Speaker 2 (00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
Hello, Welcome in side final hour tonight. Get the fours up.
That is right, Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmon.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
Have it bellowed one of those in a while?
Speaker 1 (00:39):
No?
Speaker 2 (00:40):
That is right, That is right. I hurt my hand.
Speaker 1 (00:45):
Day one of NBA Free Agency. A lot of money
getting thrown around, Yes, a lot of people changing teams,
millions upon millions of dollars live, changing moneies.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
But for the next.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
Half hour here on the show, we're going to talk
about guys who are staying with their teams after what's
going on in the course the last twenty four to
thirty six hours. Okay, I mean we could talk about
Jordan Clarkson going to the Knicks and all of a sudden,
this is a Larry O'Brien move. But yeah, I mean
they are now the prohibited favorites in the Eastern Conference.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
Yeah yeah, I like that.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
Huh yeah, Well but it just shows how everybody just
took a step back, so suddenly you're you're in front.
Speaker 4 (01:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
It's like one of those things where if you want
to volunteer for this, take one step forward, and when
nobody want to do it, so everybody takes a step back, right,
and the one person didn't move. Oh great, yeah you
have this.
Speaker 2 (01:36):
That's gotta where you're at. The Nick stayed.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
Everybody else took a step back, so ahead the next
of the Cavaliers lost a little depth today.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
You can tide your home, take a three year deal. Yeah,
but look, I mean here's a pretty good shooter off
the bench for them.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
You're looking at the top four teams in the East
from this past here. Okay, Well, the Celtics they're moving
on right. They've already traded two of their lynchpins from
the from the champion team. Jason Tatum's out most about
all the next year. The Pacers gonna be without Haliburton
for probably all of next year. He'll still beat the.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
TJ.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
McConnell is not going to play forty one minutes like
lebron Jay not happening.
Speaker 3 (02:12):
Here's the type of energy that he summons. It's like
he's got the damn Infinity Star. Has any answer for
the Pacers.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
It's like dude's getting Gamma raided and he becomes the Hulk.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
So, you know, scratch the Pacers.
Speaker 5 (02:28):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (02:29):
The Cavaliers losing the second round to Indiana and even
though they had the great regulations, Okay, the Knicks who
lost the conference fund, Okay, they're like the Okay, they're
the last one.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
Okay, the last one standing. All right, let's go. You
may still have a million questions, don't.
Speaker 1 (02:44):
Doesn't two starters that can't play deep right and refused?
Speaker 2 (02:48):
Yeah yeah, but yeah we're the favorite. You have a
rotation of seven guys, but here you are.
Speaker 1 (02:56):
You know, I kind of feel like it's that's the
way that tell the vision's gone in the last few years,
where the last couple of years we ended the era
of peak TV, and you go back just you know,
two years, go back to like twenty twenty two, you know,
coming off of the pandemic and into twenty twenty one
and twenty twenty two. The era of peak TV was
was going on for so long. There were so many
(03:17):
great shows, so many different streaming sites and services had
these shows. You had to have a lot of I
gotta get this show and this show and this show.
And now you're like, okay, well not as much and
the shows that are at the top but people love. Yeah,
not quite the same quality of the shows from twenty
twenty two and before, but somebody's got to be the best.
(03:38):
So okay, the Knicks are the Knicks are you know
the last of us of Now, hey, is that show
as good as when Ted Lasso? And I was, no,
probably not, but hey, some show's got to be great.
Lasso had plenty of flaws, but you know what it
began and the guy that.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
Stepped forward when everybody stepped back.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
A lot of people still owe me an apology for
some of the nonsense they pulled during that whole COVID
than We will lay.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
That for another time.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
But to your point, yeah, you had shows that you
were engaged in in rapture. Now again, you got a
lot of NBA guys. What's your favorite show?
Speaker 2 (04:14):
Love Island?
Speaker 1 (04:16):
You know, like, come on, I really I it trends
every day there's what a new episode every day, but
I all but one day of the week.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
I couldn't tell you anything that this is about to
get into. It's too smart for you.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
It can't be love. Something called Love Island. Yeah, very
very very personal content. Okay, So it's it's people on
an island, right that that that are trying to find love, right,
I'm getting there.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
From the title get You and You with a blood handle.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
But there's also people. There's also some sort of survivor
element to it, where people form alliances because they want
to stay on the show. It's it's kind of like
Survivor meets The Bachelor. Love Island reality TV show.
Speaker 3 (04:57):
We're attractive single contestants known as Island live together in
the vita uh seeking love and aiming to avoid elimination.
They couple up, participate in challenges, and face public votes.
It's not a couple.
Speaker 1 (05:12):
They live where they're they're filming, and they could get eliminated,
like I live here.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
Yeah, so Mary, you watch it.
Speaker 6 (05:19):
I don't watch it, but it's all over my Twitter timeline.
Speaker 2 (05:22):
It's everybody. Everybody seems to love it.
Speaker 6 (05:24):
Basically, they're in Fiji for I think like eight weeks,
I think, and then there's just like a bunch of couple.
Speaker 2 (05:30):
It's the dumbest thing ever, though, how do you get eliminated?
Like do do people?
Speaker 6 (05:34):
It's basically like people who are watching it, they can vote.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
If like okay, I got the pacers or sorry eliminated.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
There's no vote that happens there, but it's the.
Speaker 6 (05:45):
Person you're coupled with, like you don't see chemistry. Like,
then what they'll do is they have this thing called
cosa war, and you can, like if you get voted off,
like you go to another house and you can come
back and get coupled with somebody else. And then there's
the thing that's called bombshells where it's like new people,
like a new guy or a new a.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
Lot about this or someone who doesn't watch the show.
Yeah I don't watch timeline.
Speaker 1 (06:07):
No no, no, that's a lot of layers, you know, with
the get well which is which is the love?
Speaker 6 (06:12):
No, but do you know what this season sucks? But
last season was pretty well I'm not gonna lie, Oh
it's this is a second season. No, this is like
season eighteen. Wait, Wi's not new again. It's like the Bachelor.
So it's like every single season has new characters.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
But everyone eighteen.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
But it cuts through it because I think they've upped
the number of episodes and how they've distributed, and certainly
the social media engagement has been.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
For the definition of attraction. You know, Okay, the game
all right, so they have like ogs things like that.
Speaker 6 (06:47):
I think it's like ten people and then like as
people leave, new people come on like momshells.
Speaker 2 (06:52):
But you get then you get to go to the
love shack. Basically it's a little old pace where I'm
auditioning to be the guy that sings when you can made.
Speaker 6 (06:59):
But you know what I know it's a kicker is
the person who left. Let's say, like they put them
in cost some war like and they're gonna come back.
So when the bombshell comes, the person who they were
coupled with, like they say that go with the bombshell.
Then the original person comes back, and then the person
who like gets to choose between the bombshell or the
person that they just had.
Speaker 2 (07:18):
It's super messy, though it did sounds messy for not
watching it. You seem to know any of them.
Speaker 1 (07:24):
Ever combined to where you've got the bombshell plus the person.
They just don't and and the throw the bombshell was
a person. Yeah, it's not something that happened, you know.
But I thought every woman that comes, I thought.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Everybody was attractive on the show. Well, but now added
new attractive. When's the last time somebody called you a bombshell?
Speaker 1 (07:46):
No, just yesterday, I said, what a bombshell you are?
I said, thank you. Happens all the time. Paying somebody
doesn't care, Oh it doesn't. Okay, Well, then there's been
a while. Tell me, I'm pretty it's been a while.
Tell me okay, So so this is somebody new coming
into bombshell.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
Okay, now I got okay, And I don't know.
Speaker 6 (08:05):
Think about it like NBA times, like when somebody gets
traded to a new team, Like, if you think about
it that way, it makes it easier.
Speaker 3 (08:12):
He may only be a percentage point better as a shooter,
but if he's not the old guy that you hated
missing shots.
Speaker 2 (08:18):
But if it's a new guy to take them.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
But if the nick say, okay, hey we're trading Karl
Anthony Towns and he's coupled with Jalen Brunson, that means
I would lose Karl Anthony Towns and Jal that's right, No,
you can't have that.
Speaker 2 (08:31):
No, that's not how it goes. That's you just said.
It happens lose to.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
The Pacers a person, would you stop with the Pacers
and the losing, with the losing and the Pads.
Speaker 6 (08:39):
And so let's say Carl, Carl, Anthony town and Jaylen
Brnston were together, right, Okay, then let's say like, all right,
the hot topic. But they have they trade and they
get like Lebron, right okay, and now they trade Lebron
for Carl Anthony. But Carl Anthony has his deal has
n't been finalized yet, so he's still kind of on
the team.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
So while you think he's away, he actually comes back.
Speaker 6 (09:00):
And I was like, wait, actually, you can either choose
between do you want to get back with Carl Anthony
Towns or do you want to stay with.
Speaker 1 (09:09):
With See I wish NBA trades worked that way. Hey,
you know what, this trade is not working how I.
Speaker 6 (09:14):
Thought, because remember they traded the guy with the Lakers
and then they got rescinded.
Speaker 3 (09:20):
Yeah, well no, but that that's that's the Laker's front
office that started reading their mentions and how much people
didn't like it.
Speaker 5 (09:27):
Okay, So for office though team in the Love Island, Yes,
at some point I would have gone back and said, hey,
let's go back and do that Karl Anthony Towns Devincenzo.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
Julie's Randall trade again.
Speaker 1 (09:38):
Let's go back somebody, why we don't to make some
shots like he did a year ago.
Speaker 6 (09:44):
A right, and then let's say, like Carl Anthony Towns,
like people actually really like, I'm like, no, colect him
stay on the team. Then he can choose somebody else
to get coupled with, and then.
Speaker 1 (09:53):
He can say, oh blank you and Blanke you Brunson,
I get that they.
Speaker 6 (09:57):
Don't like on that team can leave and then they
basically make room for other people to say, yeah, this
is better than free agents. So then you get Carl
Anthony Towns, and then you Jaylen Brenson and you get Lebron.
Speaker 2 (10:07):
Oh okay, without having to trade anything.
Speaker 6 (10:10):
Basically, I mean the person who's getting traded would be
the least person that they don't like.
Speaker 2 (10:14):
Yeah, that guys get Let's say the.
Speaker 6 (10:16):
Chemistry is off, and like they're gonna be like, yeah.
Speaker 1 (10:18):
Taking kick them both off. He's a bad shooter. I'm
saying Okay to call bridges. You can go like the Fall.
Speaker 6 (10:25):
You know how they have the little like games and
stuff like that. That's the challenge is So if they
fail at it, then yeah, kick them off.
Speaker 1 (10:31):
Okay, no, no, I like it now now I understand
it now he said I could make all kinds of
crazy trades.
Speaker 2 (10:36):
This is great, mom, shout out behind James.
Speaker 6 (10:41):
Isn't actually that Karl Anthony town So now Lebron James
is going to Jaylen Brnson and talking crap about Karl
Anthony towns and they not trust each other.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
Oh well, it's New York, so I think that would
happen anyway. But guys, I don't know if we can
trust Mary with this. She doesn't watch it, just not
not at all. He's just making this understand But like
the last five minutes might have been absolute nonsense.
Speaker 2 (11:03):
Anybody that watch that swollen nome that how.
Speaker 1 (11:07):
About a fresca if you have a primer like one
pager with a float chartay to how this game? Bottom
line is this to borrow from Love Island. If you
got to do trades over again, if you didn't like
how they turned out in the NBA, I'm for that.
Speaker 3 (11:23):
Well, people might say that all the time. I'm almost
like eighty apps exist.
Speaker 1 (11:26):
I'm also for being able to trade a guy I
don't want for a guy I really want, Like I'm
okay that i'd like to do that man at high
school reunion, Thanksgiving, going home to your hometown and i'd loved.
Speaker 2 (11:37):
Eating up at that.
Speaker 1 (11:39):
Local bar that you used to go to that's in
the love shack, right, because that's in the love Shack.
Speaker 2 (11:44):
Some more, baby lay roof rusted. Okay, I'm good, I'm good,
I'm good. I'm good.
Speaker 1 (11:54):
Okay, Uh, you know I want to watch it now
where I'm next to you're you're, you're the jis.
Speaker 6 (12:01):
Don't watch this, don't watch this season, watch the season before.
Speaker 2 (12:04):
Is that what Twitter told you? No?
Speaker 6 (12:06):
Because I actually was kind of tuned in watching season one.
Speaker 2 (12:10):
Yeah, let's go back and just do a total reasons.
Speaker 1 (12:13):
Season one has to be what a year and a
half ago, because all those well, no, but if you
go back.
Speaker 2 (12:17):
Min it's eighteen, so maybe what maybe nine ten years ago? Remember,
because there's Love Island US, and there's the.
Speaker 5 (12:23):
Original Love Island UK because the UK office because the
UK is an island.
Speaker 1 (12:28):
It's okay, it's probably better.
Speaker 2 (12:30):
Because it probably language and everything. I don't know. Please
forgive me fruity language. Would you like to go to
some more with me.
Speaker 1 (12:39):
I'll put you in there so someone else could go
go love love you, and I'll love someone else who
wants to.
Speaker 2 (12:45):
What about Taed Mayer was shot at the back, lauded
the universes.
Speaker 1 (12:50):
They just they just they just take they just take
away the arch in Saint Louis, and they move in
big bad and there's there's the clock tower from Back
to the Future. Have a nice thing a exit l
jawser cant you on the workout?
Speaker 2 (13:08):
Hey, there's an eligible batcheler. Who's that guy that looks
like Anthony Purkis? All right?
Speaker 1 (13:14):
Well, I'm glad now I understand love. If it's gonna
trend every day, and glad I get it all right now,
I understand it. If you see a painted signed on
the side of the road, it's sas it's trending for
a whole other reason. Trust me, all right? So I
wait hip deep into this. Coming up next day one
of NBA free agency. Two players we're gonna focus on
(13:36):
who are staying with their teams, And I don't know
why That's next Jason and Mike Fox Love Island Edition
treaded Carl Anthony Towns. We moved on from Randall and Devincenzo,
and we did win anymore in the playoffs. We lost
(13:58):
out of the Pacers when Halla Burton took that shot
at bounced and bounced and bounced and bounced through the hope.
Speaker 2 (14:05):

Speaker 1 (14:47):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Harmon. Yeah, so day one of NBA free agency,
we're waiting for Giannis to sign with the Knicks. Well,
that's not happening because he posted earlier in his movie
I'm moving.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
He just posted it. You already had him walking.
Speaker 1 (15:04):
Okay, Yanni's posted a picture, Lisa, and I've moved before.
Speaker 2 (15:07):
I've done the same thing. You posted pictures of stuff
you've kept, put everything in one pile and took a picture.
Speaker 1 (15:14):
Yannis put all the a picture of all the hardware
he's won in the NBA Lakers and put the picture
on social media. Because you know, Oh, I haven't done anything.
I'm not great, I'm overrated. Here's all the stuff I've won.
(15:35):
Frostburg's taking that to it. Hey, he's moving and he's
selling all his stuff.
Speaker 2 (15:41):
I'm supposed to get down. I like the I like
the twenty seventeen Rookie of the Year award. That'd be great.
Speaker 3 (15:46):
He decided he doesn't need that. He needs a new chapter,
new trophy case. I'm needing behind anything. I'm selling my
replica of the Larry O'Brien trophy. I'm selling that.
Speaker 1 (15:56):
I'm selling my MVP of the Finals trophy.
Speaker 2 (16:00):
Is he not selling basketball the Pacers?
Speaker 3 (16:03):
But it's like he's hanging out on the lawn like
Will Ferrow and everything must go.
Speaker 1 (16:09):
How much you want to bet the Pacers Still they
have team parties and they have that ball.
Speaker 2 (16:13):
They just passing around to each other. They're playing Hoppit
Tato with it, guarantee. Is that the honest ball? Yeah? Man,
that's the real one. He doesn't have the real one.
We still have it. Yeah, that's the honest ball. There's
just passing around.
Speaker 1 (16:25):
They're all sitting around a living room and just throwing
it around to each other. Yeah, spinning it on their finger.
We got the ball from an NBA champion. Look at
us vocals probably spinning it on his tooth.
Speaker 2 (16:37):
Thush.
Speaker 1 (16:40):
So, with day one of the NBA free agency in
the books, to look forward to another big day tomorrow,
let's focus on a couple of guys who are staying
with their teams. Okay, because I first got I'm gonna
give a lot of credit before I say I don't
know why the hell the team is keeping them. James
Harden is staying with the Clippers, opting out out of
the last year of his contract for thirty six million
(17:02):
and he's going to agree to a new deal two
years and eighty two million dollars to stay with the Clippers.
Speaker 2 (17:11):
Okay, I don't know how he's able to keep doing
this again.
Speaker 1 (17:14):
You want to talk about Hall of Fame of business
and James Harden somehow finds a way to get to
the final year of a contract where the team is saying,
there's no way, it's the last time he's ever.
Speaker 2 (17:24):
Gonna earn money.
Speaker 1 (17:24):
You're never gonna get a contract like this again. And
some have a good enough year to say, hey, I
want to get out of this one. Let's get into
a new two year deal where I make double the money.
And he's done that now, like three times in a row.
He's found a way to do that. We're going he's
not getting paid anymore. No, no, no, ohma, have just
as good enough a year here to make you think, oh,
you can continue to build around me and things are
(17:45):
gonna get better. So here instead of one year, thirty
six million, now we don't know, we're gonna keep you up,
now two years eighty two million dollars. Good congratulations one
and the bonus. Now he's been in the league since
two thousand and nine, twenty ten, coming off a year
where he averaged twenty two point eight, highest scoring average
he's had since the twenty twenty season. So you got
(18:09):
that going for you, averaging nearly nine assists per game.
Now he had a couple of no shows in the playoffs.
Those are really gonna stand out. Yeah, what stands out
about those? Oh we've seen that before.
Speaker 2 (18:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (18:21):
That's the thing about Harden is I don't understand how
teams keep paying him and thinking, yes, we are a
James Harden away from what he have. No team has
been a James Harden away from anything since he was
with the Rockets. Okay, so going back before twenty twenty,
Harden had a better year last year, and I thought
he would have. I got give him that, right, He
(18:41):
had a good year last year, but in the end
twenty two a game, lots of guys scored twenty to
a game. He's not the dynamic scorer he was, but
still a guy at the top of the league and assists.
James Harden had a good regular season, but every year
for James Harden ends the same way. He plays too
many minutes and in the playoffs he gets tired at
the end of game and his team falls short. Right,
(19:02):
this is how it goes with James Harden. And it's
not that James Harden stinks. It's not that James Harden suddenly, oh,
we can't play anymore. But James Harden now at forty
one million dollars a year, that's thirty percent of the
Clippers salary cap. And he's not good enough to be
taking up thirty percent. One guy taking up thirty percent
of your salary cap. I'm sorry, he's not that play.
(19:24):
Lebron's not that player anymore. He's taking up a bigger percentage.
But James Harden can't take up thirty percent of your
salary cap, which is what this deal is, right, salary
caps about one hundred and fifty five million. Harden's going
to be for. You can't have that. He's not that
guy anymore. Because every year with Harden ends the same. Hey,
he has some moments in the regular season, he plays
pretty well, we get to the playoffs and what happens.
(19:44):
What happened in the first round of the playoffs. He
had three horrible games, including seven points in Game seven.
He had a couple of really good games and two
games that were just kind of okay, right, for forty
one million dollars a year to be that guy, you
can't have that kind of performance in the playoffs, man,
That's what I mean. This is money that SGA gets that. Hey,
I got it. I have six out of seven games
are great and by one game that's not great is
(20:06):
at least an average kind of game where I score
twenty four and it seems like I had a bad game.
Harden's not worth it.
Speaker 2 (20:12):
He's not.
Speaker 1 (20:13):
Every season ends the same. It's ended the same with
him for years. But yet still he shows just enough
to think that, oh, guess what, give me money and
we can still be on the way up. And here
are the Clippers who are so desperate to stay relevant.
They're continuing on. We're gonna continue to build around Kawhi
even though we haven't done anything since he's been here.
(20:33):
And it didn't work with Paul George, now it's gonna
work with James Harden. You can't build around guys in
their mid thirties. You can't.
Speaker 2 (20:39):
You're not going farm. Sorry, you're not.
Speaker 1 (20:41):
Nobody in their mid thirties is leading you to an
NBA championship. They're not even to get you out of
the first round because it doesn't. It doesn't happen you
get on in the playoffs when your teams are younger,
more athletic. Why did the Pacers make it all the
way to the finals. They were younger, more athletic, right,
the Thunder younger, more athletic. These are not to you.
See the teams that were older Akers went out in
the first round. Man, this is how it goes, This
(21:03):
is how it works in sports. And the Clippers, yeah,
let's continue to be built behind Kawhi Leonard and James
Harden because this year is gonna be different. I'm sorry,
it's not. And when you're thirty five, I'll tell you
exactly what's gonna happen. You win forty five is games
and then you're losing the first round of the playoffs.
That's what the Clippers have signed up for. And apparently
that's okay with them, which I really I don't understand
(21:24):
how James Harden continues to convince teams that, yes, give.
Speaker 2 (21:28):
Me money and then give me a big role and
we can go.
Speaker 1 (21:31):
But no, I'm sorry, but his team hasn't gone anywhere
in years years it's been for him.
Speaker 3 (21:35):
Well, but you still need to pay someone to get
you to the dance. Still need to pay that car service.
And in this equation, as you lay it out, that's
what James Harden provides. He is gonna give you the
on ramp through your eighty two game regular season averaging
twenty two plus nearly nine assists some flexibility, right, it's
a one and the bonus contract. He can opt out
(21:56):
to try to do it again after this year player option.
Some of it guaranteed in the second year.
Speaker 1 (22:02):
But when we look at it, you're going off a
roster competitive losing seven games. To your point, he was
a no show there. You wish and hope, and this
is where Steve Balmer like he's been good for the
squad while he's there. He's been a pretty good leader.
The age and track history certainly lays up as you're
(22:26):
trying to figure out how much depth you can add.
Because they were a pretty good squad, right, Clippers were
a pretty fun watch this year. Some injury issues beset them.
As always, you still have one last year on Norman
Powell's deal before he's got to get paid, So still
some flexibility in terms of your roster and guys that
(22:47):
can step up and take a shot, and now it
becomes about the management of minutes, right, But in the
Western Conference there's no gimme because you still have to
play pretty damn hard to make sure you finished between
seven and ten. The way that it's set up this year,
because think about all the moves made by the teams
that were also rans. Outside of the Jazz, they're the Jazz.
(23:09):
Everybody else has made moves enough to where they're at
least gonna be competitive. Competitive is one thing, and to
try to be competitive, I get it. But to try
to go through and to go through the same exact
strategy when you've seen it not work.
Speaker 2 (23:29):
How does that make sense?
Speaker 1 (23:30):
I guess for me with Harden, it becomes the if
I go into the marketplace, whom I replacing him with
at a cost savings, that's gonna give me the same
output that he does. That's well that but that maybe
two players that are younger and and maybe a little
bit more dynamic that.
Speaker 2 (23:47):
Can do it.
Speaker 1 (23:47):
Look hard to Harden is still a good player, but
he's just not worth this, and he's can you know
how it's gonna and you know it's gonna break down
all of a sudden.
Speaker 2 (23:54):
Next year is gonna be the year. Next year, next
year is the year for No.
Speaker 1 (23:57):
I'm sorry, I've watched I've watched the James Harden movie
over it. I'm just saying, in terms of alternatives in
the markets.
Speaker 2 (24:05):
Fast the furious movies.
Speaker 1 (24:06):
Okay, No, What'scarre's gonna be a lot of great car chases,
death defying stunts, and they're all gonna make it at
the end, and to go back to the next one
and go to that.
Speaker 3 (24:13):
I just really enjoyed that that old Vin Diesel came
walking out to announce the next one, looking like he
was ready to go play some nose tack.
Speaker 2 (24:20):
Jason, You're not him? Do you think the Clippers paid
him a lot? Wait till the next signament? Two years? Hey,
the next toll? Hey?
Speaker 1 (24:27):
According to reports, next told Kevin Durant to beat it
when he started, Hey, what about it? Beat it?
Speaker 2 (24:32):
Okay, this is without a.
Speaker 1 (24:34):
Coach, Yeah, saying in the cost no more, in the
cost of the mind in the love shock baby. Now,
speaking of you guys taking up too much salary cap all,
Lebron James op it into his fifty two million dollar
option with the Lakers this weekend. And this was going
to happen. Nobody else is going to pay Lebron that money.
(24:55):
And yet Rich Paul and Clutch put out a statement
about Lebron that, hey, happy to be there, but Lebron
is quote watching the Lakers moves to make sure they
stay competitive.
Speaker 2 (25:06):
Jason careful, He's monitoring the show right now. Yeah, my Lebron. Okay, Rich,
what do you mean, Rich? What did you do mate
with that phone call with the the nets? Talk to me?
Speaker 1 (25:17):
Will you remember when Phil had the guy that I
was drowning and Phil saw it all. So the statement
comes out that while we understand the Lakers are moving
up to build behind Luca, Don said, hey, Lebron values
competing for a championship and this is what he wants.
And I saw this and I said, oh, this is
one of those lok statements, which means load of crap statements,
(25:41):
because all this is is Lebron trying to trying to
pull the wool over your eyes in which you still
feel that he has poll and has power over the Lakers,
which he does not. Right, he did for a long
time and he and Rich Paul they ran the Lakers. Hey, hey,
oh we want Russell Usbrook and said it well, let's
(26:01):
said now we want Russell Westbrook. Okay, and the Lakers
took a lot. They're just getting out from under that
Russell Westbrook decision a year ago. So yes, he did
have that kind of pull, but he doesn't anymore. He doesn't.
The Lakers would love to let him go. They would
love to have seen Okay, yeah, as good a player
as Lebron is. Again, Lebron's not worth forty percent of
(26:21):
your salary cap, which of course is what he's gonna take.
Not gonna take twenty million, you know for this year. No,
got to take fifty million. I want to win a championship.
I don't you take twenty million dollars. Jalen Brunson, in
his mid twenties, decided to take way less money because
he wants to win a championship. No, no, I'm not gonna
do that. Oh sorry, at the end of a career
which has seen you become one of the richest people
on the planet. No, no, I'm gonna keep fifty two
million because I'm worried about my optics, which he's always
(26:44):
been way too worried about his optics, right, So this
is why I want to take fifty million. You're not
worth it. No one's trading for you for this, No
one's gonna pay this salary for you. This is your
final year with the Lakers. I don't care what you
try to say about the Lakers. You're monitoring what they
want to do in free agency. You're stuck. You're there, right.
The Lakers are gonna do whatever they can with the
(27:05):
money they have because this is your last year, right,
you're monitoring them.
Speaker 2 (27:08):
If I'm Rob Plink, I stand up and go or
what Lebron?
Speaker 1 (27:11):
What are you gonna do? What are you gonna You
could demand a trade? Who's gonna trade for you? Fifty
two million dollars? No one's gonna trade if you know
what's gonna give us assets for you?
Speaker 2 (27:19):
No one? What do you think is gonna happen?
Speaker 1 (27:21):
You're not gonna play, You're gonna opt out?
Speaker 2 (27:23):
What are you gonna do?
Speaker 1 (27:24):
I'd stand to yell out of like he's like he's
on my walls, Get off, my lord?
Speaker 2 (27:27):
What are you gonna do? Lebron? Like? Really? What is
this is?
Speaker 1 (27:30):
Just I'm trying to control the optic that I still
have sway over the Lakers, and I really don't and Honestly,
if the Lakers could they said you could get out
from under Lebron without paying them any money and take
whatever money you have in free agency, they would say,
we will do that because this year is going to
be about what let's see what we have for this
year and are is what we have on the roster,
(27:51):
what we should be building around Luka Doncich with should
we building around Luca, do with Austin Reeves or not?
Should we building around with it with with with player
X y Z or not. This is how they're going
to take this season. And Lebron's gonna play his last
year at the Lakers, and if he wants to keep
playing after this year, it's gonna be thank.
Speaker 2 (28:06):
You very much.
Speaker 1 (28:07):
And he's gonna call the Cavaliers say hey, I want
to come home to finish.
Speaker 2 (28:10):
That's the only place he can go finish.
Speaker 1 (28:11):
I want to go home. I want to go home.
I was Akron, I was there. That was Akron then
I was going, I want to finish. That's how it's
gonna end for Lebro.
Speaker 3 (28:18):
What's funny is then where we had what was it
about two weeks ago, the whole Gripe session about ring
culture and blah blah blah blah blah. You know when
people can immediately bring up pictures of him sitting there
with Jim Gray and then the not two, not three,
not four and all that, and then you started chasing
around rings and rebuilding things as you wanted them and
(28:41):
all of that that suddenly you're trying to push that up.
If you were to take less money, he would have
to admit that that's what he's doing.
Speaker 2 (28:47):
Yeah, right.
Speaker 3 (28:48):
The other is, I mean, I can't wait till after
this year. If he drives to go back to Cleveland,
they have.
Speaker 1 (28:52):
To play for a mid level exemption with the roster
that they've got constructed, because he ain't getting dropped dollar
from that. And that was the most fun watching the
trade and Don Simmons money, Well.
Speaker 2 (29:05):
You never have to take a shot.
Speaker 1 (29:06):
But the idea that you have all these these teams
like yeah, he'd go to there as a contender.
Speaker 2 (29:10):
It's like, look, what has to happen.
Speaker 1 (29:12):
Half the team has to come back to match that
fifty three million dollars salary. None of it's happening. So
opting in, you made your point and to my my thing,
I go back to what Kobe Bryant said all those
years ago. It's their job to figure it out. It's
not my job. The union wouldn't be happy with me
taking less.
Speaker 2 (29:29):
I get it.
Speaker 1 (29:29):
We talked about it. You don't take ten million dollars less.
What's ten million dollars? You made a ton of money.
There's larger implication for one year at the end. Now
he could do.
Speaker 2 (29:37):
But the larger.
Speaker 1 (29:38):
Implications I get. But you also want to show your
clout by being one of the top guys. At fifty
million dollars. You can't have it both ways, and with
this squad, certainly you're in between a rock and a
hard place. We already had the Austin Reeves deal we
were talking about last week. Your next best guy is
Ruey Hachimora.
Speaker 2 (29:55):
I like him.
Speaker 1 (29:56):
I think he's a good player. What's he bringing in trade?
You just lost brook low Pez because you guys had.
Speaker 2 (30:00):
No money to spend. Now he's a he's a clipper.
Speaker 1 (30:03):
At two years, eighteen million dollars, that's pretty damn good
value for a guy, even if he's long in the
tooth to go play fifteen to twenty minutes a night.
But now you're gonna end up playing him multiple times
a year as he beats the hell out of you in.
Speaker 2 (30:17):
The low post.
Speaker 1 (30:18):
So you're stuck and Lebron tried to act all tough
and that's what this statement was.
Speaker 3 (30:24):
I mean, it's empty. It's a lot of empty threats
and a lot a lot of nonsense. Go ahead, opt out,
opt out, go ahead and see what the marketing place was.
Speaker 2 (30:32):
Yeah, you go see, you go see. You get yourself
a deal.
Speaker 1 (30:34):
You let me know, you let me know what trade
between let me rain and if he'd opted out.
Speaker 2 (30:39):
Who's rushing anywhere near that kind of around is no?
Speaker 1 (30:44):
And if he wanted a multi year deal, this tells
you flat out. The Laker said, we're not interested.
Speaker 2 (30:49):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (30:50):

Speaker 2 (35:03):

Speaker 7 (35:04):

very good.
