Speaker 1 (00:28):
Greetings and welcome in said it is a glorious final
hour of the show tonight, The Jason Smith Show with
my best friend Mike Harmon.
Speaker 3 (00:38):

the sugar, the Mats, tell the Mets come, let's realize.

Speaker 3 (01:04):
A glory, It's a glorious night, A glorious, glorious night.
Telling you m not happy? See I appreciate your happiness. Yeah, Well,
look it was a great knight, perfect free season for
the Bears.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
Look, it's a great look, a great night. And look,
hey dude, you have no problems. Man, the Bears are terrific.
You're awful on hard Knocks. It's the worst hard knocks ever.
It's so unbelievably boring. Nobody is watching, no one is
talking about it. It's terrible, but it doesn't matter because
your team is good. I would trade a really bad
(01:38):
Hard Knocks for this. And maybe this is something that
maybe the Bears are saying, Hey, we're playing chess.
Speaker 3 (01:42):
Everybody else playing checkers.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
We're purposefully being this bad so they'll never call us again.
We're never gonna do hard knocks after this.
Speaker 3 (01:50):
I told you it's a final. This is a great
strategy of Look, we're not gonna let anybody curse because
you know, we're at a deference to the McCaskey. And
there's been some really great of the faux reporter accounts going. Oh.
They had a scene from Hard Knocks that had to
be cut where Caleb Williams was cursing and telling all
(02:10):
sorts of really bad off color jokes when one of
the mccaskey's walked by craziness, and he was all apologetic,
like no, no, no, look look for the extra characters or
the other things along the way. But yeah, to the
point where it is beyond boring. So the Giants and
(02:31):
the Bears were the two holdouts where it's like old
school original squads, leave us the hell alone, and they
both had to do it this year, all the rules
and whatever else. Giants kind of ass backwards, gave us
some great content. I don't think any of it was purposeful,
or maybe it was. Again, we'll succeed in spite of
(02:53):
our seeming ineptitude, so you'll underestimate us. And for the Bears,
it's just we're gonna be boring as hell, so you
leave us alone and never traverse our hallways again. I
like it. Good strategies can't fault a good strategy, one
of the tenants of the show for a long long time.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
Before we get to Steph Curry, just a little bit
on this right here, because I am I the only
one speaking of boring? Am I the only one who
thinks this big Johan Dotson trade was a nothing burger today?
This guy's so, I mean, just because it's a trade,
I understand it's like wow, like like like John Dotson
was supposed to have a breakout last year and boy
he was like he was like persona non grata the
(03:31):
last half of the season. He had a big week
against Philadelphia when you thought, okay, now here's the breakout.
Speaker 3 (03:36):
Right, two weeks in a row, he's had a bunch
of targets.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
But like people are treating this and in the way
this report is here, like, oh, look out for the Eagles,
Like how many passes the guy really going to catch?
Speaker 3 (03:49):
You have two incredibly good.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
Wide receivers all but he's taking the pressure off and
no one can cover all three of these guys. Dude,
I'm pretty sure a lot of people can cover Dotson.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
I am, you know, not not not that I'm at
coordinator tell you I got Dotson over here, but I am.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
I am pretty sure that Dodson is coverable by your
slot corner.
Speaker 3 (04:07):
I am pretty sure.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
You know. I know this because I watched him play
and I've watched him catch forty nine passes last year.
Speaker 3 (04:12):
Like he's not that he was a breakout guy.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
Like we think every wide receiver is gonna break out
because it's the age of the wide receiver in the NFL,
and I thought he was okay going in year two.
He was a guy I wanted to trade foreign fantasy.
I thought he's gonna wind up being the number one
wide receiver in Washington. And he's a guy like I get.
The Eagles weren't happy with who their third wide receiver was.
You saw some of the names they were throwing out there.
I think Harold Carmichael was.
Speaker 3 (04:36):
In ketching Grant Lewis, come on, yeah, you're Graig Lewis.
Speaker 4 (04:40):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
And so you know, you go for a name because
Dotson was a guy drafted with a pretty decently high pedigree.
But like like all of a sudden, like he's not
turning them into back into the offense they were a
year ago. Like he's he's coverable. AJ Brown not coverable,
not easy, DeVante Smith not easy to cover. Uh John Dotson,
Yeah he's coverable. So yeah, you got a better name
(05:01):
and maybe a little bit better guy for you your
slot receiver here. But this is not one of those
Hey suddenly, Hey we're gonna win the NFC East. We're
gonna go fourteen and three moves Like okay, let's kind
of let's kind of temper the expectation with this dealer.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
This is kind of a nothing burger now, for what
it's worth. I understand he led the league in interception
and he's off to Seattle. But Sam Howell had no
consciences with slinging the ball around right, So by accident,
shouldn't you catch more than forty nine of the eighty
three passes that are thrown your way? You would think
for better than an average of ten point six yards
per catch. This is not gonna be a game breaking thing. Now,
(05:37):
They've got a lot of weapons, and I think part
of it is we're in the heat of fantasy draft season,
so it becomes a where can I find a guy
that suddenly has a fit that gets me all excited?
And maybe you want to get on board anything Philadelphia related,
I get it, But I just go back to Jurassic Park.
Obviously changing the surname slightly. It's Dodson. Nobody cares if
(06:01):
I asked you, just don't look. Don't look. How many
passes did he catch the second half of the season.
How many in the final eight games of the season.
How many passes did he catch? I just know what
he had before because I wrote it down. It was
forty nine for the year. Cheet, Yeah, forty nine for
the year. No, no, no, But for the year. That's
just show prep of stories that we gotta do. Okay, okay,
(06:24):
but that break. Oh, I don't know, maybe a fourth
a fifth, So give me, So give me a fifth
of forty nine. Like what kind of math you're doing?
What did you know? What this show is?
Speaker 1 (06:36):
Like?
Speaker 3 (06:36):
You can't just say a fifth of forty nine and
not give me a number. No one knows how to
do that math. After ten o'clock, I can talk about
the Fifth's all I want.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
Okay, give me a fifth half forty I got a
five tests, ten receptions. It actually was pretty easy when
you round up to fifty. No, he actually you understold
it a little bit. He caught seventeen passes in his
last eight games. In his last eight games. I'm not
even two hundred, right, I mean I brought one hundred
(07:06):
and sixty one hundred and sixty seventeen's recently a hot.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
Route three steps and fall down or get tackled. I
don't want to look. A catch is a catch, and
look everyone is one more than I'll ever achieve at
any level of meaning outside of the Sandlot. But it
still just comes back to the Yeah, there were so
many glowing things because is it now a reclamation thing.
(07:32):
Everybody got their their hate out on Sirianni and the Eagles,
so now they want to jump on back and get
back into the good graces. So this is you know
Howie Roseman's gonna love us or they're setting the table
for whatever access they'll need when Bill Belichick becomes the coach.
I mean, what are we doing here? I want to
do it here. You just rode for three weeks of
(07:53):
all the animosity and anger and how these guys don't
get along. But you know what this one and showing
up this is the one that's taken that offense next level.
Let me tell you exit.
Speaker 1 (08:07):
I'bout a Fresco exit, swollen down the Jason Smithson with
Mike Carmon Live the Tirack dot Com Studios. Uh now,
we told you about a hot take coming for Steph
Curry and it's gonna seem hot, but you're gonna agree with.
Speaker 3 (08:20):
Me, which is kind of like, all my oh, Jason,
that's a hot take. But oh but I agree with you.
You're gonna ask where he ranked a little bit of
shooting guards of all time. Ain't a poy card uh
And this comes to his courtesy of kind of it
not a fake story, but not a not a real story.
In updating his.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
Instagram page, Steph Curry updated the fact that he's now
at Olympic champion. So updating his bio page, he always
says Steph Curry a husband, father, husband of Aisha Curry,
Olympic gold medalist.
Speaker 3 (08:49):
Like I put that on there too, especially with the
way I.
Speaker 1 (08:51):
Shot the ball the final two minutes when I said,
give me the ball, I'll get us the gold bleeping medal.
Speaker 3 (08:55):
So he put it on say Jesus, yeah, exactly, I'm
gotting Usa, Jesus. So well, he puts that up there.
Speaker 1 (09:01):
But then at some point I'm sure realized, oh, I
excised Warriors from my bio.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
Now. When it was up there, however long it was
there for, people saw it, and there was a lot
of on social media woe Steph didn't mention the Warriors.
What's happening? What's going on?
Speaker 1 (09:16):
And then shortly after Steph put the Golden State Warriors
back in his bio. Look, certain players, yes, when they
unfollow a team on social media, it's Ah, I'm gonna
get even with you. You pissed me off, not give
me a new contract. I'm gonna not mention you on
my social media page. Okay, great, knock yourself out.
Speaker 3 (09:34):
Now. Steph's not that kind of guy.
Speaker 1 (09:36):
I'm sure he either didn't think about putting Warriors in
and wanted to put that in, and someone probably told him, hey, dude,
you realize people are gonna know your page. You took
Warriors off it, someone's gonna say something.
Speaker 3 (09:47):
No big deal, I'll put Warriors back on turning they've
since been fired.
Speaker 1 (09:51):
Yeah, he's not upset with the Warriors. Yeah, Steph Curry
calls a kid in and he does the ninety night thing. Hey,
what does that mean? It means you're fired ninety night.
You screwed up my page. Word fired.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
Ninety night.
Speaker 1 (10:03):
This means you're gone ninety night, night night. So he
changes and now it's back and everything is fine. It's
Steph Man with the Warriors, of course, not that's his home.
This is where he's been playing his entire career, obviously.
Speaker 3 (10:15):
But he's just good graces with Steve Kirk because he's time,
because he won, because he won the gold medal after
a bunch of turnovers already. When France cut it to five,
he said, give me the ball, give me the ball.
I got this.
Speaker 1 (10:30):
So but here's the here's where the hot take comes in.
Steph should leave. He should leave if he wants to
win a title again. And this is where you're at.
If you're Steph Curry, you are still an All NBA
level type player. You're still about there. Maybe you have
two or three years left of this level. But look
you're slowing down right, And and we know this because
(10:52):
this is just how it works. You're not gonna win again.
The dynasty is over. Since winning three years ago, every
year is gone. And worse, they barely make the playoffs.
They're barely a five hundred team. The dynasty is done.
Klay Thompson is gone. Draymond Green is much more interested
in what he says on his podcast or on television
than he is and what he does on the court. Right,
it's over. No one's coming to play in Golden State
(11:15):
because the dynasty is over. Right, It's not like Steph
Curry is twenty seven and Draymond is twenty like, Hey,
I'll come there to play.
Speaker 3 (11:24):
I can win. I like playing with Steph. He's an
unassuming superstar. I can fit right in there. No, it's over.
Speaker 1 (11:30):
No one goes to a place to join up where
they think, hey, maybe we can win again. No, that's
not how it works in the NBA, Steph being thirty five,
thirty six, you have to go somewhere else because I'll
tell you what. The Warriors are not bringing this dynasty back.
Speaker 3 (11:46):
You hit it. You had an unbelievable run, a place
in sports history, four titles, it's amazing.
Speaker 1 (11:51):
But look all these things end, and it's not gonna
suddenly just flip for the Warriors this year. The West
is loaded, they barely get in. They're not gonna add
players that are just gonna make Steph find the fountain
of youth or turn the Warriors back into a team
that's a top three threat in the Western Conference if
he wants to win again and he's got a way.
Do I want to be a one town, one sports star.
Speaker 3 (12:13):
For my career?
Speaker 1 (12:14):
Which is incredibly rare that you know people we celebrate
guys like cal Ripkin and or do I leave because
everybody kind of leaves.
Speaker 3 (12:22):
Peyton Manning left, Tom Brady left, everybody leaves.
Speaker 1 (12:26):
This is my chance to go to a contender to
win a championship, he kind of has to go, and
it kind of has to be something that happens, and
it's probably too late to happen this year, but this
has to be a conversation next offseason where we get
the heartstrings and Steph is thinking about this and thinking
over if he wants to stay in Golden State after
another lackluster year and where he's scoring thirty three empty
(12:50):
points a night because the Warriors are winning forty.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
Two games and that's it. Yes, we can go through
that whole storyline to Steph wan out. Does he not?
Does he want to trade? Does he not? Does he
want to be a one town guy?
Speaker 1 (13:01):
Does he want to make sure when he does get traded,
nobody hates him and he still has a great reputation,
which that's not gonna happen. He's always gonna be loved
at Golden State, But that's gotta happen if he wants
to win, because if he doesn't win, his next few
years are gonna be Hey, look at him still scoring
all these points and look at the Warriors barely making
him the playing round, Right, He's got to go someplace
else to a team where he fits being a point guard,
(13:24):
shooting guard, whatever it's going to be, where he can
still score his thirty points, and that team is young
enough and deep enough to win a championship.
Speaker 3 (13:33):
The answer is not the Lakers don't think so. Oh,
but they were great in the Olympics.
Speaker 1 (13:37):
Of course they were great in the Olympics. It's the
middle of the offseason. Lebron is fresh, KD is fresh,
and Steph is fresh. They're all over thirty five. Yeah,
they can play well for two weeks where they play
every other day and they play twenty five minutes a night.
Speaker 3 (13:52):
But you can do it. They win the mid season
Tournament or whatever the hell they're calling it now in
season ist. Come on, buddy, is t If you win
the I according to the consulting firm of Smith and Harmon,
you get an automatic bid into the playoffs. So you
know you only need them for the two weeks.
Speaker 1 (14:11):
He's gotta ask out and this, I'll tell you. This
should be a conversation and a storyline we follow next offseason,
and it should be something we followed during the season.
If the Warriors are bad, not that they would trade
him at the deadline. This is gonna be something that suddenly, oh, hey,
I'll go here and try to jump for a championship.
But it's gonna be where do I go. I don't
want to be someone who jumps team to team, Like,
(14:33):
where's my destination for the next three years where I
have a great chance to win a championship?
Speaker 3 (14:39):
Right? And it's not the Lakers, right, obviously it's not.
They're too old. They're just trying to figure out how
to get a six seed? Right, They're not. Is it Denver?
Is it Minnesota? Is it Boston? Is it the Knicks?
Speaker 1 (14:49):
Is it these young teams that are missing a steph
Curry from being able to do it? And any team
would want him, and any team would give a great
number of players to the Warriors where they can maybe
start their next iteration of the team anew But he's
gotta make that decision. And it's really very simple. Do
you want to win or do you want to put
up numbers and be a one town guy? And I'm
(15:10):
pretty sure that seeing him play, he wanted that gold medal. Yes,
he's never had a gold medal, but he still has
that fire to win. And another year or another half
a season of the Warriors, being under five hundred and
not winning and getting drubbed and him scoring thirty points. Yeah,
he's gonna start thinking about that, and I'll tell you
this is gonna wind up being a storyline the next offseason.
Speaker 3 (15:34):
If he wants to win, he's gotta go. Yeah, he
still got screwed out of the the whole MVP thing
in the Olympics. Sorry lebron fans those two games. It's
it's Steph Curry.
Speaker 1 (15:45):
Steph Curry could have not played at all and come
in for the last two minutes of the gold medal
game and I'd have given him the MVP for the Olympics.
Speaker 3 (15:53):
So you got that. But you know, I like that
the idea of him hopping from town to town because
he'd be the opposite of the Shaktas because he's a
little guy. Yeah yeah, and by little it's all relative again,
I'm five foot nothing, fire plug. But in the end,
it's that fun debate that we have of a player
defining what his legacy is and what he how he
(16:17):
wants to end things versus what we do in media.
Because I think you and I agree it's the all right,
the obvious thing is go win don't don't you know,
waste your final couple of years where you're still shooting
at a at a high level and still a good
playmaker and all of those things that you know you
can still go help and contribute just like you did
(16:38):
here Team USA. Uh. So part of that was I
want my gold medal. The other part was, look, I
still got this. I'm still Steph bleep and Curry uh
and I can hit big shots for you here uh
and get some of the run on this one. But
it's that personally, right, is the Olympic medal the crowning
(16:59):
achievement because some of his talk was kind of there,
but then the other then it kind of stoked that
fire hanging out with Lebron and KD and all these
greats for that time to keep pushing it and wanting
another title. Look, Draymond's can make a twenty five million
dollars a year. That's on a relative basis, that's chump change.
(17:19):
Steph's got two years left on this deal, the twenty
five to twenty six campaign. He's at like sixty million
dollars or something like that. But it's the how does
he define his legacy? At this point? Has he done
everything and the you know, scoring, mounting up in whatever
is nice and being a one team player. Does that
(17:40):
mean more than going and seeing as being seen as
potentially quote chasing another title versus being the guy that's
going to claim that title. Right, It's all a matter
of how we frame things right in a lot of
these circumstances, because most of the veterans are seen as
(18:00):
kind of sad sack, changing each changing and chasing the
rings and becoming voltron that while we may be diminished individually,
I don't know. I'm looking at Pippin and Barkley and
and what Elijah want. It was at that point like
we could still win because we're still greater if we're together, right, right? No,
or that Lakers squad that brought in Karl Malone and
(18:24):
Gary Payton in company, that it'll work that way. I don't.
I don't know that Steph necessarily wants to be lumped
into that side of history's equation.
Speaker 1 (18:33):
Exit at about a Fresca exit swollen dome. He wants
to win again, He needs to leave. I'm ready for
an interview, canbr anytime you want to?
Speaker 3 (18:41):
They hate you. The chase not as much as oral herscheid.
They hate. Oh it's probably close, but yeah, you're probably right.

Harmon Love at the Tirack dot com Studious.
Speaker 3 (20:30):
So, Mary Mack, what do you think of the song
you played other Guardians of the Galaxy? What do you
think of this one? It's cool? Yeah, it's the best
one on the best one on the soundtrack. I disagree
with that one. Oh all right, now we can have
a conversation about that's fine. She's a mister bluesky kind
of guy. I do like mister Booths. But yeah, that's
part two. That's part two. But even in the first one,
(20:50):
that soundtrack was so good. But this is not one
of the best song glove of a soundtrack. Wow, okay,
that's a hot take, Mary, it's a little hot take.
Speaker 2 (20:57):
That's the facts.
Speaker 1 (20:58):
No, No, we're rubbing off on See that's how you
say it, you rubbing out. You'll be a sports talk
radio host before you know it.
Speaker 3 (21:04):
It's not a hot take that as it's not a
hot take. That's a let's come along with what's what's
Larry David. I can't prove it. I just know that
it's true. She's got brain scans of what song does
to people, her favorite cares, It activates so many other things.
(21:28):
The frequencies in the song just like gets people going.
Speaker 1 (21:31):
Yeah, No, the guitar is great. It's one of the
more underrated rock songs of all time. Just that that
very beginning, that burn, It comes out like wow, and
it just hits you. Uh So they got married, very
good you're oh Mary mac hot take artist.
Speaker 3 (21:45):
There you go.
Speaker 1 (21:46):
Uh hey, before we get to what I really don't
want to see? Uh in an NFL game tomorrow night.
Maybe you saw this story today involving Saint John's head
coach Rick Patino, who had his office burglarized. Yeah, on
Saint John's campus overnight, thieves broke into his office, which
(22:11):
was unlocked, and.
Speaker 3 (22:13):
They stole a bullhorn and a ceremonial sword from his office.
The theft happen, I don't know well. The theft happened
Tuesday night before eight pm. It's not immediately clear if
other items were stolen.
Speaker 1 (22:31):
Patino initially posted that he was really upset an expecsive
bottle of wine was missing, but he later posted, I
was just joking.
Speaker 3 (22:38):
Oh good, I'm glad. I'm glad that a guy who
teaches young men, many of them under twenty one, I
don't keep wine in my office. Okay, that starts saying
a bottle of red bottle, right, but we'll do it
on behalf of our guy Frostburg shakes sitting in with us, Mary,
look up the scenes from an Italian restaurant, Billy Joe.
(23:00):
Uh but okay, they took a bullhorn, like why would
you take a bullhorn? And they took a sword, like
the sword is the thing that like you know what,
this sounds like logs, like what are we doing here?
Speaker 1 (23:13):
This? This sounds like the plot of a of a
like a Will Ferrell or a or a ad Jason
Sedeikis movie where we need a sword from a basketball
coach if we're gonna if we're gonna send these aliens
back to their planet.
Speaker 3 (23:26):
Well, I know Patino keeps the sword in his office.
He's all right, let's go there and break it and
take it. Is part of a civil war in a society.
Maybe he's a highlander. Maybe a highlander. Whoa, whoa, whoa.
There could be only one about that video.
Speaker 1 (23:45):
Of him on like some some big mountaintop somewhere in
Ireland that he's doing and stuff with.
Speaker 3 (23:49):
He's experiment experiencing the quickening lightning shooting through his body
like like you.
Speaker 1 (23:59):
Could see it in a movie where where where sedekis?
And we're like, oh man, we just made it out.
Think anybody noticed? And they turned the TV and the
and the newscaster said, and this story from Queen's Tonight,
Saint John's head coach Rick Patino had a bullhorn and
a ceremonial sword stolen from his office to the police
say they have many leads on these items.
Speaker 3 (24:18):
Oh man, we gotta get out of here, Like that's
the whole scene. I got a sword from Rick Patino's
off it. You need a ceremonial sword now one night
you buy you know as part of uh, you know,
Halloween town kind of things and the spirit of Halloween
that are opening up to where I got to complete
(24:38):
the look, no, no, no, I need a sword that
was used in a ceremony that was presented to a
figure as opposed you bought for four dollars out of
a bin. And I'm just gonna say this, if something
happens in the next few days and there's some kind
of ceremony that somebody has and a sword is used,
and like the heavens open up and all these really
(25:01):
bad things come and attack and take over the world. Patino,
this is on you man.
Speaker 1 (25:05):
You had to have that sword, right, and of course
someone's gonna try to come in and take it if
they can open up the portals between Earth and someplace else.
Speaker 3 (25:12):
It's on you, man, Rick Patino, who knew end of
the world. Rick Patino, who katana swords are in? I mean,
so why not?
Speaker 1 (25:23):
Hey, maybe it's Quentin Tarantino. We sold to shoot Kill
Bill three. I'm out of Katana swords, man, I need one.
Speaker 3 (25:29):
I need one. I gotta do another movie. I had to.
I'm still not gonna tell that joke in one line
that just went through my uh coming up in ninety
seconds the world ends. It's Rick Patino's fault.
Speaker 5 (25:43):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (25:43):
One thing.
Speaker 1 (25:45):
I really hope I am the gatekeeper. I really hope
we don't see from an NFL game for our night,
but first specially delivery. Steve de Sager has a recap
on all the big games in sports to night, including
the most recent game that ended, which, of course, all
the other games tonight led up to the Bets beat
in the Padres eight to three.
Speaker 5 (26:04):
So what you really want to see tomorrow night is
Rick Moranas starting at quarterback for the forty nine ers.
Speaker 3 (26:10):
That was no care of all of it. We're here
with forty nine ers quarter up. Rick moranis Rick? What
do you say? I am zou.
Speaker 5 (26:18):
See the glasses through the face mass sure two NFL
exhibitions tonight, the Colts Anthony Richardson threw a touchdown pass,
one for his team, one for the other team on
the pick six. But the Colts did win at Cincinnati
for what it's wor twenty seven to fourteen. Chicago finished
four to ohero in the preseason, winning at Kansas City
thirty four to twenty one. Kansas City's giving center Creed
Humphrey a new four year extension. Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford
(26:42):
practice fully today against the Texans after hamstring tightness. Quarterback
Aaron Rodgers and Jets starters will not play Saturday against
the Giants. There are three more exhibitions tomorrow. Most teams
play on Saturday, three game Sunday. This is the final
week of the preseason. Atlanta gave defensive back ajl a
four year extension. San Francisco re signed tight end Logan Thomas.
(27:04):
The Eagles acquired wide receiver Johan Dotson from Washington, and
the Commanders traded four kicker cade Yorke from Cleveland and
released kicker Riley Patterson. Iowa suspended coach Kirk Farrens for
a recruiting violation. He'll miss the first game. There are
four college football openers this Saturday. Keegan Bradley as a
one stroke lead in the golf playoff in Colorado. One
(27:25):
WNBA game tonight, New York twenty five and four beat
Dallas again seventy nine seventy one. The late MLB contest
went to the Mets eight three at San Diego, the
win to Luis Severino, who pitch five innings, the loss
to Dylan Cees. The Padres entered tonight tied for second
in the NL West with Arizona, four games behind the
idle Dodgers. LA designated Jason Hayward for assignment and activated
(27:49):
Chris Taylor. Houston is signing reliever Hector Narris, who was
cut by the Cubs this week. Houston a six nothing
winner at Baltimore, beating Corbyn Burns. The O's offense went
three for thirty. Houston has won nine straight on the road.
Houston's first place team in the AL West, five games
over the Mariners, who've now lost eight of nine. And
Seattle today fired manager Scott Service fired the hitting coach
(28:12):
Jared DeHart. Also, the team batting average was the worst
in the majors for Seattle at two sixteen. The Yankees
Aaron Judge hit his forty eighth homer today six to nothing,
the final over Cleveland as they held the Guardians to
one hit Judge up to one hundred and eighteen. RBIs
in fact, after the slow start this year, if you
go back to late April, his last ninety nine games
(28:33):
Aaron Judge batting averages three seventy nine daytime wins for
the Cubs and Cardinals. For Washington and Oakland, which beat
Tampa Bay three to one. Attendance five thousand and one
forty two at Pittsburgh, Paul Skens another win, nine strikeouts
in six innings seven nothing over the Red Skins is
eight and two. Toronto beat the Angels five to three.
(28:54):
Atlanta edge Philadelphia three to two.
Speaker 3 (28:57):
Back to you, Thank you, Steve.
Speaker 1 (28:58):
Though the Jason Smiths was my Carmen live from the
Tyrack dot com studios, and we had two games tonight
in the NFL. The Bears beat the Chiefs, the Colts
over the Bengals. We got into the dangers of Anthony
Richardson and believing in him and hoping he's gonna stay healthy.
Speaker 3 (29:14):
But tomorrow night we have three games and the big one.
Speaker 1 (29:18):
NFL Network's gonna have it as the nightcap will be
on during the during well, it's on the forty nine
Ers and the Raiders, and I will tell you this,
I hope to not see Brock Purdy play a down
in this game. This is what I mean when I
say the forty nine ers success. I get mad that
they're successful because they do stuff that's just stupid and
(29:41):
they still find a way out of it.
Speaker 3 (29:42):
They make bad decisions and still it works out right.
Not taunt happy fun ball.
Speaker 1 (29:47):
They played purty last week with three backup offensive linemen
and no skill position players. That's a recipe for disaster.
I don't care what you're.
Speaker 3 (29:55):
Trying to do.
Speaker 1 (29:56):
If you're Kyle Chadhan, that's just stupid to put your
sixty million dollar a year quarterback, that's what he's gonna
get next year, to put him out there behind three
backup offensive line.
Speaker 3 (30:06):
Those guys, because you're gonna do it at some point.
No I I I get it. I get you. I
need it there. And I threw that out there and
left a really bad taste bile filled in my mouth.
Speaker 1 (30:17):
But you need it when you have to happen, when
you have no choice. Week one, Yeah, he's gotta go
out there. Why would you put him out there where
you know, one of the guys he's playing behind is
his backup left tackle because Trent Williams is not there.
That was just that's just dumb. That was I mean,
I understand that. This is like I'm smarter than anybody
in the room. I'm gonna put my quarterback out there
and doing. Someone need to say, dude, what are you doing?
(30:39):
What are you really doing? And now there's reports, Hey,
he's gonna play again tomorrow night and more starters are
going to play for the forty nine ers.
Speaker 3 (30:47):
Okay, you're you're playing your starters here.
Speaker 1 (30:50):
Okay, you still have a backup left tackle? Are you
playing all your starting offensive linemen? But really you're gonna
play party after all, this is just went on. You
escaped injury with that. He got lucky because he got
hit a few times, right like you got hit a
few times in the game. You're gonna play him, and
you're really gonna do this again, like like I go,
I go. If he gets hurt, it's almost like you
(31:11):
made it happen by putting him out there when you
don't need to put him out there. He can get reps,
He gets reps in the joint practices. This is how
the Jets do it with Aaron Rodgers. It's how most
teams do it with their quarterbacks. The Falcons know they're
gonna go to Michael Pennix Junior at some point in
the next few weeks. They're still sitting him out. Guys
just don't play. But no, no, no, But Kyle Shanahan,
(31:32):
who's young and and one of the best young coaches
in the NFL, and I give him all the credit
in the world because the guy is fantastic. But dude,
get out of your own way on this man, Like
I stop thinking you're too much of a genius and
believing it. Do something smart and don't put your quarterback
out there so he gets hurt. There's no game. He's
had enough football. He's had enough football. I get you're
(31:53):
getting ready for the Jets and all this stuff. Yeah,
he's had enough football where Okay, I'm good. I can
get out there and I'll be able to hit the
grond running week one.
Speaker 3 (32:01):
Yeah, it's the worst of because I'm on either side
of it. Right. Look, I gotta watch it at least
some of it because we're gonna be on in the
window and then certainly into the weekend final throws of
this last observations, and you know, at the end of
the day, it's like pizza and sex. It's it's still football,
(32:22):
so I gotta watch it. But I also don't want
to see the starters for anybody out there, let alone
rock party where you're one of the preseason Super Bowl
favorites and throwing, you know, caution to the wind and saying,
all right, we're gonna get out unscathed. There's a couple
of things we'd like to see on tape, and then
we'll go from there, because even in one series, things
(32:44):
go go sideways really fast in a football game. So
I don't I don't get the logic, and that goes
for them, that goes for their opponent, goes for everybody
playing throughout the rest of this weekend. There's no upside
for your starters if they don't have to Russ knocked
off by this point, unless you've literally had a guy
(33:06):
that he's finally been cleared for reps that maybe you
want to go give them a series or two. Otherwise,
if they've given you three, four series, a quarter a
half at this point, they're in mothballs. They're signing autographs,
waving and shaking hands with people on the sidelines, and
we'll see it for the season opener because there's nothing
(33:27):
else that needs to be seen. Yeah, you don't need
to run out your starters, So al Michaels and everybody
gets just called out the starters' names.
Speaker 1 (33:36):
Exit albou Depreska, Exit, Swallen Dough. The Jason Smith Show
is my best friend.
Speaker 3 (33:40):
Mike Carbon.
Speaker 1 (33:41):
Oh, by the way, speaking about Michaels, how happy was
he to do that Amazon Prime preseason game tonight?
Speaker 3 (33:46):
He hey, well, we need just well he got to
call little Anthony Richardson, good dad, ugly got a couple
of excitable moments. Remember they trotted them out during the Olympics.
You're gonna show up. Sure, you're gonna show up, and
you're gonna smile.
Speaker 1 (34:02):
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon Live the tirec
dot Com Studios. Coming up next, bad news for twenty
nine teams in one sport because one team is back.

Speaker 5 (34:31):
I'm a young money million nereicker and Nigerian.
Speaker 3 (34:35):
Here, but it should have been. It definitely should have been.
This should have been the song he dances too.
Speaker 2 (34:41):
Honestly, Grouse would answer.
Speaker 3 (34:43):
This song, I'm distracting to your turn blossom. Oh okay,
I really want to go to a club where this
is playing. Now that experience. I think Mary will take
you after the show too. I definitely will. We can go.
I can't go today, No no, I can't. I can't
go tonight though I heard no no, but I can't
go tonight. Every day there, I say. I still got
to be up for real early tomorrow. What I'm bad
(35:04):
with you can be like in your twenties where you
party on I and then you wake up super early
for class. I'd like to go. Oh, let's go now.
Speaker 1 (35:11):
Oh I can't go tonight, but another night I'll goose
are definitely go another night.
Speaker 3 (35:15):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (35:16):
The Chase the Smith Show with Mike Carbon Live from
the tire Rack dot Com studios, and look. Bad news
for twenty nine teams in Major League Baseball, Well in
really bad news, the Mariners because the Dodgers also got
your manager fired.
Speaker 3 (35:29):
Happy hard how to put yeah.
Speaker 1 (35:32):
A big story today in sports the Mariners fire manager
Scott Service after getting swept by the Dodgers last night.
This is now a time where instead of hey, everybody
seems vulnerable, I look at it differently. Twenty nine teams
(35:53):
are saying, great, we're where we were in the beginning
of the year where the Dodgers looked like the best
team in Major League Baseball. And it's far and away
there better than everybody else. Because over the course of
the last few days, it's not just this one series
against the Mariagers, but this was the big punctuation of it,
is that they've gotten healthy. Max Munsey is back. You're
(36:16):
talking about a team one through seven now that is raking.
I mean, Gavin lux has got a nine hundred ops
the last couple of months. He's really jumped in. They
are now deep. They figured out they're starting pitching a
little bit. Jack Flaherty he's their apes man, he's the guy.
He's got attitude, he's got all kinds of attitude about
(36:37):
him on the mound, and now he stared down Randy
and Rose of rain A last night after he hit him.
They're getting clarity there. He's everything they wanted when they
made a trade for him. The Dodgers have gotten through
a really rough spot where they were injured for a
while and starting pitching was a big issue. Now starting
pitching is still an issue. You don't know how things
(36:58):
are gonna go. Is Yoshinobu Yamamodo coming back. We've heard
that that mid September is a definitive target for him.
The Dodgers are playing it's safe. You know, hey, Tyler
glasst now supposed he is coming back, but is he
coming back soon? There's still questions potential answers for the Dodgers,
but they can just outslug you now. I mean, Mookie
(37:18):
Betts has come back to right field, and it's this
lineup now is incredibly dangerous. And it's where it was
the first couple months of the season when the Dodger
just beating everybody. I don't like they were gonna win
the NL West by fifty games. Like they had a
really rough three month spend where they were a five
hundred team, And yet they go through all of that
and here they are the best record in baseball again
(37:39):
and now they're healthy, and they're healthy and they're playing
great and O'tani hasn't even been great.
Speaker 3 (37:45):
You know what.
Speaker 1 (37:45):
A couple of other big matters have you talked about?
Will Smith hasn't really been hitting a lot lately, and
still the Dodger are doing this and now they're healthy again.
Like this is the worst news because this last few
days it's gone from hey, maybe anybody can win. It's
one of those years major League Baseball too well up
kind of the Dodgers are ahead everybody else and maybe
somebody else can win. We're one of the other teams
(38:07):
hoping to get a shot. Like that's how fast it's
happened for the Dodgers in the last couple of.
Speaker 3 (38:11):
Weeks sub five hundred. In July they went eleven and thirteen,
obviously including that All Star break of pause, but nineteen
games in August thirteen and six, ten and three their
last thirteen and streaking the sweep of the Mariners, a
once powerful squad. And they're team batting average kind of interesting.
(38:32):
April two sixty five, May two thirty six, June two
fifty eight, July two thirty seven, and then August two
fifty six, So twenty point swings going up and down
on a little bit of a roller coaster ride. But
you know it, really the thing that is the best
is Flaherty became the guy. And we talked about him
(38:53):
a couple of days before the trade deadline on the
show Jason as a guy that was kind of flying
under the radar with all of the disc gushions of
Scooble and what he could be. Obviously, the Padres have
already done it, done their big starting thing preemptively by
getting Cease in the off season. But when you look
at Flarity was the well, I guess he's the best available,
(39:15):
and there really wasn't a lot of excitement. You know,
we watch it every night in the studio. You know,
no matter who's playing, there's a game on last night
we were watching the Rays and A's for crying out loud.
I mean, nothing escapes our purview. But you look at
the Flarity comes over and he's been everything you could
want it and then some for a guy that was
(39:35):
the well, that's the only guy that became available. Boom,
he's the guy that gets moved and Kershaw the last
couple of starts. I don't know how much more you
can get out of them. But if I'm getting six
innings eighty three pitches, I'm feeling pretty good, good movement,
the snap's coming back off the curve, like it's all
looking good there and hopefully glass now be fine and
(39:57):
you go from there. But yeah, still little bit of
concern over the starting pitching. But with Otani and Smith's
still trying to find their stroke and you've gotten this
much power potential to where it's they who's the odd
man out. Those are great problems to have for Dave Roberts. Yeah,
I mean like he's he's managing like it's the playoffs.
Playoff Dave is back now, So this means you're gonna
(40:19):
get all kinds of bullpen pitchers coming in in the
fourth inning like playoff Dave is here man carry in seventeen.
What do your starting pitching look like?
Speaker 1 (40:31):
Well, we uh it's it's gonna be Flaherty and uh
Kershaw and uh that's it.
Speaker 3 (40:41):
Everybody else's really they just list everything as opener, open, surprise,
first game of the playoffs. They have a well where
it's a bullpen game. It's the first game of the
player it's a bullpen game. We're gonna We're gonna say
Flaherty for Game three, We're back. I mean, this is
a mean playoff. Dave is back.
Speaker 5 (40:56):
Man.
Speaker 1 (40:56):
I'm telling you the Dodgers they had a really bad
and they weathered it and now now they're back, and
I expect these next five weeks they'll pull away in
the in the NL West and hit the ground running
in the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (41:09):
Man, that the Dodgers are back. I love it, man.
Chaos ensues. Let's go exit out about a Fresca exit
swollen dome.
Speaker 1 (41:15):
