Speaker 2 (00:22):
Let's give you're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:28):
Hello, Welcome inside final hour tonight the Jason Smith Show
with my bas friend Mike Harmon, as we get set
for a Fourth of July, fireworks, baseball, hot dogs, apple pie, Chevrolet,
(00:50):
all the big things, all of those things and then
some I like that Chevrolet is still part of that
after all these years. Baseball, hot dogs, apple pie, and Chevrolet. Okay?
Speaker 3 (01:00):
Actually done? That is that?
Speaker 1 (01:02):
That is advertising that is effective because it stayed in
my head.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
That's true.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
Yeah, Baseball, catch.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
It away we go. Ye. You know a lot of
those old jingles were also written by Barry manilone. Now
I don't think that one was.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
But get a Chevy Chevrole coope and eat a hot
dog and a slice of have some pie and and
more pie and okay, uh he.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
Did stuck on band aid. You deserve a Break Today?
Speaker 1 (01:38):
Did he really write McDonald's He wrote all of this
stuff really yeah, wow, like he could have He could
have been even he could have turned those into real songs.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
Yeah. He and Randy Newman wrote a lot.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
Like you could turn you Deserve a Break Today into
a mcdont from a McDonald's jingle into something that's hey, man,
I do deserve a break today. I deserve I deserve
a break today. They do it all for me and
I deserve a break like. That's a that's a big
self empowerment song. That could it could have been a
big thing. I mean, he sang the doctor Pepper. I'm
a pepper, You're a Pepper was written by Randy Newman,
(02:14):
but he sang it.
Speaker 4 (02:16):
Doctor Pepper, Imperial Hallway Man drinking that diet Doctor Pepper
on the Highway.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
Is that how we do we we bring it all together?
I mean, because we certainly played that last night after
the Dodgers came and took that win from the White Sox.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
I love zero sugar, diet doctor.
Speaker 3 (02:41):
Boy, the voices inside your head rolling.
Speaker 4 (02:44):
Out cherry vanilla, diet Doctor Pepper Man, I drink that thing.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
I get both flavors and one time.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
Yeah, I hear voices in my head. I mean that's
the theme song for Randy Orton, of course, the Legend Killer.
But I'm always curious as to if I could do
the box right, which is the Jim Carrey Riddler version
in the Batman series, if I could see what's in
your head right, the cartoons and all those other things
(03:14):
that are dancing around as you formulate your sentences. Here
at Fox Sports Radio, it is a fascinating world.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
Now, we have a big football story coming up in
about fifteen minute. Wait, wait, a big football story is
July three. Yes, a big football story coming your way
in about fifteen minutes. But what is going to be
the hotter take tomorrow? Okay, got two choices, Mike Carmen,
you can also choose A and B as your answer. Okay,
is the hotter take? Front PAGEVSPN dot com right now.
(03:45):
Page Becker's the Dallas Wings really not a great team
in the WNBA, but twenty three points for Paige Becker's
All Stars starter. She's come in and played even better,
I mean better than I thought she she'll play. And
I thought she was going to be a star. Paige
Beckers greater than Caitlyn Clark or or or Indiana Fever
(04:10):
after absolutely blowing out the Las Vegas Aces site. Way
do we tell you what Vegas Head coach Becky Hammond
had to say after this game eighty one fifty four
Indiana Fever thrilled Indiana Fever say, you're right, she was not.
Indiana Fever better off without Caitlin Clark. Which hot take
(04:31):
do you like more? For the next twenty four I
was because you know we're gonna hear both of them.
Which one do you like more?
Speaker 3 (04:37):
I like the the individual battle, so page Beckers greater
than Caitlin Clark because it's just a one on one,
right mono imano, much like our our random Do you
ever think about it being like it's you against you?
Speaker 1 (04:53):
Okay, okay, very good.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
No, that's good. That's good. I like that you're running
that line.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
We got that line in like three times to night, because.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
That's that's how I feel most days. You know, you
questioned my my battle of the meaning of life, But
it's also the am I doing enough? Am I doing? Okay?
Have I done enough for my kids? Have I do
I look after my parents, Do my brothers hate me?
Does Jason secretly want to stab me with a pen?
You know all of us secret not quite so secretly.
(05:23):
I mean, it might just be straight out there that
he's gonna hit me with that bat. Make sure coming.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
That'll be fine, you'll see it coming.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
Well, as long as I get that moment of clarity
right before things go.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
Good, Hey, Harman, turn around, that's what you'll get right before.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
No, that's it, right if I get my moment like
Gandelfeen he did at the end of The Sopranos because
he don't know what necessarily happened, but he sure as
hell does. So all of that to say that, yeah,
I think the one on one battle like we we
set up the the WWE the Oval, as has been
(05:59):
suggested by some of our folks. Eric espoused that on Instagram,
wherever you're you're finding us, we appreciate you being part
of the extended family. But I think the one on
one thing because we can go into the nuance of
team and how things change when a player is taking
off the court, and that that's not nearly as sexy
as this player better than that player.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
Look at the.
Speaker 3 (06:22):
The reigning Rookie of the Month and all of this
stuff that we have for Paige Beckers. Yeah, so I'll
take the individual battle.
Speaker 1 (06:30):
Oh see, I'm gonna go the other way because because
knowing how knowing how people feel about Caitlin Clark, all
better off with that, because there's a little bit more
evidence there that at least you can have started having
the conversation. Right like here the fever who again that
you know, they win the Commissioner's Cup right there, the
ist champions five.
Speaker 3 (06:51):
Hundred grand they got to spin. Yeah, and then they
called out the commissioner saying, we get more for this
than our paychecks and winning a title.
Speaker 1 (06:59):
Yeah, how about but how about you work on the money?
Moore le let's wear Hey, Kathy, gotta get us some
more money. I like how Kyler Clark, Hey Kathy, work
on that.
Speaker 3 (07:05):
Right in between all the other nonsense that was going on,
Sophie Cunningham went viral again for twerking, and they were
reading off comments and going who's daddy. It's like that's
actually my dad?
Speaker 1 (07:18):
Oh okay, yeah, even Lebron doesn't say, hey Adam, work
on that, Hey Adam, Hey Adam, go work on that. Hey, Kathy,
go work on that well, ye, Kathy, get on that way.
Speaker 3 (07:27):
Yeah. I think I think there's plenty of evidence of
Lebron calling out the commission stuff.
Speaker 1 (07:32):
I always like when when Jordan when Doug Collins would
coach the Bulls and he would talk about he would
say Doug. He would always say, well, what Doug w
Doug was saying this, and Doug he would never call
him coach or call he would just say, well, Doug, Doug, Doug, Doug.
You know, I think Doug wants to do this, and
Doug Doug likes this. And then they pushed Doug out
so Phil Jackson could come in. They got rid of Doug.
Speaker 3 (07:54):
But yeah, he and Pippen were really good at going
Doug Doug.
Speaker 1 (07:58):
But I'm gonna say Kayler Clark because here's here's what
it is is, there's going to be that push of Hey,
the fever better off without Caitlin Clark. Look at what's
going on. You know, they spread the floor, the players
get involved more. Look you have you know, you have
talent on the team. You have a former Rookie of
the Year. You know she went for twenty five tonight y. Hey,
(08:18):
they're better outside of Caitlyn Clark's one person show. Okay,
let me tell you why that's not the case, and
then I'll give you something different to think about. And
it goes to the hatred of Caitlin Clark, but not
how you think. So first of all, okay, we've seen
this in sports so many times, right, star X gets
hurt and for a short period of time, because a
(08:39):
team is pretty good, they're able to figure out a
way around it. Right, it's a little bit different away
they attack, and so teams are seeing how you're doing
things for the first time, because hey, without the star player,
without the catalyst, how we don't know what's gonna happen.
Who's gonna take on the lion's share of the ball handling?
How is the game going to evolve? And when a
team is good, Because I told you by game thirty,
(09:01):
we're gonna say the Fever the best team in the WNBA.
They made a lot of big improvements in the officing
point and a lot of players. They needed time for
that to coalesce. Now, obviously that that timeline is going
to be a little bit pushed back now because Caitlyn
Clark has been injured. So now integrating all the different
players together is gonna take a little bit longer, But
you don't forget they're they're good, right, They have really
(09:22):
good players like Mitchell is really good and Cunningham's become
a start. The didn't have a big night tonight, but
a big night plus minus wise. So yeah, for short
periods of time, you've seen this, right. We saw you know,
when Halliburton got hurt and somehow the Pacers are up
by one at halftime in Game seven of the NBA Finals, whoaha, whoa,
Now this is okay? What how did they do things after?
There's no Halliburton and then the thunder? Just give them
(09:44):
a clinic the rest of Game seven? But we've seen this, right,
you say, And for short periods of time, you can
do that, right. A team can go, hey without how
are you doing this without your start? Well, look at
what's going on, and then you get that, hey, maybe
they're better off for that. No, it's going to be good.
And as long as a team is talented and they
and they're focused and they're and they're they're pumped to
(10:05):
work together on this, it's not just well, we're gonna
fall apart until Caitlyn comes back. To save us. Well,
you're gonna you can see that now after a handful
of games. Are team's gonna see how to attack the Okay,
this is what the Fever like to do. Without Caitlin,
we can do this and slow them down. Absolutely. The
better teams in the w NBA are gonna do that
one hundred and fifty percent. So this whole hey, just
understand that for short periods of time, when a team
(10:28):
is good, we told you the Fever are good, you
can get by without your start. That's what we're seeing
right now with the Fever.
Speaker 3 (10:33):
Yeah, they've got enough depth. They made a lot of
uh alterations to that roster in the offseason. You changed
out your coach. You're trying to find some semblance there.
She would miss some time. Uh and and now you're
you're pushing to that next part of the season. You
got forty four regular season games. Here's a small stretch
of it, small sample size. And yeah, they they've bludgeoned
(10:56):
these squads. So it is eyebrow raising. But to that end,
people pick up the game flows a lot differently. We've
seen this with other superstars in all sports, where you
get that bump as you like to call it, and
we certainly can find pieces where you have a different flow. Right,
(11:18):
the Celtics without Jason Tatum record was really good. Kevin
Durant missing time in Phoenix record was really good. Just
go superstar to superstar. You could pick out small sample
sizes right when we go into statistics, as we always say, right,
you need thirty case thirty samples for your case study
to be quote statistically relevant. Doesn't mean we can't pick
(11:42):
a couple of dates out of the air and have
a streak of five to ten games and try to extrapolate.
Just once we get thirty which is three quarters of
your WNBA season, that where we get it to where
it's statistically valid in the grander sense of your statistics coursework.
(12:02):
So yeah, it's it's other players stepping up. Matchups always
a huge thing. Motivation for your opponent and how much
they're jacked up on a given night. Caitlin Clark not
there all of a sudden, you know, maybe maybe that
that emotion is a little bit different. You know, we've
talked about that a little bit as well. As you know,
(12:24):
you get up for this team, whether it's the Layton
hate or the outright hate as some will love to
call it because, let's face it, that's the thousand word
thought piece that keeps flowing whenever anybody gets into the
w NBA sphere, like, hey, that did pretty good numbers
on TV. Do we have to talk about it? This
(12:45):
is TV and radio. Yeah, you probably should say something
about what do we say? Everybody hates Caitlin Clark? Good,
let's go so how do we spin that off of this?
So here, it's just a flow in a couple of
games stretch curiosity. But you see it in arenas, Right,
(13:05):
people don't show up necessarily if she's not playing, and
they don't show up at their television box, they go
and find another episode that they missed of Love Island.
Speaker 1 (13:15):
Now you say, you get into the next part, which
I really wonder how big a part of it that is?
Right now, the last three games they have won by
an average of sixteen points a game, right they Oh? Yeah,
they nearly beat the Wings by double digits. They blow
out the best team in the WNBA in the Commissioner's
Cup Final, and then the Aces, who yes, not as
(13:35):
great a year at the changes they made in the
off season clearly didn't work for them.
Speaker 3 (13:39):
But well, but I mean that's where I had my
hot take of I mean, look, ninth, she was voted
ninth by the players amongst guards. That was right because
they kicked the living snot out of the links in
the Commissioner's Cup of Finale. So I mean, look, how
much did they miss her? Eight seven ninety nine?
Speaker 1 (13:58):
Look, and now you you know, and now you have
Kelsey Plumb leaving and the Aces clearly are not the
same team they are. But Asia Wilson is still the
best player in the WNBA. She's the only one who
showed up tonight. And it was never close, right, They
lost by one hundred and Becky Hammond after the game
said many bad things about the Aces, calling it, quote,
(14:19):
one of the worst games I've ever seen, a complete
lack of professionalism to come in here with that effort.
It's the worst offensive night I've seen since I've been
here the last four years. My team has to step up.
There has to be some kind of fight our team.
One team was fickle, one team was not. There's just
no bones about it. One of the worst games I've
(14:40):
ever seen. Right, So, she is absolutely not happy with
the effort that the Aces gay tonight. Right now, this
gets into it last three games now, the fever of
one pretty big, you know how much a lot of
the players. There's the jealousy and the hate of Caitlin
Clark throughout the league. There's the players and coaches that
hate her outright just because they don't believe she should
(15:01):
be getting the publicity and the recognition that she does.
Maybe it is jealousy, maybe it's an a RaSE perspective,
but it's out there. But there's also that the group
of people who's okay, that don't say things like that,
but obviously know, Hey, when we play the fever, I
got a little something something for Caitlyn Clark and the fever.
(15:21):
I'm getting up for this game because it's the same
philosophy of what happens and why it's so hard for
champions to repeat in sports and have the same record
during the regular season, because hey, everybody circles that game
when the champs are coming to town, right, everybody circled
this year when the Celtics were coming to town. Everybod's
gonna circle next year when the thunder are coming to town.
You're gonna get everybody's best effort every night. It's not
(15:42):
gonna be one Night of eighty two. It's gonna be, hey,
little bit something extra special. So a team is a
little bit more focused for those games, right, Obviously that's
the way it goes. Now, you have the desire the
Fever coming into town. It's like they're the champs, right,
It's like, Hey, here comes Caitlyn Clark, and there's gonna
be eyeballs and attention, and I really want to stick
it to them and show you that I'm really good too,
(16:02):
and we're Maybe I do it because I hate Caitlyn Clark.
Maybe I do it because I respect her and I
want to show that I'm good too. Maybe I'm just
jacked up because it's a game on national TV. But
you get and the Fever get everybody's best game every
time they step on the floor. But look what's happened
in the last three games. No Caitlyn Clark, the Wings
look terrible, even though it's the Commissioner's Cup Championship. It
(16:25):
was a no show effort for the Links. It was
an absolute no show tonight for the Aces. And you
heard Becky Hammond say the effort tonight was abysmal, Like,
I really wonder how much of that goes into well,
there's no Caitlin Clark playing in this game, I'm not
as jacked up, I'm not as focused. This is just
one of forty four on the calendar, and it's a
Thursday night, right before the fourth of July, where the
(16:47):
holiday is coming up, and we're just not focused, whereas
if Kaitlyn Clark was playing, Hey everybody's jacked up to
go play in this game, and hey we're supporting Asia
Wilson Moore who did basically try to do it all
by yourself tonight. And it's a much more competitive game.
I really wonder how much of there is there that
it's the champion's mentality. When you play the Fever in
Kaitlyn Clark, it's different than when you play somebody else.
Speaker 3 (17:09):
Well, I mean, like like I said, I mean when
we look at TV ratings when she doesn't play, I mean,
look at what happens to ticket prices. They absolutely plummet
in the secondary market. I haven't done the full chronicling
of the no shows, but you know those are numbers
that we you know, it's fuzzy math as we go
down that road. Right, So all of that to say
(17:32):
that translates to the sidelines as well. You know, the
energy is not the same in the building. That doesn't
mean people don't still love the Fever. And if you're
at an Indiana Fever game at home, that you don't
have that kind of juice in the crowd because Caitlin's
going to be there waiting, and she'll be there on
the road game signing autographs and hanging out. But it's
not the same juice. It's not that same to be
(17:53):
the man, you gotta beat the man kind of mentality,
and that translates to the players, it translates to the officials.
You're just gonna have a different flow to the game,
right when a superstar is not there. And we talk
about it all the time when we're watching you know,
games that matter. I mean, look look at that Clayton
Kershaw effort against It was the White Socks, but it's
(18:14):
a historic game, and even the night before it's the
White Socks. You have these great giveaways. You have these
great giveaways. Tonight they did a one piece promotion. The
cards are selling for three hundred and fifty dollars a peach.
Yesterday you had a not only Kershaw Day, you gave
away forty thousand Yamamoto bobbleheads. You just have a different
(18:37):
energy at different stadium and with different squad, no matter
who the opponent is. But with the fever when Caitlin
Clark is in there. The ratings have told us that
the money in the secondary market against Dallas, you could
have gotten in for five dollars, and that's Page Becker's.
Speaker 1 (18:56):
You said dollars. You get in for five dollars, But.
Speaker 3 (19:00):
Obviously you moved it to a bigger arena, and we've
watched that phenomenon. So that means, all of a sudden,
you've got a glut of tickets on the secondary market
that supplied demand, fewer people in demand. Hey, you want
to get in, and any tickets that might have still
been held back that become available through the marketplace from
(19:20):
the venue itself. Guess what they just want you in,
So you order the aforementioned hot dogs. We talked a
lot about hot dogs, check it out in the podcast.
All of that, you're just trying to get butts and
seats to extend some kind of the financial gains. But
it doesn't mean it translates into juice on the court
by the fans and certainly by the players on either
(19:44):
side at that point. Now for all of them, they
realize the opportunity. Hey, you know what, We're expanding with
three more teams, So we need to kick ass every
time we're out here because it could with the new
CBA translate into a lot of money. But that doesn't
necessarily always make it.
Speaker 1 (19:59):
So exit at about a fresca exit swalling down The
Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon. Again,
I wonder how much when she's not playing. Yeah, I'm
not as juiced up and hit Hey three and zero
without Caitlin Clark. Think about that coming up next? Yes,
it is going on the fourth of July, and we
have a big football story. Yes next Jason and Mike
(20:20):
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (21:01):
Fox Forest Radio, The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon. Yeah, so wait a minute, how is
there a big football story on July third? Well, glad
you asked? Glad you stay. There are a couple of
inside the athletic being one of them reporting that right now,
(21:25):
as things stand, the quarterback in pole position to be
the starting quarterback this fall for the Browns is Brian Side.
The quarterback in pole position. I just love getting Brian
Sipe in the show.
Speaker 6 (21:40):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (21:41):
The quarterback in pole position to be the starter for
the Browns this year is Kenny Pickett. Now he would
be the fourth guy you would have. Who's the guy
that's not good with Kenny Pickett?
Speaker 2 (21:52):
No?
Speaker 1 (21:52):
Apparently pole position, And according to these reports, it's because
his mastery of the offense, plus the fact that being
as as he is, he can execute some of the
plays and be a little bit more of a threat. Okay,
now I would have thought, Okay, Flacco will be the guy,
Shador Sanders will be the second guy. And you know
(22:12):
this is a team they also drafted Dylan Gabriel. But
the fact that Kenny Pickett could be sorry, Super Bowl
champion winning Kenny Pictrick could be the uh it could
be the starting quarterback for the Browns. This is absolute
doomsday for Shador Sanders. Okay, you've seen the stories the
last few days, and hey, the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL.
(22:33):
I remember the CFLs middle of the season right now,
right the CFL season goes as long as the MLS.
It's like thirty seven weeks. They play seventy five games.
It's amazing. And they have picked up his negotiation rights
and there's been a little bit of smoke connecting. Hey,
Shador Sanders, if he's let go by the Browns could
wind up in the CFL. If this continues on and
(22:56):
when we get to training camp, and remember, because the
CFL season goes till the end of no beginning of December.
If this goes on, guess what and Kenny Pickett stays
in pole position. Yeah, but wait a minute, Shaduor Sanders
played pretty Yes, he did well and seven on sevens
against the backups, but he also had those two driving
infractions that we told you. He can't afford to have
(23:16):
bad optics, and he's had bad optics. If this continues
into training camp and he can't make any headway, the
Browns will absolutely cut him and he will go to
the CFL to play like that. That's how big a
deal this is that Kenny Pickett is the guy running
number one with the Browns, Because if this was Joe Flacco, okay,
Flaco number one, clearly there's an itch to scratch with Shador. Yes,
(23:40):
Dylan Gabriel's taking the third round for some ridiculous reason,
and yeah, Pickett is. At some point, you think during
training camp they will trade one of their quarterbacks to
a quarterback needy team and they'll recoup like a seventh
round draft pick or something for a team who needs
a backup or a third stringer. You would see something
like that. But if Kenny Pickett wins this job, what
does that tell you about about Chador Sanders? Right, if
(24:03):
Flacco wins it, it's okay, Flacco will start but eventually
Sanders has taken over right the skill said he has,
He will step in, he'll start by October. But the
more that Kenny Pickett runs with this job, the less
important and the less piece of the pie Chador Sanders
has to carve out there. You can't beat out Kenny Pickett.
I mean, come on, man, like you got to. You
(24:25):
gotta find your way somewhere up the depth chart, because
Kenny Pickett being number one tells me that Chador Sanders,
as well as he was as did in Cleveland, might
not be nearly as close as we think he is.
So I'm looking at if we get into camp in
a few weeks and we're talking about Hey towards the
end of July, and the first couple of weeks go
and things aren't great, or Shadoor Sanders gets kind of
(24:47):
itchy as far as Hey his status with the team,
and and we want to know before we come to
training camp, what the job, what the situation is going
to be in the Browns tell him, Hey, Kenny's our
number one right now. If we had to say you'd
be our third ques quarterback, then shoud Or Sander's gonna
say give me my release so I can go play
in the CFL, and we will see him in the
CFL before we see him in the NFL, because he's
(25:08):
got to go somewhere to play. He's got to be
able to remake his image and get the optics better
on him where hey, we can trust him coming in
to be a part of our future. He's got to
get on the field and play. And he knows if
I'm stuck as the third string quarterback in Cleveland, I'm
not seeing the field. I'm not gonna count on injuries
that's gonna get me. Oh, I've gotta get on the field,
because yes, guys get hurt every year, but you have
(25:30):
You can't sit here and say I'm a third string quarterback.
I'm gonna play. He's got to get out there and play.
Guy that comes in it doesn't play his first year
is not suddenly gonna be Hey, the shiny new toy
we're dusting off six months from now. So he knows
I'm gonna have to go someplace. This could even happen
before they get to training camp if he doesn't like
where his standing is with the Browns.
Speaker 3 (25:49):
I enjoy the chaos of it all because once again
we pull back, you know, like an onion and all
our layers. You know, the further down you get, the
more it it staks. Your favorite line is that we
go back towards the draft process and trying to decipher
what's noise what's hate, right, because that became the great word,
(26:13):
going back to the Caitlin Clark stuff and entitlement and
all of these things. How much people were mad at
his daddy for trying to own the process, how much
of the direction, How much do you take away from
what came out of the Giant's visit, How much was real?
How much was imagined there? Brian Dable pretty much just
(26:36):
said it's done, it's overleave me alone, but didn't categorically
deny anything in the process of whether Schador was disinterested
or failed in any of the whiteboard or any of
the other questioning that they had. So you're trying to
parse through that versus what you watched on tape. How
(26:56):
great was he against a mediocre schedule, the win percentage,
having Travis Hunter where he could just throw it up
to go get it. He had a couple of other
wide receivers, right Burden and a couple others that performed
really well got drafted, so, you know, trying to parse
through all of that. And then you got a guy
like Kenny Pickett, thirty career games that he's played, sixty
(27:20):
two and a half percent completion percentage, but playing for
a team that we've laughed at the Pittsburgh offense for years.
So was it the offense and what they were trying
to put forward versus the player that Kenny Pickett was.
Did they get overdrafted? You don't know, because did you
trust anybody that was he was running out for in
(27:41):
those scenarios? No, in Philadelphia, he was basically a mop
up guy. And so now he goes to Stefanski and
maybe there's something still to be unleased of this guy.
And I say that, you know, half serious, half I
don't know. I don't know. Also, people were trying to
tell me how great sho Door Sanders was a couple
of weeks ago when it was seven on seven against backups, right,
(28:04):
because he was thrown against the number twos the entire time.
Yet I was supposed to believe, see he can really
sling it. Yeah, all these guys could throw the ball far.
Oh look at that deep ball that he hit down here.
Oh yeah, yeah, boy, that's gonna back up turner back
cornerback who got turned around and he just threw it up.
Speaker 1 (28:25):
Okay, great, hey, coach, good coach. When the season starts,
do we wear pads?
Speaker 3 (28:29):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (28:29):
Oh, that's gonna make it more down. And will the
defenders try to hit me? Yeah, they're gonna kicked my
ass at Colorado for two Yeah, that's gonna happen here.
Oh wow, Okay, that's gonna Well, that's gonna change.
Speaker 3 (28:41):
Thomas playing for us.
Speaker 1 (28:43):
Yeah, coach, that's gonna change things for me. Yeah you
think a little bit. That's absolutely gonna do that.
Speaker 3 (28:49):
Joe Thomas. He we can put him, put his bust
away for a couple of years and allow him to
come back, right, m man.
Speaker 1 (28:56):
But I'm telling you this is a this is a
huge This could doom should Sanders in Cleveland? It really,
it really can. I mean, I think this is this
is the more interesting it goes that way, the more
it failed. I can't believe. I can see where he
might not even make it to August. Really, he might
not even make it to August with the team. Because
you tell me what you would do if Okay, going
(29:17):
in here, Hey, we have an off for you. You
can come play for us, right because Chad Kelly is
the the CFL MVP. But he's out for another few weeks.
He's got a toe injury, and he got hurt at
the end of last year too, and you know, like
I said, the season is like twenty five weeks long,
so he's gonna be out for another few months. So
but he's gonna come back at some point. If you're
Sad Or Sanders, you want to get back in and
(29:38):
play as much as you can before Chad Kelly does return,
because maybe you just have to go for a couple
of months. Hey boy, he lit up the CFL for uh,
you know, in August, in September, Hey, guess what, We're
gonna sign him. He's gonna come in and be our
second string quarterback because we have a bridge guy right now,
and then next year he'll compete for the number one
job on our team. Like that might be the best
(30:00):
path for Shador Sanders to actually get to the NFL.
Might be the Sad go to the CFL play a
few months, then I can leave and a team will
sign me and say, listen, learn the offense. Staying right here,
staying behind us. We have a bridge guy right now,
but hey, don't worry about it. Next year you come in,
you could be our guy, right like, maybe comes into
the Rams and the Rams Salvey, you know what we're
gonna I really like you, Sean mcvass do everything you
(30:22):
can come in here. Yeah, you know, Matthew's probably in
his last year. You know, let's come out and do this.
Let's come out like there's teams where that can happen,
and that might be his best path to the NFL.
It's crazy, but it could almost be over before August
gets here.
Speaker 3 (30:36):
You sound like you're being affected by all our Laker
fan friends in our private lives and who wander around
the Fox Sports radio studios whenever it comes to that
guy's a future Dodger, that guy's a future Laker. You
keep trying to get every football player to the Sean
McVay world to fix him.
Speaker 1 (30:53):
What quarterback doesn't want to go play for Sean McVay.
Speaker 3 (30:55):
What you're always trying to talk him into a Ram.
Not everybody can play for the Rams, Smith, Not everybody
gets to go to the Sean McVay house and style
and then go over to training camp in Hawaii.
Speaker 1 (31:10):
Not everybody gets that luxury exit out about a Fresca
exit swollen down the Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike harmon time not to find out what's trending
in the wide world of sports from someone who's been
called the Sean McVay of Fox Sports Radio. She walks
around the hallways yelling, run it back, run it back.
It's Brianna Murro with what's trending? What do you got?
Speaker 6 (31:31):
Bre I wish I was cool like Sean McVay and
I had a hot wife and drink rose, Like how
cool would that be?
Speaker 1 (31:38):
Okay, Well, I don't know about the other stuff, but
you can drink rose right away. I definitely can drink
drinks rose before every.
Speaker 6 (31:44):
Show, allegedly, but we don't know for sure. Right and
he never shares with me though.
Speaker 3 (31:52):
I think he's, well, you do well, okay, So he
doesn't get if I had it, I would. Okay, that's true.
You guys. You're making it out like I would shun her.
Speaker 1 (32:04):
Anyboddy brings merlow, I am blank and leave it.
Speaker 3 (32:08):
Well, that's the other thing. We'd go a little bougi here.
Speaker 6 (32:11):
I'm more of a white wine girl. But it's fine,
okay already. So somebody who won't be drinking white wine
is Maximuncy as he suffered a bone bruise and Wednesday's
game after and just like before that, the Dodgers beat
the White Sox six to two. The Angels beat the
Braves five to one. Zach Nato finished a triple shy
of the cycle. Toronto is in first place in the
(32:34):
Al East for the first time in July since twenty sixteen.
So that's just wild to know.
Speaker 1 (32:40):
They broke my dad's heart. My dad is so mad
right now.
Speaker 6 (32:44):
They topped the Yankees eight to five. The Nationals dominated
the Tigers eleven to seven as James Wood had a
career high five hits. He also announced earlier today he'll
be participating in the home run derby. The Cubs beat
the Guardians one to zero and ten innings. Guardians are
arding pitcher Luis Ortiz has been placed on pay leave
over a reported MLV investigation into gambling. A betting integrity
(33:08):
firm flagged two individual pitches in the month of June
from Ortiz, hang.
Speaker 1 (33:13):
On, now I know you're really good friends with Manzi Blago,
so I know how much she bets. Did she bet
on either of those pitches?
Speaker 6 (33:21):
You know, we kind of talked about it, but I
think it was only like one of those games. I
don't think it was the other games.
Speaker 1 (33:27):
Only one of them, only one of them. Then the
heat got too bad and I had to back away.
Exactly as soon as he threw.
Speaker 3 (33:32):
That fifty one foot I knew it was on.
Speaker 6 (33:36):
You know, she was really heavy into the Malik Beasley
like those games, those those prop bets.
Speaker 3 (33:43):
That lay watching.
Speaker 1 (33:46):
Oh, that was so bad that got to hit the
first batter. If the fix is on, anybody next, mister
rastein to this, I come back and.
Speaker 6 (33:54):
See you exactly.
Speaker 2 (33:56):
So yeah.
Speaker 6 (33:57):
So that's about it, guys, back to you, all.
Speaker 1 (34:00):
Right, thank you very much for enjoy the night. Jason
Smith Mike Harmon live from the Fox Sports Radio Studios.
Coming up next. Yes, so far NBA free agency has
been kind of However, that doesn't mean there's not something
incredibly great to look forward to coming up now in
the NBA offseason. What is it? We'll tell you next
(34:22):
right here, Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (34:24):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.
Speaker 1 (34:31):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon. Remember eighty hot dogs. I'm going eighty
hot dogs for Joey Nut tomorrow. Okay, Francesa, can't count that, Nata,
but I'm going eighty.
Speaker 3 (34:46):
Remember the over under is at seventy one and a
half eighty, and then he got prop BET's margins of victory.
Or if you want to go for the long shot
that somehow Joey Jestnut has a cramp or something that
precludes him from finishing, then you can get cute and
your exotics.
Speaker 1 (35:06):
There she swam by me, she got a cramp. Haap.
I just say it's a twenty five hot dog spread, right,
he's favored by twenty five hot dogs to win.
Speaker 3 (35:15):
Well, you can get plus four fifty at a margin
of victory.
Speaker 1 (35:18):
Now do I get? Do I get the field at
plus twenty five?
Speaker 3 (35:22):
I do?
Speaker 1 (35:23):
Okay, But do I get the whole field at plus
twenty five hot dogs?
Speaker 3 (35:26):
No?
Speaker 1 (35:27):
Oh? Well, you know, I mean anybody do I get?
I get anybody like I don't have to say he's
got to beat Matt Stoney. I get any whoever finishes second,
I get twenty five hot dogs.
Speaker 3 (35:38):
Yeah, I don't even think Matt Stoney is a thing anymore.
Speaker 1 (35:40):
I'm just saying, I'm just I'm just throwing guys out there.
I'm not I know, it's not Kobayashi. I'm just throwing
guys out there, Like what I whoever finishes seper and.
Speaker 3 (35:48):
You got Hendrickson, and you got all these guys. So
your twenty plus margin of victory, you were getting plus
I think it was plus four fifty and then you
have the twenty five or more. That's where we were
starting to get into. You know, that was fifteen to one.
Speaker 1 (36:06):
Okay, all right, very good.
Speaker 3 (36:07):
So if you think he's gonna win my twenty five plus,
So if you go to his record seventy six last year,
the nearest competitor, the guy that won while he went
and did his competition with Kobayashi eight fifty eight.
Speaker 1 (36:22):
Now, the other thing we're looking at right as we
get here, think about those numbers for tomorrow pro session.
Speaker 3 (36:28):
There no question about it.
Speaker 1 (36:30):
Look, the first week of NBA free agency sort of
been Look, I can't even I can't even sit here
and say, oh my goodness, what an incredible frenzy. How
crazy about Now? The biggest name to change teams is
Miles Turner. Okay, I get, Look, big money is doled out.
I get. It's what NBA free agency is there for.
The league wants teams to be able to keep their players. Right,
(36:51):
it's what it's there for. But you don't sit here
and try to, you know, sell me a bill of
goods that. Oh, it's been an unbelievable free agency at all?
What an incredible Yeah, Miles Turner going to the Okay, Yes,
the Pacers are upset. It's a big right. This is
not a move that is going to tip the scales
and suddenly turn the Bucks into a winning team. Now,
the big thing of this is, Okay, is Miles Turner
(37:12):
enough to convince Giannis to stay. The moves that are
made now play into what is going to be really
good because we have Look, it's been a jag kind
of of free agency so far. Right, Yes, a lot
of a lot of signings, but it doesn't mean that
it's been stuff that's been really big. Again, the biggest
free agent move, I've yet to see it, right, I've
yet to see one move that's okay, or two moves Hey,
(37:33):
this is gonna get this team all the way up here, right.
But I will say this, What is happening now is
we are gonna get to what could be an absolutely
insane trade period in the NBA because it's done differently now.
Teams no longer get to free agency. Okay, We're gonna
make some moves, bring in some players, then fill out
(37:54):
the roster right now. How it's done is every every
star player before they give them okay to where they
want to go play, wants to see, hey, if is
the team I'm going to Are they ready to win?
Are they ready to you know, to achieve? Because I
don't want to go there where. Yeah, our plan is
to get you and then you and then somebody. No,
it doesn't work anymore, right because you see, teams can't
(38:15):
can't do that. So what's happening now is, hey, everybody's
getting into their spot. They're signing their players. So now
when the when the that as the first wave of
free agency is ending, teams are now sitting around and
looking at their stars and saying, all right, now, can
we go out and get Yannis? Can we go out
and get Karl Anthony Towns or Michal Bridges, Jalen Brown, Zion,
(38:38):
John Morant, who had to answer trade rumors the other day, Lebron,
if the Lakers are daring him to ask for a trade,
now is when things are gonna get really fun, because
this is when the stars get involved. If Lebron is
gonna get traded, if Yannis is gonna get traded, any
of these guys. Okay, hey, I want to go to
a team where Okay, I'm gonna go in here this
(38:59):
is their finished product. Yes, I know who's coming back
the other way, but yes, okay, I am good going
there because I know I can succeed there, and I
can win there and I can do well there. So
this is now the new way of doing things. Okay,
we're going to set our team up and then we're
going to look to make trade instead of trying to
fill our roster with a couple of guys and then
promising stuff that we can't deliver on. NBA players are
(39:19):
smarter now. They want to see how the dust settles
before they decide, yes, I'll go here in a trade
or no, I won't go there.
Speaker 3 (39:25):
Yeah, it's where you're at in your continuum. Are you
looking for the biggest salary or do you really want
to go win? For some guys, it's the wight. I
can get one more deal of three years plus. You
got guys that are scratching their head unless they're part
of a larger deal. Like Jackson. Hayes goes back to
the Lakers that they didn't use him in the playoffs.
(39:46):
Yet he goes back there, don't you raise your hand
and go? Nobody else of the other twenty nine teams
wanted you for more than a year. He had a
lot of good defensive metrics and a bunch of other stuff.
Yet he's standing there going, wait, I gotta come back here.
Hey last one, Nick Weary minus one and a half
hot dogs over Mickey Pseudo.
Speaker 1 (40:07):
Oh no, no, I'm taking Mickey Soudo. She's I'm not
going there.
Speaker 3 (40:10):
She's the record holder taking them in. I'm going taking
him down.
Speaker 1 (40:13):
I'm going big right there, going with Mickey. So you go,
Happy fourth, buddy, exit out about a Fresca exit swollen dome.
Happy fourth, Right back at you, my buddy. Coming up next,
It's The Plank Show. This is Fox Sports Radio.
