(00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Bob Stoop stepping in
for number sixteen Oklahoma and the Alamo Bowl, and he
guides the Sooners to a victory over number fourteen Oregon
forty seven to thirty two. And Stoop said, something extra
to celebrate because his son Drake scored a touchdown in
(00:43):
this game. As far as what is happening in the
NBA and what we've seen on this Wednesday, the Lakers
face plant on the road one oh four to ninety
nine to the Grizzlies. Lebron James thirty seven points on
the day before his thirty seventh birthday, a victory for
the Bowls as they ransacked the Hawks seventeen. Trey Young
twenty points, eleven assists. The Clippers take down the Celtics
(01:08):
to eighty two, Marcus Morris twenty three points and ten
or rebounds. The Son's overwhelmed the thunder one fifteen to
nineties seven, Devin Booker putting up thirty eight points seven three.
Oh that is us. Good evening everybody with Jordan Burger
on the Spaniard in for the guys, Jason Smith and
his best freend Mike Harman. By the way, it could
(01:29):
happen to easily. A few drinks could become a few
too many. It's time to go, and you think you're
of calling for a ride home, and you go, Nah,
what's the worst that could happen? You get pulled over,
you lose your license, you're totally your car, You kill someone,
drives over, or get pulled over. Paid for Biden Nitza.
By the way, rich our buddy Mike Harmon was vacationing
(01:49):
in New York. Before he left to New York, I
actually filled in with him. I don't know, the days
are just all four together. Last week I think it
was like last Wednesday or Thursday. I remember maybe Wednesday.
I don't even know. Man, and he was excited to
tell me how he was going to go to a
few Broadway shows and stuff. Like that, Well, lord behold,
they canceled Broadway shows out there, so so no Broadway
(02:17):
shows for him. My friend, he's not gonna be going.
So I'll say this, it really is. It's become um,
I mean, I mean, it's a it's a pattern in
all of our lives. We try now to sort of
stifle our expectation or are you know, our enthusiasm for
future events because of how often this sort of stuff happens.
(02:40):
I mean, it's like the old expression goes, you know,
don't buy green bananas, you know, because he just you're
not sure to if you're gonna be able to see them. Ripen,
I kind of feel that way about buying concert tickets
or Broadway show tickets, or you know, even if you have,
you know, one of your kids recitals coming up, or
(03:01):
school plays. I mean, you know, don't count those chickens
before they hatch, because so many of these things have
gotten canceled over the past couple of months and years. Franco, Absolutely,
I mean that it's it's it's just a killer, absolutely
a killer. You know what, I'm going out to Vegas.
I'm going to meet at some fraternity brothers out there.
(03:21):
I'm afraid that my flight is gonna be canceled. I'm
thinking to tell of my wife, maybe I need to
go out on like a Wednesday, just in case my
flights canceled. A Wednesday gives me an extra day to
get out there or something like that. Yeah, you know what,
you should do it. You should do it like John
Madden used to do it. Just charter a bust herself.
Just go touring your your way from Vermont all the
(03:41):
way to Vegas and uh see the sights on the way. Yeah,
I mean, it really is interesting what we've all experienced
together as a country of society, a global society. I mean,
this is such a unique, unique situation, and nobody's old
enough to tell us the tale from the last pandemic
we've faced, you know, so we're just sort of, you know,
(04:04):
we're we're left to figure it out on our own
without much experience. And yeah, I I don't know overall.
I mean, if you were gonna letter grade how we've
handled this, especially from a sports standpoint, I think, uh,
I think I would give it like a solid you know,
b minus what what? What? What would you would you? Great?
You know, I think people have handled it a lot
(04:27):
better then I could have imagined, because it could have
gotten a lot worse. I mean, the economy and everything
things could have really spiraled, spiraled out of control. So
I think people have handled it better. I don't want
to get into government and stuff like that, but I think, uh,
you know, especially um listeners of of Fox Sports Radio.
I mean, over the two years, a lot of people
(04:48):
were bummed out and you know, people couldn't leave their
homes sometimes, and restaurants were closed. Uh, sporting events were down,
and it was a tough. It was a tough stretch
out there no doubt about that. It you know, yeah, yeah,
I mean here here, I think what you just said
is actually, uh is the truest thing I've heard anybody
say about this pandemic is you know, on on a
(05:12):
personal level, I mean, you see just a lot of
people making necessary sacrifices, doing things that maybe they don't
want to have to, you know, do to to you know, uh,
whether it's earn a living or entertain themselves, change their jobs.
They moved to different states, they did home learning, they
they went with the times. They you know, they got
(05:32):
through with it. And a matter of fact, which is
what I wanted to bring up because you were going
to call the Holiday Ball that got canceled. You found
out two hours before you were supposed to get in
your car. I know NC State was really upset about it.
I mean really upset about it. Um. I don't know
what else could have been done. I mean, you maybe
(05:52):
you shouldn't be testing. But that's a whole another thing
that we could get into. I mean, obviously people are
disappointed and whatever. Where the people still going to the
game where they're like, should we still go out there?
I don't know, is there gonna be anybody there? What?
You know, what do we do now? Do we just
go home? And what about the hotels, the rental cars,
the flights. I mean, that's a lot of money being
(06:13):
wasted for nothing, you know. Yeah, yeah, everything you just
said I think was you know, rifling through the heads
of everybody who was involved in this game. You know,
from the players to the coaches, to the logistical staffs,
the athletic departments on both sides of this game, to
the operators of the Holiday Bowl, the executive director his
(06:36):
entire staff, all the people who helped put on this
Bowl game too. You know, the fans who came in
from North Carolina, drove down from the l A area,
flew in from elsewhere. If they were a Brewing alumni
looking forward to seeing their team in a bowl game
for the first time, and however long it had been.
I mean, you had all these different collections of people
(06:59):
who were interested it and seeing this game go off
without a hitch, who were left with questions, you know,
how did this happen? Why was there such a short
notice given to everybody? You know, why are we finding
out about this five hours before kickoff? So, I mean
players were already at the stadium at the ballpark. Over
at Peco Park, where the Padres typically play, they set
(07:21):
up a football fail tailgating, you know, I mean, I'm
sure there were people who didn't find out that the
game was canceled until they were walking from their tailgate
party up to the gate. You know, I mean, it's
just wild. But again, you know, like we're just talking about,
you know, this pandemic in general leads to Mike Harmon
(07:41):
being left out on Broadway looking at the theater and
and wishing the box office was open, And it leaves
people like me who were getting set to call an
exciting matchup between UM you know, a Pack twelve and
a c C rival uh and and we're disappointed with
the outcome. But that's life. Unfortunately. Let me tell you something.
I mean, you think I'm isolated, I'm only like a
(08:03):
little bit over an hour away from Montreal. Okay, I'd
love to get in my car and just run out
there and have lunch. I'm three hours from Boston, five
hours from New York. I mean, I've got you know, entertainment,
mega capital of the world down there. I go down
the Madison Square Garden. I'm just uh, you know, I
I just hate that some of the stuff is being canceled.
(08:24):
It's it's absolutely, um, just gut wrenching that, you know,
you go down you never know if a game is
gonna be canceled or not. It's it's just painful out there. Um,
you want to get in at orn Berger, I mean
at stinkin Genius one. Um, hopefully the Semis are gonna
be Okay, Cincinnati obviously gonna take out Alabama. I don't
I don't even think that's gonna be a close game.
(08:45):
And my way off on this, I'm surprised that that
line hasn't even jumped up to over fourteen, fourteen and
a half. I think it's the way Alabama looked against Georgia.
I don't see how, um Cincinnati is gonna be able
to keep up with them. What do you tell Cincinnati
if you're the locker room, especially its going south early? Yeah,
I mean, if I'm in the locker room, you know,
there's there's that that thought process of look, you know,
(09:09):
nobody believed we would be here, you know, uh, you know, nobody,
nobody thought that we could hang with this team. And
if the if the first half goes really sideways, I mean,
what you have to do is encourage your players to
play the best half of football they possibly can, because,
as we know in in college football's same as truth
(09:29):
in the NFL. Now, margins disappear real quick. I mean,
we're seeing offenses, and Cincinnati's no different. Cincinnati can score
with the best of them. We're seeing offenses that can
pile up, you know, in certain cases, twenty eight points
in a quarter. I mean, it's just outrageous what we're
seeing some of these teams. In the speed at which
(09:50):
some of these teams operate, using tempo and going no
huddle all game, long, snapping the ball every fifteen seconds
for crying out loud. So I mean I would, I
would just make the argument even if things were going
bad through the first half, nobody's going home at halftime,
like we're we're gonna fight our way all the way
(10:11):
to the finish, which I get my This is how
I get my team pumped up. In from Cincinnati. I
lie to them, Okay, No, I'm serious. I lie to them.
I have somebody come up and come into the UH
into the locker room and say, coach, you know, he
has like an official shirt on and said, we just
spoke to Alabama. They've agreed to running clock in the
second half if they're up by thirty five? Is that
(10:32):
okay with you? And you let the whole team here
that you know, and I get out of here, get
out of here. Do you hear that? Guys they want
running clock in the second half and be you know,
it's a big job. Do something like that. Get him
pumped up. That's what you gotta do. Rich you know
what I mean. That's incredible? Yeah, yeah, you know, like
have it? Have it be a situation. I mean, I'm like,
(10:55):
you know, you know to your point, though, I I do,
I think that head coaches, players in general, you have
to be great liars to you know, play I mean,
it really is true, like you have to be a
great liar to convince yourself that to play football in general,
like you know what I mean, Like you have to
(11:16):
lie to yourself and say that it's okay to run
into somebody going full speed and slam your head into him.
You know, you have to lie to yourself sometimes to
believe that you even belong on the same playing field
as as an opponent. I remember there were times in
high school where our team was just so outmatched, like
there was no we had no chance. But I remember
(11:37):
just feeling so like like right there, you know what
I mean, as if it's like we're neck and neck
to start that game, and boy, it's amazing, yeah yeah,
how fast you start seeing those tail lights and you realize,
oh no, no no, we're getting our doors blown off. And now,
by the way, you have the best of both worlds
being out there in San Diego. Um, are you a
(11:58):
New Year's Eve? Because the last time the semifinals around
New Year's Eve, the ratings were just horrible. You get
to watch the games still go out for New Year's
even if you do that. The games are twelve thirty Pacific,
but four thirty on the second game here on the
East Coast, it's three thirty and seven thirty. So you
gotta make a decision. New Year's Eve or Georgia and Michigan. Um,
(12:21):
which is it going to be? So? And that's probably
the better of the two games that gonna be a
blow and that one you get the best that you're
going out New Year's Eve are You're just gonna stay
on watch the games. I got a three year old
in a six year old. Oh yeah, I mean our
New Year's Eve. They're they're they're numbered for a little while.
So I I love the excuse because it's true, Like
(12:42):
it's That's one of my favorite things that started happening
once I had kids is because write in conjunction with
having my first kid, my NFL career was ending and
there were no more postseasons to worry about, and so
it was just like, Wow, this really did become about football,
college football. And so I'm gonna enjoy the games. Man,
I'm gonna stay in. We'll have a little champagne toast,
(13:05):
but but yeah, it's gonna be I'm gonna watch the semis,
especially at four thirty your time. Though, like I said that,
we have to go ahead. It should have been on Saturday.
The first the reason we don't do that is because
the Rose Bowl has to be the standalone game with
the Utah that's Ohio State game. Um, you can't have
unless unless the somehow the UH Citrus Bowl runs a
(13:27):
little bit late. But otherwise we gotta get away with
that deal, move that away because how great would that
have the semifinals on a Saturday, you know, that's college
football Day. Yeah, yeah, I get what you're saying. You
know it's um I'll say I'll say this about the
Rose Bowl is if if if they don't find a
(13:49):
way to make that game as relevant as you know,
a semifinal matchup for this for this made for TV playoff,
well then then you know, shame on them, like you
know what I mean and and that and maybe it's
up to the n C Double A and ESPN or
whatever other you know network, you know, whether it's Fox
or tb C or whoever else gets involved ESPN and
(14:12):
they figure it out where you have where where you
have eight teams in and they make the Rose Bowl
relevant every year and they make the Orange Bowl relevant
every year, and they, you know, just as relevant as
they were when it was just the the BCS, you
know what I'm saying. Then then I could see there's
an easy argument to be made for having that be
(14:34):
a standalone game. But right now, I agree with the Arnie.
It's it's a little it sort of feels like improper
practices to have the Rose Bowl where they're losing some
of the stars of that team, Like a Lava who's
declared early for the draft, He's not gonna dress for
the Rose Bowl game with his teammates as a result
(14:54):
of wanting to chase a professional career. And who knows,
maybe if this was a part of the season, he
wouldn't have done that. Yeah, no, you're right about that.

A few drinks can become a few too many. It's
time to go, and you're thinking for calling for ride
(16:44):
home and you go, Now, what's the worst that can happen?
You get pulled over, you lose your license, you totally
your car, you kill someone, drive sober, or get pulled over.
Paid for by Niza rich Ornberger Arny Spaniard. Rich makes
you hear what's being told to be during the breakthore like,
you got forty minutes left. It's been a good show. Now,
don't blow it. Don't make it a bad show. In
(17:06):
the last fourty don't blow it now. It sort of
feels like who says that to somebody? Rich And we're
actually keeping it. We're keeping it very positive in here
because Arnie positive. Don't blow it. Arnie had this really
bad idea to copy a segment we do on Sunday Night,
and I said, Arnie, you only have forty minutes left.
You've done a great job so far. Don't blow it now.
(17:29):
On the home stretch. It's like going on a date
and then you know, you make your move and don't
blow it now. For crying out loud, I know you
know and listen. It's it's it's it's very interesting that
we're surrounded by people who have worked with you longer
than I have admitted. And the fourth quarter rolls around
and all of a sudden, everybody's collectively holding their breath.
(17:51):
What I mean, what exactly am I look? I mean,
we worked one I think it was only one time
in the past, but it went pretty good in the
fourth hour. Mean, the wheels didn't completely come off. Of course,
I don't know what they're talking about, you know. I mean,
Arnie did go on that tirade where he used some
really colorful language, but outside of that, all right, let's
(18:11):
get that well, so we gotta I've not even read
hardly any of the tweets out there. South Beach Scotford said, Arnie,
don't you think that Alabama has instead of to not
blow out of Cincinnati? If they blow them out, then
next year uh and after that they'll make sure that
teams like Cincinnati never make the playoffs. I don't think
they care rich if Nonpower five conference teams get in
(18:35):
or not. That's mostly for the fans. I don't think
the other team's care if they are Power five conferences
are not you know, yeah, I don't. I don't necessarily
think that's that's the Cay I do. I listen for Cincinnati.
I think it's extremely special. I think for the players.
I think for the fans of the bear Cats. I mean,
when you think about making it to having an opportunity
(18:57):
I shouldn't say making it too, but having an opportunity
unity to play for a national championship, I mean, that's everything. Man,
that's huge. But in terms of how other teams feel
about since it's just another team that you have to
take care of on your way to what you want
to do, Scotty says, so go get another Anthony Davis
who can't stay healthy and Zion can't keep his weight
(19:20):
down because he can't be overly mobile to get it down.
The Lakers are done winning an elite level with Lebron.
No pieces are keeping them from getting bounced in the
playing around um. First of all, Lebron may never win
a championship again. You have to come to the realization
that his great days are over and that that's all
the championships he may get before he retires, and it's
(19:42):
all said and done that when it's over. But I
think Lebron has enough tread on his tires for a
championship round this season. He's not a great year this year,
potentially next season. I but he can't do it by himself.
I think what I'm seeing, I think what everybody has
seen is the fact that he himself, uh, many of
(20:04):
the role players on this team and and specifically Anthony
Davis have not been able to stay healthy long enough
to play together long enough in jail this season and
every season is a different season. I understand, you know,
a d and Lebron they won one together in l
a different set of circumstances. They did it, you know,
in in you know, hotel, conference ballroom set up in uh,
(20:28):
you know, the wide world of sports. You know, it was.
It was. I'm not saying it doesn't count accounts because
they were playing up against the same odds as everybody else,
but the circumstances are very different. It wasn't an ad
two game season. Lebron James is only older now, so
I think that he needs more help than he's receiving.
(20:48):
And I'm not sure if it's gonna if that helps
on the way, But does he have enough tread on
the tire to win a championship this season or one
next season. Yeah, I could. I could see that, you
could convince me of that, but it's gonna it's gonna
take a lot of help. By the way, the NFL
numbers on Christmas through the roof, actually through the roof.
(21:09):
I'm sure the NBA not happy about that, when Christmas
has always been about the NBA. Not this year, my friend.
I mean, I watched the Knicks game, but that was
just kind of killing time until the NFL started. Um. Yes,
you did have the Laker game going on, um and
stuff like that, but my goodness, man, it was all
(21:29):
about the NFL. Danny g you got you got the
numbers on that or what? Well? Rich was asking if
help is on the way for Lebron Lakers. News is
reporting that the Pistons are asking the Lakers for a
package of Taylor Horton, Tucker th h T, Kendrick Nunn,
and a first round pick for Jeremy Grant. Should the
Lakers accept that trade, I think I'm gonna wait a
(21:53):
little bit and wait to see what I can do better. Yeah,
I was gonna Grant would be a difference maker. Yeah,
he's good, he's good. You need you need bench step though, too.
I mean, like you know, it's kind of one of
those things where you're one injury away from this whole thing,
you know, falling completely apart then, because who do you
(22:13):
send in if you know, if you do have an
injury in in the latter half of the season, you're
starting five would be Westbrook, Bradley James, Grant Davis when
he gets healthy. Your second five would be Collinson, Monks, Stanley,
Areza Howard. I get it, But but we saw a
Bucks team and a Son's team play for the championship
(22:35):
last season, and when it came down to was the NBA.
The NBA postseason last year, And you remember this as
well as I do, was just a war of attrition.
It's whoever was deepest, healthiest and playing the best basketball
at the right at the right time were those who advanced.
It wasn't necessarily the most talented five going in, It
was the healthiest five coming out. Um, you know, I
(22:58):
think they could still go ahead and do better to
do they really want to get rid of Westbrook? Though?
Are they ready to give up on himcause I don't
think they should. I don't see that all this all
negativity coming around. I think he'll do better. This has
just been what thirty games games give the guy a
little bit of a break, you know, yeah, yeah, you know.
I'm trying to find as we speak, the numbers on
(23:21):
Christmas Day. Check this out. I found this one article
that says, according to the out Kicked, five games slated
for Christmas Day average just four point one million viewers
on ABC and ESPN, which is the lowest numbers the
league has ever seen since the expansion of games two
(23:41):
on the holiday and two thousand eight. And they had
some pretty good matchups. Remember they had Golden State and
Phoenix matchup that day too. Check this out. The Packers
and Aaron Rodgers beating the Browns had more than twenty
eight point five million viewers on Fox, and the Colts
upsetting the Cardinals pulled in more than twelve point six
million viewers on the NFL network. I mean, so you're
(24:03):
talking about even the the lesser of the two. You know, obviously,
you know Packers Brown's is gonna pull in a ton
of viewers, but this Cults Cardinals game. It lapped the
Christmas Day average by three times as many viewers. It's
just unreal. What's happening. The NFL is a monster and
it's just gobbling up more space on the calendar. I
(24:26):
love it. By the way, that segment brought to you
by one of our favorite cities of Las Vegas, the
greatest arena on earth. Every game, match raised, and competition,
it is always on. Whoever you root for, whatever sport
you love, to watch the biggest games or even bigger
in Vegas. So make sure you're playing your trip today.
Visit Las Vegas dot com. I'm going next week, going
(24:48):
on the twenty. It's been over a decade, I think,
rich since I've been in Las Vegas, and maybe even
longer than that. Yeah, it's been what you probably go
all the time, don't you. You could just drive there
real quick. Well, you know, I I don't. I've out
as much, you know, for entertainment. But I did get
out there. Actually this season I called football game. I
(25:08):
was on the broadcast for a game at Allegian Stadium,
a college football game. And while I was out there,
I mean, first of all Vegas that weekend, I mean
it was it did not seem like there was a
pandemic going on. I mean, like I don't know, like
you know what I mean, you need an escape, you
(25:28):
go to Sin City, my friend, because that is an escape.
And then on top of it, getting to see Allegian
Stadium was my first time walking that. I was cool
man like. So they had for college football was the
San Diego State Aztecs taken on the UNLV Rebels and
un l V plays their home games at Allegiance and
(25:48):
they play on a turf field that's actually underneath the
grass field that they roll in the they have movable
pillars and they roll in the grass field from the
park a lot and they put it on top of
the turf field that the Rebels play on, and the
Raiders play on that grass field. So that was amazing
to walk past and to see that that you know,
(26:10):
machinery marvel in front of my face. And then you know,
they got that huge torch in the one end zone,
the with the Al Davis quote on it. You know
that the it's the newest, it's the nicest, it's you know,
the food service was incredible. Everything they do is top notch.
Over there was a really cool experience. If if you
can get out for a game at some point, it's
(26:32):
a great place to see a game. I bet it
is I bet it is right. I'll tell you what
we were supposed to get the week seventeen. We'll get
to week seventeen, but first they final check in to
see what's trending. Let's go to Brian Finley, Let's go
to Definn. What's happening to my friend rich and Arnie
Maverick said coach Jason Kidd had to have been screaming
in the locker room based upon the way his defense
(26:53):
fired at the end of this one. On Wednesday Night
between the MAVs and the Kings, here's bonds well fake
in bounced at the Fox Gonna drive It finds the
scene piece of bullets at the corner. Three for the
win on the way, It's good, it's knocked down by
t Messi Mett two and it's pandemonium at Golden Month Center. Yeah.
On the King's Radio Network, Zacramento gets the job done
(27:17):
against those MAVs ninety five to nine four. Jalen Brunson
did have twenty five points in a losing effort the
Jazz top of the Trailblazers one twenty to one oh five.
Rudy Gobert feasting in the lane. He had twenty two
points and fourteen rebounds. The Son's overcome the Thunder one
fifteen to nineties seven. Devon Booker was dialed in in
(27:39):
the scoring department thirty eight points, seven rebounds in five dimes.
The Lakers face plant on the road in Memphis as
the Grizzlies overcome a fourteen point second half deficit and
take it one oh four to ninety nine. It helped
that John Moran had forty one points and ten rebounds.
There was also a victory for the Bulls as they
get past the Hawks into one fifteen. Trey Young twenty
(28:02):
six points eleven assists. The Clippers slip past the Celtics
nine one to eighty two. Marcus Morris twenty three points
and ten rebounds for an l a team that is
now one game over five hundred. As far as college
basketball is concerned, a couple of notable finishes Number nineteen
Alabama finishes off number fourteen Tennessee seventy three to sixty eight.
(28:25):
Now keep in mind that the Valls were down there.
Two top players because of COVID nineteen reasons that would
be Kennedy Chandler and John Fulkerson. A victory four number
eleven Auburn as they paced sixteenth ranked L s U
seventy to fifty five. So the L. S U Tigers
pick up their first loss of the season. Number twenty
one Providence roles over number fifteen Seaton Hall seventy to
(28:48):
sixty five. And also eighteenth rank Kentucky gets the job
done against Missouri eighty three to fifty six. And finally
in college football, we saw number sixteen ocle Home must
stick it to the number fourteen Oregon to thirty two
at the Alamo Bowl. And the key component of this
game was, of course, that Bob Stoops was stepping in
(29:10):
as the interim head coach for the Sooners and what
a thrill for him, Arnie and Rich that his son
in Drake caught a touchdown in this game and that
were that was one of many touchdowns that were thrown
from Caleb Williams. He had three scores for the Sooners
in a major win. And I'll leave you with this.
There was a victory in the cheese At Bowl for
(29:33):
number nineteen Clemson as they take it to Iowa State
twenty to thirteen. And before we get it back to
Rich and Arnie, keep in mind that auto Zone has

thanks not beefen. Do you think it's okay to drive stone?
(30:17):
The truth is your reaction time way down. When you're high.
You're not only put yourself in danger, but everybody around you.
Stop kidding yourself. You've been using marijuana in any form.
Do not get behind the wheel. If you feel different,
you drive different. Drive high. Get in the UI paid
for by NITZA. You want to jump in at or
and Burger. I'm a ad stinking genius one, so just
flying on by. Uh. We talked about my dolphins earlier
(30:41):
in the in the evening seven in a row. You said, Hey,
it doesn't make a difference who you beat. It's still
pretty impressive. I know they've beaten up to directed Society,
so I understand that. But they're in the playoffs right now, Rich,
I mean, who would have thought that they'd be in
the playoffs even with two games to go. Now, they
do have to win their last two games, but they
made up a lot of ground in just in just
(31:03):
seven weeks. I don't look, it's gonna be a tough
game against Tennessee. I know that, but they're only a
three point three that point underdog, so it's certainly possible.
It's not like it'd be a big upset. And then
they have the Patriots coming in the last week. How
great is that loser goes home, winner gets to go
to the playoffs if it works out that way between
the Patriots and Dolphins. At one point, I thought Belichick
(31:24):
was gonna go ahead and get votes for Coach of
the Year. Now he's just trying to, you know, hang
on for his playoff lives. I don't know if mac
jokes is gonna get it done. I mean, how do
you see the Dolphins going the rest of the way. Yeah, Well,
to start with the Dolphins against Tennessee. You're talking about
short rest from Miami because they played on Monday night
versus Tennessee, who played on Thursday night, and they really
(31:47):
opened up their offense against San Francisco. If you remember
that game. A J. Brown's back for the first time
off the injured list for in a while, and he
looked he looked awesome. A J. Bro I I don't
know how many times he was target it, and it
felt like he caught every pass that Tannehill through. Um.
But listen, credit where credits due that the Miami Dolphins
play excellent on defense. To your point, I think this
(32:10):
is a game where you could play the under and
feel pretty good about that bet. Um, But I do
think the Titans win. I I mean late in the season,
you just look at not only not only which team's hotter,
but which team is playing better against better competition, And
as it stands right now, I think that's the Tennessee Titans.
(32:31):
Plus they get the advantage of hosting the game. Plus
they get an advantage of being able to prepare for
the Dolphins for almost a half a week longer than
the Dolphins were able to prepare for them in the
a f C. Other than the Kansas City Chiefs are
the Titans number two. I mean, is there a long shot?
I mean, we've pretty much given up on the Bills
until they came up with a big victory against the
(32:52):
Patriots last week. Cincinnati was jelling with Burrow throwing for
over five yards. All of a sudden, people are back
on the coach bail wagon the way the way Jonathan
Taylor looks out there. People were on the Patriots until
they go lost to the Bills. People like, go, Belichick's
gonna do it again and find his way into the
Super Bowl. Um. The Ravens were a trendy pick earlier
(33:13):
in the season, but you see what's going on with
Lamar Jackson and the Chargers. I mean, people love Justin
Herbert Day might not even make the playoffs probably, I mean,
who knows at this point, I don't you tell me.
Is there any of these long shots you like out there?
Any of these guys gonna make a run at this
or what? Well, I'll say this about the standings as
they are set, I would say the team that stands
(33:35):
the most to gain this this weekend in terms of
how we view them heading into the postseason is the
Cincinnati Bengals, Right, So if Tennessee beats the Dolphins, I
think everybody will sort of be like, yeah, but they
probably were supposed to. If Cincinnati beats the Chiefs and
they moved from nine wins to ten wins with a game, laugh,
(33:55):
then I forget who that they finished their season with.
It's definitely a divisional rivalry. Who who Cincinnati? Yeah, it's
finished against the Browns. So there you go, Like, if
they can beat the Chiefs, all of a sudden, all
of the attention in the a f C is gonna
be turned to the Bengals, especially after what they were
able to accomplish against against the Ravens. I mean that
(34:18):
was that was a walloping they put on the Ravens
in since he uh and and that was coming off
of you know, Joe Burrow. There was a little bit
of Bolton board material from the defensive coordinator talking about him, like, hey,
you know, we're not ready to buy a gold jacket
for Joey b Yes, it throws, he goes, he goes,
did not bother you? And he goes, maybe you know
(34:41):
at the both side, if yeah, you knew that bothered him,
you know what I mean, anything that anything, Yeah, that's right.
And you're talking about a very motivated Cincinnati team. I
mean this and and this is a city that is
desperate for a playoff win. I mean, think about how
many times they were teased to during the Marvin Lewis era,
(35:02):
Andy Dalton. I mean, they just couldn't win, whether they
were getting in as divisional winners or wild card. I
mean I was on a Chargers team where we went
to Cincinnati and we beat them, and I remember almost
feeling bad for the fans who showed up in the jungle,
just like I was walking out of there. And you
know how sometimes you see the parting shots of players
(35:24):
waving to the to the way teams were to the
to the road teams fan. You know, they're saying, oh,
hey bye, we beat you. What I was doing, I
was offering my condultce is like send me your address.
I'll send you guys a postcard from the postseason. I'm
so sorry we did this. Sorry if it wasn't a
blowout or what, you know what, it wasn't a blood
it was. It was a relatively low scoring game. I
(35:47):
feel like it was like a victory something like that.
You know, it's like twenty four h fourteen something like that,
you know. But but we controlled the whole game. We
ran all over them. They couldn't stop our run game.
And I just remember towards the end of the game,
like the players, they got so used to getting knocked
(36:07):
out of the playoffs in the opening round that the
fourth quarter almost felt like they were like, yeah, here
we go again. But that's that's life though in the NFL.
Sometimes Alright, one segment to go. So when we get
back rich and I will give you our picks. Who
do we like tomorrow? Who do you like in the semis?
Who do you like in week eighteen or week seventeen?
All that coming up next right here on Fox Sports Radio. Alright,
(36:32):
it could happen easily. A few drinks can become a
few too many. It's time to go, and you're think
of the calling for a ride home. You know, now,
what's the worst that could happen? You get pulled over,
you lose your license, you're totally your car, You kill someone,
drive sober, or get pulled over paid for by Nizza
thanks to the crew today, IOWA saying Brian Finley on
the updates dating G producing. Then you did a good job, Rich,
(36:55):
I think I would have to give my highest grade
ever C minus. Um fantastic job by the Yeah, see
my seeds get degrees. So I feel like the radio
industry we are. We're just surrounded by C students. Like
you know, we're a collection of the best of the
above average. Just cracking that that to seven g p
(37:19):
A survived to see another day. My mom gave me
a crisp ten dollar bill for every C I got
so waiting for that first one. Yeah, exactly, exactly. Give
us a little music, put us in the mood. Let's
get to some picks, Rich, Let's just get to the semifinals.
Why even mess around. I was actually looking at the
(37:41):
games for tomorrow, and I'm like, do we even want
to care? Bet on the North Carolina South Carolina game,
or Tennessee for Due Pitt, Michigan State or Wisconsin Arizona State.
It's all about the semifinals. I'm gonna take Alabama way
in the thirteen and a half and I kind of
like the overall so I think they could be cheap
jowns or defensive touchdowns if Alabama plays like they did
(38:03):
against Georgia. I don't know how since that's gonna even
be able to keep this one close. I love Alabama.
Mine is the thirteen and a half and this one. Rich, Yeah,
I think I do too, even though this is a semifinal,
Even though I do believe that the Bearcats deserve to
be in this game, I just think that Alabama is
one of those teams where when you believe in culture
(38:26):
and process over even the players year to year, that
that this is an example of that. You know, what
Nick Saban has built is an absolute machine down there
in Tuscaloosa, and so I think they'll roll. I think
the Bearcats will be overmatched just about every place on
the football field, especially as Bryce Young continues to pile
(38:48):
up reasons why this offseason is going to be all
about Bryce Young. Yeah, I got Alabama, all right. George
is taking on Michigan. Rich When when George opened up
as a nine and a half point favorite, I'm like, man,
how could you not take Michigan Plust the nine and
Heavens down in the seven and a half. Kind of
a change a heart here. Look, Georgia's defense is still great,
(39:09):
just because they had one bad half against Alabama. I'm
not ready to write them off. Worried about some of
the way they're gonna move to football. Part of me
thinks that maybe this could be a close game, but
Georgia's defense is so great, I would probably stay away
from this game. But if I gotta go ahead and
he forced to make a pick, I'm gonna go with
Georgia minus the seven and half of this one. Rich. Yeah,
(39:30):
I actually I feel pretty close to um Georgia as
I do about Alabama in terms of confidence. I think
Georgia is one of those teams where they have one
bad game. You know, we're talking to pe few Tack
earlier in the show, and I look at that SEC
championship as the out wire, the exception, not the rule,
(39:53):
and you know, if they get an opportunity to avenge
that loss in the National championship game, I think they
keep it a lock. Oh sir. I think this is
a motivated Bulldogs team. I think they roll against Michigan,
another team who I think gets overmatched in this In
this I I think this could be potentially the largest
march in victory we see in the playoffs altogether. Georgia
(40:16):
over Michigan. What about a New Year's Day, Your Penn
State Nitney Lions take it on Arkansas on the outback ball.
Arkansas a two point favorite. How you're the Nitney Lions
gonna do? Gotta go with the Nitney Lions, by Fred.
Gotta go with that, you know a little bit of
at this pointing season unve Yeah, and you know they
had a weird nine overtime loss against Illinois earlier this season,
(40:39):
just yuck. You know, I think they need to finish
with a bang. You know, I'm not an educated gambler here.
I'm more gambling with my heart. I take the Nitney Lions.
You watch that game? I mean, is that something like
I gotta sit down and watch my Penn State Nitney
Lions or it's not that big of a deal. No, No,
I'll watch him. I I like. I like watching them
(41:00):
in the postseason. Especially Bowl games are kind of fun
because as a one off you always see him against
a competitor you're not used to see him, especially Arkansas.
I mean, that would be a lot of fun to
see him play against him. Let me get one quick
NFL game from you. The Cardinals and the Cowboys. Cowboys
a five and a point favorite in Dallas, Chy and Arlington. Um,
I gotta take the way I gotta take the Cowboys
(41:21):
with the way they offense looked against Washington and the
way Arizona stumbling. Rich Cowboys for the first time in
weeks and weeks and weeks, and it was during a windstreak. Uh.
Look healthy Dak Prescott specifically, I think there was something
wrong with him. I don't know what it was. It
was the calf from earlier this season, the ankle from
this offseason, the shoulder from this uh this preseason. But
(41:44):
but Dac finally looks like he's back, uh and back
to the way he looked to start this season. So yeah,
I got the Cowboys rolling the Cardinals. Also, we've seen
a great deal of regression lately, so I like it.
I think I think the Cowboys cover that spread. I
think they could eventually win big here Rich. It was
a pleasure, my friend. I am back tomorrow with Aaron
(42:05):
Torres as the guys continue to be out. Bertie Fratto
next here on Fox Sports Radio.
