somewhere we're solvent again.

Speaker 3 (35:21):
Yeah, they got out of chat for eleven chedd Baby Biscuits,
Chedder Baby biskeets Red Lobster. Let's go, hey man rising
from the ashes like a phoenix led by Flavor Flaves
who knew.

Speaker 1 (35:37):
So we now get set for week three of the NFL. Yes,
already we're in Week three?

Speaker 3 (35:43):
Scary how fast it turn?

Speaker 1 (35:45):
Jets and the Patriots tomorrow night on Amazon. I assume
al Michaels is somewhat excited about this game gets to
announce an.

Speaker 3 (35:52):
Aaron Rodgers game. Has gotten to do that yet for Amazon.
If nothing else, he's got a lot of quips and
quotes ready for Aaron.

Speaker 1 (35:59):
He's ready. First of all, I'll tell you this, I
like the under for this game. I know there's not
a lot of points thirty eight and a half. You're
gonna sweat it out right, but this has This has
twenty three thirteen Jets written all over it for me,
because so you're taking them, I'm taking them to cover
six and a half and I'm taking the under.

Speaker 3 (36:19):
You'll sweat the under. Yeah, not inside that key number
is you know, a little bit of a danger zone.

Speaker 1 (36:23):
But yeah, you're talking about the home opener for the
Jets and renewed excitement coming off the win on Sunday.
I can't see the Patriots offense really doing anything against
the Jets. This is not Bill Belichick, where Hey, whatever
you think we're gonna do, we're gonna do something different.
That's what it was for almost twenty years. I can't
see them. They're not dynamic. It's hard for me to

(36:45):
see them scoring thirteen. But you know it's the Jets,
so I figure somehow it could happen.

Speaker 3 (36:50):
Right.

Speaker 1 (36:50):
I watched Sauce Gardener give up two catches last week.
I'm thinking, oh, my goodness, that can actually happen. So
I can't see them really doing anything.

Speaker 3 (36:57):
How long do those catches go for? I saw some
great guys getting graded out, and they were graded badly.
It's like he gave him two catches on three targets. Yeah,
how many yards seven Yeah, no, no, there were long
one was a touchdown. Yeah, the one that that I
know somehow Calvin Ridley caught that, but he got two catches.
I felt like, oh, saws on a bad game. But
it's like he's only given up now like seven in

(37:17):
the last ten games. But yeah, But just the point
being that, you know, when we get into all the
grading of stuff, it gets to be a joke to so.

Speaker 1 (37:26):
Defensively, I can't see the Patriots really mustering a lot.
Even even though the Jets are banged up a little
bit defensively, their defense is still good enough. Like Will
McDonald who was a first round bust last year, I
had three sacks. No Jermaine Johnson, but he was playing.
The Jets defense is going to be fine Offensively. Aaron
Rodgers will look a lot like he did last week.
He's still gonna need a few more games to get

(37:48):
back to seeing if how close he is to being
the Aaron Rodgers of two years ago. Uh, and you
saw spurts of it on Sunday. I don't know if
he can throw it deep. He still looks a little
uh jumpy in the pocket. Wanted to get rid of
the ball early but tomorrow night they are going to
lean on two players, Breise Hall and Braylan Allen. And

(38:10):
by the time tomorrow's game is over, everybody's gonna know
the name Braylan Allen. Now, if you'd play fantasy, you
know last week you had a big game yet two
touchdowns for the Jets. He's the youngest player in the league.
He's twenty years old and he's six one. Let's go
to this guy. He's like Derrick Henry.

Speaker 3 (38:26):
Because he can get after it too, right. I mean
that speed to the outside. You saw him get to
the to the edge. I'm telling you, who wants any
part of that? You know, they talked about him during
the summer, but it's like, okay, you got to really
see him when when the football flies for real. They
got something with this guy. You know, I saw a
lot of comparisons to the way they wanted to use
Sean Green all those years ago, and then all of
a sudden he was in the mix a lot early

(38:46):
and that it's been a number of backs who've come
in since but never found the field until late in
the season. That for this iteration of the Jets, while
they get Rogers comfortable and he gets comfortable with what
he can do physically, that you get the two headed monster.

Speaker 1 (39:03):
And you're gonna and you're not and you're not gonna
have to worry about overloading Breis Hall because look, Braylan
Allen is a load. And I'm telling you every if
he's no fantasy saw, you're gonna see them, right. They
are gonna sledge hammer the Patriots with both of them.
Twenty sixteen fantastics. Wow, you're taking the Patriots and the points? Yeah,
all right, couple of three Joey sly Field goals. He's

(39:24):
only he's only got one, all right, he's only got
one this year? Right, No, no, no, no, he's only
got one attempt over four attempt oh for one, okay,
he's oh for one.

Speaker 3 (39:35):
For he's got five five makes okay, all right, one
attempt over forty. He hasn't gotten into the fifty yard
club like all these other guys thirty five and thirty seven.
That's just a tucker, Yeah, exactly, that's the that guy
used to be automatic. And now that's the margin of
winning and losing for the Ravens, how about that. But
for the Patriots, Stevenson quitting himself, Well, Jacoby Brissett isn't

(39:57):
gonna turn the ball over, isn't gonna wow you with
flash plays, although Polk and some of the wideouts giving
you a little bit more on Hunter. Henry while he's healthy,
is going to be able to move the chains and
solid in the red zone. It's where the Jets stiffen
up and for said field goals. So we get to
the under at twenty to sixteen. It's a slog. It

(40:18):
is not gonna be aesthetically pleasing unless you like smash
mole football, because both teams are gonna be content to run.

Speaker 1 (40:24):
Yeah no, and look it's a Thursday. It's gonna be
a weird game anyway. You don't normally see a lot
of points, but I get the thirty nine thirty eight.

Speaker 3 (40:32):
That's a very low number of points, but that's kind
of how it's gonna go. You saw many last week
we had on the board that were under forty. Yeah,
we had a five games five games under forty like
seven under forty two or something like that.

Speaker 1 (40:46):
If this was a game the Jets were I if
Aaron Rodgers was in like week eight, I woulds okay
more points because by that time he'll he'll start getting
back to well closest.

Speaker 3 (40:55):
They'll either be there or they won't. It's really by then,
you'll know.

Speaker 1 (40:59):
By then the like then he'll be at that level.
But right now where he's still figuring it out, and
the and the Patriot's still figuring it out. I mean,
it's weird. It's gonna be tough. I'd be the most
surprised guy in the world if suddenly we're in a
barn burning tomorrow night, fourteen fourteen here at the end
of the first quarter, knuck up.

Speaker 3 (41:15):
Either way, we'll be here to cover it all for
you here Fox Sports Radio Live and Die a little
bit with Smith on the toy. I'm more than a
little bit. No one will ride the line. There's no question.
We'll have a guy with a flaming guitar in the
corner and away we.
