(00:24):
Fox Sports Radio. Greetings, Welcome inside final hour tonight, The
Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon, Live
from the Fox Sports Radio studios where. Uh, sometimes the
Tanner Scott experience is not for everyone. And by everyone
I mean Dodger fans. Well except for Onan Soto. It's

(00:48):
it with the experience. We overwhelmed and overpowered him. This
is why, this is why I said show, Hey, Tani
needs to close for the Dodgers when he can pitch again.
Don't pretend you didn't hear what Mike said about Sodo. There.
It's okay. It's not okay, you hid seven hundred and
fifty million. No, it's okay, and we're fifteen games over five. Yeah,

(01:09):
but you got goner Scott. Okay, hang on We're fifteen
games over five hundred one, So what about all the
other guys that can have the hit stick. It doesn't matter. Okay,
we recognize that he's not good. But now this just
demonstrated that one Sodo right now is going worse. Okay,
So but that's okay, right, I mean it'll be in November.

(01:32):
I'll be saying it'll be okay, it's over, the season's over.
It's okay, next place, it's okay. Look, here's the thing
about here's the thing about Soda, right, And we talked
about this, which on Paul Morosi a little bit right,
Mets leave the Dodgers right now, four to bottom of attending.
For some reason, Jose Castillo is in for the Mets.
I don't know why a guy with the seven to
twenty e ra is in to try to close out this,

(01:53):
I know. But anyway, you guys, here's a did we did.
We did, but it wasn't coors Field. He's not as
good away from course. So here's the thing about Wan Soda. Right,
everybody's everywhere about Wuan Sota, and David Ortiz has opinions.
Everybody's got opinions about about Jan Soda Soda will be
okay when right, I can't just say he's gonna be
okay Ave. He'll be okay when when he get when

(02:17):
he realizes the new norm of the fact that everybody's
not gonna universally love him like they did for the
last six years. Right, Soda was someone who hears all
the booze. He likes to play with the fans all
he love. He's one of those people that always is
are worried and concerned and knows about the image that
he has and what people think of him. And for

(02:39):
six years he was always my goodness. When this guy
gets to free agency, everybody wanted him. Everybody just drooled
at his at his power. Uh World Series with the Nationals.
Now all of a sudden, he's gonna be the guy
that brings the Padres into the World Series. And the
Padres got nervous, we're gonna lose him for nothing, so
they deal him. He goes to the Yankees. Everybody, youversely

(03:00):
love one Soto, love his talent, right, that's the thing.
But now he signed for seven hundred and sixty five
million dollars, and things change. The perception of you changes.
Now twenty nine teams hate you, and your fan base
loves you because when you sign for that money, you
become a target. People want to see you fail. They
outwardly want to see you fail. Usually with an MLB star.

(03:21):
I don't really care about a guy failing or not
failing unless it affects my team in the standings. But
everybody wants to see lots of people want to see
he wants to Soto fail because of the seven hundred
and sixty five million dollar price tag, right, That's how
it goes. But you know what, dude, you wanted the money.
This is where it is. You got to deal with that.
You got to live with the fact that people aren't

(03:41):
going to like you and that you're going to be
more polarizing than you ever have been in your career.
And when you understand that then it'll be okay. But
so much of it it's all just mental with him
now and where he sits with his status in the league,
and once he becomes that guy who was Okay, I understand,
people are going to say stuff, I'm not gonna win
everybody over. Okay, Okay, now I'm good. It's my new

(04:04):
normal for the next fifteen years because this is what
seven hundred and sixty five million dollars means this is
what it does to you. Yeah, until the next guy
signs for more. Then you get off the hook a bit. Right.
It's like every bad contract by an NFL quarterback until
the next guy signed. Then he becomes the target of
everybody's hate. Right. Matt Stafford's contract was the worst thing
in the world. Well, then this guy got signed. Trevor

(04:26):
Lawrence's contract was the word. Well, now it's brought brock
perty holds the mantle till the next contract gets signed, right,
because so many people he's a polarizing force. Is he great?
Is he a product of a system? All of that
decided where you are on that continuum. For Juan Soto,
you left the Yankees, you got this huge money, and

(04:46):
then you get the the silo and the cacophony of
voices talking about you know, well, the family wanted this,
and he wanted this, and well the only reason he
left and he left Aaron Judge, one of the most
beloved characters in the game. Right, so it becomes a
well he turned his back on that and went across

(05:07):
town for just a little bit more money. And it's
the Mets Yeah, look, that's just that's just how It's
just funny because you're in an era where maybe you
got it as many people hate the Mets without winning
as they do the Yankees just for for this. But yeah,
whenever you've got the biggest contract, the microscope is there
and you're gonna have to deal with it. And right

(05:27):
now he's not hitting his way out of it, which
means it gets deeper. And now that the Knicks are done,
guess what, there's more space on the back of the
fish wrap for the next two months before the Jets
and Giants get to camp. More his sucking than his
contract by people hate him. He makes it very easy
by sucking for people to make the same. But at

(05:49):
the same time, yeah, it's like, oh, he always he's
always hits. He's gonna be fun. But looking at looking
at him playing like he's hitting some balls, I'm like,
how is he not square that ball up? Right? It's
it's in his head where he's still not comfortable with
where he is. You'd think seven hundred and fifty million
dollars your swing would be great. You think if you
think it would be awesome, right, I think it'd be fantastic.

(06:11):
But but sometimes some guys can't tune that can't tune
stuff out. And I knew that it was affecting him
when you looked at the Yankees series where it was
such a big deal where he got booed going back
to the stadium. I don't think he was ever really,
I don't think ever really got over that. And and
and that's and and that's part of think he one
day he's got to at some point he will at

(06:33):
some point. If he doesn't, at some point he will, well,
I mean he's got to talk to Freddy Freeman. Fred
he can actually hit me. I cried about now was
I was in Atlanta and Clayton Curses said, well, I
hope he's happy here with us. I'm Freddy Freeman got over.
It was the Holy Fam can hit, right, But Soda
will get over at events. Sometimes it takes a little
bit more time. Okay, everything is fine. He's he'll be

(06:55):
fifteen years and seven hundred and fifty six million dollars
to figure out year by year fourteen. If he's not hitting,
I'll tell you he's no. He's good. He's gonna hit
at some point, right, he's going to hit. I just
don't know when that's gonna be. I'm no longer saying
it's gonna happen next week. It's gonna but at some
point he's going to hit. So okay, and while we're
fifteen games over five hundred, I'm okay with that. If

(07:16):
we were fifteen games under five right, I would say,
what the hell has happened? What are we doing? But
we're fifteen games over got the second best record in baseball.
I think we can deal with Juan Soto not hitting
a little bit long. Yeah, but that's the best part
of it, because what happens when they actually had he
has to press, when there is actually wade on the
advats versus no. I'll tell you as as see How
I Die insess As my gym teacher freshman and sophomore

(07:41):
year high school, mister Williams would always say, that's a
story for another day. I really hoped he had a
better servitor. That's the story, Charlie Williams. Yeah, he's Charlie Williams.
He said, that's a story for another day. That Charlie
Williams like he would tell you, He would tell you
something like he would give you some kind of crazy
thing like and then and then there's the top when
the fire department showed up here at school and escorted

(08:02):
the two teachers out. What but that's a story for
another day. No, no, No, that's a story for right now.
What you mean that's a story for another day? Drugs
like he would be he would be telling a different story.
It's say, and then the police came. You know who
was in the back of that car. Let's just say
he's a principal. Now that's a story for another day.
That's either mister mackew from South Park or it's the
opening to an episode of Red Shoe Diary. I don't

(08:25):
know which way we're going. You guys played dodgeball with
mister hat. No, we stopped playing dodgeball in middle school.
I love dodgeball, but you know, we didn't do it.
High school was always just the teacher would take attendance
and you would change into your shorts. You would hang
out in the bleachers for you know, for what I
thought he was going to say, they didn't know how
to inflate a ball back then. No, no, no, The
last time we really had to do stuff in Jim

(08:47):
was middle school, and it was done dodgeball was great
because I was now and I'm not saying I tell
you how good I was in hockey and softball. Come
on with hands, I'll say, no, no, no, no. Here's the thing.
I couldn't throw the ball really well because the dodgeball
was too big for my hand. But I was the
best dodge I don't know that there's ever been in
the history of dodgeball a better catcher at dodgeballs than me.

(09:09):
Because the guys in the and the other classes could
just sling it and the ball would hiss and I
would catch it and they'd be out of the game,
like what the hell just happened? Like I was. I
was so good. Did the hands or did you bring
it into the bottom?

Speaker 2 (09:21):
No?

Speaker 1 (09:21):
No, no, I'd catch it. It would hit my stomach and
I would catch it and hold it there, catch it
in your mouth like a big mac. There was one time,
there was one time. I'll tell you this. Seventh grade, Okay,
Darrence Gillard, Right, Darrence Gillard. He was the best athlete
in school and he could throw it. And he would
throw the ball and everybody would just back out of
the way because he and on me. The ball would
hiss when it would go speedball. By I mean it

(09:42):
would it would his it would hit. It would go
so hard it would hit the wall behind you, and
people would get out of the way because bouncing back
if it hit you, it was really big. Butt hit
the wall and came back. If it's the wall, it
does nothing. A great strategy. And he could throw. And
I remember one time in seventh grade and it was
getting down to the end, and of course he's in

(10:02):
it near the end, and he was just and he could,
like I said, so he throws. I'm like okay, and
I knew and they knew that I could catch really well,
and now you were blind, and he knew he had
to get me out, and he knew he had to
get me out. And he throws one. And of course
there's like two girls in front, and they dive out
of the way, and I'm like, oh my god. And
it comes to me and I catch it, and it
knocks me back into the water fountain, like the water

(10:24):
fountain sticking out of the back, and I catch it
and I hold on and I hit the water fountain
and like my eyes blur for a second, but I
hold onto the ball, and they're like, oh my god.
He called, my god, it he's out and he's going, oh,
he couldn't believe I caught it. And I get up
and I'm like ready to throw and I do the
cool thing like yeah, I don't need to throw me
to give it to somebody else, And I give it
to the person. I'm going, I can't bend over it.

(10:44):
Go go throw it, go throw it. And I had
a bruise on my back for so long and my
mom saw it like a week later, Go, when did
that happen? I go, last week? She was, Why didn't
you tell me last week? You could have had this spleen?
Could have butted? I go, yeah, I could have, but
I got Darren's out. It was really good, mom. I
caught it and it knocked me back in the water fountain.
I always liked that. Randomly, when you'd get injured, suddenly

(11:07):
someone would know something about a spleen. Yeah, because they
heard that I was a nurse. Was a nurse. Yeah,
but the spleen coming. Yeah, it was taste my spleen.
I mean because that was off of married with children now, Bundy,
I still remember that. The girls Dijanet Myers and Alison
Bruno dove out of the remember all these people because
it was a big play day, talked to me about

(11:28):
it for the weed in general, if you stack the
cash in front of me and said name people from
your your grade school class, like school has been disbanded.
I don't remember any of these people. I went to
school with both them through high school, so I knew
them and they dove out of the way to But
that like, for a week on the player, I was
like a hero. They were like, let's see if you
can catch mine. I'm no, I don't want I'm not
gonna do that. I'm not going to do that. I'm

(11:49):
not going to do it. I'd say I saved my
heroics for the gym you catch. But that was.

Speaker 3 (11:57):
That.

Speaker 1 (11:58):
I was still I was only like five one. What
I was only like five? Girls didn't let no, I
needed to get I need to get to the big
hulking five seven, five eight. I was through most of
high school before I peaked at five nine In college,
height is just a number, yeah, but not when in
seventh grade. Now, when you do that, you gotta be uh, well, now,

(12:21):
if you're if you're shorter than most girls, technically they're
gonna say Yeah, that's great, you're the funny guy. But
I like so and so because he's six one or
he's what. Yeah, no, you got seventh grade with middle school.
It's not anybody's friend, really middle school. But middle school
really was not my friend when it came to that. Now, dodgeball,
I was great. I mean some legendary status. Like if

(12:41):
dodgeball like is a thing now, like if I could
be the designated catcher, like I would because I just
knew I could get people out, I would get people out,
and that's how it would go. Like I was that good.
I was just that good. I couldn't throw. And I
even went to a point where I'm like, what if
I just held the ball on the crook of my
arm and tried to throw it put like a high
line or like a highlight. Yeah, no, I was really good, man,

(13:03):
I was really catch And then that's the thing is
like watching watching Dodgeball the movie, I'm like, that's not
any of the rules, Like you can't you can't just
hold on to it. You we don't play with multiple ball,
But what the hell is this? Man? Man against everything?
I was a purist man. I was a dodgeball purist.
The red kickball. That was it. This took it to
a next level. Man, I did, Man, I did, and

(13:23):
I was grabbed telling you I was great. I was outstanding.
Couldn't throw what chapter never learned how to fit, never
could throw. Like every time I would throw, I would
always throw it like right in front of somebody who
could catch, like at their feet to try to get
them to dive because they wouldn't catch it. But I
could never throw it straight because I I they would.
It would be an easy catch. The worst worst dodgeball
person on the team would catch it because I just

(13:45):
couldn't hold the ball well enough to throw it. Now
seems like you could spend some time to figure that out.
Baseball or softball, I could throw like seventy I could,
But the dodgeball I just couldn't do it. Man, you
could probably I probably could. Hey Frostburg, my internet's down.
Can you tell me how the Mets Dodgers game ended?
I missed it on the TV. What happened down to?

Speaker 3 (14:02):
So?

Speaker 1 (14:02):
I can't? Oh? Really? Okay? Do we need to go
to Steve for for nothing? How did the Mets Dodgers
game end? Can you tell me, Harmon? I missed it.
Keep telling me the Mets Dodgers game ended. I missed
it the mound, Oh okay, staring down, staring him down
the whole way. It's like, how dare you that that

(14:23):
ball was supposed to have eyes back up the middle?
On Tommy Edmund bobblehead night, he grounds out to the
picture with a tying run on second Mets win Mets
when he that's okay, I get a small measure of
revenge for the ten hits, ten runs, ten RBIs from
the NLCS last year. That's all right, like a small measure,
small tiny measure. Really sad end to Bobblehead night, though,

(14:48):
I think it's okay. It's an okay night for me.
Were there any gold? You gotta be a Tommy Edmund bobblehead?
Ye oh? Target practice? No, no, no, it's fine, I could okay,
I'd be heard. It was met with love, all right.
So so we got through the family, We got through this,
and I got to with my dodgeball glory days, patches

(15:10):
of hula hand dodger wrench dodgeball. But coming up next,
can we find any of these people to corroborate these stories?
I just gave you Janet Myers and Alison Bruno can
carry Chapman, Mike Smilowitz, Steve Engel. You think I'm making
up these days, I would say many Randall, Tom Houseman,
Jerry Kuzman. I just give you old Mets. I caught

(15:34):
this guy, Willie randolphs ball. Let's see interim school principal.
But coming up next, we get into the biggest NFL
story of the day where a high profile coach opens
his mouth and he really shouldn't have. That's next Mets.

Speaker 4 (15:47):
Fox be sure to catch live editions of The Jason
Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern,
seven pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (15:58):
Fox Sports Radio. That Jason Smith Show with my best friend,
Mike Harmon es. We'll get to Dion Sanders in a second. However,
we are this much closer to MLB history Francisco Lindor
Homers for the Mets. Tonight. Mets hold on to beat
the Dodgers four to three and ten innings, make it
twenty seven straight games that the Mets have won since

(16:23):
Francisco Lindor Win Francisco Lindor Homers. Right, heames back to
the middle of last year, the Mets have won twenty
seven straight games in which he is homered in. The
all time record is twenty nine. Carl Ferrillo back with
the Brooklyn Dodgers in the fifties, Dodgers won twenty nine
games in a row in which he hit a home run.
Lindor is too shy of that. After tonight's game and

(16:46):
making everybody sweat hitting the top of the first with
nobody on, like, okay, a lot of golf left. But
Mets hold on to win twenty seven straight games they
have won. That means Jason the home run, you know
what that means? What's that the Mets have to win
two more games in which he hits a home run.
It's not likely two more games the rest of the year. Well,
he's just saying they don't wait in games unless he
hold on. I'm so he's got a hover these next

(17:07):
time time. But let me let me take a look,
because you know, I really I want to make sure
I'm I'm up to speed on this. I want to
take a look at the standings in Major League Baseball
and just see where the Mets are, what their record is,
and what the Dodgers record is. A second would look
at the SNS so June thirty eight and twenty two,
Dodgers thirty six and twenty four. So the Mets have
one more games, and the Mets have won what three

(17:31):
out of four against the Dodgers. Now in the last week,
three out of four. We know we hang a banner.
We beat this Dodgers team, like like five out of
seven week we hang a banner. We had July fourth,
we hang that banner. Beat the Dodgers in the season,
sire hot dogs for all, get your free Mets won
five of seven from the Dodgers. Your own fireworks, well,

(17:53):
I mean they canceled them last Friday. Things went too late,
potential for inclement weathers and no fireworks. What if I
bought it because of the fireworks display? That's okay, What
if I wanted all of that kind of stuff? I
got nothing. Best record in the National League now, best
record and we can't even play highlights. So your best
player because he has none? It does what Francesco Lindorza,

(18:14):
that's got to be the plans that ground out. Get
Patrick on that. No, no, no, just because just because
you're getting paid a lot of money doesn't mean you're
the best playing player, just like it. Just like in
radio and television, just because you're successful doesn't mean you're
any good at what you do. Okay, just understand what
the paychecks. I don't care if it's not my money.
Harmon's been saying that for ten not my money. I
don't care. It's not my money. Steve Cohen's not calling

(18:36):
me up, going, hey, I only made thirty seven million
dollars this morning? By noon? Do we have to continue
help me out a little bit here? That that is
the grand thing though when it comes to sports, right,
unless you can prove to me that it precluded you
from making a move that would help your roster substantively.
And this is where we get into salary cats, hard caps,

(18:57):
these aprons. In the end, whatever else, there are some
some rules and mechanisms in place. Otherwise it's a figure
it out right. Smooth out the money, work with the agents,
work with the players, and take care of it. Like
I'm not gonna cry when a guy gets paid a
bunch of money, because telling me then you can't keep
these other ten guys like no, especially in the NFL,

(19:20):
like eighty percent of your roster, you're paying nothing so
don't tell me these five guys screwed over the rest
of theirs. Not the way it works, that's just the
way rosters are constructed. But anyway, for one Soto, the
long long road. Yeah, two months have been fairly miserable. Sure,
I hope he's all right, but certainly stuff. The other

(19:42):
thing is when we look at these scheduled the fact
that you say, hey, they want three out of four
and whatever. They've still not played the Padres. That's okay, Okay,
the Dodgers twice. It's okay, we got the Dodgers twice
saying it's June. And then the Dodgers having him played
in the division. Okay, it's dumb. They'll get there. It'll
get there, It'll get the hundred and six. Two games
will happen. Yeah, Frostburg, is it every June second where

(20:05):
you hang the standing matter? Uh? No, we'll like it.
Usually June is not our best month. But you know,
I'm up for June being a better month this year.
But that's why you do it at the beginning, because
it's not should we put out a little flag pole
out front of the studio so he could hang, so
he could go out there and raise his little flag
down one two out of three. We did it, everybody.

(20:28):
We did it. Now speaking of doing it, Dion Sanders
did it today. Oh we shouldn't have. Look this is
this falls under the category of what I've been saying
for the last ten years. Right. There's very few tenants
or things I subscribe to as a rule, because things

(20:49):
change over time, and certain things it was a good
idea ten years ago or something that was correct one
hundred percent of the time ten years ago, maybe fifty
percent of the time. Now there's very tenants that existed
the entire time that the last twenty years I've been
doing sports talk radio. But one of them is this,
and I say it all the time. We say it
a few times a year. The next time an athlete's

(21:12):
family member or significant other gets involved in their career,
will and it's a good thing, will be the first
time that happens. Because every single time go back, every
not just becomes a person I like, look like Mama
Kelsey has been fine and Don of McNabb's mom was
great when she was on the you know, in the
super commercials. Congratulations to Josh Allen on getting married to

(21:35):
the star of Sinners and the mcu Hailey Steffeld. But
the Ring, We're gonna kill every single one of you.
But was the Ring cursed? Remember the Rain? Oh yeah, yeah,
sure sure. So like we were talking about the Madden curse,
is the Rain curse? Is that the wedding? Jason uh No,
I think Aaron Rodinson, Jets, Larry David, Larry Davis that

(21:56):
the wedding? Really? Oh wow? He skipped the Knicks game
to go tripped to Josh Allen going down. I can
charge to trip you because all Win Mooregan Jets killed
Carl so he became the I gotta wash my hands again.
The next time a family member significant other gets involved
in someone's in an athlete's career and it's a good thing,
will be the first time because it never happens. It's
always bad news for the athlete. And Deon Sanders did

(22:19):
it again. Today. He goes on a podcast with the
Sante Samuels got a weekly podcast, and he decided now
was the time to start talking about Hey, I disagree
with all the stories that were out there about Shador
Sanders that he showed up to all the pre draft
meetings not ready. He came into a couple of meetings
with headphones on and around his head. Because Shador Sanders

(22:42):
falls to the fifth round. One of the main reasons
is that all the pre draft visits that he had,
teams didn't like how he presented himself. Now, Deon Sanders
decided to say today in the podcast with the Sante
Samuel that he doesn't believe any of that stuff happened
when it went on.

Speaker 3 (22:56):
I know it was a lot of rumors about the
next level. I can't see that. Yeah, I can get
the next level. I think a couple of people who
may have taken shot to my kids, they.

Speaker 1 (23:05):
Were afraid that I would go.

Speaker 3 (23:07):
That's what the shots came from.

Speaker 1 (23:08):
All you gotta do is just sit back and listen.
Anyoe don't want to do that.

Speaker 3 (23:11):
They want to create these narratives and create these stories
and then attach them to a kid that ain't never
done nothing wrong.

Speaker 1 (23:18):
Yeah, how does that make you feel? When you see
your colleges, are you going in on you?

Speaker 5 (23:24):
Man?

Speaker 2 (23:24):
Like?

Speaker 1 (23:24):
How does that make you feel? Idea? Man, you have
no idea.

Speaker 3 (23:28):
We've always been in front of the camera, so they
know how to navigate, they know how to handle themselves,
and you're not gonna catch them in no fool, red
and no mess. You're not when you sit up there
and say something like he went in a meeting unprepared,
like dude, your door saying us, who's had six different coordinators,
who has still function and went up, leveled up every

(23:50):
time we brought somebody new in. And you're gonna tell.

Speaker 1 (23:53):
Me every situation.

Speaker 2 (23:54):
You're gonna tell me he had on headphone through you
a dog, your kids a dog, and dogs gonna always
rise to the top, you know what I mean.

Speaker 1 (24:01):
That's what I believe.

Speaker 3 (24:01):
You know what I mean.

Speaker 1 (24:03):
It did hurt.

Speaker 3 (24:05):
The Bible says God uses the foolish things to confound
the wise. So it was some foolish stuff that went on,
but you know what, that that gave them something.

Speaker 1 (24:14):
That they needed. Okay, first things first, if none of
this happened, we would have known this by now. It
would have come up during the pre draft visits because
Deon Sanders would have wanted to stop this narrative about Shador.
But it did not. And to say it now after
it's all said and done, really, I don't think people
are making stuff up, right, I don't think. I don't

(24:34):
think people are and and the reason this was a
bad idea is look, I get that. I've heard all today.
I've heard the different points. You know, Dion is either
talking like he's Shaudor's dad and he's and he's trying
to protect him. And I understand all of this. But again,
go back to what I said a couple of minutes ago.
Whenever somebody's parent, significant other, wife, husband gets involved in

(24:54):
their career, it's never good. It's never good. And all
Deon Sanders has done now is ramped up this story
that oh, Shador had issues and there's a reason why
he was taken in the fifth round right because it
was done. He's in Browns camp. And what did I
say last week? What was the big thing, the biggest
thing I could say to Shador Sanders right now? Be
about football. Don't worry about the rolls roy stuff. Keep

(25:16):
doing what you're doing. Be about football, because if you're
about football, when it comes time in the fall, you
will be backing up Joe Flacco. And if you don't
win the job out right by October, you will step
in because people will want to see you play, right,
if you have that talent, Just be about football. But no,
here's Deon Sanders bringing up the knuckleheaded stuff again. That

(25:36):
doesn't do anything to help shod Door Sanders, because you
know what happens now. Now this story is back in
back in the limelight where people, oh, yeah, remember all
the stuff that happened Shador had headphones on. People didn't
like it. Now teams are going to defend themselves and
they're gonna say, no, this absolutely happened. We have video
of him walking in with a pair of headphones, or
we have video of him not liking when we asked

(25:57):
him to break down a series of plays. He didn't
like that, we put him on the spot. All he's
doing is making these stories come up again, right, And
why is this a big deal? Because yes, it takes
away from the focus on the field. And a bigger
deal is that now if Shador centers. Let's say he
doesn't win the job and he's a fifth round pick,
and the Browns decide, if you're not winning the job,
we're gonna let you go. Right, We're gonna go with

(26:19):
Flacco and Dylan Gabriel and whatever it is. I can't
believe they're gonna do, but just in case it happens,
Right now, what are you worried about now that your
son has to latch on someplace else. But instead of hey,
he was all about football for the offseason in the
training camp. What happened when he was still playing? Oh
we got that story again. Dion steps up and he
says stuff about his son and you know what, Yeah,

(26:41):
we can get another fifth round pick that was cut
to come in and be a developmental quarterback. All he's
doing is hurting the optic of Shador Sanders. He's hurting
him trying to win the job with the Browns now
and he's also taking his long term prospects and hurting
them because if he's got to go someplace else, teams
are gonna go, whoa, we backed off this guy in
the because of all the knuckleheaded stuff. And Dion Sanders

(27:02):
is the biggest sports dad, right. Remember Dion was there
as teams I don't want him to go to Well
guess what, some of those teams maybe looking for a
quarter but they're gonna say we don't want him because
you come along with it. Right. So now he's hurt
his present and he could potentially have hurt his future.
He just has to stay. I get it. I understand
you want to be there, but your son's in the NFL.
Now you know what the NFL is. You got to
back off and let things go. All you've done with

(27:24):
bringing this up again is bring up a storyline that
Shador Sanders wants to move past so we can win
a job in the National Football League. Well, because the
father's son's success in Colorado had its level of romanticism
to it, right of let's let's go through because there's
always just that question of helicopter parenting, hindering versus help
and whatever else and success. Now the fact that he

(27:46):
points out and look, he's succeeded even though we had
six different offensive coordinators, Like, let me probe that a
little bit more. That's that's the fault. What happened in
each of those circumstances to necessitate shuffling out to a
new guy just asking questions? Right, if you're going through
guys at that rate, that means there's philosophically you didn't
find common ground with six different guys. Is that you

(28:08):
is that Chador some combination between right, that's the question
that that comment begets. But to your point, Shador's in camp,
the initial reports were glowing, Right, people couldn't fall over
their keyboard fast enough to talk about how well he
was performing in seven on seven's and look at him
throwing against air. He's a wizard, all of those things.

(28:30):
So it's all positive reviews. It's all you know, fun
and Flacco saying I'm not here to mentor you know,
doing one of those bits. I'm trying to play as
long as I can. So you get this little built
up rivalry thing that could come into camp and it's
a positive story about going out and winning the job,
and now this squirrels in. Now. The other part that

(28:51):
this hurts is the fact that, really for football related purposes,
you've got rag Now's retirement kind of a big deal, right,
big time contributor and the lynchpin and like centerpiece of
that Detroit attitude and offensive line. That's a big loss.
Okay for football purpose. The only other thing getting oxygen

(29:11):
right now is is Aaron Rodgers gonna sign them. Other
than that, it's a bunch of nothing, which means this
breathes a giant like this is like watching back draft. Okay,
you let it whoa No, that's it. Here we are again.
Did the fire look at you? It looked at me.
Fire looked at you and it started cackling. Did you
hook up with Jennifer Jason Lee on top of a
big rig before it went out? Twice? Two times? Okay,

(29:35):
so the fire looked at you. It looked at you.
The best thing Deyon can do just stay. I know
it's against every bit. Someone who wants the spotlight, who
has wanted it for him and shador. Now, Oh the
coverage isn't what we thought it was. Oh, now I'm
gonna talk about it now, dude, this is where you're at.
Walk Away from it. You started it, you started walk
away from you. Gotta walk away, gotta do it, walk away,

(29:56):
walk away. Time now to find out what's trending in
the wide world. A sports from a guy who's been
called to Tommy Edmund of Fox Sports Radio because neither
of them got a hit in the tenth inning with
a runner on base. It's Steve Disager and it's my
bobblehead night. It is congratulations, sweet.

Speaker 5 (30:11):
All the road teams won seven to zero in Major
League Baseball, including the Mets winning the late game at
Dodger Stadium in ten innings four to three. Show Aotani
of La hit his twenty third homer hit the tying
sack fly bottom of the ninth, but the Mets have
won eight of nine. Dodger shortstop Mookie Betts was out
again with the broken toe. He expects to return soon,
maybe tomorrow night. But the Dodger record over the last

(30:33):
month or so is thirteen and fourteen. And let's just
say the closer has problems. Tanner Scott took the loss tonight.
He has allowed twelve runs in the last two weeks. Meanwhile,
San Diego won in ten innings, won nothing at San Francisco,
ruining a great eight innings on the mound for the Giants.
Logan Web no decision for him. The Giants offense twelve

(30:55):
left on base. Minnesota sent the A's to a seventh
straight loss, ten to four win, scored six times in
the top of the second Iron Bruck Buxton with five
RBIs in this game. The Ace have lost eighteen of
their last nineteen games. Meanwhile, Kerrie Carpenter of Detroit three homers,
five RBIs another Tigers victory thirteen to one at the

(31:16):
White Sox. Jack Flaherty the win Detroit's record forty and
twenty one. The Angels were seven six winners at Boston
six runs top of the first for the Halos, including
three early homers won by Mike Trout, who had three
at three RBIs. Milwaukee won its eighth straight game three
two at Cincinnati Brewers DH Christian Yelich the NL player
of the week with a solo homer. He did play

(31:37):
despite being hit by a pitch Sunday suffering a bruised hand.
And Colorado ended an eight game losing streak with a
six to four comeback win at Miami. Attendance listed at
five thousand, eight ninety four. The Rockies on the road
had been three and twenty eight this year. Yankees closer
Luke Weaver reportedly will go on the injured list with
a bad hamstring. The Maritors will retire the number fifty

(31:59):
one for both Randy Johnson next year and Eachiero Suzuki
this year. The WNBA off tonight three games on Tuesday.
The NBA Finals start Thursday. Pacers forward Jaris Walker is
out this week at least with an ankle injury. The
Utah Jazz new president of basketball operations is Austin Ange,
who is assistant GM in Boston. The finalist to be

(32:20):
head coach I in Phoenix are reportedly two Cavaliers assistants,
Johnny Bryant and Jordan Ott. The Stanley Cup Final starts Wednesday,
Florida at Edmonton. Panthers captain Alexander Barkoff won the Selke
Trophy as the NHL's best defensive forward. He's won at
three times in the.

Speaker 1 (32:36):
Last five years.

Speaker 5 (32:37):
Number two seed Coco Golf winner, fourth round match at
the French Open, and at the Women's College World Series
semifinal wins for Texas and Texas Tech Pick to you.

Speaker 1 (32:46):
Thanks Steve Oh, Jason Smith, Mike Harmon live from the
Fox Sports Radio Studios. Coming up next. One NBA superstar
that needs to rethink his next big career decision. It's
next Jason and Mike Fox.

Speaker 4 (32:58):
Be sure to catch live a day of The Jason
Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern,
seven pm Pacific.

Speaker 1 (33:06):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Harmony, Met's Fort Dodgers three. In case you
didn't get that score, Case you didn't got that highly
important score, I want to make sure Frostburg. Oh what
did you say, I didn't get it? Yeah? Ben Mallero,
Met's mets for Dodgers three, Met's four Dodger Street just okay,
you can turn Jason's Mike on. Steph Curry has shown

(33:28):
that in the NBA can pretty much do anything he
wants to. Whoever. I'm going to say, resist the temptation
of what you want to do when you're playing days right.
I thought you were going to say, make a shot
in a critical moment at the end of the game. No, no,
not make a shot. Get a shot off at the
end of the game. Because he can't get his own
shot off. There's one basketball. But today, Steph was on

(33:50):
CNBC doing an interview earlier in the day and it
ended with a really interesting thing. It's kind of gained
a lot of attention is that he was asked, Hey,
when you're playing days over, do you see yourself potentially
becoming a broadcaster? And this is what Steph Curry had
to say, day you retire from basketball, every studio show
is going to ask you to join their show. Would
you consider doing that? Oh?

Speaker 2 (34:11):
For sure, I've seen guys. You know, some of your
peers have gone through it. You know a lot of
x NBA guys who are behind the booth. Now, whether
it's commentating, whether it's in studio. You've seen what Tom.

Speaker 1 (34:23):
Brady's doings going to do it the day he retires.

Speaker 2 (34:26):
To Draymond's already got his past set up. I would
be more patient. I think about what would be the
right opportunity for me, because anything that I do, I
want to be all in on it. And right now,
just doing your homework on, like you said, the different
pathways and options that might be available.

Speaker 1 (34:43):
So they're only a two seater boat again, different from
the Stefon Diggs boat video just a little bit, a
little bit. So well we're talking about famous boat videos.
Lots of folks just figuring out who and what is
a CARDI b right about that, and they're saying, where
if you've been Steph Curry, resist this impulse to be

(35:07):
on television. You are too nice for NBA broadcasting, all right.
NBA broadcasters and analysts and athletes that have jumped into
behind the microphone, they are killers, man, They are absolute
killers on the air. They go after people, they start,
they start back and force they provide content Like these guys,

(35:29):
they know what they're doing. They are out there not
caring what people say about them. And here's the thing.
To be very successful what you do, you gotta be
okay with being polarizing. And all these guys that are
out there are polarizing. Whether it's Shack or Barkley or
Draymond Green who's doing stuff now, or Kendrick Perkins, all
of these guys are killers. Man. They go out there.

(35:49):
I don't care what if someone's gonna text me about
what I say. If you suck, I'm gonna tell you
suck if you did this, and then I'm gonna tell
you that. Steph is someone who enjoys and credible Q rate,
an incredible amount of popularity, who has a lot of
interest outside of the game of basketball. He's gonna show
up and really cut through and be somebody who's okay
with lighting guys up when they play badly, when they

(36:11):
play part. Is he gonna be that guy. He's not
gonna be that guy. Right, They'll be interested in him
right away. Oh with Steph will see what he has
to say. Look at Tom Brady this year, right, Brady's
got other interests outside of broadcast. Right, I'm the owner
of the Raiders. I'm doing all I got TV twelve. Yes,
I signed this big deal with Fox and Brady has
not been what was expected because either he's a little

(36:32):
too worried, still trying to find his broadcast voice, but
he's not overly critical. He doesn't tell great stories. And
you know the the sometimes stories that he told that
were a little bit on edge when he would do
a podcast once in a while, they're not here with
the broadcast. So that's why next year he's got to
really come with it, because this is what you expect
from guys. You gotta be okay with criticism. You gotta
be okay criticizing people in saying things. And Steph, are

(36:55):
you telling me he's gonna be that guy? He's not.
He's doing that's saying from from almost fame when Kate
Hudson tells William, you're too nice for rock and roll, Right, William,
you're too nice for rock and roll. You're too nice
for what it's going to be to make headlines every day. Again,
these are killers who are out there every day going
I am gonna light things up, and they become big

(37:15):
content drivers. And it is fun seeing these guys do
this on TV. Man, it is fun. Stuff's gonna come
out there and be that guy. I don't see it. Yeah,
a lot of the stuff when it becomes the veteran
players arguing about things, I have wonder if it's not,
like you know, some of those old debate shows. I'll
let you decide who might have been on either side
of the table where it's this side of w W
E k fabe, Like, all right, which side are you

(37:38):
taking on this one? No, you got to pick first?
Last time? How close are you to this guy? Not
very Okay, So I'll go after him so you can
defend him because he's a better friend to you. Like
that's how I feel a lot of those comed again,
do you know so and so?

Speaker 3 (37:52):
No?

Speaker 1 (37:52):
All right, that's cool. I don't worry about it. But but
I still but I don't doubt that in a lot
of these production meetings, like how close you did this guy?
And then when you have the thirty seconds of analysis,
notice which guy talks about a certain player and which
guy's just sitting there going Yeah, for Steph Curry, you're
gonna be front and center because you'd get the mega,

(38:13):
mega dollar deal, et cetera. I think it'd be fun
to pair him up with Draymond because you see that
you can get a word in edgewise or is dream.
I'm gonna say, you got all the you got everything
on the court. I'm gonna take charge right now. But
I can also see Steph going. I've been listening to
you for fifteen years. Let me tell you what you

(38:33):
punch guys out of pract I got years. Hey, if
you hadn't punched out Jordan Poole, we would have won
another ring if we could. You hadn't got yourself injected
all those years ago. The legend of Lebron that wouldn't
even be talking about having me all about me if
I maybe it's there, just don't like the circuit. If
I thought that could happen, I would agree with you.
But he's not gonna do that. Maybe he's just there.

(38:55):
And Ernie Johnson could be the guy that needle that
he's look you see you see that, don't look at
all sports. And this is the error we're in in
that in the last ten fifteen years. Okay, the hot
takes work. All the athletes coming out, they know we
gotta bring it, we gotta throw fire, right, that's how
you get noticed. And it's in most sports that's the way,
But in the NBA especially man, it is so much

(39:15):
fun seeing all these alphas go back and forth and
saying things, well, wait, do you see next year when
the inside the NBA, they're gonna be feuding with everybody
on ESP He'll be feuded with Stephen A. Smith and
Pat McAfee. I'll be feuting with Linda Kohane. I'll be
footing with everybody just watching, not gonna care. Yeah, but again,
most of that seems more conflated and uh inflated for ratings,
qurating and headlines. Doesn't matter. You have That's what you

(39:39):
have to be if you're gonna cut through and not
be some steph what do you think? Well, Karl Anthony
Twns says he want to be an actor or a
cat had a tough series. We made a tough series.

Speaker 4 (39:48):
Was terrible.

Speaker 1 (39:48):
Defensively, you saw you hata know'll be screaming at him,
going dude, what are you doing? Like you gotta be
able to be okay with stuff like that? Is Steff
really gonna damage his reputation and damage that optic by
by real going after guys? But that's not stuff. But
that's the question, is it damaged or enhance it? The
other side all, he was the silence your assassin all

(40:08):
these years. That's a thirty five million dollar a year.
A question you're gonna find out by yourself. Gamble, gamble,
gamble die. Exit out about a Fresco swollen dome from Mike,
I'm Jason ben Mallis. Next, This is Fox
